- 0:46Speaker 6: Free Dixons to Mario Douglas, Kashawan Boody and Taekwondo clo.
- 0:50Speaker 7: Okay, that's the weapons.
- 0:51Speaker 8: What about reminder Stevens Washington General, he beat you with
- 0:55Speaker 8: Parker because he knows to be the Who's Patrick Mahomes'
- 1:00Speaker 8: third down back?
- 1:01Speaker 9: Jerck mckinnony is pretty good?
- 1:03Speaker 1: Oh really?
- 1:04Speaker 8: What's he got twelve catches.
- 1:05Speaker 9: And was created last year in the playoffs.
- 1:07Speaker 8: Who's Joe Burrow's third down back?
- 1:09Speaker 1: Okay? Jeff, Jeff.
- 1:12Speaker 8: All the stuff about mac is is point he didn't produce.
- 1:18Speaker 8: Look at it. Go back and look at it and
- 1:20Speaker 8: tell me that. Show me the production.
- 1:21Speaker 9: I don't disagree, i't I don't disagree with his point.
- 1:27Speaker 9: No one can even talk except for you, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Listen, Jeff, Jeff, Now, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, Fine, hold on,
- 1:38Speaker 1: hold on, hold hold up.
- 1:39Speaker 8: You talk, then Fred talks. You talk, and Fred talks.
- 1:42Speaker 8: You can't just talk all the time. No one can
- 1:44Speaker 8: hear anything.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Yes, this is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:51Speaker 10: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals buy a Toyota
- 1:55Speaker 10: dot com.
- 1:58Speaker 1: That was Patriots Unfiltered yesterday.
- 2:00Speaker 8: No, that pretty much summed up the day.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Yeah, if you didn't hear it, you can go back
- 2:04Speaker 1: and listen to the whole call.
- 2:05Speaker 8: Fred desperately trying to agree with Jeff. Anyway.
- 2:10Speaker 1: But you know what, we're just getting ready for Washington.
- 2:12Speaker 1: That's all we're doing today, you know, commanders, We're just
- 2:16Speaker 1: getting ready for Washington. That was the refrain today from
- 2:20Speaker 1: Bill Belichick. A lot of people wanted to talk about
- 2:24Speaker 1: the trade deadline and personnel and all that stuff.
- 2:27Speaker 9: But with the general manager of the team. They want
- 2:29Speaker 9: to talk about that.
- 2:30Speaker 1: We're focused on Washington. Yeah, and I'm not sure Washington's
- 2:36Speaker 1: focused on playing football anymore. Yeah. They trade away. They're
- 2:40Speaker 1: trading away key pieces yesterday and apparently to play their
- 2:46Speaker 1: young guys, which according to Billy can understand because they
- 2:49Speaker 1: think they're pretty good. But you know, it is what
- 2:53Speaker 1: it is. This looks like a game that the Patriots
- 2:56Speaker 1: should win.
- 2:56Speaker 11: That comment stood out to me because, like, oh, so
- 2:58Speaker 11: when you feel like you don't really have anything on
- 3:00Speaker 11: that season, you just kind of restock and play your
- 3:03Speaker 11: young guys a lot, Like is that what we're doing
- 3:04Speaker 11: to Bill, I don't know.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Yeah, but we're not doing that. I mean, we're doing
- 3:08Speaker 1: it by default because guys.
- 3:09Speaker 8: Are hurt, but we're not Ponnel forced to do it.
- 3:14Speaker 12: I apologize.
- 3:15Speaker 8: There's something to talk about. We'll talk about it.
- 3:18Speaker 1: So Bill talked today. Uh, and then Mac Jones just
- 3:22Speaker 1: got off the podium a little while ago. I got
- 3:25Speaker 1: to say something about it. I know him. We like
- 3:28Speaker 1: to people like to pile on Mac and all this stuff,
- 3:31Speaker 1: and Mac and Roe and all and all this, But
- 3:36Speaker 1: for everything that's going on with him and the stuff
- 3:38Speaker 1: around him. You know, he puts on a good face
- 3:41Speaker 1: for the most part at these press conferences. You know,
- 3:43Speaker 1: like he doesn't come out, you know, dour and down.
- 3:47Speaker 1: He's he's upbeat. I got to hand it to him, he's.
- 3:50Speaker 11: Got to be kind of used to it, like, you know,
- 3:52Speaker 11: I mean, it just it sounds a lot the same.
- 3:54Speaker 11: I mean, even like his postgame press conferences kind of
- 3:57Speaker 11: are all just sounding like the same, I know, but.
- 4:00Speaker 1: He does it with a smile on his face.
- 4:02Speaker 11: And I think, yeah, I think at this point though,
- 4:04Speaker 11: you just you kind of realize where you're at, and
- 4:05Speaker 11: you go up there, you put on a happy face.
- 4:07Speaker 12: You know that they're not going to grule you too bad.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Trying to give him a little credit, no, I.
- 4:11Speaker 11: Mean, I think of everything we've given him credit for, was,
- 4:14Speaker 11: you know, handling things, you know, fairly well. I mean
- 4:16Speaker 11: I think that there's a couple of different avenues you
- 4:18Speaker 11: can take to that.
- 4:19Speaker 12: Some things he didn't.
- 4:19Speaker 11: Handle so well last year, right, But you know, as
- 4:22Speaker 11: far as just working hard and you know, saying kind
- 4:25Speaker 11: of the right things and all that, Yeah, he's doing
- 4:27Speaker 11: good job.
- 4:29Speaker 9: I will say for this, give him this. He knows
- 4:34Speaker 9: what he's doing wrong. Like he's said every single week
- 4:38Speaker 9: after games, you know, we ask him questions. And now
- 4:43Speaker 9: now I have, you know, a cohort with me and Taylor,
- 4:46Speaker 9: so we like, but we both come at him about
- 4:48Speaker 9: the film and and we asked him questions about you know,
- 4:51Speaker 9: what are you seeing downfield on deep throws and the
- 4:54Speaker 9: pre snap stuff and r pos and this and that,
- 4:56Speaker 9: And he has all the right answers. He has all
- 4:59Speaker 9: the right answers as to what he's doing wrong and
- 5:01Speaker 9: how he could improve and where they're deficient and all
- 5:05Speaker 9: these types of things. I was saying to you guys
- 5:07Speaker 9: before we hit record here, like he just can't fix them.
- 5:11Speaker 9: Like it just seems like he knows what he needs
- 5:13Speaker 9: to do, but baby, because it's physically he can't do it.
- 5:18Speaker 9: He just can't do it.
- 5:19Speaker 12: Sounds like a coach.
- 5:20Speaker 9: Yeah, he just can't fix it. That That's kind of
- 5:23Speaker 9: how it comes across. Is like if this was like
- 5:26Speaker 9: the offensive coordinator saying that the quarterback needs to do X,
- 5:29Speaker 9: Y and Z better, I'd be like, Okay, yeah, you like,
- 5:31Speaker 9: the guy's got them, got the right the right mojo,
- 5:34Speaker 9: and then but he's the one that has to go
- 5:35Speaker 9: out there and execute.
- 5:36Speaker 12: It's good trade for a backup quarterback too. You know
- 5:39Speaker 12: what's going on?
- 5:39Speaker 8: See what you did there?
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yeah, we we should mention dark some some NFL news
- 5:45Speaker 1: that happened overnight.
- 5:47Speaker 12: In the middle of the night in Vegas, the City
- 5:49Speaker 12: that Never sleeps.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Apparently, I'm not I wouldn't have been surprised if it
- 5:53Speaker 1: happened at the end of the season. I am surprised
- 5:55Speaker 1: at right now. The Raiders got rid of Josh McDaniels
- 5:59Speaker 1: and Dave Ziegler, by the way, but you know Mick Lombardy, Yeah,
- 6:02Speaker 1: and Mick Lombardy and then yeah, bo heart agree was promoted.
- 6:09Speaker 9: So it sounds like the final nail in the coffin
- 6:12Speaker 9: was starting Brian Hoyer in that that game a couple
- 6:16Speaker 9: of weeks ago, and I guess they all wanted to
- 6:19Speaker 9: go with Aidan O'Connell and Josh wanted to go with
- 6:22Speaker 9: Brian Hoyer, so they started Hoyer, and Hoyer played terribly
- 6:25Speaker 9: and hoyered. That was kind of the end of that.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yeah, so with four years left in his contract, he's
- 6:31Speaker 1: a free man raking in the money. Apparently, that's all.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I mean.
- 6:35Speaker 11: I love Paul say it, but I mean take some time. Yeah, really,
- 6:38Speaker 11: you don't need money.
- 6:39Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, like I know, immediate speculation is he'll
- 6:42Speaker 8: come back, and I don't. I wouldn't rule that out.
- 6:45Speaker 8: I mean, he's done it before. If I were him,
- 6:47Speaker 8: and this is just me, my my opinion, I would
- 6:50Speaker 8: take the rest of this year and just decompressed.
- 6:53Speaker 1: If I family, I would be like, no, please, no.
- 6:57Speaker 8: No, I agree, that's I don't think it's We can
- 7:00Speaker 8: talk about whether or not the Patriots should do it,
- 7:03Speaker 8: and I would say no because of what you just said.
- 7:05Speaker 8: But if it's something that everybody's in agreement on and
- 7:08Speaker 8: Billy O'Brien or maybe they like the last time when
- 7:11Speaker 8: he came back, Billy O'Brien was leaving, he was going
- 7:14Speaker 8: to Penn State. They knew that, right, So there's nobody's
- 7:17Speaker 8: toes getting stepped on exactly. If they know that now
- 7:20Speaker 8: that Billy Oh's got another job lined up for next year,
- 7:23Speaker 8: which I hardly highly doubt they know that right now,
- 7:27Speaker 8: then by all means do it again. Yes, yeah, I
- 7:29Speaker 8: mean to me, I think it's better for Josh. And
- 7:33Speaker 8: I'm not saying never come back. I'm saying right now,
- 7:35Speaker 8: just sort of take the rest of the take the
- 7:37Speaker 8: last half of the year off, decompress, spend some time
- 7:40Speaker 8: with your family. Money's not a factor, and then figure
- 7:43Speaker 8: out what your next move is going to be, you know.
- 7:45Speaker 11: Especially after last year, Like I would you know, if
- 7:47Speaker 11: someone wanted to pitch like how it could work or
- 7:49Speaker 11: you know, why to bring Josh in at this point
- 7:51Speaker 11: to a two and sixteen. But I think last year
- 7:54Speaker 11: we had so many voices in Max's head and I
- 7:57Speaker 11: think that was part of the problem. And you know,
- 7:58Speaker 11: so you're talking about muddy the message maybe a little
- 8:01Speaker 11: bit at this point where I mean, I think probably
- 8:03Speaker 11: right now, what you're thinking is, let's continue to try
- 8:05Speaker 11: to get Mac to pick up the Billy Oh offense
- 8:07Speaker 11: and not let's bring in Josh and he's gonna maybe
- 8:10Speaker 11: have his take on it.
- 8:11Speaker 12: And I think things are going to just be you're
- 8:14Speaker 12: looking at me, it's like he's playing nobody else.
- 8:18Speaker 11: But I'd be more interested in maybe discussing some of
- 8:21Speaker 11: the assistant coaches, you know. I mean, I know Evan
- 8:23Speaker 11: was bringing up carn Brisillo, who's the offensive line coach,
- 8:25Speaker 11: who you know, if things I don't know how.
- 8:27Speaker 12: Things are going with Adrian Clem.
- 8:29Speaker 11: We've seen the product on the field, you know, maybe
- 8:31Speaker 11: there's some learning. He's no, he's still but maybe he'd
- 8:34Speaker 11: be out at the end of maybe at the end
- 8:36Speaker 11: of the year.
- 8:37Speaker 9: You know, I'm a big carn Brisillo guy. I thought
- 8:41Speaker 9: their best line since Scar left was twenty one, which
- 8:45Speaker 9: was his line. So I think that he's a good
- 8:47Speaker 9: line coach, and I would definitely bring him back. And
- 8:50Speaker 9: I hear fans that say that, you know, they should
- 8:52Speaker 9: move on from this system entirely, and like we should
- 8:55Speaker 9: be looking to turn a page here and move into
- 8:58Speaker 9: a different world of offense, maybe with a different universe,
- 9:03Speaker 9: not keep on bringing back retreads, right and just keep
- 9:06Speaker 9: rehiring these guys. But I think that there's a difference
- 9:09Speaker 9: between pointing out the fact that it's pretty obvious why
- 9:13Speaker 9: they would bring Josh McDaniels back and also agree. I
- 9:17Speaker 9: agree with that point that they need to adapt and
- 9:21Speaker 9: modernize a little bit on offense. But at the same time, if,
- 9:24Speaker 9: like Paul said, if Billy Oh's got a job at
- 9:27Speaker 9: Michigan State next year lined up then and Bill's still
- 9:31Speaker 9: the coach here, it's gonna be McDaniel's.
- 9:33Speaker 8: Like that's just that's just a fact.
- 9:35Speaker 1: So yeah, I mean there's only a handful of people
- 9:41Speaker 1: that really know what the future of this team is
- 9:44Speaker 1: or in it ain't us. Yeah, it's not us. And
- 9:47Speaker 1: so all we're doing right now is spitballing, you know.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And but I'm dying to find out what's going to
- 9:54Speaker 1: happen at the end of this season.
- 9:57Speaker 12: I am too, And I hate it.
- 9:58Speaker 11: I hate, hate, hate being in the position of having
- 10:02Speaker 11: to root for the team to lose so that they
- 10:03Speaker 11: can get a better draft pick.
- 10:04Speaker 12: Like I just think it sucks. Well, you don't have
- 10:06Speaker 12: to do that, no, but but you can't. And I'm
- 10:08Speaker 12: not saying I'm not that. I'm not saying I'm necessarily
- 10:10Speaker 12: rooting for you.
- 10:11Speaker 8: I'm gonna allow you not to have to do that.
- 10:13Speaker 13: I'm giving you permission, and I'm not, by the way,
- 10:15Speaker 13: I appreciate the permission, and I'm not really, But it's
- 10:18Speaker 13: just you can't help but feel that poll you know,
- 10:20Speaker 13: And you can't help but feel right now every game
- 10:22Speaker 13: they win, you're like great, you know, And that's I'm
- 10:25Speaker 13: not rooting for them to lose in any sense.
- 10:27Speaker 12: Like I just I can't get there ever.
- 10:28Speaker 11: But I just hate having that hangover you, that every
- 10:31Speaker 11: win is going to have that like, well, say.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Goodbye to Drake May Now.
- 10:35Speaker 11: You know, like those like each week they win it,
- 10:37Speaker 11: that's just it sucks.
- 10:38Speaker 12: I hate being in this position.
- 10:39Speaker 8: Like didn't the Jets like win the last game the
- 10:42Speaker 8: Zach the to like get to lose, to lose Trevor Lawrence. Yeah,
- 10:48Speaker 8: like that would be a tough one. But that's way
- 10:50Speaker 8: down the.
- 10:50Speaker 12: Road, I know, like building right now.
- 10:52Speaker 8: I can't get to that in November.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, now that the trade deadline is over, there's
- 10:57Speaker 1: a lot of you know, chatter on the various platforms
- 11:01Speaker 1: from the experts that you know, they're upset with the
- 11:03Speaker 1: Patriots because you know, if you're not going to sell anything,
- 11:07Speaker 1: then sign them. You know, if you're not going to
- 11:09Speaker 1: sell Uce, if you're not going to sell Dugger, if
- 11:11Speaker 1: you're not going to sell them, when you sign them,
- 11:14Speaker 1: get it done. What is your take on that.
- 11:19Speaker 8: I think it's all individually, case by case.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Yeah, in my view, I.
- 11:23Speaker 8: Would say that that's how I feel about Dugger. I
- 11:26Speaker 8: kind of like Kyle Dugger. I think he could be
- 11:28Speaker 8: one of your young guys that you could potentially have
- 11:31Speaker 8: as part of your nucleus. You know, everybody says, well,
- 11:34Speaker 8: who other than Christian Gonzales. Do they Well, I think
- 11:36Speaker 8: Dougler could be one of those guys. You know, it'd
- 11:39Speaker 8: be a fifty year guy next year. Why wouldn't you
- 11:41Speaker 8: want to? You know, is four years, forty million something
- 11:45Speaker 8: like that? Is that outrageous? I don't do the numbers, No,
- 11:48Speaker 8: I just think.
- 11:49Speaker 9: That the biggest thing to me is like, at some
- 11:51Speaker 9: point you have to build. You can't keep replacing. And
- 11:55Speaker 9: I feel like this football team has gotten into a
- 11:58Speaker 9: problem personnel wise because it's constantly one guy in and
- 12:01Speaker 9: one guy out.
- 12:02Speaker 1: It seems like they're always looking for the perfect player,
- 12:05Speaker 1: like someone who's versatile, not high, you know, crazy expensive,
- 12:11Speaker 1: but can you know, be a foundational player because they
- 12:14Speaker 1: did have those guys like the Teddy Bruskis and things
- 12:17Speaker 1: like that, but I don't know, like you also had
- 12:21Speaker 1: Tom Brady, you know, and so now you don't. So
- 12:25Speaker 1: now you need those other players that are going to
- 12:28Speaker 1: carry this team. You can't rely on the quarterback.
- 12:31Speaker 11: I printed out a tweet from Zach Cox yesterday which
- 12:34Speaker 11: I just thought summed it up really well.
- 12:36Speaker 12: Just a couple highlights.
- 12:37Speaker 11: From twenty fourteen to twenty nineteen, New England selected nineteen
- 12:40Speaker 11: players in rounds one through three, and none of them
- 12:42Speaker 11: signed a second contract with the team. Zero that let's
- 12:45Speaker 11: do that again twenty fourteen to twenty nineteen, nineteen players
- 12:49Speaker 11: rounds one to three. These are the guys that right
- 12:51Speaker 11: now should be your core, your leaders.
- 12:54Speaker 12: Zero.
- 12:54Speaker 1: So that's six years, six sis drafts.
- 12:57Speaker 8: So my question would be there is is it just
- 13:02Speaker 8: bad drafting or is it bad roster management or in
- 13:06Speaker 8: some cases both because I don't think that.
- 13:09Speaker 1: But there's a third element paul drafting, roster management, but
- 13:13Speaker 1: also coaching once they get he development.
- 13:15Speaker 8: No, That's what I'm saying, Like, so, yeah, you're right,
- 13:18Speaker 8: You're absolutely right. But my point is like, if if
- 13:21Speaker 8: you've drafted a guy that you think can play and
- 13:24Speaker 8: you're considering giving him a second contract, then my guess
- 13:28Speaker 8: is he developed to a point. So did they always?
- 13:33Speaker 8: I wonder just how many guys out of those three
- 13:35Speaker 8: rounds and six years of drafts are like Kyle Duger.
- 13:38Speaker 8: I think Kyle Duger was a good draft pick, the
- 13:40Speaker 8: second round safety who is pretty athletic. I think he's
- 13:45Speaker 8: very physical. I still think he struggles a little bit
- 13:47Speaker 8: in the passing game, but you know, I think he's.
- 13:49Speaker 1: A pretty pretty good player.
- 13:51Speaker 8: My feeling is they don't have a lot of those
- 13:56Speaker 8: in those drafts, and that's the bigger problem is drafting
- 13:58Speaker 8: not retaining.
- 13:59Speaker 11: I think they cover that spectrum, Paul, you know, like
- 14:01Speaker 11: I think it goes from they drafted guys who were
- 14:03Speaker 11: good like Chandler Jones that they let go for whatever reason.
- 14:06Speaker 11: You know, Like it's just a second part to this
- 14:08Speaker 11: that the second contracts of guys post twenty thirteen, Jake Bailey,
- 14:13Speaker 11: who was of course cut one year after he signed,
- 14:16Speaker 11: Joe Cardona, he's a lone snapper, James White now retired,
- 14:20Speaker 11: Shack Mason traded.
- 14:23Speaker 12: We're left with just Dietrich Wise and Juwant Bentley.
- 14:25Speaker 11: So I mean, really for the last like ten years,
- 14:28Speaker 11: those are the two guys that you have to show
- 14:31Speaker 11: for all.
- 14:31Speaker 12: Of those drafts.
- 14:32Speaker 8: And it's hard because, like I said, it's case by case.
- 14:36Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, just like looking at the I'm not
- 14:39Speaker 9: going to read all of them because there's there's obviously
- 14:41Speaker 9: a bunch, but because off the top of my head
- 14:44Speaker 9: at a quick glance, I think, really, the only guy
- 14:46Speaker 9: that you can go back to and be like, I
- 14:48Speaker 9: guess there's there's two or three, one of them is
- 14:51Speaker 9: Trey Flowers was a fourth round pick, so that's passed
- 14:55Speaker 9: the cutoff. But he got a big deal from Detroit
- 14:57Speaker 9: when Patricia went there. And you know that, I guess
- 15:00Speaker 9: is a little bit complicated obviously. Jimmy g Right, you know,
- 15:03Speaker 9: second round pick in twenty fourteen, and then Joe Touney.
- 15:06Speaker 9: You know, those are I think are the three guys
- 15:08Speaker 9: that were good players that you hit on in the
- 15:12Speaker 9: draft that didn't weren't retained at past their first contract.
- 15:16Speaker 9: But I just feel like we're always, you know, it's
- 15:19Speaker 9: Kyle Dugger out, Marty Mapu in, it's you know, Joe
- 15:24Speaker 9: Toney out, it's you know, the next guy in, and instead,
- 15:27Speaker 9: why don't we take Kyle Dugger and add to Kyle Dugger?
- 15:31Speaker 8: Right?
- 15:32Speaker 1: Like?
- 15:32Speaker 9: Why and why does it have to stop there? Like
- 15:35Speaker 9: I feel like we're you know, I'm not as caught
- 15:36Speaker 9: up in like these guys have to be your building
- 15:40Speaker 9: blocks or your foundational pieces. Who's to say that Kyle
- 15:43Speaker 9: Dugger can't just be Kyle Dugger and then your foundational
- 15:46Speaker 9: piece is Christian Gonzales, right, And you just I feel
- 15:50Speaker 9: like they have to at some point, they need to
- 15:53Speaker 9: latch onto some guys and start to build something instead
- 15:56Speaker 9: of just concept.
- 15:57Speaker 8: I think it gets back to Mike's draft rant, because Mike,
- 16:01Speaker 8: I think you feel probably as passionately about the miss
- 16:04Speaker 8: draft picks as any of us do. Yeah, and we're
- 16:06Speaker 8: all in agreement on it. But I feel like Evan
- 16:11Speaker 8: brings up a good point. So Kyle dugger again, we
- 16:17Speaker 8: all kind of feel like, well that that's a good pick.
- 16:20Speaker 1: You don't have.
- 16:21Speaker 8: You don't have to retain him because for whatever reason
- 16:25Speaker 8: they decided, well, we have Kyle Duggar, We're gonna go
- 16:28Speaker 8: and sign Adrian Phillips and Jabrill Pepper's you know, and
- 16:34Speaker 8: then you know, even after we have all those guys,
- 16:36Speaker 8: never gonna get Mapoo. Like I think Mapoo is a
- 16:41Speaker 8: little bit of a different like player than those those three,
- 16:44Speaker 8: but the other three are very similar players. Now, I
- 16:46Speaker 8: think Adrian Phillips is probably nearing the end, but he
- 16:49Speaker 8: was a good, solid player for them, Like no one
- 16:52Speaker 8: would say, what would you're wasting your time on Adrian
- 16:55Speaker 8: Phillips for the last three years, Like he's fine, right,
- 16:58Speaker 8: but how different is he than do In Philip in
- 17:01Speaker 8: Peppers And how many of those guys do you need?
- 17:04Speaker 8: So now they're gonna probably to Evan's point, they're probably
- 17:07Speaker 8: gonna let Douger go. Right, Well, we got Peppers and
- 17:12Speaker 8: then we drafted, Like, maybe you wouldn't have to draft
- 17:15Speaker 8: all of these guys at those positions if you just
- 17:17Speaker 8: identify the guy that you like instead of that constant search,
- 17:22Speaker 8: rights Fred said, for that perfect guy. So I feel
- 17:25Speaker 8: like those three safeties are all very similar in their
- 17:27Speaker 8: skill sets. Philip's Peppers in Dougbory.
- 17:31Speaker 1: To finish the exercise, so let's go twenty twenty one,
- 17:34Speaker 1: twenty three? Who and those do you think they will
- 17:39Speaker 1: give that second contract to?
- 17:42Speaker 8: Will?
- 17:43Speaker 1: Yeah? Will?
- 17:45Speaker 8: I mean it's a great question for out of the
- 17:47Speaker 8: depending free agent class.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Not just depending free agent, but guys drafted.
- 17:52Speaker 8: I mean, I don't know about I don't know about you,
- 17:53Speaker 8: and I don't have a lot of confidence in any.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I know, that's kind of the point.
- 17:56Speaker 12: I know, I don't know Mac, I don't know more
- 17:59Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 17:59Speaker 1: I mean, obviously you think you know, I know it's recent,
- 18:02Speaker 1: but you think Gonzales will get to a second cont
- 18:05Speaker 1: you hope anyway, maybe Barmore maybe would he get.
- 18:08Speaker 9: To a second to me, yeah, but it's.
- 18:12Speaker 1: What we think should and then what they will do
- 18:15Speaker 1: it with another story.
- 18:16Speaker 8: But what happens is I think again it's all case
- 18:20Speaker 8: by case because you don't know what these guys are
- 18:22Speaker 8: going to get.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Well no, but I'm just saying, like the exercise.
- 18:26Speaker 8: Like, if Barbo becomes what I think he's going to become,
- 18:28Speaker 8: I do not think he will get a second contract here.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Well, that's that's a problem. That's a problem.
- 18:32Speaker 12: I know Remandre.
- 18:35Speaker 1: So like he's he's in a catch twenty two. If
- 18:38Speaker 1: he doesn't become that, then okay, don't give him a
- 18:41Speaker 1: second contract. And if he does become that, they don't
- 18:43Speaker 1: want to pay him, so like he can't.
- 18:44Speaker 8: Well, but like I could see them going to I
- 18:46Speaker 8: could see them going to him like next year, you know,
- 18:52Speaker 8: in the in the off season and he signs a
- 18:53Speaker 8: Dietrich Wise extension. Yeah, you know, I could see that
- 18:57Speaker 8: happening with Barmore. But like now, if I were Barmore,
- 19:00Speaker 8: I would wait.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Right, but I would count that as good if they
- 19:04Speaker 1: could convince him to do an early extension. That's smart management.
- 19:09Speaker 1: That's smart to do the player.
- 19:10Speaker 12: You trade it up. You know, you showed value.
- 19:12Speaker 1: You're telling the guy you can make more. Some money now,
- 19:16Speaker 1: or you can wait, but you can get your money
- 19:18Speaker 1: in the bank now. Maybe not as much as if
- 19:20Speaker 1: you wait another year or two, but you'll get your
- 19:23Speaker 1: money now. And a lot of players opt for the
- 19:25Speaker 1: money now, and you know it's it's just a life's
- 19:27Speaker 1: decision that they make. But you know, let's keep going
- 19:29Speaker 1: down the list. Taekwon Thornton. Nope, no, cold strange.
- 19:34Speaker 12: No, I don't know if he's gonna be starting in
- 19:35Speaker 12: three weeks, right.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I mean you go down the list, A lot of
- 19:38Speaker 1: the guys are already gone.
- 19:39Speaker 8: You know the option yeah right, no, no, no, I'm being serious.
- 19:46Speaker 1: And he's a first round pick.
- 19:48Speaker 8: Yeah, So the fifty year option for him.
- 19:50Speaker 9: Is that north of ten million probably?
- 19:54Speaker 8: Okay, so like I could see that, but that's not
- 19:56Speaker 8: a second contract.
- 19:57Speaker 1: It's not as that doesn't count. But you know, you
- 19:59Speaker 1: got to get to your fifth year before you get
- 20:01Speaker 1: to your you know, get to.
- 20:02Speaker 12: Our third year.
- 20:04Speaker 9: The fifth year contract is a formula. So like he's
- 20:06Speaker 9: it's draft pick and its position, so like he's a guard.
- 20:10Speaker 9: So max fifth year option right now is projected to
- 20:12Speaker 9: be twenty three million in twenty twenty five because he's
- 20:15Speaker 9: a quarterback and he's a fifteenth overall, the top half, right, yeah,
- 20:19Speaker 9: so that Cold Strangers.
- 20:21Speaker 8: Might be a little bit more reasonable. Sure, but that's
- 20:24Speaker 8: why I was as that before. I said, like completely,
- 20:27Speaker 8: but even then, want to.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Make a decision to be made. You know, he's going
- 20:32Speaker 1: to be paid good money because he was a first
- 20:34Speaker 1: round pick, not quarterback money. Uh and you know, but
- 20:39Speaker 1: it's a decision to be made.
- 20:40Speaker 8: And but that's not good free agency money, no good
- 20:43Speaker 8: one year salary.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, but you go down the list, like, who
- 20:47Speaker 1: are the guys since twenty since twenty twenty that possibly
- 20:50Speaker 1: could make it to a second time.
- 20:52Speaker 11: And that's why I like looking at these numbers and
- 20:54Speaker 11: then now looking what's become of the twenty twenty two
- 20:56Speaker 11: draft class. It's just that, like I feel like that
- 21:00Speaker 11: was kind of like one of the final nails in
- 21:01Speaker 11: the coffin. I feel like missing on all those draft picks.
- 21:03Speaker 11: I mean, you just you missed on strange because we
- 21:05Speaker 11: missed on Thornton.
- 21:06Speaker 1: You know because at the time, like a year ago,
- 21:08Speaker 1: we thought, oh Stevenson, but they don't like doing that
- 21:12Speaker 1: with running back.
- 21:12Speaker 8: No, I wouldn't do that.
- 21:13Speaker 1: And now he's shown where entre.
- 21:16Speaker 8: Yeah, that one I don't put on the team. I
- 21:18Speaker 8: think most yeah, most teams, Yeah, they don't really want
- 21:21Speaker 8: to do that.
- 21:22Speaker 11: This is also, I think something to be said for
- 21:24Speaker 11: retaining guys because they're your guys and you're trying to
- 21:27Speaker 11: build a culture of Look, this guy has some warts
- 21:30Speaker 11: in his game or his personality or something that don't
- 21:32Speaker 11: make him prototypical Patriots.
- 21:33Speaker 12: But these are our guys.
- 21:35Speaker 11: We've put a lot of time into them already, and
- 21:38Speaker 11: we want to continue with these guys despite their warts,
- 21:40Speaker 11: and we want to send a message to our locker
- 21:42Speaker 11: room that you know, when you play well, even if
- 21:44Speaker 11: you mess up a couple of times, you know, like, well.
- 21:46Speaker 1: They do that with some guys.
- 21:48Speaker 8: I think that's part of snappers and guards, you know.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I mean, I'm what's Dietrich Wise's deal, for example. I mean,
- 21:56Speaker 1: but but they keep them they like, they like, they
- 21:59Speaker 1: keep them around.
- 22:00Speaker 12: The White player him, then Bentley, you know him and Bentley,
- 22:02Speaker 12: I mean.
- 22:02Speaker 11: He's good, But I always felt like the second they
- 22:04Speaker 11: drafted key on White, I'm like, well, this feels like
- 22:06Speaker 11: we could finally upgrade Ditrich Wise. I think he's a
- 22:09Speaker 11: nice player. I think he's a complimentary player, but you know,
- 22:11Speaker 11: you when you look at that list, you say, these
- 22:13Speaker 11: are the guys that they chose to build around. This
- 22:14Speaker 11: isn't like an elite player. This isn't you know. This
- 22:17Speaker 11: was a guy that, even when they gave him the extension,
- 22:19Speaker 11: had questions. And I think he's played better the last
- 22:21Speaker 11: couple of years. He's rounded out his game, and I
- 22:23Speaker 11: think he's, you know, great police in the locker room
- 22:25Speaker 11: for sure, but he loves Dietrich but you know he's not.
- 22:28Speaker 9: But you're like, I just don't what's the problem with
- 22:31Speaker 9: retaining your good players while still seeking out great players.
- 22:36Speaker 9: Like I feel like this team when you're they just
- 22:39Speaker 9: give up on you because you're not an elite player
- 22:42Speaker 9: and they go searching for for Fred's golden goose where
- 22:46Speaker 9: Like that guy should be tacked on to that, like
- 22:49Speaker 9: Kyle Duggar, Christian Barmore, Christian Gonzalez, Juwan Bentley, Like those
- 22:54Speaker 9: guys should be here.
- 22:56Speaker 8: And then when you add the.
- 22:58Speaker 9: Draft picks that you you bring in, or you add
- 23:01Speaker 9: the free agent guys that you bring in after that,
- 23:03Speaker 9: those guys are in addition to what you already have.
- 23:07Speaker 9: And I just like dougger and we'll see about Barmore,
- 23:11Speaker 9: like he's had three really really good games so far
- 23:14Speaker 9: this year. He had a great rookie year. I think
- 23:16Speaker 9: I probably need to see a little bit more consistency
- 23:19Speaker 9: for him from a long stretch of games to say, like,
- 23:22Speaker 9: let's give him some lucrative contract.
- 23:24Speaker 8: But a guy like.
- 23:25Speaker 9: Kyle Duggar, I don't know why that's even a conversation
- 23:29Speaker 9: unless he's gonna he's not gonna get stupid money, Like
- 23:32Speaker 9: I don't think he's gonna be making like Derwin James
- 23:34Speaker 9: make it mikea Fitzpatrick type of safety money. So unless
- 23:38Speaker 9: it gets stupid, I don't know why you wouldn't.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Well, some I heard somebody on the radio saying today
- 23:44Speaker 1: that Douggar's agent is the same agent as somebody else
- 23:49Speaker 1: who's coming as agent. They have the same agent, and
- 23:52Speaker 1: the Patriots don't necessarily get along with this particular agent.
- 23:56Speaker 8: I thought it was Oocha's that Andrew Callahan was mentioning.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Yeah, But I thought he said the two Patriots players
- 24:02Speaker 1: that are coming up, and I thought he mentioned Douger.
- 24:04Speaker 8: But when they were talking about Dougger and then I
- 24:06Speaker 8: think they were talking about but you might be right,
- 24:08Speaker 8: he might be the same one and the same But
- 24:10Speaker 8: I did hear Andrew Kelly and say that he didn't
- 24:13Speaker 8: mention the name, So I don't know who the players
- 24:15Speaker 8: are involved.
- 24:16Speaker 9: I don't want to say it because I don't know
- 24:18Speaker 9: if I'm right, But I don't know about that.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Okay. The other thing about this conversation is we're doing
- 24:25Speaker 1: it at a disadvantage because we really don't know how
- 24:28Speaker 1: it works down there.
- 24:30Speaker 8: Robert nobody knows how ye Robert Craft has said, evidently
- 24:33Speaker 8: does Robert Crafton Washington.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Robert Craft has said he's never had any problem getting players.
- 24:40Speaker 1: What he doesn't say is is there a budget? So
- 24:43Speaker 1: as long as you're within a budget, you don't have
- 24:45Speaker 1: a problem. But does Bill have to work from that budget?
- 24:49Speaker 1: And that dictates a lot of the decisions he makes.
- 24:52Speaker 1: You know, I have a set amount of money I
- 24:53Speaker 1: can spend, and that includes money in the future, you know,
- 24:58Speaker 1: over cap and cash, and I have to make it
- 25:01Speaker 1: work within that.
- 25:02Speaker 8: We don't know, Like, we don't know, and we I
- 25:05Speaker 8: think we can all reasonably assume that everybody has a budget.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Well, yeah, but I mean.
- 25:13Speaker 8: We don't know what it is.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Yeah, like the whole cash spending that that's real money.
- 25:17Speaker 1: That's the money that you know.
- 25:19Speaker 8: And I do think that part of that, like that
- 25:23Speaker 8: was a big advantage of the weight because the cap
- 25:27Speaker 8: was in the early part of the dynasty, like the
- 25:31Speaker 8: three you know era, the cap was constricting and having
- 25:37Speaker 8: Tom Brady not have to be you know, blowing it
- 25:40Speaker 8: out of the water. But as the cap, you know,
- 25:42Speaker 8: it's a catch twenty two for the owners because they
- 25:45Speaker 8: make so much more money now because the revenues is
- 25:47Speaker 8: so much higher. The cap has grown so big that
- 25:53Speaker 8: you don't have those restrictings. Did you see some of
- 25:55Speaker 8: these stories about like back to the Raiders thing, like
- 25:57Speaker 8: Devonte Adams was close to it deal with the Jet
- 26:00Speaker 8: Like so the Jets are like acquiring a sixty million
- 26:03Speaker 8: dollar quarterback and they had no qualms whatsoever about adding
- 26:07Speaker 8: DeVante Adams for another thirty Yeah, because the cap doesn't matter,
- 26:11Speaker 8: you can just manipulate it any way you want. You can.
- 26:14Speaker 8: But this is the bigger question is if you're willing
- 26:17Speaker 8: to spend the money.
- 26:18Speaker 9: I mean, yeah, like so the Patriots, I would say,
- 26:22Speaker 9: out of all the teams in the league, probably use
- 26:25Speaker 9: the least amount of cap. Maneuvering gymnastics at this point
- 26:31Speaker 9: and My guess is, and this is something that I'm
- 26:34Speaker 9: just I know people think I attack Bill all the time.
- 26:37Speaker 9: But to Paul's point, this is how it probably used
- 26:41Speaker 9: to be run. Yes, and now this is no longer
- 26:45Speaker 9: how teams are doing it. So I get this. You
- 26:47Speaker 9: know a lot on Twitter, like how does San Francisco
- 26:52Speaker 9: with their salary trade for Chase Young and trade for
- 26:57Speaker 9: Christian McCaffrey and make all these huge moves for high
- 27:00Speaker 9: priced players when they're already spending a ton on their roster.
- 27:04Speaker 8: And people will tell you it's because they're not paying
- 27:06Speaker 8: for the quarterback, which is so simplistic. Yes they're not.
- 27:10Speaker 8: They have the last pick of the draft is their quarterback.
- 27:13Speaker 8: But they're paying quarterback money, well quarterback adjacent money to
- 27:17Speaker 8: a lot of different guys. Yeah.
- 27:19Speaker 9: Or it's like, you know, a couple of years ago,
- 27:22Speaker 9: it was a last offseason when the Bills signed von Miller.
- 27:25Speaker 9: The Bills have one of like the most cash spending wise,
- 27:30Speaker 9: like they are at the near the top of the league,
- 27:32Speaker 9: and then they were up against the cap and then
- 27:35Speaker 9: somehow they just signed von Miller to this like twenty
- 27:37Speaker 9: million dollars a year deal. The Eagles are another team
- 27:41Speaker 9: that just buy their way out of it, like they
- 27:43Speaker 9: just buy their way out of anything to do with
- 27:46Speaker 9: the cap, and that's how you you know, trade for
- 27:48Speaker 9: aj Brown and keep it and keep it going.
- 27:51Speaker 1: But just just so people understand, when you say buy
- 27:54Speaker 1: their way out of it, what does that mean.
- 27:56Speaker 9: So there's different ways to maneuver the cap. The easiest
- 28:00Speaker 9: one is to create base salary into a signing bonus.
- 28:05Speaker 9: But in order to create base salary into a signing bonus,
- 28:08Speaker 9: you have to write a check to the player. That's right,
- 28:12Speaker 9: it's real money, and so you have to hand them
- 28:15Speaker 9: a check and say, here's the money for the rest
- 28:17Speaker 9: of the season that we would have paid out to
- 28:19Speaker 9: you in per game roster bonuses and base salary, but
- 28:24Speaker 9: instead we're gonna do it all in one lump sum
- 28:26Speaker 9: because you are AJ Brown and you're gonna be worth it.
- 28:30Speaker 9: So we're just gonna give you the money and teams
- 28:33Speaker 9: will just do that. And it's kind of you know,
- 28:36Speaker 9: it never comes due like this, this notion that the
- 28:39Speaker 9: bill comes due.
- 28:41Speaker 4: Well, it does come due, but you can always it's
- 28:44Speaker 4: in perpetuity. But but you can always keep right financing right.
- 28:48Speaker 4: You can always write like that if exactly if you're not,
- 28:51Speaker 4: if you don't want to do the gymnastics, eventually it
- 28:54Speaker 4: will come due. But there are mechanisms to just keep
- 28:57Speaker 4: it going, to just keep it going. The only thing
- 28:59Speaker 4: that would kill you is if there's a pandemic and
- 29:03Speaker 4: all of a sudden the cap goes down. Now you're
- 29:05Speaker 4: kind of screwed because now you have to make serious.
- 29:08Speaker 4: But as long as the cap remains, even going up
- 29:12Speaker 4: a little bit, you can keep moving money to the future.
- 29:16Speaker 1: But you're gonna have to you have you need a
- 29:17Speaker 1: good accountant, you need someone who understands all the rules
- 29:21Speaker 1: and can, you know, manipulate.
- 29:23Speaker 8: You're gonna have to money.
- 29:24Speaker 1: You're gonna have to restructure guys contracts, you know, because
- 29:27Speaker 1: even though the cap is crap, you still have to
- 29:30Speaker 1: stay under it in a fiscal year.
- 29:32Speaker 8: It still it exists.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Yeah, but it exists.
- 29:35Speaker 8: But it's just money. But Kevin just explained it perfect.
- 29:38Speaker 1: But you can move that money to the future.
- 29:39Speaker 14: Now.
- 29:40Speaker 1: The other thing that people need to understand when we
- 29:42Speaker 1: get to that writing the check, not only not all
- 29:45Speaker 1: owners are equal. There are some owners that have that
- 29:48Speaker 1: liquidity to just do that, and other owners that don't,
- 29:53Speaker 1: you know, and you think that all all teams have
- 29:56Speaker 1: the same amount of money. They don't. They don't. The
- 29:58Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys have more money than any other team, and
- 30:01Speaker 1: I would say the Rams probably are there too because
- 30:04Speaker 1: of their owner. He's dipping into his own pockets. He's
- 30:07Speaker 1: not when he does that extra stuff, he's not. That's
- 30:11Speaker 1: not his normal budget. That's going above and beyond their
- 30:14Speaker 1: normal budget.
- 30:15Speaker 8: What would you put the Raiders on that list?
- 30:17Speaker 1: Very low? Yeah, I would say very low. And I
- 30:20Speaker 1: think I think the Raiders do it. Yeah, the Raiders
- 30:22Speaker 1: have overseers. Mark Davis, he's not you know, like, I
- 30:27Speaker 1: think he has helped from the league when it comes
- 30:30Speaker 1: to decisions on that team.
- 30:31Speaker 8: Oh, I just think that they're willing to swallow dead money.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:35Speaker 8: Yeah, it just look at what they're paying for two
- 30:37Speaker 8: coaches right now.
- 30:38Speaker 1: I know.
- 30:38Speaker 12: How much of this stuff do you think?
- 30:40Speaker 11: And I'm just putting this out there for discussion. The
- 30:42Speaker 11: thing I read off about not really retaining your guys.
- 30:44Speaker 12: Do you think that all this cap stuff and money
- 30:46Speaker 12: stuff feeds into that. Do you think that that's a factory.
- 30:48Speaker 12: Do you think that it's more about Yeah?
- 30:50Speaker 1: Well do I do? And that's why I said before.
- 30:52Speaker 1: We're at a disadvantage because we don't know we don't
- 30:55Speaker 1: know how the Patriots operate in terms of their budget,
- 30:58Speaker 1: not just the cap, like no, the budget.
- 31:01Speaker 9: Well because he always says, Bill always says that we
- 31:04Speaker 9: spend to the cap. But the issue is is that
- 31:07Speaker 9: everybody else is spending past the cap, right, so nobody
- 31:12Speaker 9: else spends to the cap anymore, everybody else. You know,
- 31:15Speaker 9: the Philadelphia Eagles I think are in the top three
- 31:19Speaker 9: of cash spending. They are way way, way over the
- 31:23Speaker 9: cap in terms of how much money they spend on
- 31:25Speaker 9: the team in a year. But they're able to do
- 31:28Speaker 9: it because they have these you know, nerds behind the
- 31:31Speaker 9: scenes that just figure out how to move the money
- 31:33Speaker 9: around and make it work. And I think in a
- 31:36Speaker 9: lot of ways, like Paul, we were talking about this yesterday.
- 31:39Speaker 9: You know, if they give I think we were talking
- 31:41Speaker 9: about Chase Young, If they give Chase Young twenty million dollars,
- 31:44Speaker 9: is that are they then going to go give to
- 31:46Speaker 9: Higgins twenty million dollars?
- 31:48Speaker 8: And that that's.
- 31:48Speaker 9: Where you run into issues, is that if you're going
- 31:51Speaker 9: to start paying a bunch of high priced players at
- 31:53Speaker 9: the top of your roster, you have to be willing
- 31:56Speaker 9: to maneuver the cap, and if you're not willing to
- 31:58Speaker 9: do that, then you're not gonna get those Yeah.
- 32:00Speaker 1: I mean, other than like your coach and quarterback, maybe
- 32:03Speaker 1: the most important person on any team is the person
- 32:05Speaker 1: who is your not your capolysist, but your accountant, the
- 32:09Speaker 1: person who understands all the rules and can get these
- 32:11Speaker 1: future deals by the league, because the league has to
- 32:14Speaker 1: approve every every deal. You submit the deal to the league,
- 32:18Speaker 1: it goes into this thing called the Management Council. It's
- 32:21Speaker 1: all online, like every team has visibility into every other
- 32:24Speaker 1: team's deal, and you can't bend the rules. You got
- 32:28Speaker 1: to adhere to the rules, but you know understanding what
- 32:31Speaker 1: those rules are and not being afraid to like, I'm
- 32:34Speaker 1: not gonna worry about five years from now. You know
- 32:36Speaker 1: we're gonna push it out. When we get to five years,
- 32:39Speaker 1: we'll deal with it then.
- 32:40Speaker 8: The one thing I slightly disagree with you on Fred
- 32:42Speaker 8: is I don't think now it's all about future, Like
- 32:45Speaker 8: I don't think the bill's going to eventually come do.
- 32:48Speaker 8: I think what Evan explained is you do the opposite.
- 32:52Speaker 8: If you just write the check and give them the
- 32:54Speaker 8: money up front, it lessens the future problem. It allows
- 32:58Speaker 8: you to spread the caper out, but you've given them
- 33:02Speaker 8: the money.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah, those in those deals.
- 33:04Speaker 8: You're right, No, But I think that's like a major
- 33:06Speaker 8: mechanism that people create catch.
- 33:08Speaker 9: I just feel like people think that it's eventually, you know,
- 33:12Speaker 9: like at the beginning of Rocky, He's like goes down
- 33:14Speaker 9: to the docks to collect right, Like eventually the league
- 33:17Speaker 9: is going to come in, like bring some bully to
- 33:19Speaker 9: come collect the money.
- 33:20Speaker 8: That's not happening, Like, the league is not going anywhere.
- 33:22Speaker 8: New Orleans Saints right now. Okay, the New Orlean Saints are.
- 33:26Speaker 8: They're okay, Like we saw them here and we were
- 33:29Speaker 8: talking about it heading in, you know, with Michael Thomas
- 33:33Speaker 8: and Chris Olave and you know Cam Jordan and Derek
- 33:36Speaker 8: Carr and Alvin Kamara, and you're like, I know that
- 33:39Speaker 8: no one thinks much of the Saints, but they have
- 33:41Speaker 8: a lot of players that I think I would like
- 33:43Speaker 8: to have on the Patriots. They every year come February
- 33:50Speaker 8: wearing Capture Hill. It's all over Twitter. The Saints are
- 33:54Speaker 8: projected to be seventy three million over the cap, and
- 33:57Speaker 8: somehow they find a way to retain most of those
- 34:01Speaker 8: names that everybody's familiar with and remain a competitive team. Now,
- 34:06Speaker 8: Derek Carr isn't as good as Drew Brees, so they're
- 34:09Speaker 8: no longer a title contender. I get it. But they
- 34:13Speaker 8: were able to acquire a guy, give them some money.
- 34:15Speaker 8: They gave him pretty good contract for a starting quarterback
- 34:18Speaker 8: in the league. It's not like that they have a cheap,
- 34:21Speaker 8: you know, rookie deal and they're okay, so it's not
- 34:24Speaker 8: a train wreck. But every year everybody tells me, what
- 34:27Speaker 8: a train wreck?
- 34:28Speaker 1: But let me so, I'm gonna play Devil's advocate here.
- 34:31Speaker 1: What happens when you're top heavy in terms you've got
- 34:33Speaker 1: to start and you don't have the quarterback? Can can
- 34:38Speaker 1: you win that way?
- 34:39Speaker 11: Well?
- 34:39Speaker 1: And you know my point, and you don't have that
- 34:41Speaker 1: middle class that the Patriots have always talked about.
- 34:44Speaker 8: My point is they're telling you, they're showing you, yes
- 34:46Speaker 8: they can.
- 34:46Speaker 1: No, they're not gonna win. They don't have a shot.
- 34:49Speaker 8: Win what the super Bowl? Oh okay, yeah, So I
- 34:52Speaker 8: mean if that's there's twenty eight teams that can't win
- 34:54Speaker 8: the Super Bowl.
- 34:55Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I don't I don't agree with that.
- 34:57Speaker 9: So just twenty just to kind of because I know
- 35:00Speaker 9: that a lot of people probably like lost in the
- 35:03Speaker 9: math here. So the Baltimore Ravens this year are the
- 35:06Speaker 9: number one team in total cash spending, probably because they
- 35:08Speaker 9: just gave Lamar Jackson that huge contract, right, So they're
- 35:11Speaker 9: number one in the league in cash spending. They are
- 35:14Speaker 9: spending two hundred and eighty one million dollars on their
- 35:17Speaker 9: roster for twenty twenty three. The salary cap is two
- 35:21Speaker 9: hundred and twenty four million, so they're spending sixty million
- 35:26Speaker 9: dollars more than what the cap says they should be
- 35:29Speaker 9: able to spend on the team because they are doing
- 35:32Speaker 9: all these different things.
- 35:33Speaker 8: And no one is suggesting that any team should do
- 35:35Speaker 8: that every year. I mean, there are rules in place
- 35:37Speaker 8: that you can't do that every year, but no one
- 35:39Speaker 8: is suggesting the Patriots are dropping the ball. They should
- 35:42Speaker 8: be sixty million over the cap and cash spending every year.
- 35:45Speaker 8: No one can do that, Like you said, Fred, everybody
- 35:48Speaker 8: has a budget. Yeah, and I get that. Like these
- 35:50Speaker 8: are all just sort of different elements of Mike's original
- 35:55Speaker 8: question about the second contracts.
- 35:57Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean they are spending almost one hundred million
- 36:00Speaker 9: dollars more on their team this year than the Patriots,
- 36:03Speaker 9: Like that's crazy and it's not. Look, cash spending does
- 36:08Speaker 9: not equate to winning, like number one is Baltimore and
- 36:11Speaker 9: number two is the Cleveland Browns.
- 36:13Speaker 8: So and again all about the quarterback contract which hasn't worked.
- 36:19Speaker 8: Now Baltimore is is working, but that's you know, it's
- 36:23Speaker 8: not a guarantee. Like to Evan's point, guy has a
- 36:26Speaker 8: labor issue. He hasn't played in a month. They're a
- 36:30Speaker 8: pretty good team, Like you could see the talent on them.
- 36:32Speaker 8: They should have won that game in Seattle the other
- 36:34Speaker 8: day with PJ. Walker again doing nothing this fantastic. Their
- 36:38Speaker 8: defense is pretty good. They have some skilled guys. They
- 36:41Speaker 8: just don't have a quarterback because the quarterback is hurt
- 36:43Speaker 8: and because and he wasn't playing all that great before k.
- 36:47Speaker 9: But you know, the Jets are number three again another
- 36:49Speaker 9: team that's paying their quarterback, and then Buffalo is number four.
- 36:53Speaker 8: So I would argue that maybe, with the exception of Cleveland,
- 36:57Speaker 8: those other three teams absolutely at full strength are super
- 37:01Speaker 8: Bowl contenders.
- 37:02Speaker 1: Correct. Oh, Jets for sure, and if.
- 37:04Speaker 8: And if Watson played the majority of the games like
- 37:07Speaker 8: you did that one game, they would be a super
- 37:10Speaker 8: Bowl contender too.
- 37:11Speaker 9: They were getting on Watson, the return on investment on Watson,
- 37:15Speaker 9: they would be a super Bowl team.
- 37:17Speaker 8: Right, So to you a point, Freddie, maybe it's more
- 37:19Speaker 8: like ten teams that have a legitimate chance to win
- 37:22Speaker 8: the super Bowl, but then five.
- 37:24Speaker 1: But I'm just I'm just thinking that, you know, the
- 37:29Speaker 1: Patriot way was to have that middle class. Unfortunately they
- 37:33Speaker 1: could never prove it because they had Tom Brady, Like,
- 37:37Speaker 1: you could never prove that that works without the best
- 37:41Speaker 1: prayer of all time.
- 37:41Speaker 8: It's a great summation of you know, because we I
- 37:44Speaker 8: make fun of Mike all the time. This is this
- 37:46Speaker 8: predates you, Evan. I always call Mike. He still believes
- 37:48Speaker 8: in Santa Claus like, he still thinks it's because all
- 37:51Speaker 8: of those things. You know, it's not about the best
- 37:52Speaker 8: fifty three, it's the right fifty three. Yeah, as long
- 37:55Speaker 8: as number twelve as one of the fifty three, Yes,
- 37:57Speaker 8: you can have any philosophy you want, you'll be a contender.
- 38:00Speaker 1: He makes them all work.
- 38:01Speaker 9: Yeah, they were doing because like when they were doing
- 38:03Speaker 9: a miked up thing for the Bruins, I behind the
- 38:06Speaker 9: be and it was like roster cutdown day and one
- 38:08Speaker 9: of the players was like I think Pasa is gonna
- 38:11Speaker 9: make it. I don't know, and it's like, you know,
- 38:13Speaker 9: it's it. That was how it was with Brady. Would
- 38:16Speaker 9: always say like, oh, I got to make the team
- 38:18Speaker 9: and you know, and it was like, seriously, guy. But
- 38:21Speaker 9: I still think even with Brady though, like they still
- 38:24Speaker 9: had Gronkowski, they still had Edelman, they still had you know,
- 38:28Speaker 9: guys on the other side of the football, you know,
- 38:29Speaker 9: High Tower and Devin mccorty and players like that. So
- 38:34Speaker 9: as much as I feel like they've also lost sight
- 38:36Speaker 9: of the fact that they also had other stars, Like
- 38:40Speaker 9: Gronkowski was his own star, and I think Gronkowski playing
- 38:44Speaker 9: with probably thirty other quarterbacks would have still been Rob Gronkowski.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Oh, Gronk for sure. But do you think Edelman would.
- 38:49Speaker 9: Have maybe maybe not just because of the system. I
- 38:53Speaker 9: think here probably brought out the best in him.
- 38:55Speaker 1: But do you think that having Brady in those points
- 38:58Speaker 1: made it easier on guys like mccordy to play defense?
- 39:01Speaker 8: Yep, sure, I think the offense.
- 39:03Speaker 1: I mean it's a huge trickle down effect from having
- 39:07Speaker 1: Tom Brady. It helps everybody.
- 39:09Speaker 8: Yeah, I think Gronk is an example who is a
- 39:11Speaker 8: standalone He's a Hall of Fame. Yeah, he's a you
- 39:14Speaker 8: would have been.
- 39:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:15Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 39:16Speaker 11: It's funny each each year Tom Brady just gets a
- 39:18Speaker 11: little more credit.
- 39:19Speaker 1: He sure does, it, sure does.
- 39:22Speaker 8: It's absolutely right.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Yeah, as you get away, you appreciate it more.
- 39:25Speaker 9: And Fred and I will tell you, Mike, how's it
- 39:27Speaker 9: feel now?
- 39:28Speaker 8: Yeah? Fred and I will tell you that we were
- 39:30Speaker 8: not on that side and I were both more on
- 39:33Speaker 8: the you know, never like one hundred to zero, but
- 39:35Speaker 8: more like maybe sixty forty.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Bill. I always thought, right, each made the other great great?
- 39:41Speaker 8: But didn't you always give Bill more? I did? Maybe
- 39:43Speaker 8: I'm speaking for you. I always gave Bill Moore the credit.
- 39:45Speaker 8: Well that I gave you Tom. I think when I
- 39:47Speaker 8: was wrong when we had the poll. You can only
- 39:49Speaker 8: have one at the time, we said the coach.
- 39:52Speaker 9: I just wonder if, like is it is. I don't
- 39:57Speaker 9: think that Bill a coach, for it is no longer
- 40:00Speaker 9: a good coach.
- 40:01Speaker 8: Or forgot how to coach.
- 40:02Speaker 9: He still knows how to coach, but it's the personnel stuff,
- 40:05Speaker 9: like he just he's lost touch with how to build
- 40:08Speaker 9: a modern NFL roster.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Well, I remember when he first got here, Robert Kraft said,
- 40:13Speaker 1: you know, one of the other things that I like
- 40:15Speaker 1: about him. He has an economics degree from Wesley, and
- 40:18Speaker 1: so he understands the economics. But now those fundamentals of
- 40:22Speaker 1: economics have been blown out the window. It's now credit card.
- 40:26Speaker 1: It's not the family budget and you know, let's have
- 40:30Speaker 1: a balanced budget. It doesn't That's not how it is anymore.
- 40:33Speaker 11: I'm going to disagree a little bit, Okay. I mean,
- 40:36Speaker 11: I think that coaching is a complex thing. There's a
- 40:39Speaker 11: certain aspect of knowing the game and knowing strategy and
- 40:43Speaker 11: how to do things. There's also a major element of
- 40:46Speaker 11: coaching getting the team on the same page, getting the
- 40:49Speaker 11: team to follow you. Now, you know, Paul makes his
- 40:51Speaker 11: jokes about me still believing in Santa Claus. The Santa
- 40:53Speaker 11: Claus I believe in is that the best.
- 40:55Speaker 12: Teams are teams that all kind of like each other.
- 40:57Speaker 12: That's what I like.
- 40:58Speaker 11: You know, I get like the Fuoli quote, and we
- 40:59Speaker 11: can you know, we joke about that. It's fine, but
- 41:02Speaker 11: I truly believe that. And it's hard to engineer. You
- 41:05Speaker 11: can't go out and just find guys that are all
- 41:06Speaker 11: going to get along. There's a certain like, you know,
- 41:08Speaker 11: just magic too. We all played sports in high school
- 41:10Speaker 11: where you just kind of end up on a team
- 41:11Speaker 11: and you get who you get on your team. From
- 41:13Speaker 11: my experience, the teams that were all kind of on
- 41:16Speaker 11: separate pages and you know, you had this kind of personality,
- 41:18Speaker 11: didn't really like, didn't do too well.
- 41:20Speaker 12: Teams that you all felt like a family and did well.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Those are first, the winning and everyone each other, you know.
- 41:26Speaker 8: And let me get back to my point though.
- 41:28Speaker 11: But my point is that I don't think this looks
- 41:30Speaker 11: like a team that's all on the same page, that's
- 41:32Speaker 11: all pulling for the coach and so like I and
- 41:35Speaker 11: so I think that that's a criticism that I totally
- 41:38Speaker 11: right about the personnel stuff that's killed them.
- 41:40Speaker 1: But is that more an indictment on the modern athlete.
- 41:42Speaker 1: It's not even just the NFL, like perhaps, great, we're
- 41:46Speaker 1: all together.
- 41:47Speaker 11: Perhaps, I mean perhaps look, you know, he's been doing
- 41:49Speaker 11: it forever, and it is the modern athlete.
- 41:52Speaker 12: It's it's it's a hard thing, you know.
- 41:54Speaker 11: I mean you can't really quantify what it is, but
- 41:56Speaker 11: I just you know, look a well cool like, have
- 41:58Speaker 11: we seen a well coached team?
- 42:00Speaker 12: There?
- 42:00Speaker 11: Is that a well coached team that's making stupid mistakes
- 42:02Speaker 11: over and over and over again, Like, you know, all
- 42:04Speaker 11: respect to Bill and the greatest coach of all time, YadA, YadA, YadA,
- 42:07Speaker 11: but like, look, this is what we're seeing. I'm not
- 42:09Speaker 11: seeing a well coached team. So I'm sure he's a
- 42:11Speaker 11: great coach. He knows everything, but whatever, he's not pushing
- 42:14Speaker 11: the right buttons.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Well.
- 42:15Speaker 1: I mean, if you look at the evolution of the
- 42:16Speaker 1: Patriots in the early and the first part of the dynasty,
- 42:20Speaker 1: he had those seasoned coaches.
- 42:22Speaker 12: And Lockerham policed itself.
- 42:23Speaker 1: And then as those coaches started leaving, you know, Brady
- 42:27Speaker 1: got better. So Brady got made up for the brain drain,
- 42:31Speaker 1: you know. But then it got to a point.
- 42:33Speaker 8: Where I agree with you, Mike. I know you said,
- 42:36Speaker 8: like you want to push back a little bit. I
- 42:37Speaker 8: think everything you said is right. I just would give
- 42:39Speaker 8: more of the credit in retrospect. I didn't think it
- 42:42Speaker 8: at the time, but in retrospect, I give more of
- 42:45Speaker 8: the credit for that mentality to Brady. In the uniting fact,
- 42:49Speaker 8: like I've heard enough of these stories now about these
- 42:52Speaker 8: sort of random guys that were like blown away by
- 42:55Speaker 8: the fact that he even knew who they were. Like,
- 42:59Speaker 8: I think that he was a bigger part of that
- 43:02Speaker 8: than we ever imagined. And it's the same coach now
- 43:07Speaker 8: and you're talking about all the things, and I think
- 43:08Speaker 8: you were one hundred percent right. I just wanded a
- 43:11Speaker 8: Buffalo game. What other game could you point to this
- 43:13Speaker 8: year that they looked like a really well oyal.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Teach And just think of the tone that Brady said
- 43:18Speaker 1: at practice, like we hear now this what we've always
- 43:21Speaker 1: heard the stories about how he made every practice so
- 43:24Speaker 1: damn competitive, you know and demanding, and it like practice
- 43:29Speaker 1: was almost like a game between the offensive defense and
- 43:32Speaker 1: you know, guys wanted to win that day, and you
- 43:35Speaker 1: had guys like you know, Rodney Harrison who bought into
- 43:38Speaker 1: that you know, hook line and sinker like you know
- 43:41Speaker 1: in you know, it was like the back and forth
- 43:43Speaker 1: and practice was like a game.
- 43:45Speaker 8: What was that story that Rabel told, I mean, Belichick
- 43:48Speaker 8: told that Rabel's time about Rabel serving as like Troy Polamalu, yeah,
- 43:55Speaker 8: you know, and he's like as a quarterback didn't like
- 43:57Speaker 8: it very much, you know, yeah, right, like all of
- 43:59Speaker 8: a sudden, they have a going.
- 44:00Speaker 1: On because he's not doing it right.
- 44:03Speaker 12: I think go too with that.
- 44:04Speaker 11: Defensive group, which you know, was it was a big
- 44:06Speaker 11: part of those first three championships that I think that
- 44:08Speaker 11: Bill was kind of the right thing for that group
- 44:10Speaker 11: because you had a you know, you had a veteran
- 44:12Speaker 11: corps that had been to a super Bowl before.
- 44:14Speaker 12: That kind of knew Bill a little bit.
- 44:15Speaker 11: And I think, you know, that style I think just
- 44:17Speaker 11: worked for them, like that early three oh four defense.
- 44:20Speaker 11: Like you know, I think the buttons that Bill was
- 44:22Speaker 11: able to push, I think had had a big impact
- 44:24Speaker 11: to I mean not you know, not to take away
- 44:26Speaker 11: from what Brady did, but I think he was a
- 44:28Speaker 11: really good.
- 44:31Speaker 12: For those years, you know.
- 44:32Speaker 11: And and now it's a different team, and now you've
- 44:34Speaker 11: got a lot of young guys that weren't here for that,
- 44:36Speaker 11: and you know, they they have an idea in their
- 44:38Speaker 11: head of what they watched on TV as children watching
- 44:42Speaker 11: the Patriots.
- 44:42Speaker 12: It's not that.
- 44:43Speaker 1: And Bill's style worked perfectly for That's what Brady wanted.
- 44:46Speaker 1: He wanted no nonsense, he wanted guys, and that's what
- 44:51Speaker 1: Bill wanted, and they were they were completely in sync
- 44:54Speaker 1: those early years.
- 44:55Speaker 11: And then you can really tap what you know Bill,
- 44:57Speaker 11: which no one is going to argue that Bill doesn't
- 44:59Speaker 11: have an insight glopedic knowledge of the NFL and schemes
- 45:02Speaker 11: and everything that's happened and all of that.
- 45:04Speaker 12: But you know, it's one thing to know all that stuff.
- 45:06Speaker 11: Then that's another to look at what Mike McDaniel's doing
- 45:08Speaker 11: in Miami and trying to figure out how to stop it,
- 45:10Speaker 11: and hello, we haven't been able to stop it, you know,
- 45:14Speaker 11: So at what point do we say, hey, greatest coach
- 45:17Speaker 11: of all time, we need we need to be able
- 45:19Speaker 11: to beat Miami Dolphins if we're going to get back
- 45:20Speaker 11: into this thing. There were division rival you're paying them
- 45:22Speaker 11: two years in a row, and for the second time
- 45:24Speaker 11: in two years and really should have probably been three
- 45:26Speaker 11: years in a row, you've gotten swept by them.
- 45:27Speaker 9: Yeah, I think you know, me and Paul I think
- 45:31Speaker 9: disagree maybe a little bit on Mac's ability on the field.
- 45:36Speaker 9: But the thing that you said yesterday about like his
- 45:38Speaker 9: leadership and the confidence and like the intangible stuff that
- 45:43Speaker 9: is I really like feel like that's come to light
- 45:45Speaker 9: for me this year because I gave him a pass
- 45:48Speaker 9: on all that stuff when he was because he was
- 45:50Speaker 9: a young player, you know, rookie second year guy, not
- 45:53Speaker 9: really what you're expecting to be sort of carrying the
- 45:57Speaker 9: torch at the front of the line necessarily. But now
- 46:00Speaker 9: he's in year three. I just I think that that's
- 46:02Speaker 9: a big thing that is currently missing from him, is
- 46:07Speaker 9: that I don't know if he's got that in factor,
- 46:11Speaker 9: that leadership like, and it's not just about like the
- 46:14Speaker 9: raw ras speeches and stuff like that. It's just like
- 46:17Speaker 9: oozing confidence and you know that that ability to lead
- 46:22Speaker 9: by example, and I think that was what Brady had.
- 46:26Speaker 9: Like when Brady, you know, for a couple of years
- 46:28Speaker 9: that I got to cover him. When Brady would walk
- 46:31Speaker 9: into the locker room, the press conference room, whatever, it
- 46:37Speaker 9: was like, oh shit, Tom Brady's in here, you know
- 46:40Speaker 9: what I mean, Like yeah, and I didn't even notice,
- 46:45Speaker 9: and it was it was just you could tell that
- 46:48Speaker 9: he right and who he was.
- 46:50Speaker 1: And again, we don't see the practices. We see training camp,
- 46:53Speaker 1: but we don't see the practice during the season. If
- 46:56Speaker 1: the if, the if if a majority of the practices,
- 47:00Speaker 1: you know, focusing on getting that quarterback better, the rest
- 47:04Speaker 1: of the team's like, yeah, spend another this time trying
- 47:07Speaker 1: to get one guy to do the right thing.
- 47:08Speaker 8: But the funny part about what Evan says to this
- 47:11Speaker 8: is real quick, Mike, look, just I felt like Mac
- 47:13Speaker 8: had a lot of those qualities as a rookie. Yeah,
- 47:16Speaker 8: it was last year that kind of opened my eyes.
- 47:18Speaker 8: Like I get that there was a lot of things
- 47:20Speaker 8: that weren't fair to him last year, but you got
- 47:23Speaker 8: to be able to handle some of them better than
- 47:25Speaker 8: he handled them. And now I think that's carried over
- 47:27Speaker 8: into this year.
- 47:27Speaker 11: Yeah, I was, I mean, I was just gonna say,
- 47:29Speaker 11: you know, it's it's I mean, Evan used the example
- 47:31Speaker 11: of Tom Brady, which, of course by that point, like
- 47:33Speaker 11: he's just a superstar and he has that, but even
- 47:35Speaker 11: like you know, just Will Levice in his first start
- 47:37Speaker 11: last week, just looking at him on the field, you're
- 47:39Speaker 11: like this.
- 47:40Speaker 12: Guy, like, this guy looks like you can play. I mean,
- 47:42Speaker 12: you know, like there's just something about Yeah, I mean
- 47:44Speaker 12: like Tom.
- 47:44Speaker 11: Brady Richardson, you know, like you look at him and
- 47:46Speaker 11: you're like, I'm on board, you know some stuff, you know,
- 47:49Speaker 11: there's some stuff there, and like Mac like I think,
- 47:51Speaker 11: I like, I don't know, I'm kind of more on Evan's.
- 47:53Speaker 9: Side, where Brady is like probably obviously an unfair bar.
- 47:56Speaker 9: But yeah, unfortunately we didn't get to cover Cam in
- 47:59Speaker 9: person because the cod but cam cam was another guy
- 48:03Speaker 9: that like that was Cam Newton, like Heisman Trophy, MVP
- 48:07Speaker 9: like that that that guy carried weight where he was and.
- 48:11Speaker 8: It was bad, like he didn't play well. He didn't
- 48:14Speaker 8: play well.
- 48:15Speaker 9: But it wasn't because people didn't believe in him. And
- 48:18Speaker 9: I remember, you know, Jacoby talking about it. It was
- 48:22Speaker 9: his second year and Jacoby just being like, I mean
- 48:25Speaker 9: Cam Newton, like, of course I'm going to listen to
- 48:27Speaker 9: the advice that he has for my career, and and
- 48:30Speaker 9: it just those are the types of guys that I
- 48:33Speaker 9: feel that that And I don't I look so much
- 48:36Speaker 9: at that at the film the x's and knows and
- 48:37Speaker 9: all that stuff, like you don't really think about the
- 48:39Speaker 9: person and the intangibles and the next guy's got to
- 48:41Speaker 9: have that it factor.
- 48:42Speaker 8: I feel like if Mac had those intangibles coming out
- 48:45Speaker 8: of his pockets like a lot of other guys do,
- 48:47Speaker 8: I think his skill set would be fine. So like
- 48:50Speaker 8: to like Evan started that by saying, we probably disagree
- 48:53Speaker 8: a little bit. We probably do. You're right, but I
- 48:55Speaker 8: do think I've seen guys succeed with his level of skill,
- 49:00Speaker 8: and I think what holds them back sometimes is some
- 49:02Speaker 8: of these other things.
- 49:03Speaker 1: All Right, good discussion, Paulic. We're gonna Yeah, We're gonna refuel.

- 50:00Speaker 12: What's up, everybody?
- 50:01Speaker 10: Check out this clip from the latest episode of Pats
- 50:03Speaker 10: from the Past featuring Mike Vrabel.
- 50:05Speaker 16: You know in four years, you did a lot, but
- 50:07Speaker 16: you wanted to start. Did you get a sense, maybe
- 50:09Speaker 16: on that visit or early on Mike that these guys
- 50:12Speaker 16: had a good idea of how to use you.
- 50:14Speaker 17: Well, I can remember having a conversation with Bill and
- 50:17Speaker 17: him saying, hey, really, all we need is what you
- 50:20Speaker 17: did in that preseason game last year against Miami. And
- 50:24Speaker 17: I'm thinking I don't even remember playing Miami in the preseason,
- 50:28Speaker 17: but Bill had gone back and he had watched and
- 50:30Speaker 17: there were clips that he must have seen that there
- 50:33Speaker 17: was a vision for probably an extended playtime at that
- 50:38Speaker 17: point in time in the preseason or whatever it was.
- 50:43Speaker 17: And so then I started thinking, Okay, well, at least
- 50:45Speaker 17: you know they have an idea of how they want
- 50:47Speaker 17: to use me or what I maybe able to do there.
- 50:51Speaker 17: Bill had talked about the opportunity, not guaranteeing anything, but
- 50:55Speaker 17: saying that there would be a spot at you know,
- 50:57Speaker 17: available pretty much at outside linebacker where you know they
- 51:00Speaker 17: would have some other players to compete with, and then
- 51:04Speaker 17: see where things were.
- 51:05Speaker 8: When you look at the way your years unfolded, it's
- 51:08Speaker 8: almost like it was a perfect system for you. I mean,
- 51:10Speaker 8: did you catch that right away, like they really want
- 51:14Speaker 8: to use me exactly to you know, my skills.
- 51:17Speaker 17: Wasn't being misused at Pittsburgh. I had just transitioned from
- 51:20Speaker 17: a couple of different positions, you know, was rotating in
- 51:24Speaker 17: and was getting some playing time three and four years
- 51:28Speaker 17: in special teams and third down packages, whatever that may be.
- 51:32Speaker 17: But this was a new opportunity, some carryover from Pittsburgh,
- 51:38Speaker 17: some different and then as things progressed and.
- 51:41Speaker 3: It was you know, learn this position.
- 51:43Speaker 17: I actually I think I played two seasons inside linebacker
- 51:47Speaker 17: or that season and a half at some point in time,
- 51:50Speaker 17: and you'll find myself at different spots.
- 51:54Speaker 12: Do you.
- 51:54Speaker 16: I've heard this from many ex players, guys who you
- 51:56Speaker 16: played with and everything like that. Were you able to
- 51:58Speaker 16: get away with more as far as like maybe busting
- 52:01Speaker 16: Bill's ball?
- 52:02Speaker 3: I don't know. I think the time is that is
- 52:03Speaker 3: that overrated? No, I don't think it's overrated. I think
- 52:06Speaker 3: that there is.
- 52:08Speaker 17: Like I said yesterday, I think I said things that
- 52:10Speaker 17: everybody wanted to say, and I probably was just dumb
- 52:13Speaker 17: enough to say it. I sometimes say the quiet part
- 52:16Speaker 17: out loud sometimes unfortunately, but it's all timing and sometimes.
- 52:21Speaker 3: You know, you know, it's a it's a it's a.
- 52:24Speaker 17: Turn to punch bowl and doesn't always work, but sometimes
- 52:27Speaker 17: it works out pretty good. But but that takes a
- 52:31Speaker 17: little bit of time and it takes you know, again,
- 52:33Speaker 17: you have to be willing to take it if you
- 52:35Speaker 17: want to give it. And I think that Bill always
- 52:38Speaker 17: was very conscious of that, whether that's players to Bill
- 52:42Speaker 17: or Bill to us. You know, he knew that, you know,
- 52:46Speaker 17: we had to sit there and and take it when
- 52:49Speaker 17: we got the low lights and you know, we'd be
- 52:51Speaker 17: on the bellustrator and it would be like what we
- 52:54Speaker 17: can't do? And so it just it was a good
- 52:57Speaker 17: situation with a bunch of really good teammates that that
- 52:59Speaker 17: all kind of rally behind that.
- 53:01Speaker 16: Do you think maybe, I mean, you were able to
- 53:03Speaker 16: back it up with you play though, Mike, I don't
- 53:04Speaker 16: know if that's a fifty third or fifty fourth guy
- 53:06Speaker 16: that was trying to crack wise, it might be different. Well,
- 53:10Speaker 16: you you were a guy on all three phases of
- 53:12Speaker 16: the game.
- 53:13Speaker 17: Yeah, I mean, but I think that that's what makes
- 53:16Speaker 17: a locker room. It's just different personalities. Again, you have
- 53:21Speaker 17: to perform on the field and then whatever your personality is.
- 53:25Speaker 17: I think that was there was no restrictions on, Hey,
- 53:28Speaker 17: we just want a bunch of robots. That's I think
- 53:30Speaker 17: that was the impression that everybody had, and we certainly
- 53:33Speaker 17: weren't that.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Well.
- 53:34Speaker 8: The best thing about Mike, and I told you this
- 53:36Speaker 8: a million times, Mike didn't care who he was busting on. Professional.
- 53:40Speaker 8: I used to call you a professional ballbuster.
- 53:42Speaker 1: That's what you were.
- 53:43Speaker 8: I'd come in with like a TV shirt on one
- 53:45Speaker 8: day and he goes, look at this fraud. He's got
- 53:47Speaker 8: TV and it didn't matter. He treated all of us
- 53:49Speaker 8: the same, and I think that's probably permeated the locker room,
- 53:52Speaker 8: and he guarded respect in that way.
- 53:54Speaker 17: Well again, I think the fact that if you have
- 53:58Speaker 17: a relationship with somebody, I think that's when you kind
- 54:01Speaker 17: of go back and forth with them.
- 54:02Speaker 3: It's like having a nickname.
- 54:03Speaker 17: You don't have a nickname, you know, there's no such
- 54:05Speaker 17: thing as a bad nickname, just the appreciative that you
- 54:07Speaker 17: have a nickname. That means that they know who you
- 54:09Speaker 17: are and that you're kind of a part of the group.
- 54:13Speaker 17: And if you don't have a nickname, you know, you
- 54:14Speaker 17: better try to figure out why. And so it was
- 54:18Speaker 17: whether it was a relationship with the media, you know
- 54:22Speaker 17: it was a two way street. Assistant coaches and certainly teammates.
- 54:26Speaker 3: Much has been made.
- 54:28Speaker 16: You played in a different era of believe it or not,
- 54:30Speaker 16: where and as during your career the league was starting
- 54:33Speaker 16: to legislate against defenses hard hitting and everything like that.
- 54:37Speaker 16: When you look back at the Warner play Ties interception,
- 54:41Speaker 16: I just thought it was very generous of Tie to
- 54:43Speaker 16: give you credit yesterday to are you gonna get flagged
- 54:45Speaker 16: for that if that play happens today?
- 54:47Speaker 3: Do you think? I don't know.
- 54:48Speaker 17: I mean, I think that what we've talked about is
- 54:50Speaker 17: matching the hand, and they've they've they've changed here in
- 54:53Speaker 17: the last year or two about what's forcible.
- 54:56Speaker 3: Well, I don't know, you know what I mean, I
- 54:58Speaker 3: should have gotten there sooner, to be honest with. They
- 55:00Speaker 3: didn't block men.
- 55:00Speaker 17: It was just a lucky play and tied it all
- 55:02Speaker 17: the work. And but whether it's you know, as long
- 55:05Speaker 17: as it's not forcible. You know, we've talked about matching
- 55:08Speaker 17: a hand and the same thing that they teach here
- 55:10Speaker 17: and you know everybody else is trying to teach.
- 55:12Speaker 3: And didn't hit the football. I'm glad that I did
- 55:15Speaker 3: it so that Ty was able to catch it the score.
- 55:33Speaker 18: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, no
- 55:38Speaker 18: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 55:42Speaker 18: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx. Where
- 55:45Speaker 18: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 55:50Speaker 2: And now great moments in.
- 55:54Speaker 3: History.
- 55:55Speaker 1: I'm fine with it.
- 55:56Speaker 8: I know you.
- 55:57Speaker 1: I mean what it's toime freaking break.
- 55:59Speaker 8: I know you're fine, you know it.
- 56:01Speaker 1: I know it hurt him last year, like they didn't
- 56:03Speaker 1: win the super Bowl enough.
- 56:05Speaker 8: See this is what this is slow September.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it did slow them down in September.
- 56:09Speaker 8: Yeah, this is this is why you can't have conversations
- 56:12Speaker 8: with him, because I I know that instead of remaining yes, yes,
- 56:17Speaker 8: you know what, it's a fact based on what you
- 56:19Speaker 8: just said that they won the super Bowl because he
- 56:21Speaker 8: didn't show up for the off season, I said, that's
- 56:23Speaker 8: what you're trying to insinuate.
- 56:24Speaker 1: I said it didn't hurt them. I'm not I'm not insinuating.
- 56:28Speaker 1: I'm saying it didn't hurt them. They won the Super Bowl.
- 56:31Speaker 8: Would be and that's why my warrior.
- 56:33Speaker 1: Now again you're putting words in my mind.
- 56:36Speaker 8: Well I well, well I'm going to insinuate that it
- 56:38Speaker 8: did hurt. If he was here, they could have maybe
- 56:41Speaker 8: they didn't would have taken seventeen weeks to get the
- 56:43Speaker 8: offense in tune if he was here. I mean, if
- 56:46Speaker 8: we could just make stuff up, then I'm going to
- 56:48Speaker 8: do it too.
- 56:49Speaker 2: That's another great moment from.
- 56:54Speaker 1: All Right, we're back on Patriots Unfiltered, and I just
- 56:57Speaker 1: want to let you know that Bridge Don't is the

- 57:15Speaker 1: your new tires.
- 57:16Speaker 12: You're talking to me, I hear it.
- 57:17Speaker 1: Bridge Stone tread on your tires.
- 57:20Speaker 12: How do you test that?
- 57:21Speaker 8: Like a certain test?
- 57:22Speaker 1: You use a penny, Yeah, and you put the penny
- 57:25Speaker 1: in the tread and if it gets to Abe Lincoln's
- 57:28Speaker 1: head or something, or his eyes or it doesn't, then
- 57:31Speaker 1: you need you know, you need new tires. Too much tread.
- 57:34Speaker 9: It's not too little tread.
- 57:36Speaker 1: Too much tread?
- 57:38Speaker 12: Oh car guy?
- 57:39Speaker 9: People confuse that is that too much tread?
- 57:41Speaker 1: Yeah? What do you mean?
- 57:43Speaker 8: Like it's the opposite of what you think.
- 57:46Speaker 9: I don't understand, Like I think a lot of people
- 57:48Speaker 9: say like, oh you have not like there's too little
- 57:52Speaker 9: tread on your tire.
- 57:52Speaker 1: It's too like, oh, you have a lot of tread
- 57:55Speaker 1: on your tire. I guess you could you've used it
- 57:57Speaker 1: a lot. Oh okay, yeah, I got you.
- 58:00Speaker 11: I thought you were trying to tell me that ball
- 58:01Speaker 11: tires were better for a second there, and you need
- 58:03Speaker 11: more tread on your tire.
- 58:04Speaker 12: But I got you.
- 58:05Speaker 1: But like the he's got a lot of tread on
- 58:08Speaker 1: his tires, that means you're getting old. You're getting old,
- 58:11Speaker 1: thanks a lot.
- 58:13Speaker 8: Thanks for nothing.
- 58:17Speaker 1: So what is the term for having good tires?
- 58:21Speaker 3: I don't know that.
- 58:22Speaker 11: Uh, that's the real hard A lot of tread he
- 58:26Speaker 11: got me with not a lot of tread on.
- 58:27Speaker 8: Him fresh tires maybe fresh tire that you would say, but.
- 58:31Speaker 11: Don't you call him the treads the treads on the.
- 58:33Speaker 1: Tire, tire tread.
- 58:35Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 58:36Speaker 12: It's so, maybe we're getting confused, because.
- 58:38Speaker 1: This is where I think we're getting into a patres
- 58:40Speaker 1: and filtered discussion. It's like, you know, where's Eric when.
- 58:43Speaker 8: You need my point? It's confusing the old the old
- 58:47Speaker 8: days when you used to have sixteen game seasons. You know,
- 58:49Speaker 8: after four games, you would you know, you're check in
- 58:52Speaker 8: at the quarter pole. It's really the.
- 58:54Speaker 1: Three quarters the three quarter pole, right, Yeah, A lot
- 58:58Speaker 1: of tread on that. And like Matt, Matt Slater at
- 59:00Speaker 1: his locker after the game, we're in unchartered waters. No,
- 59:05Speaker 1: it's uncharted unchartered waters.
- 59:07Speaker 8: Correct.
- 59:08Speaker 11: I wouldn't chart my way to those waters either, just.
- 59:10Speaker 9: To be that is why I can explain the NFL
- 59:12Speaker 9: salary cap. But I am totally lost in this conversation.
- 59:16Speaker 8: It is uncharted.
- 59:17Speaker 1: Fred's right.
- 59:18Speaker 8: The word is uncharted, Heed, not there's no map of it.
- 59:22Speaker 11: You didn't really didn't charter a boat at the beginning
- 59:23Speaker 11: of the season and say hey, let's go to two
- 59:25Speaker 11: and six land.
- 59:27Speaker 8: Don't know where it is now.
- 59:29Speaker 1: It is true that you can't shot a a boat
- 59:30Speaker 1: to something you don't have a map of because you
- 59:32Speaker 1: don't know what exists. So in a way, you know anyway,
- 59:36Speaker 1: All right, eight five five pasts five hundred is the
- 59:39Speaker 1: ace ticket hutline. We'll start with Patty and aguam, what's up, Patty?
- 59:43Speaker 3: What's right?
- 59:44Speaker 19: Right?
- 59:46Speaker 14: I want to go back to conversation that Fred and
- 59:49Speaker 14: and Paul had prior to the season starting and regarding
- 59:54Speaker 14: mac Jones. And I'm not trying to dog pile on
- 59:56Speaker 14: mac Jones, but I think, and I'm paraphrasing, but Fred question,
- 1:00:01Speaker 14: what's going to take for this team to make the
- 1:00:02Speaker 14: playoffs and make a real run. And I think Paul said,
- 1:00:06Speaker 14: I don't think he said elite, Paul, but I think
- 1:00:08Speaker 14: he said, I think the quarterback has to be excellent,
- 1:00:11Speaker 14: and I think through it safe to stay through a game.
- 1:00:14Speaker 14: We haven't seen it. We've seen it for a game.
- 1:00:17Speaker 14: I don't think we're going to see it for the
- 1:00:18Speaker 14: rest of the season. But and just going back to yesterday,
- 1:00:23Speaker 14: I forgot the caller's name, but you know, even when
- 1:00:25Speaker 14: the product on the field is lacking, the product in
- 1:00:29Speaker 14: studio study is on point, goes above and beyond.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: So right, thank you very much. Appreciate that it's because
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: of callers like you. Todz in North Carolina, what's up, Todd.
- 1:00:43Speaker 7: Hey, guys, I just listened to your early talking about
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: drafting and everything, and it just kind of something dawned
- 1:00:48Speaker 7: on me. We're a to take a chance team when
- 1:00:51Speaker 7: it comes to drafting offense. Like even the best guy
- 1:00:53Speaker 7: that we've ever got. Brady was a chance. You know,
- 1:00:55Speaker 7: it was the seventh round. You take a look at
- 1:00:58Speaker 7: bringing in Edelman and bringing up even bringing Walker from
- 1:01:01Speaker 7: the the Dolphins. I was like, hey, you guys are good,
- 1:01:03Speaker 7: Let's take a chance on Bronk, big chance, you know,
- 1:01:06Speaker 7: bumping Nikhil.
- 1:01:07Speaker 14: Harry is like, hey, look.
- 1:01:08Speaker 7: He's got something we might want take it. They don't
- 1:01:10Speaker 7: go for solid like I think with Gunzels that was
- 1:01:13Speaker 7: a solid pick. I think with a lot of their
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: defensive picks they go for solid, they see it. You know,
- 1:01:18Speaker 7: I think the solid pick would have been Zay Flowers.
- 1:01:20Speaker 7: To be honest with you, I don't understand why they
- 1:01:22Speaker 7: can't just take solid picks on offense. I think there's
- 1:01:25Speaker 7: something missing in their offensive mindset. They just don't seem
- 1:01:30Speaker 7: to be able to figure it out. And I don't
- 1:01:32Speaker 7: know why. I don't know what it is.
- 1:01:34Speaker 8: You guys, they've struggled. Yeah, it's a good point identifying.
- 1:01:39Speaker 12: Yeah, I mean, that's that's true.
- 1:01:40Speaker 11: I don't really attach Harry into that, like.
- 1:01:43Speaker 8: I just think I don't think Harry was like in
- 1:01:45Speaker 8: that category. But I agree with Todd's overall points.
- 1:01:48Speaker 11: Yeah, And I mean it's just the fact that they
- 1:01:49Speaker 11: hit on Gronk and they hit on Adaman, like you
- 1:01:51Speaker 11: know what I mean, they just you know.
- 1:01:53Speaker 12: They drafted him.
- 1:01:53Speaker 11: They you know, they had a plan, like you know,
- 1:01:55Speaker 11: give them credit for that, but you know, if those
- 1:01:56Speaker 11: picks hadn't happened, like where else are different?
- 1:01:59Speaker 8: To me? Identity Christian Gonzalez is not the same as
- 1:02:02Speaker 8: J C. Jackson.
- 1:02:03Speaker 9: Yeah, I think my frustration with their offensive drafting is
- 1:02:07Speaker 9: that they they somehow figure it out like on Day
- 1:02:11Speaker 9: three or an undrafted free agency even recently, but then
- 1:02:15Speaker 9: they don't target those traits early. So for example, Pop
- 1:02:20Speaker 9: Douglas is a perfect fit for the Bill O'Brien offense
- 1:02:24Speaker 9: because of his quickness and his ability with the football
- 1:02:27Speaker 9: in his hands. So instead they drafted Taekwon Thornton, who
- 1:02:32Speaker 9: is a linear burner that is a deep threat to
- 1:02:35Speaker 9: get up the field. So my whole thing has always
- 1:02:38Speaker 9: just been why are we not drafting Pop Douglas is
- 1:02:42Speaker 9: equivalent Flowers that's in a version, yea prospect And like
- 1:02:48Speaker 9: back in you know, I was texting with Barth as
- 1:02:51Speaker 9: we always do about everything and football wise, I mean,
- 1:02:55Speaker 9: and he was said, you know, in twenty nineteen we
- 1:02:59Speaker 9: were talking about Terry McLaurin, and he was like, you know,
- 1:03:02Speaker 9: we were running the board, we probably would have taken
- 1:03:05Speaker 9: Terry McLaurin, and it's like that that was he was
- 1:03:08Speaker 9: a route runner, he has good hands, he goes over
- 1:03:11Speaker 9: the middle, he plays on special teams.
- 1:03:13Speaker 8: Like that's a Patriot.
- 1:03:14Speaker 9: But instead they they took Nikhil Harry And so it's
- 1:03:19Speaker 9: why can you you know what traits work for you?
- 1:03:22Speaker 9: You know what players like Cole Strange? Since when does
- 1:03:25Speaker 9: like an athletic guard, Like, no, Mike on wen who
- 1:03:29Speaker 9: is a Patriots guard, But you took Mike on Win
- 1:03:31Speaker 9: who in the sixth round and he took Cole Strange
- 1:03:33Speaker 9: in the first round.
- 1:03:34Speaker 8: It just is it's all backwards.
- 1:03:36Speaker 11: Do you think twenty twenty two really was like a
- 1:03:38Speaker 11: schematic departure in terms of that's.
- 1:03:40Speaker 12: The only thing because large strong like they just they went.
- 1:03:43Speaker 8: They did so many I've heard a lot about and
- 1:03:46Speaker 8: I've seen some good breakdowns some people have had on Twitter.
- 1:03:49Speaker 8: I don't I don't believe it. I don't think that
- 1:03:52Speaker 8: they had a And you know, I talked a little
- 1:03:54Speaker 8: bit in the preseason to James Ferrence was one of
- 1:03:59Speaker 8: our players that we got on a preseason game production
- 1:04:04Speaker 8: meeting and I talked to him about the differences in
- 1:04:06Speaker 8: the offenses, you know, from Josh to last year to
- 1:04:11Speaker 8: Billy Oh, and He's like, it's it's really a lot
- 1:04:14Speaker 8: of a lot of the same stuff. It's now. This
- 1:04:17Speaker 8: is also a guy who, let's face it, is like
- 1:04:19Speaker 8: a coach James Ferrins.
- 1:04:21Speaker 9: He literally he coaches the offensive line, comes on the
- 1:04:23Speaker 9: road to coach the offensive line.
- 1:04:25Speaker 8: So I get it. He might, you know, for him
- 1:04:28Speaker 8: it might not be the same as it would be
- 1:04:30Speaker 8: for someone else. But he feels like the base system
- 1:04:34Speaker 8: didn't really change. Now. They certainly had plays that they accentuated.
- 1:04:38Speaker 8: We can talk a lot, and I know Evan can
- 1:04:39Speaker 8: talk for days about the differences in the way they
- 1:04:42Speaker 8: tried to run the ball and you know, the zones
- 1:04:45Speaker 8: in the come on on, my favorite phrase that you
- 1:04:49Speaker 8: used in the running game pin and polls, come on
- 1:04:53Speaker 8: didn't give me. I'm a simple man. I just need.
- 1:04:56Speaker 11: I just need what I would.
- 1:04:59Speaker 8: Have been a one.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: I love it.
- 1:05:00Speaker 9: I love a good cracks great, it's a great scheme.
- 1:05:05Speaker 8: But anyways, felt like it felt like there was a
- 1:05:10Speaker 8: little to all three, all three systems, even though they
- 1:05:14Speaker 8: probably have some yeah, different, It's it's a talking point
- 1:05:17Speaker 8: that comes.
- 1:05:17Speaker 12: Up a lot with you know, Pierre Pierre Strong.
- 1:05:20Speaker 8: So finding a way to contribute a little bit. So
- 1:05:23Speaker 8: he has forty one catching run the other.
- 1:05:25Speaker 9: Day, that's his only catch on the year.
- 1:05:27Speaker 8: No, I know, he hasn't been a huge part.
- 1:05:29Speaker 9: But the thing is about Pierre Strong and that trade
- 1:05:32Speaker 9: still bugs me. Like he was the only scat back
- 1:05:35Speaker 9: you had on the team. He's the only guy that
- 1:05:37Speaker 9: has that skill set, he's the only explosive guy in
- 1:05:41Speaker 9: space on the roster, and they it's just it's another
- 1:05:46Speaker 9: one of those things.
- 1:05:46Speaker 8: Like you traded a guy for someone who didn't ever
- 1:05:50Speaker 8: even play in an NFL, not once, Like Pierre Strong
- 1:05:54Speaker 8: played and played okay, and you can tell me, okay,
- 1:05:57Speaker 8: he doesn't really fit what we want to do. I
- 1:05:59Speaker 8: get it, Okay, great when we moved on, but like
- 1:06:04Speaker 8: you just gave him away and you know, we weren't
- 1:06:06Speaker 8: even supposed to entertain the idea of perhaps trading josh
- 1:06:11Speaker 8: Ucha for like a fifth round pick, Like we just
- 1:06:14Speaker 8: gave Pierre Strong away for nothing. I know, really, and
- 1:06:16Speaker 8: we couldn't even talk about the trade deadline.
- 1:06:19Speaker 12: It's crazy for how bad.
- 1:06:20Speaker 11: They needed tackles, and they made that trade, which they
- 1:06:22Speaker 11: gave up the most for. And then like, is Tyron
- 1:06:24Speaker 11: Whitley even going to be part of the team next year?
- 1:06:26Speaker 12: Like is that? Like, like you said, do we just
- 1:06:28Speaker 12: burn Pierre strong like we just said?
- 1:06:30Speaker 8: And again, I'm not I don't think that we'll be
- 1:06:32Speaker 8: sitting here in five years spread saying what Pierre strong Man,
- 1:06:37Speaker 8: we could have had him, we had him. I don't
- 1:06:40Speaker 8: think that that will happen. But it doesn't mean that
- 1:06:42Speaker 8: he was completely valueless. You traded him for no value, right.
- 1:06:46Speaker 11: Well, especially if you know Zekeeru Romander gets hurt here
- 1:06:50Speaker 11: in the next you know, a few weeks or something,
- 1:06:51Speaker 11: and you don't have any depth behind them at all.
- 1:06:53Speaker 11: You mean, you're just right to Kevin Harris and there's
- 1:06:55Speaker 11: somebody else on the practice squad. There's a running back,
- 1:06:59Speaker 11: Patrick Taylor.
- 1:07:00Speaker 8: I know there was a time Fred where I knew
- 1:07:03Speaker 8: all the practice squad.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Evan Evans left for practice. So when he gets back,
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: we'll get that update. In the meantime, let's go to
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: ide in Florida. What's up?
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: I Hey, I've been listening if my first season, listening
- 1:07:19Speaker 5: to you guys, and I've been a fan for about
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: fifteen years.
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: I wanted to say welcome.
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: I really wish I would have started listening earlier.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: Well, you can go back and listen to the archives.
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: I want to ask guys. Sadly Evan left, but I
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: was going to say, what team do you think would
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: be better if you put a prime Tom Brady on
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: this roster? Or if you put a Mac Jones on
- 1:07:41Speaker 5: like our sixteen, seventeen eighteen rosters where we went to
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: three consecutive Super Bowls. So I just wanted to give
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: your guys this.
- 1:07:48Speaker 8: That's a great question.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: The team would be better?
- 1:07:50Speaker 8: That's a yeah, that's a good interest.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 1:07:52Speaker 8: I that's a good introduction though. Brady, Yeah, come on,
- 1:07:56Speaker 8: don't you think that's a.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Brady on this team? You know everybody's healthy again? Yeah,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: Or I think Brady on this team?
- 1:08:03Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 1:08:03Speaker 8: Yeah, I do too. And you're lucky you picked that
- 1:08:05Speaker 8: way because how good you told me the defense was yesterday.
- 1:08:09Speaker 8: That was the right answer for you, Very very consistent.
- 1:08:12Speaker 8: Thank you were very consistent there. I would agree with you, guys,
- 1:08:14Speaker 8: And it.
- 1:08:15Speaker 11: Gives you nightmares trying to think a Mac trying to
- 1:08:17Speaker 11: hit Cooks downfield.
- 1:08:18Speaker 12: You'd be like, oh, they're not getting my guy the ball.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: They have to do a double pass somebody, somebody. Some
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: people say, you know Brady and Foxboro High.
- 1:08:25Speaker 11: Foxboro Highs got some big kids. I'm telling you I
- 1:08:27Speaker 11: saw him play a few weeks ago. They got a
- 1:08:28Speaker 11: three hundred pounders.
- 1:08:29Speaker 8: They moved their way all the way down to Division five.
- 1:08:33Speaker 8: Thankfully I don't have to worry about playing them because
- 1:08:35Speaker 8: then I decided to ban us from the post.
- 1:08:38Speaker 12: The division still work.
- 1:08:39Speaker 11: Division one is the best in division because like the biggest,
- 1:08:43Speaker 11: but it's not quality of competition like well no, but
- 1:08:46Speaker 11: generally those things correlated.
- 1:08:47Speaker 8: There are plenty of teams in Division five that could.
- 1:08:50Speaker 8: Foxborough is one of them. Yeah, you know, Handover is
- 1:08:54Speaker 8: another one they could. They could beat teams in higher divisions. Yeah,
- 1:08:59Speaker 8: f Wick Wick has beaten teams in higher divisions this year,
- 1:09:02Speaker 8: but they couldn't play with like Saint John's Prep or CM. Yeah,
- 1:09:05Speaker 8: those are just too big.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: And als in Wisconsin.
- 1:09:11Speaker 8: What's up?
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: Al?
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: Hey, Uh, So I've got a taken development that I
- 1:09:17Speaker 6: kind of wanted your thoughts.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: So I'm thinking, obviously we've been talking a lot about
- 1:09:26Speaker 6: what the future is going to be, and I think
- 1:09:30Speaker 6: most people here agree that. They start of like to
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: see the season played out and then Bill and the
- 1:09:36Speaker 6: team sort of part ways amicably and kind of move
- 1:09:40Speaker 6: onto the future. But then I'm seeing like the news
- 1:09:46Speaker 6: about the contract coming out, and then the other day
- 1:09:48Speaker 6: on the radio, Bill saying that, you know, he can't
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: possibly be coach n GM, and it feels like he's
- 1:09:55Speaker 6: sort of absolving himself of that. So I almost feel
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: like Bill setting himself up to be like, hey, they're
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: gonna have to fire me if I'm not here next year,
- 1:10:04Speaker 6: Like I'm not taking responsibility to this line.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: I don't take it like that.
- 1:10:10Speaker 8: I'm a thousand percent with l Okay. I do think
- 1:10:12Speaker 8: that he's there's something to it.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: You think he's absolving himself.
- 1:10:15Speaker 8: I think he's trying to say both, like he's sort
- 1:10:19Speaker 8: of separating himself from the personnel side. I don't think
- 1:10:22Speaker 8: that's working because I don't think anybody buys it. But
- 1:10:25Speaker 8: more importantly, I think he's trying to say, yeah, I'm
- 1:10:28Speaker 8: not just gonna make it easy for you to walk away.
- 1:10:30Speaker 8: I intend to keep coaching, and if you want another
- 1:10:33Speaker 8: coach here, you're gonna.
- 1:10:34Speaker 12: Have to fire him.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: Well, do you do you think he was also kind
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: of telling us that some of my duties have been
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: taken away.
- 1:10:41Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:10:42Speaker 12: I don't think so, No, I don't.
- 1:10:43Speaker 11: I think this is somewhat maybe just another one of
- 1:10:46Speaker 11: these situations where it feels like he's kind of I
- 1:10:49Speaker 11: feel it was almost with the we have to reset
- 1:10:51Speaker 11: this week that line. You know, he's saying these signs
- 1:10:53Speaker 11: that there's these like little sayings that the GM thing
- 1:10:56Speaker 11: like that. He doesn't really mean it that way, but
- 1:10:58Speaker 11: then he kind of paints himself into a corner and
- 1:11:00Speaker 11: then he doesn't he's not able to like really get
- 1:11:02Speaker 11: out of it and be like, look, I just meant
- 1:11:04Speaker 11: we have to reset, like we always do, start over
- 1:11:06Speaker 11: in the week, forget this game, refocus on next week.
- 1:11:08Speaker 11: We're not going to blow everything up tomorrow and try
- 1:11:10Speaker 11: to figure it out, you know, Like I think that's
- 1:11:11Speaker 11: what he really meant. But then everyone's like, oh my god,
- 1:11:13Speaker 11: they're going to reset everything, and then, you know, so
- 1:11:16Speaker 11: I just feel like he's getting himself into these situations
- 1:11:18Speaker 11: that he's not going to dig himself out of because
- 1:11:20Speaker 11: it would take him like having to explain something he said,
- 1:11:22Speaker 11: and so he just lets everybody kind of run with it.
- 1:11:24Speaker 8: Well because because the bottom line is he kind of
- 1:11:26Speaker 8: doesn't care what we think.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: Yeah, oh yeah, but did you catch the one thing
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: where he caught himself and he was talking about, you know,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: personnel and coaching, and he said, you know, when I
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: talked something along the line that when I talked to
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: him meaning mac grow and then he corrected himself the department,
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: you know, like so it was almost like he didn't
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: want people to think that mac growe has power and
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: I have power and we talk with each other. It
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: was more department to department, you know.
- 1:11:53Speaker 8: And I also think that he I've been around this
- 1:11:56Speaker 8: whole time of his I've never heard him say how
- 1:11:59Speaker 8: difficult it would be to handle both of those jobs.
- 1:12:01Speaker 8: At the same time, I think that was an effort
- 1:12:03Speaker 8: to say, you know, this isn't all on me. The
- 1:12:06Speaker 8: roster of God here is a collective not not just
- 1:12:08Speaker 8: not just my fault.
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: Well, but I also took it as hey, you know,
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: these guys do their job, you know, and and I
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: trust them to do their job, and when there's something
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: that they need to talk to me about, they talked
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: to me.
- 1:12:21Speaker 8: About the bottom line is he has final say on
- 1:12:23Speaker 8: the Yeah, and I don't think there's any like But
- 1:12:26Speaker 8: I don't think there was an ambiguity to that at all.
- 1:12:28Speaker 8: But I think he tried to make it sound that way.
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I said, I didn't take it that way, like
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: he was saying that no one Hill didn't have full control.
- 1:12:35Speaker 8: Full time coaching is a full time job.
- 1:12:37Speaker 11: Yeah, that's you know, that's I mean, I.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: Said, but this time of the year. But I think
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: this time of the year he's focused on getting ready
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: for Washington and they're focused on personnel, which that's their job,
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: and when they need to consult me they do. I
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: think I think it was pretty it was that simple.
- 1:12:58Speaker 8: But I think he's trying to distance from the talent.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't know. But if he's doing that, then
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: he's saying I'm not making the choices.
- 1:13:07Speaker 12: Right, so then let's make it official.
- 1:13:10Speaker 8: I think he's trying to make it vague like this
- 1:13:13Speaker 8: isn't you know, maybe it's not all on him, because
- 1:13:16Speaker 8: right now, wouldn't you say that the worm is turned
- 1:13:19Speaker 8: on Bill in the court of public opinion? Oh, it's
- 1:13:23Speaker 8: I don't know what the percentage is, but it at
- 1:13:25Speaker 8: least the more right last year. At this time, I
- 1:13:27Speaker 8: don't think you had more than twenty percent of the
- 1:13:29Speaker 8: people saying that it might be time to.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Make a change. I think it was more than that then.
- 1:13:32Speaker 8: I think it's a lot more than that now.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: I think the moment Brady won that Super Bowl, it changed.
- 1:13:37Speaker 8: Yeah. I don't think that people wanted to get rid
- 1:13:39Speaker 8: of Bill. I mean we still have passionate, defensive Bill.
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: Well.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: I think the people they were they were less emboldened,
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: so they were silent, but now they feel emboldened to
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: say it because I think they were always there.
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13:52Speaker 8: Well, I think there was always people that didn't like Bill,
- 1:13:56Speaker 8: but they recognized he was a great coach. Now the
- 1:13:58Speaker 8: people that don't like him also are wondering how great
- 1:14:00Speaker 8: was he ever, which you know that never happened, And
- 1:14:04Speaker 8: I think do you get some of that now? Again,
- 1:14:06Speaker 8: I don't know what the number is, but to Fred
- 1:14:09Speaker 8: Zeitgeist things zeitgeist, Yeahzeitgeist, it's definitely in the zeitgeist that
- 1:14:14Speaker 8: more people than not want him gone.
- 1:14:15Speaker 11: I mean twenty the decision last year with Patricia and
- 1:14:18Speaker 11: what they did the offense that might might have been
- 1:14:21Speaker 11: the thing that hurt, Like, I think twenty twenty. You know, Brady,
- 1:14:25Speaker 11: it goes to a stacked team. It's COVID give you
- 1:14:27Speaker 11: a chance to like you know, you know, I mean,
- 1:14:30Speaker 11: we all know how miserably was when Brady won that one,
- 1:14:32Speaker 11: but you know, I wasn't really And then it felt
- 1:14:35Speaker 11: like when they drafted Mac. I mean I remember standing
- 1:14:37Speaker 11: out on that field when the Mac came in, and
- 1:14:39Speaker 11: you know, felt like kind of COVID had passed and
- 1:14:41Speaker 11: we were all out on the field and it felt
- 1:14:42Speaker 11: like things are going back to normal.
- 1:14:43Speaker 8: We got the quarterback.
- 1:14:44Speaker 12: Or right here we had a great free agency. You know,
- 1:14:46Speaker 12: it felt like here we go.
- 1:14:47Speaker 8: Mike is right about that good start, good start to
- 1:14:50Speaker 8: the season, like, oh, you know, some tough ones, but man,
- 1:14:52Speaker 8: this came until we drafted them.
- 1:14:54Speaker 12: Yeah, and then you know, and then was right after
- 1:14:57Speaker 12: that Buffalo the Buffalo wind win, and then you went
- 1:15:00Speaker 12: on the break.
- 1:15:00Speaker 8: We got the best quarterback. We didn't have to try
- 1:15:03Speaker 8: it up chess checkers. We just sat there at fifteen
- 1:15:07Speaker 8: to let him come to us. We like, no one
- 1:15:09Speaker 8: wanted him until they drafted him. Then he became the
- 1:15:12Speaker 8: best quarterback in the draft. Now he's slipped back to
- 1:15:15Speaker 8: number two.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: Yeah, year he was even.
- 1:15:17Speaker 8: Though I don't think he is the numbers, not for
- 1:15:19Speaker 8: anybody that was watching, including you. Wow, No, I knew
- 1:15:22Speaker 8: that you by the way you saw, he had the
- 1:15:25Speaker 8: best that Trevor Lawrence could play.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: Oh, I knew that, But he had the technically speaking,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: he had the best year of any quarterback.
- 1:15:31Speaker 8: I would love, believe me, I would love to snarkily
- 1:15:34Speaker 8: make fun of you for saying things like that. You didn't.
- 1:15:37Speaker 8: You were always Trevor Lawrence.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: And I and I and I said it that year.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: Yes you did, of course, because I knew what Trevor
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: Lawrence was gonna be, Fred knows compared to what Mac
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: was going to be. So there's no doubt. But if
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: you wanted to make the case who had the best
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: year that season, it was Mac. Yeah he did, you know,
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: But I knew that Trevor was better.
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:15:58Speaker 11: But that's I mean, that's kind of been the line
- 1:16:00Speaker 11: three years, and then you know, the decision with Patricia
- 1:16:03Speaker 11: was just the doozy.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: Let's go to Eldred in North Carolina.
- 1:16:08Speaker 19: Hey, Aldred, Hey tell us, how y'all doing this?
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: All right?
- 1:16:11Speaker 12: Hello Eldred Deuce.
- 1:16:13Speaker 19: Yes, I'm gonna always jump on you get like who's
- 1:16:16Speaker 19: that to say, he's my quarterback jumping on Tom Brady
- 1:16:20Speaker 19: and he was to a stacked team. Yeah, he had
- 1:16:23Speaker 19: learned the team and the players, but he won, you know,
- 1:16:27Speaker 19: so that's just Brady. But I got one question for you.
- 1:16:31Speaker 19: I know y'all talking.
- 1:16:32Speaker 20: About the Personaire move.
- 1:16:35Speaker 19: Let's say we're going a five to five game run, right, yep,
- 1:16:38Speaker 19: and then we'll lose the rest of the game. Right.
- 1:16:41Speaker 19: Ain't the same guy making the choices next year with
- 1:16:44Speaker 19: next year draft? And how you feel about it?
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: So we end up seven and nine. Obviously Matt had
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: to have done something in order to be seven and nine.
- 1:16:54Speaker 8: I don't think so.
- 1:16:55Speaker 19: No, I don't think so.
- 1:16:56Speaker 8: If you go five and four with the rest of
- 1:16:58Speaker 8: their games, it doesn't necessarily mean you to back played
- 1:17:00Speaker 8: all that much.
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: Well, probably I could.
- 1:17:03Speaker 8: I mean, you could beat the Giants, you could beat
- 1:17:06Speaker 8: the You don't.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: About it, that's true.
- 1:17:09Speaker 12: You don't feel great about it, that's yeah.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: But the Colts are going to score points. They they've
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: scored points this.
- 1:17:14Speaker 8: Year, you know, Okay, but what if they don't that day?
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: Well no, but I'm just saying, looking ahead, who are
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: these teams? The Colts are team that has scored points.
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: They're not like the Jets and the Giants.
- 1:17:24Speaker 8: I agree, But maybe the defense wins those games. That's
- 1:17:26Speaker 8: my point. It's possible the defense beat the Jets who
- 1:17:31Speaker 8: built the defense bill and.
- 1:17:33Speaker 19: Again, right, if the guy make the same choices that
- 1:17:36Speaker 19: he didn't make it for the last fifteen years, I
- 1:17:38Speaker 19: miss it and get it. But off the gym, how
- 1:17:41Speaker 19: would you feel.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: I wouldn't be happy.
- 1:17:45Speaker 8: I mean, if they go seven and ten and run
- 1:17:47Speaker 8: it all back, I won't.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: Be happy me too.
- 1:17:51Speaker 8: I'll be upfront about that now. If something that I
- 1:17:54Speaker 8: don't envision happens and Matcus lights it up the second
- 1:17:56Speaker 8: half of the year and they score thirty points seven
- 1:18:00Speaker 8: out of the nine games, and they finished the season
- 1:18:03Speaker 8: red hot and go eight nine or something like that.
- 1:18:06Speaker 8: But they're scoring and all kinds of entertaining games, that's different.
- 1:18:10Speaker 8: But if they just sort of slog through and win
- 1:18:12Speaker 8: some and lose some, and it's the same offense that
- 1:18:15Speaker 8: we've seen, and it's the same defense that we've seen
- 1:18:17Speaker 8: beaten up on bad bad quarterbacks, I think they need
- 1:18:21Speaker 8: to change. Yeah, you know, they got they got a backup.
- 1:18:25Speaker 8: They have a young kid who's never really done anything.
- 1:18:27Speaker 8: In Howell. This week, they have a backup. The next
- 1:18:29Speaker 8: week they're gonna have a probably gonna have a backup
- 1:18:32Speaker 8: against the Giants. Like if they I absolutely can see
- 1:18:36Speaker 8: them winning some of these games. It's not gonna tell
- 1:18:38Speaker 8: me anything about any improvement.
- 1:18:41Speaker 11: I think it's just gonna tell you how close to
- 1:18:42Speaker 11: the bottom are they. You know, they're playing teams that
- 1:18:44Speaker 11: are Denver the Giants. I mean, these are you know,
- 1:18:47Speaker 11: bottom barrel teams right now. Only really what the Chiefs
- 1:18:50Speaker 11: and the Bills are the really good ones. So I
- 1:18:53Speaker 11: don't know, You're just I think you're gonna know exactly
- 1:18:54Speaker 11: where they stand at the end of the year.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: I think that Jets game is gonna be a tough game.
- 1:18:58Speaker 8: Whether I think if the Jades, if the Jets Jades,
- 1:19:01Speaker 8: if the Jets have a chance to make the playoffs,
- 1:19:03Speaker 8: I would say that Jets will win that game.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: What a game that Lucas is in on the line.
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: What's up, Lucas?
- 1:19:10Speaker 14: Hey, how's it going guys?
- 1:19:12Speaker 6: Okay, they called a couple of weeks ago.
- 1:19:13Speaker 21: About best of the best free agent pickups when we're
- 1:19:18Speaker 21: facing Steph and obviously we mentioned Judon, but I was
- 1:19:22Speaker 21: got me thinking about, like who's our best offensive uh
- 1:19:26Speaker 21: free agent?
- 1:19:27Speaker 19: Like with it?
- 1:19:28Speaker 21: I think the cheap answer is you know Edelman obviously,
- 1:19:32Speaker 21: but is it like Ammondola, like I don't know, like
- 1:19:35Speaker 21: and are we going to attract any real free agents
- 1:19:37Speaker 21: in the off season? And I know Paul's gonna say,
- 1:19:39Speaker 21: if you pay him, they'll come.
- 1:19:40Speaker 8: But oh yeah no, but I do agree with that.
- 1:19:43Speaker 8: But that's your question is still valid? Will they pay
- 1:19:45Speaker 8: them after they did that in twenty one and it
- 1:19:47Speaker 8: didn't work. That's a I mean, it's a good question.
- 1:19:50Speaker 21: That's offensive free agents, that we've signed.
- 1:19:53Speaker 8: The best free agent offensive player, best offensive player. They
- 1:19:57Speaker 8: signed a free agent, true free agent, so it doesn't
- 1:20:00Speaker 8: count Moss or Welker.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: Cooks Cook that was a trade trade.
- 1:20:05Speaker 8: They have a lot of trades, but free agent addition, offensively.
- 1:20:10Speaker 21: I don't know, it's got to be Amandola. And then.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: Welker was a restricted free agent, right, Welker was a trade?
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: Oh he was a trade too.
- 1:20:19Speaker 8: Yeah, he was at restricted free agent but they ended
- 1:20:21Speaker 8: up trading for him. Okay, yeah, yeah, they don't have
- 1:20:25Speaker 8: a lot for Dylan. That was a trade trade, all right.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: So like but you can see Okay, thanks Lucas you can.
- 1:20:33Speaker 8: Sort of see it's sort of deceiving.
- 1:20:35Speaker 11: It's deceiving, right, well, it's it's trying to.
- 1:20:38Speaker 8: It's like there's a lot of good players they've acquired,
- 1:20:40Speaker 8: as you know, from other organizations. Offensively, Yeah, just because
- 1:20:44Speaker 8: none of them what free agents, doesn't mean you know,
- 1:20:46Speaker 8: it's probably Amidola.
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: He's right, Patrick says, Deuce is one thousand percent correct.
- 1:20:53Speaker 8: I agree. I don't even know what we're talking about.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: It's not just build a GM, it's also Bill a coach.
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: The team hasn't been well coached in a few years.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: All the trend are going the wrong way. But most importantly,
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: I don't feel Bill as the same coach he used
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: to be. I'm going to keep saying it. Bill has
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: lost as one hundred mile per hour fastball and now
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: is just a good coach amongst other good coaches. Nothing
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: exceptional about the coaching on this It's.
- 1:21:14Speaker 8: Like Detroit Tiger's Frank Tanana.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: He's just got to learn how to throw a knuckleball.
- 1:21:18Speaker 8: Still paint in the corners at ninety two, We can
- 1:21:20Speaker 8: still coach. He's and I believe that I No one
- 1:21:24Speaker 8: will ever tell me that he's not a great coach. Now,
- 1:21:27Speaker 8: is he doing a great job right now?
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: Currently?
- 1:21:29Speaker 8: Probably not right, But I saw this guy do enough
- 1:21:33Speaker 8: as a coach that I I'm pretty comfortable saying that
- 1:21:36Speaker 8: I feel like he's a great coach.
- 1:21:37Speaker 11: Like I'm sure there are other I mean, it's hard
- 1:21:39Speaker 11: to think going off my at the top of my head,
- 1:21:41Speaker 11: but of you know, just great coaches that the team
- 1:21:43Speaker 11: kind of fell apart around them, and you know, I
- 1:21:45Speaker 11: know Bill's GM, so it's kind of a unique scenario,
- 1:21:47Speaker 11: but you know, they're still great coaches.
- 1:21:49Speaker 12: And then you know, just because this team kind.
- 1:21:51Speaker 11: Of fell apart, you lost it well able to put
- 1:21:53Speaker 11: it back together, and he could maybe go somewhere else
- 1:21:55Speaker 11: and still do it. But you know, I like, like
- 1:21:56Speaker 11: I per my earlier rant, you know, it's it's not
- 1:22:00Speaker 11: a well coach football team. And I can't tell you
- 1:22:02Speaker 11: that it has been. It's it's been frustrated.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: Parker from Manhattan sent an interesting email. We're talking about
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: the ineligible man downfield role.
- 1:22:12Speaker 8: So he went to he went, no, wonder why you
- 1:22:14Speaker 8: find well, I'm not going to.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: Read the whole thing, but he went to chat GBT
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: to get an explanation, and it was good. Not going
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: to read it all, but there's four points ALEVN level
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: playing field, safety, strategic integrity, and clarity for officials and
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: viewers in the description of what each of those mean,
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: which made sense, but then he went further. He also
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: used He also used chat GBT to analyze.
- 1:22:39Speaker 11: The hosts oh God, oh boy, Patriots unfiltered in this and.
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: So this is interesting, so chat gbt according to this

- 1:23:56Speaker 1: Eric Scalavino.
- 1:23:59Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean he does have one.
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: I had the thing, the key one that you know,
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: I raised an eyebrow at was accurate information? How many
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: times did he come off like he was and then
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: we would look it up and no, that's not it.
- 1:24:13Speaker 8: You know, you're talking about just life in general or whatever.
- 1:24:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: I thought we were just talking about the Patriots, So
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: I thought that was interesting.
- 1:24:22Speaker 8: So he doesn't have one for Evan.
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: He doesn't, so I wonder.
- 1:24:24Speaker 8: If that's supposed to be Evan.
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: Maybe, well we'll see, but maybe Parker, if you want
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: to do one specifically for Evan. Good.
- 1:24:32Speaker 8: Thanks for being kind to me. Obviously you inputed the rights.
- 1:24:35Speaker 12: To say what the question was.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: Well, he doesn't input anything.
- 1:24:37Speaker 12: He just says, tell me, tell me what who Paul
- 1:24:40Speaker 12: Parillo is?
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: I think, so give us an analysis. That was the
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: prompt because they go and.
- 1:24:45Speaker 8: Yeah, you have to prompt something. I mean, I don't know.
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: Maybe it goes because on the Apple, you know, people
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: give reviews of the plots, so maybe it's based on
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: reviews from listeners or maybe I don't know.
- 1:24:58Speaker 8: Like Reddit threads about that hard to believe based on
- 1:25:00Speaker 8: my email and tweets, my acts, I.
- 1:25:04Speaker 11: Was hoping they were going to be like Paul also
- 1:25:06Speaker 11: appears on ninety eight point five The Sports, Like you
- 1:25:08Speaker 11: know I needed, like, yeah, actual information on my show.
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: Packed it up?
- 1:25:11Speaker 12: Oh tease it.
- 1:25:12Speaker 11: Maybe you should tease the shows next week too.
- 1:25:14Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, you actually don't have Evan as a host.
- 1:25:18Speaker 10: I just typed in tell me about Patriots Unfiltered and
- 1:25:20Speaker 10: as hosted by Paul Parello, Eric Scalavino, Mike Desso, you've
- 1:25:24Speaker 10: have friend's name in here?
- 1:25:25Speaker 12: No, Megan, Wow, Well.
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: I do you have a plan of attack today for
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: your show?
- 1:25:35Speaker 12: I do not tangle.
- 1:25:37Speaker 8: I know the McDaniel's stuff is on their minds, which
- 1:25:39Speaker 8: I'm not overly interested in, and I kind of told
- 1:25:43Speaker 8: them so, but I still think it's going to be
- 1:25:44Speaker 8: coming up, and then it's just continue of like our
- 1:25:48Speaker 8: our conversation, just how do you fix this? How do
- 1:25:51Speaker 8: you fix this?
- 1:25:53Speaker 10: Uh?
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: Christopher the t I a n great discussion about acquiring
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: and re signing players. The big problem I see there
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: was simply no core of this team, no five to
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: ten players they can say, Okay, this is who we
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: are building around. I worry about resigning the Big three
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: of Doug or USh and A WHENU. I have flashbacks
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: to the Jones Collins in High Tower, where the only
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: ended up signing High Tower. Also, I don't think this
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: big three is as good or worth resigning. I think
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: like they'd be signed simply because they have the need. However,
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: who was pulling the trigger of this offseason will determine
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: that and PS good luck today Paul from four to
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: five on felgrin Maz. Hopefully he can get through his
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: weekly segment without Jimmy playing snorting bill drops and the
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: boys crackling like hyena hyenas.
- 1:26:38Speaker 8: Like last week was just like they're playing a bill
- 1:26:41Speaker 8: drop that was like over the top even for Bill
- 1:26:44Speaker 8: with the snorts. And now I was like, you guys
- 1:26:47Speaker 8: have nineteen other hours a week to do this, Why
- 1:26:50Speaker 8: do you have to do it in the one hour
- 1:26:51Speaker 8: a week that I spent with you? Just in case
- 1:26:54Speaker 8: someone's listening, and I like get ripped for like smirking
- 1:26:57Speaker 8: the laughing cause it's funny. I'm not denying that, but
- 1:27:02Speaker 8: you know, how about a little something.
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: For the effort, Gavin says, to your point on keeping
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: players that work for them, if they kept players that
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: work in their scheme, why not keep them?
- 1:27:13Speaker 8: If they have players that work in their scheme, why
- 1:27:15Speaker 8: not keep them.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: It would make it easier in future drafts by not
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: having to waste picks on replacements. This way, they can
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: focus more in upgrading than gap filling.
- 1:27:25Speaker 8: Right, And that's why I don't like some of the
- 1:27:27Speaker 8: draft picks, like even this year and the jury's still out,
- 1:27:32Speaker 8: but it's Gonzales, White, Mapoo, two of those guys. I mean,
- 1:27:37Speaker 8: Gonzales was a definite need, huge need. And I'm not
- 1:27:40Speaker 8: saying that because he's He looks like he's going to
- 1:27:42Speaker 8: be a good player based on the first three games.
- 1:27:44Speaker 8: But White and Mapoo just added layers or depth now
- 1:27:50Speaker 8: that you don't need to have. Now, my guess is,
- 1:27:54Speaker 8: you know they probably will. They'll probably let some of
- 1:27:57Speaker 8: these guys go and plug those guys in for a year,
- 1:28:00Speaker 8: and then those guys will go and the and the
- 1:28:02Speaker 8: vicious cycle continues. Instead of just identifying a half dozen
- 1:28:07Speaker 8: guys that you say, okay, these this this guy we
- 1:28:09Speaker 8: took four years ago is good enough. Let's just take him.
- 1:28:13Speaker 8: And then in this draft three years later, maybe we
- 1:28:16Speaker 8: can find a wide receiver. You know, maybe we don't
- 1:28:19Speaker 8: have to worry about finding some targets or you know,
- 1:28:23Speaker 8: seeing if he can get a distress asset like Devonte Parker,
- 1:28:26Speaker 8: who you know, was on Miami and it was okay
- 1:28:29Speaker 8: in Miami, but they didn't need him because they were
- 1:28:31Speaker 8: going with a different system that they felt like he
- 1:28:34Speaker 8: wasn't really suited for. So hey, perfect for us. We
- 1:28:37Speaker 8: can swoop in and get them, like you get what
- 1:28:41Speaker 8: you pay for.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: And guess what we've got, Evan.
- 1:28:46Speaker 19: As we turned, as we turned, as we.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: Turned, all right, Evan on the cool day out there,
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: temperature wise, how was it?
- 1:29:02Speaker 9: It is?
- 1:29:03Speaker 8: Chili?
- 1:29:04Speaker 9: I did not enjoy that piece of this anyways. Four
- 1:29:08Speaker 9: absences at Patriots. Probably we can get to the mood
- 1:29:10Speaker 9: in a second. Four appum wide receiver DeVante Parker, Trent Brown,
- 1:29:17Speaker 9: Calvin Anderson, and the worst one Pharaoh Brown not the
- 1:29:25Speaker 9: Pharaoh guy for Jawan. So Juwan Bentley was there but
- 1:29:31Speaker 9: not moving a lot. They were and Jawan Bentley, I
- 1:29:36Speaker 9: would say it was not participating.
- 1:29:38Speaker 8: In that, so you wouldn't be surprised if he is
- 1:29:40Speaker 8: a d n P.
- 1:29:41Speaker 9: Correct, But I do think it's good that he was
- 1:29:45Speaker 9: there aund because that means that you know, he's trying
- 1:29:48Speaker 9: to get.
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: Trent Brown is just.
- 1:29:52Speaker 9: See you Sunday.
- 1:29:52Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, even though he's the only real tackle they have.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: We don't want Sunday. So twenty four degrees on my
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: Apple Watch? What would what did it feel like?
- 1:30:03Speaker 8: Gotten it out again?
- 1:30:04Speaker 9: It was it was chilly, it was brisk, and that
- 1:30:09Speaker 9: you know, there's a lot of people that were definitely
- 1:30:13Speaker 9: moving around and you know, trying to keep the body,
- 1:30:17Speaker 9: the media to that cold people under I think it
- 1:30:22Speaker 9: was more. I think it was more the under dressing. Yeah,
- 1:30:25Speaker 9: we're all ticked up. No, I got my my my
- 1:30:27Speaker 9: fall jacket today and it's it's it's close to like
- 1:30:30Speaker 9: winter jacket temperature.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: Honestly. Yeah. Now on Sunday it's going to be I
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: think close to sixty. Right, it's going to be nice.
- 1:30:38Speaker 12: I was just looking at the Frankfurt weather. But yes,
- 1:30:40Speaker 12: I believe it's going to be nice this weekend.
- 1:30:42Speaker 11: Okay, I have fifty but but for those of us interested.
- 1:30:47Speaker 12: It looks like Frankfurt. It's going to be No, no,
- 1:30:49Speaker 12: them look like rain right now for when we're there.
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: So yeah, okay, what's.
- 1:30:52Speaker 8: The temperature there?
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: We'll get them when we get fifty in the fifty Yeah,
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: we'll talk about that. Yeah, well, I know, so given
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: the weather, given the temperature, what was the mood of
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: the players.
- 1:31:05Speaker 9: The players they see you still seem like players like
- 1:31:10Speaker 9: into it, you know, I don't know. I mean, I
- 1:31:12Speaker 9: keep on work, I keep on trying to I really seriously,
- 1:31:15Speaker 9: I keep trying to find some quit, you know, like
- 1:31:19Speaker 9: I keep looking for it, and I keep trying to
- 1:31:22Speaker 9: find if there's any sort of look of quit or
- 1:31:26Speaker 9: or you know, open around or whatever. And I didn't
- 1:31:29Speaker 9: see a whole lot of that.
- 1:31:30Speaker 8: So I was leaving here yesterday and one of the
- 1:31:34Speaker 8: gentlemen that works works for the stadium. You know, I
- 1:31:39Speaker 8: don't know if he was like a maintenance guy maybe
- 1:31:41Speaker 8: I'm not sure exactly what department, but he's doesn't pay
- 1:31:45Speaker 8: attention to some guy.
- 1:31:46Speaker 12: No, no, no, no, I didn't.
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: Say that he knew who you were.
- 1:31:51Speaker 8: Well, I mean he didn't say mister, he said Paul.
- 1:31:58Speaker 8: But we were talking and as we were walking out.
- 1:32:01Speaker 8: He's like, you know, he goes. I was just I
- 1:32:03Speaker 8: was just down around. Like with the players, there's a
- 1:32:05Speaker 8: bunch of guys like they're like laughing and joking around.
- 1:32:08Speaker 8: And I said, one of the things that really shocked
- 1:32:13Speaker 8: me when I first started working here one hundred years ago,
- 1:32:15Speaker 8: was you get on the plane after a loss, and
- 1:32:17Speaker 8: you'd have no idea if they want or lost, Like
- 1:32:21Speaker 8: the game's over. I know they all care, but the
- 1:32:26Speaker 8: game's over and it's time to move on. Like that's
- 1:32:29Speaker 8: the way they are. Like to Evan's point, like you're
- 1:32:31Speaker 8: looking for indications that people are upset, I think you'd
- 1:32:35Speaker 8: be hard pressed to find.
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: That you were on the planet oh seven, Oh that
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: was different.
- 1:32:40Speaker 8: Yeah, I actually was on the planet seven with a
- 1:32:43Speaker 8: lot of the players. And that's an example. Like I
- 1:32:46Speaker 8: remember like the postgame party.
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: Well yeah that was I didn't like that at all.
- 1:32:51Speaker 8: I remember like going like I felt like I was
- 1:32:53Speaker 8: going out to players like almost like I'm sorrying like
- 1:32:58Speaker 8: and I'm not going to name any names because I
- 1:32:59Speaker 8: don't want people to think that these guys didn't play
- 1:33:01Speaker 8: hard and think and didn't care. But they were like, yeah,
- 1:33:03Speaker 8: you know, what are.
- 1:33:04Speaker 12: You gonna do.
- 1:33:04Speaker 8: Yeah, what are you gonna do? You know, like they
- 1:33:06Speaker 8: they whooped us. They you know, they were better than
- 1:33:09Speaker 8: us today and you know we did when you don't
- 1:33:11Speaker 8: bring it, that can have we? You know, they were
- 1:33:13Speaker 8: more physical than us. I talked to like five or
- 1:33:15Speaker 8: six different guys after that game. You'd never know I
- 1:33:19Speaker 8: saw them, never know.
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: I saw the lineman walk into the hotel and tell
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: the hotel to turn the highlights off on the TV.
- 1:33:26Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm like, I'm like that. Like, maybe not as
- 1:33:29Speaker 9: much anymore, but when I was growing up, me too,
- 1:33:32Speaker 9: next day highlights, No chance.
- 1:33:35Speaker 8: I still haven't seen any of the Super Bowls that
- 1:33:37Speaker 8: they lost. Remember that we are killing the Patriots still,
- 1:33:40Speaker 8: Shannon Sharp, I was so mad after that game. And
- 1:33:43Speaker 8: I was an adult. I wasn't just I was so
- 1:33:47Speaker 8: mad after that.
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: Threw a sippy cup across the room. Yeah, Google got got.
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: Cody writes in Mike giving a SOPs my story tone
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: about how awful it is to root for a team
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: to lose. Who is insane? You don't have to do
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: that at all. If you're a fan, cheer for your team.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: Good god, what are we even talking about on this
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: show today?
- 1:34:07Speaker 19: Now?
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:34:08Speaker 8: Jeez, check a. I don't think chok a turn misunderstood
- 1:34:13Speaker 8: right there. Finger wag. It's nothing worse than the finger wag,
- 1:34:16Speaker 8: especially when it's wrong.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: Somebody, Sebastian from Clifton, New Jersey says shat GBT is
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: trained on older Internet information. I'm not one hundred percent certain,
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: but it probably still thinks Tom Brady is the quarterback
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: AnyWho quick prediction. I don't want this, but I believe
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: the Patriots will bring back BB and Mac for the
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: duration of max rookie contract, whatever that may be, and
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: BB will ride off into the sunset with his record
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: and the craft, save themselves the embarrassment of letting two
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: goats walk away from the organization and have success elsewhere.
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: Love the show and thank you for all you do.
- 1:34:52Speaker 11: That ambitious, Do you think that's a real thing about,
- 1:34:54Speaker 11: like not wanting to let someone else walk away?
- 1:34:56Speaker 12: Do you think they're worried about about that?
- 1:34:58Speaker 11: Like you know that he might go somewhere else in
- 1:35:00Speaker 11: and win somewhere else like.
- 1:35:01Speaker 8: Oh, and I don't know about win somewhere else. It's
- 1:35:03Speaker 8: just not having a nice I think being tied to
- 1:35:08Speaker 8: the end of parcels, the end of Brady and the
- 1:35:11Speaker 8: end of Belichick is something that the Craft family thinks about.
- 1:35:15Speaker 8: I don't know about the record. I'm just talking about,
- 1:35:17Speaker 8: you have arguably two of the greatest coaches, and you're tied.
- 1:35:22Speaker 8: You know, he actually could could add I mean, Carol's
- 1:35:26Speaker 8: going to be a Hall of Fame coach too, probably.
- 1:35:28Speaker 9: I just wonder, like with the whole So Bill's seventy
- 1:35:32Speaker 9: two and you and he talks about how he really
- 1:35:37Speaker 9: didn't feel like he had the Patriots up and running
- 1:35:39Speaker 9: into like three right, I think he says like three
- 1:35:41Speaker 9: years or something like that. So at seventy two he's
- 1:35:44Speaker 9: going to move to a different team and then get
- 1:35:48Speaker 9: the program up and running from scratch, and unless he
- 1:35:52Speaker 9: goes to the Chargers, but he's still in his mind.
- 1:35:55Speaker 9: I feel like he's still going to think I still
- 1:35:57Speaker 9: have to get my program.
- 1:35:59Speaker 8: I don't think he has any interest in going somewhere else.
- 1:36:01Speaker 8: It just seems like a lot. Yeah, but I think
- 1:36:04Speaker 8: he would if if he got fired. I think he would,
- 1:36:08Speaker 8: like I don't think he wants to, but I think
- 1:36:10Speaker 8: he would.
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: Matt says from Newport Beach that the free version of
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: chat GBT only goes up to twenty twenty one. So
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: that would explain why I know Evan somebody did a
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: chat GBT of who are all the hosts and what
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: are they like?
- 1:36:23Speaker 8: And uh, it's pretty good.
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: It didn't have you in there, but that would explain it. Yeah,
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: it goes only could.
- 1:36:28Speaker 12: You could ask him who clinices Evan Lazarre?
- 1:36:30Speaker 8: Is that's true?
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:36:32Speaker 8: Talk that talk, that talk. He almost did it again.
- 1:36:37Speaker 8: That was almost two s bams myself that time.
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: Umm. Yeah, so a lot of a lot of good emails.
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: Let's get to the phones. Matthews in New Mexico. What's up, Matthew?
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: What is he mowing the lawn? Matthew, Matthew, New Mexico.
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: Ime in New Mexico.
- 1:36:57Speaker 8: That sounds like when when Will was little and I
- 1:36:59Speaker 8: used to go and up the grass and he would
- 1:37:00Speaker 8: be behind me with the.
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: Bubble. Let's listen.
- 1:37:06Speaker 9: It sounds sounds sounds like Oppenheimer from New Mexico that
- 1:37:10Speaker 9: what do.
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: You think he's doing?
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: No, not yet.
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: What do you think Matt's doing? Oh no, that's line three.
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: That's not man, that's line three, that's not that's the.
- 1:37:20Speaker 8: We had no problem with line three when Hardy was
- 1:37:22Speaker 8: making Is that right?
- 1:37:24Speaker 12: Amazing.
- 1:37:25Speaker 10: Chap Et says, I'm sorry I couldn't find any specific
- 1:37:27Speaker 10: information about an individual named Evan Lazarre from Klinnis.
- 1:37:30Speaker 12: Thank you, I've even scrubbed off the internet.
- 1:37:33Speaker 9: Yes, never had Jerry Duty been scrubbed off the internet.
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: Jeff's in Texas, Jeff, Hey, Hi, guys.
- 1:37:42Speaker 20: Thank a question a comment about uh Fred. You were
- 1:37:47Speaker 20: talking about the operating budget, and of course, like you said,
- 1:37:51Speaker 20: nobody really knows exactly. But so my question is, like,
- 1:37:55Speaker 20: I know the Cowboys are like the richest team. Aren't
- 1:37:58Speaker 20: the Patriots like second or third behind them?
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: Value? But see that that's different.
- 1:38:06Speaker 20: Okay, Well, so my question is like, remember during the
- 1:38:09Speaker 20: uh DeAndre Hopkins sweepstake, and you know, we're all disappointed
- 1:38:15Speaker 20: because we didn't get him. But and then I believe
- 1:38:17Speaker 20: it was after that Craft came out and said I
- 1:38:20Speaker 20: don't remember the exact words, but he said something like
- 1:38:22Speaker 20: I've always given Bill everything he asked for.
- 1:38:25Speaker 6: Do you remember that?
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: Yeah? No, and he did everything he asked for dot
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: dot dot? Did he mean within the budget? Like we
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: don't know?
- 1:38:36Speaker 20: Well that yeah, that's a good question. And then and
- 1:38:39Speaker 20: then to further that point, I'm just wondering. Like two
- 1:38:42Speaker 20: other points to that is, like, one, do you think
- 1:38:45Speaker 20: that between Craft and Belichicks there was some fallout discussions about,
- 1:38:51Speaker 20: you know, overpaying for Jonas Smith and Agalre, you know,
- 1:38:57Speaker 20: and that they were kind of a bust.
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: As far as you know the budget, Well, I think
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: I think at that year, the Patriots had a lot
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: of cash, They had a lot of available money, and
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: I don't think that was necessarily over budget because remember,
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: a lot of teams because of COVID, they reduced the
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: salary cap and a lot of teams were in a
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: buying So the Patriots were like one of the few
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: buyers that season.
- 1:39:20Speaker 8: Yeah, but they still set a record for money spent
- 1:39:23Speaker 8: for the Patriots.
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: No, No, for the NFL history NFL for.
- 1:39:27Speaker 8: Free agent class.
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: But but it was it wasn't the same, No, it was.
- 1:39:33Speaker 8: I hear what you're saying.
- 1:39:33Speaker 9: But to Jeff's point, right, Jeff right, I think that
- 1:39:37Speaker 9: that he's right in asking that question. I do think
- 1:39:40Speaker 9: that there was obviously buyers remorse on some of the
- 1:39:43Speaker 9: players that twenty one free agency class, and I don't
- 1:39:47Speaker 9: think that they're necessarily inclined to just open up the
- 1:39:50Speaker 9: check book again for a hundred million dollars in salary caps.
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: No, but I think my point, my point is, and
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: that year, I think Robert Crafts was all in just
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: as much I think he was. I don't think I
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: think he was all in. But I don't think they
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: had to twist his arm to no.
- 1:40:05Speaker 8: I think he desperately wanted to do it. It was
- 1:40:07Speaker 8: coming off of Tom Brady winning the Super Bowl, right,
- 1:40:10Speaker 8: he was all in. Absolutely, That's why they paid all
- 1:40:13Speaker 8: that money. So I don't think they.
- 1:40:16Speaker 9: It's everybody, no, no, Yeah, but I'm just saying Paul
- 1:40:20Speaker 9: Paula just said, I'm inclined to think that they wouldn't
- 1:40:23Speaker 9: do that again because every single time we've spoken to
- 1:40:27Speaker 9: mister craft since he's mentioned about building through the draft
- 1:40:30Speaker 9: and yeah, you can't. You know, he said it at
- 1:40:32Speaker 9: the time that teams that spend like that in free
- 1:40:35Speaker 9: agency it doesn't work. Like it's not a long term plan.
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: See. I would hope though, if they, but if the didn't.
- 1:40:42Speaker 20: He didn't try to, you know, spend more to get
- 1:40:45Speaker 20: DeAndre Hopkins.
- 1:40:46Speaker 8: Yeah, I think that DeAndre Hopkins isn't the Patriots because
- 1:40:48Speaker 8: of Bill Belichick, not because of Robert Crafty. I honestly,
- 1:40:51Speaker 8: do I think you're telling me that he wouldn't have
- 1:40:54Speaker 8: wanted You know, you could give him eight million, but
- 1:40:57Speaker 8: not twelve million. That was the now. If you want
- 1:40:59Speaker 8: to tell me he was looking for a hundred million,
- 1:41:01Speaker 8: that's something Robert Crafts got to sign off on. But
- 1:41:04Speaker 8: I don't think the difference between a couple of million
- 1:41:06Speaker 8: for a short term deal was the deal breaker. To
- 1:41:10Speaker 8: your point, Fred, we don't know. I don't know. That's
- 1:41:14Speaker 8: just my feeling. My feeling is Bill didn't want to
- 1:41:16Speaker 8: go any higher for him because I think he felt
- 1:41:19Speaker 8: like the salary structure of the wide receiver class in
- 1:41:23Speaker 8: on this team right now would have been affected by
- 1:41:26Speaker 8: someone that you're bringing in from this and he doesn't
- 1:41:29Speaker 8: and he doesn't like to do that.
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: Despite what Robert craft said, I would hope that if
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: the opportunity arises again where they have, they can get
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: two or three guys in a particular free agent class,
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: you know, and reasonably.
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: I know this was the most ever spent, but it
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: was reasonable.
- 1:41:49Speaker 8: I think they'll add some plays.
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: I think they should.
- 1:41:52Speaker 8: I don't think a lot of those contracts were reasonable.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: They shouldn't. They shouldn't. The buyers were more aside, they shouldn't.
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: That shouldn't stop them from doing it again.
- 1:42:01Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, they're gonna have one hundred million dollars
- 1:42:03Speaker 9: in cap spits going into next year, so they're going.
- 1:42:05Speaker 8: To have that subject they're spend and seventy five million
- 1:42:07Speaker 8: of real money. I'll tell you that. I just that's
- 1:42:10Speaker 8: what they spent time.
- 1:42:11Speaker 9: I just wonder, and this is now and nowadays, and
- 1:42:15Speaker 9: maybe T Higgins will end up being an exception just
- 1:42:17Speaker 9: because of the situation. But now in order to acquire
- 1:42:20Speaker 9: like players like that, you have to trade for them,
- 1:42:22Speaker 9: Like teams aren't just letting those guys get to free
- 1:42:24Speaker 9: agency anymore, so maybe it won't be spent the exact
- 1:42:28Speaker 9: same way. I think the problem with the twenty one
- 1:42:32Speaker 9: experiment was they only shopped in free agency, so they
- 1:42:36Speaker 9: were working in a pool of players that were available
- 1:42:39Speaker 9: for nothing at the time. And know that when you
- 1:42:42Speaker 9: get to free agency, you're talking about a certain tier
- 1:42:46Speaker 9: of player, Like if you're you're not letting guys like
- 1:42:50Speaker 9: T Higgins most of the time, he doesn't hit free agency,
- 1:42:54Speaker 9: like AJ Brown didn't hit free agency. Tyreek Hill wasn't
- 1:42:57Speaker 9: a free agent they traded for him right, because the
- 1:43:00Speaker 9: teams want something.
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: Well, that's a fair point.
- 1:43:02Speaker 8: So if they're going to.
- 1:43:03Speaker 9: Spend like crazy again next offseason, I feel like it's
- 1:43:05Speaker 9: going to have to be done different.
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: The great ones don't get to free agency right right.
- 1:43:09Speaker 8: And just because they didn't have one of those sort
- 1:43:11Speaker 8: of blockbuster, you know, six year, one hundred and twenty
- 1:43:15Speaker 8: million dollar contracts, they had at least two, if not
- 1:43:19Speaker 8: three guys specifically answered the question why the Patriots because
- 1:43:23Speaker 8: they offered me the most money that can Yeah, yeah,
- 1:43:26Speaker 8: I think Gaggalore did two and I want to say Juda.
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: On che but I don't think it was a strong market.
- 1:43:31Speaker 8: It wasn't no, no, no, but they were the only one.
- 1:43:34Speaker 8: But that doesn't mean they got these guys cheating, No,
- 1:43:36Speaker 8: that's my point. I know, like they spent a lot
- 1:43:38Speaker 8: of money on money guys. It wasn't like ye, you know,
- 1:43:41Speaker 8: every guy that, like Jalen Mills, was a was a
- 1:43:44Speaker 8: to me an outrageous contract. It doesn't have to be
- 1:43:47Speaker 8: an eighty million dollar guarantee for it to be an overpay.
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: But but didn't it seem easy like they just signed
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: these guys easily, Like.
- 1:43:55Speaker 8: The one that really stood out was they signed John
- 1:43:57Speaker 8: hu Smith and then like four days later they signed
- 1:44:00Speaker 8: Hunter Henry day later and you're like, how are they
- 1:44:03Speaker 8: getting boltim? Remember we had to have They're paying more
- 1:44:06Speaker 8: money than anybody else was offering for these guys.
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: We had we had to have an emergency Patriots on
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: film because we had guys were coming in, Like, you know,
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: I can't believe it. It was crazy, But.
- 1:44:17Speaker 9: That's the like Hunter Henry, Jalen Mills, those are a
- 1:44:22Speaker 9: certain skill level sure, and like I just feel like
- 1:44:25Speaker 9: that was That's what you got to learn from that
- 1:44:28Speaker 9: free agency class. Is really the only guy that moved
- 1:44:30Speaker 9: the needle. Moved the needle was Judah Judah and he
- 1:44:33Speaker 9: was I think an exception because of things going on
- 1:44:36Speaker 9: in Baltimore that they he ended up being kind of
- 1:44:39Speaker 9: the odd man out in their roster. But that's that's
- 1:44:43Speaker 9: the exception of the rule. Like most of the time,
- 1:44:45Speaker 9: it's the other guy.
- 1:44:46Speaker 8: If you feel like maybe you don't, I don't putting
- 1:44:48Speaker 8: words in anyone's mouth, but if you feel like they
- 1:44:50Speaker 8: overpaid for some of those free agents, can you imagine
- 1:44:53Speaker 8: what they'd have to pay T Higgins?
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:44:55Speaker 8: Who everyone else is gonna want.
- 1:44:57Speaker 11: To write and I think that's like part of the
- 1:44:58Speaker 11: lesson though, is that don't don't try to carpet bomb,
- 1:45:01Speaker 11: like go specific and get you know, just get the
- 1:45:04Speaker 11: Jude On or you know what I mean and fill
- 1:45:05Speaker 11: those other holes in. It's just I think there's such
- 1:45:07Speaker 11: a talent void right now that that's like, we need studs.
- 1:45:10Speaker 11: We need guys who can play, not a bunch of
- 1:45:12Speaker 11: B players who are going to make us a solid
- 1:45:13Speaker 11: team in theres.
- 1:45:14Speaker 19: But it is.
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: I mean, remember when it happened, Paul, we sat on
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: this show and said, you know, okay, they signed all
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: these guys. The odds are they're not all going to
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: work out. It never works out.
- 1:45:24Speaker 3: Way, you know.
- 1:45:25Speaker 12: And I mean I mean, you know, at the time,
- 1:45:26Speaker 12: I liked what they did.
- 1:45:27Speaker 11: I liked that they were all young players kind of
- 1:45:29Speaker 11: coming off their first deals. It wasn't you know, old
- 1:45:31Speaker 11: guys that they were spending. I mean, it seemed like
- 1:45:32Speaker 11: they understood where they were as a team at that point.
- 1:45:35Speaker 11: And you know they I mean, I don't know where
- 1:45:37Speaker 11: they would have been without a lot of those contributions,
- 1:45:39Speaker 11: specifically you know, Judon and Henry at the top of
- 1:45:41Speaker 11: the list.
- 1:45:42Speaker 12: I'm sure they'd.
- 1:45:42Speaker 11: Probably put Godshaw on there too, But you know I wouldn't.
- 1:45:45Speaker 11: I don't know, I said they, but you know, we'll
- 1:45:48Speaker 11: see what they do they do this year. I just
- 1:45:50Speaker 11: think when you look at the free agents that are
- 1:45:51Speaker 11: out there, it's a lot of that kind of stuff.
- 1:45:53Speaker 11: You know, it's those like bee guys. There's nobody out there.
- 1:45:55Speaker 11: You're like, oh man, we just signed this guy and
- 1:45:57Speaker 11: this guy and this guy free agency, like we're.
- 1:45:59Speaker 12: Good start, you know. It's it's it's hard, it's hard
- 1:46:01Speaker 12: to even play like fantasy like that.
- 1:46:03Speaker 9: But that's why I would say, you know, back to
- 1:46:05Speaker 9: the point about keeping some of the guys that they
- 1:46:07Speaker 9: have coming up, it's like, those are those are B
- 1:46:10Speaker 9: B level guys. So if you keep the B level
- 1:46:13Speaker 9: guys that you have in house and then stack A
- 1:46:15Speaker 9: level guys on top of the B level guys, well
- 1:46:17Speaker 9: now we're talking right. So it's like, if you the
- 1:46:21Speaker 9: problem is is that they had so many holes in
- 1:46:24Speaker 9: twenty twenty one that they, like you said, they carpet
- 1:46:27Speaker 9: bombed it because they had so many holes on the
- 1:46:29Speaker 9: roster to fill. But if you retain some of the
- 1:46:32Speaker 9: younger guys that you actually like that are currently on
- 1:46:34Speaker 9: your team, well, then maybe you won't have as many
- 1:46:37Speaker 9: holes to plug. So if you add t Higgins on
- 1:46:39Speaker 9: top of what's already exists on this roster currently, like
- 1:46:44Speaker 9: you're not missing all these pieces. But if you don't
- 1:46:47Speaker 9: resign Mike Gonwennie, now you need you know, another starting lineman.
- 1:46:51Speaker 9: And if you don't resign Kyle Duggart, now you probably
- 1:46:53Speaker 9: need a safety. And if you don't resign Josh Uce
- 1:46:56Speaker 9: you probably are Jennings. Then you probably need edge guys.
- 1:46:58Speaker 9: And it's it just adds. It's like a whole different thing.
- 1:47:01Speaker 11: Do you guys worry at all that those three don't
- 1:47:03Speaker 11: want to sign back here like that they just would say,
- 1:47:05Speaker 11: you know what this is?
- 1:47:06Speaker 12: Because I mean, I think they've all had specific.
- 1:47:07Speaker 11: Situations where you could maybe say, you know, maybe and
- 1:47:10Speaker 11: when you doesn't love he wants to be a guard
- 1:47:11Speaker 11: and he doesn't really want to move around, and you know, dugger,
- 1:47:15Speaker 11: I'm not sure. He seems like a pretty good fit,
- 1:47:17Speaker 11: but maybe he's looking for a bigger role, you know,
- 1:47:19Speaker 11: Like I can I can see reasons why those guys
- 1:47:21Speaker 11: wouldn't necessarily be immediately slammed dunks to come back just
- 1:47:25Speaker 11: from their end too.
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think it was better or Chandler Jones.
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: Chandler when he was here, Yeah.
- 1:47:31Speaker 8: Chandler Jones was at least an every down player. And no,
- 1:47:34Speaker 8: I don't think he was a great run player either.
- 1:47:36Speaker 8: I don't want to be a fraud, but he played
- 1:47:38Speaker 8: every down.
- 1:47:38Speaker 11: Yeah, Chalder Jones more of an impact in the past.
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: Spie says, speaking of not rewatching losses, It's interesting that
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: one of the least often discussed great Brady games is
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: his extraordinary performance throwing for over five hundred yards against
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: the Eagles in the Super Bowl. I hate, hate, hate
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: that his incredible work that day is kind of buried
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: in my mind. Can you think of other awesome perform
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: ormances we avoid thinking about because they were part of
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: a losing effort, because we forget about that.
- 1:48:05Speaker 11: Right, that's a good game, though I don't think I've
- 1:48:08Speaker 11: really looked at that game at all.
- 1:48:10Speaker 8: That one was really annoying to That game is weird
- 1:48:12Speaker 8: for me as a sort of a Brady apologist. I
- 1:48:15Speaker 8: know the numbers, and I know what I don't think
- 1:48:18Speaker 8: he was as I don't think he was as good
- 1:48:19Speaker 8: as the numbers that day. I've seen him better, and
- 1:48:22Speaker 8: I know that sounds silly because he's so good and
- 1:48:24Speaker 8: he won so many games. I thought they had some
- 1:48:28Speaker 8: Not that Brady did anything wrong, because I don't think
- 1:48:31Speaker 8: he did, but I thought some of the production in
- 1:48:33Speaker 8: that day was like really kind of accidental.
- 1:48:37Speaker 12: I can't comment on I've forgotten it.
- 1:48:40Speaker 8: Like the yeah, I don't know what the right I
- 1:48:44Speaker 8: think that he had Likes he had like two punts
- 1:48:47Speaker 8: down the sideline to Aimondola, who was like uncovered and
- 1:48:51Speaker 8: like they were like running around and they just kind
- 1:48:53Speaker 8: of like lost them. Like I've seen Brady just surgically
- 1:48:57Speaker 8: tear people apart and lose fifty one.
- 1:49:00Speaker 11: Yeah, like San Francisco twenty twelve, I felt like they
- 1:49:03Speaker 11: were down, they came back, they lost, but it was
- 1:49:05Speaker 11: another one of those games that was almost a crazy comeback.
- 1:49:08Speaker 8: Like I even think like, well, statistically, you can't mean
- 1:49:12Speaker 8: five hundred and seventeen yards is what it is. It's
- 1:49:14Speaker 8: a record, you know, But I just don't think that
- 1:49:16Speaker 8: he was I've seen him better. Even like the six
- 1:49:20Speaker 8: AFC Championship game in Indy, I thought he was, you know,
- 1:49:23Speaker 8: considering that team that he just like put that team
- 1:49:26Speaker 8: on his back and beats beat the Chargers the week
- 1:49:29Speaker 8: before and then he comes back and was within you know,
- 1:49:32Speaker 8: a minute or so of beating the Colts. That was
- 1:49:35Speaker 8: an amazing perform Yes, I lost. I'm trying to hed
- 1:49:38Speaker 8: with losses.
- 1:49:39Speaker 9: The defensive coordinator was for the Eagles in that Super Bowl,
- 1:49:42Speaker 9: but it seemed like a lot of the yards in
- 1:49:44Speaker 9: that Super Bowl were schemed, like they just had guys
- 1:49:47Speaker 9: that were wide open, like just Chris Hogan invisibility cloak
- 1:49:52Speaker 9: type stuff like Yet over that game, and not to
- 1:49:55Speaker 9: take anything away from Brady.
- 1:49:57Speaker 8: It's not that he did anything wrong. Yeah, you guys
- 1:50:00Speaker 8: are so gadful because I just like I.
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: Still believe if Brady had won that game, he would
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: have retired.
- 1:50:06Speaker 8: Yeah, oh I don't, I do.
- 1:50:09Speaker 9: I think that's what Why didn't he retire after eighteen?
- 1:50:11Speaker 20: Then?
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: Well because because there are other factors. Want there are
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: other factors that you know, he wanted to prove things.
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: But I think I think, I think I think he
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: had that documentary all set to wave goodbye, go out
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: on top, and that scuttled his plans.
- 1:50:29Speaker 12: He must be glad.
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: I scuttled scuttled. Joel says, as always, thanks for everything
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: you do for US fans. This is gonna be real quick.
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: Seeing Paul calmly turn his back on the camera so
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: he can finish his food as one of the best
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: things about having video.
- 1:50:49Speaker 8: I was throwing it away the barrels right there. Got
- 1:50:52Speaker 8: last fight was Fred. It was Fred's food. That is good, Joel,
- 1:50:57Speaker 8: It's really good.
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: Let's see.
- 1:50:59Speaker 8: That's than I would do to somebody.
- 1:51:01Speaker 3: That's why I like it.
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: Nice job, Nice job, Balvin. What you all were explaining
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: is what an email is said. As well as Hardy,
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: the Patriots have no real dogs, just a bunch of felines.
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: Brady ramping up. Everyone else is dog mentality. Now it
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: just seems like guys are just happy to be there.
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: The only two players I see that our dogs are
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: to Vie and Deuces Guy Bentley. The Patriots aren't only
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: missing talent.
- 1:51:25Speaker 12: I think him and Pepper, so that only qualifies the
- 1:51:28Speaker 12: Patriots aren't only.
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: Missing the talent guys, but that wrong or right. They've
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: got each other's back and right now it's all individual
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: So I don't know. I don't know. I think Judan
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: is a guy that's supporting his teammates.
- 1:51:41Speaker 9: I don't yeah, I don't necessarily agree that it's all individual.
- 1:51:45Speaker 9: I just don't think that they have a lot of
- 1:51:47Speaker 9: talent on the roster. Like I, I don't go like,
- 1:51:51Speaker 9: I'm not a little bit that we get to be
- 1:51:53Speaker 9: around these guys. I don't like think that they are
- 1:51:55Speaker 9: all in it for themselves and like hate each other,
- 1:51:58Speaker 9: and I don't get that vibe. I just think that
- 1:52:00Speaker 9: they just don't have a lot of talent, especially on offense.
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: Yep, yep, yep, lots of emails. Let's say, Trevor, following
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: up on the rant about Bill's philosophy for team building,
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: I disagree that Bill doesn't want to build a high
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: powered offense. Since eighteen Bill has drafted Nikkeel, traded for Sanu,
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: signed the best tight ends available, signed, drafted taekwon High.
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: All of those moves except Hunter Henry have failed, which
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: is an evaluation problem, not a philosophy problem, but the philosophy.
- 1:52:33Speaker 8: It's all in the same, all in one.
- 1:52:36Speaker 9: Yeah. And I also would just say that all these
- 1:52:38Speaker 9: teams did all that and then kept doing it. Like
- 1:52:43Speaker 9: the Eagles drafted Jalen Rager in the first round and
- 1:52:46Speaker 9: he was a Nikhil Harry level bust. So what did
- 1:52:49Speaker 9: they do the next year? They drafted Davonte Smith in
- 1:52:51Speaker 9: the first round. They kept trying.
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: You know, it's like what tight ends Over the years,
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: they kept drafting tight ends until they got Gronk. You know,
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: they didn't stop. But I think Bill deserves a chance
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: to reset again. The only argument in my opinion for
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: replacing Bill is if you want to pair your new
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: young quarterback with a long term coach. That's kind of
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: my argument.
- 1:53:09Speaker 11: If we get a new one, wouldn't you just love
- 1:53:12Speaker 11: to hear Bill like candidly explain what's gone wrong here?
- 1:53:16Speaker 12: Like candidly just really what.
- 1:53:18Speaker 8: I'd I don't think you'd like any of the answers.
- 1:53:21Speaker 6: I really don't.
- 1:53:22Speaker 12: Well, I don't know why would That.
- 1:53:24Speaker 8: Guy's not as good? Like that guy's not good. That
- 1:53:26Speaker 8: guy doesn't do what he's supposed to do. That's what
- 1:53:28Speaker 8: I think.
- 1:53:29Speaker 12: But these are all your guys.
- 1:53:33Speaker 8: If they just executed, If they just executed, would be fine.
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: He's getting ready.
- 1:53:36Speaker 12: Why did you pick guys?
- 1:53:38Speaker 9: Because he's getting ready for Washington? Use it's not his job.
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: Jack wants to know. Is t Higgins that good? Or
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: is Jamar Chase always being doubled?
- 1:53:49Speaker 12: I think Higgins is pretty good.
- 1:53:51Speaker 9: This is probably not the day for this, but like
- 1:53:54Speaker 9: the notion that like every like good receiver gets doubled
- 1:53:57Speaker 9: on every single play just as whatever, Alex.
- 1:54:02Speaker 8: I mean, I would say they have a good offense.
- 1:54:03Speaker 8: They have a lot of options, and maybe he's not
- 1:54:05Speaker 8: quite as good if he was the only option. I mean,
- 1:54:08Speaker 8: I don't know, but I think Higgins is pretty good.
- 1:54:11Speaker 8: I also would just say, like, if T.
- 1:54:13Speaker 9: Higgins is your number one guy, then that makes Pop
- 1:54:16Speaker 9: Douglas his life easier. That makes Kendrick Bourne, if he's here,
- 1:54:19Speaker 9: life easier. The tight ends, so then the coverage just
- 1:54:22Speaker 9: becomes tilted to T. Higgins and then they had you know,
- 1:54:24Speaker 9: that makes it just the way that Jamar Chase tilts
- 1:54:27Speaker 9: the coverage in Cincinnati.
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: Alex and Warren. I don't have a chance to listen live,
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: so forgive me if you talk about this already. I
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: was wondering if you guys think that Mapu has a
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: chance to play some off the ball linebacker this week
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: and moving forward, if Bentley does miss some time, it
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: would be great to see him at his natural position
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: instead of asking him to play deep safety against the
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: most explosive receiver in the NFL. I just hope that
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: the blown coverage on Sunday doesn't lead him to the
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: bench and maybe leads to a shift in his usage.
- 1:54:55Speaker 11: I think it's possible because you've got you know, Mac
- 1:54:58Speaker 11: Wilson playing a little more of an edge role now too.
- 1:55:00Speaker 11: So I mean they if it's TVAI kind of taking
- 1:55:02Speaker 11: over of Bentley's role, you know, I could I could
- 1:55:04Speaker 11: see maybe Mapu getting and I'd love it.
- 1:55:06Speaker 8: But I don't know.
- 1:55:06Speaker 11: I just I've kind of tempered my expectations with him,
- 1:55:09Speaker 11: you know, unfortunately, like I just it's it's it's been
- 1:55:12Speaker 11: a time.
- 1:55:12Speaker 8: I just haven't seen much of him at linebacker. Yeah, Nope,
- 1:55:15Speaker 8: didn't you make a comment you say about Brian Belichick
- 1:55:18Speaker 8: saying he's been in this say was that yesterday? Yeah,
- 1:55:21Speaker 8: he's the day's all blame together. He's a safety much
- 1:55:24Speaker 8: to my sugarine. But I would like that emailer. I
- 1:55:27Speaker 8: would like to see him no, because I think that
- 1:55:31Speaker 8: was like an indication that, oh, maybe he is trying
- 1:55:33Speaker 8: to do some things that are a little different from
- 1:55:35Speaker 8: his philosophy. Bill being you know, we're going to have
- 1:55:38Speaker 8: a twitter and eighteen pound linebacker coming out of college,
- 1:55:41Speaker 8: and we know that's much smaller than we normally have,
- 1:55:44Speaker 8: but he's athletic and he might be able to do
- 1:55:45Speaker 8: some things that are different, but we haven't really seen
- 1:55:48Speaker 8: Hi given the opportunity.
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: I kicked myself for not bringing this up earlier. But
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: what did you think of Bill O'Brien's comments that he's
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: not involved in like the game day you know, actrivation.
- 1:55:57Speaker 9: Yeah, not even that he said he wasn't involved in
- 1:56:00Speaker 9: the trade deadline either.
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:56:02Speaker 8: I mean, like, so he's the offensive coordinator and Malie
- 1:56:06Speaker 8: Cunningham is going to be part of the offensive game
- 1:56:08Speaker 8: plan that week, and he didn't have any saying it right.
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: That bugs me.
- 1:56:13Speaker 8: I want to make that he said it that it.
- 1:56:15Speaker 3: That it is.
- 1:56:15Speaker 9: Do you think that maybe I know we're running out
- 1:56:17Speaker 9: of time, but do you think that he maybe said
- 1:56:19Speaker 9: that to remove himself from the mess.
- 1:56:21Speaker 8: Maybe he's maybe he's.
- 1:56:24Speaker 9: Yeah, but if that's not true, I don't know. That's
- 1:56:28Speaker 9: just kind of the the trade because he got asked
- 1:56:30Speaker 9: the same question. But about the trade deadline, we know
- 1:56:32Speaker 9: that you didn't make. You know, that was a Matt
- 1:56:33Speaker 9: Bill decision about Cunningham. What are you involved in all
- 1:56:36Speaker 9: of the trade And I'm like, if Bill O'Brien, they
- 1:56:40Speaker 9: should be going to Bill O'Brien and saying, hey, what
- 1:56:41Speaker 9: do you need?
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: Like what what?
- 1:56:42Speaker 9: What is it that's missing from this offense?
- 1:56:44Speaker 8: What do you feel that you need?
- 1:56:46Speaker 9: And he could give them an answer. If they're not
- 1:56:48Speaker 9: doing that, then that's that's malpractice. I mean, every you
- 1:56:51Speaker 9: gotta be doing that, and he just kind of I
- 1:56:54Speaker 9: have to wonder if maybe he's like, Hey, this is
- 1:56:56Speaker 9: the personnel side of it.
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: Ain't me like everybody's like, but to me, like who
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: plays on game day on offense is part of his job.
- 1:57:04Speaker 12: There should be a meeting about it.
- 1:57:06Speaker 8: So what are we doing this week? What do you
- 1:57:07Speaker 8: think is it on the calendar?
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: Hey, hey, can hey Bill, Bill O'Brien, we're gonna be
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: not playing Matt today.
- 1:57:14Speaker 12: Okay, well just tell me who's playing it.
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: I just don't buy that. But coming up is John
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: Rook with the playbook. But and we'll be back tomorrow.
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: But I just want to mention that next week is Germany.
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: So I just want to for people's planning purposes, we
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: will not have a show on Tuesday and Wednesday because
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: we're going to be scrambling. Lots of us will be traveling.
- 1:57:36Speaker 8: Until you we will receive total but we will.
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: Have shows our normal time on Thursday, live from Germany
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: and also on Friday special Friday live from Germany. So
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: next week shows Thursday and Friday twelve to two East
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: Coast time, Eastern y same time as It'll be six
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: in the evening where we are, but for everybody else
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: that's in the East Coast it'll be noon.
- 1:58:03Speaker 9: And Catch twenty two same thing as well.
- 1:58:05Speaker 8: Yeah, so a t am yeah.
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: The same time. So just no shows Tuesday Wednesday, but
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: there will be shows Thursday Friday.
- 1:58:13Speaker 12: They'll probably be pretty fun too.
- 1:58:15Speaker 8: And yeah, we're coming to be like, why is that
- 1:58:18Speaker 8: du bars?
- 1:58:20Speaker 12: Since the bar is that?
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: Can we Yeah?
- 1:58:25Speaker 11: This is he?
- 1:58:25Speaker 12: I didn't say I didn't see anything true?
- 1:58:28Speaker 8: What because fans have always wanted to see what that's
- 1:58:30Speaker 8: like when.
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: Paul, I don't know about that.
- 1:58:34Speaker 8: No, we can't do that.
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: Afterwards.
- 1:58:36Speaker 8: We're on the internet.
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: You can do it after.
- 1:58:38Speaker 12: It's an Internet show.
- 1:58:38Speaker 8: Come on, all right, I think that's let's say, a
