- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up on this week's episode of Hip Hop Now podcast,
- 0:04Speaker 1: Push Your Tea take shots at Travis Scott in a
- 0:07Speaker 1: new clips single. Lil Wayne wrote most of Drake's lyrics.
- 0:12Speaker 1: According to Wayne's Sun and my thoughts on Davis and
- 0:18Speaker 1: Young Chris's new project Fine Dining. I'm not even gonna
- 0:24Speaker 1: spoil it, y'all, but I'm gonna spoil it. I like
- 0:27Speaker 1: this one. Let's do it. Welcome to jip Hop Now
- 0:33Speaker 1: podcasts should do from the future. You know what to do.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Your ass out so disrespectful leg like hip hop is
- 0:47Speaker 1: say to today. Let's get right into the business. What up, y'all?
- 0:53Speaker 1: I am your host Vegas and this is hip Hop
- 0:55Speaker 1: Now podcasting podcast specifically designed to keep you caught up
- 0:59Speaker 1: on all things hip hop, music and culture that happened
- 1:02Speaker 1: throughout the week. Big shout out to the subscribers on
- 1:06Speaker 1: audio phone, whether you listen on Apple Podcasts or Spotify
- 1:10Speaker 1: or whatever the podcast is everywhere. Shout out to you
- 1:13Speaker 1: for pushing that subscribe button, because that subscribe button means
- 1:17Speaker 1: you like it, you may love it, you want to
- 1:20Speaker 1: see and hear more of it. Big shout out to
- 1:23Speaker 1: those who are watching right here on YouTube. And if
- 1:25Speaker 1: you listen to audio and you're like, oh, there's a
- 1:27Speaker 1: video version, Yes there is, Come on along, come join us.
- 1:32Speaker 1: The link is in the description of this episode. Man,
- 1:37Speaker 1: it's first of all, happy belated June tenth. You know
- 1:41Speaker 1: that happened. If you're from the future, get your ass
- 1:44Speaker 1: out of here and you already know the vibes. Okay. Also,
- 1:51Speaker 1: this channel and the audio podcast in a lot of
- 1:55Speaker 1: ways when it comes to content creation. There are a
- 1:59Speaker 1: number of things that I have planned to do, but
- 2:01Speaker 1: I want to make sure they're worthwhile. Right, Some people
- 2:05Speaker 1: just on YouTube specifically, just constantly pump out content because
- 2:10Speaker 1: that's kind of what you have to do on YouTube
- 2:12Speaker 1: to stay engaged, to stay active. Now, I do do
- 2:15Speaker 1: that in some regards, right. I see a lot of
- 2:18Speaker 1: things on the Internet and I share them via shorts.
- 2:22Speaker 1: So a lot of people have come to this channel
- 2:25Speaker 1: via the shorts I post, and I'd like to say this,
- 2:29Speaker 1: that's cool because I'm doing what they're doing. I'm browsing,
- 2:33Speaker 1: I'm seeing things, I'm engaging, and it's dope to see
- 2:36Speaker 1: that people wanted to subscribe to this channel because I'm
- 2:40Speaker 1: basically curating hip hop shorts right from different creators, but
- 2:46Speaker 1: the heads are the ones that will watch and listen
- 2:50Speaker 1: to the podcast because the podcast is a deeper experience.
- 2:55Speaker 1: So if your experience with all things hip hop, news andstalgia,
- 3:00Speaker 1: no matter what it is, but you like it in
- 3:04Speaker 1: short form, just follow. Because of the shorts, I'm good
- 3:10Speaker 1: with that. I'm good with people arguing as long as
- 3:12Speaker 1: you keep it clean and it's not racist and all that.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I'm good with people celebrating things in the comments section
- 3:19Speaker 1: of shorts. Trust me, I've had shorts that did crazy
- 3:23Speaker 1: numbers as a result of not only people who love
- 3:28Speaker 1: hip hop coming together, but also it feeds the algorithm
- 3:33Speaker 1: right organically, So it's not bods, it's the people. Some
- 3:39Speaker 1: people are surprised by that, but I am not, and
- 3:41Speaker 1: I'm not trying to brag, but I'm just telling me
- 3:45Speaker 1: what it is. I graduated from Morgan State University with
- 3:48Speaker 1: a college degree and communications, primarily media, meaning television and radio.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I've worked for over twenty five years in radio. But
- 3:59Speaker 1: the difference is is I've worked specifically on the content side,
- 4:03Speaker 1: which is directly connected to audience, right, so creating for audience,
- 4:12Speaker 1: analyzing audience, all that good stuff. So that's exactly what
- 4:16Speaker 1: I'm doing here, but I'm doing it from a more
- 4:18Speaker 1: organic situation. Right. I like what I like. I know
- 4:22Speaker 1: there's a lot of people who like a lot of
- 4:24Speaker 1: things I like. That's what I present to you. So
- 4:27Speaker 1: when you go to this channel beyond the shorts and
- 4:30Speaker 1: you say, well, what's on here, Well, there's this weekly
- 4:33Speaker 1: news podcast called hip Hop Now Podcast. Right. If that's
- 4:36Speaker 1: not your bag, Well I have a podcast with the
- 4:40Speaker 1: homie Tony from Into the Dome Podcast, who's also on YouTube,
- 4:45Speaker 1: that's all about the history of hip hop, nostalgia, moments,
- 4:50Speaker 1: artists record labels, we break it down. There's over seventy
- 4:55Speaker 1: plus episodes of just that. And I start doing reactions
- 5:01Speaker 1: recently because people like reactions, and I like reacting because
- 5:04Speaker 1: it's just you seeing me do something that I do
- 5:07Speaker 1: anyway that you probably do, which is you know, browse
- 5:10Speaker 1: YouTube and say, oh, Drake started the singing and rapping phase. Oh,
- 5:17Speaker 1: I need to press play on that because they lie
- 5:19Speaker 1: in right, So you go in and you watch and
- 5:22Speaker 1: you have a reaction. The difference is is you just
- 5:24Speaker 1: get to see my reaction. And if you see a
- 5:26Speaker 1: video like that, please send it to me. I will
- 5:28Speaker 1: do a reaction to it, Okay, I will, But all
- 5:33Speaker 1: all of the content, all the things I'm creating for
- 5:36Speaker 1: this channel and for this audio podcast, it's all about
- 5:40Speaker 1: building conversation. I know there's a lot of built in
- 5:44Speaker 1: answers to a lot of things on the internet because
- 5:47Speaker 1: your face with a lot of it being fake and
- 5:51Speaker 1: not true. So sure, the new phrase is they did
- 5:57Speaker 1: it for engagement, because that's true for a lot of people.
- 5:59Speaker 1: They will do and say things literally for engagement so
- 6:03Speaker 1: they could monetize, or so they could just gain a
- 6:07Speaker 1: huge following and then pretend to be celebrities in real life.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Nobody really knows you, right, they follow your Twitter account,
- 6:14Speaker 1: they follow your Instagram account, But you can still go
- 6:18Speaker 1: to the store. You're notited celebrity, you know what I'm saying.
- 6:23Speaker 1: You can still go to the store. Even when I
- 6:24Speaker 1: had my little radio station, and trust me, I was
- 6:27Speaker 1: broadcasting to way more listeners to the station than followers
- 6:32Speaker 1: I may have today, But I could still walk outside
- 6:36Speaker 1: because nobody even knew it was me like that, you
- 6:39Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Like even when they could see
- 6:41Speaker 1: my profile on the website, you wouldn't be able to
- 6:45Speaker 1: spot me in public. The only time I've been spotted
- 6:48Speaker 1: in public was when I was hosting a hip hop
- 6:51Speaker 1: show way back in the day and I was at
- 6:55Speaker 1: a festival in Baltimore and I was at the radio
- 6:58Speaker 1: station's booth and I was taught talking to the interns
- 7:01Speaker 1: and a dude who came to the booth, who obviously
- 7:04Speaker 1: was a fan at stationed. He was looking at me
- 7:08Speaker 1: and you know, I'm from the hood, and you can
- 7:11Speaker 1: place that wherever you want to in this world, but
- 7:15Speaker 1: specifically Brooklyn, New York. You heard, But I'm thinking, what
- 7:21Speaker 1: is this? What we about to do? Like, what's about
- 7:24Speaker 1: to happen here? Why homie looking? And he was like,
- 7:29Speaker 1: you're Vegas. I'm like, yeah, right, you see how my
- 7:34Speaker 1: eyes got yeah, And he was like, yo, you funny.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I listened to Strictly Hip Hop, and that was the
- 7:42Speaker 1: first time I was like, oh yeah. I guess somebody
- 7:45Speaker 1: who listens to that show, if they heard me but
- 7:49Speaker 1: they don't see me all the time, they would be like,
- 7:52Speaker 1: is that him? It sounds exactly like him. So again,
- 7:58Speaker 1: here at hip Hop Now Podcast, we don't need to
- 8:02Speaker 1: cap we don't need to do things for lights and follows.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Do we want them. Of course we want them, but
- 8:09Speaker 1: that's more growing a community of people who love the
- 8:13Speaker 1: things that we love. You get it now. Big shout
- 8:19Speaker 1: out to Hip Hop DX dot com Double Excel. Even
- 8:23Speaker 1: though y'all did something crazy on Juneteenth, I wasn't really
- 8:26Speaker 1: feeling in a couple of places where I'm getting these
- 8:29Speaker 1: stories from. Let's get right into the business. Oh boy,
- 8:34Speaker 1: So push your T and his brother Malice or No Malice.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I think he's still going by No Malice dropped the
- 8:42Speaker 1: new single that will be on their forthcoming album Like
- 8:48Speaker 1: God Sort them Out. The single is called so Be
- 8:52Speaker 1: It and it's fire bars. You know the beat is
- 9:01Speaker 1: is I mean, it's just it's everything anybody who loves
- 9:05Speaker 1: the clips expects to hear. But I think it's even
- 9:10Speaker 1: better than that, right, I think it's better than that
- 9:13Speaker 1: Death Jam dropped the ball, y'all. I'm sorry. So this
- 9:17Speaker 1: new single drops with a video and I watch it
- 9:22Speaker 1: like everybody else. And apparently there's a portion in the
- 9:26Speaker 1: song where pushr T is taking shots at Travis Scott,
- 9:31Speaker 1: and from what I gathered not only from the bars,
- 9:36Speaker 1: but also him talking about it in an interview, like
- 9:41Speaker 1: I think, like the same day that the song dropped.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Their issue stems from a situation that happened that pusha
- 9:53Speaker 1: T wasn't really feeling, and also he wasn't feeling the
- 9:57Speaker 1: fact that they had some sort of relationship that went
- 10:02Speaker 1: sour over this situation, right, Like push your T explains
- 10:08Speaker 1: it like he was being pure even though he didn't
- 10:11Speaker 1: like certain things. Well, I'm saying all that to say
- 10:16Speaker 1: is when I tell you what he said in this
- 10:19Speaker 1: most recent interview, it says a lot more, not only
- 10:22Speaker 1: about the relationship but how he feels. And the end
- 10:28Speaker 1: result is like, damn, does Travis Scott need to answer this?
- 10:31Speaker 1: But like a disc record or a verse. So let
- 10:36Speaker 1: me just let y'all know the situation before we get there, right,
- 10:39Speaker 1: So shout out to Nick who dug up this information
- 10:42Speaker 1: before I did the show, so I ain't have to
- 10:44Speaker 1: do the research. Okay, But the situation is Push your
- 10:49Speaker 1: TA in malice or no malice or in a studio
- 10:53Speaker 1: session with Pharrell, Travis Scott came into the studio session
- 10:58Speaker 1: kind of interrupt it because he wanted to play some
- 11:01Speaker 1: songs for them. They let that happen, but he was
- 11:05Speaker 1: also filming and he also was acting weird. He had
- 11:08Speaker 1: a lot of weird energy. You know, he like he
- 11:10Speaker 1: was up to something, right, But obviously if you're cool
- 11:14Speaker 1: with somebody, you're not really thinking about it that much.
- 11:17Speaker 1: And he let them hear songs off an album, but
- 11:20Speaker 1: he didn't let them hear a particular song, which they
- 11:23Speaker 1: came to find out once it was released that the
- 11:26Speaker 1: songs was taking shots at Forell, right, and this whole
- 11:31Speaker 1: thing with the chain and all that being melted down
- 11:36Speaker 1: after it was But you know that's what you heard
- 11:38Speaker 1: with Drake and all that and the Kendrick battle, So
- 11:41Speaker 1: that broke pushed t the wrong way. So that's why
- 11:44Speaker 1: he took a couple of shots at Travis in this
- 11:48Speaker 1: new record, So be it. But then he appeared and
- 11:51Speaker 1: this is on Hip Hop dx dot com. In an
- 11:54Speaker 1: interview with Ebro on Apple Music, one half of the
- 11:57Speaker 1: clips further explain how his issues were with Scott stemmed
- 12:01Speaker 1: from when he interrupted a recording session with Pharrell and Paris.
- 12:06Speaker 1: This is what Push is saying, and I quote, I
- 12:09Speaker 1: just thought it was disrespectful. We don't even want you here,
- 12:11Speaker 1: to be honest, We're not here to hobnob with any rappers.
- 12:15Speaker 1: And I personally don't like rappers who don't rap. I
- 12:19Speaker 1: don't want to hear that. I don't want it now.
- 12:23Speaker 1: When he said that, Malice started laughing right like they've
- 12:26Speaker 1: been talking about it. He also said, so to come
- 12:33Speaker 1: and interrupt the session and do something backhanded and not
- 12:37Speaker 1: for nothing, but I done had to put my arm
- 12:40Speaker 1: around you before. But to go along with the title,
- 12:44Speaker 1: so be it, which is the new single. He does
- 12:47Speaker 1: this numerous times. He'll do it with his mentor yay.
- 12:54Speaker 1: So this sounds like there's another part, he said, And
- 12:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna try to play the all the for y'all,
- 13:01Speaker 1: but this that part is crazy, like I don't associate
- 13:07Speaker 1: with rappers who don't rap. And we'll we'll fill in
- 13:11Speaker 1: the blinks for those who don't understand. But let's see
- 13:13Speaker 1: if we can get this to play. I just thought
- 13:15Speaker 1: it was disrespectful.
- 13:17Speaker 2: I'm like, man, you know, we don't even want you
- 13:19Speaker 2: here to be honest, like when I hit a hog
- 13:21Speaker 2: now with any rappers, And I personally don't like rappers
- 13:25Speaker 2: who don't rap, right, like, I don't want to hear that,
- 13:29Speaker 2: like I don't want it, So, you know, to come
- 13:32Speaker 2: interrupted session to do something backhanded in backbiting and not
- 13:38Speaker 2: for nothing, like man, I didn't have to put my.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Arm around you before. You know what I'm saying.
- 13:43Speaker 2: But you know, to go along with the title, so
- 13:47Speaker 2: be it. He does this numerous times. You know what
- 13:50Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 13:50Speaker 1: He'll do it with his mentor right right, yay, you
- 13:53Speaker 1: know what I'm saying.
- 13:54Speaker 2: You know he was even instrumental in the in this
- 13:58Speaker 2: hole in the whole beef.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Now to like that verse, you know what I'm saying,
- 14:02Speaker 1: egging that on.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I don't want nobody who don't wrap the egg nothing
- 14:05Speaker 2: on it.
- 14:06Speaker 1: You don't rap, stay out of rappers business.
- 14:09Speaker 2: You specifically stay out of rappers business.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Don't do that. That's crazy to tell another man who
- 14:17Speaker 1: has seen known as a rap artist that you're not
- 14:21Speaker 1: a rapper, stay out of rappers business. It's crazy. But
- 14:29Speaker 1: for those who are like, what do you mean by
- 14:31Speaker 1: that he raps, he's a rapper, what he means is
- 14:35Speaker 1: you don't have bars, You make songs, and what you're
- 14:39Speaker 1: doing technically is considered to be rap. But you're not
- 14:44Speaker 1: someone who creatively is interested in technique and elevating your
- 14:51Speaker 1: skill level at any point in any record. So to him,
- 14:56Speaker 1: it's like you don't even do this on a level
- 15:00Speaker 1: that we do. You don't. This is not something you do.
- 15:03Speaker 1: It's not something you want to do. That's not something
- 15:05Speaker 1: you've ever done. So stay out of our business when
- 15:10Speaker 1: we are going at each other as rappers. As he say,
- 15:14Speaker 1: he was referring to the Drake and Kendrick beef, saying
- 15:18Speaker 1: that he's egging on this beef between these two, right,
- 15:23Speaker 1: And I think in a lot of ways that's an
- 15:25Speaker 1: old that's an admission to Drake being a rapper, or
- 15:31Speaker 1: maybe just talking about Kendricks the rapper going against that
- 15:34Speaker 1: non rapper, which could be also what he's saying, but
- 15:39Speaker 1: essentially that's what he's saying, like, Yo, you don't. You
- 15:43Speaker 1: don't do this on this level, So stop playing in
- 15:46Speaker 1: this section of the yard. Go over there, right, And
- 15:50Speaker 1: he said specifically you that. To me, that's interesting also
- 15:55Speaker 1: because it's like, don't respond whether you do it, and
- 16:00Speaker 1: we can talk about that, whether you do it in
- 16:02Speaker 1: written form not written for him, in audio form or
- 16:06Speaker 1: in an interview right as far as well, let me
- 16:09Speaker 1: say it, because both for audio, right, respond via rapping
- 16:15Speaker 1: or in an interview or whatever or live or whatever.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Don't try to throw other people who are like you
- 16:25Speaker 1: into that conversation like a drake just because you feel
- 16:30Speaker 1: hurt by what's being said. And one other thing that
- 16:34Speaker 1: was interesting, and you know, this is why it's the
- 16:37Speaker 1: title of this episode this week is bun Bee was
- 16:41Speaker 1: on Shannon Sharp's Nightcap podcast and he said, you know,
- 16:48Speaker 1: and he didn't pick a side, right because Travis Scott
- 16:51Speaker 1: is from Houston, but he wanted excuse me, he wanted
- 16:54Speaker 1: people to know that Travis Scott is from Houston, and
- 17:00Speaker 1: me knowing him, he's going to respond, He's not gonna
- 17:05Speaker 1: let that just go now in the same breath because
- 17:09Speaker 1: originally I ain't even watched the rest. Once he said that,
- 17:11Speaker 1: I was like, what being from somewhere got to do
- 17:13Speaker 1: with you having a capability to battle or be nice
- 17:17Speaker 1: enough or have the heart to do it? Right? We
- 17:21Speaker 1: all say that because of where we're from and the pride,
- 17:23Speaker 1: but we act like we don't know suckers right, Suckers
- 17:28Speaker 1: are everywhere. Okay, But with that being said, I thought
- 17:33Speaker 1: about it. I was like, Wow, should Travis Scott respond now?
- 17:40Speaker 1: I tweeted out or post it depending on where you are,
- 17:47Speaker 1: that Travis Scott can respond, but he's going to get
- 17:51Speaker 1: cooked like a trill burger Blaine broiled right, Because it's true,
- 18:01Speaker 1: there's nothing about Travis Scott's music that I don't dislike.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Necessarily that told me he's a rappers rapper, he's a
- 18:12Speaker 1: bar king, he can go with the bars. He is
- 18:16Speaker 1: a songmaker and a highly successful one at back. But
- 18:21Speaker 1: like pusha t said, I don't want to hear from
- 18:25Speaker 1: you non rappers. If you don't, I don't like rappers
- 18:28Speaker 1: who don't rap. I gave you the definition of that bars. See,
- 18:32Speaker 1: it's easy for me right now. I'm not mad if
- 18:38Speaker 1: he does, because as a man, I mean, and especially
- 18:42Speaker 1: as an image, especially coming off of Battle that had
- 18:46Speaker 1: not only the hip hop head's attention but also the
- 18:49Speaker 1: attention of the world in a lot of respects, especially
- 18:54Speaker 1: because it was on like the super Bowlcus, I know
- 18:56Speaker 1: somebody might be like, oh, you mean the world. The
- 18:58Speaker 1: world watches the Super Bowl dog and he performed not
- 19:01Speaker 1: like us, right, So then what happens after that, people
- 19:05Speaker 1: don't know go and start googling and everything, and they
- 19:08Speaker 1: find a whole battle. So for someone of Travis Scott's stature,
- 19:14Speaker 1: who is a bigger artist, regardless if you prefer Push
- 19:17Speaker 1: your tea's he's the bigger artist success wise. I don't
- 19:23Speaker 1: know if he want to do that, he will not win.
- 19:30Speaker 1: An ain't no amount of ghostwriters in the world because
- 19:33Speaker 1: you don't have that built in integrity already to lift
- 19:38Speaker 1: your bars up, even if you come out with something dope,
- 19:41Speaker 1: because the minute push your t decides Okay, now I'm
- 19:44Speaker 1: gonna put all my attention on you. It's it's lights out.
- 19:48Speaker 1: We know it's going to be lights out. We know
- 19:51Speaker 1: we already listening to these clips, records like my God
- 19:55Speaker 1: Pusher mate already have it. This may be the reason
- 19:59Speaker 1: why he's so open about talking about it, because he
- 20:01Speaker 1: already got the bullets and the click. He's just waiting
- 20:06Speaker 1: for this dude to do some non rapper I'm better
- 20:10Speaker 1: than you, I'm richer than you stuff, so he can
- 20:12Speaker 1: mark him out for the rest of the eternity. And
- 20:17Speaker 1: some people may say, well, Travis is too successful for that.
- 20:20Speaker 1: As Drake, what that feels like, I mean, I got
- 20:26Speaker 1: the best of Drake playlist, I got Drake albums. I
- 20:28Speaker 1: like Drake. But he is eternally scarred by this battle,
- 20:34Speaker 1: so much that he started chipping in with some of
- 20:38Speaker 1: the scarring of hisself just doing stuff because he don't
- 20:42Speaker 1: know what to do. I should be better because I'm
- 20:44Speaker 1: richer and I'm more popular, but he wasn't. So my
- 20:48Speaker 1: advice to Travis Scott ignore it. Ignoring it is the
- 20:54Speaker 1: easiest thing you could do, because you know why, after
- 20:57Speaker 1: the people get exhausted with imagining what that battle would
- 21:01Speaker 1: be like, they move on and months down the line,
- 21:06Speaker 1: you dropping single album and you go. But if you engage,
- 21:13Speaker 1: we are going to learn things about you that we
- 21:16Speaker 1: did not know, and some of your fans are going
- 21:21Speaker 1: to be like, hey, I don't like him no more.
- 21:24Speaker 1: It just it happens, as Jo Rul Joe rue was
- 21:27Speaker 1: I fifty said, Yo, he's singing for holes like the
- 21:31Speaker 1: Cookie Monster, and everybody say, oh Joe Ruth's whack now
- 21:34Speaker 1: like what yesterday we were partying to his records. Just happens.
- 21:40Speaker 1: So move accordingly, is what I have to say. And
- 21:43Speaker 1: you know, I know that was a long winded section,
- 21:48Speaker 1: but it's brewing. It could be on and popping by
- 21:51Speaker 1: the time this is out. Who knows next story. So,
- 21:58Speaker 1: according to Lil Wayne's Lil Wayne wrote most of Drake's
- 22:06Speaker 1: lyrics back in the day, I guess here's a quote
- 22:12Speaker 1: my dad wrote most of Drake's ish, I mean, on
- 22:16Speaker 1: god like, if it wasn't for my pops, there wouldn't
- 22:21Speaker 1: be no Drake. I mean, there probably would be a thing,
- 22:26Speaker 1: but he wouldn't be where he's at. Though, no disrespect
- 22:31Speaker 1: to Drake. He hard. First of all, Shorty pause. Second
- 22:35Speaker 1: of all, if y'all see the photo of Shorty, my god,
- 22:38Speaker 1: is that little Wayne? I don't know to these y'all
- 22:45Speaker 1: young cats, y'all just don't know. Sometimes y'all just say
- 22:48Speaker 1: stuff right now? Do I believe him? I don't know.
- 22:51Speaker 1: I don't even know how old Shorty was when Drake
- 22:54Speaker 1: was out. He looked wild young, So he may feel
- 22:58Speaker 1: some kind of way about Drake because something else. We
- 23:01Speaker 1: know what that is. So maybe that's why he's saying this,
- 23:06Speaker 1: because I mean, what you know, Shorty, go to the store,
- 23:09Speaker 1: go play with your Nintendo switch? Right? Do you really know?
- 23:14Speaker 1: Have you been told this? If you were in a session,
- 23:17Speaker 1: how old were you? And I'm talking about early days now.
- 23:20Speaker 1: If he's saying, Lil Wayne been writing forever up until
- 23:24Speaker 1: recent times, and that's something different. But I don't know
- 23:27Speaker 1: whether to believe him or not, you know there is
- 23:30Speaker 1: I have a lot of questions in that regard, but
- 23:33Speaker 1: let's play in hypotheticis is there a clear sign lyrically
- 23:40Speaker 1: that Lil Wayne could have wrote a lot of stuff
- 23:44Speaker 1: for Drake, which if I'm looking at what his little
- 23:48Speaker 1: what his son is saying, he's probably talking about hits,
- 23:53Speaker 1: absolutely their songs. And you know, I know, if you
- 23:57Speaker 1: know the artists well enough, especially as a fan, I'm
- 24:00Speaker 1: a fan of a little way a fan of Drake, especially
- 24:05Speaker 1: knowing all the things that have been exposed over time
- 24:08Speaker 1: with Drake. You sometimes you wonder what was his pen?
- 24:13Speaker 1: What song is defended on? Some rap stuff definitively his pen?
- 24:20Speaker 1: Drake wrote that no one else. We can't really take
- 24:24Speaker 1: the word from Drake because he'd been trying to flashy
- 24:27Speaker 1: thing us with everything. Right, he's trying to flashy thing
- 24:29Speaker 1: us with the with the damn battle like he won
- 24:33Speaker 1: in round two's and tutored out lips with a bunch
- 24:37Speaker 1: of grown men in the mall. But some of us
- 24:41Speaker 1: is like, we too hip hop for that, So we
- 24:45Speaker 1: don't know what to believe. We would like to believe
- 24:49Speaker 1: some of your best bars came from you, and I
- 24:53Speaker 1: think in some ways, it has to be because like
- 24:57Speaker 1: early mixtape Drake, before he was really a f affiliated
- 25:00Speaker 1: with Lil Wayne, it wasn't like he was whack, and
- 25:04Speaker 1: then all of a sudden he switched. Now we know
- 25:08Speaker 1: what Lil Wayne. It wasn't like he was whack with
- 25:11Speaker 1: cash Money initially, but we know his style switched drastically,
- 25:17Speaker 1: and some call it the influence of Gilly the Kid
- 25:22Speaker 1: on Cash Money, and then others call it Gilly was
- 25:25Speaker 1: right in those bars because if you didn't know, Gilly
- 25:27Speaker 1: the Kid is not just ball ahead dude with a podcast.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Looked like he was having a stroke every time he talked.
- 25:34Speaker 1: He had bars. Back in the day, he was a
- 25:37Speaker 1: spitter out of Philly, Like, no, I don't care what
- 25:41Speaker 1: he looked like him Joe Budden, Yo, these dudes could rap.
- 25:45Speaker 1: There's a reason why some people listen to them, right,
- 25:48Speaker 1: because they know what they're talking about. So it was
- 25:51Speaker 1: like with Lil Wayne in that whole situation. I could
- 25:55Speaker 1: hear the bar version of Lil Wayne in some of
- 26:02Speaker 1: Drake's music, right, I could hear it. And we know
- 26:07Speaker 1: there's songs that were instrumental in Drake's beginnings. Best I've
- 26:13Speaker 1: had that came from somebody else. Right, So the whole
- 26:21Speaker 1: Frankenstein's Monster hip Hop theory on Drake was early. Now,
- 26:29Speaker 1: real quick, I'm gonna just say that because I've been
- 26:33Speaker 1: making these podcasts way too long later, But I just
- 26:35Speaker 1: want to say that early on, I mean not early on,
- 26:40Speaker 1: but a known thing in the record industry, even if
- 26:45Speaker 1: you're not in it as a fan. That's like a
- 26:49Speaker 1: pattern that you can see is that typically most rappers
- 26:54Speaker 1: get on based off of their own merits. Right. In
- 26:58Speaker 1: Drake's case is like I could and I could sing,
- 27:01Speaker 1: and I can make beats and his my mixtape, right,
- 27:04Speaker 1: same thing with Ja Cole, Right, I could rap his
- 27:07Speaker 1: my mixtape. Like everybody has that origin story that is
- 27:12Speaker 1: absolutely their pin. Unless you were lacking in a lot
- 27:18Speaker 1: of areas creating your first album and the record company
- 27:23Speaker 1: had to assist, whether it's writers, whether it's the right beats,
- 27:30Speaker 1: it's all about it's not just about the music, it's
- 27:33Speaker 1: not just about the pen. It's also about the marketing
- 27:36Speaker 1: of that individual. I could see in some instances a
- 27:42Speaker 1: person not having enough and so they created. Now that
- 27:48Speaker 1: doesn't mean Drake can't learn from that and then know
- 27:53Speaker 1: how to create it for himself and not need a
- 27:57Speaker 1: bunch of people like as far as writers and producers.
- 28:01Speaker 1: But history, in recent history has shown that you have
- 28:05Speaker 1: to look at his situation with a side eye. And
- 28:09Speaker 1: maybe you remember that show kids say the darnedest things.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Maybe Shorty is like, I don't care. My pops was
- 28:18Speaker 1: right in that stuff. And maybe even if he was
- 28:21Speaker 1: too young to really know it, he might be standing
- 28:25Speaker 1: around Wayne in the living room he looking at a
- 28:29Speaker 1: Drake video like I wrote that, not even talking to Shorty.
- 28:34Speaker 1: But Shorty's just listening because as his father, he look
- 28:36Speaker 1: up to him. I mean, you look at the picture like,
- 28:37Speaker 1: and is he him if your dad is like on
- 28:42Speaker 1: the phone and like, they owe me money because blah
- 28:45Speaker 1: blah blah blah blah. I did this, I did that,
- 28:47Speaker 1: I did this, I did that. And some people will say, well,
- 28:50Speaker 1: why don't Wayne just say that, Well, because it's not on.
- 28:54Speaker 1: If it was on between Drake and Lil Wayne, which
- 29:00Speaker 1: things looked suspicions suspiciously like it is, but they're just
- 29:04Speaker 1: not airing it out and they're on pick sides and
- 29:07Speaker 1: all that. And I don't think Lil Wayne wants to
- 29:09Speaker 1: get involved in that way. But it would be dope.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Imagine if Lil Wayne just made a disrecord about Drake
- 29:15Speaker 1: and they went back and forth. I think I'd be
- 29:18Speaker 1: here for that because it's that would be that would
- 29:22Speaker 1: be a lot. It will air out a lot of information,
- 29:25Speaker 1: so it's shortly telling the truth. Who knows right, It
- 29:30Speaker 1: could be his emotional attachment to that relationship, but also
- 29:37Speaker 1: could be his emotional attachment that tells him, yeah, you
- 29:40Speaker 1: asked me. My pops wrote most of that. He wrote
- 29:43Speaker 1: some stuff, but if it wasn't for my Pops, he
- 29:45Speaker 1: wouldn't be on. And there's a lot of truth to that.
- 29:49Speaker 1: So let me know what you think about that. In
- 29:51Speaker 1: a common section below, do you believe this little cat?
- 29:56Speaker 1: You know? I don't know? You tell me? And lastly,
- 30:03Speaker 1: so y'all know you know I did a recent episode
- 30:06Speaker 1: the Best of twenty twenty five. So far you will
- 30:09Speaker 1: see more lists start to come out. I just kind
- 30:14Speaker 1: of followed the steps of Rolling Stones. They already dropped
- 30:18Speaker 1: their joint, so I was like, I'm a drop mine,
- 30:21Speaker 1: and I knew there was a possibility that there could
- 30:25Speaker 1: be albums released between because the ideal time to drop
- 30:29Speaker 1: those are after the second quarter, which is around June thirtieth,
- 30:34Speaker 1: and as recorded as of the recording of this video
- 30:37Speaker 1: on this podcast, we got it like another week or
- 30:40Speaker 1: so to go right before we get there. But I
- 30:43Speaker 1: kind of wanted to put Mines out because it just
- 30:45Speaker 1: didn't feel like there was anything on the horizon that
- 30:48Speaker 1: was going to make my best of twenty twenty five
- 30:52Speaker 1: so far. Well, I think I was wrong because the
- 30:57Speaker 1: album I'm reviewing today on the podcast, if you don't know,
- 31:00Speaker 1: Project EP, whatever you want to call it, is featuring
- 31:05Speaker 1: Davies and Young Chris, and it's called Fine Dining. This
- 31:10Speaker 1: is Davies's second collaboration with another artist this year. He
- 31:15Speaker 1: did in a project with Ransom called Final Call, which
- 31:19Speaker 1: made My Best of twenty twenty five so far. Well,
- 31:22Speaker 1: guess what Davies on two less Because long story short,
- 31:29Speaker 1: I like it a lot. I like it a lot.
- 31:32Speaker 1: I like the bars, I like the beat selection, I
- 31:35Speaker 1: like the vibe. I like the parent of those two.
- 31:38Speaker 1: I think the parent of Young Chris and Dave East
- 31:42Speaker 1: is a little bit closer to Synergy than Ransom and Davies,
- 31:48Speaker 1: even though that project was still dope. This feels more
- 31:52Speaker 1: organic and maybe it's just more my style as a listener.
- 31:55Speaker 1: But I can listen to both now, yeah, I know
- 32:00Speaker 1: how I do. When it comes to reviews. I listen
- 32:02Speaker 1: to it three times. My first listen is just impressions, right,
- 32:07Speaker 1: second listen, I'm gonna listen more intently to the songs,
- 32:12Speaker 1: the bars, the concept, all of that. And my third
- 32:16Speaker 1: listen is just to confirm my thoughts. And like I said,
- 32:20Speaker 1: this project is I mean, it's dope. It's dope. I
- 32:26Speaker 1: like it a lot. Now is it best of the year.
- 32:29Speaker 1: I don't know. Will determine that when we get to
- 32:32Speaker 1: the end and it's you know, there's a couple of
- 32:35Speaker 1: features on here, but not many. It's really like three
- 32:38Speaker 1: Ransom being one of them on a song called Kiss
- 32:41Speaker 1: the Sky, and I like it a lot. Man Like,
- 32:46Speaker 1: there's probably one song on here, and I think it's
- 32:50Speaker 1: the joint called Ain't Adding Up? I think so I'm
- 32:55Speaker 1: forgetting a little bit. But there's no skips for me
- 33:00Speaker 1: on here, and I've already listened to it about four times,
- 33:03Speaker 1: to be honest, there's no skip for me, Like I
- 33:06Speaker 1: could let it ride, And I don't know. Maybe it's
- 33:09Speaker 1: the timing of this album, the music, the fact that
- 33:12Speaker 1: we're about to get a heat wave of ninety degree
- 33:15Speaker 1: weather after having a bunch of rains. So now I
- 33:18Speaker 1: get to pop out in my shorts and show off
- 33:20Speaker 1: my work from the gym, you know, stuff like that.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Maybe that's what it is. But long story short, I
- 33:30Speaker 1: know I probably said that, long story long then, okay?
- 33:35Speaker 1: Is that if you like Davies and if you've been
- 33:38Speaker 1: missing honestly, young Chris and we all know, you know,
- 33:43Speaker 1: we don't know. I'm not even gonna get into it
- 33:45Speaker 1: with Young Chris and you know, hove, but Young Chris
- 33:50Speaker 1: is a respect to MC and this pairing with Davies
- 33:54Speaker 1: was something that was not on my bingo card. But
- 33:57Speaker 1: it's pretty dope. It's pretty dope. It's boomback is recognizable,
- 34:04Speaker 1: samples from hit records, not necessarily all recent, a lot
- 34:09Speaker 1: of maybe soul records, you know what I'm saying. Like,
- 34:14Speaker 1: I think there's a sample of Rose Royce on here
- 34:18Speaker 1: Love Don't live here no more? Right, they flipped that
- 34:20Speaker 1: beat Like it's things like that that made me love.
- 34:25Speaker 1: His mixtape from last year was scram Jones called for
- 34:29Speaker 1: the Love, Like I just loved what they were doing
- 34:32Speaker 1: with the production. Right, So if you like these two artists,
- 34:38Speaker 1: if you like what this sounds like, because it's not
- 34:41Speaker 1: just you know, not just the lovey w tracks. It's
- 34:44Speaker 1: some boom back there. There's even some little bit of
- 34:48Speaker 1: you know, eight OA trap kind of feeling stuff there.
- 34:51Speaker 1: But it's really that's like one song, right, which is
- 34:54Speaker 1: not a problem. I think you would like this project.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I know a lot of artists release albums like crazy today,
- 35:05Speaker 1: like Bodie James, he probably released one hundred albums so
- 35:09Speaker 1: far in twenty twenty five. But I think if you're
- 35:13Speaker 1: going to release three or four projects, if their quality projects,
- 35:19Speaker 1: especially something like this that's a collaboration, so you get
- 35:21Speaker 1: to hear him with a different artist and you could
- 35:24Speaker 1: tell the vibe is different. I'm all forward, Like, if
- 35:28Speaker 1: Dave East wants to do two more of these with
- 35:31Speaker 1: artists that makes sense, I'd be with it, you know
- 35:35Speaker 1: what I'm saying. As long as this level of attention
- 35:39Speaker 1: is put on the beats, the choices of beats, the bars,
- 35:46Speaker 1: even the concepts in some ways, so I enjoy it.
- 35:49Speaker 1: So have you heard Davies and Young Chris's latest project?
