- 0:09Speaker 2: The World's a regional podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Wait, look at Ms Tannover here back from Guatemala.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Who was there for two weeks.
- 0:23Speaker 4: I don't think I spent one thousand dollars two weeks.
- 0:25Speaker 2: You didn't spend one thousand dollars. I think we need bugs.
- 0:28Speaker 2: No God, the speech is okay.
- 0:32Speaker 4: The speeches were fine.
- 0:33Speaker 2: For those of you who don't know me, my name
- 0:36Speaker 2: is Janelle.
- 0:37Speaker 4: I was roommates with the bride in college.
- 0:41Speaker 5: Just get real.
- 0:41Speaker 6: Back back to my flag, grim mass thing.
- 0:43Speaker 4: The quarterbacks coach who got fourteen good games out of
- 0:46Speaker 4: Sam donold that that's the guy.
- 0:47Speaker 6: That's the answer, that's what you would feel great about.
- 0:49Speaker 4: You'd feel better about him.
- 0:51Speaker 7: Which is just the unknown.
- 0:52Speaker 4: I get it.
- 0:53Speaker 6: But it's also the like anger the other.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Point, which which I just I don't know if I'm
- 0:57Speaker 4: I don't know if I'm angry enough to get the
- 0:58Speaker 4: Paul de Bate, You're angry.
- 1:00Speaker 8: You shouldn't be somebody who has that much money and
- 1:03Speaker 8: walking into a stadium wearing what she wears.
- 1:06Speaker 2: You know, when she's on stage and you know, she
- 1:08Speaker 2: looks like somebody that's a band major. I know, but
- 1:12Speaker 2: like if she all of a sudden started dressing like shiz,
- 1:16Speaker 2: who is it?
- 1:17Speaker 4: I just have one question, if you can ask you
- 1:18Speaker 4: one more question. Have you ever seen over the top?
- 1:20Speaker 4: And is there a subculture of arm wrestling in the
- 1:23Speaker 4: truck driving community.
- 1:24Speaker 8: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website.
- 1:28Speaker 2: For deals, buy a Toyota dot com. Tuesday here at
- 1:36Speaker 2: Jillette Stadium and Evan's back from Disney World.
- 1:40Speaker 7: I mean the Senior Bowl basically.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Yeah, so we'll talk about that. It's Deuce, it's Paul,
- 1:45Speaker 2: it's me, it's Matt and Nabooth. You got a lot
- 1:47Speaker 2: of NFL stuff to talk about, some Patriots stuff to
- 1:51Speaker 2: talk about. We get the Pro Bowl. I don't want
- 1:54Speaker 2: to talk about Drake May at the Pro Bowl. I
- 1:56Speaker 2: wasn't happy. Yeah, I don't want to talk about that.
- 1:59Speaker 2: But a lot of stuff going on. Obviously it's Super
- 2:02Speaker 2: Bowl week. They had media night last night down in
- 2:05Speaker 2: New Orleans, and I think that's gotten less and less
- 2:08Speaker 2: of an event, don't you think. Yeah, you know it
- 2:11Speaker 2: doesn't have the organic nature it used to have.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Well because the Patriots aren't ever like.
- 2:17Speaker 6: Me, not to take Evan's side of the street, but
- 2:20Speaker 6: it's just got nothing to do with football.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Well, that was the fun of it for me. It
- 2:24Speaker 2: was kind of the fun of it. Let's get all
- 2:26Speaker 2: the silliness out of the way and then we'll get
- 2:28Speaker 2: into football.
- 2:29Speaker 4: It's so weird for it. I used to watch it.
- 2:31Speaker 4: I mean, probably because the Patriots weren't it but Tuesdays, right,
- 2:33Speaker 4: it was like that Tuesday they didn't move it up
- 2:36Speaker 4: a d I remember being so excited for that, and
- 2:38Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know why I was a crazy fan,
- 2:40Speaker 4: But now that it's Monday nights, I don't even watch
- 2:42Speaker 4: it anymore. Yeah, because it's not the Patriots.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I mean maybe I'm just jelly because I'm not down there,
- 2:46Speaker 2: you know. Yeah, but yeah, it just doesn't seem to
- 2:51Speaker 2: have the excitement that it used to have.
- 2:54Speaker 7: Well because the Chiefs are in it every single year.
- 2:56Speaker 4: So.
- 2:59Speaker 7: It's less that.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I think the league is really try to make it
- 3:02Speaker 2: more of a TV event, and that's the problem. This
- 3:05Speaker 2: used to it used to happen a Tuesday in the
- 3:06Speaker 2: middle of the afternoon, yeah, right now it's a primetime
- 3:09Speaker 2: event and it's kind of lost.
- 3:12Speaker 6: It's no, I agree, it's it's not even as limited
- 3:18Speaker 6: as it was. It's not even as good as that,
- 3:20Speaker 6: I agree with you. And it's not just because we're not.
- 3:22Speaker 2: There, right, that's part of it, though, it's a huge.
- 3:25Speaker 6: Part of it.
- 3:26Speaker 7: It stinks.
- 3:27Speaker 2: It stinks.
- 3:28Speaker 7: It's not a good event. No, it stinks. Okay, there's
- 3:31Speaker 7: just you get maybe one good SoundBite out of it,
- 3:35Speaker 7: when Tom Brady cries about his dad or something like that,
- 3:38Speaker 7: and that's it.
- 3:39Speaker 6: I used to go and try because everybody is there,
- 3:42Speaker 6: all the personnel for both sides, so it's all the players,
- 3:45Speaker 6: all the coaches.
- 3:46Speaker 2: It's really the best access you can get all week
- 3:48Speaker 2: to coaches, right, not to players, right. Players. You can
- 3:51Speaker 2: do that during the week.
- 3:52Speaker 7: So we had the coaches available during the week as well.
- 3:56Speaker 7: Though I remember sitting at a table with.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Yeah available at the hotel.
- 4:03Speaker 6: Yeah, that does happen. So that's the only thing you
- 4:06Speaker 6: could ever get out of me Media day to me, like,
- 4:09Speaker 6: even since we've been involved in it has always been
- 4:11Speaker 6: sort of about entertainment, not football. So you know, they
- 4:15Speaker 6: used to have like fifteen podiums set up. You know,
- 4:19Speaker 6: any of those guys, forget about it. You're not getting
- 4:21Speaker 6: anywhere near them to ask anything football related. It's all
- 4:25Speaker 6: sort of human interest entertainment kind of stuff. And some
- 4:28Speaker 6: of it is interesting. I'm not saying it's all useless,
- 4:31Speaker 6: but if you're trying to get something about the team,
- 4:35Speaker 6: that's when I used to try to get assistant coaches,
- 4:38Speaker 6: you know, up in the stands and just sort of
- 4:40Speaker 6: pick their brain and see how much of an inkling
- 4:43Speaker 6: you could get into the game plan and stuff like
- 4:45Speaker 6: that and what, you know, what they thought was important
- 4:48Speaker 6: that particular week, you know for the game.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yep, do they still have like the crazy people dressed
- 4:53Speaker 2: up like representing Nickelodeon Lady from Mexico is like somebody
- 4:58Speaker 2: from Yeah, do they still have all that?
- 5:02Speaker 6: That is one of the redeeming values of that night.
- 5:04Speaker 6: There's there's some talent. Yeah, there's some talent in that stadium.
- 5:08Speaker 6: What do you mean, Paul, I mean it's not just
- 5:11Speaker 6: at the podium hot women.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I remember the last time we were there, I think
- 5:15Speaker 2: it was the last one, maybe the second to last one.
- 5:18Speaker 2: One of our players, somebody in the secondary. We got
- 5:22Speaker 2: word that he plays the organ and sings at his church.
- 5:27Speaker 2: So I bought that little electric organ and I brought
- 5:32Speaker 2: that put in the stand, got them all together and
- 5:34Speaker 2: he choked like we got him going for a little bit,
- 5:38Speaker 2: but like he couldn't do it. He couldn't do it,
- 5:41Speaker 2: couldn't do it.
- 5:42Speaker 4: A lot of pressure.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Yeah, So tried to do something out of that. Okay,
- 5:46Speaker 2: it was the one in Atlanta. It was the last.
- 5:49Speaker 2: That was the last one. Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, what
- 5:54Speaker 2: else we got. Let's uh, let's get into the Senior Bowl.
- 5:57Speaker 2: What so, coming off the Senior Bowl, are you more
- 6:00Speaker 2: or less encouraged about rounds three, four, five, and six?
- 6:05Speaker 7: What about seven?
- 6:06Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's hard to get excited about round seven.
- 6:10Speaker 7: Okay, yeah, I would say, you know, I was talking
- 6:14Speaker 7: to Deuce about this before the show. The defensive line
- 6:19Speaker 7: in particular is extremely deep this year. I would say,
- 6:23Speaker 7: both interior and edge rushers extremely deep. I mean, they
- 6:26Speaker 7: obviously cut the top off of the draft at these events,
- 6:29Speaker 7: so you're not seeing the top twenty top twenty five
- 6:32Speaker 7: players in the country, and you're still looking at guys
- 6:35Speaker 7: on day two where you really can see some NFL
- 6:38Speaker 7: talent and some NFL upside there. So I was impressed
- 6:42Speaker 7: with a lot of the edge rushers, in particular Kid
- 6:47Speaker 7: from Marshall Mike Green just blew people up all week long.
- 6:50Speaker 7: He was really impressive. But there was other people too
- 6:53Speaker 7: that were great. So I think that that's a standout
- 6:57Speaker 7: position group in this draft, defensive defensive line, edge or
- 7:01Speaker 7: interior defensive line. Obviously, there's a lot of running backs
- 7:05Speaker 7: in this draft as well, and again you're not seeing
- 7:08Speaker 7: you know, Ash and Genty at this event. You're not
- 7:11Speaker 7: seeing those types of guys. You're seeing more of the
- 7:13Speaker 7: Day two and three guys. And there's still some talent
- 7:15Speaker 7: there at that position, and some tight ends as well,
- 7:19Speaker 7: I think are the I would say those are the
- 7:21Speaker 7: three strengths of the draft. If you're really looking for
- 7:23Speaker 7: the best position groups, I would hit those.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Three, okay. And in terms of any I know the
- 7:31Speaker 2: Patriots aren't in the market, but any qbs like.
- 7:35Speaker 7: No, it's a disappointing week for a lot of the quarterbacks.
- 7:38Speaker 7: You're gonna here if you read anything about the Senior
- 7:40Speaker 7: Bowl or any recaps. For whatever reason, Jackson Dart has
- 7:44Speaker 7: the best PR team in the world. I don't know
- 7:46Speaker 7: what that is about. Not trying to put him down
- 7:50Speaker 7: too much. But I just thought some of the praise,
- 7:53Speaker 7: especially from the national guys really pushing Jackson Dart as
- 7:56Speaker 7: a potential first round prospect, gave me a lot of
- 8:00Speaker 7: like Malik Willis type vibes, where like they had to
- 8:03Speaker 7: hype somebody from this event at that position, and he
- 8:06Speaker 7: was just sort of the guy that got a lot
- 8:08Speaker 7: of it. Jalen Milroll throws the ball extremely hard. He
- 8:12Speaker 7: can really zip it, but he has no control over
- 8:15Speaker 7: it whatsoever. Kind of reminded me a little bit of
- 8:18Speaker 7: Joe Milton's performance at the Senior Bowl last year, where
- 8:20Speaker 7: you can see the arm talent mobility not as big
- 8:24Speaker 7: or like as freakishly athletic as Joe Milton, but it
- 8:27Speaker 7: was It's not a good year for quarterbacks, and there
- 8:30Speaker 7: weren't very many good ones at the Senior Bowl.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I mean it's you know, the Senior Bowl can't be
- 8:34Speaker 2: that great when even Jim Nagy, who runs the thing,
- 8:37Speaker 2: kind of downplays, you know, the top end talent.
- 8:41Speaker 7: Yeah, like last year Bo Knicks and Michael Pennix were
- 8:45Speaker 7: at the Senior Bowl with the quarterbacks. Now, neither one
- 8:48Speaker 7: of them had like a stellar week necessarily, but two
- 8:52Speaker 7: guys that ended up going in the top half of
- 8:54Speaker 7: the first round and had great rookie years in bo
- 8:56Speaker 7: Nix's case, So there was a lot of quarterback talent
- 9:00Speaker 7: that was to think about it now, like that those
- 9:02Speaker 7: were the depth quarterbacks in last year's class, right, Like,
- 9:05Speaker 7: those were quarterbacks four and five that were at the
- 9:08Speaker 7: Senior Bowl to try to help improve their draft stock.
- 9:11Speaker 7: And now we get to this year and you're already
- 9:14Speaker 7: watered down.
- 9:15Speaker 2: What about mid round wide receivers?
- 9:18Speaker 7: Yeah, I thought that a couple guys showed really well.
- 9:20Speaker 7: Jend and Higgins from Iowa State, I think was probably
- 9:23Speaker 7: the best in my opinion. A lot of people like
- 9:26Speaker 7: his teammate Jyllen Knowle as well, he was really good.
- 9:29Speaker 7: But both those two guys I felt like were running
- 9:32Speaker 7: NFL routes. A lot of these guys nowadays you get
- 9:34Speaker 7: down to the Senior Bowl and one on ones and
- 9:37Speaker 7: they're running like double moves and like, you know, just
- 9:40Speaker 7: trying to create as much flashiness and separation as possible.
- 9:43Speaker 7: I thought those two guys were really translatable. Higgins more
- 9:48Speaker 7: of like an outside receiver, got some size, ability to
- 9:51Speaker 7: win down the field and contested catches. He's kind of
- 9:53Speaker 7: like the day two Ted McMillan, you know, same kind
- 9:56Speaker 7: of skill set. Noel is more of like a chain
- 9:59Speaker 7: mover slot Lad McConkey type that that's pretty good at
- 10:03Speaker 7: the top of the route. So I thought both those
- 10:05Speaker 7: guys were good. Tess Johnson had a really nice week.
- 10:07Speaker 7: But he's one of those speedy, speedy, undersized, speedy guys.
- 10:13Speaker 7: Yeah that just gets open in one on ones and
- 10:15Speaker 7: things like that because of his athletic ability and speed.
- 10:19Speaker 7: But I really thought they're both those cyclones. I thought
- 10:21Speaker 7: both those guys stood out.
- 10:24Speaker 2: And when you're there for practices, are you on the field.
- 10:28Speaker 7: Uh No, So they limit like on field access to
- 10:31Speaker 7: a certain amount of people, so not everybody, but you're
- 10:35Speaker 7: you're in the stands watching. It's a lot like training camp,
- 10:38Speaker 7: Like you know, you're in the stands, but you don't.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Get to like kind of listen in on coaches or
- 10:42Speaker 2: scouts talking.
- 10:43Speaker 7: You do, but not I wouldn't say on the field,
- 10:47Speaker 7: but in the stands you can there. Yeah.
- 10:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:52Speaker 7: So like our contingent kind of all sat together in
- 10:55Speaker 7: one section and they you know, we have that shot
- 10:58Speaker 7: on Patriots dot Com of Rabel Elliott and Ryan Cowden
- 11:02Speaker 7: all in a row, you know, sitting together, so that
- 11:05Speaker 7: that did happen a lot. Some of our guys would
- 11:08Speaker 7: go down to the field too, but more more like
- 11:11Speaker 7: the scouts, you know, my macro on down were the
- 11:14Speaker 7: guys that were kind of on the field for us,
- 11:15Speaker 7: whereas the big three we're up in the stands.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Okay, all right, you guys have any questions about sing
- 11:22Speaker 2: your bowl now?
- 11:23Speaker 4: We mean and everyone chatting a little bit about it.
- 11:24Speaker 4: I mean think now it's the point where you start
- 11:26Speaker 4: to figure out how it all stacks up. I think
- 11:29Speaker 4: you mean you ask good questions, Fred, I think those
- 11:30Speaker 4: are and I think it's encouraging about the defensive line
- 11:33Speaker 4: and the defensive ends. I think it's a spot where
- 11:34Speaker 4: they don't have a lot of depth. They might be
- 11:36Speaker 4: kind of switching the scheme around a little bit where
- 11:38Speaker 4: they're gonna have some new needs. And I think you
- 11:39Speaker 4: could really, you know, look at that weak side edge
- 11:42Speaker 4: as a spot where you just you don't even have
- 11:44Speaker 4: a guy on the roster right now who can get
- 11:46Speaker 4: off the ball and get the corner and put pressure
- 11:48Speaker 4: on the quarterback. Not that they're gonna be able to
- 11:50Speaker 4: get a dual Carter's out of my range now. But
- 11:52Speaker 4: Mike Green even, you know, like those kind of guys
- 11:54Speaker 4: with some speed that you know you can put a
- 11:56Speaker 4: key on White on the strong side and you know
- 11:59Speaker 4: he'll hold up. But you just you need somebody who's
- 12:01Speaker 4: going to get after the quarterback in that spot. I
- 12:02Speaker 4: think it's a key spot for the Pats defense.
- 12:04Speaker 2: So obviously this is all getting ready for the draft.
- 12:08Speaker 2: But yeah, free agency comes first, and a couple, you know,
- 12:13Speaker 2: people of note, have gone out on social media and
- 12:17Speaker 2: said they want to be traded, Miles Garrett and Cooper Cup.
- 12:23Speaker 2: You know, as soon as that happens, you see the
- 12:25Speaker 2: Patriots people with the eye the eyeballs. What are we
- 12:30Speaker 2: thinking do we make Should we be making a play
- 12:33Speaker 2: at either one of those guys.
- 12:35Speaker 4: I just I'm at the point personally where I can't
- 12:38Speaker 4: say no to anybody because the Patriots just they don't
- 12:40Speaker 4: really have the talent. And I can make an argument
- 12:42Speaker 4: for any of these guys. Cooper Cup, you want to
- 12:43Speaker 4: bring him in. Yes he's a little old, but to
- 12:45Speaker 4: have a reliable receiver, a professional receiver, somebody who might
- 12:48Speaker 4: go into that room and really maybe set a tone
- 12:51Speaker 4: that needs to be set sure, Miles Garrett. I mean, look,
- 12:54Speaker 4: I love him, he's still twenty nine. I mean it's
- 12:56Speaker 4: it's it's a little bit on the cuffs for me.
- 12:58Speaker 4: But like I just said, that's the spot, that's the
- 13:00Speaker 4: spot right there. Plug him in at right defensive end
- 13:03Speaker 4: and maybe you forget.
- 13:04Speaker 6: I don't know if it makes sense in terms of
- 13:05Speaker 6: the resources you're going to have to give up to
- 13:07Speaker 6: get Miles Garrett. I don't know if the timeline.
- 13:11Speaker 2: No.
- 13:11Speaker 6: I know the Browns have been adamant that they don't
- 13:13Speaker 6: want And just as a slight correction, Miles Garrett is
- 13:16Speaker 6: requested a trade. Cup is saying that the Rams intend
- 13:19Speaker 6: to trade.
- 13:20Speaker 2: True. True, that's a big difference, just.
- 13:21Speaker 6: A minor technicality there. But I would be interested in Cup.
- 13:27Speaker 6: But I need to see what they do, you know.
- 13:30Speaker 6: And I heard Albert Breather this morning and I was
- 13:32Speaker 6: actually thinking this. He must have read my mind, kind
- 13:36Speaker 6: of like the Adam Thielen role on how he's sort
- 13:39Speaker 6: of performed for Bryce Young, which it's not working there
- 13:44Speaker 6: because really that's their number one guy. That's the best
- 13:48Speaker 6: thing that the Panthers have, so they're kind of limited.
- 13:51Speaker 6: But if you could get a couple of really good
- 13:53Speaker 6: receivers and have what you're talking about Mike as the
- 13:56Speaker 6: veteran presence, and all of a sudden, he's, you know,
- 13:58Speaker 6: a complimentary piece. I like the idea of Cooper Cupp.
- 14:02Speaker 6: I don't think it'd cost you a whole lot to
- 14:03Speaker 6: get them.
- 14:03Speaker 2: So it's like twenty million or something like that.
- 14:05Speaker 6: Well, I don't know what the money is, but you know,
- 14:07Speaker 6: as you know, I'm very consistent. I don't really care
- 14:10Speaker 6: about that part.
- 14:10Speaker 2: You can do the.
- 14:11Speaker 6: Finances on your time, but I don't think you're going
- 14:14Speaker 6: to have to give up resources to get you know,
- 14:16Speaker 6: maybe a day three pickswap. You know, maybe I'll give you,
- 14:20Speaker 6: you know, a fifth for you a sixth or something
- 14:22Speaker 6: like that to get Cooper. It's not gonna cost you
- 14:24Speaker 6: a whole lot.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Said, they're gonna trade them.
- 14:27Speaker 6: So if I had, say, like t Higgins and Hawkins,
- 14:33Speaker 6: who is that that's the outside guy from Iowa State
- 14:35Speaker 6: to the outside guy.
- 14:36Speaker 7: He gets it in they're both Higgins, which would be
- 14:38Speaker 7: a little confusing.
- 14:39Speaker 6: Okay, So I'm more interested in the outside guy from
- 14:43Speaker 6: Iowa State than I am another sort of inside guy
- 14:45Speaker 6: that I feel like they have seventy five options and
- 14:47Speaker 6: none of them are really all that great. But with that,
- 14:51Speaker 6: with really good receivers, I like the idea of Cup
- 14:54Speaker 6: bringing Cup here to just sort of say, oh, we
- 14:57Speaker 6: got Cooper Cup now, like it's twenty twenty one. That's
- 14:59Speaker 6: not gonna work.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Yeah, what about what's the cost of bringing in Garrett?
- 15:04Speaker 2: And a lot of people have used Khalil Mack as
- 15:09Speaker 2: you know, the sort of line of drawn that would take,
- 15:14Speaker 2: like when Mack was traded though he was younger, right,
- 15:17Speaker 2: he was a couple of years young a couple of
- 15:18Speaker 2: years younger, but it was a boatload to get him.
- 15:21Speaker 2: And and people think that Miles Garrett's better.
- 15:24Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I do wonder if, like with Miles Garrett,
- 15:29Speaker 7: I'm more interested in him than Cooper Cup. I think
- 15:31Speaker 7: Cooper Cup is pretty much washed at this point. He
- 15:34Speaker 7: hasn't he hasn't has washed. He hasn't had a full
- 15:37Speaker 7: season in three years, like he's.
- 15:39Speaker 6: He's missed at least five games the last three years.
- 15:41Speaker 7: Yeah, he's expensive. Obviously you can renegotiate contracts and all
- 15:46Speaker 7: that good stuff, which I'm sure he will. But he
- 15:48Speaker 7: also said in his statement that he's really only interested
- 15:50Speaker 7: in going to a contender situation, Like I love the
- 15:53Speaker 7: idea and theory of him being this like veteran mentor
- 15:56Speaker 7: to a younger room and all that. I just what's
- 15:59Speaker 7: what's in that for Cooper Cup Like totally wall, I
- 16:02Speaker 7: don't really see his side of that. But with Miles Garrett,
- 16:06Speaker 7: it's the same situation, Like he obviously wants out of
- 16:09Speaker 7: Cleveland because they can't win anything, so he wants to
- 16:11Speaker 7: go to a better program and a better situation. But
- 16:15Speaker 7: I would be more interested in him, and I wonder
- 16:17Speaker 7: if you could maybe throw a current player into the
- 16:22Speaker 7: trade so it's not quite as much draft capitals exactly.
- 16:29Speaker 6: If you're gonna do that joke, right, it's the Dodgers. Okay,
- 16:32Speaker 6: that's that's the Twitter joke is the Dodgers signed.
- 16:37Speaker 7: Um, he's right about the Lakers too, But yeah, I
- 16:40Speaker 7: would say that. I'd, you know, maybe instead of having
- 16:43Speaker 7: to throw in like multiple picks, you're throwing in a
- 16:47Speaker 7: couple picks, and like key On White is in the trade,
- 16:51Speaker 7: you know, just someone that Rabel might view as not
- 16:54Speaker 7: his type of player. Not saying that that's key On
- 16:56Speaker 7: White specifically, is just an example that isn't going to
- 16:59Speaker 7: be part of the future now that the scheme's changing,
- 17:02Speaker 7: the coaching staff's changing. Yeah, maybe you can. You can
- 17:05Speaker 7: dump one of them.
- 17:05Speaker 2: So even though these two guys, you know, one says
- 17:08Speaker 2: he's going to be traded, the other one requesting a trade,
- 17:11Speaker 2: you technically you can't talk to them yet, right the Well.
- 17:14Speaker 6: It depends if the team's allowed that.
- 17:16Speaker 2: I guess you have to get permission from the team.
- 17:18Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 6: My guess is Cleveland isn't in that position yet, but
- 17:21Speaker 6: the Rams might be. If the Rams are really interested
- 17:23Speaker 6: in trading him, yep, that's their goal is to trade him,
- 17:27Speaker 6: then why wouldn't you give Cubs representatives and why do
- 17:32Speaker 6: they want to trade him just to offload his salary?
- 17:35Speaker 7: Toast?
- 17:36Speaker 2: Yeah, he's not toast. He might be injured, but when
- 17:39Speaker 2: he's out there, he doesn't. Okay, lately he's okay, He's
- 17:44Speaker 2: not toast.
- 17:45Speaker 7: He's he's anything. For a couple of years, he's in
- 17:49Speaker 7: the toaster. Like, I don't know if he's done, but
- 17:51Speaker 7: he's warming.
- 17:52Speaker 4: You're only the first setting. It's like lightly brown.
- 17:55Speaker 2: What was his numbers the last three games for the Rams?
- 17:59Speaker 2: Look at that, I noticed them.
- 18:02Speaker 4: I noticed them too, though, I mean I hear what
- 18:04Speaker 4: you're saying, and I thought, you know, he's come through
- 18:06Speaker 4: in some moments and kind of goes back to what
- 18:07Speaker 4: I talked about watching the playoffs. We're like, you can't
- 18:10Speaker 4: have just all number ones, like you need some number
- 18:12Speaker 4: fours that are gonna make some tough catches. Not to
- 18:14Speaker 4: say that's him, but I also just think all this
- 18:16Speaker 4: discussion makes me wonder about the ability to bring guys
- 18:19Speaker 4: in no matter how much you can pay them. And
- 18:21Speaker 4: you know that's a big thing with t Higgins right
- 18:22Speaker 4: now that everybody's saying, why would you want to go?
- 18:24Speaker 6: I'll go from December on. Okay, okay. He had three
- 18:28Speaker 6: for seventeen December first at New Orleans. He had five
- 18:31Speaker 6: for ninety two in a touchdown. December eighth against Buffalo
- 18:35Speaker 6: zero for zero. My guess is he did not play
- 18:38Speaker 6: in that game. December twelfth against San Francisco. December twenty
- 18:43Speaker 6: second against the Jets, three for twenty four, December twenty
- 18:46Speaker 6: ninth against Arizona, one for twenty nine, playoff game against
- 18:50Speaker 6: Minnesota again one for twenty nine, and the loss to
- 18:54Speaker 6: Philadelphia and the Division round five for sixty one.
- 18:57Speaker 2: So he had two games in there that he was
- 18:59Speaker 2: fairly pretty.
- 19:03Speaker 6: I see one five for ninety two a touchdown.
- 19:05Speaker 2: The other what was it the last one six four.
- 19:08Speaker 6: Five five sixty yards?
- 19:10Speaker 2: Well, they could have been first down.
- 19:12Speaker 6: I got a bunch of those.
- 19:13Speaker 2: You need the context, I got a bunch of those.
- 19:15Speaker 6: Kendrick Bourn.
- 19:17Speaker 7: Yeah, he just doesn't separate on film the same way
- 19:20Speaker 7: as he did two or three years ago. I thought
- 19:22Speaker 7: that going into the Patriots Rams game this year, and
- 19:25Speaker 7: then obviously you send it all out blitz and he
- 19:27Speaker 7: goes sixty nine yards to the end zone. But he
- 19:29Speaker 7: had the rest of the game. He had that was
- 19:32Speaker 7: his one big play in the game, and the rest
- 19:34Speaker 7: of it.
- 19:34Speaker 6: Was six and two touchdowns in that.
- 19:37Speaker 4: Game, and sixty nine yards of him came on one play,
- 19:41Speaker 4: not toast against the So yeah.
- 19:43Speaker 6: I mean, like the last three year, I like Hooper
- 19:46Speaker 6: Cup as a player, and I think what Mike said
- 19:48Speaker 6: there might be some value there the way that you've
- 19:51Speaker 6: talked about a Mike as a mentor. But in twenty
- 19:55Speaker 6: twenty one, he was the last receiver that won the
- 19:57Speaker 6: Triple Crown before Jamar Chase just did. He had one
- 20:01Speaker 6: forty five for nineteen forty seven and sixteen touchdowns.
- 20:04Speaker 7: Yeah, great season.
- 20:05Speaker 6: Okay, he has seventeen touchdowns total since in three years,
- 20:11Speaker 6: seventy five for eight twelve, fifty nine for seven, thirty seven,
- 20:16Speaker 6: sixty seven for seven to ten. So the production has
- 20:19Speaker 6: dropped dramatically.
- 20:20Speaker 2: But I'll take six seven hundred yards from my fourth receiver.
- 20:24Speaker 6: Okay, Well, he's not going to be your fourth receiver?
- 20:26Speaker 7: Why not because you paying him twenty million dollars a year?
- 20:28Speaker 7: So what.
- 20:31Speaker 2: So, who don't care about the money? Who you say
- 20:33Speaker 2: you don't care about the money.
- 20:35Speaker 6: But uh see, I'm not talking about the money. You
- 20:37Speaker 6: said he's the fourth receiver if you brought him right now,
- 20:40Speaker 6: he's your one research.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Okay, but I'm not stopping there.
- 20:42Speaker 6: So who are your are the three that are better
- 20:44Speaker 6: than that?
- 20:44Speaker 2: I don't know. They're not on the roster right now. Okay,
- 20:47Speaker 2: they're not on the roster.
- 20:48Speaker 6: So you think it's realistic that they're going to acquire
- 20:50Speaker 6: three receivers.
- 20:52Speaker 2: At least one at least one through the draft.
- 20:54Speaker 6: Yes, but he's better than Cooper Cup.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Maybe maybe not. But Cooper Cup is not in tended
- 21:00Speaker 2: to be my one or two receiver.
- 21:02Speaker 6: And if that's the case, as I said, I'd be
- 21:04Speaker 6: interested in that. I think Mike's got some value there
- 21:07Speaker 6: with with sort of experience and mentorship. But my fear
- 21:12Speaker 6: would be whatever, and I think is fearing you're gonna
- 21:15Speaker 6: pay this guy whatever he's got left on his contracts,
- 21:18Speaker 6: that's gonna be our acquisition at the position. And that's
- 21:22Speaker 6: not good enough.
- 21:23Speaker 7: You're gonna end up having Cooper Cup. You'll take another
- 21:25Speaker 7: Dart in the draft, you know, at some point in
- 21:28Speaker 7: the top one hundred, and that those are your receiver acquisitions,
- 21:31Speaker 7: and that, to me isn't good enough. Like I'd much
- 21:33Speaker 7: rather pay t Higgins thirty instead of Cooper Cup at
- 21:36Speaker 7: thirty two years old twenty now.
- 21:38Speaker 6: T Higgins also misses a handful of games each season
- 21:42Speaker 6: the last few years.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Yep.
- 21:43Speaker 6: The difference to me is he's twenty five, not thirty two.
- 21:46Speaker 2: And he might want more than thirty, right, that's about.
- 21:50Speaker 6: What it's gonna cost, you think, So yeah, I mean
- 21:52Speaker 6: he might get I mean, he might get thirty two
- 21:54Speaker 6: or something like that, but he's not gonna get what
- 21:57Speaker 6: like Justin Jefferson got No, Well, that's thirty five, right,
- 22:01Speaker 6: I think, ish.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Yeah, but that was thirty five two years ago.
- 22:06Speaker 6: It was just what just happened.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Just last year. They just signed him for thirty justin Jefferson. Yeah,
- 22:12Speaker 2: signed before the season, right before the season. Okay, Yeah,
- 22:16Speaker 2: I just wonder if he's not at that Jamar Chase's
- 22:19Speaker 2: level of Cede Lambs level and just got the like
- 22:22Speaker 2: thirty five I think is the high end he Higgins
- 22:25Speaker 2: isn't that he's a notch below that. I agree with that.
- 22:28Speaker 6: But if he look, if he's looking for that, he's
- 22:31Speaker 6: not going to sign anywhere. Yeah, I don't.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Think, well, some team will do it.
- 22:35Speaker 7: I just wonder if that mentor, you know, I was
- 22:37Speaker 7: listening to Malik Neighbors talking about Darius Slayton who's a
- 22:41Speaker 7: free agent, and saying how big he was in his development.
- 22:45Speaker 7: The same thing as the professional in a room. And
- 22:48Speaker 7: if you're going to pay Darius Slayton twelve million dollars
- 22:51Speaker 7: to be the professional in the room and then you're
- 22:54Speaker 7: going to go out and spend some real money on
- 22:56Speaker 7: a receiver, I'd much rather do that than than trade
- 22:59Speaker 7: for for Cooper Cup and then you still got your
- 23:02Speaker 7: your mentor you know, you still got your your VET
- 23:04Speaker 7: in the room type of guy. I agree with that
- 23:06Speaker 7: point that their Vets in their room last year. We're
- 23:10Speaker 7: not Yeah, we're not Vets and they don't have enough
- 23:14Speaker 7: kJ Osborne.
- 23:15Speaker 2: It's Kendrick Bourne.
- 23:17Speaker 6: Yeah, and I would I would just say that as
- 23:21Speaker 6: long as you're going to do what you are suggesting, Fred,
- 23:24Speaker 6: get some high end talent at the position. I'm interested
- 23:27Speaker 6: in in these kinds of players, but not if that's
- 23:30Speaker 6: kind of what you know.
- 23:32Speaker 2: I agree with that, we're on the same page that
- 23:35Speaker 2: like Cooper.
- 23:35Speaker 6: Cup and I always have I think he's a good player.
- 23:37Speaker 6: I do think Evan's right. I think he's really really
- 23:40Speaker 6: approaching the end of the line. But I think there's
- 23:43Speaker 6: still some value there.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Pro Bowl anybody watch.
- 23:48Speaker 4: I watched the Thursday night skills with my kids. Drake
- 23:51Speaker 4: unfortunately didn't do so hot on that or either. I
- 23:54Speaker 4: think you got twenty two points, but I tuned.
- 23:57Speaker 2: I tuned in for a little bit on Sunday, probably
- 23:59Speaker 2: more than I should of It's it probably did decent
- 24:05Speaker 2: ratings compared to what else was on TV, but it's
- 24:09Speaker 2: just not that compelling for me. I mean, particularly the
- 24:11Speaker 2: flag football. The flag football game stinks. It's three plays,
- 24:15Speaker 2: you're in the red zone and then can you get
- 24:16Speaker 2: it in it's it's it's not even a good flag football.
- 24:21Speaker 6: Did Connor play flag football grow up?
- 24:23Speaker 2: No? He did not. That's flag football, Yeah, no, it isn't.
- 24:28Speaker 5: I know.
- 24:29Speaker 6: They're trying to revolutionize sports. Yeah, like they you know,
- 24:32Speaker 6: they want high school sports now to be you know,
- 24:34Speaker 6: boys and girls flag football is. You know, I heard
- 24:38Speaker 6: the commissioner talk about it yesterday, jims them the ginger hammer.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Uh.
- 24:44Speaker 6: You know, this is so exciting for us or we
- 24:46Speaker 6: have no I think Louisiana just you know past girls
- 24:50Speaker 6: flag football as a the Olympics and official high school sport.
- 24:55Speaker 6: He talked a lot about the Olympics. It's so exciting
- 24:57Speaker 6: that they're playing all these people playing our sports they're not.
- 25:00Speaker 2: It's not your sport. It's not football.
- 25:03Speaker 6: It's no different than like three on three basketball is basketball.
- 25:06Speaker 6: It's not the same sport. It's it's entirely different. And
- 25:11Speaker 6: my kids both played it. They loved it. It's just
- 25:16Speaker 6: not all that interesting.
- 25:17Speaker 2: It's not especially at this level when you see these
- 25:20Speaker 2: like amazing athletes, you know, playing flag football, it doesn't translate.
- 25:25Speaker 2: You know, the quarterbacks standing back there and you know,
- 25:28Speaker 2: he's got a time, he's got a clock by which
- 25:31Speaker 2: he has to throw it and like it's either completer
- 25:34Speaker 2: or it's not, and there's nothing else going on.
- 25:38Speaker 4: It's like it's like the review stuff. Like I just
- 25:40Speaker 4: I don't know what the answer is with the Football
- 25:41Speaker 4: All Star Game weekend. I mean, all the events seem
- 25:45Speaker 4: kind of contrived and choppy. You know, nothing's like smooth.
- 25:49Speaker 2: And I mean the punting thing was kind of fun,
- 25:52Speaker 2: but you only have you only have two guys competing
- 25:55Speaker 2: on each roster, you know.
- 25:57Speaker 6: Just so you know, if they can't get Evan to
- 25:58Speaker 6: watch it, yeah, well.
- 26:00Speaker 7: The ball knower's put our noses up.
- 26:01Speaker 4: I was just trying to get my kids to watch,
- 26:02Speaker 4: like that's yeah, that's what part of the reason they
- 26:04Speaker 4: watched it Thursday night. I was just curious if it
- 26:06Speaker 4: appealed to them and all they both played flag football,
- 26:09Speaker 4: but even they were saying, like catch this was eh,
- 26:13Speaker 4: not so great.
- 26:13Speaker 7: No, there's just nothing compelling to me about All Star
- 26:16Speaker 7: games across the board.
- 26:18Speaker 2: And as soon as they announced that Vita Veo was
- 26:20Speaker 2: on the Nationals tugle war team, it's like it's over.
- 26:24Speaker 2: They won, and of course they didn't, like they won
- 26:27Speaker 2: two straight and it was over, like you're not gonna
- 26:29Speaker 2: beat him tugle war.
- 26:30Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know what the answer is. I mean,
- 26:32Speaker 6: and I know that for me, I would just say
- 26:35Speaker 6: stop doing it. But I know they'll never do that
- 26:37Speaker 6: because I look at it as an opportunity to make
- 26:40Speaker 6: some more money.
- 26:41Speaker 2: I think the players that are down there are actually
- 26:43Speaker 2: having a good time. I think they're enjoying themselves.
- 26:45Speaker 7: It's just maybe it's just nostalgia, but the old Quarterback Challenge,
- 26:50Speaker 7: and we have video of Brady doing it, I think
- 26:52Speaker 7: in like a one or two right after they won
- 26:54Speaker 7: thirty six, so too, I guess of him doing it,
- 26:57Speaker 7: and it's like, but that was the star power participating
- 27:02Speaker 7: in that was always it was always the best of
- 27:06Speaker 7: the best quarterbacks, like Brady Manning. Dan Marino famously did
- 27:10Speaker 7: one where he just is unbelievable in it. And like
- 27:13Speaker 7: now it's just, you know, no offense to our guy
- 27:15Speaker 7: or anybody else. But like, it's not Patrick Mahomes that's
- 27:18Speaker 7: doing the Quarterbacks Challenge, it's Jared Goff and Drake May
- 27:23Speaker 7: And you.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Know, we will be more intriguing if they played softball,
- 27:27Speaker 2: it really would. I know they can't play beach volleyball
- 27:31Speaker 2: because you know, Robert Edwards, you know, but like do
- 27:35Speaker 2: something where you can actually compete hard, you know, like
- 27:40Speaker 2: like softball. You know, I don't know.
- 27:42Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know what the answer is.
- 27:45Speaker 7: It Like the NBA has a big problem with their
- 27:48Speaker 7: All Star weekend.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Oh that's ridiculous.
- 27:50Speaker 7: The dunk contest is dead. No one wants to do it.
- 27:53Speaker 7: The only thing that really is is good, and that
- 27:55Speaker 7: is the three point contest because you're just shooting, so
- 27:58Speaker 7: everybody is kind of willing to do that.
- 27:59Speaker 6: I generally try to see that it's fantastic and that's it.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:03Speaker 4: I think hockey else Star game is actually one that
- 28:05Speaker 4: works to me, Like.
- 28:06Speaker 6: Well, the game itself doesn't, but the skills, I think
- 28:10Speaker 6: hockey accuracy, yeah, the skill and like I I could
- 28:14Speaker 6: be talked into some of the skills stuff. I didn't
- 28:16Speaker 6: watch any of this with with football, but I think
- 28:19Speaker 6: that you could. You know, I assume that the quarterbacks
- 28:22Speaker 6: were thrown at targets of some sort. Yeah, yeah, I
- 28:24Speaker 6: mean I could probably if I was stumbling upon something.
- 28:28Speaker 4: That was the first part they did was the competition
- 28:30Speaker 4: where they had some stationary targets, then they had ones
- 28:32Speaker 4: way deep. I mean Jered goff was awesome. I mean
- 28:34Speaker 4: it was it was That was the only part to
- 28:36Speaker 4: me that was those I think.
- 28:37Speaker 6: It's amazing, Like when Fred and I were kids in
- 28:40Speaker 6: the seventies, like the Pro Bowl was an actual game.
- 28:44Speaker 6: I actually played it, and I just imagine, I can't imagine,
- 28:48Speaker 6: like why would you ever play that game for real?
- 28:52Speaker 4: But getting hurt right.
- 28:53Speaker 6: And Drew Brees got hurt in the prob I'm not
- 29:04Speaker 6: telling you no, I'm not telling you you're wrong. I
- 29:06Speaker 6: just don't recall anybody.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Except for Robert, except for Robert Edwards, the poor guy.
- 29:11Speaker 7: I feel like the skill competition right now is gimmicky
- 29:14Speaker 7: if they made it a little bit more legitimate like hockey,
- 29:18Speaker 7: like hockey is legitimate, translatable skill, hardest shot, fastest skater.
- 29:22Speaker 6: I went to the hockey skills competition back when the
- 29:26Speaker 6: Garden first opened, I want to say the late nineties.
- 29:30Speaker 6: It was. It was called the Fleet Center I think
- 29:32Speaker 6: at the time. But it was really a lot of
- 29:35Speaker 6: fun to watch, just the you know, the when they
- 29:39Speaker 6: when they're doing the like the the fastest skater, you
- 29:42Speaker 6: think they're gonna slam into the into the boards. They're
- 29:45Speaker 6: going so fast, you don't know how they could possibly
- 29:48Speaker 6: hold themselves up and make those turns and the agility
- 29:51Speaker 6: that they show, and like, like Mike said, the slap
- 29:53Speaker 6: shot Charra and the target you know Ray Borok used
- 29:57Speaker 6: to win the target thing, all, Yeah.
- 29:59Speaker 4: Of course they shot. He did, he did. I was right.
- 30:01Speaker 4: He located his right shoulder while you recover a fumble. No,
- 30:06Speaker 4: I well, just when the still Trapp doesn't called something
- 30:08Speaker 4: and you look at me with those wide eyes, I'm like,
- 30:09Speaker 4: oh God, I'm.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Trying to recover a fumble at the polo competitor.
- 30:14Speaker 6: I still don't have any recollection of that.
- 30:16Speaker 4: No, like his.
- 30:19Speaker 9: Oh, so, it.
- 30:19Speaker 6: Wasn't his rotator cuff. It wasn't the shoulder injury that
- 30:23Speaker 6: knocked him out of San Diego.
- 30:25Speaker 4: Now, it was a three hundred and sixty degree tear
- 30:27Speaker 4: of his labor I'm and a partial tear of his
- 30:28Speaker 4: rotator cuff. The injury threatened to end his NFL career.
- 30:32Speaker 7: Now, was that a Pro Bowl? Didn't realize that m.
- 30:36Speaker 6: Okay so seven would be the sixth season?
- 30:43Speaker 4: Yeah, O six season?
- 30:44Speaker 6: So maybe he was that Maybe that was nothing. I
- 30:47Speaker 6: didn't realize that that was a Pro Bowl.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't remember anyway, I remember the injury.
- 30:53Speaker 6: Now, I just had no recollection that I was at
- 30:55Speaker 6: a Pro Bowl.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, so so the Pro Bowl happened. Nobody's really
- 31:01Speaker 2: excited about that. So then we have the Super Bowl
- 31:05Speaker 2: coming up. We've got the Eagles chief. Wow, I'm excited
- 31:08Speaker 2: to watch.
- 31:09Speaker 6: I think now that I'll watch Freddy. I think it
- 31:12Speaker 6: could be much like everybody else in the country, even
- 31:15Speaker 6: though people say that they won't.
- 31:16Speaker 2: I think it will be a good game. I think
- 31:18Speaker 2: both teams, believe it or not. I think it could
- 31:20Speaker 2: be a low scoring game.
- 31:21Speaker 6: Actually define low scoring.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Well, tell me what the number is. I don't know
- 31:26Speaker 2: what the over under is, but it just tell me
- 31:28Speaker 2: what it could come under. It could come under.
- 31:32Speaker 6: I could see like high twenties to low twenties, something
- 31:35Speaker 6: like that.
- 31:35Speaker 4: In Kansas City.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Thirty eight forty eight eight pound the under pound the under.
- 31:45Speaker 6: I think that's a good number, like twenty seven to
- 31:47Speaker 6: twenty three, something along those those lines.
- 31:51Speaker 7: I wonder if it opens up in the fourth quarter,
- 31:52Speaker 7: because I can see generally what happens in.
- 31:54Speaker 9: The Super bowls.
- 31:55Speaker 4: Yes, he's get gassed.
- 31:56Speaker 6: Tom Brady's theory was always that the defenses get tired.
- 31:59Speaker 6: They do get tired and the offense has an advantage.
- 32:02Speaker 4: But you got to take Mahomes in that situation unfortunately.
- 32:06Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I mean, like I think that's happened in
- 32:10Speaker 6: almost all of Mahomes's super The offense doesn't look like
- 32:14Speaker 6: it's doing Any defense is tired.
- 32:15Speaker 4: It's not that good. I mean, all the defenses get tired.
- 32:18Speaker 2: All of Paul's shows now are doing the comparison between
- 32:21Speaker 2: the Patriots and and they're you know, they're trying to
- 32:25Speaker 2: bait Patriots fans, But I think it's a legitimate discussion.
- 32:29Speaker 2: And I heard them talking about Brady versus Mahomes. If
- 32:32Speaker 2: you had one game to win, who would you pick?
- 32:36Speaker 6: Brady?
- 32:37Speaker 4: Yeah, Tom Brady just realistic.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Yeah, let me ask you another question, if you had
- 32:43Speaker 2: one play, who would you pick? What do I need
- 32:46Speaker 2: you need to it's a game on the line, but
- 32:49Speaker 2: play from where like you're in the red zone or
- 32:53Speaker 2: like within the ten yard line.
- 32:54Speaker 6: Brady, If it's like the twenty five and I need
- 32:58Speaker 6: someone to like just make a ridiculus athletic play, maybe
- 33:01Speaker 6: I'll go Mahomes there like that, But but like a
- 33:03Speaker 6: regular play that I can I need my guy to
- 33:06Speaker 6: decipher what the defense is doing and make the right
- 33:08Speaker 6: call and make the throw accurately on time.
- 33:12Speaker 4: Brady.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Ye see, I might pick Mahomes and Mahomes, and I
- 33:18Speaker 2: might pick my homes only because the way the league
- 33:21Speaker 2: is now, I want somebody, buddy who has that dual
- 33:23Speaker 2: threat with one play to go, like, no matter what happens,
- 33:27Speaker 2: he can maybe bail himself out, you know.
- 33:32Speaker 6: A good good counter.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:34Speaker 4: I wonder how long do we have to do this?
- 33:36Speaker 4: Like is this is this forever?
- 33:38Speaker 6: Until then you can you can actively the ten years
- 33:43Speaker 6: like barroom debates, I'm not here.
- 33:46Speaker 4: No. The fact that I.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Still think that even if the Chiefs do the three
- 33:53Speaker 2: p right, I still think as of that time, the
- 33:57Speaker 2: Patriots dynasty will be better because of its duration. And
- 34:01Speaker 2: of course there will be Yeah, the Patriots have done
- 34:04Speaker 2: still had done nothing that the Chiefs did, even though
- 34:07Speaker 2: doing three in a row is something the Patriots hadn't done.
- 34:10Speaker 6: And the only thing that you would say is that
- 34:12Speaker 6: the Chiefs were if they were to win Sunday or
- 34:15Speaker 6: ahead of the pace, even lose, even losing their ahead.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Of the PA, they're ahead of the pace and that's great.
- 34:22Speaker 6: But the duration of the that's to me it's.
- 34:25Speaker 2: I would say the Patriots dynasty is a greater feat
- 34:29Speaker 2: than anything that the Chiefs can do up to this point.
- 34:32Speaker 2: But like you said, they're on pace to the pace.
- 34:35Speaker 6: They've been to more super Bowls and a less amount
- 34:37Speaker 6: of time.
- 34:38Speaker 2: They're on pace to do better, but they need to
- 34:42Speaker 2: do it for you another fifteen years.
- 34:44Speaker 4: Like anyway that twenty thirty four, Patrick Mahomes is back
- 34:47Speaker 4: in the super Bowl, Like this.
- 34:50Speaker 6: Is the argument that you fell into this, This is
- 34:52Speaker 6: kind of what started our freaking them.
- 34:54Speaker 4: And you might like about Josh mctanias. Again, I don't care.
- 34:57Speaker 6: There's nothing in the rules that says that Mahomes has
- 34:59Speaker 6: to take.
- 34:59Speaker 4: A ten gap.
- 35:00Speaker 6: Yeah, so that's what I would like if this is
- 35:04Speaker 6: important to you, and I'll come up front and it's
- 35:08Speaker 6: not overly important to me, because nothing that Kansas City
- 35:11Speaker 6: can do will tell me that what I saw the
- 35:13Speaker 6: Patriots do for twenty years didn't really happen. Much like
- 35:17Speaker 6: if I were a Steelers fan, nothing the Patriots did
- 35:21Speaker 6: changed anything that Pittsburgh did when winning four out of
- 35:24Speaker 6: six in the seventies. So I would just say that
- 35:27Speaker 6: that's what I would fear if I did care about it.
- 35:30Speaker 6: Is that Mahomes doesn't take a ten year gap and
- 35:33Speaker 6: he wins three more in that ten years, and all
- 35:36Speaker 6: of a sudden, he doesn't need to do it for
- 35:38Speaker 6: twenty years.
- 35:39Speaker 4: That's what's really interesting, Paul, the comparison of how close
- 35:42Speaker 4: Brady came a lot of times in those ten years,
- 35:44Speaker 4: or he lost a whole year to injury, you know,
- 35:46Speaker 4: like he the luck started.
- 35:48Speaker 6: To seven and eleven, they lost super Bowls.
- 35:50Speaker 4: You know, the luck started to change a little bit.
- 35:53Speaker 4: They stopped getting those bounces, they started having off playoff games.
- 35:56Speaker 4: You know, is that Kansas City's credit that hasn't.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Really happened to this one year he didn't play.
- 36:01Speaker 4: Yeah, it's I mean, I know they got housed in
- 36:04Speaker 4: twenty twenty. Maybe that's as you know, close as you
- 36:06Speaker 4: can get with you know, him going against Tampa. But
- 36:09Speaker 4: they're still right in the mix. And to do it.
- 36:11Speaker 4: You know, I know Brady had Manning and Philip you know,
- 36:15Speaker 4: there was some good talent in the AFC, but you know,
- 36:18Speaker 4: you're doing a time with Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson. Guys
- 36:20Speaker 4: were very good.
- 36:21Speaker 6: It's really impressive.
- 36:22Speaker 4: You really have to.
- 36:22Speaker 6: I think it's more reminiscent of the first part, because
- 36:25Speaker 6: I thought it was a much more difficult.
- 36:27Speaker 4: Road double MVPs, like.
- 36:30Speaker 6: Four, they had a deal with Manning and Roethlisberger and
- 36:36Speaker 6: McNair and people forget that team all the time, and
- 36:39Speaker 6: how good that Tennessee team was defense, you know, and
- 36:42Speaker 6: then periodically as that went on, it was you know,
- 36:45Speaker 6: San Diego was a powerhouse in six, that fourteen and
- 36:50Speaker 6: two team that the Patriots beat in the division round
- 36:52Speaker 6: on the road. So I think this is comparable to that.
- 36:56Speaker 6: I think the second part of it, I mean kind
- 36:59Speaker 6: of feasting on kind of you know, how many how
- 37:01Speaker 6: many divisions around? The divisional round game from one to
- 37:06Speaker 6: seven was not a cupcake the way it turned into
- 37:10Speaker 6: from like thirteen, twelve, thirty. The Tim Tebow Broncos, right,
- 37:15Speaker 6: you know, the Marcus Mariota Titans, those teams were not
- 37:18Speaker 6: you know, the brock Oswiler Texans. Those teams couldn't beat
- 37:22Speaker 6: You couldn't beat anybody.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Even Jacksonville, who gave us a scare. That wasn't that
- 37:27Speaker 2: good a team.
- 37:28Speaker 6: Well that particular year, I thought they were pretty good.
- 37:30Speaker 6: But yeah, I think the first part of the dynasty,
- 37:34Speaker 6: the road to get there, was much more difficult than
- 37:36Speaker 6: the second part. Oh yeah, but it's also a whole
- 37:39Speaker 6: different game too, Like just look at how offensive some
- 37:41Speaker 6: of those those games were as compared to early when
- 37:44Speaker 6: it was more defensive oriented. Yeah, that's the other thing too,
- 37:49Speaker 6: that the Patriots get to get credit for. They kind
- 37:51Speaker 6: of won in two different errors, almost two different styles.
- 37:56Speaker 6: You know. Can can Kansas City do that? Can they adjust?
- 38:00Speaker 6: My guess is yes, But like the did, I don't
- 38:03Speaker 6: have to think.
- 38:04Speaker 2: I think the Chiefs have adjusted a little bit even now.
- 38:07Speaker 2: I mean they are they invested more on defense than
- 38:11Speaker 2: they did offense, and you know, they're letting Mahomes cover
- 38:16Speaker 2: up the wards, much like the Patriots did with Brady,
- 38:20Speaker 2: you know. And then the other debate is Gronk versus Kelsey.
- 38:28Speaker 2: I think Gronk had the problem with injuries. I think
- 38:31Speaker 2: if he hadn't been injured so much, his numbers would
- 38:34Speaker 2: obviously be even even greater than they are.
- 38:37Speaker 6: It is scary how similar the numbers are.
- 38:39Speaker 2: In the playoffs. But Kelsey has better numbers in the pick,
- 38:43Speaker 2: doesn't he?
- 38:43Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean in terms of like catches, but like
- 38:46Speaker 6: the record is almost the same in the same amount
- 38:49Speaker 6: of games. It's like seventeen and four and eighteen and
- 38:53Speaker 6: five or something like that.
- 38:55Speaker 2: And then the final comparison Andy Reid and Belichick.
- 39:00Speaker 6: You know, uh, you know, out of all of them,
- 39:02Speaker 6: I think that's the one if you were just died
- 39:04Speaker 6: in the wild Patriots guy, that's the one I would
- 39:06Speaker 6: feel the worst about. I think Reid's gonna pass him.
- 39:11Speaker 2: In terms of just strictly wins. Yeah, but what about
- 39:15Speaker 2: like who's the better coach?
- 39:16Speaker 6: What do you think think that that's the one that
- 39:18Speaker 6: you have to worry about the most.
- 39:19Speaker 4: Yeah, But I always I love to I like to
- 39:22Speaker 4: throw the context in of as you said, Fred, the
- 39:24Speaker 4: league has evolved, and I think it's evolved towards Andy
- 39:26Speaker 4: Reid and offensive coach and you know, Bill really made
- 39:30Speaker 4: their great dynasty run. As Paul pointed out in that
- 39:32Speaker 4: first part of the two thousands, where it was about defense,
- 39:35Speaker 4: it was you know, he was the defensive genius. I mean,
- 39:37Speaker 4: Baryon's calling him a genius, you know, So I just
- 39:40Speaker 4: I think that that's a factor in the conversation. I
- 39:43Speaker 4: also would just throw out there the fact that I
- 39:45Speaker 4: don't think the league's gonna have a you know, unkind
- 39:48Speaker 4: word to say about Andy Reid at the end of this.
- 39:50Speaker 4: And I think there are a lot of people with
- 39:51Speaker 4: how it went with Bill here, with some of the
- 39:52Speaker 4: controversies that went down that that unfortunately shaded some of
- 39:56Speaker 4: his legacy a little bit. You know, It's just there's
- 39:58Speaker 4: no way around it. And Andy Reid, I know there
- 40:00Speaker 4: are some off the field issues for him as well,
- 40:02Speaker 4: but I just feel like everyone really pulls him up
- 40:06Speaker 4: on kind of a pal who.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Doesn't like Andy Reid?
- 40:09Speaker 6: Right, Yeah? And I would also say, just just to
- 40:15Speaker 6: you know, in the comparison, I think Andy Reid has
- 40:18Speaker 6: some success that Belichick doesn't without the star.
- 40:23Speaker 2: Right right. I mean Donovan McNabb was a good quarterback,
- 40:27Speaker 2: but he wasn't stiff. Yeah, he stiff.
- 40:30Speaker 6: Stiff? Come on, how do you do without Andy Reid?
- 40:33Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 40:33Speaker 6: But he was terrible in Washington and Minnesota.
- 40:36Speaker 7: But he's terrible.
- 40:36Speaker 2: He was a decent quarterback. He wasn't a stiff. He
- 40:39Speaker 2: wasn't a stiff.
- 40:40Speaker 6: Agreed to disagree, but I think he was a stiff.
- 40:42Speaker 2: But but you can make the argument that Andy Reid
- 40:44Speaker 2: made him better.
- 40:46Speaker 6: Oh, I think that's inarguable.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Yeah, so he did. Andy Reid had more non Chiefs
- 40:54Speaker 2: success than Belichick had, you know, not Tom Brady.
- 40:57Speaker 6: Belichick won one playoff game without breeding like Andy Reid
- 41:01Speaker 6: has like thirteen yeah, or eleven double digits whatever it is, yep,
- 41:07Speaker 6: without Mahomes. Yeah, Mahomes says.
- 41:10Speaker 4: How old is any read? Though? I mean how is he?
- 41:11Speaker 4: I mean, does he got twenty thirties in him?
- 41:14Speaker 6: Like he got another seven twenty thirties?
- 41:16Speaker 4: Like is he gonna you know, I'm saying if we're
- 41:18Speaker 4: talking about longevity, but he only needs.
- 41:19Speaker 6: Three more years to six He only needs three more
- 41:21Speaker 6: years to set the record.
- 41:24Speaker 7: Like twelve with the wins record.
- 41:26Speaker 4: Yeah, oh okay, I just I was just talking championships.
- 41:29Speaker 6: Is she gonna beat three and a half years? Maybe?
- 41:31Speaker 2: But he did. Reid did say he's not going to
- 41:33Speaker 2: be coaching in the seventies like Bill Belichick. I don't
- 41:36Speaker 2: believe he's heard that. I'm only kidding. I'm only kidding.
- 41:40Speaker 4: She's Phil's already got two munch drafts out whatever the
- 41:43Speaker 4: end of the season.
- 41:44Speaker 2: But no, but like, yeah, so he needs about three
- 41:46Speaker 2: years to catch Bill and you know, make the kiss.
- 41:50Speaker 2: He'll probably coach long point?
- 41:52Speaker 4: Could I mean? I like Bill burst joke when he
- 41:55Speaker 4: was a Brady Knights Andy reads too fat. That was
- 41:59Speaker 4: my one of my favorite line from Brady Knight.
- 42:02Speaker 7: One of your favorite lines.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Yes, good, laugh, good chuckle, all right? Eight five five
- 42:07Speaker 2: past five hundred. Is the TPX Outline podcast at Patriots
- 42:11Speaker 2: dot com. Is the email address? Anything else we want
- 42:15Speaker 2: to get on the table.
- 42:16Speaker 6: Before we setting the table there, Freddie touched on a
- 42:19Speaker 6: lot of topics.
- 42:20Speaker 2: We said a lot. Let's go to the listeners see
- 42:23Speaker 2: what they had to say. Christians in LA, what's up,
- 42:26Speaker 2: Christian Hey?
- 42:28Speaker 10: Because I knew you guys a couple of things. One
- 42:31Speaker 10: thing about the Andy Reid versus Bill that Effect debate
- 42:34Speaker 10: is one Andy Reid didn't stay with the Philadelphia Eagles
- 42:39Speaker 10: and remake them into a better team. He went to
- 42:42Speaker 10: another team that had Alex Smith, who kept them relevant
- 42:45Speaker 10: and was borderline a championship quarterback himself. So it wasn't
- 42:49Speaker 10: like Andy Reid lost his main you know, we lost
- 42:53Speaker 10: Brady and.
- 42:53Speaker 6: Then Andy Reid got fired in Philadelphia. It wasn't his
- 42:57Speaker 6: choice to leave, much like it wasn't Old Belichick's choice
- 43:01Speaker 6: to leave Cleveland or Patriots, ye right, or the Patriots.
- 43:04Speaker 11: We have to take the fact that Andy Reid went
- 43:06Speaker 11: to a different team that had relevant players and was
- 43:09Speaker 11: pretty you know, pretty much a season team.
- 43:12Speaker 10: It wasn't like going back to starting from zero like Bill.
- 43:15Speaker 7: Had given a lot of credit hold Police, Okay, it's
- 43:21Speaker 7: given a little bit of a lot of credit to
- 43:22Speaker 7: Alex Smith. There.
- 43:23Speaker 6: Christian Kansas City sucked the year before Andy Reid got there.
- 43:29Speaker 6: I believe they were two and fourteen. I believe that
- 43:31Speaker 6: was the team he inherited. But I'm going to look
- 43:33Speaker 6: it up because I don't want to Okay, I don't
- 43:35Speaker 6: want to misspeak if I'm wrong.
- 43:38Speaker 11: Second thing, I've been reading a lot and a lot
- 43:40Speaker 11: of school of thought are saying this, and I just
- 43:42Speaker 11: want to see what you guys think of it.
- 43:44Speaker 10: We pick up Travis.
- 43:46Speaker 11: Hunter repair with Christian Gonzalees. That then has an effect
- 43:50Speaker 11: of having other teams have to hold the ball longer,
- 43:55Speaker 11: which then helps our past rush get to them, which
- 43:58Speaker 11: then gives us more of essions on offense, which didn't
- 44:01Speaker 11: help our offense offensive offensive line. The one player, So
- 44:06Speaker 11: it has a domino effect, Right, you put this great
- 44:09Speaker 11: guy on defense, you pairing with another great cornerback, and
- 44:11Speaker 11: that really does have an effect on.
- 44:13Speaker 10: How the rest of the game flow. Well, sure, you
- 44:15Speaker 10: guys agree with that.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, any great player is going to have
- 44:18Speaker 2: a domino effect on everything. Yep, you know so.
- 44:21Speaker 5: And I was right.
- 44:22Speaker 6: The Chiefs were two and fourteen the year before we
- 44:24Speaker 6: got there.
- 44:24Speaker 2: But thanks for the call, Christian.
- 44:25Speaker 7: Yeah, you can make that argument. A great pass rusher,
- 44:29Speaker 7: it's going to make it easier on the secondary. He's
- 44:31Speaker 7: going to get home, you know so.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Now, speaking of speaking of Travis Huster Hunter, Phil Perry
- 44:37Speaker 2: from NBC Sports Boston came out with his mock draft
- 44:40Speaker 2: yesterday and he had two point zero and he had
- 44:44Speaker 2: the two quarterbacks going two and three, which not Travis
- 44:47Speaker 2: Hunter down to number four.
- 44:50Speaker 6: So I wanted to get to that in Evans's Senior
- 44:53Speaker 6: Bowl stuff because that's really the quarterback stuff to me,
- 44:56Speaker 6: is most relevant for the Patriots. Yeah, and just your fear.
- 45:00Speaker 6: I don't know if you talk to anybody. I know
- 45:01Speaker 6: you talked to vrabel Wolf in Cowed, and I don't
- 45:04Speaker 6: know if you in your conversations, did you get a
- 45:07Speaker 6: feel as to the level of confidence from anybody that
- 45:11Speaker 6: any of those quarterbacks will go in the top three.
- 45:15Speaker 6: I would yeah, I would.
- 45:17Speaker 7: Say cam Ward has maybe a little bit more love
- 45:19Speaker 7: than we initially thought, or that it was initially out there.
- 45:23Speaker 7: I think there's a lot of people that are pretty
- 45:25Speaker 7: high on on cam Ward being not in the Kaleb
- 45:29Speaker 7: of Jaden Daniels, Drake May category, but in the first
- 45:32Speaker 7: round talent category at quarterback, and then Shador. My takeaway
- 45:37Speaker 7: with Shador is that it's a lot of it is
- 45:40Speaker 7: also about branding, right, Like, if you're the New York
- 45:42Speaker 7: Giants and you really want to make a splash, and
- 45:44Speaker 7: you really want to bring a name brand and the
- 45:47Speaker 7: whole Sanders thing to New York, then it can be appealing.
- 45:51Speaker 7: I don't think that he personally would go if his
- 45:54Speaker 7: last name was Smith instead of Sanders. I'm not sure
- 45:57Speaker 7: he's in this conversation, but you know, I would say
- 46:01Speaker 7: that Sanders is being more compared to like the Bonixes
- 46:04Speaker 7: of the world, like mid first round talent. Cam Ward
- 46:08Speaker 7: is a little bit more toolsy with a little bit
- 46:10Speaker 7: more upside. So maybe there's a little bit more.
- 46:13Speaker 2: But if you're a Patriots Travis Hunter Dreamer, yeah, both
- 46:17Speaker 2: of those guys have to go through two or three
- 46:20Speaker 2: in order for you to have a shot at Travis
- 46:21Speaker 2: Hunter presumably.
- 46:23Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it's yeah, it's it's really early, but
- 46:26Speaker 7: I would say it's not totally out of the realm
- 46:27Speaker 7: of possibility that that could happen. The Titans at one
- 46:31Speaker 7: are interesting because they said, oh, we're not going to
- 46:33Speaker 7: pass on a generational talent, but like that's vague, Like
- 46:35Speaker 7: what's a generational talent?
- 46:36Speaker 2: Whoever?
- 46:37Speaker 6: We pick week D right, And I don't think there's
- 46:39Speaker 6: a generational talent.
- 46:40Speaker 7: Right, So if you deem it that there isn't, then
- 46:42Speaker 7: like they might just default to the best quarterback, which
- 46:45Speaker 7: would be probably cam Ward, So there could be a
- 46:47Speaker 7: quarterback still that goes first.
- 46:49Speaker 2: A lot of people are assuming that's a dual.
- 46:51Speaker 7: Carter, Yeah, I mean, I don't know if he's generational though,
- 46:55Speaker 7: like you know, I think that's that's I would say
- 46:58Speaker 7: that just by definition, Travis Hunter is more generational than
- 47:02Speaker 7: Abdul Carter is because we've never seen somebody in like
- 47:06Speaker 7: fifty sixty years played both sides of the ball at
- 47:08Speaker 7: that level that he did last year for Colorado. We've
- 47:12Speaker 7: seen pass rushers like you know, Abdul Carter is, Michael Parsons, like,
- 47:15Speaker 7: we've seen guys like that.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Let's go to Patty and agawam. What's up Patty? Everyone?
- 47:23Speaker 8: Hey, Hey, I got a few things. First off, Fritt,
- 47:26Speaker 8: can I can I tip pick to you again this.
- 47:29Speaker 2: Year in the draft in the first round? Kenny?
- 47:31Speaker 6: What can you?
- 47:33Speaker 8: What can you in the first round?
- 47:35Speaker 2: Tip pick tip? Yeah? I don't care. I don't know.
- 47:40Speaker 2: I hate that. I would rather have it whenever, you know,
- 47:43Speaker 2: But I get it. Everyone finds out the pick like
- 47:46Speaker 2: five minutes before it's announced on TV.
- 47:49Speaker 8: So the other thing is just regarding the Super Bowl.
- 47:53Speaker 8: I don't have a problem with the Chiefs one, and
- 47:56Speaker 8: I guess some of an anomaly amongst the Patriots fans
- 47:59Speaker 8: like I I enjoyed watching greatness and I think Brett
- 48:04Speaker 8: you said last week, like player two to fifty three,
- 48:07Speaker 8: the Eagles are probably the better team, but the big
- 48:09Speaker 8: Darrie hole is the number one guy in the roster
- 48:12Speaker 8: and the head coach matchups.
- 48:15Speaker 10: So I don't care. Like I hate, I hate the Eagles.
- 48:17Speaker 10: I hate Eagles fans.
- 48:18Speaker 8: I hope they lose, But to me, I just I
- 48:22Speaker 8: don't know.
- 48:23Speaker 12: Man.
- 48:23Speaker 8: I can see them sort of dominating the defensive line
- 48:26Speaker 8: of scrimmage with Joe Toney having to play left tackles,
- 48:31Speaker 8: and they line Carter up over that left guard. It
- 48:34Speaker 8: might be a long day for them.
- 48:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you. I think I think that defensive
- 48:38Speaker 2: line for the Eagles could be a difference maker.
- 48:40Speaker 7: On both sides. I think their offensive line, Yeah, they
- 48:43Speaker 7: could easily win this game in the trenches.
- 48:45Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, that's all I got, all right, Patty.
- 48:50Speaker 6: You know, he described himself as maybe an anomaly and
- 48:52Speaker 6: Pagriots fans. Based on my very unscientific research, I would
- 48:57Speaker 6: agree most Pages fans are strongly rooting for the Eagles.
- 49:00Speaker 2: I am too, but just you know, obviously so they
- 49:03Speaker 2: don't have the three P Yeah.
- 49:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I almost want to this clean game without any
- 49:08Speaker 4: stupid referee controversy more than I want to win.
- 49:12Speaker 6: I just don't want just here for the comp your guy,
- 49:15Speaker 6: the sanctity of the.
- 49:16Speaker 2: Your guy saying refereeing may not have ever been better.
- 49:19Speaker 2: He thinks it's fine.
- 49:19Speaker 6: The ginger hammer just a no, no, not.
- 49:22Speaker 2: The ginger hammer.
- 49:24Speaker 6: Oh he's out of his mind.
- 49:26Speaker 2: Oh whoa.
- 49:28Speaker 6: That's like that argument that he did yesterday, you know,
- 49:31Speaker 6: backing up what Goodell said, Yeah, is insane, inscrually insane.
- 49:36Speaker 6: If you watch these games and you think the officiating
- 49:38Speaker 6: has never been better now. You want to tell me
- 49:40Speaker 6: it's the reaction is way over the top because of
- 49:46Speaker 6: how the quality of camera work and the HD and
- 49:49Speaker 6: all this stuff that we didn't have access to, you know,
- 49:53Speaker 6: thirty years ago. Right, that's fine that I'll listen to.
- 49:56Speaker 6: But don't tell me that the quality of the officiating
- 49:58Speaker 6: is better now. The job is infinitely harder because everything
- 50:03Speaker 6: is so much fatter.
- 50:03Speaker 2: That's kind of his point.
- 50:05Speaker 6: But don't but don't tell me it's better. Yeah, it's
- 50:08Speaker 6: not better. These guys are ill equipped to keep up
- 50:12Speaker 6: for the most part. It can't even spot the ball.
- 50:14Speaker 6: I mean, I don't think spotting the ball should be
- 50:17Speaker 6: anywhere near as hard as it is. And I'll tell
- 50:19Speaker 6: you I could legitimately have a gripe with about seventy
- 50:24Speaker 6: to eighty percent of the plays where they put the ball.
- 50:27Speaker 2: See, I think spotting the ball is hard. I don't
- 50:30Speaker 2: because you have to have two things in mind when
- 50:32Speaker 2: you're doing it. Where is he down? And where's the
- 50:34Speaker 2: ball when he was down? And so you have to
- 50:36Speaker 2: be looking at like the whole body, almost have to
- 50:39Speaker 2: be have your eyes in two different places at the
- 50:41Speaker 2: same time. Where's the ball and where what's the first
- 50:45Speaker 2: thing that touches the ground.
- 50:46Speaker 6: I didn't say it was an easy job. I think
- 50:48Speaker 6: it's in general, like officiating. I don't think it's an
- 50:50Speaker 6: easy job. But I just because it's hard doesn't mean
- 50:54Speaker 6: I tell you it's better than ever.
- 50:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:56Speaker 6: I think that's kind of a silly take. But it's
- 50:59Speaker 6: just when you're dug in and you think they shouldn't
- 51:01Speaker 6: call a blatant face mask penalty because it's bailing out
- 51:04Speaker 6: the other team, which is his take, because it's a
- 51:08Speaker 6: bailout call, Like you don't want to see games that
- 51:10Speaker 6: games aren't decided on the bailout, right, the situation team
- 51:14Speaker 6: decided to bail the other out by committing a penalty
- 51:17Speaker 6: like that should be called.
- 51:18Speaker 2: If you see a penalty, you should call it.
- 51:20Speaker 6: Especially if it's blatant like that you want to tell me,
- 51:22Speaker 6: like the illegal contact on the near sideline when the
- 51:25Speaker 6: ball goes to the far sideline, that is maybe something
- 51:30Speaker 6: you can convince me of. When the quarterback who has
- 51:33Speaker 6: the ball in his hands is in the pocket and
- 51:34Speaker 6: gets ripped down by his face mask and his head
- 51:36Speaker 6: turns around the other way, that's a penalty that probably
- 51:39Speaker 6: should be called. Yep, ye, you know that happened in
- 51:42Speaker 6: the Rams Vikings game in the regular season. I wanted
- 51:46Speaker 6: the Rams to win. You guys know, I like the Rams.
- 51:48Speaker 6: I like Matthew Stafford. I'm rooting for the Rams. I
- 51:51Speaker 6: have nothing to try to defend Minnesota about. They probably
- 51:55Speaker 6: were going to lose the game anyway. But that's a penalty, yep, right,
- 51:58Speaker 6: Instead they give it. Not only they they didn't call it.
- 52:01Speaker 6: They ended up with a safety. Hey, I'm sorry that
- 52:05Speaker 6: didn't happen thirty years ago.
- 52:07Speaker 2: All right, we're gonna take a break. My foods here
- 52:10Speaker 2: when we come back. More calls and emails here and

- 53:17Speaker 13: Pats from the Past podcast, Mat Smith Paul Prillo joined
- 53:20Speaker 13: by number thirty seven on your scorecard, but number one
- 53:23Speaker 13: in our hearts at least. Rodney Harrison, How Rod How
- 53:26Speaker 13: you doing.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Man man?
- 53:27Speaker 9: I am doing great.
- 53:28Speaker 14: Good to be home, Good to see you guys, and
- 53:31Speaker 14: looking for a great Patriots game tonight.
- 53:33Speaker 13: How's it going with NBC?
- 53:35Speaker 9: Roddy, you still love it? I do. I'm very passionate
- 53:38Speaker 9: about it.
- 53:38Speaker 14: I spent twelve years in the studio and then the
- 53:41Speaker 14: last three years I've been out at the field location
- 53:45Speaker 14: and was just really extremely excited for Devin mccordy getting
- 53:48Speaker 14: an opportunity that he got. NBC likes Patriot guys, and
- 53:53Speaker 14: he's smart and he's doing a wonderful job.
- 53:55Speaker 9: Really proud of him.
- 53:55Speaker 13: Before we started here, I was actually thinking about this.
- 53:58Speaker 13: Here comes Rodney Harrison driving into Patriot Place, a drive
- 54:02Speaker 13: that you are familiar with for many, many times, but
- 54:05Speaker 13: you're in a different partner of your life I am.
- 54:07Speaker 13: When you're driving in here, Rodney, what goes through your mind?
- 54:10Speaker 14: Just so many great memories, Just the opportunity to be
- 54:14Speaker 14: able to come out here and play, and Coach Bill
- 54:17Speaker 14: and Robert Kraft giving me the opportunity to come out
- 54:19Speaker 14: here and really just be part of something special, and
- 54:22Speaker 14: all the great players that I played with. But also,
- 54:25Speaker 14: you know, just riding over here with Tony Dundee. It
- 54:28Speaker 14: brought up some great memories of us just kicking the
- 54:30Speaker 14: coach butt and just bonding together as a team, and
- 54:33Speaker 14: just all those hard practices in the rain, in the snow,
- 54:38Speaker 14: and just it gave me a greater appreciation for everything
- 54:41Speaker 14: that we've accomplished, because it's very difficult to do.
- 54:44Speaker 5: Yeah, we were joking around just before we started.
- 54:46Speaker 6: My guess is that Tony's memories quite as warman fuzzy
- 54:50Speaker 6: as yours. You know, for a September, it couldn't be
- 54:53Speaker 6: a more perfect night. He was probably wondering why it's
- 54:55Speaker 6: not snowing as he was as he was driving in.
- 54:57Speaker 14: But I'll tell you this man, just talking to coach,
- 54:59Speaker 14: he has a lot of respect for the Patriots organization,
- 55:02Speaker 14: Coach Bill and everything that we've accomplished. And I mean
- 55:05Speaker 14: those battles were epic. You know, you're talking about going
- 55:08Speaker 14: against Dungee and how well prepared he had his team,
- 55:12Speaker 14: Peyton Manning, all the great players that they had. I mean,
- 55:14Speaker 14: I can't believe I'm fifty years old when I want brother,
- 55:19Speaker 14: I was, you know, twenty nine years old and now
- 55:22Speaker 14: I'm fifty. And just like you talked about different part
- 55:24Speaker 14: with kids, I got a sun that plays for the
- 55:26Speaker 14: University of Tennessee who got their butts kicked yesterday. But
- 55:30Speaker 14: it's just really nice to be back, and it's nice
- 55:33Speaker 14: to see you guys still, you know, talking football.
- 55:35Speaker 9: Appreciate that.
- 55:36Speaker 13: Appreciate that. So I'm gonna put you on the spot
- 55:37Speaker 13: a little bit here as you're waxing nostalgia. And it's
- 55:41Speaker 13: amazing what life. You know, it's amazing what life is.
- 55:44Speaker 13: But who would have ever thought fifteen years ago that
- 55:47Speaker 13: you and Tony Dungee would be together on a broadcast
- 55:50Speaker 13: and doing that that's a small world, but your lives
- 55:52Speaker 13: interestect like that. Do you have a favorite memory here
- 55:58Speaker 13: at this stadium? Obviously you want a Super in Houston,
- 56:01Speaker 13: you won a Super Bowl in Jacksonville, and those are
- 56:03Speaker 13: things that I got a believer at the pinnacle of
- 56:06Speaker 13: your professional football career here at you Let Rodney, is
- 56:09Speaker 13: there something special that you remember that that takes a
- 56:11Speaker 13: cake of the ultimate memory that you might have.
- 56:13Speaker 14: I think just I don't know, I don't remember the
- 56:16Speaker 14: exact game, but just when Coach Belichick, I think it
- 56:19Speaker 14: was when it was an AFC championship game, when he
- 56:22Speaker 14: gave me a big hug and said, I'm glad we
- 56:24Speaker 14: got you here. That was a very special moment because
- 56:28Speaker 14: all I ever wanted to do was make him proud
- 56:31Speaker 14: of me and let him know that the decision that
- 56:34Speaker 14: he you know, that he made bringing me here, that
- 56:37Speaker 14: that wasn't a bad decision, and he gave me an
- 56:40Speaker 14: opportunity when so many around the league kind of frowned
- 56:42Speaker 14: upon Rodney Harrison.
- 56:44Speaker 9: He believed in me.
- 56:44Speaker 14: He gave me a bunch of freedom where I can
- 56:46Speaker 14: go out there and just play and express myself. And
- 56:49Speaker 14: I just couldn't love a coach more than I got
- 56:53Speaker 14: love for Coach Belichick.
- 56:54Speaker 6: You talk about that freedom that he gave you, and
- 56:56Speaker 6: I wanted to ask you about and was one of
- 56:58Speaker 6: the two playoff games. I'm not sure if it was
- 57:00Speaker 6: three or oh four, but when you and Ty sort of.
- 57:03Speaker 5: It must have been all three, because I don't think
- 57:04Speaker 5: he had three picks.
- 57:05Speaker 6: Yeah, and you guys kind of swapped like you were
- 57:07Speaker 6: kind of up in like the corner spot, like popping
- 57:10Speaker 6: guys and loud tie to you know, just that kind
- 57:12Speaker 6: of freedom. Was that something that you guys had spoken
- 57:14Speaker 6: about before.
- 57:15Speaker 14: And He's he never really questioned. He said, hey, you
- 57:18Speaker 14: guys kind of do what you want to do as
- 57:20Speaker 14: long as you're in a proper spot and you guys communicate,
- 57:23Speaker 14: and and that's the type of freedom that he allows
- 57:25Speaker 14: veteran players, guys that he trusts. We put so much
- 57:28Speaker 14: hard work and effort in and preparations, so when we
- 57:31Speaker 14: did something like that, I know he's on the sideline panicking,
- 57:34Speaker 14: But you know, Ty Law and I I mean to
- 57:36Speaker 14: be able to play with a guy like Ty, a
- 57:38Speaker 14: Hall of famer, you know, and Richard Seymour and Vince
- 57:41Speaker 14: will Fork and those guys, I mean, I had some
- 57:44Speaker 14: special players out in San Diego. But to be able
- 57:46Speaker 14: to play with some Hall of famers and some guys
- 57:48Speaker 14: like Willie McGinn as, Kevin Falk, Troy Brown, I mean,
- 57:52Speaker 14: these guys are legends. These guys are not only are
- 57:54Speaker 14: they brilliant football players, they're very smart people. And to
- 57:58Speaker 14: be able to have that opportunity was just really a blessing.
- 58:01Speaker 5: And don't tell yourself short.
- 58:02Speaker 6: You had the probably the biggest pick of that game
- 58:04Speaker 6: when they went right down the field the first drive.
- 58:06Speaker 6: You had the interception in the end zone. Right not
- 58:08Speaker 6: how that all started, Well, stepped in front of poll.
- 58:11Speaker 14: We all try to we all try to set the
- 58:13Speaker 14: tone and it's not about one player.
- 58:15Speaker 9: It's about the team. And you know, I can't.
- 58:17Speaker 5: You don't know, you do.
- 58:20Speaker 9: I gotta mention my boy Tom Brady.
- 58:22Speaker 14: You know, just seeing Tom get the love that he
- 58:25Speaker 14: got last week coming back to the stadium and just
- 58:29Speaker 14: seeing how old of a man he was.
- 58:30Speaker 9: You see how tired that dude was.
- 58:32Speaker 14: He was tired breathing about TV twelve four.
- 58:36Speaker 13: Now look at Ruddy, I mean, you're you've got a
- 58:38Speaker 13: job that takes you to where were you last Sunday.
- 58:40Speaker 13: You're in New York right for the Giants Dallas game
- 58:43Speaker 13: Kansas City before that. Yeah, and I don't know if
- 58:45Speaker 13: you saw this. Did you see the guys on the
- 58:46Speaker 13: sideline that were there. You mentioned Kevin Falk earlier, Kevin
- 58:50Speaker 13: Fox in the front where all the former players were,
- 58:54Speaker 13: and he's chanting Brady Brady Bread. There's Dan, you know,
- 59:01Speaker 13: Kevin Fark, Drrell Reeves came back for the game. To
- 59:05Speaker 13: see that kind of close knit people, Rush Hochstein, you know,
- 59:09Speaker 13: Dan Copen. Almost of those guys coming back to just
- 59:13Speaker 13: want to appreciate Tom. That made somebody who's been here
- 59:16Speaker 13: for a long time. Made me feel good because that
- 59:18Speaker 13: means it's important to these people to be there.
- 59:20Speaker 14: And it also shows you how much of an impact
- 59:22Speaker 14: Tom has had, not only just on the guys that
- 59:25Speaker 14: he works with, you know, as far as the offense,
- 59:27Speaker 14: but everybody. I mean, Tom has made such an impact.
- 59:31Speaker 14: When I came here, we used to have lunch together.
- 59:33Speaker 14: We used to sit down and have conversations and just
- 59:36Speaker 14: talk about life, talk about perspective. And I just see,
- 59:39Speaker 14: you know, Tom, twenty years later, he's you can see
- 59:43Speaker 14: his personality. You see him smiling laughing and being the
- 59:46Speaker 14: genuine funny guy that we saw everybody else. Man, is
- 59:50Speaker 14: this guy a robot? Does he ever smile? Does he
- 59:52Speaker 14: have any emotion? But now since he's retired, he could
- 59:54Speaker 14: take a deep breath. He's gone through a lot and
- 59:57Speaker 14: now you know he's just living his best life.
- 1:00:00Speaker 6: What has it been like? And now great moments in.
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: History.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Here are my reasons why I think Mike Rousseau is
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: not an American but a sneaky Canadian. His Mike, his
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: name Mike or Michelle in Francais, Dusseau is the most
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: Canadian name ever, right up there with Mario Lemieux and
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: Guy la Fleur. He played hockey at a high level.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: He excels at and loves the number one Canadian sport.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: Most importantly, he is sneaky. He is not in your
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: face with dripping sarcasm and smart, smart alec comments. Rather,
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: he comes at it Canadian style. He makes everyone think
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: he is likable and engage in, cooperative and nice and compliant,
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: but in reality he is very much as snark as Paul,
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: maybe more. He gives his little jabs under his breath,
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: so you hear him barely, hear him like a sarcastic
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: fourteen year old getting in the last word. Last week
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: in your discussions about Fred's forthcoming cosmetic surgeries, the talk
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: was on the freezing of fat and cool sculpting. Paul
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: pipes in and said it would never work for me,
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: and our sneaky Canadian slips in there is not enough ice.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: So three cheers for our honorary sneaky Canadian Mike the
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: Stark from the Great White North.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: That. That rejoint tickled Mike yourself pretty good, like a joke.
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: I remember that one, Paul, Sorry about that.
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: I don't I don't remember that joke, and I don't
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: remember you having cosmetic procedures.
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: No, I don't remember that either. What was I talking about?
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: I don't know you're talking about cool sculpting? Oh right, right,
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: but I didn't have it.
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: No.
- 1:01:38Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a good, good rocket shot you're tooking me.
- 1:01:42Speaker 6: But I don't remember you saying it, and I don't.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: Remember that anything.
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: It was a spot on takedown of me, though, I
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: mean credit whoever brought that in. That was great.
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: Sneaky Deuce.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Uh podcasts at Patriots dot Com is the way you
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: email US. And by the way, if you want to
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: get the PU newsletter, which is a lot of fun
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: put together by Alex with contributions from everyone, go to
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: Patriots dot com slash PU Newsletter and sign up for
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: the newsletter. It goes out every Friday. Okay, so that's that's.
- 1:02:14Speaker 7: Oh you mean when you went for fifty six?
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: I'm still arguing, might you might be able to say
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: they want a Game seven on the road?
- 1:02:21Speaker 9: Right?
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: They won Game six in Milwaukee, having a Celtics argument
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: on that, and then they weren't underdogs. Paul doesn't like
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: the Celtics and Evan does, Oh that's not true. No,
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: that's you like the Celtics. Jake and Chicago.
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: What I don't get difference?
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: Jake in Chicago writes in I'm fully on Friends Give
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: thanks to Matty p Train. Highly recommend listening to him
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: on Julian's podcast recently. Lots of insight and behind the
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: scenes talk. Just a smart guy who loves football. The
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: OC thing might have been an experiment gone bad, but
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: listening to him talkball and his understanding of how Bill operates,
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: you start to get the method to the madness and ps.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: If Paul could get through the email read without a
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: snarky comment. I'll donate to his Toyota cam Re fund
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: or buy lunch for the crew his choice.
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: Thank you think he did it?
- 1:03:12Speaker 7: No, it was fantastic.
- 1:03:14Speaker 6: He obviously knows me well, because you know what. The
- 1:03:16Speaker 6: first thing in my mind was, I don't have a
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: spare day to listen to it.
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: It was like three fars.
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: Evan and I both managed to chip away at it.
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: But no, it was it was.
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: It was really good.
- 1:03:26Speaker 7: I listened to it on the on the plane ride
- 1:03:27Speaker 7: home the other day and it was really good.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: It was good. It was really good.
- 1:03:31Speaker 7: Anything you learn, I wouldn't say it was like groundbreaking
- 1:03:34Speaker 7: in terms of that kind of stuff, but it was
- 1:03:35Speaker 7: just cool. Behind the scenes stories were really cool. And
- 1:03:38Speaker 7: there's a lot of cutups of it on Twitter too
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: as well if you don't want to watch the whole thing.
- 1:03:43Speaker 7: But I think the number one thing that you do
- 1:03:45Speaker 7: learn is like he's kind of a cool guy, Like
- 1:03:47Speaker 7: you know, he's he's pretty fun, like you could tell
- 1:03:50Speaker 7: why people would, you know, like Bill would would enjoy
- 1:03:53Speaker 7: being around him and kind of a cool hand. Yeah, guy,
- 1:03:56Speaker 7: I didn't have an.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: It's no doubt he's smart.
- 1:03:58Speaker 7: Yeah, he knows Paul I thought his Uh, the coolest
- 1:04:01Speaker 7: part I would say was the him talking about his
- 1:04:04Speaker 7: play calling process on defense, on defense and just like
- 1:04:07Speaker 7: kind of how situation, game plan, opponent, like all that
- 1:04:11Speaker 7: stuff goes in and how he would sort of go
- 1:04:14Speaker 7: about it. And he mentioned who's the cornerbacks coach? He
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: mentioned Josh Boyer was Yeah. He said that he was
- 1:04:19Speaker 7: his eye in the sky up in the in the
- 1:04:21Speaker 7: booth and was the best, added as anyone that he
- 1:04:25Speaker 7: had ever worked with that identifying the personnel for the opponent.
- 1:04:30Speaker 7: So he would call down from you know, they're an
- 1:04:31Speaker 7: eleven personnel, here's the five you know, skilled players, and
- 1:04:34Speaker 7: then Maddy p would make a call based off of
- 1:04:37Speaker 7: what grouping and all that kind of stuff that they
- 1:04:39Speaker 7: were in. And he said he was the best that
- 1:04:41Speaker 7: he's ever had.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: Interest.
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: But I know you're getting the emails. Just wanted to
- 1:04:45Speaker 6: add a couple of things that I don't think we
- 1:04:46Speaker 6: touched on this week. You know, some more news in
- 1:04:50Speaker 6: terms of the coaching staff. Oh yeah, Hot Downing reportedly
- 1:04:54Speaker 6: will be the wide receivers coach. Another guy with ties
- 1:04:57Speaker 6: to Rabel was eventually Vrabel's last offensive coordinator. I think
- 1:05:05Speaker 6: in Tennessee.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: Seems to be a very intense guy.
- 1:05:08Speaker 6: Yeah, he had some issues, I know, and he also
- 1:05:12Speaker 6: I think was passing game coordinator maybe with the Jets
- 1:05:14Speaker 6: at some point. So reportedly he will be the wide
- 1:05:18Speaker 6: receivers coach. And I don't know if we talked last
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: week about Ben mcadoo's staying.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: I heard him all of this.
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: You know, all of the other than the coordinators themselves,
- 1:05:30Speaker 6: the three Cord Greg Bard, friend of the show, Greg
- 1:05:36Speaker 6: Bdard had a little chart with all the coaching staff
- 1:05:41Speaker 6: in it, defensive assistant for Ben McAdoo, which I thought
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: was interesting, senior defensive assistant or something like that.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: Chris Sims was on with uh I think Phil Perry
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: from the Super Bowl and no, it was with Tom
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: Curry and Chris Sims. He's the one came out before
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: the draft and said that Drake May is a coach
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: killer is is that he the one that knows? But
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: he had a really good he was down May. So
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: he came in and did a Maya culpa and said,
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: lookten I was wrong all these things that I saw,
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: you know, the feet were footwork, the accuracy, it all
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: got corrected, So I was wrong. But if that's true
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: that his initial analysis was accurate but it got corrected.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: Who gets the credit for that? And is that why
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: maybe they kept Ben McAdoo because maybe he was involved.
- 1:06:34Speaker 6: I would say, Drake May, but that's me.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: Somebody was helping him.
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: I mean, now it's vam Pelt, I would say. I mean,
- 1:06:40Speaker 4: if they moved McAdoo to the defensive side of the ballet,
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: didn't I mean, if they kicked him as like the
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: quarterbacks coach. Maybe, But it.
- 1:06:45Speaker 7: Sounds like what Ben mcadoo's gonna do what Rabel did
- 1:06:47Speaker 7: last year in Cleveland, which is like reverse engineer things
- 1:06:51Speaker 7: for the defense, Like if I was game planning against
- 1:06:54Speaker 7: our defense, this is what I would do offensively, and
- 1:06:57Speaker 7: then that way there he can help the defense, the
- 1:06:59Speaker 7: scout team, that kind of stuff set them up for
- 1:07:02Speaker 7: success that way. But I do wonder what the footwork
- 1:07:05Speaker 7: stuff like, you know, I don't know what Josh's philosophies
- 1:07:08Speaker 7: are on like left foot forward, which was a big
- 1:07:11Speaker 7: Alex van Pelt West Coast thing. If Drake May says
- 1:07:14Speaker 7: to him, I feel really comfortable with it. This way,
- 1:07:17Speaker 7: the way that they taught me last year, it was
- 1:07:19Speaker 7: better for me. It worked like, do they then adjust
- 1:07:22Speaker 7: and change everything to mimic left foot forward and be
- 1:07:26Speaker 7: able to still do that kind of thing. I'm sure
- 1:07:28Speaker 7: Ben mcadou could help them with that process as well
- 1:07:31Speaker 7: of streamlining just the two offenses and kind of getting
- 1:07:34Speaker 7: them on the same page. Schramatically.
- 1:07:38Speaker 6: Yeah, I was thinking, who had one of the questions
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: in the mailbag this week was about the footwork and
- 1:07:43Speaker 6: any concerns that you know, losing Alex van Peltz. You know,
- 1:07:47Speaker 6: maybe he deserves some of the credit to answer your
- 1:07:50Speaker 6: original question for Drake May. And one of the things
- 1:07:53Speaker 6: you talked about was the left foot forward thing, and
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: I do think that's relevant the whole however they want
- 1:07:57Speaker 6: to I personally think of footwork with Drake May. I
- 1:08:02Speaker 6: don't think Chris Simms was talking about how he lines
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: up to take the snap out of the shotgwn with
- 1:08:06Speaker 6: what foot forward? Now, I think he's talking about his
- 1:08:09Speaker 6: throwing mechanics and how where his feet are when he's throwing,
- 1:08:12Speaker 6: when he's on and off platform, when he's leaving the part.
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: I think that's the kind of footwork that I saw
- 1:08:17Speaker 6: a lot of. Now, I'm not dismissing what Evan's talking about.
- 1:08:20Speaker 6: There's something too that left foot forward that has importance.
- 1:08:26Speaker 6: I just would think that once you do it, you
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: have that like how you're going to align is sort
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: of how you're going to align. But I do think
- 1:08:33Speaker 6: your mechanics can get sloppy when you're not necessarily drilling
- 1:08:37Speaker 6: your footwork all the time. I do think there's a
- 1:08:40Speaker 6: minor concern that if he's not, you know, treated with
- 1:08:44Speaker 6: the same amount of level of detail. I don't really
- 1:08:46Speaker 6: worry about that with Josh McDaniels because I think he'll
- 1:08:48Speaker 6: have that. Yeah, I think, you know, I think Josh
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: has shown his ability to to you know, mine the derd.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:56Speaker 6: Well, he's been a quarterback guy. Ye, Like, he's really
- 1:09:00Speaker 6: been the quarterback coach while being the offensive coordinator. He's
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: always had an assistant, you know, like the Chaplinsky's of
- 1:09:07Speaker 6: the world and the Bowheart degrees. But he's been the
- 1:09:09Speaker 6: quarterback coach really since he's been the offensive coordinator.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: Christ in New Hampshire, I've never been more certain of
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: anything in my life. The Chiefs are going to win
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: the fixes in or the football gods have decided, or
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: whatever cliche you prefer. I bet my entire savings, my cars,
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: my house, and my children, but my wife won't let me.
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: So he is convinced that the fix is in. The
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: Chiefs will win.
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: I hope not.
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: I mean, the Chiefs may win, but just because they're better.
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: I just think it's the way people have sort of
- 1:09:41Speaker 6: tried it. Well, they're not really very good. It's just fixed,
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: like that's how you're making yourself feel better.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: Sam from Saint Catharine's what allows me to sleep soundly
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: at night with all these Chiefs for his Patriots debates
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: is a simple fact that when the lights were brightest
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: in championship games and Super Bowl, Brady to and over, Mahomes,
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: Gronk too and over, as Kelsey and Belichick two and
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: over as Andy Reid, and those numbers will never change.
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: In fact, yep, let's Bill gets back in the league.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: True, but those are facts.
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: Yep, that happened.
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: Let's see Tanaka writ sin last week, there was a
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: discussion about the chip and the ball and using it
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: to determined ball placements and first downs. The issues you
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: discussed was questioning if the it could be seen by
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: RF lasers or other means. As a rocket scientist, really so,
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: this person truly is a rocket scientist, You are looking
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: at it all wrong. The chip in the ball needs
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: to contain inertial sensors similar to ones than iPhones and
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: other common devices, only a bit more accurate like the
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: ones in rockets, which provide telemetry data. The ball would
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: be able to determine from original placement on the down
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: which direction moved and by how much and when it
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: was at that position. It is accomplished via multidirectional AC accelerometers.
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: The ball simply transmits this information via a Bluetooth type signal.
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: This would eliminate all of the issues with not being
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: able to see the ball and know where the placement
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: should be. These chips are quite small, and newer versions
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: can withstand one thousand G forces. I'm sure that this
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: has already been looked at by the League. If not,
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: this rocket Scientist is very disappointed in their technical staff.
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: I don't think it's a technology.
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: Problem, it's a money problem. But but chips on their
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: own do they have their own power?
- 1:11:41Speaker 6: How do you know when the knees down?
- 1:11:44Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't think that's right. So I was listening
- 1:11:46Speaker 7: to a podcast chips, Yeah, right, I have chips in
- 1:11:48Speaker 7: the knee, right, right, But I was listening to a
- 1:11:50Speaker 7: podcast where I don't think it's I think that they
- 1:11:53Speaker 7: figured that piece of it out. They had these balls
- 1:11:56Speaker 7: in the one of the spring leaks, I can't remember
- 1:11:58Speaker 7: which one, but they are it as a exploratory thing.
- 1:12:03Speaker 6: Well, there's a chip in the NFL ball.
- 1:12:05Speaker 7: So the problem is is that and I think this
- 1:12:08Speaker 7: is what the emailer is getting at. The whole ball
- 1:12:11Speaker 7: needs to be covered in the chips. So one of
- 1:12:14Speaker 7: those footballs is five hundred dollars for one of the footballs.
- 1:12:18Speaker 7: So now when you think about, you know, across the
- 1:12:20Speaker 7: league all season long, how many football is the NFL
- 1:12:24Speaker 7: goes through And at the end of the day, we're
- 1:12:26Speaker 7: talking about maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars spent every
- 1:12:30Speaker 7: single year. And I know everybody says, oh, it's a
- 1:12:32Speaker 7: ten billion dollar industry. Who the heck cares these people care?
- 1:12:37Speaker 7: These greedy people.
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: I don't doubt at all. Like the technology exists, yeah,
- 1:12:42Speaker 6: I just don't know how it works, like in terms,
- 1:12:45Speaker 6: not the technology like in practice.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: But to have those accelerometers and all that stuff in
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: an iPhone. iPhone has a battery, this power going through
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: the phone which controls all that. I just wonder how
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: a chip has its own power gott.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: To charge your footballs up before every game you plug them.
- 1:13:04Speaker 7: This is from a cost perspective.
- 1:13:06Speaker 6: I think it is really one of the best that
- 1:13:08Speaker 6: could be the simplest answer.
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: Couldn't spike it anymore.
- 1:13:12Speaker 6: I just think there's still some things to be ironed
- 1:13:14Speaker 6: out that they haven't that no one's really explained to
- 1:13:17Speaker 6: me how that worked. Like the ball I get has
- 1:13:19Speaker 6: a chip in it, and they know where the where
- 1:13:21Speaker 6: the chip is when the whistle, like, but where is
- 1:13:25Speaker 6: the ball spotted? It's the same thing that you said earlier,
- 1:13:29Speaker 6: And you disagree with me that you think it's it's
- 1:13:31Speaker 6: harder than I'm giving it credit for to know where
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: the knee is, where the ball is right or whatever.
- 1:13:36Speaker 6: Chip doesn't alleviate that problem. Yeah, I don't think.
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: What is the first thing that touched the ground to
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: cause him being down and then where was the ball
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: at that time? You know, it's it's tough.
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: Yeah, match it up.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: Hector in Pennsylvania, and I'm glad he's writing in because
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: I heard this trade scenario and it just I just laugh.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: He's from Pennsylvania. Loves his shift on listener back when
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: it was PFW. Prigress had Andy Hart, which, by the way,
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: I do miss. But would you trade for Miles Garrett?
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: And if so, would you give up a second round
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: pick as well as Joe Milton to acquire Garrett?
- 1:14:12Speaker 7: You need a lot more to give.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: That would allow the Browns to use their first round
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: pick to go after talent as opposed to a quarterback,
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: and would allow the first pick from the Patriots to
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: acquire Will Campbell or perhaps go after Abdul Carter. Even Okay,
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: I've heard this before, Joe Milton.
- 1:14:29Speaker 6: You've heard someone say that the Patriots could get Miles
- 1:14:31Speaker 6: Garrett for a second round pick.
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: And Joe Milton right, a second round pick. Yeah, one,
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: why would the Browns do that?
- 1:14:41Speaker 14: So?
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: And and this person's going the next step saying that
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: now the Browns have their starting quarterback with Joe Milton.
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: You don't believe that, Paul, do they.
- 1:14:54Speaker 6: How many points they scored there?
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: It's not about.
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: So for anybody. And but he was subscribing to that scenario.
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: Second round go look at what it costs to get
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: Khalil Mack, and Miles Garrett is better than Khalil Mack.
- 1:15:12Speaker 7: You know, I am always interested about these trades though,
- 1:15:14Speaker 7: because it doesn't usually end up being as much as
- 1:15:18Speaker 7: you think it's going.
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: To make, No, especially when a guy is adamant about
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: demanding the trade. Sometimes that lowers the price because they're
- 1:15:25Speaker 6: desperate and they have to get to move.
- 1:15:27Speaker 7: And I'd also say, like it matters where in the
- 1:15:29Speaker 7: first round the picks are coming from. Like I think
- 1:15:31Speaker 7: one team that's been floated is the Lions just to
- 1:15:33Speaker 7: kind of get them over the top to go out
- 1:15:36Speaker 7: and get But if the Lions know that they're going
- 1:15:38Speaker 7: to be picking thirty second in the draft for the
- 1:15:40Speaker 7: next two years because they now have Miles Garrett and
- 1:15:42Speaker 7: they're going to win the Super Bowl, that's a lot
- 1:15:44Speaker 7: different than the Patriots trading their first round picks for
- 1:15:46Speaker 7: Miles Garrett. So you know it's just because they might
- 1:15:49Speaker 7: get technically two first round picks for him. It might
- 1:15:52Speaker 7: be two first round picks from a team that is
- 1:15:54Speaker 7: expecting to be picking in the thirties, you know, in
- 1:15:57Speaker 7: the first round. That's not the same thing.
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: Folow. Yeah, I've heard Buffalo thrown out there a lot.
- 1:16:01Speaker 6: Dere I've heard it thrown out there, like those two
- 1:16:04Speaker 6: teams that are probably different. The bottom of the first round,
- 1:16:07Speaker 6: not number four.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: Kyle from Pembroke has a would you rather game? And
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: before you asked Paul, why does it have to be
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: one of the other, it's because that's the point of
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: the game.
- 1:16:17Speaker 6: I love games. What do you make it? This is
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: I'm your audience, bro, I love your game.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: Would you rather draft Carter at four or trade four
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: for Miles Garrett?
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: Carter?
- 1:16:27Speaker 6: Draft Carter at four?
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: Okay, so you want the the upside.
- 1:16:34Speaker 6: No, I don't have really a lot of faith that
- 1:16:37Speaker 6: Carter will be a better player than Miles Garrett. But
- 1:16:40Speaker 6: Miles Garrett is thirty twenty nine. I'll take a guy
- 1:16:44Speaker 6: who might be a big part of my team when
- 1:16:47Speaker 6: I'm good.
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: Again, say, even if Carter isn't as good all around
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: as Garrett, he's going to bring something important to the
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: table where he can get after the quarterback a little bit.
- 1:16:54Speaker 6: I mean, it's unrealistic to expect him to sight unseen
- 1:16:59Speaker 6: to be defensive player of the year.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: Can't, right, right?
- 1:17:03Speaker 6: I Mean obviously you hope that, but that's hard to
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: just pencil in for a kid who's never played it down.
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: But you'd rather use the draft pick on Carter than
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: trade for Garrett.
- 1:17:13Speaker 7: Yeah, I think I probably would too, think about it though.
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: I love gettr but I would I mean two signed T.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: Higgins to a large, maybe overpay contract, or draft McMillan
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: at four.
- 1:17:25Speaker 7: T T Higgins Higgins.
- 1:17:27Speaker 6: Yeah, okay again twenty five as opposed to twenty nine.
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: Trade down to swap first and get a Day two pick,
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: or draft Will Campbell at four.
- 1:17:38Speaker 6: Trade down to get her first.
- 1:17:41Speaker 7: Get a day two pick.
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: So oh wait, so you get you get the first
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: and you get a day two pick.
- 1:17:45Speaker 6: So you're not getting a first How far down you're
- 1:17:47Speaker 6: swapping with somebody and you're getting a Day two pick?
- 1:17:51Speaker 7: How far down am I going?
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: That's a good question.
- 1:17:54Speaker 7: I don't know. I can't answer it.
- 1:17:55Speaker 6: But I have to take Will Campbell at four?
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: Yeah, take the.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: Trade, Yeah, I might take how down and going?
- 1:18:00Speaker 6: Okay, but I don't want Will Campbell at four.
- 1:18:03Speaker 7: I don't mind Will Campbell, but I might.
- 1:18:04Speaker 6: You know, I might be being stubborn about that.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: Get rid of the Pro Bowl or get rid of
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: holiday games, midweek games.
- 1:18:11Speaker 6: Oh I missed that one.
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: So you can get rid of the or get rid
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: of the midweek or holiday games, holiday midweek pro.
- 1:18:18Speaker 6: I would say, the holiday midweek. I don't care about
- 1:18:21Speaker 6: the Pro Bowl anyway. That doesn't know.
- 1:18:23Speaker 7: I like the I like the holiday games, don't there's
- 1:18:27Speaker 7: no dry football. I watch it every week.
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: I do too.
- 1:18:32Speaker 7: Well, we don't have we don't really we don't really
- 1:18:35Speaker 7: get to like watch a lot of non Patriots football
- 1:18:38Speaker 7: during the season, so I I like watching it.
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Uh, Floyd and Michigan. Some recent mock drafts of
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: the Patriots drafting Mason Graham, which I'm okay with. I
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: like Ted McMillian. McMillan, but he is the number fifteen
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: rated player on Daniel Jeremiah's player rankings. Will Campbell is
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: the number eight rated player in his ranking, plus too
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: many comments about him possibly being the guard for me
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: to be okay with drafting me at number four. Too
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: many people seem to ignore the value of the number
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: four pick. No reaching, But the problem is the number
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: four pick is more valuable in some other years when
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: you have better high end talent. This year, the number
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: four pick isn't that valuable.
- 1:19:18Speaker 6: I mean, if you, yeah, someone's good, someone's gonna get
- 1:19:23Speaker 6: taken four, that doesn't mean that they're worthy of the
- 1:19:25Speaker 6: fourth overall pick. So like you have to sort of
- 1:19:29Speaker 6: talk yourself into what is the lesser of two evils
- 1:19:32Speaker 6: if you don't have an opportunity to take Carter or Hunter,
- 1:19:36Speaker 6: because I think those two guys are probably worth the
- 1:19:38Speaker 6: fourth pick.
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:19:40Speaker 7: I'm not a big Mason Graham guy. Not because I
- 1:19:43Speaker 7: don't think his tape is good. I do. I just
- 1:19:45Speaker 7: I'm not really I don't see the value like I'm
- 1:19:48Speaker 7: I guess I'm just missing where like what's the what's
- 1:19:51Speaker 7: the vision of building the.
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: Team Barmore if they don't know if Barmore can play anymore.
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: I've heard many people say you build from the inside out.
- 1:20:00Speaker 7: Yeah, but now we're building really from the inside. It
- 1:20:02Speaker 7: kind of like reminds me of like what Washington did
- 1:20:04Speaker 7: all those years ago where they drafted like four first
- 1:20:07Speaker 7: round defensive tackles in a row, all from Alabama. It's
- 1:20:10Speaker 7: just I just don't see what. I don't see moving
- 1:20:14Speaker 7: the needle, Like, I just don't He's not gonna finish sacks,
- 1:20:18Speaker 7: so he's not He's not that type of player. He's
- 1:20:20Speaker 7: a disruptor.
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: He's not warn sack.
- 1:20:23Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean he's he's a disruptor, just like kind
- 1:20:25Speaker 7: of like bar More. You know, like he's he's gonna
- 1:20:28Speaker 7: wreck games, but I don't think he's going to be
- 1:20:29Speaker 7: the one getting him on the ground. I get the
- 1:20:31Speaker 7: interior pressure, I get all that. I just I don't know.
- 1:20:35Speaker 7: I just don't think that it's enough A good run
- 1:20:37Speaker 7: stopper he is, but I wouldn't say it's his strength.
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: On the way to the quarterback.
- 1:20:42Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, he reminds me a lot of Brandon
- 1:20:45Speaker 7: Fiskey with the rams, Like I think that that's his
- 1:20:47Speaker 7: ideal roll three technique get up the field calls him
- 1:20:53Speaker 7: Fiskey pronunciation.
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: I I know how it's spelled, but it's usually it's
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: pronounced fisk.
- 1:21:00Speaker 7: I think it's fisky, friskysy.
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: I think it's fisk.
- 1:21:07Speaker 7: But yeah, I just I'm not crazy about it. Like
- 1:21:10Speaker 7: i'd much I'd much rather compliment bar More with an
- 1:21:13Speaker 7: edge rusher with somebody coming, if you're gonna go pass rush, like,
- 1:21:16Speaker 7: I'd much rather be off the edge. I just who's
- 1:21:20Speaker 7: getting the quarterback on the ground.
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: Yeah, you're talking my language. That's in the same kind
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: of thoughts that I've been thinking about him, because he's
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: a good player. But like you said, I mean, if
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: bar Moore is good to go. It's a little bit
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: too redundant. I would also just say, with all the
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: conversation around Will Campbell, who I really like, I mean,
- 1:21:35Speaker 4: I think he's gonna be a good player. I just
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: think they need to sew up something with the offensive
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: line and free agency. I just don't think even if
- 1:21:41Speaker 4: you take Will Cambell with four, I still think you're
- 1:21:44Speaker 4: putting a lot of You're a lot of hope on
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: that one player being able to fix as a rookie
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: at a position that a lot of people aren't even
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: sure he can play like. I don't want to wait
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: till that point to feel like we solidified the offensive line. I'm,
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: you know, seeing Steve Palazzola, who we know a little
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: bit from PFF, saying you just need the offensive line
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: to be okay, just to not suck. And I kind of.
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: Agree with that notion.
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: That's me.
- 1:22:07Speaker 6: I was stunned. And as Evon pointed out, he's kind
- 1:22:10Speaker 6: of one of the analytics guys.
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: That's why I wonder I feel without Hunter or Carter
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: at four, I really am. I'm kind of torn. I'm
- 1:22:20Speaker 4: kind of torn on what to do. I don't like
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: that much.
- 1:22:24Speaker 6: And then I could talk into Will Campbell, but.
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: I can talk myself into it.
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: I just like to get there and be like, we've
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: got a left.
- 1:22:30Speaker 6: Tackle right now, but I would like to sign a
- 1:22:34Speaker 6: veteran tackle and draft Will Campbell or Kelvin Bank Aleric Jackson.
- 1:22:40Speaker 4: Yeah, Aler Jackson's a great one. I mean, or just
- 1:22:42Speaker 4: you know, let's wait till day two and get a
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: right tackle. Like, let's not you know what I mean,
- 1:22:47Speaker 4: Let's sign Jackson. He's a solid player. Fine, get another
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: developmental guy in day two. Uh, you know that maybe
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: he's going to play the right side. And I mean,
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: I also just think like, even as bad as last
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: year was, I think we're better coaching. Even if they
- 1:22:59Speaker 4: had to bring back some of those, like one of
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: the right tackle guys, like they could probably figure it out.
- 1:23:04Speaker 4: And that's just saying without even before the draft, get
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: more bodies. But I just I think I don't think
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: they can get to the draft and be like, let's
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: find all our answers to the offensive line. I think
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: they've got to fix that or at least feel like
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: they've made some solid steps in free agency.
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: But I just would feel very good if they don't
- 1:23:19Speaker 6: have two guys two different starting tackles next.
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: Year after yeah, after after after the draft team.
- 1:23:26Speaker 6: I don't care when. Just next year, I want two
- 1:23:28Speaker 6: different guys starting at tack.
- 1:23:30Speaker 7: I would. I think you sign ideally signed to veteran
- 1:23:34Speaker 7: starters in free agency. Not necessarily Joe Thomas, like a
- 1:23:38Speaker 7: you're not going to get that guy, but just two
- 1:23:40Speaker 7: veteran starters in free agency, whether their guards or tackles,
- 1:23:43Speaker 7: just so that you have that those kind of spots
- 1:23:48Speaker 7: exactly shops for nobody's just gonna but like it doesn't
- 1:23:51Speaker 7: have to be Tray Smith, Like you don't have to
- 1:23:53Speaker 7: go pay twenty million dollars a year for a guard,
- 1:23:56Speaker 7: but just some serviceable NFL offensive lineman a lot, you know,
- 1:23:59Speaker 7: can we keep bringing it up, but a lot like
- 1:24:01Speaker 7: what Washington? Did you know they brought in just functional guys,
- 1:24:04Speaker 7: you know? Uh, and then you bring those guys in.
- 1:24:07Speaker 7: I'm higher. I guess maybe on Will Campbell at four
- 1:24:09Speaker 7: than other people. I don't see the knee jerk necessity
- 1:24:13Speaker 7: to move him inside immediately. I think he can make
- 1:24:16Speaker 7: it at tackle. I think he's plenty athletic enough to
- 1:24:18Speaker 7: play tackle in the NFL. I just I always come
- 1:24:22Speaker 7: back to if you played tackle, at a really really
- 1:24:24Speaker 7: high level in that conference against that competition. Now all
- 1:24:29Speaker 7: of a sudden, he's not He's going to be in
- 1:24:30Speaker 7: over his head at tackle, Like I just don't necessarily
- 1:24:34Speaker 7: see that. Like he's going up against NFL rushers almost
- 1:24:36Speaker 7: every week at Alabama.
- 1:24:38Speaker 6: Isaiah wins online too.
- 1:24:40Speaker 7: So Isaiah was extremely undersized.
- 1:24:42Speaker 6: So totally understand he played at a high level in
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: that conference.
- 1:24:45Speaker 7: Sure, but Isaiah was undersized for an NFL offensive lineman.
- 1:24:49Speaker 7: Will Campbell give you an example to potentially have.
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: Some short staying on the offensive line theme. Patriots bringing
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: Doug Maroon, who is supposedly a good offensive line coach.
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: Then we hear a story yesterday that Dante Scarnecia could
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: be around, you know.
- 1:25:04Speaker 6: If they need him.
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: Is that an indication that maybe they might be drafting
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: Will Campbell and you could have his own private coach
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: to make sure that he works out.
- 1:25:18Speaker 4: No, to be honest, I didn't really know what to
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: make of those reports, Like its just it kind of
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: feels like we really promise we're going to take care
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: of this really, No, seriously, though, we're gonna bring Dante back.
- 1:25:28Speaker 4: We know he's We're a lack of brain power, right,
- 1:25:31Speaker 4: we know he's working wood mostly now, but he's gonna
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: come back for He's gonna moonlight. He's gonna audit some
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: classes and and help us out. Like I just I
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: don't really, I'm not really in save us Dante Scarnecia
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: mode anymore. I think, you know, I'd be great to
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: have him around a little bit, but I'm not going
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: to rely on him to be.
- 1:25:45Speaker 6: The one anti Tom Brady anti greatest position for of all.
- 1:25:50Speaker 7: Interesting, Well, Doug Maron's here or reportedly going to be
- 1:25:53Speaker 7: the offensive line coach, and then the assistant offensive line
- 1:25:56Speaker 7: coach has also run a room before. I can't pronounce
- 1:25:59Speaker 7: his his last name, totally, totally, totally, I say it.
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: I think, so that's what we're thinking. It's that.
- 1:26:06Speaker 7: So he's he's also been a head offensive line coach too,
- 1:26:11Speaker 7: So you really have two guys that have experience of
- 1:26:13Speaker 7: coaching the offensive line. And then Josh is really good
- 1:26:17Speaker 7: with protections and the schematics of working the offensive line,
- 1:26:21Speaker 7: not necessarily technique, but in terms of the x's and o's.
- 1:26:24Speaker 7: So do they really have a lot of brain power
- 1:26:27Speaker 7: already invested in I.
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: Had one person come in today and said, you know,
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: last year they were making fun of us because we
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: had too much inexperience. Now they're making fun of us
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: because we have too many chefs in the kitchen. Are
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: people saying that?
- 1:26:41Speaker 6: People are saying there's too many chefs in the too many.
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: Chefs in the kitchen when he cooks?
- 1:26:45Speaker 6: Oh, is that in relation there's too many head coaches?
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:26:48Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't think it's too many cooks in the kitchen.
- 1:26:51Speaker 6: It might be too many personalities, too many strong personalities.
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:26:55Speaker 6: I don't think it's necessarily. I don't think that. I
- 1:26:58Speaker 6: think they have a perfect amount of coaches to I
- 1:27:01Speaker 6: think it's more in line with Bill did, which I
- 1:27:03Speaker 6: always agreed with. Less is more, But I don't think
- 1:27:07Speaker 6: it's less. I think it's typical of what other teams do.
- 1:27:10Speaker 6: The Patriots last year, I believe, had double what they
- 1:27:14Speaker 6: have right now. That I'm not that's too many cooks
- 1:27:17Speaker 6: in the kitchen.
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: Well, no, I mean guys running around cooks. But I
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: think it's specifically, you got a lot of head coaches
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: who would you would think have a lot of strong opinions,
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: and how is that going to all mix.
- 1:27:31Speaker 6: That's a concern to me, is that one thinks this
- 1:27:34Speaker 6: is the way the offense should run well. And that's
- 1:27:36Speaker 6: not necessarily that Josh McDaniel's things, But that's.
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: Where Rabel comes in. Rabel has to put the fist
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: down and say, listen, when we make a decision, that's
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: it all. We're all on board and there's no second guessing.
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: We go forward as a team.
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: So that's that's to me is a big reason why
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: I'm not that concerned. I mean, had it been a
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: first time head coach with a lot of head coaches
- 1:27:58Speaker 4: around him, then I think that it's a recipe for
- 1:28:01Speaker 4: this guy doesn't know what he's doing, you know that
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: that kind of thing. But I just think the way
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: I mean I saw, I think it was Taylor maybe
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: interviewed Steve Spagnola with the at the thing last night
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: talking about how much respect he has for Vrabel, I
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: just I think a lot of coach he's kind of
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: one of those coaches, coach kind of guys. I think
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: a lot of people respect him around league, and I
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: I just I think he's going to have the personality
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: to keep a handle on all that stuff and be
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: able to let people do their job without feeling like,
- 1:28:25Speaker 4: you know, they're coming to him.
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: Cynthia is not happy with us. Oh Cynthia about last week,
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: she said, worst episode this week? Hearing the fashion shaming
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: of Taylor switch, can we focus on something important like
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: football instead of women bashing other women? Low moment? Pu
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: sounded like elementary school mean girls, and that is not
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: just Alex and Tamara. Mike sounded like the closet to
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: an adult, like the closest to an adult, think and
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: not that close and not for very long. I don't
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: care if you like her or don't. We're better than that.
- 1:28:58Speaker 7: Wow, this guy's.
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: Way, I just dig care music.
- 1:29:04Speaker 6: I think the one thing I said was I wasn't
- 1:29:06Speaker 6: aware there was a rant against her fashion. I wasn't
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: aware of that. I thought, I don't know that was
- 1:29:12Speaker 6: considered to be like a shot at She really enjoys herself.
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: By the way we talk about everybody's fashion on this show.
- 1:29:20Speaker 6: I didn't because I didn't know it was a thing. Fortunately,
- 1:29:23Speaker 6: the women that I hear talking.
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: About it fashions, I'm not here to defend themselves.
- 1:29:29Speaker 6: I didn't know either. Got to plead ignorance on this thing.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: We have a right, we have a right to our opinions.
- 1:29:36Speaker 6: And she has a right to complain about them.
- 1:29:39Speaker 9: What is that bad that you're wearing?
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:29:42Speaker 4: And Hart that was having like a big dartmouth window
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: or something.
- 1:29:46Speaker 6: I actually went home that night and I talked to
- 1:29:48Speaker 6: Beth about it a little bit. I was like, is
- 1:29:50Speaker 6: there a thing like where women don't think that Taylor
- 1:29:53Speaker 6: Swift has any fashion sense or anything like that? And
- 1:29:55Speaker 6: she was not really. Now we're a little older, you know,
- 1:29:59Speaker 6: so maybe we're not as Yeah.
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: Wow, we can't all be the Grammys with the castle
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: on his head?
- 1:30:07Speaker 7: That was Jayden Smith.
- 1:30:08Speaker 6: Yeah, that was that was a rough roof. Is that
- 1:30:12Speaker 6: is that all? I don't know if that is that allowed.
- 1:30:14Speaker 7: Too much entanglement?
- 1:30:15Speaker 6: Is that allowed to criticize that?
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:30:17Speaker 6: Like yeah, because I thought that was ridiculous.
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it looked like it was being punished.
- 1:30:24Speaker 6: How did you be sitting behind him?
- 1:30:25Speaker 7: I know his mom's kind of crazy.
- 1:30:27Speaker 6: Your castle, Oh don't don't don't do that.
- 1:30:30Speaker 2: She's a little crazy.
- 1:30:31Speaker 6: I mean, I just didn't realize that that was a
- 1:30:34Speaker 6: big thing. And Taylor Switch, Now.
- 1:30:35Speaker 7: I would say I didn't know that either. With her,
- 1:30:38Speaker 7: it's her dancing that gets a lot of a lot
- 1:30:40Speaker 7: of flat.
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: She's a singer songwriter. Yeah, that's normally it's there was
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: a debate in our department, like two people were going
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: at it between Beyonce and h Taylor Swift who was better,
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: and like it was starting to get a little heated.
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: I had to like kind of get in there. Oh
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: ho ho yeah, yeah heated. I'm breaking up up and
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: the one person was starting to get his or her
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: feelings hurt.
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: Oh it was good.
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: That was good.
- 1:31:07Speaker 6: Good right there? Give us a damn yeah.
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: So I but like people really did, I said, I moderated,
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: and I said, listen, Taylor Swift is a singer, songwriter.
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: Beyonce is not Beyonce vocals and dancing. That's what Taylor
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: Swift did. They're both they both have something the other doesn't.
- 1:31:28Speaker 6: I hate it. That's such a balance.
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: And then I said, and they said, well, who has
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: had the biggest influence overall? I said, well, I will
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: make the comparison to the Patriots and the Chiefs. I said,
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: I said, right now, if you had to stop today,
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: if Taylor Swift never produced another song, you would say, overall,
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: Beyonce had the bigger influence. But Taylor Swift is on
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: track to surpass her if she keeps doing it.
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: I think she might already surpassed her, to be honest,
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know. Taylor Swift seems like a
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: globe phenomenal, already did the country thing, the like of
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: Wi the likes, and.
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: They both kind of reinvented themselves, you know, over time.
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: But you know, so like everybody, haas entitled to their
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: own opinion, especially when it comes to art and music
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: and entertainment.
- 1:32:16Speaker 7: I do like your your take is I would say
- 1:32:18Speaker 7: vocal beyon Oh yeah, I think Beyonce is more talented.
- 1:32:22Speaker 7: I think Taylor Swift not.
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: When it comes to songwriting.
- 1:32:25Speaker 6: It depends what you consider. It's like the athletic traits
- 1:32:28Speaker 6: that you consider.
- 1:32:30Speaker 7: Yeah, I think she's.
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: She's like I give credit to what I give credit
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: to any entertainer that writes their own songs these days.
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: You know, that's what she does.
- 1:32:37Speaker 7: She also writes songs for other people a lot of.
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: So that's a talent that Beyonce doesn't have.
- 1:32:43Speaker 4: Fair you know, But I mean Beyonce is like irreplaceable.
- 1:32:46Speaker 4: I mean it's a song.
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's there's no there's no right or wrong.
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: There's no right or wrong. Paul another Paul Uh talking
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: about the coaching hires. Please provide insight into the hir
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: rings of Doug Moron and Todd Downing. Our O line
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: and wide receiver rooms maybe the worst in the league
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: and clearly need both talent and coaching. Moron was run
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: out of Alabama and was ineffective, to say the least
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: in New Orleans. Downing has never specifically coached wide receivers
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: and has excelled at literally nothing in his twenty years
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: as a coach. These were two of the most important
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: hires aside from the coordinators, and both leave a lot
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: to be desired, that is, Paul.
- 1:33:27Speaker 7: I don't know about that. With Doug Moron. I mean,
- 1:33:29Speaker 7: I understand that there's some people that feel that way
- 1:33:33Speaker 7: about his endings in those places, but he's a pretty
- 1:33:35Speaker 7: wildly respected offensive line coach.
- 1:33:38Speaker 6: That's what I thought.
- 1:33:39Speaker 7: Oh, I got a couple decades slapped around last week
- 1:33:42Speaker 7: for that. No, I think that that's ill informed by
- 1:33:45Speaker 7: the people, So I.
- 1:33:46Speaker 6: Would say, I mean, we did talk about this a
- 1:33:47Speaker 6: little bit just now. Todd Downing, I'm a little I
- 1:33:53Speaker 6: think that's an odd hire to me. Like I know,
- 1:33:56Speaker 6: like Mike Reese had written and speculated a little bit
- 1:33:58Speaker 6: about Wes Welker to him last week.
- 1:34:00Speaker 7: I wonder if that's still a possibility.
- 1:34:03Speaker 6: Todd Downing to me, hasn't really been very effective, and
- 1:34:08Speaker 6: I know he's not gonna be calling plays, and that's
- 1:34:10Speaker 6: what he was criticized the most war But Marone I
- 1:34:14Speaker 6: feel better about as an offensive line coach than evidently most.
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: The criticism Evan when you were gone was that he
- 1:34:22Speaker 6: hasn't really been known to develop offensive lineman. He's not necessarily.
- 1:34:27Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
- 1:34:28Speaker 6: I'm always that I always thought he was just what
- 1:34:30Speaker 6: you said.
- 1:34:33Speaker 7: Was he not able to develop offensive lineman or were
- 1:34:36Speaker 7: the guys picking the groceries for him not giving him well?
- 1:34:39Speaker 6: The argument in New Orleans was that I think it's
- 1:34:43Speaker 6: Ruiz has really developed since he left.
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: I mean, maybe that's why you bring in Dante Garnekia
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: to do the individual development.
- 1:34:53Speaker 7: I just think a guy like Doug Moron has a
- 1:34:56Speaker 7: really good reputation.
- 1:34:57Speaker 6: He does and Bill Bill loved him in a.
- 1:34:59Speaker 7: Really strong rep tation across coaching, uh big, really good
- 1:35:03Speaker 7: friend with Bill O'Brien, and so that he has some
- 1:35:06Speaker 7: adjacent experience in this kind of system with Bill O'Brien.
- 1:35:11Speaker 7: I just I don't have any worries at all about
- 1:35:14Speaker 7: Doug Maroon. The Todd Downing hired seems to me to
- 1:35:18Speaker 7: be more like he's going to be like the high
- 1:35:20Speaker 7: level teaching the concepts of the offense, because it is
- 1:35:23Speaker 7: a very conceptual, uh, you know, heavy offense in terms
- 1:35:28Speaker 7: of the mental load on receivers. So I looked at
- 1:35:31Speaker 7: him as more of a guy that's going to come
- 1:35:32Speaker 7: in and teach the plays and teach the concepts of
- 1:35:35Speaker 7: the offense. So I wonder if Wes Welker is still
- 1:35:37Speaker 7: in play as an assistant to come in and actually
- 1:35:41Speaker 7: teach the wide receiver elements, you know, releases, top of
- 1:35:44Speaker 7: the route, you know that that sort of technique kind
- 1:35:47Speaker 7: of things. I would think that maybe they're still higher.
- 1:35:51Speaker 7: Dont forget the adjustment, you know, it's it's two different things,
- 1:35:54Speaker 7: right Like, it's you know, like the past game as
- 1:35:57Speaker 7: a whole and then all and then teaching technique of
- 1:36:01Speaker 7: wide receiver routes and things like that. And I wonder
- 1:36:03Speaker 7: if there's another hire still to come in terms of that.
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: What's going on in that coaching staff? John says, supposedly
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: Evan knows ball, why is he pushing Travis Hunter rather
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: than a left tackle. The passing game does not improve
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: without a franchise left tackle, and there are no franchise
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: left tackles and free agency.
- 1:36:22Speaker 7: When did I say that?
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: Are you pushing Travis Hunter over Will Campbell?
- 1:36:28Speaker 6: Ask me?
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: After the combine rearly, the combine makes that much of
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: a difference to you.
- 1:36:34Speaker 7: His arm light makes a major difference. If Will Campbell
- 1:36:37Speaker 7: has he stretches those babies out and we get to
- 1:36:40Speaker 7: thirty three inches, I'm in if he's going to be
- 1:36:43Speaker 7: at thirty two and one eighth he's a guard.
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: But shouldn't the tape tell you more of the fact
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: that he wasn't the first strike guy? And you know,
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: because that's what I read that he's not the kind
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: of guy who can you know, win on that first strike.
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: He has to But if hitting with his fet which
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: is fine, if he has the requisite you can overcome it.
- 1:37:03Speaker 7: Though if he does have the requisite length and maybe
- 1:37:06Speaker 7: he's just not getting the proper coaching to maximize his
- 1:37:09Speaker 7: length and maximize that element, you know, it doesn't matter
- 1:37:13Speaker 7: to me honestly right now, I just I need to
- 1:37:16Speaker 7: see where we're at with the combine. I understand there's
- 1:37:19Speaker 7: a lot of interest in the draft. It's very very early,
- 1:37:22Speaker 7: like there's a long way to go. We still don't
- 1:37:25Speaker 7: have measurements on all these guys, which I do think
- 1:37:27Speaker 7: matters for the line. There's a lot of interviews, there's
- 1:37:30Speaker 7: a lot of pro days, there's a lot of combine,
- 1:37:32Speaker 7: there's a lot of things to start.
- 1:37:33Speaker 6: If he measures as a tackle, you would say Will Campbell, Yeah,
- 1:37:38Speaker 6: so I would just as a In your defense, I
- 1:37:41Speaker 6: think you have been high on Will Campbell, probably higher
- 1:37:44Speaker 6: than Mike and ild Yeah. I just there's one thing
- 1:37:46Speaker 6: I want to push back on, not necessarily this email,
- 1:37:49Speaker 6: but there was a premise here. We got something similar
- 1:37:52Speaker 6: in a mail bag question this week, the idea that
- 1:37:56Speaker 6: you take one guy over another because that one guy
- 1:38:00Speaker 6: that you don't want to take isn't going to be
- 1:38:02Speaker 6: the difference in making you significantly. But no one guy
- 1:38:04Speaker 6: is going to turn this around. Right, So if you
- 1:38:08Speaker 6: think that it's more important to build the offensive line first, great,
- 1:38:12Speaker 6: I'm not I'm not gonna argue with you. You might
- 1:38:13Speaker 6: be right if you think taking the wide receiver first,
- 1:38:16Speaker 6: or an edge rusher for whatever it is. You know,
- 1:38:20Speaker 6: one of the question we've got in the mailbag was
- 1:38:23Speaker 6: Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter on last year's team wouldn't
- 1:38:27Speaker 6: have significantly improved the record. Yeah, I agree, it wouldn't have,
- 1:38:31Speaker 6: but that's not why I don't take them. Is Abdul
- 1:38:34Speaker 6: Carter better than my options?
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: Right?
- 1:38:36Speaker 6: Then I want to take them because my idea is
- 1:38:38Speaker 6: don't overthink it. My idea is I'm going to take
- 1:38:40Speaker 6: somebody at four. Who's going to take me from four
- 1:38:43Speaker 6: to thirteen to thirteen and four. That's not going to happen.
- 1:38:46Speaker 6: One guy is not going.
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: To do that.
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: It's one step at a time.
- 1:38:49Speaker 6: The idea is to accumulate as many talented players as
- 1:38:53Speaker 6: as they can. Because I think you're the same guy
- 1:38:56Speaker 6: that we talked about with the offensive line, Steve Palizzolo.
- 1:38:59Speaker 6: I think is that my pronouncing that correctly? He No,
- 1:39:04Speaker 6: he's I think he's independent third team. Okay, he's the
- 1:39:11Speaker 6: one that had the line about you know, you just
- 1:39:13Speaker 6: need the offensive line not to be bad, right, So
- 1:39:16Speaker 6: that that's where he was coming from. But they asked
- 1:39:18Speaker 6: him to rate the roster and he estimates it's bottom
- 1:39:21Speaker 6: three in the league talent wise. One guy's not going
- 1:39:25Speaker 6: to fix that, right, So if you think, well, we
- 1:39:28Speaker 6: got to take Will Campbell because you can't have it.
- 1:39:32Speaker 6: Tom to parrot this email, you can't have a passing
- 1:39:36Speaker 6: game without a left tackle. Well, you can't have one
- 1:39:38Speaker 6: with no wide receivers either, right, And even if you
- 1:39:41Speaker 6: have great protection, those guys aren't going to be all
- 1:39:44Speaker 6: that great because they're not great players. You need playmakers,
- 1:39:47Speaker 6: you need good protection, you need guys that can get
- 1:39:50Speaker 6: out to the passer, you need everything.
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: Don't overthink it when the guy's there that can help you,
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: and he's the best guy available. Take.
- 1:39:57Speaker 6: And I don't think you're wrong for suggesting that Will
- 1:40:00Speaker 6: Campbell makes more sense than Travis Hunter. I'm not arguing
- 1:40:03Speaker 6: with that. That might be act that I might feel
- 1:40:05Speaker 6: the same way. If Evan's right about Will Campbell's ability
- 1:40:09Speaker 6: to play tackle, he could sway me. And you guys
- 1:40:12Speaker 6: know I don't generally get swayed, but that mentality could
- 1:40:15Speaker 6: sway me. I just don't think that that automatically means
- 1:40:18Speaker 6: my offense is better now because I have a left tackle.
- 1:40:21Speaker 6: That's part of it. That's how you get better by
- 1:40:23Speaker 6: getting better players.
- 1:40:24Speaker 7: I would say the only guy that I am pretty
- 1:40:27Speaker 7: much had no on right now for is Tech McMillan, like,
- 1:40:29Speaker 7: that's pretty much the only guy that I would say
- 1:40:31Speaker 7: it would be disappointed, Like even Mason Graham, like I
- 1:40:35Speaker 7: wouldn't love it, but I could see the player. I
- 1:40:37Speaker 7: can see the talent and the idea of the player.
- 1:40:40Speaker 7: Ted McMillan is the only guy that I'd sit here
- 1:40:43Speaker 7: today and I'm like at four. Note, I just.
- 1:40:45Speaker 6: Want to be confident in the fact that whoever they take,
- 1:40:49Speaker 6: they think is the best player, whether it's Mason Graham
- 1:40:53Speaker 6: or Travis Hunter or Abdull Carter or Will Campbell, whoever.
- 1:40:57Speaker 6: And if you think McMillan's not in that category.
- 1:40:59Speaker 7: Fine, I think it's those Fine.
- 1:41:01Speaker 6: I just wanted to be confident that whatever guy that
- 1:41:03Speaker 6: they pick, they're one convinced is the best of those
- 1:41:07Speaker 6: four players.
- 1:41:08Speaker 7: Yep, I think it's those four. I think those four
- 1:41:10Speaker 7: guys right now are the ones that I would say
- 1:41:12Speaker 7: or are really the group that I would consider the
- 1:41:15Speaker 7: draft four. Now, if they trade down, that obviously expands
- 1:41:18Speaker 7: the group, but those four, and you know, I'll still
- 1:41:22Speaker 7: say it. I think Campbell can play tackle. I think
- 1:41:24Speaker 7: that Travis Hunter can play wide receiver, and I would
- 1:41:27Speaker 7: play them at wide receiver.
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: Okay, speaking Fresna, I wonder if we'll have another consequential
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: holding episode as we've had in the past three Super Bowls.
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: He's talking about penalties holding penalties in the Super Bowl.
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: I'm not saying it's fixed, but there at least seems
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: to be a pattern of utter incompetence. Three years ago,
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: it was the phantom hold of Cup on third and
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: goal to give the Rams a winning score late in
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: fourth quarter, a total makeup for the t Higgins face
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: mask of Ramsey coming out of halftime. Rams win. Two
- 1:41:56Speaker 2: years ago was the phantom holding call on James Bradbury
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: on third and eight late in the fourth quarter, Chiefs win.
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: And then it's switched up last year when the Zebras
- 1:42:04Speaker 2: elected not to call a million holes by Donovan Smith
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: and Jawan Taylor Chiefs win.
- 1:42:11Speaker 6: I don't know those are my favorites.
- 1:42:14Speaker 4: It's I'm sorry to think though, it's impossible that this
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: game is going to go by without people.
- 1:42:18Speaker 6: This is why, because regardless of the out regardless of
- 1:42:22Speaker 6: the outcome, this is good. It's if they don't call it,
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: it's they let it go. So if that's the premise,
- 1:42:29Speaker 6: then I kind of agree with Feliger. There's no way
- 1:42:30Speaker 6: that the referees can win. Like if you're going to
- 1:42:33Speaker 6: complain when they call it, and then complain when they
- 1:42:35Speaker 6: don't call it, what do you like, they can't win.
- 1:42:41Speaker 6: And if you think it's fixed, it's fixed. I mean
- 1:42:43Speaker 6: I can't. No one can convince you it's not fixed.
- 1:42:46Speaker 6: Like that's Jim Murray. Like Jim Murray legitimately.
- 1:42:49Speaker 7: He legitimately, he doesn't legitimately.
- 1:42:51Speaker 6: He legitimately thinks it's fixed. I'm just telling you he
- 1:42:54Speaker 6: thinks these shots the bit part of it. Oh how
- 1:42:59Speaker 6: about the story about the the MLB umpire yesterday? Oh yeah,
- 1:43:03Speaker 6: oh no, I know it's impossible for it to be fixed.
- 1:43:06Speaker 6: Like this is where like these guys, this is how what.
- 1:43:09Speaker 2: Was he doing?
- 1:43:10Speaker 7: He was can make an access to he had a
- 1:43:12Speaker 7: sports book account.
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:43:14Speaker 7: I don't think they found any actual bets.
- 1:43:16Speaker 6: Oh of course they haven't. But just like Tim Donaghie
- 1:43:20Speaker 6: didn't have any.
- 1:43:20Speaker 7: But he has an account with one of the sports books.
- 1:43:23Speaker 6: And contact with someone who had access to this account
- 1:43:26Speaker 6: or something like that. Like this is again, I don't
- 1:43:30Speaker 6: If you're asking me, gun to my head, do I
- 1:43:32Speaker 6: think these games are fixed? I'm going to say no,
- 1:43:34Speaker 6: but I don't just miss out of hand these possibilities.
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: I said it before one did you get to these people?
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: One of the things these sports books have to do today.
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: No more under prop bets.
- 1:43:45Speaker 7: Yeah, that's going on.
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: It's too easily to manipulate the under rip terror. Just
- 1:43:50Speaker 2: I'm hurt. I can't play anymore. So you know, no
- 1:43:54Speaker 2: more under prop bets. Just eliminate them. Period.
- 1:43:59Speaker 7: You heard the Terriers thing.
- 1:44:00Speaker 6: Right, Yeah, I know the the investigation going on, but
- 1:44:04Speaker 6: I'm not I mean, I don't know.
- 1:44:08Speaker 7: Uh.
- 1:44:09Speaker 2: John and Plymouth says that Travis Hunter is overrated. He
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: says in caps, I trade down to nine and take
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: a left tackle.
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: Okay, Well, is there a.
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: Chance that Travis Hunter is overrated?
- 1:44:21Speaker 7: No?
- 1:44:21Speaker 2: No, no, no, of.
- 1:44:23Speaker 6: Course there is no. How do you know he's that good?
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: Overrated at what position? Or just overall?
- 1:44:30Speaker 6: I think I'm old enough to remember Peter Warwick. Fred.
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's the real deal at cornerback.
- 1:44:36Speaker 7: Yeah, at the very least he's the real deal.
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: I don't know about wide receiver.
- 1:44:40Speaker 7: He has a higher floor at cornerback. I don't think
- 1:44:42Speaker 7: that there's a world where he's a bad cornerback. I
- 1:44:45Speaker 7: just think that he's a good enough receiver that I'd
- 1:44:47Speaker 7: give him a chance to play receiver, to hit the bigger,
- 1:44:50Speaker 7: the bigger.
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: Where's this bigger ceiling though higher.
- 1:44:53Speaker 7: Receiver, But just that's just because the position, you know,
- 1:44:56Speaker 7: inherently it's a bigger it's a more impact position. Like
- 1:44:59Speaker 7: if he goes on to be a true top ten
- 1:45:01Speaker 7: receiver in the league, that's more impactful in my opinion,
- 1:45:03Speaker 7: than being a top ten corner.
- 1:45:05Speaker 6: I do like that we're getting a lot of different
- 1:45:06Speaker 6: opinions on this stuff, Like from the listeners, you know,
- 1:45:09Speaker 6: he's overrated, No, you got to take Will Campbell. No,
- 1:45:12Speaker 6: you got to trade down and take Will Campbell at four.
- 1:45:14Speaker 7: Well, that's kind of draft more interesting. Last year it
- 1:45:18Speaker 7: was just like Drake Mayor.
- 1:45:19Speaker 6: Right, and I said that, you know, like general in
- 1:45:22Speaker 6: general terms, I let you guys, you know, sort of
- 1:45:24Speaker 6: go hog wild with all your mock drafts and stuff.
- 1:45:26Speaker 6: But this year it's it's not so much about like
- 1:45:30Speaker 6: the mock draft that doesn't really interest me at all,
- 1:45:33Speaker 6: But what's going to happen, Like do the quarterbacks get
- 1:45:36Speaker 6: taken in the top three, How that impacts the teams
- 1:45:40Speaker 6: that are you know, will there be a team maybe Cleveland,
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: the Giants in Tennessee aren't interested in quarterbacks. But does
- 1:45:48Speaker 6: you know a team like the Raiders or someone else
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: look at it differently and say, I got to get
- 1:45:52Speaker 6: up into the top three. I got it, you know,
- 1:45:54Speaker 6: I got to find a way to get up and
- 1:45:55Speaker 6: take them. I think that is intriguing for a draft,
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: and I don't think anybody has an idea of how
- 1:46:01Speaker 6: this is going to go yet.
- 1:46:02Speaker 7: I think that's the most intriguing part is it's almost
- 1:46:05Speaker 7: like a game of chicken of like the teams like
- 1:46:08Speaker 7: the Raiders the Saints, like they're going to be teams
- 1:46:10Speaker 7: in the back half of the top ten that need quarterbacks,
- 1:46:13Speaker 7: And do they call the bluff of the teams in
- 1:46:16Speaker 7: the top five and say, we don't. You're not going
- 1:46:18Speaker 7: to actually draft Shador Sanders third overall, So we're not
- 1:46:22Speaker 7: going to give you a boatload of draft picks to
- 1:46:25Speaker 7: jump ahead of you because we don't actually think they'll
- 1:46:27Speaker 7: do it when push comes to shove and they'll just
- 1:46:29Speaker 7: kind of wait it out and be patient, or do
- 1:46:31Speaker 7: they get antsy and they go up and get the call.
- 1:46:33Speaker 6: Go back to your quarterback stuff that you started when
- 1:46:36Speaker 6: Fred was asking you all your thoughts about the seeable
- 1:46:39Speaker 6: Jackson Dart. So you're not you're not a huge you're
- 1:46:43Speaker 6: not a huge fan. Yeah, but it was seven on
- 1:46:46Speaker 6: seven if you're a Raiders team or you know, one
- 1:46:49Speaker 6: of those teams, like I don't have a quarterback, but
- 1:46:51Speaker 6: I'm not really in position to get one, you know,
- 1:46:54Speaker 6: ye Flyer, do you sit there and say, well, I'm
- 1:46:57Speaker 6: not going to force it. I'm not going to give
- 1:46:58Speaker 6: up resources to get up and get your door Sanders
- 1:47:01Speaker 6: who's There's a lot of varying opinions on. But maybe
- 1:47:05Speaker 6: I sit tight and in the second or third round
- 1:47:07Speaker 6: I have this guy fall into my lap. Yeah, Jackson
- 1:47:11Speaker 6: Dark Yeah, And I don't know. I mean, I think
- 1:47:13Speaker 6: I talk yourself a bit likely.
- 1:47:14Speaker 7: I think that they're Dart mill Row Howard from Ohio State. Like,
- 1:47:20Speaker 7: I think those guys are worthy day two, you know,
- 1:47:23Speaker 7: mid round flyers like.
- 1:47:26Speaker 6: His hands are evidently tiny.
- 1:47:29Speaker 7: But those guys I think have some upside and have
- 1:47:31Speaker 7: you know, some some traits that you could work with
- 1:47:33Speaker 7: that if you want to just throw the lottery ticket
- 1:47:36Speaker 7: out and in the fourth round on oh, you know whatever.
- 1:47:40Speaker 7: I think Milroy will go higher than that, But I
- 1:47:42Speaker 7: do too wherever he goes. I could see that. I
- 1:47:45Speaker 7: just I think there's really only two quarterbacks that have
- 1:47:47Speaker 7: any chance of going high, and that's Cam Morton's door.
- 1:47:50Speaker 7: But I think that those other quarterbacks will be more realistic.
- 1:47:55Speaker 2: So the Raiders need a quarterback. And there's a report
- 1:47:59Speaker 2: that Chip Kelly's going to be coming in to be
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: their O c oh.
- 1:48:01Speaker 6: No six million dollars.
- 1:48:03Speaker 5: So does that happen.
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: If Chip Kelly has to say, does he say we
- 1:48:08Speaker 2: got to move up and get Marcus Mariota.
- 1:48:12Speaker 7: Well, his quarterback in college is Will Howard with the Ohio
- 1:48:14Speaker 7: State had a really good playoff. I don't know. I mean,
- 1:48:18Speaker 7: I don't know how much influence he'll have.
- 1:48:20Speaker 6: Maybe he does what I just said, only instead of
- 1:48:22Speaker 6: Dart it's Howard. Is no need to waste any resources.
- 1:48:27Speaker 6: We'll get this guy in day two some point. He
- 1:48:29Speaker 6: can run my offense, and he can run my offense.
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:48:32Speaker 4: I just think from the Patriots perspective, like you guys said,
- 1:48:34Speaker 4: we're looking at four guys. But if like it's suddenly
- 1:48:37Speaker 4: a trade down happens all of a sudden, all these
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: options open up that I feel like we'll probably spend
- 1:48:41Speaker 4: little to no time talking about this spring, the guys
- 1:48:44Speaker 4: from Georgia. We were talking about Mike Gave, guy from Marshall.
- 1:48:46Speaker 4: I mean, a lot of maybe just a tier below
- 1:48:50Speaker 4: some of the names we're talking about in terms of
- 1:48:52Speaker 4: edge or uh you know, those kind of players. But
- 1:48:55Speaker 4: there's a lot that I like in that mid in
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: that mid first round that that could still really be
- 1:48:59Speaker 4: helpful and then striguing and maybe you pick up an
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: extra second round pick and then you hit a couple
- 1:49:04Speaker 4: times in that really you know the best part of
- 1:49:05Speaker 4: that that of this draft.
- 1:49:07Speaker 7: Jalen Walker from Georgia. Yeah, screams rable linebacker, can play
- 1:49:12Speaker 7: on the line, can play off the line, can rush
- 1:49:14Speaker 7: the passer a little bit. He's not as big as
- 1:49:17Speaker 7: as High Tower, but that can kind of be played
- 1:49:19Speaker 7: in a similar role at High Tower, and that that
- 1:49:23Speaker 7: kind of player just you know, if you're looking for.
- 1:49:26Speaker 7: But the things that they talked about, effort, finish, leadership,
- 1:49:29Speaker 7: like all those types of intangibles too. He just has
- 1:49:33Speaker 7: checks a lot of those different boxes. And he's he's smaller.
- 1:49:35Speaker 7: He's only like two forty two forty five, so he's
- 1:49:37Speaker 7: a little bit new agy at that position. He's not
- 1:49:40Speaker 7: two sixty like High Tower was.
- 1:49:42Speaker 4: So I feel like the tackles too. We talked about
- 1:49:43Speaker 4: Josh Simmons from OSU, who you know, was hurt. I mean,
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: you know, I mean, I think there's a chance that
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: that guy's the best tackle of this all, this whole group,
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: you know. So, I don't know. I just we're gonna
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: get so focused on these main guys that there are
- 1:49:54Speaker 4: other interesting guys out there. I think they could help.
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: Mickey Kirk and rights in. First of all, Friday, I
- 1:49:59Speaker 2: love your eye Irish accent when you read out any
- 1:50:01Speaker 2: of my emails is as good as your Dan Shaughnessy impression.
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: Hypothetical scenario for a wide receiver coach. Let's say Josh
- 1:50:08Speaker 2: has his guy and Rabel has a different guy in mine,
- 1:50:11Speaker 2: both equally good candidates who should have final say Josh
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: as oc who will be working with the coach daily
- 1:50:18Speaker 2: or Rabel as head coach.
- 1:50:21Speaker 4: Well, I mean, I I'll throw it what I read
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: today from Badard, and he reported exactly on this and
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: said that Rabel wasn't even in the meeting. He wanted
- 1:50:28Speaker 4: Josh McDaniels to come to this decision on his own.
- 1:50:30Speaker 4: That's what reporting is.
- 1:50:33Speaker 7: Yeah, I would said rather it be Josh's decision, But
- 1:50:35Speaker 7: that doesn't mean that I want the band back together.
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: Like, so Josh on his own chose Rabel's guy from Tennessee.
- 1:50:43Speaker 6: That's what I believe.
- 1:50:45Speaker 2: I come on, really, it's like, Josh, this is your decision.
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: Here's the guy. Like, doesn't it seem that way?
- 1:50:54Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm not as worried about wide receivers coach as
- 1:50:56Speaker 7: offensive line coach. Like I think that those offensive line
- 1:50:59Speaker 7: coach coordinator I think need to really be in tandem,
- 1:51:02Speaker 7: Like I think that needs to.
- 1:51:03Speaker 6: Be Josh was like really tight with Dante.
- 1:51:06Speaker 7: Yeah, Dante Carmen Brisillo, like you need to be syncd up.
- 1:51:10Speaker 7: Put those in those two ways, and I do think
- 1:51:12Speaker 7: Doug moron Is is more in the middle of it
- 1:51:17Speaker 7: has some some you know, branches touching both coaches, So
- 1:51:21Speaker 7: that does make me feel better.
- 1:51:24Speaker 2: I'm not sure I unders Anthony and Delaware says, what's
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: the difference between if Bill was still here and hired
- 1:51:31Speaker 2: Josh as pass game coordinator or some other title besides
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: offensive coordinator, do the Raiders still pay his entire salary?
- 1:51:38Speaker 2: I see that the Patriots are paying Josh some money,
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: but I assume next year they pay him in full.
- 1:51:45Speaker 6: If Bill was here.
- 1:51:47Speaker 2: So if Bill was.
- 1:51:47Speaker 6: Here, he wouldn't have anything to do with Bill.
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: He wouldn't give him the title of offensive coordinator. He
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: give him some other title. So they pay him less
- 1:51:55Speaker 2: and have the Raiders pay more.
- 1:51:57Speaker 6: No, that's not the way it works. I'm gonna there's
- 1:52:02Speaker 6: a lot of stuff in that story that I'm not
- 1:52:04Speaker 6: really gonna touch on.
- 1:52:05Speaker 2: Oh, okay, like that Bdard story. Oh I didn't even
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: know he had a story. Oh yeah, yeah, I.
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: Mean there's a lot of information in it.
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: And okay, yeah. Also, Mark from the Bay came up
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: in old episodes. He definitely owes you guys a few lunches.
- 1:52:21Speaker 2: Pretty sure he was a big bitcoin guy back then.
- 1:52:25Speaker 6: I think he was.
- 1:52:26Speaker 2: Yeah, he doesn't call anymore.
- 1:52:27Speaker 6: That's probably why.
- 1:52:28Speaker 4: Was he the one that harass Eric?
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Oh, Eric had no tolerance for him. He
- 1:52:34Speaker 2: wouldn't even let it get a word out edge.
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: Wise, just go right into it.
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's good, Kylon Pembroke. Why is McMillan a No.
- 1:52:41Speaker 2: At four for you? Evan Ceiling?
- 1:52:46Speaker 7: I just don't really love the player. I think he
- 1:52:49Speaker 7: the best comp that I would have with Ted is
- 1:52:52Speaker 7: like a Drake London type, maybe even to Higgins like
- 1:52:56Speaker 7: good players. Like I'm not saying that those are that
- 1:52:58Speaker 7: they're bad players. I just I don't think that they're
- 1:53:01Speaker 7: fourth overall players. Like, if you're gonna draft a receiver
- 1:53:03Speaker 7: that high, I expect him to be Jamar Chase. You know,
- 1:53:06Speaker 7: I don't expect him to be Drake London.
- 1:53:08Speaker 4: You know I'm with you too. I just I mean,
- 1:53:10Speaker 4: I've been said it since since the season. I want explosiveness.
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: I want guys who are gonna change the speed of
- 1:53:14Speaker 4: this team. And I think he's a nice piece. He's
- 1:53:17Speaker 4: a complimentary piece on the right team where you have
- 1:53:19Speaker 4: an inside receiver who's really fast and can do a
- 1:53:22Speaker 4: number of things. Like, yeah, that's a good complimentary piece.
- 1:53:24Speaker 4: I'd love to have him on the team. They're not
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: there yet. That's a couple moves down the road for me.
- 1:53:28Speaker 4: I just I don't think he moves the needle enough
- 1:53:30Speaker 4: for Drake maybe in the red zone. You know, he's
- 1:53:32Speaker 4: a big target to throw too. That's a plus, But
- 1:53:35Speaker 4: I'm looking more at the guys with speed this year.
- 1:53:37Speaker 4: That's what i want. Speed, speed, speed.
- 1:53:38Speaker 7: Yeah, he's a possession receiver. If he's not. He's not
- 1:53:42Speaker 7: a take the top off the receiver. And I'm not
- 1:53:45Speaker 7: necessarily in love with needing that, but it's just when
- 1:53:49Speaker 7: I watch him, I just don't necessarily see game changer
- 1:53:52Speaker 7: on film with him. I see a nice receiver, but
- 1:53:54Speaker 7: I don't see that. And if I'm gonna draft a
- 1:53:57Speaker 7: receiver that high, it needs to be game changer.
- 1:54:01Speaker 2: Ben and Brooklyn's trying to get creative to get Miles.
- 1:54:03Speaker 2: Garrett says, rather than the Patriots sending picks to Cleveland,
- 1:54:07Speaker 2: would the Browns be interested that the Patriots also took
- 1:54:10Speaker 2: on Watson and then released him and then released him.
- 1:54:15Speaker 2: Others have pointed out that the Patriots twenty twenty five
- 1:54:17Speaker 2: pick doesn't help much since Cleveland already has a high pick,
- 1:54:21Speaker 2: and they might want to do the trade post June
- 1:54:23Speaker 2: one for cap considerations. Patriots might also need to send
- 1:54:27Speaker 2: back salary, so this deal would need additional tweaking. Who
- 1:54:30Speaker 2: says no Patriots, Yeah.
- 1:54:33Speaker 4: Yeah, but I get it. I just that's a player
- 1:54:35Speaker 4: they need. That's like they need that kind of player.
- 1:54:38Speaker 6: There was no trade there. I mean, it was just Watson.
- 1:54:40Speaker 6: Usually it's not going to be so we're going to
- 1:54:42Speaker 6: give us Watson in Garrett, we're giving nothing, but we're
- 1:54:46Speaker 6: just paying.
- 1:54:46Speaker 7: Well, it's like a baseball trade there right, where like
- 1:54:48Speaker 7: you give up less, you give it.
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: You take on salary.
- 1:54:51Speaker 6: No I know, but like I just I need to
- 1:54:52Speaker 6: know what the less is like, is all the Patriots
- 1:54:54Speaker 6: giving up his money? Yeah, like they're paying Watson.
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: That's it.
- 1:54:57Speaker 6: I don't think that that, you know, I don't. That's
- 1:55:00Speaker 6: the one that was proposed to us in as BFWY.
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: They'll put them up. A tropical smoothie doesn't have to
- 1:55:04Speaker 4: play for the football team.
- 1:55:05Speaker 2: You can just you know, market fall wherever. The big
- 1:55:08Speaker 2: conversation has been the Chiefs and the refs. I know
- 1:55:11Speaker 2: the Patriots benefited from a lot of calls, and I
- 1:55:13Speaker 2: don't really think the fix is in for the Chiefs.
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: I do think the conversation is missing an important piece though.
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: To me, the most egregious refereeing surrounding the Chiefs is
- 1:55:22Speaker 2: the lack of offensive pass interference calls. It seems like
- 1:55:25Speaker 2: they run illegal pick plays and don't get called for
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: it at least five times a game. It reminds me
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: of the early Patriots dynasty. Just on the other side
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: of the ball. They are physical and they are going
- 1:55:36Speaker 2: to keep doing it and make the refs call it.
- 1:55:38Speaker 2: You guys certainly watch all twenty two more than I do.
- 1:55:41Speaker 2: Do you agree? Wasn't that an issue when that championship
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: game that we beat them and can't?
- 1:55:46Speaker 7: Bill definitely feels the same way.
- 1:55:48Speaker 6: Yeah, Sammy Watkins got opened late in that game on
- 1:55:51Speaker 6: the one that the tying field goal on a blatant pick, right,
- 1:55:54Speaker 6: which is basically the entirety of the Patriots passing game, Like,
- 1:55:57Speaker 6: that's what That's.
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: Why there's there was between a rub and a pick.
- 1:56:01Speaker 6: I totally agree, right right, I totally agree. And Andy
- 1:56:07Speaker 6: Reid and Bill Belichick executed that stuff better than anyone,
- 1:56:12Speaker 6: and that's why that's another to me. That's another similarity
- 1:56:15Speaker 6: between their two their dominance because they both get away
- 1:56:20Speaker 6: with a lot of that. They're very and the Chiefs
- 1:56:23Speaker 6: absolutely get away with a lot of it.
- 1:56:26Speaker 2: Jeff in Canada, I see on social media that our
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: ex coach has a new book out, The Art of Winning.
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: I can only assume that the first chapters title draft
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: Tom Brady. Sorry, Bill, but you took shots at us,
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: so we have to fire back. Is anyone I've already
- 1:56:44Speaker 2: publisher is the title of the Art of Winning a
- 1:56:46Speaker 2: head nod to the Art of War, Suz.
- 1:56:56Speaker 6: What did you call it?
- 1:56:59Speaker 2: I love so winning that it's a nod to that.
- 1:57:04Speaker 7: So yeah, I mean I think Amanda Belichick actually.
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: The game is won before it's played.
- 1:57:09Speaker 7: Yeah, I think that's what she tweeted when she quote
- 1:57:12Speaker 7: tweeted Amanda when she quote tweeted the book announcement.
- 1:57:16Speaker 2: I didn't know.
- 1:57:16Speaker 7: I think she quote tweeted it with the Heart of War.
- 1:57:19Speaker 4: Heart of War. I asked Bill a handful of questions
- 1:57:22Speaker 4: while he was here during my time, and one of
- 1:57:24Speaker 4: them was just about the evolution of this game plan offense.
- 1:57:27Speaker 4: And I asked him about that and those right, first
- 1:57:29Speaker 4: thing he went to with Wells the Art of War.
- 1:57:32Speaker 4: Every battle is one before it's fought, and that's it's
- 1:57:35Speaker 4: always been one of his things. That wasn't surprised to
- 1:57:37Speaker 4: see that be his title for sure. But I'll read it.
- 1:57:39Speaker 4: Don't worry everybody, Yeah, tell us about it. I'll do
- 1:57:42Speaker 4: a diarhella for you.
- 1:57:43Speaker 6: Thank goodness so much.
- 1:57:45Speaker 2: Do we know, like, is it just going to be
- 1:57:47Speaker 2: X and O's like focused on preparation and all that
- 1:57:50Speaker 2: type of stuff.
- 1:57:51Speaker 7: I kind of got the impression that it's more going
- 1:57:53Speaker 7: to be philosophy. No it's not. And I don't think
- 1:57:56Speaker 7: it's going to be like why did he bench Malcolm Butler?
- 1:57:58Speaker 2: No, No, I don't think it's gonna be like that's
- 1:58:02Speaker 2: gonna be posting the post career, which I gotta say,
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: like generally I don't like these books because it's just like, well,
- 1:58:08Speaker 2: I did it right, So here's how I did, and
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: this is how it should be done, you know, the
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: right for Brett, Well, he wanted forward by Mike Lombardi.
- 1:58:18Speaker 7: It doesn't say that it's good it's written by anybody.
- 1:58:20Speaker 7: It says written by Bill Belichick. So I mean he
- 1:58:22Speaker 7: could have had a ghostwriter, but it's not like it's
- 1:58:24Speaker 7: like written by somebody on behalf of Bill your book?

- 1:58:44Speaker 7: tells me, how I.
- 1:58:45Speaker 2: Suppose the experiences you had when you weren't living, all right,
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: that's gonna be it. Nothing that's gonna be it for
