- 0:00Speaker 1: Boulet Cap Podcast. We got a special guest, Marlon kraft Man. Welcome, sir,
- 0:05Speaker 1: Thank you for having me. Man. Yes, you and I
- 0:07Speaker 1: have been talking and pandemic happened, and I was like,
- 0:11Speaker 1: when you come to LA and you're finally here, I'm
- 0:15Speaker 1: finally here. It was like I took like a two
- 0:16Speaker 1: or three year break from coming out here. I was like,
- 0:19Speaker 1: it's good to be back. I love it. Man. Yeah,
- 0:21Speaker 1: I mean obviously uh yeah, I mean you had a
- 0:25Speaker 1: great pandemic though, I mean obviously not I'm talking about career.
- 0:30Speaker 1: It sucked. No, but I feel like you like leveled
- 0:34Speaker 1: up crazy during like that time period, if you will,
- 0:37Speaker 1: not to sound insensitive, you know, but like, yeah, I
- 0:39Speaker 1: mean the pandemic wasn't bad for you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I was like I was able to find a lot
- 0:44Speaker 1: of I went back independent, and I was able to
- 0:46Speaker 1: kind of really find hone in on my strategy and
- 0:49Speaker 1: kind of figure out who I wanted to be and
- 0:51Speaker 1: just kind of set up like a three year type
- 0:54Speaker 1: of plan that I'm kind of in like year three
- 0:56Speaker 1: of Yeah. Explain that though, because like before you were
- 1:00Speaker 1: you not independent at a certain point in time, or
- 1:02Speaker 1: did what was what was your prior situation. I was
- 1:05Speaker 1: at a thing called same Play. It was like a
- 1:08Speaker 1: JV at sony okay for that Funhouse Mirror album. Yep, yep, okay.
- 1:13Speaker 1: So you get out of that deal, and then what
- 1:16Speaker 1: walk me through your three year plan? And obviously it's
- 1:19Speaker 1: been it's worked, so we should Yeah, what was the plan? Yeah?
- 1:23Speaker 1: I mean I just realized I learned a lot from
- 1:25Speaker 1: being in that situation, and I realized what I had
- 1:28Speaker 1: to do, and I was just like, you know, I
- 1:31Speaker 1: need to move at a pace where I could be consistent,
- 1:33Speaker 1: and especially during the pandemic when we were stuck at home,
- 1:36Speaker 1: like all I could do was make music. So I
- 1:38Speaker 1: just had this stock pile of music and all these
- 1:40Speaker 1: different projects going, and I was like, I'm going to
- 1:42Speaker 1: figure out how to just be really kind of relentlessly consistent,
- 1:46Speaker 1: but combine that with keeping everything quality and keeping it
- 1:49Speaker 1: conceptual and keeping it me and and I'm just gonna
- 1:53Speaker 1: build it and have faith in you know, doing it
- 1:55Speaker 1: like that. And That's what I've kind of been doing. Yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 1: So for you, it was like, because a lot of
- 2:00Speaker 1: artists there's something kind of just viral semi viral recently,
- 2:04Speaker 1: I don't know if you saw like Russ was telling everybody,
- 2:08Speaker 1: if you're on the come up in music, drop consistently,
- 2:11Speaker 1: don't sit on your music. Somebody had like made a
- 2:15Speaker 1: response and pretty much said it's terrible advice. And so
- 2:18Speaker 1: for you, it was like, Yo, why am I sitting
- 2:21Speaker 1: on all this music? You obviously you're recording at home
- 2:24Speaker 1: at the time, Yeah, recording yourself. So it's like like
- 2:29Speaker 1: a lot of people they do sit on their music,
- 2:31Speaker 1: or they overthink releasing their music, or they I think
- 2:35Speaker 1: everybody is like very not everybody, but a lot of
- 2:38Speaker 1: artists get wrapped up in like perfection and like a
- 2:43Speaker 1: lot of things having to be checked off before they
- 2:46Speaker 1: think they can release something. That's not always the case. Yeah,
- 2:49Speaker 1: I mean, so there's a couple of things with that,
- 2:51Speaker 1: like and your quality is high. It's not like you're
- 2:53Speaker 1: doing like quantity of a quality. You're doing both. It's
- 2:55Speaker 1: hard to do. Yeah, that I think is the key,
- 2:57Speaker 1: and I appreciate that. I think, like I grew up
- 3:00Speaker 1: admiring like the Coles and the Kendricks and these different
- 3:03Speaker 1: people that have kind of this pantheon of their catalog
- 3:06Speaker 1: right where you could look at like these four albums
- 3:08Speaker 1: that are like incredible, right, And so I think a
- 3:12Speaker 1: lot of us grow up wanting to be like that.
- 3:14Speaker 1: But then when you really get back into the industry,
- 3:17Speaker 1: I think that you realized that it's not that these
- 3:19Speaker 1: artists didn't want to release more music. And in the
- 3:22Speaker 1: mixtape era, it's not even like they weren't they were
- 3:25Speaker 1: they were free zip files. Yeah, it's warm up and
- 3:28Speaker 1: all that exactly. And I think it's just that, like
- 3:31Speaker 1: once you get into a system and a situation, like
- 3:34Speaker 1: those buildings move so slow a lot of times, it's
- 3:36Speaker 1: not even their choice of how little music they're releasing
- 3:39Speaker 1: because they're it's on a cycle. So I had to
- 3:42Speaker 1: get myself out of that mindset and realize. I remember,
- 3:45Speaker 1: like watching something where they were talking about how like
- 3:47Speaker 1: the week after Get Richard, die try and drop fifty
- 3:50Speaker 1: cent drop the mixtape in the streets yep, And we
- 3:52Speaker 1: don't remember necessarily that mixtape in the streets, but it
- 3:55Speaker 1: didn't dilute Get Richard I trying, you know what I mean.
- 3:57Speaker 1: So I was like, Okay, first of all, people have
- 3:59Speaker 1: always done this, like people have always had this kind
- 4:01Speaker 1: of abundance. But then second of all, like you know,
- 4:04Speaker 1: I just realized that I had a lot to say
- 4:07Speaker 1: and I had a lot of material, and I felt
- 4:09Speaker 1: like I could do it all without compromising the quality. Yeah,
- 4:12Speaker 1: and so that was kind of you know, my mood
- 4:14Speaker 1: in terms of like the rust thing, and I saw
- 4:16Speaker 1: that dialogue going on. I think everybody's different, and you know,
- 4:21Speaker 1: you know, there's certain projects that you want to take
- 4:23Speaker 1: more time with. And that's why for me, like the
- 4:25Speaker 1: language of album, Like I've only dropped, you know, three
- 4:29Speaker 1: albums right like that. I consider albums so as an artist,
- 4:32Speaker 1: like I kind of decipher the things that I really
- 4:34Speaker 1: spend years and years working on whatever, so the fans
- 4:37Speaker 1: know what's what. I think that's important. But I think
- 4:42Speaker 1: I think it gets confused because now instead of it
- 4:44Speaker 1: being like a mixtape you buy from the corner store
- 4:46Speaker 1: or something on that pif everything's on DSPs as it
- 4:50Speaker 1: should be. I feel like you're crazy if like I
- 4:52Speaker 1: just somebody recently put something out and it was like
- 4:56Speaker 1: only on SoundCloud and like that PIF and I was
- 4:59Speaker 1: just I mean, shout out to that, you know, but
- 5:02Speaker 1: like it just didn't make sense. It's like why wouldn't
- 5:04Speaker 1: you anyway? But yeah, I just think like you said,
- 5:07Speaker 1: it's important like communicating the language of like what this
- 5:10Speaker 1: is to your fans, Like, Yo, this is a mixtape
- 5:12Speaker 1: or it's just some collection of records or an EP
- 5:15Speaker 1: or whatever. So for you, how do you kind of
- 5:20Speaker 1: differentiate because you say you're working on your big album,
- 5:23Speaker 1: how do you differentiate between like what makes the album
- 5:25Speaker 1: isn't because the album has a certain concept or there's
- 5:28Speaker 1: a certain feel or quality to it. Like how do
- 5:31Speaker 1: you know if that's like, oh, this is an album song. Yeah,
- 5:34Speaker 1: we just can't throw this out there. Yeah, when it
- 5:36Speaker 1: feels like that, when it feels like, man, this is
- 5:38Speaker 1: something that I have to cultivate. This feels like the
- 5:40Speaker 1: expression of my sound that combines a lot of my
- 5:43Speaker 1: different influences. But that like, this is where I'm at
- 5:46Speaker 1: musically at this point in time and creatively, and this
- 5:49Speaker 1: is what I want to say, and you know, when
- 5:52Speaker 1: it fits into the narrative of the big album that
- 5:55Speaker 1: I'm working on at the time. You know, the other
- 5:57Speaker 1: joints like the obviously the Space two which is you know,
- 6:00Speaker 1: February tenth, and then like the Home Court projects that
- 6:04Speaker 1: have kind of like become these little serialized things. They
- 6:06Speaker 1: just happened organically creatively, I was making really emotional joints
- 6:10Speaker 1: about this period of my life with the space stuff
- 6:12Speaker 1: that I was making, like this mixtapey feeling like barred
- 6:15Speaker 1: out stuff for the home court stuff, and I was
- 6:17Speaker 1: just like, you know, people always feel this pressure on
- 6:20Speaker 1: albums when you don't drop a lot of stuff, just
- 6:22Speaker 1: show them everything I got in one go, and it
- 6:25Speaker 1: sometimes makes for projects that aren't cohesive one hundred percent.
- 6:28Speaker 1: So I'm always that pressure, you know what I mean.
- 6:30Speaker 1: By giving them the other stuff in a cohesive form,
- 6:33Speaker 1: that was kind of them, you know what I mean?
- 6:35Speaker 1: For you, I feel like a lot of people who
- 6:41Speaker 1: come from New York, like I mean, if we think
- 6:45Speaker 1: of New York like nationally at the moment, obviously there's
- 6:49Speaker 1: like the big, the great stuff, the Cardi B's and
- 6:51Speaker 1: the I mean shit, the Joey badasses and these guys
- 6:55Speaker 1: who are like well established. But it feels like right
- 6:57Speaker 1: now in New York everyone is very much much not everybody,
- 7:02Speaker 1: but nationally a lot of people are checking for the
- 7:05Speaker 1: drill scene. You kind of coming out of the city
- 7:08Speaker 1: doing something way different. Do you feel like it's like
- 7:11Speaker 1: an advantage for you because you kind of because a
- 7:13Speaker 1: lot of drill shit coming out of New York. And
- 7:15Speaker 1: I feel like, for you, it's kind of probably a
- 7:17Speaker 1: good thing that you're bringing a different, you know, piece
- 7:19Speaker 1: of music, your style to the landscape of New York
- 7:22Speaker 1: hip hop. How do you feel? Yeah, I think so.
- 7:26Speaker 1: To be totally honest with you, you you know, like I
- 7:30Speaker 1: just I am New York because of New York raised me,
- 7:34Speaker 1: like for real, for real, and at this point, like
- 7:36Speaker 1: I don't really think too directly about how it all
- 7:40Speaker 1: relates to New York. I've been like doing a lot
- 7:42Speaker 1: of just finding myself and who I am and what
- 7:44Speaker 1: like Marlon Kraft represents, and that's always going to be
- 7:47Speaker 1: inherently New York. But I don't even think about, like
- 7:52Speaker 1: where does this fit into the landscape. And I've just
- 7:54Speaker 1: been watching it kind of grow and observing which place
- 7:57Speaker 1: is support what I'm doing more, And you know, New
- 8:00Speaker 1: York's always home base and it's everything to me. But
- 8:03Speaker 1: I don't even really like consider it. Could you ever
- 8:06Speaker 1: leave New York? It's real sunny out here, bro, I'm
- 8:11Speaker 1: gonna tell you something, Man, I go to New York
- 8:13Speaker 1: and I love it, but I'm just like God bless
- 8:17Speaker 1: y'all man, because y'all really lived there. I couldn't do it.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I understand though, Like there's one thing like, like to me,
- 8:23Speaker 1: like if you like when they say if you could
- 8:25Speaker 1: survive in New York, you could survive anywhere, it's fucking
- 8:28Speaker 1: a fact, yeah, because just like going to the store
- 8:31Speaker 1: or going to work, just there's so many variables every
- 8:36Speaker 1: day that you have to deal with that you wouldn't
- 8:38Speaker 1: deal with anywhere else that it's it's almost like your
- 8:41Speaker 1: numb to the stress that those variables create. Yeah, it's
- 8:44Speaker 1: kind of wild. Ye. It's like I saw a video
- 8:47Speaker 1: of a guy sleeping on the subway and just a
- 8:49Speaker 1: rat was like running on him, and shit, he just
- 8:50Speaker 1: like flicked it off. Like it was just like I
- 8:52Speaker 1: saw that. That was wild if there was a rat
- 8:55Speaker 1: on me bro going on. But like we don't see
- 8:57Speaker 1: rats on the West Coast like that, But in New York,
- 9:00Speaker 1: if like you're eating pizza on the corner with your
- 9:01Speaker 1: boys after the club, there's like rats running around and
- 9:04Speaker 1: it's just like, yeah, it's just fucking yeah, it's just
- 9:06Speaker 1: you guys deal with a lot, dude, a lot of stress. Yeah,
- 9:09Speaker 1: a lot of fucking people, a lot of rubbing shoulders. Yeah,
- 9:12Speaker 1: the pandemic had to be extra stressful. That was really
- 9:15Speaker 1: hard because it's so little space and so that everybody's
- 9:17Speaker 1: on the top of each other. It's winter, bro. Like
- 9:20Speaker 1: I mean I say this. The older I get and
- 9:22Speaker 1: the more in tune I get with like what's really
- 9:24Speaker 1: important to me and what's better for my mental health,
- 9:27Speaker 1: the more I'm like, wow, this is not that conducive
- 9:30Speaker 1: to that. You know, Like when I come to place,
- 9:33Speaker 1: even out here to take breaks, you know, it's like
- 9:35Speaker 1: the weather's warm, the sunshine and there's more space, it's
- 9:38Speaker 1: calmer like some of these things. Whereas when I was younger,
- 9:41Speaker 1: I would have been like, man, shit boring, like I
- 9:43Speaker 1: got phone, Well, I gotta get back home. Now I'm
- 9:45Speaker 1: like really embracing those things a lot more. But it's
- 9:48Speaker 1: hard for me to envision leaving New York for like
- 9:50Speaker 1: year round, because it's just no matter. There's nothing like
- 9:53Speaker 1: going when you're from New York. There's nothing like going
- 9:55Speaker 1: back to New York, you know what I mean. It's
- 9:57Speaker 1: one of one place. Yeah, it's a great place. Man.
- 10:01Speaker 1: What is your favorite Like, Okay, you're for a house kitchen,
- 10:03Speaker 1: which is a huge food area. Yeah, what's like your
- 10:06Speaker 1: top three restaurants in Hell's Kitchen? Oh, yelp, man, you
- 10:11Speaker 1: know what's crazy? This ship is so different now the
- 10:13Speaker 1: whole Manhattan is cooked, like like gentrified is not even
- 10:16Speaker 1: the word. Like it's just like beyond. Oh. I go
- 10:19Speaker 1: on Zillow once a month just for ships and giggles,
- 10:22Speaker 1: to just scare myself from ever taking a job in
- 10:24Speaker 1: New York. Yeah, bro, it's bro, it's yeah, it's cooked.
- 10:29Speaker 1: So like I to tell you the truth, Like every
- 10:31Speaker 1: time I'm in Hell's kit it's like new stores, new restaurants,
- 10:34Speaker 1: everything popping up like every other day. I don't even
- 10:38Speaker 1: know what do we Like? Claudio shout out to Claudio's.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Claudio's is the only like real Hell's Kitchen spot that's
- 10:45Speaker 1: still there. Pizza Real, that's the pizza real. Yeah, Claudio's.
- 10:49Speaker 1: I shot a video in there back and the day
- 10:50Speaker 1: that's like, you know, that's that's like the spot and
- 10:52Speaker 1: it's still there. It's like he renovated it and whatever,
- 10:55Speaker 1: but it's still like that's the spot. How are we
- 10:57Speaker 1: feeling about Jalen Brunson, Julius Randall and these knicks that
- 11:01Speaker 1: are actually you know, playing like playing for the hardest
- 11:05Speaker 1: fucking coach to play for in the whole league. Man,
- 11:08Speaker 1: was a fucking motherfuck. How much time do we have? Man?
- 11:11Speaker 1: How do you feel? You know, well, you know, I
- 11:12Speaker 1: feel good. It's nice that we're that we're more competitive.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Brunson I think was the best offseason signing for sure.
- 11:18Speaker 1: And I love his game. And he's not that expensive,
- 11:20Speaker 1: yeah compared to like other players who are doing what
- 11:22Speaker 1: he's doing. Yeah, he's a beast. I'm really happy about that.
- 11:25Speaker 1: What I will say is, if you really watch the games,
- 11:27Speaker 1: it's brutal, man, It's still brutal, because even when we win,
- 11:31Speaker 1: we fucking like find a way to blow it at
- 11:33Speaker 1: the end and make it like like a shitty win,
- 11:35Speaker 1: where like it was like we were up by ten
- 11:37Speaker 1: the whole game and then we collapse because and it's
- 11:40Speaker 1: Tom Thibodau plays, yeah, and then and and it's very weird, bro,
- 11:44Speaker 1: Like we have a winning record, but we have a
- 11:46Speaker 1: losing home record. We're like one of the only teams
- 11:48Speaker 1: in the league. And I don't know if it's because
- 11:50Speaker 1: New York's popping, and so the road is like we
- 11:52Speaker 1: just we just chill and don't go out and they
- 11:54Speaker 1: go out, we go out in New York. I don't know,
- 11:56Speaker 1: but it's very it's very Uh, it's still been like
- 11:58Speaker 1: a frustrating up and down on year. But I'm in
- 12:01Speaker 1: it forever. Man with these Knicks, would you trade RJ?
- 12:03Speaker 1: Barrett Man, I never know how honest to be with
- 12:09Speaker 1: this ship, because you know, i'd like to uh to
- 12:12Speaker 1: do things with the Knicks and you know, yeah, and
- 12:17Speaker 1: I will be my Twitter if the Sun's ever checked
- 12:21Speaker 1: my Twitter feed, Yeah, he probably wouldn't do stuff with
- 12:24Speaker 1: the Sun. All right, I'll keep it the buck with you.
- 12:26Speaker 1: The thing with r J is dude's told him he
- 12:29Speaker 1: was a star then gave him the bag that he
- 12:30Speaker 1: was a star. But he's not a star because he's
- 12:33Speaker 1: the third best player on our team and we're not
- 12:34Speaker 1: even good and he can't and and he stopped playing defense.
- 12:38Speaker 1: He used to play d well, but he got so
- 12:40Speaker 1: into what's going on with him and his scoring. Then
- 12:42Speaker 1: now he stops playing defense. But he shoots low percentage
- 12:45Speaker 1: from the field. So to be honest, like, what are
- 12:48Speaker 1: we really talking about? As the ceiling? And I like
- 12:51Speaker 1: the things he does and I think he's a young
- 12:53Speaker 1: good player, but is he gonna accept what his role
- 12:58Speaker 1: might have to be to be out of a contender,
- 13:01Speaker 1: because how much more evidence do we need to know
- 13:04Speaker 1: if he's going to be a star player on winning team.
- 13:06Speaker 1: What is it like, year three or four? I think
- 13:07Speaker 1: it's four or five. I think it's four. I think
- 13:09Speaker 1: it's four. Yeah, because him and Zion came in the
- 13:11Speaker 1: same year. Yeah. Yeah, and Zion's obviously a star who
- 13:14Speaker 1: just gets injured a lot. Cam Reddish is Cam Reddish
- 13:17Speaker 1: on the Knicks. Is he's been relegated to the bench. Wow,
- 13:20Speaker 1: it's like Duke. Some people are some people are real
- 13:22Speaker 1: tight about that that Cam Reddish is on the bench. Yeah.
- 13:25Speaker 1: I don't know. I have League Pass, but I don't
- 13:27Speaker 1: watch enough when the Knicks are on. I'm not running
- 13:29Speaker 1: to the game. Yeah, respect, I feel you. There's some
- 13:31Speaker 1: teams that I don't give a fuck about, But if
- 13:33Speaker 1: they're playing, I'm like, oh, let me see what the
- 13:35Speaker 1: Kings are doing. Yeah, if the Warriors playing, I'm watching. Yeah.
- 13:38Speaker 1: But you yeah, yeah, sorry, that's a that's a sore spot.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I mean, not so much. The Sun's Yeah, yeah, you
- 13:46Speaker 1: guys are having I have no sympathy because I've been
- 13:49Speaker 1: Knicks fan all up. But you're haven't you at least
- 13:52Speaker 1: got championships, not when you were alive, but at least
- 13:55Speaker 1: my dad, my dad's youth. Yeah, we don't got that ship.
- 13:59Speaker 1: I mean you. Yeah, you guys got the at least
- 14:02Speaker 1: the cultural importance. The Suns. Don't gives a fuck about
- 14:05Speaker 1: the Suns. Yeah. Everyone hates us though, but it's kind
- 14:07Speaker 1: of it's kind of fun. I'm loving watching the Nets
- 14:10Speaker 1: crash and burn. That's it is actually pretty dope because
- 14:12Speaker 1: they really thought that like they were gonna go like
- 14:15Speaker 1: when like like y'all really had Hart and Kyrie and
- 14:18Speaker 1: Katie and it just didn't matter. And all five of
- 14:21Speaker 1: their fans talk so much shit five of them. Yeah,
- 14:25Speaker 1: no one's I've noticed some people from New York switching
- 14:29Speaker 1: sides or double dipping, like our guy Rob Markman is
- 14:32Speaker 1: one of one of those guys hardcore Knicks guy hardcore,
- 14:36Speaker 1: but you know what, he got it so hardcore when
- 14:38Speaker 1: he did it, I couldn't even be mad at him.
- 14:40Speaker 1: It's like when Porzingis left, it was the same thing.
- 14:42Speaker 1: It was like, Yo, you gotta understand this is an
- 14:44Speaker 1: abusive household. Yeah, when people want to get out, you
- 14:47Speaker 1: can't hold him back. I don't think so until he dies, no,
- 14:50Speaker 1: and they'll probably pass it on to some other jerk off. Yeah,
- 14:54Speaker 1: I said not you exactly. So for you, man uh,
- 14:59Speaker 1: I think that you got three million monthly listeners on Spotify.
- 15:04Speaker 1: That's a serious accomplishment, thank you. Outside of dropping music
- 15:08Speaker 1: at a high quantity at a high level, what would
- 15:12Speaker 1: you say would be the key to you connecting with people,
- 15:17Speaker 1: connecting with the fans because you've conceptually you've put out
- 15:22Speaker 1: some of the doper videos in recent memory. Thank you,
- 15:26Speaker 1: But like for you, that's a that's crazy, especially because
- 15:29Speaker 1: there's guys that have quote unquote bigger buzzies than you,
- 15:32Speaker 1: or you know, are perceived to be bigger artists than you,
- 15:35Speaker 1: that aren't even sniffing that. So for you, what has
- 15:39Speaker 1: been the one key or a couple of keys that
- 15:43Speaker 1: has worked for you to connect on that level? Man?
- 15:46Speaker 1: So you know, I think just staying true, Like obviously
- 15:52Speaker 1: there's tactical things like on a strategic breakdown and whatever,
- 15:55Speaker 1: but I think like really honing in on what is
- 16:01Speaker 1: resonating with people like not I'll give you an example,
- 16:05Speaker 1: like my biggest song on Spotify, a song called Something's
- 16:07Speaker 1: Wrong in heaven. And I made that song in twenty
- 16:10Speaker 1: nineteen when I was still in that in that deal,
- 16:13Speaker 1: and when I made it, I was in a little
- 16:16Speaker 1: bit in the world. I was like in the industry thing,
- 16:19Speaker 1: and I was still staying true. But I was doing
- 16:21Speaker 1: this thing that an artists do where it's like, man,
- 16:23Speaker 1: if something is not like something new for me, it
- 16:27Speaker 1: feels like, oh it's not enough. Like it was like,
- 16:29Speaker 1: this is just a dope beat, is a crazy loop sample,
- 16:32Speaker 1: profound word think of it? Yeah, but everyone knows I
- 16:35Speaker 1: can do that. I don't. Yeah, a different beader, yeah,
- 16:39Speaker 1: and so but even when people around me are like
- 16:42Speaker 1: this song is really special whatever. So I put that
- 16:43Speaker 1: song out three years later and it's now my biggest song,
- 16:47Speaker 1: and I got out of that headspace and into the
- 16:49Speaker 1: headspace of just what is it that I do for people?
- 16:52Speaker 1: What is it that people resonate with in my music,
- 16:54Speaker 1: and allowing the fans to decide which songs are their favorites,
- 16:59Speaker 1: and not trying to pull east what people resonate with
- 17:02Speaker 1: about me, but rather just learn from it and just
- 17:05Speaker 1: keep hammering down on what that is and then being
- 17:08Speaker 1: consistent and just knowing who I am and trying to
- 17:12Speaker 1: be honest and be forthright. You know, hey, we got
- 17:15Speaker 1: to stop the interview to tell you about our folks

- 18:59Speaker 1: what I'm saying. If you want your dick harder than

- 19:28Speaker 1: in a chewable form, very discrete packaging mail to your house.
- 19:33Speaker 1: You don't have to go to a doctor's appointment in
- 19:36Speaker 1: person with anybody. You don't have to worry about embarrassing
- 19:39Speaker 1: conversations with strangers about your fucking dick. Bro, nobody wants
- 19:44Speaker 1: to talk about their dick with a stranger. I take
- 19:46Speaker 1: that back. I take that back. Lots of people like
- 19:50Speaker 1: to talk about their dicks with strangers. If you're not
- 19:54Speaker 1: that kind of guy or girl or them, all you
- 19:58Speaker 1: gotta do is go to Blue Cheo right now and
- 20:02Speaker 1: use the promo code Bootleg, and you're gonna get it

- 20:17Speaker 1: your dick shouldn't be flaccid after a nice, long, stressful night. No,
- 20:22Speaker 1: your dick should be ready. You don't want to be
- 20:25Speaker 1: a you know, a victim of too much stress, too
- 20:28Speaker 1: much anxiety, and then you look down and you can't
- 20:30Speaker 1: stay hard. You imagine how fucking embarrassing that is. You
- 20:33Speaker 1: get yourself a nice, lovely, fucking young lady, you bring
- 20:36Speaker 1: her to the place you're nervous. She's a little maybe
- 20:39Speaker 1: she's a little out of your fucking league, and you
- 20:41Speaker 1: start thinking too much, and that dick's not gonna perform.
- 20:45Speaker 1: It's not it's not gonna perform how you'd like it too,
- 20:48Speaker 1: but you know how it will perform. If you're on
- 20:50Speaker 1: that fucking blue cheo, you're gonna put in a fucking
- 20:53Speaker 1: luka donkic sixty one point fucking performance on that pussy
- 20:58Speaker 1: all right, So go to blue choo dot com right now.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Use that promo code Bootleg. Let's get back to the interview.
- 21:04Speaker 1: You're a hip hop head who's been the biggest what
- 21:06Speaker 1: the fuck fan of Marlon Kraft where you find out
- 21:09Speaker 1: they fucked with you and you were just like what,
- 21:11Speaker 1: like this is crazy? Like this person knows who I am.
- 21:14Speaker 1: This person listens to my music, You've had to have
- 21:16Speaker 1: had a few of those. I'm trying to think. Man,
- 21:25Speaker 1: there's people, for sure, but none really come to mind. Yeah,
- 21:36Speaker 1: Jaden Smith hit me one time on Instagram and just
- 21:39Speaker 1: sent me like a thumbs up emoji. That's pretty sick.
- 21:44Speaker 1: It was so random and I was like and I
- 21:46Speaker 1: was like, yo, word and that was it. I never
- 21:49Speaker 1: heard anything. It was just so that was a weird one.
- 21:52Speaker 1: You know, it's hip hop people obviously, but I mean,
- 21:54Speaker 1: like for me, you know, I like getting the respect
- 21:56Speaker 1: when I walk into a party and like you know,
- 22:00Speaker 1: Primos there and like you know, or I met just
- 22:02Speaker 1: Blaze and he and I was like, yo, you're my
- 22:04Speaker 1: favorite producer ever. And he's like yeah, yeah, like that
- 22:09Speaker 1: that's those type of things are crazy to me. Like
- 22:11Speaker 1: that was a crazy moment I met him. He's like, yeah,
- 22:13Speaker 1: I'm a fan of Like that was that was crazy.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I've had certain people like reach out and send dms,
- 22:17Speaker 1: but I mean, just Blaze and Primo is pretty fucking crazy.
- 22:21Speaker 1: But Jadon Smith's random and awesome too. It's like that
- 22:25Speaker 1: was just a random one. I can't think. I couldn't
- 22:26Speaker 1: think of it, but it was so weird. I was
- 22:28Speaker 1: just like, Okay, that's that's dope. What's your favorite just
- 22:31Speaker 1: Blaze beat? Probably either public service announcement or you don't know,
- 22:38Speaker 1: I love Breathe That breathe beat is so hard no
- 22:44Speaker 1: b yeah, oh that ship is so cold to me.
- 22:48Speaker 1: He's the illiest man. I mean, I would love to
- 22:51Speaker 1: to do something. You haven't worked with him? Nah? Nah,
- 22:54Speaker 1: I you know, I don't want to. I think when
- 22:57Speaker 1: the time is right, hopefully it doesn't seem like he's
- 22:59Speaker 1: like like I feel like just is not as active
- 23:04Speaker 1: as he like, not as I wouldn't they should be,
- 23:06Speaker 1: but like as you would think. Like I don't feel
- 23:09Speaker 1: like I see just Blaze beats often and when I do,
- 23:12Speaker 1: I get super excited. But I feel like like he
- 23:14Speaker 1: just doesn't work with anybody. Yeah, you know, you know
- 23:16Speaker 1: who's probably the answer to that question. The original question
- 23:19Speaker 1: is doing the song with Havoc, Like doing the Hans
- 23:21Speaker 1: Zimmer songa Havoc like that was crazy to me, Like
- 23:23Speaker 1: the fact that he showed me love because what they
- 23:25Speaker 1: meant to me growing up in New York. And then
- 23:27Speaker 1: how I popped up on the scene, like going viral
- 23:29Speaker 1: on the survival of the fittest beats like in my
- 23:31Speaker 1: childhood bedroom and shit to then having my own song
- 23:34Speaker 1: that he produced and he's not here popping up either,
- 23:37Speaker 1: like you don't just see him on the upcoming artist
- 23:39Speaker 1: shit Like so that was real special to me, Like
- 23:42Speaker 1: that was like, wow, was that like a song that
- 23:46Speaker 1: did you know he was? Like it was his beat?
- 23:48Speaker 1: Did you know he was getting on the record. Nah,
- 23:50Speaker 1: he wasn't on it. He wasn't on it. He just
- 23:51Speaker 1: did the beat he did ye, Yeah, he just did
- 23:53Speaker 1: the beat. But what's crazy is that like that song too,
- 23:58Speaker 1: I made in twenty twenty and dropped in twenty twenty two.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I had it for bad long. That's so crazy. But
- 24:03Speaker 1: that's dope because like like back, like let that be
- 24:06Speaker 1: a lesson the artists who like they get demo ititis, yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 1: where they have a song for so long and they're like, man,
- 24:11Speaker 1: that shit is whack or it just gets played out
- 24:13Speaker 1: to you, but like the people haven't heard it. It's
- 24:15Speaker 1: like bro, yeah, like don't overthink this shit, Like yeah,
- 24:18Speaker 1: here's here's here's the key thing to our conversation even
- 24:21Speaker 1: before with like the consistency, like the implication of people
- 24:27Speaker 1: that are critiquing it is you think I'm Russian. You're
- 24:30Speaker 1: wrong because I'm dropping songs there are two or three
- 24:32Speaker 1: years old. I'm just really two years ahead of myself.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Like I came into you. I told you today, like, yo,
- 24:37Speaker 1: I gotta play this album. Shit, I'm working on bro
- 24:39Speaker 1: for like twenty four you know what I mean. These
- 24:41Speaker 1: are songs, some of these songs that are on that
- 24:43Speaker 1: they're going to be on that album I made in
- 24:44Speaker 1: twenty twenty. Yeah. No, that's and you're you got you
- 24:48Speaker 1: got the next couple of things already planned out. You
- 24:50Speaker 1: gotta work that way if you want to be like
- 24:53Speaker 1: strategic and not lose quantity, because I agree if you
- 24:56Speaker 1: if you rush things out for the sake of rushing
- 24:58Speaker 1: them mount then it's gonna lose quality. Uh. Are you
- 25:02Speaker 1: now that gambling is legal in New York and you,
- 25:05Speaker 1: being the sports fan that you are, you dabbling in
- 25:07Speaker 1: any any sports gambling. I haven't dabbled yet, and I'm
- 25:11Speaker 1: afraid to because I'm very like very afraid. Yeah, I'm
- 25:14Speaker 1: very compulsive with certain things. I'm like, man, I'm not
- 25:17Speaker 1: plus yo, It's like, I mean, I think it's it's fine,
- 25:19Speaker 1: but it's it's just wild. How like every commercial now
- 25:23Speaker 1: fan duels and it's greatbody shamelessly and there's like real
- 25:28Speaker 1: people really ruin their lives with this. Shit's mad addictive
- 25:31Speaker 1: and people get destroyed. It's like it's almost like a
- 25:33Speaker 1: commercial general like yo, like you got Charles Bark up there,
- 25:36Speaker 1: like all right at halftime, like all right, we're gonna
- 25:38Speaker 1: pick who's gonna score the next bucket. It's almost like
- 25:40Speaker 1: they're like all right, like we're gonna try out who
- 25:43Speaker 1: got the best crack, Like you know what. It's like
- 25:45Speaker 1: a kind of a wild concept. It is pretty crazy,
- 25:48Speaker 1: you know, is very addictive. Yeah, especially if you're like
- 25:50Speaker 1: a hardcore sports fan, because then like you makes you
- 25:53Speaker 1: just care so much about every game. Yeah, like you'll
- 25:56Speaker 1: be betting on like a fucking a goddamn like Portland
- 26:00Speaker 1: trail Blazers first Orlando Magic game and you'll just be
- 26:03Speaker 1: like locked in. Nobody else in the country gives a fuck. Yeah.
- 26:09Speaker 1: I'm kind of like that because I play fantasy, so
- 26:11Speaker 1: that does that. Yeah. Yeah, it like gives me investment
- 26:14Speaker 1: in games. I don't give a great Do you do
- 26:17Speaker 1: it where you set your lineup every day or set
- 26:19Speaker 1: it once a week every day, But I just do
- 26:21Speaker 1: it at the beginning of the week. I just it's
- 26:23Speaker 1: not like you don't have to think about it. You
- 26:24Speaker 1: just whoever's playing? Do you do football? Nah? Not a
- 26:26Speaker 1: big football guy, nah, man, because I was. I'm Jets fan,
- 26:29Speaker 1: and like I can only tolerate so much like dysfunction
- 26:32Speaker 1: and disappointment with the Knicks and Gary Vee Jets guys.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I don't even know poor Zach Wilson. He's done. Bro.
- 26:39Speaker 1: I'm out the loop. Bro. I got enough trauma and stress.
- 26:42Speaker 1: I'm the Kicks. The Knicks is is all I could take. Yeah. Yeah,
- 26:46Speaker 1: the next thing is rough. It's tough, man, It is tough. Okay,
- 26:50Speaker 1: So is there anything First of all, Mom's whiskey. The
- 26:56Speaker 1: idea of you actually putting out whiskey with your mom's
- 27:00Speaker 1: fucking genius. I appreciate it. How is the whiskey business?
- 27:03Speaker 1: And was that like a super limited thing or is
- 27:05Speaker 1: this something that's like you're trying to scale like and
- 27:07Speaker 1: like really like get down in the alcohol industry. It's
- 27:10Speaker 1: super limited. It's been super limited so far. We've just
- 27:13Speaker 1: done batches of like very limited releases. But I would
- 27:16Speaker 1: love to scale it. It's a it's a it's a
- 27:18Speaker 1: tricky thing because there's so many laws that go back
- 27:21Speaker 1: to like prohibition and ship. Yeah, it's like also like
- 27:24Speaker 1: a very tricky industry. It's like a lot of like
- 27:26Speaker 1: it's it's it's like any industry, but it's got you know,
- 27:29Speaker 1: you gotta kind of have somebody in that industry to
- 27:32Speaker 1: help guide you. Yeah, I think I think if like
- 27:35Speaker 1: I'm more popping, we could probably like scale it. But
- 27:38Speaker 1: I think, like it's been really cool so far. And
- 27:40Speaker 1: we just reached out to this distillery and they were down,
- 27:42Speaker 1: you know, and that that song was my biggest song
- 27:44Speaker 1: at the time, and yeah, people love it. It's real good.
- 27:48Speaker 1: I mean, if you if you're in New York, I
- 27:50Speaker 1: gotta give you a bottle. I need some moms whiskey
- 27:52Speaker 1: for yeah. Hell yeah. I just got into a uh
- 27:55Speaker 1: not necessarily an argument, but I got into it. Well.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I went viral because I went on a podcast and
- 28:00Speaker 1: I said that I didn't think that Drake nor j
- 28:04Speaker 1: Cole had consensus classic albums. Now I say that to
- 28:09Speaker 1: say I think they. I think personally to me, Cole
- 28:13Speaker 1: has two classic albums to me. To me, and I
- 28:16Speaker 1: think Drake Scott two, but I think like they don't
- 28:21Speaker 1: have an album that people look at in the same
- 28:23Speaker 1: way that they look at a Doggie Stele or get
- 28:25Speaker 1: Richard Dot Trying or a good kid Bat City. What
- 28:28Speaker 1: are your thoughts? Which are your two for Cole? I
- 28:32Speaker 1: actually like Worn Center and Four Soils Drive. I think
- 28:36Speaker 1: Four Soils Drive is that, and then like I really,
- 28:41Speaker 1: I really do like the Ko d Shit is crazy too,
- 28:46Speaker 1: and off I like off Season. Off Season is like
- 28:48Speaker 1: a year old, so I can't really say, but off
- 28:50Speaker 1: Season was special to me. I think Friday Night Lights
- 28:54Speaker 1: is not an album. Well that's that's where you get
- 28:56Speaker 1: into the debate. But to me, that's like, I think
- 28:59Speaker 1: that's only my favorite body of work from Cole. Me too,
- 29:03Speaker 1: Friday night Lights is crazy, that that ship was ridiculous. Yes,
- 29:06Speaker 1: so I think you got that. And I think his
- 29:08Speaker 1: one is Drake's is like take Care And to me,
- 29:13Speaker 1: my favorite Drake is nothing was the same. Drake is
- 29:16Speaker 1: hard because he does the thing you know where he
- 29:19Speaker 1: tries to like hit all the bases, you know, and
- 29:21Speaker 1: it's so it's like and it ends up resulting in
- 29:25Speaker 1: cool albums and cool songs, but maybe not the most Yeah,
- 29:29Speaker 1: but I actually really like nothing was the same to me.
- 29:32Speaker 1: It's crazy. That's Tusk and Leather. I mean, Drake's Drake. Yeah,
- 29:35Speaker 1: Drake's Drake, you know. But yeah, that's a that's a
- 29:37Speaker 1: tricky one. I don't think it's like, you know, when
- 29:40Speaker 1: you look at Kendrick, it's like good Kid, Mad City,
- 29:44Speaker 1: to Pimp a Butterfly, damn, and now the new joint,
- 29:47Speaker 1: Like it's crazy certified, it's crazy classics. It's crazy. It's
- 29:51Speaker 1: it's insane. I think we actually don't give him enough
- 29:55Speaker 1: credit because he's happening right now to Pimp a butter
- 30:00Speaker 1: Fly just on mediacritic, dot Com or one of those websites.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Anthony Fantana will always be fucking talking about but on that.
- 30:07Speaker 1: It's now the number one. It just finally surpassed Okay
- 30:12Speaker 1: Computer by Radiohead as the number one. I saw the
- 30:15Speaker 1: most critically acclaimed album ever, which is kind of crazy.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Shout out to Pimpa Butterfly, great album, my favorite album.
- 30:22Speaker 1: It's it's it's for me. It's either that or Good
- 30:24Speaker 1: Combat City for sure. But no, it's just crazy because,
- 30:27Speaker 1: like you said, I just put up a post yesterday.
- 30:30Speaker 1: There's a picture that Jay and Kendrick took at the Grammys,
- 30:33Speaker 1: and I was like, eventually we might look at this
- 30:37Speaker 1: picture and this is like one A one B greatest
- 30:39Speaker 1: rapper of all time. Eventually, I'm not saying now, but
- 30:42Speaker 1: I'm like, when the dust really starts to settle on
- 30:44Speaker 1: Kendrick's career. I mean, shit, man, I don't know he's
- 30:49Speaker 1: I think he might. What's that, Oh the fucking cable
- 30:54Speaker 1: guy shout out to the cable guy the studio Jim Carrey. No,
- 31:00Speaker 1: but no, I think I think. I think Kendrick is
- 31:03Speaker 1: on his way to being the goat. I think he's
- 31:05Speaker 1: the goat right now. But I think it's like because
- 31:08Speaker 1: to me, like not even on No Bigger Than like
- 31:11Speaker 1: so as a rapper, the older I get and the
- 31:13Speaker 1: more I'm get better at my craft, the more I realize, like,
- 31:17Speaker 1: oh damn, jay Z's the best rapper, like because the
- 31:20Speaker 1: shit he does and the like the fucking dexterity and
- 31:24Speaker 1: like the the versatility and the usage of less to
- 31:29Speaker 1: do more and shit like that is just crazy. Shit, Yeah,
- 31:32Speaker 1: it's crazy. But like with Kendrick, to me, not even
- 31:36Speaker 1: on No Bigger Than Rap shape, not at all. But
- 31:38Speaker 1: Kendrick's like, to me, he's like Michael Jackson Prince, Like
- 31:42Speaker 1: he's in the capantheon of like the best artists and
- 31:45Speaker 1: performers ever. And when you look at like his live
- 31:48Speaker 1: shows and his performances and the musicality of these albums
- 31:52Speaker 1: and where they kind of sit and then, like I said,
- 31:54Speaker 1: the kind of consistency I mean, and he's being consistent
- 31:59Speaker 1: while taking pretty crazy risks musically and content wise. Like
- 32:03Speaker 1: if you really think about, like it's really hard for people.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Kanye did a good job of that. But like to
- 32:10Speaker 1: like take a think, do you remember the Common album
- 32:13Speaker 1: Electric Circus that everyone panned and hated because they were like, man,
- 32:17Speaker 1: what the fuck is Common doing? Like it's not easy
- 32:19Speaker 1: to like take on a concept or take on like
- 32:23Speaker 1: you know, like to Pimp a Butterfly sonically was totally
- 32:26Speaker 1: way more funky and way more complicated musically than Good Kid,
- 32:30Speaker 1: Mad City, And it was a little over a lot
- 32:32Speaker 1: of people's heads. Yeah, people hate on it, People hate
- 32:36Speaker 1: on that. People are wild. But I think that's what
- 32:38Speaker 1: inspires me so much. Yeah, because the boldness of like
- 32:40Speaker 1: being the guy after Good Kid, Mad City, he was
- 32:43Speaker 1: the guy and it was like, Yo, you're the one
- 32:45Speaker 1: like whatever, and instead of coming and trying to do
- 32:48Speaker 1: some layup shit, which is what people usually do. They
- 32:50Speaker 1: get caught up in the prey and the praise that
- 32:52Speaker 1: they get. Yeah, like Drake, Hey, but that motherfucker's a
- 32:57Speaker 1: thousand for thousand on layups. Yeah, he's just laying it up. Yeah.
- 33:03Speaker 1: That's why when Drake did the E d M album
- 33:05Speaker 1: or with this last ship, I was refreshed by. I
- 33:07Speaker 1: was so happy. Yeah, it's not my ship, but I
- 33:09Speaker 1: was like as an artist, yeah, as an artist the
- 33:12Speaker 1: House album, there's some ship on there, and I was like, wow,
- 33:16Speaker 1: Ray took a fucking risk. This is what I like
- 33:18Speaker 1: to see. Yeah, whether I like it or not, I
- 33:20Speaker 1: respect the move. Bro agree, that's exactly what I said.
- 33:24Speaker 1: But to Pimple Butterfly, Bro, how do you do that
- 33:26Speaker 1: after after having the balls and then for it to
- 33:28Speaker 1: be that sublime? I mean, that dude is He's definitely
- 33:32Speaker 1: he's my He's my goat, like I always tell people,
- 33:34Speaker 1: because I have him in my like I got I
- 33:36Speaker 1: met about four or five, but I always say, and
- 33:39Speaker 1: I love Biggie, but I'm like if if because some people,
- 33:43Speaker 1: especially old heads, will be like, nah, man, you can't
- 33:46Speaker 1: put Kendrick. Listen, if you could put Biggie and is
- 33:48Speaker 1: Your Greatest of All Time? Off two albums, you gotta
- 33:53Speaker 1: put Kendrick in that conversation off of the four he's dropped. Yeah,
- 33:56Speaker 1: I mean that's excluding section eighty. That's excluding the Kendrick
- 34:00Speaker 1: marip that's excluding I'm Overly Dedicated and Untitled and the
- 34:04Speaker 1: Black Panther soundtrack. It's like, what are we talking about here?
- 34:07Speaker 1: The only one who's done it is really Kanye with
- 34:10Speaker 1: like those first four or five albums being sublime like that, Like,
- 34:13Speaker 1: I mean, who else really cast Yeah? You know what's
- 34:17Speaker 1: you know what's true? It is like I really got
- 34:19Speaker 1: a Yeah, I'm a New York kid. And it was
- 34:23Speaker 1: one of those things where like when I was going back,
- 34:26Speaker 1: I was going back to let me check out Tribe,
- 34:27Speaker 1: let me check out Wu Tang. Yeah, and I'm admittedly
- 34:32Speaker 1: like there equipment vinyl, Yeah, I gotta I gotta go.
- 34:35Speaker 1: Like all my context with them was like I was
- 34:38Speaker 1: a kid when like speaker Box Love Below, which is
- 34:41Speaker 1: what won them the Grammy, which was like you were like, hey, yeah,
- 34:43Speaker 1: this shit is cool, but it's about ship. That's the
- 34:46Speaker 1: album right there. Hey we got to stop the interview

- 37:54Speaker 1: Fuck them, get odd socks. Let's get back to the interview. Yeah,
- 37:57Speaker 1: I got it. I've gone a couple times, but when
- 38:00Speaker 1: ever I've gone, I've not been in the right place
- 38:02Speaker 1: to receive it. Yeah, No, that's fair. Yeah, shout out
- 38:05Speaker 1: to Kendrick. He's one of them ones mane he is
- 38:08Speaker 1: the one one on one man. I mean whatever, I'm
- 38:10Speaker 1: not trying to just like, you know, kiss his ass,
- 38:13Speaker 1: but I feel you got to give people like that
- 38:14Speaker 1: because again, I think there's certain times, like when we
- 38:16Speaker 1: live with people. We have a lot of bullshit in
- 38:19Speaker 1: our time, but sometimes we have so much reverence for
- 38:22Speaker 1: old stuff that when something's really sublime and really special
- 38:25Speaker 1: in our era, we feel weird about calling it that.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Like Lebron, Yeah, go ahead, go ahead. Yeah, I feel
- 38:34Speaker 1: like that's what happened, That's what happened. That's what's happening
- 38:36Speaker 1: with Lebron. Yeah, I think so. I think so. I mean,
- 38:38Speaker 1: I'm I'm a Jordan guy in terms of the goat debate,
- 38:41Speaker 1: but like, but it's either wonder, it's he's two. Yeah.
- 38:44Speaker 1: My thing is, if I ask you who the goat
- 38:45Speaker 1: is and you say anyone but those two names, then
- 38:48Speaker 1: I really don't know what the fuck we're talking. Like,
- 38:50Speaker 1: I love Kobe, he's right there him and Jordan's Yeah,
- 38:53Speaker 1: but like living in LA a lot of people say
- 38:56Speaker 1: Kobe's the goat. It's it's a preposterous thing to say
- 39:02Speaker 1: it is. And I love Kobe, but that is a
- 39:04Speaker 1: ridiculous basketball opinion to have. Yeah, no, it's not. I
- 39:08Speaker 1: mean there was a lot of years where he wasn't
- 39:11Speaker 1: the best player in the league at all, Like, yeah,
- 39:14Speaker 1: I'm not here, you're trying to stand her. When Kobe
- 39:16Speaker 1: was on the Lakers alone after Shaq left, they were
- 39:19Speaker 1: an eight seed two years in a row and they
- 39:22Speaker 1: lost in the first round. Well, he was playing with
- 39:24Speaker 1: Kwame and smush Kobe Bryant or Lebron James was playing
- 39:29Speaker 1: with fucking big Z, Moe Williams, Donielle Marshall off the bench,
- 39:34Speaker 1: Larry Hughes, fucking losing player if I've ever seen one,
- 39:38Speaker 1: Like if Larry Hughes is your best player on your team, yeah,
- 39:41Speaker 1: he's like a poor man's Monta Ellis, who's a poor
- 39:44Speaker 1: man's Allen Iverson. Uh. If these takes are getting better
- 39:49Speaker 1: and better, but not a manta Ellis man. Monte Ellis
- 39:52Speaker 1: was a beast, But like, I just feel like Lebron
- 39:54Speaker 1: when he's when he I mean, he's been on super teams,
- 39:57Speaker 1: but I do feel like Lebron when he's like when
- 39:59Speaker 1: the Cabints, he's still gonna. I mean, you got these
- 40:01Speaker 1: motherfuckers to the finals over the Detroit Pistons. Yeah, year
- 40:04Speaker 1: after they won the finals. Yeah, although I do feel
- 40:06Speaker 1: like there's too much made of the like eight years
- 40:08Speaker 1: in the row thing. It's like they they they were
- 40:11Speaker 1: supposed to mop up everybody in the East. I'm not
- 40:14Speaker 1: saying that it's not a crazy accomplishment, but I think
- 40:16Speaker 1: his black iron his resume is that MAVs loss with
- 40:18Speaker 1: the Heat twenty. Yeah. Yeah, that's the law. That's the
- 40:22Speaker 1: finals loss where it's like you should have had five. Yeah.
- 40:25Speaker 1: I can't even fault him for the Spurs ship because
- 40:27Speaker 1: that Spurs team was wildly talented. Yeah, but the MAVs,
- 40:32Speaker 1: I mean it was Jason Terry fucking Jason Kid. Yeah, bro,
- 40:36Speaker 1: and the Warriors one like with that was ship. I
- 40:39Speaker 1: always felt like that ship was kind of bullshit because
- 40:42Speaker 1: I felt like he threw his weight around to get
- 40:43Speaker 1: that Draymond suspension, and it was like, I feel they
- 40:48Speaker 1: beat they beat, but they won. They won the game
- 40:50Speaker 1: seven with everybody playing. They beat the best regular season
- 40:53Speaker 1: team ever in the finals. Yeah, they did, know they did.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Seventy three and nine Warriors lost to Lebron James. They did.
- 40:59Speaker 1: To me, that ring probably means more than any ring ever.
- 41:04Speaker 1: I don't know. I ever, I'd have to, I'd have
- 41:06Speaker 1: to give that. I mean, what's the toughest, what's the
- 41:08Speaker 1: tougher ring to win? Yeah? Yeah, in theory, I think
- 41:14Speaker 1: though literally the greatest regular season team ever ever. Yeah,
- 41:19Speaker 1: they were down three to one. I believe they were
- 41:22Speaker 1: but that, but they came back from three to one
- 41:25Speaker 1: against the seventy three and nine Warriors, but they were
- 41:27Speaker 1: gonna win. And then he went in the press conference
- 41:30Speaker 1: with the Draymond thing. He was like, the league won't
- 41:32Speaker 1: suspend him, but they should. You know, da da da.
- 41:34Speaker 1: He threw his big weight around and then it was
- 41:36Speaker 1: like and they suspended him. And then it was like,
- 41:39Speaker 1: you know, the rest and those guys were exhausted, and
- 41:42Speaker 1: then they fucking cheated and they got KD. That fucking
- 41:45Speaker 1: shout out to KD. Great guy, good hip hop fan.
- 41:48Speaker 1: I met him. I can't really say anything bad about
- 41:50Speaker 1: Kdie because I've been to his house and he was
- 41:51Speaker 1: really nice. He's really into hip hop. I saw him
- 41:53Speaker 1: and he's always running out with thirty eight especially. He's
- 41:55Speaker 1: a super nice guy. Yeah, but he seems he definitely
- 42:00Speaker 1: you know, some interesting decisions. It's a weird space now, man,
- 42:05Speaker 1: I'm a very old soul bro. I'll be watching a
- 42:07Speaker 1: lot of I'm Stuck out with the thunder Man. But
- 42:11Speaker 1: but I feel like now in retrospect, we can kind
- 42:13Speaker 1: of see why he left Russ. Yeah, because Russ is
- 42:16Speaker 1: a fucking can't well nice guy, Russell Westbrook, We're gonna
- 42:21Speaker 1: get you in troll. I wouldn't want him on the
- 42:22Speaker 1: fucking suns, is all I'm gonna say. Yeah, it's tough
- 42:25Speaker 1: like the you know, it reminds me of, you know,
- 42:27Speaker 1: to be honest with you since you're just being keeping
- 42:30Speaker 1: it all the way funky. I feel like John Moran
- 42:33Speaker 1: will be Russ in three years if you don't start
- 42:35Speaker 1: to learn to play defense and get some moves, or
- 42:37Speaker 1: he'll be in prison. Yeah, I heard about that ship
- 42:40Speaker 1: because he wants to be king von Yeah, I heard about.
- 42:43Speaker 1: But I love John. I love John's game. But the
- 42:45Speaker 1: thing is, it's like, if you notice, they're almost as
- 42:48Speaker 1: good without him as with him, because Tyas Jones plays
- 42:51Speaker 1: really good defense, They're very like his. I think his
- 42:54Speaker 1: style of play is counterproductive to longevity in the league
- 42:58Speaker 1: that as well. And like I think, yeah, it very
- 43:02Speaker 1: Russ d Rose type of guy. So when you think
- 43:05Speaker 1: of Russ, like Russ like electrifying, like I love like
- 43:09Speaker 1: I used to love watching him on the fucking Thunder
- 43:11Speaker 1: just he was just like a and Jaw's the same way,
- 43:13Speaker 1: except for Joh I think is a little bit more
- 43:14Speaker 1: fun to watch than those those two guys. But like
- 43:16Speaker 1: Derrick Rose is the same way. It was like, could
- 43:19Speaker 1: you win a ring with those guys? I don't know, man,
- 43:22Speaker 1: and they'll turn on you, like the way they're all
- 43:24Speaker 1: kissing Jaws as now. Everybody loves him, but I know too,
- 43:28Speaker 1: they turned on Russ. That's why I'm saying it's not
- 43:30Speaker 1: like a hater comment, this is like I want to
- 43:32Speaker 1: see him be successful. And Jared Jackson Junior making the
- 43:35Speaker 1: All Star Game is fucking the travesty, by the way,
- 43:38Speaker 1: it's insane over who who was it? That that. Uh well,
- 43:42Speaker 1: first of all, Devin Booker should have made it even
- 43:44Speaker 1: though he's missed twenty one games. Jalen Bronson should have
- 43:46Speaker 1: been in there for the East over Halliburton. I mean,
- 43:51Speaker 1: I'll be all the way real with you, like over Julius.
- 43:53Speaker 1: If you watch the games, the numbers run deniable, so
- 43:55Speaker 1: I understand, but if you really watch all the games,
- 43:57Speaker 1: like in their totality, like and there was an all
- 44:00Speaker 1: star from our team to go and this coming from
- 44:02Speaker 1: the guy who made the Julius random song like it
- 44:04Speaker 1: was Jalen has he heard the song? I don't know.
- 44:07Speaker 1: I don't think so. They played at the Garden though, Yeah,
- 44:08Speaker 1: that was pretty dope. He had kind of a weird
- 44:10Speaker 1: year last year. He did. And that's why I said,
- 44:13Speaker 1: I'm not making no more songs for people. I like,
- 44:15Speaker 1: I think you guys should fire Tibodeau. Get him out
- 44:17Speaker 1: of there, man, That old fucking bastard man. He literally
- 44:20Speaker 1: doesn't coach offense, bro Like he literally he just like
- 44:23Speaker 1: yo figured it out. Yeah, literally, like like forty eight
- 44:27Speaker 1: minutes a game. But he needs like the way Mike
- 44:30Speaker 1: Brown was coaching the defense like defensive coordinator and yeah,
- 44:33Speaker 1: state he needs one of those offense. Yeah do it
- 44:36Speaker 1: do that? Yeah, not for sure, I thought me shout
- 44:39Speaker 1: out to the Knicks, man, So you're got you got
- 44:40Speaker 1: Jordans your go. Jordan's my go. Jordan despite being a
- 44:44Speaker 1: Knicks fan, Yeah yeah, come on, man, you know ho'm's
- 44:47Speaker 1: the nineties baby, and we gotta keep it real. That's
- 44:49Speaker 1: why the Knicks lost because because of Jordan's Jordan. I'm
- 44:55Speaker 1: not sure you guys were good enough to get who
- 44:57Speaker 1: whoever was in the West during those years. I'm not sure.
- 45:00Speaker 1: I think I looked back at some I look back
- 45:02Speaker 1: at some of those fucking Knicks teams and like, offensively
- 45:06Speaker 1: just not the greatest rosters, just scrappers. It was just
- 45:09Speaker 1: like it was like a bunch of Tony Allen's and
- 45:11Speaker 1: Patrick Ewing. It was like John Starks, Anthony Mason, and
- 45:17Speaker 1: then there was like the funner version of that team
- 45:19Speaker 1: with Larry Johnson, you know, Alan Houston there was, but
- 45:22Speaker 1: but I'm talking about like the early nineties Knicks teams.
- 45:24Speaker 1: It was just like Jesus, it was just Charles Oakley
- 45:27Speaker 1: and elbows and kneecaps and fucking Patrick Ewing. Alan Houston
- 45:34Speaker 1: was a beast. I mean listen man them tell hims
- 45:37Speaker 1: like I don't know those those were battles with I
- 45:40Speaker 1: was young. I mean I was like a little kid.
- 45:42Speaker 1: I remember as a kid live on TV watching that
- 45:45Speaker 1: fucking heat Knicks brawl and Alonzo Gundy is on the
- 45:49Speaker 1: Jeff Van Gundy is one of my top five favorite humans.
- 45:52Speaker 1: He's great. Lenny does a great job at being an announcer.
- 45:55Speaker 1: He's incredible. Like when I listened to him on the broadcast,
- 45:57Speaker 1: when he'll just go in on some ship, I feel
- 46:00Speaker 1: seen like as a curmudgeon that is an old soul
- 46:03Speaker 1: that just like shit pisses me off. Bro, He'll just
- 46:06Speaker 1: go off on some shit unapologetically and go off on
- 46:09Speaker 1: the League and go off on the State, and like
- 46:11Speaker 1: it is like the greatest shit ever. I love that guy.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Love him. Okay, So if Lebron is two for you,
- 46:19Speaker 1: who's three? Probably Kareem. I think that's the yeah, And
- 46:23Speaker 1: you could make a case like like if someone wants
- 46:26Speaker 1: to come in and make a case for Kareem at two,
- 46:28Speaker 1: Like there's a case to be made. He gets weird
- 46:30Speaker 1: Era to era, but the past is fucking yeah he is.
- 46:35Speaker 1: But they changed rules for that guy, bro, Like in college.
- 46:37Speaker 1: I mean he would, I mean, and and the thing
- 46:40Speaker 1: is like he you kind of can't say, like, oh,
- 46:42Speaker 1: he wouldn't do shit today like he was mad, was
- 46:45Speaker 1: mad big, he would just shoot that hook on anybody,
- 46:47Speaker 1: like you know, I don't know, but Kareem's probably three.
- 46:50Speaker 1: And then after that you get into like I got
- 46:54Speaker 1: Dunkin at five. That's all I know for four is
- 46:57Speaker 1: probably magic. What about Bill Russell? See that's too old.
- 47:02Speaker 1: It gets starts to get with you. That's where the
- 47:04Speaker 1: error shit gets weird because it was like he was
- 47:06Speaker 1: never better than Will. Yeah, but he got all the
- 47:09Speaker 1: fucking rings. But he got all the rings. So and
- 47:11Speaker 1: then you got well as well, because every Will holds
- 47:13Speaker 1: like every fucking record, damn near. So you got to
- 47:15Speaker 1: put him somewhere in there. I think of like who
- 47:18Speaker 1: would ball out no matter what era, And I don't
- 47:20Speaker 1: know if Bill Russell could, Like I don't know what
- 47:23Speaker 1: he would do against Dwight Howard in the paint Yeah
- 47:26Speaker 1: peak Dwight of course. Yeah. When I think of like
- 47:30Speaker 1: a guy like Kareem, like you said, like I could
- 47:32Speaker 1: see Kareem thriving in today's because he can still cook. Yeah,
- 47:35Speaker 1: he can still cook I think like Larry Bird would
- 47:39Speaker 1: be a fucking beast. Larry Bird is a beast, bro
- 47:42Speaker 1: and a savage. When you hear like the trash Talk stories,
- 47:46Speaker 1: that's my favorite ship. But I'll go on YouTube and
- 47:48Speaker 1: just look up old like trash Talk stories. That dude
- 47:51Speaker 1: was a monster. Would you say Nicks fans hate Reggie
- 47:54Speaker 1: Miller or Michael Jordan Moore Reggie Miller, that Reggie serious,
- 48:00Speaker 1: disrespectful those old East, those nineties East joints respectful. Yeah,
- 48:04Speaker 1: like fuck Reggie, but also like it's it doesn't feel
- 48:08Speaker 1: like it feels very separate basketball from the person, like
- 48:12Speaker 1: on some ship, on some basketball shit, I'm like, yo,
- 48:14Speaker 1: fuck Reggie Bller. But like when I see him on TNT,
- 48:16Speaker 1: I don't get mad. Like that's how I feel about
- 48:18Speaker 1: Patrick Barley. Oh man, that dude is. That dude's wild.
- 48:21Speaker 1: He's the dirtiest player ever. That dude's wild. Your man,
- 48:24Speaker 1: Chris Paul is kind of dirty too, though he's not
- 48:26Speaker 1: my man. He's actual man, not no more A couple
- 48:29Speaker 1: of years ago that I wasn't your man. I got
- 48:31Speaker 1: all his jerseys. I gotta hope we get we move
- 48:34Speaker 1: off of them. Listen, you got your new EP out. Yeah,
- 48:38Speaker 1: but this comes out February tent so by what's today,
- 48:41Speaker 1: By the time this is out, it'll be out. Yeah,
- 48:43Speaker 1: uh new album soon, album next year, next year. And
- 48:50Speaker 1: then I got a little something coming for the summer too,
- 48:52Speaker 1: something for the summer. What's coming with summer, it's gonna
- 48:55Speaker 1: be It's gonna be mixtape time again, mixtape time. Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:59Speaker 1: Are you like, uh I think? Do you feel like
- 49:01Speaker 1: who besides yourself has the best basketball references in hip hop?
- 49:05Speaker 1: Because you got some pretty like, you got some like
- 49:08Speaker 1: really random shit. We're like, unless you're like a real
- 49:11Speaker 1: basketball nerds just flying over your fucking I got it.
- 49:14Speaker 1: I did a good one recently. Bro, I had a
- 49:16Speaker 1: he he know, Turkeuleu one in there. I love. I
- 49:18Speaker 1: was so hype when I wrote that. I was like,
- 49:20Speaker 1: he was on the Suns for like one season. He
- 49:22Speaker 1: was good man when he was on the Magic. Think
- 49:23Speaker 1: about that. They went to the finals and he was
- 49:25Speaker 1: their second best player fun me and Nelson. He was
- 49:28Speaker 1: killing Bro. I'll tell you the line when we're done.
- 49:30Speaker 1: But it was like it was literally like, uh, Action
- 49:34Speaker 1: Bronson got really good ones he does and Action Bronson
- 49:37Speaker 1: cuts super random deep cuts, like super deep cuts and then, uh,
- 49:43Speaker 1: A man, who else is good? I don't know who
- 49:45Speaker 1: else is. There's a dude named skillet Baby that's from Detroit.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Young kid who's got some pretty crazy basketball. Oh you
- 49:52Speaker 1: knows fire? Have you heard of baby tron? No, he's
- 49:55Speaker 1: on the Freshman cover. His fucking eighteen nineteen year old kid.
- 49:58Speaker 1: He got heat. He's got the most random NBA references
- 50:02Speaker 1: for his age. You'd be like, bro, how old are you?
- 50:05Speaker 1: That's he's shouting out bench players. He's shouting out the
- 50:08Speaker 1: most random ship. Yeah, like he's a kid. Bro, Like,
- 50:11Speaker 1: he's like a fucking child. I love I love that shit. Yeah,
- 50:14Speaker 1: I'm like dog that Detroit. Yeah, two guys from Detroit
- 50:17Speaker 1: shout out to them, and I shout out to you. Man,
- 50:19Speaker 1: some new album next year, new mixtape during the summer,
- 50:22Speaker 1: and then Space two out, now out now, go run
- 50:25Speaker 1: it up and go watch your freestyles about that happened
