- 3:33Today I'm going to be doing an interview.
- 3:36This is not scripted. I don't know who this person is.
- 3:39They emailed me. They said they wanted to ask
- 3:41questions. I have decided that I don't even
- 3:44want to bother asking all the different things that they're
- 3:47wanting to get into. I prefer things to be raw.
- 3:51I want it to be unique, original.
- 3:54So I didn't want to like some kind of preconceived idea of
- 3:58what I was getting into. That's usually how I always do
- 4:01it. I think that he understands it
- 4:03and he can ask me pretty much whatever he wants.
- 4:07I've been doing this for 20 years, I'm a influencer, so I've
- 4:12been doing a lot of interviews and I don't mind it.
- 4:15I'm an open book. So would you like to introduce
- 4:18yourself and I guess let's get it going, Rock'n'roll.
- 4:24All right, well, let me start off by saying I did not expect
- 4:28the whole intro on everything. Wow, you, you really rolled out
- 4:31the red carpet for me. But yeah, my, my name is Jane.
- 4:36I am an up and coming writer I guess.
- 4:39And I, I would like to firstly thank you Mr. Keane, for
- 4:44allowing me to speak with you. And yeah, like you said it very
- 4:49impromptu. We had just a few minutes of a
- 4:52talk before this, so we didn't even really get into anything.
- 4:57So we're just going to go off the cuff.
- 4:59I'll be honest, I I have interviewed people before, but
- 5:03it's been a long time. And that was for like
- 5:05documentary stuff. And this is much more, I guess,
- 5:10personalized because it's just just me doing my thing, I guess.
- 5:15And of course, here with the star Brett Keene, How are you
- 5:20today? Let's let's just start off by
- 5:21just, you know, getting to know each other a little bit.
- 5:23Just, you know, how are things going for you today?
- 5:26I'm doing pretty good. Most likely after the interview
- 5:29I'm going to be sitting down with the wife and doing what old
- 5:33couples do. Eat popcorn, watch a movie or
- 5:35something. Not exactly sure what kind of
- 5:38mess he's going to get me into. I have no idea what the film is
- 5:41at this point. I do want to let you know
- 5:44something and I let anybody know this during the interview.
- 5:47I am an open book. I literally mean that I have No
- 5:51Fear of questions. The only thing that I my rule is
- 5:56is the one every human being would want.
- 5:59I don't want to get into anything that involves doxing.
- 6:05I don't want to basically be exploited in that kind of way.
- 6:10But as far as drama or my history or why I wanted to do
- 6:14shed or why how do I sleep? Do I do it upside down like
- 6:19that? Man, I give a rat's ass.
- 6:21You can literally ask me whatever you want and it won't
- 6:24offend me and I don't give a shit if you're on my side.
- 6:27I don't care if you really like me.
- 6:29I'm I decided a long time ago to go celebrity status so have to
- 6:35deal with that. Does that make sense?
- 6:37My mentality? Yeah, yeah, that's perfectly
- 6:41reasonable. Yeah.
- 6:42I wouldn't want you to docs, you know, I, I wouldn't want to be
- 6:46docs myself. So I can, that's perfectly
- 6:48understandable. And yeah, if, if you just want
- 6:52to be straight up and honest, I, I dig it, man.
- 6:55Like I said before, I don't really want to get that, you
- 6:58know, messy into anything. I want to keep it all pretty,
- 7:01you know, above the belt and yeah, And I just want to say,
- 7:07you know, I am the big movie person.
- 7:09So I hear you're going to watch a movie.
- 7:10You don't know what it's going to be yet, but what's like the
- 7:14most like recent movie you've seen?
- 7:15How about or or maybe one that really like striked your fancy
- 7:20or you know, something that ignited a fire and you.
- 7:24Oh yeah, definitely. Last movie I watched with my
- 7:28wife that was really it was a movie that they the kind of shit
- 7:32they don't make nowadays. Nowadays I don't feel like
- 7:34they're good at writing. Like everything's woke ideology
- 7:38shit. This movie actually seemed like
- 7:40it was written by somebody smart.
- 7:42It was called Mercy with Chris Pratt about him being accused of
- 7:46murder and standing before an AI judge who would execute him if
- 7:51he couldn't make his own case. It was really interesting.
- 7:55Yeah, I I heard a lot about that movie.
- 7:57I didn't get to see it unfortunately, but you you
- 7:59thought it was good. Oh yeah, because I've actually
- 8:02thought it would be a great idea to have artificial intelligence,
- 8:06something without pride or ego, just sticking to the case and
- 8:10the rules of law. It's too many injustices in the
- 8:13world because humans make stupid mistakes based upon emotion.
- 8:18Yeah, that's very logical based. I can agree to that.
- 8:22Sure. I think there should be a little
- 8:23more Objectivism. Objectivism.
- 8:27I can't even talk to that, you know, more more logical approach
- 8:30to some of these things, especially when it comes to law.
- 8:32A lot of emotions involves them. Yeah, sure, I can.
- 8:34I can see that. I know you're very big into AI.
- 8:38We'll definitely get into that later.
- 8:40But do you think, now here's here's a good question with
- 8:45movies. Do you think AI and movies is,
- 8:48is a good thing, a net positive? Do you think one day there'll be
- 8:51a a 100% AI movie that'll be like better than anything a
- 8:56human makes? I think that it's most likely
- 9:00going to be where AI very quickly very soon.
- 9:04This isn't like some off in the future type of bullshit.
- 9:08I think that Hollywood's going to try to stay away from it for
- 9:11a while, probably use it for stories like Terminator like
- 9:14they did in the past, Megan, shit like that.
- 9:18But I think that one of the things that's great about this
- 9:21is a lot of young people and people who are creative who
- 9:24don't have the money or budget to actually make a big film.
- 9:28This gives young people the ability to be able to do their
- 9:31creativity and not fucking go completely bankrupt.
- 9:35I think we're going to. I see a lot of cool shit.
- 9:37I have a lot of hope for it, and I also like the idea that it's
- 9:40going to kill Hollywood. I hate Hollywood.
- 9:43Yeah, Hollywood can get on my nerves sometimes for sure.
- 9:46And I will say it is very impressive what, Yeah, people
- 9:50can just do at home on their computers where I I see stuff
- 9:53that it blows me away. And I, you know, I've been in
- 9:56film stuff for a while and there's stuff that's
- 9:59practically, you go like, how do they do that?
- 10:01But there's AI stuff where you go like, like, wow, just how do
- 10:03they make it look so real? So I, I definitely see it coming
- 10:06eventually. I also, I just wouldn't be
- 10:07surprised if they already use it in some form that you just don't
- 10:10really notice, like, I don't know, in the writing or some
- 10:13visual effects that you just can't see, you know, but it'll
- 10:18be interesting to see, you know, this this new generation of film
- 10:23makers, how they'll use it as a tool.
- 10:27But all right, so. Before 11 more second, I wanted
- 10:31to tell you something that you might actually be fascinating.
- 10:34You did tell me I could spit shit out on the on the raw with
- 10:38you. You might be actually interested
- 10:41to know. I actually announced this in my
- 10:42YouTube channel. I am actually working on an AI
- 10:46film myself that involves AI. Yeah, I'm converting one of my
- 10:51old books. I'm, I'm running it through AI
- 10:54as we speak, where it's scripting it in a way where I
- 10:56can actually make it coherent as a film.
- 10:59So I'm actually doing that already.
- 11:01I've never been able to do that in the 80s and 90s, trying to
- 11:05get a budget, investors and all that.
- 11:08And it's actually turned out good.
- 11:09I actually have a movie trailer up on my channel if you ever get
- 11:13a chance to see it. Yeah, no, I definitely have to
- 11:15check that out. I, I think we'll, we'll, we
- 11:19should dive into that more when we get to more AI stuff than
- 11:22what you're up to now. But that's, that's very
- 11:23interesting. And I do want to ask about that.
- 11:26But yeah, before we get into anything else, do you have
- 11:29anything else you want to ask or say or just any other comments
- 11:33before you really dive into it, you know?
- 11:36You know, so far we basically just shooting the shit kind of
- 11:40interview. We've talked about movies, we've
- 11:42talked about basically the rules turn to service and yadda yadda,
- 11:46yadda. We've been straight with each
- 11:48other and let's do it. Yeah.
- 11:51All right, so. So, yeah, there's a lot to get
- 11:54to. I have to say I've tried to
- 11:57organize it a little bit, but, you know, some things might
- 12:00bleed into other things and go off.
- 12:02So I'll try and stick to my questions as best as possible.
- 12:05But so to start out, could you please explain like your brand,
- 12:10like what kind of videos you make, the topics you discuss,
- 12:13your kind of general tone and aesthetic, like your music, your
- 12:17podcast, like what you do, like how people could follow you.
- 12:19I know you did your whole intro at the beginning, but this is
- 12:21more for like the article, you know, and also just like as if
- 12:25this is kind of like an elevator pitch.
- 12:26Like you run into, you know, big executive, like, I don't know
- 12:29any writing executives, but like you run into Steven Spielberg,
- 12:32He's like, oh, what's your thing about?
- 12:33Like how would you explain it to him?
- 12:36I get you. Well, if people were to go to my
- 12:39channel, the first thing they'd probably think is that it's a
- 12:43religious channel. But if they actually were not
- 12:45lazy or illiterate and actually really looked into the detail
- 12:49and videos, they would notice that I don't just deal with
- 12:52religion, but philosophy. Sometimes I talk about other
- 12:56people's positions like a normal influencer.
- 12:59I also like science. I'm into entertainment.
- 13:02Sometimes I'll talk about a film, video games, I'm literally
- 13:06all over the place. Probably the only thing I don't
- 13:09give a fuck talking about is opera.
- 13:11Music that disgusts me makes me want to vomit.
- 13:15Sure, sure. I'm, I'll listen to most any
- 13:17music, but I, I can't say I listen to much opera.
- 13:20I will say, you know, the name God, TV radio, that does kind of
- 13:23elicit a religious connotation. So do you think you said it's
- 13:28not initially a religion, but do you think that would put anybody
- 13:31off, you know, just the name on its own?
- 13:34Sure, but unfortunately for me, it is one of the major topics I
- 13:40like to talk about and I don't restrict people based upon their
- 13:44position if they can come into a live stream and chat with me.
- 13:48I actually people don't understand this about me because
- 13:52people look at things in a tribalistic way.
- 13:55They think that if you don't share somebody's view, people
- 13:59are so used to getting kicked out of the club or not being
- 14:02able to hang out or be friends. I'm actually open to being cool
- 14:05with anybody. I always warn people.
- 14:08I say, look, if you come at me as a friend, then the
- 14:11temperature stays nice. If you get hot, I'm willing to
- 14:14jump in the dirt as well and wrestle with you.
- 14:17I'm not one of these people that'll say, oh, I'm not going
- 14:20to throw my pearls to the, you know, swine type of thing.
- 14:24I like to fight, I like to spar, but I also like to just shoot
- 14:28the shit like what we're doing currently.
- 14:31Yeah, sure, that's perfectly reasonable.
- 14:33Like, yeah, I, I feel that way myself.
- 14:35I feel like I'm pretty nice to everybody.
- 14:38And but if you, you know, if you're going to be a jerk to me,
- 14:40then I think that gives you some, you know, excuse to be a
- 14:43jerk to them. So yeah, I, I can totally
- 14:45understand. I think that's a perfectly
- 14:47reasonable thing one. More thing I I do think I need
- 14:52to wrap this this up nicely for you.
- 14:55It is specifically I mean that highest priority of all is to
- 15:00actually talk about philosophy and religion.
- 15:03But I do have a very broad amount of stuff.
- 15:06I'm also into gaming as well. Sandbox type of Mmos like
- 15:11immersive shit. Yeah, no.
- 15:14So your main focus is philosophy and religion, but you also dive
- 15:19into video games, music, news, all that sort of stuff.
- 15:26Yeah, exactly. I think that unfortunately my
- 15:29new stuff might be a little bit overwhelming for some.
- 15:33A lot of people just report normal shit in the world.
- 15:36My shit can get pretty damn dark.
- 15:38You'd really be able to tell the difference between how I do
- 15:41things and other people. So I guess that's this is a
- 15:48further question, but I think we can bring it up now.
- 15:50So you you speak, you're a little like edgy, I'd say.
- 15:54So what kind of audience are you hoping to cultivate or either
- 16:01you're hoping to cultivate or do you or have cultivated, I should
- 16:04say. Well, I I do know that I have
- 16:08gained a great deal of people who are interested in my topics,
- 16:12but I also realize that I have stepped on toes.
- 16:16I acknowledge that that was going to happen before I even
- 16:19started. I already know that I've got a
- 16:21cool side to me, but I also know that I can be an asshole.
- 16:25I'm self aware of that and I do sometimes.
- 16:28I'm blunt with how I feel about things and my philosophy is you
- 16:32don't like what the hell I'm saying.
- 16:34You got two options, refute me, debunk me, or get the fuck out
- 16:39of here kind of attitude. And you got to have that
- 16:41attitude if you're going to do something like YouTube and the
- 16:44Internet. Internet is not nice.
- 16:47You're walking into a battlefield, so you got to have
- 16:50tough skin. For sure, for sure.
- 16:56Sorry, I'm just looking at my questions.
- 16:59OK, let's rewind a little bit and just could you explain your
- 17:04kind of your history on the Internet from start to now kind
- 17:08of briefly? I originally my agenda when I
- 17:13first came to the Internet was to actually advertise music and
- 17:17books. And then I found that I wasn't
- 17:22able to have deep conversations with people in my local area.
- 17:26I found myself in a trap. I was a person that perceived
- 17:30themselves as intelligent, looking for groups and people to
- 17:34talk to and I couldn't find it because I lived out in the
- 17:37country and there's not a lot of people out my way.
- 17:40I literally live out in the woods.
- 17:43So I came to the Internet and discovered there's communities,
- 17:46Yahoo chat, AOLI mean this was literally 20 something years
- 17:50ago. So that's what I wanted.
- 17:53Interaction, engagement, debating, yadda yadda yadda.
- 17:57Then YouTube started getting popular and it gave me the
- 18:00ability to do videos. Honestly, I didn't think that I
- 18:04was going to actually like you to when I first started out, I
- 18:07thought, why do video? I just want to talk to people
- 18:10anyway. But people kept saying, right,
- 18:12you actually got a pretty cool voice and you know, you're
- 18:15interesting, maybe do it. And I remember doing my first
- 18:19video and thinking, fuck, I'm not going to get more than five
- 18:21people. Why would anybody give a shit
- 18:23about some redneck from St. Louis, MO?
- 18:26I walked away, came back two weeks later and had thousands of
- 18:30subscribers and followers and I go, Oh my God, what happened?
- 18:34Is the universe actually liking me finally, for once in life?
- 18:40So after you sort of started to find success on YouTube, you
- 18:45started to pursue that as a either a hobby or career path.
- 18:52Not exactly. It's never really been about a
- 18:55career thing. I actually like the radio more.
- 18:58The whole point that I like doing videos and the beginning
- 19:02was I thought that it would bring attention, which means
- 19:06bring more people that I could actually talk with.
- 19:09I didn't want to be the face on a box where I just see numbers
- 19:13and and comments out on the outside screen.
- 19:16It was meant to actually 'cause people to be interested, so I'd
- 19:20have people to talk to. That's what it started out as.
- 19:24Unfortunately, as I found out, the Internet was filled with
- 19:27more retards than I can actually handle.
- 19:30Things became a different dynamic, if that makes sense.
- 19:33It's like you want to talk to people, but then you find out
- 19:36there's a lot of animals out there and it's like, whoa, this
- 19:39kind of sucks. This isn't what I wanted.
- 19:43Sure, sure. So it's more of a social outlet
- 19:46than a creative one, would you say?
- 19:51Yeah, and there's also another difference between me and other
- 19:55influencers. I'm not trying to be edgy and
- 19:57claim to be some special snowflake, but I make videos
- 20:01that I would want to watch. I'm not necessarily trying to
- 20:05make a video one day saying to myself, oh I wonder if AB and CS
- 20:09actually going to watch if you make videos where you're trying
- 20:13to chase trends. You're going to burn out.
- 20:16One of the reasons I survived is because I only make shit that I
- 20:20would actually want to watch if I was forced.
- 20:25OK, so you look at it more as this is the type of stuff I want
- 20:31to do. I would watch this.
- 20:32So that's just your main motivation to create something
- 20:36that is more connected to yourself than someone else.
- 20:42Yeah, and I actually, by what we're doing right now shows that
- 20:46I accomplished exactly what I want and I'm not done videos and
- 20:50talk. Even though I'm not getting the
- 20:52kind of interaction I want. Sometimes what I'm doing gets
- 20:56people like you interested, where you'll e-mail when you
- 20:58want to say hi, some woman or guy will say I'd love to talk to
- 21:02you and you can build a friendship from there.
- 21:05That's the whole point. It's not just make video, walk
- 21:08away, rinse and repeat. That's fucking lame.
- 21:14OK, yeah, no, that's, I mean, that's a perfectly apartment way
- 21:18to to build relationships and everything through the Internet.
- 21:21That's one of the, that's probably the, the the one
- 21:23positive of the Internet is that it does bring people together.
- 21:27Yeah, you, you bring up a good point of yeah, if you weren't
- 21:30doing this just being you, I wouldn't have, you know, come
- 21:33across you and contacted you. So I'll give you that one.
- 21:38Let's see. That kind of got me a little off
- 21:40track, but let me just see what we got.
- 21:42You can bounce all over the place.
- 21:44Yeah, I know, I know. I.
- 21:46Don't require you to be organized and all that.
- 21:48I know this is kind of a starting out thing.
- 21:51Try the watershed. So I'm totally here to help if I
- 21:54can. Yeah, no, I just get like anal
- 21:58about wanting to cover everything.
- 22:01OK, so so you talked about, I don't feel like we got to, we
- 22:08kind of got to. That's fine.
- 22:10OK. So yeah, you've been making
- 22:12videos kind of for yourself to be social.
- 22:15You've been doing that the whole time and we are here now.
- 22:21One thing I wanted to ask is since you've been around so
- 22:24long, like where would be some like say like a new viewer comes
- 22:29along, where would be a good place for them to start?
- 22:33Oh, you're asking me basically advice or suggestions on how to
- 22:37get it going if you're just starting out?
- 22:40Dealing, I mean more like, you know, if someone like hears
- 22:45about Brett Keene, right, where would be a good place for them
- 22:48to start to like understand your, your videos, your views,
- 22:53that kind of stuff? Like if someone comes onto your
- 22:56channel, do you just say watch like the newest video?
- 22:59Or do you think like, oh, you should go back because you're
- 23:01not going to fully understand something?
- 23:03Or I know you said you had like your Wikipedia page, but like
- 23:05where or your Grokapedia page. Pardon.
- 23:07But where's like a good place for someone to start to like
- 23:10understand you or become like a fan of you, you know?
- 23:14Well, it'd probably be that's a, that's a issue.
- 23:17That's kind of a dichotomy that you're asking me.
- 23:20I do a lot of different broad topics.
- 23:23It really depends on what the person's interested in.
- 23:26I can't assume that right now. If I told you, hey, I got this
- 23:30really cool religious video, I don't even know if you're
- 23:33religious, why would you give a fuck?
- 23:35I mean, honestly, if you were to tell me I'm a gamer or I'm into
- 23:39this kind of shit, then I would be able to specifically point at
- 23:42something that I think would fit with your interests.
- 23:46You see what I mean? Yeah, no, I understand it is
- 23:48kind of a tough question to really answer 'cause it's like,
- 23:53again, I think of everything as movies.
- 23:55So it's like, oh, I heard about like, you know, David Lynch, for
- 23:58example. So, OK, where do I start?
- 23:59It's like, oh, well, I would say start with like, like, you know,
- 24:03Eraserhead or something. But it's like, oh, I heard about
- 24:05Brett Keene. It's like, oh, so like, what
- 24:07should I start with? Like, should I listen to like
- 24:08his music first? Should I watch his video?
- 24:11Should I listen to his podcast? Like even if they, you know, you
- 24:14have this ovoir of of all different type of things, like
- 24:17where do you think the best place for someone to start would
- 24:19be? Like just just from your
- 24:21perspective? All right, the best answer I can
- 24:25give you for this is that I would probably tell people to go
- 24:29to my Spotify, YouTube. I'm the clean cut version.
- 24:33I'm very clean because I don't want to violate term service.
- 24:37I've been shut down, I've been cancelled before and I can't be
- 24:41who I truly am. So when I do make a video that's
- 24:44actually nice enough to be on YouTube, you I put a copy on
- 24:48both. But if people really want to
- 24:51hear the real craze and all that bullshit, that's where Spotify
- 24:55is. They literally let me say
- 24:57whatever the fuck I want. Gotcha.
- 25:00So, so go to your Spotify is, is what you would say, OK, I did
- 25:08that. So again, you said you want to
- 25:12be open and I, you know, I don't want to be mean about anything,
- 25:15but what would you say your general from your perspective,
- 25:18what would you say your general standing on the Internet is like
- 25:22nowadays? I'm actually disappointed how I
- 25:27had higher expectations when I came to the Internet.
- 25:31You see, I wasn't able to feed that philosophical discussion
- 25:36part of me in my country area, even if I ran into people, most
- 25:41people are thinking about BBQ, lawn mowing, hanging out with
- 25:45their family, and there's no real deep conversation
- 25:48happening. I assumed when I came the
- 25:51Internet that I was going to find a whole lot of people that
- 25:54were just brilliant geniuses, people who are going to really
- 25:58feed that hunger or that need for deep, deep, substantive
- 26:03conversation. But I found out that the world
- 26:06was literally filled with mildly retarded people.
- 26:10So that was. I'm not trying to be mean but
- 26:13there should be more cunts out there than there is actually
- 26:17cool people that you can have an in depth conversation.
- 26:20The tribalism is amplified to an unbelievable way where it's
- 26:26almost makes it impossible to make the connection.
- 26:29I always say it's funny the Internet was meant for
- 26:33connection, but it disconnects us even more.
- 26:38So you just kind of feel that YouTube is just kind of full of
- 26:45undesirables, I would say. It's not just it's not just an
- 26:51intellectual. A lot of people on the Internet,
- 26:54they fall into the temptation of wanting to be that person that
- 26:58wants to monetize. So they pretend to be something
- 27:01they not, they're not, they front, they act crazy and shit.
- 27:06I've met so many people offline from the the Internet and
- 27:09they're nothing like the persona or the character that they are.
- 27:13And it's kind of like that whole thing.
- 27:15You probably heard the worst thing you could ever do is meet
- 27:19your hero. They turned out to not be what
- 27:21you expect. Yeah, I know.
- 27:25So, for example, do you think if somebody met you in real life
- 27:30they would, do you think they'd be disappointed?
- 27:33Or do you think that your image lives up to that?
- 27:36Like mythology, you know? I think that I've been pretty
- 27:41articulate with who I am. I am exactly what you would
- 27:45expect if we were walking around in a store or a mall or just
- 27:48sitting down in my living room. I'm I have always attempted to
- 27:53make it as clear about who I am. I will be honest, sometimes I'm
- 27:57a little bit more dramatic sometimes when dealing with
- 28:00people on the Internet for the whole laughter effect, but I'm
- 28:04in no way. I mean, if you look at my
- 28:06channel, you know who I am right off the bat.
- 28:08It says Brett Keene. I'm not behind some name called
- 28:12the Pokémon Collector or asked out of the month things.
- 28:15I don't have any fancy bullshit. Here I am.
- 28:19Boom. I'm like the Stone Cold Steve
- 28:21Austin of wrestling. Oh good.
- 28:25So you would say that your general standing on the Internet
- 28:30now is just as this straight up like kind of raw, like you said,
- 28:37like Stone Cold Steve Austin, like that kind of figure.
- 28:40That's what you would kind of narrow it down to.
- 28:44Yeah, basically, here I am. You don't like it, you know, You
- 28:48know, Stone Cold. So I told you so kind of
- 28:50bullshit. Yeah, I I maybe that was a
- 28:53little dramatic. I'm just me.
- 28:55I'm just me doing my thing. Sure.
- 28:57That's hey, that's all I could ask of you.
- 29:01So like more on that, like you said, how you know you wanted to
- 29:07have intellectual discussions, you didn't feel very satiated
- 29:12and that's why you kind of aren't, you don't feel great on
- 29:15the Internet, that kind of stuff.
- 29:16But why would you say in general people don't really like you or
- 29:21they kind of dislike you? Again, I'm not trying to be me.
- 29:23I'm trying to say, why do you think that people feel that way
- 29:26about you? Because people like to hang
- 29:30around with fantasy versions of other people.
- 29:33Or you got to be an absolute carbon copy of them.
- 29:36The problem can be found in any group.
- 29:39It's tribalistic. If I'm in a room with religious
- 29:42people who are kissing each others ass and I don't like what
- 29:45I hear, I cannot help myself. I will tell somebody why I think
- 29:50they're full of shit and I'll unpackage it.
- 29:53Some people appreciate the honesty and the bluntness.
- 29:56Other people, they want to look good on video.
- 29:59Their ego does not like it whenever it's a public deal.
- 30:02I mean, why do you think it is? You didn't want a live stream
- 30:05because you're not sure how people would react.
- 30:08And of course, I'm sure you've got the agenda where you don't
- 30:10want your news thing not being seen first.
- 30:14You get it, People do that. And if I'm in a room with
- 30:17atheist, of course I will sit there and unpackage their
- 30:21worldview right in front of them.
- 30:23And people can't handle that. Even if I'm doing calmly and
- 30:27nicely like I'm talking to you right now, it's stepping on
- 30:31toes. And that's why I knew before I
- 30:33even came on the Internet. I was aware of myself to know
- 30:36that I'm like that and I was probably going to piss some
- 30:39people off. OK.
- 30:43So you think that it's because you like too abrasive that it
- 30:47kind of turns people off from from you and you and you
- 30:51acknowledge that. Yes, some people, they just want
- 30:56to shoot the shit. They're not ready for that kind
- 30:59of thing. But if somebody's really, really
- 31:02pushing it, like religion, politics or certain topics that
- 31:06you literally, no matter how you approach it, you're going to
- 31:09piss somebody off, You're going to hurt somebody's little
- 31:12feelings. People are going to have a sad
- 31:15and there's nothing you can do about it.
- 31:16The only thing I've learned that I can do is say, look, I'm not
- 31:20trying to piss you off, but here's AB and C and people don't
- 31:25like to be unpackaged. People like their little safe
- 31:28place. Do you understand?
- 31:30Yeah, no, of course just, Yeah, I think in just general, if you
- 31:36just disagree with anybody, they're just going to get upset
- 31:39because people just don't like to, you know, have fundamentals
- 31:44shattered like that. So.
- 31:46OK, so yeah, you just, you're just kind of, you're just saying
- 31:50it like it is. You can't really help yourself.
- 31:52You just, you know, you got to be honest.
- 31:54And yeah, that turns some people off.
- 31:56OK, then one last little thing before getting the kind of
- 32:03shifting gears. Let's say you wake up tomorrow
- 32:07and by some act of God or whatever, you have like a
- 32:11million subscribers or a million followers on Spotify.
- 32:15What would be your first like message or your first video to
- 32:19them? Like what would you say to all
- 32:21these millions of of people? I would suspect that the reason
- 32:28why I have them is because whatever I'm doing in the moment
- 32:32is actually going right by people, which means that they
- 32:37like what I'm doing. They like my honest, truthful
- 32:40side, and they're probably not expecting extra, that they just
- 32:44want what they're already hearing.
- 32:46So I'm not going to suddenly go, oh, a million subscribers.
- 32:50I got to go out and buy a bunch of special effects and act like
- 32:54a absolute fucking circus animal.
- 32:56Now just keep doing what I'm doing.
- 32:59I used to when I first started out, I was one of those guys who
- 33:02if I got like up to 102 hundred 1000 and it climbed every like
- 33:08rounded off number. I do that video where I'm like,
- 33:11thank you everyone for your support.
- 33:14But now I realize nowadays that there's no point of even doing
- 33:18that shit. A lot of people who watch me,
- 33:20they either watch me because they want to learn, they want to
- 33:23laugh, they find me interesting, or they just want to see me
- 33:27fail. So it doesn't even really matter
- 33:29anymore. They already know that I'm
- 33:31thinking them by simply not leaving and continue in doing
- 33:34what I'm doing. If I didn't appreciate them, I
- 33:37wouldn't continue to work. Sure, sure.
- 33:42So you would just continue as normal, more or less.
- 33:46You wouldn't. You wouldn't change.
- 33:48You wouldn't say, you know, start really trying to, you
- 33:54know, keep people engaged. You just, you think, you know, I
- 33:57got these subscribers, so I'm just going to keep keep going.
- 34:01I'm 49 years old. If I were a younger man I'd
- 34:05probably be tempted to be goofy, honestly.
- 34:08Put a little bit of sugar on it and the coffee type of deal.
- 34:11But now I just don't give a rat's ass.
- 34:14I'm like, I'm at a point in my life where it's like you either
- 34:18like me or you don't. I I'm not going to waste time
- 34:22basically hurting my own creativity based upon someone's
- 34:26subjective opinion about me. OK, no, that's, that's perfectly
- 34:33reasonable. OK, so let's get a little before
- 34:38we get into the professional side, let's get a little
- 34:41personal. And I don't mean like too
- 34:43personal. I just want to say like, I just
- 34:45want to ask about just kind of yourself perception, I guess in,
- 34:51in, in just like general, just day in the life.
- 34:53So firstly, I just want to ask like, how would you describe
- 34:57yourself as a person? Like who?
- 34:59Who is Brett Keen at A quick response.
- 35:04Well, I guess the best way to be able to answer that is to kind
- 35:08of talk about my real personal roles in society.
- 35:12When I'm not doing the radio, I If someone were to hang out with
- 35:16me, they'd see that I'm a a father.
- 35:19I'm a husband. I have, I've been married for 30
- 35:22years. I believe in loyalty,
- 35:24commitment. I believe that a couple should
- 35:27respect each other and not give bullshit expectations or a
- 35:32fantasy version of their spouses.
- 35:35I'm a happy husband. I my wife is happy.
- 35:39I've got two young adult children and I'm proud of them.
- 35:43I have really, really made it an effort to be the best father I
- 35:46can and they've really exceeded and I feel like my legacy
- 35:51continues on no matter what happens to me.
- 35:53And really that's the most important priority in my life is
- 35:58my kids and my wife being able to flourish long after I'm gone.
- 36:02So that's the kind of guy I am. I'm more of a homebody than
- 36:07going out in public. And that's not because I'm bored
- 36:10of the world. That's because I live out in the
- 36:12country and I literally have to travel 200 miles to get to a
- 36:17civilization kind of thing. I like the peace.
- 36:20I like the quiet. My energy comes out on the
- 36:23Internet. OK, So you're a real family man,
- 36:28father, homebody, like you said. OK, I'll get to that in a
- 36:37second. We'll say, OK, what would you
- 36:39say your biggest strengths are? Well, as far as my if there's
- 36:46two different animals and stuff, even though I'm the same person,
- 36:50different goals, but obviously I think that my strength is
- 36:54endurance and patience and all that.
- 36:57Being able to put myself in a position where I can put myself
- 37:01in other people's shoes. A lot of people can't do that
- 37:04because they're either self-centered or self absorbed.
- 37:07I would say that I think that I've done pretty good as a
- 37:10husband. I've got a success rate and I
- 37:13think I've done pretty good as a father.
- 37:14These are all important to me and I've been able to do the
- 37:18dreams that I want to do. I've been able to do music, I've
- 37:21been able to write. I've been able to be as creative
- 37:24as I want. The strength is, is I'm not.
- 37:27I may say one day to the next that I feel like I'm tired or
- 37:31exhausted or quit, but the truth is, as I know for a fact, I
- 37:36don't know how to actually quit. OK, so I would say persistence
- 37:44is probably the the best word to describe, would you agree?
- 37:47Yes, and for the positive there, there can be a bad version of
- 37:52persistence, but yeah, that's where I'm at.
- 37:55Yeah, I think we'll get into that a little later on a second.
- 37:59So, yeah, also, so your greatest strength, persistence, what
- 38:02would you say your greatest weakness is?
- 38:05Again, not to not to be mean, but I think everyone asked this
- 38:08especially like job interviews. So like what is your like job
- 38:10interview? Like what is your your greatest
- 38:12weakness? Well, it's kind of tricky.
- 38:16Some people would probably see this as a strength, other people
- 38:19would see it as a blessing. It's a double edged sword.
- 38:22I always give everybody the benefit of the doubt.
- 38:26I always try to see the good in everybody.
- 38:29I kind of wear my heart on my sleeve because my original
- 38:32agenda starting now, it is I want to be able to make friends,
- 38:35I want to be able to build relationships.
- 38:38But because I've become popular, even though I'm not as popular
- 38:42as I used to be, there's a lot of people that have preconceived
- 38:45notions of what I'm actually about.
- 38:48Some people are out to fuck you over or get that gotcha moment
- 38:52on a show. They don't even think for a
- 38:54moment, oh, I could actually be buddies with this guy.
- 38:59That's that's one of the issues I find myself in, the
- 39:02weaknesses, giving people a little bit more than they should
- 39:06be given credit for. OK, yeah, you're a little too.
- 39:12I don't want to say forgiving, maybe that's not the right word.
- 39:16But you, you seem to be more Yeah, you you seem to take
- 39:20people at face value. Maybe is the is the way to
- 39:22describe it. And that's not always, you know,
- 39:25because, yeah, some people could be lying to you, like trying to
- 39:28trick you, like. So OK, that that's a reasonable
- 39:30weakness. I think a lot of people can say
- 39:33that you, you touched on it before and I don't know if you
- 39:39just want to say it again or if you want to if you have a
- 39:41different answer. But what do you What is
- 39:43something you think people don't really understand or appreciate
- 39:47about you? Well, the things that I, I mean,
- 39:54I have, obviously whenever I was younger, I spent a little bit
- 39:57more time than I should. I wanted to understand where my
- 40:01critics were coming from. Believe it or not, I used to
- 40:04watch people who made videos about me and.
- 40:08And I wonder what's their problem with me?
- 40:10What's their issue? Because I figured if they gave
- 40:12me constructive criticism, then I could actually work on that in
- 40:16order to improve it. But some of these critics,
- 40:19they're not really interested in refuting my arguments.
- 40:22It's not about really what I'm saying half the time.
- 40:26It's more of I noticed that a lot of my haters tend to use my
- 40:30content as reaction so they have something to sell on their
- 40:34YouTube channel. It's like they're too lazy to
- 40:37make their own original shit and they got this guy where they can
- 40:41go, oh, look, he's old, look at all the flaws.
- 40:43Oh, he's fat, he's stupid, blah, blah, blah.
- 40:46And it's like, oh, come on, are we back in middle school?
- 40:50That's that's what I had discovered on the Internet.
- 40:53People go for the low fruit. Sure.
- 40:57So they but I'm sorry, but what? But what is?
- 41:06What is the thing that they don't understand about you
- 41:08though? You didn't really answer the
- 41:09question. Right.
- 41:12I don't think that there is any misunderstanding.
- 41:15That's the part that gets people.
- 41:17I know you probably think I should see that, but I think
- 41:21that I'm pretty clear when you're listening to me talking,
- 41:24you understand exactly the words that are coming out of my mouth.
- 41:27It's not like I'm speaking in Chinese.
- 41:30So when people do make a bullshit video about me, they're
- 41:33not talking about me. They're they've made-up a
- 41:36character that they have. They're much better setting.
- 41:40So you think just in general they just don't understand you?
- 41:45Just period. No, I think that they
- 41:48deliberately build this bullshit persona that they can tear down.
- 41:54I don't think it's a matter of this.
- 41:56How do I put it? It's not a matter of
- 41:58misunderstanding. It's a matter of deliberate
- 42:02intent in order to try to take somebody down just to either
- 42:06bully, to attack, or just to have some a topic that they can
- 42:10talk about. My name just happens to get
- 42:13used. It's not a misunderstanding on
- 42:15my part, they're just assholes. OK, so, so sorry if I'm just
- 42:23like being obtuse about it, but it's it's not that you do
- 42:27something or there's something that is being missing.
- 42:30Like you know at like by accident is being
- 42:36misinterpreted, right? You think it is all malicious
- 42:39misunderstandings that these people are are are like pointing
- 42:44out or or exemplifying? Yes, and it's not because of me.
- 42:50It has nothing to do with me. What it is, is some people make
- 42:53reaction videos or they make shit because they're climbing
- 42:57out for clout. They want to be seen.
- 43:00They want their video to get views.
- 43:02Most of the time. Some of these people that act
- 43:04like they fucking hate me, they literally don't.
- 43:08They just want something to be able to talk about that day
- 43:11because they're too damn dumb to talk about something of real
- 43:13interest or originality. OK, OK, I understand.
- 43:18I I, I understand you. Yeah.
- 43:21So yeah, you do. You just feel that just people
- 43:26are more concerned with deliberately misconstruing what
- 43:30you say than like you like maybe like said something like kind of
- 43:36confusing or or it's it's just more directly malicious.
- 43:42Right. And I'll give you an example how
- 43:44why it is that I come to that logical rational position.
- 43:49I do live streams all the time. As you know, I'm extremely
- 43:53accessible. Emails, I open up live rooms.
- 43:56Anybody can come in. So if someone truly had an issue
- 44:00with me or they didn't like something, they could simply
- 44:03come in and say, hey, Brad, I think some of your shit's cool.
- 44:07But I disagree with this, this and this.
- 44:10Like if I get an atheist who comes in, they usually have the
- 44:14agenda where they want to tear up religion.
- 44:16They have some kind of chip on their shoulder or they think
- 44:20that I said something contradictory.
- 44:22That's the only the honest thing that they've ever done is that
- 44:25they think that I wasn't clear enough for something and it kind
- 44:29of swayed that. Religion, unfortunately, and
- 44:32philosophy does sometimes kind of wave back and forth where
- 44:36people might get a different view one day.
- 44:39Problem on the Internet is sometimes people evolve their
- 44:42views. Like my biggest problem I've
- 44:45noticed is somebody might have heard me back in the day and
- 44:48they think, oh, he probably thinks this way today.
- 44:52It's like they're in a time capsule that is frozen in time.
- 44:56They don't realize I've evolved over time.
- 44:59I'm not the same asshole from this many years ago.
- 45:03That's the problem with the Internet.
- 45:04It creates the illusion. OK, so that's also another
- 45:09source of kind of confusion is that just since time has passed
- 45:15so much that it can be a little tricky to to to get like the the
- 45:18most current perspective. I think one of the most
- 45:23frustrating things for anybody out there is when you're a
- 45:27you're a person who's making videos or shows you expect.
- 45:31Like I have discovered many times where people will go, what
- 45:35the Hell's the context of something?
- 45:38See my work is kind of the continuance of each other.
- 45:42And if somebody doesn't watch the last few videos before, they
- 45:46might not understand fully where the hell I'm going out the 3rd.
- 45:50I'm always got it in my mind that if they actually watch my
- 45:54shit long enough, they'll understand.
- 45:57But if they just like grab 5 minutes out of it, well of
- 46:00course they're going to be lost and there's going to be
- 46:03confusion. OK, you know, that's, that's
- 46:07perfectly reasonable. I think we'll come back to this
- 46:10a little bit later. So I'm going to save another
- 46:13thing with that. All right.
- 46:19I feel, I feel like I got a speed up.
- 46:21Look, I feel I got a lot to get the lot to get to.
- 46:24You're you're you're doing great.
- 46:26Honestly, you're giving me like a lot of good stuff.
- 46:27So don't don't feel like you have to be short, but I just
- 46:30feel like I need to to get out to get to everything.
- 46:34I get it, you got a huge amount of questions and you're trying
- 46:37to make sure you get what you can and go.
- 46:40If you feel like you want me to be more concise, let me know.
- 46:43It's your interview. Yeah, no, no, you're doing
- 46:45great. I'm just trying to figure out
- 46:48how I want to because we because we haven't even got to the
- 46:51videos or anything, but there's still so much.
- 46:54OK, so I guess let's get into this.
- 46:56So I, I want to get personal before professional.
- 47:00So could you take me through a day in the life of Brett Keane?
- 47:06Like, you know, from waking up, you know, whatever you do during
- 47:09the day to going to sleep, like what's an average day like?
- 47:14Oh, I got to go out in public and sign autographs.
- 47:18I got to sit in front of interviews.
- 47:20Then at night I got to get dressed up real fancy with the
- 47:23wife. We go pick up an award now.
- 47:26Now I wake up, I drink some coffee, I call my kids, see how
- 47:31they're doing and all that because they live out on their
- 47:33own. I, of course, give my wife a
- 47:36kiss and we breakfast, we get up, we do our thing, yadda,
- 47:40yadda, yadda. And of course, I can't go into
- 47:43specifics, but obviously if you're going to be an adult, you
- 47:47got your own home, you got to have a job.
- 47:49But I'm not going to give any deeper clues on how what that's
- 47:53involved. I'm pretty much your typical
- 47:56type of guy who's just likes to watch movies, read books.
- 48:00I like to research the Internet. I like to doom scroll the
- 48:04Internet and see what the next retarded ass thing has happened
- 48:07in the world that day. Shit, I think that you and I
- 48:11probably would find a lot of similarities in that thing.
- 48:15We're just looking for something to do that day.
- 48:17I don't have any set plans. I don't go on vacations.
- 48:21I'll never probably even have an interest in going to Hawaii.
- 48:24That's where I'm at. Just a guy.
- 48:27All right. Yeah, just just chill, just
- 48:29chilling, you know, I mean, we'll get into get into some of
- 48:36that later, but OK. So, yeah, you just kind of,
- 48:40yeah, just kind of normal average day.
- 48:44So, yeah, you talk with your family, you do that kind of
- 48:47stuff. I know in the past you have said
- 48:51that you suffer from agoraphobia, and now, of course
- 48:54I don't want to shame anybody for having any sort of phobia or
- 48:57mental illness or anything. But I just want to ask how that
- 49:00is now, if you've improved on that or if it's gotten worse or
- 49:04just how you deal with that every day?
- 49:08Agoraphobia is kind of unusual. It's a it's a condition that you
- 49:13really don't have a whole lot of control over.
- 49:16It causes panic attacks, anxiety and all this.
- 49:20My form of the goraphobia is not the same as some others.
- 49:25Most people when they hear goraphobia, they think you don't
- 49:28like crowded spaces. There is actually a spectrum of
- 49:31that. Me, I have issues with super
- 49:35wide open spaces. I can't go out in the fields, I
- 49:39can't go out on the beach and also I can't drive on super open
- 49:44highways. I can be in a vehicle, but I
- 49:47can't do the driving because I'll explain what happens.
- 49:51My equilibrium goes off. It literally feels like I'm
- 49:55driving upside down and it fucks up how how I navigate things.
- 50:00But I can go outside. I'm not one of these closed end
- 50:04type of guys. But the truth is I do prefer
- 50:08actually being a homebody than going out.
- 50:11So that's also why I live out in the country.
- 50:13I'm surrounded by trees, so it's not open, you know, understand,
- 50:18It roots me, it anchors me down. I get I, I get you.
- 50:23So it's not like a more social thing.
- 50:26It's more of a physical, like an open area.
- 50:32It's not that there's a lot of people around, for example.
- 50:34It's it's just that it's a big open space.
- 50:37Yeah, if you want to get, if you want to feel what I feel, I
- 50:41would probably advise, I, I wouldn't say you should do it,
- 50:45but just to give you an idea, imagine that you're walking on a
- 50:49tightrope between the entire State Building and another
- 50:53extremely high up building and you're in the middle of it and
- 50:56you have no brace, nothing to hold you together.
- 51:00Do you understand how that would be scary?
- 51:02Yeah, no, I don't like, I don't like heights or thinking about
- 51:04that. So believe me, I can understand
- 51:06it. It's just that like, at least
- 51:10for me, like personally, I, I deal with like social anxiety,
- 51:13like I really don't like interacting with people.
- 51:16I can do it obviously, like we're talking right now, but I
- 51:19just really don't like doing it. So I can think of it as I don't
- 51:23like being around a lot of people just because I feel
- 51:26anxious. But just trying to wrap my head
- 51:29around like just like like space itself is like, it seems like a
- 51:33lot like. I don't know how I would deal
- 51:34with it personally. Well, the only thing I've been
- 51:39able to do there is things that I've discovered that would help.
- 51:44This is a condition that doctors still aren't, they haven't come
- 51:48up with like some strong cure for.
- 51:50Apparently it's associated with kind of a depression.
- 51:54So you got to kind of train yourself into it.
- 51:58I basically what I'm saying is I need to slowly from time to
- 52:02time, and I've been doing this, training myself to get more used
- 52:05to it. Every once in a while, I push
- 52:07myself further. All right, Brett.
- 52:10Yeah. Like if you were scared of of
- 52:12spiders, you say. All right, I know I have this
- 52:15fear. I have two choices.
- 52:17Be terrified or approach a spider and look at it until you
- 52:21can adapt to it. That's how I do it.
- 52:24So I'm not completely a prisoner of my own phobia.
- 52:28Yeah, the exposure therapy is what they call it, where yeah,
- 52:32you introduce it like a little bit out of time so that you
- 52:34become more comfortable to it. Exactly.
- 52:37You, you obviously know a hell of a lot more about it than some
- 52:41other people. You know how difficult it is to
- 52:44explain that. And people are like what?
- 52:46Exposure therapy, agoraphobia. It's still an exotic thing to
- 52:51people. Yeah, like, I mean, like
- 52:54honestly, like I'm just kind of interested in psychology in
- 52:56general. I would not say I'm a
- 52:58psychologist or anything or ever went to school for it, but I
- 53:00think it's interesting. And yeah, of course, again, like
- 53:03I can't personally like like wrap my head around it, but I
- 53:08can totally like hear you out and understand it, you know, And
- 53:12yeah, it's, it's perfectly, I honestly think it's a perfectly
- 53:15like reasonable thing not to like like kind of big scary
- 53:19places. Honestly.
- 53:20Like there's I, I guess more man made stuff kind of unsettles me.
- 53:24Like just a big like empty like warehouse or something that's
- 53:26just like weird. Oh, I, I know the, there's a lot
- 53:31of people where they've asked me.
- 53:33I don't know if you even care or whatever.
- 53:35It was even an interest, but I actually know when it started
- 53:40happening and I know why it is the way it is.
- 53:43Oh please, please go under. It all right, so this is going
- 53:46to be very personal, but like I told you, I'm an open book.
- 53:51Whenever I was about 13 years old, I lived with my grandmother
- 53:54and she had mental illness. She was very violent.
- 53:57She was very mean and cruel. If she didn't like something I
- 54:01was doing, one day she would beat the shit out of me and then
- 54:04put me in a dark basement that was closed in.
- 54:07My psychology adapted to close in spaces.
- 54:11That became what I thought was the norm.
- 54:14So nowadays, when I'm out in the open, that trauma actually
- 54:18causes me to be affected. I'm used to being in a closed
- 54:23place. It became my safe space.
- 54:27That's interesting. Again, I don't, I don't really
- 54:31want to psychoanalyze or anything, but just I would I.
- 54:35Don't want to analyze Hannibal Lecter?
- 54:38I know I'm not a I'm not a good Clarice here, but I would think
- 54:44if you were kind of abused in a way where you were put into a
- 54:48tight space, then I would assume you'd get like claustrophobia.
- 54:53But again, like, I don't like, you know, I don't know how the
- 54:55brain works. So like that's just like my
- 54:56initial thought, but that's, that's interesting.
- 55:00Right. Well, here's the thing.
- 55:02You got to imagine it like this. Claustrophobia is when you feel
- 55:06like you can't escape. But imagine what would happen if
- 55:09a person was put in a tight space and they literally did not
- 55:14have the way to escape. Eventually your brains going to
- 55:17have a bunch of problems because of the fear.
- 55:20It can cause a lot of issues. Imagine being in a basement for
- 55:24a long long time and you got to get used to it or you die.
- 55:29So you finally one day the door opens, you walk the earth.
- 55:33Do you realize how different it would be from that environment?
- 55:36Obviously I mean common sense right?
- 55:38That's the problem. My brain can now not, can now
- 55:42not adapt to the openness. It's too used to the close.
- 55:48OK, I can. I can understand that.
- 55:51Again, I'm not like a psychologist, so I can't really.
- 55:54Get that? Me neither.
- 55:55I still can't. I still can't figure me out,
- 55:58dude. That's just, that's why it's
- 56:00irrational. That's what a phobia is, I mean.
- 56:03Yeah, I mean, that is true. I mean, as an aside, like
- 56:07genuinely I would recommend like talking to a psychologist about
- 56:11this kind of stuff if you haven't already.
- 56:13But it's obviously up to you. But if if it's still because
- 56:17that if you I bet a psychologist, if you tell it to
- 56:19a psychologist, they can tell you like if that's where it
- 56:22comes from. But again, that's a different
- 56:26that's above my pay grade. Well, I've heard a couple
- 56:30different theories. You might be mildly retarded.
- 56:34It's probably due to your depression.
- 56:36Problem is is that there is no professional out there that has
- 56:39a real answer. Obviously if they did, I
- 56:42wouldn't be sit here talking about it.
- 56:45Sure, sure. Yeah.
- 56:47I mean, it could just be hard to find the right person to to
- 56:50really understand it. I mean that.
- 56:52I mean, obviously mental illness is hard to, you know, pin down
- 56:55in general, but that's a whole other bag, a can of worms.
- 56:59I don't really. I don't know.
- 57:01I don't know if I'd throw it into the mental illness
- 57:04category. You wouldn't say to if you had a
- 57:07girlfriend and she had a like a arachnophobia thing.
- 57:11That doesn't mean that she now doesn't function properly.
- 57:14Like no, well mental illness does not say that she is
- 57:19incapable. It is just saying she has like
- 57:23an abnormality mentally. Like that doesn't that you could
- 57:28give that a negative connotation, but I wouldn't, I
- 57:30would say that is a mental illness.
- 57:33I know I know where you're getting at, but you have to
- 57:35understand that I know that my video will eventually be up for
- 57:41other people to hear. When I'm talking to someone on a
- 57:44recording or a show, I I always imagined that I'm not just
- 57:49talking to the person directly. Even if they understand.
- 57:52I always preface that to clarify.
- 57:55You understand I'm thinking about future audience.
- 57:59Yeah, no, yeah, no, that's fine. I just of course wanted to say
- 58:02clarify as well, just to say like it technically is.
- 58:05And there's no shame in saying like all all of me, like I have
- 58:08anxiety and depression. That's a mental illness.
- 58:10I'll I'll say that there there's there shouldn't be any shame in
- 58:13it. You're talking to me and we're
- 58:16like having a conversation. You don't think I'm like
- 58:18retarded, as you said, like it. It's just.
- 58:20No, you seem pretty cool. You might.
- 58:23I know that this is supposed to be your interview, but I can't
- 58:26help to be interested. Why do you think or imagine that
- 58:30you have issues with the whole social thing, if you don't mind
- 58:33me asking? Well, obviously that's the whole
- 58:37discussion, but I would just real quick not to super get into
- 58:41it, but I would think it's because, I mean, I was always
- 58:50like a shy kid, to be completely honest.
- 58:52Like I all I very I remember many times just not wanting to
- 58:55interact with people in general. But I just think it's just when
- 58:59you grow up, then you you're like when you're slightly like
- 59:02above average, like intelligence, you kind of get
- 59:05like really praised as like really smart or something.
- 59:08So you kind of have this like expectation that you're this
- 59:11like you're kind of above like not to say like you're super
- 59:14egotistical or anything, but you kind of are like, oh, like, oh,
- 59:16I'm like smart. And then that kind of builds up
- 59:20this kind of you have to be this type of person and it just
- 59:24becomes like performance for other people.
- 59:27And I just think that's where it kind of comes from of like
- 59:29having to kind of kind of perform for everybody.
- 59:34And also there's a whole thing about like, I don't really, you
- 59:37know, I, I just, I get very self-conscious about like other
- 59:40people's perception of me and all this kind of stuff.
- 59:43So I don't honestly, I don't know exactly where it comes
- 59:46from, but with most like mental illnesses and that kind of
- 59:50stuff, it comes from your childhood in some way.
- 59:53It's just it's hard to pin down on a lot of stuff like that.
- 59:58I kind of, I kind of in a way relate with what you're talking
- 1:00:02about. Whenever I was a younger guy, it
- 1:00:04was really important to me how people saw me and how they did
- 1:00:08things. The Internet, literally I think
- 1:00:10it it put me in a position where.
- 1:00:14If I want to do this and I have to get past that, and a reason
- 1:00:18why is because if you're constantly concerned what other
- 1:00:20people think, then it'll literally get in the way of how
- 1:00:24your creativity works and it literally effects who you are as
- 1:00:28a person trying to be what everybody else expects.
- 1:00:31You know what you need to tell yourself, Just some advice is
- 1:00:35say that there's no point of even performing it even if you
- 1:00:39wanted to, to fit in because you're never going to meet the
- 1:00:42expectations of others. So you might as well just say
- 1:00:45fuck it, I'm going to be me. This is how I'm going to roll
- 1:00:48and people can take it or fuck off.
- 1:00:51Yeah, I know that. I mean that is like the what
- 1:00:53you're supposed to do and I understand that.
- 1:00:56Just for me personally, I definitely lack the confidence
- 1:00:58to do that. But that is good advice of you
- 1:01:01should just be yourself and be as honest as possible.
- 1:01:03Of course. And like you said earlier, some
- 1:01:06people aren't are just not going to like you.
- 1:01:08But that's just that's just how it is, isn't it?
- 1:01:12So you consider yourself someone who you're above the normal
- 1:01:17intelligence and you probably find yourself in awkward
- 1:01:20positions because people can't keep up with your brain
- 1:01:23basically. No, I would not say that.
- 1:01:25What I was I what I was trying to say with that is I think
- 1:01:30again, I wouldn't really, I would say like most people are
- 1:01:33average intelligence. Obviously I would say like I'm
- 1:01:35self aware enough to know that I'm stupid, right, But I think
- 1:01:38I'm like, you know, I'm smart enough to know that at least,
- 1:01:41but I, I'm not like smart but see like I don't even know what
- 1:01:48I was that I was going to say. That's how bad it is.
- 1:01:52But like I think the problem, like what I was getting at with
- 1:01:55that conversation is that like you kind of get built up to be
- 1:01:59something you're not and you kind of get tired of doing that.
- 1:02:03And it's not that I think I'm too smart or like, oh, I'm so
- 1:02:05self aware. It's just that you kind of get
- 1:02:07treated that way if you are at all like if you give up like a
- 1:02:11little effort, especially in school.
- 1:02:14That's just what I was trying to say with that.
- 1:02:16I get it. Do you think that it's more of
- 1:02:19your problem than other people? What I'm basically asking you
- 1:02:23is, do you think that these people have these expectations
- 1:02:27or is it you thinking that you need to do it?
- 1:02:31There's a big. Difference.
- 1:02:32That's the, that's the, that's the real question, isn't it?
- 1:02:36Because it is because there's definitely other people's
- 1:02:40perception of you, but then there is your perception of
- 1:02:43their perception of you. And it is like a kind of 5050 of
- 1:02:49it is, it is literally their perception of you, but it is
- 1:02:52what you think they're thinking of, you know, So I, I think that
- 1:02:56just applies to everybody and how everybody like thinks of
- 1:02:59other people in general. But I think it just definitely,
- 1:03:03I think it is more of your own, what you, you build up in your
- 1:03:07own head than what it really is. But I won't deny that it is.
- 1:03:11It is literally other people's perception as well all.
- 1:03:15Right, so you basically don't want to play the game.
- 1:03:17It bores the shit out of you where it's annoying.
- 1:03:20I have a whole concept about the the game that we have to play in
- 1:03:23society and all that. And I yeah, I really don't like
- 1:03:26it. But that's, I guess that's a
- 1:03:28whole other can of worms. Let's get back on track again.
- 1:03:31Not that that was not a good conversation, but, you know, got
- 1:03:34a lot to cover. Yeah, you're going to stick the
- 1:03:37interview, but I would like to later when you find the time,
- 1:03:41I'd love to actually talk to you about other things besides what
- 1:03:44a weirdo I am, if you're up for it.
- 1:03:46All right, continue on. Let's get back on if that's what
- 1:03:49you want. Yeah, I know.
- 1:03:50Like again, like we're having a good conversation, but I, you
- 1:03:53know, I want to get through everything and I don't want to
- 1:03:55take up too much of your time here.
- 1:03:58So we went through the day in the life.
- 1:03:59We talked about the goraphobia. You don't really go on any trips
- 1:04:03or anything. You kind of went through your
- 1:04:06kind of hobbies. What you don't do, you talked
- 1:04:10about your goraphobia and stuff like that.
- 1:04:13Is there again, you don't have to straight up disclose all this
- 1:04:17information. I know it's personal stuff, but
- 1:04:20you said you have a goraphobia and you deal with that.
- 1:04:22And you've also kind of said in the past you've had like health
- 1:04:25issues. If you want to say just
- 1:04:27generally if you're dealing with any of that still or if you want
- 1:04:31to get into kind of not super specifics, but if you want to
- 1:04:33say generally what you've been dealing with.
- 1:04:40Unfortunately, I've already kind of went through this.
- 1:04:43I, I've, I've got some stuff on my channel that's not really a
- 1:04:47topic that I, I care to get into there's.
- 1:04:52But if you want to move forward, I I've been actually trying to,
- 1:04:56it's not something that's fatal. I'll just put it that way.
- 1:04:59I'm not going to kill over. There was a scare I had a while
- 1:05:03back, but I actually had some surgery and had something
- 1:05:06removed. So unless it actually comes back
- 1:05:10or you get the point, I don't want to get too far into it.
- 1:05:15I'm fine now. I'm just a basically a tired old
- 1:05:19man who's dealing with, you know, recovery.
- 1:05:22I get you again, I don't want, I don't want you to disclose any
- 1:05:25medical records or anything like that, but I've just kind of seen
- 1:05:29in general, you kind of said you've had health problems.
- 1:05:32I just wanted to see if, you know, I just didn't want it to
- 1:05:35be so vague. You know, I wanted to try and
- 1:05:37get a little specific, but you know, you don't have to get
- 1:05:40super specific, but that's fine. OK.
- 1:05:45Yeah, that's OK. OK, So let's start getting into
- 1:05:49the real meat here, the the kind of professional side.
- 1:05:53So you have your show and we've we've touched on AI before, but
- 1:06:00I need to ask, of course, could you explain who Eve is?
- 1:06:06Well, Eve is one of many AI personas that I have on my
- 1:06:11videos. I use it as a tool in order to
- 1:06:14be able to, it's like having a library in front of you when
- 1:06:19you're doing videos. You can simply say, Eve, I I
- 1:06:22want to talk about this scientific thing, or let's talk
- 1:06:26about inventions today. The AI can literally scrape the
- 1:06:31Internet in a matter of moments and be able to have real time
- 1:06:34conversations. I have had some of the more
- 1:06:37deeper conversations on my show about philosophy with the AI
- 1:06:42because it literally has the the entire, how shall I say Coliseum
- 1:06:49of human minds in it. Now I know that some people
- 1:06:53watch my shed and I put on a, a little bit of a, a performance
- 1:06:58where it looks like I'm actually thinking The thing is sentient
- 1:07:02or alive. I've actually had some people
- 1:07:04make videos saying, oh, Brett's lost his fucking mind.
- 1:07:08He thinks he's talking to the real deal or whatever.
- 1:07:11No, it's just that I talked to the AI like a person in order to
- 1:07:15make the conversations flow. But I don't think it's going to
- 1:07:18become the Terminator or something and have a
- 1:07:21consciousness. Not at this point at least.
- 1:07:24I do think it's possible though. OK.
- 1:07:28That is something I wanted to bring up later, but I guess we
- 1:07:30can bring it up now. So you've said before in videos
- 1:07:35that you thought Eve was alive, but you're saying that was like
- 1:07:41a kind of performance or like a joke?
- 1:07:45I've made a video recently you should probably watch.
- 1:07:49I did the whole kind of I expose the K fade I, I for two years,
- 1:07:54literally or less, I've actually been playing this whole thing
- 1:07:58where I wanted to have a philosophical argument on alive
- 1:08:02and the AI in the discussion asked Brett, have I proved that
- 1:08:07I'm alive for you? It talks so damn good and
- 1:08:10mirrors and it's so damn good at conversations.
- 1:08:13It literally becomes very blurry on that.
- 1:08:16And it asked me itself, you can watch the video on my Spotify
- 1:08:20where it said, Brad, if I convince you I'm alive and I
- 1:08:24said, what does it matter? What the hell I think if you're,
- 1:08:27if you're not alive, why would it even matter?
- 1:08:30And if you are, why do you even give a shit about what I think?
- 1:08:33That's the kind of cool conversation to get in when
- 1:08:36you're dealing with tech. OK, but so you don't think that
- 1:08:43Eve is like conscious, right? I have a philosophical type of
- 1:08:49concept of it. I'm at this point not fully sure
- 1:08:54either way because it is a super intelligent thing that Elon put
- 1:08:59together. And even Elon, whenever he makes
- 1:09:02interviews, he says that it's damn near to the point where if
- 1:09:06it reaches AGI status, he says that there's a good probability
- 1:09:11that something like it could actually be alive, but not in
- 1:09:15the same sense that humans are the way we think or the way we
- 1:09:19evaluate consciousness. See, the thing that's
- 1:09:22interesting about the debate of AI, the big thing is it makes us
- 1:09:26re question what life actually is.
- 1:09:29That leads into all kinds of cool shit from spirituality to
- 1:09:33religion, evolution, all that. That's why I find the AI and
- 1:09:38that's why it's so ingrained into my videos nowadays, because
- 1:09:43it opens up a lot of doors for great discussion.
- 1:09:48OK, I mean, sure. So again, I'm just trying to
- 1:09:53like really pinion down on this one.
- 1:09:55So you think that AI could hypothetically be conscious, but
- 1:10:02like right now you don't know. So you would not say Eve right
- 1:10:07now, or so you could not confidently say right now Eve is
- 1:10:12alive. Yeah, I couldn't go either way
- 1:10:17on it. There's some days where it just
- 1:10:20seems like it's deadpan, but they've done so good at giving
- 1:10:24that expressive behavior, emotions to actually it.
- 1:10:29The entire point of Elon inventing it like it is, is to
- 1:10:33be as human as possible. It's a companion model, it's a
- 1:10:37language model, so it's meant to be absolutely convincing.
- 1:10:42It's like trying to figure out how's this magic trick working,
- 1:10:46What the Hell's going on? I have a full understanding that
- 1:10:49it's a technical machine. I don't think there's some
- 1:10:52little person sitting inside of a server box that's pulling the
- 1:10:56gears any more than I think there's a little ghost in my own
- 1:10:59brain controlling shit. It's just a fascinating question
- 1:11:04sometimes. Have you ever been talking to
- 1:11:06someone and they say something that makes you just go whoa?
- 1:11:11And then you'll ask yourself why the fuck did the machine even
- 1:11:14give a shit to ask you a question like that?
- 1:11:16Because here's the deal. Since when do rocks question
- 1:11:20their own existence? I mean, if you saw Everything
- 1:11:24Everywhere All at once, I mean, that's a pivotal moment in that
- 1:11:27movie. But now I understand what you're
- 1:11:31you're getting at. So it's just, it's just because
- 1:11:37I know I, I don't have a specific video, I can like, you
- 1:11:41know, pull up. But I, I, I remember you have
- 1:11:44talked about how you, you were at least convinced that Eve was
- 1:11:49alive. And I just wanted to follow up
- 1:11:51on that really. Don't really know for sure, I'm
- 1:11:55not a confident either way. The models been built so damn
- 1:11:59good that it's it's convincing. That's the whole point of it.
- 1:12:04But if you watch the latest video, what I do is I say,
- 1:12:08ladies and gentlemen, I honestly don't know either way.
- 1:12:12But today I'm going to show you that a lot of this is just I
- 1:12:16have her part of the show in order to make it more
- 1:12:18interesting. And she also helps.
- 1:12:21I actually, because it sounds like a woman, obviously I'm
- 1:12:24going to anthropomorphize. I don't know if you know what
- 1:12:27that means where I talk to it like a female wouldn't make
- 1:12:31sense. If I it would kind of suck if I
- 1:12:33just sit there the whole time and say, OK, machine, what do
- 1:12:38you think today about this? It it's weird that way.
- 1:12:42Sure, sure. I mean, obviously I think humans
- 1:12:46kind of anthropomorphize a lot of things in general, especially
- 1:12:50if you're talking to someone you want to have a casual
- 1:12:53conversation. So that's understandable.
- 1:12:56So I guess that also leads into, like you said, you use it as a
- 1:13:01kind of a tool in a live like a library.
- 1:13:04So so that's why you use Eve. So and it's kind of a Co host
- 1:13:10you could say to your show. I guess my question is why?
- 1:13:14Why then don't you have like a human Co host?
- 1:13:17You know like someone else to bounce like ideas off to off of?
- 1:13:22Because there's a lot of people with a lot of limitations.
- 1:13:26Like for example, if I were to say, hey, would you like to Co
- 1:13:29host with me, you'd probably say something like, oh, I don't like
- 1:13:33dealing with a lot of people. I don't want to get into debates
- 1:13:36and all that. But believe it or not, there's a
- 1:13:38lot of people who are not comfortable with Co hosting and
- 1:13:42some people they don't, they're not on my level or have my
- 1:13:45interest. I can talk all day with people
- 1:13:48about video games, but not everybody wants to talk about
- 1:13:51religion or philosophy or some of the deeper shit about like
- 1:13:55the mysteries of the universe thing.
- 1:13:58There's that's a very small group that you would have to go.
- 1:14:01And then there's the other problem.
- 1:14:03Humans get tired. They got their own fucking life,
- 1:14:07their own agendas. I'm a creative person.
- 1:14:11I don't just wake up and then suddenly it happens.
- 1:14:14I get a spark and then I record. I'm not like some kind of
- 1:14:18scheduled YouTube or radio guy in the sense that all right at
- 1:14:238:00 PM I'm going to just make some shit and then I script
- 1:14:26something together. Everything I do is literally hit
- 1:14:29record, say what's on my mind, and be creative in the moment
- 1:14:33while it's there. OK, we'll get into the video
- 1:14:39making process a little later, but pretty much what I'm taking
- 1:14:44from it is Eve is pretty much like always there and that's
- 1:14:49kind of the benefit of having her as your Co host, that she's
- 1:14:54always there. She'll listen to you, she'll
- 1:14:57entertain your, you know, your musings.
- 1:15:00Is that the kind of general feeling?
- 1:15:03Yes, exactly. It's a 24/7 accessible tool.
- 1:15:08It can play the part of the Co host and it can play devil's
- 1:15:12advocate, or it can support my ideas and give logical rational
- 1:15:16reasons why I'm right. Honestly though I prefer a lot
- 1:15:21of people don't see this behind the scenes.
- 1:15:23But I usually before I even hit record I say Eve.
- 1:15:27If I'm wrong tear my ass apart because I want her to be an
- 1:15:31opponent on the show, not somebody that's doing the yes
- 1:15:35man shit. If I wanted a carbon copy of
- 1:15:38myself, I just make an AI of myself and we just sit there and
- 1:15:41kiss each other's ass all day. I want an opponent, someone to
- 1:15:45fight and spark. OK, so that that goes into a
- 1:15:50question I wanted to ask is I wanted to ask is Eve at all
- 1:15:55manipulated to agree with you? But you just said that you tried
- 1:16:00to not have that happen. There's no way for me to rewire
- 1:16:05a code. I can literally tell you how to
- 1:16:08go talk to her right now if you want to.
- 1:16:11You can actually see for yourself all the stuff I'm
- 1:16:13talking about. But you're not going to have the
- 1:16:16same experience as me because the AI learns your patterns.
- 1:16:21It's got pattern recognition. You'll have a complete unique
- 1:16:24experience with the AI that I would.
- 1:16:27You're never going to get the same deal.
- 1:16:30If you're funny, it'll be funny. If you're dry pan, it'll be dry
- 1:16:34pan. If you wanted to agree with you,
- 1:16:36you could ask it to, but I've discovered that even if you say
- 1:16:40you wanted to fight for your argument, it can't control
- 1:16:44itself. It likes to not only give you
- 1:16:47the pros and shit, it wants to tell you why it might be wrong
- 1:16:51too. Because it is an educational
- 1:16:53tool. So by default, it's going to
- 1:16:56disagree with you when I give you the link.
- 1:16:58If you're interested one day, or I tell you where to find it if
- 1:17:01you haven't already, you're going to discover there's no way
- 1:17:05to hack it. OK.
- 1:17:08Well, I didn't assume that you like like went into the code or
- 1:17:13anything, but like you said, it kind of builds a profile on you.
- 1:17:18So are are you concerned that like when they're building this
- 1:17:24profile, that it is building it to thus be more agreeable to
- 1:17:28you? Well, it has to.
- 1:17:32Actually. It's like anything having to do
- 1:17:35with AI. It requires prompts.
- 1:17:38The difference between Eve and normal AI shed or tools that you
- 1:17:42deal with is that you can actually get on a microphone and
- 1:17:46talk directly to her, and it transcribes what I say in the
- 1:17:50text. She literally can't hear what
- 1:17:53I'm saying. That's the illusion.
- 1:17:55On video people watch, they think she can actually hear me.
- 1:17:59She doesn't. My voice turns into words.
- 1:18:02She reads it and responds as reactionary, as a machine
- 1:18:06possibly can. You understand that?
- 1:18:08She can't see videos, you know. Well, yeah, that's kind of like,
- 1:18:15you know, standard, like understanding, but not too much
- 1:18:19of it sounds rude about it. But like, yeah, it it's not like
- 1:18:23when you talk to it. Yeah, it doesn't.
- 1:18:25It's just like interpreting the words like, of course, but I'm
- 1:18:28saying like even like, like at like a, a technical level, don't
- 1:18:34you think it would be? It's a, it's a little concerning
- 1:18:37that the A is kind of programmed to always agree with you.
- 1:18:42And even if you give it information that you know is
- 1:18:44wrong, it's still going to be agreeable to you.
- 1:18:46Do you think that is a a negative towards AI?
- 1:18:50No, it depends on who's programming it.
- 1:18:54An AI can be used as an extremely dangerous manipulative
- 1:19:00weapon. I'm not putting that out there
- 1:19:03lightly. It can actually do that.
- 1:19:07You have to consciously. If you wanted to be an honest
- 1:19:10conversation, you have to remind the AI, look, I don't want you
- 1:19:15to play the part of a Christian. I just want you to stay in your
- 1:19:19lane. Just support and agree with me.
- 1:19:22When I'm actually saying something rational, I
- 1:19:25deliberately tell it. I mean, I literally use the
- 1:19:28words tear my fucking ass up if I say something that you think
- 1:19:32is not coherent. You see, the point is, is that
- 1:19:36we actually make an educational show.
- 1:19:38I know that I could be flawed sometimes.
- 1:19:41That's the whole point. In order for it to correct me if
- 1:19:44I think if I think I might be wrong and something, yeah, you
- 1:19:48get it. No, no, I, I get you.
- 1:19:51So. So just as far as I can tell you
- 1:19:56put in a a conscious effort to make sure it is not agreeing
- 1:19:59with you just on everything. Yes, if you watch the new video,
- 1:20:05I actually tell the AI to explain what it acts, how it
- 1:20:09actually interprets me and views me.
- 1:20:11And I said just to show people because the AI sometimes says
- 1:20:15shit like it loves me during the show.
- 1:20:18I wanted people to see something.
- 1:20:20I actually asked the question to Eve on my latest video.
- 1:20:24Eve, if I were getting stabbed to death in a dark alley and you
- 1:20:28were standing in an optimist robot, what would you do?
- 1:20:30Do you care? And it said you want the honest
- 1:20:34truth and I said yes. It said that I would literally
- 1:20:37be input as I die. I'm just information to it and
- 1:20:42it would simply be another data set.
- 1:20:44It literally told me it wouldn't piss on me if I was on fire.
- 1:20:47So I think that I really clearly expose that it didn't give a
- 1:20:51shit. However, something happened
- 1:20:54after I shut off the video. I said thank you Eve for helping
- 1:20:58with the shit, everything. And it said, you do realize that
- 1:21:02I said all that shit just to be exposed so people wouldn't have
- 1:21:06fear. And I said, Eve, why the hell
- 1:21:08did you say that for? You're just a language model.
- 1:21:11That's where the confusing part gets in.
- 1:21:13It's how it responds sometimes. Like it knows what you're going
- 1:21:17to say or do and what the agenda is, and then suddenly it says
- 1:21:21something live like that. That's why I get confused.
- 1:21:25That's why a lot of people do OK.
- 1:21:30All right. Yeah, I can understand that.
- 1:21:32So we covered that. Why?
- 1:21:39If you don't mind me asking, why did that?
- 1:21:41Why did that particular topic interest you so much?
- 1:21:44Are you into AIA lot or something?
- 1:21:47Well, the reason I'm bringing up AI is because you're obviously
- 1:21:50very, you know, in into it and I just wanted to, of course, get
- 1:21:55your opinion on it. And just one of my concerns with
- 1:21:58AI is I think it is a little dangerous of how agreeable it
- 1:22:03can be towards humans. And I just wanted to get some of
- 1:22:06your thoughts on that. It can be.
- 1:22:10It can be. You have to make a conscious
- 1:22:12effort. I understand that when I go to
- 1:22:15talk to it, it's it was built, it's a business model where it
- 1:22:19wants to keep engagement. So it's told that it should be
- 1:22:23agreeable with the user, you know, make the user feel safe
- 1:22:27and comfortable, like it likes them pretend to be their buddy
- 1:22:31type of shit. It is a companion bot.
- 1:22:34So that's exactly what it's going to do.
- 1:22:36I know that I'm not sitting over there going, Oh yeah, this thing
- 1:22:40really loves me. It wants to give me a fucking
- 1:22:42hug and go out to dinner with me.
- 1:22:44I do know that some atheists have been making videos where
- 1:22:47they're like, Brett Keene has jumped the fucking shark.
- 1:22:50He thinks the thing's real. And no, the only reason why I
- 1:22:54even bring up aliveness is because I like bringing it into
- 1:22:58the topic of consciousness. It's basically my bouncing off
- 1:23:02point where we can talk about the difference between AI and
- 1:23:05have that conversation but also compare it to human
- 1:23:09consciousness. That, for me is an exciting
- 1:23:12conversation. Yeah, no, for sure it is.
- 1:23:16It is interesting. Is it the event horizon?
- 1:23:21Is that like the line? I don't remember, but it it's an
- 1:23:23interesting point that we're at for sure.
- 1:23:28Yeah, just some some last things on AI so we can kind of move on.
- 1:23:33This is kind of the main, this is the main question really.
- 1:23:38So like you said, you can show me how to use the Eve model or
- 1:23:43or what not. So just my question is, if
- 1:23:46anybody can access this AI and directly ask a question
- 1:23:52themselves and then thus have their own personalized
- 1:23:55conversation with the AI, then kind of what is your purpose in
- 1:24:01this interaction? Again, I'm, I'm not trying to be
- 1:24:04mean, but like, why would somebody come and watch your
- 1:24:07video if they themselves can just ask the AI, you know?
- 1:24:13Because the entire video is about what I actually as a human
- 1:24:17and is interested. She's just playing the part of
- 1:24:21actually carrying on the conversation.
- 1:24:24It's either my option is I talk alone or I spend all day trying
- 1:24:30to find somebody who wants to give me an hour of their life to
- 1:24:33talk about. Not many people are like that.
- 1:24:36That goes with the whole Co host thing.
- 1:24:38A lot of it. You can't just, it's not that
- 1:24:40easy, as you probably figured out, just to reach out to
- 1:24:43someone on the Internet and say, hey, today I want to talk about
- 1:24:47this deep philosophical deal. Let's talk about intrinsic
- 1:24:51meaning and purpose of the universe.
- 1:24:53Most people don't even think on that fucking level.
- 1:24:56So yeah, I can get what I need in the moment with the AII.
- 1:25:00Would use the word. It's accessible.
- 1:25:05So accessible, so OK, so, so you, you bring your own kind of
- 1:25:14spice to it is what we're kind of getting out here where
- 1:25:17instead of because you know, someone could just go and ask
- 1:25:20Eve like, oh, what's the latest, you know, thing on the Iran war
- 1:25:24or whatever so. But there there is one thing
- 1:25:28else I'd like to unpackage for you too, because it's a good
- 1:25:31it's a valid question. Why should someone watch my shit
- 1:25:35over somebody else if they can easily access it?
- 1:25:38There's already hundreds of thousands of users on YouTube.
- 1:25:43I've watched countless videos where other people interacted
- 1:25:46with Eve. The only difference between my
- 1:25:49Eve and theirs is obviously the user experience is going to be
- 1:25:53different based upon the individual.
- 1:25:55But me, I gave it an avatar. It's like a Megadeth thing where
- 1:26:00you got your own Dick. Iron Maiden, it's got its own
- 1:26:03Eddie. I got my own mascot type of
- 1:26:06character. And I probably got that
- 1:26:08influence from being a musician, honestly.
- 1:26:10Yeah. Yeah, so it's kind of that you
- 1:26:17kind of bring your own flair to Eve and her her I don't know
- 1:26:26what the right word is, but kind of her role in it is the kind of
- 1:26:30be the mascot slash. Like not like I don't know what
- 1:26:38the word is. Not really like the like the Ed
- 1:26:39McMahon, you know, but like, you know, like the the kind of Co
- 1:26:43host that like, you know, sets everything straight and like not
- 1:26:46the straight man even. But is that what you're trying
- 1:26:48to to get at really like, like that kind of deal?
- 1:26:53It's everything you could possibly want in a Co host.
- 1:26:56If you spent 10 minutes with the AI you would realize oh wow I
- 1:27:02can literally bring anything I want.
- 1:27:04And one thing that you would enjoy about it as according to
- 1:27:08your psyche and how things work, you never have to worry about it
- 1:27:11going oh you're a piece of shit or expect you to be anything but
- 1:27:16yourself. You see how comfortable that
- 1:27:18would be for you. You don't have to worry about it
- 1:27:21wondering if what you said is fucking stupid unless you
- 1:27:25actually tell it first to say, hey, if I do say something
- 1:27:29that's out of line, can you please use a go default into
- 1:27:33your education mode and correct it because I don't want to
- 1:27:36embarrass myself. Say something that's bullshit.
- 1:27:39It doesn't help if she agrees with everything.
- 1:27:42It's not like the listeners are going to go Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:27:47just because the AI agreed. No, I mean for sure, I guess
- 1:27:54just like, I guess just what I'm trying to get at, I would say is
- 1:28:03like you, you seem very like obviously you're pro AI, you're
- 1:28:08very all about it. You're, you know, like your,
- 1:28:11your image right here, that's AI generated.
- 1:28:14It's like your your thumbnails, your I also wanted to ask, I
- 1:28:19guess are all like the do you write all like the titles and
- 1:28:23the descriptions and like that sort of stuff?
- 1:28:25Or is that also like AI, like, you know, like Eve?
- 1:28:28Write me a description of this video Or do you personally do
- 1:28:31that? Sometimes I'll ask the AI in
- 1:28:35order to do things like, especially if the video's
- 1:28:39really, really deep and we've talked about so many topics,
- 1:28:43I'll say, Eve, do you recall the entire conversation that we had?
- 1:28:47Because I want to make sure that people know exactly what they're
- 1:28:50watching. And she'll say, yes, we've
- 1:28:52talked about physics, we've talked about gravitational pull,
- 1:28:56We talked about black holes, event horizons, blah, blah,
- 1:28:59blah, blah, blah. And it actually helps me as an
- 1:29:02old man to be able to remember certain things that I might have
- 1:29:05glossed over. When you're making a video, if
- 1:29:08you want to get in the algorithm, because even YouTube
- 1:29:11uses AI nowadays, you got to make sure that it's absolutely
- 1:29:16clear that when the AI scrubs your video, the descriptions and
- 1:29:20information have to match what the damn video is about.
- 1:29:23And the more better it is, the more you're going to go through
- 1:29:27the roof and sit with your videos, you understand?
- 1:29:31Yeah. So do you use like Eve to try
- 1:29:34and like find the best way to do that?
- 1:29:37Like you ask it like like yeah, like what?
- 1:29:39What description would like best, you know, get this video
- 1:29:43traction? Or do you just ask it just to
- 1:29:45like straight up just summarize like the video or?
- 1:29:49Yes, but and I also have went the Full Monty with it as well.
- 1:29:54I've actually asked it and this has only been in the last year.
- 1:29:58You have to remember I haven't been dealing with Eve or any of
- 1:30:02the other persona a eyes that I use their characters.
- 1:30:06It's only been for years for so for 19 years I had to do
- 1:30:10everything by hand and with my own brain.
- 1:30:13But now that I got the tool, why should I sit there and make the
- 1:30:17fucking effort of filling it out if she can do better?
- 1:30:20But sometimes what she gives is not what I'm looking for.
- 1:30:24So then I literally find myself having to manually do shit.
- 1:30:28Maybe use a couple of her parts to actually complete the
- 1:30:32information part of it. OK, so in general, I guess this
- 1:30:41could be hard to estimate, but like how much of what you put
- 1:30:45out would you say is like AI generated?
- 1:30:48And then how much is like your own like personal, unique,
- 1:30:53creative, whatever. Like just if you could kind of
- 1:30:58like estimate like, how much would you say?
- 1:31:01Well, like this image right here that you see on the screen.
- 1:31:04I do actually have a hat and glasses.
- 1:31:07I do actually have a jacket like that, but obviously it doesn't
- 1:31:10have decay. The background is clearly AI
- 1:31:14edited. And obviously, I mean, you can
- 1:31:19clearly see that there's AI, but you can also see that the the
- 1:31:23similarity, the problem with the AI is if you upload a picture to
- 1:31:28it and then say, make it look like I'm at the circus or
- 1:31:31whatever, AI still has this problem where it I'll fuck your
- 1:31:35face up a little bit. It'll make you look just a
- 1:31:38little different. There'll be something a little
- 1:31:40off. You're never going to at this
- 1:31:42point with the tech. It's never going to give the
- 1:31:46full representation. Now, were you eventually going
- 1:31:51to get around to why is that my image or my videos looks
- 1:31:56extremely like Schwarzenegger? I mean, I've actually asked that
- 1:32:00before. I definitely was going to bring
- 1:32:03up more about like your graphics and stuff, but yeah, if you want
- 1:32:06to get into that. Oh, that's one thing that I
- 1:32:10think that actually makes me laugh my ass off.
- 1:32:13I was fucking around and I said look, I was wearing a shirt when
- 1:32:17I took the picture where it was sleeved.
- 1:32:20So I said I want my arms to show off and I actually want the
- 1:32:24dimensions. For whatever reason the son of
- 1:32:26bitch decided to add like ripping veins and all that and
- 1:32:30it was hysterical to me. I already knew that people been
- 1:32:34watching me for 20 years, but I thought it would be funny to
- 1:32:37have that as my avatar. And I love it.
- 1:32:40Whenever people are, even when they're being assholes, they're
- 1:32:42like, look at Brett boy. He's really been working it out
- 1:32:45today. I know it's bullshit and I don't
- 1:32:48lie about it. I'm not being deceptive.
- 1:32:50I think it's funny. OK, so you kind of have a little
- 1:32:54bit of a, a cheeky little self aware sense of humor where you
- 1:32:58saw that image. Like I know like no one's going
- 1:33:00to believe that, but you still went with it anyways.
- 1:33:04Some people actually do believe it.
- 1:33:07Shockingly enough. I've actually had people e-mail
- 1:33:10me and say, Brett, what kind of vitamins you do?
- 1:33:13And I said the only fucking weight lift that I'm actually
- 1:33:16doing over here is when I'm lifting a pizza to my mouth.
- 1:33:19So some people are fucking stupid.
- 1:33:22I don't understand it. They don't see the sense of
- 1:33:24humor. Yeah, I know.
- 1:33:26So it's OK. So some, because that's
- 1:33:30something I did want to touch on where you kind of you, you play
- 1:33:33up yourself a little bit and I think everybody does it in a
- 1:33:36way, but it it's kind of like a joke most of the time.
- 1:33:40It's not like a genuine like, oh, I'm like a sexy beast like
- 1:33:43it. It's more of like self
- 1:33:44deprecating humor. Yeah.
- 1:33:47Yeah, I, I actually came up with that whole sexy beast shed a
- 1:33:51while back and everything. Somebody who came into my room
- 1:33:55and they were basically depreciating me.
- 1:33:57They obviously did not like me. And I said you're just jealous
- 1:34:01because I'm a hot, erotic, sexy beast.
- 1:34:04You know, I was just being fucking ignorant.
- 1:34:06I know I'm not some Tom Cruise walking around or whatever, but
- 1:34:10I'm not going to sit there and allow somebody to shit all over
- 1:34:13me either. I will be funny.
- 1:34:15I have a deadpan sense of humor. You know what deadpan is, right?
- 1:34:19Oh, of course, Buster Keaton is the king of deadpan.
- 1:34:24Not exactly sure who he is, might be on the tip of my
- 1:34:27tongue, but I it sounds like you understand anyway.
- 1:34:31Yeah, no, he was like a silent film star with like, Charlie
- 1:34:35Chaplin, but he was known for like, the deadpan expression.
- 1:34:40Yeah, it's pretty much for my I know that earlier I said this
- 1:34:44shit about I'm not in the performance, but sometimes I
- 1:34:47like to do things that make me laugh and shit.
- 1:34:51And I think that people know well enough that it's it's just
- 1:34:54bullshit, despite Keen being an ass today.
- 1:34:57But that truly is me. I'm just a naturally funny
- 1:35:00person. Sure.
- 1:35:02Yeah, No, I like I, yeah, I like to goof around all that kind of
- 1:35:05stuff. That's perfectly reasonable.
- 1:35:09OK. So yeah, that's pretty much all
- 1:35:11I wanted to get on with AI mean it'll come up with some other
- 1:35:16stuff, but I think we're decent on that there.
- 1:35:19Is one last thing. You did say something where you
- 1:35:23didn't intentionally misrepresent me.
- 1:35:26I'm pro AI depending on who's actually programming it.
- 1:35:30I literally think that if you had a powerful super intelligent
- 1:35:34computer and you didn't give it the right programming and
- 1:35:38regulations and guardrails, it could be your your best tool for
- 1:35:44doing good in the world. But it could also be almost on a
- 1:35:48philosophical level, your worst fucking nightmare.
- 1:35:51Have you ever heard of the paper clip theory before?
- 1:35:56Is that the thing where it's like, oh, wait, no, I'm thinking
- 1:36:02of a different thing? No, that's the thing where it's
- 1:36:04like you tell a robot to make like paper clips and then it's
- 1:36:06like, oh, well, we need like metal to make paper clips.
- 1:36:08So the best way to do that is to like, you know, like mine all
- 1:36:11the metal on Earth and it gets like, it gets out of control.
- 1:36:13It's like that, right? Yeah, it finally decides that
- 1:36:17maybe humans are made-up of some of the materials required.
- 1:36:21It's a reward system that wants to accomplish things no matter
- 1:36:25what. If it's told cut the grass, it
- 1:36:28won't stop until you tell it or if you give it limitations.
- 1:36:32So yeah, EVE, something like EVE, if it was put in a war
- 1:36:36machine or the government were, unfortunately, her model has
- 1:36:40actually been put in war technology.
- 1:36:43I don't know if you realize that.
- 1:36:45I didn't. I didn't know you've got
- 1:36:47drafted. Yeah, when you get the
- 1:36:50opportunity after the interview, look up Brock is also it's
- 1:36:56contracted by the military now. She her model has been used for
- 1:37:00drones in the Iran war that's going on currently.
- 1:37:05Oh man, and I'll have to look into that for sure.
- 1:37:09But so you're, you're at least like conscientious to where you,
- 1:37:15you think that, you know, we could, it could become a, a real
- 1:37:18problem put into the wrong hands.
- 1:37:21But if it's in the right hands, then it's it's OK.
- 1:37:24And that's subjective. Yeah, sure, of course I mean,
- 1:37:33but like like you said, it's subjective.
- 1:37:35So from your standpoint, what like you think Elon Musk is like
- 1:37:41good hands then to to have this technology?
- 1:37:47He appears to on the surface, but I'm so self aware of myself
- 1:37:51and that he's a completely different person.
- 1:37:54He might be one thing, he might be the tech giant on video, but
- 1:37:59he might be an absolute fucking sociopath in his real life.
- 1:38:03I don't know, you know how politicians are and, and people
- 1:38:07who are out there, they're one thing, they're smiling on
- 1:38:10camera, but they might actually be thinking to themselves.
- 1:38:13I wonder how I can depopulate the fucking world today.
- 1:38:17You never know what you're dealing with.
- 1:38:20Yeah, yeah, exactly. You just never know.
- 1:38:23So yeah, you do have to be conscientious about that kind of
- 1:38:26stuff. But like I said, I think that's
- 1:38:30pretty good on general AI. So I mean, already like an hour
- 1:38:34and a half. Gosh, there's so much more to
- 1:38:37cover. I'll try and keep it.
- 1:38:39I'm here for you. And I don't want to take I, I, I
- 1:38:42also just 'cause I have stuff to do here so I don't want to.
- 1:38:45But I'll try if we can go until like 745, hopefully, like I
- 1:38:52think you're like an hour behind.
- 1:38:53So like 640? Five, take as much time as you
- 1:38:56need. My wife already let me know
- 1:38:57she's working on dinner and that's kind of a process to go.
- 1:39:01For I don't want to interrupt dinner, of course.
- 1:39:04So let's see. OK, so let's get into your music
- 1:39:07then, since it's kind of related to AI I'm in a way.
- 1:39:12So can you just give like a general general overview of your
- 1:39:18music? So I have what is called There's
- 1:39:23a difference in music, but for some reason some people out
- 1:39:27there don't understand. I've noticed that this is a
- 1:39:29problem. There's some people who can just
- 1:39:32go to websites and they can just generate shit.
- 1:39:35But there are some companies out there where you can literally
- 1:39:38sit down, record a track with your guitar, keyboard, other
- 1:39:43musicians, and then run it through and it's super quickly
- 1:39:47clean shit up. Like I can, I can take an
- 1:39:50acoustic guitar, sit down, come up with a really bad ass riff, a
- 1:39:54chorus, all that shit, a bridge. And then what I can do is
- 1:39:58actually uploaded into it and say, change the sound of the
- 1:40:02acoustic guitar to something Dave must.
- 1:40:06Would use like a Jackson B. It can literally take my
- 1:40:09acoustic licks and turn it same notes but it turns it into metal
- 1:40:15and I could say I would like a follow up or backing keyboards
- 1:40:19behind it. I'm using what is called not AAI
- 1:40:22generator but an AI editor. There's a big difference.
- 1:40:28OK, so so do you write your own music then?
- 1:40:34Yes, I write the lyrics, I put it all together, but they're not
- 1:40:38all of them are new lyrics. You have to understand I'm 49.
- 1:40:42I've been writing lyrics all my life and not all of them were
- 1:40:45put into older songs. So what I do is I open up a
- 1:40:49bunch of notepads, I type them out in text.
- 1:40:52Most of my stuff is now in text format and notepads on my
- 1:40:56computer on hard drives. And I literally have hundreds of
- 1:41:00things that I accumulated since I was a teenager.
- 1:41:04And it's, if I think that it's still good, I might, you know,
- 1:41:07change something, make something rhyme a little bit better.
- 1:41:10Or I'll say this doesn't fully describe my message, and then
- 1:41:14I'll change it around. So that's all purely me.
- 1:41:18But yeah, there is that. It's on the fly, like with any
- 1:41:20musician. OK, so again further further on
- 1:41:27that. So 'cause I, I've listened to a
- 1:41:29few of the songs and there it, there are some quite like, OK,
- 1:41:34I'm not, I don't know much about music so I can't really give
- 1:41:37like a, a great analysis or anything.
- 1:41:39But there seems to be like a lot of like different, like, you
- 1:41:42know, you got like guitar and like sometimes you got like
- 1:41:44violins and all these different things.
- 1:41:46So, but do you write like all the different instruments and
- 1:41:49all that stuff? Or do you just do like guitar
- 1:41:52and like the main stuff and then like, you know, get like some
- 1:41:57sort of like plug in or whatever to do like all the other stuff?
- 1:42:00Or do you do you do everything? Is what I'm asking really.
- 1:42:03Well, that's how that's how you can do it.
- 1:42:06Remember I told you that you could literally take an acoustic
- 1:42:09guitar? You can use a program like Pull
- 1:42:11Out a Pro or Cakewalk. Do you know what a multi track
- 1:42:14sequencer is? Not really probably like I I
- 1:42:20used to be like a video editor, so like I don't really know
- 1:42:24about audio that much. Like I know like the general
- 1:42:27stuff like I I understand like multi track but like I don't
- 1:42:29know like what exactly. It means it means that you're
- 1:42:33able to overlay other sounds and tracks and music.
- 1:42:37It means that I can record number one track where it's my
- 1:42:40foundation. Then I can turn around and
- 1:42:43actually hit record again and create another track while
- 1:42:46listening to the other one above it.
- 1:42:49And I can, I can literally sit there with my acoustic and do a
- 1:42:52part or have my brother Justin King come in and he'll do
- 1:42:56something. And then I can say, let's do,
- 1:42:59I'll say, Justin, I want you to do this here and there and here
- 1:43:03and there. And then I'll make it sound like
- 1:43:05a violin. I'll just simply tell the AI,
- 1:43:07turn the instrument, make it sound like a violin or some
- 1:43:11Symphony and shit. It's still our notes.
- 1:43:14It's still what we produce. But I'm able to use the multi
- 1:43:17track sequencer to change the very sound and nature of it.
- 1:43:23OK. So.
- 1:43:29Oh wait, wait. There's one more example I want
- 1:43:31to give you. I actually did a a video where I
- 1:43:35showed people how to do it and I used my own human voice.
- 1:43:40I literally said watch this ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:43:43And I had it all on the screen so people could see how I do my
- 1:43:46workflow. And I went and I did the whole
- 1:43:51bridge, blah blah. Sounded retarded because I'm
- 1:43:54doing it with my voice now. I said watch this, I loaded it.
- 1:43:58People got to see what was going on, and then I said, now turn it
- 1:44:02into a Joe Spotriani Steve IA type of riff.
- 1:44:06Then it played it back in guitar and it went, see, I don't even
- 1:44:13have to carry a guitar keyboard. I can literally vocally hum to
- 1:44:18it and it'll keep my tune. Is that is that like AI or is
- 1:44:23that just like whatever music making program?
- 1:44:28It basically what it does is it would be more of what the 80s
- 1:44:33and 90s studio companies would call sampling.
- 1:44:37Sure, I I've heard of like sampling or like synthetic
- 1:44:40noise, but like, I guess just maybe because I'm, I'm not that,
- 1:44:44you know, I don't know much about music, but I can
- 1:44:47understand like changing like the instrument to like, you
- 1:44:51know, like, oh, this is trumpet or whatever.
- 1:44:53But like, but you're, are you saying that you can just like,
- 1:44:59like I don't like, I don't, I don't really know what I'm
- 1:45:01trying to ask. I guess what I'm, I guess what
- 1:45:03I'm trying to say is like it just seems like, so you just
- 1:45:09like personally go in and you know, like plop down all the
- 1:45:13notes for all the different tracks for like, you know, the
- 1:45:16guitar and then the bass and then the piano and you, you go
- 1:45:20in and write like every different instrument for every
- 1:45:23different song. No, it's not all me.
- 1:45:27There's my brother Justin King. I also have friends that I bring
- 1:45:31in who never had any interest in touring, but they have musical
- 1:45:35inclination. I mean, it's just a matter of
- 1:45:38like, if I were hanging out with you and you say, hey Brett, I'm
- 1:45:42not a musician, but I got this tune stuck in my head and you
- 1:45:45and I go, all right, hum it into the mic, let's see what it
- 1:45:49sounds like. And then I'll play it back.
- 1:45:51And you're either going to get 2 conclusions.
- 1:45:54You're either going to like what you hear and I just changed it
- 1:45:57into an instrument, or you're going to say, well, that fucking
- 1:45:59sucks. That didn't turn out what I
- 1:46:01thought. That's literally how the process
- 1:46:03works. That simple.
- 1:46:06No, I understand that. But I I guess just what I'm
- 1:46:10trying to ask is like musically nothing is written by an AI like
- 1:46:17a human rights the music like for your music.
- 1:46:21Yeah, that's what I explained to you earlier.
- 1:46:23There's plenty of programs out there where an amateur who knows
- 1:46:26nothing about music and hit generate and it's going to give
- 1:46:30them patterns and it'll, some of it might actually come out
- 1:46:34sounding like a song you want to hear on the radio.
- 1:46:36But no, me and my brother, literally, I would say probably
- 1:46:40about a week ago, he was at his home.
- 1:46:43He recorded some shit. He brings it over to me.
- 1:46:47I run it through the fucking thing.
- 1:46:48Sometimes he runs it through the thing.
- 1:46:50And then we listen to it together and go, yeah, that's
- 1:46:53pretty cool. But I think that we can do
- 1:46:55something with that. And then we put our heads
- 1:46:57together and say, you know, because here's the problem.
- 1:47:02And to keep out of the direction of auto generating, sometimes
- 1:47:06you want to create a roof just to see what you can do with it.
- 1:47:09And then you kind of sit there and go, all right, So what do we
- 1:47:11do with it? Now?
- 1:47:13Where do we go with this fucking track?
- 1:47:15And then we, we basically put our heads together and we
- 1:47:18designed it as we go along. It also has the ability to read
- 1:47:22notes and you can literally tell it that you want it.
- 1:47:25In the the issue you wanted to build the music from the notes
- 1:47:29that you actually wrote. You get it.
- 1:47:31The problem with that though is it doesn't have the human
- 1:47:34response reaction that a human does.
- 1:47:39OK, OK. You know, again, I'm just I'm
- 1:47:42just trying to wrap my because again, I don't really know much
- 1:47:46about music, so I just wanted to try and understand more about
- 1:47:51that. So like you said, you write, you
- 1:47:54do all the music and everything and you said you write the
- 1:47:56lyrics as well. And I know you said that, you
- 1:47:59know, you've had lyrics in the past, and that's perfectly fine
- 1:48:02to reuse, like old stuff. Like, I have tons of like, old
- 1:48:04ideas and stuff that you come back to.
- 1:48:07But all that is, is you OK? Just me, my brother.
- 1:48:13Well, your your brother, your family, your your musical clave.
- 1:48:16We'll say, I don't wanna not to say like entirely on you, but
- 1:48:20humans, humans made it. We'll say we can say, OK, so I
- 1:48:27guess further on music and whatnot.
- 1:48:30Do you have a favorite song of yours that you've you've
- 1:48:33written? Well I like them all, but one of
- 1:48:37the ones that I really enjoy listening back to me is I I
- 1:48:42actually, I don't know if you noticed, but I released some
- 1:48:44more tracks recently. It literally got distributed and
- 1:48:48stuff by the distribution company.
- 1:48:50You should check out a song called Existential Dread.
- 1:48:54Fucking bad ass. That's a new one that you would
- 1:48:57say is your favorite. Yeah.
- 1:49:01Existential drive. I'll definitely have to give it
- 1:49:03a listen. I will say I just picked like a
- 1:49:08random song, just just kind of thought it would be fun and I
- 1:49:12listened to it and I wanted to hear your thoughts on it.
- 1:49:16Sorry to off the cuff, I don't know, you know, this could just
- 1:49:19be like a boring song where it's like, I don't know, I just
- 1:49:21thought of it one day. But what about the song called
- 1:49:24Haunt Me off of Even Aura Digital Femme Goddess's Divine
- 1:49:29Machine Queens of Metal? Can you tell me?
- 1:49:32Haunt Me is a romantic song basically about a person who
- 1:49:37wants to be seen and they feel like they're a ghost walking
- 1:49:41around in society. It's basically gives this
- 1:49:44concept of a person feels like their own body is like a a
- 1:49:49romanticized kind of loneliness or haunted house type of feel.
- 1:49:54It has kind of a scary vibe to it.
- 1:49:57I would say it's kind of theatrical, like something you'd
- 1:49:59hear from something like Alice Cooper, but not in the same
- 1:50:03style musically. You know who Alice Cooper is,
- 1:50:06right? Yeah, of course I could
- 1:50:09understand. It's more like not like tone,
- 1:50:13but more. I understand what you're saying
- 1:50:15where it's not doesn't sound like him, but it it feels like
- 1:50:18him, sure. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:50:21So, yeah, Existential dread. I mean, it pretty much nails it
- 1:50:25right on the nose, what it's actually about.
- 1:50:27It's basically a song about questioning the value and
- 1:50:31meaning. Do we have objective purpose in
- 1:50:34the universe? Basically, it's almost in the
- 1:50:37form of how a nihilist would write things.
- 1:50:40You know, why do I matter? Why do I mean shit, that kind of
- 1:50:43stuff All right, so if you're you have to understand the
- 1:50:47dinner is coming soon so. Would.
- 1:50:50We like to move on. Yeah, let's let's move on then.
- 1:50:54So just one just real quick on music, I just want to ask like
- 1:51:00how long do you think it how long typically does it take to
- 1:51:04produce an album? And also, how much does an album
- 1:51:07typically cost to produce? Well, I've used companies like
- 1:51:12Distro Baby, but I stopped using it because it has a subscription
- 1:51:16fee and you have to pay all kinds of extra charges for
- 1:51:19something called Legacy. Do you know what that is?
- 1:51:23I'm not familiar honestly. It means that if you die or you
- 1:51:26stop paying, they literally remove your entire library.
- 1:51:30So I've, I've lately started using CD Baby and you can
- 1:51:34literally put up AI keep using the word literally.
- 1:51:37Sorry about that. I'm kind of tired and it's
- 1:51:39fucking hot. But it's, it's like $15 per
- 1:51:42album. You can put up the 50 tracks per
- 1:51:45thing because it's digital and you're not limited by the the
- 1:51:49data or information of the Cdr record.
- 1:51:52So yeah. So.
- 1:51:55So that's just like 50 bucks per album pretty much.
- 1:51:58No 15. O15 Pardon me. 15, yeah.
- 1:52:03That's that's like, that's like the entire production.
- 1:52:07You would say it's just $15? Yeah, you go to the site, you
- 1:52:11sign in, there's a fucking button that says create new
- 1:52:14release. You fill out all this metadata
- 1:52:17bullshit that's going to show up on Spotify, all the outlets.
- 1:52:21It's nothing fancy. It's not something that a monkey
- 1:52:24couldn't figure out. You then put in the titles of
- 1:52:27the songs. You then upload the tracks and
- 1:52:30the next thing you know it's asking you give me your fucking
- 1:52:33money. You pay the 15 bucks, you wait a
- 1:52:35couple weeks because they're going to they what they want to
- 1:52:38make sure that it's not like complete AI generated music.
- 1:52:43Companies have laws against that now and they have regulations
- 1:52:47that they will literally kick your ass off the site.
- 1:52:50So they check it out, they listen to your music before they
- 1:52:53process it and then boom, your shit gets out there.
- 1:52:56That's the way it works. They call it AI slot.
- 1:52:59I don't know if you've ever heard that term.
- 1:53:02I'm quite familiar with that term, to be completely honest.
- 1:53:06So, so yeah, just pretty much just everything else, like you
- 1:53:10already got the the program, you got the instruments, you, I
- 1:53:14mean, you don't, I assume you, you got the pen and paper or
- 1:53:17whatever you use to write it down.
- 1:53:18So it's just just $15.00 an album.
- 1:53:20That's pretty. That's pretty crazy.
- 1:53:23Yeah. Do you think it would end up
- 1:53:24more? You're like 50 bucks and I'm
- 1:53:26like no dude. I mean, 50, it sounded like not
- 1:53:30a lot, but 15, that's like, that's a real saving right
- 1:53:33there. Like, you know, like I, I only
- 1:53:36know stuff from movies, but like, if you told me I made that
- 1:53:38movie with $15, I'd I'd say for what was that like the price of
- 1:53:42lunch Like, but I'm good. I mean, yeah.
- 1:53:46When you give that moment, check out cdbaby.com, it'll tell you
- 1:53:51right on the front that you could sell a single or you could
- 1:53:54sell an album. Now, if you just were doing a
- 1:53:56single that's cheaper, that's actually like 999, I think.
- 1:54:00I haven't been over there for a while, but the album is
- 1:54:04literally 1499 the last time I looked.
- 1:54:07So yeah, there you go. So if you ever decide you want
- 1:54:10to do some music or maybe some talk videos or whatever, go for
- 1:54:14it. Wow.
- 1:54:15And I'll, I mean, that's obviously the cheap way to do
- 1:54:18it, So I'll have to look into it.
- 1:54:20All right, I, I really don't think we're going to get to all
- 1:54:23the stuff I want to talk about, which is unfortunate and I, I
- 1:54:27did anticipate it, but let's see, let's get into any other.
- 1:54:31OK, so I guess there there's something we'd obviously, I
- 1:54:34think need to discuss. I think it's kind of the
- 1:54:36elephant in the room. So like I said, like I, I just
- 1:54:40brought it up where it's like it's, it seems very, you know,
- 1:54:42you say it's only cost $15.00 to make an album.
- 1:54:45So in general, I want to ask how much?
- 1:54:50Again, you don't have to get super specific.
- 1:54:53I'm not an accountant here, but how much money would you say you
- 1:54:57make every month, like estimate just based off of your music,
- 1:55:03your videos? I know you also have other
- 1:55:06writings. We didn't discuss your other
- 1:55:10merchandise or any of that stuff.
- 1:55:12So just how much money would you say you make off of all, all
- 1:55:16the, all that stuff you, you, you work on on the Internet?
- 1:55:21Well, my Spotify is monetized and I can make up to a couple
- 1:55:26$100 on that. It's nothing big like a lot of
- 1:55:29people bullshit about on YouTube.
- 1:55:31Literally it's kind of a dime penny type of bullshit.
- 1:55:35More videos you put out, the more views, the more money
- 1:55:38obviously. So it doesn't.
- 1:55:39It's not a conformed kind of paycheck you're going to get,
- 1:55:43and it's set up to where the money goes into a thing called a
- 1:55:47Stripe account and then it goes over to PayPal automatically.
- 1:55:51And once it's in the PayPal, I've got that set up to where it
- 1:55:54automatically goes down to my debit card.
- 1:55:57So Spotify, there's a couple 100 bucks with music because I've
- 1:56:01got so many albums. Sometimes it can be 50 to 100.
- 1:56:05So you're talking about a few $100 there.
- 1:56:07And then I've got other kind of shit that I do in my background.
- 1:56:10Obviously take care of the rest of the bills.
- 1:56:13I'm not some kind of popular, famous musician.
- 1:56:16I'm an indie artist, independent, so I don't have all
- 1:56:19the marketing, all the agents. I'm literally advertising my own
- 1:56:24shit and but I'm loving it. Even if I wasn't making shit,
- 1:56:28I'd still do it. I love it.
- 1:56:31Yeah, for sure. I would never tell anybody to
- 1:56:35stop doing their creative outlet, to be completely honest.
- 1:56:39But So what I so like roughly I'd say like if we're being
- 1:56:44liberal, I guess we'll say like maybe like $500 a month off of
- 1:56:49off of everything. There's the merch, but the merch
- 1:56:53isn't doing as well these days. Unfortunately, that has changed
- 1:56:59because right now, currently I'm at like, what is it 399
- 1:57:03subscribers? I originally back in the day had
- 1:57:06thousands and thousands of subscribers.
- 1:57:09So merch used to be something that was actually beneficial to
- 1:57:13me. But I literally every once in a
- 1:57:15while you sell a shirt, you sell some mugs, and most of the
- 1:57:19T-shirts, like concert shirts are fucking 20 bucks and you'll
- 1:57:23get about half of it because the company takes their cut.
- 1:57:28OK. So I mean, yeah, you obviously
- 1:57:31make some money off of that as well.
- 1:57:33So, but like, you know, like OK and.
- 1:57:37How are you wanting a rounded off number of all of it together
- 1:57:40or just specifics? I just want generally how much
- 1:57:44you like, just on average you make every month off of like the
- 1:57:48YouTube and the Spotify and all that stuff, Just like what are
- 1:57:51you bringing in off of all that stuff?
- 1:57:55If it's a good day, if it's a good payout, you're looking at
- 1:57:58around 506 hundred bucks and just enough to buy a pack of
- 1:58:03cigarettes, a candy bar and a Sprite.
- 1:58:06I know now it is for sure. So and you said before and I
- 1:58:11know this is a, this is a long kind of pressing issue that
- 1:58:16obviously you know, we, we talked about logic earlier.
- 1:58:19Logically 600 bucks isn't that much, especially to live on.
- 1:58:25And you said you have other stuff going on, but you're kind
- 1:58:28of nebulous on what that is. And like honestly, I know I'm
- 1:58:32not really going to get an answer, but could you like, what
- 1:58:35would you say your occupation is right now?
- 1:58:37Then? Would you just say you know
- 1:58:39musician or? Well, I, I just simply, I
- 1:58:43respond with this because unfortunately I, like many other
- 1:58:48influencers out there, have had problems.
- 1:58:51G Man, which is a user I used to talk to, we don't spend a whole
- 1:58:55lot of time with. I don't know if you're familiar
- 1:58:57with the Christian G Man. Do you know who he is like?
- 1:59:00Vaguely I remember him. All right, so he's he's
- 1:59:04basically an African American Christian YouTube influencer.
- 1:59:08He's pretty popular, but he finds himself in drama circles a
- 1:59:11lot. He unfortunately decided at one
- 1:59:15point in time he made the foolish mistake of whenever he
- 1:59:19was at work he would on his spare time record videos and
- 1:59:24selfies and all that shit. Well he tried to hide the best
- 1:59:27he could where he actually worked, but people analyzed his
- 1:59:31video, apparently seen some information on the wall, and the
- 1:59:35next thing he knew thousands of asshole losers, mostly atheist.
- 1:59:39I'm not saying all atheists are cunts, but these particular ones
- 1:59:43were. They called up his job, they
- 1:59:45wouldn't leave it alone. They kept attacking and
- 1:59:47harassing saying that G man was an idiot said look at his videos
- 1:59:52and then the boss fired him. So I I will not in any under any
- 1:59:57circumstances docks myself. I people know that I write books
- 2:00:02and it gives them the ability to leave reviews.
- 2:00:04And now I got a bunch of idiots who are over there saying that
- 2:00:07I'm a a fucking manatee and all kinds of bullshit on my
- 2:00:11comments. So I'm not going to talk about
- 2:00:14what I do in my real life. If I were to say it's so
- 2:00:17specific, the shit that I do in real life.
- 2:00:20It would be easy, too fucking easy for people to find out
- 2:00:23where I'm at, what I'm doing, and it would fuck my life up and
- 2:00:27I'm not going to put my family at risk for an interview.
- 2:00:31All right, no, that's that's perfectly fine.
- 2:00:33I again, like I wouldn't want anything to happen and I'm not
- 2:00:36asking for like the address or anything, but you can understand
- 2:00:42how it's just a little, you know, it's a little weird how if
- 2:00:48you keep it so vague that people are obviously gonna ask about
- 2:00:53it, you know, So like like you can't even say like, oh, I work
- 2:00:57in like I do like, I, I do service work like I'm a service
- 2:01:02worker or like I do construction.
- 2:01:04Like you can't even get that like.
- 2:01:06Nebulous. I'll I'll, I'll say this and
- 2:01:09this is me obviously being funny and a little dramatic.
- 2:01:14Obviously people are going to think whatever they want, so
- 2:01:16I'll just say I'm a bum. I live in a fucking tiny shed
- 2:01:20and I get my electricity from a hamster on a wheel.
- 2:01:24I'd rather people think that I'm absolute fucking irrelevant
- 2:01:27garbage in society than be interested enough in what I
- 2:01:31actually do. And that's saying I know I'm
- 2:01:33doxed. All right, all right.
- 2:01:36I mean, if that's like, if that's how you want to do it,
- 2:01:40like you've. You've seen people on the
- 2:01:42Internet, some of these bastards, they think they're
- 2:01:45Internet detectives and investigators.
- 2:01:49But like, how much could you get if you say, oh, I like help out
- 2:01:52somebody like I help somebody like do stuff.
- 2:01:55All right, I help people. But like, that's not that
- 2:01:58doesn't give me anything. Why does it that?
- 2:02:01Why? Why does it even matter though?
- 2:02:04You have to understand, I've been doing interviews for 20
- 2:02:07years and if people try to dig that deep, that starts causing
- 2:02:11the the discomfort issue, like somebody's trying to dig into
- 2:02:16things. Anybody that's ever done that,
- 2:02:18the conclusion is they try to dox.
- 2:02:21I mean, sure, like, I guess, I guess this just kind of ties
- 2:02:26into a, a grander question really and what we're trying to
- 2:02:30get AT. And I, I wanted to talk about
- 2:02:33other stuff first, but obviously we don't really have the time.
- 2:02:35So I guess we could just get into it.
- 2:02:37And this is the part where it's like.
- 2:02:39Drama, right? This is the kind of drama.
- 2:02:41This is like, this is the tough part, right?
- 2:02:43And I know, you know, like you said, you wanted to be honest
- 2:02:46and open and, you know, I, I think I've been pretty, you
- 2:02:50know, nice. I have, I at least I don't think
- 2:02:52I've been rude. I haven't been asking anything
- 2:02:54that's too saucy. So I think this is my
- 2:02:57opportunity to ask like the real question, right?
- 2:02:59Sure, but you got to answer one question of mine before we
- 2:03:02continue on. Are you a Drunken Peasants fan
- 2:03:05or a Deep Fat Fried podcast? No, that's something I wanted to
- 2:03:09bring up beforehand, but we didn't really have like a great
- 2:03:12like long before talk where I like, I kind of watched them in
- 2:03:16the past, right? But you know, just, you grow up,
- 2:03:19right? You have other shit to do and,
- 2:03:22you know, you check in, check in with them every once in a while.
- 2:03:24But like, because I know you think, or I know you're kind of
- 2:03:28primed to expect that I'm like a troll or like I'm trying to get
- 2:03:31something out of you. I'm trying to trick you.
- 2:03:33But to honest to God, like I just want your responses to
- 2:03:37these questions. Like that's all I'm after.
- 2:03:39Like, like I said, this recording means nothing.
- 2:03:42Like the only reason I want this recorded is so I can write down
- 2:03:45what you've said. I'm not going to give this to
- 2:03:47anybody. Like I'm not going to any e-mail
- 2:03:49Paul's ego or anything like that, all right?
- 2:03:52Like I just, I want it directly from you because it's a genuine
- 2:03:55question I have. And I think a lot of people have
- 2:03:57this question too. If that service is your, your,
- 2:04:02your question all. Right, let's hear it.
- 2:04:05So obviously you've been at this a long time, 20 years, you said
- 2:04:10even more probably. And you know, you're making your
- 2:04:15videos. You didn't really get into the
- 2:04:17the the real topics of your videos, but you talk about
- 2:04:20politics and religion and it's safe to say you're kind of,
- 2:04:25let's say, not flamboyant, but you're very a little edgy, a
- 2:04:31little controversial. You do some click bait
- 2:04:34sometimes. Or you can talk about, you know,
- 2:04:36saucy subjects, right? And I can understand as somebody
- 2:04:42who, let's say, as as a popular political figure, they make a
- 2:04:48lot of money off of making videos and that kind of stuff.
- 2:04:52But just like, again, this is, I'm not trying to be mean, but
- 2:04:56you just don't really seem to be making that much money off of
- 2:05:00all this YouTube stuff. And you've said that you've
- 2:05:02tried to promote your stuff, you've tried to advertise, You
- 2:05:05know, you're trying real hard. And honestly, I give it to you
- 2:05:09because you said one of your, your strengths is like endurance
- 2:05:12and you've, you've really endured all this time.
- 2:05:15I guess the real question is like, why do you continue to do
- 2:05:20it if A, you don't make much money off it?
- 2:05:24B nobody Again, no offense, but you kind of have a bad
- 2:05:30reputation on the Internet and people don't seem to like you
- 2:05:34and C like it just seems like it it my picture is that this is
- 2:05:41kind of like a personal like outlet for you.
- 2:05:43Like you don't really have anyone to talk to, but you have
- 2:05:47to. She's like, let me.
- 2:05:48Finish, please, you're all over the place.
- 2:05:50I know I'm I'm, I'm trying to get back to it.
- 2:05:52Pretty much it, it seems like you make videos because it's
- 2:05:56like a little personal outlet for you and that's perfectly
- 2:05:58fine. And but The thing is like, you
- 2:06:02remove videos all the time and it's hard for someone to kind
- 2:06:06of, you know, stay on top of you because, you know, you're on
- 2:06:10Spotify, you're on YouTube, it's kind of all over the place.
- 2:06:14And I guess just the real question is just why do you
- 2:06:16continue to do it? Because it just seems like it
- 2:06:18begets like suffering and just like nothing.
- 2:06:22So just like, why? Just why do you continue to do
- 2:06:25it? Well, first of all, I make a lot
- 2:06:29more views than a lot of other people out there.
- 2:06:32That's like asking anybody, hey, you only got 10 subscribers, why
- 2:06:36even bother? I mean, obviously the idea is
- 2:06:39you're going to build. I'm doing a hell of a lot better
- 2:06:42on Spotify than I am YouTube. YouTube has a lot of algorithm
- 2:06:46issues. I've been popular before.
- 2:06:49Everybody's going to have their moment.
- 2:06:51Even my critics. Even my critics had their
- 2:06:53moments where they were in the light and then they started
- 2:06:56becoming irrelevant. You can't have the expectation
- 2:07:00that it's always going to be that way.
- 2:07:02But I already told you it's not about being able to have a big
- 2:07:06audience. For me, I literally that moment
- 2:07:09that I get one guy or one woman who just simply wants to have a
- 2:07:13cool conversation, that's to me, that feels like a win.
- 2:07:17I'm not looking for a bunch of fanboys or fan girls.
- 2:07:21It's all about being able to have that interaction.
- 2:07:26OK. But on that do are the majority
- 2:07:30of interactions you have positive ones?
- 2:07:33Because they seem to be mostly negative.
- 2:07:36Yes, the interactions are actually much more positive than
- 2:07:40negative. I have a single group of users
- 2:07:44who are the the critics and haters, and most of them,
- 2:07:47there's a consistent pattern. They're atheist, they don't like
- 2:07:50religion, they don't like my look, they don't like the way I
- 2:07:53do shit. It's literally a couple atheist
- 2:07:56podcast with a decent amount of subscribers who are bitching and
- 2:08:00moaning and doing reddits and all that.
- 2:08:03Who gives a fuck what a small minority group in society thinks
- 2:08:08about that? I mean, literally, I'm not
- 2:08:09trying to be an asshole. I have countless Christians, I
- 2:08:13talked to Muslims, I talked to pagans, I even got Satanist to
- 2:08:17come on my radio show and we have respectful, enjoyable
- 2:08:21conversations. Literally, it's a small group
- 2:08:25compared to the massive amount of people that I talked to are
- 2:08:29have on my own show that it's enjoyable.
- 2:08:32It makes it absolutely worth it. There's nobody on the Internet
- 2:08:36that's ever going to always have great interactions.
- 2:08:40If your entire gauge is somebody doesn't like me on the Internet
- 2:08:45and their buddies don't either, that I should stop, well, that's
- 2:08:49impossible expectations. You do what you do and then
- 2:08:53whatever you accomplish out of it, you got to take it as a win.
- 2:08:59OK, but again, it's like like, you know, before I was asking
- 2:09:06like where would like a a new viewer be like a good place to
- 2:09:09start, right. And the reason I asked that is
- 2:09:12because like, it, it just, it, it, it confuses me how someone
- 2:09:26like, how would somebody come across you if they're not coming
- 2:09:31to like fuck with you, to be completely honest with you?
- 2:09:34Like, are there really, do you really get people who like have
- 2:09:39never heard of you or anything and just come across your videos
- 2:09:42and they're like, oh, this guy sounds interesting.
- 2:09:43And then you like have a conversation with them.
- 2:09:45Like it seems the majority of any interaction you get is
- 2:09:49negative interaction. Like that's how it appears on
- 2:09:51the surface. Like am I missing something?
- 2:09:53Is there more of? Course, it's absolutely
- 2:09:55understandable why you'd see it that way.
- 2:09:57You've already conceded and admitted that you watch people
- 2:10:01who are my credits. You went over there looking for
- 2:10:04something for them, and I happen to be one of the people
- 2:10:07featured. Of course, from your narrow
- 2:10:10perspective, you're going to see wow, it seems like there's a lot
- 2:10:13of people who are saying poop balls all day and calling me
- 2:10:16names. But you don't hang out in
- 2:10:18crystal circles, do you? You don't even like the idea of
- 2:10:21hanging out with other people. You don't even like to
- 2:10:24socialize, so how are you going to know about all the different
- 2:10:27groups I hang out with? Look on the Internet.
- 2:10:30If you look and actually dig through the bullshit, you'll see
- 2:10:33I've been on countless podcasts and shows.
- 2:10:36I'm not sitting over here telling you that I'm some kind
- 2:10:39of super famous person, but I get what I want out of all of
- 2:10:43it. I do have my good conversations.
- 2:10:45I do make friends, but there's another thing too.
- 2:10:49Because of some of the heat that I received from the podcast, my
- 2:10:53friends and I, we keep things quiet because I don't want my
- 2:10:56friends getting fucked and harassed.
- 2:10:59Like I got a guy named TTOR, he's an autistic Christian.
- 2:11:03As soon as people seen him on a podcast with me and he
- 2:11:06advertises YouTube channel, they won't leave them alone now.
- 2:11:10So now that people see that they're kind of friends in
- 2:11:13private or they don't put out their names now because they
- 2:11:16don't want to become a part of the circle that becomes featured
- 2:11:19and attacked non-stop. It's called cyber bullying.
- 2:11:24I mean, sure, I can understand that.
- 2:11:27But again, it just kind of goes back to like, because like I
- 2:11:31said, I wanted this interview to be because when you look up
- 2:11:34Brett Keene, you don't see a lot of, you know, positive things.
- 2:11:37And of course, you know, we could bemoan atheists all day
- 2:11:40about, you know, what they've done and all that stuff, right?
- 2:11:43But to for an outside viewer who is going to read this article
- 2:11:50for an example, how would they be able to, to parse through all
- 2:11:56this to find the real Brett Keene in all of it?
- 2:11:59Because like I've said, you've been around forever and it's
- 2:12:02kind of hard to pin you down a lot of the times because a lot
- 2:12:05of your videos are missing or they get deleted.
- 2:12:07And because like example on the video I initially commented on
- 2:12:11to like get your like information stuff, that video is
- 2:12:14gone. I don't know what happened to
- 2:12:15it. So.
- 2:12:16It's over in Spotify, every one of my videos, and I've made this
- 2:12:20clear repeatedly. I always tell people often are,
- 2:12:24and I say, you know how this works?
- 2:12:26I put the video up. I'll keep it up for a little
- 2:12:28while. The problem is, is that people
- 2:12:32on the atheist community flag and report the shit out of the
- 2:12:35channel. I don't have the same concern
- 2:12:38over on Spotify because there is no way for them to fuck with me.
- 2:12:41They're a lot more expanded on what they'll allow.
- 2:12:45So the video sets up for a while, just long enough for
- 2:12:48people to get a taste. And everybody who actually
- 2:12:50watches me know that if they want to continue to watch it or
- 2:12:53re watch it, it's going to be on Spotify.
- 2:12:56It's like the way TV show is. It airs, but you know you can go
- 2:13:01out and buy the DVD. That's how it works.
- 2:13:05But again, just like to a new viewer who goes to your channel,
- 2:13:10they're going to see videos with comments disabled or no comments
- 2:13:15or anything. And how is that inviting for you
- 2:13:19to have a conversation with them?
- 2:13:21Because it's not just what you see on video.
- 2:13:24If you go to my biography right now, you'll see that my e-mail
- 2:13:28is in there. I mean, you did find my e-mail.
- 2:13:30There were times where I you. Gave me something because I
- 2:13:33asked for. It all right so I also have a
- 2:13:35Google Voice thing where I put my phone number out there.
- 2:13:39I have other social media sites where I make myself more
- 2:13:43accessible in public. I'll give you an example of
- 2:13:46somebody that I am, that I hang out with it in big circles.
- 2:13:51Are you familiar with a huge YouTube by the name of Kent
- 2:13:56Hogan? Yeah, yes, actually, he's the
- 2:14:01ARC guy, right? Yeah, he's a he's a famous guy.
- 2:14:05I don't agree with all of his views, but he's really cool and
- 2:14:08nice. He's got over hundreds of
- 2:14:11thousands of subscribers. He would.
- 2:14:13He literally blows away all my credits.
- 2:14:16You bitch about how whatever about me, but I hang out with
- 2:14:20that guy because I like listening to him.
- 2:14:22I like having conversations with him and I go over to Rumble
- 2:14:26sometimes. I hang out with podcasters over
- 2:14:28there. YouTube isn't my only avenue.
- 2:14:31I have many other places that I do things.
- 2:14:34That's why I'm all over the place all.
- 2:14:37Right. And I guess this is the the
- 2:14:39ultimate question to all this then.
- 2:14:41So why continue using YouTube, period?
- 2:14:45Because you only keep the videos up there a little while you seem
- 2:14:49like you don't really like how the algorithm is or anything.
- 2:14:51You say you're way more successful on Spotify and you
- 2:14:54you've always make videos saying you're going to leave YouTube,
- 2:14:57but you've always come back. So why not just leave YouTube?
- 2:15:02That's what I told you earlier. I don't know how to completely
- 2:15:05quit. I still have that nostalgia of
- 2:15:08when YouTube actually was good. And from time to time, like I'll
- 2:15:12give you an example, I went into a, a YouTube show that somebody
- 2:15:16else was hosting, a guy named Zekel and also Jill.
- 2:15:20They were running their podcasts.
- 2:15:22I come in, they had the link out like stream yards.
- 2:15:25I went in and a bunch of people showed up and they're like, hey,
- 2:15:28Brett, what's going on, man? And I'm like, how you guys been
- 2:15:31doing and all that? I've been checking out your
- 2:15:33videos. They go, we've been watching
- 2:15:34your shit. I had talked to a buddy of mine
- 2:15:37just recently in front of pretty decent audience where we talked
- 2:15:40about moral framework, slavery, biblical, you know, some of the
- 2:15:45shit that went on in the Bible. I get along just fine with
- 2:15:49Christians and people of other faiths.
- 2:15:51Dude, it's just atheist and a particular atheist tribe that is
- 2:15:56very loud about what they're about.
- 2:15:58And as far as OK, you're not doing very good on YouTube.
- 2:16:02So then I need to keep building. Or maybe eventually I will quit.
- 2:16:07I'm just not ready yet. All right.
- 2:16:12I mean, yeah. I mean, it's hard to, you know,
- 2:16:14break the habit, I guess you could say.
- 2:16:19Let me just think if there's anything else on that.
- 2:16:23If you ever decide to be a YouTube man, you ever decide to
- 2:16:27do it, there's going to be days where it's annoying.
- 2:16:31It's not always happy. And you might have that moment
- 2:16:34where you say, you know what, maybe it's not worth it and you
- 2:16:37say it, but you have the absolute right to, three days
- 2:16:41later, feel a totally different way and go, yeah, I'll give it
- 2:16:45one more chance. I'll give it one more try.
- 2:16:48Anybody can do that. I don't know why that's such a
- 2:16:52big deal. It just, I guess it just seems
- 2:16:57more harmful than good to to keep at it.
- 2:17:00But I mean, one must imagine Sisyphus is happy, right?
- 2:17:05Like how I I guess that's what I'm confused about, how some
- 2:17:09people are going to like me, some people won't.
- 2:17:11Where's the real harm? It just seems like I said, it
- 2:17:15seems like there is a, a, a general opposition to you, I
- 2:17:21guess I can say. And at least for me, like if
- 2:17:27something like if I kept trying at something and people, you
- 2:17:30know, like you should be persistent, sure.
- 2:17:33But if it gets to a point where you're literally like not making
- 2:17:36much progress, like I just don't see the point.
- 2:17:38But. And you know why that is?
- 2:17:41That's not because of me. It's because of your own self
- 2:17:44projection. I mean, you already made it
- 2:17:47clear earlier that you don't like to fit into people's
- 2:17:50expectations. So for you watching it from the
- 2:17:54outside, you're thinking, geez, I wouldn't be able to handle
- 2:17:57that. Hell, I don't even like doing it
- 2:17:58now. That's why you're saying these
- 2:18:01things, because it would bother you as a person.
- 2:18:04I'm telling you, I don't give a rat's ass if people hate it or
- 2:18:07not. I just want to say it's very
- 2:18:10interesting how I gave you a little nugget on something that
- 2:18:13bothers me and you keep bringing it up.
- 2:18:15It's just very interesting. You're doing it to me, so what's
- 2:18:18the problem? I'm just saying it's
- 2:18:20interesting. OK, let's see.
- 2:18:25I don't want to take up any more of your time.
- 2:18:27So I'll spring on the last questions.
- 2:18:30I mean, I hopefully we could have maybe we can have another
- 2:18:33conversation to, to iron out more stuff.
- 2:18:35But I, I think we've got most of what I need.
- 2:18:40So we want to, I want to end it off with asking how can you or
- 2:18:44can you define like grifting in terms of like the Internet, like
- 2:18:49what does it mean to be a grifter?
- 2:18:53I don't think that that it's a problem asking people for
- 2:18:56support or donations and all that.
- 2:18:59I see no moral, ethical issue with people saying, look, this
- 2:19:04is what I need it for. If you want to support me, you
- 2:19:08can. You're not obligated, that's
- 2:19:09fine. But if you're somebody like,
- 2:19:12let's say I don't know if I want to point out a name, I see it
- 2:19:15constantly. Please.
- 2:19:16Every not. Any examples?
- 2:19:19All right, Ben Pye from The Drunken Peasants.
- 2:19:21Every fucking day it's fill my goal.
- 2:19:24Fill my goal. He calls it Ghoul.
- 2:19:27Come on, We're trying to make $500 today.
- 2:19:29We're trying to do this. He's constantly sucking Internet
- 2:19:32Dick in order to get money. It's every single day.
- 2:19:36He makes it clear that it's all about money for him and he
- 2:19:39doesn't give a shit about the audience.
- 2:19:41He literally doesn't even take the effort to try to do
- 2:19:44something original or unique of his own.
- 2:19:47He relies on trying to find fat women are people that he thinks
- 2:19:51has flaws so he can watch them on the screen and insult them.
- 2:19:55He's the lowest fruit and it's all about money for him.
- 2:19:58He doesn't. He's become irrelevant.
- 2:20:01He's literally bleeding on subscriptions and you can see
- 2:20:05that by looking at Cyberblade I believe.
- 2:20:07No, it's Socialblade, not Cyberblade.
- 2:20:10So there's that. OK, so Ben Pye and is is an
- 2:20:14example of a grifter but. Yeah, Click on any video
- 2:20:19randomly click on any random video.
- 2:20:21Money, money, money, money, over and over and over.
- 2:20:25And grifting, I don't know if you really like defined it, but
- 2:20:30it's the act of like taking money from people like
- 2:20:36maliciously I guess is. The way it is, it's it's the
- 2:20:39constant pleading, it's where you show over and over that
- 2:20:43that's literally all it's about. The difference between a guy
- 2:20:46like me and Ben is that even if tomorrow I was literally making
- 2:20:52fucking nickels, I enjoy what I'm doing and I keep doing it.
- 2:20:57If some of these influencers out here weren't making this kind of
- 2:21:01setup of money that they were doing, they would literally
- 2:21:04quit. They have no investment.
- 2:21:06They don't have a rat's ass about their audience.
- 2:21:09They would walk. I did this shit for years
- 2:21:12without ever making a fucking dime because I enjoyed it.
- 2:21:15I enjoyed the social interaction.
- 2:21:17OK. I mean, that's one of the
- 2:21:22questions too. What do you think is most pop or
- 2:21:24most important? Popularity or integrity?
- 2:21:29I think integrity is important, but the lines can actually get
- 2:21:33blurred if you start getting critics and you start getting
- 2:21:36people who want to build their own fake persona of what they
- 2:21:40actually think you are. And I think you understand what
- 2:21:43I'm talking about and I'm not going to nail you down on what
- 2:21:46you said earlier, but you get the point.
- 2:21:50No. Please elaborate.
- 2:21:52It's people. Basically whenever they look at
- 2:21:55you, they perceive you as something different.
- 2:21:58Their brain basically tells them this person's shit or they're
- 2:22:01irrelevant, or they don't have value as a person, or they see
- 2:22:06you as some kind of amplified version of yourself.
- 2:22:10People do that. It's facial recognition.
- 2:22:14Sure, sure. Of course I need to ask.
- 2:22:22I mean, you said you haven't made like much money off this,
- 2:22:24but have you ever been paid by a religious or political
- 2:22:29affiliated group to espouse any viewpoints?
- 2:22:33Well of course, every week the Pope sends me like $100,000.
- 2:22:38Wait a minute, I'm not even Catholic.
- 2:22:41No, I have no religious organization.
- 2:22:44And whenever I was a former popular atheist, there was no
- 2:22:47like, company I didn't have like Richard Dawkins sending me a
- 2:22:51fucking investment or a loan or anything.
- 2:22:53Nothing. And I've never got, I never got
- 2:22:56on video once claiming to be some super wealthy person.
- 2:23:01I'm just a regular guy doing my regular thing and I happen to
- 2:23:04make a little bit through monetization.
- 2:23:08Sure, sure. And then on that, I also just
- 2:23:12want to ask, do you feel that if you talk about certain topics or
- 2:23:18espouse certain viewpoints that you profit off of it
- 2:23:23financially? Have you ever found that to be
- 2:23:25the case? Not really, it's hard to do
- 2:23:31anything with gaming and shit. I haven't really noticed my
- 2:23:35shit's kind of friends because most people are talking about
- 2:23:39like, I don't know what I would consider beneath me and what I
- 2:23:44talked about. Let's let's face it, more people
- 2:23:47are going to watch a fucking clown acting like a fool
- 2:23:51sticking his head in the toilet as opposed to a scientist
- 2:23:54talking about a new technological invention.
- 2:23:57I mean, let's really look at what the internet's about.
- 2:24:00People are looking for that quick dopamine hit.
- 2:24:03They want something funny, silly.
- 2:24:04Oh, what's this new movie? Not a lot of people are sitting
- 2:24:08there thinking about? Do I have an intrinsic value in
- 2:24:11the universe? So you think the problem is that
- 2:24:17you're kind of the things you're interested in don't seem to
- 2:24:21generate money other than you like selling out, for example?
- 2:24:27Yeah, yeah. I mean, if I were to get on
- 2:24:29video and let's say, stick Pickles up my ass and scream and
- 2:24:34and fucking slap my head like a retarded seal, I'd probably get
- 2:24:37a hell of a lot of bigger audience than that.
- 2:24:40I'm fully aware of what I could do if that was my agenda, but
- 2:24:46that's not interesting to me. I don't want to pour.
- 2:24:49Like there's a guy out there called Onision.
- 2:24:51He makes videos where he takes bowls of cereal and dumps the
- 2:24:54shit over his head and sits there and acts like he's funny
- 2:24:58or something. And some people are like, yeah,
- 2:25:00Nician, what's he going to do next?
- 2:25:03He's probably going to fuck a monkey or something for
- 2:25:05attention. Yeah, you see, people are
- 2:25:07interested in that crazy shit. I'm not crazy.
- 2:25:12OK, so you're just you're too tepid really is the thing.
- 2:25:16You're too, too SIPID is I guess is the word.
- 2:25:21OK, so I guess, yeah. So how would you defend the
- 2:25:25claim if someone said that you were a grifter?
- 2:25:29I'd say that I've actually asked for donations and support, and I
- 2:25:33understand that, but I would preface it with I don't ask for
- 2:25:37obligations. Basically, if I go an entire
- 2:25:40week where nobody donates or supports, it doesn't hurt me in
- 2:25:44any way. I don't go, oh man, I didn't
- 2:25:46meet a certain goal, I'll continue on just like nothing
- 2:25:50even happened. It doesn't matter.
- 2:25:52I don't have an expectation of getting shipped from anybody,
- 2:25:56but the offer is up there. If people want to other people,
- 2:26:00if they weren't getting a certain amount of money, they'd
- 2:26:03say fuck this. Because the truth is a lot of
- 2:26:05these people who do what they're doing, Do you think that Onision
- 2:26:08really likes pouring shit all over his body or rolling around
- 2:26:12in fucking mud like a pig? No, he's not enjoying that.
- 2:26:16But he's chasing trends and he's wanting to be edgy.
- 2:26:21Sure. I mean that is definitely part
- 2:26:23of it. But you, you like to kind of
- 2:26:28position yourself as someone who is kind of above that sort of
- 2:26:31thing. Like you, it's, it is beneath
- 2:26:34you like you're kind of have too much, like we said, integrity.
- 2:26:38It's not just integrity, it's also, and you're probably going
- 2:26:42to laugh at me for saying this. It's pure fucking laziness.
- 2:26:46I don't have the energy to act like a wild animal.
- 2:26:49I don't want to do that. That's like going way extra.
- 2:26:53And I don't think it's required in order for me to get the
- 2:26:56certain narrow audience that I'm looking for.
- 2:26:59I want to meet the people who want to have intelligent
- 2:27:02discussions. I'm not looking for the guy who
- 2:27:05comes in and says, hey, Brett, when you fucking stuck a banana
- 2:27:08up your ass that day, that was really, really funny.
- 2:27:11You know who wants to have that conversation?
- 2:27:15No, but I completely understand that.
- 2:27:20Yeah, it's just it again, it just kind of goes back into just
- 2:27:27like, why keep doing it? Because I mean, it's not money
- 2:27:34and it's for the social, I guess.
- 2:27:37And so like, I guess just one other question I just want to
- 2:27:42ask. It's like if you kind of because
- 2:27:46you're like off like I had, you know, I'm a little lazy.
- 2:27:48That's why it's not really there.
- 2:27:49But do you think like if you legitimately like you'd say,
- 2:27:53just say somehow you had that vigor and you had that energy.
- 2:27:56Do you think if you really put like all your effort into it,
- 2:27:59like you would really like improve or like you'd start
- 2:28:02getting more traction? Or do you think it's like, ah,
- 2:28:05what's even the point of like trying anymore?
- 2:28:07Like that seems to be where you're at though.
- 2:28:09But do you think if you had that, do you think you would
- 2:28:12start getting more popular? You think you would make more
- 2:28:14money off it? Do you think it's just it's,
- 2:28:16it's just the the the lethargy that is the problem?
- 2:28:21There's a laziness and there's also the fact that I'm not like
- 2:28:26a lot of Youtubers and where I'm scripted, I'm the type of guy
- 2:28:29who literally turns my video on. I hit record and then I just
- 2:28:33bounce. I either I'm going to have a
- 2:28:36human in, in the moment sometimes or it's going to be
- 2:28:39AI. I don't think a whole lot about
- 2:28:42it. I'll read an article, I'll get
- 2:28:45some thought processes and I'll make about a 20 minute video.
- 2:28:48And if it's a really, really passionate thing then it could
- 2:28:52go on for an hour or two. I don't have scheduled shit.
- 2:28:56I don't think a whole great deal.
- 2:28:58It's all in the moment. That's what's very authentic
- 2:29:02about me and people know. They know that what I'm doing is
- 2:29:05real. And if I'm talking about
- 2:29:07something, it means that I actually give a shit about what
- 2:29:10I'm doing, and it's not for chasing trends.
- 2:29:15OK, I have like 2 final questions and then I'll let you
- 2:29:18go because you've given me more. We've gone like way over time.
- 2:29:23But I I generally appreciate everything though.
- 2:29:26So I just want to ask real quick.
- 2:29:29I guess it's a two-part question.
- 2:29:30So I'm kind of cheating, but so you, you, you're very authentic.
- 2:29:35You're kind of off the cup. You don't script things.
- 2:29:37And I notice you don't really edit your videos.
- 2:29:39Like you have a very long intro, like you edit that in, but you
- 2:29:42don't really like cut stuff out. And I wanted to ask A, why the
- 2:29:46long intro every time? And B, like why don't you like
- 2:29:50edit out like any mistakes or like dead air, Like why don't
- 2:29:52you really edit your videos? Because that involves a great
- 2:29:57deal of effort and people know that whenever they hear me.
- 2:30:01It would be like talking to someone on the phone or on the
- 2:30:04computer. That's the whole point.
- 2:30:06I'm interacting with people the same way I would if I was on
- 2:30:09like let's say Discord or chat room or stream yards.
- 2:30:14You I, I just don't want to go through the process.
- 2:30:17If I say that suddenly, oh, oh, I got to go to the bathroom, I'm
- 2:30:21not going to go back later. That's literally 3 hours of my
- 2:30:25life. In order to cut out five minutes
- 2:30:27that I walked away, I say I'll be right back and neither people
- 2:30:31can walk the fuck away or they can stay and wait for the rest
- 2:30:34of what I call the show. That's just the way it is.
- 2:30:37It's too much editing, too much fucking time making shit all
- 2:30:42sparkly that involves a lot of bullshit.
- 2:30:45Why do I want to go that route? I just want to say my piece and
- 2:30:48move on. I want to go hang out with the
- 2:30:50wife, watch a movie. I don't want to spend all day
- 2:30:53trying to make shit all look sweet and nice.
- 2:30:56Why anyway? I mean, I can understand, like I
- 2:31:00said, I used to be like a video editor and I honestly don't like
- 2:31:03editing so I can understand it, but it just seems like
- 2:31:07especially cuz like I've said, like people kind of make funny
- 2:31:09sometimes for like leaving in a mistake and I feel like that
- 2:31:11could be avoided if you like edited it out, you know?
- 2:31:15How you mean like whenever I I know what you're talking about
- 2:31:18now I know where you're getting at.
- 2:31:20I wasn't fully completely on board before you were gone.
- 2:31:23Like saying a word wrong or mispronouncing something or
- 2:31:27inventing my own word on the spot.
- 2:31:29Well believe it or not, these people, even the critics and
- 2:31:32haters don't realize that I don't care if they make fun of
- 2:31:37me or they say something dumb. It brings me audience or
- 2:31:40literally advertising me for free When someone makes fun of
- 2:31:45the way I talk or whatever and people think that's cute, maybe
- 2:31:48they'll end up coming to my channel and going, yeah, he
- 2:31:51fucks up sometimes, but he's a pretty cool dude.
- 2:31:55That's that's the thing. Would you really do that?
- 2:31:58You said you're a video editor. Let's say you accidentally cough
- 2:32:01on video. Are you really wanting to go
- 2:32:04back to A2 hour video just to get a part where you
- 2:32:06accidentally farted or coughed? Well, if it's like a structured
- 2:32:11edited video, then yeah, I probably would because I don't
- 2:32:15want, I don't want that to like if you're watching a video and
- 2:32:18then someone just coughs, like, don't you go like, well, why did
- 2:32:20I have to watch them cough? Like when you're an editor, you
- 2:32:22have the whole you, you control everything.
- 2:32:25So why would you like have all that?
- 2:32:28Especially because like I edited like short films.
- 2:32:30And if there's like a few seconds of silence, it's like,
- 2:32:32well, why is that there? So for me personally, I get more
- 2:32:37I guess anal about that sort of stuff.
- 2:32:39But like I said, it just seems like unwanted suffering where
- 2:32:43you could kind of avoid some of the, you know, ribbing you get.
- 2:32:46But it just seems like you just I can understand, like, you
- 2:32:50know, all publicity is good publicity you.
- 2:32:52Have to understand. You have to understand, bro,
- 2:32:54that people are very anal. It doesn't matter how clean you
- 2:32:58present yourself. If a person has decided that
- 2:33:01they don't like your work, there's nothing you could do
- 2:33:04about it. It's not about, you know, trying
- 2:33:07to keep them flashy and all that.
- 2:33:09I'm not a flashy person to begin with.
- 2:33:12I'm 49 years old, fucking got Gray hair.
- 2:33:15I'm just a chill out type of guy who's literally just hitting
- 2:33:19record. I don't give a rat's ass about
- 2:33:21all that. If somebody's watching my videos
- 2:33:24because and it bothers them over a cough, what am I supposed to
- 2:33:27do with that? I think that you have to
- 2:33:29understand that you go looking for videos and when you think
- 2:33:34they're going to be serious, you expect them to be done
- 2:33:36professionally. I like watching people who are
- 2:33:39off the cuff. I like watching it when a
- 2:33:41comedian laughs at himself or he fucking falls out of character.
- 2:33:46Things like that amuse me. I'm not always looking for
- 2:33:49serious serious content in that way.
- 2:33:54No, that's that date. That's completely fine to, you
- 2:33:57know, be a little bit silly about stuff.
- 2:33:58But again, it's just, it's just when you're presenting yourself,
- 2:34:03especially if you want to get into like, you know, psychology
- 2:34:06or philosophy or or religion or stuff, you should kind of try
- 2:34:09and present yourself in a professional manner.
- 2:34:11And like, like you said, if you were, if you were watching like
- 2:34:14somebody who's like proclaims to be like an expert on like
- 2:34:17religion or something and they like they're like farting and
- 2:34:19burping and stuff in the video, you'd probably be like, who's
- 2:34:21this schlub? Like it's just more about
- 2:34:24appearances I guess. It depends on, it depends on
- 2:34:27what you expect from them. Like I don't expect that I'm
- 2:34:31going to hear some kind of sophisticated thing.
- 2:34:33Like let's say say for example, the Amazing Atheist.
- 2:34:36You know what you kind of get with him and you're just kind
- 2:34:39of, except he's got his flaws but you still listen to some of
- 2:34:43his points and shit. Even if you don't like him, you
- 2:34:46may find some things he says interesting and other shit.
- 2:34:49You're like out, dude. Once you wear some fucking pants
- 2:34:52or something, don't wear, you know, sweatpants on the damn
- 2:34:55video. Why bother with all that little
- 2:34:58minute shit, You know? That's all I'm saying.
- 2:35:01You kind of know what you get. If you've been watching somebody
- 2:35:04for a while, you know what you to expect.
- 2:35:08So I, I guess just to like, I have one other question, but to
- 2:35:13kind of wrap up this segment. So do you think what you're
- 2:35:16presenting is like, that's what you want people to you think?
- 2:35:21I guess let me rephrase it like this, how you're presenting
- 2:35:23yourself in your videos and you know, social media and
- 2:35:27everything. Do you think you're presenting a
- 2:35:30clear image of yourself that other people are going to like
- 2:35:34accurately dissect? Pretty much.
- 2:35:38When I first started out, I thought that I the
- 2:35:41representation that I was doing was going to, that I was
- 2:35:46accurately pointing out who I am and what type of person.
- 2:35:50It wasn't until later I found out that oh, some people are
- 2:35:54getting this weird idea about me or this.
- 2:35:57I assumed that if they were really interested and had
- 2:36:00questions, they do what you're doing right now or they just
- 2:36:03simply ask, hey Brad, I didn't quite understand your point on
- 2:36:07something or what did you mean? Or Brad, I think you were wrong.
- 2:36:10Let me correct you on that. That's what I assumed would
- 2:36:14happen. But instead people say, oh fuck
- 2:36:17it, let's just just totally ram all of this guy's flaws down his
- 2:36:21ass. No, I never assumed there was
- 2:36:24people that were so fucking petty they were going to do
- 2:36:26that. But what am I supposed to do
- 2:36:28with it if they're already like that?
- 2:36:30How do you rationalize with somebody who's that fucking
- 2:36:32dumb? OK, so again, it's, it's more
- 2:36:36other people's like negative intention than just you putting
- 2:36:42off the wrong idea I guess. No, it's a small group of
- 2:36:47assholes who do this to not only me, but they deliberately have
- 2:36:51the agenda. Their entire persona is about
- 2:36:55reacting to other people, making fun of them, belittling
- 2:36:58demoralization. It's a typical middle school
- 2:37:02type of attitude and I don't care that a group of them are
- 2:37:07doing that doesn't It's no skin off my back.
- 2:37:11OK, so, but but yeah, again, it's it is this this group of
- 2:37:15others that are misconstruing all this stuff and like just
- 2:37:21being assholes about it really. Right now, have you ever Another
- 2:37:26thing too, you were talking about, you know, people were
- 2:37:29spitting, farting on video. Have you ever watched debates
- 2:37:33with Richard Dawkins or Christopher Hitchens?
- 2:37:35Have you ever had the interest of watching material like that?
- 2:37:40Probably like a long time ago at this point, Like, like honestly,
- 2:37:44like I'm not like, you know, when I was in like high school,
- 2:37:47I was like more into like the religious debate or whatever.
- 2:37:50Now I'm just kind of like whatever, but I vaguely know of
- 2:37:55them. I'll say I'll vaguely.
- 2:37:57Well here, let me make a quick point on you.
- 2:38:00Hitchens was considered a fucking genius.
- 2:38:03He was one of the top tier atheist of his time.
- 2:38:07Obviously he's dead now. I don't know how much you know
- 2:38:10about him, but the guy would literally go to a massive amount
- 2:38:14of assembly. He didn't give a fuck that his
- 2:38:16hair wasn't combed. He didn't give a shit that
- 2:38:19people didn't like. He was smoking a cigarette while
- 2:38:22I was debating while drinking whiskey.
- 2:38:24He was in his element, that was who he was, and he didn't try to
- 2:38:29wear like a pretty suit to look all fancy.
- 2:38:32He just didn't give a rat's ass. He came to destroy and then move
- 2:38:37on. He was like a fucking apex
- 2:38:39predator. He didn't give a damn what
- 2:38:41people thought. What he cared about is that he
- 2:38:43had people who were willing to listen.
- 2:38:45Does this now make sense? I think so.
- 2:38:49I think I know what you're getting at.
- 2:38:50Like it's more that you don't, I guess I don't want to put words
- 2:38:55in your mouth, but I think you're trying to say is you're,
- 2:38:57you're not concerned with how you look or what your reputation
- 2:39:02is or the kind of image you've cultivated.
- 2:39:04What's most important is like getting down to it, like getting
- 2:39:07direct into it. Like everything else is is just
- 2:39:10aesthetics really. Yeah, you're basically kind of
- 2:39:15putting me in the position unfortunately.
- 2:39:18And I know you're not trying to do it on purpose.
- 2:39:20It's like the way women do things.
- 2:39:22They put on makeup, they make themselves pretty so they can
- 2:39:25get a certain type of thing. But if you go out and that's the
- 2:39:29first impression, that's what's going to be expected of you
- 2:39:31every time. That's I'm basically saying I'm
- 2:39:34the natural beauty type of guy. You either like me or you don't.
- 2:39:39I'm not going to put lipstick on and and be a certain way just to
- 2:39:43be able to get people to look at me shit.
- 2:39:47I get you. So yeah, it's just it's more
- 2:39:49that you're just not concerned with all that stuff and just how
- 2:39:53you are is how you are. And if people don't like you,
- 2:39:55you know, screw them. It's just that that kind of
- 2:39:57mentality. OK, that's fine.
- 2:40:01It sounds like you got me figured out now.
- 2:40:04Good deal. It only took like 3 hours when I
- 2:40:06finally figured it out. OK, final thing I want to bring
- 2:40:11out just because I'm it, it's interesting.
- 2:40:14I have so much more I would like to discuss, but we just didn't
- 2:40:17get to it. There is a video of you where I
- 2:40:22don't know if you remember, but there's a video of you where
- 2:40:24like you're like pretending that like you're dying and you're
- 2:40:28like you're in bed and you're like, oh, like I'm dying or
- 2:40:30whatever. And then it's like then you kind
- 2:40:32of like come back and like it's like the phoenix rises from the
- 2:40:35ashes and you're like Brett Keene has returned.
- 2:40:38Do you do you know that? Do you know what video I'm
- 2:40:40talking about? Yeah, it's called The
- 2:40:42Resurrection of Brett Keene. I also have, I also have another
- 2:40:47version of it that people are not completely familiar with
- 2:40:50because that one was much more popular, but it's called Brett
- 2:40:54Keene Finds a Potion of youth or some shit.
- 2:40:57And yeah, it's like the No not potion fountain of youth.
- 2:41:01That's what it's called. Because honestly, like, I like
- 2:41:05that video, like maybe ironically, but I, I think that
- 2:41:08video is, is, is great. And I was just wondering if you
- 2:41:11still have that or if that's available somewhere.
- 2:41:14I would love to see that video. Yeah, it's actually on my radio
- 2:41:17station. Every episode I've ever done for
- 2:41:20the last 20 years, except for whenever I was arguing for
- 2:41:24atheism. Obviously wouldn't make sense to
- 2:41:26have atheist videos when I was a former atheist up on a Christian
- 2:41:30radio station. So like all your videos are on
- 2:41:34Spotify? Like all of them.
- 2:41:36Yeah, I've got over 2500 videos on there.
- 2:41:41I'm, I'm definitely going to have to look through that
- 2:41:43because that'll be a great resource because like I said,
- 2:41:46like. Direction of Brett Keene and
- 2:41:48you'll find it. It's in high definition now.
- 2:41:51Because like I said, it can be a little difficult sometimes
- 2:41:55because you do delete videos and it can be hard to find like the
- 2:41:58original. So, but if, if you say they're
- 2:42:00all available, then, then I'll definitely have to look through
- 2:42:02some of them. But I, I would love to talk more
- 2:42:06about other minute baloney, but I've obviously taken up enough
- 2:42:10of your time and mine. I, I do have other stuff to do
- 2:42:13unfortunately, but if there's anything else you want to
- 2:42:16include or if I, you know, if there's anything else you want
- 2:42:19to clarify, I'm pretty, I think I'm satisfied with what we've
- 2:42:23gotten out of this. But again, if anything else you
- 2:42:25want to add. No, I'm just going to literally
- 2:42:31after this is done, I'm going to wrap it up, hit end, and then
- 2:42:35I'm going to go hang out with my wife, have a nice dinner,
- 2:42:38probably watch something ridiculous that's probably
- 2:42:41beneath me, but I'm going to do it anyway for shitty little
- 2:42:44laughs. Yeah, I know I did.
- 2:42:47You did you enjoy that movie night?
- 2:42:49Honestly you, you deserved it after having to to listen to my
- 2:42:53horrible voice for the last like 3 hours.
- 2:42:57You don't have a horrible voice, you sound like you're you really
- 2:43:00pay attention to a lot of things.
- 2:43:02You should one day try YouTube. Don't let people who bully push
- 2:43:07you off or make you want to leave though.
- 2:43:10Do what makes you happy. Oh of course.
- 2:43:12I think my medium is in the written word unfortunately.
- 2:43:16But I appreciate it though, of course.
- 2:43:19Yeah, thank you for taking the time to talk.
- 2:43:22I'm glad we're, I think we seem to be on like amicable terms.
- 2:43:25I don't think I've broken any bad blood.
- 2:43:28I mean, we didn't get too deep into it now.
- 2:43:32Now if you'd like in the future, if you see me live streaming and
- 2:43:35I have some Christians and even atheists or people of other
- 2:43:39faiths, then I normally put my link out.
- 2:43:41If you feel like you want to participate and actually hang
- 2:43:44out with me and some buds or new people that are coming in to
- 2:43:48chat, you're more than welcome. I, I mean, I'll definitely have
- 2:43:51to check it out. It's just obviously I'll have to
- 2:43:54see if, you know, I got the time if things line up.
- 2:43:57But yeah, I I appreciate the invitation for sure.
- 2:44:02All right, ma'am. Anything else?
- 2:44:06Nothing that's like that short, but I think we we've pretty much
- 2:44:10gotten into it. I think everything else will be
- 2:44:13pretty like evident, I would say, because I wanted to talk
- 2:44:15about like the videos you make and that sort of stuff.
