Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schraeger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, everybody, Welcome to
- 0:24Speaker 1: another episode of the Season.
- 0:26Speaker 2: With Peter Schreeker.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I am Peter Schreker, your host, and I am still
- 0:29Speaker 1: smiling after what was an incredible viewing experience Monday evening.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I got to devote this whole episode to Jayden Daniels.
- 0:39Speaker 1: And if you're not a Commander's fan, or if you're
- 0:41Speaker 1: a diehard Eagles, Cowboys and Giants fan and you think
- 0:45Speaker 1: you're gonna vomit listening to this, I'll just tell you
- 0:48Speaker 1: turn it off, find another podcast, go listen to something else,
- 0:52Speaker 1: because I'm gonna geek out over Jaden. I loved, loved,
- 0:56Speaker 1: loved watching him play at LSU last year, and I'll
- 1:00Speaker 1: be honest, I don't have a long library of his
- 1:03Speaker 1: Arizona State days.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I don't go way back with him.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I fell in love with him last year when I
- 1:07Speaker 1: started watching LSU games on Saturday, especially down the stretch
- 1:10Speaker 1: of the season, and he made this incredible push to
- 1:14Speaker 1: the Heisman. I then spent most of the pre draft
- 1:17Speaker 1: process saying, yes, Caleb, but what about Jaden Daniels, Yes, Caleb,
- 1:21Speaker 1: but what about Jaden Daniels.
- 1:23Speaker 2: There is no wrong.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Answer yet, It's too soon, But I will say anyone
- 1:27Speaker 1: who was big on Jaden before the draft looks pretty
- 1:29Speaker 1: smart right now, because three weeks into his rookie season,
- 1:34Speaker 1: he looks as good and as polished and as ready
- 1:37Speaker 1: as any rookie quarterback that I remember, even CJ. Stroud
- 1:40Speaker 1: last year. I remember he lost his first game, had
- 1:43Speaker 1: a good bounce back game. It took him a couple
- 1:45Speaker 1: of weeks to feel as comfortable and look as confident
- 1:48Speaker 1: as Jaden Daniels has through three weeks. And Monday Night
- 1:51Speaker 1: it was everything on display Monday Night Football. You had
- 1:55Speaker 1: a rookie quarterback playing on the road in a hostile
- 2:01Speaker 1: environment under the lights on National TV and not ESPN,
- 2:06Speaker 1: that TV American broadcast company, National TV. That game was
- 2:11Speaker 1: on ABC for a national audience. That was the broadcast network.
- 2:17Speaker 1: And this Bengals team, which is a Super Bowl contender,
- 2:20Speaker 1: and everybody's eyes going to the season is zero to two, starving,
- 2:24Speaker 1: hungry and looking to finally get its first win of
- 2:28Speaker 1: the season, and Jaden Daniels came in there against lou
- 2:31Speaker 1: Ana Rumo's defense, and coach lou Is one of the
- 2:33Speaker 1: most respected and well regarded defensive coordinators in the league,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and Daniels came in and sliced that defense up, going
- 2:44Speaker 1: twenty one of twenty three, throwing for two hundred and
- 2:47Speaker 1: fifty four yards, throwing two touchdowns, running the ball for
- 2:52Speaker 1: forty yards, and running in a touchdown. This guy had
- 2:58Speaker 1: six offensive possessions and his team scored five touchdowns and
- 3:03Speaker 1: had one field goal and did not punt the entire game.
- 3:07Speaker 1: He is the first quarterback with a ninety plus completion percentage,
- 3:13Speaker 1: two hundred and fifty plus passing yards, two passing touchdowns,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and a rushing touchdown.
- 3:18Speaker 2: In any NFL game. Ever.
- 3:21Speaker 1: He's also the first player, not just a rookie since
- 3:23Speaker 1: nineteen fifty to do all of this in the in
- 3:25Speaker 1: the in one game, complete ninety percent of his passes,
- 3:30Speaker 1: throw for two fifty and more yards, throw for two touchdowns,
- 3:33Speaker 1: run for a touchdown, and have more touchdowns than in completes.
- 3:38Speaker 2: It's it's a statistical anomaly what he did.
- 3:40Speaker 1: But then you go through the context of the story
- 3:43Speaker 1: and that final key scoring drive. They're up five points
- 3:48Speaker 1: and it's third and seven and they're on the road
- 3:51Speaker 1: and Burrow just threw this, this dagger of a touchdown
- 3:55Speaker 1: to Jamar Chase to cut the game to five. And
- 3:57Speaker 1: Burrow's been there, done there. Burrow's hungry, Chase is hungry.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Chase is going off in this game. And they're up
- 4:03Speaker 1: five and it's third and seven and they get on
- 4:05Speaker 1: the field and the play call comes in and it's
- 4:08Speaker 1: all screwed up. Everyone's in the wrong place. You can
- 4:11Speaker 1: see rookie Luke McCaffrey is looking like a chicken with
- 4:14Speaker 1: his head cut off. You got Jamison Crowder on the
- 4:16Speaker 1: top of the screen, and they call time out. Now
- 4:19Speaker 1: at this particular moment, rookie quarterback on the road, five
- 4:24Speaker 1: point game, I think it's usually in your best interest
- 4:27Speaker 1: to either say, hey, let's go and get a seven
- 4:31Speaker 1: yard gain and try to get that first down. Make
- 4:33Speaker 1: it easy, a simple play, or maybe we pick up
- 4:36Speaker 1: a few yards and we either go for a long
- 4:39Speaker 1: field goal or we punt the ball and make them
- 4:41Speaker 1: go the length of the field. Kingsbury calls a play
- 4:46Speaker 1: and it's gopher broke for this dude. Jayden Daniels as
- 4:51Speaker 1: a rookie in his third game under the lights on
- 4:56Speaker 1: Primetime TV to cock back and throw that touchdown pass
- 5:02Speaker 1: to Terry McLaurin in the back of the end ze
- 5:04Speaker 1: when they needed seven yards. He goes twenty seven yards
- 5:08Speaker 1: into hit McLaurin, who gets his knee in. It's the
- 5:11Speaker 1: stuff that tell you a star is born and that
- 5:16Speaker 1: legends are being made in real time. I don't think
- 5:19Speaker 1: this is hyperbole. I don't think I'm going way over
- 5:21Speaker 1: my skis. That might have been the greatest regular season
- 5:25Speaker 1: rookie performance I've ever seen in a game. And Daniels
- 5:29Speaker 1: on top of that, is calling for plays from out
- 5:32Speaker 1: of bounds. He's telling guys where to go. It looks
- 5:35Speaker 1: like i Q wise, he's way ahead of where most
- 5:39Speaker 1: rookies are in his third game. I also think it's
- 5:42Speaker 1: the perfect situation. I can do a four hour podcast
- 5:46Speaker 1: on the Washington Commanders offseason and all the ups and downs.
- 5:49Speaker 1: You have to realize Ben Johnson was likely going to
- 5:53Speaker 1: be the head coach if we were to call this
- 5:55Speaker 1: early in the process. They met with him, they liked him.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Ben Johnson pulls his name from contention and then goes
- 6:01Speaker 1: and says, I'm gonna go and return to Detroit. We're
- 6:03Speaker 1: gonna try to run this thing back, Fine, that's Ben
- 6:05Speaker 1: Johnson's say, Washington, though they didn't offer the job to Johnson.
- 6:09Speaker 1: They pivot and they say, Okay, well he's out of
- 6:11Speaker 1: the conversation. Let's look somewhere else. They hire dan Quinn.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Dan Quinn joins Adam Peters. Adam Peters is a first
- 6:19Speaker 1: year at GM who himself has been through a million
- 6:22Speaker 1: interviews and met with a million teams, coming from the
- 6:25Speaker 1: forty nine ers and before that the Broncos and the
- 6:28Speaker 1: Patriots where he's won Super Bowls. You've got Peters, You've
- 6:32Speaker 1: got Quinn. Now you look at the offensive coordinator position.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Guys Cliff Kingsbury interviewed with the Eagles, wasn't offered the job,
- 6:40Speaker 1: interviewed with the Bears, where he coached Caleb in college,
- 6:45Speaker 1: wasn't offered the job. Interviewed with the Raiders, discussed the job,
- 6:50Speaker 1: terms were set, terms were discussed, and then kind of
- 6:55Speaker 1: fell apart at the last second. And then that very
- 6:58Speaker 1: same day where it fell apart with the Raiders, dan
- 7:02Speaker 1: Quinn calls and says, should we talk about this Washington gig. Eventually,
- 7:06Speaker 1: King's who has been an NFL head coach, who has
- 7:09Speaker 1: coached at the college level, both Patrick Mahomes and Caleb Williams,
- 7:12Speaker 1: and in the NFL level has been with Kyler Murray,
- 7:15Speaker 1: a mobile quarterback. Kingsbury goes to Washington. He and Adam
- 7:20Speaker 1: Peters quickly hit it off. He and Dan Quinn quickly
- 7:22Speaker 1: hit it off.
- 7:23Speaker 2: And it's one of.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Those deals where we'll keep our cards close to the vest.
- 7:27Speaker 1: But like they were all in on Jayden Daniels all summer. Now,
- 7:30Speaker 1: if Caleb was available, would Caleb in the pick?
- 7:32Speaker 2: Maybe?
- 7:33Speaker 1: I don't know, but it wasn't going to be mayor
- 7:35Speaker 1: Daniels as everyone was reporting it was Daniels. Jaden gets
- 7:39Speaker 1: there and Cliff basically puts an offense in that is
- 7:44Speaker 1: around this quarterback and his talents and what he can do.
- 7:47Speaker 1: It was the perfect marriage of GM coach, offensive coordinator,
- 7:54Speaker 1: then this vessel, this kid, this quarterback to make it
- 7:57Speaker 1: all work. You surround that with what they did in
- 8:00Speaker 1: free agency. And they didn't go and try to sign
- 8:03Speaker 1: some thirty million dollar receiver. They didn't do something crazy
- 8:07Speaker 1: and bring in a bunch of rookie wide receivers to
- 8:10Speaker 1: go along with them. No, they said, let's stick with
- 8:13Speaker 1: Terry McLaurin. And then Let's give him zach Ertz to
- 8:16Speaker 1: work with, who's been there, done that. Let's give him
- 8:18Speaker 1: Austin Eckler in the backfield, who's been there, done that,
- 8:21Speaker 1: and let's try to build an offense that includes both
- 8:24Speaker 1: veterans and rookies. Look, I don't know if the Commander's
- 8:27Speaker 1: win another game this season.
- 8:28Speaker 2: I don't.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Maybe they go, you know, two and fifteen and we
- 8:32Speaker 1: say that was a crazy win they had.
- 8:34Speaker 2: But I do know this.
- 8:35Speaker 1: What I saw on Monday night was a star and
- 8:39Speaker 1: what I saw on Monday night was an offense that
- 8:41Speaker 1: I really enjoy watching. I mentioned they didn't punt on
- 8:44Speaker 1: Monday Night. The Commanders have not punted since Week one.
- 8:47Speaker 1: They didn't punt against the Giants either. Two straight games
- 8:51Speaker 1: no punts, a ton of points, two wins, and a
- 8:54Speaker 1: new superstar in Our Lives, The Jayden Daniels era is
- 8:58Speaker 1: here and I am here for it. Our guest today
- 9:03Speaker 1: on the podcast is the great Damiel Jerrha. We are
- 9:07Speaker 1: going to do a deep dive. We're gonna talk more
- 9:09Speaker 1: on Jaden, but we're also going to talk about the
- 9:11Speaker 1: other rookie quarterbacks, some of the rookie wide receivers and
- 9:14Speaker 1: then we're gonna do a little sneak peek at next
- 9:16Speaker 1: year's draft and maybe get into a little Schador Sanders,
- 9:19Speaker 1: maybe little Travis Hunter, maybe a little Carson Beck, maybe
- 9:23Speaker 1: little Jackson Dart. Yes you're not familiar with those names,
- 9:26Speaker 1: We're gonna get into all of them with my guy DJ,
- 9:29Speaker 1: Daniel Jeremiah moved to six.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Right to this. Our guest is a dear friend of mine.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Our yearly joint mock drafts on this podcast are the
- 9:45Speaker 1: highest rated and most listened to podcasts that we do
- 9:47Speaker 1: each season on this podcast, and I think he's truly
- 9:51Speaker 1: one of my favorite people, and it's also one of
- 9:54Speaker 1: the most plugged in and knowledgeable when it comes to
- 9:56Speaker 1: these college prospects, but also the rookie class. With no
- 10:00Speaker 1: further ado, my dear friend from the NFL Network, mister
- 10:03Speaker 1: Daniel Jeremiah DJ, what's up, buddy.
- 10:06Speaker 3: It's so great to see Pete. But I got to say, man,
- 10:08Speaker 3: I think I had that shirt in high school. That
- 10:10Speaker 3: is phenomenal. What is the material? What are we working with?
- 10:13Speaker 2: It's like a swede, like a flannel, like it's just comfortable.
- 10:17Speaker 3: I just want to cut a cup of hot chocolate
- 10:19Speaker 3: and just want to cozy up to a fire with
- 10:21Speaker 3: that shirt on.
- 10:22Speaker 2: No doubt, no doubt.
- 10:24Speaker 1: As you live in sunny LA and we're already the
- 10:26Speaker 1: seasons already changing here in New York, and the season's
- 10:29Speaker 1: good segue check this out. This season has changed in Washington.
- 10:35Speaker 1: In my monologue, I start off and did a whole
- 10:37Speaker 1: spiel on how Jaden Daniels was the perfect player for
- 10:41Speaker 1: a team that needed them at the right time, with
- 10:44Speaker 1: the perfect coach, perfect offensive coordinator, and it's all just
- 10:47Speaker 1: like the stars aligning in Washington right now. But you
- 10:50Speaker 1: were hot on Jaden Daniels way back in like October
- 10:53Speaker 1: of last year. You were texting me like, did you
- 10:55Speaker 1: watch Daniels this week? And then throughout the draft process
- 10:59Speaker 1: you were a big Jaden Daniels fan. And then we
- 11:02Speaker 1: go through it all and he's the number two picks A.
- 11:04Speaker 1: He was an undrafted player. Everyone liked him. Looking at
- 11:07Speaker 1: it now, did you ever envision it being this fast
- 11:11Speaker 1: and this great and this sensational right out of the gates?
- 11:14Speaker 3: Well, I'm not in that game. I mean I thought
- 11:17Speaker 3: probably more like what we saw in the first two games,
- 11:19Speaker 3: which was really good, really good. But what we saw
- 11:23Speaker 3: against Cincinnati was like not not like rookie good, not
- 11:26Speaker 3: first round pick good, but like good good, like regardless
- 11:30Speaker 3: ninety one percent. I mean like it was ridiculous and
- 11:33Speaker 3: it was just the poise. It was fascinated when I
- 11:37Speaker 3: ended up pulling up my reports, like I want to, like,
- 11:40Speaker 3: can we go through it? So? When did you write this?
- 11:42Speaker 2: You wrote this in March last year?
- 11:44Speaker 3: This was This was in January.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Okay, January, right before Senior Bowl. Right at that time.
- 11:50Speaker 2: You've got to write snippets of all the top prospects.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Let's go through the archives. Go, I guess nine months ago,
- 11:58Speaker 1: what did you have on Jaden Daniels?
- 12:00Speaker 2: Go all the good, all the bad. I want to
- 12:02Speaker 2: hear it.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Okay, here we go. Daniels is a tall, lean quarterback
- 12:06Speaker 3: with exceptional accuracy, decision making, and speed. Very poised and
- 12:11Speaker 3: comfortable in the pocket saw that the other night. Likes
- 12:14Speaker 3: to use a rhythm bounce at the top of his
- 12:16Speaker 3: drop before settling his feet into the ground and smoothly
- 12:18Speaker 3: transferring his weight to throw. Extremely quick release, beautiful throwing motion.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Throws with anticipation, touch, and accuracy. He flashes the ability
- 12:26Speaker 3: to manipulate safeties with his eyes to create separation downfield
- 12:30Speaker 3: when he gets pressured, he doesn't hesitate to explode out
- 12:33Speaker 3: of the pocket, has elite suddenness. He's more of a
- 12:35Speaker 3: linear speed runner than a break you down, make mistype
- 12:39Speaker 3: ball carrier. He does need to do a better job
- 12:41Speaker 3: protecting himself, though, as he took some huge shots in
- 12:44Speaker 3: the games I studied. Overall, Daniels took a massive leap
- 12:48Speaker 3: in twenty twenty three and now offers both a high
- 12:51Speaker 3: floor and a high ceiling.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Ooh yeah, I I haven't seen the other part of it.
- 12:59Speaker 3: You know.
- 12:59Speaker 1: It's I have not seen the negative yet because I
- 13:02Speaker 1: agree with you, he's done.
- 13:04Speaker 3: A better job protected himself. He's on a much er
- 13:06Speaker 3: job protecting himself.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Like he's not built like Lamar, he's not built like Tua.
- 13:11Speaker 1: He's not big enough like Josh Allen to take these hits,
- 13:14Speaker 1: and yet he's evaded these hits really well. And these
- 13:18Speaker 1: run option designs that they're doing have been outstanding. I
- 13:23Speaker 1: look at what it is out of the gates. Talk
- 13:24Speaker 1: about fifty five starts in college versus maybe Anthony Richardson
- 13:28Speaker 1: who had thirteen at University of Florida, and what the
- 13:30Speaker 1: difference is and you could see.
- 13:31Speaker 3: It, right, Yeah, you can see it. You can see
- 13:33Speaker 3: it even like with bo Nix the other day. I mean,
- 13:35Speaker 3: who started sixty two games in college? So this is
- 13:38Speaker 3: the This is the lesson that I think I'm trying
- 13:42Speaker 3: to put into practice, and I think people around the
- 13:44Speaker 3: league in the media are starting to pay attention to.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Is that this takes time. Like you can't microwave these
- 13:51Speaker 3: dudes and have them just come out ready to go.
- 13:53Speaker 3: So it's it's just an accumulation of reps. I talk
- 13:56Speaker 3: about the catalog, right, You've got to build the catalog
- 13:58Speaker 3: of plays, of seeing coverages of seeing combinations, and just
- 14:02Speaker 3: you're constantly storing that in your memory bank. So when
- 14:06Speaker 3: you look around the league and now we see you know,
- 14:08Speaker 3: Gino doing his thing, Sam Baker even justin fields, how
- 14:13Speaker 3: much better he looks in Pittsburgh than he looked pously
- 14:15Speaker 3: in Chicago. Yeah, that's all these guys. So did wait
- 14:19Speaker 3: did so what happened?
- 14:20Speaker 1: Then?
- 14:20Speaker 3: Did they all of a sudden regain all the talent
- 14:22Speaker 3: that they had coming out? Like No, They've always had
- 14:24Speaker 3: the talent, they just haven't had that catalog of experience
- 14:27Speaker 3: and back in previous you know, decades, you know, Traykman
- 14:31Speaker 3: was allowed to struggle early on and get the tar
- 14:34Speaker 3: kicked out of him and then kind of grow and
- 14:36Speaker 3: then and then eventually it pays off. Peyton Manning is
- 14:38Speaker 3: allowed to throw a zillion interceptions his first year and
- 14:40Speaker 3: we're not going to freak out and know that he's
- 14:42Speaker 3: just gaining more experience. But to have the the huge
- 14:45Speaker 3: number of starts in college is such an advantage man,
- 14:49Speaker 3: because it's a different game, but it's still reps. You're
- 14:51Speaker 3: still reacting to coverages, you're still seeing things. So I
- 14:56Speaker 3: there's no the guys that have had a lot of
- 14:58Speaker 3: success early and c. J. Stroud's like on his own
- 15:00Speaker 3: island from what he did last year, which was so
- 15:02Speaker 3: unique because he hadn't played a ton at Ohio State.
- 15:04Speaker 3: But Herbert comes into the league have and started a
- 15:07Speaker 3: ton of games. There's you know, Dak comes in even
- 15:10Speaker 3: though he wasn't a high pick, he had played a
- 15:12Speaker 3: ton of football Assissippi State, like a lot of these
- 15:14Speaker 3: guys that have had early success.
- 15:15Speaker 2: DJ brock, Brock Purty played, So.
- 15:21Speaker 3: I think there's definitely something to that, and I think
- 15:23Speaker 3: it's also a cautionary like, hey, we don't need to
- 15:25Speaker 3: throw the other guys out. Let's let the other guys
- 15:27Speaker 3: get the number of starts and get the experience they need.
- 15:29Speaker 3: And unfortunately for them, they're having to learn at the
- 15:31Speaker 3: highest level. Uh, with those reps and with those experiences.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Yeah, and I don't know where the urgency came from,
- 15:37Speaker 1: but it did happen at some point, And maybe it's
- 15:39Speaker 1: the new salary cap where you get them five years
- 15:42Speaker 1: at this cheap price. So it's like, let's get the
- 15:43Speaker 1: most out of them as we can. We can't just
- 15:45Speaker 1: stash them. But when we grew up, I remember Michael
- 15:47Speaker 1: Vick backed up Chris Chandler. I remember Steve McNair backed
- 15:50Speaker 1: up Chris Chandler. And these were top guys.
- 15:52Speaker 3: And rivers behind Drew Brees, no doubt, no doubt, and
- 15:56Speaker 3: Phil Simms backed up Scott.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Brunner, like this is what was what was done. It
- 16:03Speaker 1: was just like understood, like you don't throw a guy
- 16:05Speaker 1: in right away. And yet now I look at guys
- 16:08Speaker 1: like Bryce and Richardson and it's, yeah, it's tough. I
- 16:13Speaker 1: don't know if I'm concerned about Caleb and if it's
- 16:15Speaker 1: too soon, but that offensive line and that offense doesn't
- 16:19Speaker 1: like to be so sturdy as it is in Washington.
- 16:22Speaker 1: What have you thought on Caleb as we were all
- 16:25Speaker 1: over heels for Caleb Williams going into this thing and
- 16:27Speaker 1: it hasn't been one hundred percent perfect.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought going through that process and I had
- 16:32Speaker 3: Caleb over Jayden coming out, and the thought process was
- 16:36Speaker 3: and I said this through the whole spring, which is,
- 16:39Speaker 3: if this is a race, Jayden's going to start ahead
- 16:41Speaker 3: of Caleb. He's just he's further on in his development
- 16:45Speaker 3: at this point in time than where Caleb is. But Caleb,
- 16:47Speaker 3: I think has more in him to eventually have a
- 16:50Speaker 3: higher ceiling. You know, whether he gets there or not,
- 16:52Speaker 3: we'll have to wait and see. And that's why Jayden
- 16:54Speaker 3: I think was a safer pick because of where his
- 16:58Speaker 3: entry point was. But Caleb, I look at these young
- 17:00Speaker 3: guys and I'm like, I get alarmed if I can't
- 17:03Speaker 3: pull out the five to eight plays a game where
- 17:07Speaker 3: I go, okay, that's the good stuff, like and with Caleb,
- 17:10Speaker 3: I've seen that, especially this last.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Three hundred something yards, yeah.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Three hundred and sixty three yards. I think with some
- 17:17Speaker 3: big third downs and fourth downs like that. They they
- 17:20Speaker 3: did some good things there. Now he doesn't have all
- 17:23Speaker 3: the pieces around him that everybody thought he was going
- 17:25Speaker 3: to have. The offensive line is not done well. They
- 17:27Speaker 3: cannot run the ball at all. There's other issues there.
- 17:30Speaker 3: But I think he's I've seen better from him as
- 17:32Speaker 3: we go along, and I'm seeing the good stuff in there,
- 17:35Speaker 3: and maybe in some smaller doses. The Bryce thing is
- 17:37Speaker 3: the one that's concerned me because and I saw him
- 17:40Speaker 3: live a couple of weeks ago against the Chargers and
- 17:42Speaker 3: then studying that, I'm like, man, I'm studying these games
- 17:44Speaker 3: and I'm trying to find those plays, those five to
- 17:47Speaker 3: eight plays, and I'm not seeing them, of those flashes
- 17:50Speaker 3: even that they aren't there. And you know that that
- 17:53Speaker 3: could be an environment thing from what happened last year.
- 17:56Speaker 3: I'm not saying it's irreparable, but it was. There's still
- 17:59Speaker 3: healing that needs to take place there. And maybe that's
- 18:01Speaker 3: part of this, this this idea right here to let
- 18:04Speaker 3: him sit for a little bit.
- 18:05Speaker 2: You just in general, you're a nice guy.
- 18:08Speaker 1: You're also really polished at TV, and you also see
- 18:11Speaker 1: the whole league. You're not one who's privy to like
- 18:14Speaker 1: hot takes and initial like, you know, screaming reactions. I
- 18:19Speaker 1: can go that way, and last week on air, I
- 18:22Speaker 1: felt like I was, you know, caping for the Carolina
- 18:26Speaker 1: Panthers franchise and defending this organization that I have no
- 18:29Speaker 1: ties to. But I'm like canals, he doesn't want to
- 18:32Speaker 1: do this in the third week of the season. Guys,
- 18:34Speaker 1: he doesn't.
- 18:35Speaker 2: There's there's no there's no ulterior motive for them benching
- 18:38Speaker 2: Bryce Young.
- 18:39Speaker 1: This is not what they want. This is absolutely a
- 18:42Speaker 1: move out of need and desperation in that.
- 18:44Speaker 3: They couldn't complete a bubble screen. That was the exit.
- 18:47Speaker 3: That's where I had to get off the highway on
- 18:49Speaker 3: that one when they couldn't complete the bubble screen.
- 18:52Speaker 1: I know a lot of people in our industry don't watch,
- 18:55Speaker 1: and I'm not trying to take shafts, but they don't
- 18:56Speaker 1: watch week to week, and they're certainly not watching Carolina
- 18:59Speaker 1: Panthers LA Chargers, and they're certainly not watching, you know,
- 19:03Speaker 1: the Carolina Panthers lose by fifty in the first of
- 19:06Speaker 1: the season and just get completely blown out.
- 19:08Speaker 2: But I do watch it.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I do talk to folks, and it's like Andy Dalton,
- 19:13Speaker 1: whether we like Bryce or not, because he's a great kid.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Andy Dalton gives has a better chance to win, and
- 19:16Speaker 1: they're fifty two other guys in the locker room and
- 19:18Speaker 1: we got to compete at some point. It can't just
- 19:20Speaker 1: be let's keep trotting out Bryce because it's it's embarrassing.
- 19:23Speaker 1: If he's benched, they go out there, they win, and
- 19:25Speaker 1: it's it's funny. We're now doing this on a Wednesday,
- 19:28Speaker 1: very little Miacopa's in the media about how ridiculous and
- 19:31Speaker 1: stupid the Panthers were for benching Bryce.
- 19:32Speaker 3: You know, yeah, I didn't. I wasn't on the train
- 19:35Speaker 3: saying it was the wrong decision there. I left that
- 19:37Speaker 3: stadium thinking it's going to be hard to maintain the
- 19:39Speaker 3: locker room and move forward presently with Bryce starting right now.
- 19:43Speaker 3: It just it was so bad. It was so bad
- 19:45Speaker 3: the first two weeks. And this is somebody who is
- 19:47Speaker 3: the biggest Bryce young fan coming into the draft, and
- 19:50Speaker 3: I still, you know, I still have hope that it
- 19:52Speaker 3: could work out for him. If not, there somewhere else,
- 19:55Speaker 3: But again, there just hasn't been those you need those
- 19:58Speaker 3: positive nuggets to take out of those games, and they're
- 20:00Speaker 3: warn't any. I mean, it was futile. And the other
- 20:03Speaker 3: thing I said, which Panther fans came at me hard
- 20:05Speaker 3: this week, which is a vocal crew. By the way,
- 20:08Speaker 3: I don't know if they are, they're a very vocal
- 20:11Speaker 3: vocal because I said, it's one of the worst rosters
- 20:15Speaker 3: that I've seen. And that's not the part. That's not
- 20:17Speaker 3: the fault of of Dan Morgan. That's not the fault
- 20:19Speaker 3: there of coach Canalis. Like they're new together in this
- 20:23Speaker 3: new regime, and there's been an exodus of talent out
- 20:27Speaker 3: of that building over the last few years, star level
- 20:29Speaker 3: talent that is left. And I'm just watching them and
- 20:31Speaker 3: I'm going, I don't know. I mean, they can't stop anybody.
- 20:34Speaker 3: The first two games run or pass. They had three
- 20:37Speaker 3: explosive passes in the first two games combined. I think
- 20:39Speaker 3: they had nine with Andy Dalton the other day. So
- 20:42Speaker 3: from what i'd seen the first two weeks, I'm like, guys,
- 20:45Speaker 3: I'm not. Everybody's like you need to apologize. I'm like, well,
- 20:48Speaker 3: I can't see the first two weeks. I didn't watch
- 20:50Speaker 3: those games, like they couldn't do anything. And now this
- 20:54Speaker 3: is another point. This was about two things. This was
- 20:57Speaker 3: about Andy Dalton. Give him his flowers because he threw
- 21:00Speaker 3: on time his backfoot was in the ground, the ball
- 21:02Speaker 3: was gone, so any issues they might have had up front,
- 21:05Speaker 3: he took care of those by just getting the ball
- 21:07Speaker 3: out of his hand. He was excellent. And the other thing,
- 21:09Speaker 3: I'll give Canalis a lot of credit with someone who
- 21:11Speaker 3: I think i've met once, I don't know, I've heard
- 21:14Speaker 3: great things about him. But this was a culture challenge.
- 21:18Speaker 3: This was a test of where this team's going to be.
- 21:21Speaker 3: You've played terrible for two weeks, You've already switched out
- 21:24Speaker 3: the quarterback. How do you respond? And I think for
- 21:26Speaker 3: them to come out and really kind of get after
- 21:28Speaker 3: the Raiders the way they did, I think that's a
- 21:30Speaker 3: tip of the cap to the culture that he's great
- 21:32Speaker 3: in there.
- 21:33Speaker 1: All I needed to see was the reaction in the
- 21:35Speaker 1: locker room. Tepper comes in and the owner, whether he's
- 21:38Speaker 1: everyone loves him or not.
- 21:39Speaker 2: And I don't think many do in the media, and
- 21:41Speaker 2: I don't think many do at home.
- 21:42Speaker 1: He gives the game ball to Canalis and the place explodes,
- 21:46Speaker 1: and it's all about the players, and they're the one
- 21:48Speaker 1: celebrating and celebrating the head coach.
- 21:49Speaker 2: So to me, look, and I know we're all outraged.
- 21:54Speaker 1: We protect these young quarterbacks but like, I had to
- 21:56Speaker 1: take that stand last week and I did it on
- 21:58Speaker 1: my podcast, it on the show and say they know
- 22:00Speaker 1: better than we do, and they don't want to do this.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Guys like they don't want to do this. This, this
- 22:03Speaker 1: doesn't benefit them to do this. They're going out there
- 22:06Speaker 1: on a limb to save the season. All right, back
- 22:07Speaker 1: to Jaden real quick. Yeah, when you were talking to
- 22:11Speaker 1: folks about Jaden going into the sin his path is
- 22:14Speaker 1: interesting Arizona State. But then transfers to Brian Kelly, give
- 22:20Speaker 1: us sort of the history on Jaden if you can
- 22:22Speaker 1: empty the bag a little bit on the football and
- 22:23Speaker 1: then on his path that led him to the NFL,
- 22:27Speaker 1: because I think we can all use a refresher course
- 22:28Speaker 1: because this guy's a sensation right now.
- 22:30Speaker 2: And it's like, wait, well where did he come from?
- 22:32Speaker 3: Yeah? So, first of all, Southern California quarterback. I'm maybe
- 22:35Speaker 3: one hundred and sixty pounds, you know, soaking wet, come
- 22:38Speaker 3: out of high school, but was a highly recruited and
- 22:41Speaker 3: highly regarded recruit coming out through brazillion Yards in Southern California.
- 22:45Speaker 3: He goes to Arizona State, It's a huge get for them.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Early on in his time there he beats Herbert in
- 22:52Speaker 3: Oregon in a huge game. Big upset hits Ayuk, who
- 22:56Speaker 3: was his go to guy on that Arizona State team,
- 22:58Speaker 3: for a big play in that game, but he kind
- 23:00Speaker 3: of flashed on the scene. Well then it starts to
- 23:03Speaker 3: crumble at Arizona State. There's recruiting violations come down, there's
- 23:07Speaker 3: going to be the coaching change. HERM Edwards is out,
- 23:10Speaker 3: so he kind of gets a little bit lost in
- 23:13Speaker 3: the shuffle there. He ends up then transferring to LSU,
- 23:17Speaker 3: and once he gets to LSU, you see the first
- 23:20Speaker 3: year salad and then the second year he explodes. It
- 23:24Speaker 3: felt very much like Joe Burrow from that standpoint of
- 23:27Speaker 3: just seeing settling and then exploding. And that's what he did.
- 23:30Speaker 3: And one of the cool things about it, and this
- 23:32Speaker 3: was written about in the run up to the draft,
- 23:34Speaker 3: but something that I did a lot of homework on
- 23:36Speaker 3: is they have a legend on the l LSU campus
- 23:40Speaker 3: named Jack Marucci. If the name sounds familiar to folks,
- 23:43Speaker 3: if you've heard of Marucci bats, if you've got kids
- 23:45Speaker 3: that play baseball, that's his He He was the trainer,
- 23:48Speaker 3: the athletic trainer at LSU. He wanted to play with
- 23:51Speaker 3: football in the backyard, and he's like, you know, instead
- 23:54Speaker 3: of buying a wood bat, maybe I'll just make my own.
- 23:56Speaker 3: The guy makes his makes his own wood bat, and
- 23:59Speaker 3: so LSU player is a great baseball program there. He
- 24:02Speaker 3: starts making his own bats literally out of his out
- 24:04Speaker 3: of his garage, just for fun for football lo and
- 24:07Speaker 3: Behold likes LSU baseball players start mess around that start
- 24:10Speaker 3: using it. When one of these LSU players ends up
- 24:12Speaker 3: getting in the major leagues and he goes he's with
- 24:14Speaker 3: the Cardinals and goes, hey, you got to bring one
- 24:16Speaker 3: of those bats. I want to show pooholes. So he
- 24:18Speaker 3: ends up pooles ends up swinging this bat. He likes it.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Long story short, he builds a billion dollar industry as
- 24:25Speaker 3: a trainer at LSU is the largest bat manufacturer, overtaking
- 24:29Speaker 3: like Louisville Slugger. Like he's anyways, amazing guy. He's a genius.
- 24:34Speaker 3: So he's also very into tech and cutting edge things,
- 24:38Speaker 3: so he gets into this. He finds a flight simulator
- 24:41Speaker 3: company out of Germany that puts on these headsets that
- 24:45Speaker 3: it's like VR on steroids. It's VR with an AI
- 24:48Speaker 3: component to it. And then he develops the software. They're
- 24:52Speaker 3: able to dump the opposing stadiums in the sec of
- 24:55Speaker 3: everybody that they're going to play, so you can look
- 24:57Speaker 3: around and it looks like you're in there, where the
- 24:59Speaker 3: shot clock or where the play clock is, everything's identical.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Then you're able to dump your entire offensive playbook in there.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Then you're then you're able to take the team you're playing.
- 25:10Speaker 3: So you've got Mississippi State this week. They can take
- 25:13Speaker 3: all the tendencies. Okay, when you go three by one,
- 25:16Speaker 3: three receivers on one side, one on the other, they're in.
- 25:18Speaker 3: They're in this coverage seventy percent of the time. So
- 25:21Speaker 3: they put they dump all this information in and then
- 25:24Speaker 3: you can then he can then get reps during the week,
- 25:27Speaker 3: Jayden Daniels was doing so Jade Saniels basically like coming
- 25:31Speaker 3: under in like, Okay, this is the play that I've called,
- 25:33Speaker 3: so I know the play. Okay, we snapped the ball. Okay,
- 25:36Speaker 3: at the snap of the ball, what they do their
- 25:38Speaker 3: safeties rotate, So I'm seeing all this and then I
- 25:40Speaker 3: can know where I want to go with the football.
- 25:42Speaker 3: You're not like physically going through anything. You're just you're
- 25:44Speaker 3: mentally repping these things. So this is something that he
- 25:48Speaker 3: got into heavy. And then Jack had told me that
- 25:52Speaker 3: through this process, he started to say, okay, can we
- 25:55Speaker 3: crank the speed up? So, okay, now I've got to
- 25:58Speaker 3: want to play faster. He wants it faster. So they
- 26:01Speaker 3: let's try one point one, Like if you think about
- 26:03Speaker 3: listening to a podcast, Now let's go one point two.
- 26:05Speaker 3: By the end of the year, he was at one
- 26:07Speaker 3: point five. So he's getting say, let's just throw the
- 26:11Speaker 3: number out there. So in a game you're going to
- 26:13Speaker 3: have offensively in college, you have seventy five snaps. He's
- 26:17Speaker 3: played those seventy five snaps, run all those plays, seen
- 26:20Speaker 3: all those coverages in that environment maybe a thousand times
- 26:23Speaker 3: during the week. And oh, by the way, he's seen
- 26:24Speaker 3: him at one point six speed, so when you get
- 26:27Speaker 3: to the game, it looks like it's completely slowed down.
- 26:31Speaker 3: So this has been a key, and he's been he's
- 26:34Speaker 3: been adamant about how this has helped him. So fast
- 26:37Speaker 3: forward in the draft process, teams knew, whoever drafts Jayden
- 26:43Speaker 3: is going to be able to take this tech with him,
- 26:45Speaker 3: They're going to be able to take this this VR
- 26:47Speaker 3: stuff with them. So and then other teams had went
- 26:49Speaker 3: down there, like New England had gone down there LSU
- 26:51Speaker 3: and met and studied all this stuff. So I think
- 26:54Speaker 3: there's I think there's a handful of teams that have
- 26:55Speaker 3: it in the NFL right now. They're restrictive on who
- 26:57Speaker 3: has it, but Washington is definitely one of them. And
- 27:01Speaker 3: he still incorporates this. So if you're watching Jade Daniels,
- 27:03Speaker 3: it looks like he's cool, calm and collected in the pocket,
- 27:05Speaker 3: like it's slow motion. Well it is in slow motion
- 27:08Speaker 3: because he's been playing this thing at a faster speed
- 27:11Speaker 3: a hoy long.
- 27:13Speaker 1: He's had Trey Hendrickson breathing on him, He's had Dexter
- 27:16Speaker 1: Lawrence bred He's already seen it in one point five.
- 27:19Speaker 1: That's fascinating. I also you cover this and you know
- 27:24Speaker 1: the key characters like Cameron Taylor Brick came out and
- 27:29Speaker 1: was like, it's a college offense that they run.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Like talk about.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Cliff's offense because I can tell you as a as
- 27:36Speaker 1: a person who talks to Cliff often that he's like, no,
- 27:38Speaker 1: this kid is fearless, this kid is aggressive. This kid
- 27:42Speaker 1: makes all the smart decisions. And during the summer he
- 27:45Speaker 1: was the guy and it's so cliche, but he's first
- 27:47Speaker 1: in last out And I do my breakout players list
- 27:50Speaker 1: and I put Jad in Daniel's number one. Everyone's like, duh,
- 27:52Speaker 1: he's a number two overall pick. I'm like, no, no, no,
- 27:54Speaker 1: I think he's gonna take over the league. Like I
- 27:56Speaker 1: think he's that sensational and Cliff's been raving about him.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Why was this the perfect fit from a football standpoint,
- 28:01Speaker 1: as you for someone with a front office personnel that like, oh,
- 28:04Speaker 1: you have an offensive coordinator who can actually build an
- 28:07Speaker 1: offense around this guy. Because they're both kind of cutting
- 28:09Speaker 1: edge with how they play and how they think.
- 28:11Speaker 3: Well, I think people think of Cliff as like Texas
- 28:13Speaker 3: Tech Cliff, and it's like, first of all, Cliff's been
- 28:15Speaker 3: the head coach in the NFL, Cliff played in the NFL.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Cliff has plenty of bona fides when it comes to
- 28:20Speaker 3: credentials of NFL football and not taking some hokey high
- 28:24Speaker 3: school offense and rolling it out there at the NFL level.
- 28:28Speaker 3: There's some complexity to it, but he's creative. So when
- 28:31Speaker 3: you have somebody that's creative and someone who knows how
- 28:33Speaker 3: to maximize the skills as a player, that he has.
- 28:35Speaker 3: That's a great combination and your experience is the best teacher.
- 28:39Speaker 3: The guy's coach, Mahomes, the guy's coach Kyler Murray. He
- 28:43Speaker 3: knows how to utilize a skill set that's pretty special
- 28:46Speaker 3: that what Jayden has. And you know, if you just
- 28:49Speaker 3: want Jayden to just sit there and just let's just
- 28:51Speaker 3: play drop back football the whole time, I think defensive
- 28:54Speaker 3: coordinators would send you a thank you note. They're figuring
- 28:57Speaker 3: out ways to stress stress teams and using him especially
- 29:01Speaker 3: in third downs, being able to incorporate him as a runner,
- 29:04Speaker 3: and then really working with him on protecting himself in
- 29:07Speaker 3: that way. You're going to see it. You're going to
- 29:09Speaker 3: see it as we go throughout the year. Like if
- 29:11Speaker 3: you watch the Cowboy Game of the Day, Derek Henry
- 29:14Speaker 3: has an unbelievable game that Raven's got Deterrek Henry going,
- 29:16Speaker 3: I'm like, you know how many times you have to
- 29:17Speaker 3: block the backside end when Lamar Jackson's your quarterback zero
- 29:21Speaker 3: because you have to account for him. It's going to
- 29:23Speaker 3: be a multiplier effect for everybody else in that run game.
- 29:26Speaker 3: And Jade's not going to have to carry it fifteen
- 29:28Speaker 3: times to have a major impact on the run game
- 29:30Speaker 3: because your tackle and tight end is going to just
- 29:31Speaker 3: be like, no oh, I don't worry about blocking him.
- 29:33Speaker 3: He's got to stay home because he could pull it.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 29:36Speaker 1: It's it's the threat of the run that's almost worse
- 29:38Speaker 1: than the run itself. I also would say that this kid,
- 29:42Speaker 1: you don't see that at a rookie third game, screaming
- 29:44Speaker 1: at the sidelines. Let's get to play in like he's
- 29:47Speaker 1: got a he's got a thing about it.
- 29:49Speaker 3: What's interesting about that. It's interesting about that is with
- 29:52Speaker 3: young quarterbacks, and this is some of the things people
- 29:55Speaker 3: don't don't realize of, like, gosh, I don't know why
- 29:57Speaker 3: this guy's not why is this not working. Here's one
- 29:59Speaker 3: thing I can tell you a story I won't tell
- 30:01Speaker 3: who it is, of a rookie quarterback who had a
- 30:04Speaker 3: very was in a very verbose offense. So the language
- 30:08Speaker 3: is long. So the trickle down effect was he's new
- 30:13Speaker 3: to the NFL. You're new to and this is a
- 30:15Speaker 3: long play calls, so you're trying to hear the play
- 30:18Speaker 3: call on your helmet. It's taking you a minute to
- 30:20Speaker 3: process that then spit it out. Now I get to
- 30:23Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage. My headset's cut off because I
- 30:25Speaker 3: haven't got up there in enough time for still have
- 30:28Speaker 3: a voice in my ear. Think about McVeigh, what he
- 30:30Speaker 3: would do with golf right to be able to help
- 30:31Speaker 3: him and get in his headset. Well, that's out because
- 30:33Speaker 3: I'm late getting to the line of scrimmage. I don't
- 30:35Speaker 3: even have time to really survey the defense, and I've
- 30:37Speaker 3: got can't have the cards.
- 30:39Speaker 2: In the NFL on the sideline they don't have yet.
- 30:41Speaker 3: So that all of a sudden, you think about like
- 30:44Speaker 3: guys feeling rushed and hurried and not feeling comfortable employsed.
- 30:48Speaker 3: Some of that can be Well, the freaking play call
- 30:50Speaker 3: is so dang long that they can't get that out,
- 30:52Speaker 3: and it's like that doesn't show up on a box
- 30:54Speaker 3: score of the challenges that some of the young quarterbacks face.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, we did quarterbacks. I was gonna talk
- 31:02Speaker 1: Boone Nicks a little bit, Drake May. We don't have to.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Let's move on real quick. Because we were for the draft.
- 31:07Speaker 1: We all knew there were three wide receivers and maybe
- 31:11Speaker 1: four if you wanted to consider Brian Thomas. He was
- 31:13Speaker 1: in the conversation living but we all knew there'd be
- 31:15Speaker 1: three in the top fifteen, and all three of them
- 31:18Speaker 1: have had big games already in the NFL. And Marvin Harrison,
- 31:21Speaker 1: Milik Neighbors, and of course Roma Dunes. They had his
- 31:24Speaker 1: breakout game in Week three early on. Though Neighbors leads
- 31:28Speaker 1: the NFL in targets, he's second in catches, and he's
- 31:31Speaker 1: first in receiving touchdowns. This could be a breakout start
- 31:34Speaker 1: in a way that maybe we didn't even anticipate. As
- 31:36Speaker 1: much as we loved him coming out of college. Your
- 31:38Speaker 1: initial thoughts on Milik Neighbors in New York and could
- 31:41Speaker 1: this guy be that next next dude.
- 31:45Speaker 3: I'll tell you first of all, this was a fantasy
- 31:47Speaker 3: football strategy that paid off for me this year, Shrikes.
- 31:49Speaker 3: So my starting quarterback in fantasy football is Jaden Daniels.
- 31:54Speaker 3: My receivers are Mileak Neighbors, Marvin Harrison, and DK Metcalf,
- 31:58Speaker 3: and we're having a heck of a start. My Tidy
- 31:59Speaker 3: d brought powers went, I went reused. There was everybody's like,
- 32:03Speaker 3: you can't take I'm like, no, no, no, look at this,
- 32:05Speaker 3: look at these And I loved Dons. I love a Dunesay.
- 32:08Speaker 3: He was my second receiver in the draft. One of
- 32:10Speaker 3: my favorite players, and you saw him go off last week.
- 32:12Speaker 3: But there's a lot of mouths there in Chicago. But
- 32:15Speaker 3: like if you look at neighbors, it is he is
- 32:17Speaker 3: the number one. There is a gap, there is a valley,
- 32:20Speaker 3: and then there is another valley, and then there's another gap,
- 32:23Speaker 3: and then there's who they can throw to next. He
- 32:24Speaker 3: is the guy, point blank. Marvin is Is is going
- 32:28Speaker 3: to be the one early with Arizona. He's their most
- 32:32Speaker 3: talented guy. So these are guys that went in the
- 32:33Speaker 3: door as number one wideouts, which is hard to do.
- 32:36Speaker 3: But Malik is Malik is different than those guys. When
- 32:39Speaker 3: you watch him on NFL tape, He's got just so
- 32:43Speaker 3: much twitch and so much juice. Man, Like the change
- 32:46Speaker 3: of direction, stuff's insane.
- 32:47Speaker 2: But that touchdown catch, I felt like he was six
- 32:49Speaker 2: foot ten.
- 32:50Speaker 3: I know, he got up and he can go up
- 32:52Speaker 3: and get it, get your feet down and then just
- 32:55Speaker 3: the but even just in and out. Watch him get
- 32:57Speaker 3: in out of cuts, watch him just throw him a
- 32:59Speaker 3: hitch route and watch him wheel out the back door.
- 33:01Speaker 3: He can go from static to top speed like that,
- 33:04Speaker 3: like it is. It is dynamic. But I mean, look,
- 33:07Speaker 3: Marvin i've seen Marvin. Last week was the best he's looked,
- 33:10Speaker 3: even though the numbers were better the week before. You're
- 33:13Speaker 3: starting to see, Okay, I'm starting to see some of
- 33:14Speaker 3: the nuanced stuff that I saw in college. He's starting
- 33:17Speaker 3: to get a little more comfortable. We know the size,
- 33:19Speaker 3: the physicality people were. Do you talk about in an
- 33:22Speaker 3: overreaction society? We had cherry picking, well, we had people
- 33:26Speaker 3: cherry pick picking his mph numbers from the first week
- 33:29Speaker 3: of the GPS numbers, and I'm like, guys, he was
- 33:31Speaker 3: at Ohio Stadium with twenty two miles per hour like this,
- 33:33Speaker 3: He's fine, He's not a slow poke. He's gonna be okay.
- 33:37Speaker 3: But all three of those guys are going to be
- 33:38Speaker 3: outstanding and a Dunesday's super, super instinctive, super tough. It
- 33:43Speaker 3: was good to see him get going last week. But
- 33:45Speaker 3: Bowers has been has come out the gates hot as well.
- 33:48Speaker 3: So those are all kind of the marquee guys. We
- 33:50Speaker 3: felt like we watched those guys in college for a
- 33:52Speaker 3: long time, and I think the transition is a little
- 33:56Speaker 3: easier at the receiver position than maybe it was ten
- 33:58Speaker 3: fifteen years ago.
- 34:00Speaker 1: All Right, I'm gonna let you go. But before we
- 34:01Speaker 1: do so, and it saysn't do you any advantage putting
- 34:04Speaker 1: your name on anything because you're not.
- 34:05Speaker 2: But just give us a couple names.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Now, Look, anyone can go and google online a mock draft,
- 34:11Speaker 1: but it's not the mock draft until we're done with
- 34:14Speaker 1: college football.
- 34:15Speaker 2: We usually have to be done with the bulls season.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Then we get to like senior ball, and then you'll
- 34:19Speaker 1: put out your top fifty list and I'm like, all right,
- 34:21Speaker 1: the Bible's out. Now we're gonna go look at this,
- 34:23Speaker 1: and now we can go from there. Are there some
- 34:25Speaker 1: names if you're an NFL fan who happens to casually
- 34:29Speaker 1: watch college or a college fan that loves it but
- 34:31Speaker 1: doesn't necessarily have the eye for NFL talent, give me
- 34:35Speaker 1: some names that you would watch on Saturdays that might
- 34:38Speaker 1: show up in the first round of next year's draft.
- 34:41Speaker 3: Well, look, I'll give you just a couple of quarterbacks.
- 34:44Speaker 3: One that everybody knows and is talking about, another one
- 34:46Speaker 3: that everybody is going to talk about more as we
- 34:48Speaker 3: go through the process. Let's start with Jackson Dart from
- 34:51Speaker 3: Old Miss Jackson d Dart. Jackson Dart, you want to
- 34:55Speaker 3: talk about it? First of all, it's a phenomenal quarterback name.
- 34:59Speaker 1: You get born as Jackson Dart, Like you got two jobs.
- 35:01Speaker 1: You can either be a firefighter or you're gonna be
- 35:03Speaker 1: a quarterback. That's like you're only two gigs. That's all
- 35:06Speaker 1: it is.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Yeah, one hundred percent. Like if you're also, if your
- 35:09Speaker 3: name happens to be like Cannon, I think you're you
- 35:11Speaker 3: can't play receivers. But he his story is gonna be
- 35:16Speaker 3: one that's gonna be fun to dig into as we
- 35:17Speaker 3: get to the draft. He was at USC coaching, change happens,
- 35:21Speaker 3: Lincoln comes, Caleb comes, Jackson's like, well, I'm not sitting
- 35:25Speaker 3: around here for this, so he he bails. He had
- 35:28Speaker 3: opportunity to go to Oklahoma or to Old miss That
- 35:31Speaker 3: was his decision.
- 35:33Speaker 2: What did Lane come in with. What was the pitch?
- 35:35Speaker 3: Well, I think the pitch is I'm gonna recruit I'm
- 35:38Speaker 3: already recruiting really well and I'm going to continue to
- 35:41Speaker 3: recruit well and with the with transfer portal just getting
- 35:44Speaker 3: going at this time, an il just getting going at
- 35:46Speaker 3: this time. Football matters in Oxford, Mississippi. UH they are
- 35:50Speaker 3: committed to it. They have a very aggressive NIL program
- 35:54Speaker 3: and Lane is an outstanding developer of quarterbacks and an
- 35:57Speaker 3: excellent play caller. So he ended up winning the day
- 35:59Speaker 3: there he gets him and now in this this is
- 36:02Speaker 3: third year, he's just gotten better and better and better,
- 36:04Speaker 3: and now all of a sudden, you look up. He's
- 36:06Speaker 3: he's got a live arm. He's incredibly tough as a runner,
- 36:10Speaker 3: like he's got a ton of production as a runner.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Is Everything I hear about him at the school is about,
- 36:16Speaker 3: you know, leadership and how I mean I think there's
- 36:19Speaker 3: number three in the country. They're going to be in
- 36:20Speaker 3: the playoff this year. You live at their schedule, the
- 36:22Speaker 3: SEC they'll be in the playoff, you'll see him. He's
- 36:23Speaker 3: got the he's got the paint kind of over the
- 36:25Speaker 3: eye thing that's going on, like a brave heart type
- 36:30Speaker 3: vibe going on. Is he a great throw I would
- 36:34Speaker 3: say good. I would say getting better every year. Armstrength, fine,
- 36:38Speaker 3: accuracy has gotten much better this year. And they haven't
- 36:40Speaker 3: played many talented teams yet, so we'll see as they
- 36:43Speaker 3: get into some of the SEC play. But he's he's
- 36:45Speaker 3: really he's really intriguing. And the other one, I'm telling you,
- 36:48Speaker 3: we're gonna this is going to be the the face
- 36:50Speaker 3: of this draft, it's we're going to be talking about
- 36:52Speaker 3: Shooter Sanders and there's going to bed. If you're going
- 36:55Speaker 3: to be people, there's going to be people.
- 36:57Speaker 1: What do you think they'll give me an initial thought?
- 36:59Speaker 1: Because I've heard people say not a first round pick.
- 37:01Speaker 1: That others tell me, no, that guy's a top five pick.
- 37:03Speaker 3: So I did him over the summer and I thought,
- 37:07Speaker 3: like twenty five to thirty five hype type, you know,
- 37:11Speaker 3: like Okay, Bordline and what happens anytime we're having this conversation,
- 37:14Speaker 3: like last year at the beginning of the process, bo
- 37:16Speaker 3: Nicks would have been twenty five to thirty five. Those
- 37:18Speaker 3: guys all they all, they're all gonna move up as
- 37:21Speaker 3: we go through the process. But I think there's people
- 37:25Speaker 3: in the media that are not going to like him,
- 37:27Speaker 3: just you know, for his dad and everything that the
- 37:31Speaker 3: attention that Colorado has gotten wherever anybody feels about that
- 37:35Speaker 3: there and then there's there's gonna be some people in
- 37:37Speaker 3: the league, maybe some more of the old school people
- 37:39Speaker 3: that are gonna feel the same way. But I'm telling you,
- 37:41Speaker 3: I talk to an assistant general manager the other day
- 37:43Speaker 3: that had just seen him play live, and it's like
- 37:45Speaker 3: people gonna say whatever they want to say about that kid.
- 37:47Speaker 3: He is tough as crap, and I said that when
- 37:49Speaker 3: I watched him over the summer. He hangs in there.
- 37:51Speaker 3: He takes a beating. Now he holds the ball a
- 37:53Speaker 3: little too much, takes too many sacks. But he can
- 37:56Speaker 3: throw the ball at all three levels. He's got a
- 37:58Speaker 3: beautiful motion. He can drive the ball, he can layer
- 38:01Speaker 3: the ball. He's you know, they're playing Baylor. He completes
- 38:04Speaker 3: a Hail Mary at the buzzer, no down on the
- 38:06Speaker 3: end of winning that game in overtime. So there's something there.
- 38:08Speaker 3: There's substance there. Like some people that's there's all you know,
- 38:11Speaker 3: all sizzle, no steak, all hat and no cattle, whatever
- 38:13Speaker 3: analogy you want to use. The dude can throw. He
- 38:16Speaker 3: can really really throw the ball.
- 38:17Speaker 1: I like what you say about going to be toughness
- 38:19Speaker 1: because the toughness is important to me, especially when you're
- 38:21Speaker 1: making to the leap. And he takes a beating at Colorado,
- 38:24Speaker 1: like I'm watching, he evades a lot of it. But
- 38:26Speaker 1: I watched those games. I watched the Colorado State game.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Then I watched this game against Baylor, and he's under
- 38:32Speaker 1: duress and He's making tough, tough passes and he's completing them,
- 38:35Speaker 1: and he's doing them to just guys, not just Travis Hunter.
- 38:37Speaker 1: He's throwing the ball around the yard to a bunch
- 38:39Speaker 1: of different guys. I think he's really good too, NFL wise, though,
- 38:42Speaker 1: I'm not at that point yet where I can grade him.
- 38:45Speaker 1: But you do this for a living. You have him
- 38:47Speaker 1: in the first round, maybe even top ten.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Well, I it's so early in the process. I haven't
- 38:52Speaker 3: dug into this all yet. I've watched the tape from
- 38:55Speaker 3: the summer from last year, and I've seen him just
- 38:57Speaker 3: TV scouting, so I'm reluctant to put that on him.
- 39:00Speaker 3: But i just know, you know, if you're looking at
- 39:03Speaker 3: a quarterback, can this guy be an NFL quarterback? Can
- 39:06Speaker 3: this guy every throw? Absolutely? There's no question there. And
- 39:10Speaker 3: it's just because of who he is. He's gonna be
- 39:12Speaker 3: the face of the draft. It's going to be the
- 39:14Speaker 3: talk of the town. So that's just something to get
- 39:16Speaker 3: ready for it.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Let me ask you one last player and then we'll
- 39:20Speaker 1: get out of here. Travis Hunter. He plays about one
- 39:22Speaker 1: hundred snaps. I was talking with Charles Woodson on Saturday,
- 39:26Speaker 1: and I'm like, we are watching. It was after the
- 39:28Speaker 1: Michigan game, and I'm like, you know, this Hunter, he
- 39:30Speaker 1: plays every snap he's good.
- 39:32Speaker 2: And Woodson's like.
- 39:33Speaker 1: I played twenty maybe thirty snaps of offense during the year.
- 39:38Speaker 1: He plays that every game Like there this this is
- 39:42Speaker 1: a real unicorn.
- 39:43Speaker 2: This kid.
- 39:44Speaker 3: Yeah. I did him again over the summer and I
- 39:47Speaker 3: actually had a lot of I was surprised how much
- 39:48Speaker 3: pushback I got because from the from the media side,
- 39:51Speaker 3: the team side, actually everything I heard was was identical.
- 39:54Speaker 3: I wrote him up as a receiver. Okay, is real.
- 39:57Speaker 3: He is really skinny. He's real thin, but he is
- 40:00Speaker 3: so good with the ball in his hands. He's so
- 40:02Speaker 3: explosive and smooth and slithery. I compared him Garrett Wilson,
- 40:07Speaker 3: That's who he reminded me of. And go play above,
- 40:10Speaker 3: play above the rim, do all those things. I think
- 40:12Speaker 3: Garrett's fast, a little faster than him, but he's that
- 40:16Speaker 3: type of instinctive feel just a football player that way
- 40:21Speaker 3: at corner and some of it because he's playing a
- 40:22Speaker 3: million snaps. But you can watch a Stanford game last year.
- 40:25Speaker 3: He got beat up pretty good in that game at corner.
- 40:28Speaker 3: So I want I know, and yeah, I just want him.
- 40:32Speaker 3: I would write him up as a receiver. And if
- 40:34Speaker 3: I'm Travis Hunter, and I'm sure whenever he decides on
- 40:38Speaker 3: an agent, and whenever that goes down, I'm gonna do
- 40:40Speaker 3: a couple of things. I'm gonna say, Okay, can I
- 40:41Speaker 3: see the top ten salaries for the top ten corners
- 40:43Speaker 3: in the league? Now show me the top ten salaries
- 40:45Speaker 3: of the top ten wide receivers in the mart. One
- 40:47Speaker 3: of these list is not like the other. Travis, Yep, yep.
- 40:51Speaker 1: I got to go to a random game. It's actually
- 40:54Speaker 1: a long story. It's kind of cute. My son fell
- 40:57Speaker 1: in love with Michigan last year during their run. My
- 41:00Speaker 1: wife went there. I had never been to the Big House.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Of course, your program's been to the Big House. I
- 41:06Speaker 1: had never been to the Big House. You went to
- 41:08Speaker 1: Appalachian State for the listeners. Uh. I've wanted to pick
- 41:11Speaker 1: a weekend where it would probably be a win. I
- 41:13Speaker 1: also wanted to pick a weekend whereas an early game
- 41:15Speaker 1: because I had to fly to LA afterwards. We went
- 41:17Speaker 1: to the Arkansas State game and took my wife, took
- 41:20Speaker 1: a couple of my son's friends, and we had an
- 41:23Speaker 1: absolute blast. Big House was great, and I spoke to
- 41:26Speaker 1: people at the Michigan program and before the game, I'm
- 41:28Speaker 1: talking to the folks on the sideline.
- 41:30Speaker 2: I'm like, who do I watch? Are like?
- 41:31Speaker 1: Will Johnson's the guy, yeah, big I fell in love with.
- 41:37Speaker 1: He's got two pick six's and I think you know
- 41:40Speaker 1: he's wearing that Charles Woodson number two. Will Johnson. Is
- 41:43Speaker 1: he on boards yet? Because I he's a lock. He's
- 41:48Speaker 1: a locked, top five lock like that high he's the top.
- 41:52Speaker 3: I would say top fifteen is a conservative. Yes. At
- 41:55Speaker 3: this point in the process. They've got They've got a
- 41:58Speaker 3: bunch of us man.
- 41:59Speaker 2: They do. They got the big gend THET.
- 42:03Speaker 3: They got another d tackle as well. They're good. That
- 42:06Speaker 3: was a breaky you went to the SC game because
- 42:08Speaker 3: I was watching that in the hotel and what a
- 42:10Speaker 3: great game in credible.
- 42:12Speaker 2: Game and they just watching that game.
- 42:15Speaker 3: I get on the I get on the elevator and
- 42:17Speaker 3: it's it's Ben Herbert, the Straint coach. Uh. All the
- 42:21Speaker 3: Michigan guys. Oh they were exhausted. I think they were exhausted.
- 42:26Speaker 1: So funny see that's Harbos crew. And then I was
- 42:28Speaker 1: getting a text. I got a text from Mike McDonald
- 42:30Speaker 1: who's the head coach in Seattle. And he's a Michigan
- 42:32Speaker 1: guy too. Those Michigan guys, they're all over the NFL
- 42:36Speaker 1: game they did. All right, I'm gonna let you go
- 42:39Speaker 1: right now, Daniel. I so appreciate it. Where can we
- 42:41Speaker 1: find you on Sundays? Because I will click the Oudyssey
- 42:44Speaker 1: app or the iHeart Happy are And then during the week,
- 42:48Speaker 1: of course, you and Bucky do the move the stick stuff.
- 42:50Speaker 2: So where can we find you?
- 42:51Speaker 3: Yeah, on Sundays? If this is way too much effort
- 42:54Speaker 3: for people, But if the Chargers are at home, I'll
- 42:56Speaker 3: be in studio uh for game day morning, So I
- 42:58Speaker 3: pop in there and do some hits on that and
- 43:00Speaker 3: then call, then walk across the street call the games
- 43:02Speaker 3: for Charges Radio with Matt money Smith. So yeah, if
- 43:04Speaker 3: you're driving around, you're flipping through the flip into the stations,
- 43:07Speaker 3: you'll stumble across my voice a little bit on there
- 43:09Speaker 3: calling Charger game. So and then then in the sixth podcast,
- 43:12Speaker 3: we're five days a week, Shrags, We're five days a week,
- 43:14Speaker 3: five days a week, five days a week. Buddy, they're
- 43:16Speaker 3: making this work over here, man.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Trust me, I know. God bless you, my friend. You're
- 43:21Speaker 2: the best.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Daniel Jeremiah, awesome as always, thank you.
- 43:24Speaker 2: For joining the season with Peter Schreger.
- 43:26Speaker 3: Good to see bro.
- 43:33Speaker 2: That was incredible.
- 43:35Speaker 1: We love getting in touch with Daniel Jeremiah now in
- 43:37Speaker 1: the process. But also to look back on his stuff,
- 43:41Speaker 1: that scouting report on Jaden Daniels could not have been
- 43:44Speaker 1: more spot on. If anything, he might have raised some
- 43:46Speaker 1: red flags that have not come to fruition yet. Also
- 43:50Speaker 1: the Shador Sanders thing, this is going to be all
- 43:52Speaker 1: we talk about January, February, March, right into April. I'm
- 43:56Speaker 1: telling you this now, everybody get ready. And I like
- 43:59Speaker 1: how Daniel kind of straddles it here, like I think
- 44:01Speaker 1: he could be twenty five that or higher or go up.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Like that's where we're at.
- 44:06Speaker 1: And I think it's going to be the biggest name
- 44:07Speaker 1: and the topic of conversation throughout the draft process. That's
- 44:11Speaker 1: why we love it. And it's almost here, believe it
- 44:14Speaker 1: or not. A lot of teams are already thinking quarterback
- 44:16Speaker 1: after just three weeks of football this season. Every week
- 44:20Speaker 1: on this program we do a shout out to our sponsor,
- 44:23Speaker 1: Uber Eats, and this is time for delivering results presented
- 44:27Speaker 1: by Ubers.
- 44:27Speaker 3: It Eats.
- 44:28Speaker 2: I give out a Player of the Week award.
- 44:30Speaker 1: It goes without saying, Jaden Daniels is my winner of
- 44:33Speaker 1: the award. Daniels went twenty one of twenty three ninety
- 44:37Speaker 1: one percent completion percentage, went on the road into a
- 44:40Speaker 1: hostile environment, and took care of a hungry, hungry Cincinnati
- 44:44Speaker 1: Bengals defense every single time he got on the field.
- 44:47Speaker 1: That was six possessions, five touchdowns, one field goal. Jaden
- 44:51Speaker 1: Daniels just a rookie, and yet he is the winner
- 44:54Speaker 1: of the Delivering Results Award, presented by Uber Eats, where
- 44:58Speaker 1: you can get almost almost anything for game day. It's
- 45:01Speaker 1: the official on demand delivery partner of the NFL. You
- 45:03Speaker 1: can order now that was presented by Uber eats. It
- 45:06Speaker 1: almost almost anything for a game day, great week ahead,
- 45:11Speaker 1: great games. I might be attending one. I'm in La
- 45:16Speaker 1: on Sunday Chiefs Chargers. I gotta do the Fox pregame.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Can I skid that all over to the stadium. I
- 45:23Speaker 1: would like to go as a fan. I think I'm
- 45:25Speaker 1: gonna buy a ticket just on like one of the sites.
- 45:28Speaker 1: I don't want to say a site that we're not
- 45:29Speaker 1: partners with on this podcast. I'm not sure if you
- 45:31Speaker 1: like their partners on every podcast all these different sites,
- 45:33Speaker 1: but I might just buy a ticket. If you see
- 45:35Speaker 1: me at so far, say what's up. I always like
- 45:38Speaker 1: to see my homes in person, and I have never
- 45:41Speaker 1: seen Justin Herbert in person. Sadly I won't be seeing
