- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by CQ Business episode 398.
- 0:19I'll be your host Kyle Corey. And I'm here with my Co host,
- 0:22Nate Reyes Knight. What just happened?
- 0:35What is what's going on, man? I got it.
- 0:38Somebody wake me up. I'll let me just get this out of
- 0:41the way because I know it's coming.
- 0:45I got to eat a lot of crow. You do?
- 0:47OK. I got to eat a lot of crow.
- 0:50You sure do. Just the ones off the top of my
- 0:53head. The the Sharpie bit comes to
- 0:57mind. Yeah.
- 1:00Putting the Phillies in the World Series, to be fair.
- 1:03To be fair, I said that more with the Brave series in mind
- 1:10because I knew that's where it was headed.
- 1:12Sure, sure. I I would venture to say 9 out
- 1:16of 10 Americans, three out of four dentists, would not have
- 1:20recommended nor seen the Diamondbacks being the final
- 1:26hurdle that the Phillies would have needed to get past to get
- 1:28to the World Series. So I'm not.
- 1:31I'm not. I'm not giving myself a pass
- 1:34there. I'm just adding context to the
- 1:37situation. Still have to eat that though.
- 1:42You know, While I personally still believe it on paper, the
- 1:47whole Citizens Bank home field advantage did not did not play
- 1:51out the way I think a lot of people were anticipating it
- 1:55would. So I got to take the hit for
- 1:58that. If I think of others throughout
- 2:01the episode, I'll be sure to acknowledge them.
- 2:03But. I mean, you know what, I'm sure
- 2:06we'll get into numbers, but you know, you've been a, you've been
- 2:09a a big, big Trey Turner guy and well.
- 2:16Yeah, just not a great series overall.
- 2:22Not a great series. I'm not going to sit.
- 2:25Here in season, like I'm yeah, I'm.
- 2:27I'm not. I mean I've been.
- 2:28I've been wrong more this postseason, I feel like, than
- 2:31any postseason ever. Everyone knows that.
- 2:36Like I'm the baseball guy at work and they're all coming up
- 2:38to me and asking predictions and stuff.
- 2:40And I've been wrong. I've been wrong.
- 2:44Just wrong. Said it on the pod the other
- 2:47day. I thought the Astros were going
- 2:48to immediately win it in game six.
- 2:50That didn't happen. I never gave the Diamondbacks a
- 2:55second thought. I never even imagined this
- 2:59outcome. The Wild Card series, we were
- 3:04rolling our eyes, going the Diamondbacks like that.
- 3:09If they would have matched up against the Phillies in the Wild
- 3:12Card series, like we're like, OK, that'd have been great.
- 3:14And then it ended up be the Marlins.
- 3:16But we're like, OK, well, let's just set the D backs to the side
- 3:20because there's other more important teams we have to worry
- 3:22about right now. And to your point, I don't think
- 3:25either of us really. I mean, we weren't.
- 3:28I don't think we were ragging on them, but we weren't giving them
- 3:31the credit they seemingly were due.
- 3:33I I let's let's just relax a little bit.
- 3:36I don't think everyone was. I think we were in the majority
- 3:41of people that overlooked what they were capable of.
- 3:45This is wild. Like, I, I, I, I don't know
- 3:50what's this postseason is about. I don't understand.
- 3:54What's the lesson here? What are we?
- 3:56What are we needing to learn? This is why you have to.
- 4:02I mean it's as cliche as the sounds is why you have to play
- 4:05the games like you have to play. Yeah.
- 4:10But it and I know I can't and it's purely because the game
- 4:14ended mere minutes ago that I feel like I'm I'm focusing or
- 4:18I'm kind of honing in on this Phillies D back series we'll get
- 4:20to we'll get to both obviously. But it.
- 4:24I don't know man. It's a weird it's a weird place
- 4:28to be as a baseball fan because part of you if if you're if
- 4:32you're a neutral party like you, you're just kind of watching the
- 4:35postseason because you love playoff baseball.
- 4:38It's weird. Well, it it's it's cool to see a
- 4:41team like the D backs do what they do and a team last year
- 4:46like the Phillies do what they do.
- 4:48You you just like these, whether or not you want to label them as
- 4:51Cinderella stories. Whichever route you want to
- 4:54take, so be it. But you like these less than
- 4:59notable teams getting in, making it to the dance and potentially
- 5:06making some noise. But on the flip side, you'll
- 5:08look at it and it's like 84 wins, man.
- 5:14I mean, it's Yep, I'm not going to say it's this Manford.
- 5:19Ball right here, But yeah, and that's and that's what it keeps
- 5:22coming back to. For me it's like.
- 5:25That guy is static right now. Is there truth to the sentiment
- 5:29that the regular season doesn't really matter anymore with the
- 5:34expanded postseason? And I'm not coming at that from
- 5:39a from a particular angle, I'm I'm purely presenting that as
- 5:43conversation because I think you could come at it from either
- 5:46way. I I would love to say I I the
- 5:49first round by is. I would love to say it's it's a
- 5:53huge advantage in like football because you're not talking about
- 5:57necessarily like a rhythm that you need to hold on to and if it
- 6:02if it wasn't. For the fact that so many first
- 6:05round by teams have struggled in in the last few post seasons, I
- 6:11don't think I would. I would accept what you're
- 6:14saying, but now we're seeing the Wild Card team from last year,
- 6:22the Phillies making it to the World Series.
- 6:27Now we're seeing two Wild Card teams in the World Series. 75%
- 6:33of the LCS field was. It was Wild Card teams.
- 6:37Yeah, yeah. It's just, Oh my goodness, it's
- 6:42a weird postseason. And I I hate to get.
- 6:45I like we're so the reason I'm I'm fearful is because we're
- 6:49such an analytical sport and I and I fear that there's going to
- 6:55be, I don't know if there's going to be some type of letting
- 6:59off the gas. If you have a A2 game lead in
- 7:05the division with a week left in the season, I don't, I don't
- 7:11know like how big of an advantage is it to take five
- 7:15days off? I mean, do do you think teams
- 7:24remember this feeling that has or this taste that has been left
- 7:27in? I don't know.
- 7:30Or will teams forget and be like no we need?
- 7:33That, I mean, it's a player thing, it's a player thing, it's
- 7:35a player thing. And I think it's circumstantial
- 7:38for whatever the team situation is.
- 7:40If you have a key star that's nursing some type of injury, I
- 7:45don't know if there if there's a situation like that, but at the
- 7:49same time like. US, us fans that don't have
- 7:58teams in the dogfight. Like, I'm a little bummed, and
- 8:03it's nothing against the Diamondbacks.
- 8:04It's just like I I know, yes, they won, But this team isn't
- 8:13better than the Braves. This team isn't better than the
- 8:17Phillies. It's just I understand the
- 8:20postseason is about getting hot at the right time.
- 8:26I just. I don't want to sit there and
- 8:30blame the structure of the postseason, right.
- 8:32And this is where I'm going to play devil's advocate to my
- 8:35devil's advocate where you can sit there and say, yeah, 8484
- 8:39wins. But I've said it before, just
- 8:42like we talked about years ago with the Edgar Martinez Hall of
- 8:45Fame conversation, You can't fault the guy.
- 8:48You can't. Blame him for You can't blame
- 8:50him for succeeding at an institution of the game, an
- 8:55element, a facet of the game that was created by the game.
- 8:59I know. And we're in the same thing.
- 9:00We're going to the. Smaller camp.
- 9:01We're in that smaller camp. The people that support the
- 9:04Dodgers, you know, 2020 World Series.
- 9:06And it's legitimate. You can't blame the Dodgers for
- 9:09winning that because it was up for grabs for anybody.
- 9:13So I get it. I definitely understand.
- 9:18We can't blame the system. I just.
- 9:26It's so tough to make this argument without sounding like
- 9:29I'm discrediting the Diamondbacks.
- 9:31And overall, like, when I watch this Diamondbacks team, this
- 9:36series kind of opened my eyes as the fact that, like, I think
- 9:42they're the most complete team when you talk about all facets
- 9:49of the game defensively. Base running, hitting for
- 9:54average pitching, both starting and bullpen.
- 10:00They do a lot of stuff. Well, they do a lot of stuff.
- 10:05Well, the back end of that bullpen is legit, and that's AI
- 10:12mean. That's a that's a trade
- 10:14acquisition. Paul Seewald punching your
- 10:17ticket for the World Series. For ya, you needed a clear
- 10:21example of pitching wins championships.
- 10:25I mean the D backs minimizing the bashing Phillies offense the
- 10:33way they did down the stretch. So I think it.
- 10:36I don't. I don't.
- 10:37I don't remember what I heard on the broadcast.
- 10:38It was kind of like an off thing.
- 10:40I don't know if it was Darling or Frank Corb 3.
- 10:48Three home runs from the Phillies at home.
- 10:50Is that what it was? I think he said something like
- 10:56that. I didn't confirm.
- 10:58I didn't look it up. I think it was also, I mean,
- 11:06well, three runs in the last two games at home.
- 11:10That's tough. That's not what you want.
- 11:20That's brutal. Sorry.
- 11:22I was looking up a tweet I saw earlier tonight.
- 11:26I don't know if this was or. Yeah, OK, yeah 'cause they
- 11:30didn't get up in the night. So it looks it looks as though
- 11:34Harper, Turner Schwarber. Cassiano's finished one for 14
- 11:38with 5K's. Yeah, I've never.
- 11:48Ever thought of this before? I've never, like, gave it a
- 11:52legitimate thought before, but I heard this idea.
- 11:57I don't know if we've even talked about it on the podcast
- 11:59before. You and I are old school
- 12:02baseball guys. Like, we're not really.
- 12:05We're always late to the party when it comes to rule changes,
- 12:08things like that. Give your Give ourselves some
- 12:11credit. We've been better lately.
- 12:14We've been better lately. Someone, someone said this idea
- 12:21and when I first heard, I was like, that's just, it's not
- 12:23baseball, it's ridiculous. But I actually thought about it
- 12:28again this game. The idea was based on what
- 12:33you're seeing in other sports, when it's, you know, 30 seconds
- 12:38left in the fourth quarter, you have your star quarterback
- 12:43trying to find the star receiver. 15 seconds left in the
- 12:49fourth quarter. You have your star guy on the
- 12:53court trying to get the ball, people setting screens to get
- 12:56him the ball. The idea that this someone gave
- 13:01me was at one point. You get one time at any point in
- 13:07the game to hit reset on your line up and run it back to the
- 13:14top. At any point in the game and
- 13:20it's wild because it's like you hate to see a team like the
- 13:27Phillies and and he's our guy. He's been on the pod before, but
- 13:32you hate to see their season end with Jake Cave and it felt like
- 13:39the IT felt like the game ended in the seventh tonight.
- 13:43On Harper's fly out, it felt like it was over for me.
- 13:47Yeah, let's just, I mean we we pretty much are already talking
- 13:50about this series. Let's just get into like game
- 13:53specific stuff here and then we we'll switch gears and talk.
- 13:56Rangers, Astros. You mentioned the 7th for me in
- 14:02watching each one of these games and getting to know, I mean I'll
- 14:09be honest, the D backs and the way they play and the and who's
- 14:14been Wheeling and dealing as of late, getting to be able to
- 14:18watch them for this series. I had a pretty good
- 14:25understanding of the situation in the 7th, and for me that was
- 14:29the opportunity that you had to capitalize.
- 14:32And it it, it may sound obvious to some but if you go back and
- 14:36look you would just you would just top of the seventh.
- 14:41Wheeler comes in. Wheeler gets that lunging K to
- 14:45end the end. The top of the inning.
- 14:48Yeah. And he's all business coming off
- 14:51the mountain. The crowd's getting back into it
- 14:54a little bit. You're going OK, we got we got
- 14:55our guy in his first ever. His first career relief
- 14:59appearance seem seems to be settling in just fine now.
- 15:05Now we go don't be, Was someone on?
- 15:08Base when he came in, honestly can't remember.
- 15:13I think he. Came in the middle of the
- 15:14inning. Yeah, I think he came in the
- 15:17middle of the inning, but I don't remember if it was
- 15:20inherited or not. But I believe he did strand
- 15:22somebody. I want to say it first I.
- 15:24Thought he inherited a runner, and to me like that's even more
- 15:27impressive. A starter coming out of a relief
- 15:30appearance with somebody on you're immediately in the
- 15:32stretch. Sorry, keep going, but just
- 15:34wanted to pat him on the back. No, no.
- 15:36So you get him. I don't even remember who he
- 15:39struck out, but it was it was it made him look silly, Whoever it
- 15:42was. Why the fuck It was fam.
- 15:47It may have not been fam. Anyway, not important.
- 15:51You get him walking off the man. You're going.
- 15:52OK? Feeling good?
- 15:54Bottom of the seventh. You've got Saul.
- 16:01Frank, who I saw tonight, walks more than half of the batters he
- 16:06faced this postseason series or the NLCS or no, was it?
- 16:12It may have been the whole. I think it was the whole May.
- 16:15Have been the whole the whole postseason.
- 16:17Either way walks more than half the batters he faced.
- 16:24You have it. To their credit they got on and
- 16:27they capitalized But you needed to do it before they gave the
- 16:32ball to Ginkel who's been very good and you saw why I think he
- 16:38ended up striking out the side in the 8th.
- 16:41So he was he was clearly dialed in tonight like that was that
- 16:48was the opportunity and you got you got I think Brandon Marsh
- 16:51LED off the bottom of the seventh who has had his.
- 16:55I mean he's he's not putting dents in the wall by any stretch
- 16:58but he's he's been a little bit of a spark with with a BS from
- 17:03time to time in this series. It to me everything just kind of
- 17:06aligned. I'm like, OK if they can get a a
- 17:08pesky Brynn and Marsh to to poke one into the cache.
- 17:11Walk was huge for me. I know they were talking about
- 17:15like pitch selection of probably not needing to throw that
- 17:19curveball from Saul Frank, but that pasche walk to me was like,
- 17:25it's starting to come together, starting to make moves, and they
- 17:29had nothing to show for it. A couple check swings could have
- 17:33gone the other way, but forces a walk.
- 17:37Yeah. Ginkgo though.
- 17:39Dang, I didn't know. Personally, I didn't know Ginkgo
- 17:45and Seawald. I've been like, possibly the
- 17:49best pen duo of the postseason haven't let up a.
- 17:52Run all postseason, I think, Darling said.
- 17:56I had. I just.
- 17:57I didn't know. I wasn't aware.
- 18:00It's like the shack meme. Like, I wasn't familiar with
- 18:02your game. Like, yeah.
- 18:05Dude, who would have thought coming in the post?
- 18:07She's Ginkle in Seawall. I mean, yeah, Seawall.
- 18:11I can understand the names. Are the most ridiculous.
- 18:14Saul Frank fought Ginkle and these boys are coming in.
- 18:21Dude, these guys are coming here.
- 18:24Saul Frank needs it figured out. But still a weird name.
- 18:29Can we take this minute to pause?
- 18:30And you know, I I ate crow right off the top of this episode, but
- 18:34can we go back to March when you said, oh, you know, this random
- 18:39Diamondbacks love coming up out of nowhere.
- 18:42Maybe I saw something. Maybe I maybe I was.
- 18:45I was sniffing around a little something back in March.
- 18:47You got some you got some chase. You got some chase rubbing up on
- 18:51you some D back dog. You didn't have AD back dog,
- 18:55but. I have had AD back dog before.
- 18:59I know I didn't get one on that trip, but I have had one before.
- 19:02I know you said it's just a normal hot dog, the saltiest.
- 19:05Hot dog I've ever had stock Standard.
- 19:10They dumped it in the hot dog water and then immediately put
- 19:13it on the bun. You mentioned you mentioned
- 19:16fought. What a.
- 19:18Stud dude. What a dude.
- 19:22What a stud the kid is. No joke.
- 19:30What was that game? Did he throw Game 3, 3:00 and
- 19:417:00? No, two.
- 19:47I think it was three. When did he?
- 19:49Throw. I was watching it at Chili's on
- 19:54my lunch break. So I remember that part.
- 20:04All right. Well, if gallon was five then
- 20:08maybe would that have been four day is it?
- 20:15The D backs would have won game four.
- 20:18Now, now, now what are we doing? It's all just blending.
- 20:26I'll pull it up. No, Game four was the bullpen.
- 20:31Game. Game.
- 20:32So was game three. Yeah, they D backs 121.
- 20:37And fought through that one. Yeah, 5 2/3, two hits, zero
- 20:42earned runs Stuck. Tempo on the mound.
- 20:46Just you just, it doesn't seem like he's a young buck dude like
- 20:52you. Oh yeah.
- 20:55Just really, really special. I I just.
- 21:01I just didn't know. I didn't know.
- 21:04Been calling them pee fat my whole life.
- 21:07I can't. We can still continue to call
- 21:08them pee fat. That's kind of.
- 21:10Pee fat. That's kind of dope.
- 21:11I mean, I can't tell you the number of times I chose them as
- 21:17like the weekend series, to watch that throughout the
- 21:21regular season and I remember writing on my white board.
- 21:24Be fat multiple times. I'm proud of him like a mother
- 21:32hen. I'm proud of him.
- 21:35Guy is a freaking stud, man. Oh yeah, good.
- 21:41Good. Also Katel Marte.
- 21:45I know how taught it, how we were super early on.
- 21:48Katel Marte, do you remember when we did position rankings?
- 21:52Yes, before the before the year, yes, and we came.
- 21:55Out with position rankings. Everyone hated on them, so we
- 21:58stopped doing them. Yeah, When I Yeah, that was,
- 22:01that was probably before our like latest layer of thick skin.
- 22:05I think at this point we're pretty callous.
- 22:07I'm pretty, yeah, just about anything that I'm not losing
- 22:10sleep. Over any of your opinions, so I
- 22:17I remember us. Ranking and it was.
- 22:19I think it was right after he had won.
- 22:24Well, he got like an All Star appearance or something like
- 22:27that. And I was like, hey, he's the
- 22:28top three second baseman in the league.
- 22:31And I remember not believing you.
- 22:33And then we did a deep dive into the numbers and I'm like, I
- 22:35think. He, I think he kind of pooped to
- 22:36bed a little bit last year, yeah, but like this year, man,
- 22:41just the postseason. I think he has a knock in every
- 22:45game, doesn't he? I don't know.
- 22:46Is that streak still going? Maybe it.
- 22:48Stopped game. No, he got a hit tonight, didn't
- 22:51he? He poked up on the right.
- 22:53Or was that a SAC fly? That was a double.
- 22:55He had a double, yeah. So his postseason streak hitting
- 22:59streak is at 16, yeah? Whoa.
- 23:02Goodness goodness gracious. Just dudes.
- 23:07Just a bunch of dudes, just a bunch of guys being dudes, I
- 23:11will say. That there's a lot of Christian
- 23:13Walker hate here. Lot of Christian Walker hate
- 23:18from D backs fans around the I mean he didn't really really
- 23:21didn't really do much so I mean it's there's a whole lot of
- 23:26like. Can't wait till we get Goldie
- 23:28back. Chatter.
- 23:31What's going on? Well, I mean, I if it was up to
- 23:34Christian Walker, Paul Goldschmidt, I'd probably take
- 23:36Paul Goldschmidt, but that's just for sure.
- 23:38But. I mean, Christian Walker's these
- 23:39guys did. OK, you gotta put a gold.
- 23:42Glove this year. You gotta understand these D
- 23:45backs fans, some, some fresh, some still with the tags on
- 23:49their their shirts from the store, some not so much, but
- 23:54collectively they're in the heat of this.
- 23:58Well, what was 7 game series no longer.
- 24:04They're in the heat of it, man. If somebody's not performing, I
- 24:07mean, you've been there, I've been there.
- 24:09You're not happy about it and you're ready to jump ship
- 24:12irrationally, but you're ready to jump ship.
- 24:14And I think that's what they're ready to do with with Walker, he
- 24:20also. Forgot to count.
- 24:24Oh, Speaking of the devil, Kato Marte wins Mineral CSMVP.
- 24:29How about that 16 game hitting streak?
- 24:31Just like we said, talk about another guy that maybe wasn't
- 24:40performing as well as he maybe could have Tommy Pham benched in
- 24:44game five and then comes out Game six.
- 24:49It's a bomb. Does this guy just need to be
- 24:52like to? Does he just need haters?
- 24:56I think he just needs haters. He's like, he needs that.
- 25:00If no one's hating on him, if people, if you start to like
- 25:03him, he's not as effective. He needs haters.
- 25:09Someone possibly. It's just I haven't confirmed,
- 25:13but I'm I'm going to go ahead and assume someone in the dugout
- 25:17did something they shouldn't have done in fantasy football.
- 25:21Probably turned him up a little bit.
- 25:24Hits a nuke Game 6. I mean, I think the the simple
- 25:28fact of him being benched probably didn't.
- 25:31I'm going with the fantasy football thing.
- 25:34I mean, true. What are we in weeks?
- 25:35Are we in Week 7 now? I'm not hopping.
- 25:37Camps, by the way. I can't stand Tommy Pham.
- 25:39I'm staying. I'm staying in on that, on that
- 25:41side of things. Can't stand them.
- 25:48Speaking of game six, any thoughts on the Harper showing
- 25:54up in all black? We don't have to spend much time
- 25:58on that. I just didn't know if you had
- 25:59any particular follow on it. I want to.
- 26:02I'm going to give you credit. I'm going to give other social
- 26:06media accounts credit as well, because this is the kind of
- 26:09stuff we've talked about. We're, like, helping grow the
- 26:14game. And I know it's like we're
- 26:15talking about a dude's outfit, but this is the crap that we
- 26:18talked about with every other sport and no one seems to
- 26:21mention it with baseball. So I'm glad that it got some
- 26:23light. I'm glad that we're talking
- 26:25about this stuff, because. It's like, it's cool, it's fun.
- 26:29It's different than it's a little bit outside the lines.
- 26:31So like anyone throwing a fit, be like, oh, why are we talking
- 26:35about what he's showing up in? No, all black strippy.
- 26:39It's never not drippy. No, no.
- 26:42But I'm saying, do you, Johnny? Cash.
- 26:45I'm talking exactly what he said, verbatim.
- 26:48Do you think I was? I'm not asking just randomly
- 26:51like, oh, did you like his fit? I'm asking like more so for the
- 26:56any potential message being sent by it, No.
- 26:59Did you read into that at all? I did not.
- 27:01I will not by the way, I I appreciate you giving me credit
- 27:04on that. The comments, however, both
- 27:07surprisingly on Instagram and Facebook, did not have that same
- 27:11sentiment a lot of talking about.
- 27:13This a lot of glazing comments, a lot of side note.
- 27:18I guess the I guess the thing to do now is just post a jiff of
- 27:26the Krispy Kreme doughnuts being glazed.
- 27:29And no other comment, just the just the jiff of the doughnut
- 27:33being glazed as a way of saying glazing.
- 27:35Which, I mean, if that's that's what we're doing these days, I'm
- 27:41here for it I guess. Whatever, dude.
- 27:44But it's not glazing, man. It's that it's a star in the
- 27:48game. Yep.
- 27:51And he's been, let's just say he's been rather intentional
- 27:55leading up to that point with some of his outfit selections, a
- 27:59la Coach Prime Merch, so on and so forth.
- 28:06That's all I'm going to say anyway.
- 28:07We don't need to talk about that.
- 28:08Let's talk, let's talk more about the rest of the series.
- 28:10Game tonight, game seven. A lot of the narrative a lot of
- 28:18the discussion coming into game seven, which I still I cannot
- 28:22believe this series made it to game seven.
- 28:25Honestly I'm a little I'm a little disappointed in the
- 28:28Phillies for allowing it to get to game seven.
- 28:30Like if you're I get it. This is this is October baseball
- 28:35anything happens. I I say that seemingly every
- 28:37episode now but like come on man.
- 28:43You're the Phillies. This is the D backs.
- 28:45You need to put that. You needed to put this to bed a
- 28:47long time ago. It didn't happen.
- 28:49They coughed up a game in in Phoenix, right?
- 28:54I coughed up. Two.
- 28:57No. Yeah, two.
- 28:59In Phoenix. Both the comeback wins.
- 29:04When was the comeback win? When was the they dropped two or
- 29:08three in? I know that.
- 29:09But what was the were both of those comeback wins No.
- 29:17Game 5 was the game that you had your your prediction of Little
- 29:23Bop, Little Bop Wheeler coming out strong.
- 29:27That was 6/1. Game 6D backs in in at the bank
- 29:33taking the Phillies down five. One.
- 29:35No, but what I was saying is the negative coming into game seven.
- 29:39Was that Rob Thompson? Despite the D backs sending the
- 29:47clear message that they're not going to be beat by guys like
- 29:51Schwarber, Harper that he was unwilling to change his lineup
- 29:58coming into game seven, you still had Boehm hitting fourth.
- 30:02Which to his credit comes out hits a bomb.
- 30:07Kind of quite sat native down, at least from from his point of
- 30:11view, but they scored two runs. Yeah, so how much of this is on
- 30:21on on Topper I? But no, I can't do that.
- 30:27I am personally a Rob Thompson fan.
- 30:32Excellent job since taking over. They just need to be better with
- 30:39runners in scoring position. Just haven't been good.
- 30:44I think what did that stat that they flashed that was like I saw
- 30:48it that outside of game. Two like outside of game two,
- 30:51which was the Smackin right, that they put on it, everything
- 30:55else was like really bad with runners in scoring position,
- 30:58like Bad track had done. So I can't put that on on old
- 31:03Robbie Philly Robb, He's old school.
- 31:07I like the way he manages. I think the team buys in with
- 31:10the way he manages. I I don't see the reason to
- 31:14change things. You just you need your guys to
- 31:17show up. Nikki Castellanos.
- 31:19Mr. Blastianos just didn't have a good series.
- 31:25We already dropped the number with with Schwarber, Turner and
- 31:30and Bryce just a little disappointing.
- 31:34That's how baseball goes sometimes.
- 31:36But I don't think we can sit here and play Monday morning
- 31:39quarterback and say, oh. A lineup change would.
- 31:42It would have gotten you a dub. I don't.
- 31:45I don't agree. Yeah.
- 31:55Here's an here's an interesting I was looking for the the
- 31:58Runston score position number, but I found I see a tweet here
- 32:01from yeah, Nugget. Jeff Jeff Skovsky Phillies
- 32:06hitters in game six and seven at home in the NLCS, needing only
- 32:09one win to make the World Series 21.
- 32:12KS 2 for 17 with runners and scoring position 14 left on
- 32:17base. Bryce Harper Trey Turner Nick
- 32:19Cassiano's combined O for 23. Yeah, and that's just game six
- 32:27and seven, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:32Obviously we are hopping on. I mean, everyone's listening to
- 32:35this presumably tomorrow morning, but we are hopping on
- 32:38right after the game, so not really getting any like post
- 32:41game interviews to talk about. But I'm assuming Bryce Harper
- 32:46and guys like that are going to be owning that dude.
- 32:49Like that's that for the same reason, the same quote that he
- 32:55dropped before saying that's why you pay Trey Turner.
- 32:59This is why you get paid. And you know, you didn't do what
- 33:02you what you needed to do. They're definitely going to take
- 33:06ownership. Yeah.
- 33:10It's just the You got to be better.
- 33:12You got to be better. What I will say I want to give.
- 33:15I think if the Phillies would have won, I wanted to give a
- 33:18lot, a lot of credit to Ranger Suarez.
- 33:22Ranger Suarez was Dyson all postseason, did not have a good
- 33:28year. I had him in fantasy.
- 33:29I hated him for a minute. Was on IL for a bunch.
- 33:33Mystery injuries from there. Just didn't look good.
- 33:36I think he had like an ERA over 4 throughout the regular season.
- 33:39Comes in the postseason and just flips a switch and looked
- 33:43really, really good. So if the Phillies would have
- 33:47won, I would have given him more love.
- 33:48But I did want to say my piece on that.
- 33:55Somebody I do want to give On the flip side, to give a little
- 33:58credit to we've already mentioned his name, but Corbin
- 34:00Carroll? Clearly he was just saving up,
- 34:06saving up everything for game seven, it seemed.
- 34:08This was the Corbin Carroll game, apparently.
- 34:11And honestly, looking at Game 7 as a whole, it it was, it became
- 34:17very, very clear early on that the D backs were getting back to
- 34:20their brain of baseball. Yeah, putting, putting ball into
- 34:24play, being aggressive on the base pass, embracing the chaos
- 34:28as they say, small ball, getting bunts down, which that was
- 34:33refreshing to see. I think both sides of the ball
- 34:35were were trying to lay bunts down at various points
- 34:38throughout the game, which was nice to see you.
- 34:42You love teams playing for that one run, because I don't.
- 34:48A single run can win you the game.
- 34:50I know. And I don't know, would they
- 34:52have 4 swipes tonight? Five.
- 34:57That sounds about right. Yeah, four or five and I.
- 34:59Like that they're not. They're not like, I mean they're
- 35:05they're just not reckless. They know when to steal.
- 35:08They still at the right time talking about JT Rio Muto dude,
- 35:11like a premier catcher like that to be able to get that.
- 35:18And I I think that's maybe what we saw in the beginning of the
- 35:20series. They maybe were a little
- 35:23reluctant and they didn't want to give away outs.
- 35:25And you could hear it on the broadcast.
- 35:28They were like, why is Corbin Carroll still first base?
- 35:31Why is he still there? Yeah, And you could just tell
- 35:33like the beginning of the series, it wasn't nearly them.
- 35:35And then seems like they just, they got back to being them.
- 35:39What got them there? And it ain't about just chilling
- 35:43and being cautious. This is a team that pushes the
- 35:45envelope. And like I said, man, just like
- 35:47really disciplined baseball. They're not going to beat
- 35:51themselves. The Phillies beat themselves
- 35:54this series not to discredit the D backs.
- 35:59So no. No.
- 36:00Not anyway. They're.
- 36:01I haven't even, I haven't verbalized my my congratulations
- 36:06for them. But I mean a well deserved World
- 36:09Series berth. I mean it.
- 36:10I would venture to say not even D backs fans saw it coming.
- 36:14Yeah, for sure. But not at all.
- 36:17I mean, they did what they had to do.
- 36:20And I mean they take down a Dodgers team.
- 36:22They take down the, like, a couple teams that probably the
- 36:27majority of other baseball fans would have pegged as possible
- 36:32National League representatives in the World Series.
- 36:35Making, making, I don't want to say, quick work.
- 36:38Well, the Dodgers, maybe, But the Phillies, I don't think,
- 36:42even with their struggles, I don't think you're going to make
- 36:44quick work of them. But they they countered that by
- 36:51beating him at the bank, which I think is honestly more
- 36:55impressive. My last question.
- 36:58I don't know if we're moving on to the other one, but my last
- 37:02question is, were you wearing the Bryce jersey and did you
- 37:08need to take it off before recording?
- 37:12I was not wearing it, no. OK, I was not wearing it.
- 37:15And in fact, because this is like a late night recording and
- 37:19I usually try it, when we do these, I usually try to minimize
- 37:23the work or try to get ahead on any like work I can knock out
- 37:27ahead of time. So that way I can just edit it
- 37:29and get get to bed. Sure, because.
- 37:31It's a lot later out here on the East Coast.
- 37:35I've made the mistake before of getting ahead of myself and like
- 37:39creating graphics for the episode or what have you or
- 37:42episode titles. I and I was like, I don't want
- 37:46to have any influence because I I believe in that the vibes.
- 37:51I don't want to be sending out the vibes out to the bank.
- 37:54One way or another I get. That I didn't get ahead of
- 37:57myself, so I was trying to be very vague, trying to do, you
- 38:01know, as little as much work as I could but without.
- 38:04Yeah, without getting ahead of myself.
- 38:06So yeah, I mean, I didn't wasn't wearing the jersey.
- 38:09It just, I hate to say it, I didn't feel great as a pseudo
- 38:17Phillies fan coming into game seven had just didn't.
- 38:21Yeah, you needed to do it in games.
- 38:24I mean, you needed to do it before game six, but if you were
- 38:26going to have to bring it back to the bank, you had to do it in
- 38:29six. I had.
- 38:30Yeah, the the pressure. I mean, we've talked about this
- 38:33before. Whenever you get a a team that
- 38:36pushes it to a Game 7, the pressure then the pressure's on.
- 38:41You. Yeah, yeah.
- 38:42And that's exactly what happened.
- 38:43And I think they they felt that. Saw it in both series.
- 38:47Yeah, crazy. I think I heard this was the
- 38:53first time ever. That was it.
- 38:57On the broadcast, they said the first time ever that the road
- 39:00team had won six and seven on both.
- 39:03Sides on both sides, Which I can believe that like I don't.
- 39:07I don't need to think too hard on that.
- 39:09Like that's that's quite the feat.
- 39:12Yeah quite the feat. Any we can we can switch gears
- 39:16here Any any other thoughts on the the Phillies D Back series?
- 39:23Any takeaways? Yeah, I mean, I I think.
- 39:33Phillies could just probably use a little bit more of athleticism
- 39:38in that lineup. I'd.
- 39:42I'd like to see a little bit more.
- 39:44So I don't know how you make that happen, but I think you
- 39:48need to make it happen. Maybe trade for a Mike Trout.
- 39:54Whatever. No big deal.
- 39:56Moving on. Maybe sick.
- 40:03I don't know. People are going to people are
- 40:06going to roll their eyes, but naturally I'm going to my.
- 40:09My take away is probably going to revolve around Harper.
- 40:12But I was just sitting there watching.
- 40:14They they pan to him in the ninth.
- 40:15I think there was like one or two outs in the 9th and they pan
- 40:19to him and he just got this look on his face.
- 40:22And immediately my mind, my mind went to this guy's running out
- 40:27of chances. Yep, And I've said it before,
- 40:30this is not basketball. It's not solely on him to win a
- 40:34ring. He can't win a ring by himself.
- 40:36Nobody can win a ring by themselves.
- 40:38Look at Mike Trout. Can't win a ring by himself,
- 40:41show hate. Can't win a ring by himself.
- 40:45But with, I mean we all. I don't need to rehash the
- 40:48narrative. We all know the story around
- 40:49Bryce Harper and why he gets so much hate and why he still
- 40:53somehow can't meet the expectations of some baseball
- 40:57fans out there. It's because he's missing the
- 40:58ring. You have to think about it.
- 41:00He's 31 if I, if I recall anything freshly 31 I think.
- 41:09Yeah. And and you can say like, well,
- 41:11like like he's still got a number of years left.
- 41:15You have to just assume that the that's going to be a his chances
- 41:21are going to be a fraction of what he has left.
- 41:23Because sure, he may have nine years left in his career if he
- 41:28plays to lose 40, but they're not going to the World Series
- 41:32for the next nine years, no. And you got to assume that
- 41:35there's going to be a closing of a window.
- 41:37And you know, this first hand, the Dombrowski era can be great,
- 41:43and then it can really suck as it's coming to an end when that
- 41:47bank account is finally dry. And it's probably creeping into
- 41:52that territory pretty soon. So you're right.
- 41:56I think the move to first base could prolong his productivity.
- 42:01But overall, just like with Phillies, yeah, you got to find
- 42:05a way to just get a little bit more athletic.
- 42:10I don't, I don't know why that comes to mind, that I just, I
- 42:13don't know. It seems like you need to.
- 42:15You need to have better defense, specifically in the outfield,
- 42:19the bullpen. Bullpen needs help too.
- 42:29They got some dudes there though.
- 42:30They can they can build off of that.
- 42:34Maybe just some adjustments here there, but 28 other teams are
- 42:39already thinking about the adjustments they're going to be
- 42:41making for next year. But yeah, shout out to the D
- 42:44backs, man, that's a heck of a series.
- 42:47Regardless how you may feel about the outcome, you got to
- 42:51love a a series of CO7. And Speaking of a series of Win
- 42:547 Texas Astros, let's talk about it.
- 43:05I. I mean, I don't need to say too
- 43:08much, but it's Mr. Garcia to you.
- 43:15Yeah, yo, yeah, yeah, Mayor of. Texas, I mean goodness.
- 43:23That can't be a. Mayor of Texas.
- 43:26Governor of Texas, I I posted it.
- 43:29Sure. The president of Texas,
- 43:30Governor, They're essentially their own country at this point.
- 43:34Sure. Adoles Garcia, President of
- 43:36Texas, You heard it here first, that that meme I posted of
- 43:42Cassiano's, which now it's kind of funny, 'cause obviously
- 43:46they're no longer playing. But yeah, the the, the ring
- 43:49flicking the ring finger. Yeah, that's tough, man.
- 43:53The ring finger flicking him off.
- 43:55I was like, I posted and said that's a Dolis Garcia to every
- 44:00last person associated with the Houston Astros organization.
- 44:03And I posted that in like the third 'cause he had two home
- 44:06runs in game seven and I posted that in like the third and then
- 44:10he goes on to he hits another home run at towards the end of
- 44:15the game. I think he sprinkled in like a.
- 44:18Two run single, I think. Single or double or something,
- 44:21Yeah or no. Was it was that the single that
- 44:26he then stole? Second on, was that the same AB?
- 44:31No, that was. The single that he big time
- 44:33pimped off the wall right and then stole, he had another like
- 44:38squeaker through the 55 hole that scored two.
- 44:40So we had four hits. In game seven, he had a million.
- 44:42RB is just in just in game seven, just a million.
- 44:47In just that game, he homered in four straight games.
- 44:51In game seven, as I mentioned, Homer twice drove in five runs.
- 44:57Only three players have longer streaks than his home run streak
- 45:03of four straight games in the postseason.
- 45:06Daniel Murphy in 2015, he had six, Jean Carlos Satan five in
- 45:102020, and Carlos Beltran also had five in 2004.
- 45:14As you mentioned, a million RB is the most RB is in a single
- 45:18postseason series set a record with 1515.
- 45:27Monster dude. I love, love, love, love that.
- 45:36He gets the last laugh that fat Maldonado comes on in a
- 45:42postseason, he says. Well, the biggest thing you got
- 45:44to worry about is that you just woke up the Houston Astros.
- 45:48No son. Negative Adullis runs this.
- 45:54Hey, every now and then I come across a rather intelligent
- 45:58comment on social media on on one of these posts and I went to
- 46:02that post after game seven after Adullis as you mentioned, very
- 46:08factually of course recorded a million RB is and I went back
- 46:13and looked and somebody in response to Maldonado's quote
- 46:17said, you know that works both ways and I said it sure does.
- 46:23It sure does, and I think Adolis Garcia made that very clear.
- 46:28What a. Freaking monster, dude.
- 46:30What a beast. What a beast.
- 46:34And you can't even hate on the guy for that one that he just
- 46:38completely big leagued, No. Not at all.
- 46:42I'm OK with every part of it. You could have been mad for
- 46:45about 7 seconds, yeah. And then he gets to the base
- 46:50that he should have bought. He he had a chance to get to
- 46:52anyway, yeah. Yeah, that was dope.
- 46:56Where, you know, people are all, like, complaining about it as
- 46:59he's swiping. Oh, I mean, I was, I'll admit I
- 47:02was like, dude, come on, like you've been, you've been going
- 47:05off this series, but like you didn't get all of it.
- 47:10Just give me a little bit of more effort out-of-the-box and
- 47:14then as I'm thinking this trip. There you go.
- 47:18That's so sick. That's like, it's just so sick.
- 47:27I I got to say, I think he everyone knows he was good.
- 47:36Every baseball fan understands that he was good.
- 47:40This to me is like. I'm a household name now, and I
- 47:47have to be considered. I have to be considered a top
- 47:53five, maybe a top three center fielder.
- 47:59Let's let's qualify this point by saying people knew he was
- 48:06good as of late, because I don't know how much you've seen being
- 48:10resurfaced about his earlier playing days with being DFA D
- 48:17and this and that. And I'm going to have to come to
- 48:22the defense of the Cardinals here a little bit.
- 48:24The Cardinals have been catching a lot of strays.
- 48:27The Cardinals what? Go ahead.
- 48:33No, go ahead. How many chances are you going
- 48:35to give them? How many times are you going to
- 48:37screw up? How many names have they screwed
- 48:40up? Give me a second please.
- 48:47Too many Cardinals are catching a lot of strays for DFA and
- 48:55Adolis Garcia. Not a role of Chapman.
- 48:58Adolis Garcia. And people seem to forget that.
- 49:03The Rangers DFA to Adolis Garcia.
- 49:06Nobody wants to talk about that, but I guess it just doesn't fit
- 49:09the narrative. It doesn't The Rangers.
- 49:13Literally DFA the guy not talked about it.
- 49:17Not like, oh, is there a guy we can maybe flip him forward just
- 49:20to get like a quick return, quick, easy return?
- 49:23No, they literally DFA the guy. And 29 other teams passed and
- 49:32they're like, OK, we tried. We tried to get rid of them, and
- 49:37nobody wants to talk about that. It's just the Cardinals like,
- 49:41let's OK, yeah, no, that's fine. That's fine.
- 49:43Like. Like former Pirate great the
- 49:48Cardinals and the Pirates are in their own category now.
- 49:52I'm not going to no, I'm not going to.
- 49:55I'm not going to hit on it anyway.
- 49:59Yeah, Adolas Garcia going off. I mean, looking specifically at
- 50:04game seven. Well, if you want to look at
- 50:09game six and seven, the Astros gave up twenty runs.
- 50:15Yeah, 20. Granted, Adolas Garcia had about
- 50:23probably 19 of those. Maybe 20, maybe even 25.
- 50:28They had a million. Of the time.
- 50:29Maybe they didn't count. All of them they didn't.
- 50:31But you can't. You can't do that.
- 50:34But it for it validates the narrative that they were cheeks
- 50:39at home. What is that about this
- 50:42postseason? I don't.
- 50:43Understand that. It's so weird.
- 50:51I'm a big, big fan of watching Mattress Mack lose his money,
- 50:55though. That's nice.
- 50:56Yeah, dude, Mattress, that's That's enjoyable, let me tell
- 50:59you. I've seen I'm starting to learn
- 51:02a little bit more with each year because I mean they're one of
- 51:06the final four teams every year now it seems as we've talked
- 51:09about every every year that passes I'm I'm getting a little
- 51:14bit more insight onto this mattress mat guy.
- 51:18Doesn't seem like the. Greatest human being like.
- 51:23Just looking, just looking at it from an outsider's perspective,
- 51:27the limited knowledge I have, he doesn't seem like the the
- 51:30kindest, the kindest soul. If I'm being honest, I think
- 51:34he's a. 145 years old. I mean, he's got, he's got the
- 51:39juice though. Man, I I saw the I'm not buying
- 51:42the mattresses. Either I'm not buying that.
- 51:44That's a that's a scam, I see. I saw the clip resurfacing from
- 51:50last year when he when Oh no, Was that the?
- 51:56Oh no, it was the the 2019 World Series I think when they dropped
- 52:00it to the Nats and he was going at it with some guy like in on
- 52:05the concourse after they dropped dropped that last game.
- 52:10Which, I mean, I get you're losing a lot of money each time
- 52:12you do that, but just, I don't know, man doesn't really seem to
- 52:16take his lumps very well. I will say I I think MLB just we
- 52:21need bigger betters. We need we, not bigger betters.
- 52:25We need more big betters. It's it's it's enjoyable when
- 52:30like you have Chad Ocho Cinco dropping $3,000,000 on AUFC
- 52:37fight and he's got like a stack of cash.
- 52:41I enjoy that part. Like that's fun to see.
- 52:45Just degenerates losing their money that way.
- 52:48It's nice, but I lost the bet today.
- 52:51But I lost 5 bucks. So, like, suck that Matt
- 52:54mattress, Not just Maggie sucker.
- 52:57Mattress Mac, your old SOB. He's just, there's no way,
- 53:03there's no way he's selling that many mattresses and he's worth
- 53:07that much money. There's something else going on.
- 53:10Not saying we need to open an investigation, but hey, Speaking
- 53:14of Speaking of there being no way, there was no way that Dusty
- 53:21Baker thought that the series ended after seven games because
- 53:25of the way he handled JP France in game seven.
- 53:29You would have thought he was playing for a best of nine,
- 53:32trying to save what bullets he had left in the pen.
- 53:35What was that, Dusty Baker? Come on, I know the whole the
- 53:40whole the stack. Going into game seven with Dusty
- 53:43having never won a game seven and Bruce Bocci.
- 53:47Never lost. Never lost the game seven.
- 53:49I I get that. I'm not.
- 53:51I'm not buying that though. Like you had a little bit more
- 53:54control of your destiny here. I think if you maybe managed the
- 53:59pen a little bit, he just let he let France wear it.
- 54:02What are you doing That was. I don't know.
- 54:06That was ugly. Kind of think Homie was just
- 54:10ready to call it, you know. Well, he did shortly thereafter.
- 54:16I didn't see. Did he announce it in the
- 54:18presser? Like I didn't see anything.
- 54:19It's just like I just I got the announce rumors.
- 54:22Around around the organization. And then social media just kind
- 54:27of ran with it, I thought. I thought it said that.
- 54:32He said official. I don't.
- 54:34I don't remember hearing or seeing anything of him saying it
- 54:37now. I think he's the.
- 54:39Report that I saw blown. Up.
- 54:44I don't love it. Yeah, Fox Sports tuned out last
- 54:48night. Dusty Baker has told People that
- 54:512023 is his last season as manager.
- 54:56Sad. I don't like that.
- 54:59I like old Dusty. How about how about freaking out
- 55:03a couple games ago, yelling and screaming, throwing his hat and
- 55:07stuff? I didn't know he still had that
- 55:09in the tank. He's got the he's.
- 55:11He'll always have that fireman. I wasn't aware he'll always have
- 55:16that. But yeah, like I said, Houston
- 55:21pitching, just getting obliterated in six and seven.
- 55:30Bruce Bochy, on the other hand, becomes the first manager to win
- 55:37ALCS with three different teams. I said it last episode.
- 55:43He's like, yeah, I think he just needs more respect.
- 55:49That guy is a phenomenal manager going back to like Tony Gwyn
- 55:58days with the Pods, way back when.
- 56:06Yeah, it was the the Giants, obviously.
- 56:10The aforementioned Padres and now the Rangers.
- 56:16Well, Padres, Giants then Rangers.
- 56:18But this guy manages with a composure I think is the right
- 56:27word. It's.
- 56:28Weird. He just doesn't seem like he's
- 56:30worried at all. He I don't know to what extent.
- 56:36Rangers fans will probably know better than I would.
- 56:38I'm sure they would. I would hope they would know his
- 56:42level of engagement with analytics, advanced analytics,
- 56:48but he seems to manage with his gut in a non reckless manner.
- 56:58Like he knows he he can read a guy and you've got you've got a
- 57:03a handful of older vets on that team that I think respond well
- 57:08to that. But he he can read his guys
- 57:13well, but also recognize that like I can't just go off of this
- 57:18because he knows that you're not going to be able to have
- 57:20sustained success. If that's the only approach you
- 57:24take. You got to have a little bit of
- 57:27evidence to support your your approach as a manager, but I
- 57:32think he has a healthy balance and I think you're seeing it
- 57:34play out extremely well right now.
- 57:38Can we talk about? It can't be a coincidence that
- 57:44Chris Young, former player, as the GM, a former player, is the
- 57:54only one that's going to understand that a manager can do
- 57:57that. Certain managers can trust their
- 57:59gut. And trust that decision making.
- 58:02I love the fact that the Rangers are succeeding because we're
- 58:08seeing a former player in that role and you're seeing a guy
- 58:12doing it really well and turning A-Team around this fast.
- 58:19They just lose 100 games. Couple years ago, two years ago,
- 58:22I believe. Yeah, dude.
- 58:24Like that that to me it talks, it's it's an organizational.
- 58:30Mindset that we can trust certain things, but analytics
- 58:34aren't going to have the entire steering wheel.
- 58:38It's having a a player in that position, having a true long
- 58:43time stud manager calling the shots and you guys are on the
- 58:47same page. I love it.
- 58:50I refuse to think that's a coincidence and am I crazy for
- 58:55seeing that? Was that Michael Young?
- 58:59Up in the box with with Chris Young.
- 59:02What's the Does Michael Young have AI?
- 59:04Wouldn't be surprised. I don't have any position.
- 59:08Up there, he was one of my favorites as a kid.
- 59:11Dude, I loved him. He was fun to watch.
- 59:17He's a freaking ball. Player says he works as a
- 59:22special assistant. He was up.
- 59:24There saw him up there. That was as of Marsh, so I would
- 59:27imagine he's still with that. All I'm saying is that I just,
- 59:31I'm a big fan of the situation of what the Rangers have put
- 59:34together, savvy veterans, coaching staff.
- 59:40That's just some of the best out there overcoming crazy injuries
- 59:49and and you know, losing big names.
- 59:51It's just. It's really impressive to and I
- 59:55love the fact that it like finished with them beating the
- 59:58Big Brother. It needed to happen for them to
- 1:00:02get here. It needed to go through Houston.
- 1:00:05The fact they did it specifically in Houston,
- 1:00:09back-to-back games, Well. Convincingly, yeah.
- 1:00:17Speaking of those games, going back to it, shout out to 1 big
- 1:00:23game. Nate shows up again, 6 and a
- 1:00:31third. Five hits, two runs, which is
- 1:00:36about as good as you can ask for in a game.
- 1:00:39Six. Because you know, even with the
- 1:00:42way that the Astros played home, you know you're not getting out
- 1:00:44of there unscathed. So to be able to limit them to
- 1:00:47two runs, especially with the way some of the guys had started
- 1:00:50to to pick it up as of late, we talked about Jose Abreu.
- 1:00:54Your Don had had already like, he's going to do what he's going
- 1:00:57to do, but you had some guys starting to heat up a little bit
- 1:01:00to be able to go in there and shut the door in Game 6, push it
- 1:01:02to game seven. Credit to him for Amber Valdez.
- 1:01:05I don't know what happened with him this postseason.
- 1:01:08Oh, and three with a 9 ERA. And then my other shout out was
- 1:01:15to Max Scherzer. I mean, very quick hook and it
- 1:01:20wasn't certainly wasn't his greatest performance, but again,
- 1:01:25limiting them to two runs before handing the ball off to the next
- 1:01:28guy, which by the way was Montgomery.
- 1:01:31He only went 2 2/3. But I when I saw that they
- 1:01:36announced it the day before after game six, I said sure it's
- 1:01:41going seven. I said Congrats.
- 1:01:43Astros and a lot of other people said the same thing, and for
- 1:01:46good reason. Like there was no reason at all
- 1:01:48to think that Max Schurzer gonna show up in game seven.
- 1:01:50Yeah, again, like I said, he he didn't give you much much
- 1:01:54length, but it's sad he could. Yeah, and and it trust me, it
- 1:01:59feels weird. You know what?
- 1:02:01What's the what's it called? Where?
- 1:02:04Like the transcription from like court.
- 1:02:06The person's just like sitting there typing everything you
- 1:02:08like. Wanna read the transcription of
- 1:02:10everything? I think if we were to like print
- 1:02:12out what you just said. Saying we got to get a show Max.
- 1:02:16Sure, there's some love for going two and 2/3.
- 1:02:20I know, dude. It feels, but might.
- 1:02:22Have been fallen, dude. I know it.
- 1:02:25Like I said, it feels weird. I understand what you're saying.
- 1:02:27It feels weird, but given the state of where he's at and with
- 1:02:32his recent slate of postseason outings to be able to not come
- 1:02:41completely unglued and only limited to two runs was.
- 1:02:48I mean that's I think that's all boat you was hoping for.
- 1:02:51Because you have to think that just about everybody is fair
- 1:02:54game and game seven. So you didn't necessarily need
- 1:02:58any length out of him, out of him, but you needed somebody to
- 1:03:01take the ball to start the game. I did think it was interesting
- 1:03:05though, like if you're going to, which I'm sure matchups and all
- 1:03:08that played into it, but Montgomery went two and a third,
- 1:03:12only one, one less out than Scherzer did.
- 1:03:15So it's like. Just going into game seven with
- 1:03:19with Monty taking the ball and still a little bit more
- 1:03:22confidence in the club versus Scherzer.
- 1:03:24I don't know. I don't know it worked out.
- 1:03:26It no need to second guess it. I mean it worked out but a lot
- 1:03:31of things that needed to go right for the for the Rangers
- 1:03:33went right. So credit to them for for
- 1:03:35capitalizing. Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep.
- 1:03:46Just a wild. Freaking weird postseason wild.
- 1:03:52Postseason Any takeaways from that series?
- 1:04:05Trying to imagine just like, what the next chapter looks like
- 1:04:09for the Astros, It's hard to picture without Dusty there, I
- 1:04:16would assume. I feel like Joe Espada just kind
- 1:04:20of slides into that role, you know?
- 1:04:25Yeah, we were talking about him before Dusty, right?
- 1:04:27Yeah. I think he's throwing his hat
- 1:04:30into the ring for multiple. Managerial openings, I I think.
- 1:04:38I think he. I think it just slides in pretty
- 1:04:40naturally. Keep it in house.
- 1:04:44I don't think they're really going to go through like a major
- 1:04:45rebuild, so I don't know. But series overall, there was
- 1:04:56like a brief stretch where I thought the Rangers were kind of
- 1:04:59dead in the water Offensively. They just they looked really.
- 1:05:02Lame at home. Really quiet at home.
- 1:05:05So I'm curious to see what this little break When does.
- 1:05:10When does the World Series start?
- 1:05:12Friday. So we got.
- 1:05:15Three days Wednesday. No, Wednesday.
- 1:05:17Thursday. Well, today's.
- 1:05:18Tuesday, huh? Yeah, just.
- 1:05:21I mean, even then, two days, it's a lot.
- 1:05:23As for a hitter? So just curious to see how that
- 1:05:26plays out. Do you have a prediction?
- 1:05:42I mean throw throw all the logic out the window.
- 1:05:44Clearly that's not working, so all right.
- 1:05:47Can I be honest? Please.
- 1:05:49I saw somebody you know, as I do on on the daily just scrolling
- 1:05:57through comments and I saw, I think I saw a tweet or an XA
- 1:06:03post, whatever it is. This was ahead of the Phillies.
- 1:06:08D back series hadn't finished yet.
- 1:06:09This was after game seven of the ALCS and I saw a post saying
- 1:06:16something a lot, something to the effect of if you don't think
- 1:06:21this Rangers team is going to win the whole thing, you're
- 1:06:24crazy. And I said I I can't, I can't
- 1:06:28say that because assuming the Phillies take Game 7.
- 1:06:35I don't. I I just don't know who's taking
- 1:06:39the Rangers over the Phillies at that point.
- 1:06:42Vegas was taking Philly over over Texas, and I think a
- 1:06:47majority of baseball fans probably would have done the
- 1:06:49same thing. But the Phillies flop.
- 1:06:54Now you're sending the D backs to Arlington.
- 1:06:57Now, I can safely revert to that take.
- 1:07:03If you don't think the Rangers are going to win this whole
- 1:07:05thing, you're crazy. However, I've been wrong on more
- 1:07:11than one occasion this postseason.
- 1:07:12Me too. So I'm not going to sit here and
- 1:07:15give you the whole sharpish spiel again.
- 1:07:19But if I had to make a as educated of a guess as I could
- 1:07:23for this upcoming World Series, I would say Rangers.
- 1:07:27And how many games, you ask? I mean, if they keep hitting the
- 1:07:35way they do, I see this going no more than five.
- 1:07:42But I said the same thing or I said something similar about the
- 1:07:46Phillies series. I said if the Phillies continue
- 1:07:48to mash, that this isn't going very long when 7D backs take the
- 1:07:53series, right? So clearly, to your point,
- 1:07:58they're taking their complete product on the field.
- 1:08:01They're taking all facets of the game that they are above average
- 1:08:04at and figuring out a way to package it together to get
- 1:08:09quality wins against quality teams.
- 1:08:12So maybe this thing does go more than five.
- 1:08:16Maybe the D backs do pull this thing out.
- 1:08:18I can't say for certain, but for the sake of a prediction, I'm
- 1:08:22gonna say Rangers in five. So I got a tough decision here.
- 1:08:37My boss came out a couple days ago, actually.
- 1:08:41It was when when the Phillies looked like they were going to
- 1:08:49manhandle the Diamondbacks, My boss came out and said.
- 1:08:54That he would dye his hair to match Yuli Guriel, if the
- 1:08:59Diamondbacks win at all. And I need to see that, you
- 1:09:08know? But at the same time, I just
- 1:09:13don't. I don't see that happening.
- 1:09:15I mean, you can root for it, but still make a a.
- 1:09:20Like, I'm OK either way. I think I've got educated
- 1:09:23prediction here, I've I. Got a foot in both camps for
- 1:09:26that reason. Here's the thing.
- 1:09:30Diamondbacks beating, the Brewers beating a Which reminds
- 1:09:37me, you keep going. Sorry, Brewers beating.
- 1:09:42And then Diamondbacks beating just a sleepwalking Dodgers pull
- 1:09:49it off. Against a look, this was a
- 1:09:52fumble. This was a big bag fumble.
- 1:09:55This was a flop by the Phillies. Again, a good ball club, the
- 1:10:01Diamondbacks. The Rangers have gone through a
- 1:10:08path to beat the Rays, to beat the Orioles, to beat the Astros.
- 1:10:17They have gone through some stuff.
- 1:10:21They have proven series in series in series over again that
- 1:10:30this is their time. So boats you with the trophy.
- 1:10:41Give me. Give me Corey Seager with the
- 1:10:47MVP in six games, please. Give me a freaking clincher win
- 1:10:58at home. I'm tired of seeing these clinch
- 1:11:01wins on the road. It's not fun to watch.
- 1:11:05I need to see a crowd just go crazy with the fans.
- 1:11:09I mean with the with the players.
- 1:11:10One time, please. You're going 6 at home in
- 1:11:14Arlington At home. In Arlington.
- 1:11:18All right, so I'm going Rangers in five.
- 1:11:20I got to get my MVP pick. I'm not going Garcia.
- 1:11:27That's too easy. And the odds of that happening
- 1:11:32aren't aren't. I mean, I don't.
- 1:11:34How many times has somebody won back-to-back?
- 1:11:36MVPSI don't know. I do not know.
- 1:11:43Probably never. I'm going to say I for these for
- 1:11:50these MVP like series specific MVPS, not like season full 162
- 1:11:55MVPS for like the series MVPSI like going a little bit off the
- 1:11:59wall every now and now. I wanted to go off when I said
- 1:12:02Jonah Heim, but because like you look at the NLCS it's like OK,
- 1:12:07Corbin Carroll Zach Gallon the those are probably the the
- 1:12:12leaders in the clubhouse for that could could tell Martagos
- 1:12:15that wins it. So it's not extremely far
- 1:12:18fetched to say that somebody like honestly you know who's
- 1:12:24kind of been surprising me this series or this postseason.
- 1:12:28Mitch Garver. Mitch Garver.
- 1:12:30Yeah, dude. Me too.
- 1:12:32Like, is that is that kind of is that like a weird?
- 1:12:36I mean it's it's probably not a probably not a favorite, but I
- 1:12:41don't understand. How he suddenly become like a
- 1:12:45like a feared power hitter. But I don't know, man, and I'm
- 1:12:49here. For it, maybe I go Mitch Carver.
- 1:12:53I mean, Corey Seeger's is a solid pick, but like I said,
- 1:12:57it's a cop out. Pic.
- 1:12:58I won't. I like no, no, no.
- 1:12:59I mean it's but like I always say it's a like it's a smart
- 1:13:03like you're nobody's going to judge you for picking Corey
- 1:13:05Seeger. I'm going to get judged for for
- 1:13:08going Mitch Garver. But you know like I said I like
- 1:13:10to go off the wall a little bit. Let's go Mitch Garver.
- 1:13:12Well, can I? Change mine.
- 1:13:14I want to change mine. All right.
- 1:13:17Nathan Eiraldi. Oh, OK, man, that's good, right?
- 1:13:23I rarely do I think about the arms for the MVP, but yeah, I
- 1:13:26know I. Mean that's a that you because.
- 1:13:29If he throws game one, is he going to throw game one?
- 1:13:33He's got to throw game one maybe, I don't know.
- 1:13:35Montgomery has been doing his same.
- 1:13:38So if he goes, game two would be better because then he would
- 1:13:41line up for Game 6. I don't think he.
- 1:13:45I don't think. I really doubt money would get
- 1:13:48game one going two and a third on in game seven.
- 1:13:52Although that was Monday. Yeah.
- 1:13:55Yeah. I I think they'd want to have
- 1:13:58him go game probably. Yeah.
- 1:14:01Gotta be Nate, I don't know. But.
- 1:14:05Then you get like you're talking about Alec Thomas and Corbin
- 1:14:08Carroll going lefty lefty there, getting Katel Marte off the
- 1:14:13lefty side, pushing him over to the right side.
- 1:14:24Yeah, short rest, though, it doesn't really make sense.
- 1:14:29Nivaldi, you going Nivaldi? No, I can't.
- 1:14:34You can have them if you want. I'm going back to Seeger.
- 1:14:37Can I make? Yeah.
- 1:14:37Can I make a switch? Do you have a switch?
- 1:14:40Yes, but do I want to switch though?
- 1:14:42Because I I was thinking about that earlier today.
- 1:14:46I'm like, you know, every now and then something like that
- 1:14:49just pops in my brain without even me really having to think
- 1:14:52too hard about it. And usually I try to go with
- 1:14:56that. And Garba was the guy that came
- 1:14:58to mind. Stick with it.
- 1:14:59It's big game made though, I know.
- 1:15:04I mean, let's see game one. And then he'll probably get Game
- 1:15:155, right? Yeah.
- 1:15:18I mean you have a travel day mix in there, so.
- 1:15:21If you're talking them finishing out in five, I'm assuming you're
- 1:15:28going to see two. I mean, if he goes, I honestly,
- 1:15:33I don't even know how they've been using that staff this
- 1:15:36postseason in terms of rest. But I mean, if he went the 5th
- 1:15:41day, that'd be game four. He goes Friday, we got game two
- 1:15:49Saturday, travel day Sunday 3-4 would be the 5th day right?
- 1:15:59Here I don't know none of neither Mitch Garver of course.
- 1:16:03Here. Yeah, I'll stick with Garver.
- 1:16:05OK, good stuff. Episode 3398.
- 1:16:14Come in at some point in the middle of this.
- 1:16:19But 400 is going to be a recap episode.
- 1:16:24So yeah, I'm going to need this to go.
- 1:16:27I don't know. It's going to be weird, dude,
- 1:16:30because the travel day is on Sunday, right?
- 1:16:36Friday. Saturday.
- 1:16:37OK, yeah. So maybe we could.
- 1:16:39Yeah, maybe we do like a like a Sunday night.
- 1:16:46Get it out there and yeah, drop it for Monday.
- 1:16:49Maybe we'd do something like that.
- 1:16:51Yeah, 'cause I was like, I'm not trying to record on a Saturday
- 1:16:54night after game two me. Neither.
- 1:16:58All right, 390 9 coming to you sometime early next week,
- 1:17:01hopefully. Any other takeaways?
- 1:17:06Any other thoughts? Any other predictions before we
- 1:17:08get out of here? Shout out D backs, shout out
- 1:17:12Rangers. It's a heck of a weird match up,
- 1:17:16but you know, this is what's beautiful about baseball.
- 1:17:20It's been a wild one. I don't know.
- 1:17:25I better not see any roll call happening in Arlington.
- 1:17:30That's my Oh my gosh, What's that thing they say about lions
- 1:17:34and the opinions of sheep and all that?
- 1:17:36You've been set on this roll call thing for months now.
- 1:17:40I got nothing. Else just let it go.
- 1:17:43Not much of A lion anymore. Just let it go.
- 1:17:47That's true. Yeah.
- 1:17:48So really, we're just talking about sheep, worrying about the
- 1:17:51other, the opinions of other sheep.
- 1:17:53Yeah. OK.
- 1:17:54That's fair. Which is fair?
- 1:17:55Which other? I think sheep do that.
- 1:17:57That's fair game. You're right.
- 1:17:58Allow it. They're talking.
- 1:17:59Noise to each other all the time.
- 1:18:02Yeah. All right.
- 1:18:03If, if, if you want to be bothered by this roll call in
- 1:18:06into December, that's fine. That's OK.
- 1:18:12Yeah. Credit D backs Credit Rangers 2
- 1:18:17completely different styles of baseball.
- 1:18:19But like I said, that's that's what's beautiful about this
- 1:18:22game. We will see how it plays out.
- 1:18:25Both teams bringing in different strengths, both teams bringing
- 1:18:29in different weaknesses. We shall see how it plays out.
- 1:18:33I think there's going to be some good pitching matchups in there.
- 1:18:36You know you're going to get your your doses of offense from
- 1:18:40time to time. Should the trends continue from
- 1:18:46the LCS games, but at in terms of like excitement on scale of 1
- 1:18:57to 10, it's so it's so hard for me.
- 1:18:59Not because I'm a guy without a dog in the fight here.
- 1:19:05I just don't even know what number to assign it because I
- 1:19:09just. I feel like I blinked and we're
- 1:19:13dealt the D backs and Rangers just.
- 1:19:18Could have done so much better. I've got like a 6.5 to be honest
- 1:19:22that that number comes to mind. I'm going to hold out hope that
- 1:19:26they find a way to give us some exciting.
- 1:19:28I just want good. Baseball.
- 1:19:29So I hope we get that fair. Who do you think brings the
- 1:19:37better of the two teams now? Now that the bank is out of it?
- 1:19:41Who do you think brings the best home field advantage to this
- 1:19:43series? I.
- 1:19:48Don't know, maybe You got to pick.
- 1:19:52One chase looked like it was kind of jumping I yeah, you
- 1:19:56know, I I kind of I kind of ragged on them a little bit, but
- 1:19:59I think they showed out people around here.
- 1:20:01Have already looked at tickets. Upper deck was going for 300
- 1:20:05before this dub, so going to go ahead and assume that's north of
- 1:20:11north of four now. No thanks.
- 1:20:17I just want. Some good baseball.
- 1:20:18I think you're right. But yeah, we will D back dog at
- 1:20:21home. We we will.
- 1:20:24We'll check in with you guys a couple to a few games into this
- 1:20:28series sometime early next week, but other than that, that's all
- 1:20:33I got. This is sad.
- 1:20:40It's almost over. Season is almost over.
- 1:20:44Oh well, don't go chasing curveballs, guys.
- 1:20:47We love you all. And as always, looking forward
- 1:20:49to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 1:20:50Until next time, stay filthy.
