- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on Seminole Nation? It's CJ Wilson here
- 0:02Speaker 1: with Dope Talk. We got some absolute breaking news for
- 0:05Speaker 1: you guys. As you can see, I'm in my damn
- 0:07Speaker 1: car getting this video off. I'm moving around throughout my day.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Had to bring you this information. Of course, I'm pretty
- 0:13Speaker 1: sure you guys already saw it. FSU has decided to
- 0:18Speaker 1: part ways with Athletic Director Michael Alfred. Some breaking news
- 0:21Speaker 1: that just broke this morning. FSU has decided to part ways.
- 0:25Speaker 1: with current, well, I guess you could say former athletic director,
- 0:29Speaker 1: Michael Alford. Make sure you guys hit that like button
- 0:31Speaker 1: and subscribe to the channel if you haven't already. So
- 0:34Speaker 1: pretty much this is just the wheels kind of getting
- 0:36Speaker 1: in motion in regards to what's going to happen with
- 0:39Speaker 1: the future of FSU football.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Move on the fire, Mike Alford.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Shocking news as far as the timing, but not so
- 0:51Speaker 1: shocking if you kind of follow the tea leaves or
- 0:53Speaker 1: just been kind of hearing the rumbles around the program
- 0:56Speaker 1: and what may happen as far as the future of
- 0:59Speaker 1: Mike Norvell. I guess you could put two and two
- 1:00Speaker 1: together now with the firing of Athletic Director Michael Alford.
- 1:05Speaker 1: It's only a matter of time for Mike Norvell, I
- 1:08Speaker 1: do think. it'd be a process where the new athletic
- 1:11Speaker 1: director is hired and he fires Mike Norvell and hires
- 1:16Speaker 1: his own football head coach, you know, due to, you know,
- 1:19Speaker 1: once he comes in, bring his, bring his guy, his
- 1:21Speaker 1: own guy. And as far as being a head football
- 1:24Speaker 1: coach with the new athletic director, um, And to be honest,
- 1:28Speaker 1: which I do think this decision is kind of, he
- 1:31Speaker 1: laid his bed with extending Mike Norvell or giving Mike
- 1:35Speaker 1: Norvell that huge extension. I'm not fighting Michael Alford. I
- 1:39Speaker 1: feel like he, as athletic director at the time, he
- 1:41Speaker 1: had to do that. You had to give him some
- 1:43Speaker 1: new money. I guess my only question would be how
- 1:45Speaker 1: many years that Mike Norvell has got on the extension
- 1:50Speaker 1: but that's another conversation that was my only I guess
- 1:52Speaker 1: you could say question mark but if you read the
- 1:55Speaker 1: tea leaves of the fan base the whole Nick Saban
- 1:57Speaker 1: thing going to Alabama can you lose our coach to
- 2:00Speaker 1: Bama can't let him do this can't let him do
- 2:01Speaker 1: that we gotta retain our coach that type of deal
- 2:04Speaker 1: and that's what Mike Alfred did he pretty much gave
- 2:09Speaker 1: the fans what they wanted and extended Mike Norvell at
- 2:11Speaker 1: that point in time coming off the 2013 season assessed
- 2:15Speaker 1: for 22 to 22 and 23 I forget how many
- 2:19Speaker 1: games or so we won in the world during that
- 2:21Speaker 1: point in time.
- 2:22Speaker 2: And shout out to Jimmy Sexton.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Like I said, multiple times he pretty much got multiple
- 2:28Speaker 1: head coaches paid, new extensions, whatever it may be, due
- 2:32Speaker 1: to that one domino effect of.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Nick Saban retired.
- 2:38Speaker 1: A plethora of head coaches got new deals at their
- 2:40Speaker 1: current school, and they also got, you know, or new
- 2:44Speaker 1: deals at their current school or a was actually hired
- 2:47Speaker 1: by Alabama and Kevin DeBoer, who's also a client of
- 2:50Speaker 1: Jimmy Sexton. But when you lose 19 of your last
- 2:53Speaker 1: 25 FBS games, I mean, come on now.
- 2:56Speaker 2: The writing's on the wall. So I do feel like Alfred.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Tying himself to Norvell and being a little bit too
- 3:04Speaker 1: loyal to Mike Norvell is one of the reasons he
- 3:07Speaker 1: got canned. I think that should have been the decision
- 3:09Speaker 1: as far as firing Mike Norvell. It should have happened
- 3:12Speaker 1: last year, in my opinion, after the Stanford game. As
- 3:15Speaker 1: a result, you pretty much got yourself fired by kind
- 3:17Speaker 1: of tying yourself to the situation. But my only my
- 3:21Speaker 1: biggest act, so to speak, with Michael Alford, as far
- 3:24Speaker 1: as the job he's done with FSU, is just the
- 3:30Speaker 1: the rev share and distribution thing.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I know the 20 million dollar cap that was raised.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Ruled by the NCAA, pretty much following those guidelines and
- 3:39Speaker 1: not being proactive in this new era as far as NIL.
- 3:42Speaker 1: As you guys know, a lot of the big-time programs
- 3:46Speaker 1: are not following that $ 20 million threshold, so to speak,
- 3:50Speaker 1: for the NIL portion or the rev share or whatever
- 3:54Speaker 1: it may be. They're tapping into the collectives that we
- 3:57Speaker 1: pretty much had at one point in time when battle
- 3:59Speaker 1: was in, but they're tapping into their collectives to fund
- 4:01Speaker 1: the remaining balances to Well, not remaining balance. It's just
- 4:05Speaker 1: a bridge to get between $ 20 million and whatever else
- 4:09Speaker 1: is needed to compete in college football to this day.
- 4:11Speaker 1: So that's my only gripe with that is not being
- 4:14Speaker 1: proactive with this NIL dollars and bending the rules, so
- 4:19Speaker 1: to speak, because everyone else is doing it, just speaking frankly.
- 4:22Speaker 1: But there's a lot of good things that Michael Alford
- 4:24Speaker 1: did do for Florida State, in my opinion, to kind
- 4:26Speaker 1: of lay the groundwork for the next step in competing
- 4:30Speaker 1: and being competitive. National contenders on an annual basis, of course,
- 4:36Speaker 1: stadium renovations. I feel like modernizing dope was a big
- 4:40Speaker 1: piece to continue to get money into the program, right?
- 4:44Speaker 1: Whether it's ticket sales, the old modernization entertainment style as
- 4:49Speaker 1: far as the box seats and the the club level
- 4:53Speaker 1: stuff and all that type of deal, having events in
- 4:56Speaker 1: the offseason to bring revenue in, the football-only facility, top
- 5:00Speaker 1: of the line, one of the best in the country
- 5:01Speaker 1: by far. Mike Alford definitely specialized in facility building and
- 5:07Speaker 1: that type of deal, and I feel like he did
- 5:08Speaker 1: a really good job in that regard as second to none.
- 5:11Speaker 1: He also did force the ACC into the rail sharing deal.
- 5:15Speaker 1: As you guys know, that was a terrible deal that
- 5:16Speaker 1: we got into pretty much a 360 deal. contract deal
- 5:20Speaker 1: when it comes to rap and that type of stuff.
- 5:23Speaker 1: It wasn't a 360 deal pretty damn much with the
- 5:26Speaker 1: ACC as far as distribution for TV rail sharing. Alfred
- 5:31Speaker 1: Spearhead did that. So a lot of good things he
- 5:35Speaker 1: did do. He did end up, he was the lead,
- 5:38Speaker 1: he was the leader on the charge of pinning the GOR,
- 5:42Speaker 1: the G-O-R, as well. He just laid the groundwork for
- 5:46Speaker 1: a lot of things as far as FSU getting out
- 5:48Speaker 1: of the conference, getting out of the ACC and landing
- 5:51Speaker 1: in a new spot. Pretty much when nobody else did it,
- 5:54Speaker 1: Alfred was one of the few that jumped in front
- 5:56Speaker 1: of everything and took the run.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Of course, FSU got.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Crucified, as far as you know, going against the conference
- 6:04Speaker 1: and that type of deal. And the rest of the
- 6:06Speaker 1: league pretty much started falling in line with the rest
- 6:07Speaker 1: of the teams in the league that actually matter from
- 6:11Speaker 1: a TV standpoint started falling in line.
- 6:14Speaker 2: And you see the results from that. So again, good
- 6:15Speaker 2: stuff from Alfred on that end.
- 6:16Speaker 1: So the only X in my opinion is a bad
- 6:20Speaker 1: football product as a result of Mike Norvell failing.
- 6:24Speaker 2: And again, the.
- 6:27Speaker 1: NIL distribution, rail sharing, whatever it may be. But you
- 6:30Speaker 1: can kind of put the two leagues together. This is
- 6:32Speaker 1: the first domino to fall. I think the next one
- 6:35Speaker 1: will be to hire the athletic director. And right after that,
- 6:37Speaker 1: I think Mike Norvell will be fired just a matter
- 6:40Speaker 1: of time, in my opinion, as the new athletic director
- 6:42Speaker 1: will want to make his own hire.
- 6:44Speaker 2: For the football head coach.
- 6:46Speaker 1: But, again, you go out and lay a goose egg
- 6:49Speaker 1: against Alabama, I think that spread is like 20 points now.
- 6:55Speaker 1: If they cover the spread and it's a lot uglier
- 6:57Speaker 1: than that, then. We could get some more news next week,
- 6:59Speaker 1: so we'll see how things play out. Again, like I said,
- 7:01Speaker 1: this is some breaking, breaking news. As you guys can see,
- 7:04Speaker 1: wasn't prepared at all, really, as I'm in my car
- 7:08Speaker 1: recording this video.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Had to get it out to you guys. Breaking news.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Mike Norvell, well, not Mike Norvell. That'll probably be coming soon.
- 7:15Speaker 1: But Michael Alfred has been fired as the athletic director
- 7:18Speaker 1: for Florida State. Make sure you guys hit that like button,
- 7:19Speaker 1: subscribe to the channel.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Go Nose.
