- 0:00Okay, Chelsea, this is a follow -up to a story,
- 0:02another chain of stories that we've been following.
- 0:05This one comes from Reuters, written on April
- 0:0813th, 2026. Apparently just by Reuters. Nobody
- 0:12wants to put their name to this one. You don't
- 0:14want to call it Reuters? Oh, this is a really
- 0:18short story. I'm going to pick a different one
- 0:20really quick here. Okay. It was about the hippos,
- 0:24but they apparently just like made a decision
- 0:26and that's it. It's a paragraph. Damn it. Why
- 0:31did you tell me? You know, let's just cover this
- 0:32story really quick. Yeah, now I need to know
- 0:34what decision they made. Colombia to control
- 0:38hippo population through euthanasia. Oh, no.
- 0:40Colombia will launch a plan in the second half
- 0:42of 2026 to control its invasive hippo population,
- 0:45including euthanizing an initial 80 animals.
- 0:48South American country is home to 200 hippos.
- 0:51Population could increase to as many as 1 ,000
- 0:53in 2035, Velez said. We must act to reduce the
- 0:57hippo population. These actions are essential
- 0:59to protect our ecosystems and our native species.
- 1:02End quote. Velez, which I didn't start, Velez
- 1:05told journalists, noting that population growth
- 1:07threatens species like river turtles and manatees
- 1:09and causes water pollution. Well, we believe
- 1:12that there may be approximately 80 individuals
- 1:14that could be subject to the measure of euthanasia.
- 1:16And then the rest is everything that we know.
- 1:19Oh man, that's so sad. I really didn't want to
- 1:22hear that decision. I thought they were trying
- 1:23to sell them to zoos in other countries. I don't
- 1:26know if that's true. Yeah, me too. Honestly.
- 1:28But who would have thought that that is ridiculously
- 1:31hard? Yeah. Okay, this one might be a little
- 1:34bit longer. So let's go with this one. This is
- 1:36from BBC Science Focus. Written on April 12,
- 1:402026 by Dr. Claire Asher. Article title, Mystery
- 1:44Skyquakes are ripping through the world and nobody
- 1:47knows why. This seems familiar. If you've ever
- 1:50heard a loud distant booming noise with no obvious
- 1:52explanation like a thunderstorm or a car backfiring,
- 1:55then you might have experienced a skyquake. Skyquakes
- 1:58have been reported around the world. Locals have
- 2:00different names for them in different regions.
- 2:03Near Seneca in New York State, they're known
- 2:05as Seneca guns. In Belgium, they're called Mistpuffers.
- 2:09And the Japanese refer to them as Umanari, which
- 2:12literally means cries from the sea. Many explanations
- 2:15have been put forward, including solar flares,
- 2:17shallow earthquakes, offshore tsunamis, collapsing
- 2:19underwater caves, and avalanches. Other believes
- 2:21they're sonic booms from military aircrafts.
- 2:24But this can't explain historical reports of
- 2:27skyquakes. Some scientists have suggested that
- 2:29a type of meteor called a bolide could be the
- 2:31cause. These space rocks explode when they hit
- 2:34Earth's atmosphere. If this happened above thick
- 2:36clouds, the sound could be amplified across a
- 2:39wide area, but no physical evidence could reach
- 2:42the ground. alternative explanation is gas escaping
- 2:45from lake sediments several hot spots for skyquake
- 2:49activity are close to large deep lakes such as
- 2:51Seneca but skyquakes have also been reported
- 2:54away from such bodies of water In 2020, researchers
- 2:58at the University of North Carolina cross -referenced
- 3:01local news articles with data collected by a
- 3:03network of atmospheric sensors and seismographs.
- 3:06They were unable to identify any earthquake activity
- 3:09that coincided with the events, so they concluded
- 3:12the sound must be coming from the atmosphere.
- 3:14Given the diversity of locations and explanations,
- 3:16it's possible that skyquakes in different parts
- 3:18of the world have different causes. But for now,
- 3:21their true cause, or causes, remains a mystery.
- 3:24And that's the end of the article. Wow, I have
- 3:26two very short articles for you guys today. I
- 3:29like how you prefaced that by saying this one's
- 3:31going to be really long. Ah, yeah. I mean, in
- 3:36comparison, it is. And that's what we do everything
- 3:39in, in comparison to the other article we had
- 3:41to read for this. Yep, exactly. I was really
- 3:45hoping for a little bit more information on that
- 3:47one. Me too. Especially when you saw a doctor
- 3:51wrote it. Yeah. Perhaps, like, I don't know,
- 3:54an example? not just hearsay of what it might
- 3:57be because he had no ideas he just gave examples
- 4:00of what could potentially be it and they didn't
- 4:03even say angels blowing their freaking horns
- 4:05because the rapture is happening it's true that's
- 4:08a huge option of what it could be it was just
- 4:10totally disregarded just because we weren't all
- 4:14raptured up as if it's not even a possibility
- 4:18huh They didn't even say dinosaur ghost word.
- 4:21Yeah. I got dinosaur ghost on the phone. Yeah,
- 4:23I didn't think of that as a possibility. Those
- 4:27are all dinosaur ghost hotspots, I'm assuming.
- 4:31God. Anyhow, you guys got 48 hours. You could
- 4:34probably write longer articles than that and
- 4:37speculate even more. Send them to us. Have fun
- 4:39with it. Yeah. Bye. Bye.
