- 0:00Speaker 1: And Football at Four is powered by the Inside of the
- 0:03Speaker 1: Birds podcast. It is brought to you by the Fanatics
- 0:05Speaker 1: Sports book at Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City. Game
- 0:08Speaker 1: day hits different at Ocean, and this week hits different
- 0:12Speaker 1: for Football at four. It is the start of Eagles
- 0:14Speaker 1: training camp. The Birds report tomorrow. Before they do, we've
- 0:18Speaker 1: got ten big questions getting ready for Eagles training camp
- 0:22Speaker 1: and Jeff Moocher and the Inside of the Bird's crew
- 0:24Speaker 1: are back for another Eagles season. You know, it was
- 0:27Speaker 1: on this day, Jeff Moscher, we did this in the
- 0:29Speaker 1: two o'clock hour. It was on this day in twenty
- 0:32Speaker 1: eighteen when the Eagles reported to training camp as Super
- 0:35Speaker 1: Bowl champions, stepped on the field as defending champions for
- 0:39Speaker 1: the first time. And now this team looking to get
- 0:42Speaker 1: back to the Super Bowl. Isn't it crazy? They won
- 0:44Speaker 1: a Super Bowl, then they won another Super Bowl, and
- 0:46Speaker 1: now expectations are super Bowl or bust pretty much?
- 0:50Speaker 2: Is that fair? Yeah?
- 0:51Speaker 3: It's kind of funny because you know, late mid to
- 0:53Speaker 3: late Andy rid era and then all the way through
- 0:56Speaker 3: it felt like every year the Eagles had Super Bowl expectations,
- 1:00Speaker 3: but they were the quote unquote same old Eagles, something
- 1:03Speaker 3: would go wrong and they would never win it, and
- 1:05Speaker 3: then they finally broke through in twenty seventeen. And I
- 1:09Speaker 3: don't think anybody would have thought five six years later
- 1:13Speaker 3: they would be back to two more and have already
- 1:15Speaker 3: won their second one that soon, given like fifty two
- 1:19Speaker 3: years of history that said otherwise.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So it's been pretty cool, right, And yeah, it's not.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I don't think expectations are that different from even the
- 1:27Speaker 3: Andy Reta. It's just they actually have finally won it,
- 1:30Speaker 3: and so now people say, there's no more, no excuses,
- 1:33Speaker 3: you know, how to do it?
- 1:34Speaker 2: Keep doing it. We got they got some division rivals
- 1:37Speaker 2: they got to catch, you know.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yeah, well you know obviously the Eagles. You know, Lebron
- 1:43Speaker 1: James signs with the Sixers. Is that quite as big
- 1:47Speaker 1: as the Eagles training camp starting tomorrow? What do you think?
- 1:50Speaker 2: I think? I think might it might be the one
- 1:52Speaker 2: thing that's a little bit bigger, Mike.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Unbelievable, unbelievable. It's not really set in has it, Like
- 1:59Speaker 1: Lebron James for the Sixers. It's great. I have the
- 2:01Speaker 1: press release in my email and it says twenty two
- 2:05Speaker 1: time All Star. You know, I'm just like you're just
- 2:09Speaker 1: floored by because the Eagles, they've had some big signings,
- 2:12Speaker 1: but no really had a team of like super duper stars.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:20Speaker 3: In fact, I wrote a column about this on Philly
- 2:22Speaker 3: Voice the day after Lebron signed or announce sign because
- 2:26Speaker 3: we had a meeting and we were trying to figure
- 2:28Speaker 3: out some kind of equivalent to Philadelphia Sports equivalent to
- 2:33Speaker 3: Lebron James's signing, and it was really hard to find one.
- 2:37Speaker 3: You can find elite players like Terrell Owens and Moses
- 2:41Speaker 3: Malone as a trade. We went through all the acquisitions.
- 2:43Speaker 3: It didn't have to be a free agency Pete Rose,
- 2:47Speaker 3: you know, Zach Wheeler, I mean, all the great Chris Pronger,
- 2:50Speaker 3: but none of them are truly apples to apples.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I mean none of them were.
- 2:54Speaker 3: All of them are great, but none were considered among
- 2:57Speaker 3: the top three greatest of all time right at your sport.
- 3:02Speaker 2: And then not all some of them were in their heyday.
- 3:04Speaker 3: This is more I guess Pete Rosis as far as
- 3:07Speaker 3: missing piece downside.
- 3:09Speaker 2: But even as great as Pete.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Rose was, the hit king and all, he is not
- 3:13Speaker 3: like on the Mount Rushmore of MLB. So it's it's
- 3:17Speaker 3: just such a unique and amazing time for this to happen,
- 3:20Speaker 3: and I think it's.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Really cool, and I agree with you.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I wrote in that story for Philly Voice that it
- 3:26Speaker 3: was a day in which the entire city was kind
- 3:28Speaker 3: of frantic and numb at the same time, because a
- 3:32Speaker 3: lot of people just never thought it was gonna happen, no.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Matter what the reports were. You can count me.
- 3:36Speaker 3: I was always like, Yeah, this is nice, it's never
- 3:38Speaker 3: gonna happen. And then it freaking happened, and we didn't know.
- 3:40Speaker 2: How to react.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Well, let's get into how we're going to react to
- 3:44Speaker 1: these ten questions. Let's go through them real quick. These
- 3:46Speaker 1: are the ten biggest questions we have entering training camp,
- 3:49Speaker 1: which starts tomorrow Mosher Monday. How does jay lt Hurts
- 3:53Speaker 1: adjustice Sean Mannon's new offense. Is that fair to say
- 3:56Speaker 1: that that might be the biggest question?
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 3:59Speaker 3: If I mean, that's the biggest most discussed storyline right
- 4:01Speaker 3: of the off season, is Jalen Hurts and the new
- 4:03Speaker 3: offense and Sean Mannions evolved with it.
- 4:06Speaker 2: And if I were to like add on to it,
- 4:08Speaker 2: a new angle.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Is that there's got to be a certain amount of
- 4:12Speaker 3: patients required to be able to pull that off right,
- 4:19Speaker 3: because it's going to be potentially clunky at the start,
- 4:22Speaker 3: and it may not work exactly the way it's supposed to.
- 4:26Speaker 3: But we're not a patient city, like you know, we've wanted.
- 4:30Speaker 3: When I say we, I mean the media of the
- 4:32Speaker 3: fan base. They've wanted, like Kellen Moore fired after the
- 4:34Speaker 3: first five weeks. Nick Sirianni fired last year after the
- 4:37Speaker 3: first field. Like, this is not a city that has
- 4:40Speaker 3: been patient in general. And then also it's not an
- 4:43Speaker 3: organization that's always patient. When things haven't worked, they've reverted.
- 4:47Speaker 3: So I'm really curious to see what level of patients
- 4:51Speaker 3: they'll have with Jalen Hurts and the new offense and
- 4:54Speaker 3: a first time play caller.
- 4:56Speaker 1: We've talked a lot about it. What happens if this
- 4:58Speaker 1: offense does not work? What are the repercussions? What is
- 5:02Speaker 1: the domino effect? Well, we'll start that. They'll they'll report tomorrow.
- 5:06Speaker 1: They'll step on the field for the first time on Wednesday,
- 5:10Speaker 1: maybe maybe.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Ray, it might be Thursday. Wayne rain might force him
- 5:14Speaker 3: inside Wednesday.
- 5:15Speaker 1: All right, weather man Mosher here today, all right, we'll
- 5:18Speaker 1: see number two. I guess the hierarchy at wide receiver.
- 5:22Speaker 1: The post a J. Brown era is here.
- 5:25Speaker 2: It is.
- 5:26Speaker 3: It's a real I swear I have probably the football
- 5:30Speaker 3: nerd I am. I've put way too much thought into
- 5:33Speaker 3: Nick Sirianni making a very uncanny comparison between Dontavian Wicks.
- 5:40Speaker 2: And Keenan Allen. You couldn't find.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Two receivers built as differently as those two, but he
- 5:47Speaker 3: he referenced Wicks's ability to get in and out of
- 5:53Speaker 3: breaks very similarly to Keenan Allen's, which is fascinating. Keenan
- 5:57Speaker 3: Allen is really a Z inside kind of receiver, whereas
- 6:01Speaker 3: D'antavian Wicks can can.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Work the middle of the field, but to me looks
- 6:05Speaker 2: more like an X.
- 6:06Speaker 3: So I just really fascinated on this secondary target not
- 6:11Speaker 3: named DeVante Smith.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Will it be Wicks? Will it be Leman? Will it be.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Dallas Godder or as we talked about in the podcast
- 6:17Speaker 3: Mike that dropped today for the offensive questions, can the
- 6:21Speaker 3: Eagles replicate what the Seahawks did and make one guy
- 6:27Speaker 3: such a focal point of the pass offense. In Seattle's case,
- 6:30Speaker 3: it was JSN and in this case it would be Wicks.
- 6:33Speaker 3: That you really don't need a secondary option who is
- 6:37Speaker 3: catching six to eight balls a game, you know, because
- 6:40Speaker 3: that's how Seattle did it.
- 6:42Speaker 1: It was unique. Yeah, that's right. I bring Seattle up
- 6:45Speaker 1: a lot is that you had Jackson at the Jigba
- 6:47Speaker 1: and the next couple guys. I mean, we're not a
- 6:49Speaker 1: big part of the offense. They just kind of were
- 6:51Speaker 1: very bit role players and it was mostly Jackson Smith
- 6:54Speaker 1: and Jigba as a receiver in that offense. Number three,
- 7:00Speaker 1: life after Staltlin, how does that change the offensive line
- 7:05Speaker 1: in terms of their importance? With Jeff Stollen, who was
- 7:09Speaker 1: almost a given that the offensive line because of him
- 7:12Speaker 1: was almost a superstar, do you look at the offensive
- 7:17Speaker 1: line the same way.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Well, it's a terrible time to lose a guy like
- 7:20Speaker 3: Jeff Stolin because above all else schematics x's and o's,
- 7:25Speaker 3: he was a great developer of talent at that position,
- 7:30Speaker 3: guys who were not first round picks, right, I mean
- 7:33Speaker 3: there were some who are, but like the Jordan my
- 7:35Speaker 3: lott Is of the world, or the reclamation first round
- 7:37Speaker 3: pick like Makai Beckton. You know, everybody who almost everybody
- 7:42Speaker 3: who played for Jeff Stealtlin on the offensive line got better.
- 7:46Speaker 2: And now you come into a time where that you
- 7:49Speaker 2: have a lot of.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Aging guys on the offensive line, and they got some
- 7:52Speaker 4: beat up guys on the offensive line, and they've assembled
- 7:55Speaker 4: a lot of young talent from Mark el Bell to
- 7:58Speaker 4: Cameron Williams to Drew to Miles Hinton, I mean, Micah Morris.
- 8:03Speaker 3: You look, they've got a lot of home grown, young
- 8:06Speaker 3: developmental offensive linemen who are not first round picks, right,
- 8:11Speaker 3: and Chris Cooper is now the guy who's being tasked
- 8:14Speaker 3: to not only develop them, but kind of have to
- 8:17Speaker 3: do it in the shadows of a guy like Jeff
- 8:20Speaker 3: Stellton who's a legendary talent developer. And then you add
- 8:23Speaker 3: the responsibility that he's teaching them a new blocking.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Even a new way things to do it.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Yeah, well, on that, I would guess another question would be,
- 8:33Speaker 1: is lank Johnson one hundred percent? And can you know
- 8:37Speaker 1: and who's the swing tackle? Can this configuration be counted on?
- 8:41Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 8:42Speaker 3: I mean, right now we go into camp, it's Fred Johnson,
- 8:44Speaker 3: and I think that's a pretty safe job. You know,
- 8:48Speaker 3: we'll see if Mark l Bell could somehow figure out
- 8:51Speaker 3: a way to maybe play cross train a little bit
- 8:53Speaker 3: of left tackle. And I know NFL personnel people only
- 8:56Speaker 3: thought he could play right tackle and.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Maybe right guard if he had the right kind of tutelage.
- 9:01Speaker 2: So we'll see there.
- 9:02Speaker 3: I mean again, I mentioned Cameron Williams and hitting Holland Pierce.
- 9:05Speaker 2: They've got a lot of a lot of guys here.
- 9:07Speaker 3: But to your lane Johnson point, Mike, it's a really
- 9:10Speaker 3: good question. I mean that that is severe injury that
- 9:12Speaker 3: Liz frank shiealed now, but that's his kickslide leg, you know,
- 9:16Speaker 3: his right leg for a right tackle, and you put
- 9:19Speaker 3: a lot of pounding on it when you're taking your
- 9:21Speaker 3: vertical drops right. You're kicking on that leg all the
- 9:24Speaker 3: time and on that football time. And he's not a
- 9:27Speaker 3: spring chicken. So it'll be interesting to see how he
- 9:29Speaker 3: holds up.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Definitely, you got Fred Johnson and I guess Mark hel Bell.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Do you feel that he is a factor it? You know,
- 9:37Speaker 1: and it's like if you're counting on third round pick
- 9:41Speaker 1: markl Bell to hold down a position for you, that
- 9:44Speaker 1: that will be a very interesting storyline as it happens.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean there, he's going to have to be ready, Mike,
- 9:50Speaker 3: there's no question about it.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Now. Again, they have Fred Johnson as a buffer.
- 9:55Speaker 3: I think if Mark hel Bell develops really well in
- 9:59Speaker 3: camp and they like what they see, that's a great
- 10:01Speaker 3: feather in the cap. If he comes along slowly, then
- 10:05Speaker 3: it just puts more emphasis on Fred Johnson. If Fred
- 10:09Speaker 3: Johnson has to play to get in there and you know,
- 10:13Speaker 3: be able to fit this scheme, which is also new.
- 10:15Speaker 3: And he's kind of a big, tall, hulking guy, not
- 10:18Speaker 3: necessarily like a guy you think of in a wide
- 10:20Speaker 3: zone offense.
- 10:22Speaker 2: You know.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Like again, he didn't make the The Jaguars were willing
- 10:25Speaker 3: to trade him at the end last year and they
- 10:26Speaker 3: run a lot of zone blocking, So we'll see how
- 10:29Speaker 3: that works out.
- 10:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna go to the defensive side of the ball
- 10:33Speaker 1: and go with I guess one of the big questions
- 10:37Speaker 1: over there is Jaha Campbell filling in for Nakobe Dean.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I mean, Dean obviously was an important piece of this team.
- 10:43Speaker 1: He took over for Campbell last year, so much so
- 10:46Speaker 1: that Campbell could barely get back on the field when
- 10:49Speaker 1: Dean came back. So can Campbell fill Dean's role?
- 10:53Speaker 2: Yeah? And there's two parts of that.
- 10:54Speaker 3: There's the football part of it, the acumen, the you know,
- 10:57Speaker 3: the ability to get downhill and stop the RW, coordinate
- 11:01Speaker 3: everybody on defense.
- 11:02Speaker 2: And then there's that leadership aspect of that.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Nikobe Dean was the heart and soul of the defense.
- 11:08Speaker 3: He was the heartbeat of the defense. He was the
- 11:10Speaker 3: organizer of the defense, and that he was so good
- 11:13Speaker 3: at it. I don't know that it's even reasonable or
- 11:16Speaker 3: fair or if the expectation is there for Jahad Campbell
- 11:20Speaker 3: to take that on. It might be like Zach Bond
- 11:22Speaker 3: instead or somebody in the secondary Cooper to gen Quinny
- 11:25Speaker 3: I Mitchell. I don't know, but just like we talked
- 11:27Speaker 3: about with Chris Cooper replacing Stoutlin, there is certainly something
- 11:31Speaker 3: to Jihad Campbell stepping into that role now and having
- 11:36Speaker 3: to have the microscope on him because of the loss
- 11:38Speaker 3: of Nikobe Dean.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Jeff Boscher Football at four. These are ten of the
- 11:43Speaker 1: biggest questions on the Eagles on the eve as they
- 11:46Speaker 1: report tomorrow. Many teams have already reported. Tomorrow is the
- 11:49Speaker 1: last day that teams get actually report, so the Eagles
- 11:52Speaker 1: are waiting all the way to the end of report times.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Here who steps up as the pass rush this season
- 12:02Speaker 1: for this team? Obviously, Jalen Phillips is now here. You've
- 12:05Speaker 1: got Jonathan Grenard, Jalx Hunt, Nolan Smith. Do one of
- 12:09Speaker 1: those guys blossom this year?
- 12:12Speaker 2: It needs to happen.
- 12:13Speaker 3: If this is gonna be a true fearsome pass rush
- 12:17Speaker 3: that can compensate for the fact that Jalen Phillips left
- 12:20Speaker 3: in free agency, then either Grenard has to get back
- 12:23Speaker 3: to being a pro Bowl level pass rusher coming off
- 12:25Speaker 3: of a shoulder injury and a down year, or Jylex Hunt.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Or Nolan Smith have to take a step.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Up and be guys who give you a plus you know,
- 12:37Speaker 3: production week upon week.
- 12:39Speaker 2: You know you can have a bad game here and there.
- 12:40Speaker 2: But Nolan Smith Junior is a guy who's kind of flashes.
- 12:43Speaker 3: He's he's little in consistent. He has great weeks and
- 12:45Speaker 3: then he has ok weeks. Jalx Hunt was fantastic, and
- 12:48Speaker 3: if he keeps developing the way he did over the
- 12:51Speaker 3: last first two years of his career, then you're gonna
- 12:54Speaker 3: have a real nice fine there and a really good player.
- 12:56Speaker 3: But you know, the question to me is does vic
- 12:59Speaker 3: fan fine room for a guy they signed a free
- 13:02Speaker 3: agency who they like in Arnold A.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Wickhetti. Does he play a four man rotation.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Because he hasn't really done that.
- 13:10Speaker 1: That'll be a good one. Hunt. I'm interested to see
- 13:13Speaker 1: if Hunt in year three really takes off, because he
- 13:17Speaker 1: seems like he's ahead of schedule from what they thought
- 13:19Speaker 1: when they drafted him.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Right sure, for sure, absolutely, And you know, to lead
- 13:24Speaker 3: the defense last year at interceptions and sacks, although it's
- 13:28Speaker 3: not like he had double digits of them, but it
- 13:30Speaker 3: was really impressive.
- 13:32Speaker 2: He fits the scheme really well because he.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Can also drop in the coverage as we saw and
- 13:36Speaker 3: make plays along with rushing the passer run defense is good.
- 13:40Speaker 3: There's really no downsides to his game. He just needs
- 13:43Speaker 3: more experience and really needs to learn the art of
- 13:46Speaker 3: pass rushing so that when he goes up against great
- 13:49Speaker 3: tackles week after a week, he can dominate.
- 13:51Speaker 2: He can win some mores there too.
- 13:53Speaker 1: All right, mosha, how about the secondary? How a laite
- 13:57Speaker 1: can the secondary be Mitchell and Wolla and as your
- 14:01Speaker 1: corners and moving Cooper to safety, could this secondary be
- 14:05Speaker 1: better than last year? Obviously you don't have red blanket
- 14:08Speaker 1: ship here. You've added Woolen, You've moved Cooper to Gene
- 14:11Speaker 1: to safety.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:12Speaker 3: I mean, first and foremost, you have to have good
- 14:14Speaker 3: health because you're one safety injury away and one corner
- 14:17Speaker 3: injury away from guys like a thirty three year old
- 14:21Speaker 3: Jonathan Jones, who is the biggest X factor to me
- 14:24Speaker 3: in camp because I thirty three. We saw how quickly
- 14:27Speaker 3: James Bradberry just fell just completely was shot. Right, James
- 14:32Speaker 3: Bradbury had this really nice year All Pro and then
- 14:34Speaker 3: the next year he was just done.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Okay, I don't know what to expect from Jonathan Jones.
- 14:39Speaker 3: It's good that the Egals have a veteran back up
- 14:41Speaker 3: finally and someone that they can think that they can
- 14:43Speaker 3: rely on. But he has to show that or else
- 14:45Speaker 3: you're back to the Jacoryan Bennett and Killie Ringo, you know,
- 14:50Speaker 3: discussion as soon as there's an injury to anybody in
- 14:52Speaker 3: your corner room, and then same thing with safety.
- 14:54Speaker 2: If the jene.
- 14:57Speaker 3: First of all, when he slides to Nickels, somebody's got
- 14:59Speaker 3: to be able to take a spot where it's Michael
- 15:00Speaker 3: Carter the second Marcus EPs, and then if there's injury
- 15:03Speaker 3: to him or Macuba, then you're talking about one of
- 15:05Speaker 3: those two guys moving into a starting role and that's
- 15:08Speaker 3: just not great depth. So first and foremost for this
- 15:10Speaker 3: secondary to be what it wants to be.
- 15:12Speaker 2: It's got to stay healthy. And I feel like they've
- 15:15Speaker 2: had some luck.
- 15:16Speaker 3: I mean last year in Macuba missed time, but for
- 15:18Speaker 3: overall at the corner spot, they've had some pretty good
- 15:21Speaker 3: luck there over the last few years as far as
- 15:23Speaker 3: not suffering any long term injury. So they'll have to that.
- 15:27Speaker 3: That'll have to be big for them, and of course
- 15:29Speaker 3: Riqualan's ability to be consistent. Remember this, the Riquolan is
- 15:34Speaker 3: gonna play be a full time corner, three down, four
- 15:38Speaker 3: down corner.
- 15:39Speaker 2: All right. He was not for Seattle.
- 15:41Speaker 3: They didn't want him on the field in run defense
- 15:44Speaker 3: and he was really only their nickel and big nickel corner.
- 15:48Speaker 3: So but for here, he's gonna occupy a bigger role
- 15:52Speaker 3: and he needs to make sure he a flourishes in
- 15:54Speaker 3: it and b keeps his emotions and check and does
- 15:56Speaker 3: not lead the Eagles in penalty yards like he did
- 15:59Speaker 3: for the Seahawks.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Yeah, he would be the new Derek Barnett possibly here
- 16:04Speaker 1: getting the fifteen yard penalties all the time. He had
- 16:06Speaker 1: a huge one in the NFC Championship game. Many people
- 16:10Speaker 1: remember last year speaking of fifteen yard penalties, Number nine
- 16:15Speaker 1: is this the year, Jalen Carter really has consistent all
- 16:20Speaker 1: pro level play.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I really.
- 16:23Speaker 3: This is something we will discuss on tomorrow's Inside the
- 16:26Speaker 3: Birds podcast that.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Goes through the defense.
- 16:28Speaker 3: But you know, the nagging shoulder injuries. To me, if
- 16:30Speaker 3: you have a nagging shoulder injury and you're like a
- 16:33Speaker 3: wide receiver, it's not that big of a deal. You
- 16:36Speaker 3: could probably play around it, you can give it rest.
- 16:38Speaker 3: But when you have shoulder injuries, nagging shoulder injuries as
- 16:42Speaker 3: a defensive tackle, and you are colliding in the trenches
- 16:46Speaker 3: every single snap, there's no off snap, right like you
- 16:49Speaker 3: you collide every single snap in the trenches, that makes
- 16:53Speaker 3: me more concerned. He did not have surgery. He tried
- 16:56Speaker 3: to go about just strengthening him. I worry that when
- 17:00Speaker 3: you're playing seventeen games a season and you have those
- 17:03Speaker 3: kind of shoulder injuries, is just knocking a hold up.
- 17:05Speaker 3: And I have a feeling the Eagles is concerned about
- 17:07Speaker 3: it too, And that's why as we sit here and
- 17:09Speaker 3: talk right now, he doesn't have a contract extension, But
- 17:12Speaker 3: that to me, could be a big obstacle. If not,
- 17:15Speaker 3: If he's fine, Mike and he can play at an
- 17:17Speaker 3: elite level. He's a terrorizer and the Eagles defense will
- 17:21Speaker 3: be the benefactor of or beneficiary of that kind of
- 17:26Speaker 3: a player commanding double teams on a consistent basis.
- 17:30Speaker 2: But he is a guy who's got to fight those doubles.
- 17:32Speaker 3: He's got to play like a Jeffrey Simmons if he
- 17:35Speaker 3: wants to be paid and recognized like Jeffrey Simmons.
- 17:40Speaker 1: And listen, he showed Eagles, the Eagles what he could
- 17:45Speaker 1: mean to a team that wins the Super Bowl because
- 17:46Speaker 1: without him, that play against the Rams, that's the play
- 17:49Speaker 1: you're looking for. Can you be there in the biggest
- 17:51Speaker 1: moment of the game. Last year against San Francisco they
- 17:53Speaker 1: could not get the stop against the Rams, they got
- 17:56Speaker 1: that stop. So he gets to get back to that
- 17:58Speaker 1: form that he was able to make a big play
- 18:01Speaker 1: in the big moment. The last question number ten would be,
- 18:06Speaker 1: is it fair to ask how much Saquon still has
- 18:09Speaker 1: left as an elite player.
- 18:11Speaker 3: I think it's fair to ask, you know, I really don't.
- 18:14Speaker 3: I don't hold a lot of last year against him
- 18:17Speaker 3: because I believe the data and analytics showed that he
- 18:20Speaker 3: had the least yards before contact in the NFL last
- 18:27Speaker 3: year after having the most the year before. I mean,
- 18:29Speaker 3: he was constantly hit behind the line scrimagerer at the
- 18:32Speaker 3: line of scrimmage, So you know, you have to hope
- 18:35Speaker 3: on offensive line health first and foremost has to be
- 18:38Speaker 3: key for the offense. But you know, even if he's
- 18:41Speaker 3: a tick less explosive or a tick less athletics, he's still.
- 18:47Speaker 2: A super human athlete, So he should be fine. As
- 18:50Speaker 2: long as the blocking in.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Front of him is good, he should be able to
- 18:52Speaker 3: give you top five running back production.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Yeah, well, we'll see. They signed up to that extension
- 19:00Speaker 1: after he had a two thousand yard season, and we'll
- 19:02Speaker 1: see how much ROI they get on that extension, because
- 19:04Speaker 1: this could be it for him, right sure could?
- 19:07Speaker 3: I mean if he doesn't, if it's a bad year
- 19:09Speaker 3: for him. I mean, the guaranteed money I think is
- 19:12Speaker 3: either upper almost all of it is up after this year,
- 19:15Speaker 3: and it would not be like, really, it wouldn't kill
- 19:19Speaker 3: the Eagles in twenty twenty seven if he is I feel.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Like an eleventh bonus question most would be is Jake
- 19:26Speaker 1: Elliott's safe? But they didn't bring anybody in to compete
- 19:29Speaker 1: with him.
- 19:29Speaker 3: No, this is definitely something we talked about that'll be
- 19:32Speaker 3: on tomorrow's podcast. I mean they gave him a pay cut. Okay,
- 19:36Speaker 3: you agree to a pay cut, So that's your first
- 19:39Speaker 3: sign that there's a lack of confidence, because guess what,
- 19:42Speaker 3: they don't cut your pay if they really are really.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Really happy with you.
- 19:45Speaker 3: His numbers tell I mean, he was down to what
- 19:47Speaker 3: seventy six seventy four accuracy from ninety four ninety five
- 19:52Speaker 3: percent two years ago.
- 19:53Speaker 2: It's it was a steep drop and it's been two
- 19:55Speaker 2: year drop.
- 19:57Speaker 3: So I think that they don't want to rattle him
- 20:00Speaker 3: mentally by bringing in somebody right now, you know, after
- 20:04Speaker 3: having him take a pay cup. But two three weeks
- 20:06Speaker 3: in the camp, if they're bringing a kicker in and
- 20:08Speaker 3: the job watch is on, he's gonna be on. He's
- 20:11Speaker 3: still making a lot of money. But they might force
- 20:14Speaker 3: them to say, we need to carry a veteran kicker
- 20:16Speaker 3: on the practice squad just in case.
- 20:18Speaker 2: And if that's the case, then you know that the
- 20:20Speaker 2: end is near.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Well, the Birds report tomorrow and we've got you covered
- 20:24Speaker 1: on Football at four the Inside of the Birds podcast.
- 20:26Speaker 1: They've got you covered all season long. Another season of
- 20:29Speaker 1: Football at four. It all kicks off tomorrow. The birds
- 20:32Speaker 1: report Wednesday. They are scheduled most likely to be on
- 20:35Speaker 1: the field weather permitting, according to Mosher the weather man,
- 20:39Speaker 1: but they will be out there sometime this week. Moshu
- 20:41Speaker 1: will not be. He is heading all a little vacation
- 20:44Speaker 1: before the birds get onto the field, So mooch, have
- 20:48Speaker 1: a great vacation and rest of the weekend. We will
- 20:51Speaker 1: talk to you when you get back.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Man appreciate you have a great one.
