Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: It's the Craig Way Show with the voice of the
- 0:06Speaker 1: Texas Longhorns and Hall of Fame broadcast there Craig Way.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Notre Dame on to attempt a forty eight yard field
- 0:24Speaker 2: goal right now near an end of the first half
- 0:26Speaker 2: between Texas. Sorry, in the first halt between Georgia and
- 0:30Speaker 2: Notre Dame in the All State Sugar Bowl. The College
- 0:32Speaker 2: Football Playoff quarterfinal mitsheet are already success successful from forty three
- 0:40Speaker 2: yards earlier in the game. So now attempting it a
- 0:42Speaker 2: forty eight yarder that would put Notre Dame in front
- 0:45Speaker 2: six to three if he were to make it, and
- 0:48Speaker 2: believe he just did right down the upright, So Notre Dame,
- 0:51Speaker 2: they're first leading this game with thirty eight seconds to
- 0:53Speaker 2: go in the first half, leading six to three over
- 0:57Speaker 2: the Georgia Bulldogs. Again mentioned we had some sound here
- 1:01Speaker 2: from yesterday's postgame show on the Longhorn Radio Network with
- 1:05Speaker 2: Will Matthews and Roger Wallace. Let's get to gunner Hilm
- 1:09Speaker 2: stay on the offense side of the ball. Helm had
- 1:11Speaker 2: these touchdown in the second overtime. The first play twenty
- 1:15Speaker 2: five yards out. Only three catches in this game was
- 1:18Speaker 2: used a lot in running pass blocking situations, but Helm
- 1:23Speaker 2: came up big in the second half, specifically with that
- 1:26Speaker 2: touchdown grab. Here is his postgame conversation with Will Matthews.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Gunner.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Can you talk us through this game and what you saw,
- 1:39Speaker 4: especially early in the game, you guys come out to
- 1:41Speaker 4: plays bam, a little bit of a lull and then
- 1:44Speaker 4: turn it back on late in the game.
- 1:46Speaker 5: Yeah, we stressed the point of jumping on him fast,
- 1:48Speaker 5: and that's exactly what we did, you know, scoring on
- 1:51Speaker 5: the second play of the game.
- 1:52Speaker 3: So you know, we came out.
- 1:53Speaker 5: Hot and then we just got to find a way
- 1:55Speaker 5: to keep that fire going into this, you know, the
- 1:56Speaker 5: second quarter, and you know, the.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Flow of the game was the flow of the game.
- 1:59Speaker 5: I don't think we got more than twenty five plays
- 2:02Speaker 5: in the first half, so you know, we got to
- 2:04Speaker 5: capitalize on our opportunities when they come. But other than that,
- 2:07Speaker 5: just so proud of these guys persevering through the adversity
- 2:11Speaker 5: and uh, you know, there's a lot of fight in
- 2:13Speaker 5: this team and I can't see what we can't wait
- 2:14Speaker 5: to see what we do next week.
- 2:15Speaker 6: Yeah, you talk about adversity, the pick and then the
- 2:19Speaker 6: last three times Quinn touches the ball, touchdown, touchdown, two
- 2:23Speaker 6: point conversion.
- 2:24Speaker 3: What's that say about your quarterback?
- 2:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it says that, you know, he's a
- 2:27Speaker 5: complete competitor. You know, he's one of my one of
- 2:30Speaker 5: my best friends off the field, and uh, you know,
- 2:32Speaker 5: he's the exact same way off the field, just a competitor,
- 2:35Speaker 5: doesn't like to lose at all. But you know when
- 2:37Speaker 5: when when Quinn gets the ball in his hands, it's
- 2:39Speaker 5: dangerous and we know that, and we know that he
- 2:41Speaker 5: can make these plays and we're just super proud of him.
- 2:43Speaker 4: When the game starts to change in momentum shifts, it
- 2:46Speaker 4: can feel almost like sinking. But you guys were able
- 2:50Speaker 4: to focus even though that there was adversity.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Talk us through why.
- 2:54Speaker 5: You know, I think it's uh speaks volumes on how
- 2:56Speaker 5: coach Star gets us ready for the games. He told
- 2:58Speaker 5: us this was exactly what's going to happen. You know,
- 3:00Speaker 5: we knew that they tried to short the game. They
- 3:02Speaker 5: like to try to short the game, and you know
- 3:03Speaker 5: we're going to have limited opportunities, so we had to
- 3:05Speaker 5: make the most for opportunities. But he got us ready
- 3:08Speaker 5: throughout this whole week. He said we were going to
- 3:09Speaker 5: have adversity, and when it struck, we knew how to
- 3:11Speaker 5: I guess get through it.
- 3:13Speaker 6: Your view of a fourth and thirteen, entire season on
- 3:16Speaker 6: the line, and Quinn and Matt come up with that touchdown.
- 3:19Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, it was just heart, heart sank and
- 3:22Speaker 5: just the most relief I've ever felt in my whole life.
- 3:24Speaker 5: But they made a great play. Quinn threw a great
- 3:27Speaker 5: ball and Matt made a great play. He came out complete,
- 3:30Speaker 5: completely clutch for us today and super proud of him
- 3:33Speaker 5: and his efforts.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Gonna talk about this defense and what they bring. You
- 3:37Speaker 4: guys are really complimentary. They do their thing, you do
- 3:40Speaker 4: their thing. Talk about that connection.
- 3:42Speaker 5: The Yeah, I don't think that we were very complimentary
- 3:44Speaker 5: early on in the season. I think that we kind
- 3:46Speaker 5: of hung them out to dry a couple times early
- 3:48Speaker 5: on in the season. But just as we grew as
- 3:49Speaker 5: a football team and we started to establish a run
- 3:52Speaker 5: game and getting all of our playmakers to ball in
- 3:54Speaker 5: their hands, you know, I think that we really started
- 3:56Speaker 5: to put the defense in the best situation that we
- 3:58Speaker 5: possibly could because that's our job. We want to keep
- 4:00Speaker 5: them off the field. We need lomb drives, keep them
- 4:03Speaker 5: off the field. Keep them fresh, keep them healthy, keep
- 4:05Speaker 5: them ready.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Gunner, thank you so much for your time. Enjoy this one.
- 4:08Speaker 3: See you in dat sir, see you guys in Dallas.
- 4:11Speaker 2: It's two straight games that Gunner Helms had two big
- 4:14Speaker 2: touchdowns on the College Football Playoffs, being the College Football
- 4:17Speaker 2: Playoff Notre Dame forcing another turnover, stripsacking Gunner stocked and
- 4:23Speaker 2: recovered by Notre Dame. First play touchdown, Fighting Irish their
- 4:27Speaker 2: first touchdown of the game. Riley Leonard throwing a touchdown
- 4:30Speaker 2: pass the Collins over the middle, Notre Dame a chance
- 4:33Speaker 2: to go up thirteen to three at the end of
- 4:35Speaker 2: the first half. What a flip in this game.
- 4:39Speaker 3: It was three to three.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Georgia with the football and now the Dogs may be
- 4:43Speaker 2: going into halftime yet again trailing in their second member
- 4:47Speaker 2: the Trelligaans Texas in the NCIT title game have not
- 4:50Speaker 2: played since then. Looks like they'll be trailing at halftime
- 4:53Speaker 2: going into this one as the extra point on the
- 4:56Speaker 2: way is good. Thirteen to three, Fighting Irish leading Georgia
- 4:59Speaker 2: in the College Football player Off quarterfinal at the Sugar Bowl. Okay,
- 5:02Speaker 2: I was Gunner helm Now onto the man who had
- 5:06Speaker 2: the game ceiling interception, Andrew mccooba.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Come and waiting for a lifetime for your fifth interception.
- 5:12Speaker 7: I mean, this whole thing really started when we was
- 5:15Speaker 7: down and you know, it was getting ready.
- 5:17Speaker 1: To go out.
- 5:18Speaker 7: You know, I told jay Ay man you the leader,
- 5:20Speaker 7: bring you the leader of his team, you know, bring
- 5:21Speaker 7: everybody together and pick the defense up man, because the
- 5:24Speaker 7: energy was low. And he got everybody together, taught to everybody,
- 5:27Speaker 7: picked the energy up, and on that on that same on,
- 5:29Speaker 7: that same driver went out. Though obviously we got the
- 5:32Speaker 7: game winning h we got the game winning interception, but
- 5:34Speaker 7: you know it all started with Jaday getting those guys together,
- 5:37Speaker 7: talking to those guys, you know, lifting those guys up
- 5:39Speaker 7: and telling them we got to pick this energy up.
- 5:41Speaker 3: So he really started with him.
- 5:42Speaker 6: You say that, and then Jaa gets the defensive player
- 5:45Speaker 6: of the game and the first thing he does is
- 5:46Speaker 6: mentioned you does that kind of sum up that dB room?
- 5:50Speaker 7: I mean, yeah, and this is just the type of
- 5:52Speaker 7: person that Jada is. He's never really gonna take credit,
- 5:54Speaker 7: but you know he deserved the credit. But you know,
- 5:56Speaker 7: he the type of person that was gonna give everybody
- 5:58Speaker 7: else to credit and not take the credit. So I
- 6:00Speaker 7: just wanted to, you know, give a shot out to
- 6:01Speaker 7: him because he played his hard out and he definitely
- 6:03Speaker 7: deserved that.
- 6:03Speaker 4: MVP Troth tonight. ASU came out really strong. They kept
- 6:08Speaker 4: coming back, growing and growing.
- 6:10Speaker 3: What was that? What was the defense?
- 6:13Speaker 4: What were y'all talking about on the on the sideline
- 6:17Speaker 4: when y'all were going into that, Man?
- 6:19Speaker 3: What was you telling everybody?
- 6:20Speaker 1: Man?
- 6:21Speaker 7: Whatever, whatever it takes, whatever he tells to get this
- 6:23Speaker 7: job done. You don't matter how we do, we're down
- 6:25Speaker 7: or we oh whatever, he tests to finish his game.
- 6:27Speaker 7: So that was just the mentality, man, street fight mentality.
- 6:30Speaker 7: You know, go out there, you know, fight, you fighting
- 6:32Speaker 7: and not stop and not quit and you know you
- 6:34Speaker 7: obviously see the results.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Man.
- 6:35Speaker 7: We just kept going.
- 6:36Speaker 3: That'start. We just believed and kept going.
- 6:38Speaker 6: Andrew, we asked Matt if you saw your pick? He said, yeah,
- 6:40Speaker 6: of course, that was pretty nice. Did you see his
- 6:42Speaker 6: fourth down catch to keep this season alive?
- 6:45Speaker 3: Man?
- 6:45Speaker 7: I seen everything Matt did today. Man, that was that
- 6:47Speaker 7: was really phenomenal. Man. It really he really helped us
- 6:50Speaker 7: obviously win the game. So, you know, shout out to
- 6:52Speaker 7: Matt Man. He was definitely doing this thing today.
- 6:55Speaker 4: As you really great opponent going against Gataboo and levit.
- 6:59Speaker 4: Can we talk about what the defense brought to that
- 7:03Speaker 4: with that matchup.
- 7:03Speaker 7: To the oh, I mean, we knew it was gonna
- 7:06Speaker 7: be a physical game, you know, coming in with Scheduble, Uh,
- 7:10Speaker 7: you know, he's definitely one of the best backs in
- 7:11Speaker 7: the country. Uh you know, you know, I'll give credit
- 7:14Speaker 7: what credit is do and respect respect this due. He's
- 7:16Speaker 7: definitely one of the best guys in the country at
- 7:17Speaker 7: that running back position. But we knew it was gonna
- 7:19Speaker 7: be a physical game. So we just we just went
- 7:22Speaker 7: out there. You know, we just had to match physicality
- 7:24Speaker 7: and we had to be the more physical team to
- 7:26Speaker 7: in order to come out on top of this game,
- 7:28Speaker 7: because they are a pretty good physical team. As far
- 7:30Speaker 7: as the quarterback, he a good quarterback, you know, he
- 7:33Speaker 7: went he was having a lot of success at the
- 7:35Speaker 7: beginning of the game, and you know, meg games. So
- 7:38Speaker 7: we just knew we had to make adjustments, you know,
- 7:39Speaker 7: find ways to cause turnovers or get stopped from third
- 7:42Speaker 7: down and get him off the felt.
- 7:44Speaker 6: Andrew you we talked on Monday, and I said, is
- 7:46Speaker 6: this kind of what you vision when you made the
- 7:48Speaker 6: move back home?
- 7:48Speaker 3: He said, exactly.
- 7:50Speaker 6: I want to be one of the pieces they needed
- 7:52Speaker 6: hard to imagine this one though, to help get Texas
- 7:54Speaker 6: to the final four.
- 7:56Speaker 7: I mean, I've been saying this the whole, the whole. Yeah, man,
- 7:59Speaker 7: this year feel like a movie for me. You know,
- 8:01Speaker 7: ain't the guys in the room and they feel like
- 8:03Speaker 7: this whole thing was scripted for me coming home playing
- 8:06Speaker 7: my basketball, helping the team.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Uh, you know what happened.
- 8:09Speaker 7: Today, just everything and everything in general just feel like
- 8:12Speaker 7: a movie. And I'm just thankful for the opportunities I'm
- 8:14Speaker 7: getting and just thankful overall.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Last quick question, talk about the five one two, all
- 8:19Speaker 4: three of you guys playing at the at the top
- 8:21Speaker 4: two in your thing your fifth interception today talk about.
- 8:25Speaker 7: Me, and you know, it's amazing to have obviously those
- 8:27Speaker 7: two guys alongside, you know, you know, great great competitors,
- 8:30Speaker 7: good players. Uh, you know, guys is gonna make plays.
- 8:33Speaker 7: But you know, it's it's amazing to really see that
- 8:35Speaker 7: because you know, it's these these are two guys with
- 8:37Speaker 7: three three in total. You know that's going out there,
- 8:40Speaker 7: you know, making plays where there's me making them play
- 8:43Speaker 7: the game, tap making play in this game. J ady't
- 8:45Speaker 7: making it play or we are three making plays. So
- 8:46Speaker 7: you know, it's great to see that, and you know,
- 8:48Speaker 7: I'm happy for those guys, and I'm really proud of
- 8:49Speaker 7: those guys.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Andrew, thank you so much for your time, Rest up,
- 8:52Speaker 4: get ready for doubts.
- 8:54Speaker 2: See all in Dallas is saying it felt like a movie.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Everything's been scripted. It's a Texas would not be here
- 9:01Speaker 2: without the play of Andrew mccouba this season. I think
- 9:04Speaker 2: he's walked into the hearts of Texas fans, one of
- 9:06Speaker 2: their favorite players on this defense, plays so hard, deliver
- 9:10Speaker 2: some of the biggest hits we have seen in college football,
- 9:13Speaker 2: and came up with a big interception to clinch the game.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Last postgame interview for you comes from Alfred Collins, a
- 9:19Speaker 2: guy who's been with this program for a couple of
- 9:22Speaker 2: years now, stuck through it has developed into one of
- 9:25Speaker 2: the frontline starters and it has been a big piece of
- 9:27Speaker 2: this defensive line.
- 9:28Speaker 4: We got out for Collins right here. Alfred talk to
- 9:32Speaker 4: us about those overtimes, especially how you guys are able
- 9:37Speaker 4: to continually focus up and make the play when it
- 9:40Speaker 4: was needed.
- 9:41Speaker 8: You know, I feel like, like I always say, it's
- 9:44Speaker 8: our preparation, you know, at the end of the day,
- 9:47Speaker 8: you know, we're gonna have to do what we gotta do,
- 9:49Speaker 8: and you know we have to go to two overtimes,
- 9:50Speaker 8: and you know we came out on top.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Alfred.
- 9:53Speaker 6: You never know how game's gonna go. You guys had
- 9:55Speaker 6: to dig deep because you were out there a lot.
- 9:57Speaker 6: What was that like? And what was that like down
- 9:59Speaker 6: the stretch to just find every ounce of energy you
- 10:02Speaker 6: had left?
- 10:02Speaker 8: Man, you know, I owe it to this organization to
- 10:04Speaker 8: start to the defense as an offense to everybody.
- 10:07Speaker 3: You know, just give it my all, even if even.
- 10:08Speaker 8: If I'm on one leg, you know, I'm gonna give
- 10:10Speaker 8: it my all with that one leg.
- 10:11Speaker 4: So yeah, so the game is coming, you guys go
- 10:15Speaker 4: down and then have to fight back. Was there a
- 10:19Speaker 4: rallying cry? What was going on on those sidelines over there?
- 10:21Speaker 3: Oh?
- 10:22Speaker 8: You know, we just we just we just came together
- 10:24Speaker 8: as a team, as a defense, as an.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Offense, as a defense as offense.
- 10:29Speaker 8: You know, we just regroup. Said like, you know, we
- 10:32Speaker 8: didn't blink. You know what I'm saying. We like, let's
- 10:33Speaker 8: go back out there and do we gotta do.
- 10:35Speaker 6: You know, give me your view of Andrew's pick and
- 10:37Speaker 6: kind of the emotion going through you.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Man, it was I have butterflies.
- 10:41Speaker 8: Man, It's just so happy man, because you know we
- 10:45Speaker 8: don't want to.
- 10:46Speaker 3: I mean, we went to overtime a game like man,
- 10:50Speaker 3: it was just a special money.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Man.
- 10:52Speaker 3: I really don't have words for it. I was just happy.
- 10:54Speaker 3: That says it all, right there. I was just happy.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Definitely says it all.
- 10:58Speaker 4: And now you guys are going up to Dallas kind
- 11:01Speaker 4: of talk us through. I know you're gonna enjoy this
- 11:04Speaker 4: one tonight. But what's that focus?
- 11:07Speaker 8: You know, just getting getting healthy tomorrow, you know what
- 11:09Speaker 8: I'm saying, or hitting the training room everybody, and then
- 11:12Speaker 8: just attacking a game, playing attacking practice, being intentional everything
- 11:16Speaker 8: we do and prepare for whoever we got.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Thinks it's gonna be a tough task against Ohio State.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Caleb Downs one of the best safeties in college football.
- 11:25Speaker 2: They have a fantastic secondary, they have a good front
- 11:27Speaker 2: four that can get pressure on Quinn yours, and they
- 11:30Speaker 2: have probably the most explosive offense in college football. Will
- 11:34Speaker 2: Howard is a capable quarterback, but when you have Travon
- 11:36Speaker 2: Henderson and quinch On Judkins in the backfield, and plus
- 11:39Speaker 2: Jeremiah Smith and Abuco on the outside. It'll be tough
- 11:44Speaker 2: for the Texas defense. They will have their hands full
- 11:47Speaker 2: in this game. And I said it earlier on the show,
- 11:48Speaker 2: said again right now. I don't know if we've seen
- 11:50Speaker 2: a full four quarter game from Texas this year, but
- 11:53Speaker 2: to beat Ohio State, they are going to need a
- 11:56Speaker 2: complete performance from offense, defense, in special teams. I got
- 12:00Speaker 2: a fill in. Winner of this game will win the
- 12:02Speaker 2: national championship. Speaking of other college football payoff games, Notre
- 12:06Speaker 2: Dame a thirteen to three lead at halftime now officially
- 12:11Speaker 2: huge turnover towards the end of the second half or
- 12:13Speaker 2: end of the second quarter from Gunner Stockton, a fumble
- 12:15Speaker 2: recovered by Notre Dame. They would score on the ensuing play.
- 12:18Speaker 2: They go up by ten points and they will take
- 12:21Speaker 2: on Penn State next week. The winner of that game
- 12:25Speaker 2: will take on Penn State, and of course Texas will
- 12:27Speaker 2: take on Ohio State next Friday, six thirty pm. Kickoff
- 12:32Speaker 2: Ohio State in Texas at the Cotton Bowl. Archives will
- 12:35Speaker 2: begin at three thirty until five thirty and then Craig Way,
- 12:39Speaker 2: Will Matthews, Roger Wallace will have the call. The Penn
- 12:43Speaker 2: State versus Notre Dame Georgia winner. That'll be on Thursday
- 12:48Speaker 2: at six thirty pm the Capitol Win Orange Bowl, and
- 12:51Speaker 2: then Texas, Ohio State Friday at six thirty in All
- 12:54Speaker 2: roads lead to Atlanta. January twentieth, we'll be back to
- 12:57Speaker 2: wrap up today's program here on a thirty ten hundred,
- 13:00Speaker 2: the ZEMM
