- 0:00Welcome back to another edition of the Just In Time podcast.
- 0:03I'm your host Justin, and let's get into recap of last night's
- 0:06game. It went really well, but let me
- 0:09start off, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.
- 0:14I didn't think we had it in us to go over there and beat
- 0:16Clemson. Like I did say, I thought we
- 0:18were the more talented team, but talent and coaching always don't
- 0:21correlate. And I still don't think Brian
- 0:24Kelly's our guy. But there was a lot of
- 0:26improvements from last year on both sides of the ball.
- 0:30I think we were more balanced offense last night.
- 0:32The run game, I didn't think we were going to have a run game.
- 0:36I was wrong. Quarterback play was really
- 0:39good. We didn't have forced plays that
- 0:42turned into interceptions or fumbles.
- 0:44We had two fumbles. One of them didn't matter as
- 0:46much because it was a fourth down.
- 0:48We didn't convert anyway. At the end of the first four, we
- 0:51gave them three points. The game should have been 24 to
- 0:537, but we'll get into that later.
- 0:57Defense was a high point. They and what really impressed
- 1:00me about our defense was every time Clemson had the ball and
- 1:05ran the ball or every time Clemson ran the ball, there was
- 1:08always 7, anywhere between four to seven guys making that
- 1:13tackle. They weren't just pushed around,
- 1:15they pushed around Clemson's offensive line.
- 1:18They hurried Klubnick a bunch, got a couple of sacks, made that
- 1:24guy make bad decisions and that's what lost.
- 1:28That's what led to US winning that game.
- 1:29Wednesday when we were talking about the game, we came down to
- 1:33it and we said the game would be won and lost in the trenches.
- 1:36That was correct. Our offensive line was bipolar
- 1:39at times. At times they looked really,
- 1:42really good. At times they look like a high
- 1:44school offensive line. They didn't impress me to the
- 1:48point where I say that still isn't a big concern, But if we
- 1:52get to the point where we can hit our weapons out on the
- 1:55outside and run the ball like we did and keep it balanced, when
- 1:59you run the ball, it open softens up the defense for the
- 2:02pass and when you pass the ball it softens up the defense for
- 2:05the run. They don't know what you're
- 2:06going for. I still think play calling was a
- 2:10bit atrocious towards the end of the game, especially in the
- 2:15middle of the game. They play a clip of Brian Kelly
- 2:17slamming his first down on the desk from last year, saying that
- 2:21you have to be able to put the game away.
- 2:23And I still think they left room for Clemson to come back
- 2:26through. And you know, they gave Clemson
- 2:31too much time. I think they gave him too much
- 2:32of room to make this game a game where they would come back in,
- 2:38possibly win the game or tie the game and take it to OT.
- 2:42We need to work on that. When you can put a team away,
- 2:44put a team away. Don't worry about eating off the
- 2:46clock. Deliver the knockout punch.
- 2:49But you know, let's go into some stats here.
- 2:53This is what was the rushing in passing leaders for both teams
- 2:58and us was obviously the passing.
- 3:01He was 28 for 38, 230 yards and a touchdown.
- 3:06Cadenwood had 17 touches. He got 74 yards and a touchdown.
- 3:10We had two turnovers, palm of possession, 37 minutes and 6
- 3:15seconds. We had 6 penalties for 45 yards.
- 3:18Some of those were SEC officiate being terrible.
- 3:22Let's see, we had those two turnovers.
- 3:26Klovnik was 19 for 38230 yards with an interception.
- 3:31That's what OK after that, this game should have been 24 to 10
- 3:36or 27 to 10. You take away that fumble at the
- 3:40in the first half where Clemson got that field goal, it should
- 3:45have been 27 to 24 to 7. We gave them those three points,
- 3:51but Randall for them was their Russian leader.
- 3:54He had five touches, 16 yards and a touchdown.
- 3:58They had 260 yards total, one turnover.
- 4:01They possessed the ball for 22546 penalties for 57 yards.
- 4:06Here's the rest of our breakdown for passing.
- 4:10Xavion Thomas completed a 16 yard pass.
- 4:13You know Nuts actually had two touchdown passes because the SEC
- 4:16officiating was horrible. I don't know how you call that
- 4:20part every other game. Every other time a touchdown was
- 4:24scored on the ground in that game, that ball came loose.
- 4:29I know it's a little different since it was a pass, but he took
- 4:32four steps, 2 inbounds, made it through, knock down the pylon
- 4:38and made it through the end zone, got pushed to the ground
- 4:41and the ball came out. Anywhere else, that's a complete
- 4:43pass in that. Seven points of LSU officiating
- 4:47was terrible. Then later on after that, Davos
- 4:50Sweeney, who's a little bit of a whiny little bitch, was
- 4:55complaining that they missed 2 calls when his DB had the jersey
- 5:02out like this for 10 yards and got called for pass
- 5:06interference. That moved LSU up and gave him a
- 5:08first down. Told him man he missed 2
- 5:12penalties. And that's after earlier this
- 5:14week he tried and he successfully got one of our
- 5:17players suspended for and a half and he tried to go after another
- 5:21one because he didn't think that his team was good enough to do
- 5:24that. He's a whiner.
- 5:25That little I know they do it. Every game that walked down the
- 5:31hill was stupid. In my opinion.
- 5:33It was stupid. I didn't like it.
- 5:35I'm not a fan of it. If the game was supposed to
- 5:37start at 6:30, got pushed back to seven because they had to do
- 5:41that, I didn't like it. Not a fan.
- 5:43Barry and Brown made an amazing one handed grab for that
- 5:47unofficial official touchdown that I just got finished talking
- 5:49about. You know, then like I said, they
- 5:53called that back. I don't know what the problem
- 5:55was, ESP NS announces and two of them that aren't very high on
- 6:00LSU to begin with even said that that was a touchdown and they
- 6:03don't know what happened. But let's just get into this
- 6:05rushing game because we had 100 and let's see, go to the box
- 6:10score. We had 110 yards on the ground.
- 6:14We had 123-4566 guys touch the ball, get carries for 29
- 6:20carries, you know, and we got 110 yards nuts.
- 6:24Went for, had a 10 yard run. That's something we complained
- 6:27about. He didn't use his legs.
- 6:29He tried to force plays. He grew up.
- 6:31He grew up in his showed. Did he have a spectacular game?
- 6:34No. But he got cheap shotted at the
- 6:38end of the third quarter before the fourth quarter and he got up
- 6:41and still LED us to it. The game went in touchdown
- 6:44drive. Here we go.
- 6:45Let's get into this, OK, The defense, that's what 1 is this
- 6:50game. The defense came up 1 is this
- 6:53game. They were stout.
- 6:57They didn't bend OR break. At one point they bent a little
- 7:00bit because they were on the field.
- 7:01And then we run one play and they Clemson gets the ball back
- 7:08off of a fumble. But our defense was really,
- 7:11really good last night. We make it to the playoffs.
- 7:14We make a strong run in the playoffs.
- 7:16This is why we had 12333 players in Woodland and Weeks and
- 7:24Perkins with five tackles. Woodland had five solo tackles,
- 7:30one sack and a tackle for a loss.
- 7:33He said 5 tackle total tackles, four were solos.
- 7:36Perkins had five with three solo tackles.
- 7:40The team got 41 tackles in 31 of the 41 with solo.
- 7:46We had special teams. Was great.
- 7:49I don't know what happened on that second field goal Ramos
- 7:52had, but he'd look like he came up limping.
- 7:54Punt returning was good. Chadwick.
- 7:56I mean, not punt returning. Chadwick's up on a Punt returns
- 8:00were good. We had one return for 18 yards.
- 8:02They got called back on ABS penalty.
- 8:04You know, a punter. Chadwick average 42 touchbacks
- 8:10as long as was 52 yards and he had 167 total yards.
- 8:15Ponting had one interception that we don't really talk about
- 8:19those because we don't really do that.
- 8:21We had one interception, you know, we had two fumbles, but we
- 8:24don't we're not going to talk about those.
- 8:27Going on to the Clemson side. Clemson, they said, was going to
- 8:30be just like a drum. Kay Kublick was going to do all
- 8:33these amazing things. He was 19 for 38.
- 8:37Same yardage Nussmeyer had at 2:30.
- 8:40He averaged 6.1. He had one terrible
- 8:44interception. They only had 32 yards of
- 8:47rushing. The receiving had 230 yards
- 8:51through the air. Had three guys get 4 touches.
- 8:55Their defense was not what they thought it was going to be.
- 9:00They had 72 total tackles, 38 with solo.
- 9:05They only had one sack to so much for our offensive line not
- 9:09being able to hold up against this amazing cleansing D line.
- 9:13Punt returns they had one for 16 yards.
- 9:16Kicking was good. They were one for two with field
- 9:20goals along with 42 and they had two punters point.
- 9:25Well, one's their field goal kicker.
- 9:26They lined up for a field goal and did a little shot to eat up
- 9:29some time, but that was good. It was a good overall win for
- 9:32LSU. They went and they proved that
- 9:34the real Death Valley is in Baton Rouge got over a much
- 9:38needed hump of winning the season opener after five years.
- 9:43Yeah, they five years hadn't won a season opener since 20/19 with
- 9:47Joe Burrow. One of the part of those reasons
- 9:49were coaching. A lot of those reasons for coach
- 9:51we're coaching. Some of those were different
- 9:54reasons, but main point is we got over the hump, we beat a
- 9:58really good Clemson team and it's time to move on and look at
- 10:01the next week. Which oddly enough, two of our
- 10:06next three opponents played each other last night.
- 10:09So let's go and talk about that a little bit.
- 10:13I can find what I'm looking for. Let's see which had.
- 10:16So two of our next three opponents played each other last
- 10:19night. I'll talk about both.
- 10:21We play. We've got LA Tech at home next
- 10:24week. Louisiana Tech.
- 10:26Let's see. Yeah, that's what I want.
- 10:28Louisiana Tech ended up beating Southeastern 24 to nothing.
- 10:31Let's talk about Tech first. So their quarterback went 14 for
- 10:3619 with 130 yards, one touchdown.
- 10:42They had 133 yards on the ground, nothing too special, 33
- 10:47yard runs. They had 100 and 30 through the
- 10:50air. 1 touchdown, 1 touchdown. Their defense had 83 total
- 10:55tackles, solo tackles with 33. They had 11 tackles for loss. 4
- 11:03sacks, 1 touchdown. They had two interceptions.
- 11:07One was returned for 25 yards. Kicked 1 field goal for 41
- 11:11yards. That's decent.
- 11:12Had three returns, one for 25 yards or two for 25 yards.
- 11:17An average of 12.5. There were one for one with
- 11:20field goals. That punter was good. 336 yards
- 11:24of, you know, 59 long. What all boils down to is LSU
- 11:31should win that game pretty easily.
- 11:32I mean, nobody expects that to be a good game.
- 11:34Then after we have Florida, who is going to be the best game
- 11:38probably in September for us, our hardest fought game at home
- 11:42be the best home game for sure. They looked really good
- 11:45yesterday. Didn't play nobody.
- 11:46That's why I'm not talking about them because usually we just
- 11:50don't know enough. Southeastern, however, didn't
- 11:52look good at all. They didn't score at all.
- 11:54They had two interceptions from two different quarterbacks, only
- 11:58128 yards on the ground, you know, 145 yards combined between
- 12:04the two quarterbacks and receiving.
- 12:06They had multiple guys with multiple touches.
- 12:09They fumble twice. Their defense doesn't look too
- 12:12good on paper. They didn't have any
- 12:14interceptions or kick returns, punt returns.
- 12:16They got solid punt returns, 17 yards.
- 12:19They didn't kick and they're pawning.
- 12:22The special teams were decent from what they did, but you
- 12:27know, these two games weren't anything special.
- 12:30We'll talk. We can talk about Florida just
- 12:32because they played yesterday too, not just because they
- 12:35didn't play anybody. We'll talk about them or let's
- 12:37see who they play next week and then we'll talk.
- 12:39We maybe can talk next week. Yeah, Florida doesn't play
- 12:42anybody next week either. So let's just go ahead and knock
- 12:46Florida out the way now. I know, OK.
- 12:50Or we can just get Florida and talk about Florida State
- 12:53whooping Alabama. But I don't want to do that.
- 12:56So let's go talk about Florida against Long Island.
- 12:58Florida win that game 55 to nothing as expected.
- 13:02I mean, nobody expected Florida to go into that game and lose.
- 13:06OK, here we go. Won't even talk about we're not
- 13:10going to talk about their defense.
- 13:11We'll talk about DJ Lagway, 15 for 18 had 120 yards do 1 total
- 13:20because they play Jones. He did went 12 for 18 with two
- 13:25touchdowns. Lagway had three touchdowns, no
- 13:27interceptions. 120 yards for Lagway, 131 yards for Jones.
- 13:33Here's what is going to be a true test for LS U's defense.
- 13:37Florida had, and I know this is Long Island's defense, Florida
- 13:40had 200 yards rushing on 9 attempts.
- 13:43Jaden Baugh had 9 carries. I'm sorry if I butchered that
- 13:48name. I don't really know.
- 13:49Florida football had 9 carries, was 104, had 104 yards and one
- 13:54touchdown. As long as run was 26 yards,
- 13:57that's going to be LS. Us biggest test is Florida a run
- 14:02they're rushing. You know, Florida did have two
- 14:06fumbles, same as us. Florida's defense looked good.
- 14:10Again, this is all against Rhode Island, Long Island, so I don't
- 14:14know how good Florida actually is.
- 14:17They're not one of those teams that went out and said, hey, let
- 14:19me play a top 10 opponent or on the road or like LSU, Texas are
- 14:27not one of them. Speaking of which, I'm not
- 14:29surprised. I think Arch Manning is going to
- 14:31be good down the stretch for Texas.
- 14:34I think his experience as he gains more experience as a
- 14:37starter in this conference, he'll be better.
- 14:39And next year is when he'll light it up.
- 14:43But back to Florida, you know, I can go over Florida and all of
- 14:47this. They didn't really play anybody
- 14:49for me to tell you what was good and what was bad.
- 14:52They won 55 and nothing. And that was relatively easy for
- 14:55them. You know, I think if LSU comes
- 14:59out and plays like they played last night, when they go to Ole
- 15:04Miss in a few weeks, LSU will be undefeated.
- 15:08You know, if we play like we, if we play like we're capable of
- 15:12and the offense starts picking up more of the passing game, you
- 15:18know, they fire on all cylinders.
- 15:20That was a huge win last night for confidence level.
- 15:25Confidence level that gives you a huge win.
- 15:27You get the first win off your back.
- 15:29It's a good team. You can take the next the next
- 15:33week, make the few adjustments in game adjustments and
- 15:36adjustments against Louisiana Tech.
- 15:38Then have your first real SEC test in Florida.
- 15:42Hopefully come away with AW there, tune up a little bit
- 15:47against Southeastern again, hopefully this is all hopefully
- 15:50and then go into Oxford and beat Ole Miss.
- 15:53I think we'll be good. Think we'll be good.
- 15:55I think we might after last seen what they did last night.
- 15:59Is there's a chance they still lose 2 games?
- 16:02Yes. Is there a chance they go
- 16:03undefeated? Yes.
- 16:06Winning that first game just gives confidence, and confidence
- 16:09is a huge part. Will we be able to get where we
- 16:13need to be? I think so.
- 16:16I think Ellis will be a great team this year.
- 16:20I think we'll be a playoff team this year.
- 16:22I think we have a few huge steps and we still have some a few
- 16:26question marks that we need to answer.
- 16:29Once we do that, everything else will fall into place.
- 16:32You know, that was a good win for Nussen.
- 16:34The boys, they can come back to the Rio Death Valley.
- 16:37I don't know where they played at last night that wasn't Death
- 16:41Valley. I think it was Memorial Stadium.
- 16:42But the Clemson's got to come to the Rio Death Valley next year.
- 16:45We'll show them how it will when they come down here.
- 16:47We'll show them with the valleys.
- 16:48We'll just have to show them. But you know, as always, have a
- 16:54good day, a good night or whatever you have.
- 16:56Just make it a good one. And please like and subscribe if
- 16:59you haven't already. It would mean a lot to me.
- 17:02I'd like I enjoy putting out these.
- 17:05It's fun for me. Yeah, just like and subscribe.
- 17:07Have a wonderful day. Thank you and go Tigers.
