- 0:01Do you actually have to be on cocaine to be on this park
- 0:03there? It's.
- 0:20A great day. Well, hello everybody.
- 0:34It's another great episode of Cocaine Willy coming, coming,
- 0:37coming live here from Dallas, TX.
- 0:41Got Fireball mat here. We got Chef, we got no Bob
- 0:45today. So it is absolutely going to be
- 0:48on Hinge today. Let me tell you, we have no
- 0:50structure. We have nothing.
- 0:52We miss Bob though, but we thank everybody for giving us the
- 0:55listen today to Cocaine Willie, who is the official K State
- 0:59podcast on the College Huddle. Today we're going to talk about
- 1:04Oklahoma State. We got a big game coming up on
- 1:06Saturday against the Cowboys in Stillwater, a place we have not
- 1:10won since 1999. Are we going to break that
- 1:13streak on Saturday? Who knows, Who knows?
- 1:17And we have a great guest CGA tour and Cal, who is going to be
- 1:21here to talk about the Pokes. First though, I do want to give
- 1:25a shout out to our sponsor, Annie Maze Parlor.
- 1:28My favorite place to go in Manhattan, KS this week at Annie
- 1:33Maze. I'm sure there's a lot of great
- 1:35stuff going on, but Annie Maze, as you can see that chef is is
- 1:40pointing over here, has been an absolute great, great sponsor
- 1:44for us. I'm located at 616 N 12th St. in
- 1:48the heart of Aggieville. It is always a must destination
- 1:52when I come into town, when you all should be coming into town
- 1:55and Manhattan especially for our home football games.
- 1:58Jeff's been great with us. We love having him.
- 2:02And you know, just make sure to go shout out I don't have a
- 2:05koozie with me today. But yeah, come on chef, you got
- 2:09to have the koozie. No, no koozie.
- 2:12It's somewhere. But anime's is selling our walk
- 2:15at Country. Let's ride koozies at their
- 2:18location. So please give a shout out to
- 2:21Annie Mae's visit Manhattan, 616 N 12th St. in the heart of
- 2:25Aggieville. All right, let's go ahead and
- 2:29talk Oklahoma State. And again, we have Cal from the
- 2:33CGA tour with us today. Thank you for joining.
- 2:37Number one, talk to us. I mean, come on.
- 2:41This has been an interesting season of a lot of highs and a
- 2:45lot of lows being nice, maybe some more lows and highs, but
- 2:49welcome back. It's great to have you here on
- 2:51the show today. Thanks, chef and fireball.
- 2:54I I like your guys's names. You know, you're not going
- 2:56straight up. You know, you got Bob Trollsby
- 2:58as a third like you know, I I need to do something.
- 3:01I need to do something with mine.
- 3:02I'm missing out all of us here at the college.
- 3:04I don't need to do something like that.
- 3:06That's that's terrific. But this Saturday we are
- 3:10honoring maybe the best wide receiver in comfortable history,
- 3:14Dustin Blackman. And that is the highlight of the
- 3:16game because to put it bluntly, we are 20 1/2 point or 19 1/2
- 3:22points or maybe 19 if you're really looking at those, those
- 3:26those books out in Vegas, underdogs at home against K
- 3:30State, who I believe here, if I'm right in saying is out of
- 3:34contention to be in the big championship game.
- 3:36So. We are, yes.
- 3:38So it's not no offense, you guys are not world beaters and we're
- 3:41still projected to lose by 19 to 21 somewhere in there.
- 3:45So it's just not overall like the most optimistic I've been
- 3:49about a cowboy game heading into it.
- 3:51I don't know why I would have a ton of optimism at the best
- 3:54couple and the the the possibility of having, you know,
- 3:58some some hope was Hoss Haney or starting quarterback who was
- 4:03supposedly looking at this game to come back for me and a bye
- 4:05week last week, etcetera. And he got injured literally the
- 4:09first quarter of the first game of the season back in August.
- 4:12And has he fractured his foot? It's no small injury healing
- 4:16from a Jones fracture, which keeps NBA players out for a
- 4:19whole season. So I don't blame the guy for not
- 4:22coming back at all. But this was kind of the game
- 4:24where maybe he'll come back and it's he's not on the depth
- 4:26chart. So there's no way it's
- 4:28day-to-day if I'm a host, Haney, I don't know why I would come
- 4:33back either. So I don't have a ton of hope,
- 4:35but that was kind of the the the hope, hope that it's just going
- 4:38to not happen. So I'm I'm excited to see
- 4:42Oklahoma State football. Like it's always a fun time.
- 4:45We're making stadium tailgating, hanging out with family and
- 4:47friends, all type of stuff. But man, this is not the most
- 4:52optimistic view I've ever had going into a game.
- 4:54I think the last ones we've done before I I've been like, well,
- 4:57you know what, maybe we can do this or oh, you know, like even
- 5:00last year we won three games heading into the, you know, and
- 5:03into this game. And one was against Arkansas.
- 5:06And you know, another one was Tulsa by it was 45 to 10 and we
- 5:09had Ollie Gordon second this team.
- 5:12We we've got a guy who was playing quarterback one point to
- 5:16then now is playing wide receiver, who now is back to
- 5:18playing quarterback out of necessity, possibly starting at
- 5:22quarterback, but definitely going to be playing some snaps.
- 5:25And that's just kind of the state of where we're at.
- 5:27Fire to head coach three games in the season.
- 5:30As everyone knows, Gundy's gone. Gundy has not publicly said
- 5:33anything about being gone either.
- 5:35Every other coach has commented said, you know, everyone.
- 5:39But anyways, I I digress. It's not the most hopeful look
- 5:42into into a game I've ever had, that's for sure.
- 5:44No, that's completely fair. And and you covered some of the
- 5:47points of of kind of the big picture of what 2025 is.
- 5:50Look, looked at, you know, one in eight record.
- 5:52You mentioned House Haney, who is ATCU transfer.
- 5:56And admittingly, in that first quarter, you know, I, I remember
- 5:59that game kind of looked, looked the part of a guy that that, you
- 6:03know, coming in to, to really kind of be the starter and, and
- 6:07showed some flashes in that game.
- 6:10You know, thinking about the the Gundy firing after the Tulsa
- 6:15game and, you know, this impending coaching change that
- 6:19you know, it's going to be coming, You know, at the end of
- 6:21this season, You know, thinking about the the overall vibe of
- 6:25the program maybe isn't necessarily looking at the past
- 6:28nine games, but it's looking at OK, here's the next three games,
- 6:32the last three games of the season.
- 6:33And then, you know, the potential of somebody coming in
- 6:36and kind of revamping this program.
- 6:38So, you know, what is the the overall kind of vibe right now
- 6:42as an Oklahoma State supporter and fan about the football
- 6:46program of where they are at right now?
- 6:49There's there's a lot of hope and optimism for next year and
- 6:52what a new head coach could bring.
- 6:53Oklahoma State historically has paid Big 12 coaching and you
- 6:57know when it comes to Big 12 coaching, top 3IN Big 12
- 7:00coaching revenue year over year. With Gundy, that was always
- 7:02true. Now Gundy was always trying to
- 7:05keep that bar going up. You know, he was not complacent
- 7:08with being paid whatever he was being paid.
- 7:10He was always gonna and advantageous to him.
- 7:12Props to him. I mean, know your value and know
- 7:14your worth, but I think a lot of fans, including myself, are
- 7:17optimistic of what the next era could look like.
- 7:20Will it be a possible former Oklahoma State quarterback,
- 7:23offensive coordinator for the Falcons coming Stillwater?
- 7:27Or will it be a possible other kind of group of Five currently
- 7:29head coach either at North Texas or Texas State or Memphis?
- 7:35You know, I mean, just kind of wherever, USF University, South
- 7:38Florida. So there's a lot of optimism in,
- 7:41hey, who could be the next coach?
- 7:42And while we're still able to be incredibly optimistic, right,
- 7:45like this is kind of the honeymoon optimism phase.
- 7:49It's nice, but it's also just so bizarre.
- 7:51I mean, I Gundy's been the head coach.
- 7:53I'm I'm now 32. Gundy's been the head coach
- 7:56since I was in 4th grade. So like, it's, it's a long time
- 8:00and he did one hell of a job for so long.
- 8:03He was named big 12th coach of the year in 2021 and 2023 as
- 8:08well as I think 2011. So he was named it more in this
- 8:12decade than he was the last decade.
- 8:14It just it's all so bizarre. The season went like this and it
- 8:16went so downhill so quick. But there's a lot of optimism in
- 8:19the fan base and there's a lot of who's going to be the next
- 8:22head coach and hey, see the basketball team play, which it's
- 8:25November. We're talking about basketball
- 8:27and next head coaches. You know that it's kind of where
- 8:30we're at. You know, I mean, one, one win
- 8:32against UT Martin, which if you guys know where that UT stands
- 8:37for, it's University of Tennessee at Martin, which was
- 8:39not the first one I thought of. So, you know, there's just kind
- 8:42of because we're, you know, we're used to like the UTSA,
- 8:44right? University of Texas, you know,
- 8:46so University of Texas Martin, not too odd of the blue, but of
- 8:49course, they're University of Tennessee.
- 8:50So anyways, yeah, it's it's an optimistic, hopeful kind of
- 8:54vibes. We're having a lot of fun.
- 8:56We've got several 100 students taking their shirts off, waving
- 9:01them around. We'll see if it'll happen this
- 9:02weekend. Although it is supposed to be
- 9:03kind of nice. So probably.
- 9:06And we've got a lot of guys dressing up in banana suits, a
- 9:08lot of guys and gals for that matter.
- 9:10So we're having fun with the season.
- 9:11Like a lot of fans are just excited for what's next.
- 9:14Are they going to raise ticket prices again after this year?
- 9:17I hope not. Like a lot of that stuff going
- 9:20on, Who's going to be the guy to come in?
- 9:23And and then we'll see where we're at.
- 9:25Yeah, well, well, specifically on on the offensive side of the
- 9:28ball that I mean, we're going to break this team down and, you
- 9:32know, looking forward into the future, the depth of this team
- 9:37on offense throughout positions. I mean, it's going to be, you
- 9:41know, looked at with the new head coach.
- 9:44But this season it's it's been a struggle.
- 9:48It's been a struggle on offense. I think that's really been the
- 9:50main point of it all. I think once a head coach goes,
- 9:54the defense kind of goes with that.
- 9:56I mean, it's a lot of structure that needs to go with defense.
- 9:58But offensively, who is the main guy that's going to lead this
- 10:02team? If if you want to have success
- 10:04and show progress in those last three games for the next future
- 10:08head coach, who's The Who are the people that are going to do
- 10:11it? And what have they been doing
- 10:14that you might see different going out of a bye week with an,
- 10:18you know, an interim head coach? Yeah, so.
- 10:24We're on like our third quarterback.
- 10:25I mean, it's a tough place to be, but we're either on our
- 10:28second or third quarterback. There was a ton of hype for a
- 10:31guy named Zane Flores, who I thought his name, it's spelled
- 10:34Flores and I thought that's the pronunciation for a while.
- 10:36But he's been on the roster for this is his third year with
- 10:39Oklahoma State. He's got a red shirt and a
- 10:42medical red shirt, so both and this is his third year.
- 10:44So this is really like his first year and.
- 10:47Things should be familiar with him.
- 10:48I mean, he is. He was recruited heavily by K
- 10:52State at the time. And he was like going to be the
- 10:54guy. I mean, we this whole, it was
- 10:56like the Zane train. Zane's got zip.
- 10:58Like we had the whole like, we're really into alliteration
- 11:02and Stillwater. But we had the whole thing
- 11:03going. We were really excited about it.
- 11:06And I love it. Like I, I love when we get
- 11:08behind a guy and it's optimistic and it's no longer, hey, it's
- 11:11Alan Bowman and kind of the dreaded stretch.
- 11:14But Haas Haning gets injured so early in that first game and we
- 11:17were up to be honest, in the first game, I thought we're just
- 11:20going to sit in Haas. We're just trying to get both
- 11:22guys playing time off started. We're trying to get Zane playing
- 11:25time. And then when Haas didn't go
- 11:26back in for like the third quarter, but he only played the
- 11:28first, like, OK, maybe they're being safe and you know,
- 11:32whatever might be with him because it was a everything I
- 11:34can tell is a non contact injury and that stuff happens like
- 11:38period. But we're on Zayn Florsch, who
- 11:42is also heavily recruited by Nebraska and that rule, you
- 11:45know, close to when Dylan Riola would have been starting, of
- 11:47course. So he's up there in that kind of
- 11:49high regard. He just does not panned out to
- 11:53be the guy. And it's either that he does not
- 11:57have any protection. I mean, it seems like every play
- 12:00he's just shell shocked. He's possibly gotten like the
- 12:04Mitch Trubisky, Daniel Jones treatment of quarterbacks where
- 12:08like he's just thrown in there and he's got the worst opponents
- 12:12to play against. I mean, his first opponent
- 12:14starting against is Oregon. He threw two pick sixes.
- 12:19I believe we lost the game 69 to 5069 to 3.
- 12:23And really we only gave up 55 points on defense.
- 12:26Like he's just had the he's either had the toughest luck and
- 12:31the worst experience or just overall he's just not as good as
- 12:35we thought he'd be. And that's also quite possible.
- 12:37Like if you're telling me, hey, his offensive line doesn't
- 12:40blocks for a while, he's got no time to think, I'd understand.
- 12:43I just hope that that Kansas game two weeks ago where he came
- 12:46back from injury, played in it, we put up 20 plus points.
- 12:49It's something we can build on coming forward like that.
- 12:52All that lead up about Zayn to say is like this guy has what
- 12:55you would think of having the talent.
- 12:57Just can we either get him a little bit more time or can a
- 13:00little couple more things break our way?
- 13:02I'm not saying we're we're going to beat K State, don't get me
- 13:05wrong, But like we could make it a game for a while.
- 13:08We made it against Kansas a game for a while.
- 13:10I know you guys beat Kansas, by the way, but like we went to KU
- 13:14at KU and for the first time in some weeks, we made it look like
- 13:18a game. I mean, we're talking about a
- 13:20team that lost 42 to 0 against Texas Tech and Texas Tech was up
- 13:24like 14 points within one play from scrimmage because they ran
- 13:28back to kick and then we fumble it or had a some type of muff
- 13:32punt and then we gave the ball back to another 20 and they
- 13:34scored again. Same dude, by the way, scored
- 13:36back-to-back possessions, wide receiver and pick six and the
- 13:39kick return, excuse me, but they're just some like weird,
- 13:43weird stuff has happened. We have some pee wee type of
- 13:47football plays where like a running backs, like trying to
- 13:49like run into the line of scrimmage and he turns to turn
- 13:51his body so we can go backwards kind of over the line.
- 13:54And then he's got the ball too loose.
- 13:56So then the Texas Tech guy comes in and grabs it while he's still
- 13:58going backwards and takes it to the house.
- 14:01Like we've got some just really, really bizarre situations that
- 14:04have happened this year. But the main thing is like we're
- 14:07just, we're not as good as we thought we'd be at all.
- 14:10And I don't think we have any motivation and we get down big
- 14:14pretty quickly in games. That's what's been tough.
- 14:17We not only let the other team score and don't stop them, we
- 14:20also don't can't do much to stick with it.
- 14:23But the KU game was kind of something where we were leading
- 14:25a couple times here and there. We could have gone into half
- 14:28time I think tied or winning, I forget exactly, you know, on the
- 14:33field goal. So there there's some help,
- 14:36there's some promise and something to look forward to an
- 14:37offense, and that's where Our Calling card is.
- 14:39And we've also got a guy who's in freshman year, freshman, Big
- 14:4312, freshman player of the year contention in our defensive
- 14:46line. But you guys are going to double
- 14:48team them just like every other team we've played hat so far.
- 14:51So I don't think Wendell Gregory's going to just really
- 14:53take you by storm and and I'm excited about seeing Zayn forge
- 14:59back out there again. We've got a ton of wide
- 15:01receivers that are all transfers in that's supposed to that look
- 15:04really good when they get the ball in their hands for sure.
- 15:06And we have a converted wide receiver quarterback who can do
- 15:12some have some really fun plays back there behind Center for
- 15:15sure. He's just he's 5 foot 11 and he
- 15:17was going to be a wide receiver all the way up until Zayn got
- 15:20injured. So it's just it's just tough.
- 15:21We're we're in a really, we're not the UCLA who's got Niko
- 15:25Ayemayava and starting at quarterback and then they fire
- 15:29their head coach because they lose so badly and then they
- 15:31still have that quarterback we like.
- 15:33We not only have the fired head coach, we also have the
- 15:35injuries. So this is a tough spot to be.
- 15:38We've got the guy transferring now.
- 15:39I mean, it's it's not a great season when we're going to look
- 15:43back on it. It's going to be this is the
- 15:45year of Hosseini and Gundy got fired and maybe, hey, all right,
- 15:50Wendell Gregory made some noise defensively.
- 15:52Cool. Hopefully we keep him this
- 15:53offseason. All right, well, you know, I you
- 15:59made some really interesting points and and stuff.
- 16:03As you know, all of us, we watch a lot of Big 12 football and you
- 16:06know, you see basically all 15 teams.
- 16:09You know, we try and pay attention to at least I do, you
- 16:13know, Chef has, you know, probably 4 that he really pays
- 16:17attention, you know, to. But I, I look at the Oklahoma
- 16:20State offense and I think about offense in general.
- 16:22You always think of the skilled players, the quarterbacks,
- 16:24etcetera. But in many ways, a really good
- 16:27offense is led by the offensive line and what they can do.
- 16:32And this is an offensive line at Oklahoma State that has had some
- 16:36struggles at least with pass protection and keeping the
- 16:39quarterback upright. They've given up 16 sacks
- 16:41through 9 games. But I think one of the key
- 16:44things, and we're seeing this on the key state side as well, is
- 16:47run blocking. And Oklahoma State is last in
- 16:50the big 12126 yards per game on the ground.
- 16:54So about 1100, you know, into this season.
- 16:58So talk to us a little bit a bit about the offensive line.
- 17:01Has it been a unit that maybe it's been cohesive, but maybe
- 17:04doesn't have the talent or is there, you know, anything
- 17:08glaring that you, you know, you see when you when you watch the
- 17:11offense of, you know, not being able to get the running back
- 17:14anything and, and, you know, not being able to get the
- 17:16quarterback anytime? I mean, I mean, at the end of
- 17:19the day, it comes, I think it comes down mostly to the line
- 17:22play. Like there's some bad
- 17:24quarterback play, there's some bad running back play, but most
- 17:27plays seem to be bad offensive line play, run blocking and pass
- 17:31blocking. Really like pass our pass pro
- 17:33setup is it? It's not it's not great at all.
- 17:37It's not good and it really needs to be great for for a
- 17:42retrofreshing quarterback coming off of an injury by the way, to
- 17:45to play well, I mean it really, he needed so much help and we
- 17:49don't hoss Haney. Why I was so hopeful to have him
- 17:52is because he was a very mobile quarterback.
- 17:54We've got Zane who's much more of a pocket passer, not a real
- 17:57mobile guy. And it just really sucks when
- 18:00our our line just doesn't block well kind of all around.
- 18:03And we've also got lineman transferring out like during the
- 18:06season. So there's not a lot of
- 18:07continuity either. I understand all of it why
- 18:10they're doing, why the guys transferring, what's going on,
- 18:13guys are having injuries, etcetera.
- 18:15But it's just a tough spot to be in because I don't, we don't
- 18:19have a mobile quarterback who and we don't have a quick
- 18:22quarterback, even quick passing. So like all of it just is slower
- 18:26because the guy you really want back there under center and
- 18:30who's been trained to be quarterback his entire life,
- 18:33it's just a little bit slower, especially for this line.
- 18:36And the other guy back there is converted wide receiver playing
- 18:38quarterbacks who was a quarterback.
- 18:40Weirdly enough. It's a whole weird deal.
- 18:42But look up Sam Jackson, the 5th.
- 18:45I mean, like whole weird story he's played at this is his
- 18:48fourth school. So like this is the transport
- 18:51portal era we're in with him. But it's fun, you know, I'm glad
- 18:54we have him. We ordered a lot of trick plays
- 18:55with him too, which is fun. I love a good gadget wide
- 18:59receiver slash quarterback. I mean those, I mean, it's a
- 19:01diverse setting that you could get with this guy out on the
- 19:04field. But you touched on quarterback
- 19:07and I think you've touched on every quarterback on the roster
- 19:09and they deserve their flowers and they deserve their time to
- 19:13shine. But this season hasn't been it.
- 19:15But I kind of want to talk divert a little bit from the
- 19:18outline and talk a little bit about the future, especially of
- 19:21what you want. We'll get back to the position
- 19:25groups here in a second, but I kind of want to get to that
- 19:27future aspect of it. You mentioned the name and
- 19:30potential names of who you want to head coach.
- 19:33Is there a change to this offense and specifically the
- 19:36quarterback position that you would want to see?
- 19:39Like because Oklahoma State, when I when I think of Oklahoma
- 19:43State, I've always thought of like innovative offenses, very
- 19:46spread out, get things done, power run.
- 19:49Chuba Hubbard was, I mean, he gave me nightmares when when I
- 19:54had to when we had to face them in what was that, 2122 or
- 19:57something like that. He was, he was everything.
- 20:00But do you want to, what do you want to see this program and
- 20:03this offense and specifically the quarterback position?
- 20:06What do you want to see with this new era of Oklahoma State
- 20:10football? A lot more just motion, a lot
- 20:16more pre stab motion, a lot more diverting.
- 20:20Exactly like trying to just do in more schemes.
- 20:23It seems like our offense is very bland and vanilla, which I
- 20:27understand, like our offense coordinators now our head coach,
- 20:30I mean, it's it's not, it's not too crazy for me to believe like
- 20:34our defensive coordinator got fired this season as well one
- 20:37weekend after our head coach got fired because it was so bad.
- 20:41And I understand all of it, like why these changes were made.
- 20:46Just that doesn't mean that the rest of the season's going to go
- 20:50any. I'm not going to be able to take
- 20:51away anything, is my point. Like I I would really hope that
- 20:54we could have a really good passing attack again.
- 20:57That's my favorite area of Oakland State football is having
- 21:00Justin Blackman running the, you know, running the basically the
- 21:02fade route down the sideline, having, you know, Rudolph to
- 21:06Washington. I mean, you talk about a
- 21:08Blitnikoff winner. I mean, James Washington, I
- 21:10think it's the most recent one for Oakland State and it's
- 21:13almost like he won back-to-back, you know, when it was really
- 21:15Justin Blackman. So there are so many things I
- 21:18remember about like that opened up the run game.
- 21:20That's when we had Justice Hill and, you know, when we had
- 21:22Thailand Wallace, we had Jim Hubbard and, you know, we had,
- 21:25you know, all these guys. So I'm really hopeful that like
- 21:29we can get back to that kind of offensive production again.
- 21:31I don't know if I can take anything away from this season
- 21:33and how it's gone that would lead me to go, OK, I want, I
- 21:37want, I want Zayn back for sure. Or I want Haas back because
- 21:41we've seen him play like 3 Series.
- 21:42I mean, it's just, it's a great question.
- 21:44It's just really tough because I, I would, hey, if we get Eric
- 21:48Morris from North Texas, bring up everyone, man.
- 21:51Like if, if you think your guys are going to be guys you want to
- 21:55bring with you, like I, I want the next head coach to bring in
- 21:58guys with him. Either it's for a camp battle or
- 22:01purely out of he that's his guy he trusts.
- 22:03And heck, if if North Texas gets in the cultural playoff, which
- 22:07they're kind of in line to right now, then I'm all for him
- 22:10bringing up whoever, Hey, you playing a cultural playoff game?
- 22:13We won one game, dude. You know, I mean, that's kind of
- 22:16where I'm at. Like, see what you got, bring it
- 22:19on up. Hopefully we can keep the rest
- 22:20of the guys around to have some, you know, kind of camp
- 22:23competitions. But if the other guys transfer
- 22:25out, I'm not going to blame them.
- 22:27This is a complete I wouldn't be I wouldn't think it'd be crazy
- 22:30to see a whole new roster next year.
- 22:32This year we've seen 27 guys who have never played for Oklahoma
- 22:35State already play this year, you know, 27 new guys.
- 22:39The number will probably keep going up by the end of the
- 22:42season. A side tangent, we have a dude
- 22:46who was not playing football last year and went to University
- 22:49Central Florida just as a student now as like our third
- 22:53Stringer and he transferred during the season like in
- 22:55September. I'm not sure how that works
- 22:58academically. I don't think it matters that
- 23:00much. I'm not worried about it, but
- 23:01like, we're at the depths, you know, when this is not like the
- 23:06sunny days are ahead. They're not here.
- 23:09So I'm excited to see what they look like.
- 23:11But I'm just, it's a whole blank slate.
- 23:12I'll take whatever, wherever you tell me the next head coach
- 23:16wants to do this, this whatever. Cool.
- 23:19Eric Morris is a former wide receiver for Texas Tech.
- 23:21Maybe he wants to bring a bunch of other wide receivers.
- 23:23I don't, I don't know. Alex Golish with South Florida,
- 23:27he's a former graduate assistant, Oklahoma State.
- 23:29He met his wife, I think at Oklahoma State, if I'm reading
- 23:32all the tea leaves correctly. So come on back to Stillwater
- 23:36and run whatever you want to run, whatever you think will
- 23:39work best 'cause we, we just know one thing for sure, it'll
- 23:42be different. What is the expectation like if
- 23:45we bring back Zach Robinson and you watch the Atlanta Falcons
- 23:48this year as a lot of Oklahoma State fans have?
- 23:50I'm sure they don't run a lot of pre snap motion.
- 23:52They don't do a lot of crazy things on offense.
- 23:54But they having they have studs, they don't have to do that.
- 23:57They have like the offense you'd want to pick to play with and
- 24:01then so they don't have to do that.
- 24:03So what does the Zach Robinson coach college team look like
- 24:07when he doesn't have all the guys?
- 24:08So just a blank slate, happy with whatever I think.
- 24:12Man, if you bring Eric Morris up, I think the biggest spoon
- 24:16out of that would be Mestemaker, the quarterback who has looked
- 24:20kind of really, really good. I mean, I think he's going to be
- 24:24out of power like Power 14, no question next year.
- 24:29I do want to get a little bit back into the position groups
- 24:31and and talk about the running backs.
- 24:33And this is a position that historically Oklahoma State is,
- 24:36you know, seeing a ton of success with.
- 24:38You mentioned some of those guys previously and you know,
- 24:42historically as I've watched Oklahoma State, you know,
- 24:45they've had a really good run game.
- 24:47Rodney Fields Junior been the guy that's really seen a bulk of
- 24:50the carries this season. close to 500 rushing yards on the
- 24:54year. Also getting some stuff in the
- 24:56in the past game, 218 receiving yards and two overall
- 25:00touchdowns. You have a couple other backs,
- 25:02Trent Howlin, Caleb Hicks, who have over 40 carries this
- 25:06season. You know, it it doesn't
- 25:09necessarily look like the the Oklahoma State kind of rush
- 25:12offensive old. But you know, what if opposing
- 25:14defenses done to to kind of maybe limit some of Oklahoma
- 25:18State's ability on the ground game this year.
- 25:20And, you know, have the past couple games that they've had,
- 25:24you know, given any hope that you might be able to get a
- 25:26little bit of a running game going this Saturday?
- 25:29Yeah, I mean, the the defenses really have done a great job of
- 25:33just bottling up any running back production, especially on
- 25:35the outside. I mean, the the one thing is
- 25:38like, it kind of all goes back to the blocking, unfortunately,
- 25:40is that just sometimes the defense doesn't have to rush an
- 25:44extra man and they can just match up and still bring it,
- 25:47still get a guy through pretty quickly.
- 25:49And sometimes they sometimes they don't.
- 25:51They just have guys just sitting there in zone and, you know, or
- 25:55the playing man coverage either way.
- 25:56But they're just waiting for Zane to make a decision back
- 25:59there under center or Sam Jackson the 5th.
- 26:01They are a wider super quarterback guy and that's
- 26:04worked out well for him too. Freddie Brock is on the roster.
- 26:10I thought he'd be doing much better.
- 26:11Georgia State transfer, the Rodney Fields, he he's the guy
- 26:16that you'll see. He and Wendell Gregor are the 2
- 26:19Oakland State guys you'd see us be really excited we got back
- 26:22next year. Like we'll just be, we'll be
- 26:24really happy if we can, we can bring both of them back because
- 26:27Rodney Fields looks really good when he has the ball and has
- 26:30some space. He's not given a ton of
- 26:32opportunity like that, especially because we're not
- 26:35throwing the ball that officially.
- 26:37So we don't really give the defense another look that they
- 26:40might have to worry about. We just, we're OK at running the
- 26:43ball, you know, 500 yards rushing with, you know, 8 or so
- 26:47games in the books. And he's not taking every snap
- 26:50as you just said. So it's OK, but it's not it.
- 26:55It's definitely not anywhere close to the offensive old.
- 26:57And there's just not a lot that the defenses have to worry
- 27:00about. They're able to play the run
- 27:01pretty good the whole time and kind of worry about a pass play
- 27:04here and there. But the passing game has just
- 27:07not been on par with what you would hope for the running game
- 27:10to open up. And our running game has not
- 27:11been good enough for the passing game to open up.
- 27:13It's just kind of, you know, kind of comes back around.
- 27:16So kind of a bummer there. But we're really hopeful we can
- 27:19bring Rodney Fields back next year for sure.
- 27:22Little double edged sword right there.
- 27:23One's not opening up for the other one.
- 27:25Yeah, you'll have that in the in the down season.
- 27:28But I want to talk about these receivers and tight ends
- 27:31specifically the receivers. I mean, Gavin Freeman is like
- 27:35the prototypical like when I when I remember Oklahoma State
- 27:39offenses, he's like that slot guy that would just, but now
- 27:42he's kind of have to be the primary receiver.
- 27:45He catches a ton of balls. Awesome possession receiver and
- 27:49he's completely tatted up aesthetic wise.
- 27:51Matt, you know, I'm a huge aesthetic guy.
- 27:54Love the way he looks absolutely insane, completely inked out.
- 27:59Talk to me about these receivers.
- 28:00Gavin Freeman just mentioned him.
- 28:02He's a dog. You mentioned the the gadget
- 28:05wide receiver slash quarterback. Talk to me about this receiving
- 28:09game and what can we look forward to?
- 28:11Like we've been known to the K State's been known to give up
- 28:14the big deep pass. I think you got a receiver on
- 28:16the the roster that's got 15.9 yards per completion.
- 28:21Talk to me about these receivers and can they exploit this K
- 28:24State defense? Exploit might be a little,
- 28:28little strong, but I think they can do something for sure.
- 28:32Like I, I think I mean Freeman, he's he's a transfer up from OU
- 28:36and he's taking every advantage he can that he's getting a lot
- 28:38of snacks to find a lot of open spaces.
- 28:41He plays a lot more like David Glidden and oh gosh, just a
- 28:49couple of, and I mean, I guess Wes Wolker, I mean, if you're
- 28:52really throwing it out there, but like he's able to kind of be
- 28:54a little bit smaller Dude under 6 feet, the gadget guy, He's
- 28:59he's got the tats. I mean, he is 58185, yeah.
- 29:02He reminds me of a little bit of like a less explosive though.
- 29:05You had a Presley kid. He was from like Bixby Brennan
- 29:09Presley. Yeah, Yeah, I think.
- 29:11I think their brother, his brother's actually going to
- 29:13Oklahoma State next year, I think, but.
- 29:15He's got like 6 brothers, one of them's coming to Oklahoma State.
- 29:18One of them was here and then transferred to Tulsa and then
- 29:20beat us. So you never know.
- 29:23But they're they're from Tulsa to be fair.
- 29:25And he wasn't in at Oklahoma State when he transferred out.
- 29:27So like now this hearing probably would have played.
- 29:30It's just funny how that all works.
- 29:32Yeah, he's a little bit like Brennan.
- 29:34And the fact he just gets open and then just makes he makes the
- 29:37catch, like a lot of passes hit his hands that just are caught,
- 29:41and especially ones that you wouldn't think.
- 29:42So tomorrow we're going to be Rigby's the guy you're
- 29:45mentioning. He's got the 15.6 yards per
- 29:47catch. He's just only gotten the ball
- 29:4916 times. I mean, really looking at this,
- 29:51I was on the podcast I was doing earlier today, you're talking
- 29:56about Justin Blackman and going through a little bit.
- 29:59Justin Blackman caught like 100 plus balls every year.
- 30:02He was with Oakland State all three years.
- 30:04And so seeing a guy here eight games in with 36 catches leading
- 30:07the team is is alarming. But also it makes sense.
- 30:11I mean, we're just having a good passing offense.
- 30:13Shamar Rigby might be the guy who wins some jump balls there
- 30:16because he's 6 foot 3190. I would love to see him and get
- 30:19some more passes thrown his way. And then our kind of converted
- 30:24wide receiver quarterback back to quarterback is Sam Jackson,
- 30:28who's got 7 receptions this season for about 10 yards.
- 30:31I mean that that's one thing is you're looking up now at
- 30:33Oklahoma State's like receiving. The averages are almost all for
- 30:38all the top guys. The averages are like 10 yards,
- 30:40if not more. It just is these guys are not
- 30:43getting the ball that much and you know, and they're not
- 30:45getting the ball often enough for that average to go down
- 30:47either. So our running backs, the second
- 30:50highest receiver on the team. So that just kind of tells you
- 30:53like how quickly we have to get rid of the ball, how we're not
- 30:56able to get a lot of guys in space.
- 30:58But Ronnie Fields, junior has 22 catches, his running back for
- 31:019.9 yards on average. Like pretty great at the end of
- 31:04the day, just let's keep feeding him.
- 31:06You know, I mean, he's got a catch of 63 yards that helps out
- 31:09a lot. But it's just not an it just
- 31:13hasn't been enough. Clearly didn't make any make any
- 31:16sense. We haven't, we haven't finished
- 31:18within a touchdown score wise of any game we played since the
- 31:23Tulsa loss and that was a touchdown loss.
- 31:26So and that was back in September 19th.
- 31:28So just a lot of our games have not been close enough for these
- 31:31wide receivers to be really stacking up some yardage or
- 31:34anything either like we need to throw to them.
- 31:36We've just been, you know, our last game was 3821 and that was
- 31:39a close game for us. So not overall, just fantastic.
- 31:43Yeah, you brought up a really like that Blackmun stat is
- 31:46really interesting to me because if you think about those
- 31:49Oklahoma State teams, he was there what it was like 910 and
- 31:5311. He was there for three years,
- 31:542019. 9:10 and. 11 I mean, like, obviously Brandon Whedon, you
- 31:59know, was a great quarterback and but that was like the heyday
- 32:03of Big 12 offenses airing the ball out.
- 32:07I mean, and today just how football, I feel like it's
- 32:11changed. You know, it, I think for a top
- 32:14team, I mean Oklahoma State was a top, you know, obviously 10
- 32:17team for, you know, two of those years.
- 32:20You know, I I guess I have to look at that wide receivers at
- 32:24top teams now to see like, but Jeremiah Smith has 65 receptions
- 32:28with three games left. I mean, and you would consider
- 32:32him to be, you know, one of the top wide receivers in the
- 32:35country. So it's just interesting kind of
- 32:37how how offenses have changed and what, 15 years, I guess,
- 32:42since Justin Blackman played man, he killed us in both those
- 32:47games. All right.
- 32:49I want to flip it over to the defensive side and talk a little
- 32:52bit about a unit that, you know, at the beginning of the season,
- 32:56Brian Nardo was the defensive coordinator.
- 33:00Was he? Who's the defensive coordinator?
- 33:01Todd Todd Grantham. Yeah, sorry.
- 33:04Nardo was offense coordinator from last year, right?
- 33:07And he was defensive. Nardo was defensive coordinator
- 33:09last. Year, last year, sorry anyway,
- 33:11but there I I remember kind of bringing in Todd Grantham as
- 33:16kind of, you know, a little bit of a change and, you know, you
- 33:20look at his kind of past, you know, stops and what he has done
- 33:23in college football. It was going to be interesting
- 33:26to see how this was going to play out for Oklahoma State this
- 33:28year. And, you know, obviously now
- 33:32Clint Bowen, who is the interim defensive coordinator is kind of
- 33:35trying to, you know, right, the ship kind of maybe later on here
- 33:38this season. But looking at Oklahoma State,
- 33:40statistically in the Big 12, they do give up the most yards
- 33:43in the conference, more points per game.
- 33:46It just seems like it's a unit that just hasn't necessarily had
- 33:49the pieces work together, you know, and, and, and a majority
- 33:53of the games this season. So, you know, thinking about K
- 33:56State and a lot of this K State success this year has come from
- 33:59explosive plays from the offensive side.
- 34:02I imagine that's kind of a point of emphasis from our offensive
- 34:05coordinator, Matt Wells going into this game.
- 34:08So kind of thinking about maybe what you've seen from K State
- 34:10this year and then obviously what you've seen from Oklahoma
- 34:13State on the defensive side. Is there anything that
- 34:15particularly concerns you about K State's offense going into
- 34:19this game against your defense? Yeah, I mean, he's he's got a
- 34:25quarterback under center who can run and that is incredible.
- 34:29Like a quarterback is just dynamic.
- 34:31He's a runner. He's known as that.
- 34:32That's incredibly worrying. Like last year we played, that
- 34:35was my number one concern going into that K State game was like
- 34:38is Avery going to get loose? Is he going to be able to make
- 34:41plays with his feet, feel super confident under center or in
- 34:45shotgun and be able to make plays where we've got to not
- 34:48only worry about his throwing ability but also running
- 34:50ability? And the second we have to worry
- 34:52about both, we're kind of dead in the water.
- 34:54I just knew that from the Arkansas game, how Taylor Green
- 34:56was just taking us apart, you know, in that we kind of got a
- 34:59couple of weird lucky interceptions and kind of
- 35:03turnovers that were shown our way and a couple other places
- 35:05went our way period that that, you know, maybe the plan again,
- 35:08don't. I mean, we took Arkansas to a
- 35:10double overtime win at home and we have AI think an interception
- 35:14to end the second overtime. And just just stuff like that
- 35:17where I knew when we played K State last year, it's like, all
- 35:19right, everybody can get going. That's tough.
- 35:22And that's really what the worry is again, to be honest, I mean,
- 35:24I don't think you guys have the greatest running game in the
- 35:27entire world, but I'm definitely worried about your running game
- 35:30just because we're we're dead last.
- 35:32And like, you know, it is just what it is.
- 35:35Like, I'm not trying to call it anything more than hey, you know
- 35:39what? We are worse in offense and
- 35:41defense again, in team stats this year average a game 38.8
- 35:46points that were giving up on defense and offense were scoring
- 35:4915.2. Like it it, it's just, it's just
- 35:53really a bad luck. And I would be shocked honestly,
- 35:56if we hope K State's under 38 points because I think you guys
- 35:59do have an explosive offense as you mentioned.
- 36:02And I don't think there's a lot of, hey, this is the time to
- 36:07take a stand. Like this is the game to make a
- 36:09stand just because it's not senior day and you guys are 20
- 36:13point favorites. Like I I do think that gets in
- 36:15all students heads as well too. Like it's not going into this
- 36:19one. I was hoping hey, Hossein will
- 36:21be back, etcetera, etcetera. And this will be the closest
- 36:23game we have of the year because you guys in your four and five,
- 36:26we had to play Iowa State later on.
- 36:28He was not four and five, no offense, right?
- 36:30Like that's the other at home game we have.
- 36:32We might beat UCF at UCF, but like I'm looking at like what
- 36:35are possible when in the season and after we lost Tulsa, I was
- 36:39like hopefully K State and it just there's just no way.
- 36:44I mean, you guys are like nowhere near the bottom in
- 36:46either offense or defensive stats.
- 36:48You're not at the very top, but like you're middle of the pack.
- 36:51It's it it's I think I'm rightfully going yeah, you guys
- 36:55probably going to have a lot of points.
- 36:57I'd be surprised to be on score 40 just because our defense has
- 36:59had a lot of points and not really held a lot of held the
- 37:03teams. It's a lot of field goals.
- 37:04So. Yeah, I'm terrified of
- 37:06Stillwater. I, I'm, I'm trying to get on
- 37:08board with what you're saying. And I, I love that you're
- 37:11pumping me right now, but it's not, I'm not, I don't believe it
- 37:15yet. Because you've got guys on that
- 37:17side of the ball like Wendell Gregory, that we just played
- 37:20Texas Tech. And I'm not going to say that
- 37:23like your D line is anywhere near as powerful as Texas Tech,
- 37:27who's like one of the tops in the the country.
- 37:29But Wendell Gregory is an absolute dude and he he can get
- 37:33after the quarterback. He can change games and with our
- 37:36offensive line the way it is, I'm not going to put it past
- 37:40anybody that he can make a game out of anything with a, you
- 37:43know, a couple sack game of Avery Johnson.
- 37:45So talk to me about this D line. I know you just you mentioned
- 37:49earlier in the the episode that we're probably going to be
- 37:52sending double teams his way. But outside of him, can you talk
- 37:56to me about this pass rush on the D line and maybe even
- 37:59sprinkle a little bit of this linebacker core because I want
- 38:02to know what the front that you're you're, you're throwing
- 38:04out there is, is it, are you loading this box?
- 38:07I mean, what, what has Oklahoma State done defensively?
- 38:10Because I know it's, it can't. It's got to be far from the Jim
- 38:12Knowles 335, right? Yeah, it's something like that.
- 38:16I mean, the defensive Internet defensive coordinator came over
- 38:20from Tulsa. His son is one of the
- 38:22quarterbacks on the team, one of the four.
- 38:25It's kind of the state of the program.
- 38:27But we're we're we've got Julio Johnson out there on defensive
- 38:31ends like I thought he was. I didn't Wendell Gregory come in
- 38:33this season as a freshman transfer from South Carolina.
- 38:36Julio Johnson was the name that I knew coming into the season.
- 38:39And then on the other guy whose defensive tackle or nose tackle
- 38:42is Aman Oates. And he's the other guy who I'm
- 38:44like, hey, he's, he's pretty good.
- 38:47And I'm surprised all three of these guys, you know, including
- 38:51Wendell Gregory, have not been able to grate more than 5
- 38:54fumbles on the season. Now that's not worse than Big
- 38:5712, but Baylor and BYE or the worst Big 12 with four fumbles
- 39:01great on the season. So it's not a not a great stat
- 39:04overall, they are really taking a ton away from.
- 39:06But like interceptions, say we've got 3 interceptions on the
- 39:09season forced. That's one more than Kane than
- 39:12Cincinnati, excuse me. And then when it comes down to
- 39:15at the end of the day, like our, our defense should be more of a
- 39:19calling card. It should be something that
- 39:20we're really proud and excited about.
- 39:22We just it, it's bizarre that like we can't put it all
- 39:26together. We can't have one game where we
- 39:29kind of get everything all going together.
- 39:31And I, I get it, but I, I, I don't know it, it's really
- 39:38tough. Like we have, we, we don't have
- 39:43a guy in the top or I guess Brian McCoy junior is our top
- 39:46tack is our top tackler for any guy in the Big 12, top rated
- 39:50guy. And he's down there 25th for,
- 39:54you know, about a tackle on a season.
- 39:55So not the greatest look for us overall as a, as a team, but
- 39:59like we're, we could, we could stay in the game longer than you
- 40:03would think. I'm not trying to say we're
- 40:04going to get obliterated like a 20 point win is.
- 40:08Pretty good and it's not really a close game, but then again,
- 40:12like we will show up, we will score some points one would
- 40:14think. I don't think your guys's
- 40:16defense is as good as Texas tax and that's who held us
- 40:19scoreless. But I also don't think your
- 40:21defense is bad enough where we're going to make it more of a
- 40:24game than we did against Kansas. If I'm using the Kansas
- 40:27barometer as something to take away from you guys play Kansas,
- 40:30beat them pretty good. We play Kansas, we lose to them
- 40:34by 21 points, but we were in it for a little bit of the game, so
- 40:38there's some happiness take away from it, just not a ton.
- 40:43I want to last, you know, kind of position group on the
- 40:46defensive side, talk about the secondary.
- 40:48You have a guy who's been a five year guy in the secondary and
- 40:51Parker Robinson and he's I think third in the team in tackles, 54
- 40:59total tackles, has an interception this year as well
- 41:01as a forced fumble. But you know, a guy, again, when
- 41:04I think of Oklahoma State of guys that, you know, stay in the
- 41:07program for a long time and they end up, you know, really making
- 41:11an impact in their kind of later, later years.
- 41:15A few other names, Mordecai McDaniel, he's a Charlotte
- 41:18transfer that came in this year. He has 38 total tackles, one
- 41:21sack. And then from a quarterback
- 41:23position, Ladainian Fields has an interception with 9 tackles.
- 41:27Kenneth Harris and Cam Smith have over 20 tackles at the
- 41:31position. K State, I mean, has shown this
- 41:34year they've had a pretty good vertical passing attack,
- 41:36multiple receivers who you know, who do have some big
- 41:39playability. That being said, JB Bradley
- 41:42expected to be out for this game.
- 41:44Chase Brown has not been 100% this year.
- 41:46So what have you seen from the defensive backs this season And
- 41:51and you know, what kind of coverage between maybe man and
- 41:53zone can we expect to see from this team?
- 41:58I got to be honest, I'm not the best dissecting all of that.
- 42:01So like this like zone versus man.
- 42:03I'm the guy who wanted to play high school football but never
- 42:06did because I had glasses and braces the entire time.
- 42:08And I've tried to do my best to learn more of the offensive side
- 42:11of it since then, but I Parker Robertson is one of the nicest
- 42:17and one of the best people I've ever met.
- 42:19But like he is a former walk on. So just take it for granted.
- 42:22Like he is he is the heart and soul of this defense.
- 42:25If Wendell Gregory's not like he he is the guy he's marrying one
- 42:29of the the palm girls engaged to him like he is Oklahoma State
- 42:33for and for and he's an awesome dude.
- 42:35It it just is kind of like a matter of the fact deal where
- 42:38like you would hope that he wouldn't.
- 42:41He would be a supportive guy. He would be a guy you'd be
- 42:43talking about as like a playmaker, a dude who oh, and
- 42:47then they've also got Parker Robertson.
- 42:48But like instead we're kind of leaning off talking with them,
- 42:51which is again, just kind of a state of where we're at.
- 42:53We got guys transferring out all the time.
- 42:55We got one one on the season. I'm not saying anything I
- 42:57haven't said earlier. We just Ledani Fields has thrown
- 43:02up played pretty good, but like not good enough.
- 43:06I don't think we have a defensive guy besides window
- 43:08Gregory that other teams are really worried and have to focus
- 43:11on or about. We don't have like a guy from
- 43:13the any of the three levels of the defense, you know, whether
- 43:16it be the defensive backs, linebackers, defensive line that
- 43:20really bring a ton of worry to teams.
- 43:23And and if you've got some big boys up front, you're going to
- 43:25be able to handle window Gregory enough that that the rest of the
- 43:28guys are going to be muted and not make a huge difference.
- 43:31I, I, I will say I think Parker Robertson probably gets
- 43:35interception before the year's over.
- 43:36He just seems like he's due. He's put his couple of couple
- 43:39mitts on a couple balls and hasn't worked out exactly.
- 43:43He just hasn't come down with it.
- 43:44It has to been a little bit too erratic for him to pull it off,
- 43:46but I, I, I'm more than like really proud that like he's
- 43:51played the whole season. He's played really tough like
- 43:53with a infields, like a lot of the guys who are who are on the
- 43:56team in games are not quitting, which is great to see.
- 43:59Of course, we did see a little bit of that last year.
- 44:01I'm not going to name names, but certain guy transferred down
- 44:04South who wasn't putting up 110% effort for Oklahoma State last
- 44:07year it seemed, and now it seems like he is putting up 110%
- 44:11effort and he's making a huge name for himself.
- 44:14So props to I mean props to Kendall Daniels.
- 44:16I'll say his name now, but like you would just hope that all
- 44:20these guys keep trying as hard as they can, because then I
- 44:23think that's how we could stay in a game and and and actually
- 44:26win. It's like, Hey, K state score
- 44:27the first possession. All right, cool, let's make sure
- 44:30they don't score the second possession or the third
- 44:32possession. And how can we kind of try to
- 44:34cause back into it? It does seem like our offense
- 44:36seems a little bit to get going each time and it's not that hot
- 44:40to start. And that's very emblematic of a
- 44:43retrofreshment quarterback, you know, and an offensive line
- 44:46that's not the greatest of the world and offensive backs who
- 44:50are all new or changing scenery or change of pace.
- 44:53And the one running back we didn't talk about is Trent
- 44:55Howland. He's going to run some weird
- 44:58Wildcat stuff, I assume. And he also may just run over
- 45:01you guys. I mean, that dude, he's
- 45:02physically a massive guy. And Trent Howland is not in a
- 45:06tush push next year for some team.
- 45:08I'd be shocked. I mean, he's that he's that he's
- 45:10a fullback who's playing running back.
- 45:12He's Derrick Henry size. He just, of course, it's not
- 45:15Derrick Henry fast, but it's Derrick Henry size.
- 45:18You know, if he wants Derrick Henry fast, he would.
- 45:21We'd be making more noise than we are now for sure.
- 45:24Yeah, well, you know, just as important as a running back with
- 45:28Derrick Henry size is a kicker that has a leg that can make
- 45:32kicks. You got one that has made all of
- 45:35his extra points. He's 11 of 15 on the season.
- 45:39Or is it 1114? I don't want to discredit my
- 45:42guy. Logan Ward, 11 of 15, talk to me
- 45:46about the kickers real quick. You know, just highlight them
- 45:49because I, I think he's kind of a bright spot.
- 45:51I like 11 of 15. I will take that from a college
- 45:54kicker every time. And then that's the first part
- 45:57of my question and I want to get back to the second part.
- 46:00So kickoffs for Oklahoma State, which I'm pretty sure is our
- 46:05Logan Ward guy here, we're first in the conference in kickoffs.
- 46:08I mean many yardage like a kickoffs first in the Big 12
- 46:13yeah, our average yards a game in in kickoffs is pretty high up
- 46:17there. So you know our net excuse me,
- 46:22is the exact term I was looking for so pretty good there.
- 46:24And Logan Ward's a a pretty darn good kicker.
- 46:27He is 11 to 15. And you know, I mean that
- 46:30percentage on on field goals total in the season is
- 46:33incredible. And point after touchdown Grant,
- 46:36we are not going to have a lot of touchdowns, but he's perfect.
- 46:39He's 14 to 14. So he doesn't get much better
- 46:42than that. And then Wes Paul or or punter,
- 46:46as you know, he's 6/6 in the in the conference in punting that
- 46:52Putzburg game. He's that punts.
- 46:53Excuse me? He's 41.5, which is tied with
- 46:57like #3 in the Big 12 in BYU. So we're pretty darn good.
- 47:02If we if we could just be kicking it more often, we'd be
- 47:06better if we somehow figure out a way to run more plays with our
- 47:10kicker and Hunter in. I love it.
- 47:14OK, Now my very, this is my very specific Oklahoma State question
- 47:19that I only asked you guys. What are the uniform
- 47:22combinations you're going to be wearing for senior?
- 47:25I I love this for Oklahoma State because you probably have
- 47:28arguably the best combinations of anybody in the conference.
- 47:34For but you're asking for this weekend or for senior?
- 47:36Yeah, I I don't, I don't know if they because usually like
- 47:39uniform Twitter is like one of the best things and they do
- 47:42reveals and stuff down season. I don't know if they're doing
- 47:45that right now, but what would be your guess if you if you had
- 47:49to guess? So my guess is we wear well,
- 47:57it's a it's a day game, so or it's 11 AM pick up.
- 47:59So we're not wearing black. I wouldn't think otherwise.
- 48:02If it's a night time game, we might wear black, but otherwise
- 48:04probably not. It's the jersey.
- 48:07I I bet we're wearing orange and then black, orange, black.
- 48:11To be honest, I I bet that's it, Black, orange, black with a
- 48:14little cowboy script helmet, just because I'm wearing a
- 48:16script. So I'd love to see it.
- 48:19I feel like it's just a really clean good luck we've got going.
- 48:21Maybe we'll break out a helmet with Pete on it on the side.
- 48:24That'd be kind of sick. I really want the Chrome helmets
- 48:29back. Like what do we have to do to
- 48:30get the Chrome back in action? The James.
- 48:34The Oklahoma State played Washington and the bowl game and
- 48:37we wore these orange Chrome helmets.
- 48:39We had a defensive lineman named James Castman leak out like he
- 48:43played for the off like he played for the Detroit Lions and
- 48:46got thrown the pass and trucked a dude and part of his helmet
- 48:49chips off. Like everyone's probably seen
- 48:51the GIF if it's not describing it, maybe not the best.
- 48:55Like we're the orange orange Chrome helmets.
- 48:57Bring them back. Let's do let's do full orange
- 48:59Chrome unis Chrome lettering on the numbers.
- 49:01Like I would love to see that. I instead probably think it's
- 49:04like black, orange, black. And we're not putting out the
- 49:06world's greatest uniforms, but honestly, with Justin Blackman
- 49:10back for the weekend, maybe we do a little retro vibe.
- 49:13We do a little those. Grays.
- 49:15Black, black, orange, orange or something.
- 49:18You know, bring the Grays back. I love the Grays that you guys
- 49:22used to wear too. Those were just like out of
- 49:24nowhere, just like a little Gray accent in there.
- 49:27A grey accent or grey hole jersey.
- 49:30I think they had. I think you guys wore the grey.
- 49:32No, no, what? What do you want?
- 49:34Because I'm very opinionated in this.
- 49:36OK, well, for me, I like them, but I I'm not too deep in there.
- 49:40But like for me, I think that Oklahoma State should do
- 49:45something like similar. Not necessarily there's two
- 49:47different oranges, but what the, what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers do
- 49:51with the Creamsicle. I think you guys deserve like a
- 49:55Creamsicle uniform. That's what I would want.
- 50:00When you said I'm not too deep into it, pause.
- 50:03I don't know if the Gray unis are like the best unis you ever
- 50:07had. Like you're not too deep into
- 50:10the Grays because like you, you, you don't know where I'm leaning
- 50:13here. I'm against them like.
- 50:15You are. We, we are orange.
- 50:18We are Oklahoma State. We have the America's brightest
- 50:21orange. That's our more orange.
- 50:23Yeah, I. I but I'm also the dork in high
- 50:26school who wore like Boise State colour school.
- 50:29I was like, I love blue and I'm going to Oklahoma State.
- 50:31I'm wearing orange and blue every day like and it was Boise
- 50:33State, boy, it was not Navy. So like I am that dork.
- 50:36So just take over the grain of salt.
- 50:38Like my my jersey opinions are probably not the greatest in the
- 50:41world, but like Gray is like a suit.
- 50:43You know, when Gray really shows sweat And like, you know, we're
- 50:47we're flashy. We're a cool office for a full
- 50:50school. Like come to Oklahoma State
- 50:51because like we've got banana guys in the stands and got guys
- 50:54waiting on their shirts off, you know, and stuff like that.
- 50:57And it's just we got a whole no shirty one section instead of
- 51:00231. Like, come on, come to Oklahoma
- 51:03State. See the bright color?
- 51:04See the bright America's brightest orange.
- 51:06Like be proud of the orange. Like let's wear more.
- 51:09The Gray was fine as pants, weird as a helmet, because it
- 51:13was like Matt, totally cool with it for like when we have like
- 51:18our Oh gosh, I'm gonna we have like our military appreciation
- 51:23game. I'm totally cool with a lot of
- 51:26grade for that game, but outside of that we're we we got some
- 51:31sick uniforms. I agree correctly.
- 51:34Let's let's wear more orange. That's that's my opinion
- 51:37personal. I think they're going to do
- 51:39white, orange. White, orange, white.
- 51:44I mean, you can't go white. Orange, black.
- 51:45What are you, a tiny corn white? Orange.
- 51:48Orange. You didn't do WOB or WOW.
- 51:51Either way, we have the acronym set up for it to be clear.
- 51:53White, orange, Orange. Woo.
- 51:56Little woo, little. Woo, isn't that I?
- 52:01I swear they had. They did white and then orange.
- 52:03Orange once. I think they've done so many
- 52:06different companies. Multiple Yeah, now, now that I'm
- 52:08like freaking Googling this because I'm like, I, I mean, I
- 52:12agree. Like the black men, the black
- 52:14men, white helmets with the like the old, like blocky OSU on the
- 52:19side was like, that's how I remember Oklahoma State, like
- 52:22prime Oklahoma State. Yeah.
- 52:25Now they've gone more script than ever before.
- 52:28And I love the script. Well, I have a script pokes or
- 52:32is that frowned? Upon in Oklahoma State world
- 52:34Well, well, chef, we're deep into the Jersey Lord so I don't
- 52:37know if you mind me sharing my screen here but we have the
- 52:40whole deal set up here so I think you guys got it yeah,
- 52:46we've got all right we've got record.
- 52:49Is that record? Change for the.
- 52:51Losses. We've got the black helmet, the
- 52:54orange helmet, white helmet. We got the jersey, you got the
- 52:56pants. You know, we got it all broken
- 52:58down here real well. Shout out to Justin Southwell.
- 53:00I believe he runs this out at Southwell on on Twitter X
- 53:06wherever you see it. He does his own podcast too with
- 53:08the reload. They do a great job.
- 53:11Former former walk on Oklahoma State cowboy just there's.
- 53:14Three and O with there. I know there's three and O with
- 53:17woo. No good.
- 53:18Three and O with woo. Hey, you guys are trying to call
- 53:22them to Stillwater and win. We're we're trying to win,
- 53:24period. I don't know what's wrong with
- 53:26grey, black, grey, That's one and O.
- 53:28Grey, black, grey. OK.
- 53:30Black. What?
- 53:30Yeah, I mean, we, we, we've got it like jerseys all orange,
- 53:37weirdly enough, for three and 131.
- 53:39Wow. OK, I'm just trying to find a
- 53:41bad bad combo that's got just the worst combo.
- 53:46Black or never worn? Orange, grey, grey.
- 53:49That's interesting. Like there's combos that you
- 53:52don't even add that you haven't even cracked out yet, which is.
- 53:55We both are never wearing grey, orange, orange, you know.
- 54:00From a Kansas State perspective, this board just is mind blowing.
- 54:05Like it's insane. I'm very jealous.
- 54:08Let's. I'm very jealous as well.
- 54:10When we when we are wearing all whites at home and everybody's
- 54:14flipping out for the. First time poop their pants into
- 54:16that, that is what we get. Well, I think of anything you
- 54:20want us to wear an orange helmet because we're 1816 in those.
- 54:24And then you definitely want us to wear a white jersey, which.
- 54:29Probably not. Probably.
- 54:30Not going to do. I'm not going to do that.
- 54:34Just wear orange helmet, orange pants and well now that's
- 54:39better. Win orange helmet and black
- 54:41pants and then do whatever you want with the jersey.
- 54:44I doubt that's. The jersey ring workout.
- 54:46Every jersey we've worn, we somehow have just killed it.
- 54:49I don't know how it works. Yeah.
- 54:52I mean, we've, we've got, we've got the, I mean the whole bottom
- 54:54right corner of this where we wear a grey.
- 54:56We're a grey helmet. We basically lose, you know, or
- 54:58we don't claim it. Yeah.
- 55:01I mean, we're seven. No, in white, black, white.
- 55:04So as long as we don't wear white, black, white, we're good.
- 55:07You know, I mean, there's, there's there's some stuff here
- 55:09going on. I think he want us to really
- 55:12wear the black orange because we're one in three.
- 55:15And that's also one of the things I was saying we'd wear.
- 55:18So you're like, hey, hey, Cal gets his wish when we also have
- 55:22a better record when they're black, orange, orange.
- 55:24So yeah. I mean.
- 55:26That's that's the. Question you're asking, I'm
- 55:29against the Gray, but and I'm glad you're deep in it, but I'm
- 55:33not. I'm just from a fan, fan
- 55:36perspective that that is one of the highlights of Oklahoma State
- 55:39because I've, I've never had any qualms with Oklahoma State ever,
- 55:43other than you guys beating us constantly in Stillwater.
- 55:46I, I love Oklahoma State. So from a fan perspective, I
- 55:50hope that you guys get whatever you want as long as it's not
- 55:53Colin Klein. And, you know, I just, I just
- 55:57hope you guys get back to the, the potential that I know that
- 56:00you guys have because going into the two seasons ago when
- 56:05Oklahoma left and that whole fiasco and Texas left, everyone
- 56:09is wondering who was going to take that that step and be the,
- 56:13you know, the front runner in the conference.
- 56:16And I, I couldn't, you couldn't have told me that Gundy was gone
- 56:19and Oklahoma State wasn't going to be at least have their hat in
- 56:22the ring. And now here we are.
- 56:24Yeah. Here we are.
- 56:26Here we are. We would have thought, you know,
- 56:29it's got that spider man meme meme pointing at all of us.
- 56:32You know, we're all pointing at each other.
- 56:33I because I never would have thought we'd be here.
- 56:36Never would have thought that this would have been how this
- 56:37season would go. To be honest, I thought Gundy
- 56:39would coach out the rest of the whole season and then we'd beat
- 56:42Tulsa. We might be two and, you know,
- 56:45two wins, but. And what, like we hadn't lost to
- 56:48Tulsa in Stillwater since the 50s, I think.
- 56:52I mean, that that record coming down like that was when you kind
- 56:55of know, all right, Gundy's probably getting fired.
- 56:58Yeah, probably, you know. Yeah, all right.
- 57:01Prediction Time. Yeah, I think let's go around,
- 57:05you know, this is a a game for me and I think about like K
- 57:09State, you know, we finally kind of exorcised the demon of
- 57:13winning a game on the road against KUA few weeks ago.
- 57:15We hadn't won a game on the road in over a year at that time.
- 57:20There's some things that give me pause about this game.
- 57:23I'm thinking about like an 11:00 kick a team that I'm not saying
- 57:28they don't have anything to play for anymore, but there isn't as
- 57:30much excitement I think coming out of the program right now and
- 57:34it gives me a little bit of pause for this game that I see a
- 57:3619 1/2 point spread to cover. I just don't I don't see that we
- 57:44have some injuries on defence. I I don't know.
- 57:48I, I do think I think we win. I think K state wins 3821.
- 57:54I think Oklahoma State covers the 19 1/2.
- 57:59I I would not be surprised to see this closer.
- 58:01I, I just, I don't know, I just think we could have the
- 58:04potential to start off slow in a game that, you know, their main
- 58:10not this is nothing against Oklahoma State, but I just
- 58:12think, you know, we're four and five and what are we playing
- 58:17for? And that's, that's what maybe
- 58:19I'm a little bit concerned about, but I think K State wins
- 58:23this game. My prediction is 3821.
- 58:28OK, I'll go next and I'll leave Cal to end it and top US off
- 58:32with whatever he thinks is going to happen.
- 58:34I've got, I think Vegas has this number perfectly. 19 1/2 is, I
- 58:38mean, dead on it. That's exactly where I would
- 58:40have thought this game would go. I see Rd.
- 58:43I don't see how we can score 40. As much as Cal wants to get my
- 58:47hopes up and there's no chance, I think we score 40.
- 58:49I think 33 is probably the high end of where I'm going, so I'm
- 58:53going to go that way just because Vegas is telling me to.
- 58:57I'm going to go 33 to 13. I think our defense still has
- 59:01some life, even though we've lost Austin Romain for the
- 59:07season, which is terrible, terrible news to hear. 3313, we
- 59:12win by 20. Give me the cats. 4 field goals.
- 59:17Hey, Rodriguez is one of the best in the Big 12.
- 59:21Yeah, OK. I think there's some funny, I
- 59:22think there's some funny business in there with some
- 59:24safety, safety as well. And A and a miss 2 point
- 59:28conversion miss, you know, something like that.
- 59:30Be like the the Chargers Steelers game last night, which
- 59:33score was 5 to 3 at one point. Yeah, what?
- 59:39I mean, so, so far, so far this season, you guys have scored
- 59:44quite a bit of points in every game.
- 59:46I mean, you know, I mean, yeah, you scored seventeen against
- 59:48Arizona, but I'm talking that's forever ago now.
- 59:52But the last what? The last three games, you guys
- 59:54have put up 40 in each of the about 3:00 last games or excuse
- 59:57me? No, no, that was but you put 20.
- 1:00:00This is your get right game. You put you, you, you play Texas
- 1:00:03Tech. And they'd be, you know, was at
- 1:00:06home and didn't feel great. And now you can go out and just
- 1:00:09kill A-Team. Like just go, hey, let's let's
- 1:00:12show everyone we're made of what's this is this is the bye
- 1:00:15week. We got basically back-to-back
- 1:00:17bye weeks. Like that's that's what you
- 1:00:19know, you got to coach worth his soul.
- 1:00:20He's walking in the room and going, hey, here's the deal.
- 1:00:24We're playing a team this week that's lasting offense and
- 1:00:26defense in the conference by a wide margin.
- 1:00:30Are we going to win or what? Like let's who are you guys?
- 1:00:33And then also, this isn't like backs against the wall.
- 1:00:36If we don't win this, we don't go to a bowl game.
- 1:00:37You don't win this one. You still could beat Utah and
- 1:00:40beat Colorado now that season go to a bowl game.
- 1:00:42Now I don't I don't protect you to beat Utah.
- 1:00:44So you kind of got to win this one to to go to a bowl game.
- 1:00:46But like it's it's this is a home game.
- 1:00:50I mean, you know, for Oklahoma State, that's really what we've
- 1:00:52got going for us. Besides that, like maybe maybe
- 1:00:55Shamar Rigby and Terrell Davis decide, hey, Justin Blackman's
- 1:00:58in the building. We got to show them up.
- 1:01:00We put up some record amount of points.
- 1:01:02Our defense gets a couple picks. But in all reality, I, I do
- 1:01:05think this is probably, probably I, I'm going to say it's closer.
- 1:01:09I'm going to say it's 3120130124 because I am an Oklahoma State
- 1:01:13fan. I do see that we're building on
- 1:01:15something week over week and the offense is turning upwards and
- 1:01:19we had a quarterback last game against KU who came back from
- 1:01:22injury to kind of rush back and play it seen from all the
- 1:01:25wording from coaches. This time he's got another bye
- 1:01:27week. He's got should be fully
- 1:01:28healthy, should have the often squirter should be able to go.
- 1:01:32Hey, listen, like we're able to lay out a whole game plan for a
- 1:01:34bye week. What do we got?
- 1:01:36This would be it. I still think K Co one, don't
- 1:01:38get me wrong, but I think we'll cover the spread and maybe even
- 1:01:41within 10 seven points. So I'm going to say 3121 is my
- 1:01:44final. I think that's going to be it
- 1:01:47just because I also think like you guys will run the ball and
- 1:01:50we'll be running the balls. There won't be that much time to
- 1:01:52put up kind of points either. And that'd be barely under the
- 1:01:55over, under that Vegas has got, I think, or maybe barely over.
- 1:01:59I think it was 51 half. So like I'm right on the number.
- 1:02:01So that's where it comes from too.
- 1:02:04Good stuff. Well, Cal, thank you so much for
- 1:02:06coming on the show. Let all the cokeheads know where
