- 0:00Speaker 1: All Star to Yoda presents Off the Bench with Jacob
- 0:03Speaker 1: Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where.
- 0:06Speaker 1: The plays get broken down and science gets denied to.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Come off the bench.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Our two of Off the Bench Live from the Raisin
- 0:14Speaker 1: Caines Studio.
- 0:30Speaker 3: All right, welcome back, and I went over to OTV
- 0:33Speaker 3: here live from the Raising Kane Studio. U.
- 0:38Speaker 4: It was a good question in the chat, Jake, how
- 0:41Speaker 4: was the coaching interviews in meetings this morning? You don't
- 0:44Speaker 4: fool me. I know where you were. You were at
- 0:46Speaker 4: football Ops. It went well, it went good. We're just kidding.
- 0:51Speaker 4: That would make too much sense. I don't want to
- 0:57Speaker 4: do that. Uh, that lo'king weird now.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Doctor Stephen Etheridge here with us as he is every
- 1:06Speaker 3: single Wednesday.
- 1:07Speaker 2: What's up, Doc? How are we doing doing well?
- 1:09Speaker 5: How y'all doing?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Uh? Doing good? Doing good?
- 1:12Speaker 3: Much better than Matt as you know that old man
- 1:16Speaker 3: over there.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Yep, I made that back. He out of me.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Doc got his own he's got his own special chair.
- 1:22Speaker 2: He's sitting on him. He's sitting on a blanket.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Tick blanket. Though he's formed nicely. Gives me a little
- 1:29Speaker 4: pressure relief on the lower lumbar.
- 1:32Speaker 5: All we can do.
- 1:33Speaker 4: That's all we can do, Doc, and take you know, pills.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Not much worse, doesn't I just I don't know that
- 1:42Speaker 3: it does get worse.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Then when you have back.
- 1:44Speaker 5: Problems, that's rough back at the you know, you hear
- 1:46Speaker 5: about it all the time.
- 1:47Speaker 2: But there's a reason, Yeah, Doc, why do I have
- 1:49Speaker 2: shooting pains into my legs?
- 1:51Speaker 5: It's the nerves, got Doc?
- 1:54Speaker 3: When my hamstrings are throbbing because my back hurts, what
- 1:56Speaker 3: does that mean?
- 1:58Speaker 2: Mine was I don't know, growing hamstrings about a.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Year maybe maybe longer than a year ago, maybe a
- 2:04Speaker 3: year and a half ago. I was in the same
- 2:05Speaker 3: spot and I had to go see Doc as well,
- 2:08Speaker 3: and it was my groin, My growing was tip. I'm like,
- 2:12Speaker 3: wait a minute's on the other side. What's going on here?
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:15Speaker 6: The back's a mystery. It's always a it's a it's
- 2:18Speaker 6: always in play there.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Why would any why would anybody want that to be
- 2:24Speaker 3: their specialty?
- 2:24Speaker 6: Though, Oh gosh, I give a lot of credit to
- 2:27Speaker 6: our guys upstairs. We got the spine guys, and they
- 2:29Speaker 6: I couldn't do what they.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Did because I don't I don't know how this stuff connects,
- 2:34Speaker 3: but it shouldn't be connected.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I don't think, but it does.
- 2:37Speaker 6: It's it's a mystery. Like I said, it's it's always
- 2:39Speaker 6: in play. The back is always always part of it.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Oh so, uh, how was your trip to UH to
- 2:46Speaker 3: Tuscaloosa and Birmingham.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Trip? Trip was good?
- 2:49Speaker 2: Was good.
- 2:50Speaker 5: The game, you know, we all saw it, so a
- 2:52Speaker 5: lot of fight out there.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Though.
- 2:53Speaker 5: I was proud of the guys. They they gave their effort.
- 2:55Speaker 2: It was still like to win. Yeah, the effort was
- 3:01Speaker 2: good to see though. It was Yeah, it was it was.
- 3:04Speaker 5: It was a good vibe and.
- 3:05Speaker 2: It just you got to execute. That's it. Yeah, we'll
- 3:08Speaker 2: get there healthy. We come out pretty pretty good.
- 3:10Speaker 5: Not too bad.
- 3:11Speaker 6: You know, we had a few little Nixon bobo's, nothing
- 3:13Speaker 6: too crazy this week, So I think, you know, in
- 3:15Speaker 6: a game like that, that's that's a win.
- 3:17Speaker 5: So we'll take that victory.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Uh you mentioned I know you said Travis Hunter is
- 3:23Speaker 3: out for the year.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Yes, I saw that.
- 3:25Speaker 4: For LCL. Uh yeah, kind of explained the l c L.
- 3:29Speaker 4: And I know we've all heard of like the big meniscus,
- 3:32Speaker 4: a C, L M c L, all that stuff, but
- 3:34Speaker 4: LCL is kind of one you don't really hear a
- 3:36Speaker 4: lot about. But he's out designated out for the season.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Yeah, it is a little bit of a weirder injury,
- 3:42Speaker 5: for sure. You do see it.
- 3:43Speaker 6: Obviously. We have a great example we're talking about right now.
- 3:45Speaker 6: You know, the the initial reports with the Travis Hunter
- 3:48Speaker 6: or that he had a non contact knee injury, and
- 3:50Speaker 6: that's always one that makes us cringe. Yeah, guy leaves
- 3:53Speaker 6: the field for a non contact knee. I mean, the
- 3:55Speaker 6: first thing we typically think is it's an a c L,
- 3:57Speaker 6: and that's just where our brains go. And in this scenario,
- 4:00Speaker 6: it was a ligament injury. The lcls the lateral collateral ligament.
- 4:03Speaker 6: It's the ligament on the outside of the knee, so
- 4:06Speaker 6: it kind of runs kind of along that outside joint line,
- 4:08Speaker 6: keeps the knee from going right, it's the lower leg
- 4:11Speaker 6: from going in and it's an unusual isolated injury. Usually
- 4:15Speaker 6: if you have an LCL injury, you're gonna see that
- 4:16Speaker 6: as part of a bigger knee injury where you've had
- 4:18Speaker 6: a multi ligament injury or meniscus and lots of other things.
- 4:21Speaker 6: In his case, all the reports are just an l CL.
- 4:24Speaker 6: It's it's a still a surgical repair though, so he's
- 4:27Speaker 6: still he's still gonna be out, he'll miss the rest
- 4:29Speaker 6: of the year. It's you know, about a six six
- 4:30Speaker 6: months or so before he's football already. You know, there's
- 4:33Speaker 6: some variability there, so it's not as long as an ACL,
- 4:36Speaker 6: but it's typically gonna be a season injury. Do you
- 4:38Speaker 6: ever see lcls with non contact? You know, I actually
- 4:43Speaker 6: have not. That's not one I've seen personally. It is
- 4:46Speaker 6: obviously again we see him, but that's a pretty rare injury,
- 4:49Speaker 6: so it's kind of kind of unique to see that
- 4:51Speaker 6: when isolated. You wonder if maybe he'd had a previous
- 4:53Speaker 6: injury where maybe it was already a little bit loose
- 4:55Speaker 6: or something. But but yeah, it's not one that I've
- 4:57Speaker 6: I can recall, at least ever seeing isolated. I'm sure
- 4:59Speaker 6: there may than one that I'm forgetting, but it's not
- 5:01Speaker 6: not very common, that's for sure.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Why do you think so we see the non contact
- 5:06Speaker 4: all the time, and usually the movement that an athlete
- 5:09Speaker 4: makes when they hurt their knee is really innocent. Why
- 5:13Speaker 4: it doesn't look like anything?
- 5:15Speaker 2: Why?
- 5:15Speaker 4: Why, like your opinion, it gets a cut that a
- 5:19Speaker 4: running back or receiver a dB makes tens and thousands
- 5:23Speaker 4: of times in practice games.
- 5:25Speaker 2: They've done it for their entire life, and they just
- 5:27Speaker 2: keep doing it. Why is it that one time?
- 5:30Speaker 4: Like every I'm assuming it's got to be a perfect
- 5:32Speaker 4: storm of so many different things coming together at the
- 5:35Speaker 4: same time in a bad way, of course, why is
- 5:38Speaker 4: it that one time? And you're opaying like, what has
- 5:40Speaker 4: to happen? Is the ligament like flip over? Does it?
- 5:43Speaker 4: Like what is going on inside the body to make
- 5:45Speaker 4: it happen? Well, I think you kind of hit the
- 5:47Speaker 4: nail on the head. That is a perfect storm, and
- 5:48Speaker 4: so I think to look for any one specific might
- 5:50Speaker 4: be kind of hard. There's there's obviously going to be
- 5:52Speaker 4: certain scenarios, you know, maybe you're playing on a surface
- 5:54Speaker 4: that isn't as good, maybe the cleats or something are
- 5:57Speaker 4: going to be different. You can always look for certain
- 5:59Speaker 4: things that might point to that, maybe in the scenario
- 6:01Speaker 4: where the athletes really fatigued, maybe situations where maybe their
- 6:04Speaker 4: response times a little bit different.
- 6:05Speaker 2: You know.
- 6:06Speaker 6: There's actually a really an interesting sellon years ago where
- 6:08Speaker 6: they looked at guys that came back too soon after
- 6:10Speaker 6: concussions and their appropriate reception and spatial awareness was diminished,
- 6:14Speaker 6: so lower extremity injuries were actually higher. So there's a
- 6:17Speaker 6: lot of variables, but I think more often than not,
- 6:19Speaker 6: it's just bad luck, you know, And that's never things
- 6:22Speaker 6: that from a medical explanation. People want to hear that
- 6:24Speaker 6: just because explanation, But I think at the end of
- 6:26Speaker 6: the day, you know, bad things are going to happen.
- 6:28Speaker 6: You know, we've seen the injury, we've seen you know,
- 6:30Speaker 6: you know, you think about the Mason Smith had just
- 6:32Speaker 6: a you saw it. He jumped after you know, and
- 6:34Speaker 6: the game gets Florida State in the dome and he
- 6:37Speaker 6: jumps in his lands a little funny and you could see it.
- 6:38Speaker 6: And I remember watching that replay on the screen as
- 6:40Speaker 6: I'm running out there and you can see that knee
- 6:41Speaker 6: buckle and just my heart just plummeted in that moment.
- 6:44Speaker 5: And it's just a fluky thing.
- 6:45Speaker 2: They happened. I feel like.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Achilles tears ruptures, like are the ones that happened like
- 6:50Speaker 3: that more than any It was like recently apparently for
- 6:53Speaker 3: the Cardinals, it was like kind of just like backing up,
- 6:57Speaker 3: like getting out of the way of something, and then
- 6:59Speaker 3: he just steps and you can just see it.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Just Yeah, that's just like that.
- 7:02Speaker 6: That's a lot of them you know, with the Achilles,
- 7:04Speaker 6: you'll have the ones. You know, we've seen the Aaron
- 7:06Speaker 6: Rodgers one from a couple of years ago. Uh, and
- 7:08Speaker 6: that one made sense. You watched the play he's on
- 7:10Speaker 6: the turf, his foot kind of got one, and that
- 7:13Speaker 6: one made sense. But but you're right, most of them
- 7:15Speaker 6: are these kind of weird you know. You know, I
- 7:17Speaker 6: think about that one. I remember the one with Kevin
- 7:19Speaker 6: Durant just kind of running down the field. And you know,
- 7:21Speaker 6: anytime I have somebody come in and they said, I
- 7:23Speaker 6: thought somebody kicked me or shot me in the back
- 7:24Speaker 6: of the leg, that's always like dang.
- 7:25Speaker 5: It's especially if they kind of.
- 7:27Speaker 6: Right behind the ankle, because you know, more oft than
- 7:29Speaker 6: not what you'll see if you watch the guy will
- 7:31Speaker 6: look behind him because they think somebody literally kicked him.
- 7:33Speaker 6: That's the description I get, And that was what Durant said,
- 7:35Speaker 6: as I thought somebody kicked me, But then you turn around,
- 7:37Speaker 6: nobody's there. Yeah, and that's you know, but yeah, they're
- 7:39Speaker 6: they're kind of flukey too. Again, that just because.
- 7:42Speaker 4: We've kind of talked about Achilles too, like we are
- 7:46Speaker 4: when back when we were playing, but forever in sports,
- 7:49Speaker 4: like watching sports and Achilles ten it was a rare injury. Yeah,
- 7:53Speaker 4: Like it didn't happen very often, and when you did,
- 7:55Speaker 4: you're like, oh my god, wow. But like it's pretty
- 7:58Speaker 4: standard procedure. Why is it have you seen Is it
- 8:01Speaker 4: just our kind of like vision of it because it's
- 8:03Speaker 4: more hyper aware of it now because it's more of
- 8:05Speaker 4: the public media or whatever. But have you seen more
- 8:08Speaker 4: Achilles injuries in the last couple of years than previous?
- 8:11Speaker 6: I definitely feel like I have. You know, I don't
- 8:14Speaker 6: know for sure if that's accurate. You know, sometimes we
- 8:16Speaker 6: got kind of get caught up in the moment, but
- 8:18Speaker 6: it definitely feels like it.
- 8:19Speaker 5: You know.
- 8:20Speaker 6: And in addition to my work with football, I work
- 8:22Speaker 6: with gymnastics.
- 8:23Speaker 5: We see a lot of them gymnastics. Yeah, so so
- 8:25Speaker 5: I feel like I see a lot of them.
- 8:27Speaker 2: You know.
- 8:27Speaker 6: It's interesting, you know that there's a lot of theories
- 8:29Speaker 6: for why we've talked about surfaces and things like that
- 8:31Speaker 6: with football. You know, I sometimes wonder if exposures, you know,
- 8:34Speaker 6: that the sports becoming more year round and we're starting
- 8:38Speaker 6: to see that transcend or there's more exposure.
- 8:40Speaker 5: There's a lot of possible reasons, you know, and.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Covid chat absolutely answer that what people are asking. You know, Doc,
- 8:51Speaker 2: we're sorry about out there. Hey, we're sorry about him.
- 8:55Speaker 5: Unaware of any direct correlation, but so there needs.
- 8:59Speaker 2: To be some stuff he's done on then Achilles Chat.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Speaking of Bruce Braid's Jackson Dart, he's somebody that's already
- 9:08Speaker 3: had a couple of concussions early in his career. I
- 9:11Speaker 3: love his style of play. I love the way that
- 9:13Speaker 3: he goes about his business. But I don't know how
- 9:15Speaker 3: long you can do that at the quarterback position. I
- 9:17Speaker 3: get that, like when you're looking for that, like when
- 9:20Speaker 3: you have somebody that's kind of going through obviously concussion protocol,
- 9:24Speaker 3: but it's not his first time. You know, the position
- 9:26Speaker 3: he plays, Like what like, maybe what process do you
- 9:29Speaker 3: go through if a guy's had multiple concussions. Knowing he
- 9:31Speaker 3: plays a position that's going to be pretty physical.
- 9:34Speaker 6: It makes it more difficult for sure. You know the
- 9:37Speaker 6: things that I look at with concussion. You know, obviously
- 9:39Speaker 6: one of the questions we always ask how many is
- 9:41Speaker 6: too many concussions?
- 9:41Speaker 5: Is their number and really there's not.
- 9:43Speaker 6: Obviously the bigger that number gets, the more we're concerned
- 9:46Speaker 6: we become. But the things I worry about is the
- 9:50Speaker 6: proximity if you have a lot of concussions in a
- 9:52Speaker 6: short time frame, the ease with which you got them.
- 9:54Speaker 6: So if somebody you watch the play, you're like, man,
- 9:56Speaker 6: that was not a big hit, that should not have
- 9:58Speaker 6: caused a concussion. At least wouldn't have thought that. The
- 10:00Speaker 6: house of your the symptoms, how long the symptoms, because
- 10:03Speaker 6: sometimes you just bad luck happens. You might have that
- 10:05Speaker 6: guy gets two in a year but may never get another,
- 10:07Speaker 6: you know, documented concussion in his career. Yeah, but you
- 10:10Speaker 6: do have to take any consideration. This guy has had
- 10:12Speaker 6: a couple in a short timeframe. He plays a higher
- 10:14Speaker 6: risk position, his style of play. Yeah, you know, I'm
- 10:16Speaker 6: with you. I love I love seeing your quarterbacks and
- 10:18Speaker 6: they get the grit and they're going after it, or
- 10:20Speaker 6: really anybody you love.
- 10:21Speaker 5: You love seeing that in an athlete.
- 10:22Speaker 6: But then there's the other side of it, that's the
- 10:24Speaker 6: safety of medical And I think you at least got
- 10:26Speaker 6: to talk to that guy and say, look, man, we
- 10:27Speaker 6: need to slide.
- 10:28Speaker 5: You know you have that conversis, so.
- 10:30Speaker 3: You better make sure you have the first down before
- 10:31Speaker 3: you slide, because God forbid, your hips start to go
- 10:35Speaker 3: towards the ground and then they don't use common sense
- 10:37Speaker 3: and say it's not a first down.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, all right.
- 10:40Speaker 4: And Doc was very sure to say diagnosed concussion there too,
- 10:42Speaker 4: because I'm sure people are playing as close as we
- 10:45Speaker 4: as people keep an eye on him. There are people
- 10:48Speaker 4: that play pay through that play through some headaches out there, certainly,
- 10:51Speaker 4: so I'm sure there are some undiagnosed. We had the
- 10:53Speaker 4: same conversation a couple of years ago with two and
- 10:55Speaker 4: they're like, if he gets one more, we're talking about
- 10:57Speaker 4: some serious brain damage and all this stuff, and it's
- 11:00Speaker 4: you just have to be hyper aware of it. And
- 11:03Speaker 4: so I wanted to ask, like, are because people on
- 11:08Speaker 4: our show they call us CTO t B sometimes, are
- 11:11Speaker 4: people genetically more like dispis, like genetically more likely to
- 11:20Speaker 4: get long term effects from a concussion or multiple concussions
- 11:24Speaker 4: than other people?
- 11:24Speaker 2: Because I know people.
- 11:25Speaker 4: I mean, you're looking at one across the table that
- 11:27Speaker 4: had multiple I had friends that played linebacker for a
- 11:30Speaker 4: long time that had multiple, multiple, multiple concussions. But the
- 11:34Speaker 4: brain works as clear, like as good as it did. Well,
- 11:38Speaker 4: not you friends, but then you see some that have
- 11:42Speaker 4: had a couple and you see the brain damage. You
- 11:43Speaker 4: see the long term after effects with the CTE and
- 11:47Speaker 4: all these things like are pre like, are they just
- 11:49Speaker 4: more likely? Is it a genetic thing? Is it a
- 11:53Speaker 4: type of concussion? Are there different types of concussions?
- 11:56Speaker 6: Well, I think it's a discussion that you know, look,
- 11:59Speaker 6: we could open up a whole show talking about this
- 12:02Speaker 6: specific topic. There's a lot of information out there, and
- 12:05Speaker 6: then there's a lot of there's also a lack of
- 12:07Speaker 6: information to be fair, and you know, the way I
- 12:09Speaker 6: look at really any medical condition and concussions are definitely
- 12:12Speaker 6: not unique to this is you know, the way I
- 12:14Speaker 6: describe it a patient of my clinic, I'm like, look,
- 12:16Speaker 6: you get you get this scenario where you get a
- 12:18Speaker 6: bowl and you throw all your genetic predispositions all into
- 12:20Speaker 6: this bowl and then all of your life experiences and
- 12:22Speaker 6: that's what comes out and the medical presentation we see
- 12:26Speaker 6: and what I mean by that is absolutely there there's
- 12:28Speaker 6: got to be some kind of genetic pre existing conditions
- 12:31Speaker 6: that probably make some people more susceptible to receiving concussions
- 12:34Speaker 6: and then having more severe outcomes from said concussions. But
- 12:38Speaker 6: I don't know that we've specifically identified those yet. And
- 12:40Speaker 6: sometimes it might be a mixture of so many different
- 12:42Speaker 6: things that it's not that simple. And then of course
- 12:44Speaker 6: the severity of the concussion, how how bad was it,
- 12:48Speaker 6: how many of you had that we talked about a
- 12:49Speaker 6: moment ago, And there's a lot of things that go
- 12:51Speaker 6: into it, because there's a lot of people that have
- 12:53Speaker 6: had a lot of concussions that don't develop CTE. If
- 12:56Speaker 6: you go back and you look at some of the
- 12:57Speaker 6: studies where they looked at some of these NFL players,
- 13:00Speaker 6: they've gone back and look, part of the problem is
- 13:02Speaker 6: the only way that we've to this point been able
- 13:04Speaker 6: to truly diagnose is with the biopsy, which means after
- 13:06Speaker 6: you've died, so at autopsy. And they've done biopsies on
- 13:09Speaker 6: brains of guys that played in the NFL or played
- 13:12Speaker 6: college ball, and they said, oh, they had CTE. But
- 13:15Speaker 6: then you go look at this individual's life and they
- 13:16Speaker 6: lived a very normal life. They didn't have any symptoms,
- 13:19Speaker 6: or maybe they had very mild dimension symptoms when they're
- 13:21Speaker 6: in their nineties or something, which we probably all get.
- 13:24Speaker 5: Let's just be honest, you know.
- 13:25Speaker 6: I think with Frank Gift Gifford, that was one I
- 13:27Speaker 6: remember they did his post mortem they said, oh, yeah, CTE.
- 13:30Speaker 6: This is a guy who was in the public limelight.
- 13:32Speaker 6: He was on television his whole life. He died from
- 13:34Speaker 6: colon cancer. So did you have CT just because he
- 13:38Speaker 6: had an abnormal brain biopsy? That a guy that seemed
- 13:40Speaker 6: pretty normal. Yeah, yeah, his famine. I said, he forgot
- 13:42Speaker 6: where his keys were every now and then. But you know,
- 13:44Speaker 6: and I don't mean to be insensitive when I say that,
- 13:46Speaker 6: but the reality of it is, we don't know. So
- 13:49Speaker 6: I think sometimes the CT narrator's probably gone a little
- 13:51Speaker 6: too far my personal opinion, but it's it's also a true,
- 13:54Speaker 6: real thing.
- 13:55Speaker 5: So how do we navigate that?
- 13:56Speaker 6: And look, we're still figuring it out, and what I'm
- 13:59Speaker 6: saying now may be wrong tomorrow, but that's kind of
- 14:01Speaker 6: where we're at the moment.
- 14:04Speaker 5: So sort of an answer, but.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Not exactly now. It is, I mean, it absolutely just
- 14:06Speaker 4: I mean, it's just like anything in life. Everything is
- 14:09Speaker 4: some people are more likely to get this, get that,
- 14:11Speaker 4: whatever it is. It just you kind of get pigeon
- 14:13Speaker 4: holed into all right, well, you hit you banged your
- 14:15Speaker 4: head against the wall for fifteen years in a career,
- 14:18Speaker 4: you're definitely going to have some sort of long term
- 14:21Speaker 4: and I just feel like some people you looked at
- 14:23Speaker 4: was a junior stay out that was like, yeah, I
- 14:25Speaker 4: wanted to study, study his brain, Like, yes, that was
- 14:27Speaker 4: the thing.
- 14:28Speaker 2: And it's some people were more affected by it.
- 14:30Speaker 6: And you know, he was with del with mental health
- 14:31Speaker 6: and unfortunately a suicide. And how much of that was CTE?
- 14:34Speaker 6: How much of that might have been some pre existing
- 14:37Speaker 6: you know, depression, how much of that is you know,
- 14:38Speaker 6: if you're you're a professional athlete and you remove that
- 14:40Speaker 6: individual from the their career, you know, all of a
- 14:43Speaker 6: sudden you have to be a normal human and that
- 14:44Speaker 6: that can't be easy for any of us to deal with.
- 14:46Speaker 6: I think we've probably all dealt with no matter how
- 14:47Speaker 6: long you played sports, even just through high school. I
- 14:49Speaker 6: know friends that their first year not playing high school ball,
- 14:51Speaker 6: it's like, oh gosh, this is rough. I've been a
- 14:53Speaker 6: football player my whole life, even if you're only nineteen,
- 14:56Speaker 6: that's still your whole life.
- 14:56Speaker 5: That's what you know.
- 14:57Speaker 6: So so it's it's it's there's a lot of very
- 15:00Speaker 6: is that sometimes get overlooked, and I think it's very
- 15:02Speaker 6: easy to say, well, it's because this person had concussions,
- 15:05Speaker 6: but mental health exists and people who never played football
- 15:07Speaker 6: mental health problems and dementia and all these things. So
- 15:10Speaker 6: I think we need to be a little careful to
- 15:12Speaker 6: make that you know, correlation, you know.
- 15:15Speaker 4: And that's why I like when things like this with
- 15:17Speaker 4: Jackson Dart happened, and it happened with two like you
- 15:19Speaker 4: get you see two concussions and what four weeks, five
- 15:23Speaker 4: weeks something like that, It's like, man, just John, it's
- 15:26Speaker 4: just put like, let's be careful with it right now.
- 15:28Speaker 4: Let's teach this guy to play the position a little
- 15:31Speaker 4: bit safer. Just still lose it because of just I mean,
- 15:34Speaker 4: there's like examples because is it going to be example
- 15:36Speaker 4: of CT down down the road? Is it you know,
- 15:39Speaker 4: more like disposed to some mental health things. I don't know,
- 15:44Speaker 4: but you just got to be careful with the Absolutely.
- 15:46Speaker 3: All right, thanks Doc. We appreciate your time as always.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Thanks for helping with my back too.
- 15:51Speaker 3: Absolutely well, he can't help with your brain. That's he
- 15:55Speaker 3: heard the first forty five minutes of the show today.
- 15:59Speaker 2: You know we're here though, we made it. We're alive, Doc.
- 16:04Speaker 2: We appreciate it.
- 16:05Speaker 3: No problem, all right, we'll take a break more OTV
- 16:08Speaker 3: when we come back here live from the Raisin Kane
- 16:09Speaker 3: studio off the bench. All right, now is a great time,
- 16:15Speaker 3: as it always is, to go forward dose. You've got
- 16:18Speaker 3: a tailgating weekend coming up here in Tiger Stadium. So
- 16:21Speaker 3: when you're packing everything up ready to go, your tents,
- 16:24Speaker 3: your generators, your TVs, make sure you grab your dose sech.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Ease so you know it's a nerdy kick. Yeah, sure
- 16:32Speaker 2: we'll stand that. Ear and breakfast yeah why not?
- 16:37Speaker 3: You know it can be you know, whatever food you
- 16:40Speaker 3: want to go with the beer, but as long as
- 16:42Speaker 3: you have it cereal, sure that's what you want to do.
- 16:46Speaker 3: But just make sure you're ready to go. Whenever the
- 16:48Speaker 3: Tigers kick off. Don't allow that clock to fool you.
- 16:51Speaker 3: It's always a great time to go for do.
- 16:53Speaker 4: Yeah, it's an early kick, but you still got to
- 16:54Speaker 4: get your mind right. You still got to get ready.
- 16:56Speaker 4: You still got to beat loud. So when you're getting
- 16:59Speaker 4: ready for tailgating, you know, maybe go buy you a
- 17:00Speaker 4: little six pack, maybe twelve pack, and then ask everybody
- 17:03Speaker 4: around that rounds you what they're drinking today, because you're
- 17:05Speaker 4: gonna be drinking.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Do sekis.
- 17:07Speaker 4: If you see Jake and I walking around camust be
- 17:09Speaker 4: sure to hold it up. Say cheers, go for dose,
- 17:11Speaker 4: trink responssibly.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Thanks selection.
- 17:32Speaker 7: Speaking so long, Amida as you call. I know this
- 17:39Speaker 7: sh I've had your wing. I've been so busy, but
- 17:45Speaker 7: I've been thinking about what want of doing you.
- 17:50Speaker 2: I know them money guys.
- 17:52Speaker 7: If they've been talking about the way I do.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I do from the locker room to the airwaves, it's
- 18:00Speaker 1: off the bench with Jacob Ester and Matt Flynn.
- 18:04Speaker 7: I want to get you.
- 18:06Speaker 2: I can see you on me.
- 18:08Speaker 8: Too, and make them.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Hello, what's up much? Hey, welcome back to the show.
- 18:31Speaker 2: But just a heads up. He did no floaters again, so.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Yeah, it's on me and I didn't get none, none,
- 18:38Speaker 3: not a single one.
- 18:40Speaker 2: So yeah, that's my bad. Guys.
- 18:43Speaker 4: I'm still getting used to hosting the show when I
- 18:46Speaker 4: have to.
- 18:49Speaker 2: You did great.
- 18:50Speaker 4: I'm more of like a color commentator kind of guy.
- 18:52Speaker 4: So there's some like techniques and things that you gotta
- 18:55Speaker 4: do when you're kind of hosting it. That's you know
- 18:59Speaker 4: that I'm just not used to. It's okay, we did it,
- 19:01Speaker 4: we made it.
- 19:01Speaker 2: I thought you did great.
- 19:02Speaker 4: I thought we did better yesterday than today. Like I said,
- 19:05Speaker 4: right now, grade yourself Okay, it's good. Grade myself yesterday
- 19:08Speaker 4: I would give myself.
- 19:10Speaker 9: I agree, I would give you like a seven and
- 19:12Speaker 9: a half yesterday.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Okay, you know I'll take that right out of the gate.
- 19:16Speaker 3: You're probably pretty excited, you know, you're like, oh, Jake's
- 19:19Speaker 3: not in.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I got this then it saw me, me, me, me,
- 19:22Speaker 2: And that's a little bit o crap it me me right.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Oh boy, I don't know about this. I appreciate it.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Like we're gonna talk about the Brian Kelly thing again,
- 19:33Speaker 2: I appreciate you all holding it down. Yeah. The yeah,
- 19:36Speaker 2: the old sickness going through the.
- 19:37Speaker 3: House, I got you, brother, that's yeah, it's going around,
- 19:41Speaker 3: like I know, and we usually avoid it, like we're
- 19:43Speaker 3: usually really like really good. Maybe maybe one of the
- 19:46Speaker 3: seven of us gets it this time, my friend, right, not.
- 19:50Speaker 2: This time when it goes to the Flint household. Yeah,
- 19:53Speaker 2: if one person had something ever like and it usually
- 19:55Speaker 2: takes about four weeks to get through everybody. I like
- 19:58Speaker 2: it it happens.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like, you know, you know, it's like we
- 20:01Speaker 3: don't have we don't have family in like anywhere in
- 20:04Speaker 3: the area, right, So like for us.
- 20:06Speaker 2: It's like, well, these kids got to get to school.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Probably need to find something. How's that going? Somebody some
- 20:13Speaker 2: sort of help, right, got somebody?
- 20:15Speaker 4: I mean it's a city full of people, you know,
- 20:18Speaker 4: but I know you don't have family either though I don't.
- 20:22Speaker 2: But we got people.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, people, Yeah, people I got I got a
- 20:26Speaker 3: guy that has a guy has a Nick Sabeman's coming.
- 20:31Speaker 9: But the coach, hairstylists and barbers know, they do, know,
- 20:36Speaker 9: they do consation. I mean, you're sitting in the chair me,
- 20:41Speaker 9: I'm sitting there for like six hours. We're going to
- 20:43Speaker 9: have a conversation. I'm getting my hair done.
- 20:45Speaker 2: You do have lots of hair, a lot of hair.
- 20:47Speaker 9: I'm getting it done tomorrow. I'm really excited because you're
- 20:49Speaker 9: when you leave it Sunday, I'll be back Friday.
- 20:55Speaker 2: That's right, some week long deal. Yeah, we just take
- 20:58Speaker 2: Friday off. What you doing? I just come back, just
- 21:01Speaker 2: hang out with Taylor. That that's bad, but also having
- 21:05Speaker 2: to come to work.
- 21:05Speaker 9: Forday ah, we'll just do it on remote.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Hey, guys, it's fine. Ill will add to the timeline.
- 21:16Speaker 8: That's actually that's actually true, the way this is going,
- 21:21Speaker 8: they'll add to it.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it'd be nice to release it though, and then
- 21:24Speaker 2: just add to it as we go. Needs.
- 21:26Speaker 8: She needs to make some them and then have like
- 21:27Speaker 8: blank slides at the end of there's more coming.
- 21:31Speaker 3: No, you're doing the work. You gotta you gotta present that. Yeah.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Were you listening to the show first hour? Though?
- 21:36Speaker 1: No?
- 21:36Speaker 2: I told I broke the new we broke news again?
- 21:39Speaker 2: You did? Yeah? Oh no, what was this? I have
- 21:42Speaker 2: a have a buddy, let's get his haircut. Hair stylace
- 21:46Speaker 2: said Nick.
- 21:47Speaker 9: Saban is gonna be the coach, So I'm saying hair solace.
- 21:52Speaker 1: No.
- 21:54Speaker 2: This might have been before the odds went to two
- 21:56Speaker 2: to one too. I don't know. People are talking though,
- 22:02Speaker 2: people that cut hair.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Again, like this is one of those ones that and
- 22:08Speaker 3: I hope y'all know this about this show by now.
- 22:11Speaker 2: We do like we do not.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Care to admit if we were wrong, if we're wrong,
- 22:17Speaker 3: like we're gonna be like, oh my god, we screwed
- 22:19Speaker 3: that up.
- 22:20Speaker 2: That's us are bad end up.
- 22:23Speaker 3: I don't think it's even a remote possibility, but I
- 22:27Speaker 3: would love to be like, oh my gosh, I was wrong.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I would love it.
- 22:31Speaker 3: I mean, like I'm biased, obviously, it's the man that
- 22:35Speaker 3: gave me every opportunity in life.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Because he brought me here. So that's what we were
- 22:40Speaker 2: talking about.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Like what you know, Taylor asked me the question before
- 22:43Speaker 4: he entered his agism thoughts about like what I would feel,
- 22:47Speaker 4: and it was I don't. I would be excited because
- 22:52Speaker 4: it'd be a it'd be a switch, it'ld be like
- 22:54Speaker 4: a certainly an energy boost. You like, there's you can't
- 22:58Speaker 4: it's the trump card, right, Like, there's nothing you could
- 23:00Speaker 4: say about it besides does he really want to? But
- 23:02Speaker 4: that was my thing, like why would he want to?
- 23:03Speaker 4: Why would he want to? And I think that's everybody's opinion,
- 23:06Speaker 4: but hell, if he really wants to, let's ride. If
- 23:11Speaker 4: he wants to, I'll go pick him up. Yeah, that's
- 23:13Speaker 4: a little tricky situation. Your name's on another team in
- 23:17Speaker 4: the SEC's field. Yeah, but that is This is one
- 23:21Speaker 4: of the things that he always said was one of
- 23:22Speaker 4: his biggest regrets was leaving LSHU. Now that's a loaded statement,
- 23:25Speaker 4: of course, because it was the NFL switch and all
- 23:28Speaker 4: that stuff. But look, if I don't know, but at
- 23:35Speaker 4: Lante brought up the point too, it's like you left
- 23:38Speaker 4: college football because of the state of college football. Really, yeah,
- 23:41Speaker 4: it's not any different maybe there's a little bit more
- 23:43Speaker 4: guardrails on it now, and there's going to be more
- 23:46Speaker 4: guardrails each.
- 23:47Speaker 2: And every year.
- 23:48Speaker 4: But it was like with the s show, that's happening
- 23:52Speaker 4: with the LSU situation from the top down in Louisiana. Yeah, Governor, President,
- 23:59Speaker 4: Border supervisors, all that stuff. I said, any head coach
- 24:02Speaker 4: that comes in is going to be at the bottom
- 24:03Speaker 4: of that pecking order unless it's Nick Saban. And I
- 24:06Speaker 4: think everybody in Louisiana would say yes, sir to Nick Saban.
- 24:11Speaker 3: And that means everybody, oh even yes, like even if
- 24:16Speaker 3: like we had questions about okay, like I don't know
- 24:18Speaker 3: what Taylor said, but you know he was hating on
- 24:21Speaker 3: his age, which rude.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Anybody's age, but wow, Taylor, but like yeah, I mean
- 24:27Speaker 2: we've been talking about Nick Saban coming back to LSU
- 24:30Speaker 2: since he left. It was twenty years ago. R right,
- 24:34Speaker 2: Oh my god, it was twenty years yeah yeah, I
- 24:37Speaker 2: mean shut up.
- 24:40Speaker 3: So yeah, even though he's seventy four, Like, no, he
- 24:43Speaker 3: cares about that.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean think I think the governor would even
- 24:45Speaker 2: say yes sir, right.
- 24:47Speaker 4: Yeah, well say like that would be the only one
- 24:51Speaker 4: yeah initially or would save it and eventually make him right.
- 24:56Speaker 9: Right, because it's like such Napoleon what do they call it?
- 24:59Speaker 9: Napoleon's and yeah, yeah, I just don't think.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Yeah, when Saban walks in a room, it's like a
- 25:05Speaker 2: few energy. Yeah.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Oh, I have never seen somebody of of of his
- 25:11Speaker 3: size and statue like walk into a room and immediately
- 25:15Speaker 3: everybody sits up in their chair.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt. It doesn't matter who you are. He
- 25:21Speaker 2: would walk into that.
- 25:22Speaker 3: He would walk into that loting room and the biggest
- 25:26Speaker 3: Marcus spears straight up in his chair.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Yeah, he didn't matter who it was.
- 25:31Speaker 4: He can walk into that board of supervisors and everybody,
- 25:34Speaker 4: including the person at the.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Top, would sit up in their chairs. Yep.
- 25:37Speaker 4: No, is that the same way because the Taylor's takes
- 25:41Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 25:42Speaker 3: At question, did Taylor have him one foot in the
- 25:46Speaker 3: nursing home?
- 25:47Speaker 2: He did, so, Jake.
- 25:50Speaker 8: What I was asking was like, okay, like it's Saban's age,
- 25:53Speaker 8: how long is he going to want to do this?
- 25:55Speaker 8: So I was like, my question would be, like a
- 25:57Speaker 8: lot of people have brought up Kelvin Shepherd, like some
- 26:00Speaker 8: people have said he hadn't had to coaching experience.
- 26:01Speaker 2: That's a concern of mine. So my question was, like,
- 26:04Speaker 2: if say it only wants.
- 26:04Speaker 8: To be here two or three years, would he bring
- 26:06Speaker 8: a younger guy with him that LSU loves like learn
- 26:09Speaker 8: under him for a few years and then that guy
- 26:10Speaker 8: take over.
- 26:11Speaker 4: Maybe, But then at that point you're kind of hiring
- 26:14Speaker 4: two head coaches at once. Let's just stick, all right,
- 26:17Speaker 4: you'd have to know for sure. Well, that's what I'm saying,
- 26:20Speaker 4: savings some time to like pick I don't know, seventy
- 26:25Speaker 4: five to one to two to one overnight.
- 26:30Speaker 2: From the list of people that I have heard, at
- 26:33Speaker 2: least it is exciting.
- 26:37Speaker 3: I mean, coach Saban's probably one of those names where
- 26:41Speaker 3: maybe you don't think it's gonna happen, but you're gonna
- 26:43Speaker 3: you're gonna do your due diligence, like you're gonna kick
- 26:45Speaker 3: the tires on it.
- 26:46Speaker 2: But I'm saying he wouldn't be intimidated about what's happening.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Is that let me ask you all, this, is that
- 26:54Speaker 3: the only person that y'all could hire and talking about
- 26:58Speaker 3: the board like and kind of make some of all
- 27:02Speaker 3: the drama that's led us to this point go away.
- 27:06Speaker 8: Yeah, it's it's the only hire. Nobody can poke holes in. Yeah,
- 27:10Speaker 8: it's ultimate trump.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Yeah, everybody can forget about how we got here. Yeah,
- 27:14Speaker 2: and nobody, nobody could put a timeline that a Launders
- 27:16Speaker 2: having to put together.
- 27:17Speaker 9: It would be water under the bridge.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Yeah, the timeline would dissolve, it would just disappear, like
- 27:23Speaker 2: that's silly old thing. That's silly old thing. It was
- 27:26Speaker 2: ages ago. That wasn't even real.
- 27:28Speaker 9: You never said family.
- 27:30Speaker 2: We heard and Kelly multiple years we could get saving back.
- 27:33Speaker 2: It was all part of the plant or the plan.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Mhmm yeah, mhm mule Odds makers. We appreciate the content.
- 27:45Speaker 9: It feels like Vegas just taking advantage of LSU fans
- 27:48Speaker 9: that are hoping for the best.
- 27:49Speaker 2: That's what I think it is. That's a good take
- 27:52Speaker 2: right there. I like that.
- 27:55Speaker 3: I think there's there is some limits on how much
- 27:57Speaker 3: you can place on future headco ching Odds.
- 28:00Speaker 9: Really yeah, did you see they put yeah, we put
- 28:04Speaker 9: that that limit on there, and people were like they
- 28:07Speaker 9: put caps on beds before they did a salary cap.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Was it two hundred?
- 28:14Speaker 4: Because those those two cats are what for the guardians
- 28:19Speaker 4: or facing years and sixty five years in prison.
- 28:23Speaker 9: It's a long time, but you're making millions of dollars
- 28:26Speaker 9: and you risked it for like what fourteen grand?
- 28:29Speaker 2: Yeah sixty five show.
- 28:32Speaker 8: Has pissed about the two hundred dollar cap. Yeah, I'm
- 28:36Speaker 8: never going to be over that. M m fact that
- 28:39Speaker 8: they were like show how we don't care.
- 28:42Speaker 4: But if you were baseball, I would wipe that so
- 28:45Speaker 4: far they did on the rug.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Are you kidding? Yeah, that's the cash cow. Getting back to.
- 28:55Speaker 3: The whoever the coach is going to be, I hope
- 29:02Speaker 3: they take a hard look at the defensive staff before
- 29:06Speaker 3: they they make it.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Let's not make any snap decisions on that. Now.
- 29:09Speaker 3: On the other side of the ball, do what you want,
- 29:12Speaker 3: but whatever you want, whatever you want there. But like
- 29:15Speaker 3: the defensive staff, like I'm sitting there calling the game
- 29:17Speaker 3: on Saturday, and I'm like, man, God, they are trying
- 29:20Speaker 3: everything they possibly do now right, They're pushing so many
- 29:24Speaker 3: right buttons and outside of the like the play before
- 29:27Speaker 3: half where you're a man coverage and you just get beat.
- 29:29Speaker 3: You shouldn't have even been in that situation because the
- 29:32Speaker 3: often should have helped you out and rent the clock
- 29:33Speaker 3: out or at least ran it down. So I hope
- 29:36Speaker 3: they take it like whoever comes in, well, they'd be foolish,
- 29:39Speaker 3: not too right, I know, because like that defensive staff
- 29:42Speaker 3: wants to be here, Like Corey Raymond played here, Kyle
- 29:46Speaker 3: played here, Blake played down the road.
- 29:48Speaker 2: But Blake's you know, got strong ties to l s U.
- 29:51Speaker 3: Jake Golsen's been here multiple times. Kevin Peeple's done have
- 29:55Speaker 3: to ties it all the other people have, but he's
- 29:58Speaker 3: done a good job here.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a defensive staff.
- 30:02Speaker 4: Att It's a defensive staff that like if they were
- 30:06Speaker 4: to get let go, they could all go as a
- 30:08Speaker 4: group together and go get any defensive coaching job in
- 30:12Speaker 4: the country, right anything, So like you would be foolish
- 30:17Speaker 4: for a head coach not to at least I'm not
- 30:21Speaker 4: I'm not gonna say kick the tires because I think
- 30:23Speaker 4: that's disrespectful, but then at least not give them a good, good,
- 30:26Speaker 4: good hard look, Like what are you going to bring
- 30:28Speaker 4: to the table, Like maybe you're loyal. Maybe a head
- 30:31Speaker 4: coach comes in and he's loyal to a coordinator or
- 30:34Speaker 4: a linebacker's coach something that's been with him forever and
- 30:36Speaker 4: they came up the ranks together.
- 30:37Speaker 2: That's fine.
- 30:38Speaker 4: I get that, But like keep as much in place
- 30:40Speaker 4: as possible because like you said, most of the guys
- 30:43Speaker 4: on this defensive staff are LSU people. Now they're coaches,
- 30:46Speaker 4: so they'll coach anywhere. Yeah, but they're LSU people. They
- 30:49Speaker 4: want to be here and they are good.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you.
- 30:53Speaker 3: You know, it's what we're talking about Eli drinkers the
- 30:56Speaker 3: other day off air, Like if his name comes up,
- 31:00Speaker 3: I know what I think about drink.
- 31:02Speaker 2: I'm more to drink. He knows.
- 31:04Speaker 3: He knows all the defense staff because that's where they
- 31:06Speaker 3: came from. That's where Jake, Uh, Blake, Kevin, they all
- 31:11Speaker 3: came from Missoo to l s U.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Right, So he's staff changes at all.
- 31:17Speaker 4: It should it shouldn't. It shouldn't change with anybody, Like,
- 31:21Speaker 4: who're you gonna get to replace Corey Raymond? Yeah, the
- 31:24Speaker 4: bright spot of this entire team.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Somebody made that mistake before he goes he's.
- 31:33Speaker 8: Yeah, did replace Cory Raymond?
- 31:35Speaker 2: I forgot?
- 31:37Speaker 3: Well, Uh, Carrie way Is Cooks, Kerry Cooks, Harry Cooks,
- 31:43Speaker 3: he's a Rice now.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:45Speaker 4: By the guy that has been the architect of dB
- 31:48Speaker 4: U for a long time, brought in people, loyal people,
- 31:53Speaker 4: l s U guys through and through, and the bright
- 31:57Speaker 4: spot of our team this year has been the defensive backs,
- 32:01Speaker 4: the effort they're playing with, the technique they're playing with,
- 32:03Speaker 4: making plays all over the field, Like if they if
- 32:05Speaker 4: our defensive backfield wasn't as good as it has been
- 32:09Speaker 4: this year with some of the like there's been some
- 32:12Speaker 4: effort moments. We pointed some effort moments out in some
- 32:15Speaker 4: of the film review. Now that that was gone, maybe
- 32:17Speaker 4: that was a game or two we only seen it,
- 32:18Speaker 4: but that defensive backfield's played fantastic. I thought the defensive
- 32:22Speaker 4: lines played really good for the pieces that they have.
- 32:24Speaker 2: They don't have like any.
- 32:28Speaker 3: No, because they were Bo Diddley was recruiting a different
- 32:33Speaker 3: defensive tackle that didn't fit the needs of this scheme, right,
- 32:37Speaker 3: so you're kind of putting it together with dug tape
- 32:40Speaker 3: and super glue of Yeah, Jacobin.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Gillery's gotten a lot better.
- 32:43Speaker 3: And that's an older veteran player that you kind of thought,
- 32:45Speaker 3: Okay at this point he is the player that he is.
- 32:48Speaker 3: But Kyle's done a really nice job with him.
- 32:50Speaker 4: Let me tell you that. Well, everyone was kind of
- 32:52Speaker 4: glimming dam with Bo Davis decided to leave. Oh she
- 32:55Speaker 4: got an upgrade.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:57Speaker 4: As far as technique, Yeah, for a guy that's played
- 33:01Speaker 4: it a long time.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Oh Man speaks to a group of men. I'm not
- 33:04Speaker 2: saying Bo was not great at that, but like Kyle Williams,
- 33:08Speaker 2: to me, is a special hire for that situation, and
- 33:12Speaker 2: a guy that, like again Lsu, he didn't have to
- 33:17Speaker 2: do this right now.
- 33:18Speaker 4: He just wants to help Lsue, wants to coach Lsue
- 33:21Speaker 4: be a part of the game, give back. So I
- 33:24Speaker 4: think any defensive coach that came out would be lucky
- 33:26Speaker 4: to have a lot of that stuff.
- 33:29Speaker 3: All right, well, step way more OTB when we come
- 33:32Speaker 3: back here live from the Raisin King studio. All right,

- 35:35Speaker 2: All right.
- 35:35Speaker 3: When it comes to construction in Louisiana, nobody does it
- 35:38Speaker 3: like Palla, whether it's industrial, electrical, or mechanical. Palace been
- 35:43Speaker 3: building this state the right way for over fifty years.
- 35:47Speaker 2: From plants to pipelines.
- 35:49Speaker 3: They do it all with that same Louisiana pride and precision.
- 35:53Speaker 3: So if you're looking to partner with the best in
- 35:55Speaker 3: the business. Go check them out at palagroup dot com.
- 35:57Speaker 3: That's palagroup dot com. Palla building the Gulf South from
- 36:01Speaker 3: the ground up again. That website is palagroup dot com.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Hello, is sound getting a chat? Uh? Uh uh?
- 36:12Speaker 3: You think they ever do that? Like when they're like
- 36:13Speaker 3: hiring some new staff, like a team building moment.
- 36:16Speaker 4: Yeah, like a safety meet, like a week in safety meeting.
- 36:19Speaker 4: Star started to finish it with pala, Yeah, uh, finish it.
- 36:23Speaker 4: They all put their hands in the middle. Yeah, Pala
- 36:25Speaker 4: on three, Pala on me one two three, pala pala.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Yeah. There you got it.
- 36:30Speaker 3: And if they don't, if they don't do that, then
- 36:31Speaker 3: I'm gonna be disappointed now, So hopefully they do that.
- 36:36Speaker 3: It's back litt report.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Warming up today. You know the best Oh
- 36:47Speaker 2: it's Louisiana.
- 36:49Speaker 3: You know the best part about the whole coaching search thing.
- 36:52Speaker 3: It's November the twelfth.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Turkeys haven't even been slaughtered yet.
- 36:58Speaker 3: Y'all know, there's a real there's a chance that we
- 37:02Speaker 3: could be over forty days away from hiring a new coach. Depending, yeah,
- 37:08Speaker 3: it could be forty days.
- 37:10Speaker 4: Well, they said today, as long as possible. If they're
- 37:13Speaker 4: going after Wane might be until January.
- 37:15Speaker 3: Yeah, so I just have forty I figured like almost January, good,
- 37:21Speaker 3: good round number.
- 37:23Speaker 2: That didn't get us a January buddy. I mean it's
- 37:25Speaker 2: almost thirty one.
- 37:27Speaker 3: Let's see how many more days we got to EATSK
- 37:32Speaker 3: fifty fifty okay, fifty days of speculation, fifty days of wondering,
- 37:39Speaker 3: fifty days.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Of timeline betting odds. That'd be fun.
- 37:46Speaker 3: No, even if you hire somebody that is not in
- 37:53Speaker 3: the Coege football playoff or not in conference championship weekend,
- 37:57Speaker 3: you're probably looking at maybe three weeks. Three weeks sounds
- 38:03Speaker 3: a lot better than fifty days of knowing who the
- 38:07Speaker 3: leader of your program is going to be.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and look happened.
- 38:13Speaker 3: This happens like John Summerrall last year probably would have
- 38:17Speaker 3: gone to a power forward job, but Tulane was still
- 38:21Speaker 3: playing for things, he still had a conference championship, and
- 38:24Speaker 3: he's like, hey, the timing's just not right right now,
- 38:27Speaker 3: and he decided to delay to here.
- 38:29Speaker 2: And John Summer is gonna get one of these jobs.
- 38:32Speaker 2: I don't know which one.
- 38:33Speaker 3: He's gonna get one of them, but he could have
- 38:35Speaker 3: done it last year. He just he's like, yeah, you
- 38:37Speaker 3: know what, we're still playing all right, it's not right,
- 38:40Speaker 3: Like I want to be here for this conference championship
- 38:42Speaker 3: game and we'll kick the can down the road a.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Little bit that so we did so.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Not just let me ask you this your timing, it's
- 38:51Speaker 3: theirs too.
- 38:52Speaker 4: If now we what we saw against Aldam was the
- 38:56Speaker 4: lack of execution, it was you saw a change I
- 38:59Speaker 4: thought of just the feel of the way the LSUE
- 39:01Speaker 4: is playing. Can they keep that up? It's a week
- 39:04Speaker 4: it's going to be the game two with an interim coach.
- 39:07Speaker 4: You've kind of the interm bump is gone. That's usually
- 39:10Speaker 4: just the week after h But can they keep playing
- 39:14Speaker 4: like that? I believe they will. I believe they're t
- 39:18Speaker 4: You know, you got to understand what to play for.
- 39:19Speaker 4: You're playing. These individuals are playing for themselves right now,
- 39:23Speaker 4: for the team as a whole. But like they have
- 39:24Speaker 4: to put good tape out there, so there's things to
- 39:26Speaker 4: motivate this team with. Now, let's just play it hypothetical
- 39:30Speaker 4: here that no one expects to see or wants to see.
- 39:32Speaker 4: But let's play a hypothetical where they don't go and
- 39:34Speaker 4: put a product out on the field that's improved and
- 39:36Speaker 4: they don't execute and bad things happen on the outcome
- 39:41Speaker 4: going forward this season, does that timeline or urgency speed
- 39:45Speaker 4: up for you and the hiring process for LSU? Like,
- 39:48Speaker 4: I know you said all the things, We're going to
- 39:50Speaker 4: get the best head coach as long as it takes
- 39:51Speaker 4: whatever that is. But if things start to slide, is
- 39:55Speaker 4: that urgency pick up? Because I think I think it's
- 39:57Speaker 4: like Frank Wilson can write the ship. From a recruiting standpoint,
- 40:00Speaker 4: let's show some five like we can still maintain our recruits,
- 40:04Speaker 4: can we maintain our current players? All this stuff? But
- 40:07Speaker 4: if it starts a slide, are you like, okay, now
- 40:11Speaker 4: let's cast a bigger net. Let's make sure. Let's now
- 40:14Speaker 4: start eliminating people that we know are going to take
- 40:16Speaker 4: fifty days.
- 40:17Speaker 2: Because we have to do something. Now, that's actually a
- 40:22Speaker 2: good question. Thank you, Good for you, Thank you. I
- 40:26Speaker 2: just came up with it.
- 40:29Speaker 3: On the old nugging and I actually I think there's
- 40:32Speaker 3: something to it because to your point, let's say it's
- 40:35Speaker 3: the worst case scenario.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Let's say you lose to Arkansas. We don't think it
- 40:39Speaker 2: will be, but you beat.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Western Kentucky and know, yeah, there's nothing you can do, and.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Then you lose to Oklahoma.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Do you want to sit and let that just fester
- 40:50Speaker 3: for four or five weeks? Probably not even because if.
- 40:55Speaker 4: You lose to Arkansas and the only makeup game you
- 40:58Speaker 4: have to wait two weeks to play a real game.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Yeah, right, even if that happens. So to your point,
- 41:04Speaker 2: if it's sliding, you don't want to crash. Do you
- 41:08Speaker 2: become less picky?
- 41:09Speaker 3: Yeah, not even less picky. Not because I think there's
- 41:15Speaker 3: I think there's plenty of people on this list. I
- 41:16Speaker 3: think there's five guys right now that you could hire
- 41:20Speaker 3: that would come in here and win and be a
- 41:23Speaker 3: great hire. We got five, So I wouldn't say less picky.
- 41:27Speaker 3: I would just say less patient with waiting on that
- 41:32Speaker 3: person because of their situation.
- 41:36Speaker 2: And I agree.
- 41:37Speaker 3: If you have no momentum and it's like you got
- 41:40Speaker 3: this high school signing class, and let's not forget you
- 41:43Speaker 3: still got some Jimmy's and Joe's in that class, it's
- 41:47Speaker 3: it's still a top class. Yeah, you might want to
- 41:50Speaker 3: make sure that you go ahead and get some positive
- 41:53Speaker 3: momentum and get a leader in front of the building.
- 41:57Speaker 2: It's not wait to old misk it's knocked out of playoffs, right, Yeah,
- 42:00Speaker 2: I don't think. I don't. I don't. I just don't
- 42:01Speaker 2: believe that's what I get past.
- 42:06Speaker 8: In a perfect world for me. December third. You have
- 42:09Speaker 8: to have a coach. I know you don't, but I
- 42:12Speaker 8: would like.
- 42:12Speaker 2: One, especially if you slide.
- 42:16Speaker 3: All right, we'll take a break, continue that conversation when

- 44:41Speaker 2: Help you with.
- 44:41Speaker 3: Go to gcopnet dot com. Do we care if it's
- 44:50Speaker 3: an offense or a defensive minded head coach for olishue,
- 44:55Speaker 3: because I'm.
- 44:55Speaker 9: Going I think, yeah, I think the defense, said staff
- 45:00Speaker 9: is so strong, and the defense, even though there were
- 45:04Speaker 9: a couple of games where they kind of faded a
- 45:06Speaker 9: little bit, which again is I feel on the offense
- 45:09Speaker 9: because they could stay on the field long enough. But
- 45:12Speaker 9: I just feel like our foundation on the defensive side
- 45:15Speaker 9: of the ball is perfectly fine how it is. So
- 45:17Speaker 9: I would like an offensive mine because we obviously don't
- 45:21Speaker 9: have that now.
- 45:21Speaker 8: Yeah, I'd prefer offense for sure. But look, if there's
- 45:25Speaker 8: a guy out there that's a defensive mind that you
- 45:28Speaker 8: love that wants to call him.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Like, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
- 45:32Speaker 8: But I prefer offense.
- 45:33Speaker 4: I really don't care. We have to improve on offense. Obviously,
- 45:37Speaker 4: the foundation of our current offense is poor to quite poor.
- 45:42Speaker 4: I want I want somebody or a head coach. I
- 45:46Speaker 4: just want somebody to come in that's going to reset
- 45:48Speaker 4: the standard and accept nothing less than that. Said standard
- 45:53Speaker 4: that he sets. I don't care if he's offensive defenses,
- 45:55Speaker 4: but yes, we do have to improve the offense because
- 45:57Speaker 4: it's poop.
- 45:58Speaker 2: All right, hour three and you're coming back your way
- 46:00Speaker 2: on O TV.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Off the bench,
