- 0:11Speaker 1: Patriot It's unfiltered. It's your boy, Mike Tousseau and the
- 0:15Speaker 1: host charity Guys Strapping boy. I'll at your boy all right.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Boyd is a Patriot pipe guy to me, yeah, just
- 0:22Speaker 1: another number two teas. He check it to a negative place.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Favorite food. I'm all about the Lizzie Lizzies. It's ever
- 0:32Speaker 1: been part of a parade I have and I used
- 0:34Speaker 1: to have to put costumes on and dress and I'd
- 0:38Speaker 1: walked a parade route. Tigger. Oh that was my my
- 0:41Speaker 1: go to costume. I was always the tiger one. You
- 0:43Speaker 1: get to be like fifteen, sixteen, seventeen. Now you're looking around,
- 0:47Speaker 1: Oh hey, how you do? Hey it's me, and you're
- 0:50Speaker 1: like you lift up that. That was my tigger impression.
- 0:58Speaker 1: This is Patriot's un filter fueled by Duncan. All right,
- 1:04Speaker 1: Welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here at Gillette Stadium,
- 1:10Speaker 1: and I'm back and I just learned that Patriot, I
- 1:13Speaker 1: mean Paul is a sixteen year old dressed up as
- 1:15Speaker 1: tiger in parades. Yeah, wow, try to pick up girls. Yeah,
- 1:20Speaker 1: that's um, it wasn't around. It wasn't for that reason.
- 1:24Speaker 1: That was just that's something side effect dressing up as tiger.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Tiger Yeah as a sixteen year old. Yeah, well did
- 1:31Speaker 1: and you did this willingly in the fourth of July
- 1:35Speaker 1: parade will Willingly. So there wasn't some point like when
- 1:38Speaker 1: you were eleven, You're like, yeah, I don't want to
- 1:40Speaker 1: do this anymore. No, you just kept doing it. No,
- 1:43Speaker 1: it was like the hype moss, like running around getting
- 1:45Speaker 1: the crest candy out. Wow, you know like we do
- 1:48Speaker 1: before training called giving back to the community, giving back
- 1:51Speaker 1: dressing as Tiger. Well, Paul, what are you doing now?
- 1:53Speaker 1: I'm giving back giving back to community. Like you make
- 1:56Speaker 1: it sound like it's cosplay. It's not dressing as tiger.
- 1:59Speaker 1: It's a parade, right, but they had like you and
- 2:01Speaker 1: you address this tiger in the parade. I sound like that,
- 2:06Speaker 1: Like that's what I do, like on Friday nights. I
- 2:08Speaker 1: have a feeling that you wore I have a feeling
- 2:11Speaker 1: you wore the costume other times too. I don't think
- 2:13Speaker 1: it was relegated to that one day. I'm not going
- 2:18Speaker 1: to take this stuff from you either listen, listen, listen,
- 2:22Speaker 1: he can make fun of me. I could No, it
- 2:28Speaker 1: was not cosplay Fred. Sorry, I don't know. No, I
- 2:31Speaker 1: did not wear I think we just found something out
- 2:32Speaker 1: about Paul. Yeah, yeah, the guy with the Winnie the Pooh,
- 2:35Speaker 1: he was the one who pulled all the Really are
- 2:38Speaker 1: you into my little pony too? Little? You heard about
- 2:42Speaker 1: those people right? Like takes it takes a week off
- 2:44Speaker 1: and he comes back with guns little pony people. Oh,
- 2:47Speaker 1: my sisters should big my little point people know, but
- 2:50Speaker 1: there they have people. There's grown men like bronies or something. Yeah,
- 2:53Speaker 1: there's grown men who are into my little pony and
- 2:56Speaker 1: they take it to like really bad places. Anyway, Welcome
- 3:01Speaker 1: back to Patriots Unfiltered. We'll be here for the next
- 3:05Speaker 1: two hours. It's Deuce is tomorrow, it's Paul, it's me,
- 3:07Speaker 1: It's Matt and the booth. And what did I miss
- 3:11Speaker 1: last week? Think we did not talk about soap? Yeah,
- 3:15Speaker 1: well look at this. I have like we're gonna get
- 3:19Speaker 1: into this later, but I forget. I have to look
- 3:21Speaker 1: up the email who the generous person was who sent
- 3:25Speaker 1: us these? But this is uh generous his version of
- 3:29Speaker 1: soap with a slot. So we're gonna get into the
- 3:30Speaker 1: presentation of this later. Really a big box, well it's
- 3:34Speaker 1: many bars bars. Yeah, there's I've actually never seen soap
- 3:38Speaker 1: with a slot. Well this isn't it, but it's close.
- 3:41Speaker 1: The concept is the same, alright, So we're gonna get
- 3:44Speaker 1: into that little later. I'm looking forward to that. Yeah,
- 3:47Speaker 1: maybe we'll open one up. And yeah, we're gonna definitely
- 3:49Speaker 1: open one. I'll give each of you or your own
- 3:52Speaker 1: bar like a shower during the lunch break and yeah,
- 3:54Speaker 1: in the room there, all right, um, Patriots stuff. What's
- 3:58Speaker 1: going on? Damian Harris, Okay, yeah I heard that last week. Yeah,
- 4:06Speaker 1: Paul put a video up about it, you know, and
- 4:08Speaker 1: breaking down the dog and yeah, but I saw some video,
- 4:12Speaker 1: some Mac Jones videos on social media NonStop. I mean
- 4:17Speaker 1: him working out out there, sweat boff out in California.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I mean he does look different, right, he does. He
- 4:23Speaker 1: does as expected. I mean it's you know, year two.
- 4:26Speaker 1: NFL system can take from that what you whatever it
- 4:29Speaker 1: might mean of nutrition and strength training and all the
- 4:32Speaker 1: things I mean expected expected. Hopefully it pays off, just
- 4:35Speaker 1: with not getting dinked up and having some that's something
- 4:39Speaker 1: I kind of worry about. With him a little bit,
- 4:40Speaker 1: just you know, I think any pocket quarterback you're worried about,
- 4:43Speaker 1: he's gonna take some hits. So hopefully he's able to
- 4:46Speaker 1: to what do you say, bulk up? He thinned down,
- 4:48Speaker 1: then he's gonna bulk up, bulk back up at a camp.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I guess is that what the plan was? That is
- 4:52Speaker 1: what he said at at medicamp. Yeah, that he will
- 4:55Speaker 1: be putting more back on because he needs to get
- 4:59Speaker 1: back up to play weight. Yeah, so out in California.
- 5:03Speaker 1: But there's different types of weight. You know, there's just
- 5:05Speaker 1: like you know, doey weight and then there's like muscle weight. Well,
- 5:10Speaker 1: how do you I mean, how do you do it?
- 5:11Speaker 1: Once you get going in camp and you're outside and
- 5:13Speaker 1: you're sweating, I mean, how do you put good weight on?
- 5:16Speaker 1: Well that's the problem. I mean, you know, you hear
- 5:18Speaker 1: these stories of particularly a lineman having to put calories on,
- 5:23Speaker 1: you know, like you know, ingesting like seven thousand and
- 5:26Speaker 1: eight thousand calories a day just to keep the weight
- 5:29Speaker 1: on because they're losing weight so easily during camp. That's
- 5:34Speaker 1: a good video with what I eat in a day
- 5:35Speaker 1: with Trent Brown, you know, like how many calories does
- 5:39Speaker 1: that guy have to consume, especially when you get going
- 5:41Speaker 1: in the heat of August and you're out there, ye,
- 5:44Speaker 1: sweating your ass off. I feel like the perfect person
- 5:46Speaker 1: for that would be cool. Strange, Yeah, five guys, that's
- 5:50Speaker 1: just because you want to be up with five guys
- 5:52Speaker 1: with him, and that's a good way to get some
- 5:55Speaker 1: some quick calories. But how do you how does Bob
- 5:57Speaker 1: manage that? The uh, what's Bob's last name? Bob? The
- 6:01Speaker 1: mustriicianist ted Ted Harper. I was thinking of Bob Harper.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Who's Bob? I don't know, Sorry, Yeah, I think Cole
- 6:08Speaker 1: would be good just from like I'm telling a long
- 6:11Speaker 1: weekend from like a rookie standpoint, I guess kind of
- 6:14Speaker 1: seeing like, you know, how he adjusts to the camp
- 6:16Speaker 1: life and then also you know, the training of it
- 6:19Speaker 1: and the consuming of different. Yeah, I'm sure it was
- 6:23Speaker 1: like obviously they have camping college football, but this is
- 6:26Speaker 1: a lot different seeing how he handles it all, putting
- 6:29Speaker 1: on the weight and stuff. Absolutely, I think you're probably
- 6:32Speaker 1: a little bit more customized. Yeah at the pro level, yeah,
- 6:35Speaker 1: you know, yeah, maybe they get a little bit of
- 6:37Speaker 1: a break right now. But I mean for those rookies yeah,
- 6:40Speaker 1: but you got to come in and shape, yeah, to
- 6:42Speaker 1: pass that conditioning. We're un you know. That's why I'm
- 6:44Speaker 1: always curious when I come into the morning just how
- 6:46Speaker 1: full the parking lot is. I mean, I know there's
- 6:48Speaker 1: coaches and stuff, but you know how many of those
- 6:50Speaker 1: guys are got an eye And you know, I mean
- 6:52Speaker 1: it all starts, what three weeks from tomorrow, it's yeah,
- 6:55Speaker 1: it's been announced July twenty seventh is the first day
- 6:58Speaker 1: for the public to be here. Um, So that's Wednesday,
- 7:03Speaker 1: and we're gonna be live, you know, like we've been
- 7:06Speaker 1: over the last few years. Um, for the first four days,
- 7:09Speaker 1: we'll have video on the field, so that'll be fun,
- 7:13Speaker 1: be exciting. Yeah, yeah, right here, just a few weeks.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Summer's over. I know, it goes so fast. It's been nice.
- 7:22Speaker 1: At least we've got some nice weather this Uh we
- 7:24Speaker 1: did last year fourth of July was a rain out,
- 7:26Speaker 1: so it couldn't have been better. This weekend, well, it's
- 7:29Speaker 1: the you know, it's the first time in where I
- 7:31Speaker 1: live now where they've had fireworks, you know, because the
- 7:34Speaker 1: COVID and everything. Uh, they're right next to my house literally,
- 7:39Speaker 1: I mean it was like probably a two minute walk
- 7:42Speaker 1: down the street and I didn't go but you know,
- 7:45Speaker 1: bang bang baby bang man not well not well, um
- 7:50Speaker 1: just and then you know, for like half an hour
- 7:53Speaker 1: and then the cars like traffic like you know, so
- 7:57Speaker 1: it's something I need to be prepared for next year.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Wherever they launch should mot of. It was like a
- 8:00Speaker 1: high school by the pond. There's a pond down the
- 8:03Speaker 1: street with this old house, the haxy houses. And then
- 8:07Speaker 1: it's just like even this whole like last week. I
- 8:09Speaker 1: mean these whole, like ten days. It's every night just
- 8:12Speaker 1: random fireworks here and there. I know, people with dogs,
- 8:15Speaker 1: get babies. I saw a lot of like people with infants,
- 8:20Speaker 1: like posting on Instagram story like y'all keep waking out
- 8:23Speaker 1: my babies with these random fireworks. Please stop. Yeah, but anyway,
- 8:28Speaker 1: it was like you said, it was a great weekend.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Great weekend. Yeah, well it was great. Took in a
- 8:33Speaker 1: REVS game. I guess tomorrow was there. I didn't see
- 8:35Speaker 1: her on the sideline shots fired already, I was. I
- 8:39Speaker 1: was there. I got old man eyes. Where you want
- 8:42Speaker 1: the video? I wish he was on at some point
- 8:45Speaker 1: I was on the west side. Oh so you had
- 8:48Speaker 1: a good should but he was watching the game. I was.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I did do a few look arounds for you, just
- 8:54Speaker 1: to see where they had you little. Yeah, I didn't realize.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I didn't know that the full set probably have those
- 8:59Speaker 1: walls up, artificial walls, and then most people are behind them,
- 9:02Speaker 1: but not Bruce. No, he just kind of post it
- 9:06Speaker 1: up like he's the sheriff, you know, leader to watch him.
- 9:09Speaker 1: But um, but it was fun. I mean it's interesting
- 9:11Speaker 1: we're talking about the fans and the drums and the
- 9:13Speaker 1: songs and everything that they do and for it. Yeah,
- 9:16Speaker 1: it's great. It's such a unique, a unique fan experience
- 9:20Speaker 1: with stadium. Yeah really, I mean it's a nice, intimate,
- 9:25Speaker 1: twenty five thousand seat stadium in Boston would be awesome
- 9:29Speaker 1: for them, Yeah, without feeling like half of it, Yeah,
- 9:31Speaker 1: in the upper bowls are empty. Yeah. Yeah. But it
- 9:34Speaker 1: was a good crowd. I mean, there a lot of
- 9:35Speaker 1: people seem, you know, very invested, and you know that
- 9:39Speaker 1: the chance we're we're going. It's just funny how soccer
- 9:42Speaker 1: kind of has this own little fan experience to itself,
- 9:45Speaker 1: and really no other sport has. You have to sort
- 9:48Speaker 1: of create your own enthusiasm. I feel, no, I fred Um,
- 9:54Speaker 1: you know, on the small stadium. I think that would
- 9:56Speaker 1: be so perfect for them. Yeah, from a noise standpoint,
- 9:59Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, would you imagine that fort in the twenty
- 10:01Speaker 1: five thousand seed stadium as opposed to sixty five thousand, Right, Well,
- 10:05Speaker 1: that was a little weird to me was that they
- 10:06Speaker 1: gave one guy a microphone. So I'm like, this is
- 10:09Speaker 1: strange you give a fan a microphone who's like kind
- 10:12Speaker 1: of leading the chance. But maybe I guess if you're
- 10:14Speaker 1: in a small stadium, you wouldn't need to do that
- 10:16Speaker 1: to propel it as much. But but it was. It
- 10:20Speaker 1: was fun. My in laws they very much enjoyed it,
- 10:22Speaker 1: and uh, it was just a beautiful, beautiful night. I
- 10:25Speaker 1: feel like it was a really competitive game too, with
- 10:27Speaker 1: a match two with not a lot of stoppage like
- 10:29Speaker 1: I feel like the last home match they had it
- 10:32Speaker 1: was a lot of yellow cards, a lot of just
- 10:36Speaker 1: like the flow wasn't there. Yeah, where I feel like
- 10:38Speaker 1: this of course, it was just like, well the rest
- 10:42Speaker 1: just signed the new guy from it was supposed to
- 10:45Speaker 1: be pretty good. Yeah yeah, yeah, well I know they
- 10:47Speaker 1: lost a couple guys, but Matt Turner, yeah, it's it's
- 10:52Speaker 1: it's amazing. The sport. Just the skill with the feet,
- 10:56Speaker 1: stop and run full speed, all right, but enough soccer,
- 11:01Speaker 1: back to American football. Yeah, yeah, so we got what
- 11:05Speaker 1: Watson still working his stuff out. We talked a little
- 11:07Speaker 1: bit about that last week. But I was listening to
- 11:11Speaker 1: one of Paul's shows this morning and they're still on
- 11:14Speaker 1: this case, and they they're citing mostly Tom Curran and
- 11:17Speaker 1: Phil Perry about the transformation of the offense. It's gonna
- 11:21Speaker 1: be a lot different than anything we've seen. I mean,
- 11:27Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe I think there's gonna be some
- 11:29Speaker 1: changes to it, but I don't think it's gonna be
- 11:33Speaker 1: this dramatic thing. I think it's probably more. And I
- 11:37Speaker 1: know I was listening to Ted Johnson and Adam Jones
- 11:40Speaker 1: talking about it for I'm sure that's what you were
- 11:42Speaker 1: referring to on the Sports Hub. I think it's as much,
- 11:45Speaker 1: if not more, to do with the coaches than anything
- 11:47Speaker 1: else you do. Um. I just think you have two
- 11:51Speaker 1: coaches that have never learned that system, Like they don't
- 11:54Speaker 1: know that offensive system well enough to be able to
- 11:57Speaker 1: teach it. I don't think so. I think you make
- 11:59Speaker 1: you make some alterations to it. I don't I'm kind
- 12:02Speaker 1: of with Fred. I don't think it's like completely tear
- 12:06Speaker 1: that up and throw it away and let's take this
- 12:08Speaker 1: entire new offensive system and put it in. I mean,
- 12:12Speaker 1: is there anything I don't think it's like that. I
- 12:13Speaker 1: know it's just mini camp, but is there anything that
- 12:16Speaker 1: we saw in mini camp that would say, oh wow,
- 12:18Speaker 1: that's new. No, it was sideline passes, quick passes, get
- 12:21Speaker 1: the ball out of it. A lot of the timing
- 12:23Speaker 1: stuff I did see. Now, like Mike and I've been
- 12:26Speaker 1: talking because you've been away, Fred, so you're not really
- 12:28Speaker 1: privy to our our high level football talks been you know, months,
- 12:32Speaker 1: we're talking about rpospos like maybe more college kind of
- 12:35Speaker 1: stuff that Mac Jones is more familiar with from Alabama.
- 12:38Speaker 1: So not him running by the way right. RPO is
- 12:41Speaker 1: a run pass option, that's right, Not Mac Jones running
- 12:44Speaker 1: that's right, that's right, not read options right exactly. But
- 12:47Speaker 1: one thing that I did hear and I forget was
- 12:50Speaker 1: I think it was one of our coaches who said it.
- 12:52Speaker 1: He said that when you've got the fullback here, you know,
- 12:56Speaker 1: that kind of dictates the play a little bit. And
- 12:58Speaker 1: we're not running the fullback anymore, so that that kind
- 13:02Speaker 1: of made me think, Okay, maybe they do want to
- 13:06Speaker 1: get a little bit more deceptive on offense, which would
- 13:09Speaker 1: lend to the players that have more, you know, and
- 13:12Speaker 1: you know that's maybe what you look back like. A
- 13:14Speaker 1: guy like Ty Montgomery was signed, you know, with an
- 13:17Speaker 1: idea of being less predictable when he's on the field. Right,
- 13:22Speaker 1: you know, you're right when I watched in the spring,
- 13:26Speaker 1: I'm not Johnny Football, Like I'm not Greg Badard. I'm
- 13:29Speaker 1: not gonna sit here and break down well they're running
- 13:32Speaker 1: the you know, the Ron Earhart system or whatever. Like, yeah,
- 13:35Speaker 1: I know West Coast offense and these terms. I'm not
- 13:38Speaker 1: sure I can tell you breaking it down x's nose
- 13:41Speaker 1: just by watching. Well, that's that's that offense. You know,
- 13:45Speaker 1: I'm not at that level. So to me, a lot
- 13:48Speaker 1: of the stuff that they ran looked very similar to
- 13:50Speaker 1: the stuff that I've seen, you know, option routes, quick throws, um,
- 13:54Speaker 1: you know the little jerk routes that they run with
- 13:56Speaker 1: the slot guys that you know they cut in they
- 13:59Speaker 1: break out. The call him Jerick routes because you make
- 14:01Speaker 1: the defensive back look at jerk. Right. I think similar
- 14:04Speaker 1: to the conversation that we've kind of had before, Like
- 14:06Speaker 1: calculus is calculus, right, but it can be taught different ways. Yeah,
- 14:10Speaker 1: I think it's probably going to be a very similar offense,
- 14:13Speaker 1: just yeah, taught different Well, they mentioned this morning, you
- 14:17Speaker 1: know it's going to be more McVeigh Shanahan offense. Okay,
- 14:20Speaker 1: first of all, which one, because they're on two separate teams.
- 14:24Speaker 1: One has Matthew Stafford as a quarterback, the other has
- 14:26Speaker 1: Jimmy garoppolore you know Frey Lance now. But from what
- 14:31Speaker 1: we've seen with what Shanahan did with Garoppolo, I think
- 14:35Speaker 1: it was a lot like what we did when Garoppolo
- 14:38Speaker 1: was here for those couple of games where he played quick,
- 14:41Speaker 1: quick passes, quick reads, get the ball out of his hands,
- 14:45Speaker 1: and you know, Garoppolo ran it perfectly. Um, I think
- 14:49Speaker 1: Matt can do the same thing. I can. I think
- 14:51Speaker 1: you can do that. But I think Brady also did
- 14:54Speaker 1: the same thing at times. You know. Yeah, well, I
- 14:56Speaker 1: think the Shanahan one is a little bit The only
- 14:59Speaker 1: thing it bumps Hi that and a bump me when
- 15:00Speaker 1: they were talking about him. Them drafting Mac Jones was
- 15:03Speaker 1: just the you know a lot of wide zone. I
- 15:05Speaker 1: mean you see a lot of wide zone in camp,
- 15:06Speaker 1: and I think that's what threw people off because that's
- 15:08Speaker 1: the base of of you know, going back to Denver
- 15:11Speaker 1: and their running system and you know, Mike Shanahan and
- 15:14Speaker 1: back in the day. But you know, I think the
- 15:17Speaker 1: question that there's a few things to think about, like
- 15:19Speaker 1: Josh leaving. You know, like like how much when an
- 15:22Speaker 1: offensive coordinator leaves do you say, all right, let's reassess.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I mean, usually you'd have a new offensive coordinator to
- 15:27Speaker 1: kind of take over and put in their stuff. I mean,
- 15:29Speaker 1: so to that regard, I think, you know, Paul Zone, right,
- 15:31Speaker 1: what does Mac do well? You know, how do you
- 15:33Speaker 1: tweak it towards Mac? I just think at the end
- 15:35Speaker 1: of the day, all the things about the play calling
- 15:37Speaker 1: and the offensive changing, it's all great to talk about
- 15:41Speaker 1: in the summer, but like we're just going to get
- 15:42Speaker 1: into the games and they have to produce points. Like
- 15:45Speaker 1: you know, there's certainly some things where hey, short yard
- 15:47Speaker 1: is situation. We knew last year Jacob Johnson, here comes
- 15:50Speaker 1: the big fullback. You know, we're like, what do they
- 15:52Speaker 1: do now in short yardage? What does their you know,
- 15:54Speaker 1: power running game look like now without that fullback position.
- 15:58Speaker 1: So I think that's certainly like something that's gonna change
- 16:00Speaker 1: without the full back position, which I don't know how much.
- 16:03Speaker 1: It's like an active like we're not doing the full
- 16:04Speaker 1: back anymore, but they don't have one anymore. So you know,
- 16:07Speaker 1: does somebody like Dalton Keene do they give him a
- 16:09Speaker 1: look in? You know, not to say he's Kyle Uschek,
- 16:12Speaker 1: but you know, more of that h back that kind
- 16:14Speaker 1: of role. Incorporate that more into the power formation. So
- 16:18Speaker 1: it'll be things to watch. But I just at the
- 16:20Speaker 1: end of the day, and it's going to be a
- 16:21Speaker 1: football offense that's loosely looks like everything we've seen, and
- 16:24Speaker 1: they just they have to produce. They have to move
- 16:26Speaker 1: the ball. They have to score points. You know, whether
- 16:28Speaker 1: or not it looks a certain way or if they're
- 16:29Speaker 1: running more bootlegs or right whatever, here's the ball down
- 16:32Speaker 1: the field. Just do it. Paul, Do you remember I'm
- 16:35Speaker 1: going to test your Patriots memory the first time as
- 16:40Speaker 1: a Patriot person who covered the Patriots we were introduced
- 16:43Speaker 1: to the h back position and what player it was.
- 16:47Speaker 1: I mean, you may not have been with us at
- 16:49Speaker 1: the time. Wow, it's going back then, huh, Sam Gash
- 16:52Speaker 1: or something like that it was Parcels with Keith Buyers. Keith, Yeah,
- 16:58Speaker 1: that's the first time. Oh h back that what that is? Yeah,
- 17:01Speaker 1: we asked Belichick what h back stood for and he
- 17:03Speaker 1: said half back. So like, okay, but it isn't right.
- 17:08Speaker 1: I mean, you know, it's absolutely not Brian. That was way.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Brian was still here too, So it wasn't because of me,
- 17:14Speaker 1: because Brian. Brian was with me when we were asking that,
- 17:17Speaker 1: So it wasn't because he just had no use for me. Yeah,
- 17:19Speaker 1: he didn't give Brian an answer either. Yeah, no, h back.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Every team has a little bit different way of doing it,
- 17:26Speaker 1: but most teams letter every position and then there's variations.
- 17:30Speaker 1: So wide receiver isn't one number. It depends on where
- 17:33Speaker 1: you line up all the way from X Y Z,
- 17:36Speaker 1: you know, Z being the guy that's furthest out on
- 17:38Speaker 1: the formation, but h back in the backfield. From what
- 17:42Speaker 1: I learned under Parcels is he's this guy that kind
- 17:46Speaker 1: of lines up like on the flank there and and
- 17:51Speaker 1: can either you know, up to the yeah, and he's
- 17:54Speaker 1: mostly a pass catcher, but he can run the ball.
- 17:57Speaker 1: You know, he can go in motion and all that stuff.
- 17:59Speaker 1: But Keith Buyers was that a guy that you know,
- 18:02Speaker 1: they pointed at his Okay, he's gonna try to be
- 18:04Speaker 1: an h back. Yeah, it's kind of like a full
- 18:06Speaker 1: back slash tight end. Yeah, you move them around, he
- 18:08Speaker 1: could block a little bit maybe. I mean, I think
- 18:10Speaker 1: Uschek is kind of the I mean, and you could
- 18:13Speaker 1: even say he's more just a receiving We were sold
- 18:16Speaker 1: that could be that type of guy. That was that
- 18:20Speaker 1: was you know in theory. I mean, he was a
- 18:22Speaker 1: third round pick too, So it's it's just sound, you know,
- 18:24Speaker 1: him and ASSISI being third round picks and really looking
- 18:27Speaker 1: face and make or break years. That's a whole other
- 18:29Speaker 1: part of it. But he can't stay on there, and
- 18:31Speaker 1: that's going to be interesting because there's so many I
- 18:33Speaker 1: don't think they have a lot of high end talent,
- 18:35Speaker 1: but they have a lot of candidates to fill those roles,
- 18:38Speaker 1: skill position roles, and I'm all four like keeping defenses
- 18:41Speaker 1: on their heels. Again, I hate beating, you know, a
- 18:45Speaker 1: dead horse. But we heard last year players on other
- 18:49Speaker 1: teams saying the Patriots are easy to defend. Never heard
- 18:53Speaker 1: that before until last year. You know, I want to
- 18:56Speaker 1: get out of that. I don't want to be easy
- 18:58Speaker 1: to defend the one you need play. Yeah, and well,
- 19:00Speaker 1: because schemes aren't going to make you hard to different,
- 19:03Speaker 1: but it can be a little If you have guys
- 19:05Speaker 1: who can do multiple things while they're on the field,
- 19:08Speaker 1: it just makes it harder for the defense to substitute
- 19:12Speaker 1: to match up. But what do you mean by I'm sorry?
- 19:14Speaker 1: Go ahead? So when he says that guys that can
- 19:16Speaker 1: do multiple things, do you think that's why they brought
- 19:18Speaker 1: in someone like time outcomer? Exactly? I do. Yeah, so
- 19:21Speaker 1: what are the multiple things that he can do? Well,
- 19:23Speaker 1: no matter whatever the look is on offense, you can
- 19:26Speaker 1: run different things out of it. So you can run
- 19:28Speaker 1: or a pass, run or pass or different types of running.
- 19:32Speaker 1: But you're not getting down the field with time Montgomery. No,
- 19:34Speaker 1: but you might, so you're easy to differ. Now you've
- 19:36Speaker 1: got Davante Parker, and I think all these things can
- 19:40Speaker 1: help you be a little bit tougher to the fact.
- 19:43Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. It's not about the scheme, it's
- 19:44Speaker 1: about the players. Yeah, well you have if you have
- 19:47Speaker 1: players that have a skill set, that okay. But the
- 19:50Speaker 1: players allow you to do these things, well, that's what
- 19:52Speaker 1: I'm saying. They need to. They need to improve their
- 19:55Speaker 1: talent to be tougher to defend. But I think you
- 19:57Speaker 1: ask me, I think part of that improvement also come
- 20:00Speaker 1: from these second year free agents getting better, you know,
- 20:03Speaker 1: knowing things, having being able to do things without thinking
- 20:06Speaker 1: as much. Uh. And I don't underestimate the addition of
- 20:10Speaker 1: Davante Parker. I think he raises the level of that
- 20:14Speaker 1: receiving corps. I'll see if he does. Yeah. I think
- 20:17Speaker 1: I think you've got a good running back stable. I
- 20:21Speaker 1: think that's really good. I think Strange might might be
- 20:25Speaker 1: an upgrade on your offensive line. I love I love
- 20:28Speaker 1: resigning Trent Brown. Isaiah Win's gonna be injury free this year,
- 20:33Speaker 1: so I'm I'm very bullish on the offense, very bad.
- 20:38Speaker 1: He doesn't take a week off and he comes back
- 20:41Speaker 1: if he came back, and you're like so optimistic here,
- 20:43Speaker 1: I've always I've been saying this about the offense for
- 20:46Speaker 1: a while. Matt Jones. Okay, I think, okay, well, okay, Fred,
- 20:53Speaker 1: you you missed. Give it to me, you missed, James,
- 20:56Speaker 1: you missed this. Last Tuesday, someone came in and good,
- 21:04Speaker 1: thank you, sir. Um. Someone called in and asked about
- 21:08Speaker 1: because obviously you can't keep all these skill players. So
- 21:12Speaker 1: who do you think is going to be the surprise cut?
- 21:15Speaker 1: And what was the other question? It was surprise cut?
- 21:17Speaker 1: And then dark Horse? Yeah, what are yours? Dark Horse? Um,
- 21:26Speaker 1: well it's time Montgomery does he is? Or he is he?
- 21:30Speaker 1: Like everybody thinks, Okay, he's a lock. I don't know
- 21:34Speaker 1: if he's a lock, but it's a free agent signing. Yeah,
- 21:36Speaker 1: like he should make I don't think he's a dark horse.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I wouldn't get a lock, but I guess should I
- 21:42Speaker 1: guess dark Horse? Maybe Trey Nick? Yeah I picked Okay,
- 21:46Speaker 1: that's a good one. But so who goes? But that's
- 21:48Speaker 1: the thing, it's a numbers game. I was just gonna say, now,
- 21:51Speaker 1: surprise cut, it's not a cut, but I surprise trade.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Still could be Agalore, you know Wett, Yeah, be tough
- 22:01Speaker 1: with that contract. Jacoby Myers would be my guy. He's
- 22:05Speaker 1: more affordable and I think he has more upside. He's
- 22:08Speaker 1: a better player. Yeah, someone might say I could I
- 22:11Speaker 1: could use him eighty three catches where we're looking for
- 22:15Speaker 1: help on defense? Yes, you know I think so? Yeah,
- 22:18Speaker 1: I mean I'm with you. I mean you you certainly
- 22:20Speaker 1: colored it it's hard, very positive on offense. But I'm
- 22:24Speaker 1: excited to elea see how it plays out because they
- 22:26Speaker 1: got a lot of pieces. I think Paul, you know,
- 22:27Speaker 1: was right, and in terms of the talent and ken
- 22:30Speaker 1: this group of guys, so push it. So the talent,
- 22:33Speaker 1: so they have on paper there's five receivers that I
- 22:36Speaker 1: don't see going anywhere and Parker, Agalore, Born Myers and
- 22:41Speaker 1: Thornton Ye right now, someone like those are five regular
- 22:46Speaker 1: players that unless you're making a deal to acquire some help,
- 22:50Speaker 1: you know, with an Agalore or with the Myers or
- 22:52Speaker 1: something like that, those five guys are going to make
- 22:55Speaker 1: the team. Yeah. So now if it's Trey Nixon as
- 22:59Speaker 1: the sixth, that's really all you get room for. Then
- 23:02Speaker 1: you wonder where does Time Montgomery fit in? Is he
- 23:05Speaker 1: with Stevenson and Harris Damien Harris? You know, he's like
- 23:11Speaker 1: Yakub Johnson like the position the wherever the slot was
- 23:15Speaker 1: for Yakub, that's where you slot in Time Montgomery. So
- 23:20Speaker 1: now you have I agree, I totally agree. I think
- 23:22Speaker 1: that makes a lot of sense. So now you go
- 23:23Speaker 1: with with Mike brought up about five minutes ago. So okay,
- 23:26Speaker 1: you have Hunter Henry and John U. Smith or your
- 23:29Speaker 1: your primary tight ends. Is there spots for Asia or
- 23:34Speaker 1: Dalton Keene? Right one or both? Probably one? Maybe Asiasi stays,
- 23:40Speaker 1: it doesn't look like Dalton Keene's like really ever in
- 23:43Speaker 1: the mix, you know, from a health standpoint, So he's
- 23:45Speaker 1: never out there for us to find out if he
- 23:48Speaker 1: has any potential because he just hasn't been healthy. And
- 23:51Speaker 1: if if those guys make the team, then in time
- 23:55Speaker 1: Montgomery makes it. Now you start to look down the
- 23:57Speaker 1: depth chart a little bit. At running back, you have
- 23:59Speaker 1: two rookies, and Pierre Strong and Kevin Harris. They're going
- 24:02Speaker 1: to be with the team in some regard, right, right,
- 24:04Speaker 1: Pierre Strong, you're not going to get to the You're
- 24:06Speaker 1: not gonna get a draft pick that high to your
- 24:09Speaker 1: practice squad more than likely. Right, he was like a
- 24:11Speaker 1: fourth round pick, right Strong. It's hard to get a
- 24:14Speaker 1: fourth rounder to practice squad. You're gonna have to keep
- 24:17Speaker 1: Zappy for the same reason. Yeah, because you can't put
- 24:20Speaker 1: him on the practice you're loaded. Yeah, right, so you
- 24:24Speaker 1: got the gunners. But this is my but that's that's
- 24:27Speaker 1: I mean, we already used that. We brought in Parker
- 24:29Speaker 1: and Thornton. Right, those guys aren't going anywhere, right, but
- 24:34Speaker 1: nobody left when you brought those, you know, barring injuries,
- 24:37Speaker 1: Parker and Thornton are not going to go anywhere. Yeah. Um,
- 24:41Speaker 1: so it becomes a number scheme. Does James White have
- 24:43Speaker 1: a spot if he's healthy enough right now? Mike and
- 24:46Speaker 1: I think he might start camp on pup. Yeah, yeah,
- 24:49Speaker 1: even though he's been out there in the spring a
- 24:51Speaker 1: little bit. We'll see if he's fully ready to go.
- 24:53Speaker 1: This is a lot of ye, it's not going to
- 24:56Speaker 1: be easy, but don't confuse like the roster decision aren't
- 25:00Speaker 1: easy with they're loaded well, because they're far from loader.
- 25:04Speaker 1: I think they've got a lot of good depth. Good depth.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Now here's my here's my fear. Who's the architect? Okay,
- 25:11Speaker 1: So I think I think that they want to be multiple.
- 25:15Speaker 1: I think they want to keep defenses on their heels.
- 25:18Speaker 1: They don't want to, you know, have tells on offense.
- 25:21Speaker 1: I agree, because they have to trick it all right,
- 25:23Speaker 1: But I wonder if they get too complicated. Whereas you know,
- 25:27Speaker 1: I think it's going to be less common. Last year,
- 25:29Speaker 1: I you know, it seemed they were too simplistic, easy
- 25:32Speaker 1: to defend if Matt Patricia's the architect of this thing
- 25:35Speaker 1: and he's got his rit engineer had on because he
- 25:39Speaker 1: get too common, here's where it likes. Who's I don't
- 25:43Speaker 1: care about the title coordinator, who's the architect of this offense? Ye? See,
- 25:48Speaker 1: I think you're confusing. And again this is semantics with
- 25:51Speaker 1: me and you you're confusing. They were easy to defend
- 25:53Speaker 1: last year because of scheme with talent, well, I think
- 25:56Speaker 1: I think they are. I think they had an incredibly
- 26:00Speaker 1: complex scheme and that's the only reason why it worked
- 26:03Speaker 1: to the extent it worked, like how many Jacobe Myers
- 26:06Speaker 1: passes were completed. But I agree, I think the personnel
- 26:10Speaker 1: dictated what they thought they could do on offense last year,
- 26:14Speaker 1: and now I'm including Matt Jones, a rookie Matt Jones,
- 26:16Speaker 1: and that I don't think they could open up the
- 26:19Speaker 1: full playbook last year, and I think that made them
- 26:21Speaker 1: easy to defend. But I think that what made him
- 26:23Speaker 1: easy to defend is they had nobody that could run
- 26:25Speaker 1: a route for more than fifteen yards and make a
- 26:27Speaker 1: play like That's why they're easy to defend. You can
- 26:30Speaker 1: put ten guys within ten yards of the line of
- 26:32Speaker 1: scrimmage and defend the page. There's no doubt that that's
- 26:34Speaker 1: why they're easy to defend. There's no doubt that's part
- 26:36Speaker 1: of it. But again, I go back to the signing
- 26:39Speaker 1: at Davante Parker. They're going to run the guy. They
- 26:42Speaker 1: want to be physical and run the ball, and they
- 26:44Speaker 1: had nobody to get down the field, and they had
- 26:46Speaker 1: a rookie quarterback who wasn't overly comfortable throwing it down
- 26:48Speaker 1: the field. Maybe this year, based on what we saw
- 26:51Speaker 1: in the spring, they're planning on throwing it downfield more often,
- 26:54Speaker 1: because he threw a lot of passes downfield this spring.
- 26:59Speaker 1: It's funny that you say that, because there's a tweet
- 27:01Speaker 1: circulating right now from Robert Griffin the Third It says
- 27:05Speaker 1: Mac Jones is most likely to win a ring first
- 27:08Speaker 1: of the rookie quarterbacks who played serious time last year.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Bill Belichick and the Patriots are defensive masterminds and will
- 27:14Speaker 1: out coach other teams, and Mac attack will stretch the
- 27:17Speaker 1: field more after last year. Has his confidence like the
- 27:23Speaker 1: respect that it's people just haven't watched the team for
- 27:27Speaker 1: three years. They haven't. Yeah, So that tweet is circulating
- 27:31Speaker 1: people like, do you do you agree. Do you agree
- 27:32Speaker 1: that MAC will be more confident and they'll stretch the
- 27:35Speaker 1: field more this year? I do that I could agree
- 27:39Speaker 1: with that. I don't know if that makes you like, yeah,
- 27:42Speaker 1: I just want to know who. Robert Griffin the third
- 27:43Speaker 1: talk too over the week really random. He tweeted it
- 27:47Speaker 1: like an hour ago, but it's like circulating and it's
- 27:49Speaker 1: being picked up and what did he see? And then
- 27:51Speaker 1: Tucket It's like but it's like, you know, you go
- 27:55Speaker 1: on these things, and you know there's random stuff you'll
- 27:58Speaker 1: see in an NFL network and they'll have like capsules
- 28:00Speaker 1: of teams, you know, uh, marquee games. You know, the Patriots.
- 28:04Speaker 1: I'm like, what, like, why is that one of their
- 28:07Speaker 1: marquis games? Other people like the Patriots? Well, but you
- 28:10Speaker 1: know who doesn't you know Vegas? You know what the
- 28:14Speaker 1: overunder is eight and a half. I think it's like,
- 28:17Speaker 1: what are they fifty to one to win the super Bowl?
- 28:19Speaker 1: Something like that. I don't know what the super Bowl is,
- 28:21Speaker 1: but they're overunder for wins is eight now. Just just
- 28:23Speaker 1: as a comparison, in nineteen ninety six, they were forty
- 28:26Speaker 1: to one to win the Super Bowl. AFC's pretty good
- 28:29Speaker 1: right now. Too. Um, I think, you know, at least
- 28:32Speaker 1: as far as being predictable. I mean, I think getting
- 28:35Speaker 1: the fullback out that might take some of the predictability
- 28:37Speaker 1: out of the offense. I mean, I just don't think
- 28:39Speaker 1: that predictability was the problem. Yeah, I think talent is
- 28:42Speaker 1: the problem. But I think I think it's But I
- 28:44Speaker 1: think I don't think the last year. But you were
- 28:47Speaker 1: my point, But I'll say that you were because of
- 28:51Speaker 1: your talent. Yeah, and you have the same talent with
- 28:54Speaker 1: Savante Parker. Yeah. No, But I think again, I think
- 28:58Speaker 1: some of these guys that were here last year are
- 29:00Speaker 1: going to be better just because they because they hear
- 29:04Speaker 1: and learn a little. I think that's what RG three,
- 29:06Speaker 1: I guess, was trying to say, Like, with the coaching
- 29:09Speaker 1: staff that's here, he can use what he has to
- 29:12Speaker 1: out coach. This is my point. Coaching staff has gotten weaker.
- 29:16Speaker 1: But nationally, everybody just falls and bows at the altar
- 29:20Speaker 1: of Bill and says everything is great because they have
- 29:23Speaker 1: Bill Belichick. They haven't watched the last three years. Yeah,
- 29:26Speaker 1: I'm convinced of it. Okay, they still think it was
- 29:28Speaker 1: an anomaly. Yeah, like not forcing a punt in two
- 29:32Speaker 1: different games against buffalo, which you like to point out often.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I know it's it's so i can't wait to throw
- 29:38Speaker 1: friends words back. And I'm not disagreeing with you. Doesn't
- 29:42Speaker 1: like Mac Jones doesn't have any faith now that that's
- 29:45Speaker 1: just not fair. I mean honestly that that is, that
- 29:48Speaker 1: is the most unfair drop that we have, and I
- 29:50Speaker 1: will pound it into that. The thing that bumped me
- 29:52Speaker 1: most about the RG three thing was the defensive. That
- 29:57Speaker 1: the defense. You know what he said, really right, Samara,
- 29:59Speaker 1: he could It's not like I'm saying, I don't think
- 30:01Speaker 1: that creative editing. Uh, I'm I'm worried about the day
- 30:11Speaker 1: offense the defense. I'm with you on the offense, and
- 30:13Speaker 1: I know that, like you know, and I get Paul's
- 30:15Speaker 1: point of generally pieces are a lot of the same.
- 30:17Speaker 1: But I also am am firmly with Fred of of
- 30:19Speaker 1: that I think always gets discounted people making strides, if
- 30:22Speaker 1: they weren't that good last year of their name, I
- 30:24Speaker 1: think that gets discoused. So so let's go let's look
- 30:26Speaker 1: at this for a second. So and I know that
- 30:29Speaker 1: you guys aren't necessarily saying there, Let's get back to
- 30:31Speaker 1: Fred's original point of my shows talking about a different offense. Right,
- 30:35Speaker 1: I know, you guys aren't necessarily necessarily saying that. So
- 30:38Speaker 1: let's say they are using a different offense. Well, that
- 30:41Speaker 1: puts all your second year guys back in back in
- 30:43Speaker 1: first year mode because you gotta simply, you know, you
- 30:45Speaker 1: gotta learn, but you gotta learn something different. Right, Well,
- 30:50Speaker 1: I don't know the way. I mean, the way everybody's
- 30:51Speaker 1: talking about it is not like this is the way
- 30:54Speaker 1: we're talking about offense is proof that's what they say. Well,
- 30:59Speaker 1: then there you go. So that's why I think it's
- 31:01Speaker 1: more for the coaches because I think if there's one
- 31:03Speaker 1: thing that I would strongly put in Max's favor is
- 31:06Speaker 1: his aptitude to play the position. Yeah, I didn't see
- 31:09Speaker 1: anything last year other than you know, the occasional struggles
- 31:12Speaker 1: of recognizing pressure. I didn't see things that he looked
- 31:17Speaker 1: mentally overwhelmed. Ever. Yeah, last year. But I think the
- 31:21Speaker 1: thing I'm not with the appallon is just that they
- 31:26Speaker 1: have to change it because the coaches don't know what
- 31:28Speaker 1: they're doing. Like, do you think that if don't know
- 31:30Speaker 1: what they're doing is strong? Well, I would with that offense.
- 31:32Speaker 1: But I'm saying if if McDaniels left and Patricia has
- 31:37Speaker 1: been I'm not saying in this offense, but has been
- 31:39Speaker 1: around this offense long enough. Would you feel more comfortable
- 31:42Speaker 1: if they were just saying, well, Patricia's just going to
- 31:44Speaker 1: take over Josh McDaniel's offense and implement Josh McDaniels offense
- 31:47Speaker 1: if he knew the offense. If you, I mean knowing
- 31:50Speaker 1: what you know now based on I don't know, I
- 31:52Speaker 1: don't know what I wouldn't feel. I wouldn't feel comfortable
- 31:54Speaker 1: with Patricia and Judge under any circumstances the way that
- 31:57Speaker 1: they came in. I don't feel comfortable with them the
- 32:00Speaker 1: new offense. I don't feel comfortable with them running the
- 32:02Speaker 1: old offense. Did you like the old offense? Yes, loved it.
- 32:06Speaker 1: But I think that their offense from say, two thousand
- 32:11Speaker 1: and four ish to twenty eighteen was as productive consistently
- 32:17Speaker 1: as any offense. And it was. But but do you
- 32:19Speaker 1: think because of the talent, Well that's well, yeah, that
- 32:23Speaker 1: offense it had its base fundament, great point, but it
- 32:27Speaker 1: was dictated by its Personnelity's great. It's a great point
- 32:30Speaker 1: that Tamaro makes because I personally thought the offense looked
- 32:34Speaker 1: pretty similar with Castle and with Garoppolo. Those are really
- 32:38Speaker 1: the only two guys that played any length of time
- 32:40Speaker 1: in the offense other than Brady, because you know, Brissette
- 32:43Speaker 1: played like a game that was totally different. Yeah, but
- 32:46Speaker 1: that like that that doesn't count. No, um, I thought.
- 32:50Speaker 1: I think the offense sort of proved that it can be.
- 32:55Speaker 1: It's a really effective system the way that they play offense. Now,
- 32:59Speaker 1: Tamara's point, that might be because of the talent. Yeah,
- 33:02Speaker 1: you know, maybe the offense is nothing special, and you know,
- 33:05Speaker 1: the talent made it look better than it was. I
- 33:07Speaker 1: don't know, maybe maybe that is right. Look over the years,
- 33:11Speaker 1: you know, they they went through different phases with different personnel. Yes,
- 33:15Speaker 1: and too tight end, too tighten, you know, like Hernandez,
- 33:19Speaker 1: we saw things we hadn't seen before. Randy Moss comes in.
- 33:23Speaker 1: We saw things we hadn't seen before. Yeah, you're right,
- 33:25Speaker 1: you know absolutely. I wonder what they did last year.
- 33:28Speaker 1: I'd love to just hear, like, like, you got a
- 33:30Speaker 1: rookie quarterback coming in, You've got a bunch of new
- 33:32Speaker 1: offensive pieces. What was the philosophy last year? You w
- 33:36Speaker 1: talking about simplifying Now, I mean, did we simplify for
- 33:39Speaker 1: Cam Newton. Did we simplify for Mac Jones as a rookie?
- 33:42Speaker 1: You know? Like like those are some of my questions
- 33:45Speaker 1: of why now you know? And I know we're talking
- 33:48Speaker 1: about all the different points of it, but shouldn't like
- 33:50Speaker 1: this kind of philosophical we're making it easier than last year.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Like that just seems to make more sense to me.
- 33:56Speaker 1: What did they do last year? Did they did? They
- 33:57Speaker 1: just got to take the Brady offense and say not
- 34:00Speaker 1: here anymore? This is Josh. Oh. I know, I know
- 34:02Speaker 1: we're all gonna blame Josh for everything now Josh McDaniel's fault.
- 34:06Speaker 1: But but but realistically, what you know, what was Josh's philosophy?
- 34:09Speaker 1: And how do you how do you get transit? Because
- 34:10Speaker 1: he had to know that that Cam Newton and Mac
- 34:12Speaker 1: Jones weren't going to walk in here and pick up everything.
- 34:14Speaker 1: I'm sure he took steps to you know, but did
- 34:16Speaker 1: not go far enough. Like is that what they're trying
- 34:18Speaker 1: to tell us now? Um, there should have been changes
- 34:21Speaker 1: last year, and I don't feel like we really noticed
- 34:24Speaker 1: any changes last year. It felt like the same offense.
- 34:25Speaker 1: I feel like it's going to seem like the same officer.
- 34:27Speaker 1: But I just want to know if they are changing things,
- 34:29Speaker 1: who is the architect who's making those decisions, who's making
- 34:34Speaker 1: the decision to change it? Yeah, Bill, and what is
- 34:37Speaker 1: and what the changes are? What they're changing it too? Yeah,
- 34:40Speaker 1: the architect of what they're changing it too. Yeah, based
- 34:43Speaker 1: on what they were talking about this morning, I think
- 34:45Speaker 1: they're based on en off of current in Phil Perry
- 34:47Speaker 1: the architect with chef Shan No. I know, but like
- 34:51Speaker 1: that that Shannahan office. So Bill is saying we're taking
- 34:55Speaker 1: their office. If this is true, we're taking their offense
- 34:57Speaker 1: and we're adopting its principles. And I'm not necessarily saying
- 35:00Speaker 1: that's that's right, but they are changing. I think they
- 35:03Speaker 1: are changing the offense. I think that I've read that
- 35:06Speaker 1: enough with Reese, with Phil Perry, with time. I've read
- 35:09Speaker 1: enough illusions in Kendrick Bourne when he talked to Mike
- 35:13Speaker 1: Reece about some of the terminology, and I think they're
- 35:16Speaker 1: you don't just change the names of place, right, Like,
- 35:19Speaker 1: that's not really worth it to change all your terminology
- 35:23Speaker 1: to run the same play. That doesn't make sense. So
- 35:25Speaker 1: if you're changing terminology and streamlining things, you're making some changes. Now.
- 35:29Speaker 1: I don't know if that's a wholesale Like, like I said,
- 35:32Speaker 1: take the whole offense that you knew last year, throw
- 35:34Speaker 1: that all away. We're gonna use this whole different offense.
- 35:37Speaker 1: I don't know that that's just what doesn't pass the
- 35:39Speaker 1: smell test. To me, it doesn't pass the smell test.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Bill has been aware of the Shanahan wide zone, that
- 35:44Speaker 1: whole system forever. Why right now would he be like,
- 35:48Speaker 1: let's just do what they're doing. Well, Like, it just
- 35:49Speaker 1: seems like not anything he would ever do, like waving
- 35:52Speaker 1: the white flag, Like we just should do what they
- 35:54Speaker 1: do because you don't have guys that you feel comfortable
- 35:57Speaker 1: running the offense and the way it was, and maybe
- 35:59Speaker 1: these guys are more familiar with that stuff. It's more
- 36:02Speaker 1: in some way that sound like something he would do.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Would he be like, no, we're gonna keep doing what
- 36:09Speaker 1: I would say, yes and no, I would say it
- 36:12Speaker 1: changing things to you know, to figure out some different
- 36:15Speaker 1: way of doing something. Definitely sounds a lot like Bill,
- 36:18Speaker 1: would you And this is a phrase that they use
- 36:21Speaker 1: this morning generally, you know, like Bill and the Patriots
- 36:24Speaker 1: have always been one of those teams when teams are
- 36:26Speaker 1: doing X, they're going to do why, you know, teams
- 36:29Speaker 1: are starting to go lighter in the box. We're gonna
- 36:32Speaker 1: go two tight ends and pound the ball, you know,
- 36:34Speaker 1: stuff like that. This is more of teams are zagging,
- 36:39Speaker 1: so we're gonna zag too. They're changing the offense more
- 36:42Speaker 1: to what a lot of other teams in the league
- 36:43Speaker 1: are having a lot of success giving in. They're sort
- 36:45Speaker 1: of giving in to what works and it I don't Again,
- 36:50Speaker 1: I am not the All twenty two guy. I am
- 36:52Speaker 1: not the expert on these offenses. But listening to Ted
- 36:55Speaker 1: Johnson talk about this, a former NFL linebacker who probably
- 36:59Speaker 1: knows you know, what comes, what goes into various systems,
- 37:04Speaker 1: talks about that offense. So it's very easy to run,
- 37:06Speaker 1: it's very easy to operate the Shanahan On the Shanahan offense,
- 37:10Speaker 1: he called it dummy proof for quarterbacks. Yeah, well we'll see.
- 37:16Speaker 1: I mean, to me, that's not taking advantage of Mac Jones'
- 37:20Speaker 1: best trait, which is his mind, right, And why would
- 37:23Speaker 1: you want to dummy proof something for somebody like that? Well,
- 37:26Speaker 1: I also would say, why would you want to do
- 37:28Speaker 1: that in year two when you would be better, Like
- 37:32Speaker 1: you'd have that offense and you'd have an offense of
- 37:34Speaker 1: a bunch of guys building right now you're starting back
- 37:38Speaker 1: at square one. Yeah, so I don't know, eight five
- 37:41Speaker 1: five Pats five hundred is the eighth ticket hutline eight
- 37:44Speaker 1: five five Pats five hundred. Web radio at Patriots dot
- 37:46Speaker 1: com is the email address, and less you're allowing Mac
- 37:51Speaker 1: Jones to do what he wants to do and maybe
- 37:53Speaker 1: just running sort of like Jones is the architect, right,
- 37:56Speaker 1: Maybe it's well, it would go to like Alabama off
- 38:00Speaker 1: which is what we saw in the spring with with
- 38:02Speaker 1: Mac Jones was doing everything. So that was on the
- 38:06Speaker 1: end of Robert Griffin's tweet, he says roll tide levels
- 38:10Speaker 1: of offense for Mac Jones. Well, yeah, well that he's
- 38:13Speaker 1: talking about throwing stretching the field would be touchdown passes
- 38:19Speaker 1: to you know, guys that are right wide open playing
- 38:22Speaker 1: against Sonny's Kyle Washalls. I'll say, I really think that
- 38:26Speaker 1: the RPO thing more your your side of the street
- 38:31Speaker 1: of not not like trying to scheme guys open. It's
- 38:34Speaker 1: you know, it's about letting the quarterback make the read,
- 38:36Speaker 1: put them in a no win situation, and then that's
- 38:38Speaker 1: who the ball goes to. It's you know, not as reliant,
- 38:41Speaker 1: you know, as old guys. Got to win right off
- 38:43Speaker 1: the line, and we need, you know, explosive weapons. We
- 38:45Speaker 1: need to win with scheme and that RPOs talent, scheme,
- 38:48Speaker 1: more scheme. All right, eight five, five past five hundred.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Let's get to the phones. They're stacking up Melvin's and Tennessee.
- 38:55Speaker 1: What's up? Hey, Hey, I got no question, Paul. I'm
- 39:01Speaker 1: sure you'll be able to big this up. But when
- 39:05Speaker 1: Deon Sanders went from the forty nine to the Cowboys exactly, like,
- 39:10Speaker 1: how did that happen? And why did the forty nine
- 39:13Speaker 1: ers allowed him to get to that team? I think
- 39:17Speaker 1: it was a free agent. How money issued could have
- 39:19Speaker 1: a young guy because I think both of those teams
- 39:21Speaker 1: were championship caliber. I think at that time, Wow, I
- 39:24Speaker 1: think it was free I mean, I don't have that
- 39:26Speaker 1: answer off the top of my head, but I think
- 39:28Speaker 1: it was just free agency. I was early days of
- 39:30Speaker 1: free agency. Yeah, right, as far as I remember, the
- 39:33Speaker 1: early to mid nineties, that's around the time that free
- 39:36Speaker 1: agency kicked in. Yep. Yeah, But I don't I mean, Melvin,
- 39:40Speaker 1: I don't want to pretend I don't have the answer
- 39:42Speaker 1: for you off the top of my head, I don't know,
- 39:45Speaker 1: I got you. And when, well, when he did make
- 39:48Speaker 1: that trade, was he as good as when or better
- 39:51Speaker 1: when Rivers had made his way to New England? Like
- 39:55Speaker 1: who was better doing that time? Yeah? When when Dion
- 39:58Speaker 1: was moving back and forth, he was at higher level
- 40:00Speaker 1: because remember he also returned kicks and we but we
- 40:02Speaker 1: got Revas two at the end. I mean, Rivers was
- 40:04Speaker 1: really good in fourteen, but we got him at the
- 40:06Speaker 1: end of his career. Oh yeah, we did. Sanders was
- 40:08Speaker 1: still in his prime. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he like changed
- 40:12Speaker 1: the dynamic of that NFC when he was popping around
- 40:15Speaker 1: to Dallas and the San Francisco. I mean it was
- 40:17Speaker 1: like and whatever he was on one yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 40:22Speaker 1: he was all right, thanks Melvin. Yeah, I mean Dion
- 40:26Speaker 1: could he could probably have played any position. He was like,
- 40:31Speaker 1: you know, Bo Jackson type athlete, you know, whereas Revis
- 40:35Speaker 1: is a cornerback, he's in the ultimate cornerback. Yeah, you know,
- 40:39Speaker 1: And but that's all he did. And plus it was like,
- 40:42Speaker 1: I mean, not to downplay Revis is off the field
- 40:45Speaker 1: kind of personality, but I mean Dion Sanders is like,
- 40:49Speaker 1: it's you know, yeah, what player could remake a whole
- 40:52Speaker 1: defense just by signing him. I mean, he's one of
- 40:54Speaker 1: a handful that that did it. He was amazing, amazing. Uh,
- 40:58Speaker 1: spe Is and Fresno, what's up to speak, Paul? I
- 41:02Speaker 1: stole your line about you know that you say have
- 41:04Speaker 1: a year about thanksgiving him flip flops yesterday and it
- 41:07Speaker 1: got some smiles from the families. I wanted to say,
- 41:09Speaker 1: thank Yeah, that's actually a Matt no socks line. I
- 41:12Speaker 1: stole it from him fourth of July as thanks Thanksgiving
- 41:15Speaker 1: and flip flops with a barbecue. Yeah, thanksgiving him flip flops.
- 41:18Speaker 1: It's a great day. Interesting, guys, have any good food?
- 41:24Speaker 1: I had um bourbon U steak tips and turkey tips.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Sounds good. Yeah, turkey too. Yeah. Yeah. Like I'm looking
- 41:37Speaker 1: at Dion's like career stats, like he went ninety you know,
- 41:40Speaker 1: he went to ninety four to San Francisco, ninety five
- 41:43Speaker 1: to Dallas like that was you know, he played until
- 41:46Speaker 1: two thousand, so he was right in his prime when
- 41:48Speaker 1: he was going back and forth from the Niners. He
- 41:51Speaker 1: only spent one year with the Niners and they won,
- 41:53Speaker 1: They won it all, and then he went to Dallas
- 41:56Speaker 1: for the next few years they wanted all the first
- 41:58Speaker 1: year that he was in Dallas, that was the year
- 42:00Speaker 1: I remember most of that was such a heated rivalry
- 42:03Speaker 1: and he was just the difference. It was like whatever
- 42:05Speaker 1: team he picked to go to, oh he actually it's played.
- 42:07Speaker 1: It's funny. He missed three full seasons. He played with
- 42:10Speaker 1: Washington in two thousand, one of the original dream teams
- 42:13Speaker 1: Fred rimmer Um, and then he was out of football
- 42:17Speaker 1: and oh one, two and three, and then played with
- 42:19Speaker 1: Baltimore and four and five. I forgot about you, forget
- 42:23Speaker 1: all about remember five interceptions in those seasons. Hijack your
- 42:30Speaker 1: call here nine. Obviously I could listen to you guys
- 42:34Speaker 1: all day, but I have Mac on the mind, like
- 42:39Speaker 1: because we're talking about him earlier, just hoping he's he's
- 42:43Speaker 1: the guy. Like now we see that this year that
- 42:46Speaker 1: he's worth the draft status. He's a franchise quarterback. And
- 42:50Speaker 1: it got me thinking, let's just say, because I don't
- 42:52Speaker 1: think this is parfench, let's just say he ends up
- 42:55Speaker 1: being below average this year and we're screwed. I'm wondering
- 42:59Speaker 1: what would you need to get from other guys to
- 43:02Speaker 1: still feel optimistic about the future, Like would it be
- 43:04Speaker 1: enough if bar more strange this about other rookie shows
- 43:08Speaker 1: you their special movie, pro Bowl caliber, would that make
- 43:11Speaker 1: up for what the future could be if Mac ends
- 43:13Speaker 1: up laying an egg? Well, I mean, I don't think
- 43:15Speaker 1: there's anything that made me feel good if he was.
- 43:18Speaker 1: I agree, you know, like, like you said, all those
- 43:20Speaker 1: things could happen, But the main thing on your mind
- 43:23Speaker 1: is what are we going to do a quarter? You
- 43:24Speaker 1: can't win it allay? Is this gonna is this an
- 43:26Speaker 1: an anomaly? Will he get better in year three? Or
- 43:29Speaker 1: do we need to start looking again? That's gonna be
- 43:31Speaker 1: on everyone's mind. Yeah, exactly, exactly, And I was I
- 43:35Speaker 1: was thinking if you reverse the questions, like if Mac
- 43:38Speaker 1: looks great, what would have to go wrong in other
- 43:41Speaker 1: players development to negate your optimism. I'm like, I struggle
- 43:45Speaker 1: because I think I almost feel like if if as
- 43:49Speaker 1: Mac goes, still goes to the future, Like, yeah, if
- 43:51Speaker 1: Mac is great and the team isn't great around him,
- 43:54Speaker 1: I think I'd feel a lot better than the other
- 43:55Speaker 1: way around. Yeah, especially if it's if if Ma's great
- 43:59Speaker 1: and the offense is good and it's the defense that
- 44:02Speaker 1: let you down, Okay, we'll fix the defense. Yeah, you know.
- 44:05Speaker 1: But if it's the other, we'll get him some pieces
- 44:07Speaker 1: around him on offense to make him He can obviously
- 44:10Speaker 1: do it with average talent. If we can get him
- 44:12Speaker 1: better than average talent, we got something there. Yeah, that's
- 44:15Speaker 1: why I would look at him. If he had a
- 44:17Speaker 1: really good year and they would just average as a team,
- 44:20Speaker 1: I would I would look at that as a extremely
- 44:22Speaker 1: successful sea And that's I don't know if I don't
- 44:24Speaker 1: know if it's so much as a counter argument to
- 44:27Speaker 1: Mike's concern, like vocalizing on the defense, but the way
- 44:31Speaker 1: that Fred just put it now is perfect. Like if
- 44:34Speaker 1: Mac is really good and the offense is okay and
- 44:36Speaker 1: the problem is the defense, that's the year I want
- 44:39Speaker 1: to live with, rather than a year where the offense
- 44:43Speaker 1: is showing and maybe revealing max fundamental flaws. Yeah, because yeah,
- 44:48Speaker 1: I mean you think about it. You know. We always say, oh,
- 44:50Speaker 1: you know, cornerbacks on an island, they are when they're playing.
- 44:53Speaker 1: But there's a lot of cornerbacks on the team. You
- 44:56Speaker 1: only have one quarterback, you know, and if that guy's
- 44:58Speaker 1: not playing well, you got problems. You need to find
- 45:01Speaker 1: another guy. And it's not that easy, no, And it
- 45:05Speaker 1: feels like you guys are talking about ten or ten
- 45:08Speaker 1: and eleven when you had I mean, obviously that's Brady
- 45:11Speaker 1: and but you didn't really have a defense. And they
- 45:13Speaker 1: still made it to the super Bowl on the strength
- 45:16Speaker 1: of Tom Brady and and how good the offense was.
- 45:18Speaker 1: But I you know, it's just how far off is
- 45:21Speaker 1: the defense. I just I don't see the playmakers seas
- 45:25Speaker 1: to emerge and make plays, because right now it feels
- 45:28Speaker 1: like that's what the season's going to be. To me,
- 45:30Speaker 1: it's it's an offensive minded league now, which is true.
- 45:33Speaker 1: And that's and that's why I agree with you guys,
- 45:35Speaker 1: like you need the quarterback, you need to have that
- 45:37Speaker 1: piece of it. But right and when I need to
- 45:39Speaker 1: make stops. And when I when I say that Mac
- 45:42Speaker 1: played great, I don't mean like they lost every game
- 45:45Speaker 1: forty two to thirty eight and you know they scored
- 45:48Speaker 1: seventeen in the fourth quarter like that to me, like
- 45:51Speaker 1: you know it when you see it, you know, like
- 45:54Speaker 1: Mac played really well. Mac. You know, they went toe
- 45:56Speaker 1: to toe and the other team had the ball last
- 45:59Speaker 1: ye know, that's playing great and losing. You know, he's
- 46:03Speaker 1: not losing the games, you know, I mean, he's not
- 46:05Speaker 1: he's not getting shout out in the first half the
- 46:07Speaker 1: way he did down the stretch of all the games
- 46:09Speaker 1: last year, and when he's got a chance to make
- 46:12Speaker 1: something happen, Like there was a lot, a lot of
- 46:13Speaker 1: that sort of happened. Like I even saw something over
- 46:16Speaker 1: the weekend on Twitter, you know, lost in the debacle
- 46:19Speaker 1: that was the playoff loss in Buffalo was Mac had
- 46:23Speaker 1: had a lot of really good players. I'm like, really, really,
- 46:25Speaker 1: like really that this is what this is what we're doing,
- 46:28Speaker 1: Like and they and they show him scrambling and it
- 46:30Speaker 1: was a great play, Like he scrambled out of the
- 46:31Speaker 1: pocket on the first drive and made a great third
- 46:34Speaker 1: down completion and route is putting no points on the
- 46:37Speaker 1: board in the first three quarters of the game. Like
- 46:39Speaker 1: you can't ignore that. You can't tell me he played
- 46:41Speaker 1: great that game. Yeah, Like, how many people have you heard?
- 46:45Speaker 1: Mac wasn't the problem that night. He wasn't the with
- 46:48Speaker 1: a capital tea problem, but he was a problem the
- 46:51Speaker 1: offense didn't score and that's his job. Yeah, and that
- 46:54Speaker 1: play that was a terrible but with a terrible fast
- 46:58Speaker 1: protection he gets lushed out of the pocket, Like that's
- 47:01Speaker 1: never how the play is supposed to look, I know,
- 47:03Speaker 1: but I'll give him for doing stuff that is not
- 47:05Speaker 1: necessarily considered. That's not his strength. And he made he
- 47:09Speaker 1: did make a couple of really nice plays on that
- 47:11Speaker 1: first drive, but I'm sorry. Bottom line is, you're well
- 47:14Speaker 1: into the second half of that game before you even
- 47:16Speaker 1: put any points on the board. I can't tell you
- 47:19Speaker 1: you weren't the problem. Just like Indianapolis, you know, like
- 47:23Speaker 1: the first Buffalo game, I would say at least they
- 47:27Speaker 1: sort of counterpunched. They got they got behind, but they
- 47:30Speaker 1: kept counterpunching and kept making Buffalo answer. They kept getting
- 47:34Speaker 1: within a score and forcing Buffalo to regain the two
- 47:37Speaker 1: score lead. The you know, the Colts game, the Dolphins
- 47:41Speaker 1: game down there, the Buffalo playoff game. It was the
- 47:44Speaker 1: other team got a three score lead and that was game.
- 47:46Speaker 1: You know, like that was it. You know, a couple
- 47:48Speaker 1: some window dressing scores at the end made it look
- 47:50Speaker 1: closer than it was, but it really wasn't. Let's go
- 47:54Speaker 1: to Rashad in Baltimore. What's uphad? They what's up with
- 47:59Speaker 1: up um? First, I definitely gotta agree with you call.
- 48:04Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, I don't you know, the defense
- 48:07Speaker 1: was the issue, but it was times where you know,
- 48:10Speaker 1: the like the offense wasn't putting up points like in general, right,
- 48:15Speaker 1: and that that that leads me to one of my things.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Because Mac was a rookie last year. So it's like
- 48:23Speaker 1: to me, like I don't really want to give him
- 48:25Speaker 1: that many excuses this year. So like if if if
- 48:28Speaker 1: I can see three things for him this year, at
- 48:31Speaker 1: least one of them three at least thirty touchdowns, four
- 48:35Speaker 1: thousand passing yards, or he can have a game winning
- 48:39Speaker 1: come back like like I mean maybe like the Texans game,
- 48:42Speaker 1: but not something like like like a I don't know,
- 48:46Speaker 1: like a real comeback against like like a quality team,
- 48:48Speaker 1: because it was like games you know, like and you
- 48:51Speaker 1: just said last season, once we went down ten, in
- 48:54Speaker 1: my mind it was open because I didn't really think
- 48:58Speaker 1: we could get a stop score gets stopped the score.
- 49:02Speaker 1: It was it was rare that I don't even at
- 49:05Speaker 1: all I agree, I think in those games and I
- 49:10Speaker 1: don't hold me I might miss one, but I don't
- 49:12Speaker 1: believe the Patriots ever had the ball down a score
- 49:16Speaker 1: in any of those games with a chance. Yeah. In
- 49:19Speaker 1: other words, like we have the ball here it is Mac.
- 49:21Speaker 1: I don't think Mac ever got that opportunity in those games,
- 49:24Speaker 1: not the Tampa game. We didn't have that chance. I'm
- 49:27Speaker 1: talking about down the stretch when they didn't do any points.
- 49:29Speaker 1: I don't have any problem with the way he played
- 49:31Speaker 1: against Tampa. I thought he played well that night against
- 49:33Speaker 1: against the Bucks. I'm talking about getting shot out for
- 49:36Speaker 1: you know, two and a half quarters and then making
- 49:38Speaker 1: a furious rally when the game is over, right, Like
- 49:40Speaker 1: that's plastic yards, that's like Gardner Minshew's stats, and it's
- 49:43Speaker 1: all in. It's in in comparison to the games where
- 49:45Speaker 1: they just rolled and it was never even in question, right,
- 49:48Speaker 1: Like it just looks worse, you know, like even the
- 49:52Speaker 1: Dallas game, he throws the pick six, he comes back
- 49:54Speaker 1: and throws the bamb to Bourne like early in the year,
- 49:57Speaker 1: and then they end up losing in overtime. You know,
- 49:59Speaker 1: they had opportunities. But like, I'd have no problems with
- 50:01Speaker 1: his specific performance and those those games early, the Dallas
- 50:05Speaker 1: and Tampa games, I thought he played well. He did
- 50:08Speaker 1: well enough to win those games, you know, as a rookie,
- 50:10Speaker 1: you know, playing in this what fourth and sixth game?
- 50:13Speaker 1: Maybe right, But down the stretch I thought he tailed
- 50:16Speaker 1: off all right, thanks to go ahead, just one more thing,
- 50:21Speaker 1: uh if um, what's the name? Just just a standout
- 50:24Speaker 1: somebody who can take the next step on the defense.
- 50:27Speaker 1: I'm gonna say Kyle Dugger. Like, if we're looking somebody
- 50:30Speaker 1: take the next step, may be an All Pro or
- 50:32Speaker 1: something like that, that's the guy I'm looking to. Yeah,
- 50:35Speaker 1: that's a good one. Yeah, I hope. So I just wonder.
- 50:38Speaker 1: I wonder what it looks like and how much of
- 50:40Speaker 1: an impact that has, because that will be exciting and
- 50:43Speaker 1: certainly I know he's getting a lot of I guess
- 50:46Speaker 1: press with some of people wrote these things. Who's going
- 50:48Speaker 1: to be the breakout he gets? Well, we're also reading that,
- 50:51Speaker 1: you know, not just the Patriots but league why that
- 50:54Speaker 1: type of player at that position is becoming more and
- 50:57Speaker 1: more important in today's n FELL. You know, that versatile
- 51:02Speaker 1: safety that can play down the box, do a little coverage, versatile,
- 51:06Speaker 1: a little bit bigger, stronger, you know, like, what do
- 51:09Speaker 1: you like, how can he help you against Josh Allen?
- 51:11Speaker 1: I mean, this is just a point for debate, but
- 51:13Speaker 1: that's you know, like we talk about the Buffalo games
- 51:16Speaker 1: where they didn't really have any answers, and you know,
- 51:18Speaker 1: what are the answers to that, like how finally brought
- 51:21Speaker 1: that up? I had? That was one of my astpfws
- 51:23Speaker 1: this week, one of the one of the mail bags.
- 51:24Speaker 1: And you know, it's like what do they need to
- 51:26Speaker 1: do to de throw in Buffalo? And it's like, you know,
- 51:30Speaker 1: obviously you get the front seven's got to do a
- 51:32Speaker 1: better job of containing Josh Allen. You know, okay, great,
- 51:38Speaker 1: no one leaves this room until we figure that out.
- 51:40Speaker 1: You know, it's like a Snicker's commercial, like what do
- 51:43Speaker 1: you do? Like how do you? How do you do that?
- 51:45Speaker 1: And it's not a problem that's unique to the Patriots.
- 51:50Speaker 1: The league is trying to figure out how to deal
- 51:51Speaker 1: with some of those quarterbacks. Um and you know as
- 51:55Speaker 1: opposed to some of those quarterbacks. You caught him on
- 51:58Speaker 1: a bad day, you know, which can happen everybody. Maholmes
- 52:01Speaker 1: has bad days, just like Josh Allen has bad days.
- 52:03Speaker 1: You know, they lost a Jacksonville right you know, and
- 52:06Speaker 1: they couldn't even score a touchdown. Brady had a bad
- 52:08Speaker 1: day against us. You know that the Patriots scored fifty
- 52:11Speaker 1: against Jacksonville Colt School. I mean the Bill scored six.
- 52:14Speaker 1: You know, so you can have a bad day against anybody.
- 52:17Speaker 1: But what do you do if he didn't have a
- 52:19Speaker 1: bad day? How do I don't know. I don't know exactly.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Do your point, Mike, if you want to play extra safeties,
- 52:26Speaker 1: how does that help you contain Josh Allen? I'm not
- 52:30Speaker 1: sure it does. Like what's the tangible Kyle Dugger breakout year?
- 52:34Speaker 1: What does that mean for the Patriots defense? That they
- 52:36Speaker 1: were excellent in the middle of the field. I just
- 52:40Speaker 1: I and I do think you're going to see those
- 52:42Speaker 1: guys like Peppers and maybe Dugger, maybe Phillips, you know,
- 52:45Speaker 1: just serving as hybrid linebackers. But I don't know. Again,
- 52:48Speaker 1: it's Mike's point. I don't know what that does exactly.
- 52:51Speaker 1: I think just to me, we've talked about it before.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Speed on defense, but it's not it's speed from all
- 52:58Speaker 1: areas of the defense, you know, Because that's the problem
- 53:00Speaker 1: with Josh Allen is the play can come from anywhere,
- 53:04Speaker 1: you know, and you gotta be ready for him to run.
- 53:07Speaker 1: You've got to be ready for him to pass, you know,
- 53:10Speaker 1: And that means speed, you know. I mean, I'm trying
- 53:14Speaker 1: to think of high impact, strong safeties over the years,
- 53:17Speaker 1: and I mean Rodney Harrison just automatically kind of comes
- 53:20Speaker 1: to mind of the impact that he was able to
- 53:23Speaker 1: have on you know, every game pretty much. But he
- 53:25Speaker 1: was so versatile, had such a physical presence to his game.
- 53:30Speaker 1: I just don't know if if guys can still make
- 53:32Speaker 1: that same kind of impact, especially when they're going to
- 53:34Speaker 1: be playing multiple strong safeties, Like you know, how much
- 53:37Speaker 1: is Peppers and Phillips. Is that going to eat into
- 53:40Speaker 1: what Dougger's doing. I mean, he could certainly still be
- 53:42Speaker 1: a very valuable player playing a variety of roles, but
- 53:44Speaker 1: I just you know, couldn't Would an Ed Reid be
- 53:47Speaker 1: more valuable than a Rodney Harrison? I know, you know,
- 53:50Speaker 1: it's it's kind of apples oranges, But you know, in
- 53:52Speaker 1: terms of what Ed Reid could do for a defense,
- 53:54Speaker 1: in terms of the back end, in terms of pass coverage,
- 53:56Speaker 1: like you know, is that what you would rather have
- 53:59Speaker 1: right now? In this lead where you have a guy
- 54:00Speaker 1: at the back end with range that can say, all right,
- 54:03Speaker 1: they might get us with the underneath stuff, but we
- 54:05Speaker 1: got a guy in the back end of the summer.
- 54:06Speaker 1: But you have a guy as good as Ed Reid,
- 54:08Speaker 1: He'll help any defense, right you know? Oh yeah, But
- 54:12Speaker 1: then like all right, then counter that with we've got
- 54:14Speaker 1: Rodney Harrison, that we got the best in the in
- 54:16Speaker 1: the box safety for the today's game. Whatever that means.
- 54:19Speaker 1: You know, what would you rather have right now? And
- 54:21Speaker 1: I kind of feel like I would lean towards the
- 54:24Speaker 1: back end guy, the mccordy maybe in his prime ish
- 54:27Speaker 1: kind of guy, you know, rather than Hey, we got
- 54:29Speaker 1: a few great strong safeties who kind of lock up
- 54:31Speaker 1: their other team's tight ends. But it's like Pausa's, it's
- 54:35Speaker 1: the downfield passing game that the big plays that that
- 54:37Speaker 1: really do so much of the damage. Now, I don't know,
- 54:40Speaker 1: we'll see what it looks like for Doug Todd's in
- 54:42Speaker 1: North Carolina. Hate Todd. Hey, my son really wanted to
- 54:47Speaker 1: go to five guys and hard to say no drug guys, Samara,
- 54:52Speaker 1: But a word of warning, get your guys. If you
- 54:56Speaker 1: get that summer flu, oh, it'll put you on your
- 54:58Speaker 1: butt there you might be with, Yeah, I see what's
- 55:01Speaker 1: going through this the DJ. I finally figured out what
- 55:04Speaker 1: bothers me about shim on that other channel. Who is
- 55:09Speaker 1: who this person is? Shime? Shime Like, I don't mean
- 55:12Speaker 1: I mean no disrespect. I don't know who we're even
- 55:15Speaker 1: talking about Matt. Matt knows he's a guy. Is he is?
- 55:18Speaker 1: He Andy's news uh sidekick. He's not only like he's
- 55:22Speaker 1: not like on air, No, but they do a podcast together.
- 55:26Speaker 1: He's on the podcast and he does a podcast with Fitzy.
- 55:28Speaker 1: That's the podcast that I don't know it was with
- 55:30Speaker 1: Andy and fitz. No, he used to do it with
- 55:32Speaker 1: that other guy, Sean Connery. What he used to do
- 55:34Speaker 1: it with, Hanim Hannibal Hannibal. Yes, I'm Hannibal left. Yeah,
- 55:38Speaker 1: and now he does it with Fitzy kind of. Oh so,
- 55:43Speaker 1: then who's Shime? I'm back to shine mattz. Shime is
- 55:47Speaker 1: the producer that they let talk on the air and
- 55:49Speaker 1: occasionally do podcast with. He's a producer for which show
- 55:53Speaker 1: he was Dale's producer. I don't know what he does Dale.
- 55:56Speaker 1: That was like forty years ago. I guess. I guess
- 56:00Speaker 1: we've proven, like I'm not trying to disrespect anybody, Like
- 56:04Speaker 1: everybody's opinion. You know, this guy's opinion is worthless. That
- 56:07Speaker 1: guy's is because he's on the air and that guy isn't.
- 56:10Speaker 1: But he like he's not even on the air. He
- 56:12Speaker 1: hosts the Six Rings pod with Andy Hard. Okay, so
- 56:15Speaker 1: it does. He is Andy's sidekick. Yeah, I could just
- 56:19Speaker 1: tell you I've been on the Six Rings podcast and
- 56:21Speaker 1: that guy wasn't on it. Well, maybe he was on vacation.
- 56:24Speaker 1: Maybe yeah, I was with Fitzy and Andy's and yeah
- 56:29Speaker 1: I heard it. But the more often than not, he's
- 56:32Speaker 1: about anyway, So you like, see, no he doesn't know.
- 56:37Speaker 1: I don't. I find that there's a a cult of
- 56:40Speaker 1: the player starting in the younger generation. They're not focused
- 56:45Speaker 1: on the team because he complains what we lost, this, this,
- 56:48Speaker 1: this and this, but he doesn't see how players add
- 56:51Speaker 1: to a team rather than to their individual statistics, and
- 56:55Speaker 1: he doesn't seem to value that. And I'm wondering if
- 56:57Speaker 1: there's a generational gap between some of the newer Paths
- 57:01Speaker 1: fans or the newer football fans in general, and the
- 57:03Speaker 1: older ones where you know, it's we look at it
- 57:06Speaker 1: and we see it's a team game, and we see, yeah,
- 57:08Speaker 1: we had stars, but they played as a team. It
- 57:10Speaker 1: was the coaching, the team effort. Everything worked as a team,
- 57:14Speaker 1: and that's why we won. Really, I think so okay,
- 57:19Speaker 1: Paul never thought that. I think you had the greatest
- 57:21Speaker 1: player who's ever played and you won six titles with them.
- 57:24Speaker 1: They also surgery. They also had a strong middle class
- 57:28Speaker 1: with good and that greatest player who ever played went
- 57:30Speaker 1: to one of the most moribun franchises in all of sport.
- 57:32Speaker 1: And one another one. Wow, I heard they had loaded
- 57:36Speaker 1: with talent, but maybe I was where correct? Talent player? Talent?
- 57:41Speaker 1: What was it, Fred? That one? They were loaded with talent? Right? Correct? Yeah? Team, Hey,
- 57:47Speaker 1: we're all one, Paul. Paul does not agree with the
- 57:50Speaker 1: statement that hard work beats talent. Well, what's the rest
- 57:57Speaker 1: of that, don't don't don't leave out the rest? Right,
- 58:00Speaker 1: hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard, right,
- 58:05Speaker 1: that's different. Now you're talking about lazy talent, Well, that
- 58:08Speaker 1: happens with a lot, that happens. Tom Brady was not lazy. Yeah,
- 58:13Speaker 1: not at all, but that team was until he got
- 58:16Speaker 1: there and installed a new culture. Correct. But I agree
- 58:20Speaker 1: with your assessment, Fred, Tampa was a talented team. Yeah,
- 58:25Speaker 1: that's why they won. Not because they all of a
- 58:27Speaker 1: sudden said one for all, all for one. Here we go.
- 58:30Speaker 1: It's not about the best fifty three, it's the right
- 58:32Speaker 1: fifty three. But I think that's part of it too.
- 58:35Speaker 1: See I don't go all the way to the set.
- 58:38Speaker 1: I mean we were really good at covering kicks. I
- 58:40Speaker 1: think there's a lot of players on the field at
- 58:42Speaker 1: one time, and I think they all one guy can
- 58:44Speaker 1: screw it up, regardless of who your best player is,
- 58:48Speaker 1: you know, Yeah, as long as you're good, you overcome it. Yeah, Oh,
- 58:53Speaker 1: I think that's been When Cam Newton is the quarterback,
- 58:56Speaker 1: it's hard to overcome. Do they not have a team atmosphere?
- 58:58Speaker 1: When Cam Newton was here? It's like they suddenly lost
- 59:01Speaker 1: their culture or was he just not very good? He
- 59:03Speaker 1: wasn't good? There you go. But there's been some good
- 59:07Speaker 1: players strategically use Candidas, been some good players and good
- 59:10Speaker 1: teams that haven't won. I think. I think football is
- 59:13Speaker 1: a That's what I love about football. It takes takes
- 59:16Speaker 1: a team. It does of talent. Right, they have to
- 59:21Speaker 1: play as a team or it can screw It's not
- 59:24Speaker 1: just talent. It's not just talent. That talent. I didn't
- 59:28Speaker 1: play as a team, but in general terms, the more
- 59:30Speaker 1: talented team of course, of course, right, that's all. Yeah,
- 59:34Speaker 1: I'm not telling you you can just be talented and
- 59:36Speaker 1: go out there and say screw you. I'm not going
- 59:38Speaker 1: to throw the ball to you. I'm too good to
- 59:40Speaker 1: throw the ball to Micah, Like, you can't play like
- 59:43Speaker 1: that and win. And you're in the NFL too, there's
- 59:45Speaker 1: but he has some degrees. Let's just pump the brakes
- 59:48Speaker 1: on the whole, like middle class nonsense and like you're
- 59:52Speaker 1: the teams that win in general are really talented. There's
- 59:55Speaker 1: not a lot of like rag tab But that's what
- 59:58Speaker 1: made the two thousand and one Patriots so special. That
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: was kind of a ragtag bunch of guys that came together,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: a bunch of free agents that gels. They were much better,
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: you know, the whole was much better than the sum
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: of the parts. Right, That's what made two thousand and
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: one so special. As we found out they were better
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: than we thought that they had a lot of talent,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: they just we didn't realize it. But in general terms,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: there aren't a lot of title winning teams that don't
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: have like a tremendous amount of talent. True, right in football,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: in any sport really, Yeah, Like it takes talent to win,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: Like to win at that level, you need all of it.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: You need talent and you know, to buy no doubt, Yeah,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: any execution in just those specific moments, just like look
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: like the Rams, Like were the Rams markedly more talented
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: last year than they were in previous years? Or did
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford come in and give them an elite quarterback
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: that put them over the top. Like they were a
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: really good team the last five years with Sean McVeigh. Sure,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: but they became great when they lost Jared Goff and
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: got Matthew Stafford. They became great and they got other
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: things besides Matthew Stafford as well. They went out and
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: spent a lot of money last year on who I mean,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: I would still say like getting well. Obviously Obij got injured,
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: but like I feel like he was a good get
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: at the he helped them. But Obj replaced Robert Woods
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: when he got hurt. They went out and got a
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: guy to replace the guy who got hurt. Yeah, like
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: all the other guys were there, ye right, pretty much? Yeah,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: the only drafting guys they bring in the running back
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Sonny Sonny, the backup running back. Yes, he helped them.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: They traded. They traded for the backup running back that
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: they thought was so valuable they allowed him to go
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: them that they allowed him to leave him free help him.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: He did, he did. You can't deny it didn't deny
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: that he helped him, deny that he had one shred
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: of an impact on their one lost record. I'll deny that. Okay,
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: they would have won the Super Bowl whether he was
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: there or not. Erect or not. Maybe, but they helped
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: helped him win a couple of games down the stretch. No,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: we didn't, Uh, Dana Virginia in Michigan. Hey, Paul, how
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: does someone get appointed to play Tigger at the Everett
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Fourth of July Parade asking for a friend? I don't
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: even know if they have it anymore? Well, they you
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: closed it down. They couldn't, you know, they lost Tigger.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: They couldn't do it anymore. It's like Fred's the guy
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: that goes around like a Disney World and he like
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: mocks the guys that are in the custom grow up.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: What do you do? It's their job? Actors performance their
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: job right. This was like volunteer, volunteer, I would say,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: someone to get it wasn't like you volunteered to go
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: and be one of the mascots at the parade. It
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: was like they went to us because well, I'm not
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: gonna what do you mean they went to Paul your tigger,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: I have no charge. Yeah, it wasn't exactly it was
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: either that or jail time. I mean he had I
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: had a decision to make you. I mean, I mean,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: you know, Winnie theo Who wasn't an option. The po
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: was an option. I would have gone tigger though, because
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: Winnie the Pooh kind of fat. But I did explain
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: I think I explained this to you, like that one
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: of the fathers in my neighborhood, it was heavily involved
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: in a lot of the Everett sort of It's like
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: like Rotary Club, you know, that kind of thing that
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: those kind of you know, charity kind of and he
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: went to the like we all did it my entire neighborhood.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: It was like, you know, you guys come, you know,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: and you know, you guys were walking the parade and
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: you know, you guys throw some costumes on. You'd be
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: some of the mascots and whatever. It wasn't like it
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: was either I did that or I was gonna have
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: to do hard time fred or I'm picking trash on
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: the side of the highway with my orange jumpsuit. I
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: just know myself at that age, i'd be like, yeah, no,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: we were like fourteen fifty. Yeah exactly. Yeah, no, you
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: do you do things to help out, like yeah, like
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: see Mike want to make fun of me just to
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: be like you, but he knows there's nothing really wrong.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: I can't. I just can't because and take out. I'm sorry,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: I can't. I wish MAT's not here for us. Yeah.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: Sound yeah, I would pick Tiger, though I think you're
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: I think you're like fixating on the specific mascot, which
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: to me is completely and totally irrelevant at right. Yeah, costumes, Yeah,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: you wouldn't have been the d y Dolphin. No. Can
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: you imagine if it was like Luke Skywalker, this guy
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: Darth Vader. Oh yeah, well that would be cool. I
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: do that the full costume. Yeah, he won't even say anything.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: He knows that he would do it so much that
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: he can't even say anything back to me. Again, somehow
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: with you, Fred and if you lose, it's going to
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: be you have to wear this tiger costume. Okay. Oh see,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: I'm afraid someone from Everard is going to be like listening,
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: I think this of a certain age and be like
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: I think this tiger costume. By the way, this tiger
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: costumes passed down from year to years. That that is
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: unquestioned nasty. It's like just nasty. Yeah, by the time
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: you got all the way up Broadway, it was nasty. Yeah,
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: all right, and you know usually it's you know, pretty
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: cool on July fourth. Right, Yeah, so we were you
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: a big Winny the Pooh fan growing up. No, no, no,
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: piglet your pig like that? Right? Is that a fat,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: fat joke? Yeah, he's a little guy. It's that a
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: fat joke. He's a little pig. It's cute. Yeah, it
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: didn't would have been a fat It didn't really matter
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: which animal was, I think, but the tiger is the
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: one thing that sticks out. Man. It wouldn't let you
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: dress up like call your Stremski or something like that. No, no,
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: why would that be something that like kids want to
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: interact with on a parade room. You st someone in
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: someone dressed as call call your Stremsky actually on the
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: parade room. Yeah, big big hit with the kids. Yeah,
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: I get that. This Paul Parola addressed is called your
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Srensky smoking a cigarette. I'm surprised that they didn't pay
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: for those autographs. There's no ear, no ear that that's
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: like the depressed parade you stole it from. Uh, let's see,
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: Ryan writes in what's going on to you? Crewe? Ryan
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: from Virginia had a question for Paul Tamara and Alex
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: Well She's not here today and anyone else if they
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: wanted to chime in. Do you think college sports are dead?
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: With Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC, and UCLA and
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: USC in the Big Ten, My interest in college sports
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: is starting to wane, which is horribly sad because I
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: love college football and basketball. Would love to hear your
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: opinions on conference expansion, nil transfer waivers, et cetera. That's
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: a whole different topic. Yeah. Well one, Actually I just
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: saw a tweet go out that said the Big Twelve
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: was in deep discussions air quote to add six PAC
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: twelve schools Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: I don't like this whole realignment thing that's happening with
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: everyone like deciding to jump ship on their conference and
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: go to different ones. One. I think that when you
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: look at the sports obviously beyond football, it's like the
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: idea of a softball team from UCLA having to come
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: all the way over to like Rutgers to play them
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: in softball or baseball or like any of the other
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: Olympic sports. It's like they're not going to get the
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: same funding to get across the country like this. And
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: so it's like, sure, the football team is gonna charter,
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: it doesn't matter. They're going to spend whatever money. But
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: like think about the rest of the sports, Like is
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: the athletic department really gonna be making money? Well, maybe
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: the Big ten should have Big tennies Big ten West
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: and then they just come together for the playoffs. It's
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: going to be a cross country flying but either way,
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: like Big ten West would be trips to like Michigan. Yeah,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: this is like for you usc Tamara's got it exactly right.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: It's the only thing I would disagree with. They'll have
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: plenty of money because of all the money that football
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: is going to be generating. But I do think it's
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: kind of the beginning of the end of why are
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: they doing it because just Big ten's a better conference?
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: Well Big ten with the media rights now I saw
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: something like the Big ten network cable providers charged something
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: like ten cents a month for the Big Ten And
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: now it's going to be like a dollar sixty, Like
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: just with that one move, like the SEC and the
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: Big ten are taking over. Yeah, and the ACC is
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: going to be in trouble. The Big twelve is is
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: going to be in trouble. The Pac twelve, as Tamara
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: just said, probably will be no more. Um, what's I
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: don't think it's a good development. What if we just
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: got rid of conference football and just made it in
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: football and divide it up like you do NFL baseball.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: You know, you have your East West, South North kind
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: of like what what I guess the better game does
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: in a sense of like they built their own schedule. Yeah,
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: but then would it's still be kind of compound, compartmentalized
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: within the areas of the country though a little bit
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: in pros. Yeah, I think that would work. I think too.
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: It's just like that's not helping a school like UCLA
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: and trying to get into the college football playoffs. It's like,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: you just made it worse for yourself. Well, they have
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: only themselves to blame because because like pretty much had
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: a shot at winning the Pac twelve of the year,
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: well like six months ago, they wanted to vote on
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: a new playoff plan. And do you think they should
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: let more teams in, right, and this was going to
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: be an expansion in the PAC twelve and the ACC
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: voted no for an expanded playoff with automatic bids that
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: they would have gotten. Now they will never get those
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: when they when it does, because I think it's going
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: to expand in twenty five maybe. Yeah, you probably know
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: more about this than I do. Yeah, it's it's not immediate, yeah,
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: because they turned it down. But when this current plan,
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: when that contract is up, it will expand and they're
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: not going to get automatic bids. It's just gonna be
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: like four SEC teams and four Big ten teams that
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: will be the playoff. All right, we're gonna take a break.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: We'll have more to talk about when we come back,

- 1:21:05Speaker 1: is Matt Laffe for Putnam Investments, a world of investing.
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: We are patriots, and our standards are a little different.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: We don't just carry the hopes of a city but
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: the hopes of an entire region. For us, no uphill
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: battle is ever too high to climb in. Our favorite
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: ring is the next one. Our job isn't done until
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: the final down is played and everyone knows we gave
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: it our all. We the fans, march forward with the
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: power to do what it takes, just like we've done
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: time and time again. We are the home field advantage.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: Bank of America is proud to be the official bank
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: of the New England Patriots and stand with them as
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: they defy the odds. Copyright twenty twenty, Bank of America Corporation,
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: and now Great Moments in History. I like just watching
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: like a good game, like the Chiefs Chiefs bangles. Don't
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: you like to have something vested? No, it doesn't have
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: to be, but I'd rather have it rather have somethings
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: I was rooting from the homes and borrow to score
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: every possession the other. Yeah, but yes, what I'd rather
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: like been rooting against, you know, like for a team
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: and against another team. Yeah, because that's how you watch
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: games normally. Yeah, but I don't have to have that,
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: like Patriots fans need to find that I watch. I'm
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: gonna I'm gonna give you the nod now you know who. Okay,
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: they'll root against the Rams because they spend too much
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: money and that's not how you do it. So I'll
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: guarantee you when if they lose the Super Bowl, you'll
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: get the Mark Daniels of the world will say, see,
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: that's why you can't win that way. He'll be all
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: over your Twitter. I'm gonna tee it up and say, well,
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: let's see how many they can win without any first
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: round picks for the next two seasons. That'll be mine.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: It is. It doesn't matter that, it doesn't matter. For
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: five years in a row they've been in the playoffs
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: and one games in the playoff windows close. It's the
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: way they've done. It is wrong, good Mike, and that's
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: the way Patriots fans will take. So Fred says he
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: likes the vitriol. Fine, you're allowed to like the vitriol.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: The rest of us who don't like the vitriol should
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: be allowed not to like the vitriol. We just want
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: to watch a good game. I know whoever wins wins
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: that wouldn't care less. That's a week. It doesn't a
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: week sauce. I don't necessarily have a problem with you, Okay,
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: So if you don't agree with Fred, it's I can
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: just see, you know, with his tweet jacket and his
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: his Scotch just you know, oh splendid gins, Oh boy, splendid.
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: That's another great moment from gone but not forgotten. No, yes,
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: splendid contest CHERRYA. I just love what Fred would just
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: turn it all of a sudden and you just go
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: and jump all ugly. I never got to know where
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: it's just like with his tweet jacket and in his
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: Scotch splendid game. Eyes light up a little bit like
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: I was full argument in that and all of a sudden,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: I'm just laughing at him, calling him splendid, all right,
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: as promised Jim McCarty out of Lemonster recording. McCarty Jim McCarty,
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: because we've always been talking about soap was a slot.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: You watch that and uh, soap was a slot has
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: a slot? You put the wafer left over into the slot,
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: so you're always recycling soap. You're never having to throw
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: out that little piece you don't know what to do with.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: So Jim McCarty said it actually won. The concept exists,
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: and he said, I guess it's like am Way. Uh,
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: they have all kinds of cleaning products and he's so
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: we sent us a b box of six bars of soap.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: It's g n H whatever that stands for. And it
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: it has, you know, no markings on the outside to indicate, um,
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: you know it's special. So I'm gonna open up one
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: of the sniff the cork on that. Yeah, So I'm
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: gonna open up one of the bars right now and
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: see what it looks like. This is like one of
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: those YouTube like Ryan's toy reviews, where it's just kids
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: opening toys, soap reviews. Fred is starting a new Yeah,
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: usually a radio, but so it's a bar of soap.
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: But on the top it's got an indentation and it
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: says Soap Saver and engraved on the bar. And so
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: that's where when you get the wafer, you're jamming into
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: this indentation in the top, and uh, it would stay there.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: How do you attach? Do you need to? Like, maybe
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: you gotta wed it a little bit more sense because
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: it's in there. You could really yeah, yeah, because this
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: one seems like it might pop up and then all
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: of a sudden you're wasting. So do you guys want
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: your own bars. Can we get a smell on that?
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: Do not? You don't want to bar you want a
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: bar soap tremara. No, you're looking at me like you know,
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: she looks like she wants to put a nice picture.
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: You don't want a bar of soap save or soap? Okay,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: it's a moore for you for help with you. A
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: lot of different languages here on the back, Matt. You
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: want to barrow soap from it? It's not the language
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: of comics. Fragrant, yeah, fragrant. And we'll put this in
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: the bathroom, in the men's room, so that I've already
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: opened it in the bathroom. You know. The word my
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: wife had for this slope in the slot thing is
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: a depression mindset. During the depression, nobody could like throw
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: anything away right to make sure that everything got used
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: to the last thing. So um, But that is one
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: of my like, you know, idiosyncrasies, like I don't like
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: starting the next thing until I finished the other thing completely,
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: whether it's a book or a movie or anything. No,
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: you know. Acially, dish, yeah, ketchup bottles are annoying, especially
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: dish soap, where you get like like the very bottom
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: and it's like only at the like the bottoms, the
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: dust of it, And I'm like, I can't I just
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: start a new one. Oh, you just put a little
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: water and shake it up and pour it out. Yeah,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: same thing with your shampoo or anything else. A little water,
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: loosen it up a little bit, and zero waste. You
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: got one more use out of it. I think I
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: just don't have the patients. Okay, I don't know what
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: kind of patients you need to put water. It's not
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: a big thing. I just I just start a new one.
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: You might remind me of not having patience. There's this
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: like ad I you know when you watch the same
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: channels a lot, Like my wife watches lawn Order a lot,
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: and it's like on whatever channels, Yeah, and they tend
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: to show the same commercials over and over, and one
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: does one is for this under a bra that doesn't
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: have wires, no wires, And the wan comes on and goes,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: I don't have the time or patience for why are brought?
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: What patience do you? Like? Like? What does the guy
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: who's you're probably that says the guy who's never had
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: to wear a bra, But like, what patience do you
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: need for an under? Why or bra I'm wondering. He's
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: very uncomfortable. Okay, I don't like it. It's uncomfortable. What
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: does that have to do with patience? I guess having
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: to readjust it and deal with it. Okay, all right,
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: continually just the exasperate How do you go with the bro? Yeah,
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: there you go? The bro or the man's eer? Which
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: one was Cramer? His was? Yeah? I thought Cherry's dad
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: was the bro. Do you know about the cups? You
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: get a cups? You gotta pick your teeth. You pick
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: your teeth with the tip at the time too. So anyway,
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: thank you Jim McCarty for sending user mccaddy. Uh this
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: GNH soap save or soap Yeah, they don't really Um,
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: they don't really trump at the soap saving aspect of product.
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: It's just given. It's just given that the indentation is
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: for saving the soap. Could you just kind of take
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: like if you just had a regular bar, you put
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: the old piece on there and just kind of do
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: the same thing. When would that kind of stay if
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: you buy enough pressure and push him together. I don't
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: know what the indentation in the patient would help a
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: little bit. Again, the slot would be even better. Slips
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: out of the slot though, how do you get in there?
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: And really it won't you know, yeah, you gotta welded.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: It won't. Um, but it's good. I mean, you know,
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: this took on a life of its own. It's an
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: invention I had years decades ago. Fred is really turning
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: into an influencer right now. I know. Yeah, Fred's soaper
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: views this. This is UM yet a millionaire. It does
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: say it's UM exclusively from Amway. Yeah, so I don't
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: think we can get around here. No, I don't think
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: you can buy Amway products in the story. You have
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: to order those right. Oh, I don't know. I don't
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: know what Emily is. I don't know. Yeah, is that
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: like short for American Way? No. Mway has been around
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: for a long long time, and it's been a thing
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: where you become an Amway salesperson and oh yeah, you
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: sell your stuff to people. It's a cult kind of
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: like pyramid scheme type, that's what it sounds like. Yeah,
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: but Amway has been forever. What's that? Uh, what's that
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: new one? There's one that does that A lot of
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: pyramid marketing scheme. They've got all kinds of products I'm
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: forgetting what the name is. But we saw in Sharon,
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: like a look like a coffee mary Kay is Mary Kay. Yeah,
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: I love Mary Kay, but that's you know, you become
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: a Mary Kay salesperson. Yeah, looking, god, what is the
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: name of I'm forgetting. But they opened like a look
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: like a coffee shop in Sharon and like all frozen
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: drinks and stuff. But it's all like those products, like
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: they're kind of products. It's not like real coffee. You
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: go in there and you're getting some kind of like
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: protein thing. Really, I wish I could think of. It's
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: right on the tip of my tongue. Herbal life. Herbal life.
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: That's another one. It's a big one. I like my
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: cousin does that one? How do they do it before
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: social media? Like I feel like back in the day
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: of the Avon lady, come over, you'd have a party,
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: but now it's like social media. That's exactly how you're
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: comp in it. You have you'd have tupaware parts. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: my UM sorority sister she like hosts like chosen stuff
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: on like Facebook, and she sells products and so try
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: to use it and sell stuff to your friends all
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: the time, Like it's just well, and that's not where
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: the money is. The money is not just selling the product,
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: but recruiting the person to also become a sales product.
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: So now they're ordering a bunch of stuff from you
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: at a time. Yeah, Or like for me, it's like
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: when people are like, oh, what makeup are you wearing?
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: I'm like Mary Kay. They're like really, and then I'm
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: like yes. So it's like more like a word of
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: mouth thing too. Oh so you sell Mary Kay products?
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: I don't have time, but I just forward them to
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: my sority sister, like here, you can talk to her
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: and she'll help you. But yeah, my mom uses it,
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: my grandma uses it. I use it like I guess
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: once you get on like your set of stuff whatever
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: it might be, product of any kind, that you kind
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: of stick with it. And way is the number one
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: period mid scheme ranked number one, Herbal Life number two?
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: What's number three? Mary new Skin? Mary Kay's number ten
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: on the list should be I'm shocked. Arbon's protein is
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: seriously the best protein I've ever had? What does that mean?
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: What protein? What come to a screech? Well? How do
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: you like? Chicken? Is a protein? Like you for making um?
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: Like shakes and stuff in the morning like way, yeah,
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: but way hurts my jummy. Arbond is that's all Godzilla entered.
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: That's now the funniest line you found in the shop.
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: That hurts my tummy. Um, that hurts my tummy. Arbon
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: is just very like clean and it's dairy free and
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: it's just taste yummy and its tummy feel. That's what
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: this coffee places and sharing. It has all the herbal
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: life stuff. It's all injected with things. You can't just
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: go in there and get a drip coffee with cream.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: It's like, well, you got to get like this super
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: protein powder kind of stuff. And if I had protein
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: coffee for the first time and it was actually good,
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: like instead of like the creamer, the uh, the power
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: protein powder is your creamer. Essentially, he was really good.
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: There you go, all right, you guys have done the impossible.
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: You've kept me quiet. Ye Back to the show. Web
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: Radio Attias dot com is the email address. Matt. Matt says, uh,
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: well listen, Jim McCarty nice enough to send us back
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: of soap my fault. Thanks Jim, I appreciate it. Matt
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: writes in I stubbled, I stubbled but it's really I
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: stumbled I think across your podcast about three months ago
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: and now listen. Uh. I love tuning in each week.
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: Everyone that's hilarious, knowledgeable. I tend to agree with Paul
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: and most things and laugh at his straightforward and no
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: nonsense arguments. I still don't know how nothing Patriots related
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: can be going on and somehow you fill a two
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: hour show, which is why this is the best podcast
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: to listen to. Also, I almost fell off my couch
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: the day Fred told everyone after he eats buffalo wings
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: he lets his dog fingers top five funniest things I've
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: ever heard in my life. Really, we brought that up.
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: You need to live. My friend brought that up again
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: on Tuesday. We had a conversation. Oh, I was listening,
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: not live, but I was listening. I got some some
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: barbecue wings over the weekend, and that immediately came to
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: my mind. Let you let will well Dad, that doesn't
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: even move? Oh my god. Um anyway, uh, he says
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: his question for everyone is I keep hearing great leadership
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: comments from veterans on the Patriots roster. Are they saying
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: that because they have to? They have to because Mac
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: is the quarterback? Or because he actually has those great
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: leadership qualities. I personally think Mac does have those qualities,
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: and I have faith he will lead this team in
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: the future. I think he's really got him. I mean
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: it seems pretty genuine. I mean, I do think that
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: there's a level of people are always going to say
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: our quarterback is doing great and is a great leader,
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: and that's just something you have to say as an
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: NFL player. But I think everything I've seen from Mac
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: just he's totally invested in doing this. That doesn't mean
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: that he's going to be a Hall of Fame player,
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: but I think he's done and said everything right as
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: far as jumping in taking ownership of the position. Working
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: hard players he's got has died in order. We'll see
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: what the results on the field look like. But I
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: don't think off the field, you can really ask for
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: much more than what he's done. I have no idea,
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: I don't. I mean, I definitely have heard the comments,
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: just like the email. A matter of fact, I wrote
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: a voluminous feature about it that will be appearing in
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: the Patriots Yearbook, which would be on sale at some
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: point during training. Okay, what is going on? I mean,
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: all we can go with his empirical evidence, and the
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: evidence we saw this spring is that he was a
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: lot more vocal than he was last spring, so he
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: should be. Was he instructing the offense? Right? That's all
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: we know. He's more vocal, right. And I would also say, um,
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: and again, when I say none, I don't mean zero
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: because I can think of one right off the top
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: of my head. But I can't think of too many
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: quarterbacks in the history of football that weren't good leaders.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: I think I think Jerry Goss not a good leader.
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: I don't think I think that's his problem at all.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: Talent is this problem. But um, Jay Cutler would be
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: the one guy that I would say that's three. I
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: think he was a great leader. Um. I don't think
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: Tony Easton had problems being a leader. I just don't
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: think he was good enough. What he wasn't tough and
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: he wasn't good. No, but he wanted to follow him.
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: That means he's not a good leader because they didn't
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: think he was good. Okay, but he was also not
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: there's other stories to Paul you write, you know nothing exactly.
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: They thought he would fold, but they didn't think he
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: was talking about off field story. Yes they thought he was.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: He was speak yeah, yes, so he wasn't a good leader, okay.
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: Dad has to do with leadership, tying you lead by example. Okay,
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: so that's three. Even though I don't agree with Jared
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: Goff at all, I'll give you Tony Easton and Jay Cutler.
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: What don't you keep going? I just I'll get my
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: list out and i'll send it to you. Okay. I
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: just think that inherent in that position you have, you
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: have to be a leader. You can't play quarterback your
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: whole life and not be a leader. That's why I
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: was surprised he wasn't a captain last year. He should
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: have been. I think he should have been. And I
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: would be stunned if he's not a captain this year. Oh,
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: I think he will be. It's it's just the easiest
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: stuff to do. Showing up, eating right means to be
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: a captain has to be and I would be stunned
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: if he's not. Kingsley Wright say, and you guys keep
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: mentioning sliding someone into Jacob Johnson's spot on the roster.
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: I thought he was an extra I thought he was
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: an extra exemption since he was a European transfer. I
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: could have swore he had a roster exemption that allowed
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: us to keep him on the team for the first
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: two years. He did. No, he no, no, not in
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: the regular season. He's a roster exemption in training camp.
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: So you could have ninety one guys in training camp.
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: If he makes your fifty three men roster, he counts.
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: Not the first two years one a bet, Well, no,
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: but this, yes, he counts if he's on the team.
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: That's the way it goes. I thought, I thought that.
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: I thought that for the first two years it was
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: a straight exemption. It's those pathway program players only give
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: you an exemption in the training camp. They don't count,
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: or a roster spot. But if he makes the fifty
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: three man roster, you can't just have one of those guys.
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: Why would anybody ever cut one? Well, that's the thing.
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: In the first two years, you don't, So why wouldn't anybody?
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: Why would anybody ever cut one? If it doesn't, if
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: it doesn't count, you'd have fifty four players in your roster.
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: Every team would have one. I think, I know, I'm right, Okay,
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: it could be. I thought there was something something about
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: the first two years. It was an exemption, but maybe
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: you're right, it's just in training camp, you know. Yeah,
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: it's it once it's fifty three man, everybody has to
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: be down. But certainly not now even now training camp,
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: even that is gone now with Johnson, you don't even
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: get that exemption now. So but there's no more international
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: player exemption stuff going on. Oh there is, but there's
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: only so many of them to go around. It's not
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: like there's this waiting list of European players that are
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: good enough to play in the NFL. You know, there's
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: only like a handful. Yeah, it still seems like could
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: be a priority for the league to try to Oh yeah,
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: and that's why they give that exemption, to motivate teams
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: to take them, you know, to give them a shot
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: unless they've you know, unless they changed it. And I like,
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure that's the way it was when jacof
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: Johnson became a Patriot. But look it up. May changed it.
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: I don't know, no, I thought at the time. So
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: if we go not, if it wasn't, then it's not now. Yeah,
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: Well he got pulled up in in nineteen when Devil
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: went down, and he was here briefly. Yeah, I think
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: he was. I think he made it fair and square
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: after that point. Yeah. Yeah, I think once you make
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: the roster you have to count. Otherwise some teams are
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: that fifty four players and someone that fifty three. It's
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: not fair, right, Yeah, but you took I don't know.
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: I thought it was that that was the incentive to
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: take these guys. But all right, um, let's see uh
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: Locke from Adelaide Rights in Australia. I hope y'all had
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: a wonderful fourth of July. First question for Fred, do
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: you still do your lollapalooza shin dig for everyone? I
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: don't because it's too far be fair. No really, I
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: mean it was a hop, skip and a jump before.
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: Now you'd have to drive an hour to get to
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: my house, so wouldn't be fair for everyone? Beautiful. I
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: would love to do it. If people wanted to do it,
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: I'll go. Yeah. Well you place, you got a place
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: in the offseason. I wanted to ask Paul firstly, but
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: all of you, where you sat on player power in
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: the league. Paul, you have previously a pine that leagues
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: like the NBA have become two player dominant, where the
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: players have more ability to dictate how teams are built.
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: At the same time, you have a pine how NFL
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: players have bargain poorly, with the most famous line being
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: they will give up anything to make pot legal. Where
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: do you think the optimal balance is in relation to
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: player input in the team building process. Are you worried
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: with the way that football is trending with super teams
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: in LA or do you think that football will be
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: insulated in part because players will continue to bargain in
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: a sub optimal way. Well, there's a difference between the
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: collective bargaining and having power once you're a player on
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: a team. And they were talking about it today and
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: on the radio, and I kind of agree, Like there
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: was a time where you know, quarterbacks, I'm not the coach,
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: But now guys like Brady and really good players aren't
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: dictating like get this guy, don't get that guy, Let's
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: run this type of offense. I think, particularly quarterbacks have
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: a little bit more power in the NFL than they
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: used to have, and I think that that power is
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: going to start to manifest more into quarterbacks wanting receivers
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: and wanting weapons. That's like Aaron Rodgers specific Yeah, demanding
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: for the past, like four drifts like I need a receiver,
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: and they're like, let's drip to quarterback. Let's drop this instead,
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: And it's like he certainly wants that power, but that
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: position commands too much money for you not to listen
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: to the guy. You know, you don't. You got to
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: keep them happy. And to your point, you know, the
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: quarterback is usually a leader, and I think that when
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: you have someone like this leading your team, you should
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: kind of weigh into their insight of like what I
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: think that they need. Right, Yeah, I mean I don't
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: have any problem. I think that that's just good business
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: asking the coaches to, you know, especially if you have
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: an in graind quarterback that's going to be here for
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: a while and and you know, to make him feel
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: like he's part of the process. I mean, this is
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: probably some of the Brady stuff that we're treading around
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: a little bit, But I don't have a problem with that.
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: At the very least, if you disagree with his opinion,
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: have a really good reason why not at least let
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: him know here's why we're not going to do that,
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: you know, right, I mean, be respectful of the scouts
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: and the whole process that's in place to you know,
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: to find these guys. But you know, hey, these are
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: the ten guys, the ten receivers on our board right
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: now that we like, you know, ranging from first to
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: last round. You know, what do you think they look
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: at these players, you know, sit down with them. I
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: think that that's just you know, good business and investing them.
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: So when hey, if you have some input through the process,
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: that guy gets here, he already feels like, hey, I
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: you know, have seen this guy and vouch for him,
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: and now he's invested in making sure that that guy's
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: successful as well. I mean maybe that does feed into
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: some of the Brady stuff where they maybe I'm you know,
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: just speculating off. If they weren't including him on stuff,
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: I think he has less incentive to you know, all
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: of a sudden, say, Nikil Harry arrives, Well, you know,
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: Brady's not going to give him any benefit of the
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: doubt if he wasn't a guy that really Tom was
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: interested in maybe initially or something like that. So I
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: don't know, I just think if your quarterback is your guy,
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: you'd be respectful of him and let him be included.
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: And some not all the decisions, but especially when some
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: receivers and you know guys that you know he's got
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: to work directly with to make the offense come to
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: find anything out. Paul, Yeah, I had it right. You
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: had it right. If you have a Originally when they
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: had him on the practice squad, you could have an
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: extra guy in the practice squad. He wouldn't count, okay,
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: And originally they said that if you do that, then
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: he couldn't be promoted. Then they changed that to say
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: he could be promoted off the practice squad, but if
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: he's on the fifty three, he counts us or so
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: you could have an extra practice squad play. Yeah. I
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: don't know if that has since been changed too, because
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: now if so many practice squads exactly, That's why I
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: didn't go back and look. But I do agree with
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: you guys. Is the way you were talking about the power,
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: Like the NBA has gotten ridiculous and the RAMS don't
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: have that situation. People aren't in the NFL. There isn't
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: really a lot of like I don't think concern for
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: super teams forming by teams like talking like in the NBA,
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: it's so much easier. You get you get two stars
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: to talk, right, and they agree to join the same
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: team and instant contender. That's not you know, as much
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: as I talk about talents, it's not as easy as that.
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: In the NFL. Yeah, there's twenty two guys that start right,
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: so just two is not going to put you like
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: championship contender status. Well, didn't like to keep it local, didn't.
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: Patriots Bears are on make some demands with the Bruins
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: about personnel. Well, I don't know. I don't know, not
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: that I'm aware. No, back when he was right now
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: people are suggesting that he may be coming back because
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: Cassidy left. Well, but I thought there was something else
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: that he a certain player had to stay or something
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: like that or go. I forget. Maybe you want to
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: Critchy back, I'll tell you I'm with you on this one.
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: For you. I can't wait to watch the Bruins next
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: year with no coach in two year old centers Jimmy Montgomery,
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: we got the band back together. Nat writes in from
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: Santa Cruz Mountains by way of Cambridge, Mass. I've been
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: clearing up my storage in my garage recently. Inevitably I
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: look at each item and say is it worth keeping?
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: I recently picked up a rule if I didn't have
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: this and my neighbor offered me this item for free,
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: would I even want it? It's a good rule, keep
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: in mind the pain of having to get rid of
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: an item on Craigslist or at the dump. If an
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: item does meet that minimum value, then I give it
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: away or sell it on Craig's List for next to nothing. Obviously,
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: sentimental value items are excluded. That got me thinking of
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: the twenty twenty two Patriots. The equivalent here is if
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: a player has a zero dollar cap hit? How many
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: guys on the team? Now would you cut even if
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: they had no cap hit? Whatsoever? And follow up? Do
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: you think Bill sees we drafted him in the top
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: four rounds? As a sentimental value item? You who would
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: you cut if there was no repercussions? I mean, I
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: don't think that my answer would change, because I would
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: cut a guy if I didn't think he was any good.
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: If he's not gonna help me, I don't want him
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: on my team, right, I don't know. I mean, I
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: don't want to cut anybody. I want to see, like
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: there's nobody I'm guying to get off the rocks. It
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: just depends on what's my alternative like, Okay, I'll cut
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: a lot of guys if I know that I'm going
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: to upgrade with somebody else. Good point, you know. Yeah,
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: but it's easy to sit there and say, well I
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: get rid of John Smith and Nelson Agile, or if
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: there were no cap rampifications, well, if I don't think
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: they're gonna help my team in any way, I don't
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: want them on my team cap or not, right, And
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: I agree with Mike or like, let's play it out
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: the second year free agents. Maybe they make some improvements. Yeah,
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: And I do think, though to his other question, regardless
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: of what any coach says, any guy drafted in the
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: top four rounds has a little bit more value than not. Yeah,
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: and they're always really early, and there are always examples
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: of rookie draft picks getting cut. Um. You know, the
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: Raiders have done it a lot over the last couple
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: of years. Um, But it's rare to see guys in
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: the top three four rounds get cut. Remember when Parcels
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: cut Chung, not Patrick? The other one Eugene was not.
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: It wasn't as a rookie, no, but he was a
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: high draft pick. Yeah, but he was a first round pick.
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: But he wouldn't get cut as a rook he's talking
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: about as a rookie. No, I know, but he was.
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: Um it was a second year, right, I don't think so, No,
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: it was. I mean it sent shock waves to the team.
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: That's before my time. You know. It was like, I'll
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: take your word. We've been around a long time. Fred
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: Parcels is making a statement. You know, no one's guys
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: who stink, no one's job as a given. Yeah, let's
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: see Eugene Chung Chung stats. I remember him from the
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: sideline to my my high school game. I did hear
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: and him getting all fired up on the sideline. Well,
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: it took me for like two years not to call
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: Patrick Chung Eugene. Yes, Eugene Chung Um was cut in
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: Parcels his third year here. He played three years with
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: the Patriots. Yeah, and he was out of the league
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: two years later. So why do you get cut? Not
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: good because he couldn't get Bob. Let's get back to
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: the phones. Five five hundred. Jason's in Connecticut. What's up Jason? Gentlemen, lady,
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: how are you doing? Good? God? Are great? Long time,
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: first time nice Paul. I want to say to you
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: that you are my assoup favorite sports personality in market
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: and out of market. Wow, buddy, even more than Thelga. Yeah,
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: so Fred, some dude, some dude at dinner the other
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: I'd asked me if I worked for the Red Sox
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: thought he recognized me. You look like call you start.
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: Thank you very much for that. I appreciate that seriously. Yeah,
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: nobody is more intellectually honest than you are. Entire industry. Good.
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: So it's the off season, and I've been saving up
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: some questions that I call useless, pointless football questions, and
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: I'm going to ask you one that I think might
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: be a little fun for you to answer. And if
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: it is, then I'll call back another day with another one.
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: And if it isn't, then you'll never hear from me again.
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: A lot of pressure. So here it is. So I
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: think we can all agree that a football field is flat,
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: But what if it wasn't. If you had to design
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: a new football field and you had to do one
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: of the following three things. Either it comes to a
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: hill in the middle, it comes to a hill in
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: both end zones, or it comes to a hill in
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: one end zone. Which would you pick in order to
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: make for the most interesting. Oh, for sure. It comes
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: to a hill both end zones. It's all you have
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: to go uphill to get downhill, you know, and so
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: you're kind of going downhill to the fifth downhill to well,
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: you get downhill until you get to the red zone
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: and then it gradually starts to go up again. I
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: was kind of intrigued by the hill in the middle
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: that it's that it's a little hard to get half field,
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: but once you get there, then it's harder on the defense.
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: I find that a little intriguing. Okay, but you know,
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: technically there is a grade to fields like there used
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: to be the old Dallas field. When you stood on
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: the sideline, you could not see the other sideline, like
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: literally you couldn't see the line, and like you were
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: up to like other guy shins. That's how steep the
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: grade was in the middle of the field. And Buffalo's
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: was pretty good compain like, not complained. That's strong, but
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: he commented that he had the hard time adjusting to it,
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: but it was the old AstroTurf. Yeah. So Jason, first
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: of all, what made you think of this and what's
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: your answer? Well, nothing made me thig of it other
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: than the fact that I like to think of lots
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: of point with stuff. That's part of my job. I
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: like that technology and engineering teacher is to come up
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: with strange scenarios and give my students like challenges to
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: try and figure out the best answer to them. But
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: my answer personally is I'm with deuced the middle of
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: the field. I think it's more interesting to make the
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: offense sort of have to climb to the center, and
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: then the hill in the middle would make for some
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: big plays on offense going to the other end zone
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: and create more offense. I also think people would get hurt,
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: like ankles would get turned and stuff. I was thinking
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: the mechanics like throwing uphill or throwing downhill, or catching
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: while running downhill and then like accelerating downhill. Paul might
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: Paul might know, But wasn't there a baseball field in
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: the outfield Astros originally Yeah, the new place, they had
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: the little hill in deep center field. So they realized
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: that's really stupid and dangerous. Yes, yeah, yeah, and they
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: took it out. Yeah, we were in that place for
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: a media day. Okay, um, what was the last time
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: we were in Houston? First I went to exactly Atlanta, game,
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: Atlanta game. After that, I went actually went to an
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: Astro's game in that ballpark. It's a good little indoor world. Poh.
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: It's a nice it's a nice stadium. But they used
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: to have a flagpole on a hill in deep center field.
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: I think the idea was like that wall would never
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: get hit up that hill until like center fields are like,
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: you know, almost breaking their ankles running up a hill
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: that hill into a flagpole. You haven't you haven't seen
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: episode far Mike's in Baltimore. What's up, Mike? Hey, guys,
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: when it comes to what, when it comes to what
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: you see on the practice field, how do you know
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: what you can tell us and what you can't. Is
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: there a written set of rules on what you can
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: tell us? Yes, yes, yeah, And that's the same for
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: all media. By the way, Um they they they send
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: out a list of sort of rules and regulations. We're
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: not supposed to talk about trick plays or specific players
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: lining up in you know, abnormal positions, um kind of
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: scheme related stuff like you know, really really in the weeds. Basically,
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: they don't want us scouting for anybody exactly, you know, exactly.
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: So there are some parameters that we all have to
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: fall under. I mean, other than trick plays, I've never
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: found a lot of stuff that I'm like, oh, I
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: really shouldn't mention that, Like, no, you don't really haveful
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: you don't really have much of an analytical football mind
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: that probably see that. Yeah, but you know, like if
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: you've talked about Dug well, yeah, I mean we could
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: say who's returning, that's okay, But like if all of
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: a sudden, you know, they've had a trick play where
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: Mac lines up wide and goes out for a path,
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: we couldn't We couldn't talk about that, or they're faking
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: field goals and whatnot. We're not talking about all that.
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: And groupings. You know, we're not really supposed to say, Okay,
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: you know it looks like this is the starting line.
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: They don't want us talking about starting lineups, backup lineups,
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: but you know, we sort of try to creatively go around,
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: like Cole Strange is lining up next to David Andrews
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: and Trent Brown. Yeah, we're trying to tell you those
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: are You guys probably know that Trent Brown and David
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: Andrews is starting and Cole Strange is with them, So
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: we leave the reader to sort of figure out, well,
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: Cole Strange is starting. Well, it's like the wind and
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: brown flip flop, like that's a little bit in that
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: great that I was and I waited for everybody else
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: to write it, and then I wrote and then it's
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: out there. Yeah, yeah, all right, cool, thank you guys.
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: All right, Mike. It's a good question though, Mike, because
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: sometimes I think people want to attack, like why are
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: the media not telling Well, usually if it's something that's
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: pretty obvious in the media is not telling you, there's
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: a reason. Yeah, and that is they don't want us
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: to tell you, right, And that's why I wonder if
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: we're gonna get we're talking about RPOs, if we're seeing
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: a lot of that stuff, go, I mean that's something
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: that you could see that you would know that you know,
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: they would not probably not want about it. Well, that's
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: the thing, and it is kind of silly because it's
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: gonna get out there. And plus you know in training
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: camp there's thousands and thousands of fans also. Yeah, and
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: that and that is one that's a good point too, Freddie,
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: because I always feel like it's you're a little more
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: open in training camp than you are in mini camp. Yeah,
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: because of that reason, people posting videos, People are posting videos,
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: people are you know, writing their own blogs whatever. But obviously,
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: if if Joe Schmosas are in an RPO and you know,
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: Kevin Bedard says it, uh, it's a little bit more
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: credibility if Art says it's Greig's in turn to his
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: giant pillows. Stephen in Santa Rosa, California says, did anyone
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: watch the Pro Bowl throwing contest between Mac Jones and
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: Russell Wilson? I have concerns about Max's accuracy or his
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: ability to improve on it quickly enough. He was missing
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: on almost every deep throw and Russell just crushed it.
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: How much improvement can Mac make in this area and
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: how long will it take? Also, you cannot compare this year,
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: you mean to the Pro Bowl drills or to Russell Wilson.
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: To Russell Wilson, I know it was. It was striking
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: and acted great. I mean, he won the accuracy thing,
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: but the deep, the deep accuracy won he was. I mean,
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: I don't think he had any And then as the
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: as he wrote it, Russell Wilson came in and it
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: was just like bing bing, banging, right down the field.
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: But that's what Russell Wilson does. I think is Russell
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: Wilson underrated? Yes, I think because in the mention of
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: like current players, I know he's a little older now,
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: but current like he gets left off to the comment
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: the conversation that we had earlier. I don't think this
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: Sea Hawks had like an entire team to make him success. Well,
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: it's like he had like obviously he had Metcalf like great,
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: but like overall, it's like those two people of twenty
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: two people. On the first five years of his career,
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: he had the best defense in football. Yes, but this year, no,
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: last year, they weren't very good. But like in the
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: plays that he makes, like you know, you see him
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: scramble around extending plays and oh he got lucky on
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: that one, did he or was it partly his skill?
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: I think I think, I think he's really good. I
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: think he's I think he's a little overrated. I think
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: he's I think he's given credit for having done more
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: than he's done, kind of like Drew Brees is wildly
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: over see. I don't I love to overrate him, but
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: his accuracy and anticipation Drew Brees is uncanny, you know,
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: and that's what overcomes the size and arm strung less.
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: You happened he was playing outdoors. I'll circle back on
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: the Russell Wilson question after this year in Denver. Okay.
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: I think he's like But just because I say he's
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: old Ray doesn't mean he's not good. I think I
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: think he's great. I really do. I just don't think
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: he is like you. Hear a lot of people say
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: Brady Rogers, Wilson, Mahomes. I don't think he's there. No,
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: I don't think. I think he's in a different tier. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: Now last year he wasn't in that tier because Tamara
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: is right. They didn't have a very good team last year.
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: But I think he's a great player. But I'll take
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: Watson over Wilson. I think Watson has done more with
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: less than Wilson has. Interest I would agree with on that. Oh,
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: it was nice that you finally came. What about Lamars Wilson, Well,
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: they don't. I like Wilson. He's a much better pastor
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: than Lamar. But I like Lamar Jackson. These guys don't.
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: They're not they're not concerned with wins. I'm not guy
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: not convinced. You're not convinced. Still, seriously, thirty seven and twelve, Yeah,
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: thirty seven times out of you know, is fifty games
- 1:59:56Speaker 1: with the way he wanted. I guess I'll see. He's
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: gotta start. He gotta put a play off run together.
- 2:00:01Speaker 1: You know. That's what's gonna come down to. All right, Well,
- 2:00:03Speaker 1: that's gonna be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered.
