- 0:00Back on the Yukon Football coaches. So a little later on we'll talk to
- 0:03no Way rules the place kicker, moalains and Sand the offensive tackle joins us,
- 0:07and we're back with Jim Mora coach a game at Tennessee. We're going
- 0:12to talk about couple of things here. That first and goal. You guys
- 0:15had early the chance to tie the game. You're a little unlucky, lose
- 0:18the center injured and now you got the backup guy coming in. There were
- 0:23a couple of snaps there that went a little bit of wry and you have
- 0:27to settle for a field goal. I thought that was a little disappointing because
- 0:30you would put the ball down there inside their five chance to score tie this
- 0:35thing up, but it didn't work out. Yeah, that was a tough
- 0:38one. You know, our offense moved the ball fairly well. We struggled
- 0:41when we got into the fringe area, you know, outside the red zone.
- 0:44But we did have that chance in the red zone and Kari went out
- 0:48with the ankle and then we, like you said, we had a couple
- 0:51of snaps that were you know, not perfect or mishandled and it backed us
- 0:55up. Then we had another chance because they had the penalty and we couldn't
- 0:58punch it in and you know, been nice to get on the board early
- 1:00like that and with a seven rather than a three. That game, to
- 1:04me, though, it came down a few things. It came down to
- 1:07u in the big plays they got against our defense, three huge plays actually,
- 1:12and then some self inflicted you know, wounds we gave ourselves on offense.
- 1:18I thought on special teams we played very well, which is you know,
- 1:21was a real positive for us because we've struggled a little bit. So
- 1:26you know, it was overall it was another I guess you got caught another
- 1:29learning experience. Yeah. Well, they you know, they came as advertised
- 1:34against the rush. I mean, they held you guys to minimal yardage and
- 1:38and you know when you're when you're unable to run, and you've been saying
- 1:41this for weeks, it's difficult to run your whole offense. That's the way
- 1:46you're kind of this is the way you play. You're going to run to
- 1:49set up to pass, and those guys just stuffed the run all day and
- 1:53that makes it that much harder to really move the ball. Well, they
- 1:57were I think number seven in the country running the foot against the run and
- 2:01six and sacks. Now, we ran the ball not well. Obviously we
- 2:07dug out what we could get. We did protect pretty well. But you
- 2:10know, I, like you said, I think you have to be able
- 2:14to run the ball no matter what. So that was that was a little
- 2:16disappointing. You know, we pride ourselves on being a team that can run
- 2:20the ball regardless of who we're playing. We're gonna get another chance this week.
- 2:23You know, we play the number one ranked rushing team in the country
- 2:25this week, so rushing defense. I'm started rushing defense in the country.
- 2:30So you know, hey, we just got to keep pounding away and you
- 2:34know, adding to our staple of running backs. You know, right now
- 2:37it's tough because we're relying really on one guy in cam and he's doing a
- 2:40tremendous job. I mean, he's really risen to the challenge. I think
- 2:44he's shown what he's made of and what he's capable of. He gets better
- 2:46every week. But you know, Victor wasn't one hundred percent. He gave
- 2:52it a go. We needed to be judicious and how we used him for
- 2:55his long term health and welfare. So there's some things that went in do
- 3:00it besides them just being an outstanding run defense. But you know, we're
- 3:02gonna we're gonna keep working to get better. Yeah, the good news I
- 3:07thought was Jalen Mitchell got a shot. I think he had eight care he's
- 3:09thirty two yards if I'm right on this in a long run of eleven.
- 3:14I mean, he showed some stuff. He looked like a guy that it
- 3:16might be able to help you here down the stretch. Well, he needs
- 3:20to, you know, he needs to be able to help us. Like
- 3:23we said, we're light at that position. And you know, I think
- 3:25Victor is getting closer and closer to being one hundred percent, which is great,
- 3:30but he's not quite there yet. Until he's back, then Jalen needs
- 3:34to pick up the slack. And I've seen him get better every time he
- 3:37touches the ball. He's done a good job with ball security, you know,
- 3:39which was something that was kind of an issue earlier in the season with
- 3:44him, and I think he's he's really taking it on himself to clean that
- 3:46up. I think that, you know, he's also doing a really good
- 3:50job on special teams for us. So you know, we just have to
- 3:53weather the storm and he's got to go in there and do what he did
- 3:57on Saturday, and that's give us some plays. Now. That was another
- 4:00thing the team did pretty well special teams because Tennessee pretty good on that area
- 4:04and pump returns kick returns at center, but didn't really break anything in the
- 4:09game. Justin Jolie eight catches, Jim fifty yards after catch. I love
- 4:14that stat. And and Brett Buckman had six catches too, So you got
- 4:17a couple guys there. Jolie's had a really good year and I just love
- 4:20when he catches the ball because he not going down right away. Yeah,
- 4:25he's really good after the catch, and they put a lot of zone on
- 4:28us. And one of the things that he's really good at is using his
- 4:31body, his size, his arm length to get himself open in zones and
- 4:36then people are having to try to tackle him when they've got to run at
- 4:41him, and you know, he's got those big, powerful legs and he
- 4:45just doesn't go down easy. He's a tenacious runner after the catch. We've
- 4:48seen that on multiple occasions his two years here. And you know, I
- 4:54think I think Justin made them feel him a little bit, you know,
- 4:57And I was really proud of that kid. You know, it was a
- 5:00time late in the game where shoot, he was almost in tears because he
- 5:02didn't feel like he was doing enough. And trust me, he is.
- 5:06You know, Shoots, you watched it. He was doing everything that he
- 5:10could to help his team win. And that's the kind of man you want,
- 5:14you know, on your tea. You want that attitude on your team.
- 5:16And I think we all love the kid, you know, we all
- 5:19love him. Yeah, you got to have that. You got to have
- 5:21a lot of guys like that. Oh, that's for sure. Takekwan Roberson
- 5:26the QB twenty four for forty two eighteen, so he went over two hundred
- 5:30yards in passing for the third time this year. I mean, unfortunately,
- 5:33those two picks six is kind of you know, turned the game into a
- 5:38route. And I'm just curious when you look back at that and you look
- 5:42the tape of that, how much we the Because I'm looking at it in
- 5:45real time, I'm seeing their dbs jump the routes that looked like I don't
- 5:49know if they were taking a chance, they were guessing, but they turned
- 5:54it into six twice and that really hurt well, the plays that hurt us
- 5:59offensively. Of the ones that stand out is obviously the fumble that they picked
- 6:01up and they scored three touchdowns on defense. That's inexcusable. Obviously we got
- 6:08to do a better job with ball security there. You know, the two
- 6:11throws by take one that they returned, you know, there's some circumstance in
- 6:15there with the route or the timing, some pressure, and quite frankly,
- 6:20I think that the take one was just really trying to make something happen.
- 6:24You never want that to happen. What You never want your quarterback to throw
- 6:30a pick six. But it wasn't your typical Oh I just threw a pick
- 6:34It was man. We were fighting our asses off, we were down,
- 6:38we were backed up, we were trying to do everything you could. And
- 6:42I know this is this sounds just crazy, but it was almost to me
- 6:46showed his competitive spirit. Now he knows that he can't he can't do that,
- 6:50he knows that. The growth he showed that game I think was really
- 6:57overshadowed by those two plays because he stood in the pocket, he wasted the
- 7:01pressure. He threw some darts. Of course, not every throw was perfect.
- 7:05He had to throw in some tight windows and zone. I'm really impressed
- 7:10with the way he's improving. Yeah, Roberson is going to be a good
- 7:14player for this team down the road here hopefully in the Husk he's come up
- 7:17with a couple of wins back in a moment, we have Jim Morrow with
- 7:19us. A little later on, Vallentin Sen, the offensive tackle spending some
- 7:23time in no Way rule is the place kicker. This is the Yukon Football
- 7:27Coaches Show on Learfield.
