- 0:07and I have a great guest with us tonight
- 0:09to honor Men's Health Month
- 0:11so I have Marco Moreno here with us
- 0:14welcome Marco
- 0:15hi Megan
- 0:16how's it going thank you for the invitation
- 0:19glad to be here
- 0:21yes we're thrilled to have you here
- 0:22so tell us a little bit about what you do
- 0:24and what we're gonna talk about
- 0:26yes I'm actually a Gracie Jiu Jitsu black belt
- 0:31I've been teaching Jiu Jitsu in Leesburg
- 0:33Virginia for the past 13 years
- 0:38I got my black belt under Grandmaster Relson Gracie
- 0:44which is the son of the founder of Gracie Jiu Jitsu
- 0:48master Helio Gracie and through my years of teaching
- 0:53I have seen the positive impact of Jiu Jitsu
- 0:59in all my students kids
- 1:03men women
- 1:05so I'm very happy to talk to you all about it fantastic
- 1:10so why don't you start by telling us what is Jiu Jitsu
- 1:13how is it different from another martial art
- 1:16Jiu Jitsu is a form of grappling
- 1:19grappling is something that humans have done for
- 1:24thousands of years the Greeks were doing wrestling
- 1:28the earliest
- 1:29record of this particular style of grappling
- 1:33called Jiu Jitsu can be traced back to uh Japan
- 1:37Jiu Jitsu is a Japanese word that means the gentle art
- 1:42and it was uh
- 1:44techniques used by uh military
- 1:47the samurai were using Jiu Jitsu as their hand to hand
- 1:52combat fighting style around the um
- 1:56I think late 1800s
- 1:59Japan became open to the world after a
- 2:03a big restoration this art was meant to be lost
- 2:08but there was a scholar
- 2:10his name was Jigoro Kano and he had the
- 2:14the great idea to uh
- 2:16rescue theseJiu Jitsu techniques
- 2:20and reapply it for a modern use
- 2:24he categorized it he organized the Jiu Jitsu techniques
- 2:29from different schools of Jiu Jitsu
- 2:31from all over Japan he created a curriculum
- 2:35he package it and he put it to the service of
- 2:40instead of for military just for uh civilians
- 2:44so his idea was that Jiu Jitsu
- 2:47and the practice of this martial art
- 2:50eh was going to help the betterment of society
- 2:55at that time in the late 1800s
- 2:58early 1900s
- 3:01eh Jiu Jitsu and Judo
- 3:03because eh
- 3:04Jigoro Kano repackage Jiu Jitsu and call it Judo
- 3:09but at that time Jiu Jitsu and Judo
- 3:12the terms meant the same thing
- 3:14and then from there many Japanese
- 3:18Jiu Jitsu fighters
- 3:19were going all over the world to teach this art
- 3:23and one of them arrived in Brazil
- 3:26and just to make the the long story short
- 3:29one Japanese guy who arrived in Brazil
- 3:32Mitsuo Maeda taught Jiu Jitsu to the Gracie family
- 3:37Helio Gracie modified he made the style even better
- 3:43and then I think from there
- 3:46he start teaching all his kids
- 3:48he had a lot of kids
- 3:49between Helio Gracie and Carlos Gracie
- 3:52they had more than 20 kids
- 3:54from that point on uh
- 3:561993 Jiu Jitsu has become the most uh rapid sport grow
- 4:04growing sport eh
- 4:07all over the world
- 4:08and now it's also called Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
- 4:12so that's the style of our practice
- 4:13mainly it's a grappling art
- 4:16but originally Jiu Jitsu also has some striking
- 4:20but the difference between Jiu Jitsu and other arts is
- 4:24that is uh
- 4:27mainly grappling
- 4:28it's not like karate or taekwondo or Kung fu
- 4:33and the particular style of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
- 4:36focus a lot also on the ground
- 4:39so a lot of fights a lot of styles
- 4:42don't cover the ground aspect of a fight
- 4:46but Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is
- 4:48taking somebody onto the ground
- 4:50and controlling them
- 4:51and using submissions and also all kind of joint locks
- 4:56that is fascinating so how did you get into it
- 5:00well I was uh
- 5:02I'm from Peru so I was in Peru and I was uh
- 5:06in college and let's say
- 5:09I was just having too much fun in college
- 5:12yup eh
- 5:13to the point that
- 5:15I got to a point where I realized that I kind of
- 5:20was wasting my youth wasting my energy
- 5:24and I was not doing anything positive with myself
- 5:26I really wasn't happy with the
- 5:29my lifestyle
- 5:31uh back then I saw Royce Gracie in uh
- 5:35the first uh UFC event
- 5:37the Ultimate Fighting Championship
- 5:40where he went
- 5:41and being the smaller fighter in that tournament
- 5:44he defeated the biggest guys
- 5:46he defeated big wrestlers
- 5:49he defeated big karate guys
- 5:52and it was just so impressive
- 5:54to see how effective his technique was
- 5:58so I had it like in my
- 6:00in my mind that that will be a cool thing to do
- 6:04to learn Jiu Jitsu
- 6:05but there was no Jiu Jitsu schools in my town
- 6:09and I remember just driving or in the bus passing and
- 6:14and looking at the sign of a Judo school
- 6:18and after years that was my
- 6:21my route when I was going to college from my house uh
- 6:25I decide one day to just going
- 6:28and that day I joined my first class uh
- 6:33the instructor there his name is Pablo Salvatierra
- 6:37he became my my best friend
- 6:39one of my best friends and he was teaching the class
- 6:42he was a brown belt at the time
- 6:44and then I joined the class and just the first minutes
- 6:50we were doing warm ups
- 6:51and then we were doing take downs
- 6:54I remember after the class I felt so good that I
- 6:58I worked out
- 6:59and the next day my body was so sore and I felt like a
- 7:05in a way alive that my body woke up
- 7:10and I love the feeling right there
- 7:13I decided that I was gonna do Jiu Jitsu
- 7:16for the rest of my life haha
- 7:19here I am after day one yes
- 7:22day 1 I already knew this is it
- 7:25and I haven't stopped ever since well
- 7:28I had to stop for injuries or for eh
- 7:32when I came to the United States I stopped for a year
- 7:35but that year was 2002 when I started the Jiu Jitsu
- 7:41so it's been more than 20 years that I've been
- 7:45using Jiu Jitsu and it completely changed my life
- 7:47and that's why I'm also teaching it to students
- 7:52because I feel uh
- 7:54very passionate about it
- 7:55I felt like if that Jiu Jitsu can do that for me
- 7:59it can do it for others as well
- 8:01so I decided to become in a way an ambassador
- 8:07somebody who can introduce Jiu Jitsu to other people
- 8:11and hopefully they will also see the benefits
- 8:14what was it about Jiu Jitsu
- 8:15that was so intriguing to you
- 8:18like what was it that started that addiction
- 8:21do you think
- 8:22ah yes
- 8:24it's funny that you mention
- 8:25because it can become like an addiction
- 8:28but it I will say it's a healthy addiction right
- 8:31oh for sure
- 8:32absolutely right so I think to me the
- 8:37the main thing was at the beginning
- 8:40it was the workout
- 8:43the workout was uh
- 8:45the main thing at that time
- 8:46I was looking to get in shape
- 8:49and it's just a good functional workout
- 8:53for example
- 8:54when you go to the gym and you're running the treadmill
- 8:58it's just you're just running
- 9:00it's boring you know
- 9:02there's no I don't think it's very challenging
- 9:05I mean it can get challenging in a way right
- 9:08but here you are actually when you are doing Jiu Jitsu
- 9:14uh somebody's trying to take you down or submit you
- 9:17so you have to defend yourself
- 9:20if you don't want to get choked out
- 9:53so you're actually uh
- 9:55moving for a reason and at the same time
- 9:59you're also thinking and trying to
- 10:03solve the riddle that he's trying to throw at you
- 10:06so that I like that part of the workout and it's
- 10:11it becomes fun right
- 10:13so it's not like
- 10:15automatic or something that takes a lot of effort
- 10:18to go to the gym instead
- 10:20you just
- 10:21to become something that you look forward to do
- 10:23and at the same time this is what happens if you uh
- 10:28let's say you have a
- 10:31and you start eating junk food or drink the day before
- 10:36or you didn't sleep well
- 10:40and then you go to Jiu Jitsu class
- 10:43you gonna pay for it and you gonna regret that
- 10:47you ate so bad the day before
- 10:50or the same day right
- 10:52and you gonna be probably
- 10:56somebody's gonna make you pay for it
- 10:57somebody's gonna choke you
- 10:58take your arm and you're gonna be like
- 11:02I don't want this to happen to me again
- 11:04so I'm gonna take care of myself
- 11:06I'm not gonna eat too much sugar or too much junk food
- 11:11so I can be ready next time when I go to Jiu Jitsu
- 11:15and I don't get beat up so bad
- 11:17so then
- 11:18Jiu Jitsu become something that holds you accountable
- 11:21accountability right
- 11:23when if you don't take care of yourself
- 11:26when you show to the mats
- 11:28it's gonna show you're gonna be slow
- 11:31you're gonna have low energy
- 11:32and somebody is gonna make you pay for it
- 11:35so I love that in Jiu Jitsu
- 11:38so he forced me to keep eating healthy
- 11:41to sleep well
- 11:43because I didn't want to suck on the mats haha
- 11:47I mean that makes sense okay
- 11:49so you found something that you were loving
- 11:51it was making you feel good
- 11:53and then
- 11:54how did you decide that you wanted to teach it
- 11:56and take that next step yes uh
- 11:58the teaching happens very um organically
- 12:04once you start getting promoted
- 12:07and going through the ranks
- 12:08you start getting a Blue Belt
- 12:10it's still a learning curve when you are doing
- 12:13when you are a Blue belt
- 12:15but when you get to a purple belt
- 12:19you are pretty good at Jiu Jitsu
- 12:21and you will see the white belts that come
- 12:25and they are totally lost
- 12:26and you see them making the same mistakes you made
- 12:31so you start helping them
- 12:33so it comes from like hey
- 12:35don't do it like that do it like this
- 12:37and I remember my instructor at the time
- 12:42his name is uh Don Wallen eh
- 12:45I used to train at a school called fightworks
- 12:48in Sterling
- 12:49Virginia when I moved here to the United States
- 12:53uh when I got to purple belt
- 12:55and he saw my interest on helping
- 12:59and he gave me the chance to teach one class
- 13:03on Tuesday nights
- 13:05so I start teaching my class on Tuesday nights
- 13:08and some guys will show up
- 13:11and I start seeing myself as a teacher at that time um
- 13:17and then eh from there what happened is that eh
- 13:23then after years after a few years there
- 13:27he decided to move uh
- 13:29to another state and close the school
- 13:32and at that time I was living in Leesburg
- 13:35so I made the commute from this
- 13:38we're to start learning to train there
- 13:40and I think that was a right time
- 13:42I got my brown belt
- 13:44which is the belt before the black belt
- 13:47and that's when I decided
- 13:50it was a good time for me to open a school
- 13:54and then I open the school in Leesburg in 2011 and yes
- 14:00like I said it start happening without you even realize
- 14:04becoming a teacher and people are listen
- 14:07is listening to you
- 14:08and people are coming to you and saying hey
- 14:11thank you for the class today
- 14:14uh when I start
- 14:15when I open the school parents will come and say
- 14:18thank you for my kid is doing great
- 14:21now that he's doing Jiu Jitsu
- 14:23you'll see the impact and then you get motivated
- 14:26so it comes from a place of helping others
- 14:30to me one of the biggest rewards is
- 14:32when you see a kid who came
- 14:35because he's being bullied
- 14:37and then you start teaching Jiu Jitsu
- 14:39and the kids start becoming a little more
- 14:41more outgoing more confident
- 14:44he can look at you in the eyes
- 14:45he can start
- 14:47you start seeing the fire coming back to him
- 14:50and then regaining that confidence on himself
- 14:53and then some of these kids after so many years
- 14:57they grow they
- 14:59they come when they are 9
- 15:0110 and then
- 15:03I had so many kids who graduated from high school
- 15:07they are 17 they are so much taller than me
- 15:11it's hard for me to beat them in Jiu Jitsu
- 15:13they got so good at Jiu Jitsu
- 15:15and it's just great to see that transformation
- 15:18so it gives me a lot of
- 15:21a lot of reward to see that transformation
- 15:24and the positive impact on the students
- 15:27so keeps me motivated to keep teaching it
- 15:29oh that's fantastic
- 15:31so tell us
- 15:32because we're talking about men's health here
- 15:34what are some positive effects that this has on men in
- 15:37in their daily lives
- 15:39what is this bringing to the table for them
- 15:41yes men in particular
- 15:44I think uh
- 15:45regarding men's health uh
- 15:47I guess we can divide it in two aspects right
- 15:50the physical health and the mental health
- 15:54the physical health like I think I already mentioned
- 15:57it has to do with eh the challenge of a workout
- 16:02going to the mats
- 16:04sparring with somebody else
- 16:06that is trying to choke you out
- 16:08you wanna perform and you wanna do well
- 16:10so naturally what are you gonna do
- 16:13you're gonna start eating better
- 16:15you're gonna start eh taking care of yourself
- 16:18drinking less right
- 16:20or you used to go to the bar
- 16:23I guess decompress from the stress
- 16:26now you go to Jiu Jitsu
- 16:27that's where you release all that energy
- 16:30I think that's the physical
- 16:34I seen many many students who go to Jiu Jitsu
- 16:38and they lose a lot of weight
- 16:40and they get in the best shapes of their lives
- 16:44and they are really happy
- 16:45and then they tell you all these stories like
- 16:48hey man I lost 5 pounds since I started Jiu Jitsu
- 16:52I lost 10 pounds since I started Jiu Jitsu
- 16:55I lost 20 pounds
- 16:57it's just a natural that you start taking care of
- 17:01of yourself and the physical part
- 17:04and in the mental department
- 17:06mental health
- 17:08there's so many things regarding mental health
- 17:11and Jiu Jitsu I think the most important
- 17:15the sense of community when you go to a Jiu Jitsu class
- 17:20is different than if you go to a gym
- 17:23where people are doing their own thing
- 17:26you cross by somebody you don't even say hi
- 17:29in Jiu Jitsu when you come it's like a big family
- 17:33everybody knows each other
- 17:35everybody knows each other's names
- 17:36or if they don't know they introduce each other
- 17:39and then when you start sparring
- 17:41creates a bond with each other right
- 17:44and I've seen many students become their best friends
- 17:49in Jiu Jitsu they
- 17:50they create friendships
- 17:52and it's just great because after training
- 17:54we start talking and of course
- 17:57every somebody's joking and we're laughing
- 18:00many times I close the school and when I leave
- 18:03let's say 9:00 nine PM I go outside
- 18:07and the guys still talking on the parking lot right
- 18:11and they just talking about different things
- 18:14and it's just a great community
- 18:17everybody support each other
- 18:19and it's kind of ironic because on the mats
- 18:21we're trying to I say uh
- 18:25tap each other
- 18:26submit each other out but after it's all
- 18:29it's all respect
- 18:30it's all fun creating a good community
- 18:33so I think that's
- 18:35that's a big part of the mental health for men to
- 18:39to be part of a group who's trying to
- 18:42accomplish the same goals
- 18:44right it's not as a destructive environment
- 18:48at the same time regarding mental health
- 18:50you can also uh
- 18:51mention that there's a lot of problem solving
- 18:55there's a lot of men
- 18:57I don't know if you if you agree with this
- 19:00but for example my wife always gives me a
- 19:04a problem and I wanna solve it right away yes
- 19:09and she's like
- 19:10I know exactly what you're gonna say right
- 19:14so she's like why why are you giving me solutions
- 19:18don't I need you to listen to me
- 19:20and to understand what I'm going through
- 19:23oh OK
- 19:24well we operate different men and women right
- 19:27uh and
- 19:28and Jiu Jitsu
- 19:30we like to solve problems as men and
- 19:32and that gave us a sense of accomplishment
- 19:36right and we like physical things
- 19:39in jiu jitsu there's a lot of problem solving
- 19:42when you are sparring with somebody
- 19:44they are trying to do a move on you
- 19:46and then you're trying to counter that move
- 19:48and then maybe you do
- 19:49but then they present you another problem
- 19:52and it's very rapid constant problem solving
- 19:56and it's very mentally challenging
- 19:59and of course you burn a lot of energy
- 20:02those minutes where you're on the mats
- 20:05you're not thinking about
- 20:06I don't know bills
- 20:08you're not thinking about your boss
- 20:10any other problems that a man will have
- 20:14it's all about being there and releasing the energy
- 20:21solving the problems being with your community
- 20:24life goes on from there I guess right
- 20:26we like that more as men
- 20:29versus just sitting and talking about our problems
- 20:32I think that's a a way that we men cope with daily life
- 20:38yeah so it really puts you in um
- 20:41a group where you have a strong sense of community
- 20:44and you kind of create like a family setting
- 20:47where you all bond with each other
- 20:49and support each other
- 20:50and you're getting in shape and using your brain
- 20:53I mean it sounds like ideal really yes
- 20:58um
- 20:58you have no idea how much fighting creates some bonding
- 21:03I I don't know if you follow uh
- 21:05boxing or MMA MMA is mixed martial arts
- 21:08like the UFC the cage fighting
- 21:11but many times you see these fighters who
- 21:14before the fight they start talking
- 21:16trash talking each other insulting each other
- 21:18sometimes they do it to to build the fight
- 21:21most of the times after they fought each other
- 21:24they're hugging and paying each other respect
- 21:27they're just like
- 21:28talking about how great his opponent is
- 21:31so it creates bonding for some reason
- 21:33for some strange reason fighting
- 21:35but think about little boys
- 21:36that's how they play oh yes
- 21:40that's that's
- 21:40that's a good point that you made because in a way
- 21:44we are playing also when we do Jiu Jitsu
- 21:48yes you're right
- 21:48boys or in nature when you see animals
- 21:53little lions or little monkeys
- 21:57they wrestle each other and
- 21:58and they're playing they're having fun
- 22:01they're also bonding they're also training right yeah
- 22:05as a matter of fact when we teach kids
- 22:07we teach them Jiu Jitsu as a
- 22:09as a game
- 22:11we disguise the training in let's play this game
- 22:16but really what we're doing
- 22:17we're training them to
- 22:18to learn how to take somebody down to escape positions
- 22:23Castle Biosciences is a proud sponsor of this
- 22:26Eye Believe Podcast

- 22:34you and your healthcare team
- 22:35individualize the management of your disease
- 22:38to learn more visit Castlebiosciences.com
- 22:42so but you're right
- 22:43uh kids play a lot
- 22:45as adults we don't play anymore
- 22:47we stop playing with each other
- 22:49but when you go to Jiu Jitsu
- 22:52it's almost like we start playing again
- 22:55we're all grown men on our 30s
- 22:5940s 20s
- 23:00and we start playing with each other again
- 23:03so you see it's funny because you see across the room
- 23:07and you'll always see somebody sparring
- 23:11but they're also laughing at the same time
- 23:14oh that's because they're just having so much fun
- 23:16so yeah that's a good point
- 23:18I think that can help also
- 23:21in the mental health department
- 23:23to start you know
- 23:25having fun with your peers again
- 23:27I feel like there's really so much that any man or
- 23:32or woman you know
- 23:34we're talking about men's health
- 23:35but women as well could really gain from this
- 23:37you know a sense of accomplishment
- 23:40um you know
- 23:41eating better working out
- 23:43finding a community that is embracing you
- 23:45and making friends like it really sounds very wonderful
- 23:49so I I'd love that you're here talking to us today
- 23:52and telling us all about it
- 23:53because I think a lot of people listening
- 23:54who have been looking for something like that
- 23:57might be going oh man
- 23:58maybe I should try that what
- 24:00what do you say to the people who are saying
- 24:02maybe I should try that yeah
- 24:03I would say give it a shot
- 24:05don't um
- 24:08and disqualify yourself right off the bat
- 24:11I many times
- 24:13I talk to people about coming to a class
- 24:16and do Jiu Jitsu and sometimes what they say is um
- 24:20let me go get in shape first
- 24:22let me go get in shape and then I'll
- 24:24I'll join Jiu Jitsu class but they
- 24:27they have it backwards right
- 24:29is
- 24:30it's not like you need to get in shape to do Jiu Jitsu
- 24:32you just have to go to Jiu Jitsu
- 24:35start doing it and when you start doing Jiu Jitsu
- 24:37it's gonna help you get in shape so just try the class
- 24:42if you have a major injury you had before
- 24:46a major surgery hip replacement
- 24:50or things that it could be hard to
- 24:54to do an activity like this
- 24:56of course but most schools give you a free trial
- 25:00you also have to uh
- 25:02be very good at selecting which school do you go
- 25:05because there are schools that focus
- 25:08primarily on competition so
- 25:10all they do at their schools is to train
- 25:14fighters for MMA or for Jiu Jitsu competition
- 25:17so their room their training is very intense
- 25:22and maybe that's not for you
- 25:24because you are older or you have injuries
- 25:27but there are schools like um
- 25:29my school I don't focus too much on performance
- 25:33on creating competition teams
- 25:36it's mostly for the regular people
- 25:39doesn't matter the age
- 25:42or gender or size or physical shape
- 25:47just come join and we have created a
- 25:50a beginners program
- 25:51where it's a very slow and incremental progress
- 25:56so you're not gonna start doing the intense training
- 25:59right off the bat
- 26:00so I would say go ahead and give it a shot
- 26:04and it might change your life like it did to me oh
- 26:08that's amazing
- 26:09Marco I'm so
- 26:11excited that you came and told us all about Jiu Jitsu
- 26:13this has been a lot of great information
- 26:16and I Learned a lot because I really didn't know um
- 26:18what Jiu Jitsu was all about
- 26:20I knew it was a martial art
- 26:21but that was pretty much the extent of what I knew
- 26:23so I love that we got to kind of go
- 26:25do a deep dive into what it actually is
- 26:28and how it can benefit people
- 26:29is there anything else that you want to add
- 26:31before we close out sure
- 26:33um I would say that when you start doing Jiu Jitsu
- 26:38you become a little more resilient as well
- 26:41like I mentioned
- 26:42I started doing Jiu Jitsu when I was in Peru
- 26:46and then I was training there for a year
- 26:48and then I moved here to the United States
- 26:50and I came with just like $200 in my pocket and just um
- 26:57I had family here but I had
- 26:59I had to struggle to get by and to survive pretty much
- 27:04right and because I was already training Jiu Jitsu
- 27:09I had this mindset of fighting of like
- 27:13I won't let struggles beat me right
- 27:17and it doesn't matter how how bad things get
- 27:22you can find a solution in Jiu Jitsu
- 27:24we get put in very bad positions
- 27:26very uncomfortable crap claustrophobic positions
- 27:30and sometimes you do the wrong move
- 27:35that or you desperate or you panic
- 27:39that makes the situation even worse
- 27:42but in Jiu Jitsu
- 27:43you learn that no matter how hard a position is
- 27:46there is always an efficient and intelligent
- 27:49way of escaping or to approach that problem
- 27:54so then you start applying that mindset to everything
- 27:57right
- 27:58I always find people under 40s that start Jiu Jitsu
- 28:02and this is what they say
- 28:03I wish I started this when I was younger yeah
- 28:07if you ask
- 28:09hundred percent of the adult class that I would say 25
- 28:1430 and above you ask them hey
- 28:16would you wish you started Jiu Jitsu before
- 28:18hundred percent are gonna tell you
- 28:19of course I would I would have loved to start using
- 28:22this when I was a teenager
- 28:24so it's a perfect age
- 28:25because you are just a into your body
- 28:28into your
- 28:28fully on your prime of your physical attributes
- 28:31so and and you're still young
- 28:34so you learn fast at that age
- 28:36you know they kind of need that discipline
- 28:38and so I think it would help a lot with that as well
- 28:41yeah 100% so what is the name of your school
- 28:44the name of my school is Mastery Jiu Jitsu
- 28:48we've been in Lessburg since 2011
- 28:51my school has won best of Loudoun
- 28:55since I started the competition in 2020
- 28:58uh for five years in a row
- 29:00you know you're listening to this podcast
- 29:03and you cannot make it all the way to Leesburg
- 29:06just check Mastery Jiu Jitsu online
- 29:08where we have online courses
- 29:11you start from 0 the beginner's course
- 29:14and then you can start moving into the more
- 29:18more advanced courses we also have a
- 29:20a women self defense course
- 29:22if you check out Master Jiu Jitsu online
- 29:25it could be a good tool
- 29:27for you to get introduced to the art of Jiu Jitsu
- 29:30oh that's fantastic
- 29:31so everybody watching or listening
- 29:34please check them out go check out their website
- 29:36and check out their online courses
- 29:39that's awesome I
- 29:40I wouldn't have even thought that
- 29:41you could do an online course
- 29:42with that so I love that you're doing that
- 29:45yes I mean
- 29:46it's not the same as doing the physical
- 29:49but uh
- 29:51some people for whatever reason
- 29:53they don't have access to a Jiu Jitsu school
- 29:56or they just wanna know
- 29:59they may be intimidating to go to a Jiu Jitsu school
- 30:03and so you can watch the videos
- 30:06and kind of get familiar with what the moves are
- 30:10and maybe you can get a partner and watch the videos
- 30:14and then you practice with a partner in your home right
- 30:18maybe you have an injury
- 30:20and you are not sure about going to a Jiu Jitsu school
- 30:24where you might get hurt
- 30:26so maybe you can just do it at home
- 30:28and then maybe
- 30:29as you start getting familiar with the moves
- 30:32maybe from there you'll create
- 30:34the confidence to just join an actual Jiu Jitsu school
- 30:37it's not the same
- 30:39but it can it can be a good tool to start
- 30:42I think that's really really great that you offer that
- 30:45yes
- 30:45and I also get this uh argument sometimes I'm a lover
- 30:50I'm not a fighter ha ha
- 30:52but I'm also a lover and I actually don't like fights
- 30:57yeah I don't remember the last time I fought actually
- 31:01I had to use only one time
- 31:04and it was to separate my friend
- 31:05who was fighting with this guy
- 31:07as a matter of fact
- 31:08knowing a martial art will actually make you a
- 31:11a better lover I would say definitely
- 31:15and I was gonna say and you've already gotten
- 31:17all of your stress and aggression out
- 31:19in class
- 31:19you've got your endorphins because you exercise
- 31:21so you don't have any reason to want to fight anybody
- 31:24you're like on top of life right now
- 31:27true I many times after Jiu Jitsu
- 31:32I'm driving and somebody cuts you off
- 31:34the last thing you do is to get into a road rage
- 31:38episode yeah
- 31:39you just say peace somebody insulted you say hey man
- 31:44sorry about that and you just go up
- 31:46because the listing and also you realize how much
- 31:50how dangerous is to actually fight
- 31:53when you do Jiu Jitsu so much
- 31:55you already proven yourself
- 31:57you already know what you're capable of on the mats
- 32:00so there's no need to go to a bar
- 32:01and start looking for fights
- 32:03there is no that insecurity
- 32:05at the same time
- 32:06you realize how so many things can go wrong in fights
