- 0:12Speaker 1: join us online worldwide via our podcast at iHeartRadio, Amazon Music,

- 0:18Speaker 1: all could be with us as well.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Dr.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Velma Bagby is back with us today. She's someone that
- 0:22Speaker 1: many people have gotten to know as a best-selling author.
- 0:25Speaker 1: She's a media personality herself. She hosts her own two podcasts.
- 0:29Speaker 1: She also is a speaker and coach. I want to
- 0:31Speaker 1: talk to her about a very busy season as we're
- 0:33Speaker 1: wrapping up this quarter that she's been involved in. She
- 0:36Speaker 1: just had her series on her show, Faith on Fire.
- 0:39Speaker 1: We're now airing that on Conversations Radio Network as well.
- 0:42Speaker 1: But she also has some other projects she's been involved in, too.
- 0:45Speaker 1: We're going to talk to you about that. And now
- 0:47Speaker 1: she's bringing new life to her cat series as well
- 0:50Speaker 1: through some animation there, too. If you guys are not
- 0:52Speaker 1: staying connected with Dr. Velma, we'll let you all know
- 0:54Speaker 1: how to be able to do that.
- 0:55Speaker 2: But, Dr.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Velma, welcome back to the broadcast.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Thank you, Cyrus. It's a pleasure to be here with
- 0:59Speaker 2: you again.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Look, it's always great to be able to talk to you, Dr. Velma,
- 1:03Speaker 1: and to kind of catch up with everything that's been
- 1:06Speaker 1: going on. So a lot for us to talk about,
- 1:08Speaker 1: but I want to begin with something I was just
- 1:10Speaker 1: messing with you about. before we went live here, and
- 1:12Speaker 1: that is this extraordinary journey and new chapter that you've
- 1:16Speaker 1: been on as a published author. I mean, you recently
- 1:19Speaker 1: posted a graphic highlighting the books you've been able to
- 1:22Speaker 1: write in this past less than a decade. Talk to
- 1:25Speaker 1: us about what that was like for you to be
- 1:26Speaker 1: able to see visually and what that experience has been like.
- 1:29Speaker 2: That was amazing for me, Cyrus, because I actually discovered
- 1:32Speaker 2: some projects I hadn't addressed yet. So I was really
- 1:36Speaker 2: excited about what I was able to accomplish in such
- 1:39Speaker 2: a short time, because eight years isn't that long of
- 1:41Speaker 2: a time to have that many books out. So I'm excited.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Well, it goes to something you and I recently talked
- 1:48Speaker 1: about on Cyrus Web Presents, and that is not only
- 1:53Speaker 1: your book, you know, How to Find Your Voice After
- 1:55Speaker 1: Corporate Laryngitis, but How to Find Your Voice, period. And
- 1:58Speaker 1: you've been able to do that as that graphic showed.
- 2:01Speaker 1: So when I saw it, I was like, yeah, this
- 2:03Speaker 1: is what I've been talking to her about, you know, because...
- 2:05Speaker 1: I mean, you have been able to talk on different topics.
- 2:09Speaker 1: A lot of people don't even realize, Dr. Velma, because
- 2:12Speaker 1: we don't talk about it as much, you're being a
- 2:14Speaker 1: children's book author. Talk to us about that, what that's
- 2:16Speaker 1: been like for you to let people know you have
- 2:18Speaker 1: children's books out there, too.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I was excited about this project, and I really joined
- 2:24Speaker 2: family members who had an idea for a child's book.
- 2:28Speaker 2: And so I didn't really create those on my own.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I just joined my family member in the project, my granddaughter.
- 2:34Speaker 2: became a first-time author at the age of six and
- 2:38Speaker 2: an award-winning author. She won awards for her. So she
- 2:40Speaker 2: had three books that we partnered and produced. And then
- 2:44Speaker 2: my cousin, an adult who had been thinking of writing,
- 2:47Speaker 2: hadn't gotten out there yet, sharing an idea he had.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And we both had similar experiences with our uncle, his grandfather,
- 2:55Speaker 2: my uncle, my mother's brother. And he wanted to write
- 2:58Speaker 2: a book about it. And it so resonated with me,
- 3:01Speaker 2: the stories he told. It's an exciting little book, and
- 3:04Speaker 2: I was happy to be a part of that project
- 3:06Speaker 2: as well.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And then, of course, you shared your own story as
- 3:10Speaker 1: a young girl growing up with Hold Your Head Up Princess.
- 3:13Speaker 1: That was another one of your books. So I want
- 3:15Speaker 1: to talk about this experience because one thing I've said
- 3:17Speaker 1: to you privately, Dr. Velma, and I've talked about it publicly,
- 3:21Speaker 1: and I've done it for good reason because I know
- 3:23Speaker 1: in this industry, being in this industry myself now for
- 3:26Speaker 1: 25 years, that people are very quickly to put you
- 3:30Speaker 1: in a box. And they'll say, you are this, you
- 3:33Speaker 1: are that, you're a Christian fiction author, you're a this.
- 3:37Speaker 1: But you are an example that you don't have to
- 3:41Speaker 1: be put in a box. You can be able to
- 3:42Speaker 1: reach different audiences with the different messages that you want.
- 3:48Speaker 1: What has that been like for you to know that
- 3:49Speaker 1: you don't have to be kind of limited in what
- 3:52Speaker 1: you're able to do when it comes to writing?
- 3:54Speaker 2: I think it's important because you don't realize some of
- 3:56Speaker 2: the things concerning your life that makes great stories. that
- 4:00Speaker 2: would resonate with readers, that people need to hear and
- 4:04Speaker 2: learn more about. And that's what this experience has done
- 4:07Speaker 2: for me. It helped me to see, wait a minute,
- 4:10Speaker 2: I remember this time when this happened. Oh, wait a minute,
- 4:13Speaker 2: let me tell about this story. And so it's been
- 4:15Speaker 2: exciting to do, even going back to my mom's experience,
- 4:19Speaker 2: watching what she endured as a single mom raising seven
- 4:22Speaker 2: children and working multiple jobs. I tapped into that and
- 4:26Speaker 2: all of that All of those stories I realized I
- 4:31Speaker 2: was a part of, but it made me acknowledge that
- 4:35Speaker 2: these are the things that made me who I am today.
- 4:39Speaker 1: And it's actually expanded even past that. In two weeks
- 4:42Speaker 1: we have a new issue of Conversations Magazine coming out
- 4:46Speaker 1: that you're actually on the cover of, Dr. Vama, talking
- 4:48Speaker 1: about AI. AI is one of the things that you've
- 4:51Speaker 1: been able to embrace. Was that an easy thing for you?
- 4:54Speaker 1: Because you've done it not only when it comes to
- 4:55Speaker 1: your songwriting and releasing music, But now, of course, in
- 4:58Speaker 1: the way you're able to market your books, has that
- 5:01Speaker 1: been easy for you to embrace?
- 5:03Speaker 2: In the beginning, I was very cautious, you know, because
- 5:05Speaker 2: there's a lot of negativity about it. And so many
- 5:09Speaker 2: people have their opinions. And I just was very cautious
- 5:12Speaker 2: until I learned how to give it prompts. I learned
- 5:16Speaker 2: how to communicate with it because that's the key to
- 5:19Speaker 2: really getting what you want it to do for you
- 5:22Speaker 2: if you don't know how to tell it. it's not
- 5:24Speaker 2: going to create what you're hoping it would create for you.
- 5:26Speaker 2: So once I got comfortable with that, I really enjoyed
- 5:31Speaker 2: what I was able to do with it. And so
- 5:34Speaker 2: I use it even more.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And see, there's a great lesson in that. Now, I
- 5:38Speaker 1: have told my audience before, not that I have anything
- 5:40Speaker 1: against AI because I don't, but I have not incorporated
- 5:44Speaker 1: it into my current workflow, right? But I do know
- 5:47Speaker 1: people I work with that do use it, and it's
- 5:50Speaker 1: fine with me. But I think what you just said, though, Dr. Van,
- 5:54Speaker 1: was an important reminder for our audience because a lot
- 5:56Speaker 1: of times there's a lot of noise that's out there.
- 5:59Speaker 1: People will try to tell you you have to do
- 6:00Speaker 1: things this way or that way. You went through that
- 6:03Speaker 1: even when it came to writing the Catch series, people
- 6:07Speaker 1: telling you what you can and cannot do. How important
- 6:10Speaker 1: has it been for you to, one, do what you
- 6:12Speaker 1: just said, do the research for yourself, a.k.a. learn for yourself,
- 6:16Speaker 1: read for yourself? That's something a lot of people don't do.
- 6:20Speaker 1: And then to be able to make your own decisions
- 6:22Speaker 1: how you're going to use it.
- 6:23Speaker 2: That's really how I started this journey. You know, I
- 6:26Speaker 2: didn't have anybody to tell me what to do as
- 6:28Speaker 2: a writer. I was not familiar with the literary world.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I was a writer, of course, because I created and
- 6:34Speaker 2: designed programs and training. But coming into the literary world,
- 6:39Speaker 2: I needed to know. And so I had to go
- 6:40Speaker 2: out there. And get the how-to books and really understand
- 6:44Speaker 2: it for myself. And that's the approach I use for this.
- 6:47Speaker 2: And I think it's an approach I use all my life.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Let me figure this out. Let me find out what
- 6:51Speaker 2: this really does for me. And so in terms of
- 6:54Speaker 2: time management, it saved me a lot of time. In
- 6:57Speaker 2: terms of money savings, it saved me a lot of money.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:03Speaker 2: That I didn't have to pay someone to do what
- 7:05Speaker 2: it can do for me. And it's very quick. So
- 7:09Speaker 2: it's not like I have to wait weeks to get
- 7:12Speaker 2: a project done or to get a product from someone.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Chad can do it in just a few seconds. And
- 7:20Speaker 2: so that has really saved me a lot of time.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Well, one thing that you have not let Chad do
- 7:27Speaker 1: that Dr. Vama has been doing herself is being able
- 7:30Speaker 1: to host these podcasts and these series. One of those
- 7:33Speaker 1: series that you recently did was Faith on Fire. As
- 7:37Speaker 1: I mentioned, it's now being heard online. on Fridays on
- 7:40Speaker 1: Conversations Radio Network. But talk to us about that. I
- 7:44Speaker 1: had a chance to be interviewed for you for that series.
- 7:47Speaker 1: What was it like for you to highlight these individuals, Dr. Vam,
- 7:50Speaker 1: and share their own stories?
- 7:52Speaker 2: I was excited for them, of course, and the stories
- 7:55Speaker 2: that they shared with me on the show were really
- 7:59Speaker 2: exciting to know more about. Some of the people I
- 8:01Speaker 2: knew already, some of the people were new to me.
- 8:04Speaker 2: So it was great to discover some of the projects
- 8:06Speaker 2: they had and had accomplished and projects they have yet
- 8:12Speaker 2: to have released. So I was excited. That really is
- 8:17Speaker 2: it in a nutshell, Cyrus. I was surprised because it
- 8:20Speaker 2: was new for me to step out and do this series,
- 8:23Speaker 2: and yet I discovered so much in the people that
- 8:26Speaker 2: came on to the show. Yeah.
- 8:29Speaker 1: So that's one of the interesting things, too, about you
- 8:32Speaker 1: as a writer because you've been able to write fiction.
- 8:35Speaker 1: You've been able to write nonfiction. You've been able to write,
- 8:37Speaker 1: as I mentioned earlier, children's books. And then, of course,
- 8:40Speaker 1: on the media side, being able to host your own
- 8:43Speaker 1: solo shows and then, of course, to host these series.
- 8:46Speaker 1: What has it been like for you to see how
- 8:48Speaker 1: just by your taking the steps, because I think this
- 8:51Speaker 1: is a great reminder for our audience, how your efforts
- 8:54Speaker 1: have been blessed, Dr.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Vamma?
- 8:55Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I really tried to approach everything prayerfully, first of all,
- 9:02Speaker 2: to make sure that God is the one that's leading me.
- 9:04Speaker 2: And if he's giving me a yes, then I'm definitely
- 9:07Speaker 2: going to. It's like trying to determine if the water
- 9:09Speaker 2: is hot. You just dip your toe in the water
- 9:12Speaker 2: to make sure it's not too hot. You know, God
- 9:15Speaker 2: lets me know it's not too hot. Go ahead. Move forward.
- 9:18Speaker 2: And I appreciate that because with Finding Your Voice, the
- 9:22Speaker 2: Faith on Fire series was so successful that that there's
- 9:25Speaker 2: a second season of that coming out currently right now,
- 9:29Speaker 2: recruiting for folks to come on the show so we
- 9:32Speaker 2: can get that started again.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Yeah. And even outside of that, of course, this year,
- 9:38Speaker 1: I mean, which you've had a busy year on the
- 9:40Speaker 1: media side, too. You had your Esther series. You had
- 9:43Speaker 1: your Esther book that you released. And that is something
- 9:46Speaker 1: that you've been able to use, not only, of course,
- 9:49Speaker 1: with the book and your show, but also just in
- 9:53Speaker 1: the way that you're able to use your platform. I
- 9:55Speaker 1: want to talk about what that's been like for you
- 9:57Speaker 1: to realize that you could build your own. So many
- 10:00Speaker 1: people are waiting on other people, Dr. Vama, as you know,
- 10:02Speaker 1: to be able to give them an opportunity. What has
- 10:05Speaker 1: it been like for you to embrace the opportunities that
- 10:08Speaker 1: are in front of you and to use those?
- 10:11Speaker 2: There's plenty of opportunities for you to take advantage of
- 10:14Speaker 2: on your own. And it's ridiculous to just wait for
- 10:17Speaker 2: somebody to do that. Had I taken that approach, I
- 10:21Speaker 2: could not have talked about all the books and all
- 10:24Speaker 2: the projects I was able to accomplish within the last
- 10:27Speaker 2: eight years. So it's important for you to make sure
- 10:30Speaker 2: that you know how to step out there, that you
- 10:33Speaker 2: figure out the route, that you figure out the steps,
- 10:36Speaker 2: that you figure out the method, that you determine that
- 10:39Speaker 2: and not wait on anyone to do that for you.
- 10:43Speaker 1: That's such a great point. For those who are just
- 10:44Speaker 1: tuning in, welcome. You're listening to Conversations Live. Dr. Velma
- 10:48Speaker 1: Bagby is back with us today. You know her as
- 10:50Speaker 1: a best-selling author, media personality, speaker, and coach, and songwriter.
- 10:54Speaker 1: We're talking with her about this very busy season, what
- 10:57Speaker 1: it's been like for her to reflect on the past
- 11:00Speaker 1: eight years of being able to write and publish and
- 11:03Speaker 1: share messages and books, and then, of course, what's coming
- 11:06Speaker 1: up next. One of the things that you did, I
- 11:09Speaker 1: actually took with me to Atlanta recently to was the
- 11:12Speaker 1: WOW Project. And so that was one of your big
- 11:16Speaker 1: anthologies that you were able to do. Now you have
- 11:19Speaker 1: a compilation you're getting ready to work on. Dr. Bama,
- 11:22Speaker 1: what was it birthed out of? And take us back
- 11:25Speaker 1: to the series that you did on your podcast and
- 11:28Speaker 1: how it now has turned into this compilation you're working on.
- 11:33Speaker 2: The other podcast I have is called... Dr. Velma Talks?
- 11:41Speaker 1: Dr. Velma Talks.
- 11:43Speaker 2: You know what I thought and what stuck in my mind,
- 11:47Speaker 2: I'm sorry, was What's Love? Oh, okay, got you, got you.
- 11:50Speaker 2: That's the name of the new project, What's Love? And
- 11:53Speaker 2: it came out of Dr. Velma Talks because that's what
- 11:56Speaker 2: I talk about, love, dating, love, relationships, and marriage. And
- 11:59Speaker 2: so I had some women on my show that came
- 12:04Speaker 2: up with this theme. Let me find out from other women,
- 12:07Speaker 2: married women, What is love to you? Because I could
- 12:10Speaker 2: talk about that and have been talking about love for
- 12:13Speaker 2: many years. So it was interesting for me to just
- 12:16Speaker 2: invite five women on the show to have them tell
- 12:19Speaker 2: me their perspective, have them tell me how did they
- 12:23Speaker 2: find the love of their lives, all of that. And
- 12:26Speaker 2: I was amazed at each woman and their response. All
- 12:32Speaker 2: were different. And yet all of them touched upon many
- 12:35Speaker 2: of the things I had spoken about. All these years.
- 12:38Speaker 2: And it just made me feel good to know that
- 12:42Speaker 2: what I had been talking about and what I had
- 12:44Speaker 2: been sharing got validated by what they said on the show.
- 12:49Speaker 2: And so to have this compilation and highlighting those comments
- 12:53Speaker 2: and those conversations, it was amazing to me to hear
- 12:58Speaker 2: what they had to say. They were authentic. They were honest.
- 13:03Speaker 2: And all of them reflected upon prayer. their faith, how
- 13:08Speaker 2: they found love, how they've maintained love, because many of them,
- 13:12Speaker 2: one person had been married 40 years, I believe, and
- 13:16Speaker 2: how they continue to grow it every day, how they're
- 13:19Speaker 2: building it and what methods they use. It was just fantastic.
- 13:23Speaker 2: And so I knew it needed to be in writing somehow.
- 13:27Speaker 2: And so that's what this book is going to be.
- 13:29Speaker 2: And I hope the audience enjoys it. It's called What's Love? Question.
- 13:34Speaker 2: And it's a compilation. highlighting real conversations about faith, commitment,
- 13:39Speaker 2: and lasting love. Gotcha.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Well, we're going to let our audience know, of course,
- 13:43Speaker 1: how to be able to stay connected with you and
- 13:45Speaker 1: keep up with all the updates there.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Dr.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Bama, the other thing is, when we were just talking,
- 13:50Speaker 1: I mentioned how you've been able to use AI and
- 13:53Speaker 1: being able to not only do it with being able
- 13:56Speaker 1: to share music that you have now available for audience
- 14:00Speaker 1: to be able to listen to and enjoy, but also
- 14:02Speaker 1: in promotional material. I recently got a chance to see
- 14:04Speaker 1: the promotional material you're developing right now for the Ket series,
- 14:08Speaker 1: but also for your book, Hold Your Head Up, Princess.
- 14:10Speaker 1: What has that been like for you to be able
- 14:11Speaker 1: to have another way of being able to share the
- 14:13Speaker 1: messages of those books?
- 14:15Speaker 2: Well, I had to tap into my trainer, and my
- 14:18Speaker 2: trainer is Chad G. Petit. And so I asked it
- 14:21Speaker 2: what would be the best approach for me to do
- 14:24Speaker 2: that project. And do you know it mapped out everything
- 14:26Speaker 2: I needed to do? And so from that, going back
- 14:29Speaker 2: to our AI conversation, I was able then to take
- 14:33Speaker 2: the steps and do exactly what it taught me to do,
- 14:35Speaker 2: go in and do it. And I said, wow, I
- 14:37Speaker 2: didn't realize it was that simple. It looks complicated when
- 14:40Speaker 2: you don't understand what you're doing. But once you understand
- 14:44Speaker 2: what you're doing, I said, wow, this is really simple,
- 14:46Speaker 2: really easy from creating the sound bites, to how to
- 14:51Speaker 2: save the sound bites, to how to match it up
- 14:53Speaker 2: with each screen, to how to load it on Canva.
- 14:57Speaker 2: All of that was just amazing, and it truly helped
- 15:00Speaker 2: me to create those projects. So I can't not wait
- 15:04Speaker 2: for the audience to see them. Yeah.
- 15:07Speaker 1: And that leads us to the last thing I want
- 15:08Speaker 1: to talk to you about, which is the CAT series.
- 15:10Speaker 1: For many people, including myself, that was our introduction to Dr.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Bama Bagby. What has it been like for you now
- 15:16Speaker 1: to– revisit those characters, but also you're going to be
- 15:20Speaker 1: reintroducing them to some people who had not heard of
- 15:24Speaker 1: them before. How does that feel to know that by
- 15:26Speaker 1: being able to have this opportunity that you're going to
- 15:30Speaker 1: get other people to know about these characters like Grayson
- 15:32Speaker 1: and Veronica?
- 15:34Speaker 2: I think it's important to reintroduce it because I've always
- 15:36Speaker 2: felt that the book series wasn't finished. There may be more.
- 15:40Speaker 2: And so to reintroduce it would be the best way
- 15:43Speaker 2: to then, if I plan to add a book six
- 15:45Speaker 2: or seven, I'd love to have that, and I'm excited
- 15:49Speaker 2: about it to allow other people to find out about
- 15:53Speaker 2: the series and to really see what it was all about.
- 15:57Speaker 2: I'm hoping I create and develop a new audience, add
- 16:00Speaker 2: new audience numbers to what I already have, and I'm
- 16:03Speaker 2: looking forward to it.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Well, I know people are looking forward to it as well. Again, everyone, Dr.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Velma Bagby has been our guest. We've been talking with
- 16:10Speaker 1: her today about all the great projects she's been involved in. And,
- 16:14Speaker 1: of course, Dr. VanMans, we're talking about The Catch. That
- 16:17Speaker 1: leads us directly to the last book that you have published,
- 16:20Speaker 1: and that is My 70s Love Story 50-plus Years Later.
- 16:23Speaker 1: That book continues to get attention, being able to share
- 16:26Speaker 1: your own journey of not only marriage but also life
- 16:30Speaker 1: before and after and how your faith has helped to
- 16:33Speaker 1: guide you as well. What has that been like for
- 16:35Speaker 1: you to see how people, both married and single, have
- 16:38Speaker 1: been responding to Not only to your testimony when it
- 16:40Speaker 1: comes to marriage, but also the book.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Well, it's something you and I talked about recently concerning
- 16:45Speaker 2: the release of Why Did I Get Married Too? And
- 16:50Speaker 2: we talked about that a little bit, and somebody made
- 16:53Speaker 2: a comment. I saw a comment made on watching somebody
- 16:57Speaker 2: watch the movie, and they said, it's just so serious
- 17:00Speaker 2: that we... Pull back the curtain and let people see
- 17:03Speaker 2: what really goes on behind the scenes. And that was
- 17:05Speaker 2: really my intention when my husband and I agreed to
- 17:09Speaker 2: tell our story and to be honest about some of
- 17:11Speaker 2: the things that we experienced in a marriage. People see
- 17:14Speaker 2: our marriage and say, oh, you've been married 52 years,
- 17:17Speaker 2: but you don't know what it takes to really manage
- 17:19Speaker 2: that and maintain it. and fight for it because things
- 17:22Speaker 2: will come up against the marriage, just like we saw
- 17:24Speaker 2: in the movie. And so I'm excited to be able to,
- 17:28Speaker 2: when we made that decision to pull the curtain back,
- 17:31Speaker 2: to let people see what it takes to really build
- 17:33Speaker 2: and fight sometimes and stay, hang in there. Just like
- 17:39Speaker 2: anything else, we make a commitment to do. Marriage is
- 17:42Speaker 2: the same thing. We have to fight for it, build it,
- 17:44Speaker 2: keep moving, keep moving forward, look for creative ways to
- 17:47Speaker 2: overcome challenges that you face, all of that. So I
- 17:51Speaker 2: think that's one of the books, my recent releases, that
- 17:55Speaker 2: I'm the most proud of right now because we pulled
- 17:57Speaker 2: back the curtain to let people see some of the
- 18:00Speaker 2: things you may have to face in a marriage.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Well, it's a powerful conversation and great that we can share. Dr. Velma,
