Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode of Learn Dutch with Fexingo? Luna: Absolutely! I've been practicing my question words from last time. Wie, wat, waar — I think I've got those down. Lucas: That's great. Today we're going to review two more: hoe and waarom. Remember them? Luna: Hoe means 'how' and waarom means 'why', right? Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with hoe. Say it with me: hoe. Luna: Hoe. Lucas: Good. Now, a common question: Hoe gaat het? That means 'How are you?' or 'How's it going?'. Luna: Hoe gaat het? I've heard that before. Can I try? Lucas: Of course. Repeat after me: Hoe gaat het? Luna: Hoe gaat het? Lucas: Perfect. Now, imagine you're asking a friend how they're doing. You'd say: Hoe gaat het? Luna: Hoe gaat het? I love how that rolls off the tongue. Lucas: Another useful one: Hoe laat is het? — 'What time is it?'. Luna: Hoe laat is het? That's handy. Let me try: Hoe laat is het? Lucas: You've got it. Now, let's move to waarom. Say it: waarom. Luna: Waarom. Lucas: Great. A simple question: Waarom is dat? — 'Why is that?'. Luna: Waarom is dat? So if I see something strange, I can ask that. Lucas: Exactly. Practice with me: Waarom is dat? Luna: Waarom is dat? Lucas: Nice. Now, let's put them together in a little conversation. I'll ask a question, and you answer using the words we've learned. Luna: Okay, I'm ready. Lucas: Hoe gaat het? Luna: Het gaat goed, dank je! And hoe gaat het met jou? Lucas: Goed, thanks. Now, let's say you're late for a meeting. What question would you ask? Luna: Hoe laat is het? Lucas: Exactly. And if your friend is eating something weird, what do you ask? Luna: Waarom is dat? Lucas: Perfect. You're really getting the hang of this. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I feel more confident asking questions now. Lucas: That's the goal. I'll ask a question, and you respond with a full sentence. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: Waarom leer je Nederlands? Luna: Waarom leer ik Nederlands? Omdat ik het leuk vind! Lucas: Love it. And how do you practice? Luna: Hoe oefen ik? Ik luister naar deze podcast! Lucas: That's the spirit. Let's do one more round. Repeat after me: Hoe gaat het met jou? Luna: Hoe gaat het met jou? Lucas: And: Waarom woon je in Nederland? Luna: Waarom woon je in Nederland? Lucas: Excellent. You've done a great job today, Luna. Luna: Thanks! I feel like I can actually ask questions now without freezing up. Lucas: That's exactly what we want. Keep practicing these, and soon they'll come naturally. Luna: I will. See you next time?
