- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always. Hello and welcome
- 0:20Speaker 1: back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance. I'm gonna
- 0:25Speaker 1: sound horrible for this episode. I do not have my
- 0:29Speaker 1: microphone or my camera, but I will say hopefully all
- 0:35Speaker 1: of that.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Will change by next week.
- 0:38Speaker 1: But I am here of course, your host Clay and
- 0:41Speaker 1: with the light always is Katie, Katie, how you doing?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Everybody? From my luscious apartment? I gave a bastline apartment
- 0:53Speaker 3: at my mom's.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I love it. I tried.
- 0:57Speaker 1: My camera is so crap that, uh, the background feature
- 1:03Speaker 1: can't read that I'm like in a room, so it
- 1:07Speaker 1: can't even change my background. It can't change between, it
- 1:11Speaker 1: can't change between, like I can't tell that. Yeah, So
- 1:19Speaker 1: so uh, I was like, oh, I guess I'm just
- 1:22Speaker 1: going to be just like this is with this crappy camera.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Excuse me. Uh but guys, uh, we are here today.
- 1:31Speaker 1: If you see of this episode, this is the High
- 1:36Speaker 1: Republic Middle Grade analysis and ranking. The idea behind all
- 1:43Speaker 1: of this was it started out as, hey, let's do
- 1:48Speaker 1: a ranking of the High Republic. We'll do the phase
- 1:51Speaker 1: all of phase one, then we'll do phase two, and
- 1:53Speaker 1: we'll do phase three. So that way because at the
- 1:56Speaker 1: very end of the High Republic initiative, we did kind
- 2:00Speaker 1: of talk about like our favorites, how it all ended,
- 2:03Speaker 1: and everything else, but we like, throughout the course of
- 2:07Speaker 1: reading the phrase, we did not talk about rankings. So
- 2:15Speaker 1: this time around, Katie was like, Hey, instead of doing
- 2:20Speaker 1: it phase by phase, let's do it reading grade by
- 2:23Speaker 1: reading grade. And the reason why we're doing this is
- 2:27Speaker 1: to now see if there is a coherent story for
- 2:31Speaker 1: each reading level, because not everyone is going to be
- 2:37Speaker 1: like us. Not everyone is going to say, hey, I'm
- 2:40Speaker 1: going to read all of.
- 2:42Speaker 2: The High Republic.
- 2:44Speaker 1: There's gonna be people who are like, hey, they just
- 2:46Speaker 1: see a High Republic book on the shelf, pick it
- 2:51Speaker 1: up and start reading right, or somebody's like, oh, you know,
- 2:56Speaker 1: I started reading this through Star Wars story It starts
- 2:59Speaker 1: with and then it's the Light of the Jedi, you know.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So we decided to go reading level, and it was yesterday.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I thought when we said reading level, I thought we
- 3:17Speaker 1: were doing reading level by the phase, but you.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Wanted to rank them all and so I was like,
- 3:24Speaker 3: middle grade a legit ranking too.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yes, So this the way we're going to do it
- 3:30Speaker 1: today is an actual legitmate for reading levels, of course,
- 3:36Speaker 1: but my initial thought was, oh, we'll do it by phase.
- 3:39Speaker 2: We'll do the reading levels. It'll be easy.
- 3:41Speaker 1: That's three books that I have to read before recording.
- 3:44Speaker 1: That's super simple. And then Katie sends me a screenshot
- 3:49Speaker 1: last week and she's like.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I'm falling behind.
- 3:52Speaker 1: No, no, And I see a screenshot of the I'm like, wait,
- 4:01Speaker 1: wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait, why
- 4:06Speaker 1: are you reading that?
- 4:07Speaker 2: I thought we're only gonna do this and then she
- 4:09Speaker 2: explains to me, and I'm.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Like, oh, okay, well, time this speed run because at
- 4:14Speaker 1: that point I was.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Only uh literally the last two chapters of which is
- 4:24Speaker 2: the second book.
- 4:27Speaker 1: And she's like, great, sure we can pivot, we can
- 4:30Speaker 1: do something else with No.
- 4:31Speaker 2: No, we're good, We're good. You know, We're totally okay.
- 4:35Speaker 3: I gotta do a lot of laundry.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I was like, I got chords to dude, I'm just
- 4:41Speaker 1: gonna be listening to stuff all day. It's gonna be
- 4:43Speaker 1: totally funny. I got to the end of Phase two.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I didn't read any of Phase three, but I did
- 4:50Speaker 1: tell Katie right before we started recording that because of
- 4:54Speaker 1: the fact that Phase three was so recent A La
- 5:00Speaker 1: last year, I was able to retain a lot of
- 5:05Speaker 1: the stuff that happened in the three books.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm poor transparencies. I also did not finish, but
- 5:13Speaker 3: I got through Beware the Nameless, and I remember a
- 5:17Speaker 3: good chunk of a Valiant Valiant refreshed my brain with
- 5:21Speaker 3: my Manner's review of a Valiant Valve.
- 5:25Speaker 2: So okay, yeah, yeah, okay.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Because he delves into more spoiler side of things. And
- 5:32Speaker 3: Wikipedia did not have a plat summary.
- 5:34Speaker 2: So that makes that makes sense.
- 5:38Speaker 1: So we are going to be talking about these three
- 5:43Speaker 1: or five, six, seven, eight books. There's eight books in all.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Phase two is the only phase that did not have
- 5:49Speaker 1: three books.
- 5:50Speaker 2: It only had two.
- 5:53Speaker 1: But one of the talking points was that Katie brought
- 5:56Speaker 1: up in this discussion of like, well, oh yes, we're
- 6:02Speaker 1: gonna one one piece of news and I'm so mad.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Uh this is this is the PC Alliance effect, guys,
- 6:13Speaker 1: because every single time they have like a trailer or news,
- 6:18Speaker 1: it's always like, hey, it's gonna happen the day after
- 6:21Speaker 1: they were It finally happened to us, and it's happened
- 6:24Speaker 1: to us before in the past, but this one I'm
- 6:26Speaker 1: a little disappointed about.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Guys.
- 6:29Speaker 1: We are getting the Ninth Jedi series trailer tomorrow, So
- 6:35Speaker 1: by the time you are listening to this on your
- 6:38Speaker 1: podcast of choice, I'll Catcher sorry choice, you could probably
- 6:44Speaker 1: already watch it. It's gonna be debuting on Thursday, July second.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I'm super excited about this.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Of course, we have talked in Agnolgia about how we
- 6:57Speaker 1: are so excited about the series because this is finally
- 7:02Speaker 1: something that is outside of the realm of the Skywalker saga.
- 7:08Speaker 1: We really enjoyed the last Ronan. Yeah, yeah, it was
- 7:19Speaker 1: just Ronan, That's right. It was Ronan, which jove deeper
- 7:23Speaker 1: into that story of visions and the world that it
- 7:29Speaker 1: built was really really cool, really fun, very supernatural. Uh,
- 7:32Speaker 1: and we really enjoyed it. Now we get to dive
- 7:35Speaker 1: into another one of those, of course, being the Ninth Jedi.
- 7:39Speaker 1: And I'm just I'm so excited genuinely because we have
- 7:44Speaker 1: been I wouldn't say that we've been uh what's like
- 7:50Speaker 1: the well is running dry, but I feel.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Like I feel like we've been we've been lacking with
- 7:59Speaker 2: some content reason.
- 8:00Speaker 1: So so jumping into a new series is gonna be
- 8:04Speaker 1: a lot, a lot of fun, and we will talk
- 8:07Speaker 1: about the trailer of course next week.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Wait we see it and it's all glory and.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Guys, this month is going to be super funky because
- 8:19Speaker 3: we are closing Matt and I, my husband and I
- 8:22Speaker 3: are closing on our house next week, so we will
- 8:26Speaker 3: have some pre recorded episodes for you guys in the
- 8:30Speaker 3: back half of the month, and we'll probably be back
- 8:32Speaker 3: the last week of July talking about the New Visions manga.
- 8:41Speaker 3: But we were fortunate enough to receive advanced review copies
- 8:46Speaker 3: of Star Wars Legacy from Random House Worlds, so we've
- 8:52Speaker 3: got that one in our belt, and so that embargo
- 8:55Speaker 3: is actually up in two weeks on July fourteenth, so
- 8:59Speaker 3: we will have a pre recorded episode for you guys
- 9:01Speaker 3: talking about that review. I think it's the sixteenth is
- 9:06Speaker 3: when that episode would drop into podcasters, and then the
- 9:10Speaker 3: following week it's actually Eyes Like Stars Releases, which is
- 9:17Speaker 3: I believe it's still from Random House Worlds, but it's
- 9:19Speaker 3: an imprint, so it's I think it's a Dela Corte Press,
- 9:24Speaker 3: and so we did get that arc as well, so
- 9:26Speaker 3: we will be able to talk to you guys about
- 9:27Speaker 3: both of those legacy at the embargo date, and then
- 9:32Speaker 3: we will have a review for you guys, Win Eyes
- 9:34Speaker 3: like Stars releases that is going to be pre recorded.
- 9:39Speaker 3: So those are the two things that you can look
- 9:41Speaker 3: forward to. So the sixteenth and then the following week
- 9:44Speaker 3: would be I think the twenty third, So then the
- 9:47Speaker 3: thirtieth we will be back, so that would be the
- 9:51Speaker 3: twenty ninth, we would be back on YouTube live that week.
- 9:57Speaker 2: So yeah, really really excited.
- 10:02Speaker 1: And also we did receive the audio files for Legacies,
- 10:06Speaker 1: so we are going to be able to actually listen
- 10:09Speaker 1: to the audio it's released as well, and we'll talk
- 10:14Speaker 1: about that in our review. But yeah, guys, we're gonna
- 10:19Speaker 1: be talking about the High Republic middle grade books.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Now.
- 10:23Speaker 1: One of the topics that Katie wanted to go over
- 10:27Speaker 1: was the fact that, like, hey, is there a coherent
- 10:30Speaker 1: story between.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Each of these books throughout Beach Face long story Shorts.
- 10:37Speaker 2: I would say.
- 10:40Speaker 3: No, I think you have a decent cohesive story in
- 10:48Speaker 3: Phase two and Phase three, Like singular stories Phase one,
- 10:54Speaker 3: I don't think you have a cohesive story. And as
- 10:57Speaker 3: much as I love Ram, it's the race to Crash
- 11:01Speaker 3: Point Tower, even though you have Vernestra, that is detracted
- 11:07Speaker 3: because Vernestra's story in that in that wave takes place
- 11:13Speaker 3: in the young adult story. And so in the the
- 11:18Speaker 3: Wave three book of Phase one, which is Mission to Disaster,
- 11:24Speaker 3: you've got like Imrine goes, oh, but I thought your
- 11:27Speaker 3: hyper space vision or your visions only happened in hyperspace,
- 11:31Speaker 3: and I had to go like, wait, when did that
- 11:34Speaker 3: come up? Like, and it's because it happens in just
- 11:41Speaker 3: in the Ireland's young adult book.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Yes, And I think that in this way of storytelling
- 11:52Speaker 1: at best, the middle grade like the way you can
- 11:57Speaker 1: look at it is in overall story of the High Republic,
- 12:03Speaker 1: with that an anthology of stories. That's what this feels like.
- 12:08Speaker 1: If you were to just read the middle grade books
- 12:12Speaker 1: back to back to back, it would genuinely feel like
- 12:15Speaker 1: an anthology with some characters able to be still involved.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:26Speaker 1: And with the Phase two I feel like that one.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I do agree with you. There is a singular like story.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Because you've got Dash and you've got Ruper in both stories.
- 12:46Speaker 3: And yes, do you have side characters come in like
- 12:50Speaker 3: different side characters in each one. Yes, but that those
- 12:54Speaker 3: two middle grade books are telling Ruper story with some
- 12:59Speaker 3: sprinkle of Dash as the other main character in this.
- 13:04Speaker 3: I think for Phase three as much as I wanted
- 13:08Speaker 3: it to be, Emory's story takes place and defy the
- 13:12Speaker 3: storm and a valiant vowel, and so for Phase three,
- 13:16Speaker 3: the story is actually about Teptep as the main character,
- 13:21Speaker 3: because she's the character that transcends all three stories, and
- 13:27Speaker 3: it really develops her growth across the whole thing, from
- 13:31Speaker 3: a youngling who was trying to find her place as
- 13:34Speaker 3: a trans female in the Jedi Order and coming into
- 13:40Speaker 3: the end of a valiant vow where she gets to
- 13:43Speaker 3: be a pad one of someone who she really values
- 13:46Speaker 3: their opinion and wants to be like them and has
- 13:50Speaker 3: got a great mentor in that regard. So Phase three
- 13:57Speaker 3: is definitely a Tep Tep story. Again, I wanted Emory
- 14:01Speaker 3: because I feel like we left Emory in such a
- 14:04Speaker 3: fragile state at the end, and I know that he
- 14:09Speaker 3: also has some bits and pieces a little bit in
- 14:13Speaker 3: the comics, but really I felt like at the end
- 14:15Speaker 3: of a Mission to Disaster, I was like, dude, I'm
- 14:18Speaker 3: scared for Emory. I remember feeling that in the beginning.
- 14:22Speaker 3: I was scared for Vernestra too, but I knew Vernestra
- 14:25Speaker 3: was too popular to really kill off at that point,
- 14:29Speaker 3: and so coming into phase three, I was like, Okay,
- 14:32Speaker 3: we're getting Emory and these and I get you had
- 14:35Speaker 3: more authors come in for phase two who wanted to
- 14:39Speaker 3: do new things in phase three, but I was like,
- 14:43Speaker 3: I just wish that we had finished the story that
- 14:47Speaker 3: we would have gotten with the characters that we started with.
- 14:50Speaker 3: And I think that's the down side of saying, Okay,
- 14:54Speaker 3: we're gonna take a break and go back in time
- 14:56Speaker 3: and then come back to these stories.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that looking at it retrospectively, I think I would
- 15:06Speaker 1: have appreciated the mystery a little bit more if we
- 15:11Speaker 1: go like if you rearranged it, I would have gone
- 15:16Speaker 1: a phase one, phase three, phase two. And the reason
- 15:23Speaker 1: why that is is this is coming from the guy
- 15:26Speaker 1: that that hates.
- 15:30Speaker 2: When stories.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Yes, when when stories are told in not the correct timeline,
- 15:38Speaker 1: and when I say in the correct timeline, I mean
- 15:40Speaker 1: more in the correct like numbering. But I think it
- 15:45Speaker 1: would have been a little bit more fun because looking
- 15:50Speaker 1: back at these books in phase one, I forgot how
- 15:56Speaker 1: many teases there were two face too, with the path.
- 16:12Speaker 2: With the blight and everything else.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I thought, okay, cool, this like now I see it,
- 16:20Speaker 1: like there's there's actual like cause Again, when we were
- 16:23Speaker 1: reading this, we had no idea what was happening in.
- 16:28Speaker 2: We didn't even have like teasons, what does that happen?
- 16:34Speaker 1: I think it was in Mission to Disaster. When we
- 16:38Speaker 1: start to hear of like, oh, there was like some
- 16:42Speaker 1: bad things that happened a long time ago and it
- 16:46Speaker 1: had to deal with you.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Know, Dolma and all of this other stuff, it's like.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and again it's like, oh, we can get access
- 16:55Speaker 1: to this information, but we have to request it from the.
- 16:59Speaker 2: JIT order and all these other things.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Like you start to see now, you know, post post mortem,
- 17:06Speaker 1: it's like, oh, okay, yeah, they were a.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Lot of things, but like at the same time, they
- 17:13Speaker 3: plugged all those things in a Mission to Disaster and
- 17:18Speaker 3: didn't really follow up on anything. Because the way you
- 17:23Speaker 3: think about it, right when Michael said, Glaine was like, oh, yeah,
- 17:27Speaker 3: we're gonna do middle grade, we're gonna do young adult,
- 17:29Speaker 3: we're gonna do adult. We're gonna have all age comics.
- 17:32Speaker 3: We're gonna have adult comics, and you're gonna be able
- 17:34Speaker 3: to read one thing and follow a singular story throughout.
- 17:40Speaker 3: And this is the whole point of why I wanted
- 17:42Speaker 3: to switch it up and do the different reading reading things.
- 17:48Speaker 3: I don't know what you call these re reading levels.
- 17:53Speaker 3: That's right. I wanted to do the reading levels because
- 17:56Speaker 3: I remember him saying that and going, Okay, if I
- 18:00Speaker 3: read these on their own, with no other context, how
- 18:05Speaker 3: would I feel about how the story carried out? If
- 18:08Speaker 3: I was just like, oh, my fifth grader wants to
- 18:12Speaker 3: read these and I'm gonna pick up every single one
- 18:14Speaker 3: and see how it goes. Yeah, they would be really
- 18:17Speaker 3: confused in the middle.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I don't think like, even when you get
- 18:23Speaker 1: to Mission to Disaster, you have names like Lorna D
- 18:29Speaker 1: being thrown about like crazy, and it's just like it
- 18:32Speaker 1: was Lorna D. But they keep telling you, oh, it's
- 18:37Speaker 1: the Eye, the Eye, the Eye, the Eye. And then
- 18:40Speaker 1: when you go to escape from Escape from Bellow, where
- 18:44Speaker 1: the Nameless and a valiant Bow, at this point they're
- 18:48Speaker 1: already talking about marketing, and it's like you never get
- 18:53Speaker 1: to learn about d.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Yeah, because the the if you were reading everything in
- 19:00Speaker 3: or to your only reference to a Row at that
- 19:04Speaker 3: point is marta Row at the end of a Quest
- 19:06Speaker 3: for Planet x SO, and I get the point of Okay,
- 19:13Speaker 3: let's throw in easter eggs to see if they'll read
- 19:16Speaker 3: something else, see if we can get them to buy
- 19:18Speaker 3: something else. Not to this extent, though, this is hey,
- 19:23Speaker 3: there's something else going on and that you don't know about,
- 19:26Speaker 3: kind of thing like.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Ha ha, I have not yet gotten my moving pod yet.
- 19:36Speaker 1: It has my desk and it has on my books.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I need to go back to the middle grade specifically
- 19:44Speaker 1: and see if the inside of the sleeves have any
- 19:49Speaker 1: type of next reading.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Recommendations, Yeah, like at the back. Yeah, because I think
- 19:57Speaker 2: that in some cases.
- 20:01Speaker 1: What you're saying should happen should be like, oh, you
- 20:05Speaker 1: know you finished with this, now you should read this.
- 20:09Speaker 2: You know.
- 20:11Speaker 1: We see it a lot in the Marvel comics. At
- 20:16Speaker 1: the very end of the comics they have like two
- 20:19Speaker 1: whole pages that are like, oh, this is what's also
- 20:22Speaker 1: on sale in the Star Wars line of things.
- 20:27Speaker 2: And so I'm curious. I know they wouldn't.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Really do it in the young adult and the adult
- 20:34Speaker 1: novels because.
- 20:34Speaker 2: That's just not something you do. But unfortunately, just the.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Way that younger audiences are marketed to is and we
- 20:45Speaker 1: have to tell them to go buy something else, you know.
- 20:50Speaker 1: So I'm interested to see if they have anything like that.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Don't remember if they do or not. But Katie, looking
- 20:59Speaker 1: at these eight books, you got through six of them.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I got through five of them, seven, seven of them
- 21:11Speaker 1: seven and I got through five. I remember the last
- 21:18Speaker 1: three pretty well. I want to know, because there's eight,
- 21:23Speaker 1: what are your top not top four?
- 21:26Speaker 2: Your what is your bottom four? You had to choose
- 21:31Speaker 2: between these?
- 21:33Speaker 3: I feel like that's really rude with these big middle grade.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I understand, like we are in our thirties, like this
- 21:44Speaker 1: is our audiences that are that are twelve or or younger.
- 21:50Speaker 2: But still thinking.
- 21:52Speaker 3: That in mind, I really feel like, as much as
- 22:02Speaker 3: I love to write a Cordova is writing, I feel like,
- 22:05Speaker 3: be where the name And I'm not saying this is
- 22:07Speaker 3: like in order as my bottom I would say this
- 22:10Speaker 3: is probably just at the bottom. I would probably have
- 22:14Speaker 3: to say, but where the Nameless sits there? I think
- 22:20Speaker 3: originally when I read these, both of the Phase two
- 22:24Speaker 3: books were down there. However, looking at it from a
- 22:30Speaker 3: reread perspective, I think the only one I'm going to
- 22:34Speaker 3: put down there is Quest for the Hid in the City,
- 22:38Speaker 3: which is the first one.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Now is that because it's a horror book?
- 22:43Speaker 3: Yes? I still could not stand Gloam Gloom I strongly
- 22:52Speaker 3: just liked it, but I loved a question for Planet
- 22:59Speaker 3: that and I remember like thinking like, Okay, this one's
- 23:04Speaker 3: pretty good and then oh gosh, I think Mission to Disaster.
- 23:15Speaker 3: And that's mainly because of the House Yon plug in there.
- 23:20Speaker 3: I feel like Justina Ireland wanted to write a different
- 23:23Speaker 3: book and they said, yeah, but we need start like
- 23:27Speaker 3: Beacon to move.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Mm hmmm, yeah, I'm going to unfortunately.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Have Planet X is going to get a stray bullet
- 23:41Speaker 2: from me.
- 23:43Speaker 1: That one out of the two Face two books, I
- 23:47Speaker 1: like Hidden City more. I really like George Man's uh
- 23:53Speaker 1: adventure through the horror genre and there I thought it
- 23:57Speaker 1: was really really fun. I will also say in Phase three,
- 24:01Speaker 1: out of all three books, I would say this is
- 24:07Speaker 1: the weakest.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I'm not gonna say it's bad, it's just the weakest.
- 24:11Speaker 3: Of the Yeah, and I love so Nuge.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it was his introduction, like I really enjoyed him
- 24:21Speaker 1: as a character. And then I don't know if you
- 24:25Speaker 1: remember this, but as my very first time reading this book,
- 24:32Speaker 1: crash Point.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I ever read Crash Point.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Crash Point was.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I was not on the podcast until after Crash Point.
- 24:45Speaker 2: I was.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I joined in during phase one, but it was after
- 24:49Speaker 1: the first pay books, and I.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Had you go back and read a Test of Courage.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Because Mission to Disaster was refocusing on Burgnastra, I didn't
- 24:57Speaker 3: have you go read Race to Crash Point Tower.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:02Speaker 1: So my three from each phase is crash Point, uh,
- 25:09Speaker 1: planet X and be where the names was. And then
- 25:13Speaker 1: my fourth just because I do think it was I
- 25:21Speaker 1: feel like the second time reading it was a little
- 25:23Speaker 1: bit of a drag, and that is Mission to Disaster.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I think that there was just too much to focus
- 25:33Speaker 1: on for especially for a middle grade book.
- 25:38Speaker 2: We had when we talked about the High Republic.
- 25:43Speaker 1: A very popular conversation that we have between the two
- 25:45Speaker 1: of us is perspectives. And I do think that a
- 25:53Speaker 1: middle grading book can have more than one perspective, but
- 25:57Speaker 1: it shouldn't go crazy. Mission to this asked here. I
- 26:00Speaker 1: do feel like went a little crazy with the perspectives
- 26:07Speaker 1: because we get Renis show, we get uh, memory, we
- 26:11Speaker 1: get uh, and then we get.
- 26:17Speaker 2: There was one more? Was there? One?
- 26:19Speaker 1: One?
- 26:20Speaker 2: It was just those three, and it just felt like
- 26:23Speaker 2: it might have just.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Been a longer Yeah, it is a longer book.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeah, those would be my bottom four. And
- 26:34Speaker 1: again guys. It's it's not us just being like, hey,
- 26:37Speaker 1: let's tear these kids books apart. You know, yeah, we
- 26:41Speaker 1: we enjoyed reading these, and we do want to give
- 26:45Speaker 1: them a proper like like is this something like.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Because eventually.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Amberlin is not necessarily ready for chapter books right now,
- 26:57Speaker 1: she's of coourse still three going on to four years old,
- 27:00Speaker 1: but she will start to get interested in it, and
- 27:03Speaker 1: of course I'm going to introduce her to stuff that
- 27:05Speaker 1: we already owned and so like.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Saying like, hey, you can read these, She's gonna have
- 27:12Speaker 2: a lot.
- 27:13Speaker 1: I feel like she's gonna have a lot of questions
- 27:15Speaker 1: if she just reads the first three books and then
- 27:18Speaker 1: jumps into.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Phase two and like hey, what's going on here? You know?
- 27:23Speaker 2: So that's I think one of.
- 27:25Speaker 1: The biggest things going into this that Michael and I think,
- 27:32Speaker 1: just like the entire team with this initiative may probably
- 27:38Speaker 1: want to hold back on it, even like in their
- 27:42Speaker 1: next big thing. We have no idea what they're gonna
- 27:45Speaker 1: if they're ever gonna do something like this again, which
- 27:48Speaker 1: never say never, right, I would definitely just hold back
- 27:53Speaker 1: on the like, hey, you could read all of just
- 27:56Speaker 1: the adult novels and get the entire story.
- 28:00Speaker 2: So that's just that's my two cents.
- 28:03Speaker 3: And I think I think they did. I think the
- 28:07Speaker 3: conversation will be slightly different when it comes to the
- 28:11Speaker 3: young adult and the adult almost because some of the
- 28:15Speaker 3: stuff that is in the young adult and adult books
- 28:18Speaker 3: is a little too violent for what takes place or
- 28:23Speaker 3: what I would want a middle grader to be able
- 28:25Speaker 3: to read, and like it borders on it a little bit,
- 28:29Speaker 3: and where the nameless and a valiant vow, but it
- 28:32Speaker 3: draws the line, I feel like, pretty perfectly at making
- 28:36Speaker 3: sure some of those things stick out or stay out
- 28:39Speaker 3: of a middle grade book to keep it age appropriate.
- 28:42Speaker 3: So I do think these are great books, but they're
- 28:46Speaker 3: just not meant to be approached in one singular storyline.
- 28:50Speaker 3: It's Phase one is its own story, followed by Phase three,
- 28:54Speaker 3: and then if you want additional material, it's phase two.
- 28:59Speaker 3: And I do think the phase the phase two books
- 29:03Speaker 3: track in a little bit better in the young adult
- 29:07Speaker 3: and adult books because again, it gets into that more
- 29:09Speaker 3: adult content that you don't want in a middle grade book,
- 29:12Speaker 3: and so they just tried to add those contextual elements
- 29:17Speaker 3: in the middle grade books so you still got something.
- 29:20Speaker 3: But at the end of the day. It was not
- 29:26Speaker 3: it didn't track successfully.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, very very true.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Well, this may be one of the shortest episodes we've
- 29:36Speaker 1: had in a very long time, Katie, I don't know
- 29:39Speaker 1: if we have anything else we want to add on.
- 29:42Speaker 3: I don't think so either. But guys, it obviously we
- 29:47Speaker 3: didn't dive into specifics on these stories. This episode wasn't
- 29:50Speaker 3: meant to dive into necessarily those specifics, more towards tracking
- 29:57Speaker 3: things throughout. And again, Clay and I are in the
- 30:00Speaker 3: middle of life changes, so we kind of struggled a
- 30:03Speaker 3: little bit with this one. It'll be it'll be different
- 30:06Speaker 3: with the young adult and adult ones because we'll have
- 30:08Speaker 3: a little bit more time and not having to pack
- 30:10Speaker 3: our families up and move exactly.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Yes, and again, guys, we do have like other thought
- 30:19Speaker 1: piece episodes that are coming up in the calendar that
- 30:26Speaker 1: we have had kind of just kind of juggling stuff
- 30:29Speaker 1: every so often. We've had some stuff in the past
- 30:33Speaker 1: that we wanted to do and then like books were
- 30:35Speaker 1: announced and like release states were change, stuff like that,
- 30:38Speaker 1: and so there's some really fun stuff that we do
- 30:40Speaker 1: plan on having that will be a little bit more uh,
- 30:44Speaker 1: thought provoking.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I guess you could say.
- 30:47Speaker 1: So, I'm sorry if you're a little disappointed by this
- 30:51Speaker 1: short episode, but I promise.
- 30:53Speaker 2: It will get a little needier and a little too here.
- 30:57Speaker 3: Yep. So next week, God, we will be talking about
- 31:04Speaker 3: the Doctor Afra mini series that takes place with the
- 31:10Speaker 3: Star Wars run uh that we just kind of talked about,
- 31:15Speaker 3: that is called Doctor Afra Chaos Agents, uh, and so
- 31:20Speaker 3: that will be next week's talk. We'll talk more on
- 31:23Speaker 3: the box office numbers for Mando as that kind of
- 31:25Speaker 3: like cycles down the theatrical run, the Ninth Jedi trailer,
- 31:32Speaker 3: and then the comic review, and then, like we said
- 31:36Speaker 3: on the sixteenth, on the fifteenth of July, there will
- 31:40Speaker 3: be no live episode of Star Wars Science. You will
- 31:44Speaker 3: get a pre recorded episode, uh talking about about our
- 31:48Speaker 3: review of Star Wars Legacy, which, again, guys, if you
- 31:52Speaker 3: don't know what that book is, that is basically how
- 31:55Speaker 3: Leah and Rey form their Jedi training partnership kind of
- 31:59Speaker 3: trans us from the Last Jedi to where we're at
- 32:02Speaker 3: and rise of Skywalker. And then we'll follow that up
- 32:06Speaker 3: the following week with another prerecorded episode talking about Islac
- 32:10Speaker 3: Stars the first and hopefully a uh continuing genre with
- 32:17Speaker 3: Star Wars Romance from Dela Coorte Press. That book is
- 32:21Speaker 3: called Islac Stars. It takes place before the Force awakens.
- 32:27Speaker 3: And then at the end of the month there will
- 32:30Speaker 3: be uh, we'll be talking about the Star Wars Vision's
- 32:34Speaker 3: Sukomo manga book that comes out. I believe that comes
- 32:39Speaker 3: out on the seventeenth of July, but we're talking about yeah, yeah,
- 32:48Speaker 3: and then guys, I hope you guys enjoyed our review
- 32:54Speaker 3: last week of the New Jedi Order Book two, which
- 32:58Speaker 3: is the Stackpool book. Gosh, I can't think of it
- 33:04Speaker 3: off the top of my head. Yeah, Onslot Dark Tide
- 33:10Speaker 3: one Onslot because we released that last week since we
- 33:15Speaker 3: were off and such things. So if you are not
- 33:19Speaker 3: on our Patreon, that is a book club series that
- 33:22Speaker 3: Claire and I are doing where we're taking one book
- 33:24Speaker 3: a month for the New Jedi Order and talking about
- 33:28Speaker 3: that month to months. So for August, if you guys
- 33:33Speaker 3: are interested, we will be talking about Trader, which, for
- 33:37Speaker 3: those of you who don't know, is Jason Solo's book
- 33:41Speaker 3: in that series.
- 33:43Speaker 1: So I was able to get through the prologue through
- 33:48Speaker 1: my time traveling from from Indiana to Texas because again
- 33:55Speaker 1: for some reason this series.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Is just like, hey, we need prologues that are like
- 33:59Speaker 2: thirty pages long.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Yep.
- 34:05Speaker 3: So but yeah, that's some of the content that you
- 34:08Speaker 3: guys can expect. And then, of course, uh, hopefully we
- 34:13Speaker 3: will be getting the ninth Jedi release schedule and be
- 34:16Speaker 3: able to plan that into our schedule for the rest
- 34:20Speaker 3: of the year.
- 34:21Speaker 1: So, oh, that's a good question. Do you think it's
- 34:23Speaker 1: going to be a all in one draw or do
- 34:26Speaker 1: you think it's gonna be week.
- 34:28Speaker 3: I would hope for weekly. Knowing lucasfilm it's gonna be
- 34:34Speaker 3: a one and done.
- 34:37Speaker 1: I hope that with the work of a different studio.
- 34:46Speaker 2: I really do hope that it's weekly.
- 34:49Speaker 1: I think that'll ring a lot of conversation, especially with
- 34:52Speaker 1: this not being Cannon and just being like a completely
- 34:56Speaker 1: different thing. This might actually be somebody's in production discards
- 35:01Speaker 1: like and so that's the case, I would really love
- 35:05Speaker 1: them to push it two weekly for anticipation.
- 35:09Speaker 3: That's what I would hope too, is that you get
- 35:12Speaker 3: that discussion point. And I would hope that the studio.
- 35:16Speaker 3: I can't remember the studio.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Production, No, this was.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Studio I g.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Oh, I got the directors and the producers but I
- 35:34Speaker 1: don't have the Oh no, I don't know.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I can't get it up in time production.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Yeah, Gane, But yeah, I really do hope that they
- 35:54Speaker 1: like had like some sort of like uh contract said
- 36:00Speaker 1: weekly clause or something that says.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Like, hey, we need a weekly drop. But yeah, guys,
- 36:08Speaker 2: it's gonna be really exciting.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Of course, you can always find me at Fanboy Play,
- 36:13Speaker 1: on Instagram and on Blue Sky and threads.
- 36:18Speaker 2: My wife, the.

- 36:26Speaker 1: be teaming up with me and we're gonna be planning
