- 0:00Back by Jim Moore the Coaches Show. We got a couple of quick things
- 0:03here. The phantom time out called by the Boston College coach. I was
- 0:08watching the coach on that play. He did not call time out. Then
- 0:12he went over to the official and said, I called time out. Then
- 0:15the official went over to the referee and told him, yeah, he called
- 0:17time out, but there was no time out. And I was watching him
- 0:21because I happened to be focused down on that end of the sideline, and
- 0:25they somehow pulled that off. I do not understand it. Do you have
- 0:29any particular thought on what happened there? I know you were upset. I
- 0:33saw you. Yeah. I mean it was poor mechanics by the officials in
- 0:37my opinion. Now they'll say that it wasn't, but that's their opinion.
- 0:40That's fine, and they get the final say. But first of all,
- 0:43it was a false start. And the officially said to me, well,
- 0:47he was coming to call time out before the snap, and as the ball
- 0:51was being snapped he got the time out out. Well, on a false
- 0:56start, there technically is no snap. A false start is not a football
- 1:00play. A false start the clock doesn't run. If it did, they
- 1:04reset the clock. Okay, it's a no play, So the false start
- 1:10happened before the snap because there is no snap. If there's a false start,
- 1:12now they might snap it, but there's no Technically there's no snap.
- 1:15So their explanation made absolutely zero sense. And I told them that. I
- 1:21said, I, your logic is flawed here from a technical aspect, but
- 1:26you know, you got to let it go and you got to go on
- 1:27to the next play. The problem there was that was five valuable yards you
- 1:32should have had. Yeah. Now, but knowing what I know about calling
- 1:36a game is rule number one is you really got to be careful about calling
- 1:41the blitz out of a timeout. And we call the blitz out of a
- 1:45timeout, And so I broke a rule that's pretty important to me. Secondly,
- 1:49I could tell the back was aligned wide and was going to release,
- 1:52and I could have called I could have called time out. I put our
- 1:55players in a really tough spot there, independent of the official skill up the
- 2:00way they did. Yeah, all right, quick thoughts on Tennessee. Uh,
- 2:05we know they score a lot of points, the average thirty a game,
- 2:07but their defense was outstanding against Kentucky last week. Excuse me, they
- 2:12held the running back Ray Davis, who's the leading runner in the SEC to
- 2:15forty two yards two and a half yards of carry. How did they do
- 2:19that? Well? I think they're number seven in the country and run defense
- 2:23and number six and sacks. First of all, they're they're ginormous, they're
- 2:28fast, they're physical, they're strong, they play hard. They're a bunch
- 2:32of four and five stars. They played competition every week. They play well
- 2:38together, and that's how they do it. Mike, all right, coach
- 2:45onto Knoxville. Let's see, let's see if the Huskies can put us No,
- 2:49no, no, no, I don't want that attitude. Let's see.
- 2:51Let's see. Come on, I mean, I don't want to.
- 2:53I don't want to hear that at you. Let's see, how about on
- 2:59their heels shock the world down there? Come on? All right, see
- 3:02that's that's better. All right, appreciate it. All right, back with
- 3:07more of the UKON Football Coaches Show on liar Field.
