- 0:04My name is Victor Furman. Some call me the Voice. I've always been
- 0:10fascinated with human nature, spirituality, science and the crossroads at which they meet.
- 0:17Join me now and we will explore these topics and so much more with
- 0:22fascinating guests, authors and experts who will guide us to Destination unlimited. Is
- 0:34there a way to take a practical approach to demystifying the mystical, enabling us
- 0:41to implement ancient esoteric truths in our daily lives. My guest this week on
- 0:48Destination Unlimited, Phil Webster, took a personal journey through grief into mediumship and
- 0:55the study of ancient and modern metaphysics. Phil Webster is a rie actor and
- 1:00spiritual teacher. After living abroad for twenty years, he returned to the United
- 1:06Kingdom and ventured into acting. After losing his mother in twenty twenty one,
- 1:11he realized that he had been dismissing spiritual calls to action his entire life.
- 1:19His website is Philwebster dot com, and he joins me this week to share
- 1:23his story and his new number one book on Amazon's Hot Releases chart, Glowing
- 1:30Deeper. Please join me in welcoming to Destination Unlimited. Phil Webster. Welcome
- 1:37Phil, Thank you vig so nice, so nice to be here, and
- 1:40thanks for having me, and thank you for joining us. Phil. Please
- 1:42share with our listeners your early path and what your beliefs were or were not
- 1:49in terms of the spiritual and metaphysical. Sure, so, I think when
- 1:55I was a kid, I remember having this very and I suppose a lot
- 1:59of us do. People's circumstances are different how they grow up. But I
- 2:01felt like I had this very innate sense of knowing that that life was just
- 2:06supposed to be fun. You know. I remember walking to school and saying
- 2:09hello to all the trees and stuff like that on the way, and that
- 2:13seemed like a kind of a natural thing to do, you know. And
- 2:17I suppose early on, when I look back on it, I had a
- 2:22There was a lot of I suppose you could call them paranormal experiences around the
- 2:28house. But I kind of, as I grow older and thought back on
- 2:30these things, I thought, well, did they did they really happen or
- 2:32was it just you know, part of my imagination and what have you?
- 2:37And yes, sort of had like a somewhat of a tumultuous childhood. There's
- 2:40a lot of us do like parents breaking up and you know, a stepfather
- 2:45that wasn't my greatest fan, and all these things, but you know,
- 2:50you get through them, and then yeah, I sort of hit my teens
- 2:53and again, like it was seeing that something would come along every now and
- 2:57again. I remember coming across a book on astral projection and thinking that sounded
- 3:00really cool at about fourteen fifteen years old, and this was kind of early
- 3:06nineties, and you know, we didn't have much else to do. I
- 3:09also, I grew up on a place called the Isle of Wight, which
- 3:12is a very rural place and kind of cut off on the rest of England,
- 3:16so there wasn't much to do. So I thought, let's try this
- 3:19astral projection thing, and very quickly, just like laying there and trying to
- 3:23you know, separate from my body, it happened and I was kind of
- 3:29overwhelmed. I didn't really know what to expect. And I remember the thing
- 3:32that that kind of threw me the most was that I had a third perspective,
- 3:38so I could feel myself laying on the bed, I film myself rise
- 3:40abuffet, and I had these sort of both two different sensations. But then
- 3:45I had a third perspective from the side of the room, which I wasn't
- 3:47counting on at all, and that was kind of the thing that just was
- 3:51too much, and I just kind of snapped myself out of it. And
- 3:54a few years later, I remember I was watching some TV show and they
- 3:59had like a somebody called in to speak to a psychic, and this guy
- 4:02described the same third perspective. He said it was as though he were the
- 4:05wall, kind of watching himself float above his body. And I thought,
- 4:09well, all right, maybe that maybe that actually did happen then, you
- 4:12know, so I kind of had a lot, a lot of things that
- 4:15I went to go into as a kid that seemed to pop up, and
- 4:19then I sort of just put it all behind me and just you know,
- 4:25went through my twenties, traveled around a lot, traveled around the world,
- 4:28lived abroad poor for twenty years or so, and sort of developed a bit
- 4:31more of a cynical outlook on life as I went through my thirties. And
- 4:35so I'll just leave it at that. I kind of put it all behind
- 4:38me, and then all of a sudden, a few major things happened.
- 4:43Yes, everything changed for you during the transition of your mother. Please tell
- 4:46us what happened. So yeah, so I'll yeah, I'll go into that
- 4:51and then maybe backtrack a little bit. So with my mom. My mom
- 4:57was seventy six years old when she passed away, and this was in two
- 5:00thousand and one, sorry twenty twenty one, forgive me, at the just
- 5:04at the tail end of the pandemic. So she lived on this island that
- 5:09I mentioned, and again it's a very rural place, and we were in
- 5:14you know, the various lockdowns and what have you. And I'm based in
- 5:16London after coming back to the UK around twenty seventeen. But anyway, so
- 5:20it's a few hours away from me, and I was trying to do the
- 5:24right thing and I would go and see her when restrictions were lifted and we
- 5:28went in lockdowns and what have you. But she grew increasingly lonely over that
- 5:31year living alone. She had a few various age related health problems, like
- 5:35high blood pressure and stuff like that, but she would always bounce back,
- 5:40you know, from any illness, and I kind of expected her to be
- 5:42around for a while. But anyway, I hadn't seen her for a few
- 5:45months and it was January twenty twenty one and we would FaceTime every day,
- 5:50and one evening when I called her, and I think it was the third
- 5:54time we'd spoke that day. She picked up the phone and as she did,
- 6:00or a man leaning in a kind of standing beside her, and I
- 6:02saw him long enough that I could describe him. He had thinning gray hair,
- 6:05glasses, looked like he was maybe late sixties, something like that.
- 6:10And I was kind of taken aback, you know, because we were in
- 6:13a lockdown. Nobody should have been there. I knew everybody that was around
- 6:15her. We didn't have any family there. And I was like, well,
- 6:19who's that? And she's kind of took moved with the phone and he
- 6:23went out of shot and she said who's what? And I was like,
- 6:26okay, well, I said, well the guy. I just I just
- 6:29saw someone and she was like, no, no, you know, there's
- 6:30no one here. And I said, look, mom, I said sorry,
- 6:32but I just saw someone, Like who is it? And she just
- 6:36dismissed it. And I could always tell if there was somebody there, like
- 6:41her whole domeino would change. She would speak a lot posha and then you
- 6:46know, put on these airs and graces. And they always used to drive
- 6:48me nuts, but she wasn't doing any of that, and I kind of
- 6:50questioned her a couple more times, and she just dismissed it and started talking
- 6:55about her day, and I thought, all right, well, I guess
- 6:58I was mistaken. And we spoke for maybe a further forty five minutes,
- 7:01and it was quite late at night. It was around ten o'clock, and
- 7:05you know, I knew all the neighbors and stuff like that, and I
- 7:08thought, all right, well, you know, I was mistaken. So
- 7:12I went to bed that night, and the next morning I received a phone
- 7:15call from one of the neighbors that my mum was having a heart attack and
- 7:17she passed away that morning. So, you know, through the thick of
- 7:24the grief and all that you go through when when you lose somebody close or
- 7:28when you lose a parent, my mind kept going back to that, and
- 7:30I was thinking, Okay, well, what was that. What are we
- 7:32talking here? You know, I believe that there was nobody there, and
- 7:39I thought, are we talking? What? Spirit guides ghosts? And none
- 7:42of those things were kind of of interest to me at the time, and
- 7:46I sort of kept coming back to that, and it didn't really offer me
- 7:48much comfort because I didn't recognize him. He didn't look like an uncall that
- 7:51had passed away or anything like that. So I didn't really know what to
- 7:56do with it. But the logical, you know, that the logical thing
- 8:00to me seemed to be that that that was a supernatural event and somebody was
- 8:05letting me know that she was about to pass. So that that was really
- 8:09the catalyst for me to to dive back into, you know, looking into
- 8:13spiritual into the spiritual aspects of life and what was really the beginning of the
- 8:18book. And you had sued that a few things happened before that. Yeah,
- 8:24so that one of the things that that really did as well as you
- 8:28know, kind of just give me a i don't know, a kickop the
- 8:31but to look into spiritual things. And it sort of reminded me about a
- 8:37few other things that had happened over the years. So there was a couple
- 8:41of events in my mid thirties that I that I sort of again just you
- 8:45know, was happy to put behind me. But then I kind of started
- 8:48looking at it as in a different light as I learned about more spiritual practices.
- 8:52So one specific thing was in my mid thirties, I was living in
- 8:56Helsinki in Finland, and I was running bars and nightclubs at the time,
- 9:00so I kind of had a very cynical outlook on life. You know,
- 9:03every night I was seeing people drunk at the worst. You know, I
- 9:07was sleeping all day, working the nights or six in the morning, probably
- 9:09drinking a bit too much myself, and I just kind of, yeah,
- 9:13I was a little bit living a bit of a self involved life. You
- 9:16know, I wasn't really thinking of anything else other than my owned kind of
- 9:22pursuits. And I woke up one particular morning, I wasn't drunk or anything
- 9:26like that, and I just kind of had this thought. It wasn't a
- 9:30new thought, but I was just thinking about how we only have the moment
- 9:33of now, and you know that it is now all the time, essentially,
- 9:37And I was kind of laying there contemplating this, and then something very
- 9:41profound shifted, and it was as though I were kind of snapped out of
- 9:46the whatever's going on here, and linear time fell away, and it was
- 9:50as though I were above myself observing my own thoughts, and everything just suddenly
- 9:56seemed absurd. And you know, people talk about living in the moment,
- 9:58and you know, sort of being present in the moment of now. But
- 10:03this was overwhelming. It was like that times a thousand, and like I
- 10:07say, linear time fell away, and all of a sudden it was just
- 10:09like now, and it was just now, now, now, And I
- 10:13was like, whoa, okay, this is too much. And I can't
- 10:16emphasize how kind of scary this was. It was as though like a spotlight
- 10:20were being shot on me and I was suddenly woken up to some sort of
- 10:24new version of reality and it was terrifying. And I thought, well,
- 10:31okay, and I tried to walk it off, and that didn't work.
- 10:33I carried on going to work and I was trying to explain to people what
- 10:37was going on, and this thing just didn't stop. And it was twenty
- 10:39four to seven, just just this ultimate awareness of of the present moment.
- 10:43I just couldn't switch off. I couldn't think, well, what am I
- 10:46going to eat for dinner later? Or what did I do last night?
- 10:48Just my brain wouldn't let up that it was just now all the time,
- 10:52and it was exhausting. So I kind of went about my try to get
- 10:56you know, thinking that this thing would wear off, and I ended up
- 11:00go into a doctor a few weeks later, and I pretty much explained how
- 11:03I just said it to you, and they said, well, yeah,
- 11:05that sounds like psychosis, which wasn't something that I ever thought would be,
- 11:09you know, on my cards, which terrified me. And the doctor gave
- 11:13me a bunch of meds, anti anxiety pills, sleeping pills, stuff like
- 11:16that. The sleeping pills would knock me out and then I'd wake up and
- 11:20the whole thing would just start over again, just this ultimate, you know,
- 11:24moment of just being ultra present, and the anxiety meds didn't touch it,
- 11:30gave it. A couple more weeks, went to another doctor, same
- 11:33diagnosis, psychosis, and I was like, hey, this does not you
- 11:35know. I was getting scared at this point. It was as though I
- 11:39felt like I was hanging on by like a slippery hanging onto like a slippery
- 11:43bar by my fingernails of whatever I thought reality was. And I got to
- 11:48say, it was overwhelming, and it just didn't let up. And maybe
- 11:52about three months in I started thinking, Okay, if this is the way
- 11:54that my brain's going to work now, and I don't mean to take this
- 11:56down the dark path, but I thought, well, I'm out of here,
- 12:00this just this doesn't work for me. You know. I really felt
- 12:03like I was losing my mind, and I ended up finding a psychiatrist,
- 12:09and amazingly this guy was and I was in Helsinki still, but this guy
- 12:13was like the one medical professional that seemed to understand sort of more spiritual,
- 12:20had a more spiritual outlook on things, and he was like, no,
- 12:22no, no, man. He was like, you're fine, You're you're
- 12:22having an awakening, that's what's going on. And I was like, okay,
- 12:26well whatever, just just make it stop, you know, I would
- 12:28just want to get back to the herd and I get on with my life,
- 12:33you know. And anyway, he gave me a very basic grounding meditation
- 12:37and almost instantly brought me back. I mean it didn't it didn't last that
- 12:41this whole kind of thing started up again. But I just did this meditation
- 12:46every day, and very very gradually I kind of started, you know,
- 12:50sort of coming back online or offline, depending on which way, which way
- 12:54you look at this whole thing. And yeah, you know, it would
- 12:58get to the point that I would have one good day in the week,
- 13:00then it was two good days and a little bit later, and then you
- 13:03know, over the course of about a year, I sort of, you
- 13:05know, returned to normal and I was like, well, thank god that
- 13:09was over and put it behind me. But one of the things that he'd
- 13:11said at the time, in my mid thirties, that he believed that I
- 13:15was a mystic, and I was like, well, well the hell does
- 13:16that mean? Right? And he was talking about things like shamanic sickness and
- 13:20all these other things I wasn't really interested in, and you know, I
- 13:24just put the whole experience behind me. So that was one thing, and
- 13:28that was a pretty major one. But yeah, there were a couple more,
- 13:31but I feel like I talked I talked a bit too long about that.
- 13:33No, not at all. So you had these experiences, then you
- 13:37had the transition of your mother and the experience that happened. Then how did
- 13:41these things change your life and lead you to the pursuit of learning about mediumship?
- 13:46Yeah, well I would say that. Like I say, I kind
- 13:50of put that one behind me. And then when I started looking back on
- 13:54it, it was seemed that about every five years or so, it was
- 13:56those something was tapping me on the shoulder, you know, And up until
- 14:00my mom passed, I just ignored it or I dealt with it the best
- 14:03way I could and then put it behind me, like the like the experience
- 14:07I has talked about, but after losing my mom. I mean, I'm
- 14:11sure some of your listeners have been through this as well, and you know,
- 14:13it's such a life changing thing. Is it's you know, there was
- 14:18this person that's just been the witness to your whole life and they're suddenly not
- 14:20there anymore, and it's it's you know, it felt like stepping into an
- 14:24alternate reality. You know, there was one where my mom was here,
- 14:26and then there's one where she wasn't, and you know, it changed everything.
- 14:31It really felt like, even though I'm in my late forties, it
- 14:33really felt like that whatever last i don't know, peace of childhood was left
- 14:39or was was, you know, absolutely gone. You know, it's just
- 14:41me now, and I suppose it really took the wind out of me.
- 14:50And I was just kind of slowly beginning to obsess over what the who the
- 14:54guy on the call was. So I started reading some sort of you know,
- 14:56the standard sort of spiritual literature Neil Donald Walsh and things that I'd read
- 15:01over the years here and there, and then that led me to a book
- 15:05by a medium called Claire broad So Claire. I didn't know who she was
- 15:11when I picked the book up. She could have been from the States or
- 15:13Australia or the UK or whatever. And I started reading this book and it
- 15:18opened with her opening scene was taking a place across the street from where I
- 15:22lived in London, at a cemetery that I could see from my window,
- 15:26which I thought was like, Okay, well that's kind of weird, you
- 15:28know, like she could have been from anywhere, and there was this instant
- 15:31connection, like I could literally look out of my window and see what she
- 15:35was talking about in the first chapter of a book. And I read her
- 15:39whole book, and very shortly afterwards I noticed that she had a class coming
- 15:43up at a place called the College of Psychic Studies in London, which sounded
- 15:48I'd heard of it before, and I thought it sounded ridiculous. I was
- 15:52like, well, what's this like the X men's school that's coming And anyway,
- 15:54I ended up going along to her class and I told her those stories
- 15:58that I told you, along with a couple of others, and she was
- 16:02like, yeah, yeah, that that makes perfect sense, and she kind
- 16:03of gave me a very different perspective on it all to you know, other
- 16:08people kind of dismissing it, and almost kind of took me under her wing,
- 16:14and she just yes, she kind of opened the door to mediumship.
- 16:17And then the next kind of thing that was really the game changer was walking
- 16:21into a spiritualist church one night and a lady was given to a demonstration of
- 16:25mediumships. So nobody knew that I was showing up, and this was really
- 16:29my first experience with a medium outside of Claire's book, and probably before I
- 16:33met Claire, I must say. And this lady, she was going around
- 16:37the church, around the small congregation there and giving people evidence of people that
- 16:41had passed over, and she was getting affirmation after affirmation, and I was
- 16:45saying, okay, well this seems to be like a this thing is seemed
- 16:48legit. You know. People were burst into bursting into tears and just like
- 16:52confirming everything she was talking about. And she eventually came to me and she
- 16:56started talking about a young man that had passed away when we were when I
- 17:02was young, and I, to be honest, I had no idea what
- 17:04she was talking about for about five or ten minutes, and then she started
- 17:07talking about me becoming a medium or being a voice for spirit was how she
- 17:11put it. And I was like, well, funny because I just started
- 17:15reading about this stuff. But anyway, I didn't really have any aspiration for
- 17:18that. And then right at the end and then I kind of finally realized
- 17:22who she was talking about. And I realized she was talking about a friend
- 17:25of mine who'd passed away when we were both like early twenties. And then
- 17:29and then she said, oh, well, I have a lady here that's
- 17:32passed very recently, and she described my mom physically, and I kind of
- 17:36got a lump in my throat, you know. And the game changer was
- 17:38really the lady that the medium. Her her accent changed, so she had
- 17:44a very strong London Cockney accent, and then suddenly she switched to this Northern
- 17:48English accent, which which was like what my mom sounded like, and she
- 17:52just used my mum's words, you know, And it was a very brief
- 17:56message, but again that that really changed everything. That was kind of another
- 18:02thing that just was like, all right, this is I'm looking at everything
- 18:04differently now, and just confirm for me that that I believe that my mum,
- 18:11you know, was still a witness to my life, and that that
- 18:15really opened the door and I thought, well, I'm going to start documenting
- 18:18this because there's quite a lot here already, you know. And over the
- 18:22course of that next year had so many amazing things happen that I write about
- 18:26in the book, and through the book up just kind of told my story.
- 18:30And the books called Letting Glow, by the way, that's the first
- 18:33book, and you know, in theory the reader could go along with me,
- 18:38do the meditations that are in there, and possibly open up and maybe
- 18:42go towards mediumship if that's an interest in this. And that was your first
- 18:47book, as you mentioned last year, the part of a trilogy called Letting
- 18:49Glow, A Guide to Intuition, Spirituality, and Living Consciously. What else
- 18:56did you share with your readers in that book? I pretty much. I
- 19:00just I was kind of writing, I suppose you could call it in real
- 19:03time, so as I was learning, I was just writing all these things
- 19:06down, and you know, I was pouring my grief into it also,
- 19:08So it's a bit of a mixed bag, and I feel like it might
- 19:11be a bit of a people Some people have told me that it's difficult to
- 19:14categorize the book because I'm talking about my personal grief that I hope would possibly
- 19:19help somebody else that might be going through the same thing. I'm learning about
- 19:23all these amazing things spiritual, spirituality wise, and then it's kind of autobiographical
- 19:30as well, because that I then sort of go back and document all these
- 19:33things that would happen every few years, you know, in a spiritual sense.
- 19:37So yeah, by the end of it, I feel that, you
- 19:40know, the reader, it's almost like a soft introduction to spirituality would be
- 19:44the way that I would put it. Yeah, and how did you arrive
- 19:47with the title Letting Glow? Well, it was just a play on grief
- 19:52really, you know, I was kind of coming to terms with losing my
- 19:56mum, but then I was learning about all these amazing things that was just
- 20:00opening up this whole new world for me. And I really felt like,
- 20:03Okay, I've always been someone that's never really found my place in the world.
- 20:07You know, I've dabbled with this and that, but I never really
- 20:10found a solid career path or I couldn't really get excited about making money for
- 20:15somebody else, you know, anything like that. And it started feeling like,
- 20:18oh, this this feels like this has been my thing all along,
- 20:22you know, and especially when I kind of went back and and reevaluated all
- 20:26these all these signs along the way that I just ignored and everything kind of
- 20:30fell into place, and it was almost almost like a parting gift for my
- 20:33mum, you know, in a weird way. So it was this very
- 20:37bittersweet kind of a journey. So yeah, I want, I wanted to
- 20:41acknowledge that I'm you know, letting go of you know, that that part
- 20:45of my life, but also that something new was starting. Absolutely, it
- 20:52seems that it's really important to you to demystify the mystical. Why so absolutely
- 20:59I think that you know, we all have these moments of and you know,
- 21:04and this is coming from somebody as well, like I say myself when
- 21:07I I did become very cynical for a while, but we still have these
- 21:11moments of intuition and you know, know, ang, or you walk into
- 21:15the room and you can say you can cut the air with a knife if
- 21:18someone's been having an argument, and we all agree that that's that's a real
- 21:21thing, or you know, we can't put our finger on something, or
- 21:25we have all these terms. But then if you start using words like Clare
- 21:29sentience or Claire audience or something like that. Then people typically, you know,
- 21:33like just sort of dismiss you and look at you liking nuts. But
- 21:36I think we're essentially talking about the same thing, you know. I think
- 21:38that we're talking about a sixth sense, and it's just a question of semantics
- 21:44at the end of the day, you know, It's just just the way
- 21:47that you want to kind of approach it. And I feel like that we
- 21:49all have probably have these mystical experiences here and there, but they're always typically
- 21:56so fleeting that we just dismissed them, you know, and move on.
- 21:57So I that's kind of what I mean by demystifying the mystical. I think
- 22:02we all have these moments, but it just takes a while to kind of
- 22:07acknowledge them and then tune in. I had one. My mother passed away
- 22:11in January of twenty twenty. Oh I can thank you, yes, And
- 22:15she was eighty six at the time, and she had been ill for quite
- 22:18some time. But I had this vision of circles and rings in my mind's
- 22:25eye after her passing, and it continued for several months, and it manifested
- 22:30a poem that came through me that I think you would appreciate. I'd like
- 22:33to share it with you if I may do. Yeah, says the path
- 22:37of great beauty, and so many things, from atoms to galaxies, circles
- 22:42and rings, natural wisdom that dwells there within, from not to three sixty,
- 22:49that magical spin. We circle each other in Gravity's dance as Guy a
- 22:55circle soul, the solar romance as Luna circles us in life giving motion,
- 23:02drawing the tides and inner emotion. And the age of the oak is found
- 23:07in its rings, as in woman and man and all living things. And
- 23:12when the rings stop and life comes to an end, we'll all circle back
- 23:18and dance once again. Beautiful, beautiful. I think that pretty much sums
- 23:25it all up very nicely. Thank you. My guest is Phil Webster.

- 24:33Unlimited. My guest this week is Phil Webster. His new book is entitled
- 24:37Glowing Deeper. Phil, What inspired you to write the second pork in your
- 24:42trilogy, Glowing Deeper? So? When not finished Letting Glow? Like I
- 24:48say, it was a very cathartic kind of it definitely helped me for that
- 24:52first year of grief. But I learned so much about what food mediums and
- 24:59learning about different spiritual practices that I felt by the end of it that I'd
- 25:03moved on in leaps and bounds from the beginning, you know, and I
- 25:06felt like immediately I just wanted to carry on. Also felt a little bit
- 25:10of a loss when I finished the first book. And not that I wasn't
- 25:12dealing with a grief. I was very much, very much dealing with it
- 25:15and in the thick of it and just kind of letting it all manifest.
- 25:22But I just felt like, yeah, I've got I've got another book right
- 25:23here already. So the second book's kind of less about my journey, although
- 25:29it's in there, but it's more about, you know, just sort of
- 25:33like a again, going a little bit further with different spiritual practice. Also
- 25:37kind of thought, well, what would I like to read about? So
- 25:41there's a lot of stuff in there, there's a in the middle of it.
- 25:42I've just decided to go off on a sort of a bit of a
- 25:45if you can call it, fun section about talking about esoteric traditions, such
- 25:49as what I believe are the origins of witchcraft. There's some stuff about so
- 25:56very basically things about shamanism, Celtic traditions and things like that, the history
- 26:03of the tarot, all those kind of things, and how are those paths
- 26:07relevant to a book about raising one's consciousness. Yeah. Well, interestingly,
- 26:11as I as I wrote them, they all sort of and this is how
- 26:15these things tend to work out, you know. I didn't really know where
- 26:17I was going with these things, but at the end of it, I
- 26:18thought, well that it all tied in nicely, you know, especially when
- 26:23I was talking about witchcraft. I just sort of dove into that because I
- 26:26found it very interesting. I'd recently started a course at the University of Barcelona
- 26:32about studying witchcraft in the Middle Ages, and I found the whole thing really
- 26:37fascinating, you know, because as we're talking now, back back in the
- 26:41day would have been burned at the stake already, you know, we're talking
- 26:45like this. So it was such an interesting history and I definitely learned a
- 26:51lot through that. But one of interesting thing that I found about it was,
- 26:53you know, people especially in this country or in the UK in general,
- 26:59believing in you know, fairies and elves and all that kind of stuff,
- 27:02which wasn't really something that I've ever taken that seriously. I kind of
- 27:06realized that I was being a little bit disrespectful. There's such a rich history
- 27:08there, you know, and it's tied into medicine, and food and all
- 27:12these things that you know, we sort of that have turned into our everyday
- 27:17lives today. And we've got all these sayings and all these kinds of things
- 27:19that that really tied back to these ancient traditions, and I feel that a
- 27:23lot of it was just early manifestation techniques. And at the end of the
- 27:29day, if somebody was a cast a spell or a curse or you know,
- 27:33a spell of protection or those things, they're essentially just I mean the
- 27:37way that I see it, and I hope I'm not going to offend any
- 27:40wicked people here, you know, given affirmations or you know, sort of
- 27:45desires for the future, you know, like like what you want to happen,
- 27:48you're just speaking it into reality and concentrating on that. And I saw
- 27:52parallels between you know, how we talked today about manifesting our best lives and
- 27:57all that kind of fun stuff. What did you discover in your studies about
- 28:02feminine mysticism and feminine magic? A lot it's just just a very unfair treatment
- 28:10of particularly of women, as we all know, you know, from even
- 28:15if you haven't really looked that deeply into it. We all know about the
- 28:18scene on Witch trials and all that kind of stuff. Yeah, one thing
- 28:22that I found really fascinating was and I'll just have to look at my notes
- 28:26here, because unfortunately this stuff doesn't roll off my tongue so easily. But
- 28:30yeah, towards the end of the twelve hundreds, there was there was a
- 28:36somebody that they were called Begins. It's not spelled. It's kind of you
- 28:40would pronounce it like big inn, but it's it's got more of a twister
- 28:42it when you spell it. But it was kind of like a new genre
- 28:47of mysticism that evolved into a kind of a speculative, speculative kind of sense
- 28:52of knowing rather than the rhetoric of the religion at the time, and pretty
- 28:56much how we experienced mediumship and spirituality today. And it had spaces in Christianity,
- 29:00but it was more to do with just you know, believing that the
- 29:04divine or the universe or the all that is at an intuitive level was really
- 29:11you know, where it's at, rather than rather than forehead following the you
- 29:14know, the religious doctrines of the time. And and I just found these
- 29:18these characters very interesting. So there were there weren't nuns, but they almost
- 29:22did the job of nuns, but they didn't have the confines of the church,
- 29:26but they would work with nuns and they would work with monks. But
- 29:30they started getting the blame for a lot of stuff because they were kind of
- 29:33spouting this very you know, poetic rhetoric of spirituality, and essentially the church
- 29:38didn't like them and just started buying them at the stake. There was one
- 29:42story that I came across about and sorry, this, how can I put
- 29:48this without it sending to graphics. So they lived in the next door to
- 29:53the monastery of monks around this period of time, and monks started talking of
- 29:59how very overly pleasant dreams. I think that's the plightest way to put it.
- 30:03And the immediate culprit was these these women, these begins that got the
- 30:07blame because they were the ones that were, you know, spouting all of
- 30:11this free love kind of stuff. And I really felt that that was of
- 30:15course, the witch was mentioned in the Bible as well, but it really
- 30:18felt that that was the beginning of the witch as we kind of knowa today.
- 30:23And they essentially, yeah, that that's where the burning at the stakes
- 30:27started and went through the fifteenth eighteenth centuries, and yeah, they again,
- 30:33these women, they lot of wrote, I wrote a lot of poetry,
- 30:37published on poetry, and refused to sort of you know, take them off
- 30:41bookshelves. And yeah, they essentially started the church started burning them at the
- 30:45stake and turned witch hunting into a into a into a thing. Now.
- 30:52I wonder if men had started this practice, if they would have received the
- 30:56same punishment, exactly, I wonder. I wonder. Yeah, there was
- 31:00to it that I'd like to say, but it's not it's not on the
- 31:03on the top of my head. But yeah, there was a lot around
- 31:06that as well that you know, initially, and we're going back to sort
- 31:08of ancient Mesopotamia, the women had the you know that were very much revered
- 31:14like as healers and spiritual healers, and and at some point, from what
- 31:18I understood, men just didn't really like this anymore and and sort of stepped
- 31:22in and took on the role of exorcists and all these kind of things and
- 31:26control. It's all about control exactly, exactly. Yeah, and it manifests
- 31:33in many different ways, not only in that way. So very unfortunate.
- 31:37Yeah, just just to finish that up, like one of the most fascinating
- 31:40things as well, was that the so that we had something in the UK
- 31:44called the Witchcraft Act, which was essentially was you know, legal witch hunting,
- 31:48and that wasn't abolished until nineteen fifty one, which is my goodness.
- 31:52I mean, I don't think anyone was doing it anymore, but but if
- 31:53you did, it would be legal. Unbelievable. Please share with us about
- 32:00your time studying with the Shabans. Well, I've met a couple of interesting
- 32:06people along the way. I was always a fan of coming to the States.
- 32:10I traveled around Mexico briefly, and well, when I say briefly,
- 32:15I didn't really stay in any one place for very long. Also, around
- 32:20the Caribbean, I was kind of lucky enough to see all that. I
- 32:23would love to see much more of America, that's for sure, and Canada
- 32:27too. But yeah, along the way, I was lucky enough to study
- 32:31with a couple of Shamans, one man called Puma Singona and Manari Ushiga,
- 32:37who is part of the Sapara nation. I'm not going to sort of go
- 32:42into their story. I think it's their story, but what I found was
- 32:45the what I was really intrigued by were very much the similarities between their way
- 32:51of looking at the world and essentially mediumship. Like I felt that a lot
- 32:57of what they talked about, especially meditation and journeying as they would call it,
- 33:02they're essentially you know, guided meditations like we would do today. And
- 33:07I felt like there was very strong parallels between their beliefs and particularly with mediumship.
- 33:14Yeah. I had taken a class many years ago and there was a
- 33:16teacher who was a shaman from South America. Yeah, and he used to
- 33:21talk about in the practice that he did of sitting down and allowing the energy
- 33:27field to open up before him, and being able to see and identify aberrations
- 33:31in the energy field and being able to work with and correct those. Did
- 33:36you experience that also, Yeah? Absolutely, I mean it all sounds very
- 33:39familiar. I think that. I mean, this sounds if I'd have heard
- 33:42somebody say this a few years ago, I would have just instantly dismissed it.
- 33:45But in learning about mediumship and learning about spirit guides, you know,
- 33:51it seems that everybody in their and their grandmother in these communities has a has
- 33:54a Indigenous American as a spirit guide, you know, And almost to the
- 34:02point that it's slightly offensive, I think so I'm sort of trying to tread
- 34:07very lightly here, but I did have a really fascinating experience that in meditation
- 34:13that a lady sort of appeared and presented herself to me, and she presented
- 34:16herself as a young Native American, which I thought was amazing. And I've
- 34:22got a couple of words come through, and this sounds a little bit random
- 34:27or whatever, but humblebee was one strange word that came fu and it was
- 34:31very the whole vision was like part of nature. And she presented me with
- 34:35a sunflower, and then this word humbleby stuck with me and I thought,
- 34:38well, what a strange way to talk about a bee, right, I'd
- 34:43never heard anyone say that before. And I kind of looked this up,
- 34:45just you know, this term up straight after the meditation, and apparently that
- 34:51was like a way to describe a bumblebee. The that it was, yeah,
- 34:58that they would refer to them as humblebe And I've never heard of this
- 35:00before, and I kind of just you know, these things tend to pop
- 35:04in that I believe aren't part of you know, something that I've heard before
- 35:07and I've just sort of stored away or what have you. There's been more
- 35:10profound things than that. But the next night I did go to watch another
- 35:15demonstration of mediumship, and when the way I talk about this, I was
- 35:19only doing it, probably only did it five or six times at the same
- 35:22church, and the medium came to me and he immediately bought up something about
- 35:29a Native American lady with me, and I said, well, that's kind
- 35:30of interesting because I believe I met a last night, you know, and
- 35:35pretty much described what I saw, so that really, you know, pieced
- 35:39my interest in looking into those traditions as well. But yeah, I feel
- 35:44like it's almost a rite of passage as the medium to sort of look into
- 35:50look into those traditions, and you know, sort of it's it's a very
- 35:54sensitive subject because again I don't want to, I don't want to, you
- 35:58know, bringe on on any cultural appropriation, you know. So I feel
- 36:02like that it's yeah, that it's it's kind of a I'd sort of dove
- 36:07into it headlong and thinking wow, this is amazing and learning all of these
- 36:10things, and and then sort of as I've step back a little, I
- 36:14thought, well, is it mine to share? You know, It's it's
- 36:15not really my story. I'm just kind of just fascinated by the again by
- 36:21the similarities. There's a fascinating section in Glowing Deeper that goes very deeply into
- 36:27the metaphysics of time and living in them. Now, which is something you
- 36:31had experienced, Please elaborate on this and what inspired it. Well, I
- 36:36just think it's such a you know, it's such an interesting thing. Like
- 36:38I had that very overwhelming experience that that very much left a mark on me,
- 36:43and I feel that that keeps coming up again and again, Like I
- 36:46keep coming back to that. As much as I'm very much interested in mediumship,
- 36:52it seems to be that that I feel that that's my I don't know
- 36:57if it's a gift, but after that whole experience that I had, I
- 37:00felt like I came away with a very well new way of looking at the
- 37:04world. I felt a lot humbler. I felt like my ego had been
- 37:06smashed to pieces. You know, I very much thought that I was sort
- 37:09of going out of my mind for one of a better term. I would
- 37:13never, you know, sort of dismiss mental illness of anyone's anymore, but
- 37:20it was it was such an overwhelming experience. It kind of left a trace
- 37:23with me, and I felt very able to just sort of tune into the
- 37:28moment of now kind of a will, you know, and I found I
- 37:32know a lot of people find meditation quite difficult or visualization and things like that,
- 37:37and I feel like it comes kind of easy. And I believe that
- 37:40it was probably to do with that experience, you know, of just sort
- 37:44of tuning right into this moment. But yeah, you know, if you
- 37:47look at science that it seems to be that they've got two various different schools
- 37:52have thought on it, and one is that there is an A to B.
- 37:54You know, that we have a past and we have a future or
- 37:58the end of this timeline that is that is moving forward, and we've all
- 38:01got these shared experiences in the past that we can agree upon and that's behind
- 38:06of and behind us, forgive me. And then you know, the other
- 38:08other sense is that there is only now and there's always only ever been now,
- 38:13and that is ultimate reality, and time as we as we measure it
- 38:17doesn't really exist because it's just now all the time. And that opens up
- 38:22a huge, a huge conversation, like I don't even know how to articulate
- 38:28it just off the top of my head, but essentially, if everything's sorry,
- 38:31Yeah, no, go ahead, I'm sorry. No. No.
- 38:34Well, you know, if if all we ever had have had is now
- 38:37and all we've got us now, then then it sort of opens up the
- 38:39idea that, you know, everything that's ever happened is happening right now,
- 38:43and everything that could ever happen is possibly happening right now on you know,
- 38:47and that sort of goes into multi dimensions and the theory that there are different
- 38:52timelines going off in every direction that we can switch to. And and that's
- 38:55really sort of where when people talk about manifestation, you know, that essentially
- 39:00leads to that. And you share a series of wonderful meditations in Glowing Deeper,
- 39:07and one of them is just about that about living in the now.
- 39:08Would you share it with us? Absolutely? Yeah, it's a very light
- 39:12one. It's not you know, no one's going to end up having the
- 39:15experience that I had first hand of. But this is I think this is
- 39:19a really nice introduction to just sort of being with the present moment, and
- 39:23it's beneficial. I think no matter what kind of direction you're going, whether
- 39:28you're interested in mediumship or not, I feel that we could all just you
- 39:30know, take a moment and just be aware of our surroundings. Another benefit
- 39:35to this one is that it's if you find meditation difficult, this is one
- 39:38way you can really use your surroundings or any sort of distractions actually to take
- 39:43you deeper into it. So, first of all, sit in a comfortable
- 39:47position with a straight back, close your eyes, and then take a few
- 39:51deep, grounding breaths, either through your nose and mouth, whichever you prefer.
- 39:58Now that you're breathing with turns and no, and simply pay attention to
- 40:00it for a few moments. If your brain the dense, attempts to distract
- 40:04you with random thoughts, then just bring your focus back to your breath.
- 40:10Next, begin to notice your heartbeat, Feel it in your chest. Notice
- 40:15the beautiful symmetry between your heart beating and your breath flowing in and out,
- 40:19out of sync but completely in unison. Meditate on your heartbeat, your mother's
- 40:25heartbeat. What's the first thing that you experience in your suspended state in the
- 40:29womb. Even if you are able to physically hear, you can still tune
- 40:32into your own rhythm of your own heart and your breath. The breath flows
- 40:37in and out, the heart dictates the rhythm of your life, and you
- 40:39can always connect back to your original home the heartbeat that your mother passed from
- 40:45myself to you. Take time to sit with it now and explore the deeper
- 40:50connections that you have. Now, begin to notice the sounds in your environment.
- 40:59In fact, take all of your attention to the sounds in your environment.
- 41:01Imagine that for the time being, it's your only sense. Scan the
- 41:06world around you for sound. Notice as many as you can. Spend a
- 41:08few seconds on each sound, and then move to the next. Don't give
- 41:12them a backstory, just simply hear them, note them, and move on.
- 41:15A clock ticking, a car passing by, a dog barking, a
- 41:21door being slammed, the washing machine weirring. Now slowly expand your hearing to
- 41:30distance sounds. Maybe there's a train rolling by somewhere far away. Perhaps there's
- 41:35the laughter of children and a playground across the street. Focus for a few
- 41:38seconds on each sound, zoom in on it with your ears. Let the
- 41:44other sounds fall away as your focus becomes laserlike and moves across great distances to
- 41:47experience the sound in the here and then. Now, all you're doing is
- 41:52listening and being aware now, bring your awareness back to your breath and pay
- 42:04attention to it. Listen to the sound of your breathing, and let it
- 42:07connect you with your place in the world, in the here and the now.
- 42:12Let all of the sounds around you blend with the sound of your breath.
- 42:15Whatever sounds arise, simply take note of them in an unbreaking stream of
- 42:20awareness of the ongoing moment of now. There is only now. When you're
- 42:29ready, let the sounds drift back out to your peripheral awareness, and bring
- 42:31your attention back to your physical self sitting in the present moment. Feel your
- 42:37feet on the floor, fail your hands on your lap, the arms of
- 42:39your chair. Become aware of any itches or blitches throughout your body, Take
- 42:45a deep breath, and lope anyways. Thank you so much for sharing that
- 42:53with us and helping us to achieve that state of being in the now without
- 42:59the distractions normally interrupt aren't they. My guest is Phil Webster. His book

- 46:01every memory that we have, like you know, fits nicely into something that
- 46:05we can relate to. You know, when we experience something, we typically
- 46:08have like a comparison to an event from the past that we can you know,
- 46:13compare it to, and and then it becomes relatable, you know,
- 46:16basically your likes and dislikes it, you know, and this happens like in
- 46:20an instant For example, you know, you'll see somebody, let's say,
- 46:22at a party that has red hair, and that person will remind you of
- 46:24somebody else that you know who had red hair, and and you'll make it
- 46:29an instant decision sort of based on them, whether whether you like them or
- 46:31not. But you know, or you can be walking down a street and
- 46:37you know, a car will go over a bump and make a loud bang
- 46:39and make a jump. But then instantly your brain will be like, okay,
- 46:43I recognize that, and I don't know what that means. A car
- 46:45going over a bump, makes a loud noise, there's no threat, and
- 46:47you get on with your day. But I also feel that, you know,
- 46:51when we have a mystical experience, the brain then tries to do the
- 46:53same thing. It kind of tries to relate it to something that's happened in
- 46:57the past, and but it recognizes experiences is new, and it kind of
- 47:00doesn't know what to do with it, you know, because it's not it's
- 47:02not familiar territory. So I think that these experiences, they often come in
- 47:07as feelings, you know, even as a physical feeling that doesn't have any
- 47:12logic behind it, like for example, your your hair stands up on the
- 47:15back of your neck or something like that. Or then it's just typically like
- 47:19an innate sense of knowing that that's that's purely subjective and brand new and you've
- 47:23got no experience to compare it with, and you know, or sometimes you
- 47:28know, you'll see something that doesn't make any sense, such as a man
- 47:31standing next to your mum on a on a video call, you know.
- 47:37So I feel that the first few times that we have something like this happened,
- 47:39you know, we we easily dismiss them, particularly when they happen out
- 47:44of context to you know, the rest of your day. But I think
- 47:47that when we start taking note of them, then they start happening more often.
- 47:53And you know, I suppose a skeptic could say that, well,
- 47:57you know, when you start looking for these kind of you know, intangible
- 48:00things, then you're going to see more of them. But I feel that
- 48:04that's truly how it works. And the experiences that I had over that first
- 48:07year in particular, when I really started taking note of them and then sitting
- 48:10in meditation and kind of opening myself up to these to these events that you
- 48:15know, that I was welcoming in that they did start happening more often,
- 48:21and then I did have something to compare them to. And there was a
- 48:22few sort of quite profound ones that you know, that I experienced that the
- 48:28other people that I was with experience. And then again learning about mediumship,
- 48:31you know, some of the you know, I'm very much at the start
- 48:34of my journey with it, but in practice, some of the information that
- 48:37I've gave to people, I know that I don't know those things, you
- 48:40know, I'll just go with what I see and and so far, so
- 48:45good, you know, I seem to be getting a pretty good success rate
- 48:47with it. So I think, at the end of the day, yeah,
- 48:50you know, you just got to really the key is to just start
- 48:53trusting your intuition and and you know what really feels true to you. And
- 49:00I think the key to finding that is again back to meditation. One of
- 49:05the gifts that have raced my life since my mid to late thirties have been
- 49:09synchronicities, which are meaningful coincidences without causal connection, according to the Carl Jung
- 49:16who defined it that way. And I found that every time one of these
- 49:21synchronicities occur, I have three choices. I could either say dismiss it out
- 49:25of hand. I could say, you know, that's interesting, but not
- 49:29right now. Where I could say yes and embrace it right now. And
- 49:31every time I would say that, big why, yes, the next one
- 49:36would come, and the next one would come. Is that what we're talking
- 49:37about? Yeah? I believe it is. I believe it is. Yeah,
- 49:42it's worth taking notes of these things. You know. I just feel
- 49:45like again, I know, I sort of keep hopping back to meditation again,
- 49:50but I feel that's really the key to you know, we all have
- 49:53and I'm not the first person to say this, but we all, you
- 49:57know, we've got these constant this constant variage of thoughts come and then you
- 50:00know, we're thinking about up team, you know, things at the same
- 50:02time. And I feel that when you can just take a few moments to
- 50:07step back from that and realize that we're not those thoughts and that you're kind
- 50:12of this observer at the back of it all watching this whole thing play out,
- 50:15then you begin to recognize that inner voice, you know. And the
- 50:17more you get to recognize that in a voice, I feel that that that's
- 50:21the one that takes notice. That's like the sign and observer in the background
- 50:24that will tell you that when these things do come up or whatever, they
- 50:28may be mystical events of all sorts. I think of an example. Then
- 50:34you start to realize, ah, I think these are these are actually a
- 50:37thing, and you start taking notice. And yeah, and I believe that
- 50:40synchronisis is especially the thing seems to start flowing when when you can get into
- 50:45that, into that state of just trusting your intuition. What is what you
- 50:50call the slipstream super highway. Ah, thank you, Yeah, well that's
- 50:55exactly what I'm talking about. I think that's just acknowledging that, but that
- 51:00we really have this, that there's this you know, other other kind of
- 51:06other realities running alongside us that we don't really take any notice of. You
- 51:08know, we get caught up and paying the bills and and you have to
- 51:12write you know, we are having a physical experience. We you know,
- 51:15bills have to be paid. You know, you've got to feed your kids,
- 51:19We've got to you know, do all these things to make ends meet.
- 51:22But I think there is something a more subtler world running along beside us.
- 51:27And I believe that if you once you jump onto it, then you
- 51:30can really you know, just just jump on for the ride. And that's
- 51:32h Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, the slipstream super Highway. And
- 51:36I also believe that, you know that that kind of branches out into talking
- 51:40about I think a popular term in in spiritual communities at the moment is talking
- 51:45about shifting timelines and you know, sort of seeing yourself on that on that
- 51:51timeline where where you would rather be. And I genuinely believe that it's possible.
- 51:54There's nuts as this sounds, and I would have thought this was nuts
- 51:57a few years ago. It's very genuinely possible to jump over onto one of
- 52:02those timelines. Yeah, how may we learn to find and connect with our
- 52:07guides and more importantly listen to them? Absolutely again, So I'm like a
- 52:13broken record with this, But meditation it really is the key. And if
- 52:19you know, somebody finds it difficult to kind of sit in the stillness for
- 52:22a moment, one thing you really don't have to do is, you know,
- 52:25try too hard, Like, don't worry we're going to get distracted by
- 52:29thoughts. You know when I sit in meditation, I'm getting distracted by my
- 52:32thoughts all the time. The key is to just come back to the breath
- 52:36and just come back to the moment and come back to your physical self.
- 52:38And then and then the thoughts tend to sort of go out, keep going
- 52:43in the background once you don't take any notice of them. And I feel
- 52:46like when you get good at recognizing that you're not part of that whole you
- 52:51know, passing parade that's just going to keep trying to distract her all the
- 52:53whole time, then you start to become aware of your own voice. And
- 52:58then if you were some inclined, I said, look into or reach out
- 53:01to spirit, guides you do start to recognize when another voice comes in that's
- 53:07neither your intuition or your you know, passing parade of thoughts. Then he
- 53:12begins to recognize that the space for more to come in. Yeah. I've
- 53:16been blessed with that throughout my life and in particular, like I shared in
- 53:22my mid to late thirties, but one story stands out in particular for me
- 53:24personally. In nineteen seventy five, I was in the United States Air Force
- 53:29and I was stationed in Korea, and one morning I heard the voice say,
- 53:34your mother needs to hear from you. She needs to hear your voice.
- 53:37She's ill and you must call her. And I always listen to that
- 53:40voice. And so, six thousand miles away from Korea and New York,
- 53:45I called one morning and my mother, and in those days we had extension
- 53:49telephones. My sister answered the phone simultaneously and I said, Mom, is
- 53:53there anything wrong? And my sister says, oh my god, how did
- 53:57he find out? And it turned out she was scheduled for me your surgery
- 54:00the next day, and the voice told me to tell her the surgery would
- 54:02be a complete success. She'd have a complete and quick recovery, everything would
- 54:07be fine. She needed to hear those words from me, and obviously that's
- 54:10what transpired afterwards. So I've always learned to listen to that voice. Yeah,
- 54:15that's amazing. Yeah, you know this has been a that's a beautiful
- 54:19story. Absolutely. Yeah for me. You know this, I'm near in
- 54:22my fifties and this is the first time that I've that I've started to listen
- 54:27to it, you know, the last couple of years. Yeah, I
- 54:30wishould have I wishould have done it earlier. What would you like readers to
- 54:34take away from Glowing Deeper. Yeah, I mean I think that that's it
- 54:37really like, if you are interested in in I feel like Glowing Deeper is
- 54:42a bit more of an intermediate intermediate sort of journey that the meditations in their
- 54:46range, and I've actually marked them as you know, sort of beginner and
- 54:51intermediate meditations. But it's probably I would say, Letting Glow Like I say,
- 54:55it is more like a soft introduction to spirituality. Glowing Who is kind
- 55:00of a little bit more for the for the season practitioner. But yeah,
- 55:04there are lots of lots of meditations in there. Observations on grief. I
- 55:07was kind of you know, observing my own journey as I went along the
- 55:10way. And then yeah, a lot a lot about different esoteric traditions really,
- 55:15and I feel that there's a lot just again about what we've been talking
- 55:20about. And I feel that, you know, from revisiting these things,
- 55:23for example, tuning into your to your childhood self, there's a there's a
- 55:27great meditation to do that. And when you kind of can go back to
- 55:30tap into what you really wanted to do, you know before before everything else
- 55:35got in the way, I feel like it can be a very beneficial,
- 55:37beneficial journey. Yeah. My guest is Phil Webster. His brand new book,
- 55:42which actually comes out Dobruary first, is called Glowing Deeper. Phil,
- 55:45please share with our listeners again where they can get your books and find out
- 55:50more about you. Absolutely so. Yeah, the main stopping point, I
- 55:52guess is Amazon. We can all get our books from there. It's available
