- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Brought to you by you.
- 0:03SPEAKER_01: So thank you.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: And today for my opening segment, it's not going to be a thought or reaction per se.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: It's going to be a question.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: My question is, what does a big fight week look like anymore?
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: We somewhat saw it earlier this year with Nao in a way versus Junto Nakatani.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: We somewhat saw it with David Benavidez versus Gilberto Zordo Ramirez.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: But yet when Ryan Garcia versus Conor Bren occurred, which was a big,
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: let's watch what's going to happen.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Inevitably, there was a talent deficit.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Conor Benn is just simply not as good as Ryan Garcia.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: And there was going to be a subsection of fans like myself, some others,
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: who just simply were not that interested because they felt like the gap
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: in talent was too much.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: And then you notice there's not the hotel check-ins.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: We're getting less and less media workouts.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Starting pay-per-view fight weeks on a Thursday, but we're asking people to pay for the fights.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: It feels like as fans we're getting less and less, but being asked to pay more and more.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Feels like the sport is hidden behind paywalls to such an extent that That the fans
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: that will pay are taken for granted.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, they'll always be there.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: We'll just give them whatever it is and we'll run the show, etc.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: And with Canelo Alvarez fight week this week,
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: you know, the story will be Canelo looked good.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: He beats him, Billy.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: And Billy's the type of guy that if the questions people had,
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: like he has money and if he's tired and if he's exhausted,
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: this is the type of guy in theory that should beat him.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: This is the type of guy who might have enough youthful excitement
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: and energy to make
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: a demanding fight, a physically hard fight, a fight that Canelo goes, you know what,
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: I want to enjoy my riches.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Canelo showed he's still a really good fighter and Billy showed that he wasn't used
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: to dealing with an elite level counterpuncher.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: His punch output dropped not just because of power
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: but because he couldn't really tell where the punches were coming from.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: He couldn't guess the combinations.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: But the thing that sticks with me is what does a fight week look like now?
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: What does a frigging fight week look like now?
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: What's a big fight week?
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Because this Canelo and Billy fight was fine enough. It occurred.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: It got over in the middle of the day. That was nice.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: It went on a long time but it didn't really feel like it captured the boxing world
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: or the sporting world's imagination.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Typically when Canelo fights, the world stops and people watch.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Canelo has traditionally been a fighter
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Where people come in and out of boxing for.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: He's from a different era.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: Many different people have heard of him.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: He's been someone that's been a constant.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: And yet his fight with Mbelli, which was too...
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: Continue his career to a certain extent as a main event level boxer,
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: as a traditional boxer, as someone who can still beat the up and comers, right?
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: That he just had an embarrassing loss to Terrence Crawford
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: because Terrence Crawford is a Henry Armstrong-like fighter who is exceptional
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: in his abilities and can move up in weight and beat a naturally bigger man.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: He defied what I think critics of Canelo want him to be done or want him to be written off.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: He did what great fighters do.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: And he showed that if you're not really like an all-time great or a really,
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: really special fighter, you're simply not going to beat him.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: And then...
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: You know, typically that would be a big story.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: But whether it's the location not taking place in America or close enough to Mexico,
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: whether it's the opponents, whether it's just that streaming is here now and less
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: and less people watch terrestrial television, boxing isn't on TV.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: And the big thing is this was supposed to be one of the big fight weeks of the year
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: and it came and went and it didn't really make much of a ripple in the water.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: And we look at the schedule.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: There are good fights, but there aren't game-changing fights.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: We got Benavidez and more than likely Haney.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Those are the next two big fights.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: After that, who knows?
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: After that, we don't know.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: And it makes me wonder, what does a big fight week look like?
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: And what do we expect from the beats of a big fight week?
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: Do we expect the hotel check-in?
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Do we expect the atmosphere where everyone wants to be there?
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Where it's like boxing's meetup, so to speak.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Everyone that's an insider wants to be out there to network or to be around
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: or to meet a fighter or to be in the mix.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Doesn't seem like we've gotten one of those in a long time, right?
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Where there's a lot of buzz just to be out there.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Could it also be a sign of the times?
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: Las Vegas 15 to 20 years ago was a different Las Vegas.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: There used to be a little bit more reasonable rates.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: People could get free parking.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Now I hear in a very bad economy,
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: people are complaining about price gouging and the casinos are just trying
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: to take advantage of everything,
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: trying to charge you for every single thing possible.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Does that factor into big fight weeks where people feel
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: as though value is no longer existing in America?
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: People are just trying to give them the subscription model of fees on top of fees.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: And does that weigh into it?
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: But what I came away from other than realizing Canelo Alvarez
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: a good fighter is what is a big fight week as we head into 2027?
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: Because right now a big fight week seems to be to me Either a very popular fighter
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: who we're not sure how good they are and they're younger
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: or an older fighter who's closer to retirement coming back as we kind of reflect
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: on the sport that people in their mid 40s or late 30s or whatever reflect upon.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Man, I remember when this sport felt a little bit healthier and this was one
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: of my guys and I'm just happy to see him because it's part watching this right now
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: and it's part nostalgia.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: That's what I think a big fight week is.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: Let's go to your questions, okay?
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: It's going to be a good one.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: Someone asked me about aging legends.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: And is Canelo back or did he just have one more great fight?
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: And that's kind of the TBD because typically Hall of Famers in the twilight
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: of their career, they give us one more night of magic.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: That's kind of the rule with the all-time greats.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: You count them out and they give you a night of magic.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: I think a Nonito Donair...
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: He kind of had that performance with Inouye.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: People were like, okay, he's done it.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: He's probably done.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: And then he beats Nordin, the champion at the time.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: I believe it was 2021.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: And everyone's like, whoa.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: People had kind of written him off.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Then you also wonder, are we as writers,
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: are we as fans, hyperbole, the negative people, right?
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Not the people that believe in Canelo.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Is there a need to write Canelo off prematurely?
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Because he hasn't maybe traditionally given us the fights we've wanted
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: with Jaime Munguia, Edgar Berlanga, William Skull, I guess,
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: had to happen because of the belt left his possession.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: But these are not fights we were demanding.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: We wanted David Benavidez.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Me, personally, I want Osley's Iglesias in with Canelo Alvarez.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Is there a frustration with Canelo the businessman after the Bivol loss?
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: And are people just, okay, you lost? We lost to Crawford.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: We're frustrated that we didn't get to see those matchups.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: We really, really wanted to see.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: We're going to just put you on the back burner.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: Canelo is probably a pound for pound level fighter,
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: but he's not listed on the pound for pound list anymore.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: And I think that speaks to more of a dissatisfaction with some
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: of the matchups he's taken at times.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: I don't think that bothers him.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: But I think
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: That
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: will tell us
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: if this Canelo is steady at this level
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: or if this was just one magical night to defy people and say, no, I'm not done.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: And another question is, and Billy had never stepped to this level.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: The closest he came to this level was Lester Martinez.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: He started out really strong, kind of tired himself out, and then struggled in the second half.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: Did he take a lot out of himself in that Martinez fight?
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: Because in Billy's a high impact fighter and you have to question how much he might have.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Next question.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Why is Zufa not running more shows?
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: But the story of this year is just promoters in boxing are not running enough shows.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: And I think the story of this year is what's going to be Zufa Boxing?
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: What is Zufa Boxing?
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: How does Zufa Boxing make noise?
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: And I think As traditional promoters slowed down or kind of their budgets shrank
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: or whatever is happening, Zufa didn't kind of maximize their stuff.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: You have a fighter like Tony Hirsch Jr.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: who could be prospect of the year, but he's going to return in a week.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: On a club show by my house, I'll actually be there.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: He's going to come back in a stay busy fight off television.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: That might put him in position to not be prospect of the Europe fighter like Omari Jones might.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: And it just seems strange that...
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Really, during the football season, Zufa Boxing has moved over to the UK.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: The UK has probably been as strong a boxing hub right now as it's ever been.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: And it makes you wonder...
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: How many U.S. shows are going to happen next year?
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: I'd assume there's going to be probably, my guess would be something like 18 shows,
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: something in that number.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: But of those shows, is the focus more so to be in the U.K.?
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: British fighters.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: What do The Boatsy-Willie Hutchinson, I should say it,
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: the Joshua Boatsy versus Willie Hutchinson matchup has all the quirky, lukie traits.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: What will Boatsy's identity be?
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: I love it because I think that sometimes,
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: and I'm going to talk while I read the question, I think sometimes Boatsy,
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: Boatsy once told me his favorite boxer is Smokin' Joe Frazier.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: And Smokin' Joe Frazier is He stylistically to me does not fight like Joshua Bozzi,
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: but sometimes opposites attract.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: But when in his fight with Parker, Zach Parker,
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: it felt as though he was channeling his inner Joe Frazier in that fight.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: And then this comment said against Parker,
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: he was searching for the perfect punch and looked silly.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: I've been around guys sometimes where it's almost like an itch you can't scratch,
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: where they're obsessed with a punch,
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: and until they get a feeling or a sensation that it seems right,
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: they search that feeling more than think about winning and as someone
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: on the outside looking in in many varieties,
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: it is a frustrating thing to see because you're like, get back to trying to win.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Boatze fought the wrong fight against Callum Smith.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: Hutchinson has all the momentum and the emotions. I agree.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: Hutchinson's impressed me.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: He's one of the best Scottish amateur boxers ever.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: Really underrated.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: And his win over Ezra Taylor, I think, is a very good one.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: But do these things matter at a domestic level?
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: I'll even take it a step further.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Do they matter at all?
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: And Hutchinson got beat in the first fight.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: So they're basically asking me, I'm a momentum guy.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: I go with momentum.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: But that being said, all things being equal, do some guys just match up and beat some people?
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, Boatze seems like he's trending the wrong way.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: It also feels like his career has never fully gotten started.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: Hutchins has really kind of emerged as a guy
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: since that 5v5 Queensberry versus matchroom.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: He's kind of elevated his status over the last two, two and a half years.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: That being said, like my gut feeling is if you could pick one fighter,
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: you would always pick Watsi unless something's really wrong.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: I will say that Hutchinson's ability to improve in a short period of time
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: and not be defined by losses are impressive.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: But, you know, it's it's funny.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: You guys sometimes give me criticism about like being a momentum guy.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: And then I think about it and I'm like, OK,
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: I think on this one I'm going to break the Lukie momentum thing.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: And then they're kind of like, well, be a momentum guy and go with Hutch.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: And this is one where I'm going to have Tokers on tomorrow to do some British boxing breakdown.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: And I think he's big on Hutchinson in this.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: And we're going to go through the storyline.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: But my gut feeling is, and this is a bad way to do it, I know, 2016 Rio Olympics,
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: which is almost 11 years ago now, 10, 10 and a half years ago.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: I remember watching that and seeing the comment section light up with Boatze,
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: Boatze, Boatze, and people being so excited about Joshua Boatze.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: And I remember watching him and seeing moments of him being a really, really great fighter.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: And it's hard for me to shake that because I've never quite felt that way about Hutchinson.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: But Hutchinson's also a blue collar guy that wouldn't shock me if he wins.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: Criticism of Ramla Ali's career, basically saying people match make her career really well.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: Look, she's she's underachieved as a pro.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Right. There's no knock.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: There's no if ands or buts about it.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: I believe in her like.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: When she fought Lily Frutudo, she could have lost that fight.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: She lost to Mercado.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: But she has won when she fought Julissa Guzman
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: and got knocked out and then avenged that loss.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: To me, that was a pretty impressive performance.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: Now, by no means should you look at it and go, okay, she's a world-level fighter.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: She was an Olympian, but didn't really go very far in the Olympics, etc.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: I do give her credit that three years ago, she got knocked out.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: She came back and outboxed the person that beat her.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: I think that that is...
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: That's something.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: But I definitely feel like when she steps up in competition,
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: she more often than not looks lost if we're going to be real.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: So a question about,
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: do you think three-minute rounds would benefit Alicia Bumgarner
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: since she fought Choi at three-minute rounds and Turhan gasses out late even
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: with too many rounds?
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Two-minute rounds.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: This is what I'm sitting with my bald cranium contemplating.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Bumgarner should have an advantage being a disciplined boxer and being able to slow
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: the fight down and have time to work.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: And I think Derek James doesn't get enough credit.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: For his ability to make Bumgarner not have to work every single minute of every single round.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: He's really kind of helped her mature and become a more versatile fighter.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: That being said, Turhan now has one extra minute to land a big punch.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: And that could be something.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: You know, Turan has a bunch of upset wins where she stopped people that expected to beat her.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: This year she has not looked good,
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: but she's got her back against the wall and she's fighting a superstar
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: and she has more time than ever to try to look for a big shot.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: So I just want you to think about that.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: People really enjoying the boxing awards.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: First time I've seen my guy Benny Boy leave a comment.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: He said, a perfect format to round up the month.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: Short, concise, and spot on.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: I agreed with all the picks.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: I didn't see the Sam Marnell fight.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: I will try to hunt it down.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: I can't see it on YouTube.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: Beck Nirmigan name bet.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: KO was truly scary.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: He looks like a proper menace.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: Another contender for KO was Romero versus Fierro.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: Glad someone else saw Jamal Harvey and thought he looked very tidy.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Thank you for the kind words
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: and hopefully I can earn you over as someone
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: that continues to watch my content because that would be really awesome.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: I had one in the wrong spot, which was film study.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: My guy, Anthony Cox, who was on the Good Fight Post Fight show last week, he said,
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: this is awesome coverage, mate. Well done.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Anthony.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: Observations about Christian and Billy that from 2022 to 2025,
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: Lester Martinez match.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: He fought in a ring that they felt was smaller on Eye of the Tiger shows.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: This led to M. Billy likely gassing out in the larger ring.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure it was the ring that led to the gas out. Maybe it was that.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: I think that what led to him gassing out was he was excited as heck.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: To be on that type of stage as a guy.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: I remember the guy now.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: I am all over the place with this.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: So basically the ring size playing a factor into that.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: This is a great preview of the main card.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: I'll agree with Picasso for Martin being the best quality fight now
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: that Paro is unfortunately off of the Espinoza fight.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: I am struggling.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: There's a deep dive question about Jinjiro Shijiko.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: So maybe if you could rewrite that question,
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: I'm just struggling to be able to figure out how to go at that one.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: So, my guy Fan, if you can just redo that one or just maybe hit me up.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: You know, I appreciate you a ton.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Giovanni Cabrera fought Gabriel Flores Jr.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: I remember because I got picked up by Pro Box TV News like seven or eight days after that fight.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: He kind of quit after the split decision loss to Pitbull Cruz.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: I think...
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, I think that he kind of tried to be a stand-up comedian, if I remember.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: He weighed in at 137 pounds versus Quasar,
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: missed weight at 137 versus Zepeda.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: I remember Cabrera was huge.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Underdog versus Choi, a.k.a.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: Ciro Chebec Osman Lalaf. I remember this match.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: I remember thinking, why are the South Koreans such a heavy failure after a diminished weight?
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: Gio Cabrera, yes, Bibble is half Korean and Alicia Bumgarner is half Korean,
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: but we don't really see any high-level Korean boxers.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Siro Choi is actually an adopted name by a Uzbek named Izmalalov,
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: adopted out of respect for his Korean coach.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: Interesting facts.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: The name Choi comes from the surname of the Korean promoter and mentor Choi Wan-il.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: In an interview, Siri Choi explained that there is a proverb in Uzbekistan,
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: a teacher is like a father, and he regards...
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: Choy Won Il as a father figure.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: Therefore, he chose to adopt his mentor's surname,
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: combined it with his first two syllables from his real name
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: to form his current name, Siro Choy.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: He currently lives and competes in South Korea and is applying for naturalization
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: to And has expressed a desire for Korean citizenship and to serve
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: in the South Korean military in the future.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: Really, really interesting stuff right there.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Some feedback to my Christian and Billy story for the good fight. Great article.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Well done.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: Your point about how in Billy's rep and standing seemed to take a big hit.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: From the Martinez fight is spot on.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: Unfair in my opinion.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: What they're talking about and I brought up
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: in the article was how I think people kind of brushed off in Billy having success
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: in the fight and looked at him kind of brawling, plotting, and being aggressive.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: If Martinez was celebrated and acknowledged as a tier one operator after that fight,
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: which I agree with, and boy what a fight, then it did seem a bit unfair.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: The draw took some shine off of in Billy's rep.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: Both fighters reps should have been enhanced after that fight.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: They were both in with someone who is at the top of the weight class and both had
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: a great showing. 100% agree.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: And I do feel like for whatever reason,
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: and Billy kind of came away with the perception that he lost the fight.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: Are we, oh, and then the next one is more Foster.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: Are we really buying into claims that Foster is suddenly being recognized by the masses?
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: No, unless you were On Team Shock, like Lukie was for years, the answer should be no.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: Instead, what is happening is fans have ignored Foster for a decade.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: I think it goes on a little bit more.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: What I will say is Shock isn't like the traditional cool guy.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: He's not going to be the guy that I think all the other fighters are like, oh yeah,
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: I hang out with Shock.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: Maybe that'll change now, but I think...
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: He got underrated because he's a true fighter.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: He's a guy that doesn't always fit in.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: He's talented at the craft of boxing, but he's maybe not a social butterfly.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: He's just a good fighter and he had to earn it his own way.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: But regardless of whether he is now being recognized by the masses or whatever it is,
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: The fact is, after this year,
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: he's going to be viewed as one of the best fighters and he might just have a case
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: for the Hall of Fame by the time his career is over.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: And it shows you that no matter how a fighter is promoted, at the end of the day,
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: the fighters fight the fights.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: Can you break down an Adam Azeem Dalton Smith fight? I'd love to.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: So for me...
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: I'm going to be a contrarian on this.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: My gut feeling has always been when Adam Azeem is ready and keep in mind,
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: I have an article coming to the good fight,
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: the 25 best fighters under the age of 25.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: Azeem is one of them.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: When Azeem is ready to fight Dalton Smith, I think he's going to have his number.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: I think the perception about Azeem is he has some untraditional characteristics.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: He stands straight up and he pulls back.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: And when he was a younger fighter, he turned pro very young.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: He turned He had a lot of success,
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: but it's always been these are the two best guys at or around their weight.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: And I think the perception by a lot of insiders and fans is Dalton Smith hits really hard.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: And when he lands on Azeem, He's going to knock him out.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: And I don't think that's the way it's going to play out.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: It seems like to me, Azeem feels like a superstar boxer.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: He feels like someone that could be very, very special.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: He's got hand speed, coordinations, flash.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: He's very, very talented.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: Whereas Dalton Smith, it's not quite jumping off the page for me.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: So my guess is when the fight is made,
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: typically the more dynamic fighter wins it if all things are equal.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: And I think Azim, between his hand speed, his power,
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: and probably getting to fight on his terms when he wants to fight,
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: he would end up winning the fight.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: That's how I see it.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: Okay, do you know about this guy?
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: Make sure I have my audio muted.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: This is my guy, Yuta Sakai.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: I put him in the... Yeah, this is my dude.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: This is...
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: I took a lot of heat last year.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: I put Yuta Sakai probably saying it all wrong. He's...
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: I had him as my number one prospect last year when I wrote Boxing Scenes,
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: 26 prospects to watch in the year 2026.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: And he's as near perfect blue chip prospect in Japan as I've seen coming out.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: He's probably the best Japanese prospect.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: He's a southpaw at bantamweight.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's nearing title contention.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: The thing that's hurting him currently, in my opinion, he's got good distance, good.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: He's kind of an interesting fighter because the fluidity isn't something I see with him.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: It's more so he has straight punches and he looks for power, but he's being moved quick.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: And I think he's the best Japanese prospect out there currently.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: That's what I'd say.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: And what I also like about him is he throws these combination punches.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: Like he'll throw an overhand left, but he also punches to the body.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: But then he has a good straight jab.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: He's just really, for how young he is, for a 21-year-old fighter,
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: he's really far ahead in his development.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: So thank you for sending that to me because I am a huge fan.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: And I'm going to write a note for myself.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: Watch more.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: Watch more YouTube.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: The main event will be a slugfest.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: The co-main event will be a styles contrast.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: Too bad we can't see it.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Let me look at this.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: What are we talking about here?
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, no. It is an obscure Japanese fight that I do not know very well.
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: Can't comment. But I love it. I love it.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: You're keeping me on my game, guys.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: I'll have to use this guy.
- 27:31Thank you.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, I can't, I'm struggling on this one.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: So this film study one, we're going to just, we're going to have to look past it.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Can you preview Masatora Okada versus Aika Sakata?
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: Okay. So I am going to enter blindly,
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: as I always do, against Masatoru Okoda.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: He's in a fight with Katsuki Miura.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: He's got some cool hairdo. Let's look at his style.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: This is a minimum weight bout.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: So that means it's 105, I believe.
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: So what's my guy Okada doing?
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: Southpaw.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: So Mori is just a bouncer.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: He bounces a lot.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: He's loading up on a right hand.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: He's bouncing and bouncing.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: With Okada, this kind of sounds funny to say it, minimum weight, but he's a puncher.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: He's very sturdy.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: So you got Mora who's a bouncer and Okada takes the center, built like a tree,
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: plants his feet in the ground.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: Pretty wide stance though, that's the one thing I'll say.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: If guys turn him. He'll probably be.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: And he also the one thing I don't like about Okada
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: that I just saw right there is he's obviously a puncher.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: He obviously stands in his ground and he stands in front of his opponent,
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: but he has these habits of dropping his hands.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: He has these habits of pulling back.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: He just fights like a big, powerful guy. That's what he does.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: Let me look at this record.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Because some people have been like, dude, look at the records.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: Because sometimes your assessment just sounds so novice without looking at the record.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: So he is essentially like a journeyman in terms of records.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: But probably in this weight class.
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: So he fought to a draw in that fight.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: And now he's taking on a 5-1 guy.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: He's 10, 6, and 2.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: But once again, this is a real weight class where guys really fight.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: And then looking deeper to his record, draws, majority decisions, split decisions.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, this is a real guy.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: This is a tough guy.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: He looks like he's physical.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: It looks like he can punch.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: He's a real guy.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: So then let's look at Issa Satori.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: Said it perfectly.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: And...
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: This is...
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: So we're waiting for the video to load.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: Saktori is in the blue trunks.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: Thank you for giving me that.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: And then we're going to fighters.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: I actually know that fight that we're getting next.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: I'm excited because I actually have a ton of insight on.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: Sometimes when we go to these Japanese fights, it's like, do I even know boxing?
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: Because it's like, I don't necessarily know boxing.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: What I'm watching.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: But that's kind of good, right?
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: Because then if you're listening to this podcast and you enjoy
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: the film study segment of what I'm doing and I'm waiting on these ads,
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: which are very, very long.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: The fun thing I think about it is like you can assess if I know boxing, right?
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: Because there's a lot of guys that I think I wouldn't say it's cowardice,
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: but they'd be like, oh, I just don't know the fighters. So I don't want to comment.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: And a lot of that is I don't want to speak on a fighter if I don't know
- 30:48SPEAKER_01: the actual narratives around the fighter and I can't kind of lean on something
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: as a crutch. I'm going in cold turkey.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: I don't know what I'm watching sometimes and I'm just trying to make assessments
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: of fights and I think that's pretty cool.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: So this guy's fighting.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: Sakata is fighting in like a high school rec room.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: This looks like a high school thing.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: He's a pretty good fighter, bro.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: He goes up and down.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: Probing jab.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's a pretty good fighter.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is a great style matchup
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: because Akata is a sturdy dude who's willing to punch.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: Sakata is just a brawler.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: He's looking to exchange.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: His head doesn't leave the line.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: He smothers when he thinks he has you hurt.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: He's going to come forward.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: This is kind of a fight of the year type matchup.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: I'm curious because to me, my gut feeling on watching the tape is Sakata gets wild
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: and uncontrollable and makes for 50-50 exchanges.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying Okada would win,
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: but Okada's ability to sit there and play on his feet in his obvious heavy hands
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: for the division makes it a fascinating fight for me to wonder what
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: the results are going to be because he has a style matchup that could really,
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: really make it for a tough fight.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: Now here's a fight I'm really excited So Axel Melendez is a fighter I've watched
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: for a long, long time
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: And I was really impressed
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: when Emiliano Moreno won that fight.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: That fight was, I remember being on coverage for that fight.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: I believe that was right after ProBoxTV picked up boxing scene.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: I believe that was the same week.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: And I might have been, it was like Oshaki Foster fought Abraham Nova, ProBoxTV ran a fight.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: And there was like one other card.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: It was like bang, bang, bang.
- 32:47SPEAKER_01: That fight happened.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: And then there was also like all these fight cards that weekend.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: Melendez really impressed me by beating Demontez Juicy Duncan.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: Demontez Juicy Duncan, I still think, is one of the better prospects in boxing.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: He's building his record in Louisville, Kentucky.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: But I think that in terms of an amateur that I saw, he was a really, really talented fighter.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: And that was kind of almost like his audition to go to the next level.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: And I believe Melendez was working as a gas station attendant at that fight.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: And I just remember he was a very,
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: very good physical fighter who was tough and talented.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: And I even told Dakota at the time, you should interview this guy.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: And I think Dakota did for the Slip and Weave podcast, probably Axel Melendez's only interview.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: And it was a really, really good interview.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: And then Elijah Flores, he has that win over...
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: Omar Rosario and he kind of took the fight prematurely like he took
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: the fight too soon in his career
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: and then but he won it and it was like there was
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: a lot of hype I believe he had been sparring guys
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: and he had kind of word
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: of mouth gym guy this guy's really good he's a young hitter etc and And then he gets
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: in there with this guy from Philly, Tanaje Teasley,
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: and Teasley just outboxed him.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: He showed that there was a level that Flores needed to work on.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: Flores is a very good fighter if you're willing to stand in front of him.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: He's diverse with his punches
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: and what makes this fight interesting is Flores has proven he's a good slugger,
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: he's got to prove that he's going to be good when there's a methodical operator
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: in front for him. Axel Melendez is a physically tough,
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: high volume pressure fighter who is a high risk, low reward opponent.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: This is a put up or shut up fight.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: And I think it's closer to 50-50.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: I think Flores is moving very quickly.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: I think Axel Melendez.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: This is a real guy who just, you know, is having to take real fights on his own.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Next fight, can you preview Ruben Eduardo Aguilar versus Guido Scrum?
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: Well, Guido Scrum, I will always remember because one of the last showbox cards
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: that ever aired was in my area.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: It was almost, we're approaching four years ago now.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: Jeez Louise, that doesn't feel right, but it was right.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: It had to have been.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: Because I was at ProBox TV News at the time, so that would have been 2023.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: And it was the week of the Masters, which would have been April.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: So I know those two things to be true.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: And this April would mean that's four years ago, which is like, oh my God, that's crazy.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: So...
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: Guido Scrum was the co-feature for that fight.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: He fought Jai Hee Brown.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: And the thing about Scrum in that fight was he reminded me a bit of Marcos Maidana
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: as a pressure fighter, a come forward fighter.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: I believe he's also from Argentina.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: So it might have been just the lazy comparison to a certain degree.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: Let me look.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's also from Argentina.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: The issue he's run into is like when he fought Vladimir Hernandez and got knocked out.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: And when he's fought Jesus Ramos Jr. is he's built his way up.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: And he also fought a Xander sparring partner, Nikolai, the, the experiment.
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: And he beat him on a triller undercard.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: I want to say in 2021, which was kind of like a, what the hell?
- 36:39SPEAKER_01: Um, He got to a certain level by being physical and powerful.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: And then when he got to the next level, his power just wasn't quite good enough.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: And there were guys that were a little bit faster, a little bit trickier,
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: and he hasn't been able to evolve just quite yet.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: Now, Ruben Eduardo Aguilar, I think...
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty sure I remember him.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: I think he's a pretty tall fighter for the division who's a combination puncher.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: If I'm thinking of the right guy.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: Because I've seen pretty much every Pro Box TV fight.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: Like, I mean, I watched a lot of Pro Box TV fights.
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: Let's see what...
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know because he had the fight with Treshawn Wiggins.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: I know the guy we're talking about and I think this is a fight that I remember.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: I think this stuff, he fought Luis Lopez and let's see.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I remember.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: This is exactly what I was thinking of.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: He's a southpaw.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: He's there to be hit.
- 37:45SPEAKER_01: He's a big combination puncher.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: Kind of reminds me of like, no, he's not a southpaw.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: He's an orthodox fighter.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: But he reminds Reminds me of a less powerful, less physical Jaime Munguia.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: He's there to be hit. He's a combination.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: He punches hard, and he's just going to kind of impose his will.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: Luis Lopez, I believe, is the Thompson boxing fighter, if I'm not mistaken.
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: Let me see.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: Is this the same Luis Lopez?
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: Let me check that out because I remember.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: Facts Matter.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the Thompson Boxing guy.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: He was on the Thompson Boxing cards for years.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, once Thompson Boxing was over, he couldn't really find a direction,
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: has a couple of draws with Jesus Sirach, and then lost that.
- 38:48SPEAKER_01: And actually, respect to him,
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: he's coming back in a couple of weeks at the Pechanga Resort and Casino.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: I've been to that venue a few times.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: That's, you know...
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: So he'll be there.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I mean,
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: I think that this is the type of guy that typically,
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: and by guy I mean Aguilar, is typically the kind of guy that troubles Guido Scrum.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: But he's pretty vulnerable.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: So I think it matches up as a good TV fight.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: Can you preview to Sendabar Erdenbat versus Mohamed Yakubov?
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: Are we not high on the guys in the gym with Coach Wally or Goosen's gym,
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: the Ukrainian heavyweight, Zendi and Vlad Panin?
- 39:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't have a strong opinion on that gym.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: I've seen...
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: Dean Yakubov, I actually saw him in with Christian Cruz last year.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: He's a good boxer and he's got good pedigree.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: And when he fought, correct me if I'm not wrong,
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: I believe he fought Oshaki Foster about four or five years ago.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: And he put up a better fight than I expected.
- 40:08SPEAKER_01: You know, he was... He was a much better fighter.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: I expected it naively.
- 40:18SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh yeah, Shock will beat him in X amount of rounds or whatever,
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: and I believe it went to a unanimous decision,
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: and I believe it was streamed on a website, so...
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: I was like, wow, that's kind of something.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: But, you know, you look at his recent performances, Yakubov's kind of hitting a certain level.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: William Foster, majority decision, close fight.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: Christian Cruz, draw.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: Everyone in Fresno, albeit a pretty strong Mexican fan base,
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: thought that Cruz probably outworked him.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Thing with Erdenbad is tons of skill, tons of potential.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: Is he at the right weight class?
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: He kind of looks at 5'5", Southpaw.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: He doesn't really fully feel like 130 is his best division.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: I was there live last summer when he fought Humberto Galindo.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: You know, Galindo's a really, really good puncher.
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: I believe he dropped Raymond Muratala in the first round.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: He gives guys fits. He's a hard hitter.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: But I did kind of expect to see, because there is some hype around him,
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: I was expecting to see him go to the next level.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: Abraham Montoya, that was kind of a rugged fight.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: And then he really went to the next level in a fight in Maryland
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: against Cobia Breedy and won that one pretty thoroughly.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: So...
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: When you look at these type of fights, you typically would favor Erdenbat.
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: But I also am someone that looks, okay,
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: they're both 5'5", but Ukubov feels much bigger than
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: So if I were to look at it, I would say Yukabov, as weird as this sounds,
- 41:59SPEAKER_01: comes in probably with a bit more of a point to prove in his career on the line.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: Whereas Erdenbat, I don't get a sense of urgency in his fights.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: He has a lot of hype from the sparring and so forth and so on.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: But every year so far has been the same year after the same year.
- 42:15SPEAKER_01: So he needs to look really good in this fight.
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: So I think it's a fascinating fight.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: It's a pretty even fight.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: It's hard to call.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: The thing about Erdenbad is if he gets on the other thing stylistically
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: about this fight is if Erdenbad gets on the inside with you,
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: it's going to be a wrap.
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: If Yukabov can keep him on the outside, it's going to be tough for Erdenbad.
- 42:38SPEAKER_01: We'll say if Christian Cruz was willing to put on relentless pressure,
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: Erdenbat should be able to do that.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: But then the other question is,
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: will Erdenbat be willing to take the chances that Christian Cruz did?
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: What do you think of Kevin Bossier?
- 42:55SPEAKER_01: Bossier versus the older brother of Wilkins Matou, Lexon, in 2018.
- 43:01SPEAKER_00: Let's check him out.
- 43:07SPEAKER_00: Kivan.
- 43:10SPEAKER_00: Seems like an eye of the tiger.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: Dude.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm watching him.
- 43:17SPEAKER_00: I believe he's in red.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: Let me Google him
- 43:32SPEAKER_00: to make sure I'm looking at the right guy.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: Okay, he's in blue.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: Switches stances.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, what I'm first seeing with these two guys is they're both like.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: They're fighting, but they're trying to be as far away from each other as possible.
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: So like they're Lex on Matthew is like trying as hard as to switch stances.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: Probably a big Terrence Crawford fan.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: Kevin is really counterpunching.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: Neither is initiating.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: Basically, this fight is a battle of two counterpunchers.
- 44:09SPEAKER_01: We'll see if anything changes later in the fight, but this feels like a lot of waiting.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: That's my initial thing.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: It's just two guys who are extremely patient.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: It almost feels like a pro fight in the worst way where it's like they're waiting.
- 44:25SPEAKER_01: They're starting really slow, but this is a three-round amateur fight.
- 44:29SPEAKER_01: And there's just like, I can count it.
- 44:31SPEAKER_01: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: They just punched.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: That was 12 seconds where they're just waiting.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: So my first from that, I don't even think about the skill level.
- 44:45SPEAKER_01: It's just the patience, which is both good and bad.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: Okay, let's check this out.
- 44:52SPEAKER_02: Full fight.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: Here it is. Tail of the tape. Punching Grace.
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: We love a little Punching Grace.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: And he's in with someone that's just in this fight.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: It can't match him physically.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: So you're not going to necessarily see the same traits, but even still,
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: his temperament is going to He kind of leans in with his head.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: He's going to be a guy who gets head clashes because when he jabs,
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: he kind of throws that right hand tense and his head starts to go into his opponent.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: Also stands really tall, a little arrogant, which isn't bad for a fighter,
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: but a little arrogant walking forward wouldn't be shocked
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: if he had some adversities he had to battle back from at some point in his career
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: from You know, just I don't want to say lazy,
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: but there's like a lackluster enthusiasm as he stalks his opponent.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: I'd say that the thing with him is there's just a lot of patience and the pace is very slow.
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: It's for a young fighter.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: It's a little surprising how slow it is.
- 45:59SPEAKER_01: Nick Nickinson Dennis.
- 46:02SPEAKER_01: What do you think of him?
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: Twenty twenty five.
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: Amateur, okay, let's check out my guy, Nickinson, Dennis.
- 46:13SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 46:15SPEAKER_00: He's taking on Ben Is.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: He's got rocking the baldy, love the baldy.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: Okay, what do we got here?
- 46:24SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, the German fighter he's facing is doing the Christian and Billy Swarm,
- 46:29SPEAKER_01: kind of the Agat Cabell, Joe Frazier.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: He's just pushing, putting pressure on him.
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: A lot of, a lot of jab, stiff arm.
- 46:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's, I'm kind of seeing deja vu with Dennis.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: Am I just watching the same stuff?
- 46:47SPEAKER_01: But it's like, he's a good counter puncher.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: He's able to throw uppercuts.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: It catches his opponent coming in,
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: but the difference in this fight that I'm seeing so far is he throws one punch
- 46:58SPEAKER_01: at a time and he is flurrying, you know?
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: And maybe that's better in a pro style, but to me, Dennis is fighting like a...
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: A veteran almost sparring.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: And then he's willingly putting himself on the ropes, trying to catch shots,
- 47:16SPEAKER_01: sitting on the ropes.
- 47:17SPEAKER_01: I was always told sitting on the ropes and no, no,
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: that that's something counter punchers can tend to do as they put themselves
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: on the ropes.
- 47:24SPEAKER_01: I'm not loving what I'm seeing.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: Um,
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, it just, to me, he's,
- 47:31SPEAKER_01: I don't love the idea of just putting yourself on the ropes.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: So, not the strongest first impression.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: Let's check out what he does later in the fight.
- 47:46SPEAKER_01: He's got good combinations.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: He kind of slaps with his shots.
- 47:49SPEAKER_01: He has a good right hand.
- 47:53SPEAKER_01: Throw it maybe a little better, but there's something there, and I think he's a good puncher.
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: It's just he's fighting more like a professional than he is an amateur,
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: and that's a little frustrating.
- 48:06SPEAKER_01: Let's check out more of the tape.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: Check out his pro debut.
- 48:14SPEAKER_01: Okay, so he's in a pro debut and he's fighting just a guy.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: Once again, everyone's pro debut.
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: Just an undersized guy.
- 48:22SPEAKER_01: Throwing the same combinations.
- 48:23SPEAKER_01: Right hand, left hook.
- 48:25SPEAKER_01: Guy can't take the punch.
- 48:27SPEAKER_01: I mean...
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: There's something there, but he's not like a guy who's going to fight
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: for a world title in 12 fights.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: If he tries to fight for a world title in 12 fights, he's going to be in a lot of trouble.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: Can you preview Anthony Alagoska versus Yerbjin Martinez?
- 48:44SPEAKER_01: Love to.
- 48:45SPEAKER_01: Yerbjin Martinez, I believe, was a great amateur boxer.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: Let me look this up.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: I believe he might have won an Olympic gold medal or he was at least in the Olympics.
- 48:58SPEAKER_01: Won a silver medal in the 2016 Olympics.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: And I think he was like a multi-time Olympian.
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: I don't remember the name.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: So he's taking on Angel Bettencourt in this fight.
- 49:11SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 49:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, Martinez is a really good fighter.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: He's really, really good.
- 49:19SPEAKER_01: The big thing I'm seeing with him is counterpunching.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: He's going to counterpunch
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: He looks a little undersized.
- 49:28SPEAKER_01: He almost has like a rigging DL look to him, not in how he fights,
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: but it's like to me where he's dangerous, he likes to have you jab, have you miss,
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: get inside the And then he's trying to go three,
- 49:43SPEAKER_01: four punches and combination punch in the mid range.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: He'll throw lead left hooks.
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: He really thrives in chaos.
- 49:52SPEAKER_01: And then he's using his reflexes to cut the distance.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: And it's kind of a rinse and repeat.
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: So his defense, go forward, offense.
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: I could see him having a lot of problems with guys that match his athleticism.
- 50:04SPEAKER_01: Let's check out later in the fight what this looks like.
- 50:10SPEAKER_01: Round six, punches are starting to slow down.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: Technique's starting to get a little bit more sloppy.
- 50:15SPEAKER_01: So when you start to take him into deeper waters, yes,
- 50:18SPEAKER_01: he's going to be a pressure fighter, but the pace is going to slow.
- 50:21SPEAKER_01: He's not going to be as explosive.
- 50:23SPEAKER_01: The combination punching isn't going to be as fast.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: He'll still do what he does, but there's going to be a slower, slower pace.
- 50:30SPEAKER_01: So he's a first-half fighter.
- 50:31SPEAKER_01: He's got his combinations.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: He punches to the body well.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: He's got sneaky punches.
- 50:35SPEAKER_01: He's a really good fighter, but he is a little wild.
- 50:39SPEAKER_01: A little bit wild.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he sensed that he had him hurt.
- 50:43SPEAKER_01: He punches with him.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, he kind of feels like a guy that's going to get knocked out by Anthony Alaskaga.
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: Alaskaga is one of the most technically proficient, beautiful,
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: He's also inside punchers and power punchers at the lower weights.
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: He's a dynamic combination puncher.
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: And I just feel like being a reflex fighter against Alice Gaga is going to be very,
- 51:10SPEAKER_01: very hard because he's constantly working.
- 51:14SPEAKER_01: He throws a lot of punches.
- 51:15SPEAKER_01: He has a high IQ and he throws different types of punches.
- 51:21SPEAKER_01: And that different variety is going to be a lot like I'm watching him against Riku Kano.
- 51:28SPEAKER_01: And he's just absolutely just the diverse punches, uppercuts, hooks,
- 51:33SPEAKER_01: and he's staying to the inside.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: So I think that's going to be another thing, too,
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: is Martinez kind of likes guys that want to fight at distance.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: And then he slips and comes in.
- 51:42SPEAKER_01: Alice Gaga is going to meet him where he's at.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: And though that's going to be good for Martinez in theory.
- 51:48SPEAKER_01: He's got a fight going backwards at points in this fight.
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: And Alice Gaga can go backwards, forwards.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: I just think he's a more complete fighter.
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: It's also Alice Gaga's first fight with Matchroom.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: This is probably going to be a brutal knockout, if we're going to be honest.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: This is probably going to be a sensational performance for Alice Gaga,
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: who Alice Gaga might be entering into the pound-for-pound discussion.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: Is that a hot take?
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's a hot take.
- 52:13SPEAKER_01: Can we preview Paolo Acuso versus Mobin Kazarian?
- 52:20SPEAKER_01: Okay, let's check out Mobin.
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: Mobin.
- 52:24SPEAKER_01: Man, a lot of film study this week.
- 52:27SPEAKER_01: Gotta get our film study in.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: So Mobin's in the red.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: Watching 2021.
- 52:36SPEAKER_01: Looks like an amateur tournament.
- 52:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, okay, I've seen enough.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: He throws a straight jab, straight right hand, comes forward, his head doesn't move.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: And he'll punch on the inside and his head doesn't move.
- 52:48SPEAKER_01: He doesn't get off the line.
- 52:49SPEAKER_01: This is someone in Mobin that at the high level, this style just does not work.
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: He's there to be hit too cleanly.
- 53:01SPEAKER_01: It's just not going to work.
- 53:03SPEAKER_01: So there's no even need to go beyond it.
- 53:06SPEAKER_01: There's no need to say anything more than that.
- 53:08SPEAKER_01: It's just it doesn't work.
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: So Paolo Acuzo,
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: I remember from this Olympic Games, was compared to Roy Jones Jr.
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: That was a gimmick.
- 53:19SPEAKER_01: He's got flashy styles, a lot of reflexes.
- 53:23SPEAKER_01: Obviously, they gave me the one-punch knockout, which was sensational earlier this year.
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: He has a lot of flash.
- 53:28SPEAKER_01: To me, This is a knockout waiting to happen because Acuso is not just dynamic
- 53:35SPEAKER_01: and a counter puncher.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: He has a guy in there that can't move his head very well and that's going to be trouble.
- 53:40SPEAKER_01: Can you preview Callum Peters versus Juan Diego Ortiz?
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: Let's check out Juan Diego.
- 53:47SPEAKER_00: See if I've ever seen Juan Diego.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: Juan Diego Ortiz.
- 53:56SPEAKER_00: Juan's in blue.
- 54:02SPEAKER_01: Juan Diego Ortiz, to me, has some wiggle to him.
- 54:09SPEAKER_01: And what I mean by that is he has a style where it doesn't look like he's
- 54:13SPEAKER_01: the most quote-unquote fit, no knock on him, but it's like he can really box.
- 54:18SPEAKER_01: He reminds me of guys that fought for a long time, might be out of the gym,
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: but they come back and people are like, you didn't miss a step.
- 54:26SPEAKER_01: His fluidity, his movement, and his ability to turn punches are pretty good.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: He throws some get-off-of-me punches every now and then.
- 54:33SPEAKER_01: It looks like he throws them out of necessity.
- 54:36SPEAKER_01: But he's pretty darn fluid in his combination punching.
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: And, I mean, he's a pretty good fighter.
- 54:45SPEAKER_01: Looks like he's got power, too.
- 54:47SPEAKER_01: That's the impressive thing.
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: He's a good counterpuncher.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: He's able to punch with you.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm actually impressed.
- 54:57SPEAKER_01: I didn't think this would be as good of a matchup, to be honest with you.
- 55:02SPEAKER_01: So let's see.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: Callum Peters, on the other hand,
- 55:05SPEAKER_01: I think is a downhill runner where he I believe he was an Olympian.
- 55:12SPEAKER_01: And he's just, you know, he's, he is what he is, right?
- 55:16SPEAKER_01: He punches, he comes forward, he's not going to really jab with you.
- 55:20SPEAKER_01: He's just coming in high guard, going to step back, go to the body, and it's just an onslaught.
- 55:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think this is a really good test because I think that all of us, right,
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: with Peters, he has the pedigree, he has the talent,
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: he has the promotion behind him,
- 55:34SPEAKER_01: but you still are just a little uncertain because he has a raw
- 55:38SPEAKER_01: and reckless style that's a little arrogant.
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: And it's like, this might be the guy that answers some of those questions
- 55:45SPEAKER_01: because it looks like the guy he's fighting is going to have some movement
- 55:48SPEAKER_01: and be able to trouble him.
- 55:50SPEAKER_01: So I'm actually excited about that fight.
- 55:52SPEAKER_01: Can you preview Lucas Rorig versus Connell McDonald? McDonald.
- 55:59SPEAKER_01: I kind of like Connell McDonald better, but
- 56:03SPEAKER_00: not his name.
- 56:04SPEAKER_00: Okay, Connell McDonald.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: Amateur bout.
- 56:09SPEAKER_00: OK, let's see.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: This is a battle. This is an amateur fight between two kind of stiff, unfluid guys.
- 56:25SPEAKER_01: I'm not blown away by McDonald.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: McDonald is very, very slow.
- 56:33SPEAKER_02: Final round.
- 56:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is, he's just,
- 56:37SPEAKER_01: he's a straightforward fighter who just throws jabs and crosses.
- 56:42SPEAKER_01: He's looking tired in the third round.
- 56:44SPEAKER_01: Yes, it's an amateur fight, but I don't love it.
- 56:47SPEAKER_01: Let's look at, I've heard Lucas Rorig is really good.
- 56:53SPEAKER_01: He's also got the best first name in the game.
- 56:56SPEAKER_01: That's also pretty cool.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: Let's see what we got here.
- 57:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, this is just night and day.
- 57:06SPEAKER_01: These are just two different types of fighters.
- 57:09SPEAKER_01: Like the fluidity.
- 57:11SPEAKER_01: First off, just the size and the conditioning of Lucas Roe rig is different than McDonald.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: Second off, like you already see when he comes out, he's throwing feints.
- 57:22SPEAKER_01: He's establishing his distance.
- 57:24SPEAKER_01: He's looking, he's waiting, he's patient.
- 57:26SPEAKER_01: He's touching to the body.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is just two different levels of fighter.
- 57:31SPEAKER_01: This should be a showcase fight.
- 57:33SPEAKER_01: Rorick's just a much better fighter. He's got faster.
- 57:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's no advantages McDonald has, quite simply.
- 57:42SPEAKER_01: Can you preview Kenshi Agawa versus Jwo Lee?
- 57:50SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's do it.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: Here it is.
- 57:56SPEAKER_00: Love these ones.
- 58:00SPEAKER_00: So J. Wo Lee.
- 58:11SPEAKER_00: See if they gave me any tips on who is who.
- 58:24SPEAKER_00: So J. Wo Lee.
- 58:28SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's pretty raw.
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: He's just looking to land big punches and he's going to punch with you, but he's very slow.
- 58:35SPEAKER_01: And it's just come forward and fight.
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: That's what it is with him.
- 58:39SPEAKER_01: Come forward and fight.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 58:43SPEAKER_01: Keneshi Agawa.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: Let's check out what he's got.
- 58:49SPEAKER_01: The zone fight from five years ago.
- 58:52SPEAKER_01: Pretty sure I watched this one live.
- 58:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think I did.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: I think I did five years ago.
- 58:59SPEAKER_01: I think this was like a pretty big deal for me to watch this live.
- 59:02SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I'm watching all the fights now.
- 59:05SPEAKER_01: I'm Mr. Boxing Guy.
- 59:09SPEAKER_01: Agawa is loading the heck up on a right hand.
- 59:15SPEAKER_01: He is loading up so much.
- 59:17SPEAKER_01: He's just like coming forward.
- 59:21SPEAKER_01: See when he throws it.
- 59:22SPEAKER_01: He's just like, he just, he is the photo,
- 59:25SPEAKER_01: like I'm going to call Agawa in this film study the photographer
- 59:28SPEAKER_01: because he just waits. He's like sitting there.
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: And I get that in this fight against Zynga Fusilli,
- 59:35SPEAKER_01: the guy's got fast hands and he's a lot bigger than him,
- 59:38SPEAKER_01: but he doesn't trust punching with him because, you know,
- 59:42SPEAKER_01: he's got a speed advantage.
- 59:47SPEAKER_01: Okay, let's see the knockdown.
- 59:48SPEAKER_01: I guarantee it's with the right hand. That's what he throws.
- 59:51SPEAKER_01: Right hand, left hook. Right hand, left hook.
- 59:53SPEAKER_01: And when it lands, it's like, oh, buddy.
- 59:55SPEAKER_01: So I think if Agawa still has anything left, he'll probably win this fight.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: He probably will.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_01: Can you preview Yamata Hata versus Ryu Segaway?
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_01: Segaway with, and I love this.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_01: They gave me the thing.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_01: Segaway has black hair.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_00: Okay, we got that.
- 1:00:20Okay.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_01: Sent me one that has a lot of... You know what?
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_01: Love you guys, but we're getting towards the end.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_01: I'm getting tuckered out.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_01: We're going to go just Hada Film Study.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_01: And we'll just go there.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_01: Because if they're not YouTube links, it kind of gets tough.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_01: Because at least the YouTube links are pretty fast.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_01: When we start getting minute-long ads...
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_01: At the end on the super obscure film study, it gets rough for your boy.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_01: So Hara with the dyed hair and white shorts. Okay.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_01: So let's see what we got with Hara.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_01: And he's solid.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_01: He doesn't scream of being like a world-class fighter to me.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_01: He's got talent.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_01: It's obvious like he's what you'd call he has a look, you know?
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_01: Glaringly obvious that he's trying to load up on a straight left hand.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_01: It's like that's kind of been the theme of today's film study has been guys
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_01: that just sit and wait.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_01: They're waiting to land the perfect punch.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_01: They want you to come to them.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_01: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, and more waiting. Let's see.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm just skipping through this and I'm just watching him wait.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_01: Okay, he finally lets it go.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_01: In round two, he throws.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's just waiting for the perfect punch.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_01: He's in coordination. I mean, what I like about, let me get his name right,
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_01: is Hata is he steps over to the side and angles,
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_01: and that's probably how he can catch you.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_01: He pivots pretty well.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_01: He's got some clunky footwork, but he pivots pretty well.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_01: My issue with him is he just doesn't initiate.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_01: It's like we're in round two and it's like you're just waiting.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: That's a great style just to get beat.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_01: You know, he's just sitting and waiting and waiting and waiting.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_01: Does this change?
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's just too much.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_02: Got a little showmanship to him, but yeah.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_02: See what they got of Ryu Segway.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_00: Night of Champions seven years ago on ESPN.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's see.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_01: So Segway, I just, I mean, at least he's popping the jab in this fight.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_01: I'm watching him.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_01: Segawa, he's popping the jab.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_01: He's taking on Al Tagoyan.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's just, it's tough.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_02: I mean, this is going to be a good fight.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_01: The thing I like about Segawa is he's willing to punch.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_01: The downside is that could lead to him possibly getting knocked out
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_01: because he's willing to punch.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_01: But at least I like that, you know, tough.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_01: Do you think Musad Abdullah can take the power of Aiden Palma?
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_01: I actually do.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_01: I actually do because I think Aiden Palma was a promising fringe club level guy
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_01: that could go to the next level board.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_01: But without the help of kind of a developmental system for a year or two
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_01: at the club level, I just think he's kind of gone to a level in Zufa Boxing
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_01: where he's just not fully ready.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_01: And I think Musad Abdullah, let me just double check this
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_02: from my limited film study.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_01: Let's see, 13-1, one loss, majority decision to Zach Miller.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_01: And then you look at Aiden Palma.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_01: Palma's loss comes to Pablo Rubio, the shark.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_01: Rubio did get dropped, so it's a reasonable thing.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_01: Palma is a good power puncher.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just, my feeling is if you're going overseas with Zufa Boxing to fight
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_01: a British fighter, you've got to be really good.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_01: And I just think it's a tall task for Aiden Palma.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's your once a week podcast this week.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_01: Let me know in the comments if you enjoyed it.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_01: And be sure to send me some questions.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_01: I do tons of film study, but ask me a couple of questions next week.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_01: Give me some questions and I will answer them.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
