Mark: So you're you're you're in your tour bus and you have an interesting thing going on outside right now, don't you? LOCASH: Yeah, they they just walked away because we heard that they were paid for an hour and the hours up, so they're done. But there were protesting chickens outside 'cause we're doing a show for Kroger tonight. And I guess Kroger they said they keep the chickens in a cage to have eggs and they don't like that, so they wanna free the chickens. And they were outside and we pull up in our bus which is which is wrapped by a meat product. So that didn't They were they were going, boo, boo, every time we went by. Mark: Ha ha. LOCASH: So it was it was really, really classic. It was fantastic. They had people on drums and like sirens and free the chickens, free them. But now, now you guys tell me that, you know, I mean, I Geno: Yeah, farmer Frank. LOCASH: Farmer Frank has said, what did he say? Go ahead and just tell him the the chicken story. This is incredible. Geno: He told me in a locker room in Ohio, I was in Ohio actually, I was at Miami of Ohio, we were working a game, and he told me that the cage chickens, they prefer to be in a cage environment, because they like to be all together, and if there are free reigns, their hot rates get a little jumping, and it's not good for them. So, you know, they prefer to be enclosed. Yeah. LOCASH: Well So you're actually saving the chickens. You're saving the chick. These those people have no clue what's going on. Those people need to be Geno: I mean, they're no chicken. They don't know what the hell, you know. LOCASH: in a locker room with farmer Frank. You know what? They're just a Geno: Yes, they do. LOCASH: bunch of cocks. They're just a bunch of cocks out there not here. Geno: Hahaha! Mark: But if if the kid from South Boston is telling people about chickens, they should be listening. Geno: Yeah, I grew up in a cement backyard, so don't LOCASH: Right? Geno: take my word for it, but hey, you know, this was a, I heard this probably. LOCASH: In a locked room, in his underwear right out of the shower. They're talking about chickens. Geno: We were stretching. Mark: Well, it's better than LOCASH: Yeah. Mark: better than choking better ch better than choking your chicken in the locker room. LOCASH: I was gonna say and somebody choking a chicken if they're talking about chickens in a locker room. I don't know. Mark: Yeah, go outside the bus and choke your chicken. See if they like that. You know? See if they'll protest that. Geno: Always something on the road too, right? I mean, always LOCASH: Hey, let's switch Geno: something on the road. LOCASH: it today. Welcome to the Chirpin Chickens Podcast. For one day and one day only, it's the Chirpin' Chickens. Geno: I it. Mark: Yeah. Than the choking chickens. Geno: Yeah. Mark: now we we first of all we met at T Off of Heroes when we were there chirping, and you guys performed, which was insane. and I just want to give a little background as to how we connected. your one of your managers, John Lasard. I coached ha I coached him in hockey back in Sandwich, you know, 40 years ago or whatever. I don't know, it was a long time ago. So it's just kind of funny. How hockey brings people together. LOCASH: Yeah, man. That's crazy. Geno: Small world. LOCASH: Johnny always talks about his hockey days, man. He's always good always re going back and looking. He's always over here on the side looking at him. He's like, What am I gonna say? This morning we were on the bus and he was talking about how he used to get concussions and you know, and he would and he would still hit the winning goal with a concussion. He was living his moment on the bus today. Geno: Yeah. LOCASH: Is that true? Since since you were coached him? Geno: I believe it. LOCASH: Tell us. You believe it? Okay. Mark: I'll tell you what, Johnny Lasard was a good hockey player. he was one of our top players. So, yeah, his brother Garrett was pretty good. LOCASH: yeah, all right. That's awesome. That's right. He said he had a concussion, he'd see two goals, he'd hit it in the middle, it'd be the game winner. Boom. Right, right, right. Mark: That's not unusual for a hockey player though. You know, he's not special in that regard. We've all done that. but one of one of the things we talk a lot about on here, because no matter what you do, whether you're a musician, you're a referee, you go through the journey, the grind to get to where wherever you are now or wherever you are trying to get. And I'm sure as as performers, as musicians, that's Something that you guys have been through for sure. LOCASH: Yeah, I think Yeah, we're still trying to get where we're trying to go, which we don't even know where that is, but we're trying to get there for sure. It's it's it's always a grind, man. You know, we we we started this thing and we were living out of our cars and wherever we could stay, and you know, two tuna fish cans with mustard in it, and whatever we could get to eat, wherever, you know, someone would let us shower or go to the bathroom, we did that for two or three years on the road and never left the road. So we still have that that kind of like of a poor mo poor man mentality. So we're always scrapping. We're always fighting no matter what. but you know we are blessed that we've gotten to where we are now. We do have roof o roof over our heads for our families and, you know, it it's people see that and you know, I got a lot of people that think, man, you guys are in the money. Like we are not in the money. Not what's none whatsoever. We're just happy. Yeah, we're content, but they don't see what it took to get there. Geno: And what it still takes to do what you guys are doing, like you don't, you guys gotta work your ass off. I mean, look at you're, you're in a tour bus right now, drive across the country, right? Like you gotta continue to keep working. Like Jerry Rice always, like he was the best practice player and people going, why you're the best in the game? He goes, gotta, gotta keep stay up cause someone's gonna come take you out. LOCASH: Yeah, you know, early on, we couldn't afford rehearsals, you know. I mean, because you would have to pay the band just to have rehearsal or pay the the spot where you were gonna rehearse in. We still don't rehearse. Yeah. And so, you know, early on, I always said, man, if if we're good enough, we don't we don't have to rehearse and and we use our sound checks as rehearsal. And so we would take moments like that to just work up new material. We we still do that to this day, you know. meet up early for a sound check, run through some songs and avoid all the extra costs and all the extra hoopla, but just because, you know, like you said, if you if you're working every day and you're doing what you do, then you you know, you'll find ways to to get better along the way without, you know, going crazy and all the crazy expenditures and I don't know, you know, just living out of our cars. I mean, I I remember being on the Mumbrian Street, living out of my car. Those are big high rises now and I try to think back to those days of what what you know the struggle and but the journey's beautiful man. I mean if if you don't enjoy the journey of what you love to do, then just stop doing it. Get out. You know and and do something else. Good life is way too short for you to be having a struggle that you don't love and then just being miserable every day. So just get out, you know? And I I think that's what's kept us going is just the love of what we do. Geno: That's awesome. And we preach that to our officials all the time. Yeah. Go ahead, Mark. Yeah. Mark: No, I was gonna say that comes through with your performances too, I think. One of the one of the things that's so great, not only are your songs like my personal favorite song is I Love This Life. Like, I mean, and I'm not saying LOCASH: Let's go. Mark: that because you're on the podcast. Seriously, that's my Geno: you Mark: favorite song. LOCASH: Thank you. Mark: And anytime I feel anything, I put that song on and I feel good. Watching you guys perform, you guys bring an energy and a positivity to your performance. Like you I know you guys never just go through the motions. Like you you can just tell that love, that passion just comes through in that performance. It's just so cool to watch. LOCASH: Thanks, man. that we rely on each other for that too, with the energy, but we also go with the crowd. I mean, we're out there reading the crowd. That's what we do. You know, we we have a set list and outline of what we want to do, but we we'll change it every time when we see if we got the crowd in the palm of our hands, man. We look at it for that way, like, hey, they're here for us, man. They paid a lot of money. You know, whatever it is, they're here in the time time is money too and today, you know. So if they're there Geno: Hmm? LOCASH: to watch us, we want to make them feel good. We want them to forget about whatever it is and Go home, laugh and just say, Man, that was a great concert. Man, I'll never forget that. So that's our job and and that that job doesn't suck. And there are days, you know, man, where it's we're having bad days just like everybody else and and it's showtime. You know, you might have got Geno: Mm-hmm. LOCASH: a got a call from home or something's going on with a friend or Or a chicken protester yelling at you. You know Yeah, I mean no matter what it is, but Geno: Yeah, there you go, right? LOCASH: yeah you gotta You don't know what you're gonna get on the road. You gotta suck it up and go on stage and do what you came to do and I I don't know if those audience know how many times those crowds have helped pick us up, you know, and Geno: Mmm. LOCASH: and helped us get through our day as well. Because, you know, you you get on that stage and and you're doing what you do best and what and what you feel like you were born to do, but then that audience starts giving you something, giving you that love and giving you that energy. And you're like, man, shit, I really needed this today. And and you work together and it's reciprocal. It just goes back and forth until, you know, like you said. Here's this moment, the end of the show. I love this life and we all did it together, you know, so Geno: It's opposite for a hockey referee, right? That energy you get is from usually someone telling you how much you suck and booing and throwing something at you, whatever, right? So like LOCASH: Yeah. The boo. Yeah. Geno: honestly, I'm like, I'm doing a good job. I just pissed somebody off. LOCASH: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's awesome. Mark: It's it's really no different in comedy when I'm up there, you know, I've had I've had to go on, Geno: Yeah, right. same thing. Mark: you know, when r you know, I'm not in a great mood, but that energy you get from the crowd, you know, and that laughter and that exchange. Geno: Definitely. Mark: I always call it an energy exchange is just so powerful LOCASH: Yeah. That's it. Mark: that, you know, you leave the stage, you just feel good, you know? It it's it's a it's a really cool thing to experience, no matter what form of entertainment you're in. LOCASH: Yeah. Mark: Now, y you guys are songwriters too, and you've written some pretty amazing songs. what is that process like? Because, you know, I I try to I I that's a concept that's just foreign to me. You know what I mean? Like and people go, you you write jokes. Well, I just pay attention and make stories funny. You gotta take something from nothing and create this thing and then put music to it. That Give us some insight into that because that's something that not everyone obviously can do. LOCASH: I would think there's similarity there though. I mean it's a lot of it does come from stories. I don't think there's one necessarily secret secret recipe that does it that how everybody does it. I think everybody's different. Preston and I work very well songwriting and we'll have our guys that we know. We'll try out some younger writers too and see how they go if we click and when you click, you guys just we just know. We'll come up with titles, we'll come up with ideas, and then we'll just start spitting out shit and just like word after word or idea after this and then somebody'll pick up a guitar and play, okay, this little riff. And we're like, all right, that fits. And sometimes you'll it'll take hours. Sometimes it'll take thirty minutes, forty-five Geno: Trial and error, LOCASH: minutes. I mean, you just never know what you're gonna get. But r recently what I've what I figure with with us, I feel like there's been titles. We start with an idea. You know, somebody has a story or an idea that happened to them or an one, you know, I got one last night, but we'll we'll probably write it in a week or two, maybe a month from now. Who knows? But you write it down, you're like, okay, we're going to bring this back to whoever we write with next week and see if anybody picks it up. I find a lot in in conversation with people, just because we're talking to different people around the country and around the world all the time. I mean, even even just talking to you guys, you guys have a unique way of saying certain things and phrases. It's Geno: Mm. LOCASH: it we're not reinventing the wheel. You know what I mean? Like you are just saying something we've heard a few times in our life, but you're saying it different. And you're saying it with a different you know, edge to it, maybe or something. And you're yeah, different swagger, different emphasis on certain words. And then you're like, I've never heard it that way, quite that way. And so then you kind of jot the idea down in the phone. That's what I do anyways, you know, because people, man, that's everyday life. That's what they're that's what's gonna pull on their heartstrings, is just listening to them and then writing those feelings down and trying to come up with the melodies will all come. you know, the melodies and the riffs and all those things. But if we can find that subject matter, that title, like Chris said, and then dive into the heartstrings of it, then I think, you know, you might you might stumble. And and listen, we'll we'll write five hundred songs to get five good ones. I mean, it's not like every song that comes out, you just gotta keep wood shedding, keep wood shedding. But once we make that big pile of songs, there's gonna be a couple that, you know, find their way to the top. Mark: What's your what's your Geno: Nah, it's a lot of truth in that. Mark: Yeah, go ahead, Gino. Geno: No, I was gonna say there's a lot of truth in that. mean, you look at, you know, the greatest, the writers and the Spielbergs of the world, how many great movies do they write? And they probably got four or five really good hits, but they wrote hundreds and thousands of great movies. And, you know, and I'm LOCASH: I'm sure. Yeah. Geno: sure how many songs you guys write. Like, there's a lot of truth to what you said, yeah. LOCASH: Yeah, you know, I was going through my phone the other day and I mean just hundreds of songs that I feel like are good songs that I wish people could hear. And I narrowed it down to like a hundred and twenty of them and just the titles and who we wrote with and when we wrote them and some of them and then I started breaking them into sections like blue collar songs and heartbreak songs and newfound love songs and ex-girlfriend songs and just all Geno: Hmph. LOCASH: these things, right? And Man, it's crazy to look back on all the phases we've gone through as as men and as dads and as single dudes back in the day. And these songs just kind of sit there. but it but it is, it's it's fun to look back and see all these songs that we could put out, you know. Maybe we'll find a way to do it. Geno: Awesome. Mark: D do you find I mean I think the answer might be obvious 'cause it's happened to me in comedy. Y as your life evolves, you know, you go from single to married to ch dad, your music obviously th not the music itself, but the the topics, the stories you tell with those songs, you know, evolves as well. LOCASH: Yeah, for sure. It depends, you know, what what song we have a song called Love Always Wins, you know, and we have kids. So them that's that's what we're trying to tell our children. Like when crazy shit outside's happening or they're watching the news Geno: Mm-hmm. LOCASH: and they don't understand, you know what, hey, what can we tell our kids? You know what, forget about all of it because love always wins. So there's a there's something there, you know, where we definitely look at the children a little bit more. And obviously we've always been very positive, very, you know, goal good goal. you know, role models for the children and our kids and, you know, a positive songs. But yeah, we it depends what it is. I mean, me and him like to have a lot of fun. So we like to write a lot, you know, of fun stuff where you're gonna roll the window down and you're gonna like, okay, like I love this life. It's gonna take that person to that level. Like, you know what? This is awesome. Not such a bad day today. You know, people have written to us and and talked to us at shows and said, Hey, we've come to your show, but I was going through some mess. I mean, some really, really high profile people have come to us and said, Geno: Hmm. LOCASH: I wouldn't be here without I love this life. Never once on the day that we wrote that song did we talk about how it was going to help someone get through their day and a tough time either. We were just writing Geno: Bye. LOCASH: a song that day that felt good. It felt right to us. And we were like, you know, yeah, the real story is, you know, Garth Brooks is getting ready to cut and we're trying to write a song for Garth. And what would he say? I remember us sitting there saying He's got his headset mic on and he's looking at a sold-out arena. What does Garth Brooks say to that crowd? And we were like, man, I Geno: Hmm LOCASH: love this life. That's it. Because it's passionate and it look and it feels real and it is genuine within. And then we went all around that room, just what are Geno: So genuine. LOCASH: little things, little things that we all love. Little things that we all love. Just little things. And then we just wrote it. Yeah. You know, and there was no, Geno: That's so cool. LOCASH: there was no like, someday somebody's gonna be, you know. going through the hardest day of their life and they're gonna come to us and say this c this song helped them get through it. I was actually thinking that. He was not thinking that, but I was actually thinking Mark: Yeah. LOCASH: that. I was thinking out this song is gonna change the world. Every time I write a song and when I'm done in my mind, this song is gonna change the fucking world. Wow. That is the truth. That Geno: Now you got one of all cage chickens. LOCASH: Okay, that's coming. Don't worry. Mark: So did were you originally W it's LOCASH: We're gonna change the chicken world. Mark: a check in world. We do were you so you were originally writing that song for Goth Brooks? LOCASH: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I I knew a guy that played in his band, played the guitar, and he was gonna be with the Garth had a residency out in Las Vegas. And so he was gonna go out there and they were gonna have a big dinner together and Garth was gonna hang out with the band and everything. So he says, Man, if you get this song to me, I'll get Garth to listen to it. And so we were like, All right, let's write one. So we tried to write one. We we wrote I Love This Life and so I give it to Change the my guy. And I sent it out to Las Vegas and I'm waiting on pins and needles, you know. And it's like 2013, 14, back then, you know. And so I finally get a text from, I just knew Garth was gonna cut this song. And got a text back. He says, hey man, Garth passed on the song. And I was like, dang it, I can't believe it. So that song kind of floated around a minute, right? And a couple of other artists started sniffing like they were gonna record it. nobody as big as Garth though. And and then the song landed in our own hands. And we're like, you know what? Let's, Geno: So awesome. LOCASH: you know, let's put this song out ourselves. Fast forward a little bit. I love this life goes on to be a big hit, right? So we're doing changing people's lives. We're doing a big we're doing a big interview with a radio station, and there was a bunch of booths, different radio stations, and all these artists were there. And Garth Brooks steps into the room. And we're like, I think we're on North Carolina radio or something and we're doing this interview a lot like this. And Garth motions for us when the interview's over, he wants to talk to us. And we're like, I mean, this is this is big. We don't know what's going on, right? And so we go over there after the interview and Garth says, Man, I just gotta tell you, I'm a I'm a big fan of I Love This Life. You you finish it 'cause it's a good ending. I had a chubby. I was so excited, I didn't know. I was Geno: Ha ha! LOCASH: like, I mean, Garth was like my idol, dude. Listen. Chris has a restraining Geno: Right? LOCASH: order against him. He can't he can't come within five hundred feet of Garth or something like that. It's six hundred. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no. I mean, I love Garth. Like, I know all like all the B tracks, C tracks, D tracks, and I'm I mean, even Chris Keynes. I was a Chris Keynes fan. When Chris met Garth for the first time, he shook his hand and wouldn't stop. I had to pull their hands apart. It was it was Garth. It was embarrassing. I told him though, I did I did say that I I remember you were my first country concert and you pointed at me. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And I asked him if he remembered it. I didn't remember it, but but back Mark: You didn't remember? Geno: It's so good. LOCASH: to the story. He did say, he goes, Man, I heard you you guys sent me I Love This Life, and I remember and I I didn't accept it. I didn't turn it down. He goes, Well, you know, good for you. I was Thanks. I mean, cause it changed our life too. And he goes, I'll tell you a story. He goes I had a song called Much Too Young to Feel This Damn Old. And it was his first number one. And he sent it to George Strait. And George Strait said no. He just knew. He said, Man, I just knew George is gonna cut this song. Yeah, so it's Geno: Hmm. LOCASH: very similar. And then he said, the last I did when he got into the inducted to the Hall of Fame, George Strait came out and sang that song for him. Yeah. And he made a promise to Geno: that's so cool. LOCASH: us when we get into the Hall of Fame, which I don't Country music call of fame or not, but I hope we do. Maybe for the longest duo of all time. Geno: Keep grinding. LOCASH: Yeah. Keep grinding. It'll be the oldest and longest duo of all time. He said when we get inducted. When we get inducted, Garth Brooks is gonna come out and sing I love his life. Geno: It's so cool. Mark: Sick. LOCASH: I I had a tear. I had a tear. I had the chubby that time. Yep. His chubby came out, my tear came down. Mark: That's so friggin' cool. LOCASH: Yeah, it was a good it was a kind of a full circle moment with that song, you know. Geno: That's awesome. Mark: Who who were your like, the people your that you really not only looked up to, but what was your music when you were growing up? Like LOCASH: Uh-huh. Mark: what who who did you like? Who did you kinda, you know, gravitate towards? Were you always country? LOCASH: Man, dude, no, no. I I both of us listen to all kinds of music. I grew up in very my family did a lot of karaoke. So as a kid, I would go to all these karaoke shows and just be forced to hear these people try to sing. And they'll be singing all kinds of just music. And I learned so many songs. Like I know a song could come on the radio and I'll be singing it and then Preston will be like, How in the hell do you know the song? And I'm like, because somebody sang karaoke. Geno: Karaoke Jam. LOCASH: Yeah, so but it and I also love music. So I studied a little bit of music and I would say I mean there's a there's a couple of things that I listen to. growing up, very eighties rock. I mean eighties rock was a lot, you know, there was Whitesnake and Motley Crue. And then you got to the nineties and nineties R and B is some of my favorite stuff, which we bonded on when we were talking about, okay, what did you listen to? What you just so what do we making low cash, there's a lot of that nineties R and B in there. Because that's something that we loved. The harmony. The harmonies. Voice to men harmonies and things like that. A lot of babyface stuff. I grew up in church, so I had a a big church background. You know, my daddy's a preacher at Church of Christ. And so it was a cappella. There was no instruments, no piano, no organ, no nothing. You had to break off into sections. So you had your sopranos sitting together and learning church songs and your altos and and then you had to, you know, your butt your basses and And the tenors. And so that's kinda how you learned how to sing in church. And so, and you would follow the older guy I followed the older guys who had bigger, deeper voices 'cause my voice was changing pretty quick and I had this deep voice. And so I was like, okay, I'll go sit by those guys and learn those parts. And so, you know, just learning church songs. I'm kind of the other side of the spectrum, you know. And then we meet in the middle with a a a lot of that gospel and secular and it comes together and there's there's always a feel good message and You know. And when we got country nineties car no nineties country came out, Garth. Gar Garth changed everything. And that really did because he was a rock star and got me into country music. Then I fell in love with the, you know, the George Straits, the George Jones, went back to George Jones and listened to him over and over again. And, you know, the Brooks and Dunns, Joe Diffies, so many great nineties country artists that, you know, we can name and we're actually pals with some of them now, which is which is pretty cool. Geno: so cool. Mark: Awesome. I I got into country music when I lived out in Iowa, Des Moines, Iowa, referee in the USHL. And it was just, you know, all over the radio. And my actually my roommate, Chris Rooney, who's still in the NHL as a referee, number five, he was into it. And he said, You should listen to this. It was Brooks and Dunn. that's the first LOCASH: Yeah. Mark: first one he turned me on to. And I was like, This is awesome. And right then I fell in love with it. And You know, and and it's it's LOCASH: That's cool. Mark: it's unusual 'cause you know, being up here from the northeast, that was back when country now country's kind of accepted everywhere, right? But back LOCASH: Yeah. Geno: yeah. Mark: then it was kinda like it wasn't a city thing, you know? but now it is. Geno: That's a good way to put it. Mark: Well, yeah, I mean, you know what I mean. And Geno: Yeah. Mark: it's definitely more mainstream now. LOCASH: It is. Geno: Wow, it's awesome. Country's awesome. I saw Kenny Chesney LOCASH: Yeah. Geno: this summer at the sphere. My daughter was out there playing in a hockey tournament. Yeah, we LOCASH: Yeah. Nice. Geno: took advantage of that. It was awesome. LOCASH: Yeah, Kenny puts on a great show. Mark: Who i now what's LOCASH: Yeah. Mark: your f well, it's funny, you just mentioned George Strait and all those artists. Let the Country Music Play is such a friggin' good song. 'Cause it just it LOCASH: Thank you. Mark: mentions all those people you love listening to. It's just a really, really cool LOCASH: Yeah. Mark: song. LOCASH: Yeah, it's like a tip your hat to all the nineties country artists out there, but yet at the same time using that Pina Colada song from the seventies. You know, our our buddies Parma Lee, they're a real successful band in country music and good buddies of ours for like fifteen, twenty years. They call it you know, every time we see each other, we're like, Man, we should do a tour together, man, we should do a song together, we should hang out more, you know, and then your buses go down different highways until you see each other again. And Yeah, kudos to them, man, because they had this idea of putting us on this song with them. They already had the song written and put together and everything and it was so cleverly written. And so they played it for us and first listen, we were like, Yep, we're doing it. It was a no-brainer. Yeah. I mean, we went straight back to Nashville that night. I mean immediately starts you just start laughing and you're like, my God, this is this is just insane. It's great. Yeah, it's so much fun. We went in the studio, cut it. A a week later we were done. And a couple weeks after that, Chris he started a group text. He we were going down to Key West to do the BMI Songwriters Festival. We were gonna be down there doing a couple of shows. So Chris says, Hey, you know, you guys should jump on a plane, come down here and meet us. We're gonna be down here for two days and we should shoot the video to our song. Geno: Hmm LOCASH: And so those guys I I did not think for a minute, because we're all so busy going different directions. I did not think they were going to show up. I mean, it's Key West, it's Pina Coladas, it's country music. And those suckers showed up, man. They who the hell's not those chicken people are coming for sure. Geno: Tough to say no, tough to say no. LOCASH: I mean imagine everyone's coming. All four of these guys, man, they showed up, man, and and we started at one end of Duval and we just turned the cameras on and walked straight down from one bar to the last bar, and that's the video. I mean just stopping at all different kinds of spots. We had a golf cart. We had so much fun, man. We had so many pina coladas today. So many. I think we ordered one at every bar. I mean, it was it was nuts. Yeah. Mark: The first time I heard it was down at Hilton Head, at the LOCASH: Yeah. Mark: at your low cash golf bash. And I hadn't heard it until then. And I was like, what is this song? Like this is just LOCASH: Yeah. Mark: a really cool song. And I've been listening to it ever since. Yeah. LOCASH: It's it's cool, it's ear candy, man. You know, it came out of the box hot too. We had millions of views on the content that we had shot. So we had a big tee up, then the release went really well. we ended up we couldn't get the timing quite right on both artists to release it as a single to radio at the same time. So we went with talking about they have a song called God Knew Better, and we kind of agreed, just like you said, people are still discovering this song. So we're gonna let it kind of sit and simmer. Who knows? Maybe next spring, next summer, it might be a single on country radio. We'll see. Mark: it it should be 'cause it's it's such a cool song to listen to and f it's fun, LOCASH: Thank you. Mark: you know, it really is. How how is the like you mentioned getting songs on the radio? And I know obviously that's historically that's how b bands got discovered and and got, you know, juice and the whole thing. And that's changed completely now. What has that change been like for you guys to like utilize all the different mediums now that you can use to get yourself out there. LOCASH: I think it's a a good thing in some ways and a bad thing in some ways. cause we are a little bit old school and you know, we're always willing to to change. Obviously have to be able to change in the times. And I do like the fact that people could get to know you a little bit easier, you know, they get to know your story a little bit. And, you know, there's ways to get it out there for people that don't have record deals. But now, you know, with AI and all the crazy stuff that's happening, anybody could put out I mean big red, you know, our leprechaun. He could get he could put it out right now. Come here, man. Big red. Hey, hey, stand right here and click your heels, man. Mark: Big right. Geno: Big Red! Hey, Big Red! The muscle! Mark: Love big red. LOCASH: Click your heels. Mark: I might I might have said something at the golf tournament. LOCASH: it's so good. That was one of my favorite moments of the whole time. I mean, literally, Big Red can't sing a lick, but he could put out something right now and be discovered. Good things, bad things, blah, blah, blah. We still love our radio stations too because we, you know, we're truly those fans. We have a lot of friends at radio, so we do push for the radio scene. but the DSPs are cool because we could put out our whole album and you get to see when you put it out on a Spotify or Apple or Amazon, whatever it is, you get to see. which one is streaming the most. So you get to see which ones the fans are really liking. So that helps us for our live show where we can dig in and like, okay man, they're really digging this song a lot. Especially this week it's up twenty, you know, two hundred thousand, twenty thousand, whatever it is for that song. And we'll end up singing it in our show. Mark: What's your thoughts on AI as a as performers? I mean, it it's it's affecting everyone and and will affect LOCASH: Yeah. Mark: everyone. like as a comedian, you know, someone can put out an AI and, you know, be be funny and steal everyone's material. W what's what's your perspective from a band standpoint? LOCASH: That's crazy, man. That's kind of Yeah. That's what's happening right now. Same happening. I mean, you got the top when we just started a little bit, I asked AI to go find 'cause there are good things about AI, not necessarily creative. But you know, I we asked AI how many we were going through the Apple top one hundred on Apple, and it was like thirty, forty percent AI artists. Somebody sitting on Instagram creating their artist creating I'm I get the names the names just started looking weird to me. Yeah. I was like, Geno: That's so weird. LOCASH: hey, wait a minute. That that doesn't sound like a real person. So then I would actually click on it. And then I was like, wait, this doesn't and and then I would go to their social media and it didn't even look real. And I was like, How can this artist be in the top fifty? Like this isn't this doesn't feel right. This doesn't feel Believing Geno: Yes. LOCASH: they're real. Believing they're real. I can't wait to see you live, Raising Cain or whatever your name is. Yeah, they were going. They were going to these AI social media handles and they were commenting on the post saying, I can't wait to come to your concert. When are you when are you performing? But they're never coming to concert. They're AI, right? People are actually Yeah, people are actually believing it. They're gonna Geno: They're gonna have a hologram. Like they're have a hologram on the stage, yeah. LOCASH: They're gonna have to. I saw one comment said, When are you performing in Sandwich? I was like, That must have been Johnny. Yeah, Mark: Cut out of me, Johnny. LOCASH: you know. Did Johnny ever tell you I sent him a picture Geno: circus tent. LOCASH: of a of a cop Johnny's from Sandwich, right? And so I sent him a picture of a cop car sitting at a subway. I said, Look, it's the sandwich police. It's my favorite joke of all time. Mark: That's that's horrible. Geno: I liked it. Mark: I'm not gonna judge it as a comedian, Geno: I'm a big... Mark: but I'm not gonna use it on my next show. I'll be honest with you. LOCASH: No. Mark: here's a all right, full disclosure, here's a funny story. So, you know, you find hockey people on Instagram and I'll reach out to them to see if they want to come on the podcast. Well, there was one particular girl that was a big Montreal Canadiens fan. So I thought, it'd be cool LOCASH: Right, Montreal. Mark: to have a Montreal fan on, you know, we're Boston. And, you know, she was hot. LOCASH: There we go. Geno: Go Sox! Mark: She was hot. And I start talking with her and she's talking about and then finally she goes, I have to be honest with you, I'm actually AI. And I was like, What? And she she said LOCASH: Nah Are you serious? Mark: she's a real person, but the person on Instagram is AI, like her AI version. LOCASH: Is AI, yeah. Mark: And I was like, that ruins it. So it ruins everything. LOCASH: was everything. That's it's it's unbelievable to me. So you I know you've had a lot of hockey players. you know, we're we're friends with a a bunch of you know, I'm friends with Patty. You had Patty on there yet? Maroon? Mark: No, we haven't. Geno: No, we haven't had Pat Maroon yet. We just had, we had his, you know, what is, what do you call it? His skills coach on. Yeah, his personal coach on, yeah. I reffed him in the minors, yeah, when he played in Adirondack. I would love Pat on here, that'd be awesome. He told me I sucked a couple of times on the ice, yeah. Mark: Personal coach, yeah, skills coach on last week. LOCASH: Okay. We gotta get Maroon on here, man. We can get Patty on here. Might be able to get you He's such a great dude, Mark: yeah. LOCASH: man. He's one of our favorites though, man. He's he's fantastic. I love it. Geno: Nah, I was so happy to see him, his success and same thing, right? He struggled in the minors and he grinded it out. LOCASH: Same thing, right? Like he struggled in the minors. Yeah. Geno: especially his skill set and the type of player he was, you don't have that in the NHL anymore. And it's great to see his success and actually contributing to Stanley Cups. LOCASH: I talk about Belleski. So I talk about Peleski or not? Yeah. Yeah. They don't care. He's Tampa. Dude, he's a big old teddy bear too, man. He's like one of our favorite dudes. Like, Geno: Yep. it's awesome. LOCASH: you know, I I was going through something one time and somebody printed something in a magazine about it. And he he reached out to me, man, and FaceTime me and he was like, Hey, I just I just want to talk to you for a few minutes and just You know, phone calls like that from friends, that's those time Geno: That's so cool. LOCASH: those that that's that's a timely kind of thing that gets you in the heart forever. So besides being a badass on the ice and whooping people's ass, he also is a big old teddy bear, you know. Vassy Geno: That's great. LOCASH: Vassy from the the Bolts too. I I don't want to talk about another team because I know we're in Boston right now, but he's a really cool d too. Mark: No, no, we we you can you we had Darren McCarty on from the Red Wing. LOCASH: we can talk about anybody. Okay, I was I was over with Johnny. I like, Can I talk about Bassie? I'm not really sure. Mark: No, you could talk about anyone in hockey. We had Darren McCarty on, Geno: Yeah. LOCASH: No, he Mark: we've we had Chris Nylon and John Newberry from the Canadiens. Yeah, we're we're not exclusive Boston Bruins over here. LOCASH: So I got I got to go to a football game with Vassie. It was just me and him. We had the only tickets and everybody else had like the suite, but there were two tickets. So Vassi was like, hey, well, I'll sit with you. I was like, all right, cool, man. We're we're going down to the Bucks game and I mean everybody's noticing him. I I don't think I had one person notice who I was, maybe. But I mean it's it's Vassie. You know, he sits down and they're Geno: Right. LOCASH: like, he's the best. So we're sitting there, man, and he just star he would just scream goal out nowhere at the football game. Goal! And then sit back down. It was so it was cracking me up, man. And then we just start talking. He's you know, he's got a a wife and kid and we were talking about, man, I was like, Russia, dude. I was like, What did you when you got to the United States, he goes, Well, I'm married. I said, What do you think of the United States women? He's like, They're okay, they're okay. But Mother Russia, Mother Russia. I'm like, Mother Russia, what? He's like, Hmm, Mother Russia. He's like I was like, That's all I said. I get the he said the he said Mother Russia wrote the book. So I tried to Google the book, it never came up. I was trying to Geno: The kick, LOCASH: look for it. Mark: Russian woman book. That's on the dark web. LOCASH: I don't know what he meant by it, but I he had me laughing the whole time so I didn't know if he was serious or not serious. Mark: Awesome. Geno: He was serious. LOCASH: He was serious. Mark: They LOCASH: Mother Rush wrote the book. I Geno: Vodka. LOCASH: hope I hope his wife gets in a fight with him over this right now. No, he told me he had his wife. He Mark: Yeah. LOCASH: said his Yeah, he said his He said his wife is beautiful. Okay, good. Yeah. Mark: She's not from Mother Russia. LOCASH: She is, she is. Okay, thank God. Thank God. She Mark: she is. LOCASH: is the she is actually the mother from I believe he said she was. I better make sure I'm a Google that AI. You better make sure it's too late. They done clipped that piece out, put it on NHL.com, and Vassie wants to kick your ass right now. Mark: Yep. Hey, if you get beat up by a goalie, that's not a good look. All right. LOCASH: He's gonna call you. He's gonna call you be like his father. It's Vasilevsky's wife. From Russia. He's trying to find out. I'm almost positive he told me she was. I can't Mark: I love it. LOCASH: wait to find Yes, see, that's right. That's right. See, that's why he said the book. Yeah. Thank God. Thank God. See? Mark: She is. All right, she's out of the book. That's good. You guys you guys are friends with James Neal, right down in Nashville? Well, LOCASH: Yeah. Yeah. Neiler. Mark: I heard he had a zebra. Like a real zebra. LOCASH: He had a zebra? He has a zebra. Currently? He currently has a zebra? Somebody go get those Piccotine people. Get over here. I know where he Mark: That's what yeah. Geno: Ahem. LOCASH: lives. I'ma go I'ma go find that zebra. Is it black or is it white? Yeah. Mark: Well, I met w I met his brother at the golf his brother was at the golf tournament and he said, You gotta come down and do a an episode with my brother on his farm because he has a zebra. LOCASH: On the zebra. You gotta do it on the zebra. I mean this is genius. Like Dude Mark: Yeah, yeah, we're gonna well he said you can ride the zebra. Geno: Yeah. LOCASH: you have to. Take your shirt off like Putin Geno: I'm in. LOCASH: and take pictures. This is genius. Yeah. Mark: tarps off on Geno: We'll be in Nashville, if my daughter makes the junior Bruins, we'll be in Nashville next summer, or next spring, April, yeah. Yeah, they go, yeah, they go, LOCASH: wow. Okay. All right. Mark: That that's perfect tarps off for the zebra. Geno: yeah, so we'll find out in two months. LOCASH: That's cool. Yeah, we're gonna set that up. All right, we're gonna set up the Nealer Yeah, the Neeler Zebra interview. my god, we thought it was Yeah, we'll get that. Mark: That's awesome. Now, what sport speaking of sports? yeah, we gotta set up Neiler with the zebra. We gotta come down. But we wanna do it when you guys are in town too, so that you guys can, you know, maybe show us around. Yeah. LOCASH: Yeah, for sure. He doesn't live far from me. I'll run over there. Yeah. Yeah, that'd be good. That'd be cool. Geno: Ride the zebra. Mark: I've never been to Nashville. LOCASH: gosh. Geno: great city. Mark: I know. LOCASH: dude, Nashville's great. Geno: It's our bees game there. It was awesome. LOCASH: Yeah, the Preds, they know what they're doing there, man. It's great entertainment, for real. Geno: Great barn too. It's an awesome barn. It's out right behind the net. Mark: I've been to Knoxville. Does Notchville count? I've been in Notchville. No. LOCASH: That don't no, that don't that don't count. That's three or four hours away. You got U T there, Mark: All right. LOCASH: which doesn't suck. Mark: Right. So I I mean, what sports did you you guys follow? Like I know you're big sports guys, right? And you know, what are the what are the sports in your teams that you kind of are diehard fans of? LOCASH: baseball and football all day long. baseball I'm with you know, I we have a lot of friends. A lot of friends that are in on different teams. So but with if I was to pick a home team now 'cause I live in Tampa so the Rays and obviously the hockey bolts, I love the Bolts. I will give it up for the Bruins 'cause they play a Lovest Life at the venue all the time when they play, so God Mark: Yes. LOCASH: bless them too. Geno: bees. LOCASH: You know, I think there's Preston is the Cubby's. I'm Cubs all day, ever since I was little. Harry Carey, man, that that's what got me into the case. It was either the Cubs on Channel 9 or the Braves on Channel 10. And the Braves announcers were they sucked. They were whore, they were boring and shit. And Geno: makes a difference. LOCASH: Harry Carey, Harry Carey's on channel nine talking about holy guy, just getting drunk on the air. And you're just like, man, this is my guy, right? And so you know, and then I fell in love with the team from there, you know. So Harry Carey did a lot for the Cubs, man. It was awesome. And then you know, Indianapolis Colts and the Indianapolis and the Indiana Pacers. So all three. Geno: Can't go wrong with that. Ozzy is a Peyton Manning, man. He was awesome. LOCASH: That's right. Mark: Yeah, I I'll be honest, as a Patriots fan, I hate the Colts. LOCASH: I do like it. I do like it when Boston plays Tampa all the time. Boston and Tampa the hockey man. It's that that they're two Geno: That's a good rival. LOCASH: It really is a good rival. It's fair, it's it's you know, but it you say you hate the Colts. Why why you hate the Colts? Tell me why. 'Cause of Fate. Mark: Yeah, I hate the Colts. Because of Peyton Peyton Manning, and they always were like the Patriots thorn when Manning was there. yeah. I don't know. I don't know. Anyone could have told him not to go for it. Yeah. LOCASH: Do you remember that fourth and two when Belichick went for it? What were you doing? I could I should have told you not to go for it. I remember the fake pun. I mean it's unbelievable. I think if if but I I will say this, and I know it's there's Geno: I would have went far. LOCASH: a there's a rough time right now for the Patriots, but we are secret Patriot fans. The crafts have been so good to us. They're great people. Great. I mean, I Geno: that's awesome. They are. LOCASH: love them so much. Gronk is awesome. I mean Tom sent us some stuff. But it's it's pretty cool. But the crafts have always been there. Mr. Kraft has hired us every year to come out and do something for the We usually do like a halftime Thursday night football game type thing with Amazon Prime and the Patriots and the organization is great, man. I mean it really is they've used this for Super Bowl stuff. I mean it's been great. And where I don't worry about ever, you know, not getting selling tickets, Boston. Boston we sell, man. P the the people are great country music fans in Boston. You know, Ben and Tendi used I Love This Life during the World Series. You know, that whole season actually. But going up That's Geno: that's right. LOCASH: why he got rookie of the year. I that's it was a lot of songs. Changing lives. Yeah. Changing Geno: Motivation, baby. LOCASH: lives. It is crazy, Mark: Changing lives. LOCASH: man. Yeah, you know, we became buddies from from all of that. And now we talk from time to time. And he sent us, you know, Red Sox jerseys and he wrote a big note on the back about I Love This Life. It was just super cool. Great, dude. Geno: My brother-in-law works for the Patriots. He does the post and pregame on the online and does the podcaster in LOCASH: okay. Very cool. Geno: the week. Mike do so, yeah. So he's been working the last handful of years. But yep. Yeah, LOCASH: Yeah. Cool. Geno: he does a great job with them. Pat's the best. Struggling right now, but I think we'll be all right. Drake May will come over. He'll be all right. Still young. LOCASH: You will. What do you think, Johnny? You guys gonna be all right? we're gonna be just fine. Yeah, I I mean I was w I was r I was watching a thing just before this. It says a lot of Patriots fans are starting to panic. Panic a little early and fake fans. Fake fans, huh? Okay. Geno: No, it's way early. Give him time to develop. Mark: Yeah. Geno: He's still developing. Last year was a LOCASH: Yeah. Geno: little different, but. LOCASH: Yeah, I mean it's Mark: Real real LOCASH: He's gotta gain in he'll Mark: Real. LOCASH: gain into it, man. He's fine. Mark: Us real Boston fans, we don't we don't panic and we don't leave ship, no matter what it is. For the Bruins, Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox, you know, whether they're doing well or not. LOCASH: Love it. Yeah, I mean you guys went through Geno: That's it. LOCASH: harder than just about anybody. When you guys didn't win anything for like thirty years. So it was like Geno: I mean my daughter, I mean my wife Mark: Yes. Geno: said to my daughter, hey you have to wear something red socks and she goes why? I go well they're playing the fucking Yankees and you're from Boston, that's why. LOCASH: Yeah. That's great. That's awesome. Mark: Yeah, we had some dark times when I was a kid growing up. And you know, now we've had a quite a run, which is nice. what's your favorite what for the LOCASH: Give us your prediction. Give us your prediction, Red Sox Yankees, let's go. Mark: Red Sox all day. All day. Geno: Red Sox all day. Peyton totally is gonna mow them down tonight, baby. Let's go. Mark: I yeah, I think I like our chances and and you know if we get hot like we got hot there Geno: They're resilient. Mark: for a while, we could make a quite we could make a good little run. LOCASH: Yeah. Mark: Unfortunately the team also can lose two games in a row and be done. So it's you know, it's a quite a dike. LOCASH: I know, I know. You know, we got to play Fenway, Geno: very possible. LOCASH: when we were on the Kane Brown tour. We got to play Fenway Mark: Yeah. LOCASH: and that was that was a surreal experience, man. Just unreal to to go. And you know, whenever you play there, they take you inside, you know, and you sign Geno: Right. LOCASH: the wall and all the fun stuff. It was really a day, man. One for the books. Mark: Th that was I I I was Geno: lot of history then, Mark: pretty upset I didn't get to that concert 'cause I really wanted to to get to that one. 'cause i I've been fortunate to see you guys live, but not in that kind of venue, you know? LOCASH: Yeah. Yeah. I don't make you feel bad, but it was incredible. It's one maybe one of the best concerts ever. We don't know. It's okay. Yeah. Didn't miss anything, honestly. Mark: Yeah, all right, thank thanks for that. I know I did. What's your favorite place Geno: You missed it, you missed it! I it. Mark: what's your favorite city to go to? LOCASH: Boston is and I'm not saying I swear to you, I say it on any in every interview you can ask Johnny. Boston is one of my favorite cities to play. I love the city. I think it's a very cool city. People are cool. I love anywhere on the beach other than that. If you if you put me on a beach, it'll be one of the favorite places I play. So Myrtle Beach is a cool one. San Diego's cool. Anywhere in Florida's cool. we played Jones Beach was cool. Yeah. And then we played Red Rocks with the Beach Boys. That was cool. Red Rocks was pretty special. Mm-hmm. Geno: Red Rocks is sick, man. LOCASH: Have you been there? Geno: I've never seen a concert, but I refereed out in Denver, and you gotta go kill the day, so go check it out. LOCASH: Yeah, yeah. It it's just it's so steep. It's so much steeper than you think, you know? And Geno: Yeah, it's cool. Yeah. LOCASH: but but then when you're standing on stage, it's opposite. It's like the crowd is lifted up above you and on. It's crazy. It's a wild. Yeah, man. And and backstage, Geno: That's gonna be different for you guys, yeah. I never thought of it like that. LOCASH: I don't know if you got to see backstage if you took a tour, Geno: Nope. LOCASH: but it's just unreal. If you're claustrophobic, you don't want to go. Yeah, it's like it's Geno: Okay. LOCASH: almost like caves. Yeah, it's like little tunnels. It's wild, man. Geno: shit. LOCASH: And they've let the Red was running through it when we got in there. He was just running around through the t yeah. Like like a leprechaun. He was looking for his lucky charms. He couldn't find his lucky charms. Isn't that crazy? Bro, it's wild, right? Yeah. Mark: He's at home in tunnels. Geno: bouncing off the walls. Did he run up the stairs? Because I've seen people run up those stairs. yeah, people every time I'm there, someone's running it. Yeah. Yeah. LOCASH: Red Rocks is pretty awesome. that's funny. Geno: That's pretty cool. Mark: And getting to play the with the Beach Boys, that that's gotta be crazy. LOCASH: Bring me lucky charms. Yeah. Yeah, we've done a bunch of stuff with them guys and you know, Mike is become like a big brother to us and Stamos jumps on the drums from time to time, Uncle Jesse and it's crazy. Yeah. Geno: Uncle Jesse, yes. Mark: Wow. LOCASH: I mean it it's it's crazy. Guy still looks good man. We played Not as good as us he does look good Geno: How's the hair? How's the flow? LOCASH: though. bro his hair is beautiful man. It's not fair. It's it's not fair. Geno: It's not a here, not a place. LOCASH: I see him and I I'm blow it. I'm like look at your hair it's beautiful. Yeah. He's got a restraining order against him for it's beautiful hair guys. It you we had Geno: You LOCASH: what literally we did list of restraining orders against Chris. We did a show in DC and we were with Stamos and Richard Marks. Let's talk about Jeter. You have a restraining order against him too. I mean let's Mark: Yeah. LOCASH: just turn it on. Sorry. Guys, listen. It just goes on and on. Richard Marx, John Stamos together on stage with us. Two beautiful hair. I mean, their hair are Geno: Blah. LOCASH: I wasn't sure where you were going with that. Absolutely. Their hair I mean look guys, I could say this because I have hair envy. I want hair. Geno: I'm with you, bro. LOCASH: You know what I mean? And their flow is perfect. It's absolutely perfect. All right, enough about their hair. Yep. Mark: No, they that is some epic lettuce that they have for sure, you know? LOCASH: It is. See I like that. That's a good that's a like a tough guy way to say it. Chris just went to the salon with it. I I struggled. I said flow and the beautiful hair. He's like, Yeah, they got a good head of lettuce. Hey. Flow's good. Geno: You're on the chirping zebras here, come on. Mark: Flow's flow's good. Flow's good. I'm a I'm a lettuce guy. And you know, it I got some good lettuce, Geno: Look at this here, like not a speck out of place. Mark: you know, and John Stamos, that's a LOCASH: I mean that's in that's perfect. Mark: that's a full on Caesar salad. That's a full on Caesar Geno: We're wearing hats. He's got the... Mark: salad that John Stamos has. That thing should have anchovies on it, you know. LOCASH: Guys, is it? Is it weird I'm getting a back scratch on the counter back? I'm just back here getting a back scratch on the counter. Mark: Well long as you don't cage a chicken, you're good. Geno: Yeah. Stick all in the LOCASH: They're coming after us soon. Geno: bus. Stick all in the bus. We're gonna have the chicken people after us. We're have the chicken people after us. Mark: So what's up LOCASH: How we get a picket on the bus. Get these damn chickens off of here. We should go to tractor supply and get a bunch of chicks and just let run around. Free.
