2:18
Speaker 3: with it be in the first Monday of the math.
2:19
Speaker 3: Technically not Monday, but you're gonna think it's Monday all

2:26
Speaker 3: little bit later on the show. And I know, technically
2:29
Speaker 3: it is still summertime. It will be summer until September
2:32
Speaker 3: twenty second technically, but some folks are already thinking about fall.
2:36
Speaker 3: And if you've been into the stores, you have seen
2:39
Speaker 3: Halloween decorations. They've been up to I think since Easter.
2:42
Speaker 3: But there are a lot of that stuff kind of
2:44
Speaker 3: going on right now. Pumpkin spice everything, and haunted houses,

3:14
Speaker 3: We want to talk a little politics this morning. I
3:16
Speaker 3: want to bring into the show Canada for prosecutor here
3:18
Speaker 3: in Kanawk County, John Mitchell, John, good morning, Welcome to
3:20
Speaker 3: the show, Dave.
3:21
Speaker 4: Thanks, good morning you, and welcome back to the Stern.
3:25
Speaker 3: Yes, I am back a little time in the Palmetto
3:29
Speaker 3: state of South Carolina.
3:30
Speaker 4: Beautiful country. I'm sure you all had a great time,
3:32
Speaker 4: and hopefully the weather wasn't too bad.
3:34
Speaker 3: Weather was good the entire time. Rained a little bit
3:37
Speaker 3: coming back, but I think we were already in Virginia
3:40
Speaker 3: or West Virginia by that point. More importantly to me, John,
3:42
Speaker 3: as I ate, Well, that's all that's all I really
3:45
Speaker 3: care about.
3:45
Speaker 4: That's a good important me and beautiful weather here. And
3:47
Speaker 4: thank you for having me on your show.
3:48
Speaker 3: Absolutely tell us about John Mitchell. Who is John Mitchell?
3:51
Speaker 4: He was your bio well famous, been here since the
3:54
Speaker 4: eighteen eighties, Monroe County since the seventeen eighties. I've been
3:58
Speaker 4: practicing law here for forty years. My father practice law
4:01
Speaker 4: for sixty years before. That's why I'm John Mitchell Junior.
4:07
Speaker 4: I'm here because I'm a candidate. I'm a Democrat nominee
4:09
Speaker 4: for prosecuting Attorney here in Kanall County. In terms of
4:13
Speaker 4: a resume, I don't know how much you want to
4:15
Speaker 4: go on and on and on.
4:16
Speaker 3: Well, we've only got about ten minutes, so to basically
4:19
Speaker 3: give us the highlights, well.
4:20
Speaker 4: Highlights of our assistant prosecutor a few years ago, started
4:23
Speaker 4: having children and need a bigger income. I've been practicing
4:27
Speaker 4: for forty years. As you might know, might not know,
4:30
Speaker 4: I once served as state senator here for Kanall County.
4:35
Speaker 4: I've had an extensive practice in the criminal law area,
4:39
Speaker 4: but I've also had a general practice as well a
4:41
Speaker 4: wide breath practice. I've served as a legal or head
4:45
Speaker 4: or chairman of the Criminal Law Committee Forliciting State Bar
4:49
Speaker 4: for a number of years. I've been legal counsel to
4:52
Speaker 4: the judiciaries of the legislature. And I've run a law
4:57
Speaker 4: practice all these years. Now I met that aren't sure
5:00
Speaker 4: in my life where I can afford to be prosecuting
5:02
Speaker 4: attorney and desire to be prosecuting attorney. And really, quite frankly,
5:06
Speaker 4: when I use all the skills that I've developed and
5:08
Speaker 4: hound author these years to make a contribution back to
5:12
Speaker 4: our county and to the people of this part of
5:14
Speaker 4: the state.
5:15
Speaker 3: What is it about the office of prosecutor that appealed
5:17
Speaker 3: to you? I know you talked about at this point
5:19
Speaker 3: in your life that you're to position where you could
5:20
Speaker 3: do but why would you want to at this point?
5:23
Speaker 4: I guess It's been an interesting man I've been involved with.
5:25
Speaker 4: I've closed almost twelve thousand files and it has a
5:30
Speaker 4: lot to do. It's not just being a prosecutor putting
5:33
Speaker 4: people in jail. It covers so many of the issues
5:35
Speaker 4: we're dealing with in the mental health issues. I was
5:38
Speaker 4: president of the Western Geni Mental Health Consumer Association one time.
5:42
Speaker 4: Drug addiction issues, child connected abuse issues, alcohol issues, so
5:49
Speaker 4: many of the cross the board things that we are
5:52
Speaker 4: dealing with now that basically tearing our society down. It
5:55
Speaker 4: all rolls in and in some way or another it
5:58
Speaker 4: gets addressed by the prosecuting attorney. It's not a matterge
6:01
Speaker 4: just taking a robber making sure he goes to jail
6:03
Speaker 4: for a long time. It's much more complicated than that.
6:08
Speaker 4: It's one reason I've often talked in terms of my
6:11
Speaker 4: experience against my opponent is my opponent has been as
6:15
Speaker 4: a commendable eight and a half nine years as an
6:17
Speaker 4: assistant prosecutor, but she's dealt with a tree in the
6:20
Speaker 4: practice of law. I've been dealing with the forest for
6:23
Speaker 4: forty years, and I think I have a good grasp
6:26
Speaker 4: on how to apply that, and I've got good intentions.
6:29
Speaker 4: I don't have any ambitions beyond finishing my career and
6:32
Speaker 4: doing it honorably and bringing back what it was when
6:35
Speaker 4: I was doing it forty years ago, when we had
6:38
Speaker 4: some real titans like Charlie King and Irene Berger, Pete Brown,
6:42
Speaker 4: Jim Stuckey. There was a mindset at that time, a
6:48
Speaker 4: sense of professionalism that I'll throw out there and say
6:51
Speaker 4: it needs to come back.
6:53
Speaker 3: Expand upon that, I mean, how did it What exactly
6:57
Speaker 3: are you're saying there is?
6:58
Speaker 4: It's not an issue and That's not a platform statement, really,
7:01
Speaker 4: but it's my percession of how it was when I
7:05
Speaker 4: was there. The office was very very close, very very professional,
7:11
Speaker 4: and everybody was on the same cause, so to speak.
7:16
Speaker 4: The times of change obviously, and they have a lot
7:19
Speaker 4: more younger people in there now who are also have ambitions.
7:23
Speaker 4: One of our biggest issues is probably if I became prosecutors,
7:26
Speaker 4: trying to get that county commission and provide enough money
7:29
Speaker 4: to keep experience attorneys in there so that they can
7:31
Speaker 4: really find hunt their skills.
7:34
Speaker 3: Let's talk about drugs for a moment, and whether I've
7:37
Speaker 3: had you, I've had your opponent on the show, I've
7:39
Speaker 3: talked to law enforcement. Everybody says, and this is true
7:42
Speaker 3: across the country, that about probably ninety percent of every
7:47
Speaker 3: case that comes to the court system somehow is involved
7:50
Speaker 3: in drugs. Whether it's a large need somebody stealing something
7:53
Speaker 3: to get their drugs, whether it's an actual drug deal somewhere,
7:56
Speaker 3: drugs are involved in it. How do we fix that?
8:01
Speaker 4: If I had the answer to be a trillionare right now?
8:03
Speaker 4: That's the right look, I will say, it's much different
8:06
Speaker 4: than it was forty years ago. Yeah, you had the
8:09
Speaker 4: criminal mind and a criminal mind, quite frankly, often didn't
8:13
Speaker 4: do drugs. They knew better. Your drug dealers didn't do drugs,
8:16
Speaker 4: then they knew better. But yes, now that's what it's done.
8:18
Speaker 4: It's quite frankly strict people of their souls, their spirits,
8:21
Speaker 4: their their honor. It's gotten to the point where people
8:26
Speaker 4: have to start and be completely rebuilt. And we're just
8:30
Speaker 4: starting to get a grasp of taking people and not
8:33
Speaker 4: necessarily if you throw them into a penitentiary, they're gonna
8:36
Speaker 4: come out still a drug addict. We have to, we
8:40
Speaker 4: have we're starting to get with the day reports centers
8:42
Speaker 4: and the drug courts. Judge Bailey was su incment and
8:47
Speaker 4: Judge Will Thompson now United States Tournament su instrumental in
8:50
Speaker 4: that concept. One of the things about prosecuting attorney is
8:54
Speaker 4: that there's a moment when every case is going to
8:57
Speaker 4: go before the circuit courts that's crime related is in
9:00
Speaker 4: the prosecuting attorney's office, and then it dissipates out to
9:03
Speaker 4: what eight nine different circuit judges here in the county,
9:07
Speaker 4: which is going to get addressed in different ways, in
9:09
Speaker 4: different manners as well. We need a profound system, a
9:15
Speaker 4: defined system that can recognize and deal between somebody with
9:19
Speaker 4: a serious drug addict and some way of a serious
9:21
Speaker 4: criminal mind. There are people out there, quite frankly, that
9:25
Speaker 4: need to be stashed away the rest of their lives
9:27
Speaker 4: and they don't need to be soaking up our resources
9:30
Speaker 4: when we could use those resources to help people that
9:34
Speaker 4: might have been a broken leg and got overprescribed or
9:37
Speaker 4: had a bad moment in their life. And we have
9:40
Speaker 4: to get away from this mindsets to society that people
9:43
Speaker 4: can just on their own throw switch and stop using
9:46
Speaker 4: if there is a process that needs support and back
9:51
Speaker 4: up on it mechanism too.
9:52
Speaker 3: It as well talk with John Mitchell again, who's a
9:55
Speaker 3: candidate for prosecutor in Kanac County. The Dave Island Showing
9:57
Speaker 3: five eighty Live has brought to you a part by
9:59
Speaker 3: Pinnicle Consultants. Pinnacle offers a four phase assessment for your
10:02
Speaker 3: properties INSPECS and sampling and analysis, comprehensive reporting and management planning.
10:06
Speaker 3: Visit Pinnacle Court dot net because what you don't know
10:09
Speaker 3: can hurt you, John. The primary election for prosecutor got
10:13
Speaker 3: a little heated between the candidates at that time. Deb
10:17
Speaker 3: Rusnick is now serving in that role after being appointed
10:20
Speaker 3: there do you anticipate this campaign being a nasty campaign.
10:24
Speaker 4: Or between me and Debbia Rosnik we're good friends. Yeah,
10:29
Speaker 4: Deborah knows that if I should prevail, she has a job.
10:35
Speaker 4: She's a skilled trial lawyer, and that's important. You need
10:38
Speaker 4: that in a prossecuting attorney's office. I think you need
10:42
Speaker 4: my assaultiness and my wisdom to oversee in the channel
10:45
Speaker 4: that skills of hers are the best way.
10:47
Speaker 6: No, that.
10:49
Speaker 4: Is not the way I've ever conducted my campaigns. I
10:51
Speaker 4: was proud of the fact that when I ran for Senate,
10:53
Speaker 4: I was running against the income at Jack Buffaloo, and
10:56
Speaker 4: we would give our speeches and go have lunch together.
10:59
Speaker 3: What a novel concept. I mean, you know, and people
11:03
Speaker 3: and the listeners John have heard me talk about it
11:05
Speaker 3: on the show. Politics should not be a death sport.
11:07
Speaker 3: I mean, you should be able to shake hands one
11:10
Speaker 3: with the other. Your supporters should be able to do
11:12
Speaker 3: that and go, hey, congratulations, let's move on, or you
11:15
Speaker 3: and I agree to disagree. But somehow in this country,
11:17
Speaker 3: and we could spend three or four shows talking about that, John,
11:20
Speaker 3: we've kind of gotten away from that. And that's that's
11:22
Speaker 3: not the way that that it was intended to be
11:24
Speaker 3: in my opinion, in.
11:25
Speaker 4: My professional world as attorneys, you would think that two
11:27
Speaker 4: lawyers were going at each other's throats and then we
11:31
Speaker 4: could go off and have lunch together. I think in
11:33
Speaker 4: terms of trial lawyers, we still have that camaraderie, that
11:36
Speaker 4: respect that we can be very aggressive in the court
11:39
Speaker 4: room but not take it outside of the courtroom. I
11:42
Speaker 4: don't see why we can't do that politically as well.
11:45
Speaker 4: The mudslinging the well, we could. We could start a
11:49
Speaker 4: presidential racing then roll all day exactly. It doesn't It
11:52
Speaker 4: doesn't agree.
11:53
Speaker 3: With how has the campaign been so far? I mean,
11:55
Speaker 3: what what is your campaign style? You were obviously you've
11:57
Speaker 3: campaigned before, as you mentioned, you were in the legislature,
11:59
Speaker 3: So what is your what's your campaign styling?
12:02
Speaker 4: Much different? We didn't have the social media, multimedia type
12:06
Speaker 4: of campaigns twenty five years ago. You're very right, you
12:09
Speaker 4: marching your praise and youno, doors knocked doors and and
12:15
Speaker 4: quite frankly, I don't have that ability. I have a
12:18
Speaker 4: full time practice still and most people don't know, but
12:22
Speaker 4: I am a single father of two young children. I've
12:24
Speaker 4: been raising by myself twenty four to seven now, since
12:27
Speaker 4: they were babies. They're now eleven and seven. But I
12:30
Speaker 4: don't have the luxury of going out every day knocking
12:32
Speaker 4: on doors. You are as much a part as anybody.
12:36
Speaker 4: I'm investing money's campaigns, investing money and the multimedia aspects
12:40
Speaker 4: of it. I can't keep uping but yard signs. People
12:43
Speaker 4: want the yard signs. I think they want them for
12:46
Speaker 4: maybe for targets or deer season coming.
12:49
Speaker 2: In, But.
12:52
Speaker 4: That's it. It's words getting out. One thing I have
12:54
Speaker 4: going for me is I have practice here in the value.
12:56
Speaker 4: I do have some name recognition, and I always say
12:59
Speaker 4: I'm playing off of that as well.
13:01
Speaker 3: I don't know if there are any I know there
13:03
Speaker 3: there will be some various meat the candidates forums and
13:06
Speaker 3: things of that nature. Is that something that you and
13:08
Speaker 3: your opponent would would be open to you? I know
13:10
Speaker 3: you can't speak for her, but is this something that
13:12
Speaker 3: you would that you'd like to do?
13:13
Speaker 4: Maybe talk to talk to the public, debah. If there's
13:17
Speaker 4: anywhere she can get somewhere and be seeing, she's going
13:19
Speaker 4: to do it. She has been very energetic and has
13:22
Speaker 4: been for last year. If this was a campaign I
13:24
Speaker 4: who put the most energy and time into it, she
13:27
Speaker 4: would win hands down. We don't have any from We've
13:31
Speaker 4: had a couple ofcations now where we've both been speakers
13:33
Speaker 4: at the same tribunal so to speak. We were recently
13:37
Speaker 4: addressing the FOP, and I think that if people, of
13:44
Speaker 4: course is do people really want to hear it?
13:46
Speaker 3: Well, what happens a lot of times, unfortunately in the
13:49
Speaker 3: John in a lot of these meet the Candidates forums
13:52
Speaker 3: that you have, there are more candidates and or candidates
13:54
Speaker 3: people there than there are members of the public exactly.
13:56
Speaker 3: And the bottom line is, if people want to find
13:58
Speaker 3: out about you, you know, you mentioned using our resources.
14:01
Speaker 3: There are yard signs, there are there, you know, websites
14:05
Speaker 3: and so on in social media whatever, they're gonna find
14:07
Speaker 3: out about you. Speaking of such, where can people learn
14:10
Speaker 3: more about your campaign?
14:12
Speaker 4: Well, I never was a very good advertiser. I never
14:14
Speaker 4: self promoted very well as an attorney. It's always been
14:17
Speaker 4: by the word. I've never had a site, so to speak.
14:21
Speaker 4: The Democratic Committee as actually committee, has started something for me.
14:25
Speaker 4: I do have a basic campaign site, but you know
14:29
Speaker 4: who I am, I want to stand for. We've pretty
14:31
Speaker 4: much covered here today. I don't have a magic wand
14:34
Speaker 4: or a magic remedy.
14:36
Speaker 3: Give me the final thirty seconds uninterrupted by me watching
14:39
Speaker 3: someone vote for John Mitchell, prosecutor of Kana Accounting.
14:42
Speaker 4: Because you're gonna get good results, You're going to get
14:45
Speaker 4: a world in a lifetime of experience, and somebody has
14:48
Speaker 4: dedicated themselves to that office and not have any ambition
14:51
Speaker 4: going to any place outs. I want to beneficial. I
14:54
Speaker 4: want people to say I did a good job. John.
14:56
Speaker 3: We wish are the best of luck. We'll probably have
14:58
Speaker 3: you on again before election day. Thanks a lot, we.
15:00
Speaker 4: Look forward to that. Thank you very much. Do then
15:01

Speaker 3: never too early to start talking about them. The folks
19:35
Speaker 3: from Scare View are here with us, They were on
19:37

19:39
Speaker 3: I'll let you guys introduce yourselves. Go ahead, Don Owens, okay,
19:45
Speaker 3: say that again. You cut out on me a little
19:46

19:46
Speaker 10: James Bonnett okay.
19:48
Speaker 3: James and Don Well, welcome back. Don I think you
19:49
Speaker 3: were James, were you on the show last year? Okay?
19:52
Speaker 3: Both of you were. Okay. So first of all, let
19:54
Speaker 3: me get into the dates. What are the dates?
19:57
Speaker 10: Starting out in September all the way through October Friday and.
20:00
Speaker 3: Saturday, September, the twenty seventh and twenty eighth, October fourth, fifth, eleventh,
20:04
Speaker 3: and twelfth, eighteenth, nineteenth, twenty fifth, and twenty sixth and
20:08
Speaker 3: to kind of get people ready for that. I understand
20:10
Speaker 3: that you're not putting on a car show, but you're
20:12
Speaker 3: kind of just hosting yea.
20:14
Speaker 10: Car show, car show for the West Virginia Girls Club.
20:16
Speaker 3: And that is called Ghoules and Gears. Now, which one
20:19
Speaker 3: of you came up with that? Or did somebody?
20:20
Speaker 10: They did?
20:21
Speaker 3: They did the West Virginia Car Girls Group. Interesting title.
20:26
Speaker 3: And that is going to be on Saturday the fourteenth,
20:28
Speaker 3: from four to eighth. And that's actually on the grounds
20:30
Speaker 3: or like where you do scared of youse that right now?
20:32
Speaker 3: And what is that? In case I forget to ask you?
20:34
Speaker 11: Where is that?
20:35
Speaker 10: It's one o nine High Street, Saint Albans, Okay.
20:37
Speaker 3: One of nine High Street in Saint Albans. You've got
20:39
Speaker 3: a costume contest, you got a wards, you got concessions
20:42
Speaker 3: of truck retreat and to get your cars in. It
20:45
Speaker 3: is ten dollars I think is the registration for that.
20:49
Speaker 3: So why are we talking about this already? It's not
20:51
Speaker 3: even it's summertime.
20:53
Speaker 10: We're trying a new The next Friday, Saturday the sixth,
20:58
Speaker 10: the seventh, the thirteenth, and fourteenth, we're doing what we
21:01
Speaker 10: call VIP night you come in, we give you free
21:04

21:06
Speaker 3: Minutes, and so what exactly will go on during that time.
21:10
Speaker 10: Depends because our actors have free room too.
21:14
Speaker 3: He said in a very in a very foreboding kindaway.
21:18
Speaker 3: Don yeah, it's uh.
21:21
Speaker 4: Ah yeah.
21:21
Speaker 11: We'll be waiting for you in the darkness and we'll
21:23
Speaker 11: kind of surprise you with what you're going to see.
21:27
Speaker 3: Okay, so we'll just leave it at that, right, What
21:29
Speaker 3: are there any age restrictions on getting him?
21:32
Speaker 12: No?
21:33
Speaker 3: So any any ages welcome?
21:35
Speaker 2: Right?
21:35
Speaker 10: Yep? Okay, fifteen dollars per person. Like I said, you
21:39
Speaker 10: get forty five minutes.
21:40
Speaker 4: In the building.
21:41
Speaker 3: So how many years has this thing been going on?
21:43
Speaker 10: Since two thousand and eight?
21:44
Speaker 3: Two thousand and eight? And were you guys in it
21:46
Speaker 3: from the very beginning? I was, Okay, what made you
21:48
Speaker 3: want to do this?
21:49
Speaker 10: I've been doing it since I was fourteen.
21:52
Speaker 3: You're just a scary guy for forty nine now, so
21:55
Speaker 3: you just started doing honted houses?
21:57
Speaker 10: Love it?
21:57
Speaker 3: How many are you originally from this? Did you grow
22:00
Speaker 3: up here? Okay?
22:01
Speaker 10: Sunfieldrew?
22:02
Speaker 3: Okay, so were there a lot of these around?
22:05
Speaker 13: There were, but they weren't as big they were like
22:08
Speaker 13: just little. The best one I can think of was
22:11
Speaker 13: the Myers House in Saint Albans. That's the one that
22:13
Speaker 13: always got me.
22:14
Speaker 3: Okay, well what was it was just a little house.
22:16
Speaker 3: What was so special about that?
22:18
Speaker 10: Chainsaws coming through the wall.
22:19
Speaker 3: Well, okay, that's It's always good.
22:21
Speaker 11: So I've been to a longer, Jamie. I've been to
22:23
Speaker 11: Sin saus In College in nineteen eighty nine and uh
22:26
Speaker 11: we actually uh I'm from the Princeton area originally, and
22:30
Speaker 11: we actually built the Princeton Library, doing a haunted house
22:33
Speaker 11: out of the old post office that they had there
22:35
Speaker 11: in Princeton. So I've been doing this quite a long time,
22:39
Speaker 11: talking to the.
22:39
Speaker 3: Folks with Scare of You the Dave Island showing five
22:41
Speaker 3: Idea Live Bright to you apart by your hometown baseball team,
22:44
Speaker 3: Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds kick off a three game road

Speaker 3: series tonight in Hagarstown. Their final regular season home series
22:50
Speaker 3: starts this Friday night at Gomark Ballpark. For ticket schedules, merchandise,
22:53
Speaker 3: and more, visit dirty Birds Baseball dot com. Let's play
22:56
Speaker 3: amateur psychologists here for a moment down Jamie, why is
22:59
Speaker 3: it that people like to be scared? I mean, people
23:02
Speaker 3: in their right minds shouldn't want to be scared, but
23:04
Speaker 3: people do. It's a multimillion dollar industry.
23:06
Speaker 10: Why is that it took over Christmas?
23:10
Speaker 3: It is, that's true. Halloween is now bigger. I mean
23:13
Speaker 3: from a merchandising standpoint, specifically for that Halloween is now
23:16
Speaker 3: bigger than Christmas.
23:17
Speaker 10: I don't think it's people like some people do like
23:20
Speaker 10: to get scared.
23:22
Speaker 13: I think that a lot of people it's the adrenaline rush,
23:26
Speaker 13: just like anything else, like jumping off a bridge. I
23:28
Speaker 13: don't want to jump off a bridge, but they.
23:31
Speaker 3: Do it right, there's a lot of adrenaline.
23:33
Speaker 13: Adrenaline rush. A lot of people just like to look
23:36
Speaker 13: at the scenes and stuff that people put together. It's
23:39
Speaker 13: a complete artistic art.
23:41
Speaker 10: It's an art form basically.
23:42
Speaker 3: And it takes a lot of volunteers I would imagine
23:44
Speaker 3: pull this thing off. Yes, I mean because you guys
23:47
Speaker 3: aren't in this for the money.
23:48
Speaker 10: No, No, this all benefits the West Side Volunteer Fire Department.
23:51
Speaker 10: They owned the building, they owned the property.
23:53
Speaker 3: It's all on them, and I'm assuming that their members
23:56
Speaker 3: help out with it as well. And this is something
23:59
Speaker 3: I mean literally, you guys, if you ended up last year.
24:02
Speaker 3: Let me just say, a couple of days before Halloween,
24:04
Speaker 3: probably started like November first, working on next year's.
24:07
Speaker 10: Right, basically, yeah, I'm working on next year.
24:09
Speaker 3: Yeah, we started playing for next year and you've not
24:11
Speaker 3: even gone through this year.
24:12
Speaker 10: Now.
24:12
Speaker 3: In the green room, I was talking with you guys,
24:14
Speaker 3: and I mentioned that you were on the show last year,
24:16
Speaker 3: but you seem to have a little extra excitement about
24:18
Speaker 3: this year now. I mean, I know last year's was
24:20
Speaker 3: off the hook, but you got you got a little
24:22
Speaker 3: extra something this year.
24:24
Speaker 7: Yeah.
24:25
Speaker 10: It's completely remodeled.
24:26
Speaker 3: So if people go out Jamie, it's not going to
24:29
Speaker 3: be what they saw last year. There'll be some similarities,
24:31
Speaker 3: but it's all new, and I guess to have a
24:33
Speaker 3: successful event, you have to change it.
24:35
Speaker 10: Yes.
24:36
Speaker 3: How much input do you get from the people that
24:39
Speaker 3: come there, guys? I mean when your your customers, so
24:41
Speaker 3: to speak, or your your victims when they show up
24:45
Speaker 3: and they say, hey, this is awesome, we like this,
24:47
Speaker 3: maybe didn't like this as much. How much does the
24:49
Speaker 3: public have to do with this?
24:51
Speaker 4: A lot?
24:52
Speaker 10: I take a lot of that to heart.
24:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean you take the compliments and criticism. I guess,
24:58
Speaker 3: so what should if? Because sometimes I know when I
25:01
Speaker 3: had you guys on last year, I had a few
25:02
Speaker 3: tacks of the show. Afterwards, people said, well, I want
25:05
Speaker 3: to take my eight year old. Is it recommended for
25:07
Speaker 3: an eight year old? I always say it all depends
25:09
Speaker 3: on the eight year old. I mean, would you guys
25:11
Speaker 3: agree with that? Because not every kid nor any of
25:14
Speaker 3: all adults are the same. But what's a good rule
25:16
Speaker 3: of thumb on this? You know your kid, I guess right.
25:21
Speaker 11: I mean, for example, my daughters, they were acting and
25:24
Speaker 11: scary of you before they were eight. Okay, and they're
25:27
Speaker 11: sixteen and fourteen.
25:28
Speaker 13: Now both my kids grew up and they're twenty and
25:30
Speaker 13: twenty one. My daughter still participates.
25:33
Speaker 3: Well that's awesome.
25:34
Speaker 10: I mean, you know, we've had sixteen month olds to
25:38
Speaker 10: one hundred year olds do.
25:39
Speaker 3: It any Has there been any bad stories or anything
25:42
Speaker 3: that's happened. Anybody just said I can't take this and
25:44
Speaker 3: started like tearing down the walls and stuff.
25:46
Speaker 10: I mean, we've had the fibulators kicking, We've had people
25:50
Speaker 10: pass out, been taken out in ambulances.
25:52
Speaker 11: Loose control of BIY fluids.
25:53
Speaker 3: Well, that's always good, that's always good. That's what you
25:56
Speaker 3: always look bad. No, no thing these things are just
26:01
Speaker 3: so so. I mean, as we get closer to the
26:04
Speaker 3: Halloween season, guys, you're start seeing it on your on
26:06
Speaker 3: your Facebook feeds. People start saying, where's the haunted houses
26:09
Speaker 3: in this area, where's the haunted trails? And now it's
26:12
Speaker 3: just becomes such a big thing. As you alluded to, Jamie,
26:15
Speaker 3: it's now bigger than Christmas. So you got people that
26:18
Speaker 3: set out and I know people that have done this
26:20
Speaker 3: on the weekends. They pack up the car when they
26:22
Speaker 3: get off work on Friday and they hit every haunted
26:24
Speaker 3: house in you know, two or three state region. So
26:28
Speaker 3: what is it that set yours apart? Because you, guys
26:32
Speaker 3: think you got the best, and I'm sure everybody does,
26:34
Speaker 3: but you feel pretty calm. What is it that sets
26:36
Speaker 3: yours apart?
26:36
Speaker 4: Our staff?
26:37
Speaker 11: Okay, we have a really top notch staff that really
26:40
Speaker 11: puts one hundred and fifty percent into everything. And then
26:43
Speaker 11: the builders actually, you know, Jamie's the big minds behind
26:48
Speaker 11: most of it. Just the ideas that pop out from
26:52
Speaker 11: the members of this I mean members of our staff
26:54
Speaker 11: give us ideas. They might not be able to build it,
26:56
Speaker 11: but they'll throw in suggestions and we'll take a look
26:59
Speaker 11: at and see if it works, and then just the
27:02
Speaker 11: figuring out how to make things work. I mean, you'd
27:04
Speaker 11: be surprised some the stuff you can use the must
27:06
Speaker 11: people go why are you using that? And what's done
27:08
Speaker 11: and go, oh, that's why it looks pretty good. But yeah,
27:11
Speaker 11: that's that's the big thing to me is the staff
27:13
Speaker 11: and the builders is really what sets it apart.
27:17
Speaker 3: Talk about the support of the community, because I mean,
27:19
Speaker 3: you could have easily have done this one year and
27:21
Speaker 3: been a one and done, because there are events that
27:23
Speaker 3: people just don't come out for, or somebody has a
27:25
Speaker 3: bad experience and they you know, word of mouth gets
27:27
Speaker 3: out there, whatever. Talk about the support of the Saint Albans,
27:30
Speaker 3: not just Saint Albans, but this entire part of the state,
27:32
Speaker 3: because literally, i mean everybody comes out for this thing.
27:35
Speaker 3: Talk about the support of the community.
27:37
Speaker 10: It's been excellent, it's been great.
27:39
Speaker 13: I mean, you're going to have a few that say naysayers,
27:42
Speaker 13: but the rest of the part, we do anything that
27:44
Speaker 13: we can possible.
27:46
Speaker 10: If you bring your kid up and it's five years
27:48
Speaker 10: old and it don't want to go through and you've already.
27:50
Speaker 13: Paid, you get a little bit antsy about it, We'll
27:53
Speaker 13: let you go through, keep the kid over there.
27:56
Speaker 10: We'll talk the kid into going through. So we do
28:00
Speaker 10: turned lights on for kids and stuff. They everybody knows
28:03
Speaker 10: that about scare of you.
28:05
Speaker 3: Approximately, give me a ballpark figure how many people went
28:08
Speaker 3: through this last year?
28:10
Speaker 10: Seven hundred.
28:14
Speaker 11: Excuse probably much more than that. That was one night.
28:17
Speaker 10: I would say right around ten fifteen thousand something like that.
28:23
Speaker 10: I'm running there about ten more than ten.
28:25
Speaker 3: That's amazing. Well, I mean, you know, you say that nonchalantly,
28:28
Speaker 3: but that's pretty big.
28:29
Speaker 10: I mean to have that your weight time is going
28:31
Speaker 10: to be about two or three hours.
28:33
Speaker 11: Okay, but we will keep you entertained.
28:35
Speaker 10: What do you keep you entertained? We don't let you
28:37
Speaker 10: sit out there and get bored.
28:40
Speaker 3: How many people can go through this at one time
28:43
Speaker 3: a group of ten, So you take them in groups
28:45
Speaker 3: of ten.
28:46
Speaker 10: So if you've got to have at least four to
28:48
Speaker 10: five groups in the building at a time.
28:50
Speaker 3: So if somebody's bringing a large group of people, should
28:52
Speaker 3: they contact you ahead of time and say, hey, we've
28:54
Speaker 3: got twelve. You know, we're bringing a group up from
28:57
Speaker 3: from Rome County and we've got twelve.
28:59
Speaker 10: Is that something? Take care of that?
29:01
Speaker 3: What is the best way to reach you guys if
29:02
Speaker 3: you have information like your Facebook.
29:04
Speaker 13: We've got two different Facebook pages, one by the Fire Department,
29:07
Speaker 13: one by myself. One's scare View, one scare of your
29:09
Speaker 13: Groove School, our own individual characters.
29:13
Speaker 10: That we have on there. Any anyway like that, ntanger,
29:17
Speaker 10: text whatever.

34:50
Speaker 3: I'm going to find back from vacation.
34:51
Speaker 2: You know you are.
34:53
Speaker 8: Oh yeah, you had a good time.
34:54
Speaker 13: I did.
34:55
Speaker 3: I had a very good time for you.
34:56
Speaker 8: Everybody needs to take vacation well, and I'm away.
34:59
Speaker 3: And I it, you know, the week before Labor Day,
35:02
Speaker 3: and so I also got a bonus day.
35:04
Speaker 8: Yes, oh yeah.
35:05
Speaker 6: You know.
35:05
Speaker 8: I grew up in the generation and I'm guilty of
35:07
Speaker 8: it as well. Of you work. You work twenty four
35:10
Speaker 8: you know, twenty four hours, seven days a week. It's
35:12
Speaker 8: super not healthy.
35:14
Speaker 15: I got into that many many years ago, and I
35:17
Speaker 15: think it was just generational, right, that was just our
35:20
Speaker 15: age group because our parents did it. I mean, my
35:23
Speaker 15: dad always had always had two to three jobs period
35:27
Speaker 15: my whole life.
35:28
Speaker 8: I never knew him to not have two or three jobs.
35:31
Speaker 15: And my mom went back to schoolish game and teacher,
35:33
Speaker 15: and so I think it was just kind of the
35:35
Speaker 15: you know, you work, you work, and then you know,
35:37
Speaker 15: when you get older, then you can retire, but then
35:40
Speaker 15: you can't move.
35:41
Speaker 3: There was a time in my life that I did
35:43
Speaker 3: not take vacations at all.
35:45
Speaker 8: I know me too, and it's not healthy.
35:46
Speaker 3: And at some point I guess at middle well I'm
35:49
Speaker 3: well beyond middle age now, but at some point I
35:51
Speaker 3: just said, you know what, screw this. Yeah, well I'm
35:54
Speaker 3: going to start taking a little bit of time off
35:56
Speaker 3: here and there. And you know, I tried to make
35:57
Speaker 3: the problem with radio television, and then there are other
36:00
Speaker 3: careers like that too, is it. Well, it impacts ten
36:03
Speaker 3: other people when you take time off, you know, so
36:06
Speaker 3: it's not just about you not being there. You got
36:08
Speaker 3: to put this in place and that in place and whatever.
36:09
Speaker 3: And when I come back sometimes I think it I've
36:11
Speaker 3: never taken off again.
36:12
Speaker 8: But yeah, then you work out.
36:14
Speaker 15: But I will say this, you know. It's you know,
36:16
Speaker 15: people say, well, you know, do you work all the time. Well,
36:19
Speaker 15: we're city government. We have to work all the time.
36:21
Speaker 15: City services don't stop just because it's Thanksgiving. If it
36:26
Speaker 15: floods or you fall down, you know a flight of
36:28
Speaker 15: steps and need us to tend to your broken angle.
36:31
Speaker 15: We're common so those you know, those folks, And it is,
36:35
Speaker 15: you know, more more that we learn and more that
36:39
Speaker 15: our leadership has really embraced the philosophy of especially especially
36:44
Speaker 15: the folks who are our first responders. They need time off.
36:47
Speaker 15: They need time off, they need to take care of themselves.
36:50
Speaker 15: I'm a big believer in body mind connection. And you
36:53
Speaker 15: know how you feel in your body is also probably
36:55
Speaker 15: how you feel in your brain.
36:56
Speaker 3: And I want to get into something else. And we
37:00
Speaker 3: actually have a call away to night, and he got
37:01
Speaker 3: several takes, several takes as well. College football is back.
37:05
Speaker 3: Not a good saturday for the Mountaineers. It was a
37:08
Speaker 3: good saturday for the thundering hurts that was. And I'm
37:10
Speaker 3: going to allow you to be a proud mama for
37:13
Speaker 3: a moment. Good Saturday for the Marshall Band, of which
37:15
Speaker 3: one of the baby Boy good Ones is a part of.
37:17
Speaker 15: He is Yeah, he says to me all the time, Mom,
37:20
Speaker 15: Please stop saying I play the four drums.
37:23
Speaker 8: They're called quads.
37:24
Speaker 15: He's the kid that has the harness on and the
37:26
Speaker 15: four big drums in front of them with his hands flying.
37:29
Speaker 8: I will just say this.
37:30
Speaker 15: I won't I won't brag too much, although he's fabulous.
37:32
Speaker 15: I will say this about marsh University. Now'm a house divided.
37:34
Speaker 15: You know that WU and Marshall Brad Smith, what Brad
37:38
Speaker 15: Smith has done for marsh University. And oh, by the way,
37:41
Speaker 15: it's not just Brad Smith, but I do believe this.
37:44
Speaker 15: In leaders he hired Christian Spears, who has just done
37:48
Speaker 15: a phenomenal job. And then folks like doctor Schleder who
37:52
Speaker 15: runs the music department at Marshall University. The band has
37:56
Speaker 15: grown from one fifty to one eighty two. His goal
37:59
Speaker 15: was like two fifty for the band.
38:01
Speaker 8: And while my.
38:03
Speaker 15: Husband loves college football, loves loves us. He's not an
38:06
Speaker 15: you know, he's not a National league guy. He's more
38:08
Speaker 15: of a college college football watcher. He loves the football.
38:13
Speaker 8: I'm sorry, I love the band.
38:14
Speaker 15: You know, when they said, oh, you can't go back
38:16
Speaker 15: out side to tailgate, they won't give you the past
38:18
Speaker 15: to come back in, I'm like, I never go out anyways.
38:20
Speaker 15: I'm here to watch the band. And I wasn't a
38:23
Speaker 15: band kid. I was an athlete all through school. But
38:25
Speaker 15: I love the band because these kids work so incredibly
38:29
Speaker 15: hard and do so much to increase the fun at
38:34
Speaker 15: the at the football games and the shows. And it
38:37
Speaker 15: was wonderful because the halftime show at Marshall after the
38:40
Speaker 15: storms came through, they had high schools, different high schools
38:46
Speaker 15: come and you got to march on the big field
38:48
Speaker 15: with the big kids.
38:49
Speaker 8: And I think that's really really smart.
38:51
Speaker 3: And they also want to throw this out there before
38:53
Speaker 3: we move on the paint the Capitol City Green event
38:56
Speaker 3: up to Bill No Flight School a couple of we
38:58
Speaker 3: did a great job. Well, thank you. We had a
39:00
Speaker 3: good time with it. But having the band up there
39:02
Speaker 3: for that was it was. It was an added bonus
39:06
Speaker 3: this year. And that the event was sold out. I
39:07
Speaker 3: mean you couldn't got another person on the mountain. I
39:09
Speaker 3: don't think up there it was completely sold was really great.
39:11
Speaker 8: Well they're doing they're doing a great job.
39:13
Speaker 15: They really are doing a great job, and they're involving
39:15
Speaker 15: more more folks and we're pleased.
39:17
Speaker 8: We're really really really please. And plus I love Green.

39:37
Speaker 3: it's Jim.
39:38
Speaker 16: Jim, how the shoes be on their tray. I don't
39:45
Speaker 16: even have a monitor. Better, I picked a good.
39:47
Speaker 8: Day, Jim. How are you my honey.
39:51
Speaker 16: Well, I'm doing fairly well. Uh. I have left the
39:56
Speaker 16: nursing home with Sysville. I don't want anybody to pity
40:03
Speaker 16: me or anything like that, but I have no one
40:06
Speaker 16: to take care of me now. I kind of got
40:10
Speaker 16: through and under the bus a little bit. And but
40:13
Speaker 16: that's all right. I'm a Thurrogate nineteen Chesterfield at Charleston Nursing.
40:22
Speaker 16: Oh yeah, yeah, and this place is great. Yeah.
40:27
Speaker 15: You're on Chesterfield right, Chesterfield Avenue, Okay, yeah, I know
40:31
Speaker 15: where that is, right across from the old church.
40:33
Speaker 16: Right, So there's no excuse for Dave Allen.
40:36
Speaker 8: Yeah, maybe we should do the right show.
40:41
Speaker 3: I'll put Ryan in charge of that. Ryan Nichols and
40:43
Speaker 3: my producers in charge of that. Well, Jim, we're glad
40:45
Speaker 3: to hear from youbody. What else you got?
40:48
Speaker 16: Well, I wanted to let you know I'm going to
40:50
Speaker 16: be working on a project with ADS. We've had two tragedies.
40:58
Speaker 16: One students from middle school Boom County that passed away
41:06
Speaker 16: and I never did hear what the status was on
41:09
Speaker 16: the second one.
41:11
Speaker 3: There was a kid, you as a kid from Huntington
41:14
Speaker 3: Saint Joe Middle School. I think that was injured. I
41:16
Speaker 3: haven't heard an update on that either, Jim, But go ahead.
41:20
Speaker 16: I am going to work on a project. I don't
41:23
Speaker 16: want to give out any d kills right now because
41:28
Speaker 16: I might have coffeecats. But you know how hard I
41:32
Speaker 16: try to work in the mayor news and I would
41:35
Speaker 16: do anything, kill anybody.
41:38
Speaker 15: Well, you're a first responder. That's how you spent your career,
41:41
Speaker 15: and so listen. I think that having AEDs and all
41:47
Speaker 15: of our locations are incredibly important. Not only do we
41:50
Speaker 15: need to do that, Jim, we need to have stop
41:53
Speaker 15: the bleed kits. We need to have one boxes or
41:56
Speaker 15: a narcan also in our facilities. We need to be
42:00
Speaker 15: prepared when something bad happens. We hope it never does.
42:04
Speaker 15: But I tend to agree with you and counsel Woman
42:07
Speaker 15: Jeanine Favor and I worked last year to ensure that
42:12
Speaker 15: we had AEDs in our all of our facilities because
42:16
Speaker 15: we've got a lot of people that come in and
42:17
Speaker 15: out of our city buildings.
42:19
Speaker 8: And I hear what you're saying, thank you for that, Jim.
42:21
Speaker 3: Jim, I go ahead and wrap it up there, Jim.
42:25
Speaker 16: Okay, all right, So I will get back with you
42:28
Speaker 16: all days if you don't mind, And as soon as
42:31
Speaker 16: I get it all set up, I will give you
42:35

42:40
Speaker 16: that I want to help with.
42:41

42:56
Speaker 3: morning wv Metro News dot com about tourism in Charles.
42:59
Speaker 3: Scenario talked about this with a frequent guest of this show,
43:03
Speaker 3: You're a good friend to buy Tim Brady at the
43:04
Speaker 3: Charleston CVB, particularly sports tourism. It is it's simply huge.
43:09
Speaker 3: It's it.
43:10
Speaker 10: It's it.
43:11
Speaker 15: You know, it's a forty plus billion dollar industry that
43:16
Speaker 15: Charleston and the surrounding area is just starting to get
43:19
Speaker 15: a taste of that financial impact. And that's the reason
43:23
Speaker 15: why you know, we're taking a this isn't you know,
43:25
Speaker 15: licking your finger and putting it to the wind, which.
43:27
Speaker 8: Way is it going? We see it, We see it clearly.
43:30
Speaker 15: Even through the pandemic, even through inflationary times. It was
43:36
Speaker 15: a part of the growing economy across the country. And
43:41
Speaker 15: we're behind quite frankly, we're behind, as we are in
43:45
Speaker 15: some things, but we're quickly getting up there. You know,
43:47
Speaker 15: you don't have to look too far to our wonderful
43:50
Speaker 15: Mayor Chris Tatum in Barbersville, who's expanding Hurricane boy gee.
43:56

43:58

44:00
Speaker 8: Yeah, right, And so you know Dunbar shawnee.
44:03

Speaker 15: because guess why I believe this.
44:08
Speaker 8: I know Tim believes this. We all believe that. Secretary
44:10
Speaker 8: Ruby believes this. I know she does.
44:12
Speaker 15: I worked in in glove with her for years. A
44:14
Speaker 15: rising Dunbar, a rising South Charleston, arising anywhere outside of
44:22
Speaker 15: the city limits of Charleston. We're only thirty three square miles.
44:25
Speaker 15: People don't care. We talked about that a couple weeks.
44:27
Speaker 3: People people don't stop.
44:28
Speaker 8: At borders, so they don't care.
44:30
Speaker 3: They don't know if they need a hotel room, if
44:32
Speaker 3: they're in Charleston, they don't really notice. Well, this is
44:34
Speaker 3: in Thiss in Dunbar, this is in her account. I'm
44:36
Speaker 3: not going to say that that's right. One of the
44:37
Speaker 3: big events, Mayor, I want to mention before we go
44:39
Speaker 3: to break, it's going to be Friday. It'll be October
44:43
Speaker 3: twenty fifth, of the twenty seventh. And this was included
44:45
Speaker 3: in Cat's story. It's the USA Karate All American Classic.
44:48
Speaker 3: According to the story, around eight hundred kids are going
44:52
Speaker 3: to be coming in over that weekend October twenty fifth
44:54
Speaker 3: of the twenty seventh. Now eight hundred kids, and that
44:58
Speaker 3: average is what two to three people. That's all on average,
45:02
Speaker 3: that's a lot. That's a lot of butts in bedstats.
45:05
Speaker 8: That's right.
45:05
Speaker 15: And the keyword in that is USA. Right because you know,
45:10
Speaker 15: again I keep throwing her out there, because she noted
45:13
Speaker 15: this in her State of the Valley speech, is that
45:17
Speaker 15: we are on a national and international stage. Charleston is
45:21
Speaker 15: not just with USA Karate, not just with USA Cycling,
45:25
Speaker 15: not just USA Volleyball, us A table tennis. We are
45:29
Speaker 15: really bringing in some of these events that are not
45:33
Speaker 15: only good locally for us, but good for the state
45:36
Speaker 15: of West Virginia to put the state on such a
45:40
Speaker 15: positive national stage. You know, we talk all the time
45:43
Speaker 15: about return on investment. How much do we get back?
45:45
Speaker 15: Confusion on return on investment. That's not money I get
45:48
Speaker 15: in my pocket or the city coffers filling up. It
45:51
Speaker 15: does with increase. You know, we see increased revenue being
45:55
Speaker 15: spent in the city of Charleston on the backside, but
45:58
Speaker 15: we're talking about folks who own the local coffeehouses and
46:02
Speaker 15: the dress shops, and the hotels and the bars and restaurants.
46:06
Speaker 15: They are killing it. That's what mayors and county commissioners
46:10
Speaker 15: should be focusing focusing their time and attention on. And
46:14
Speaker 15: the most successful cities in the country do that, and
46:16
Speaker 15: we're lucky to be one of them.

48:37
Speaker 3: Today's visit WV metronews dot com. Mayor good One, this
48:40
Speaker 3: yere tech, says Mayor. In August twenty twenty two, Mayor
48:42
Speaker 3: good One called the changes in the judicial and criminal system,
48:45
Speaker 3: stating that the system allows repeat offenders back out onto
48:48
Speaker 3: our streets. What have you done in regard since these comments?
48:52
Speaker 3: And will you provide a list of the repeat offenders
48:54
Speaker 3: judges and prosecutors at issue?
48:57
Speaker 15: Well, you know, it was such a great, such a
49:00
Speaker 15: great opportunity to not only share that with the public,
49:03
Speaker 15: but also right thereafter judges and prosecutors reached out to
49:07
Speaker 15: me to say, how may we work better with you?
49:11
Speaker 15: And as a matter of fact, deb Rusnik, who is
49:14
Speaker 15: the prosecutor, just did a press conference on this two
49:18
Speaker 15: weeks ago, wanting to work hand in glove. The prosecutor's
49:22
Speaker 15: office office is plural across the area and especially in
49:27
Speaker 15: the county with all of our police departments.
49:30
Speaker 8: Listen, you have to have.
49:33
Speaker 15: Coordination and cooperation with judges and police police departments because
49:40
Speaker 15: you know, we can arrest somebody seventeen eighteen, nineteen, twenty times,
49:46
Speaker 15: but we have to work with the folks who are
49:48
Speaker 15: sentencing them or not. And they have guidelines, I mean,
49:51
Speaker 15: let me not you know, let me not diceive you.
49:53
Speaker 15: They also have rules that they have to follow as well.
49:55
Speaker 15: But it was really it was great to see this
49:58
Speaker 15: new prosecutor new she's been there a while, but she's
50:02
Speaker 15: doing a great job. And she said exactly these same
50:04
Speaker 15: things in a press conference with I think almost every
50:07
Speaker 15: chief or head.
50:09
Speaker 8: Of county law enforcement department standing behind her.
50:14
Speaker 3: I had her on the show, I think the day
50:15
Speaker 3: afterwards talk about everybody's favorite subject, paving.
50:19
Speaker 8: I love paving. I love it.
50:21
Speaker 3: We like to finish product, yeah.
50:23
Speaker 15: You know, you know, hopefully, and Mother Nature, boy, she's
50:25
Speaker 15: really being great to us this week. So paving has begun.
50:29
Speaker 15: We certainly hope to have it done by October. You know,
50:32
Speaker 15: sometimes we go into November, but October is the mark.
50:36
Speaker 15: We're paving thirteen point I don't know, thirteen and a
50:41
Speaker 15: half fourteen miles of road and these thirty three square miles,
50:44
Speaker 15: so it's a lot of paving. It's paving, it's concrete
50:49
Speaker 15: work as well. Some of our roads, not many are
50:51
Speaker 15: still concrete, so we work on that and also curb
50:54
Speaker 15: cuts as well. So we're doing paving, we're required to
50:56
Speaker 15: do those curb cuts, so you're going to see a
50:58
Speaker 15: lot of that. Thanks for being paid, Thanks for being kind.
51:01
Speaker 15: I talked to a great group of folks that live
51:04
Speaker 15: on Alexandria play something South Hills and they said, how
51:06
Speaker 15: come you're doing two roads that are buy ours and
51:08
Speaker 15: not ours. Well, we're getting ready to do some stormwater
51:11
Speaker 15: drain repairs and sometimes we have to rip up the
51:14
Speaker 15: road we're not gonna pave it, and then have to
51:16
Speaker 15: rip it up and repave it again. By the way,
51:18
Speaker 15: that happens. Sometimes we hate it when it happens because
51:21
Speaker 15: it's just a waste of money. But that is what
51:24
Speaker 15: we're focused on right now. Certainly paving is extremely important,
51:29
Speaker 15: and you know, really, Dave, these are the things that
51:32
Speaker 15: believe it or not, you know, we have city council tonight.
51:35
Speaker 15: Believe it or not, No reporter has called me about
51:37
Speaker 15: the two street sweepers that we're gonna buy, or the
51:40
Speaker 15: new light package that we're putting in the back of
51:42
Speaker 15: our police officers.
51:44
Speaker 8: You know, cars.
51:45
Speaker 15: These are the things that we work on every single day.
51:49
Speaker 15: This is you know, keeping the streets paved, keeping them clean,
51:53
Speaker 15: keeping our you know, police officers out and our firefighters with.
51:59
Speaker 8: The equipment that they need. They also have some things
52:02
Speaker 8: on the agenda.
52:03
Speaker 15: Tonight, so you know, refuse citations, making sure that they're up,
52:09
Speaker 15: and our team has the equipment that they need to
52:11
Speaker 15: make sure that people are following the rules. That's city
52:15
Speaker 15: government ninety nine percent of the time. It is not sexy,
52:18
Speaker 15: but it is the work that we do and the
52:20
Speaker 15: work that we love to do, and the seven hundred
52:23
Speaker 15: and forty plus employees that I get to work with
52:25
Speaker 15: every day. Those are the things that we that we
52:28
Speaker 15: work on. And it's funny, you know when we have
52:30
Speaker 15: a when people say, oh, there's not much on the
52:33
Speaker 15: you know agenda tonight. No, there's like eight things on
52:37
Speaker 15: the agenda tonight.
52:39
Speaker 8: It's critical work.
52:40
Speaker 15: It's a lot a lot of money that we're investing
52:43
Speaker 15: in our equipment and our own people, and it's important.
52:47
Speaker 3: It's important, Tex says Mayor Amy. Thank you for continuing
52:50
Speaker 3: to do a fine job.
52:51
Speaker 8: Oh thank you, dad, that's say how did you chach.
52:56
Speaker 4: That to the show?
52:56
Speaker 3: Why the show Mayor, I appreciate you being here. Thanks
