- Nate: Tonight on the North American Friends Movie Club. One dead pope. Two evil cardinals. About fifty in our sistine chapels. We watch the 2024 political thriller Conclave. Slip into your best vestments. And say a prayer to the God of good movies. Because we're the popes of podcasting. And this show is our rousing benediction. Dear Heavenly Father, please let our takes be hot, our mics be balanced, and our intros be over. Amen. Amen. This is what it sounds like when we do a podcast. We're currently doing one. This is the North American Friends Movie Club, and you might notice something about the name of our show. And that's Friends Comes Before Movie Club. Because it's simply more important to us. It's as important to us as the Lord is to the Pope. How about that? Amen. So I gotta ask my two little cardinals how are we doing? I look good in red. So I feel like I would be a cardinal if I was male and Catholic. Absolutely. I look I look like I'm about to have a heart attack when I wear red. I look all red and like swollen flushed. Yeah. I don't look good in red, so people will be scared. So you'll have to be Pope so you could wear white. I don't know how I look in white. Okay, so you'll stick with black and you'll just be a what's the Vatican janitor. The Vatican janitor. Don't like where this is going. Don't like it at all. You guys, I have so much to talk about. So I think we might tell us what's been happening. Yes. Yeah, what's been happening? Okay. The first thing I want to talk about is very important and I want everyone listening to listen up. Okay. ⁓ in Kansas City on August 23rd on a Sunday, I am offering an event. ⁓ And it's called the three-hour dive. As you guys know, I created a 90-day treatment for emotional abuse and neglect. And you know, not everybody has 90 days. Sometimes people only have three hours. And so I want to invite anyone who's listening to come to the three-hour dive, where I will be doing kind of a mini version of the 90-day dive. ⁓ and it's a hundred and fifty dollars, and included in that is some pretty intense ⁓ learning and therapeutic experience, ⁓ free beverages and snacks, and you get all your materials and you get to experience Kate from the podcast in real life. So I mean, it's a win win. Can I interject with the I have a couple questions? Yes. Beverage wise, what are we talking about? So I haven't decided yet, but certainly some delicious waters and I'm gonna offer some soda pops. And there is a really great coffee shop below the event space. So if you're like wanting a delicious coffee, also below is a gluten-free vegan bakery. And I'm gonna have really good snacks too. So I'm gonna have like charcuterie, I'm gonna have like delicious fruits, like this is. You guys, I'm doing it. So it's gonna be like good stuff. ⁓ second follow-up to that first follow-up. ⁓ may you offer some flavor enhancements for the water, some Mio, perhaps. You know what? I should have you know what? Yes. I'll get three different Meo and off that's a great idea, Brent. It really is. This is why we brainstorm stuff together, guys, because Brent's coming with the Meos. I would really love to see. I would love to meet anyone that listens ⁓ to this podcast that is interested in some of the depth psychology that I talk about. Cause that's really what it is. So it's like we have these symptoms, these issues, but really it's going into like why we think and behave the way they do we do. And it helps us clarify and have less suffering. And I'm just you guys know how passionate I am about it. So I just want to like invite people to come. And so the links to buy tickets are like in my biography. Anything that I share ⁓ publicly, you can find the link to. ⁓ or you could send an email to the North Amer to North American Friends Movie Club at gmail dot com and K we'll write back. Absolutely. Yes. ⁓ remind me to read the emails ⁓ segment as well. Okay, I will. ⁓ I I have a quick question again. Yes. ⁓ doing some quick math. A hundred and fifty dollars for the session, three hour dive. That's fifty dollars an hour. Yeah. Can you pay for s like the first and third hour and skip the second hour? Absolutely. Go to the bakery? No. Absolutely not. Okay. ⁓ you guys might have seen and I know you heard from me that I went on a trip to Florida. Okay. Just beautiful pictures. Just beautiful. You guys, As you know, I am meant to be by the waters. ⁓ can you refer to your trip as your return to the sea? Because I feel like that's appropriate. Thank you. My return to the sea. I I had this moment where I was like, I'm gonna move to Florida and I'm gonna turn this whole state progressive. I'm gonna That's Governor Kate. Exactly. She buys two different kinds of grapes and all of a sudden she's gonna turn the whole state around. Okay, that is one thing I want to do. Okay, so like the second day there, we had all this fruit and I was cutting up a pineapple and I had my bikini top on and Nick took took a photo of me and I was so proud of my brothers because I sent the picture of me cutting up fruit in a bikini top to Britt and Nate, and I made my joke, which is like a couple of melons with all the other fruit, which is a very funny joke. And I just want to ⁓ shout out to you both for being very respectful and not being gross and making me feel unsafe. So thank you for being a male brother friend to a female and letting local brother. I brought up grapes. okay, so we left on a Saturday. Everything fit perfectly in the car. Like we had all packed well. And I have a third row. I have a Kia Sorrento that has a third row. So we put half of it down. So one person was in the backpack. Two of the kids were in the middle and two were in the front. So everyone had room. It wasn't like we were packed in like sardines. ⁓ okay, so then we get to Memphis. We go to Beale Street. We take the children to Beale Street on a Saturday night. Thank God it wasn't dark out. Children should not be on Beale Street, but it was fine. We go to one of the few places that allows children to eat. So Sally O'Sul Sullio Sullivan's is this very well-known Irish place on Beale Street. Nick and I decide to get a large bucket of alcohol. ⁓ just cause, you know. Yep. All the kids were trying to guess how much we would drink before we felt buzzed. Nick and I drank the whole thing and never felt a single buzz. Yes. Yeah. Professionals. Well, no, I just don't think they put any freaking alcohol in it. You think it was mostly juice? They gave us 15 three foot long straws. I saw it was a lot of straws. Too many straws. Yeah. They were like they were like, we don't have any booze, just add extra straws. I was pissed about it. But this bucket was a game changer for when we were at the beach. for construction purposes. Exactly. So we get to the beach and we get one evening of good weather, and then surprise, tropical storm Bertha. So tropical storm Bertha, she was kicking. And we were like, ⁓ no, bad weather. But really, have you guys I know Brent? Brent's like, ⁓ my god, I'm a beach, and like I see sharks and whales everywhere and everything. All I said was nice grapes. I thought the grapes looked nice and I said they were nice. So what I do want to say about tropical storms is that the the ocean is normally calm, and then the storm makes it not calm. And The wind is weird. So I'm used to storms here in the Midwest. The wind is different. You got that ocean wind and it's coming. Swirling winds. Where are we? Yeah. You don't know where you're coming and going. Pick a direction. Wind. Circle. That's me every day trying to get to like working places. You don't know which way the winds sharks flying by wind. You don't sharp needle is a realistic possibility with this climate change. You don't know what's gonna happen. Being by the ocean. Nick is not a ⁓ jewelry guy. And then I took the kids one day shopping around and we decided to get Nick a shark's tooth necklace, which he ended up actually really liking and wore for a whole day. He was born for it. He was born for it, whether he likes it or not. It was very funny. I have a question for you guys. Do you remember being a kid? ⁓ because I don't remember never finishing drinks and children nowadays just don't ever finish drinks. And that really annoys me. Mm-hmm. You get a whole Coke out or you get a Gatorade out and you drink half of it. And then you leave it out and it gets warm. And then they're like, Where's my drink? Well it's right there. Well, I can't drink it, it's warm. Should have drank harder. Yep. Do you remember doing that as a child? Do you remember having a would never waste a soda as a child? I was so addicted to drinking soda that the thought of wasting a soda was is would would have disturbed me. Do you guys have juice bags? Remember juice bags? Like a sun? No. These were like just plastic bags. And they had juice in them. No. There were only squares. And then you drink you put a s like a straw in any way. There was no s dedicated straw hole. You just Jab the straw in, suck all the juice out. Then you blow air into the juice bag that's empty and it becomes full of air. And then you stick the straw out the other side. And then you have a full of air juice bag. And then you go like this and this, and then it expands and it looks like it has boobs. See, we need that. We need more of that. Yeah, I'd like to. To demonstrate that next week on the podcast, if you could. Now I've heard that that ⁓ Canada has milk bags. Is that true? This is a regional. This they don't we don't we don't fuck with this in Alberta. This has never been in Alberta. Don't cut my mouth like you're better. I'm just saying we're cartons and jugs. Cartons and jugs out here in the West. We yeah, I grew up you have to buy a a milk bag ⁓ container, and then you stick your milk bag in there, cut the corner off and pour from the bag. I need a photo of it. Will you send me a picture next time you go to the grocery store, please? Absolutely. Thank you. You used to buy the bunch of milk bags. So I'm a stepmom, like I've been saying, I've got two stepkids and I was like, and I we're all normal around each other, but I did catch myself, it was just me and Chi Cooper and Chase. And this is a quote from me. It's pretty to see plants we can't see in the Midwest. That's how I'm trying to bond with the teen boys. Yeah. Yeah. Listen. Focused on their interests, things that are important to them. The flora and fauna. A Florida. We were talking about flora and fauna, like the whole trip. Like you have your finger on the pulse of young menage boy. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ bought a carton of two percent milk, got to ride on that. Had my delicious snacks at night with my two percent milk that no one else was drinking. Hell no. And then the last night I get there and I still got like maybe a a fourth of it left and I'm like, let's go. There is nothing more comforting than chugging cold good milk. Hell yeah. There's so many more drinking comforting. No, there's a duvet ⁓ is more comforting. No. And that's what happened. And that's what happened. That's what happened. I don't I I don't have anything exciting like that. ⁓ I I'm back on my beef jerky bullshit, I call it. I'm making jerky again, dehydrators out. I made a fresh batch of Frank's Do you season it? ⁓ I yeah, marinated overnight in Frank's hot sauce. And soya sauce and liquid smoke. It's is it good? ⁓ it's delicious. It's really good. How much do you buy? How much meat do you buy? And then how much does it shrink down to? You have to buy an inside round roast. Gotta be inside around because that's the stuff that has the least amount of fat. Can't have any fat. Okay. I I had to buy new. What did I have to buy? I had to buy new shoes for the funeral. And I went on a little shopping spree for myself. Good. That's what Melissa said. She said, good. Because I don't I never buy stuff for myself. And I went, I bought a couple pairs of shorts. Short technology. It's evolved. I I was surprised at all the latest developments in clothes. We're in a good short age. That's cor I actually totally agree with you, Brent. Different lengths. Yeah. Yeah. different materials to make the waist a little stretchier than it used to be. Much, much stretchier material. I bought one pair of shorts that the whole waist was elastic. That makes me say now fucking. I'm wearing them right now, babies. I mean all my shorts, other than my jean shorts, have elastic waists. Now it made me sound like a toddler. No it doesn't. No, it does not. No, it doesn't. I It makes you sound like someone that doesn't buy clothes. They're like, did you know shorts have elastic waists? Did you know shoes have shoe strings? Yeah, bro. We knew. I th I bought and they all my shorts had the like the inseam length on them. I thought of Kate. ⁓ What else do You gotta show your games off. Did you get ones that are above the knee, hopefully? ⁓ yeah. ⁓ yeah. ⁓ ever since Kate said that like 10 years ago, I've been very conscious of where my shorts are lying. And I won't never make the mistake again. I would say sometimes I would send pictures. I was I want to send pictures of my shorts, but I feel like the pictures are too inappropriate. It's a lot of leg. It's a lot of leg to be sending your friends. Photo of my melons, and you guys were respectful. Yeah, we'd be chill about it. We would comment on the grapes. Or whatever. The Tynco. Whatever we see. Like is that a Tyneco hammer hitch? See poking out the bottom there? I will start sending the the short short picks ⁓ with my legs. ⁓ I bought another pair of navy blue shorts that are nice. Cool. Kate's looking at me like I'm a science project. No, I'm sorry. I want you to s talk closer into your microphone. Okay, my one sound. Do you sound far away or you don't sound as good? ⁓ that's better soul much better. I went okay, thank you. I ⁓ I bought shoes, but they're cool brown dress shoes. I'll send pics. They're brown, like brown leather dress shoes, but they have the white sole on top of this. Okay smooth criminal. I know. I I look good. all the sports casters wear them on like the NFL network and stuff. It's those shoes. That's how I describe them. I look really good in them. I want a full body length photo. I want you to get the whole good look on. Dams out, shoes on. Yes. Well, prepare you think you're cutting a fruit pitcher was something? Well, you just wait till the inboxes get flooded for you guys. Buckle up. So bought those shoes and I bought I've become a button down guy, summer shirt guy. And I'm doing this thing now where I'm forty four, but I'm leaving a couple buttons down. Please. I love it. Me too. Love it. The wind hits that just right. Mm-hmm. ⁓ Do you hear this, Nick? Nick, do you hear what they're saying? They look good, they're feeling good. Nick is embarrassed of his chest hair. Nick, first of all, Nick, stop. Holding out on the world. You're being greedy. You're being selfish. I would never say it. I don't think of you that way. I think of you actually as quite quite a selfless person. But in this case, I think you gotta stop being so fucking greedy and get those chest hairs out. Thank you. It's like if Michael Jordan refused to play basketball. He just wouldn't dunk. He's like, I will not dunk. Or Mary Hart refused to report on celebrities. That's exactly like that. What if Mary Hart kept all that information to herself? Imagine where we'd be. Exactly. So Nick. Throw the fuck up, Nick. and the last thing I have to talk about is I did make my triumphant return to the beach. ⁓ three years since my diagnosis of my life-altering foot condition. I br sucked it up. It took me much longer to walk from the card. In through the sand, but I made it. And Bullissa Bobby, a new Tommy Bahama beach chair. ⁓ good. It has four adjustable ⁓ levels of recline. Hell yeah. Reclination. Reclination. Reclination. It has a a little pot a pouch for my phone and the cup holder. I bet that cup holder's insulated. Thomas Bahamas would never Thomas Bahamas. I Nate, the very s this very first joke I made, I called it a Thomas Bahamas. Brother. We went through Ron John and I kept calling it Ronald Jonathan. Yeah, I like that. I like that a lot. I called it Thomas Bahamas and They make a fine product. It's and they have the straps like a school bag. I have a chair like I wonder if we have the same chair. I'll send you a picture of my beach pad. You can see it. You can see my Thomas Bahamas chair right there. Ready ready for baseball. Do you like Brent, other than the sand and the walking, do you like being by the sea? I'm I'm never I'm never more happy than when I have my feet plunked into the sand and I'm just watching ⁓ the ocean do what it does. I think you need to do it more often. Well, it's the pills that I'm on have made me not want to die. The pills have made me not want to die. So now I do more things. Okay, so this is positive. Yeah, this is good. Yeah, honestly. You bought brown shoes and short shorts. I mean he's having a heavy week. He's having a head. ⁓ but yeah, I love the beach. I had have my feet there, the water, ⁓ there was it's ⁓ Some problematic seagulls that were just fucking with me. They are a problematic creature. They are getting very, very comfortable in their own skin and aggressive. And Melissa thought I was being overdramatic at first, but then she's Yeah, they are really fucking with you. They were mocking me, they were laughing, and they were getting one seagull was like walking weird, and the other friends were like, No. They were circling three of them were circling me and they were obviously making the laughing sound and I knew they were making fun of me and they kept diving at me. And I had to say something. Yep. And the people next to me agreed that these this is bad behavior from seagulls. What did you say? Misbehaving seagulls. Did you say I said, What's to the seagulls? I I addressed them properly. I said, What is your problem, dude? Go away. Stop diving at me. I'm proud of you for standing up for yourself, Brandon. And then did they do that? Eventually, yeah. ⁓ th one found what looked like to be a piece of food, and he started flying way too far out into the water. I'm like, why is he doing that? And then I lost sight of him because he kind of was flying low and he kind of blended in with the the white wake of the ocean. Beautiful, really. Yeah. It's like a poem. Beautiful. Yeah, it's like Maybe he maybe he just disappeared. And that's what happened. It's time for don't forget your emails. ⁓ no. ⁓ yeah, let me do the emails. Let me get ⁓ it's the email segment. We got some emails. This is the email segment. ⁓ okay, first thing I have to do is send a picture to you guys. ⁓ no. And I'll talk about I'll talk about the picture in a minute because it does make sense. ⁓ first email is from Descent Within. I'm gonna be honest here. I'm only writing because I like to hear my name read on air. Peace, Ralph. So hello, Ralph. Go big Ralph. Go big or go home. Yep. next we have ⁓ an email from Aaron Wasserman. Hello, North American friends. I wanted to give a shout out to Kate, who is skating on the edge of greatness with her new question formats on the steel Magnolia Seven quiz. And I hope she continues to experiment with avant-garde quizzes. Love the show and look forward to every week. North American yours, Aaron. Thank you. Thank you for that support. I replied. I don't usually reply, but this kind of got me fired up. I said, I'm shutting that shit down as soon as I can. And he said, Good thing you got a cool new vacuum because she's gonna leave you in the dust. ⁓ yeah, he Got my ass, as ⁓ we like to say, and I didn't reply. also our last email is from this week's ⁓ quiz winner. longtime listener, first time divorcee. I don't know what that means. Not only as an ally to straight people, this is my favorite, not only as an ally to straight people, this is my favorite podcast. Couldn't really give a shit about the movies, but heavily invested in the friendship part of the podcast. JK, I'm honored to get to pick a movie and write this quiz since Catholic Twelve Angry Men. He and he crossed that out and wrote Conclave. Is fantastic and my choice for the best film of the year by far. But also because I remember you previously wondering why priests were allowed to smoke and these divas are vaping and ripping heaters left and right. They really are. Anyway. Truly enjoy what you guys do as some of the funniest people on my phone. Listening to you banter is both entertaining and uplifting, and seeing the notification for the new episode pop-up never fails to bring me a bit of joy. All the best from Germany, Philip. Germany. We're international. You can't throw a rock in downtown Germany. In Dusseldorf? Fucking. Without hitting someone. Yeah. Without hitting a member of the North American Friends Movie Club. ⁓ PS, in addition to the quiz, attached, you will find a doodle that I drew while watching of Danny McBride's face merged Brad Pitt's body from the beach photo shoot for Kate. Okay. Enjoy. This is amazing because I had this magazine picture of Brad Pitt on my wall in high school. And I love Danny McBride. So this is this gets me. I'm into it. It's really well done, too. Let's be honest. Like that does look like Danny McBride a hundred percent. Like you can look at that and pick out that's ⁓ obviously that's Brad Pitt's chest, but that looks like a lot like Dan McBride. He can get it. So thank you for the emails. Keep emailing at our email address. ⁓ what is it? North American Friends Movie Club at Gmail at Gmail, yep. No the North American Friends Movie Club at gmail dot com. if anybody has any love for Nate and I, it would be nice to read something positive about Nate or I, because Kate's getting all the love. She's getting pictures sent to her. ⁓ it's it's a lot for me to read. I get enough love from Brent and Kate, so you can focus all on Brent. I I'm good. I see what you did there. ⁓ I don't like it. I kind of worked it I did it in a way where you guys both got a compliment though, so I get away with it. I feel like I think Brent and Nate need compliments. So please send them compliments too. I think it's time for the weekly report. Let's do the weekly report. Week, week, week, week, week, week, week, week, week, weekly report. Weekly report. I ⁓ I got heavier weights. Ooh. I only had ⁓ my heaviest weight was 25 pound dumbbell. And now I have weights that you can adjust up to, I don't know, 35 pounds, something like that. The numbers are weird. I haven't counted. I put all the plates on, but I never counted what they are. One's like 5.2. You know what I'm saying? I did I'll figure out I'll figure out what it is. Weights are super expensive. They're very that's why I bought them because they were because they're usually so expensive. It was only $60 for all these weights for these new weights. And I was like, I I need them. I was getting kind of bored. It was too easy. That's you know what? It was too easy to lift my 25 pound weights. And I was getting bored. But as a result of doing my workouts with these new heavier weights, I have experienced this week arm harm. Back attack, chest unrest, and squat rot all at once. I am I'm sore, but my muscles are getting so big and strong. ⁓ you are so swole. my gains, I've I played so good at slow pitch. It was ⁓ I w I I gave myself the classification of Jeter. That's how good I was playing at shortstop. I said Jeter. That was a Jeter game right there. No mistakes, perfection, give me the World Series ring, let me kiss Mariah care. This is you see, you needed this after the whole mosquito basin flooding business. You were going through it. And every week baseball was canceled for like three weeks because of all this rain. And it still is stor it stormed like crazy all week here, still. Like it What are the mosquitoes like on the ball field? ⁓ merciless. But we were all ⁓ highly covered in DEET. We were all. We I think there was about six cans of DEET on the bench at baseball because everybody understood every everybody understands what's going on now. Yeah. Do you wanna do you wanna see my bicep? Yeah, I would love to. I've been working on my arms this summer. Okay, muscles. Rice. Okay, rice. Okay. Just think what'll happen if you start drinking milk, bro. Right? The gains. The gains? The pump? You'll scare Melissa. I just reflex it in the moonlight. By the way, you put an orange or an apple or something, you go like this and you crush it. Be like, put your mouth under my arm. Drink the juice. Drink the or drink the juice. It's it okay, it's slowly getting toward. ⁓ let's look at the other one. I was worried that one was gonna be smaller, but it's not. No there's some symmetry going on here. Yeah. ⁓ Kate, sorry. I hijacked there with the concept. You know what? I was it was a treat for both me and Kate. So I'm glad you did it. Treat for the eyes. I've been doing my four D's, of course, lifting to weights, the heavier weights. I've been dancing. I've been drinking the dairy. And I also have been reading the Dostoevsky. I read it so much that it's no longer Dostoevsky. It's Dostoevsky. I finished the Dostoevsky book. Let's go. Let's ooh. It was It couldn't have been sadder. It couldn't have been more a more depressing end. I don't know if I want to spoil it. okay, I'm gonna spoil if you're worried about getting the idiot by Dostoevsky from ⁓ the 19th century spoiled. This is your warning to skip ahead 30 seconds. ⁓ Prince Mishkin agrees to marry Natasha Philippova. He leaves his other girlfriend to to marry Nat Natasha Philipova because he feels so bad for the pathetic wretch. She runs away on their wedding day with another man. That man murders her. And then Prince Mission goes so crazy because he has to stay in the room with her dead body for a whole night that he has to go back to Switzerland to the epilepsy clinic. And that is where the book ends. Thank you, Dostoevsky, for your uplifting content. Sad. ⁓ But I I'm I have added another D. I'm reading Dante's the divine comedy. So I so the four D's are still read for a whole hour. I still am not out of the ⁓ introduction of this book. It's gonna take it's gonna take me a while. ⁓ I might follow up and read that. Deep. You're reading deep stuff. I'm excited, actually. ⁓ the introduction made it seem very interesting. He's an itch this guy is Dante, he's an interesting fellow, and I it it's much Thicker than the Dodoevsky. But it's written in the poem style where it's like line like those like shorter lines and bigger font. I'm like, this is like a dream now because I've been reading such small font and every page is just words, words, words, words. Dits, ditce, no space, no room. This is like, hey, this is a stroll. Let's let's go like Couple words here, couple words there. Page is over. We're ready for the next one. But that's not Dante's Inferno. Inferno's the first part of the divine comedy. So this has Inferno Paradiseo is the third one. I don't know what the middle one is. Probably Purgatorio or something like that. Okay, so the ⁓ Dan Brown book I read is ba all the stuff was based on what you were going to read. So if you want something lighter, you could do the D of Dan Brown. ⁓ Dan Brown. I I am I am gonna keep this bit going as long as possible because one of my goals is like part of the reason I've been reading so much is because I want to read every book that I haven't read that I own before I buy even one new single book. So this is such a fun way where I'm like, I'm just going through all the D's right now. I've got some Joan Diddy in lined up. Like we're gonna just I'm just gonna work my way progressing. Yeah, work my way through the D's over the next year or so. What Dan Brown book are you talking about, Case? Dan Brown, Dante's Inferno. That's called Inferno. It's called Inferno. Yeah, okay. ⁓ okay. And that's it. That's No, go ahead, pardon. That's it. That's the weekly report. I have a thing I want to talk about that I forgot in my segment. I've been big into watching while I work out is watching jail stuff on Netflix. I watched the The the the one the documentary where that they open up the cells for the inmates. Yeah. And and just let them hang out and try to build their own community. I watched that. And I watch I'm watching Inside the World's Toughest Prisons with Rome Raphael, whatever. Prisoners have bad attitudes, and I don't like it. Especially American prisoners. Everything is just they're on they're very confrontational. Antisocial bunch. Yeah. I don't like it. It's like, hey, we're like the littlest thing, and they're you know what? I'm just gonna well, that's it for me. I'm done. I'm gonna fucking kill ⁓ I'm like, just it's fine. Just relax. It's like, chill out. Just like chill out. Yeah. This is how you got here in the first place. Is overreacting. Take a fucking second. Take a break. Know what they need in prison? I know what they need. I thought you were gonna say the three hour dive. I would thought they were ⁓ they mean the nine year dive. Yeah. Well They do, and you can get tickets ⁓ on Kate socials if you are getting released ⁓ from prison. But I think prisoners overall need to have a better attitude. I agree. I agree. That's a three-way agreement. Prisoners shape up or ship out. ⁓ speaking of shipping out, ⁓ one of our movies, The Pope Shipped Out of Life. That's correct. And it's the audience choice, ⁓ This weekend we picked the clay or the conclave from Philip from Germany and to tell us about Conclave. Kate, please. Yes. I will tell you about the film Conclave. It is about a Pope dying and what happens after the Pope dies. So all the cardinals get together to have a conclave, which is a closed ⁓ meeting where they don't talk to anybody and they have to vote on who is gonna be pope next. And so the main characters are a United States guy, Bellini, and a Nigerian guy, Edamame, but that's how do you that's not Edamame, but Ediame. And then a guy from Canada, Tremblay, and then a guy from Italy, Tedesco. And so it's kind of like the inner workings like politically of because there's like conservative Catholics and more progressive Catholics. And the main guy is leading the conclave and that's ⁓ Cardinal Lawrence, ⁓ who's played by Ralph Fines. Ralph Fines, thank you. Long story short, all of the guys that wanted to be Pope were just like not the right guys. They'd either had a baby at a wedlock or they had bought votes and like promise political stuff to each other. And then there was this new cardinal that the Pope had made a cardinal in secret from Kabul, but they were Mexican. And so at the so during the conclave, there is a terrorist attack and the Sistine Chapel is bombed. And They all meet in this auditorium afterward. And one of the main guys who wants to be Pope is like, we need to go to a holy war with the Muslims and da-da-da-da. And Benita's Cardinal Benita's the one that's Mexican from Kabul, Afghanistan, is like, I've been around war. This is not, you're being political. This is more spiritual. You guys aren't understanding the love of Christ, yada yada, yada. And so then everybody Elects this Christ-like Kabul ⁓ cardinal. And then we come to find out that the Pope that they elected was born with female body parts. And we find that out, and Cardinal Lawrence doesn't do anything about it because who cares? And The Pope is Pope Innocent. So Benitez becomes the Pope and ⁓ pretty pretty cool pretty cool story. That's conclave. Nailed it. Nailed it, yeah. Let's talk about our favorite parts. Let's talk about our favorite parts. ⁓ this is a good movie. I enjoy this movie because it's of the the the whole religion thing and there's there's there listen, there's n no on earth there's the messiest divas in the world are in the vague. Easily the costumes, the gold, the the interior decoration, the artwork, the smoking the pop and circus yelling at nuns. Let hey, but no one's allowed in the dead Pope's room. Let's put a lock on it. No. Let's wrap a ribbon around it and seal it with wax. So cool. Like let's let's hide little secrets inside things. So many secrets. Hey, the Pope's dead. Take his ring and beat it with a hammer. Okay, sure. Why? Don't know. It's like the minute that ring thing happens, I know I'm in the right place where I'm like They got a special machine for the Pope's ring. They put this little someone came there like the Pope's daddy's like, shit, I gotta grab the ring changing machine. Gotta take the ring changing machine to the Pope's room so we can change the Pope's ring in a special little machine. I'm like, gears, cogs, Catholicism. This movie isn't good. This movie is great. The gears and cogs of that smoke machine when they burn the votes and they have to put in the colored smoke. I'm like, this is This is fucking high tech for Nate's picture being the guy that gets to press the button. Like we didn't get a new Pope yet. Do anything to press that button. I know. I know. They listen, I could see Nate taking a vow for the priesthood just to be able to work his way up to that position. Yeah. Press the button. Lying so hard that I become a cardinal and I get to push the button. Just sneaking out on the weekends out of the the Vatican screwing, doing drugs, drinking, smoking on the weekends and coming back in on Monday and being a priest again. That's what just press the button. Well, I think and I think that's really what it helps you understand that like n even when you're in these huge positions of spiritual power, you're still just a man. You're still just a person. You know, there's I love the human the humanness of it all is is like There's something so appealing about that that because I think we all like to see that, like when people in authority are per portrayed as like somehow above us all, that it's there's something very enjoyable about seeing, like, ⁓ they're just pity little humans. They're just little John Lithgows stealing votes and lying and trying to become Pope. Everything listen, everything is so corrupt. It's ridiculous. It's and I love how ⁓ Cardinal Lawrence a Accuses him of simony. And I had to look up Simony. And simony is the sin of buying or selling church offices, sacred roles, or spiritual things. Which is like ⁓ I'd yeah, I would be selling investments all the time. No. ⁓ what is sacred? Nothing is. They look so comfortable. It looks so comfortable. Well, he's like selling ⁓ like church offices and selling like so the Catholic Church used to sell ⁓ forgiveness of sins. Back in the before the Reformation, I think, or I don't know history, but you could just buy going to heaven. Give ⁓ some cash. That's how do you think they got all those robes and paintings and golden c crucifixes and like even the thing that they put the votes in? They like they got a big circle with a gold plate on top of it, and then like, wow, look at that vote catching reception. And you know that paper was really good paper too. Like special ass paper. I would be spelling I'd like you'd have to have a little cheat sheet for the names because I would spell names wrong. It would be really hard. He I he even has to ask. He's like, How do you say this guy's name? I would be I would want to be the guy with the big knitting needle and the thread that puts the hole in the vote. That's a fun job. Yeah, the classic Catholic vote sewer. I love a ritual. I think that's what people who are agnostic and atheists throw the baby out with the bathwater. Like ritual is so important, even when it's not related to religion. I we had to join the Knights of Columbus to to use their space as a band practice thing when I was a teenager. Okay. And and they made us we had to beg we had to do a ritual, a blindfold ritual, and we were sworn to secrecy. Yeah. About what could what what happened in this ritual. And the five of us that did it we all we were gonna go to the grave and not go to the grave. Yeah. I don't know why. You joined a fraternity. That's the I joined a sorority. It's the same thing. I the minute the blindfold went on, I like said, What the fuck are we doing, boys? Yeah. And they're like, Well, we're killing ghosts. We gotta do it. We we have to go through with it. It's a long way to If you wanna practice. If you wanna rock and roll. My my ritual that I had to do to join my sorority had to there was a knife. There was a knife involved. We had some weapons. There was some weaponry involved. I I really love the like anything that's, you know, thousands of years old that we have continued, I I find great appeal in observing it. Just being like, it's I could have watched them do Catholic stuff for hours. Just like, here's how we do, here's how we seal the door. Like, sure. Let's see it. Let me see that. How you seal the door? Yeah. And let's be honest, the whole conclave can be done online. Like we didn't need a we didn't need these guys coming in and doing the whole process. It seemed a little loosey-goosey. Like Growl Finds was getting a lot of information from the outside for someone who's supposed to be sequestered. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, it was it had it was tainted from the get-go, the whole thing. This is my the my biggest complaint with this movie is there was too many incidents that happened. pro a pope dying in conclave is dramatic enough. Okay, maybe this is we got a little inside corruption. That's a good story. That's a good lie. That could carry w the we didn't need the terrorist attacks and we didn't need the the new pope to be intersex. It's just I loved it all. I loved it all. It was like the most dramatic dramatic conclave ever. Like I'm sure there's there's like then the next conclave is gonna seem boring as hell. It's like, ⁓ this is not great. Nothing happens. I wonder what it was like this past time where they've elected an American. Like that was kind of a really big deal. I like this new Pope. I'm pro I'm I'm a big supporter. He hasn't fucked up yet. Listen, I'm not giving him unlimited. He he could fuck it up. But right now, every time I hear the Pope, he's like let's kill the robots and share with each other. I'm like, this Pope's making some points, man. Making some sense, yes. This Pope's last time I saw him he was he was earned sneakers, so I'm a big fan. ⁓ Sister Agnes was one of the main ladies. She was the main housekeeper and who'sy what's he. ⁓ Isabella Rossolini. And I love her. I as an actress, she's just wonderful. ⁓ I couldn't I don't think I could be a nun because you're just always. You love kissing too. Well, I mean, not even talking about that. Yeah. I mean, ⁓ my God. ⁓ Your your hair's too sassy to be a nun. Well, and it's just you're always having to be so deferential. Like just in general, I'm not gonna do well with having to be deferential because it's obligatory. Right. It's obligatory. No thanks. I don't know I don't know why I thought priests and cardinals and religious people couldn't smoke. But they're drinking. They're smoking. Catholics are big drinkers. I didn't know you could do that. Be listen. I don't know if these guys are regular priests of what you have to do to become cardinal, but it's not a bad gig, in my opinion. I if things go south here, I may become a cardinal. I have been to many Catholic fundraisers, and there's an insane amount of drinking and smoking. I I think I like the idea that like cat Catholicism, a lot of it is about like the vow of poverty. So most like most like Catholic priests live like a very very simple life where they have like they're very plain clothes and they wear the same and I like how in the Catholic Church if you get it's like you you get like buffs er at every level. You get like ⁓ okay you're a cardinal now you get like the new fit ⁓ a charisma goes up by twenty points but then if you get to be the Pope you get like you get a fucking like golden vest and a hat and a cross to defend yourself. Like it's like you work your way up. You get you could get pretty high. You can get pretty good at that. Absolutely. You get buffs. Good swag. Good buffs. Your vape can match your vestment. That's good buff. Tedesco. You have different vapes for different vestments. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. For people that didn't see this movie, there's a a cardle named Tedesco, who's kind of like a Donald Trump figure, ⁓ MAGA of the Popes, we would say. And he vapes the entire movie. And he's even vaping during like the voting process. He's got that he's Blowing clouds all over Cardinal Tremblay. He's just fucking Yeah, he's very close to doing tricks, like doing the O and then pushing it with his hands. He should learn how to do a cross. That's good. That's how he blesses people. Like Gandalf? Yeah. Baptizing a baby instead of dipping in the water, he just blows a big football crucifix. Crucifix. Yeah. ⁓ you guys want to see a miracle? I don't know. He's just adding yeah, water to wine or water. Yeah, you just add red meal. the ⁓ body bags, if when the Pope died they put it I listen, I'm gonna specifically say to people that are around me my deathbed, don't put a cloth over my face when I die. Why? I don't like that they do. I discussed I it seems scary to me. Cause you can't like it. But you'll be dead. I did want to ask, like I I found this disrespectful though. I found the gurney sound effects to be like very loud when they threw his corpse on ⁓ the Pope's corpse onto the gurney. It was like someone was doing some foley work, and then so I had the question. I was like, Brent, is that is that accurate gurney bumping and squishing? Yeah. Yep. They they were like i everything was so ⁓ ceremonial with the the ring and the dressing of the body and then th the all the the Vatican parameters came in and they fucking Charlie Kirk this guy. They were fucking they were picking him up by his jeans and just chucked him on the gurney and there was no there was no like respect in the body. They just they were he was jangling. And he got on that journey and they they buckled him in like he was fucking on a roller coaster. They have to do that. They do that with every dead body though. Because they'll flop over and they'll I thought that was there was something about that that was like it was like a great filmmaking because it's like all that ceremony, it's the Pope, it's like God's favorite angel. And then Just for like 20 seconds, you just watch his body like shake as the ambulance drives away. Like it's just a human dead body. It's like it's it's empty. I I just figured there'd be more respect for the dead pope and they'd have a better process, but no, that he was jangling around. They jangling like keychain. ⁓ once they take the top of that ring off, you're just a dude. They take the ring off the finger. Yeah, exactly. You're a vessel. You're I but I always I always when they put him in the the holy elevator ⁓ in the body bag, I expected ⁓ I thought it would be cool if the it opened up and he was still alive. And I'm like, okay, we have a good caper movie on our hands. Do you know what I was really glad about the first time I watched this movie? Is that it's not a murder mystery about who murdered the Pope. Yeah. That's where I thought it was going. Yeah. It's more f it's more fun than that. It's more interesting than that. We've seen that so many times, and like that that'd be cool. Like, I like mysteries, I like murder mysteries and detectives, but it's way more fun to be like, this is about very human desire. That's what this whole movie is about. Not yeah. And like trickery and stuff. It's so and like denying it's like Tucci's character in this movie is so interesting. How he's like pretends like he doesn't want to be the Pope. But he secretly does, and then he gets kind of like jealous of Ralph Fines getting more attention than him and like accusatory. And then later he's like, I need to just search within my own heart. Like it's just it it's a great, it's great. ⁓ I just have a couple quick notes before we get to quiz. Adamame, I see you got me calling Adamame. Adamame called Cardinal Tremblay Judas. You get called Judas inside the Vatican, that hits different. That's the that's the ultimate Judas. Bro. two th two things. ⁓ we always p people all, especially Mexico, see the face of Jesus on buildings and stigmata. ⁓ people in Mexico crying blood. A lot of Mexico. A lot of Mexico. Yeah, I think Mexico's seeing more Jesus's. I agree with Brett. I you know, I know he's walking a line here, but I agree. There's more Jesus spottings in Mexico. Anybody from Mexico from the That listens to the show, please email and confirm that I'm correct. ⁓ but no well, we never see ⁓ we never see a winking Jesus. We always see a crying Jesus, but never one that winks at you. Never Jesus is having any fun. Yeah, like a ⁓ like a mischievous Jesus, like a hey Jesus, good to see you there. Guess who's back and my last ⁓ my my last ⁓ note and probably my best note, my best take I had about this whole thing is. ⁓ it's a little cheat sheet, ⁓ a little fast track way to win conclave is you address the the the other cardinals and say, Jesus and the Lord came to me in a dream last night and said that I should be the next Pope. Yeah. I think you're underestimating these cardinals. I think they've that's not the first time someone's told them about a dream. You know. Just say if you wanna follow God's word, then you have to vote for me. If not, you are a Judas. It's not a bad tactic, but I I think I'm giving these guys a little bit more respect. Like if they were playing Civ Six, they're playing on Deity, so you can't be trying that bullshit with them. Do you know who had the winking Jesus? Was Dogma. In Dogma, they had the pointing winking Jesus. Dogma was fun. I would I would watch Dogma. I bet we will. So. ⁓ okay. Well, I think it's time to do Phillips quiz. Are we ready? I'm ready. I'm gonna get a soda. This is I don't know if he named it. ⁓ he did. He called it the Pope Fiction 10. That's very good. That's funny. Yeah. Okay, are we ready? Yes. So ready. ⁓ so I'm taking the the the role of Philip. ⁓ if you guys every incorrect answer is a point for me and Philip. Yep. Skull caps of different colors are worn by several types of clerics in the Catholic Church. Scarlet being reserved for cardinals. Which one of these is not an appropriate name for this kind of hat? But is rather a type of pasta. And a big a big F you to Philip, because these are difficult to pronounce words. Yeah, this is gonna be funny. Pileolois? Pileolus. Pileolus. That's their first one. Zuccetto? Malloretis. Caloti. Damn. Damn. So one of them is a pasta and the others are the name of the hat. Correct. Yeah, I don't think I don't think I I I pronounced one of them correctly, but you did your best. Nate's first. C. A. Mallaretis is C is a mallard herring. It is pasta in the shape of short ribbed shells. Congratulations, Nate. You are up one nothing. What is the official what is the official title of Cardinal Lawrence's function in the Courier in the Kur Curea? ⁓ Dean of the College of Cardinals, Perfect of the Dicastri for Bishops, Master of Papal Liturgical Celebrations, Carmelengo of the Holy Roman Church. Mine, it's my turn. He is the dean. Yeah, he's the dean. That's a little tip is you're correct. A little tip, Kate pretended like you don't know the answer. I won't do that. I'm ⁓ I'm just I'm not gonna do that. Pope innocent. Listen, Philip, this is probably this is probably the best quiz ever concocted for the show and that I've ever had the the pleasure of hosting, but the the words Lots of big words, lots of big words for me. ⁓ question number three. The galled fluorescent lighting of the Cardinals' lodgings in Casa Santa Maria, Santa Marta is both essential to the film's tone and color scheme, as well as an appropriate representation of my experience with various Catholic institutions. What floor were the d decreased Pope's chambers on? Deceased Pope's chambers on What yeah, what floor did he die on? The fifth, sixth, seventh, or eighth floor? Nate. Hmm. I think it's gonna be the highest floor, but there's no reason to believe that eight is the highest floor. There could be it it could the building could end at six. So I'm gonna say it's a six floor building. He lives in the penthouse, the Pope House. And I'm just gonna say seven because it's my favorite number. Well, Nate, I liked your reasoning. Eighth floor. He died in the highest floor up, ⁓ closest to God, makes sense to me. Less of a trip when you die. So eight. Brent gets a point. Yeah. Gone forever. Number four. Part of the movie was filmed at the monumental stairwell of the royal palace of Caserta near Naples. What other film was it prominently featured in? Shakespeare in Love, The Italian Job. Star Wars Episode One, The Royal Palace of Feed on Nabu. Ever after a Cinderella story. I'm gonna I'm gonna say the Italian job. Well, I know I certainly know it's not Naboo because that was filmed on blue screen, one of the first ⁓ films to really integrate that technology. Digital filming, George Lucas, one of our brilliant minds. So I'm I'm crossing that one right off the list. They they weren't on location for Boss Nass. ⁓ I'm gonna guess ever after a Cinderella story. Well, in the history of the quizzes has no club member shown their ass more than Nate on that question. Star Wars episode one of the No way. Gone forever. You took such a hearse. I kept on wanting to say, Nate, stop talking about this. You're making it worse. You're making it worse. ⁓ ⁓ number five. That's a point for me and Philip. ⁓ excluding the one time after the election, how often does Lawrence break protocol by receiving hot goss from his bestie, Monsignor Raven Del Mally? So how many times? Nate, you talked about this before. Is it three, four, five, or six times? He broke protocol how many times? Nate first. Four. Four times. Or You got ⁓ a lot of hot goss five times from protocol. Crap, that they were bro, you call that a conclave? Gone forever. I know. I know. We are getting smoked. Yep. What's the score? Three for the quizmasters, two for Nate, one for Kate. ⁓ yeah, there's still five questions to go though. So let's go. Lots of time, lots of time. Yeah. ⁓ keeping with the theme, you still have a prayer. When Cardinal Lawrence pulls a Regina George and photocopies his report to distribute to the other members of the Curia, what is the error message? This is just a great quiz. That's a great great question. ⁓ there's only three options. Is it a paper misfee trade two, sending error error, or ink depleted? What was the second one? Sending error. ⁓ I'm gonna say sending error. It was sending error. Fuck. Congratulations, Nates. ⁓ seven. Last month I dreamt of being tasked with navigating a theme park whose attractions turned out to be deadly. Diffuse the bomb type traps, but opting out and having some French fries with my fri friends instead. What do you think that dream meant? And more importantly, how many cardinals were seen kneeling at the deathbed of the deceased Pope at the beginning of the movie? Yeah, you got he kinda got your ass, Kate. He got me. So the question is how many were kneeling at the deathbed of the deceased pope? Two, three, four, five, eight. Four. Three. It was Adayami, Lawrence, Tromblay, and Bellini for Nate. Congratulations. How many sentences in this movie with a runtime of 120 minutes were spoken by women? Fourteen, twenty two, thirty, thirty-eight. Twenty-two. Fourteen. Congratulations, Kate. It's twenty-two. All of them by Isabella Rossellini, which earned her a highly deserved Oscar nomination. What is the name of the offense committed by the Canadian Cardinal Tromblay? Usury, simony, contumasy, sabism, sabeliniism. Kate reminded us that it's Simony. It's Simony. Very good. Very good. It's Simony. Question number ten. True or false? Any baptized Catholic male is eligible to be Pope. True? False. Correct answer is true. But the last time a non cardinal was elected is in thirteen seventy eight. ⁓ Congratulations, Nate. Would you like to get compliments or would you like to get sung to? ⁓ I'd like the compliments, please. Thanks. Nate, I am often impressed by your diligence and ⁓ discipline because you have the spirit of a free bird, but the discipline of ⁓ A religious order. Like I think there's like a I think there's a religious order somewhere in the world that you would really thrive in. Rasta. And I think that's a cool, that's a cool balance you have. Goose great compliment. Thank you. Nate, every time someone tells me, ⁓ Brent, you're so funny, I said, if the funniest person in the world to me is Nate, and that's truth. You have a way of Writing one sentence and it creates an entire scene for me and picture and character development all within eight words, and I think that is the hardest thing to do in comedy, and you are the best at it. What a guy. What a compliment. What a day. I love this. I feel great. Good job, Nate. I feel great. I'm gonna pump iron on Nate is great. Yes. Nate's great. There's a reason why it rhymes. Well, I give you guys ⁓ Ten out of ten no, I give you guys a gold medal for your performance on this quiz. Would you guys like to give out some medals for the cast of this film? Yes. Sure would. Medal. my bronze medal is going to ⁓ my god. ⁓ Sergio Casalito, who played Cardinal Joffrey Tedesco, the vaping priest. He ⁓ had that look about him. He just he just looked like a bad guy, and he wanted to go back to the old days of the Christianity. ⁓ he wasn't a big fan of foreign people and he did it all in English, she did it Italian, he did it in Latin. Bronze medal. My ⁓ bronze medal is going to Carlos Dietz, the Cardinal Benitez, who becomes the Pope. ⁓ just like a very calm spirit. I thought that was such a poply ⁓ had pope energy. Yeah. I think he was the best pick. I think he was the best choice for Pope. Well cast. Also, they he is an architect as well as an actor. Talented. And he looks a lot like Paul Stanley from KISS. A little bit, sure. I could see that. I'm gonna give my bronze to Lithgow. I'm giving it to Lithgow. We've this is ⁓ surprisingly the first time I think that we've seen Lithgow on the movie club, 160 movies. We've seen Rossellini, you know, we've seen Ralph Fines. I think this is the first time we've seen Lithgow. And I've loved Lithgow since Third Rock from the Sun. I just think he's great. I think he's a great actor. And so this is a career designation award trombett bronze medal. I don't know. I'm my heart my my my brain says give it to Isabella Rossalini to be an ally, but my heart is giving it to Lucia. Moss Mati, who played Automame. ⁓ he was the front runner. after a couple rounds, to be priest looked like or to be bope. ⁓ it looked like it was in the bag, and then a lady showed up because of Cardinal Tremblay and blew it for him. I don't know why I'm recapping the movie. I don't know. I got lost there. I got lost in the sauce. He did excellent his scene with ⁓ Ralph Eines where he begged to be Not to be turned in that was intense. Yep. Silver. Yeah, my silver goes to Isabella Rossellini because she's just like lovely and beautiful and a great actress and like a good person and she just gets all the awards. Mm-hmm. So funny on 30 Rock. Just a just a queen. She's in Marcel the Shell. Remember that? ⁓ that's right. I'm giving mine to the Tooch. I love Stanley Tucci. I think he's just a f an interesting fellow. I think ⁓ ⁓ he's got a non normal, no, what's like like non conforming masculinity. I think of him as very masculine, but not in the like machismo way. ⁓ and I think he was great in this movie. He did he played like a man who's conflicted about how much power he wants quite well. So I I gave it to the Tooch. My gold medal goes to Ralph. Do you know that his middle name is more than? What? His middle name is more than. What? Yeah. If it's not, it should be, because he's more than fine. There you go. He's excellent. He's great. More like Ralph Grace. More like Ralph Grace. ⁓ he just he acted. I've never seen a man, I've never seen an actor be able to carry the effect of having so much on your mind and hurt than he did. It his face the entire movie. You could just tell he was struggling with everything. I don't know if he got an Oscar for this, but he deserved one gold medal. Yeah, he he gets mine too. I mean he just did a great job. He's good in everything and he can play creepy, but he wasn't creepy at all in this. I don't know. He's just a great actor. He's a chameleon kind of. Yeah, he acted his whole off. ⁓ acted his whole off. He absolutely did. He, of course, gets my gold medal as well. He's it's Voldemort. This man can play the priestly priest or Voldemort. He's got both of those things in the under his belt, which is and he's also in this movie that I watched, I think it's twenty-eight years later. ⁓ the Bone Temple. So good. Dude, in I haven't seen the the next part of that, but in the 28 years later, where he's got this like skeleton fucking graveyard thing. He's like the Momento Mori. He's like, does this be it's like so it moved me so much watching it. It was just so it was so intense. And he's so like, I don't know, just he can do everything. He can really do everything. He's a really great actor. He gets my gold medal. Yeah. I give us all a 10 out of 10 for our medals and our show and our friendship. Would you guys like to give this movie a rating? 100%. Yes. Okay, the script for this movie is based on a novel. I never read the novel, but what do you guys think of the script for this movie? I loved it. Yeah, I I loved it a lot, but I've conflicted, much like ⁓ many of the Cardinals. I give it an eight because just too too much. Too many too many things were happening. We didn't need the terrorists. You did say that. You said it's one too many ingredients in the stew. Yeah, like the the Tromble thing would have been just fine. That corruption, I it it told it kind of ruined the ending for me with the the the attack on the thing. Because it would never it could never happen. But they the Vatican would be shut down. Also, it they needed a reason to show the juxtaposition of the spirituality versus the politicalness. I also love that it explodes right when he's going to vote for himself. Like they're trying to get him elected, and it's like God being like, not him. No, not him. God's like, ⁓ to kill fifty-two people. Yeah, that's what God decided. So for that I give it a 10. We know God's messy. And so for I give it a 10 too. For portraying how messy God is, a 10. ⁓ the art direction for this movie, the sets, the props, the costumes. I mean this movie luxurious comes to mind. ⁓ just thick with beauty. Ten. Everything looks amazing. I'll give it a ten, too. ⁓ just ⁓ not just the smoke machine alone and the pulp ring and the when the a ribbon to seal your door? Mm-hmm. Ten. Ten. The music for this film. I listened more on this than I did the first time I watched this movie, just because it's something that we judge in the film. And I thought it was awesome. I thought it was great. It like there is not a lot happening in this movie action wise, but it feels like a very intense movie as it's going along. Like it just clips and I think the music has a lot to do with that. So I'm going perfect for the film 10. I'll agree with Nate because I didn't notice that it didn't take away it set the tone. ⁓ sometimes you can have too many cooks in the kitchen. ⁓ not with this one. It was perfect. It was the same noise over and over again and it created a lot of drama. 10. Ooh. I thought you were gonna be like they should have done American Pie or something like that. Well, that would have been kind of cool, but no. ⁓ the genre for this film, that's a good question. Let's let's let's find out what that let's find out what that's about. This is a political thriller. It's a political thriller. It is. It's not your normal politics that we think of, which is like our political leaders, but it's our our there's a lot of politics going on in here and it was dramatic as fuck. ⁓ that's 10 for me. That's I can't imagine anything better. This is a pure political thriller. This is a 10. It's awesome. Like it or not, as much as your aunt on Facebook will denies it, ⁓ religion is very political. ⁓ God is the ultimate president and his earthly form is the Pope. ⁓ that's your president of religion. Very political. Ten. Ten. Yeah. Okay. I agree. I lost myself actually. Pope is the president of religion. I agree. Yep. I lost that's where I lost it. I just I was so proud of that. That ⁓ the Pope is the earthly form of the president for God. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ And then this is the month is my month. It was adults, adult mouths, movies where adults solve their problem with their with the talking and not with fighting. Yeah. Nobody raises a fist. Nobody even raises a finger in this film. It is nothing but sitting around chatting. Chatting and smoking. Love it. Perfectly chosen film 10. Completely agree. I mean, this is talking. It's political. It's a 10. ⁓ yeah, Philip suggested it, but more importantly, we picked it. We're the stars of this one. We picked the perfect ⁓ film at the ten. Yeah, great film. I enjoyed it. I loved watching this. This movie gets a forty nine point three. Forty-nine point three. One of our highest score. I just for the ⁓ the the listeners at home, we we we give ourselves plenty names on our Riverside ⁓ recording. ⁓ this week on The Vaping Priest. ⁓ Kate is Cardinal Larry. And I just got I f I just looked at Nate's again and it made me laugh. He's the Pope of Dope and in brackets and weed. Just in case you were wondering. Just to clarify. Just to clear up so you guys knew what I was talking about. Yeah. Pope of dope. I guess it's time we pick a movie for our next episode. It's a new month. It's a new ⁓ theme. It's Kate's turn. I'm not sold on what I'm gonna do, but I'm gonna do it. What's your mo what's your theme, first of all? Let's do that. Start there. My theme is the world is made up of 70% water, right? The earth is 70% water. Hell yeah. Okay. So I have no idea where this is going. This is so fun. And so. August is for what 70% of the earth is. It has to do with the ocean and beaches. ⁓ this and so ⁓ I was going so I watched the first Dune and I wanted to watch the second Dune, but the second Dune isn't two hours almost three hours, so I'm not doing that to us. But that would work because of all the sand. Yep. Okay. Mm-hmm. So now I'm choosing because we haven't watched it and ⁓ we should watch it. We're gonna watch Titanic. I've never seen Titanic. It's about time I watched this movie. I think that it just became Christmas because Brent just acted as if he had opened up a new pair of shoes or something. Listen, I don't know if you guys know, but parts of the Titanic washed up just down the road from me. ⁓ I know, right? The Titanic sank just off the coast of where I'm at. I'm basically touching it. this is this is my belong. This this is the ⁓ great movie. I can't believe you've never seen it, Nate. Yeah, I've been it's just one of those movies that's like I've been meaning to it, like I've been actively avoiding it. I just never got around to it. So it's it's about time I experienced the Titanic. The Titanic. The Titanic. I love how you Kate decided we're less we're not gonna watch Dune 2 because it's two hours and forty five minutes and Titanic is three hours and seven minutes. Is it really can we switch then? I wanna watch Dune Two. Is it really three No, it's not. It's three hours and 14 minutes. 194 minutes. Okay, can we watch Dune 2 instead? I really wanna watch the second have you guys seen the first Dune? I have, yes. Yeah. Several times. Have you watched the second Dune? Yes. What's he gonna do? You gotta make up your mind. How long is Dune 2? Two hours and 46 minutes. Okay. So that's a difference of 28 minutes. We're watching Dune 2. Okay. Titanic is that's too long. That's that's 20 minutes too long for Kate. Twenty yep. I'm sorry, Nate. I'm sorry. I I think I'd rather watch Dune 2. So you're I don't know why you're apologizing to me. Okay. ⁓ and I like we haven't watched Dune One yet on the podcast. Cause you guys choose movies you want to watch and then you make the thing around. I'm not criticizing the only part that I find funny is that you're like, it's about the water, it's about the beach, and then you're like, they're going to the desert planet of Iraq is where there's literally no water. They're all Well, it's sand, it's a big beach. It's big beach. You're literally, I said, What's your theme? You're like, well. The earth surround is seventy percent water. Yeah. It's very funny. ⁓ and then it I can't yeah, like when you said Titanic, I thought you were joking because I remember Titanic was two DVDs, it was that loud. I do remember that too. You know, no, we're watching Dune Two, the continuation. What a journey. ⁓ well, I'm looking forward to that. ⁓ and that means all that's left to do is say goodnight, Kate. Good night, Kate. I'm a Benny Gesseret. Yeah, she's she used the voice on us. I Good night, Kate. My allegiance is to you. Do you believe me? Do what must be done. Remember Stephanie Gillard? I I made her up to make a girl judgment grade three? She looks good now, I hear. Stephanie? Yeah. Two kids divorced. We're talking about a glow-up. She looks great in sweatpants. Yeah. No. Listen, no. No. She didn't have to glow up. She was beautiful.
