- 0:0010 gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk all
- 0:04things Major League Baseball. Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate
- 0:09Reyes. It all starts right now.
- 0:15Welcome back to the Three O Take presented by Chinook Cedary.
- 0:17This is episode 537. I'll be your host, Kyle Corwin.
- 0:23I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:26Nate. KC how are we?
- 0:29I like the emphasis you put on 537.
- 0:32I don't know it's just I know it's a random number.
- 0:35I had, it feels impressive. I had impressed.
- 0:39Well, I had to say it with conviction because I wasn't
- 0:41entirely sure if that was actually the episode.
- 0:44It was. So I'm like, you know what?
- 0:45So commit to it. Let me just double check here.
- 0:48Yeah, No, 537. This is 537.
- 0:51That's a big deal. We've been around the block,
- 0:54folks. Been grinding, been grinding.
- 0:59Jack Lyder was grinding. Don't you love when?
- 1:03I mean, I'm not wishing ill will against Jack Lyder, but I mean,
- 1:07he was, he was sort of on the hook there for potential no
- 1:09hitter. And we were possibly going to
- 1:11have to kind of wait it out. But you know, gives up what you
- 1:14say, a little little bomb. Yeah, Andre Diaz took him to the
- 1:18right center. The kind of.
- 1:19Clears the air for us so. Yeah.
- 1:21And like, it's, it's not like we're not rooting for no
- 1:24hitters. It's just like timing is
- 1:26important in our in our field, you know, that's all.
- 1:32What do you think? We're just going to record and
- 1:34Jack throws a no hitter and then we wait till Wednesday or
- 1:37Thursday to talk about it? That's not how that works.
- 1:39We'd have to figure it out, so yeah.
- 1:43Yeah, I'm not. I'm not.
- 1:45Yeah. I'm not pulling or wishing ill
- 1:47will against Jack Leiter. No disrespect.
- 1:52No disrespect. No disrespect.
- 1:55You know who I do have disrespect for, though, is the
- 1:59Baltimore Orioles front office. Let's just start right off the
- 2:02top here. Brandon Hyde fired.
- 2:07And here's the thing, I understand that we say all the
- 2:12time the managers going to typically more often than not
- 2:17the first one to go and we say that a lot and that's just sort
- 2:23of the reality of it. But in this particular case it
- 2:29made zero sense. Is there like is there an amount
- 2:33less than 0%? Because that's what it that's,
- 2:36that's the amount of sense that it made negative percent sense.
- 2:43What are we doing? What a mess of an organization
- 2:50right now. And I, I don't, I can't
- 2:55understand, I can't understand. I can't, I don't, I don't know
- 3:00what's going on. How do you have a new ownership
- 3:03group that comes in Part 1? Partial owner, being your
- 3:09franchise player, your biggest legend in Cal Ripken Junior and
- 3:14having like this whole new wave of excitement coming through
- 3:19with this organization, this whole new chapter and it took
- 3:27quickly quickly take such a left turn.
- 3:35I I just, I don't know, I there's so much blame to go
- 3:39around. There's so much blame to go
- 3:42around and I is, is Brandon Hyde completely innocent?
- 3:46No could have done a better job at something.
- 3:51I'm sure. I'm sure.
- 3:53But like, look, the roster configured sucked.
- 3:58We knew this coming in. They weren't doing anything in
- 4:01the offseason. The better their very large hole
- 4:05in pitching. They have a ton of a ton of
- 4:10youth that is really highly regarded in this game.
- 4:15Didn't turn any of that around into anything to plug this hole.
- 4:21That youth is now not performing very well.
- 4:26They're not good offensively. We know how bad pitching is.
- 4:31That see, that's where I disagree with you.
- 4:33I think the pitching has been excellent for the Orioles.
- 4:36In fact, we're witnessing right now we've got, I mean, we've got
- 4:39the game on ace Zach Aflin, huge offseason acquisition on the
- 4:44bump today. Get back, yeah.
- 4:45On the bump today had an incredible, I mean, he only gave
- 4:50up 8 / 10 hits across 5 and a third.
- 4:53What more do you, what more do you want from your prized
- 4:57offseason acquisition? I mean, that's that's what we're
- 5:02is that not what we're hoping for?
- 5:04If you're an Orioles fan, to have to have Zac Eflin going out
- 5:08there and doing what he's doing, the ace that he is you to.
- 5:11Dial back this this sarcasm. I don't like taking, look, I
- 5:16don't like taking victory laps like this often, partially
- 5:20because I don't get many opportunities to do that because
- 5:22I'm wrong more often than not. But you could see this coming
- 5:26from a mile away if you're the front office of the Baltimore
- 5:31Orioles. And and how many times have we
- 5:33said this and you thought after what you did in this this past
- 5:37winter, you're brushing your hands going, I like where we're
- 5:41at. I think we're in a good spot
- 5:43with this, with this rotation would like to know what, what
- 5:48sort of recreational drugs you are partaking in because this
- 5:51wasn't the answer. And again, you could see this
- 5:53coming from a mile away. And it's playing out, I would
- 5:55argue worse than maybe you would have expected if you were, if
- 6:00you were a realist going into this.
- 6:02You're going, this is not going to work out.
- 6:03But there's somehow speaking to the staff, performing worse than
- 6:08I think even somebody like you or me would have anticipated.
- 6:13This is crazy. Let's be real, let's just look
- 6:16at this with with without any type of bias, just through
- 6:22numbers themselves. Zac Eflin is a back end starter.
- 6:27Any other rotation and it's no knock against Zac Eflin.
- 6:31He's a professional athlete who is is playing at the highest
- 6:35level. He's doing better than you and I
- 6:38but like, let's not try to don't fart in my face and tell me it
- 6:43smells good. Dude.
- 6:44Like Zac Eflin is not an ace. Zac Eflin is not a front end
- 6:49starter. Zac Eflin is not your savior
- 6:53coming off the IO to rejuvenate this rotation.
- 6:57Stop telling us that. Stop acting like that is is is
- 7:02what's going to save and turn around this horrific start.
- 7:07Stop. And even if you're fortunate
- 7:10enough to get Grace Grayson Rodriguez back, because I think
- 7:15the jury's still out on that. I think they're hoping for him
- 7:18to come back. I don't know if that, I don't
- 7:19know if that's a guarantee. Even if you get him back, he's
- 7:22not going to be that savior either.
- 7:24Look, let's just be honest. It's it's insane.
- 7:29It's insane. And for Brandon Hyde, look like
- 7:33I I was kind of on the fence in the beginning.
- 7:36I was like, you know what, like this team has turned it around.
- 7:39I love that when you see managers that are very clearly
- 7:43in that position during a rebuild period, to have somewhat
- 7:47of a reward to stick around when when the light has been reached
- 7:52at the end of the tunnel. What we thought they gave him
- 7:56that opportunity. Now that there's been enough of
- 7:58a sample size, it makes me wonder, and can all of the blame
- 8:03be put on a manager? No, there has to be, there has
- 8:06to be accountability on the players for a lack of
- 8:09performance. And there's absolutely been a
- 8:11lack of performance. But I'm turning to the front
- 8:15office here and the only thing that I can land on, dude, is I
- 8:23know no one wants to talk about it.
- 8:25I know it's rarely said, but this organization tanked for
- 8:30years. That's how they got this core.
- 8:33They tanked, they underperformed for years.
- 8:38Now, do you have to have a really good scouting department
- 8:41and a really good developmental side of things in your
- 8:44organization? Yes.
- 8:45You have to draft well, and they did, and they landed big pieces.
- 8:50Did they develop those big pieces?
- 8:52Yes. That's important too.
- 8:56Are these pieces likely going to be a core moving forward and be
- 9:02All Stars and and potential MVPS?
- 9:05Yes. All of that still has to go,
- 9:08right? But when you're a loser
- 9:14organization and you need to tank to become relevant again,
- 9:17it's kind of hard to just sit there and say, here we go.
- 9:21We're going to now flip the switch and turn into a winning
- 9:24organization. You're still a loser
- 9:27organization. It's still lipstick on a pig
- 9:32right now. Man, that's, I mean, that's a
- 9:40take. I know it's harsh but like it,
- 9:43is it wrong? Am I crazy insane?
- 9:45We know that they tanked. We watched it happen.
- 9:48Yeah. But I think to your point,
- 9:49though, about the sample size, I think we're, so I wouldn't say
- 9:52so deep, but like we've had what back-to-back post season runs
- 9:56for the OS now and and we sort of have gotten a glimpse at, OK,
- 10:01this is what the team is post tank, post equipping itself with
- 10:06all of these these young stars. I don't, I, I feel like we're in
- 10:13a new era with the Orioles. So I'm trying to look at this
- 10:15brain and hide firing through that lens.
- 10:18And I'm not, I'm, I'm trying to separate it from the, the, the
- 10:22tanking era or the just the downright pitiful era that we
- 10:26saw what, just a handful of seasons ago, or at least the end
- 10:31of it. But trying and and trying to
- 10:35separate those, I'm looking at this Brandon Hyde situation
- 10:38going, this wasn't the solution. Like, sure, the team has not
- 10:46performed. I mean, they've been they
- 10:49haven't No, did they get a they got a win?
- 10:54No. Did they get swept by Texas two
- 10:56years ago? That.
- 10:58Seriously, when we were there, that was a sweep.
- 11:01Because they went back to Texas, dropped the first one in Texas
- 11:06and then they they got they, they dropped both to Kansas City
- 11:10last year, if I, if I recall. So we're looking at a winless in
- 11:16the post season type of team the last couple years.
- 11:22And then you, you, you, you bounce back from those two
- 11:26finishes with how you've started this year.
- 11:32You and and in between. A terrible offseason where
- 11:36everyone was telling, everyone could see this.
- 11:39Which is my that's my point. You bounce back from those two
- 11:42finishes last year, equip air quotes, equip your team the way
- 11:48you did this offseason. And we're hoping for better
- 11:50results. Haven't gotten those results,
- 11:53have gotten the complete opposite as far the other end of
- 11:58the spectrum as you can. That plays out the way that it
- 12:01does. And then you say, OK, well,
- 12:02Brandon has got to go. What do you expected?
- 12:05This is why. This is why I can never
- 12:07understand when people are like, fire the manager, fire the
- 12:09manager. So like I'm we're dealing with
- 12:11it right now with Alex Kora, with the Reds, with Red Sox fans
- 12:14who are like, this is the solution, let's get it, get rid
- 12:16of Alex Kora, OK? I mean, I know small sample size
- 12:21surely, But they fire, they fire Brandon Hyde, they give up A10
- 12:26spot to the Nationals, the Nationals and they're about to
- 12:32get swept and they're not home in the new Brandon Hyde list
- 12:36era. And then they put up an 8.
- 12:39I mean, they've given up 8 through I think it was what
- 12:42through like 4 innings, four or five innings again to the
- 12:47Nationals. So and to the comment earlier in
- 12:50the chat, looks like this move looks like it sucked the life
- 12:53out of the team, not gave the team life.
- 12:55Couldn't agree more. Firing the manager can be a
- 12:59solution at times. We've seen it play out with the
- 13:01Phillies. This was not the move and the
- 13:05front office knows that This is to cover.
- 13:07This is to cover themselves for the the the near future.
- 13:11And I think once fans wise up, those who haven't, I think, I
- 13:15think smart Orioles fans and I know they're out there.
- 13:19I think once I think the the the less than smart Orioles fans who
- 13:24haven't wised up yet when they finally do and realize, oh, this
- 13:27wasn't the thing that we needed to do because our staff still
- 13:31sucks. And our offense, while, you
- 13:35know, just covered with stars up and down at times, they're
- 13:44under, they're underperforming. So yeah, maybe Brandon Hyde
- 13:48wasn't the move. Mike Elias needs to go.
- 13:52And, and I don't know, man. I, I, it's, it's pitiful.
- 14:01It really is. And there's no other way to look
- 14:03at it. In my mind, there's no other way
- 14:05to look at it. If if this team tanked for so
- 14:09many years to get this good and they don't know what to do with
- 14:11it now that they are good and this team is good when healthy,
- 14:17when when ready to roll, this roster is is solid enough to
- 14:23where you can fill in the gaps by making smart moves for the GM
- 14:28to sit on his hands, for Michael Eyes to do nothing this
- 14:30offseason. Nothing.
- 14:37He had everything he needed to go make this team successful and
- 14:44he did nothing. One thing I wonder is like are,
- 14:48are we our interim managers just like the way like that's just
- 14:53the standard now? Like there is no like, hey,
- 14:57we're firing you, but we have someone else in mind because in
- 15:00my mind, interim coaches are just more of the same.
- 15:04It's more of the same, especially if he's already on
- 15:08the staff. Like it right did that.
- 15:12Are you speaking to that coach behind Brandon Hyde's back a
- 15:17week before and saying like, hey, how much do you disagree
- 15:21with what's going on with Brandon Hyde's?
- 15:23Like, no, that you're not doing that.
- 15:26Any coach that's on his staff is fully backing that.
- 15:31That manager. That's how it goes.
- 15:34That's why they're hired. And if you have some type of
- 15:38internal disagreement, that's already cancerous.
- 15:43So I it's going to be more of the same.
- 15:46I just wonder if like interim coaches are just the way of, of
- 15:52sports firing now. Like, do you not have someone
- 15:56else in place if you're really trying to change things and
- 15:59change the culture, change the voice?
- 16:02Something tells me you need someone that hasn't been in that
- 16:05room for the first two months. That's just me.
- 16:09I don't know. And again, that's the weird
- 16:13timing of this. If if it's July and the Orioles
- 16:21are 8 to 10 games back, I get that.
- 16:25I get I, I kind of get the like, hey, you know what?
- 16:27That's a long enough point in the season we've we're in, you
- 16:31know, 8090 games at this point. Like I, I think we know what
- 16:36this season is at this point. I, I don't know what this season
- 16:42is for the Orioles, because you could see this offense turn
- 16:46things around and completely pop off and be back in the hunt.
- 16:50Like, it's not crazy to see that, and it's not crazy for
- 16:56this team to go make moves and still find pitching that is
- 17:01still doable. Yeah, but you need so much like
- 17:05we're not talking about like a Sandy Alcantro away from now all
- 17:10of a sudden being a force in the postseason like they are down
- 17:14bad right now. And that it just further speaks
- 17:17to the the cowardly nature of this, of this firing.
- 17:21This didn't need to happen. They know it didn't need to
- 17:24happen. And Brandon Hyde's probably on
- 17:26the other side of this now going good luck.
- 17:30I, I mean, my hands were, my hands were tied.
- 17:33I mean, what? What was I supposed to do with
- 17:35this? No, I agree and.
- 17:38Then and they just, I think today, yesterday DFA Ed Kyle
- 17:41Gibson. So it's like, well, that
- 17:42experiment didn't really work. Well, who who was who didn't
- 17:46have a job and was brought on a week before opening day, if
- 17:49that. I think it was days before
- 17:52opening day. No, I thought that.
- 17:54Well, I thought it was like very recent, wasn't it?
- 17:58I thought they brought him in to fill out the rotation like quite
- 18:02literally days before. I could be wrong.
- 18:04Could have already been into the season but like you knew
- 18:12pitching was an issue for the entire offseason and and at
- 18:15least give the guy a full spring training.
- 18:18March, March 21st. Yeah, you're right.
- 18:20It's, it's decisions like that. And I know it's just a small
- 18:23thing, but I, I think that's a microcosm of like the way
- 18:26decisions are being made right now.
- 18:29It's a simple thing. You knew you needed depth.
- 18:33Maybe Kyle Gibson isn't your dream guy, but when all these
- 18:37other pieces come off the board in the offseason and you still
- 18:41haven't made a move, at least give the guy some of a spring
- 18:46training. You gave him no spring training
- 18:50and then you come out and expected for him to do well.
- 18:55Coming into today, they've got the they, they got a 533 ERA as
- 19:00a team, the worst in the American League, third worst in
- 19:03Major League Baseball. And I can only imagine, right
- 19:07I'd I know for certain that one of those teams is the Rockies,
- 19:11which basically don't even count.
- 19:13They don't count and. I don't even know who the other
- 19:16team is, but all that's to say one of the worst Staffs in
- 19:22baseball. But yeah, let's go ahead and bid
- 19:27farewell to our manager. That makes sense.
- 19:31And to your point, like, OK, fine.
- 19:33If you want a new voice, fine. But don't like, I don't know.
- 19:38I don't, I don't know what you expect to change.
- 19:39I don't. I don't foresee anything
- 19:41changing with this move. But that's just me.
- 19:45Any other thoughts on the Brandon Hyde firing?
- 19:52I didn't. I don't know his his past as far
- 19:56as coaching goes, but I think it seems to be kind of a popular
- 20:01move to have your bench coach as like a former manager.
- 20:06So I could see him being a bench coach somewhere soon.
- 20:11Yeah, next year could see that like a team that likes that.
- 20:17You know what, the Yankees brought on Brad Osmus as their
- 20:21bench coach last year. So it's like.
- 20:23Somebody that maybe didn't have a ton of success as a manager,
- 20:26their third base coach is Luis Rojas.
- 20:28So like former managers definitely get jobs.
- 20:30I know we don't talk about it unless it they move into like a
- 20:34new managerial job, but there's a good chance he's going to
- 20:37remain in baseball. There's a good chance he'll find
- 20:40a coaching job elsewhere. And, and I hope he does get a
- 20:42fair crack at being a manager again where there's a competent
- 20:47GM in the driver's seat. Michael Isis needs to go.
- 20:50What's my last thought? Speaking of going, Jose Alvarado
- 20:57is going to be going to Cancun or somewhere because he can't
- 21:00play baseball because he's been suspended 80 games without pay
- 21:06for violating MLB drug policy, tested positive for exogenous
- 21:14testosterone, which is APED suspension starts or is
- 21:22effective immediately, and as a result, given the nature of the
- 21:28rule, will also be ineligible for the postseason should the
- 21:30Phillies make it this year. Lee's a team with 7 saves coming
- 21:36into Sunday, and it's four and one with a 27 and 20
- 21:41appearances. 25 strikeouts to four walks over 20 innings.
- 21:50Not good news for the Phillies. These are always such certainly
- 21:54dumb, dumb, dumb things. These are always so stupid to
- 21:59hear about. It's such a it's frustrating to
- 22:02me as an honorary Phillies fan who who recently received that
- 22:07honor, I think within like the last week or two, shout out
- 22:11Henry. It's it's frustrating to me
- 22:19because we talked coming into this year about, well, you, I
- 22:22don't think as much you, I think you flipped a script like the
- 22:25day of when we did our pre season predictions episode.
- 22:28Like, no, no, I'm, I'm totally all in on the Phillies this
- 22:31year, but I just, I foresee this window starting to kind of close
- 22:42just a little bit. And I think I said before the
- 22:44season started, I, I give the Phillies like one last
- 22:47legitimate shot. Like sure, can they make runs
- 22:51beyond this year? No doubt, but I'm talking trying
- 22:55to bottle up that magic that we've seen over the last few
- 22:59years. Granted, it hasn't it hasn't
- 23:01panned out the way they would have hoped or me as an again, as
- 23:04an honorary Phillies fan would have hoped and as a as Bryce
- 23:09Harper's greatest fan would have hoped.
- 23:13But I think you're that magic is running low.
- 23:17And when you lose a key element to the equation like Alvarado,
- 23:26I'm sure you're going to get him back for for a little bit longer
- 23:28this year once the suspension's up.
- 23:30But that losing him for the postseason, that's a that's a
- 23:33huge blow, huge blow. Yeah.
- 23:36And I think they kind of took a chance on Jordan Romano to see
- 23:41if he could come in and like find rediscover what he was over
- 23:46a few years in Toronto of like being a really good closer.
- 23:49And it just it hasn't looked good at all.
- 23:54You know, the weight is falling on a guy who just finished off
- 23:57their inning with Matt Strom. They did have I I.
- 24:02I'm curious to see because their rotation is really good,
- 24:05especially now that like. Well -1 name who we'll we'll get
- 24:11into in just a minute. But.
- 24:13Yeah. Otherwise, rotation is good and
- 24:16it's it's, it's interesting because like, I know we say it
- 24:22every year like the easiest holes to plug at the deadline
- 24:27are are bullpens. I don't know about you, but I'm
- 24:32getting the vibe that like bullpens across the league this
- 24:35year are just not very good. Like we're not seeing a clear
- 24:40cut dominant bullpen. We're seeing big closer names
- 24:45being demoted, struggling and I'm not seeing a super like
- 24:52there's going to be a lot of teams that need to fill in the
- 24:54bullpen and the Phillies need somebody.
- 24:58This is going to have to get resolved somehow, some way.
- 25:02And they don't have the farm to like, I don't know how this move
- 25:06or a move is going to be able to happen.
- 25:09And I wouldn't be surprised if, like a Taiwan Walker ends up
- 25:13getting pushed to the bullpen and just having to accept some
- 25:17type of new role. You saw this able kid that made
- 25:20his debut today. He looked pretty good.
- 25:21And like, I wonder if maybe there's some type of transition
- 25:25between the rotation of the bullpen that needs to happen to
- 25:29find some innings back there. I don't know.
- 25:36The what was I going to say? Oh, to your, to your, to your
- 25:41point about the, the lockdown bullpen or or lack thereof, I
- 25:44think, I mean, I don't know, I don't have the data in front of
- 25:48me, but just based on the way we've seen baseball evolve over
- 25:53the last few years and we've we've touched on this less of of
- 25:58a dependence, less of an importance placed on starting
- 26:00pitching, more of a reliance on, on the bullpen.
- 26:04These guys are going to be more taxed.
- 26:06You're not going to be able to, you're not going to be able to
- 26:09to structure a bullpen traditionally the way you used
- 26:13to. Like you're not going to have
- 26:14your, you're not necessarily going to have your 789 guys
- 26:18because you're seeing a shift into bringing maybe your best
- 26:23arm in higher leverage situation.
- 26:25So you're not going to have true closers as much anymore like
- 26:29we've talked about. And because of that, guys are
- 26:34going to be placed in a different situations.
- 26:36Guys are going to be throwing more innings.
- 26:39And then on the closer, we're just seeing less of a an
- 26:46emphasis placed on the traditional closer role.
- 26:48Like you're seeing a lot of closer by committee situations
- 26:52and you're seeing I think maybe a quicker trigger pull on some
- 26:57of these closers who are struggling because of that.
- 26:59Because you have other guys you're like, well, let's just
- 27:01slot him in to the 9th and see if he can close down some games
- 27:05for us. Yeah, and teams go from there.
- 27:08So to your point, I, I think the, the bullpen bullpens in
- 27:14general, I, I think need as much help as they can get.
- 27:17And going back to the original point, if you lose a guy like
- 27:20Jose Alvarado, who you more often than not can rely on for
- 27:24some of those higher leverage situations, you lose out on
- 27:26that. Not a good place to be.
- 27:29I could see something because they don't have a ton of capital
- 27:33that they can move. I wouldn't be surprised if they,
- 27:36like if the Orioles stay out of the hunt, I wouldn't be
- 27:39surprised if they go get like Gregory Soto back, You know what
- 27:42I mean? Like, bring back a familiar face
- 27:43and it's who's going to be up for grabs, Who's going to be,
- 27:47you know, very cheap. I wouldn't be surprised if
- 27:50something like that happens. Of course, you got to turn to a
- 27:54lot of these teams that are underperforming and say, like, I
- 27:57wonder if there is a name that's up for grabs.
- 27:59Will like in the meantime, there's innings that need to be
- 28:02found and they this isn't like something that you, they can
- 28:05just sit around and wait for the deadline for.
- 28:09So I'm just I'm really curious to see what direction they go
- 28:12towards. You mentioned the rotation being
- 28:17pretty strong and for the most part looking looking pretty
- 28:23good. Zach Wheeler has been excellent.
- 28:25Jesus Lozardo also been excellent, but a name in
- 28:30particular Aaron Nola has struggled mightily placed on.
- 28:38I mean it has there been a more obvious ghost I Elston.
- 28:44I feel who who just had one recently that we, I feel like we
- 28:49just had this conversation and I'm pretty sure it was a
- 28:52starter. Stroman Stroman still on the
- 28:54Ghost, IL. No, it was like it was within
- 28:57the last week or two, somebody got put up on the shelf and we
- 29:00talked about it and I was like, is this not the most obvious
- 29:02ghost in of all time? I'm, I'm struggling to remember
- 29:06who it was. But anyway, I think this is the
- 29:11new most obvious ghost in of all time because he was put on the
- 29:1515 day IL with a sprained right ankle.
- 29:17I'm going to go ahead and say that's not the case.
- 29:22Probably not. Nola is sporting a What has he
- 29:27got this year? He's got a 616 on the year, 1:00
- 29:33and 7:00, and has already given up 11 homers on the year.
- 29:42What happened to Aaron Nola? It's been bad for a while.
- 29:47I'm going to pull up the overall stats.
- 29:52It's been, it's been pretty bad for a while.
- 29:57And I think the Philly's success, I, I mean, I'm not
- 30:03going to sit here and say they've been fantastic, but like
- 30:06they've been relevant year after year.
- 30:13I mean, he made, he's making starts like he's, he's rolling
- 30:18it out there 20/22 he had 205 innings.
- 30:22He he definitely chews up innings.
- 30:24It's just, it's not at like a level of production you would
- 30:31expect. You know, this year's safari has
- 30:35a 69 ERA plus last year was a 116, which is solid.
- 30:41But again, that's like that's not the 1-2 punch that you're
- 30:46expecting 96 ERA plus and 2023. So like, it's not awful, it's
- 30:56just it's not good enough. It's not good enough.
- 31:00A 616 ERA this year. Like it?
- 31:03Makes you wonder if they were, if the Phillies were sort of
- 31:05anticipating some regression here and that's why they went
- 31:08out and got Lizardo. I mean, it's it never hurts to
- 31:11have too much pitching, but it just makes you wonder.
- 31:14And again, I don't know if maybe if they foresaw how how well
- 31:18Lizardo's even going to throw this year.
- 31:19So maybe they. Lozardo's been good.
- 31:21Rangers, Suarez coming back off the IO has looked good since
- 31:25he's been back. We know Christopher Sanchez is
- 31:27the real deal. Like obviously Zach Wheeler is
- 31:30like a Sion candidate every year.
- 31:32Like that rotation is deep. Then that's what makes me wonder
- 31:36if like someone's going to have to take a new role.
- 31:41And I'm, I wonder if this IL phantom IL stint is going to be
- 31:46followed up with something new for, for Enola.
- 31:50And, and I haven't looked at like pitch metrics at all.
- 31:52Like I, I wonder if how much velocity is down.
- 31:55I wonder how much, you know, opposing batting average has
- 31:59gone up on certain pitches. Like I, those are things that
- 32:02only a team can really know if they, if they have their guy.
- 32:06But like I, it sucks. It hasn't been good enough.
- 32:13And it like at at this point right now, it's hard to believe
- 32:17that he's like a trusted, sharp eaten name in an NLDS series.
- 32:24It's just it's hard to, it's hard to believe that there's a
- 32:28ton of faith in him. Which is a long ways away, which
- 32:31is why I'm not, I'm not like fully hitting the panic button
- 32:34yet for the Phillies, but it I'm.
- 32:35Not hitting the panic button just because they're depth.
- 32:37Like, yeah, their rotation is good.
- 32:39Yeah, yeah. They still owe him a lot of
- 32:43money too, I think. Right.
- 32:45And he's not getting any younger.
- 32:47He's 32 this year. I wonder what that contract is
- 32:54like. 72 back in 23 So what, five years?
- 33:00Yeah, yeah, 2030, this is a tough one.
- 33:08Basically making 24 1/2 a year, that's not super tradable.
- 33:15I. I had, I had.
- 33:17It's too or. I think it's far too early.
- 33:20To be talking, I get it. I I think he's what's nice is
- 33:23that he has been healthy and he has made his starts and and he
- 33:27is chewing up innings. But again, that's not 25,000,000
- 33:32dollars, $25 million means like you're a guy that I want to own
- 33:37a lean on deep into a post season run.
- 33:39And it just hasn't looked like that for a few years now.
- 33:42Consistently anyway. There's still time to figure it
- 33:45out. Maybe a little drop of an angle.
- 33:49That always seems to be the fix for these guys.
- 33:51It's like drop an arm slot up or down and like you find something
- 33:56new, call me. Crazy, but he's isn't he
- 33:58already? Sorted.
- 33:59He's pretty low. He's pretty low.
- 34:02Maybe go up, see what happens, see what like.
- 34:04I don't try it out. Yeah, he's like pretty out.
- 34:09Like he's. He's definitely, like, out here.
- 34:14That was right out. You can't see me.
- 34:16You can't see. Where is that?
- 34:18Out here? Cool.
- 34:20Yeah. See out here.
- 34:21Yeah. You see where my arm's at.
- 34:24Definitely. Let's talk about Guy.
- 34:34This guy is turning into such a cornball.
- 34:35Let's talk about Juan Soto's return to the Bronx.
- 34:39That made some news. Dude.
- 34:40I'm. I'm kind of I'm.
- 34:42I'm, I think I'm kind of out on this, on the whole Juan Soto
- 34:46thing. I, I said when he was with the
- 34:49Yankees, I said this sucks that I have to root against Swan Soto
- 34:54because I really like Juan Soto. But just seeing the way this
- 34:59offseason went, seeing the way he is, sort of began his, his
- 35:05lengthy tenure with the Mets, or so we can assume.
- 35:10Who knows, maybe they trade him in the offseason.
- 35:12I don't know, because he just bounces around from team to team
- 35:17until he find it, finds a new one he likes.
- 35:21I think I'm, I'm kind of just out on that.
- 35:23Like the ego is getting to be too much for me.
- 35:25He, I, I texted our fantasy league group chat over the
- 35:28weekend. I'm like, he his ego is eating
- 35:30this attention up. Like he.
- 35:32Yeah, And you watch it like when they had a camera on him, he's
- 35:36like, he's trying to play it off as though he's, he's tuning
- 35:39everything out. He's he's focused on what he's
- 35:42doing. But I'm like you, we know this
- 35:45guy is hearing everything and is loving every second.
- 35:50He he loves the attention. I think, I think there's a level
- 35:56of him enjoying attention. Of course, I think that there
- 36:03was maybe a little bit of like a misconception or or a different
- 36:08expectation of what this weekend was going to bring.
- 36:12On on whose behalf I like I. Think that.
- 36:15I think there was some type of appreciation that I think he was
- 36:21going to receive. I think in his mind he was going
- 36:24to receive. Not necessarily a warm welcome,
- 36:28but I think like they made they made it to the World Series.
- 36:31He had one of his best years of his career.
- 36:35I think that there was something in the back of his mind where he
- 36:38expected that there was who's the crazy radio guy for the Mets
- 36:43that no one ever likes? The bald guy who just has the
- 36:46most ridiculous takes. Oh, not Sal.
- 36:51What's his name? I think it is Sal.
- 36:52Is it Sal? I think it's Sal.
- 36:54Something just the most ridiculous takes.
- 37:00He had a Yankee another like Yankee radio guy on and I just I
- 37:06saw this clip and it made me think that like I wonder if
- 37:09there's just a misconception of what's going on here.
- 37:13He was like, do you think there will be a tribute video for Soto
- 37:18and the Yankee radio guy was like, no, what do you for one
- 37:23year? No, absolutely for dude took a
- 37:29couple extra bucks to go across town.
- 37:32No, he's not getting a tribute video.
- 37:35And it makes me wonder if like, is there like not a total
- 37:40understanding of reality here? And did Juan Soto maybe share
- 37:45some type of similar thing? It just seemed odd like that the
- 37:50tip of the helmet while you're getting hammered with booze was
- 37:55like a. Which by the way, you want to
- 37:57talk about one of the biggest cornball moves of all time?
- 38:00Like, sure, I'm going to, I'm going to take my shot at Soto
- 38:03here for sort of just eating it all up and everything.
- 38:06But on the flip side, that whole turn your back thing for the
- 38:11Yankees, what is what is this? Is this like high school
- 38:15basketball? Yeah, I don't know.
- 38:18What in the world was that? I'm honestly surprised.
- 38:22I didn't love it. I didn't hate it.
- 38:23I'm. Surprised they didn't all whip
- 38:25out like a newspapers like they do in the in those rivalry games
- 38:29in like middle school or high school.
- 38:31We don't care that's. That's so valid in high school
- 38:34though, yeah. Keywords in high school like
- 38:38these are these are full blown adults that paid actual real
- 38:41money to go to the. Same that there were like when
- 38:44everyone turned around, you saw like a number of 22.
- 38:49I'm like, well, this is stupid. You can't turn around and wear
- 38:51his jersey. Like that's embarrassing.
- 38:55So I don't know honestly. The guy who?
- 38:57Leads the Bleacher creatures. Drives me insane.
- 39:00I don't like him. The old guy Fireman Ed was like
- 39:03back in the day was the guy like that was the man that lead the
- 39:06crew. But like this guy's like, I
- 39:08don't. Was it no Dominguez took 24 who
- 39:13somebody took? 2222.
- 39:14That's what, yeah, yeah. But that's right.
- 39:16So that's probably their justification.
- 39:18And also people. Who are buying jerseys Yankee
- 39:21jerseys with names on the back? I I already discrediting you.
- 39:27So the ones that have 22 with Soto is like double whammy.
- 39:31But I thought that was interesting.
- 39:33IA lot of stuff was I thought was well done on the Yankee
- 39:40side. I'm really, really thankful that
- 39:43there was no tribute video. I don't know if you saw the clip
- 39:46of like the pregame warm up where Judge is running out to
- 39:50center. Soto runs out to center and
- 39:53Judge just like immediately. I don't think he saw him.
- 39:55I I saw Judge in his zone. I don't think that was
- 39:58intentional. No, no, no.
- 40:00No, but I do like the fact that there wasn't like this like
- 40:05welcoming by anybody. There was no Welsh ring of like
- 40:10I saw a clip of pregame BP Aaron Boone comes over and hugs him
- 40:14like that's a manager player relationship.
- 40:17That's fine. They did also give him the the
- 40:21the their his ALCS ring back in the tunnel.
- 40:28I think it was after before the game.
- 40:30So like that happened. I'm.
- 40:31Sorry, a a what? They gave him a what?
- 40:35They're yeah, they have like ALCS rings I think.
- 40:37I know. I just wanted to hear you say
- 40:38it, that's all. Yeah, that's such a such a silly
- 40:43concept. I agree.
- 40:45I've never been on board. I've never understood why those
- 40:47are a thing. I think it's stupid, I think
- 40:49it's ridiculous when people hang banners for wild.
- 40:54Card finishes, not even wins. It's just like, yeah, we made it
- 40:57to the wall, made it to the wall.
- 40:59Terrible. I agree there should be nothing
- 41:02except World Series rings, but like all of that stuff was done
- 41:05behind and I, I think it was all well done.
- 41:09I, I think that there's parts of this weekend that earked Soto in
- 41:16a way. And as much as he wants to smile
- 41:19and kind of laugh and play it off, he gets in the box and he
- 41:22taps Austin Welsh shin guard and like smiles and like, I just I
- 41:26don't know if there's any type of like misconception.
- 41:33There are You're not accepted. Like you're you're.
- 41:37We've deleted you from our minds in a way.
- 41:40Again, this kind of goes back to my comments originally about the
- 41:43ego thing. I think as, as he, as he gets
- 41:48older, I think it's only going to get worse.
- 41:51Now I'm, I'm not saying what he's like 40.
- 41:52I don't I'm not saying it's going to be getting
- 41:54exponentially worse at that point, but I'm just saying like
- 41:56in this little window that we're in right now or he, I mean,
- 42:00let's face it, he's hopping he's been hopping around teams and
- 42:03he's making his way around the league and he I think he's he's
- 42:08getting to a point in his career where he's starting to feel like
- 42:10the league somehow maybe and I'm I'm.
- 42:13A little villain. Yeah, he's sort of thinks the
- 42:16league. He's like the center, the
- 42:18central part of point of the league, and I'm like like you're
- 42:21good and I I've I've called you a generational talent many times
- 42:25and still believe that you are. But like I don't have have like
- 42:30take the glasses off man, see things the way they are like
- 42:33you. This was not going to end well
- 42:35for you in the. No, I didn't.
- 42:37I didn't like the I didn't like the tip of the cap and the
- 42:40smiling. I didn't like the laughing.
- 42:42When I think it was yesterday. Was it yesterday?
- 42:50I don't remember what they rode on through.
- 42:53There was like a fastball up and in and kind of like brushed him
- 42:56back and and Soto's like smiling.
- 42:58And it's like, no, dude, we're not like this isn't cool.
- 43:02Like we're not like, you know what I mean?
- 43:04Like you didn't spend 5-6 years with these guys and what like
- 43:08it's it was one year. You did great.
- 43:11We came up short. Like there's no fond memories,
- 43:16you know what I'm saying? Like and I think that he thinks
- 43:19there is. I don't know it's.
- 43:20You can't have the you can't have it the best of both the
- 43:23worlds, man. You can't like leave for the
- 43:24paycheck when we know that that's why you left and then
- 43:27also like have your ties and and vibe with the guys across town.
- 43:32That's. Just not the two other things I
- 43:34don't know if anyone saw, but like the Yankees broadcast
- 43:36didn't go to commercial break after the top half.
- 43:39They wanted to stay on to see him run from the dugout and go
- 43:43to right field for the first time.
- 43:44And then that's when you're talking about, you know, the
- 43:47Bleacher creatures like turning around, but he was way, way, way
- 43:53late out of the dugout, like pitcher on the mound already 3
- 44:00or 4 pitches into his warm up every other player on the field.
- 44:03And then he makes his way out there.
- 44:07And then later in the game, there was.
- 44:08Like that was intentional. Yes, he's.
- 44:11Milking all of. That, that's what.
- 44:13I'm saying, man. And then, hey, bro, am I good to
- 44:16come out now? Like down in the, he's like down
- 44:18in the tunnel. Like, yeah, you're purposely
- 44:20being slow, like just go. And then late in the game,
- 44:23there's a deep fly ball to the track.
- 44:25And he he like, backs his up, backs up to the fence.
- 44:29And then he like, doesn't turn around to flip the ball.
- 44:32He just launches it over his head, which I thought was a
- 44:34weirdo move as well. I don't.
- 44:37And it wasn't like a little flip.
- 44:39It was like, oh. Yeah, he hooked it.
- 44:40It was like a. Heave to like the second deck.
- 44:44Yeah, Ball got tossed back, by the way.
- 44:45I don't know if you knew that the Yankee fans were like, no,
- 44:49we're not. There's like a if he would have
- 44:50turned around, there was like a Mets fan kid like right in front
- 44:54of him could have given like this little 10 year old like the
- 44:57ball of his. Light made this kids day, but
- 45:00no, you got to heave it deep into the bleachers and that ball
- 45:04just gets launched back. Like up to the light.
- 45:06Here, I'm here for the pettiness.
- 45:07I'm here, I'm here for all of it.
- 45:10So far he hasn't had like a super impactful series.
- 45:14Yeah, I know he had that three walk game and a stolen base, but
- 45:19like I don't know if you saw the SAC fly that was short shallow
- 45:22right field and he 3 hopped it home then wasn't in anywhere
- 45:26near being in time. It's just like all of that.
- 45:29I'm soaking all of it in but I don't think there's any like.
- 45:33You meant, by the way you meant impactful game in this series,
- 45:37right? Exactly.
- 45:38You said impactful. Oh, I see what you're saying.
- 45:40Nevermind. Yeah, he hasn't been like a
- 45:42difference maker. Sure, sure, sure.
- 45:44Yeah, yeah, so far. So obviously I'm going to
- 45:47probably regret it and he's going to have two, two bombs
- 45:49tonight off of Freed. But you know, we'll see.
- 45:53Hey, we'll we'll be keeping score for that.
- 45:55We'll be there. That little plug, little plug.
- 45:57Be sure to join us for our live stream where?
- 45:59We're natalby teach us how to keep keep score.
- 46:02Bring your books, BABYOB. Last thing I'll say on it,
- 46:05though. He there was there should have
- 46:08been no expectation that he was going to get a tribute video
- 46:10because they get they gave John Sterling who gave his life to
- 46:14that team like ATV. So let's we're not we're not.
- 46:19Yeah, they said here's your here's your Sony.
- 46:23Now hit the road buddy buddy boy and so don't think he's.
- 46:28Getting anybody's number, but we ain't giving you a trivia video.
- 46:32So don't think he's getting a trivia video.
- 46:36Wasn't even there for like a calendar year.
- 46:37Insane. Oh boy, let's talk about the
- 46:43twins, huh? Let's talk about the twins and
- 46:47I'll, I'll start right off by saying I owe the twins an
- 46:50apology. I I think when I made my my
- 46:53cheeky comment last time it was. A little cheeky, it was a little
- 46:57I didn't disagree, but I. When I made my cheeky comment
- 47:00about, well, this, I think at the time it was an 8 game win
- 47:03streak. Yeah, I guess it'd been like
- 47:05about a week or so ago. I was like, yeah, well, this
- 47:07eight game win streak has catapulted them from 4th in the
- 47:10American League Central to 4th in the American League Central.
- 47:15I guess at the time I don't, I didn't realize how stacked or
- 47:20like how closely stacked, yeah, how tight the division was
- 47:26because they are now. And granted that, I mean,
- 47:28they've tacked on five wins since then, but they are now in
- 47:32second behind only the Tigers, the Tigers who are playing
- 47:40rather well. But yeah, I, I just want to get
- 47:44that apology out there. Yeah, there's seven and three
- 47:46and the last 10 for the the Tigers.
- 47:47So they're playing wild, 30 and 16.
- 47:49Twins are behind them, as I mentioned, 26 and 20 coming into
- 47:53Sunday. So since that comment, you've
- 47:58left the Royals and the Guardians who are are neck and
- 48:02neck. But yeah, man, they, they just
- 48:05keep on winning. What's the, what's the status of
- 48:08the day? I haven't.
- 48:08Tried. I was just, I just pulled that
- 48:10up. They're down 41 in Milwaukee
- 48:13going into the bottom of the sixth, so it could all end and
- 48:20they could very well be back in fourth place next week.
- 48:23So I yeah, so. Which end everything I just said
- 48:27yeah, so everything I just said goes out the window and it's not
- 48:31I'm. Not like trying to like
- 48:32completely dog on them and just trash them.
- 48:34But like like we said, the AO Central's tight and in the top
- 48:38four teams are White Sox don't exist in my mind, but the rest
- 48:42of the division is competitive and in literally every game
- 48:50they're four games back. Cleveland's 4 1/2 back at the
- 48:53time of this recording in in Kansas City's 5 1/2 back.
- 48:56Like again this. They could be back and forth
- 48:58place this time next week. You never know.
- 49:02I think that's the way they all Central is going to go.
- 49:06I wonder when they're next. Nope, perfect.
- 49:11They're facing the Guardians next starting tomorrow and then
- 49:15the Royals right after that. So it's going to be interesting
- 49:20to see if this hot streak, which I don't know if the win streak
- 49:23ends today, but we can still call it a hot streak if it
- 49:25continues on into these divisional matchups.
- 49:29But six games against against your division is no joke.
- 49:33So is this real? Is it not I It's hard to say.
- 49:39Their pitching staff does look good.
- 49:41I'll give them that. Like they're starting pitching
- 49:43does look really solid. Last last night was their third
- 49:47straight shut out. Yeah, Saturday night.
- 49:50Yeah. And it's it's not just Pablo.
- 49:54You know, Joe Ryan looks really good.
- 49:59I'm curious to see if this is if this is real and if not, like I
- 50:07bet other teams are watching because if they do end up in
- 50:11fourth place in this division come deadline time, like there's
- 50:14a lot of valuable names that you could pick off of this.
- 50:18So hell Central man, there is a real chance we could see three
- 50:28teams representing the Central in this post season.
- 50:33I'd like it in a year where the the American League as a whole
- 50:37is kind of, kind of. Booty cheeks.
- 50:41The tigers look legit dude. They're not going anywhere.
- 50:44That looks real. Can I interest you in Jackson
- 50:48Job in a fantasy trade by chance?
- 50:54Let's get that out there. Let that marinate a little bit.
- 50:55Let that marinate. Yeah, you just put me on the
- 50:58spot. Yeah.
- 50:59No, just I'm throwing it out there.
- 51:01Let me look at the game log. You don't need to do that.
- 51:04I'm just throwing it out there. Yeah, as you mentioned, pitching
- 51:09has been excellent. Whether or not they stop, stop,
- 51:15they're starting out there. Whether or not they can keep us
- 51:18up, we shall see. I mean, we'll know probably
- 51:21within a within the hour. But, you know, good on the
- 51:25Twins. Glad they finally got out of
- 51:284th. Starting to get old, old and
- 51:31musty down there being that close to the White Sox.
- 51:38Let's talk. Oh, before I forget because I
- 51:42just saw a Pirates promo, let let us let's talk about this
- 51:48broadcast call real quick. Let me find Call the week.
- 51:51This was excellent. Here we go.
- 51:53Before we continue with this telecast, we have to address
- 51:56what is on everybody's minds and hearts.
- 51:59July 29th, 2022. Our beloved score book first lit
- 52:04up the screens here with Philly's television.
- 52:06It was more than just a scoreboard, it was a legend, an
- 52:09unforgettable icon. Its name, once met with
- 52:12chuckles, quickly became synonymous with good times and
- 52:15fierce robberies. As the final out arrives on its
- 52:18bright and brilliant run, it will be missed, Gone, but never
- 52:23forgotten. Before we continue with.
- 52:26Love that. And if you have no idea what
- 52:29they're talking about, it was the, the good old, there you go,
- 52:36the old, the old poop, the old poop game.
- 52:41Such a legendary score bug really was.
- 52:44And it, I mean, it was it. It wasn't the score bug
- 52:48necessarily, but the score bug allowed for this masterpiece to
- 52:53unfold. And it was when the Phillies and
- 52:55Pirates would match up and you start the game, you got the P of
- 52:59the Phillies, you got the P of the pirates.
- 53:01And in the middle you got a nice fresh start to a game.
- 53:04OO spelling out poop. I'm sure you've seen it as I
- 53:08mentioned, but that is no longer since the the Phillies have
- 53:14since done away with that square bug.
- 53:16We're we're no it we're no longer able to get the, the poop
- 53:19games. So they, they, as you heard, did
- 53:23that nice little tribute. I honestly, when that started,
- 53:26I, I thought I was sitting down. I, I was about to watch.
- 53:32I well, that's what I'm saying. I thought I was getting ready to
- 53:34sit down to watch the mat like the first round of the masters
- 53:37or something. I'm like.
- 53:38This is this is crazy. I thought someone passed away
- 53:42like I, I really, it sounded like quite the remembrance.
- 53:47So look, I mean, that's a nine two for me.
- 53:53That's a that's a nine two call. Like if we're if we're going to
- 54:01give something a nine, that's that for me.
- 54:05That's that's a job well done. You didn't hear crock like
- 54:09butting in and and chuckling and interrupting at all.
- 54:13Oh, you we had, you know we had. They had him on mute.
- 54:16No doubt he. Had his mic turned off but in.
- 54:18Fact. He was probably out of the room
- 54:20if we're being honest. I love you're keeping that a
- 54:249/2. That's a 9/2.
- 54:26Let me let me run that back one more time before I commit.
- 54:30Do you have the video? Do you see the video?
- 54:32July? 20.
- 54:33Ninth yeah, but I told you we get flags when we true first lit
- 54:36up the. Screens here with Phillies
- 54:39television. It was more than just a
- 54:41scoreboard. It was a legend, an
- 54:43unforgettable icon. Its name, once met with
- 54:46chuckles, quickly became synonymous with good times and
- 54:49fierce rivalries. As the final out arrives on its
- 54:52bright and brilliant run, it will be missed.
- 54:55Gone, but never forgotten. This is the I got the I got the
- 55:02thing you're talking about. This is what they, this is what
- 55:05they had while he was doing the broadcast.
- 55:08Just just, I mean, that's top shelf.
- 55:11That's in the clouds. Dude like with the sun shining
- 55:15down like incredible. Poop.
- 55:17Scoreboard yeah, I'm going to have to go.
- 55:20Honestly, I don't think I realized it was only three
- 55:23years, three seasons. I I seemed like they had had
- 55:26that for a while, but. Awesome.
- 55:29Yeah, I guess I'll give that a. I don't know.
- 55:34I don't want to get swept up in the emotion of it, but I think
- 55:37I'm. I'm very emotional about it,
- 55:39but. I'll go, I'll go 8-9.
- 55:41Sure, sure. I mean, that's strong for me.
- 55:44That's strong. That's 8-9 is strong.
- 55:47Yeah. It's really going to take
- 55:48something extraordinary to, Yeah, get me into the.
- 55:53Shout out, shout out Philly's production.
- 55:56That's just to have the awareness.
- 55:59That's that's awareness right there.
- 56:03That's that's leaning into something that you know, people
- 56:06are talking about. It's not like trying to trying
- 56:09to act all high society like, oh, we're above this.
- 56:13No, lean into the fact that you don't have the poop scoreboard
- 56:16because people genuinely miss the poop scoreboard.
- 56:18That's right. That's that's how you do it.
- 56:21That's how you do it. It's impressive.
- 56:23You think the Yankees would do something like that?
- 56:25No, no, no, no, no. Bunch of chumps.
- 56:30All right, closing the book here.
- 56:32Shohei threw a bullpen just the other day, made-up the 50
- 56:37pitches. This was Saturday afternoon, 50
- 56:39pitches. Dave Roberts says that he would
- 56:42rather have him ready to go down the stretch in October,
- 56:46September and October rather than May or June.
- 56:50I'm like, whoa, hold your horses there, Dave.
- 56:51You don't know that you're going to be playing in October.
- 56:58Hey, just saying and laugh all you want, but there's nothing
- 57:01guaranteeing the Dodgers are going to be in the post season
- 57:04this year. I agree it's too early.
- 57:06Can't be talking like that, Dave.
- 57:08I took the under on the 105, so I'm with you.
- 57:11What did he say, Dave? Speaking of Dave, he he made a
- 57:14guarantee. What was that guarantee he made
- 57:17like a year or two ago? Do you know what I'm talking
- 57:21about? No, I mean to put you on the
- 57:22spot here, but he he hasn't been great with with guarantees.
- 57:28It was something about the the World Series or something.
- 57:32Do you have? Do you have any idea what I'm
- 57:34talking about? I don't.
- 57:38I do not. Oh yeah, he said we're winning
- 57:41the World Series in 2 in 2022 and they did not win the World
- 57:45Series in 2022. So yeah, he's, he's over here
- 57:51spouting off like, oh, he'll be in October.
- 57:53I don't know, Dave. I mean, it's like 99.9% chance,
- 57:57but it's baseball. It's like the IT is baseball, I
- 58:03think. People who don't know me or
- 58:05think that I'm the the biggest idiot.
- 58:08Yeah, probably. But there is like a weird just
- 58:15confidence in in their starting pitching at the moment.
- 58:19And it's like, yo, we got a lot of guys on the shelf, you know?
- 58:24I dude, I'm glad you brought that up.
- 58:26I saw something the other day. Kershaw just made his his return
- 58:30yesterday. Yeah, good, right.
- 58:32I didn't see numbers, but I. No, I think he gave up like 5.
- 58:36Yeah. Where did I I saw I saw this
- 58:38graphic. 14 pictures on the IL. Yeah, but don't worry, let's
- 58:53show. Hey, take his time.
- 58:56Well, I, I mean, I can look at both of those things separately
- 59:00and say you can address them. You know, it's not one's not
- 59:04going to solve the other. And if you rush one, you're
- 59:08going to be in an even deeper. Way rush this is as slow as it
- 59:12could possibly go we've. Talked about this though, this
- 59:17is I, I genuinely believe this is going to be the last ex
- 59:20experimentation with Shohei the pitcher.
- 59:24That was that was I was looking back at our hot takes from back
- 59:27in March or the other day. That was one of my that was one
- 59:31of my storyline takes that I had.
- 59:33I said we're going to see the last inning from Shohei the
- 59:36pitcher this year. And if they if they rush it even
- 59:41a a percentage point, we could very well be looking at the end
- 59:45of Shohei the pitcher. That's just me.
- 59:56Bryce Harper. The aforementioned Bryce Harper
- 59:59notched his one thousandth RBI on Friday night and a little
- 1:00:05bloke single to left little Nugget here.
- 1:00:11I I believe this is credit due to MLB.com. 14th player in MLB
- 1:00:18history to reach 1000 RBIs, 1000 runs and 1000 walks before
- 1:00:22turning 33. 11 of the previous thirteen are in the Hall of
- 1:00:28Fame. Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmy
- 1:00:30Foxx, Mel OTT, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Eddie Matthews,
- 1:00:34Ron Santo, Frank Thomas, Jeff Bagwell and Jim Tell me the
- 1:00:38other two Barry Bonds, Albert Pujols.
- 1:00:41Wow, that's some company. That's pretty good company.
- 1:00:46That is some company and people just like forget or maybe just
- 1:00:55don't respect for some reason how long he's been doing it and
- 1:01:01how good he's been doing it, you know what I mean?
- 1:01:04Well, I. Just like take it for granted.
- 1:01:06I watch. I feel like I take it for
- 1:01:07granted. I'm like just forget how insane
- 1:01:10he is. Yeah, I mean, I was watching the
- 1:01:13the game today, the Phillies and Pirates, because Skeens was on
- 1:01:17the bump in in Philly today. And they're they're doing the
- 1:01:21whole promo like former first overall, first overall picks
- 1:01:28going up against each other. And they're talking about like
- 1:01:29the history of all that, man. I'm sitting there going, my
- 1:01:33goodness, dude, Bryce is like the grizzled vet in this
- 1:01:36situation going up against the the youthful Paul Skeens.
- 1:01:40And I'm like, in my mind, Bryce Harper's still 2325 at most.
- 1:01:47Bro's been doing it for a minute now.
- 1:01:50So I was thinking about the other day because we, we had all
- 1:01:56this talk with the whole Pete Rose Hall of Fame thing.
- 1:01:58And I was like, you know what? I have my own thoughts and
- 1:02:00opinion, opinions about the Hall of Fame.
- 1:02:02But I can't wait to book my ticket to go up there When when
- 1:02:07when Barista Bryce gets inducted.
- 1:02:10Dude, I had the coolest question for you.
- 1:02:15I can't let me see if I wrote it down somewhere.
- 1:02:18I had like a like a I'm so mad at myself.
- 1:02:30I didn't write it down. I had like a fun like baseball
- 1:02:33question. I I don't know what you just
- 1:02:36said that sparked it Free Surprise, no.
- 1:02:40You. You lit up.
- 1:02:42I think it was something about. Hall of Fame, Pete.
- 1:02:46Rose I think it was something or I don't remember what the exact
- 1:02:49question was, but it was something around like the.
- 1:02:57I don't know, something around like your favorite player that's
- 1:02:59not on your favorite team kind of thing, but I don't remember
- 1:03:02what the exact question was. Whatever.
- 1:03:04Was on Jersey related? No, it wasn't Jersey related.
- 1:03:07It was just, I don't know, it was a cooler question than that,
- 1:03:12but that was like the topic of it.
- 1:03:15I mean, I'll be honest with you, this year's not a great, great
- 1:03:20example for that question because I like I'm looking at,
- 1:03:23I'm looking up and down the Red Sox roster.
- 1:03:26I just don't have a favorite guy this year.
- 1:03:28That's a tough place to be. I can just don't like Raffi,
- 1:03:34like even even before all the the drama with with Devers, like
- 1:03:38I just for some reason I could never really like latch onto
- 1:03:41him. I don't know if it's like his
- 1:03:42personality. He's just kind of like goofy and
- 1:03:44aloof. I like, I don't, I don't know if
- 1:03:46that was it, but I could just I was never like, Oh yeah, that's
- 1:03:48like my favorite guy. Like Xander was was my guy.
- 1:03:52Then he obviously heads to San Diego.
- 1:03:53But like this year. Like I Duran doesn't do.
- 1:03:57It yeah, I was, I was literally just about, I guess Duran kind
- 1:03:59of slots in by default, but I don't know.
- 1:04:03And like our guy Liam, friend of the pod, he you know, he was on
- 1:04:08the shelf there for a minute and just hasn't, hasn't had the the
- 1:04:11greatest go of it thus far. But I don't know.
- 1:04:16That is a tough place to be. I know what you mean.
- 1:04:19Don't know if I got a guy this year.
- 1:04:21Fair enough. I'll see if I can remember that
- 1:04:24question. It was a good, it was a good
- 1:04:25question. Maybe you can think on it and
- 1:04:30get back to me tonight during our live stream.
- 1:04:33As as we mentioned, we're doing a live stream tonight.
- 1:04:37We have I think we mentioned it last episode and I've put out a
- 1:04:40a post or two about it reminding you folks.
- 1:04:43But we're doing a live stream tonight for Sunday night
- 1:04:45baseball Mets at Yankees where Nate is going to teach myself
- 1:04:52and anybody that wants to join how to keep score.
- 1:04:54If you already know how to keep score and you just want to hang
- 1:04:56and and. More than welcome.
- 1:04:59Hang, watch some baseball chat, join in the chat with some other
- 1:05:04baseball fans. The more the merrier so.
- 1:05:08Hop on in. We'll be getting on probably
- 1:05:10like 6:45 Eastern. It's like, what is that for you
- 1:05:15three 45645 Eastern man, that's early for you.
- 1:05:21Holy cow. Yeah, that's such a weird.
- 1:05:24Time. I love it.
- 1:05:26I love, I love, I love a Sunday that doesn't get late, you know
- 1:05:31what I mean? Like a Sunday night that's just
- 1:05:33real slow eases in Sunday nights are great your.
- 1:05:38Sunday night baseball game is ending at 7:00.
- 1:05:41That's the best. It's the best.
- 1:05:44It's the. Freaking best dude.
- 1:05:47It's like it ends and you're just like perfect, like you.
- 1:05:50Want to watch a movie and. Get a couple episodes of a show
- 1:05:53in like, yes, absolutely. I'm in.
- 1:05:56I'm in sweats and comfies real early.
- 1:05:59But this won't this won't be our our only time doing this.
- 1:06:03We're going to try and do this once a month.
- 1:06:05So if you're busy tonight and and you can't hang, that's cool
- 1:06:08too. But like we are going to try and
- 1:06:11we don't know if it's solidified as once a month, but we're going
- 1:06:13to try our best to do it a few more times and make sure you got
- 1:06:19your books. We're going to hop on a little
- 1:06:22early. I'm going to kind of walk you
- 1:06:23through just, you know, some things you're going to need to
- 1:06:26know before first pitch. So then again, if I don't know
- 1:06:32everything, like I'm not, I don't keep score every day.
- 1:06:35So if you're in there and you know how to keep book and you're
- 1:06:38like, hey, actually, it's, you know, I find this to be a little
- 1:06:41easier or I do it this way, you're going to see you'll learn
- 1:06:44Kyle that like it's very customized in a way.
- 1:06:47Certain things are just this is how you do it.
- 1:06:48And then a lot of other stuff is like AI prefer this.
- 1:06:52So there's there's some opinions you can share on it.
- 1:06:56And yeah, we're hanging out and we have fun.
- 1:07:00So it might be a stupid question, but I'm assuming bring
- 1:07:03pencil, correct? Yeah, yeah, I was going to say
- 1:07:07that if, if you're not super confident, if this is your first
- 1:07:10time, I would probably recommend a pencil.
- 1:07:14If you've been doing it a while, your a pen is you know, nothing
- 1:07:17wrong with that. And if you really like to be
- 1:07:23organized, my wife likes to have multiple colored pens for each
- 1:07:28team. So if you want to have because
- 1:07:31you're going to flip that book back and forth, one for each
- 1:07:34each team. And if you like to kind of make
- 1:07:35sure that your eyes are going to the right page, you can use a
- 1:07:38color for a certain team. And yeah, so be prepared.
- 1:07:43Love it. Yeah, that's all I got.
