- 1:10Hey, welcome back to the show everybody after an unexpected
- 1:14unplanned hiatus or brief break from from last week.
- 1:18So if you're tuning in and it is now the the second week in
- 1:22November, we initially had plans to bring on Sean and Elise from
- 1:26Aussie and the Jupiter on last week's episode, which also
- 1:31happened to land on winter nights when we were planning on
- 1:34recording in the day after releasing that episode.
- 1:37But as it turns out, because of those heathen celebrations and
- 1:42and that that major holy tide for us dramatic heathens, it
- 1:45being the the start of the new dramatic year, things just
- 1:49didn't work out rightfully. So we postponed it till next
- 1:53season. So stick around for one of the
- 1:55first few episodes of season 7 when we bring Sean and Elise
- 2:01from Ozzy and the Jupiter on the show here.
- 2:02So very much looking forward to that.
- 2:05But as you probably have noticed by now, hopefully if you're
- 2:09watching this on Patreon already, then you then you know
- 2:12my presence on the other social platforms has been removed.
- 2:18I've I've I've pretty much just stepped away entirely from
- 2:22posting on Facebook and Instagram and YouTube and it's
- 2:26been great. So if you're listening to this
- 2:28and you're not aware of that, this is your kind of awareness

- 2:43He's not been posting for a while.
- 2:45That's why. So if you want to follow me with
- 2:48the visuals, right, with videos and and other things, I'm doing
- 2:52it strictly on patreonpatreon.com/midgard

- 2:57content that I would post elsewhere, but it's, it's when
- 3:00you come over here and you pledge a dollar for support.
- 3:03So that's when you get all the video stuff.
- 3:05I will still share like articles and blogs that I write for free
- 3:10because it's knowledge. It's it's, you know, it's out
- 3:12here. Anybody can access it.
- 3:14I mean, in terms of the, the visual experience and who I have
- 3:16on the show as guests. If you want to support what I do
- 3:19and watch these episodes in addition to listening to them,
- 3:22that $1.00 pledge does go a long way.
- 3:25And Speaking of the, the, you know, the absence from, from
- 3:29social media, I did get a really a really nice call from a
- 3:34listener who I'm going to just play the recording right now
- 3:38because whenever you guys call into the podcast, the, the
- 3:41number is 615-671-9832 and you leave a voicemail.
- 3:46I'd like to hear your voice. If you have thoughts or
- 3:47something that you want to share like like Sarah here did, we're
- 3:51going to listen to what Sarah had to say because it was really
- 3:54nice. And I just want to say thank
- 3:55you. So here we go.
- 3:56Hi, I'm Sarah O'Brien. I used to follow you on Facebook
- 3:59and I totally get it. I left Facebook for my health
- 4:03too. And I just want to thank you for
- 4:05your wonderful work and just for the poetry that you used to
- 4:10post. And I just want to leave you a
- 4:13message and wish you farewell and God's bless and thank you.
- 4:20Bye. Sarah was a fan of the poetry.
- 4:25I did some alliterative type poetry with the rune poems.
- 4:30And yeah, so Sarah, you're welcome.
- 4:32And again, I'm still here. So if you're happen to listen to
- 4:35this on Spotify or any of the other audio platforms, just come

- 4:47hopefully. If not, that's cool.
- 4:49You can still listen and enjoy the show that way.
- 4:52All right, so we're going to be bringing on a guest here today,
- 4:55a listener who, as I understand, has been catching my stuff since
- 4:59around season 5 S almost 2 full seasons now.
- 5:04He is in the Ohio region, goes by the name Schizo Crow.
- 5:11And great to have you on the show, man.
- 5:13Thanks for being here. Welcome.
- 5:14You can go ahead and unmute yourself there.
- 5:21Sorry, I don't know if I got you muted there.
- 5:24Let's try this. Yeah, try, try speaking now.
- 5:29Should be like a little button there.
- 5:37We'll get it. Folks, I'm bad.
- 5:38With. There he is.
- 5:39There he is, yeah. Yeah.
- 5:42Sorry about that. All right, these controls that
- 5:44they give us for these virtual studios are dynamic in some ways
- 5:48and bullshit in the other because I can mute you, but I
- 5:50can't unmute. You have to, like, accept the
- 5:53unmute request, which is gnarly. Yeah.
- 5:55Anyway, this is Schizo Crow, and he's in Ohio, so welcome to the
- 5:59show, man. Thanks for being here.
- 6:01Thank you for having me. It's.
- 6:04Good to be here. And so you are in Ohio and I
- 6:09don't know, are you getting the same like we just got, I'm in
- 6:11Middle Tennessee and I just, we just got like winter showed up
- 6:14all of a sudden today. It was like 30° with a wind
- 6:17chill, you know, of like 20 something.
- 6:21I don't know how it is up there in Ohio, but what's it been like
- 6:24up there for you? Have you have you finally
- 6:25started feeling winter yet? Or is it still kind of that late
- 6:28in the summer? Yeah, we got 3 inches.
- 6:32Oh yeah, snow today. Yeah, overnight.
- 6:37And it was about maybe like mid 20s all day.
- 6:42And then the sun poked out for a little bit, but it's, it's,
- 6:48it's, it's winter so far today all it's, it's yesterday it was
- 6:53like 60° and now it's now winter all of a sudden.
- 6:58That's Ohio, though. We have a saying in Ohio.
- 7:02If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes, they'll change.
- 7:09Oddly, is a similar theme here in the in Middle Tennessee.
- 7:13This area of the state is very bipolar.
- 7:17You know, we've had thunderstorms and tornadoes in
- 7:21February Like it yeah, you know, Thunder snow, they call it.
- 7:26And but here in this area, it's it it doesn't, it doesn't really
- 7:29ever snow a lot. It's mostly just cold and icy.
- 7:33You know, further E higher elevations.
- 7:35They'll they'll get snow. I think as a matter of fact, out
- 7:37east today they got like, I don't know, I saw some charts
- 7:40that said they, they, that some areas were expecting an 88
- 7:44inches to a foot of snow accumulation up there.
- 7:47So, but I'm originally from New York.
- 7:50So when I come down here and I've been, I've been down here
- 7:51for like 20 years now and it's, you know, the, every year it's
- 7:55the same thing. People get all, they lose their
- 7:57minds when it's, you know, a flurry starts falling down.
- 8:01I'm like, it'll be all right. It'll be gone before you know
- 8:03it. You know, where I'm from it, it,
- 8:05you know, it's snow now, this time of year.
- 8:07And then it would never, it wouldn't fully melt until the
- 8:09springtime. You'd have snow on the ground
- 8:12all winter long. That's how Ohio, yeah.
- 8:16Yeah. Not as severe as New York, but
- 8:19that that's how Ohio is. We just have snow for like 4
- 8:24months straight. Yeah, well, it also depends
- 8:29cause I've been all over the country in Ohio.
- 8:30I used to be in Ohio a lot. You know, southern Ohio closer
- 8:33to Kentucky is more like that. But then the further up north
- 8:36you go close to Michigan, you know, Toledo and up that away.
- 8:39Yeah, yeah. You guys can get some.
- 8:42You guys can get some pretty dicey winters from my
- 8:44recollection. Oh yeah.
- 8:48So you're a you're a Midwesterner Ohio native.
- 8:51Is that, is that your home state?
- 8:52Is that where you're from? Yep.
- 8:55Yeah. Cool.
- 8:57And you've you've been sorry. Go ahead.
- 9:02Born and raised. Born and raised.
- 9:04OK, what's that team up? Is it the Buckeyes?
- 9:09Is that what it is? Buckeyes.
- 9:12Yeah. I don't know, I'm not a big
- 9:13sports, sports guy, but I feel like that's the one of the
- 9:17sports teams up there. But so you're an Ohio native and
- 9:21you are a Pagan yourself, a proclaimed Pagan of about 15 or
- 9:27so years is what you were about. And I think recently you said
- 9:32you, you kind of found your way back into the Norse variety of,
- 9:38of paganism. So I was wondering, would you
- 9:41mind like giving us a little bit of your background, like what
- 9:43where your origins of paganism started with and when and what
- 9:47kind of where you, you know, where your journeys brought you
- 9:51in paganism, where it started, where it brought you and, and
- 9:53where you're at now? When I when I was younger, I, I,
- 10:02I tried my best to be Christian and it just never felt right.
- 10:08Never the whole 1st 18 years of my life.
- 10:13It just, it just didn't feel right.
- 10:14I didn't feel it, you know, and once I discovered that I didn't
- 10:21have to do that. I could be religious without
- 10:25being religious. I just like, I don't know, I
- 10:29felt it with paganism originally Wiccan and I found, I found
- 10:36Wiccan and I, I really felt something with that.
- 10:40And I was like, I just, I latched to it.
- 10:44It just, it just felt right. And then I found the Greek gods
- 10:54and I for the last, for probably close to a decade, I've followed
- 11:02the Greek gods and had to start and restart my path because of
- 11:08misinformation and my own naivety.
- 11:12And maybe 4-4 years ago I I heard, I heard a female voice
- 11:26tell me you're a Norseman. It's time to act like it.
- 11:31And I meditated on it for hours in the coming weeks.
- 11:36And I just made the decision like it's let's, let's do it.
- 11:42Go all in. Start from the very beginning,
- 11:46start from scratch and work my way back up to, you know, like
- 11:54doing my own research, reading books, collecting information,
- 12:01and then researching that information.
- 12:04So I can't stress enough, do your research.
- 12:09Anyone listening don't. Do not trust.
- 12:14Don't trust people, but don't blindly trust people if that
- 12:19makes any sense. Yeah, no, I think you know, when
- 12:23it, when it comes to any sort of path that you feel convicted in
- 12:27or any sort of the direction that you feel drawn to, knowing
- 12:32what you're doing, knowing what you're taught, knowing, knowing
- 12:34the source of things, you know what I mean?
- 12:36Knowing where it comes from, knowing what information is good
- 12:38information and knowing and, you know, knowing how to identify
- 12:41good versus bad. And what that looks like,
- 12:44especially in a Pagan context, 'cause I think if you've got,
- 12:47you know, 15 years of, of being Pagan and it's a mixed bag of,
- 12:51you know, Wicca and then, you know, Hellenistic and then
- 12:54Norse, you know, you've got a, you got a variety of things that
- 12:57you've done. But like one of the, one of the
- 13:00recurring themes that I see happening in, in a lot of Pagan
- 13:05circles is, is this kind of overarching attitude of, you
- 13:09know, you're doing it wrong or you're not doing it right, or
- 13:13you know what is right, what is wrong, what is, you know,
- 13:15exactly that. So that's a whole conversation
- 13:17to get into with with that as well.
- 13:20I think research and knowing your sources and all that has a
- 13:24place kind of in that conversation, right?
- 13:28Right, yeah. And I think I think research
- 13:33should be as important as venerating the gods and
- 13:38ancestors and whatever else you venerate, because research is
- 13:45how you connect with them on like a deeper level.
- 13:51The the more you research, the more connected you are to your
- 13:58higher powers. I was when you said earlier that
- 14:03you kind of started off in Wicca and that was, you know, 15 or
- 14:08more years ago. I hear that a lot from, like,
- 14:12that seems to be like the most easily researchable or
- 14:15accessible or, I don't know, the most popular version of Paganism
- 14:19'cause there's, you know, dozens or hundreds of, you know,
- 14:22different varieties of Paganism. Every culture has had their
- 14:29Pagan era, you know what I mean? You know, So it's interesting.
- 14:33That's where you started, like so many others.
- 14:36And then you said that you heard a female voice.
- 14:40I wanted to maybe ask you a little bit about that.
- 14:43Do you remember what the like, can you like tell us what was
- 14:47happening, where you were, what you were doing when you heard
- 14:51this voice? Was it during a ritual?
- 14:52Was it at a private, you know, were you asleep?
- 14:55Was it a dream? Like, could you describe a
- 14:57little bit more about that, that moment in time that kind of
- 15:00brought you to this awareness to pursue Norse paganism?
- 15:07It's actually kind of a funny story.
- 15:10We were. Me and my brother and I were
- 15:13driving. We used to live farther away
- 15:18than we do now, like an hour away from like everyone that we
- 15:23know. And we were driving up to, we
- 15:29were driving up to his mom's, my adopted mom.
- 15:34And I just remember hearing the voice on the road as he was
- 15:41driving. And I don't remember repeatedly
- 15:44hitting him in the arm and saying, I got to be Norse Pagan,
- 15:51like, out of the blue. And he's like, what are you
- 15:54going on about? And I explained it to him, and
- 16:00he said, yeah, you heard. You heard a goddess.
- 16:03And I was like, I know I did, didn't I?
- 16:08So is he or was he at the time, did he have any like awareness
- 16:11or understanding or is he Pagan himself?
- 16:13Like is there was there any connection with him and in that
- 16:16path too for him to be like? He's Christian.
- 16:22He's experimented with paganism and Wicca, but he's supportive
- 16:27at the same time. Very, very supportive.
- 16:31That's cool. Yeah, Yeah, 'cause when you
- 16:34mentioned that you, you know, couldn't find, like it never
- 16:37felt right for you Christianity, it almost begs the question as a
- 16:41follow up, like was that a, was that a very present place in, in
- 16:47your youth growing up? Like where you're, was it a
- 16:49family, a Christian family, 'cause that's where I came from,
- 16:52was a family of Christians. You know, everybody back as far
- 16:55as I know, in my family were some sort of Christian, whether
- 16:59Catholic, Protestant, whatever, you know what I mean?
- 17:02Like they were something like that.
- 17:04So even RE and paganism was not part of our family's traditions
- 17:09immediately family traditions. So did you grow up in
- 17:12Christianity or was that like just something that was around
- 17:14you and you just never felt that home with it?
- 17:17I grew up Baptist. OK.
- 17:21Yeah, and it's just I've, I've gone to maybe 5 or 6 different
- 17:29denominations in my youth just trying to feel it and it never,
- 17:35never felt like it should. It never felt like it never felt
- 17:40like Paganism does. Yeah.
- 17:43It just never felt right. It just, I couldn't feel the,
- 17:48the, the spirit, you know? And man, I did.
- 17:55I did. I like when I was maybe 1819, I
- 18:02participated in a ritual for the first time.
- 18:07Goosebumps head to toe, like I felt it everywhere.
- 18:15My aura was like buzzing. I really felt.
- 18:23Yeah. What was it?
- 18:24A was it like a a Wiccan ceremony or was it a heathen
- 18:29like a Norse or dramatic heathen thing?
- 18:31Do you remember what, what, what?
- 18:33The celebration? It was a OK ceremony.
- 18:39Yeah, I've been one. I've been to 1 around.
- 18:43Oh gosh, what was it? It was the end of summer, so I
- 18:50guess it was probably close around to like the autumnal
- 18:53equinox. And I was, I was on a, some
- 18:58property up down in Dunlap, TN and the ceremony was very
- 19:05Wiccan, but it was like an older old school or, or old ways style
- 19:11of a Wicca. Not this like modern Wicca.
- 19:13True, like Wicca, you know what I mean?
- 19:15Like not the modern fluffy Bunny stuff.
- 19:18It was very, it was done in a very like they were calling,
- 19:20they weren't calling the four quarters.
- 19:21They were calling like all 8, you know, Northwest, southwest,
- 19:25this, that and the other. And they were doing a whole
- 19:26thing with it. Really beautiful to see, you
- 19:30know, people who knew what they were doing with this work, with
- 19:33this ritual work to, to lead in that ceremony.
- 19:36So I get what you're saying, you know what those types of things
- 19:40feel like and how that can be like a like, it's a real call.
- 19:44You know what I mean? Like it's a vibration that you
- 19:46can't ignore. Yeah, right.
- 19:51Was that in Ohio then when you when you went to that as well?
- 19:55Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was a friend of mine that was
- 20:01actually in the coven and invited me to to the ritual.
- 20:06Nice Was the do you remember which?
- 20:08Because they did they do them? I don't know, like I don't know
- 20:11too much about the Wiccan path. Maybe you can illuminate me
- 20:14about, I know you have, there's 8 sabbats, right?
- 20:18So you have eight major holidays or whatever that you do.
- 20:22They do that. They did stuff on.
- 20:23Was it one of the Sabbats that you were invited to?
- 20:27Or was it just like, oh, we're just going to do a random full
- 20:30moon thing or new moon thing or what, whatever.
- 20:35This is the most important freaking holiday.
- 20:38October 31st, that one. Yep.
- 20:42Yep, man, I'll tell you what, I don't care what Pagan kite you
- 20:46are. Anything done around that time
- 20:48of year 'cause I know salon's like a fixed calendar date with
- 20:53the the Norse and the dramatic old ways.
- 20:55Everything is Luna solar. So our our celebrations that
- 20:59happen around the same time of year.
- 21:01As you know, Celtic salon or the wicked celebration of it is
- 21:06winter nights. A lot of times winter nights
- 21:08will fall around or sometimes on the same one of the same day,
- 21:13like sound will fall in and then winter nights will fall either
- 21:16within a week or on the same week or the week after of it.
- 21:19So anyways, that that time of year, a lot of activity, a lot
- 21:25of things going on in the spirit room.
- 21:27You know, they say the veil is thinnest time of year.
- 21:32So, yeah, it's no wonder to me that you said that and you felt
- 21:36what you felt at that time 'cause it's, it's a very active,
- 21:39very, you know, high vibration type time, time of year for
- 21:44sure. I picked a really good time to
- 21:47go to a ritual, I'll tell you that.
- 21:50Yeah, it wasn't like, let's dip your toes in, let's see what you
- 21:54like. No, it's like here, just jump
- 21:55in, dig, you know, into the deep end, head 1st and sink or swim
- 21:59kind of thing. I go bigger, go home, I do
- 22:03everything gnarly. It's just how it is.
- 22:08I mean that's that, you know, that's that's definitely you
- 22:10gonna you gonna what's the the term, you know, F around and
- 22:12find out Faffo, it's you know, you, you're not going to find
- 22:15out unless you fuck around. Oh, I've I've done a lot of
- 22:19that. Yeah, so that's really cool,
- 22:23man, that you your first real Pagan ceremony or ritual was at
- 22:27at such an important holy tide for for Wiccans and other pagans
- 22:31too. That's really cool.
- 22:33Yeah. So was that that was that before
- 22:37or after you heard you're a Norseman that that voice that
- 22:41you that you heard was that so that was that before that?
- 22:44And if so, how far before that, if you can remember?
- 22:47Oh. That was, let's see, I was 18.
- 22:54I'm 34 now. OK, so yeah, and and you heard
- 23:01that, that voice when. Four years.
- 23:05Ago. Four years ago.
- 23:06Oh, OK. So, yeah, so. 1.
- 23:12Good little good, good, good bit of time has passed since then.
- 23:16Now were you a practicing Wiccan or any of it?
- 23:19Like was, was that, was that what you would call yourself?
- 23:21Were you, were you a Wiccan practitioner, practitioner of
- 23:23Wicca before you kind of found yourself or did you not really
- 23:27associate with any labels? I was I was Wiccan for maybe 3
- 23:33or 4 years. Yeah.
- 23:35Before I the Greek gods and goddesses OK and then I I was a
- 23:41practitioner of paganism for the Greek deities for a long time,
- 23:50probably maybe a decade is close to.
- 23:58Yeah. Do you, do you remember what it
- 24:03was that kind of sparked your interest to pursuing the Greek
- 24:08gods and, and that whole mythology and, and, and
- 24:13practices of things? Do you remember what it was that
- 24:15kind of drew your interest to that?
- 24:17Well, I've always been, I've always been a fan of Greek
- 24:20mythology. I, I took a course, I took a
- 24:23semester of it in high school. I, I, I, I, I just, as a kid, I
- 24:30just remember seeing things like the Hercules movies, you know,
- 24:36like different God of War games and just different, different
- 24:42things that have drawn me in that direction.
- 24:44Like at that point in time and over, over the course of that
- 24:52almost maybe 8 years, I had just, you know, wanted to absorb
- 25:00as much as I could, but the sources weren't exactly the most
- 25:06credible I could find because I'm not, I'm not, I'm
- 25:10technologically inept. I can't, I'm on a tablet that I
- 25:14can barely use and barely use my phone.
- 25:18It's. All good, man.
- 25:22Yes. Interesting.
- 25:26Yeah. You know, there's a.
- 25:26There's a lot of that nowadays that people find themselves.
- 25:29So it's like it was back in the day, you know, you had to go to
- 25:33a library, you had to, you know, open a physical book and sit and
- 25:37spend time in between its pages to, to learn anything.
- 25:40And now, you know, people walking around, we all got these
- 25:43mini computers in our hands and it's, you know, how, how valid
- 25:48or how true and how accurate is the information that we're
- 25:51looking at in real time? How, how truly accurate is that?
- 25:59And, and the ease of accessibility to knowledge, to
- 26:02information, I guess really is the is the more accurate way of
- 26:05saying it, because knowledge is, is you know, you have to work
- 26:08for that, you have to, you can learn anything, but is it the
- 26:13right thing? Exactly with with the ease of
- 26:19gaining information, you also have ease of spreading
- 26:24information. So it's like you, you can easily
- 26:30spread misinformation nowadays. It's like you really have to
- 26:37like I, I, you're propped up by a book.
- 26:39I'm the book I'm reading right now on my altar.
- 26:44So with that, that's just the power of gems and crystals, how
- 26:52they can transform real life. Gotcha.
- 26:56Yeah. Cool, You do a lot of stonework,
- 27:01gem works, crystal work still like is that is that a part of
- 27:04your? I guess we could say hearth
- 27:06cultic individual cultic practice, hearth cult.
- 27:10Honestly, it's it's something new to me and it called me, it
- 27:16called to me at a store and I I bought it, it just it called
- 27:21out. Yeah, it it just, it just it
- 27:27reached out and said hey, so I was like OK, and I bought it.
- 27:32So yeah, I'm. Just starting, that's the best
- 27:36way I think to really, that's the best way to learn honestly.
- 27:40You know, there's, there's been a lot of examples that I've
- 27:44encountered myself. Maybe you have to where like
- 27:50certain authors or certain publications or certain
- 27:53websites, but people will say, don't look at that, don't read
- 27:57that. And it's like, well, why not?
- 28:02Why? Why are you trying to prevent me
- 28:03from finding out myself, Right. And it used to be a little bit I
- 28:08used to tell people, man, don't buy this book by so and so
- 28:10because it's trash, because it's garbage.
- 28:12And I'm like, OK, that's that's an object, that's an opinion.
- 28:16And maybe my opinion is rooted in valid reasons why, but also
- 28:21why should you take my word for how shitty something is?
- 28:24Find out for yourself, learn for yourself.
- 28:26If anything, you're going to learn something from that,
- 28:29right? Yeah, the best example of that
- 28:33that I can think of is the story of the Mad Arab.
- 28:37I don't know if you know the Necronomicon.
- 28:40Oh, but oh. Yeah, dude.
- 28:42Oh yeah. In the other room and I haven't
- 28:48got I haven't gotten to get back to it yet, but I've got so many
- 28:53books on my To Do List. But but yeah, that that that
- 29:00book people will. I've heard read, read, read.
- 29:04I've heard a void, A void, A void.
- 29:06I've heard burn it all. I everything around that book,
- 29:11like it's such a split, hot, cold, like there is no in
- 29:17between with that book. People either love it or they
- 29:21hate it. Wow.
- 29:25I in my experience, I don't know about you, but in my experience,
- 29:29people either like, adore that book or they just abhor it.
- 29:35Yeah, there's certain authors and there's certain even like
- 29:38you talk about, you know, the ease of information and, and
- 29:41we'll, we'll, we'll include people that create content, you
- 29:45know, so, so online nowadays, I mean, every time you can go on
- 29:49TikTok, I don't know if you are, but I'm not.
- 29:51But I mean people like the, the, the, the, the insurgents of
- 29:55Pagan, quote UN quote experts that came to TikTok when that
- 29:58platform blew up was like crazy. Like there were, there were
- 30:02people that just, you know, I had a dream or I read a book or
- 30:07I just got this Mueller. I heard this voice and next
- 30:10thing you know, they're like, I'm telling you about how to do
- 30:13things like these, these so-called experts or, or leaders
- 30:17in in modern Pagan movements. I'm like, who are you and and
- 30:21what, what is your background and where are you coming from
- 30:23with this? Like it's one thing to just
- 30:26casually talk about something, but to come to it from a place
- 30:29of authority and to like, listen to me, you know, follow what I'm
- 30:35saying. It's like.
- 30:37Yeah, self adorned authority. Like I'm, you know what I'm
- 30:42talking about because I read a book once.
- 30:45Like, no you don't. Nice book.
- 30:48I mean it's. Three.
- 30:48Yeah, you read a book, read another one and another one and
- 30:54another one, then come talk to them and then apply.
- 30:59Your knowledge that you got right.
- 31:00Like and then do the work. Like don't just let it live in
- 31:03the pages of a book. Like let it live through what
- 31:05you do that. Was going to end life and come
- 31:10talk to me. Yeah.
- 31:14Do you have any like, like, you know, 'cause you, you were, you
- 31:18were pretty fired up about this when you said it to me.
- 31:22You were like, man, you know, I've had to like one of the
- 31:24things you said in the e-mail was like, I had to, I'm
- 31:27paraphrasing this, but it was something along the lines like
- 31:29you had to, you've had to start your journey from scratch
- 31:31multiple times because of misinformation or reading.
- 31:39And I'm, I don't know, I wanted to ask you, was it like what,
- 31:41what was like? Can you share like what that
- 31:44experience is like? Like what, what made you finally
- 31:47realize that you were being LED in the wrong direction so many
- 31:50times that you said, you have to, I have to like reboot.
- 31:53I have to start all over again because here I am again being,
- 31:56going down this wrong path. Like what was that experience
- 31:59like for you and what brought you to the place that you
- 32:02realized I'm I'm being LED astray again?
- 32:07I have a lot, I have a lot of like positive information, like
- 32:11correct information, but I also have a lot of incorrect
- 32:16information. So when I switched from, when I
- 32:20switched from the Greek to the Norse pantheons, that's when I
- 32:24really sat down and meditated on it.
- 32:26And I said when I, when I started this, I have to, I had
- 32:30to start nothing. I have to take everything that I
- 32:34had, put it aside for a second and just start as a newcomer to
- 32:42the Norse Panther. That's really when I was like,
- 32:45that's the last time that I was like, I'm, I'm starting over one
- 32:51more time and I'm doing it right.
- 32:56And I have to, I have to do it the right way.
- 33:00And yeah, the right way. Me doing the research, reading
- 33:09the books. Finding the correct.
- 33:12People to follow, making the right connections, read, you
- 33:19know, listening to the right podcasts, watching.
- 33:22The right YouTube. Videos like.
- 33:27Yeah, what like what were some of the?
- 33:32What were some of like the? If you can remember like.
- 33:37Red flags or green flags like what were the, what were the
- 33:40negative and the positive things that people that you and your
- 33:45newness like when you when you settled on, OK, I'm approaching
- 33:48Norse heathen right now, Norse paganism.
- 33:51I'm approaching it as a newcomer.
- 33:52I'm not trying to carry baggage from other places with me into
- 33:56this, which we can talk about a bit because I think there's a
- 33:58place for that in this conversation, right?
- 34:00Baggage that we carry with us and, you know, programmed ways
- 34:06of thinking our world views, how that informs our religiosity and
- 34:11our spirituality. But firstly I wanted to ask
- 34:14like, were there certain things that kind of stood out to you in
- 34:17both negative and positive ways about how people presented
- 34:21themselves? Like was there a certain thing
- 34:23that when you saw it, you're like, that's not the path I want
- 34:26to go down. Or when you or heard something
- 34:28else, you're like, ah, now I can probably that, that that piques
- 34:31my interest. I want to pay attention a little
- 34:33bit more to what they're saying. Like do you have any examples or
- 34:35anything like that that you can recall?
- 34:40I. Have a green flag.
- 34:42Honestly, and I'm not trying to brown nose here, but you were
- 34:48the first green flag on my journey.
- 34:52As far as like. Like I hate using this word, but
- 34:57as far as like online kind of influencers, no.
- 35:02You were the first green flag. That I had on my journey I was
- 35:08just trying to, you know, figure out what I was doing with this
- 35:15on on this journey, what heathenism is and your.
- 35:21Your podcast. Is really helped with that.
- 35:25I appreciate that man. And, and, and maybe just maybe
- 35:28this is a little bit selfish, but I think it's good to dive a
- 35:32little bit into this part of it for the listeners that are maybe
- 35:35new to, to what I do. Do you remember what, like what
- 35:40was there? Was there an episode?
- 35:42Was there a clip? Was there a specific piece of
- 35:46content that you saw from me that made you think, I think
- 35:51this guy is worth listening to or paying attention to?
- 35:55Was there something very specific that kind of hooked you
- 35:59into continuing to listen or watch what I do?
- 36:05I had almost. Found you early in season 5 and
- 36:13I cannot for the life of me remember what exactly the
- 36:18episode was, but you were speaking.
- 36:23You were so low in that episode, and I just was listening and I
- 36:28was like, he? Knows what he's talking about.
- 36:32Like you can hear. It in your.
- 36:34Tone. You can hear it in your passion.
- 36:36You can like you. Can feel.
- 36:40Like, this guy knows what he's saying and he believes every bit
- 36:45of it. It's not just, oh, I'm going to
- 36:48get online and, you know, spout some whatever and no, you really
- 36:57feel what you're saying and I can feel it.
- 37:03I appreciate it. Agree with me.
- 37:07Well, I'm going to. I'm going to.
- 37:09Kind of enlighten you as to the reason why I'm asking this
- 37:12because I'm not asking it for me, OK I I'm I'm not asking you
- 37:17to like what what this is not is like Oh yes, yes.
- 37:22Schizo. Tell me how much you loved what
- 37:25I do Yes. Feed me grapes.
- 37:27No, no, no, no, it's nothing like that.
- 37:28What it is is like, OK, you heard you I'm a random person
- 37:34that you came across from whatever means right you you
- 37:36found a video you heard of podcasts you whatever it came
- 37:40through algorithm did what it was supposed to do and it put it
- 37:43what I was doing in front of you and you said OK, this guy he's
- 37:46talking with he's talking with passion he's talking with
- 37:51authority. He sees he's he's being he has
- 37:54conviction in what he's saying. And the reason why I was asking
- 37:57like, what were some of these things that that stood out to
- 37:59you is because if I'm doing it, is it are, are these things that
- 38:06others should be looking for 'cause I'm not the only one out
- 38:09here, you know, I'm not going to be the only one out here
- 38:11forever. So like, what would we be some
- 38:14things for people to, to pay attention to or to look for in
- 38:18this landscape of content creators where there's, you
- 38:22know, they're a dime a dozen. They're they're out here, you
- 38:25know, stitching videos, whatever the hell that means and
- 38:29duetting, you know, and, and responding to this and that.
- 38:33And I go in this age. Of just.
- 38:36Like short form content where people can only like their
- 38:39attention span the show so short to be hooked in by a phrase or a
- 38:45scene or something in a short period of time.
- 38:48What is it about the character of a person that can kind of?
- 38:54Like plant a seed. Into in in in somebody's mind to
- 38:59be like, I want to hear more of what they.
- 39:01Have to say. You know, so that's that's why
- 39:07I. Asked it man that.
- 39:08That's why I wanted to know, like, was it maybe, you know, a
- 39:12topic that I was talking about or it was, you know, a guest
- 39:15that I had on? I know you already said it was a
- 39:17solo thing, but yeah, that's why I was.
- 39:21Asking I, I. Don't, I don't need the, I don't
- 39:24need the gas and I don't need you to gas me up or anything
- 39:26like that. But I appreciate you you saying
- 39:29it nonetheless. So, so yeah, like in your
- 39:38experience for the last, we'll say 15 plus years, OK, being
- 39:45online, watching or listening to other people, what would you
- 39:49think or why do you think I guess is the better question,
- 39:52like why do you think that there are so many?
- 39:55I'll I'll put in air quotes leaders.
- 39:57OK, people that want to lead by example, they want to be out
- 40:01here in the limelight. They want to, they have a voice,
- 40:03they want to say something, right.
- 40:05Why do you think there are so many of these people in modern
- 40:07Pagan communities that end up misleading others?
- 40:11Like is it, is it their ego? Is it their ignorance or is it
- 40:14something totally different, do you think?
- 40:17I think it's a number. Of things.
- 40:20It depends on the person. It might just be like it might.
- 40:24Just be ignorance for some. People they, they think that
- 40:28what they're saying is right, when in fact they've just not
- 40:33done the proper homework to be able to have that kind of say.
- 40:41In the. Entire Pagan community and
- 40:44people will follow that person in droves as opposed.
- 40:49To. Someone like I don't know you
- 40:55or. I can get my phone and.
- 41:00List a couple of names, but like.
- 41:03People. In the community who are really
- 41:05putting out positive, informed content that's.
- 41:12That's what we should be. Looking for is people that know
- 41:15what they're talking about people you know know what
- 41:19they're talking about, people with, you know, credentials to
- 41:24back it up, maybe not college credentials, but like people
- 41:29who. Have really put.
- 41:30Time into this, that's what. That's what people should be
- 41:33looking for when they look. For a content.
- 41:36Creator Somebody who's really put the time in like I'm I'm not
- 41:40even there yet and I've. I've been.
- 41:46I've been trying. For.
- 41:48You know, over a decade and a half to try and figure it out.
- 41:53But I'm like I said, I'm just, I'm just starting again.
- 41:58So I'm. Yeah, I don't mean to.
- 42:02Cut you off. I think it's, I think it's, I
- 42:03think one thing that's worth considering when you talk about
- 42:07tenure, right? Because I've, I've even, I've
- 42:10even made this observation myself.
- 42:13You know, we we're. Or at least I've been.
- 42:17Exposed. To audiences and and people,
- 42:21right, Whether it's colleagues, peers in my community.
- 42:27That are. They're all about my respect,
- 42:30your elders. And there's this.
- 42:33There's this. Heightened awareness to and
- 42:36people that have a lot of years under their belt or miles behind
- 42:41their tires that have been around for a very long period of
- 42:43time are somehow automatically entitled to respect and you know
- 42:53this and that and I go, hold on, right?
- 42:56Just because you get older does not mean you automatically
- 42:58become wiser. I have spoken to people who are
- 43:02half my age that we're talking. Circles around me.
- 43:06When it comes to things like philosophy and Gnostic religion
- 43:09and like Gnosticism and various things that I'm like this dude
- 43:14at 1:00. Point in time like I would you.
- 43:15Know dude, this is like probably early days of of when I started
- 43:19creating content and I was talking to a kid at the time he
- 43:21was like 1213 years old and he's like running circles around me
- 43:25talking about things I'm like when I was 12 and. 13 I'm like
- 43:29playing in. The woods shooting my bow and
- 43:30you know, being a kid and he's over here like schooling me on
- 43:33on on book knowledge, you know what I mean?
- 43:36Now I get it. Like experience is a totally it.
- 43:39It's, it's, it's it's own thing. Like I will never stand I, you
- 43:44know, my experience can't be put to the flame of somebody who's
- 43:47twice my age simply because they've had more years to
- 43:51experience things that I have and they're also in the stage of
- 43:54their life that I'm not in. So they're experiencing life at
- 43:57that stage that is different and unique.
- 44:00However, when it comes to like wisdom or, or being a leader of,
- 44:05of, of knowledge, right? Like sharing knowledge and and
- 44:09trying to. As I'm.
- 44:12Growing or as someone is growing is to.
- 44:13Help others grow as well. Like that's something I don't
- 44:17think that can necessarily be measured by how many Gray hairs
- 44:20you have or how many years, how many winters you've lived,
- 44:24right? I think that, you know, you, you
- 44:26talk about, you know, you 15 years as a Pagan or more and you
- 44:32know, I'm 10 years as a heathen solid.
- 44:35Like I, I was Christian for most of my adult life into my early
- 44:4020s. And then I kind of fucked around
- 44:44a little bit and didn't do this, didn't do that.
- 44:46And then I didn't know what I believed in.
- 44:47And then it wasn't until I was, you know, in my early. 30s.
- 44:53That I said. This.
- 44:56This heathen path, right? It's, it's, it's pulling me in a
- 45:00direction. I have to, I have to give
- 45:01attention to this for some reason.
- 45:03And I realized what that reason was.
- 45:05And it took me this time to realize like it, it's ancestral.
- 45:09It's, it's something within me from my ancient roots that is
- 45:13wanting to be awakened and you know.
- 45:18I, I I could. Have people that are twice my
- 45:21age that don't have that degree of wisdom or that degree of
- 45:24knowledge because. They didn't have that.
- 45:29So I guess, you know, when it comes to time and when it comes
- 45:31to measuring things with people and you know, don't your
- 45:38experiences are valid? Like you had experiences and
- 45:40you've had things that you've learned over the 15 years that
- 45:42you've been doing it that are your experiences and anybody
- 45:46else listening or you've had those experience and those are
- 45:49things that you can take with you and and use to grow with,
- 45:56right. So yeah, I went.
- 46:00On a tangent there for a bit. But like, I just wanted to kind
- 46:03of bring that back to you there, schizo, right?
- 46:06Like sure, you've had to, as you say, maybe start over recently
- 46:10with Heathenry, but you still have the last 15 years of Pagan
- 46:17experiences where, you know what is that?
- 46:19That is connecting to divinity within.
- 46:22That is connecting to the spirit that exists in things around us,
- 46:25the land, the the trees, the wind, the water that everything
- 46:29is is contains spirit and then and that's what paganism at
- 46:32large if you want to really kind of try to summarize a.
- 46:37A. An umbrella.
- 46:38Term right? It is existing with with the
- 46:40spirit of nature around us. No matter what other type of you
- 46:45know, Celtic, paganism, Asiatic, you know, Hellenistic, Baltic,
- 46:52Norse, any culture. Yeah.
- 46:59I'm Native American. I mean, bingo, the list goes.
- 47:04On yeah, yeah, it's a you know, and you know you you talked
- 47:08earlier about being at you know, your your first legitimate Pagan
- 47:16ceremony or ritual was was during salon.
- 47:19I don't even have to. I don't even have to know where
- 47:23you were. But I know that you weren't
- 47:25indoors. You were outside.
- 47:28You were in nature. I was.
- 47:30Oh, yeah. I.
- 47:31Was I was in the middle of the. Woods.
- 47:35Yeah. And there was a.
- 47:38Beautiful clearing in the woods, maybe like 2 miles from where we
- 47:45were accelerating after and we just hoofed it and then did.
- 47:51Did our. Ritual and then went back and
- 47:55got really. Hammered.
- 47:58Just because it was. It's kind of one of those things
- 48:02that happen, you know? What I mean you?
- 48:03You, you haloed and you drink meat and you let burn something,
- 48:07probably, you know, Yeah. Well, I've had enough meat for
- 48:13one life's time. Or might beg to differ.
- 48:21Thor must say I'll. Show you a Mead for a.
- 48:23Lifetime as he tries to drink the ocean, Right, Right.
- 48:30I say that with a an Alcoholic Anonymous book 3 feet from me.
- 48:36Yeah, I had a little too. I had a.
- 48:39Little too much. Fun in my 20s.
- 48:43Yeah. So.
- 48:45Well, Hey man, if you know. And that's, that's an important
- 48:48thing too, is like, you know, a lot of a lot of a.
- 48:54Lot of people who I've encountered.
- 48:56In Pagan communities, they at. Least what I've observed.
- 49:04And I don't know, like, have you, I want to ask you this,
- 49:06have you observed people in Pagan communities that you've
- 49:09been around? Who?
- 49:13Gravitate. Towards the community aspect of
- 49:16paganism and then get hooked into the less than healthy
- 49:23lifestyle aspects of it they get really heavy into the drink or
- 49:29they're unfaithful to their partners or you know what I.
- 49:33Mean like there's so many. Of that I've, I've at least been
- 49:36exposed to that type of thing. And then you go, how what are
- 49:39you doing? You know, what is this?
- 49:41This isn't a party culture, you know what I mean?
- 49:44Like have you, have you. I know I'm kind of like feeding
- 49:48you this, but like, have you experienced those things?
- 49:50Have you seen that in your 15 plus years of lot?
- 49:56I've seen a. Lot of it in a very.
- 49:57Community where people people will go a little heavy.
- 50:03On the drink. Yeah.
- 50:06And hey, I've been there. I look I'm.
- 50:08Not trying to like, shame anybody.
- 50:09I mean, I've done that. I've been, I, you know, I've,
- 50:12I've drank too much of that, of that meat.
- 50:15I, you know, I've, I've gone too crazy.
- 50:16I've gone too hard in the paint. And you?
- 50:20Know no shame. But or you?
- 50:25Know the shame. The shame comes when you.
- 50:26Have to learn from it. So yeah, waking up to a spot is.
- 50:30Different than you know. Partying.
- 50:33After yeah, they're. Very different.
- 50:39Yeah. Yeah, it is very different, you
- 50:43know. Knowing.
- 50:46Knowing when the right time and. When the right places for these
- 50:49types of things. I mean, I know you're.
- 50:53Relatively. New with Heathenry of the last,
- 50:57you know, few years. But I'm sure you talk about the
- 51:00importance of research, right? And knowing your sources, what
- 51:04do you think is probably one of the most important?
- 51:09Sources One of the one of the most.
- 51:10Important things to research coming into heathenry if you
- 51:14were to pick like your books, like what do you what would you
- 51:17say is is is important, critical even to research I would say
- 51:25the. First thing.
- 51:27In my mind, the one of the first things that he used to read or
- 51:31listen to is the Hoffman law. That should be high on the list
- 51:39of the first things that you read because I mean for so many
- 51:45reasons, but it's wisdom straight from Odin.
- 51:51The wisest being. We know so.
- 51:57Why not read? That one of your first reads and
- 52:01then and then You should. Start.
- 52:06Where you're comfortable, start. With what you're interested in.
- 52:11And and within. The heating community.
- 52:14Or outside of the heating community, What what are you
- 52:17interested in? What grabs your attention?
- 52:22And then? After that you.
- 52:25Should really. Buckle down and learn what it.
- 52:30Is we are about. Like the sorry.
- 52:40I've been. I've had like.
- 52:43Two hours of sleep. I can't think right now.
- 52:49There the the. Main.
- 52:53Books in the. Heathen community that we read
- 52:57are. Help me out here you.
- 53:04Got the Eddas, you know what I mean?
- 53:05So like you. Know the Poetic Edda, That's
- 53:08where I want to think of. Yeah, yeah, that's what I was
- 53:12trying to think. Of yeah, which the huff them
- 53:15all. Is in Yeah, the Huff them All is
- 53:17the poem in the Poetic Edda. And then, of course, you know,
- 53:21Snorri's Prose Edda, which has a few more poems that are not in
- 53:26the original codex. But it's interesting that you
- 53:31mentioned the haul of them all right, as one of the first
- 53:32things, because as we're, as I, you know, as you and I were both
- 53:36like thinking about experiences that we had where people just
- 53:39get, you know, they get drunk, they get, they get out of sorts.
- 53:42And, and they, you know, and that's something that the haul
- 53:45of them all mentions, you know, like it warns against, you know,
- 53:49having too much to drink and, and, and those sorts of things.
- 53:53So even even in the culture, I guess you could say even in the
- 53:56Norse and, and all of that, like it was not, it was not a
- 54:01honorable thing to get blasted out of your mind on anything, to
- 54:06lose your wits 'cause you behave in ways that could bring
- 54:11dishonor and, you know, just make you a fool.
- 54:15And, and that was your reputation.
- 54:17And it gets shattered because now there's the guy that shows
- 54:21up and drinks all the ale and drinks all the meat, and then
- 54:24you know he's losing his pants and he's being an idiot.
- 54:30Holloman actually warns against that, and also warns against
- 54:37keep an eye on your enemies as closely as you should.
- 54:40Your friends. Yeah, you don't.
- 54:43Walk through a door without. Looking both ways, scanning.
- 54:47Scenarios 'cause you. Never know where 1 might be
- 54:50lurking. And yeah, there's that.
- 54:52There's that practical, there's that practical wisdom.
- 54:56There's some real mystical type, esoteric if you will, later on
- 55:00during like the Runa Mall, where Rosen discovers the mysteries.
- 55:05And. And all those things.
- 55:07But yeah, there's just the practice, like being a good
- 55:09guest, being a good host, being a good person in general, right?
- 55:13Just, you know, practice with other people.
- 55:17Not messing. With other people's.
- 55:19Significant other like there's just so much wisdom packed into
- 55:23such a small space. Yeah, it's like how can you not
- 55:27get through it? It just.
- 55:31Like. It's it's an easier read than
- 55:35most Norse like. Things you could it's.
- 55:43It's an easier read. Yeah, yeah, start.
- 55:46I get what you're saying because it it it read it and I do you
- 55:49have do you have any idea why you think that is?
- 55:52I'm was going to ask you like, do you think why the haul of
- 55:54them all tends to be one of the more widely suggested pieces of
- 55:59reading material for newer heathens or for people just
- 56:02getting into reading? Like why do you think that the
- 56:04haul of them all tends to be like high on the list of things?
- 56:08I think because. There's a lot of wisdom.
- 56:10And a short span like there's, there's, there's so.
- 56:16Much to be. Explored and introduced and
- 56:22rediscovered and, and every time I read it, I find something new,
- 56:28like it's just, you know. Yeah, it's just.
- 56:32A masterpiece. Well, you say like it's one of
- 56:35the easier things. To read, right, like you
- 56:37mentioned it as being like not as tedious or maybe not as
- 56:40difficult. I think a lot of that has to do
- 56:43with the Yeah, it's short, yeah. There's like what is.
- 56:46It 140 something stanzas, you know what I mean?
- 56:49So like, you can knock that out, you know, while you're taking a
- 56:52dump if you really wanted to, if it's a, if it's a, you know, but
- 56:58I think maybe that one of the reasons why, because it also
- 57:00depends on the translation. You've got, you know, Oliver
- 57:04Gray, you've got Hollander, you've got Thorpe, you've got,
- 57:08you know, all these various linguistic translations of the
- 57:12oven Mall. There's.
- 57:15There's one called the Cowboy. Oven mall that I've that I've
- 57:18also found that it's it's it's less like it's, it's more laxed
- 57:28in the way it's worded so that it's it's it's more digestible.
- 57:34Yeah. What Jackson?
- 57:35Crawford did with that. One, I have a copy of it as
- 57:38well. I actually have.
- 57:41I have his translation of the Poetic Edda on my bookshelf and
- 57:45then I have a copy of cowboy haul of them all that he wrote.
- 57:52So Jack Jackson Crawford's a linguist.
- 57:53I think everybody that listens to my podcast knows who Jackson
- 57:56Crawford is. He's an, he's a linguistic
- 57:59expert. That's his field of study.
- 58:02He's not Pagan, but he's a linguist in Old Norse languages
- 58:07and myth. He's he's, he's very well, very
- 58:09well versed in, in the various sagas.
- 58:13So when Jackson translated the cowboy haul of them all, you
- 58:16know he's he's, he's translating a text that he knows what the
- 58:20Codex manuscript. Says from old.
- 58:24Norse. He's, you know, he's read those
- 58:26manuscripts. So he knows from a linguistic
- 58:28standpoint, OK, if I'm going to write this in the words and in
- 58:32the manner in which a, you know, late 19th century cattle
- 58:38rustler, a cowboy would, would, would read such a thing.
- 58:42Like he knows what to say and how to say it.
- 58:45And that appeals to most American readers because
- 58:49obviously that's part of our heritage, part of our history as
- 58:52a country, right, as a nation is, is the American West and the
- 58:54Cowboys and this and that. So it hits a real good nerve, I
- 58:58think for for American readers especially to to see that what's
- 59:04interesting for me. Though is like with.
- 59:06The hall of them all and with a lot of the the, the poems from
- 59:09that era is getting into the, the poeticness of it, right?
- 59:14How they would write their, the meter in which they would say
- 59:17things, right. So there was the alliteration of
- 59:21Skaldak poetry that you had to, we talked about research, right?
- 59:26You had to know what you were doing back then to be a scald
- 59:32and to be a good one. You know what I mean?
- 59:37If you were a good one, you were you were given.
- 59:42A very high status in. Society, you know, you, you were
- 59:46telling stories for kings or nobles or you know what I mean?
- 59:49You were, you're kind of a big deal so.
- 59:54When it comes to like. Reading those things, I
- 59:57understand like with with some people, how that can be kind of
- 1:00:00tedious. It can be kind of a of a of a
- 1:00:02tiresome read because it's like nobody talks like this anymore.
- 1:00:07You know, no talks in that pattern, in that alliteration,
- 1:00:10in that, you know, it's like reading Shakespeare.
- 1:00:13Almost. For for English, you know what
- 1:00:15I'm saying? It's it's nobody really talks
- 1:00:19like that. Like if you find.
- 1:00:24Like I find other versions of the Harlem all to be more like
- 1:00:30beautiful and poetic, but Jackson Crawford.
- 1:00:34Is just. Way more digestible for, for
- 1:00:38like the typical person, because you're right, people don't talk
- 1:00:42like that anymore. It's it's beautiful the way it's
- 1:00:47written in other versions, but it's understandable from Jackson
- 1:00:52Crawford. Like I get that typical American
- 1:00:56pick it up and know what you're talking about as opposed to
- 1:00:59having to read it 10 times because you're like, what does
- 1:01:02that mean? Yeah, it just.
- 1:01:05Kind of. Spoken plainly instead of
- 1:01:09spoken. Poetically.
- 1:01:12It's like. You can take your pick.
- 1:01:14Or read both? Why not both?
- 1:01:17Why not read? Jackson Crawford SO.
- 1:01:19You know what this means when you move on to different
- 1:01:22versions? Like why not?
- 1:01:24Why not get 5 different versions of the haul of them all?
- 1:01:27Read them all like that's that's possible.
- 1:01:31I mean, I've got I. Guess that I've got Jackson
- 1:01:32Crawford's translation. I've got, I've got a little
- 1:01:39about a decade or so ago, my wife got me this little, it's a
- 1:01:41little pocket Hovamal. So it's, it's just the Hovamal,
- 1:01:45but I think it's Oliver Bray's translation.
- 1:01:50I've got, you know, PDFs or whatever that I kept, like
- 1:01:54digital copies of Hollander's translation.
- 1:01:58Carolyn. What's her name?
- 1:02:01Carolyn. Levington I think maybe.
- 1:02:06Anyway, she does a really great translation too.
- 1:02:09Like there's so many people who have studied the languages and
- 1:02:13have translated them into modern English.
- 1:02:17Yeah. Read them all.
- 1:02:18Read you. Know 'cause you'll.
- 1:02:20You'll pick up on different things.
- 1:02:21One linguist might translate a word in from Old Norse one way
- 1:02:27that another linguist, for their reasons, translate it into being
- 1:02:32a slightly different word. You know or or.
- 1:02:36A word that means something. Similar, but in a different
- 1:02:38context. That sort of thing.
- 1:02:39Read them all like at this. At at that.
- 1:02:43Point like like having. The.
- 1:02:47The perspective of Jackson Crawford and having Hollander
- 1:02:51and having all these translations, like there's
- 1:02:54really no excuse not to read it, no.
- 1:02:58No matter of fact, there's just so many possibilities.
- 1:03:04That exactly. Why not read them all?
- 1:03:08Yeah, there's. Even a few.
- 1:03:10There's even. Some, some sites that I found
- 1:03:13which will, they'll have the stanzas written out, They'll,
- 1:03:18they'll, they'll write it out in Old Norse and then they'll put 3
- 1:03:23or 4, sometimes more translations side by side of the
- 1:03:27same stanza from different translators translations.
- 1:03:32So it'll be like, here's the Old Norse text, right?
- 1:03:34And then here's the Bray translation, here's the bellows
- 1:03:37translation, here's the Hollander, here's the right.
- 1:03:40And you get to read how the author conveyed the meaning of,
- 1:03:47of that verse through their knowledge at the time.
- 1:03:54And that's to be, that's the thing about like languages that
- 1:03:56aren't spoken anymore. Now, obviously nobody's speaking
- 1:03:58Old Norse anymore. I think the closest language
- 1:04:01that we have alive today that resembles that is modern
- 1:04:04Icelandic. But when you really get into
- 1:04:08the, the roots of, of words and, and where they all come from,
- 1:04:11it's like you, you get into the, the cognition of words and where
- 1:04:15this, you know, this is a word that comes from that word, which
- 1:04:17comes from a, a root word that is so old that it's, you know,
- 1:04:23567-8000 years old or more because it's proto Indo European
- 1:04:28and nobody's even speak like it's all reconstructed at that
- 1:04:31point. So it is, it's a, it's a really
- 1:04:33wild thing. And I don't know, like we could,
- 1:04:35that's a whole, like that's a whole topic to, to really get
- 1:04:40down into another episode. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:44But I wanted to, I wanted to kind of key in.
- 1:04:46On what you were so key, so, so like, you know, you really put a
- 1:04:52focus on misinformation or, you know, having to start over
- 1:04:59because you know, you read the wrong thing or this or that.
- 1:05:03What was like, what do you have any examples of, of, of what you
- 1:05:06encountered that 'cause you know, you talked about coming
- 1:05:09from Wicca and then to Greek and then it's a Norse.
- 1:05:12And the one of the things that kind of just stuck in my mind as
- 1:05:14I'm hearing about it is that, OK, maybe it's not that the
- 1:05:17information was wrong inherently.
- 1:05:20And I say. Wrong, like with air quotes,
- 1:05:21like it wasn't wrong as being inaccurate, it just didn't apply
- 1:05:24to the path that you were pursuing at the time, right.
- 1:05:28Maybe some of the things that surround the Greek IDs or
- 1:05:33ideologies or or approaches to divinity don't quite fit into
- 1:05:38the Norse or Germanic structure of things.
- 1:05:42So like what Like what were your like?
- 1:05:45How do you vet or or like? Cat like how do you vet new?
- 1:05:51Sources like, oh, I'm coming up on something, you know, this is
- 1:05:54a new influencer. I just found this guy or this
- 1:05:56gal online or I just found this book.
- 1:05:59Like what it like do you have like a a process that you use to
- 1:06:02vet the new source that you're encountering before you find
- 1:06:06that you they are trustworthy or worth putting more investment
- 1:06:11into with listening and following what they're doing?
- 1:06:16Honestly, with Google nowadays and people's like.
- 1:06:26I'm trying to find a word but like.
- 1:06:28With people's back catalogs and everything else.
- 1:06:33Do your research. Do your listener.
- 1:06:36Do your research. Follow.
- 1:06:40Follow your instincts, follow your gut.
- 1:06:44Use use all 5 senses and all. 6 or 7.
- 1:06:50Senses because. You know.
- 1:06:53All 5 senses are not where it stops.
- 1:06:58You've got your sense of spirit. And your sense of aura, so use
- 1:07:05those too. So do you think that?
- 1:07:11If you encounter one person's, I'm just going to use an
- 1:07:14example, right? Let's say you you you just come
- 1:07:16across one person's video online, or you Googled something
- 1:07:21and you found an article that they wrote.
- 1:07:26Do you think that you can? Determine, based off that one
- 1:07:30encounter whether or not it's worth pursuing their information
- 1:07:38further. Like, oh, let me go read some
- 1:07:39more of their stuff, or let me go watch some more of their
- 1:07:42stuff. Or should it be, Hey, I found
- 1:07:45it. Let me let me read some more,
- 1:07:48let me look into this some more, right?
- 1:07:50Is there is there anything that you think that just initially
- 1:07:52can come through from that one time encounter that can put you
- 1:07:58on the trajectory to continue? With that.
- 1:08:04I think I. Think the first thing.
- 1:08:06You should look for when you find encounter something new,
- 1:08:11whether it be a book, whether it be an influence, or whether it
- 1:08:15be a podcast, TV show, you know, anything.
- 1:08:22You should first, you should first thing you should do is
- 1:08:28just is research legitimacy. And the second thing you should
- 1:08:33do is you should find out if it's even worth your time.
- 1:08:40You know, like find out if. It's legitimate, and then find
- 1:08:44out if it's worth diving into, and then find out if it's right
- 1:08:49for you on your path. As an.
- 1:08:53Individual because we all walk different paths and not.
- 1:09:00You know what? I.
- 1:09:01Well, works for me, may not work for you or any anybody
- 1:09:04listening. So, you know, we've got to find
- 1:09:07it for ourselves. Yeah.
- 1:09:11There's an interesting kind of like, I don't want to say tactic
- 1:09:14or, or method, maybe is, is another way, but like one of the
- 1:09:18things that I've kind of employed with with how I learn
- 1:09:24things or, or absorb knowledge and, and, and where I go to
- 1:09:28pursue it is, you know, I might, I might use the Internet to
- 1:09:32Reese like to, to look up information about something.
- 1:09:35And of course, this the, you know, the internet's going to
- 1:09:37provide search results based off of my.
- 1:09:41Keywords, right? So I'm being given clues, I'm
- 1:09:44being given, you know, directions that I could
- 1:09:48potentially go down. I'm, I'm on a path now.
- 1:09:50I've, I've, I've, I've put my virtual feet in motion, right.
- 1:09:56And and then now along my path, I've got, I've got this stick
- 1:10:02over here that's. That I could I that I could
- 1:10:06maybe. Use for something, whether it's
- 1:10:09walking support or whether it's defending myself against I'll
- 1:10:15doers or wild animals. Or maybe it could help with, you
- 1:10:19know, supporting me. If I'm injured or.
- 1:10:23Raising a shelter, right? And now I'm walking down a
- 1:10:25little bit further, right? And now this other link or this
- 1:10:28other thing I've got a pile of, you know, I got.
- 1:10:33Some rocks over here you. Know and I'm saying, Oh well, I
- 1:10:35could leave those rocks because that I don't I don't think I
- 1:10:38need rocks. What could I use rocks for?
- 1:10:40That's just going to weigh me down.
- 1:10:42So maybe I leave those rocks beside and then I keep walking
- 1:10:45Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo right and then oh wow, you know, I found
- 1:10:48you know, I found a Grove of trees.
- 1:10:51Oh, I'm going to go into these Grove of trees and now the stick
- 1:10:54that I have that I picked up and then I kept might be something
- 1:10:58that I can use in this Grove of trees 'cause now I can, you
- 1:11:01know, use it to dig a hole or I can use it to, you know what I'm
- 1:11:03saying? So there's like tools that that
- 1:11:05come up on our path that we can choose to pick up or we can
- 1:11:08choose to not. It, it maybe doesn't mean that
- 1:11:12they're inherently useless or that they're wrong.
- 1:11:15It's just that, well, maybe just doesn't fit for the application
- 1:11:17in which I'm. The path that I'm walking.
- 1:11:22You know, or I pick everything up and I'm encumbered with all
- 1:11:25this shit and now I've got to figure out what do I leave?
- 1:11:28What do I set aside? What do I carry with me?
- 1:11:30Because now I'm overburdened by all this junk, all this
- 1:11:32knowledge, all this stuff. And now I got to figure it out.
- 1:11:35Now I got to all right, put it all down.
- 1:11:37What do I need? Nope.
- 1:11:38This, this belongs here. That belongs there, you know and
- 1:11:41and triage the situation and figure out.
- 1:11:44OK, now I've got. Something I can work with?
- 1:11:46I can build a shelter out of this.
- 1:11:48I can build a fire pit out of that.
- 1:11:49I can make a, you know, whatever.
- 1:11:52That's kind of like how I look at it.
- 1:11:54I don't know, maybe that. Yeah, I play a lot.
- 1:11:57I play a lot of. Video games and as an as a as an
- 1:12:04example to what you're saying in a lot of video.
- 1:12:09Games. You have to pick and choose what
- 1:12:13items to pick up and what items to leave behind because if not,
- 1:12:18then your movement's slow and you get sluggish because you're
- 1:12:21just carrying too much. And I think that applies to
- 1:12:25knowledge as well, because it slows your progress when you
- 1:12:30have just an overwhelming amount of information flooding you too
- 1:12:36quickly. That's why I say start with
- 1:12:39something like All of them all, because it's simple, yet it's
- 1:12:44profound at the same time. You know, yeah.
- 1:12:51Yeah, there's short. Bits, you know.
- 1:12:53You get the right translation. It's, it's something that you
- 1:12:55can relate to. It's practical.
- 1:12:58I go back to that word a lot with, with the Hall of Them All.
- 1:13:00It's, it's practical. You know, you don't even have to
- 1:13:03necessarily even be a heathen or Pagan to agree that what the
- 1:13:07Hall of the Mall talks about is practical.
- 1:13:10Good advice for anybody. Yeah, right.
- 1:13:14You don't have to be. You don't have to.
- 1:13:16Be heathen to get something out of the Harlem Mall.
- 1:13:18Anyone can, right? I mean, it's, it tells you
- 1:13:23things like like how to be a good guest or a host.
- 1:13:27That's where it starts. And then it goes into real life
- 1:13:32situations like, hey, don't, don't mess with a, you know,
- 1:13:37another man's lady, don't do that.
- 1:13:40That's not good news. But you know.
- 1:13:43And then it and. Then it'll turn around, and then
- 1:13:46it'll turn. Around and tell you the.
- 1:13:48Fool is. He who?
- 1:13:50Drinks past his lemon, you know, and yeah, and it's.
- 1:13:57There's just so much. In such a short package that
- 1:14:01it's just packed with information that is very useful,
- 1:14:06yeah. I don't know how you think about
- 1:14:08it, but I've also encountered heathens or pagans that that you
- 1:14:13know, they, they, they find the haul of them all and they, and
- 1:14:16they look at that as it as if it's like their Bible.
- 1:14:20I would caution. Against that.
- 1:14:23To people in general, because it's not.
- 1:14:26That it's. Not that's not what the haul of
- 1:14:28them all ever was, and that's not what any of the source
- 1:14:32material when you talk about doing research right and and
- 1:14:35learning things, it's not it's not to be we're not replacing
- 1:14:41this from like a previous religion that you maybe were
- 1:14:44brought up in or or came from where you have this one book of
- 1:14:46instructions that tells you what to do.
- 1:14:48And if that you don't, you know, whatever.
- 1:14:50No, these, you know, they're, they're a lot of it's myth, a
- 1:14:53lot of it's stories that have been preserved through time and
- 1:14:59you know it. It's linked back to a society
- 1:15:01and the way that a culture was living at the time.
- 1:15:05They're not to be taken as though they are your book of
- 1:15:08instructions. It's like.
- 1:15:11If if somebody give. Would give you advice.
- 1:15:15You have the. Option.
- 1:15:17To ignore it, yes, you know. Yeah, batshit.
- 1:15:24Probably happens when you do. But you have the option.
- 1:15:27This isn't like the. Almighty words.
- 1:15:33But at the same time, it is, it's just wisdom from somebody
- 1:15:37who's way more wise than we are, you know?
- 1:15:41Yeah, that's, that's how I yeah, It's, you know, again and it's.
- 1:15:45Framed around or it's built around a society at the time
- 1:15:48that this, this, this made a lot of sense.
- 1:15:51It was good practical sense. And if you really strip away the
- 1:15:54fat and you get down to brass tacks, it it same thing applies
- 1:15:58even today. You know, you get, you get rid
- 1:15:59of all the, the nonsense that doesn't mean anything in modern
- 1:16:03times. You get back to simplicity.
- 1:16:06It's it's. It's good stuff you find.
- 1:16:09You find. What means something?
- 1:16:10To you, that's what you do personally in my in my journey,
- 1:16:17that's that's what I've had to do a lot of is find something
- 1:16:22that means something to me and as an individual, you know, as
- 1:16:28as a. Spirit you.
- 1:16:30Know yeah as a find. As.
- 1:16:34A all my, all my moving parts, you know, find something that
- 1:16:39really like resonates with you and then run with it.
- 1:16:43Find more that resonates with you.
- 1:16:47You can never. Never stop.
- 1:16:49Learning. We're never done.
- 1:16:53I'm not elite. Dude, I'm always learning things
- 1:16:56and when it comes to stuff like, you know, learning and sharing,
- 1:17:02this is a question that I wanted to throw your way is that that
- 1:17:07do you think that there's a difference between people who
- 1:17:11are wrong, but they mean well versus someone who's wrong and
- 1:17:19they know it and they're just out here like intentionally
- 1:17:23trying to? Mislead.
- 1:17:25People which I have a hard time believing that there's those
- 1:17:29types out here. I, I know there are like there's
- 1:17:32people that are so misguided and so enamored with.
- 1:17:37Themselves or their own? Ego that they're like, they
- 1:17:39think they're the ones that people should follow.
- 1:17:41But yeah, I just wanted to ask you like, you know, people that
- 1:17:44may be out here saying things that are wrong and they're just
- 1:17:48ignorant. They don't know any better.
- 1:17:49They. Mean well, but they're wrong in
- 1:17:52what they're saying. There's a difference.
- 1:17:56There's a There's a huge difference between like innocent
- 1:17:59ignorance and. Purposefully.
- 1:18:02Misleading people just for the sake of it.
- 1:18:07Like there's a huge difference, and I think that a lot of people
- 1:18:11today are just innocently ignorant because they.
- 1:18:17They don't want to put the time. In because they just, they they
- 1:18:21can't put. Down their phone.
- 1:18:22For 10 minutes and read a book, you know, you think that's what
- 1:18:27it is. You think that people are?
- 1:18:28Just like I, I have a voice, I got to say something and now
- 1:18:31I've got the means to do it. And instead of doing my
- 1:18:34research, I'm just going to believe and and say something.
- 1:18:38The word, the word, vomit all. Over the Internet?
- 1:18:41Yeah, instead of. Doing research, they're.
- 1:18:45Out there watching Tik toks of people who may or may not be
- 1:18:48telling the truth and may or may not know what they're talking
- 1:18:52about. So if that's the case.
- 1:18:55And if and if we're are, if we, if we are truly in a time where
- 1:18:58people are just out here blissfully ignorant, right?
- 1:19:02They think they they, they may mean well, but they just don't
- 1:19:05have the, they don't have any business being in a position.
- 1:19:10To tell people. What to think or how to think or
- 1:19:13whatever? How do you think we should?
- 1:19:16How do you think that that should be confronted?
- 1:19:19Or or faced. You know, do we, do we go on
- 1:19:22here and we just call people out for their ignorance on every
- 1:19:27turn or do we let things go and pick our battles and.
- 1:19:35Do our own thing. Where do you sit on it?
- 1:19:40Both. Honestly.
- 1:19:42Because, you know, I think, I think if you think that somebody
- 1:19:48is innocently ignorant, you should try to politely correct
- 1:19:53them. And if that.
- 1:19:55Doesn't work. Or they get.
- 1:19:58Defensive or? Upset then you let it go.
- 1:20:04No, because if a lot of a lot of people today, especially
- 1:20:11nowadays, like it's just getting worse.
- 1:20:14Where people just refuse to be corrected in any way.
- 1:20:23Like I, I. Found.
- 1:20:24That. Way more than in say, in 2010.
- 1:20:33People today are just so egotistical and like to the
- 1:20:42point where. They can't be.
- 1:20:43Corrected. Yeah, they think that they know
- 1:20:47everything about everything and they they just can't handle
- 1:20:54criticism. In any form, even if it's.
- 1:21:00Polite. So I say to that, I say try try
- 1:21:05to correct them. But if you get something.
- 1:21:08Nasty. Let it, let it go.
- 1:21:12You. Don't need that.
- 1:21:13On your. You don't.
- 1:21:15You don't need that on your head all the time.
- 1:21:18You don't need to be running, arguing with people that are
- 1:21:22just blissfully ignorant. And don't we are on the Internet
- 1:21:25of all things too, right? I mean, like, look like that's,
- 1:21:28that's, that's so much of the reason, like you and I were
- 1:21:30talking about this before we started recording tonight, is
- 1:21:32that, you know, I've, I've stepped way back.
- 1:21:35I've removed myself from I've. I've kept all of my accounts
- 1:21:38active for people to find things, but I'm not posting to
- 1:21:41them anymore because I don't want to deal with the Internet.
- 1:21:47Accounts that want to. Argue.
- 1:21:51Like a debate. Is on first of all, OK, if I'm
- 1:21:53presenting something and I'm, I'm citing my sources and then
- 1:21:57somebody else comes in and says, no, you're wrong.
- 1:22:00OK, why am I wrong? Show me where I'm wrong.
- 1:22:02Where where am I wrong? Based off of sources based off
- 1:22:06of your knowledge. Or at least point me in the
- 1:22:08direction so I can research it myself, right?
- 1:22:10Don't just come on and be like, I hate what you're saying and
- 1:22:12you're an idiot and fuck you. Like OK that's your opinion.
- 1:22:16But what? What is your valid argument
- 1:22:18here? Like let's have a discussion,
- 1:22:20let's have a debate about it. Am I, am I wrong for saying
- 1:22:25that, you know, the winter night celebration for the Germanic
- 1:22:28people in 2025 was not in October like every Tom, Dick and
- 1:22:33Harry was trying to say it was. It was actually in November
- 1:22:36because you have to account for the fact that there's a lunar
- 1:22:40leap moon or leap year that there were 13 moons in the in
- 1:22:43the year. And so we have to account for
- 1:22:45that. It's all based off of well
- 1:22:47documented. Sources with how the.
- 1:22:49Germanic peoples reckoned time. Are you trying to argue with me
- 1:22:53off of something else that I don't know?
- 1:22:55And if so, where are your sources?
- 1:22:57Let me do the research. Let me counteract this, this
- 1:23:01argument. If you have 1 and that's fine,
- 1:23:04but it can't it, it, it very rarely can be done civilly
- 1:23:07online anymore. And that's where I was just
- 1:23:09like, you know what do you want to debate with me?
- 1:23:12Come over here on Patreon and do it because at least I know that
- 1:23:15the audience that's here wants to be here and, and listen.
- 1:23:18I'm not trying to avoid discourse.
- 1:23:23I'm not trying to avoid conversations or debates.
- 1:23:27I'm trying to peace. You know what I mean?
- 1:23:30And that's what it's about. It's I, I listen, I, I, I'm, I'm
- 1:23:32not the authority. I'm not the end all be all.
- 1:23:34I am learning too, and I've been learning for a long time.
- 1:23:38So if I've missed something or you found something that is
- 1:23:41pivotal to learning, then come along here and, and let's share
- 1:23:46in that experience together. Let's not get into this, you
- 1:23:49know. You know you don't have the the
- 1:23:54senseless teaching. You have something to teach me
- 1:23:57or you? Just running your mouth.
- 1:23:59To run your mouth right, you want to be a noticed.
- 1:24:02On my platform for for being, you know, a jerk.
- 1:24:06Listen, I'm not going to give you.
- 1:24:07That I'm not going to. I'm going to shut it down.
- 1:24:10I'm not. That's not what I'm here for and
- 1:24:11that's not what I've been here for.
- 1:24:12But that's so much of what I encountered over the the last
- 1:24:16nearly a decade so. I just stepped.
- 1:24:19Away from you. Have fun with that, you know, do
- 1:24:24your thing, but man, you're going to feel way.
- 1:24:28More free because maybe two years ago I I got rid of.
- 1:24:35All social. Media, yeah.
- 1:24:38I literally. Have YouTube and that's it.
- 1:24:43That's the highest form. Of social media that I have
- 1:24:47right now is YouTube. I I don't have Facebook.
- 1:24:51Well, I do, but I have like a handful of.
- 1:24:55Friends and I. Stick within my circle and I, I,
- 1:25:00I don't have an Instagram. I don't know what TikTok is or
- 1:25:04what it's about. I, I don't.
- 1:25:09I I don't. I don't mess with it, I just
- 1:25:13it's. Not for me it's.
- 1:25:15Not my thing, like I said I'm in that technology.
- 1:25:18I don't even know how to unmute myself without taking 10 years
- 1:25:23like it. I clicked on the I agree like 9
- 1:25:27times before I realized I have to click this little box that
- 1:25:31says I agree. Don't make it easy for us
- 1:25:34either. You know it ain't you like.
- 1:25:40All I had to do was click the little box.
- 1:25:42But I'm sitting here going why? Why?
- 1:25:44And then I read it the red letters and I'm like, oh, click.
- 1:25:48And then it worked. I was like now I feel dumb.
- 1:25:54Like, I don't know. Like I, I.
- 1:25:56Literally. I literally have my first
- 1:25:59computer in the other room that I got maybe 2 weeks ago and I
- 1:26:05have to I have to have my brother reset it because I don't
- 1:26:08know how like. I feel you.
- 1:26:13Work in. ITI work in IT and I still
- 1:26:16sometimes I'm like make it make sense and it doesn't and you
- 1:26:20like you can't logically solution things that technology
- 1:26:24does. Sometimes it's I'm literally.
- 1:26:27A hit to be kind of. Person work, damn it.
- 1:26:32Yeah, that's that's me If it. If hitting it doesn't, if
- 1:26:36hitting it doesn't work, then I go get my brother because he
- 1:26:40knows more about that shit than I ever will.
- 1:26:46No, it's just not my. Thing it's not within my realm
- 1:26:51of understanding. I there's, there's quite a few
- 1:26:54things that I'm good at. Technology is not one of them.
- 1:27:00And nothing wrong with that, you know there's.
- 1:27:01Nothing wrong with that at all, but yeah man as.
- 1:27:06We get to close and I'm looking at.
- 1:27:07Time and stuff I want to get to where we wrap this up here.
- 1:27:09We're going for almost an hour and a half and I want to be
- 1:27:11respectful of your time and our listeners time because you know
- 1:27:14people that that listen and watch this stuff sometimes
- 1:27:16they'll pick it up in piece meal, you know, they'll they'll
- 1:27:18catch it here or there. So for anybody that's made it
- 1:27:21this far in the episode, definitely appreciate it and
- 1:27:24we're going to be wrapping things up here here pretty soon.
- 1:27:28So let me see, I had one. More one more question and.
- 1:27:32Then we're going to get into this system, which is like fun
- 1:27:34random things. Have you noticed a?
- 1:27:38Certain. Type of.
- 1:27:42Misinformation. From any path, whether it be the
- 1:27:45Wiccan or the Greek or the Norse path, right?
- 1:27:49Have you noticed that there's a certain type of misinformation
- 1:27:52that just kind of keeps resurfacing in the like Pagan or
- 1:27:57heathen scenes? Things that you've noticed that
- 1:28:00you go, man, I know the right answer to this.
- 1:28:02Why is this misinformation constantly coming up?
- 1:28:09I think. The first thing you should look
- 1:28:12for is how they pronounce sowing.
- 1:28:17If if you hear them say. Samhain, they do not know what
- 1:28:22they're talking about. Step away.
- 1:28:26Yeah, I. Have experienced.
- 1:28:28I have experienced pagans that have decades in in this path
- 1:28:35that still pronounce it Samhain and it drives me up the fucking
- 1:28:41wall. It really does.
- 1:28:45Like yeah, it. Just drives me nuts.
- 1:28:50And another thing is you really should like just be observant.
- 1:29:00In with all of your senses. Because if something isn't
- 1:29:04right, there are clues. There are big clues and I'm too
- 1:29:12tired to list them, but there are.
- 1:29:15Clues and. You can spot.
- 1:29:18A bullshitter. From a mile away sometimes, a
- 1:29:22lot of times because of just things that they do and say
- 1:29:27doesn't make sense and then you research it and you find out
- 1:29:32he's talking. Out his ass.
- 1:29:33Or she she does not have a clue what she's talking about.
- 1:29:38Does this person just is full of shit.
- 1:29:43You know what if you could give advice.
- 1:29:48To yourself, like to your younger self, like you're 15
- 1:29:51years and however many months or whatever deep into your Pagan
- 1:29:55journey. If you could give one piece of
- 1:29:57advice to your younger self when you first started your path,
- 1:30:00what would it be? Read.
- 1:30:04Read. Not websites, not random posts
- 1:30:12that people on the Internet do. Read established authors.
- 1:30:19Research what you're reading, you know, do your damn.
- 1:30:24Homework. I can't.
- 1:30:27Stress that and. Yeah.
- 1:30:29Do. The work.
- 1:30:32I mean the hard work. Beats talent.
- 1:30:36When talent don't work, it's just, it just does say that one
- 1:30:40more time, so. I said hard work.
- 1:30:43Beats. Talent when talent doesn't work
- 1:30:47hard. Hell yeah.
- 1:30:55I think it was Kobe. Bryant that.
- 1:30:57Said that and he was one. Of the most hard.
- 1:31:01Working person, people I've ever seen in the sporting world or
- 1:31:06beyond so. Are you you?
- 1:31:11Put in. Sorry, go ahead.
- 1:31:15I was. Just finishing.
- 1:31:19You know, you just. You just got to put in.
- 1:31:20The work. Do you?
- 1:31:24Are you old enough to? Remember reading Rainbow?
- 1:31:27Levar Burton? Yeah.
- 1:31:31Remember, Remember every. After every episode, he would
- 1:31:36have his little thing, and then the last thing that he would say
- 1:31:39was you don't have to take my word for it.
- 1:31:44And that was what, like my generation and maybe some of
- 1:31:49your generation. I know we're a few years apart,
- 1:31:52but you're not that much further younger than me.
- 1:31:55You know, you don't have to take my word for it.
- 1:31:58We grew up hearing an influencer of the time somebody was on TV
- 1:32:03reading books and talking about things, ending his whole spiel
- 1:32:09with don't take my word for it, read the book yourself.
- 1:32:13Do the damn work with yourself. Like this should be this.
- 1:32:18This should be the. Continued theme This should be
- 1:32:21the continued spirit of what people.
- 1:32:25Are saying like listen. I'm writing blog articles, I'm
- 1:32:27doing podcasts, I'm speaking out on a platform about things.
- 1:32:31But at the end of the day, you ain't got to take my word for
- 1:32:34it. Go, go, go search for it
- 1:32:37yourself. If I could find it, you could
- 1:32:38find it. Or if you're having a hard time
- 1:32:40finding it and you're needing some guidance, sure, I'll point
- 1:32:43you in the right direction. You know, I'm not going to give
- 1:32:45you the answer myself per SE, but I'm going to like, hey, this
- 1:32:48is what I can find. And I tried to do that with so
- 1:32:50much of my stuff throughout the years Is this is what I'm saying
- 1:32:53and here's the source is where I got it from citation, but you've
- 1:32:57put in. You've put in the work to earn
- 1:33:01that knowledge that you can then pass on to others.
- 1:33:06You have to work. For it you.
- 1:33:08Can't just cheat and take, you know, everything from everyone
- 1:33:15and then call it done. That's what I did and it didn't
- 1:33:18work, you know? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:33:22Right, the last. Or so years I've really put my
- 1:33:26head down and I've I've really been trying to study as hard as
- 1:33:31I can with, you know, with a little free time I have so that
- 1:33:35I can be a better Pagan that should.
- 1:33:40Be the goal every. Day, every week, every month,
- 1:33:43every year is to just simply be a better Pagan, be a better
- 1:33:49person and be a better entity. If you know everything improved,
- 1:33:57yes, you know it doesn't. Matter.
- 1:34:00It doesn't matter if you improve an inch or a mile, just improve,
- 1:34:05right? Exactly.
- 1:34:08Right. You know it's.
- 1:34:09It's not about, you know, a friend of mine, a brother of
- 1:34:12mine, he says something that I, that I think is really cool.
- 1:34:15He's like, it's not about, you know, it's not about the race.
- 1:34:20It's at our own pace, right? So whatever progress you make,
- 1:34:25like you said, whether it's an inch or or more, whatever, like
- 1:34:29progress, be a better version of yourself today than you were
- 1:34:33yesterday, 'cause we're, we don't know what we don't know
- 1:34:36what the best version of ourselves is, because that,
- 1:34:39that's, that's out out of our scope.
- 1:34:41We can we, we know that, OK, I was this way today.
- 1:34:45How can I be a better version of this tomorrow when I get that
- 1:34:49journal is the best? Version of.
- 1:34:52You it's just. You get better.
- 1:34:56And better and better. It's just the the journey of
- 1:35:00life is just seeing how good you can get, yeah.
- 1:35:04How you know how knowledgeable? You can be how how you know good
- 1:35:10of a human being or a Pagan or whatever you want to do even
- 1:35:15like. I'll use the.
- 1:35:18Realm of sports. As an example, like if you want
- 1:35:22to be an athlete, you got to work.
- 1:35:25For it can't just sit. On the freaking couch all day
- 1:35:28eating potato chips and watching TV and think that you're going
- 1:35:32to, you know, enter the NFL or the NHL or, you know, whatever
- 1:35:38else you want to do soccer, you know, get up blank and do it
- 1:35:44right now. Like get up and do it.
- 1:35:48You got to do it. You got to live it.
- 1:35:51Breathe it. You got to.
- 1:35:54Really want it. And then you've got to work for
- 1:35:57it. Yeah, you got to live it right.
- 1:36:01Make it a lifestyle so the book knowledge, everything that you
- 1:36:05take from those sources right. That's all great and you know a
- 1:36:08lot OK now what are you going to do with it?
- 1:36:11Really? It's a hobby.
- 1:36:13It's a. Lifestyle, it doesn't matter.
- 1:36:16What region it? Is and a lot of a lot of people.
- 1:36:21Nowadays. Just take it as a hobby.
- 1:36:23Oh, what are your hobbies? Oh well I like video games and
- 1:36:28sports and paganism. Like no, it doesn't work that
- 1:36:33way. Oh man.
- 1:36:36Yeah, it's it's. It's a real thing.
- 1:36:38It it's it's not something that you know, and a lot, yeah, I
- 1:36:41agree. I think a lot of people tend to
- 1:36:43to use the aesthetic to gain notoriety or to gain attention.
- 1:36:49It's for the clout. Paganism has become a means of
- 1:36:56cultural appropriation. To be honest, They, they,
- 1:36:59they're appropriating the culture of people that live this
- 1:37:03lifestyle day in and day out and they're adopting aesthetics
- 1:37:10buzzwords. This or that.
- 1:37:12And they're using it to gain this their 5 minutes of fame or
- 1:37:1815 minutes of fame. Whatever the hell.
- 1:37:21And it's not that it, you know, good luck with that because
- 1:37:23you're not going to get much from it.
- 1:37:26It's like people are wearing. People are people are wearing
- 1:37:29the mill near and I just butchered the hell out of that,
- 1:37:33but people are wearing mule near and don't even know what it's
- 1:37:39called like. They don't even know a.
- 1:37:43Ballpark of how to It's not that they don't.
- 1:37:47Know how to pronounce. It it's simply that they don't
- 1:37:49even know what it's called or who wields it or whatever.
- 1:37:53It's like, come on, dude. Are they?
- 1:37:55Yeah, are they wear the the 1st. The first.
- 1:37:59Thing it's like. Wearing for.
- 1:38:02You can't name 3 songs, yeah. Yeah, like, oh.
- 1:38:06You like that band so much and you're wearing their shirt.
- 1:38:09Like name 3 songs. The Muellner thing is another
- 1:38:12one, right? Where'd you like?
- 1:38:13What do you like? The ah, you know, I like the
- 1:38:15Marvel movies and you know, like what?
- 1:38:20There's more to it than that. That's.
- 1:38:21Not even. No.
- 1:38:24I guess you like that, but it's not even what this is.
- 1:38:26About you know all. Right.
- 1:38:31I'm going to ask you a few just. Fun questions, Schizo, and then
- 1:38:34we're going to wrap this up here.
- 1:38:37I know you talked earlier in the episode about recovery.
- 1:38:43And and. A.
- 1:38:46A. And all that, but if you.
- 1:38:48Could share a horn, whether it be a horn of meat or just a horn
- 1:38:51of any sight. You know anything with any
- 1:38:55figure from Norse Smith. Who would it be?
- 1:39:00Oh God. Freya.
- 1:39:06Freya. Is that a?
- 1:39:12Is that? Because of the voice that you
- 1:39:14heard years ago, the female voice is, is, is that, is there
- 1:39:18maybe a connection with that or is it something else?
- 1:39:23I feel like a A. Deep connection with Freya
- 1:39:27because of I don't know. It's it's.
- 1:39:32It's difficult. To explain.
- 1:39:34I just, I feel more connected with Freya than I do some of the
- 1:39:40other gods. I, I do feel connected with Odin
- 1:39:44and Thor, you know, the, the gods, but I, I just feel an
- 1:39:49extra deep connection with Frank.
- 1:39:53That's beautiful, man. What is 1 Pagan cliche that
- 1:39:58makes you roll your eyes every time?
- 1:40:02Sam Haines. Sam.
- 1:40:05I got to figure. That was going.
- 1:40:07To be old Sam Haines. Drives me bad.
- 1:40:11Shit, crazy. I actually, I actually follow a
- 1:40:14YouTube who every time he says the word Salwin, he's a horror
- 1:40:20movie. He's a he like critiques horror
- 1:40:23movies. And every time that the he says
- 1:40:27the word salwin for any reason, he goes back to Halloween 5
- 1:40:35where Loomis is at the school. Yeah.
- 1:40:41Saying something and he goes. Somehow in his voice.
- 1:40:47He'll loop that in there every. Time, he says, sowing so funny,
- 1:40:54but it's like every. Time.
- 1:40:55I hear that, Sam and I roll my eyes.
- 1:40:59I'm like, Oh yeah, either learn. Or shut the.
- 1:41:04Hell up. All right, if you.
- 1:41:09If you could banish 1 trend, If you could banish 1 trend from
- 1:41:13modern Pagan social media, what would it be?
- 1:41:17Oh God. Right, I really don't know.
- 1:41:30Because I'm not on social media. Yeah, probably say just cloud
- 1:41:37chasing. Just chasing.
- 1:41:40Yes. Trying to.
- 1:41:43I'm trying, trying, trying to belittle people for no damn
- 1:41:47reason. Just the the, the you're angry
- 1:41:51just to be angry. Like just this culture of just
- 1:41:56bullshit. Yeah, I.
- 1:41:59Know I'm with you on that, the whole clout chasing thing, man.
- 1:42:01And like, let me stitch this video.
- 1:42:03Let me duet this fucker over here.
- 1:42:05Like, come on. Like, do something original,
- 1:42:09yeah. Put your heart.
- 1:42:11Into it. Don't just RIP off other
- 1:42:14people's shit and then throw something at it and call it a
- 1:42:19no. Yeah, put some work.
- 1:42:22Actually put in some effort. Yeah, last one I've got.
- 1:42:30Yeah. Put the work right, all right,
- 1:42:33so. The last one that I've got for
- 1:42:36you, you've put some. Time into.
- 1:42:41Following a heathen path, right? So I guess the last random thing
- 1:42:45I would say or I'd ask for you is if you could finish this
- 1:42:48sentence being. A heathen.
- 1:42:52Means. What would you say being a
- 1:42:57heathen? Means what to you?
- 1:43:08Being a haven means honoring myself, my gods, and my
- 1:43:18ancestors. Thank you man.
- 1:43:24Thank you for. That I think that.
- 1:43:27Resonates with a lot of. Folks that watch and listen to
- 1:43:29this, to this show because we are, we are, we are multifaceted
- 1:43:35and we deal with so many things within and without ourselves
- 1:43:41that you know, the heathen lifestyle or, or or heathen
- 1:43:45approach to, to things. Having a heathen view of the
- 1:43:49world embodies so many things. It, it indefinitely includes
- 1:43:54ourselves in the people around us.
- 1:43:56It in course, of course includes our gods, goddesses and our
- 1:44:01ancestors centrally almost important, more importantly than
- 1:44:06the gods in some senses, it's they are the ones who are
- 1:44:11closely invested to to what we're doing.
- 1:44:13So I think that's a great answer, I would say, I would
- 1:44:17say. Just.
- 1:44:18As. Important as the gods because
- 1:44:21without the gods none of us are possible.
- 1:44:24But without our ancestors, where would we be?
- 1:44:30Facts. You know, facts.
- 1:44:33Facts. Yeah.
- 1:44:35It's it's. You know that's.
- 1:44:36And that's a touchy subject for a lot of folks when it comes to
- 1:44:39ancestral veneration. People say, you know, well, what
- 1:44:42if my ancestors weren't the greatest people to remember or
- 1:44:46this or that? And I say to that, I say, well.
- 1:44:50You're. Not the you.
- 1:44:53You know your ancestors misdeeds are not yours to have to carry
- 1:44:57forth. You are here now to heal that
- 1:45:01hurt and to put to rest those dark times.
- 1:45:05You can be the one that is the change that your ancestral line
- 1:45:10needs. They were important for a.
- 1:45:13Reason they got. You here, but you don't have to
- 1:45:14carry that. I'll deed you can you?
- 1:45:16You can be the one to say it's done.
- 1:45:19We're done with that. It's over.
- 1:45:21We're moving on. Hurt people hurt people hurt.
- 1:45:23People, but you have a choice. You know you have a choice, so.
- 1:45:29You have a city in the matter, you have a big say in whether
- 1:45:33you hurt people or not and just. Because you were hurt doesn't.
- 1:45:38Mean that you have to continue the cycle.
- 1:45:42I I come from. A fairly rough upbringing, so.
- 1:45:49You know, and I. Don't try to go out of my way to
- 1:45:52hurt people because I was hurt, you know, no.
- 1:45:58You, don't you? Don't have to do.
- 1:46:00It no. If anything, that can be.
- 1:46:03The thing that the only thing was die.
- 1:46:07That's it. You don't even have to pay your.
- 1:46:10Taxes you get. In trouble.
- 1:46:12But you don't have to. That's what I'm saying, man.
- 1:46:16There are all consequences. For everything, whether it's
- 1:46:18good or bad, but you don't have to do anything but eventually
- 1:46:22die. That's it.
- 1:46:25So what are you going to do? And that's just.
- 1:46:29An introduction to a new journey in my point of view.
- 1:46:34Like, yeah, death is not the end.
- 1:46:38I don't fear. Death.
- 1:46:39Because it's just the beginning of my next journey, That's all
- 1:46:44it is. Absolutely, man, it's the next.
- 1:46:50It's the next level, you know, it's just, yeah, like you say,
- 1:46:54the next stage of your journey. Yeah.
- 1:46:57I don't. I don't.
- 1:46:59I don't know if I'll be reincarnated when I die, but if
- 1:47:02I do, then I'll just come back and begin a new journey.
- 1:47:07And if I don't, then I'll, you know, end up spending eternity
- 1:47:11in Helheim, continue my journey, you know, start a new one there.
- 1:47:18Wherever, wherever I end up, I'll just, you know, pick.
- 1:47:23Up the pieces and. Go from there.
- 1:47:26Yeah, Yeah, that's a whole. Other topic for a.
- 1:47:30Whole other day, man. That's a that's a deep 1 to get
- 1:47:32into. That's that.
- 1:47:33Well runs deep all that does. That's a three hour episode.
- 1:47:39At least at. Least, yeah.
- 1:47:43Listen, man. I'm going to, I'm going to leave
- 1:47:44you on here for just a second. I'm going to wrap things up
- 1:47:46because we've, we've gone for an hour and 45 minutes of really
- 1:47:49cool stuff, man. Thank you, first of all, for,
- 1:47:51for giving me this much of your time and hearing your story and
- 1:47:55hearing you talk about just your experiences and, you know,
- 1:47:58sharing with the world, my audience as far wide as it goes,
- 1:48:02a little bit about yourself. Thank you so very much for
- 1:48:08coming on. Here to do that.
- 1:48:10We talked about a lot of things that will resonate with people,
- 1:48:14so it's great to hear another person's perspective.
- 1:48:19So but stick. Around for just a minute.
- 1:48:22I'm going to touch base with you want to get done kind of
- 1:48:24finishing all this up here. But before I do, before I do
- 1:48:28that, are there any last parting words that you'd like to leave
- 1:48:33my audience with before we wrap this up?
- 1:48:41Knowledge is earned. And it should.
- 1:48:44Never be. It should.
- 1:48:47Never be anything else. Like knowledge is something you
- 1:48:50earn through research and. Homework and.
- 1:48:54You know, just excitement for something.
- 1:48:59So earn it. You know, earn it.
- 1:49:05Earn it. I can back that up.
- 1:49:07Man, that's good. That's a.
- 1:49:08Good one. And it's simple and it, and it's
- 1:49:11simplicity speaks volumes, right?
- 1:49:13People, earn your bones, earn your eat, earn, earn what you
- 1:49:17have, right? Earn your next meal, earn your
- 1:49:19life. It's a gift.
- 1:49:20All these things are gifts, so earn them.
- 1:49:24Earn. It all right so.
- 1:49:28Checking in from Ohio. Schizo Crow, thank you for being
