- 0:08Speaker 1: blind or other disabilities that make it difficult to read
- 0:12Speaker 1: print material. Today we will be reading from various books
- 0:15Speaker 1: on going back to school. Your reader today is Diane.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We will begin with the first book titled Froggy Goes
- 0:24Speaker 1: to School. It was published by Puffin Books, which is
- 0:28Speaker 1: part of Penguin Group Books for Young Readers. It has
- 0:32Speaker 1: a copyright year of nineteen ninety six and the author
- 0:36Speaker 1: of the book is Jonathan London. It was the first
- 0:40Speaker 1: day of school. Froggy woke up and looked out the window.
- 0:43Speaker 1: The sun was high in the sky. Oh no, the bus,
- 0:47Speaker 1: the bus, he cried, I'll miss the bus. He hopped
- 0:51Speaker 1: out of bed and flopped outside. Flop flop flop. The
- 0:55Speaker 1: school bus was leaving. Wait wait, he yelled, and took
- 0:59Speaker 1: a mighty hop. The bus hissed to a stop and
- 1:03Speaker 1: the door floated open. Froggy flopped up the steps, flop
- 1:07Speaker 1: flop flop. But when he reached the top, everybody laughed
- 1:10Speaker 1: and pointed their fingers. Froggy yelled his friend, Mix, what
- 1:18Speaker 1: did you forget? Something Froggy looked down hoops. He was
- 1:22Speaker 1: in his underwear. He dashed to the back of the
- 1:26Speaker 1: bus and hid behind Max's umbrella all the way to school.
- 1:30Speaker 1: At school, he hopped behind bushes. He tried to hide
- 1:34Speaker 1: behind the flagpole. He rolled down the hall like a
- 1:37Speaker 1: bowling ball, and in class he pretended to be a
- 1:41Speaker 1: flower pot. Froggy called his teacher what But it wasn't
- 1:46Speaker 1: his teacher at all. It was his father. Froggy rubbed
- 1:51Speaker 1: his eyes. He had been dreaming. He was still in bed.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Rise and shine, Froggy said his father. It is the
- 1:58Speaker 1: first day of school this time. Froggie got all dressed.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Zip zoops up zut zut zut zut. Then he flopped
- 2:06Speaker 1: into the kitchen flop flop flop. He tried to pour
- 2:10Speaker 1: milk on his bowl of flies, but the cart and
- 2:12Speaker 1: flew out of his hands. You're just nervous about school,
- 2:15Speaker 1: Froggy said his mother. Everybody is the first day, not me,
- 2:21Speaker 1: cried Froggy, and together they leap frogged all the way
- 2:24Speaker 1: to the bus stop flop flop flop. At school, Froggy
- 2:28Speaker 1: found his name tag on his table. He liked his name.
- 2:32Speaker 1: It was the first word he knew how to read.
- 2:34Speaker 1: It was the only word he knew how to read. Froggy.
- 2:38Speaker 1: He read it out loud, louder and louder. Froggy cried
- 2:43Speaker 1: the teacher, Miss Witherspoon, What hush, dear, It's time to
- 2:48Speaker 1: pay attention. But it was hard to pay attention. He squirmed.
- 2:53Speaker 1: He looked out the window at the falling leaves. He
- 2:55Speaker 1: felt like a leaf falling, falling flop. He fell out
- 2:59Speaker 1: of his oops. Kindly, stay in your seat, dear, said
- 3:03Speaker 1: Miss Witherspoon. We'll sit on the floor a circle time.
- 3:07Speaker 1: At circle time, Miss Witherspoon said, now, children, today, I'd
- 3:11Speaker 1: like to tell us. I'd like you to tell us
- 3:13Speaker 1: what you did last summer. Who wants to go first?
- 3:17Speaker 1: Froggy shouted me, Me, Me, and so did mix. Miss
- 3:21Speaker 1: Witherspoon went clap, clap, clap, and everybody went clap, clap,
- 3:25Speaker 1: clap with her. Then they grew very quiet. Now, one
- 3:30Speaker 1: at a time, said Miss Witherspoon. When Froggy's turn came,
- 3:34Speaker 1: he jumped up and said, last summer, I learned how
- 3:37Speaker 1: to swim, and he sang bubble, bubble, bubble too too. Chicken.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Airplane soldier everybody jumped up and joined in. Bubble bubble
- 3:46Speaker 1: too too. Chicken Airplane soldier went oh in, walked to
- 3:51Speaker 1: the principal, Mister Mugwarts Bubble bubble, Oops, cried Froggy, looking
- 3:58Speaker 1: more red in the face than green. Mister Mugwort glanced
- 4:01Speaker 1: at him, then he joined in Bubble bubble two Chicken
- 4:06Speaker 1: Airplane soldier till the bell rang for recess. When Froggy
- 4:11Speaker 1: flopped off the bus after school, his father said, Froggy,
- 4:15Speaker 1: how was your first day of school? Great? Said Froggy.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I taught the principal how to swim. Hmm, that's nice,
- 4:23Speaker 1: said his mother. But where's her lunch box and baseball cap? Oops?
- 4:28Speaker 1: I left them at school. Oh, Froggy, when will you
- 4:31Speaker 1: ever learn? Said his mother. That's why I'm going to school, mom,
- 4:35Speaker 1: And together they lead frogs all the way home. Flop
- 4:40Speaker 1: flop flop. Our next story is titled Back to School Tortoise,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and it was published by Albert Wentman and Company. It
- 4:50Speaker 1: has a copyright year of twenty ten and the author
- 4:53Speaker 1: is Lucy M. George. Summer was almost over. It was
- 4:58Speaker 1: time to go back to school. Tortoise got up, got dressed,
- 5:02Speaker 1: and had breakfast. Then he left for school, but he
- 5:06Speaker 1: started thinking. What if he tripped and fell, or he
- 5:09Speaker 1: didn't like lunch, or the kids were mean to him.
- 5:13Speaker 1: What if he tripped while getting lunch and all the
- 5:16Speaker 1: kids were mean to him. No, he decided, I can't
- 5:21Speaker 1: go in. He sat down by the door. But then
- 5:23Speaker 1: he started thinking. What if it was fun or lunch
- 5:27Speaker 1: was his favorite, or he made lots of new friends.
- 5:30Speaker 1: What if it was fun eating his favorite lunch with
- 5:34Speaker 1: all his new friends. I'll go to school, he decided.
- 5:38Speaker 1: He took a deep breath and opened the door. Good morning, everyone,
- 5:43Speaker 1: Tortoise said, as bravely as he could. Good morning, mister Tortoise.
- 5:48Speaker 1: They all shouted back. Our next story is titled May's
- 5:56Speaker 1: First Day of School and it was published by Abram's
- 5:59Speaker 1: Books for Young Readers and Imprint of Abrams. It has
- 6:03Speaker 1: a copyright year of twenty eighteen and the author of
- 6:07Speaker 1: the book is Kate Berrube. Today is May's first day
- 6:13Speaker 1: of school. When her mother said it's time to get dressed,
- 6:17Speaker 1: May said, I'm not going. When her father said eat
- 6:20Speaker 1: your breakfast, and when her mother said put on your coat,
- 6:25Speaker 1: May said I'm not going now, May, that's enough, said
- 6:30Speaker 1: her mother. On the walk to school, her mother told
- 6:33Speaker 1: her all about the fun things she would find there,
- 6:35Speaker 1: things like class pets and great big libraries and long,
- 6:39Speaker 1: wild recesses. On the walk to school, May thought about
- 6:42Speaker 1: all the things that could go wrong, things like what
- 6:45Speaker 1: if the other kids didn't like her? And what if
- 6:47Speaker 1: she was the only one who didn't know how to write?
- 6:50Speaker 1: And what if she missed her mother. When they got
- 6:53Speaker 1: to school, there were lots of other parents and kids outside.
- 6:56Speaker 1: May's mother said, hello, how are you? Today's May's very
- 7:00Speaker 1: first day of school, and what a beautiful day it is. Well,
- 7:04Speaker 1: isn't that wonderful? Said a man? But where is May?
- 7:09Speaker 1: May called her mother, where are you? And May answered,
- 7:13Speaker 1: I'm not going. May wondered if she could live in
- 7:16Speaker 1: this tree. She thought maybe she could. There was a
- 7:20Speaker 1: mossy spot she could sleep on, and she had a
- 7:22Speaker 1: whole lunch box full of food to eat. Then May
- 7:25Speaker 1: heard some rustling. Hello, said the small girl. Hello, said May, Rosie.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Come down from that tree right now. School is starting soon,
- 7:35Speaker 1: called the man from down below. I'm not going to school,
- 7:39Speaker 1: said Rosie. Me either, said May, would you like a cookie? Today?
- 7:44Speaker 1: Is May? And Rosie's first day of school, but they
- 7:48Speaker 1: are not going. Why aren't you going to school, asked
- 7:52Speaker 1: may Well, said Rosie, I'm not going because what if
- 7:55Speaker 1: no one will play with me? Or what if I
- 7:58Speaker 1: have to read and I don't know how, or what
- 7:59Speaker 1: if I miss my dad. Just then they heard the
- 8:02Speaker 1: rustling sound of someone else coming up. Hello, said the
- 8:06Speaker 1: tall lady. Hello, said Mae quietly. We're not going to school.
- 8:12Speaker 1: That's good, said the tall lady. I'm not going to
- 8:14Speaker 1: school either, and she settled comfortably into a spot on
- 8:18Speaker 1: the bottom branch and gazed out through the leaves. Who
- 8:21Speaker 1: are you, asked Rosie, I miss Pearl, said the tall lady.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Would you like a cookie? Miss Pearl asked may Yes, please,
- 8:30Speaker 1: said miss Pearl. Today is may and Rosie and Miss
- 8:34Speaker 1: Pearl's first day of school, but they are not going.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Miss Pearl. Why aren't you going to school, asked may Well.
- 8:43Speaker 1: She answered, I'm not going because what if the kids
- 8:45Speaker 1: don't like me? Or what if I forget how to
- 8:48Speaker 1: spell Tuesday? Or what if I missed my cat. May
- 8:52Speaker 1: smiled at Miss Pearl and Rosie. You know what, We're
- 8:55Speaker 1: all afraid of the same things. I'm glad I'm not
- 8:58Speaker 1: the only one me me too, said Rosie. And you
- 9:02Speaker 1: know what else, you don't have to be worried about
- 9:04Speaker 1: nobody liking you, because I like you both. Me too,
- 9:08Speaker 1: said miss Pearl. And you don't have to be worried
- 9:10Speaker 1: about making mistakes when you're reading and writing. Schools for
- 9:14Speaker 1: learning new things. And if we lived in this tree,
- 9:18Speaker 1: we'd miss our families anyway, said May. Plus we're out
- 9:21Speaker 1: of cookies, said Rosie. A few minutes later, May's mother
- 9:25Speaker 1: called up. School is about to start, and May said, okay,
- 9:30Speaker 1: here we come. Today is man Rosie and this Pearl's
- 9:34Speaker 1: first day of school, and here they go. Our next
- 9:39Speaker 1: story is titled Lola Goes to School and it was
- 9:42Speaker 1: published by Charles Bridge has a copywriter of twenty nineteen.
- 9:47Speaker 1: The author of the book is Anna mc quinn. Tomorrow
- 9:51Speaker 1: is a big day for Lola. She is starting school.
- 9:54Speaker 1: It will be a bit like story time at the library,
- 9:56Speaker 1: but Lola will stay by herself. Lola visited the school
- 10:00Speaker 1: last month. She knows what to expect. Nina gave Lola
- 10:04Speaker 1: fun pencils for school. Ty gave her a water bottle.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Lola wants to wear a party dressed to school. Mommy
- 10:11Speaker 1: says maybe not so. Lola chooses her jumping pants and
- 10:15Speaker 1: sunny top. Lola puts everything on her chair. She is
- 10:19Speaker 1: ready for the morning. Her bag is packed with her
- 10:22Speaker 1: new stuff and extra clothes just in case everyone gets
- 10:26Speaker 1: up super early. Lola puts Dinah in her bag. Now
- 10:30Speaker 1: she's ready. Time for photos. Miss Suzanne welcomes everyone. She
- 10:36Speaker 1: shows Lola where to put Dinah and the rest of
- 10:38Speaker 1: her things. Mommy sits with the other grown ups for
- 10:41Speaker 1: a little while. Lola has choices for what to do next.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Julia is reading. Lola decides to read too. The story
- 10:49Speaker 1: gives Lola an idea. Lola and Julia run to the
- 10:53Speaker 1: dress up box. Now they are superheroes. Mommy said goodbye
- 10:58Speaker 1: and went home. She will be back later. Lola hugs Dina.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Soon as snack time everyone sits to eat. Lola and
- 11:07Speaker 1: Julia build a castle. After snack time, Ali and Ten
- 11:12Speaker 1: join in. Loland knows the song and all the motions
- 11:15Speaker 1: at circle time. Next, they sing a goodbye song. Mommy
- 11:20Speaker 1: is waiting. It is time to go home. Mommy gives
- 11:24Speaker 1: Lola a big hug. They say goodbye to Miss Suzanne
- 11:27Speaker 1: and Julia. Loland Mommy, have a snack at home. School
- 11:31Speaker 1: is fun but exhausting. Sh Lola has fallen asleep. Her
- 11:38Speaker 1: next door is titled Sophie's Squash Go to School. It
- 11:43Speaker 1: was published by schwartzen Waite Books, an imprint of Random
- 11:47Speaker 1: House Children's Books, a division of Penguin Random House. It
- 11:52Speaker 1: has a copyright year of twenty sixteen. The author of
- 11:55Speaker 1: the book is pat Zett Lowe Miller. On the first
- 12:00Speaker 1: stay at school, Sophie peeked into her classroom. Kids were everywhere, talking, laughing, bouncing.
- 12:07Speaker 1: You'll make lots of friends, said her mother. Sophie clutched
- 12:11Speaker 1: her backpack. I won't, she said. You'll have tons of fun,
- 12:15Speaker 1: said her father. But Sophie didn't. The chairs were uncomfortable,
- 12:20Speaker 1: the milk tasted funny, and no one appreciated her two
- 12:23Speaker 1: best friends, Bonnie and Boxter. Are those toys? Asked Limb.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Do they bounce? Asked Rashnee. Can we eat them? Asked Mariene. No,
- 12:35Speaker 1: said Sophie. No, no, no. I grew them in my garden.
- 12:40Speaker 1: They're my friends. And then there was Stephen Green. He
- 12:43Speaker 1: sat by Sophie at circle time, playing Your Sophie during
- 12:47Speaker 1: recess and watch Sophie painted, stop breathing on me. Sophie said.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Stephen's just trying to be nice, said miss Park, But
- 12:56Speaker 1: Sophie wasn't interested. So the next time Steve then appeared,
- 13:01Speaker 1: Sophie bounced Bonnie and Baxter on her knees and said,
- 13:04Speaker 1: already have friends me too. Stephen said, he put out
- 13:09Speaker 1: a stuffed frog from behind his back. I got Marvin
- 13:12Speaker 1: when he was a tadpole. Sophie nodded, then you don't
- 13:16Speaker 1: need me. Well, she thought that's that. But the next day,
- 13:21Speaker 1: while she was building a tower, Stephen worked on a
- 13:24Speaker 1: puzzle nearby. The day after that, he peered over Sophie's
- 13:27Speaker 1: shoulder when she looked at books. He even chimed in
- 13:30Speaker 1: with little known facts. When it was Sophie's turn to
- 13:34Speaker 1: show and share, he said, actually squash her fruits and
- 13:39Speaker 1: not vegetables. Sophie's parents were no help at all. Steven
- 13:44Speaker 1: sounds adorable, said her mother. And it's good to have friends,
- 13:48Speaker 1: especially human ones, added her father. Sophie hugged Bonnie and
- 13:52Speaker 1: Baxter tightly. I have all the friends I need. Still,
- 13:57Speaker 1: sophiek new Bonnie and Baxter wouldn't last forever, so when
- 14:00Speaker 1: Liam showed everyone how to do his loose tooth dance.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Sophie considered joining in. When Rashnie spilled her milk, Sophie
- 14:09Speaker 1: almost shared her napkin, and when Ireene told her favorite
- 14:12Speaker 1: banana joke, Sophie laughed inside her head. But during recess, Liam, Roschen,
- 14:19Speaker 1: and Noreene jumped rope while Sophie played hopscotch with Bonnie
- 14:22Speaker 1: and Baxter. Can we play two, asked Stephen Green. Marvin's
- 14:26Speaker 1: good at hopping, Sorry, said Sophie. Frogs make Baxter sneeze,
- 14:33Speaker 1: so Stevens sat alone. That weekend, Bonnie and Baxter looked
- 14:37Speaker 1: tired to hop or bill towers. It's time, said Sophie's mother.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Sophie made a garden bed and tucked her squash in
- 14:45Speaker 1: for their winter nap. Sleep tight, She said, see you soon,
- 14:50Speaker 1: but springs seemed very far away. On Monday, Sophie drew
- 14:55Speaker 1: squash babies until Miss Parker asked an interesting question. What
- 15:00Speaker 1: makes a good friend? They play with you, asked Liam,
- 15:04Speaker 1: They help you, suggested Roshnee. They think you're funny, as Noren.
- 15:10Speaker 1: They like what you like, said Stephen Green. Great answer,
- 15:14Speaker 1: said Miss park Let's draw pictures. Of our friends. Sophie
- 15:19Speaker 1: drew Bonnie and Baxter. She was sprinkling matching glitter when
- 15:23Speaker 1: Stephen Green appeared. Can I see no, Sophie said, it's private. Please.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Stephen tugged the picture. Sophie tugged back. Then they tugged
- 15:34Speaker 1: at the same time. Rip. Sophie tried not to cry.
- 15:39Speaker 1: You are not my friend, she said. For the rest
- 15:43Speaker 1: of the day, Sophie didn't talk to Stephen Green. She
- 15:46Speaker 1: didn't talk to anyone until she saw her mother after school.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Sweet Potato said Sophie's mother, That adorable boy didn't mean
- 15:55Speaker 1: to tear your picture. He is not a good friend,
- 15:58Speaker 1: Sophie said, and neither is his frog. The next morning,
- 16:02Speaker 1: Sophie found Marvin and her cubby holding an envelope. Hop
- 16:06Speaker 1: somewhere else, she said, And by lunchtime he had. When
- 16:10Speaker 1: Sophie's father opened her backpack that night, Marvin and his
- 16:14Speaker 1: envelope were inside. Sugar Plummy said, this must be for you.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Sophie opened the envelope. She found a picture of Bonnie
- 16:22Speaker 1: and Baxter in a pocket of seeds. Do friends really
- 16:25Speaker 1: like the same things you like? She asked her father.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Sometimes he said, Oh, said Sophie. She thought for a
- 16:34Speaker 1: long time. Then she took Marvin outside and said, by
- 16:37Speaker 1: Bonnie and Baxter. In thought some more. As soon as
- 16:41Speaker 1: she got to school, Sophie found Stephen Green. Your frog
- 16:44Speaker 1: had a great idea, she said, and she whispered in
- 16:47Speaker 1: his ear. During recess, Sophie, Stephen, and Marvin met with
- 16:52Speaker 1: Miss Park. The next day. Miss Park gave everyone a cup,
- 16:55Speaker 1: some dirt and one small seed. What are these, Noriene asked,
- 17:00Speaker 1: We'll see, Sophie replied, Can we eat them? No? Sophie said,
- 17:05Speaker 1: you never eat a friend, added Stephen. Soon the seas
- 17:09Speaker 1: were plant in dirt Philpotts, Stephen added water, and Sophie
- 17:13Speaker 1: set them in the sun. Nothing's happening, said Rashnee. But
- 17:17Speaker 1: before too long tiny shoots appeared. Sophie and Stephen did
- 17:21Speaker 1: a new plant dance and invited everyone to join in. See.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Sophie told Stephen sometimes growing a friend just takes time.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Our next book is called The Poutfish Goes to School
- 17:40Speaker 1: and it was published by for Our Strausskerok's Books for
- 17:45Speaker 1: Young Readers. It has a copyright year of twenty fourteen.
- 17:51Speaker 1: The author of the book is Jebra Dison, a long
- 17:55Speaker 1: time ago, when mister fish was very small, he headed
- 17:58Speaker 1: off to school for the first time of with a
- 18:00Speaker 1: smooch from his parents and excited for his day. Mister
- 18:04Speaker 1: Fish rushed in and then he lost his way. The
- 18:07Speaker 1: big fish around him knew exactly where to go, finding lockers,
- 18:11Speaker 1: finding classes in a fast, smart flow. Mister Fish left
- 18:15Speaker 1: behind with his grin sinking thin. Finally stopped at the
- 18:18Speaker 1: doorway and he shinly, shyly looked in. The class was
- 18:22Speaker 1: doing writing and most everybody knew it, so he tried
- 18:25Speaker 1: to print his name, but he just couldn't do it,
- 18:29Speaker 1: so he flubbed flubb frown, making blood love bubbles. Then
- 18:32Speaker 1: he plopped down his pencil when he counted off his troubles.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Trouble one, I'm not smart, Trouble two, I'll never get it,
- 18:40Speaker 1: Trouble three I don't belong so far I should forget it.
- 18:45Speaker 1: He floated with the frown down the long corridor. Then
- 18:48Speaker 1: he sneak peeked a look through another room door. The
- 18:52Speaker 1: class was drawing shapes. Almost everybody knew it, so he
- 18:56Speaker 1: tried to make a rhombus, but he just couldn't do it,
- 19:00Speaker 1: so he flubbed flub frown, making blood love bubbles. Then
- 19:03Speaker 1: he plopped down his pencil and he counted off his troubles.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Trouble one, I'm not smart. Trouble two, I'll never get it.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Trouble three I don't belong, so four I should forget it.
- 19:14Speaker 1: He drifted down the hallway with a doubt, doubt face
- 19:17Speaker 1: till he spied another doorway. Maybe this was his place.
- 19:21Speaker 1: The class was doing math and most everybody knew it.
- 19:25Speaker 1: So he tried long division, but he just couldn't do it.
- 19:28Speaker 1: So he fluffed, flubbed, frown, making blood blood bubbles. Then
- 19:32Speaker 1: he plopped down his pencil and he counted off his troubles.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Trouble one, I'm not smart, Trouble two, I'll never get it.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Trouble three I don't belong, so four forget it. He
- 19:43Speaker 1: rushed toward the exit. That's enough, I say school is
- 19:47Speaker 1: way too tough and I'm not going to stay. Then
- 19:50Speaker 1: his soft, kind voice said, don't you for it. You
- 19:53Speaker 1: don't have to know things you haven't learned yet. Your
- 19:56Speaker 1: classroom awaits. I'm your teacher, miss Hewett. I'm here to
- 19:59Speaker 1: help you, and I know that you can do it.
- 20:02Speaker 1: You're a fish who is smart. With practice, you will
- 20:05Speaker 1: get it, young Fish, you belong. Don't you ever forget it.
- 20:09Speaker 1: The student and the teacher swam a spliss splash swish
- 20:12Speaker 1: to door with the sign marked brand new Fish. Miss
- 20:16Speaker 1: Hewitt said, good morning. I'm excited you're all here together.
- 20:20Speaker 1: We will have a spectacular year. Fact one you are smart.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Fact two you can get it. Fact three you belong,
- 20:27Speaker 1: so four don't forget it. The class got to work
- 20:30Speaker 1: and Miss Hewitt helped them through it. They listened, and
- 20:33Speaker 1: they tried, and everyone could do it. Mister Fish gave
- 20:37Speaker 1: a grin goodbye, blood bubbles. No more doubt, doubt, worry,
- 20:40Speaker 1: no more fluve fluff troubles. He swam with his class.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Miss hewittt by his side as the students and their
- 20:47Speaker 1: teacher said, with confidence and pride. Fact one we are smart.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Fact two we can get it, Fact three we belong,
- 20:54Speaker 1: and four we won't forget it. Our next book is
- 20:59Speaker 1: Bunny Ane's Book Club Goes to School, and it was
- 21:04Speaker 1: published by Double Day Books for Young Readers in print
- 21:08Speaker 1: of Ringham House Children's Books as a copyright year of
- 21:11Speaker 1: twenty nineteen and the author's Amy Silverstrow. Bunny's Book Club
- 21:17Speaker 1: met in the library every Saturday. Bunny and his forced
- 21:21Speaker 1: friends arrived even before the librarian. They couldn't wait to
- 21:24Speaker 1: return the books they had borrowed and to pick out
- 21:27Speaker 1: new ones. They always found lots to do at the library.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Porcupine had discovered arts and crafts, and Bird loved the
- 21:35Speaker 1: audio books. Raccoon typed at a computer, while Baron mouse
- 21:39Speaker 1: knows through cookbooks, and Frog put puzzles together. Squirrels searched
- 21:43Speaker 1: the highest shelves as mole mined below, and Bunny well.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Bunny had made a new book buddy. A little girl
- 21:50Speaker 1: named Josie also came to the library every Saturday. She
- 21:53Speaker 1: recommended books to Bunny and helped him with the hard words.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Bunny loved Josie almost as much as he loved books.
- 22:00Speaker 1: His friends loved her too. One crist cool day, Josie
- 22:04Speaker 1: slumped down into the pillow pile beside Bunny. I start
- 22:08Speaker 1: my new school next week, she said. Bunny's ears perped up.
- 22:11Speaker 1: He had read all about school. I'm so nervous, she continued.
- 22:16Speaker 1: What if I don't make any friends who would want
- 22:18Speaker 1: to be your friend? Sputtered Bunny. Bunny hated to see
- 22:22Speaker 1: Josie worry. He wanted to help, but how That night,
- 22:26Speaker 1: as he hopped into bed, an idea popped into his head.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Josie needed a friend. Bunny was a friend. That was it.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Monday morning, Bunny bounced out the door and right into Porcupine.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Where are you off to, Porcupine asked school, said Bunny.
- 22:43Speaker 1: It's Josie's first day and she needs a friend. I'm
- 22:46Speaker 1: her friend, said Porcupine. I'll come too. I suppose two
- 22:50Speaker 1: friends are better than one, said Bunny. So off they went.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Along the way, they bumped into Bear. We're going to school,
- 22:57Speaker 1: said porcupine. Want to come? Oh, brother, said Bunny. Don't
- 23:02Speaker 1: get your whiskers in a twist, said porcupine. Three friends
- 23:06Speaker 1: are better than two. But then three friends turned into four,
- 23:10Speaker 1: then five, then six, seven, eight, and nine when they're new.
- 23:15Speaker 1: When their crew reached town, Bunny came to halt. School
- 23:19Speaker 1: was bigger than he thought. He scanned the crowd and
- 23:22Speaker 1: shook his head. No way, we're gonna find her, he said. Then,
- 23:26Speaker 1: as the last of the students swarmed inside, Bunny spotted Josie.
- 23:31Speaker 1: There she is, He called, let's go. The animals quickly
- 23:34Speaker 1: darted after her, but by the time they reached the door,
- 23:38Speaker 1: Josie was gone. They peeked into classroom after classroom. That's her,
- 23:43Speaker 1: Squirrel said. Everyone tumbled into the gymnasium, but it wasn't Josie.
- 23:49Speaker 1: A ball whizzed over their heads. They couldn't resist jumping
- 23:52Speaker 1: and dodging and dunking until Bunny blew a whistle. We
- 23:56Speaker 1: have a job to do, he said. Come on. The
- 23:58Speaker 1: animals hurried out, except for squirrel. I'm gonna hang out
- 24:02Speaker 1: here just another minute, she said. A song floated down
- 24:05Speaker 1: the hall, and Bird followed the notes. I think it's Josie,
- 24:09Speaker 1: she trilled in tune, and she fluttered into the music room.
- 24:13Speaker 1: But it was another false alarm. I'll stay to help
- 24:16Speaker 1: with the harmony for a bit, said Bird. Just then
- 24:20Speaker 1: a delicious smell waved it through the air. All this
- 24:23Speaker 1: searching is making me hungry, said Bert. Maybe Josie's having lunch,
- 24:28Speaker 1: asked Mouse, But she wasn't. We'll catch up with you,
- 24:32Speaker 1: said Bear. Hm, hm, mumbled mouse. Every time they thought
- 24:36Speaker 1: they saw her, it turned out to be a mistake.
- 24:38Speaker 1: And whorse, Bunny's friends kept getting distracted. Raccoon crept into
- 24:43Speaker 1: the computer room, Frog leaped into the water fountain. Mo
- 24:47Speaker 1: dug into the science lab, and still there was no
- 24:50Speaker 1: sign of Josie. Looks like it's just you and me, porcupine,
- 24:54Speaker 1: sighed Bunny. Porcupine, but Bunny was too late. Porcupine had
- 24:59Speaker 1: dipped into the arm room and now he was stuck.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I suppose one friend is better than none, said Bunny sadly.
- 25:06Speaker 1: He continued down the corridor, and that's when he saw it.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Bunny's heart hopped. He burst into the school's library. It
- 25:13Speaker 1: smelled like home. He' spot his favorite book, then another
- 25:17Speaker 1: and another. There were news stories too, just waiting to
- 25:20Speaker 1: be read. Bunny gleefully rang his paws across them all,
- 25:24Speaker 1: then paused at the end of the shelves. Just then Porcupine, bird, frog, bear, mouth, smoke,
- 25:31Speaker 1: raccoon and squirrel toppled into the library. We knew we'd
- 25:36Speaker 1: find you here, said porcupine. It's Josie, shouted Bunny, pointing
- 25:41Speaker 1: to the playground. Look. Bear held open the back door.
- 25:45Speaker 1: The animals ran out and dashed to the jungle gym.
- 25:48Speaker 1: They caused quiet a kerfuffle, which caused Josie to look
- 25:53Speaker 1: up and smile. She hugged her friends. They hugged her
- 25:57Speaker 1: right back. Want to play as Joe, Josie, you bet,
- 26:01Speaker 1: said Bunny. Soon everyone joined in. The fun bear cost
- 26:05Speaker 1: a bit of a delay. They raced and chased all
- 26:07Speaker 1: around until recess was over. Before heading back inside, Josie
- 26:12Speaker 1: grabbed Bunny's paul. Thank you, she whispered. Bunny beamed. Josie
- 26:17Speaker 1: lined up with her class. See you Saturday, she called.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Bunny waved goodbye. He could see Josie had made lots
- 26:24Speaker 1: of new friends, and so had he. This concludes our
- 26:29Speaker 1: children's story ire for today. Please twent us next time
- 26:32Speaker 1: as we will read more stories, fables and fairy tales.
