- 0:23Well, hey guys, good afternoon.

- 0:28from Encore State University campus.
- 0:30First of all, I am on campus, so
- 0:32there may be some noise.
- 0:33There may be some people roller skating, rollerblading,
- 0:37rollerboarding, what have you.
- 0:39And there may be some noises around, but
- 0:41you know, it's great to be here as
- 0:43the weather is hopefully starting to warm up
- 0:45a little bit.
- 0:46You see, I don't have gloves on today.
- 0:47So it's great to be with you.
- 0:48This is your very first time with me.

- 1:00the content that I put on.
- 1:02And it is great to be with you.
- 1:03And we're going to be moving along to
- 1:05other places like coffee shops, restaurants.

- 1:12our show from it, let me know.
- 1:14We would love to broadcast from your facility.
- 1:19All right, guys, if you're thirsty, if you're
- 1:21hungry or what have you, go get something.
- 1:24And coming back, I wouldn't want you to
- 1:25be famished now, would I?
- 1:27Don't forget to check out BelieveMeAchieved.com for
- 1:30more of my amazing, of course, inspiring creations.
- 1:34We do that 24 hours a day after
- 1:35the series five, show 10, episode number five.
- 1:42The master topic for the week is own
- 1:45your choices, folks.
- 1:46Clarity, courage and calmness.
- 1:49Today's theme, Wednesday.
- 1:52It's all about resilience, recovery and growth.
- 1:55Who am I?
- 1:55Well, I'm John Seymour.
- 1:57I'm a serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video
- 2:00producer, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, lifelong passionate
- 2:06learner and yes, pretty soon a graduate student.
- 2:08Like I said, we are on a live
- 2:10campus here at Montgomery University.
- 2:11So you will hear people talking.
- 2:13You'll hear people walking.
- 2:14You may hear people roller skating.
- 2:16That's just kind of what you get when
- 2:18you broadcast from a live campus.
- 2:20So today I'm diving into resilience, recovery and
- 2:24yes, growth.
- 2:26So how do you bounce back, recharge and
- 2:28turn challenges into momentum?
- 2:30I think that's a hard thing for a
- 2:31lot of people.
- 2:32Sometimes your day feels like it's a million
- 2:35miles ahead of you and you're like, I
- 2:37just want to stop, but you can't.
- 2:40It's like you're on this merry-go-round,
- 2:41right?
- 2:41But you can't get, you can't get off.
- 2:43So the important thing is to just let
- 2:46those things drop off you very similar to
- 2:49warm or cold water in the shower.
- 2:51Just let it roll down your back and
- 2:53everything will be okay.
- 2:55So resilience and recovery is what we're about
- 2:57right now.
- 2:58And resilience allows you to bounce back stronger
- 3:02and get ahead of the setbacks as they're
- 3:06just training grounds, guys.
- 3:08Don't get frustrated by that because the more
- 3:11frustrated you get, the more, well, the more
- 3:14you're going to get off your path.
- 3:16Recovery restores energy for progress.
- 3:19Pauses aren't weaknesses.
- 3:21They're fuel, guys.
- 3:22They are fuel.
- 3:23So growth comes from learning, not from what
- 3:29you would think, which is avoiding failure.
- 3:31Mistakes are a roadmap.
- 3:34I'd like to think of mistakes as, well,
- 3:37kind of part of the journey.
- 3:40Avoid forbidden paths, guys, that harm your mental
- 3:43health.
- 3:44Distractions and shortcuts, well, they just deplete your
- 3:47power.
- 3:48And I think that's an important thing to
- 3:49recognize and understand up front.
- 3:51So resilience builds confidence under pressure.
- 3:54Stress reveals truly what you can handle.
- 3:58Recovery prevents burnout, guys.
- 4:00Long-term performance relies on strategic rest.
- 4:05Yes, rest is important, not just once, but
- 4:08strategically resting.
- 4:09Growth compounds when deliberate small daily improvements multiply
- 4:14your results.
- 4:17Small daily recoveries prevent exhaustion.
- 4:21Even five minutes, guys, just five minutes a
- 4:24day taking time out.
- 4:26Maybe it's walking.
- 4:27Maybe it's meditating.
- 4:29Maybe it's just taking some deep breaths like
- 4:31I told you about the, you know, the,
- 4:33basically it was the technique of the, of
- 4:36the, I think I gave you the four,
- 4:38two, six.
- 4:39So you basically inhale for four, hold for
- 4:42two, and out for six.
- 4:44Doing that a few times is a great
- 4:46stress reliever and can definitely get you grounded
- 4:49and re-centered.
- 4:50Avoid toxic habits, guys.
- 4:52They drain resilience and clarity.
- 4:56So resilience strengthens problem solving.
- 4:59Mental toughness improves decision making.
- 5:03And, you know, you can't always change the
- 5:05environment around you and you shouldn't try, but
- 5:08if something is bothering you or you don't
- 5:09like your environment, well, then it's time to
- 5:11leave that environment and go somewhere else.
- 5:15Recovery maintains clarity.
- 5:17Step back to see the bigger picture in
- 5:19life.
- 5:20Growth flourishes from experience.
- 5:23Wisdom accumulates through action and reflection.
- 5:25I told you we're on a live campus.
- 5:27So right now somebody's backing up a truck.
- 5:29Different people are walking around and all kinds
- 5:31of things are happening.
- 5:32So I'm right now in the little patio
- 5:36or courtyard between the student center and the
- 5:40graduate building, which is right over here to
- 5:42my left, your right, and over to my
- 5:45right and your left is the Montgomery University
- 5:47student center.
- 5:48And then all the way over to my
- 5:49far left, right, and your far left would
- 5:52actually be the computer science center.
- 5:56So yes, avoid shortcuts, ladies and gentlemen, with
- 6:00temporary gains.
- 6:01They cost long-term progress.
- 6:03And I think that's an important thing for
- 6:05us to all understand is that the short
- 6:07-term, let's say, immediate gratification that you get
- 6:12might not be as rewarding as waiting for
- 6:15the long-term one.
- 6:17Resilience, guys, turns obstacles into opportunities.
- 6:21Challenges are your teachers.
- 6:23Don't walk away from challenges.
- 6:25Challenges are one of the most important things
- 6:28that you have in your life to help
- 6:31you elevate and escalate to something even better.
- 6:35Recovery, replenish, just focus, guys.
- 6:37Energy is your competitive advantage.
- 6:40Energy is your advantage.
- 6:41Everything around us is energy.
- 6:43So growth, ladies and gentlemen, requires deliberate effort.
- 6:48Discipline beats inspiration.
- 6:50Now I know inspiration is great and it's
- 6:52a good thing, but if you don't have
- 6:54inspiration and you don't have discipline, well, you
- 6:57kind of get fizzled out.
- 6:59But discipline is key.
- 7:01Inspiration gets you to want to have the
- 7:03discipline, but if you only have just the
- 7:05inspiration, you don't have the discipline, you're going
- 7:08to constantly be stopping.
- 7:10Maybe starting again, but you're going to be
- 7:11stopping a lot.
- 7:12But I think that's an important thing.
- 7:14So our next point is avoid negative influences.
- 7:17Protect your mind and your momentum.
- 7:20I don't care whether it's people, there are
- 7:22peers around you, whether it's adults, whether it's
- 7:26people younger than you, it doesn't really matter.
- 7:29Maybe they're a political figure, maybe they're a
- 7:31leader, a teacher, doesn't matter what they are.
- 7:35Resilience, guys, maintains performance.
- 7:39So keep going when others quit because people
- 7:43are going to quit.
- 7:44And my book that's coming out in just
- 7:47less than 60 days, I'm not telling you
- 7:50the title yet.
- 7:51There's only a chapter or two left to
- 7:52finish up on it and then it goes
- 7:53to final proofing and then it gets released.
- 7:55But what I want to tell you is
- 7:57that it talks about what happened in my
- 7:59life 10 years ago and how I didn't
- 8:02give up, how I kept going.
- 8:03But that's all I'm going to share with
- 8:04you right now about the book.
- 8:05I don't want to let the cat out
- 8:06of the bag about the book.
- 8:07I'm not even sharing the title about the
- 8:09book.
- 8:10So yeah, you're going to have to just
- 8:11stay tuned.
- 8:12But I am going to let you know
- 8:13that Jason Academy is in the works and
- 8:16Jason Academy will probably be launched very soon,
- 8:19well before the book is up.
- 8:21And that's going to be the new home
- 8:22for Inspirations for Your Life because, you know,
- 8:24Inspirations for Your Life really didn't have its
- 8:26own home.
- 8:28You know, we have the BelieveMeAchieve.com, but
- 8:29we really didn't have a place for Inspirations
- 8:32for Your Life to live.
- 8:33You know, like my tech show has the
- 8:35tech site to live at, but Inspirations for
- 8:37Your Life didn't have its own place.
- 8:40Now it will.
- 8:42Recovery creates space for decisions.
- 8:46Clarity follows rest.
- 8:49Clarity follows rest.
- 8:53When you rest, your brain has a chance
- 8:56to, let's say, come back to something and
- 9:01see it in a different light, maybe get
- 9:03a different perspective over what it really is.
- 9:06Because when we look at something when we're
- 9:08tired, even when we're studying and we're tired,
- 9:10we miss the point.
- 9:12Not because we're not smart or anything like
- 9:14that.
- 9:15It's because we have to recognize our brain,
- 9:17our body needs a break.
- 9:19All right?
- 9:20And growth, guys, accelerates with wise reflection.
- 9:24Analyze the setbacks in your day so you
- 9:28can take actionable insights.
- 9:30It's not about pounding yourself on the head.
- 9:32It's not about scolding yourself.
- 9:34It's about looking where you went and what
- 9:38pivots can you make.
- 9:40A lot of times it's not changing your
- 9:42entire direction.
- 9:44It might just be pivoting a little bit
- 9:45to the right or a little bit to
- 9:46the left.
- 9:47All right?
- 9:48The next point, guys, is avoid behaviors that
- 9:51undermine consistency.
- 9:53I think a lot of times, you know,
- 9:55we want to be consistent, but for some
- 9:57reason we fall short of that goal because
- 10:01of the environment, because of people around us,
- 10:05because of, yeah, even peer pressure.
- 10:07So avoid the behaviors that undermine consistency.
- 10:11Small, poor choices will compound.
- 10:14Just like big choices will compound, so will
- 10:16the small choices compound.
- 10:18And I think that's an important thing for
- 10:20us to understand and to recognize.
- 10:23Resilience strengthens emotional endurance, guys.
- 10:26Stability matters under pressure.
- 10:29You know, that's probably one of the most
- 10:30important times stability matters, is when you have
- 10:33pressure, when there's stress.
- 10:35You think that you got to respond one
- 10:37way quickly because of what somebody's saying to
- 10:41you.
- 10:42And I want to tell you that you
- 10:44have every right to take a break.
- 10:46You have every right to get away from
- 10:49that situation and give yourself a clear head.
- 10:53All right?
- 10:53I think a lot of people feel that,
- 10:55well, you know, if I do that, that's
- 10:56not adult.
- 10:57Well, I want to tell you something.
- 10:58It is more adult to excuse yourself and
- 11:01get away from that situations or walk away
- 11:03and analyze them and then come back and
- 11:06figure out, well, which way should I be
- 11:08going or which way am I supposed to
- 11:12be going?
- 11:12And that can come by just spending some
- 11:15time alone and meditating.
- 11:17Maybe a walk in the park does.
- 11:19I know that does wonders for me.
- 11:21Recovery sustains momentum, guys.
- 11:24A paused mind keeps moving forward.
- 11:28Okay?
- 11:29So when we pause our mind, we have
- 11:33a chance to regain our composure, to understand
- 11:38what's going on around us.
- 11:40Noises, sounds, people, light, right?
- 11:46Different temperatures.
- 11:48Growth builds character over time.
- 11:52Now, persistence is visible in our habits, but
- 11:56you know that persistence does not happen overnight,
- 11:58guys.
- 11:59No, it does not.
- 12:00Persistence happens when we show up every single
- 12:04day.
- 12:05All right?
- 12:06This is why I want to tell you
- 12:07something.
- 12:07I want to tell you it's important to
- 12:09avoid the shortcuts that weaken learning.
- 12:12Mastery is earned.
- 12:13It's not stolen.
- 12:15It's not something anybody could take away from
- 12:18you.
- 12:19And learning doesn't happen just by coming out.
- 12:22You got to put some work in, and
- 12:26then what happens is it goes in your
- 12:27short term, and eventually after doing it long
- 12:29enough, it goes to your long-term memory,
- 12:31and it becomes a skill that, yes, no
- 12:34one can take away from you.
- 12:36Resilience allows calm, under-challenged control, and your
- 12:41response to external stress is key.
- 12:44So maybe you've been in a fire before,
- 12:47right?
- 12:47And when the fire happens, unfortunately, everyone's stressed.
- 12:51Why?
- 12:51Because you're being reactive.
- 12:53You're not being proactive.
- 12:55I can tell you this.
- 12:58There have been people that have been in
- 12:59fires.
- 12:59More people will be in fires.
- 13:01If you understand what they are and you
- 13:04prepare what to do in a fire, like
- 13:08we've talked about this before, like having an
- 13:10escape plan, knowing what to do, most importantly,
- 13:14not panic.
- 13:14You remember the dog in the commercial on
- 13:16TV, stop, drop, and roll?
- 13:18Well, that's great, okay?
- 13:20But there's more to it than just stop,
- 13:22drop, and roll, right?
- 13:23We've got to have a mindset that actually
- 13:26puts us in a position where we're calm,
- 13:29where we can respond.
- 13:30Let me ask you a question.
- 13:32If you're trying to make a decision and
- 13:34you're calm, it's very easy, right?
- 13:36But what if you've got a million people
- 13:37around you asking questions, or you've got all
- 13:40this stress or pressures around you?
- 13:42Maybe you're planning a party.
- 13:43Everything's going fine and that's great, but maybe
- 13:46some things are happening like, I don't know,
- 13:48the venue just canceled because they had a
- 13:50flood, or because they double booked you by
- 13:52accident, or because maybe the DJ suddenly can't
- 13:56make it there because he got double booked,
- 13:58or something else, or maybe something happened to
- 14:01him and his team and they can't perform
- 14:03for your wedding or your special party.
- 14:06When these things happen to us and they
- 14:08domino, it starts to build our adrenaline up
- 14:12in a negative way.
- 14:14That's a stress kind of adrenaline.
- 14:15We have adrenaline that's positive, but we also
- 14:17have adrenaline that's negative.
- 14:19If it builds up in a negative way,
- 14:22it's like, oh my gosh, what am I
- 14:23supposed to do now?
- 14:24I don't know what I'm supposed to do.
- 14:25I have no clue.
- 14:27When we sit back, when we take a
- 14:30breath, we actually can find out that we've
- 14:34got more power than we think.
- 14:37Recovery restores alignment with the goals and aspirations
- 14:41you have, and reflection prevents deviation.
- 14:46Reflection is something you should be doing every
- 14:49day.
- 14:49I do it before I go to sleep
- 14:50every night.
- 14:51Maybe you want to reflect before you start
- 14:54a new project, or maybe when you leave
- 14:58one environment to another.
- 14:59It could be home to school, school to
- 15:00home, or maybe even your office to your
- 15:04home.
- 15:04Maybe you want to just have that moment
- 15:06inside your head, and that can help you
- 15:09get on track.
- 15:10A lot of people out there, their motus
- 15:13is to push buttons and get a reaction
- 15:16from you.
- 15:16I think I explained one to you the
- 15:18other day, I had a client that was
- 15:19pushing buttons on me.
- 15:21In the past, pushing those buttons would have
- 15:23got a rise out of me.
- 15:25After the last couple of years, I've realized
- 15:29there's no point in getting upset.
- 15:32There's no point in trying to win.
- 15:35All there is, is the opportunity to basically
- 15:38be calm.
- 15:39When you're calm, and when you're in the
- 15:40moment, other people realize that what they're doing
- 15:44is not affecting you.
- 15:45It's not doing anything for you.
- 15:47Like I said, we are on a live
- 15:48campus here at Montgomery State University.
- 15:50If you're hearing people walk by, if you're
- 15:52hearing people on rollerboards, if you're hearing people
- 15:55talk or scream or whatever, again, we're right
- 15:58in the thick of the university, right between
- 16:00class changes.
- 16:01Growth thrives, guys, on repetition.
- 16:06Practice compounds skill.
- 16:08People say to me, John, how many times
- 16:09do I have to practice?
- 16:11You need to practice until what you're trying
- 16:14to do becomes almost automatic, until it becomes
- 16:18a positive habit of yours that just happens
- 16:22with just a thought or with just a
- 16:25slightest bit of effort.
- 16:27Avoid distractions, guys, that stall progress.
- 16:30Energy is finite, okay?
- 16:34It is your job to guard it.
- 16:37It's your job to guard it.
- 16:39And it doesn't mean you have to guard
- 16:41it in a nasty way.
- 16:42When I have people that come on for
- 16:45a pre-chat to be on this show
- 16:47or my other show, I used to, many
- 16:49years ago, just take anybody that comes on,
- 16:51and I would find a way.
- 16:52Now I'm like, okay, have you watched any
- 16:55of our shows?
- 16:57Oh, no, I haven't had a chance.
- 16:59I understand.
- 17:01We take our shows pretty seriously, and we'd
- 17:04like to make sure there's an alignment between
- 17:06you and our show and our guests.
- 17:10And that's what I need you to do
- 17:12so we can move forward.
- 17:13So I'm going to go ahead and end
- 17:15the pre-interview today, but you're welcome to
- 17:17come back after you've watched one of our
- 17:18shows and figured out where the alignment is
- 17:21and how it should connect, all right?
- 17:23So resilience, recovery, and growth, guys, together create
- 17:28unstoppable momentum.
- 17:29Your habits define your trajectory.
- 17:34Yeah, they do.
- 17:35So practical takeaways to apply today, I think
- 17:39is an important thing we should talk about
- 17:41now.
- 17:42Start by scheduling intentional pauses to recharge.
- 17:48You might get up in the morning and
- 17:50find that suddenly things are moving too fast.
- 17:53That means that you're not being present in
- 17:55the moment.
- 17:57Okay?
- 17:58Present in the moment means that you are
- 18:00focused on what you're doing right now.
- 18:04If you're hearing noises, again, maybe you need
- 18:07to go to a different space.
- 18:08Whatever it is, you need to be focusing
- 18:11on what those things are right now.
- 18:13And now I have people left side, right
- 18:15side actually rollerboarding.
- 18:16So it's interesting.
- 18:17So that's why you're hearing a little bit
- 18:18of those rollerblading around me.
- 18:21So when we think about an intentional pause,
- 18:23an intentional pause is not a punishment.
- 18:25An intentional pause is where you decide that
- 18:29you want to take time out and maybe
- 18:32just unplug and quiet those chattering monkeys in
- 18:36your mind, because those chattering monkeys are actually
- 18:39churning your thoughts and making you anxious.
- 18:43And what happens when you get anxious, you
- 18:45get frustrated, you make wrong decisions.
- 18:47Like what I told you about that wedding
- 18:49venue or that partying venue, right?
- 18:51And things happening.
- 18:52When those things happen, the most important thing
- 18:54to do is to pull away and to
- 18:57take a deep breath and come back and
- 18:58say, okay, they double booked.
- 19:00What other venues can I book at?
- 19:02Or the best band we have, there's a
- 19:05problem with them.
- 19:06So we got to find somebody else.
- 19:08Not a big deal.
- 19:10And when you approach it in that fashion,
- 19:13people are going to be more willing to
- 19:16work with you.
- 19:17Your attitude is going to be different.
- 19:20So again, start by scheduling intentional pauses to
- 19:25recharge.
- 19:25That could be a five or 10 minute
- 19:27pause.
- 19:27It could be a walk.
- 19:28Maybe when you go to the office, instead
- 19:31of you rushing right in, you sit in
- 19:32the car for a few minutes, or maybe
- 19:34you walk around the parking lot for a
- 19:36few minutes.
- 19:36You get there a little bit early, maybe
- 19:40after or something.
- 19:42And doing these things alone will bring you
- 19:45closer to your ground itself.
- 19:49So now what I want you to do
- 19:50guys, I want you to identify one toxic
- 19:53habit to eliminate this week.
- 19:55What's that toxic habit?
- 19:57Maybe you fly off the handle.
- 20:00Maybe that happens to you.
- 20:01Maybe you're still saying yes to everybody because
- 20:04you're trying to be that pleaser.
- 20:06You don't need to be that pleaser.
- 20:08You don't need to do things that are
- 20:16toxic.
- 20:17So think about a few things, but identify
- 20:22one toxic habit to eliminate this week.
- 20:25And stick to it.
- 20:27Make it a promise to yourself that you're
- 20:29actually going to do this, not just today,
- 20:31not just tomorrow, but for the entire seven
- 20:33days.
- 20:35And I'll tell you something, after seven days
- 20:36and you see how your energy is better,
- 20:37let's try for another seven days.
- 20:39So when people commit to do something for
- 20:41a week, a month, a quarter year, they
- 20:44don't stick to it.
- 20:45But if I say, hey, do something for
- 20:46seven days, seven days isn't a lot of
- 20:48time.
- 20:49And what happens is it becomes part of
- 20:51your internal process that you don't mind doing
- 20:54it because it's giving you some results.
- 20:56Reflect guys on a recent setback and just
- 20:59extract one or two actionable lessons.
- 21:02So I have one right now, one where
- 21:04somebody was not being nice to me.
- 21:07I have forgiven the person for what they've
- 21:10done.
- 21:10Did I forget about it?
- 21:11No, but I've forgiven them.
- 21:13I've discharged it.
- 21:15And the setback was me over many years
- 21:21ago thinking that because of their disempowerment, I
- 21:26was disempowered.
- 21:27And that was an illusion that I had,
- 21:29but they made me believe that.
- 21:32And then I realized that that was just
- 21:34something I was hanging on to.
- 21:35It was a method to fit my
- 21:51core value.
- 21:52One day, a micro goal might be something
- 21:55like go somewhere.
- 21:57I am going to listen more.
- 22:00I'm going to be more calm.
- 22:02Track your energy levels, and track your energy
- 22:06leaks daily to protect your focus.
- 22:10You might say, John, I don't have time
- 22:12to do that.
- 22:13Well, if you don't have time to plug
- 22:15the leaks in your life, you're going to
- 22:19stay exactly where you are.
- 22:20You might even fall backwards.
- 22:22So I say this to you not as
- 22:24a punishment, but as something to hopefully open
- 22:27your eyes and your mind to say, you
- 22:28know what?
- 22:29I get what John's saying.
- 22:31I have to listen more than I speak.
- 22:34I have to be more respectful around.
- 22:38I have to start letting myself say no.
- 22:42And when I sense people pushing my buttons,
- 22:44I need to not yell or argue with
- 22:46them.
- 22:46I need to distance myself from the situation.
- 22:49End the conversation.
- 22:51Politely doesn't have to be nasty.
- 22:53Just because somebody's trying to abuse or harm
- 22:59you mentally does not mean you need to
- 23:02be nasty toward them, but it doesn't mean
- 23:05you need to protect your energy.
- 23:07Your energy is priceless, guys.
- 23:10And as I sit here and I just
- 23:14look around the campus and I see different
- 23:15people walking from one spot to another spot.
- 23:19I see people on different skateboards.
- 23:26I see some people on their phone walking
- 23:29and talking.
- 23:30I see other people kind of with their
- 23:32heads down.
- 23:33I see some people just kind of chilling,
- 23:36holding their dinner as they're walking home.
- 23:38I see some people sitting on a bench.
- 23:41I see some other people sitting at a
- 23:45student table here waiting to talk to people
- 23:48about some group that they run on campus.
- 23:52I see all the buildings around campus just
- 23:54kind of very peacefully just sitting on the
- 23:58grounds.
- 24:00And I also look up and I see
- 24:01this wonderful sky.
- 24:03Oh, and there's an airplane just off to
- 24:05my left or right.
- 24:06And as I look around and I just
- 24:08kind of see what happens right now.
- 24:10I saw somebody on a skateboard.
- 24:11I saw them actually fall off the skateboard.
- 24:14And I just take notice to all these
- 24:16different things around me, people looking at me
- 24:18as I'm broadcasting and things like that, saying,
- 24:20you know, what's he doing?
- 24:21But I think these are important things.
- 24:24Awareness is a big component of my book.
- 24:26And when you get my book, you definitely
- 24:28will see why I've talked about awareness, but
- 24:30awareness becomes a key component to our success
- 24:35in life.
- 24:36Everyone has the ability to notice awareness, but
- 24:39they don't because either they're afraid, they think
- 24:45it's going to be something different, right?
- 24:49I think the reason people don't embrace awareness
- 24:54is because they're scared.
- 24:58It may be different.
- 25:00It might be harder.
- 25:01It might change the person to whom you
- 25:06are right now.
- 25:08And again, looking around campus and just seeing
- 25:10more people walking as we're getting close to
- 25:13another class time starting soon and just seeing
- 25:15people walking and just noticing the pace.
- 25:18Most people are walking across campus very leisurely,
- 25:23very casually, not really running to go anywhere.
- 25:27I see another group of friends sitting at
- 25:28a table over there, just kind of having
- 25:31something to eat and talking with some of
- 25:33their friends.
- 25:34And I think that's the important thing to
- 25:36notice.
- 25:37Everyone that I'm noticing on campus, everyone on
- 25:39campus is moving very slowly.
- 25:43And I think that's another great thing about
- 25:45college is when you're walking around campus, okay,
- 25:49you get a chance to be part of
- 25:52the environment.
- 25:55And, you know, when people say, oh, gee,
- 25:56you know, I'm going to school.
- 25:57And I had forgotten this because when I
- 25:58was at college, when I was in my
- 26:00undergrads, there was an environment, but I didn't
- 26:05realize like what the environment really meant because
- 26:10I was always busy rushing to class.
- 26:11But now I'm starting to appreciate what an
- 26:14environment is and how we take, let's say,
- 26:18time to appreciate and enjoy it.
- 26:20Right now, I'm actually hearing people laughing.
- 26:23I'm hearing some chimes from, I think there's
- 26:25a bell clock tower at one of the
- 26:27buildings here.
- 26:28And just noticing these things is a very,
- 26:32you know, interesting thing.
- 26:34And right now it's donging.
- 26:36That's going to dong four times because it's
- 26:38actually just right about four o'clock.
- 26:40And so when we think about all this
- 26:41stuff and we think about, you know, people
- 26:46walking around and we think about the speed
- 26:48and we saw there's a bird just flying
- 26:50right now, the bird just kind of, and
- 26:51he's flying up to one of the tops
- 26:53of the lights here in the patio courtyard
- 26:58area.
- 26:59And just noticing that and maybe noticing different
- 27:03colors around.
- 27:05Okay.
- 27:07I want to let you guys know that
- 27:09resilience and recovery is not a myth.
- 27:12You can do it if you really want
- 27:14to.

- 27:32you go backwards.
