- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to The Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: My guess is that just like me and pretty much everybody else, you probably have a lot on your mind these days.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: After all, there's a lot going on in the world right now.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: But today I want to share a tip, a very, very simple tip, that will instantly give you more mental energy to use for writing and the creative projects that you care most about.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: And this tip is very, very simple, as I mentioned.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: And here it is.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Stop investing emotional energy in things you can't control.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Let's take any controversial headline from the news, for example.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Whatever it is, you can bet that millions of people invested vast amounts of emotional energy commenting, posting, and being upset about whatever the situation is.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: We could apply this to 15 different situations happening in our country and around the world right now.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Now, do I have opinions about many news items?
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Well, sure I do.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I'm human.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: But I don't give them very much emotional energy, if any.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Because I don't have control over any of those situations.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: But it's not just the big news items that this principle applies to.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: This also applies to ground-level circumstances that don't affect you personally.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: For example, let's say you have two friends who have a disagreement with each other, but it doesn't involve you.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Now, could you get involved?
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Well, sure.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: But what good would that actually do?
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Probably it will just end by both people being upset with you because you got involved in their disagreement.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: And you will have damage both relationships while also expending unnecessary energy.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: The bottom line here is that there's no benefit to you being upset about a situation that you can't change.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: It's a lot more helpful to take that emotional energy and use it for your writing, your business, your marriage, your parenting, or dozens of other things that you can actually do something about.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: If you get on social media, three seconds on any social media platform will tell you instantly that most people don't have the ability to emotionally regulate themselves these days.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: They get upset about dozens of things, they make posts, they complain, and they rant, but then they don't have the mental bandwidth for the things that actually matter and things they can actually control in their life.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: It's pretty exhausting to constantly be upset about things that you can't change.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: But you know what's really energizing?
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: It's really energizing to free your mind of those concerns and focus on things in your life that you can actually change, such as your relationships, your energy, your writing, your health, and your business.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: It doesn't mean that we have to be callous and uncaring, but it does mean that we're pragmatists at heart.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: We recognize that we have limited energy and it has to be invested where it can do some actual good in our lives and also in the broader world.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: I want you to have as much success as possible in your life, your writing, and your business.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: And that's why I recommend setting aside as much as you can your anxiety and worry about things that you can't control.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: And I estimate that whenever you take this approach, it can give you up to a 20% boost in your mental energy on any given day.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Give this a try, and I think that you're going to notice the big difference.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: I would love to know how this works for you, actually.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: So you can shoot me an email at Kent at KentSanders.net, and I would love to hear if this works for you.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks so much for listening.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Keep writing, keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
