- 1:44Speaker 1: entertainment news. World Series Game 5. The Rays rallied in
- 1:51Speaker 1: the bottom of the 12th inning last night at the
- 1:54Speaker 1: Trop to win 4-3 and force a Game 5. Tampa's
- 2:00Speaker 1: announced that Drew Rasmussen will be the starter on three
- 2:04Speaker 1: days rest. 31-year-old right-hander threw 89 pitches in Game 2
- 2:10Speaker 1: with no decision.
- 2:11Speaker 6: Uh.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Jacob Mizorowski, the flame-throwing youngster from Milwaukee on his regular rest.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And he will get the ball for game five for
- 2:26Speaker 1: the Brewers tonight. That game will start a little after
- 2:31Speaker 1: 7 o'clock. Major League Baseball Players Association announced their Players'
- 2:38Speaker 1: Choice Award winners today. Jordan Alvarez, the comeback player of
- 2:44Speaker 1: the year and the AL most outstanding player. Alvarez hit.
- 2:51Speaker 1: 316 with 42 home runs and 106 runs batted in.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Mike Elko reiterated on today's SEC teleconference that Marcel Reed
- 3:04Speaker 1: is still the team's starting quarterback. The Aggies, of course,
- 3:09Speaker 1: are off this week before traveling to South Carolina to play.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Sam Houston has fired its head football coach, Phil Longo.
- 3:20Speaker 1: The Bearcats just won in seven, including a loss last night.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Let's see. There will be co-head coaches, defensive coordinator Freddie Autry-Lindsey,
- 3:36Speaker 1: And associate head coach Eric Raisbeck will finish the season
- 3:41Speaker 1: for the Bearcats. Speaking of coaching changes, there have been
- 3:46Speaker 1: rumors about Lincoln Riley. Lincoln Riley said today, if I
- 3:51Speaker 1: didn't want to be at this place, I wouldn't have
- 3:53Speaker 1: come here in the first place. I've had plenty of
- 3:56Speaker 1: opportunities here. This is where I want to be. This
- 4:01Speaker 1: is the right place for me. I'm the right person
- 4:04Speaker 1: to be here. Riley's in year five and has gotten
- 4:09Speaker 1: plenty of blowback because, you know, they haven't done what
- 4:17Speaker 1: they're paying him to do, which is win all the games.
- 4:22Speaker 1: The Trojans host Ohio State this week. Texas Tech Board
- 4:27Speaker 1: Chairman Cody Campbell, who has been in a war of
- 4:31Speaker 1: words with people on the interweb since the Red Raiders
- 4:36Speaker 1: were upset by Cincinnati. Campbell immediately tweeted, this is unacceptable,
- 4:43Speaker 1: leading to speculation. Well. Head coach Joey McGuire got the
- 4:49Speaker 1: dreaded vote of confidence today with Campbell saying he isn't
- 4:53Speaker 1: going anywhere. If anything, we're ready, willing, and able to
- 4:58Speaker 1: double down on him. He said absolutely nothing is going
- 5:02Speaker 1: to change at the head coaching position at Texas Tech.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Keep that quote handy, by the way, with Cody Campbell.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Alabama defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. has been kicked off
- 5:15Speaker 1: the team after a second arrest. Kalen DeBoer made that
- 5:20Speaker 1: announcement when Kirkpatrick was arrested Friday for allegedly threatening a
- 5:27Speaker 1: police officer. DeBoer says after gathering more information, Drake Kirkpatrick Jr.
- 5:34Speaker 1: will no longer be a part of our program. He
- 5:36Speaker 1: did not live up to the standards and expectations I've
- 5:40Speaker 1: set for this team and our players. He allegedly sent
- 5:43Speaker 1: threatening messages to an Alabama police officer who arrested him
- 5:48Speaker 1: last year. In his initial arrest, three counts of reckless
- 5:53Speaker 1: endangerment Attempting to elude and speeding. More college football tonight.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Kennesaw State against Middle Tennessee. And Jacksonville State at New
- 6:09Speaker 1: Mexico State. The headlines just continue, by the way. North
- 6:18Speaker 1: Texas is playing tomorrow night. And Baylor... is at Central
- 6:23Speaker 1: Florida on Friday night. So we've got that going on
- 6:28Speaker 1: for us, which is nice. Aggie basketball player Rylan Griffin
- 6:34Speaker 1: had an injunction hearing at the Brazos County Courthouse today.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Judge John Brick says he will read over the material
- 6:43Speaker 1: and will email an order later today. Griffin has been
- 6:50Speaker 1: playing under a temporary restraining order. The injunction would grant
- 6:55Speaker 1: him extra time, which was received by Jordan Pope a
- 6:59Speaker 1: couple of weeks ago. Pope started in the exhibition game
- 7:03Speaker 1: against SMU on Sunday. Griffin did play. He didn't play
- 7:09Speaker 1: a ton, but he did play in that game. And
- 7:14Speaker 1: one of the good guys of the broadcasting business is
- 7:18Speaker 1: retiring as host from inside the NBA. Ernie Johnson Jr.,
- 7:24Speaker 1: with a social media video, said it's his decision to
- 7:28Speaker 1: step away at the end of this season. And in
- 7:32Speaker 1: his words, it's just time. Johnson is 70, says he'll
- 7:36Speaker 1: continue to work, including the NCAA men's basketball tournament. for
- 7:42Speaker 1: CBS and TNT. Just to be clear, said Johnson, I'm
- 7:46Speaker 1: not retiring, just cutting back. I'll forever cherish every chapter
- 7:51Speaker 1: we've written with inside the NBA. Johnson acknowledged he has
- 7:56Speaker 1: dealt with heart issues in recent years. He had a
- 7:59Speaker 1: bypass 14 months ago. He said simply, I just want
- 8:04Speaker 1: to slow down a little bit.
- 8:07Speaker 5: He is.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Like I said, there aren't many in this business, but
- 8:11Speaker 1: he's one of the good ones. And I don't care
- 8:15Speaker 1: about the NBA, but I'll tell you how good he is.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I watch inside the NBA when I can. Yes, I do.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Just to see him and Shaq and Charles Barkley and
- 8:28Speaker 1: Kenny the Jet Smith. It's probably the greatest sports... kind
- 8:39Speaker 1: of collaborative show in my mind on television. Like I said,
- 8:44Speaker 1: it has to be good because I really don't follow
- 8:47Speaker 1: the NBA. I just want to see those guys together
- 8:49Speaker 1: because they're just really good. They were with TNT forever.
- 8:53Speaker 1: TNT was cut out by the NBA and ESPN gave
- 9:02Speaker 1: them a chance to continue on ESPN. All right. We're
- 9:07Speaker 1: going to take a break tomorrow on the program. Jared
- 9:13Speaker 1: will be here. And also, let's see. Friday on the program,
- 9:22Speaker 1: Ryan is back. I will have my regular weekly visit
- 9:28Speaker 1: with Tony Catalina and also with Kirk Bowles. Next week
- 9:34Speaker 1: on the program, Bill O'Reilly will join us to talk
- 9:38Speaker 1: about his newest book, Confronting America. All right, we're going
- 9:42Speaker 1: to take a break. We're going to come back. This
- 9:44Speaker 1: portion of the show is brought to you by ANCO Insurance.

- 11:05Speaker 4: Well, it's a bloody merry morning, baby. Left me without
- 11:09Speaker 4: warning sometime in the night.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Stan does that on purpose to see if I'll just,
- 11:15Speaker 1: you know, just grab my phone. It's like Pavlov's dog
- 11:19Speaker 1: because he knows that's my ringtone. So there you go.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Glad to be with you here on a Wednesday edition.
- 11:30Speaker 1: We told you with an off week with Aggie football,
- 11:33Speaker 1: we're going to delve a little into some basketball. Played
- 11:38Speaker 1: a little Cal yesterday. Right now, we're going to hear
- 11:43Speaker 1: from Florida coach Todd Golden. Now, this was from the
- 11:47Speaker 1: SEC media days. Florida is one of the teams that
- 11:53Speaker 1: is a Final Four and potential national championship favorite. getting
- 12:00Speaker 1: players back that they've had, getting players from the portal.
- 12:06Speaker 1: The Gators are going to be salty again this year.
- 12:10Speaker 1: They didn't quite get there last year. Golden is going
- 12:14Speaker 1: to talk a little bit about that as well. Hey, Todd.
- 12:20Speaker 10: Anthony Christensen, wholehawksports.com. Just curious, you retained Boogie Fland going
- 12:25Speaker 10: into this year. Just Looking back on when you brought
- 12:28Speaker 10: him in, just what did you see in him there,
- 12:29Speaker 10: and how do you feel like he's grown into the
- 12:31Speaker 10: player he is now as you head into the new year?
- 12:34Speaker 11: Yeah, Buggs, he's been great for us. I think when
- 12:37Speaker 11: we brought him into our program, he had big shoes
- 12:40Speaker 11: to fill, replacing our perimeter who all got drafted in
- 12:43Speaker 11: the NBA and coming after kind of an injury-plagued year
- 12:47Speaker 11: at Arkansas. I feel like he did a good job
- 12:50Speaker 11: kind of learning from that experience and obviously led us
- 12:53Speaker 11: in our backcourt to a one seed last year and
- 12:55Speaker 11: did a really, really nice job in conference play. And
- 12:58Speaker 11: I'm excited for Boog and our program to get him
- 13:00Speaker 11: for a second year. I think that continuity and kind
- 13:03Speaker 11: of being able to continue to build a partnership with
- 13:06Speaker 11: me and the rest of our program will suit him
- 13:08Speaker 11: really well for a successful season this year.
- 13:11Speaker 5: Left side, back row.
- 13:12Speaker 7: Hey, Coach.
- 13:12Speaker 5: Abby Miller with Reflector at Mississippi State.
- 13:14Speaker 11: After leading your team to 16-2 in conference play last season,
- 13:17Speaker 11: what are you implementing to remain that high standard this season? Well,
- 13:21Speaker 11: a big key was our ability to retain our best
- 13:25Speaker 11: players and getting Tommy Kondo and Ruben back give us
- 13:28Speaker 11: a leg up in that regard. And bringing Denzel Aberdeen
- 13:32Speaker 11: back has been a huge lift for our program. And
- 13:35Speaker 11: we retain, I think, six or seven of our top
- 13:39Speaker 11: eight or nine. So we had some really good continuity
- 13:40Speaker 11: that way. Bringing Denzel back adds to that. And I
- 13:44Speaker 11: think for us, it's just understanding that just because we
- 13:47Speaker 11: did it last year, it's not going to be as
- 13:48Speaker 11: easy to do it again. So that challenge is in
- 13:51Speaker 11: front of us. I think for myself and the players,
- 13:54Speaker 11: you know, we have a goal to win the league again. And,
- 13:56Speaker 11: you know, we know it's going to be a really
- 13:57Speaker 11: hard challenge.
- 13:59Speaker 5: On the right fourth row.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Tom Meyer, Metcalf ESPN. What's your level of confidence that
- 14:03Speaker 1: Denzel will be available with all of the legal stuff
- 14:05Speaker 1: attached to his situation?
- 14:07Speaker 11: Well, he's eligible right now. He won his temporary injunction.
- 14:10Speaker 11: You know, the NCAA is trying to keep him from
- 14:15Speaker 11: playing just like any other person in that class, which
- 14:19Speaker 11: is a conversation for a different day. But we remain
- 14:21Speaker 11: very confident. I think Denzel, first of all, I think
- 14:24Speaker 11: he has the best facts of anybody in America in
- 14:26Speaker 11: regards to these five for five situation. He's a great
- 14:29Speaker 11: legal team that put an incredible argument forward. And so
- 14:33Speaker 11: we're planning on having him and we feel good about it.
- 14:36Speaker 5: We'll go on the second row here in the middle.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Neil Blackman, Basket Under Review.
- 14:45Speaker 12: Todd, obviously the NCAA has spent millions of dollars just
- 14:48Speaker 12: trying to keep these class of 2022 players from playing.
- 14:54Speaker 12: One of the arguments they make consistently is that.
- 14:58Speaker 5: It would cause chaos to let them play.
- 15:02Speaker 12: Do you feel like it's caused chaos, like the lawsuits themselves?
- 15:08Speaker 12: How has that affected how you're roster building next year
- 15:10Speaker 12: considering they're letting the players next year play a fifth season?
- 15:14Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a.
- 15:15Speaker 11: Really difficult situation to navigate, and I believe the current
- 15:23Speaker 11: stance of the NCAA taking is the situation that's causing
- 15:27Speaker 11: the chaos right now. I think when you have a
- 15:31Speaker 11: rule that clearly states that players get five years of
- 15:35Speaker 11: eligibility within a five-year clock, but you're trying to arbitrarily
- 15:38Speaker 11: carve out a class to prevent chaos when said chaos
- 15:42Speaker 11: has never been shown and really any examples across America
- 15:46Speaker 11: or across any sports. I mean, there's a lot of
- 15:50Speaker 11: points in this discussion that don't make a lot of
- 15:53Speaker 11: sense to us. The NCAA has marketed and spent millions
- 15:57Speaker 11: of dollars promoting the Protect College Sports Act, and if
- 16:00Speaker 11: that were to pass, the class of 22 athletes would
- 16:03Speaker 11: be eligible to play. So there's some kind of give
- 16:07Speaker 11: and take into where that doesn't make any sense while
- 16:09Speaker 11: they're trying to prevent them from playing, but in the
- 16:11Speaker 11: same time arguing that this act should pass in which
- 16:13Speaker 11: they would be eligible. and the displacement argument, it's factually inaccurate.
- 16:20Speaker 11: There's going to be displacement next year. I think the
- 16:23Speaker 11: biggest thing that I think is kind of confused with
- 16:26Speaker 11: this is they talk about congestion at the top and
- 16:30Speaker 11: that we need freshmen to be able to come up.
- 16:32Speaker 11: The congestion in the power leagues is, in my opinion,
- 16:36Speaker 11: derived from the transfer legislation. When guys have the ability
- 16:40Speaker 11: to be free agents every year, Us as coaches who
- 16:44Speaker 11: manage these programs have to do what we think is
- 16:46Speaker 11: best to give ourselves the best chance to win. And
- 16:49Speaker 11: I don't think it's that hard to understand that when
- 16:51Speaker 11: you have older guys, seniors, juniors, those guys, generally speaking,
- 16:56Speaker 11: there's some really talented freshmen out there, but those guys
- 16:58Speaker 11: are going to give you the best chance. So as
- 17:00Speaker 11: long as guys and gals are able to transfer every year,
- 17:03Speaker 11: I think there's going to be that compression felt. And
- 17:07Speaker 11: the displacement argument, again, we're going to have– Next year
- 17:10Speaker 11: in the cycle, there's not anybody leaving. There's not anybody
- 17:14Speaker 11: leaving with a whole class of high school kids coming in.
- 17:17Speaker 11: So I think you could maybe argue next year there's
- 17:21Speaker 11: going to be some displacement if that's where you want
- 17:22Speaker 11: to go. But, you know, I think there's just a
- 17:25Speaker 11: lot of misguided arguments and none that really make a
- 17:27Speaker 11: lot of sense to keep the 22 class out of
- 17:30Speaker 11: competition this season.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Left side, third row.
- 17:33Speaker 13: Jack Hogan, KSR. This time last year, we talked about
- 17:36Speaker 13: Denzel Aberdeen leaving. Now we're talking about him coming back.
- 17:39Speaker 13: How did those conversations start back up again back in
- 17:41Speaker 13: the spring, and how easy was it? to bring him
- 17:45Speaker 13: back even with some of the legal hurdles that were
- 17:48Speaker 13: going to come?
- 17:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:50Speaker 11: You know, Denzel, as you know, covering Kentucky, is an
- 17:53Speaker 11: incredible young man, you know, a great kid. You know,
- 17:57Speaker 11: when he left, obviously we were disappointed to see him go,
- 18:00Speaker 11: but there was never, like, any ill will. You know,
- 18:03Speaker 11: he remained really, really close with the guys on the team.
- 18:06Speaker 11: You know, they were and still are great friends. And
- 18:09Speaker 11: so as soon as the season was over, he reached
- 18:12Speaker 11: out to one of the guys on the team and
- 18:13Speaker 11: asked what it would look like or if we had
- 18:16Speaker 11: any interest in bringing him back because he had already
- 18:19Speaker 11: had the mindset that he was going to fight for
- 18:20Speaker 11: a fifth year and try to get a waiver because
- 18:22Speaker 11: he only played 40 minutes as a freshman. And of
- 18:26Speaker 11: course we were excited to bring him back. You know,
- 18:28Speaker 11: we thought that he would win the waiver. Um, but
- 18:30Speaker 11: even then we thought he had a great case from
- 18:32Speaker 11: a five for five standpoint. And, uh, you know, the
- 18:35Speaker 11: guys seamlessly took him back. We had conversations with every
- 18:37Speaker 11: guy on our team about bringing him back and not
- 18:40Speaker 11: one guy wanted to leave, uh, with him coming back.
- 18:42Speaker 11: So I think that speaks to him as a person,
- 18:45Speaker 11: you know, kind of the character of our program and
- 18:46Speaker 11: that the guys wanted to have him back. And, uh,
- 18:48Speaker 11: It's been awesome having him. He's playing great. He looks awesome.
- 18:53Speaker 11: I think he's going to be a big addition to
- 18:55Speaker 11: our team this year.
- 18:57Speaker 1: On the right, fifth row.
- 18:58Speaker 6: Dana O'Neill with CNN Sports. Todd, as your profession kind
- 19:03Speaker 6: of evolves, how deep into the weeds are you getting
- 19:05Speaker 6: into learning things like legalese and economy and fair market
- 19:10Speaker 6: value and temporary restraining orders. I mean, you're throwing all
- 19:12Speaker 6: these words out that are not what basketball coaches are
- 19:14Speaker 6: meant to talk about. But how deep in the weeds
- 19:16Speaker 6: are you getting into all of that stuff?
- 19:18Speaker 11: Well, it's a really important part of our program. So
- 19:21Speaker 11: I'm getting pretty deep into it. This legal situation is
- 19:25Speaker 11: something that sparks my interest a little bit. My father
- 19:28Speaker 11: is an attorney. I grew up around it. And, you know,
- 19:32Speaker 11: I truly just believe that the class of 22 deserves
- 19:34Speaker 11: to play, especially at this point with Everybody started school.
- 19:39Speaker 11: Everybody's in the middle of their semesters. There's not guys
- 19:42Speaker 11: or gals just hanging out there waiting to see if
- 19:45Speaker 11: Wisney wins to kind of jump back and re-enroll and play.
- 19:49Speaker 11: We're long past. that conversation that was taking place in
- 19:52Speaker 11: May and June. So at this point, the NCAA is
- 19:56Speaker 11: trying to argue that they're trying to prevent chaos, but
- 19:58Speaker 11: they're really causing it, as Coach Rick Barnes talked about yesterday.
- 20:02Speaker 11: But yeah, I believe it's my job as the leader
- 20:05Speaker 11: of this program to have a really good understanding of
- 20:07Speaker 11: what we're up against and what we're arguing, what we're
- 20:09Speaker 11: fighting for. And so I've taken a pretty big interest
- 20:14Speaker 11: in the legal portion of what we're going through right
- 20:16Speaker 11: now in college sport.
- 20:19Speaker 5: Go in the middle here, third row.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Kevin Skarbinski with the SEC blog. Todd, does the way
- 20:27Speaker 1: last season ended, is that the kind of motivation that
- 20:30Speaker 1: can carry over, or is that completely in the rearview mirror? Both,
- 20:34Speaker 1: I guess I would say.
- 20:36Speaker 11: You know, I don't necessarily think we needed that loss
- 20:39Speaker 11: to create motivation, but at the same time, I think
- 20:42Speaker 11: we've done a good job of, you know, taking the
- 20:46Speaker 11: positives out of it, which, you know, transparently, I'm not
- 20:48Speaker 11: sure we get Tommy, Ruben, and Kondo back if we
- 20:50Speaker 11: make a deep run last year. I think those guys... uh,
- 20:53Speaker 11: you know, are probably ready to move on, but that,
- 20:55Speaker 11: you know, bad taste in their mouth, uh, you know,
- 20:57Speaker 11: provided us an opportunity to kind of get this group
- 20:59Speaker 11: back together for one last try, uh, which is amazing
- 21:02Speaker 11: and definitely, uh, you know, a great spin off the
- 21:05Speaker 11: way last year ended. Uh, but I think we're doing
- 21:08Speaker 11: a good job kind of using that as a learning experience.
- 21:11Speaker 11: You know, I didn't coach well enough in the tournament game.
- 21:13Speaker 11: I don't think our players, you know, competed to their
- 21:15Speaker 11: best and, uh, you know, we have an opportunity to
- 21:18Speaker 11: try to get it right this year. And, uh, It's really,
- 21:21Speaker 11: really hard to win at a high level. I think
- 21:23Speaker 11: just because we get these guys back, it doesn't guarantee
- 21:25Speaker 11: that we're going to make the Final Four, but we
- 21:27Speaker 11: have a better chance. I think we understand that having
- 21:31Speaker 11: this group together for one last run is a special opportunity,
- 21:34Speaker 11: and we're doing everything we can to not let it
- 21:37Speaker 11: slip or not take as full advantage of it as
- 21:39Speaker 11: we should.
- 21:40Speaker 5: We have a final question here on the second row
- 21:42Speaker 5: in the middle.
- 21:44Speaker 12: Todd, obviously last year, Kondo was a first-team preseason All-American,
- 21:49Speaker 12: and this year he's not first-team All-SEC.
- 21:53Speaker 1: But he finished really strong last year.
- 21:54Speaker 12: I think he was a top-ten Ken Palm player last
- 21:57Speaker 12: month of the year, had a bunch of MVPs. What
- 21:59Speaker 12: changed for him in February and March, and do you
- 22:03Speaker 12: think it'll be easier for him without the kind of
- 22:05Speaker 12: expectations this year?
- 22:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that.
- 22:10Speaker 11: affected Alex individually, and I think it affected our program
- 22:13Speaker 11: as a whole to start last year. You know, we
- 22:15Speaker 11: understood that we had a lot of expectations. We knew
- 22:17Speaker 11: that was going to be something that we had to
- 22:19Speaker 11: be up against, but you can't really attack it until
- 22:23Speaker 11: you experience it, and we just didn't do a great
- 22:26Speaker 11: job handling those expectations to start the year, and Alex,
- 22:30Speaker 11: I think, was pressing a little bit and didn't you know,
- 22:34Speaker 11: play his best until, you know, really after the Auburn
- 22:36Speaker 11: game in SEC play. And then he played like one
- 22:39Speaker 11: of the best players in America the last month and
- 22:41Speaker 11: a half, two months of the season. To your point,
- 22:43Speaker 11: I think it was Ken Palm MVP five out of
- 22:45Speaker 11: our last 10 games or something like that, was just
- 22:48Speaker 11: playing at an insanely high level. And I think all
- 22:50Speaker 11: of our guys, myself included, can use last year as
- 22:54Speaker 11: a learning experience to not allow the expectations to affect
- 22:58Speaker 11: us or, you know, dictate how we go. And I
- 23:01Speaker 11: think we can use that to, to make sure we
- 23:04Speaker 11: get off to a better start this season, but I
- 23:05Speaker 11: don't think it will affect any of our players nor
- 23:08Speaker 11: myself negatively. Uh, I think we're more ready for this
- 23:11Speaker 11: this year than we were last year.
- 23:13Speaker 1: It's hard to believe Alex Condon is back. He is
- 23:17Speaker 1: 54 years old. He has been playing at Florida for
- 23:21Speaker 1: 47 years.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Wow.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Um, They've got a lot of veterans on that team.
- 23:28Speaker 1: They should be pretty good. This league is going to
- 23:32Speaker 1: be pretty good. If we have time, we'll talk to Mr.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Clinton about that coming up. I'm sure we'll get around
- 23:39Speaker 1: to some basketball. Yeah, Scott will be with us here
- 23:42Speaker 1: in a few minutes. Mallory is here as well with
- 23:46Speaker 1: some entertainment news. I want to hit on this because
- 23:51Speaker 1: I have it and I listened to this today. We're
- 23:53Speaker 1: going to play a little bit of Rick Barnes, Tennessee coach.
- 23:57Speaker 1: The Vols are a preseason top 10 team. They apparently
- 24:01Speaker 1: played an exhibition game against Duke last week, got beat
- 24:05Speaker 1: by almost 40. I mean, Rick Barnes just doesn't get
- 24:09Speaker 1: beat by 40. He may get beat, but he didn't
- 24:12Speaker 1: get beat by 40. And his teams don't give up
- 24:14Speaker 1: 103 points. Either Duke is the best team in the world,
- 24:22Speaker 1: and they may be. They were last year, but they
- 24:25Speaker 1: didn't win, right? Or Tennessee isn't as good as some
- 24:33Speaker 1: people think they are. Or it's just an exhibition game.
- 24:38Speaker 1: It's Probably it could be a little bit of all three.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Here is a little bit of the Tennessee coach, Rick Barnes.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Program in terms of having so many young guys starting
- 24:52Speaker 3: from scratch, but, uh, we're still looking to see what
- 24:56Speaker 3: we can find in terms of a group of guys
- 24:58Speaker 3: that are going to compete. Uh, started the game where,
- 25:01Speaker 3: you know, a couple of things, we made a couple
- 25:04Speaker 3: of plays here or there, maybe not let them get
- 25:06Speaker 3: so far in front.
- 25:07Speaker 1: But, uh, Probably a few guys.
- 25:10Speaker 3: I thought our young guys came in and were flying around,
- 25:12Speaker 3: but the first thing we've got to get as a
- 25:14Speaker 3: team is a real fighting, competitive spirit, and we haven't
- 25:19Speaker 3: shown that at all in the last, really, 40 minutes
- 25:23Speaker 3: of basketball, 15 minutes we've played with the guys.
- 25:27Speaker 11: Coach, you talk about that competitive fire not being there
- 25:29Speaker 11: the last 40 minutes.
- 25:30Speaker 14: Does that surprise you, especially this early in the year?
- 25:33Speaker 3: Well, I think some, honestly, some Players just don't know
- 25:38Speaker 3: what it takes yet to get it done. That's why
- 25:41Speaker 3: it's been great to play a really good team like Xavier.
- 25:44Speaker 3: And obviously, you know, John, his team's terrific. And sometimes
- 25:48Speaker 3: you've got to go through this. And I've always been
- 25:52Speaker 3: a big proponent of playing five of these because I
- 25:55Speaker 3: think it really helps you get exposed. I think it
- 25:58Speaker 3: gives you a chance. And I'm glad we got this one.
- 26:00Speaker 3: We got one more Saturday before we kick it off. And,
- 26:03Speaker 3: you know, we haven't been able to put the whole
- 26:05Speaker 3: team together yet, but that's not– What happened here was, again,
- 26:09Speaker 3: the first four minutes of the game, we wanted to
- 26:11Speaker 3: see if a group of guys that we thought could
- 26:14Speaker 3: get things done early and we didn't defend the way
- 26:16Speaker 3: we needed to, didn't attack the way we needed to
- 26:20Speaker 3: attack with the force that we needed to. Do I
- 26:24Speaker 3: think that our guys want to? I don't think there's
- 26:27Speaker 3: any question. Do they know how yet?
- 26:29Speaker 1: Absolutely not.
- 26:30Speaker 3: That's up to me and our staff. We'll get them there.
- 26:33Speaker 1: We've talked about it a lot. We have.
- 26:35Speaker 3: We've talked about it from day one, what it's going
- 26:37Speaker 3: to take to win at the level that we want
- 26:38Speaker 3: to win at. But sometimes it takes this, and then
- 26:42Speaker 3: you'll find out who you can really count on.
- 26:48Speaker 7: Rick, in the practices between Xavier and now, did you
- 26:50Speaker 7: see improvement from your guys on the court?
- 26:54Speaker 1: Well, yeah. I mean, we did.
- 26:55Speaker 3: But, I mean, well, there's a difference in practice. I'm
- 26:58Speaker 3: there on them every minute of the day. Here, I
- 27:01Speaker 3: can't call timeout and fix every one of their little–
- 27:05Speaker 3: mistakes but uh the fact is and they i really
- 27:09Speaker 3: appreciated some of the comments they just had in the
- 27:12Speaker 3: room but but the biggest one would be when things
- 27:16Speaker 3: don't go well how do you react we haven't done
- 27:18Speaker 3: that well in two games and and it'd be and
- 27:20Speaker 3: some of these guys this is the first time that
- 27:23Speaker 3: we've been together two games really and again the exhibition
- 27:26Speaker 3: games are good for that but we'll see uh if
- 27:29Speaker 3: guys are willing to listen first thing and then we've
- 27:33Speaker 3: got to be obviously we've got away from so many
- 27:36Speaker 3: different things that we like to do, that we practice.
- 27:40Speaker 3: But the season hasn't started yet, and now we've got
- 27:44Speaker 3: a chance to maybe try to become one of the
- 27:46Speaker 3: most improved teams in the country over the next couple weeks.
- 27:49Speaker 3: But got a rebound. You know, we've gotten killed on
- 27:54Speaker 3: the glass, and that's something that, I mean, last year,
- 27:56Speaker 3: we've always been a good rebounding team.
- 27:58Speaker 1: And that's a mindset.
- 27:58Speaker 3: It's a competitive mindset. It's just you just refuse not to. compete,
- 28:04Speaker 3: I don't care what size you are. You just got
- 28:06Speaker 3: to rebound the ball, take care of the ball better.
- 28:10Speaker 3: We got to obviously do a better job of that.
- 28:15Speaker 3: But I like our guys, but we knew coming in,
- 28:20Speaker 3: or I knew, and our staff did it, we would
- 28:22Speaker 3: have to maybe get beat to get some attention, and
- 28:28Speaker 3: we'll see if we do get their attention.
- 28:31Speaker 13: Have you been surprised by the lack of pressure you've
- 28:33Speaker 13: all been able to put on the rim offensively?
- 28:35Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely.
- 28:37Speaker 3: And I can tell you, we spent so much time
- 28:40Speaker 3: doing that, trying to do it in practice. I mean,
- 28:43Speaker 3: you've been there, you see it. But it's one thing
- 28:47Speaker 3: doing practice. It's another thing to do it when the
- 28:50Speaker 3: light's wrong. And you've got to fight for it. I mean, Duke,
- 28:52Speaker 3: they're a good defensive team. They've got strength. They've got size.
- 28:57Speaker 1: But we go too deep.
- 28:59Speaker 3: But Duke, I thought, did a great job of exactly
- 29:01Speaker 3: what we've tried to practice, drive it deep, kick it
- 29:04Speaker 3: out for those stationary threes. And the ball with us,
- 29:08Speaker 3: it sticks too much. Too many guys thinking they're going
- 29:11Speaker 3: to go get it on their own, and they haven't
- 29:15Speaker 3: proven they can do that yet.
- 29:18Speaker 1: All right, that's a little bit of Rick Barnes. Like
- 29:23Speaker 1: I said, they got beat really badly by Duke.
- 29:27Speaker 5: But.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Won't count. It won't be in the win-loss column. I
- 29:33Speaker 1: suspect by the end of the year they'll be pretty good.
- 29:35Speaker 1: They usually are because he's a pretty good basketball coach.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Coming up, Scott Clendenin is going to join us for
- 29:43Speaker 1: our regular weekly get-together. So you want to stay tuned
- 29:48Speaker 1: for that. Mallory is here. Tomorrow we'll have a high
- 29:53Speaker 1: school report. Jared will be in tomorrow on the big program.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Galleria has been part of our community since 1993. Not
- 30:06Speaker 1: so ironically, that's when this show began. So two things
- 30:11Speaker 1: may have happened. I may have said, hey, Galleria is
- 30:17Speaker 1: starting opening a spa. That would be a great sponsor.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Maybe I should do a show. Or I started a
- 30:25Speaker 1: show and I said, hey, I need Galleria on because
- 30:30Speaker 1: guys are going to be listening to this show and
- 30:34Speaker 1: they need help. And that part's still true 33 years later.
- 30:39Speaker 1: And Galleria still has gift certificates 33 years later. And
- 30:44Speaker 1: ladies still love getting gift certificates from Galleria, whether it's

- 33:36Speaker 1: Florida State, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Utah at Cincinnati. And the

- 33:55Speaker 1: going to get their name on the cup. And it
- 33:57Speaker 1: is close. I think this is a hard week. But
- 34:00Speaker 1: then every week's been a hard week for me so far.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Make your picks between now and Friday at 5 o'clock.
- 34:10Speaker 1: And then on Monday... We'll give away the prizes. Friday's

- 34:23Speaker 1: of the football season by Chad Jones Law and Zwernemann Flooring.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Scott Clendenin is in.
- 34:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't even, because it knows it me, it
- 34:36Speaker 5: won't even let me look and see how bad I
- 34:38Speaker 5: was last week.
- 34:38Speaker 10: Oh, really?
- 34:40Speaker 1: I was terrible again. Since I had a nine-in-one week,
- 34:45Speaker 1: one nine-in-one week, which I think everybody did that week,
- 34:49Speaker 1: it's just been a struggle. It has been difficult.
- 34:53Speaker 5: Struggling.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Struggling.
- 34:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:56Speaker 1: For... Oh, my gosh.
- 34:59Speaker 5: Whatever happened to Joe Willie Namath?
- 35:02Speaker 1: Um... You know, he was doing a lot of those
- 35:04Speaker 1: commercials for a while. I haven't seen him, right?
- 35:07Speaker 5: I hope he's doing okay.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Me too. That's a good question.
- 35:10Speaker 5: Reverse mortgage?
- 35:12Speaker 1: Yes, he was doing all kinds of things.
- 35:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 1: But you're right. I have not seen him lately.
- 35:17Speaker 5: I hope he's doing okay.
- 35:19Speaker 1: I need to look that up.
- 35:21Speaker 5: I hope he's not.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Getting all the struggling.
- 35:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 35:30Speaker 1: Let's see. Baseball. Let's just do baseball here.
- 35:32Speaker 5: We've got a little minute.
- 35:35Speaker 1: I turned it off last night. It went too late
- 35:37Speaker 1: for me. Turned it off in the 11th. Kept expecting
- 35:40Speaker 1: Milwaukee to win because I didn't think Tampa was ever
- 35:44Speaker 1: going to get another base hit in the series. Plausible.
- 35:48Speaker 1: I knew that was plausible. But then they had to
- 35:51Speaker 1: bring in somebody that wasn't. I didn't know they had
- 35:55Speaker 1: anybody that couldn't get everybody out. They finally, Tampa finally
- 36:00Speaker 1: found somebody that couldn't get anybody out.
- 36:02Speaker 5: So they said, you know, Oh, we're breaking, you know,
- 36:06Speaker 5: he had struggled in his one appearance and I, and
- 36:08Speaker 5: I looked at his numbers. He pitched one inning and
- 36:11Speaker 5: gave up a run.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:12Speaker 5: That's struggle. He's struggling.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Well, I brought Ashby in of course, and he shot
- 36:17Speaker 1: everybody down, but he threw 29 pitches and I get it.
- 36:20Speaker 1: I mean, that was enough. And you figure, Hey, all
- 36:22Speaker 1: we need is a run and we're going to win
- 36:23Speaker 1: the game. And I got the run and I'm going, uh,
- 36:27Speaker 1: because I'm watching the highlights this morning, right? And I go, oh,
- 36:29Speaker 1: home run in the 12th, of course. But then the
- 36:32Speaker 1: highlights kept going. I went, what just happened? Tampa Bay
- 36:36Speaker 1: came back, which I'm fine with, because this is the
- 36:40Speaker 1: last baseball we're going to see for a while, unfortunately,
- 36:42Speaker 1: I believe.
- 36:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I think.
- 36:45Speaker 1: No, I mean.
- 36:46Speaker 5: I think we're not going to have baseball next year.
- 36:48Speaker 1: At all. At all. I'm too old for that. I
- 36:53Speaker 1: can't wait.
- 36:54Speaker 5: It's on South 2-Vay.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Another year, yeah.
- 36:56Speaker 5: Some guy's chasing 3,000 hits.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I know.
- 36:58Speaker 5: Losing a year. I know. They're too old for that stuff.
- 37:01Speaker 1: I know, you're right. I didn't even think about that. But, man.
- 37:04Speaker 5: Pitchers that are chasing 300 wins.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that sucks.
- 37:07Speaker 5: Who's going to take Max Scherzer two years from now?
- 37:10Speaker 5: The Rangers? Probably.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Take him back. Only if he has more elbow surgery.
- 37:17Speaker 5: But, yeah, you know.
- 37:19Speaker 1: Look, I thought when this series began, because of the
- 37:22Speaker 1: style of play, I thought it was going seven. I
- 37:24Speaker 1: thought each game would be like last night and game one, frankly, right?
- 37:29Speaker 5: Game two was the same way. It was just all
- 37:31Speaker 5: the runs. But the difference is Milwaukee's been so good.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:37Speaker 1: The difference is they're hitting the ball. Tampa really hasn't hit.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Tampa doesn't hit the ball. They can't hit. They've got
- 37:47Speaker 1: one guy that can hit.
- 37:48Speaker 5: Let's do Ferris Bueller. He can't hit. He can't hit.
- 37:50Speaker 5: He can't hit.
- 37:51Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, he can't. I mean, we knew that.
- 37:54Speaker 1: But good gosh. Milwaukee's pitching, in fairness, is doing that
- 37:58Speaker 1: to everybody.
- 37:58Speaker 18: Right?
- 37:59Speaker 1: I mean, they've done it to everybody.
- 38:00Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 38:01Speaker 1: And that bullpen is just unbelievable. And the starters have
- 38:04Speaker 1: to go about four innings. And I love John Smoltz,
- 38:08Speaker 1: by the way. I think he's the best analyst in
- 38:10Speaker 1: the business. I just think he's terrific. And I'm watching
- 38:14Speaker 1: him last night, and it's like, hey, this is a
- 38:18Speaker 1: huge inning for Tampa. They don't score this inning. And
- 38:22Speaker 1: he really does that just about every game. Fifth inning,
- 38:25Speaker 1: Tampa's got to score this inning, or the game's over.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Which it has been until they finally found somebody they
- 38:32Speaker 1: could They could hit last night.
- 38:33Speaker 5: I don't think it's going to.
- 38:34Speaker 1: We're not going to see him anymore.
- 38:36Speaker 5: He's not going to be first one out after Miz tonight.
- 38:38Speaker 1: He will not. But obviously, they're using guys basically an
- 38:44Speaker 1: inning at a time, right? Give or take. Like I said,
- 38:49Speaker 1: Ashby went, I think, one and two-thirds last night. Ended
- 38:52Speaker 1: up throwing about 28, 29 pitches. I don't think he
- 38:55Speaker 1: would be back tonight. Mizorowski's on the mound tonight. But again...
- 39:01Speaker 1: Most of the time, five innings, he's done, right?
- 39:04Speaker 5: Maybe they'll have him dial it down to 101 tonight.
- 39:07Speaker 1: I don't think he can dial it down.
- 39:09Speaker 5: He needs to. His elbow should tell him at some
- 39:11Speaker 5: point in time.
- 39:12Speaker 1: I know, man. It's just, you know, if you guys
- 39:15Speaker 1: don't know, this is a kid that throws 104 every pitch.
- 39:20Speaker 1: But they don't need him past. They have not needed
- 39:24Speaker 1: him or anybody other starter past five innings because that's
- 39:27Speaker 1: baseball today. Not crazy about it. but that's what it is. And,
- 39:32Speaker 1: you know, it'll be, hey, I'm just telling you, if
- 39:35Speaker 1: you haven't seen this kid pitch, turn on the World
- 39:37Speaker 1: Series for the first couple of three innings. Just watch
- 39:39Speaker 1: this kid throw, okay? Because he's going to go 103,
- 39:43Speaker 1: 104 miles an hour, and he'll probably do it for three, four,
- 39:47Speaker 1: five innings. And then... We'll see from there.
- 39:52Speaker 5: Yeah, if Milwaukee puts up a five-spot.
- 39:56Speaker 1: While Miz is on the mound, it's over. Yeah, I mean,
- 40:00Speaker 1: the other night was just crazy. And it was just,
- 40:05Speaker 1: you know, one of their best defensive players. And it
- 40:07Speaker 1: was a really hard play. It was a smashed ball,
- 40:11Speaker 1: bad hop, off the glove. And that opened the way for, what,
- 40:16Speaker 1: eight runs in the innings?
- 40:17Speaker 11: Yes.
- 40:18Speaker 1: I mean, but that's Milwaukee. They've done that all year.
- 40:21Speaker 1: You don't give any good teams ever four outs, ever.
- 40:26Speaker 1: And then last night, they dropped the pop fly, Tampa did,
- 40:31Speaker 1: in about the 10th inning. And I thought, that game's over.
- 40:34Speaker 5: Punched them on the next one. Got lucky. Punched a
- 40:36Speaker 5: guy out.
- 40:36Speaker 1: They did. They got very lucky because they dropped a
- 40:39Speaker 1: foul pop. And you're going, oh, no.
- 40:41Speaker 5: Well, no, they didn't drop it.
- 40:43Speaker 1: You got it.
- 40:44Speaker 5: No, I got it. You got it. No, I'm Spider-Man. No,
- 40:47Speaker 5: you're Spider-Man.
- 40:48Speaker 1: The World Series, and you're going, haven't these guys had
- 40:51Speaker 1: time to figure this out?
- 40:52Speaker 5: It's still baseball.
- 40:53Speaker 11: It is.
- 40:54Speaker 5: It is. Arkansas will have a national championship if they
- 40:56Speaker 5: make the same play in baseball five years ago in
- 41:00Speaker 5: the College World Series, ten years ago.
- 41:02Speaker 1: It's thin, but I'm telling you, the Brewers, most good
- 41:06Speaker 1: baseball teams make you pay. The Brewers make you pay.
- 41:10Speaker 1: And that's why they're good. They're fun to watch. They
- 41:14Speaker 1: really are. You know what? Let me compare them. And
- 41:16Speaker 1: I haven't done this yet. I'm going to compare them
- 41:18Speaker 1: to last year's Indiana football national champions. They are so fundamental, right? Yes.
- 41:22Speaker 1: They're not going to beat themselves.
- 41:25Speaker 5: And they believe that they're not going to lose.
- 41:27Speaker 1: Yes.
- 41:28Speaker 5: They've got the confidence. And they've got the manager.
- 41:31Speaker 1: They've got everything.
- 41:32Speaker 5: No, I thought Craig Council left them.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Yeah, he did. This guy's pretty good.
- 41:37Speaker 5: Yeah, this guy's pretty good, too. How about the fact
- 41:40Speaker 5: that it was cheaper to buy a ticket in Tampa,
- 41:45Speaker 5: a game ticket in Tampa, than it was to buy
- 41:48Speaker 5: a ticket to the watch party in Milwaukee? No way.
- 41:52Speaker 19: Yes. No.
- 41:54Speaker 1: I saw right before the game the tickets were about
- 41:56Speaker 1: 800 apiece at the game last night, right?
- 41:59Speaker 5: I understand that, but if you had already bought them.
- 42:01Speaker 1: But if you've watched– hey, guys, if you haven't watched
- 42:03Speaker 1: World Series, watch it tonight because they're back in Tampa, right?
- 42:07Speaker 1: It's like it's not quite a Milwaukee home crowd, but
- 42:10Speaker 1: it's probably 40-60, I would guess.
- 42:13Speaker 3: Yes.
- 42:14Speaker 1: And for Milwaukee, I mean, they.
- 42:18Speaker 5: A lot of fans that could not get tickets tonight.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Came to the World Series.
- 42:23Speaker 18: Yes.
- 42:24Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 42:25Speaker 5: They said as long as the roads don't flood because
- 42:27Speaker 5: of the king tides.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Yeah. That's a whole other story. All right. We're going
- 42:32Speaker 1: to take a break. Scott Clendenin is here tomorrow. We've
- 42:37Speaker 1: got a high school report. Jared is scheduled in Friday.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Ryan is back. We'll visit with Tony Catalina on Friday,
- 42:49Speaker 1: Kirk Bowles on Friday as well. Next week, Bill O'Reilly
- 42:55Speaker 1: will join us. He's got a book out called Confronting America.

- 43:38Speaker 7: The Houston Texans are enjoying their week off, but are
- 43:41Speaker 7: still using it as an opportunity. At the moment, the
- 43:43Speaker 7: team might need to take care of their mental fatigue
- 43:45Speaker 7: as the team continues to face pressure after missing early
- 43:48Speaker 7: season expectations. Here's Texans head coach D'Amico Ryans on Texans
- 43:52Speaker 7: radio yesterday on why taking a step back practice-wise is
- 43:55Speaker 7: the best option for the team.
- 43:57Speaker 20: It's really a chance for us, I think, It comes
- 43:59Speaker 20: at the right time, getting it right in the middle.
- 44:01Speaker 20: I think guys just need to take a deep breath.
- 44:06Speaker 5: Just reset.
- 44:07Speaker 20: I think it's not going out and practicing four times
- 44:11Speaker 20: this week, and that's going to help us get better.
- 44:13Speaker 20: I think everybody just needs to hit a reset mentally,
- 44:17Speaker 20: see where they are mentally, physically, get your bodies recovered,
- 44:21Speaker 20: healed up, and then we'll come back next week. Our
- 44:24Speaker 20: plan this week isn't to go out on the field
- 44:27Speaker 20: and do more practices to truly give the guys a break.
- 44:30Speaker 7: The Texans are idle this weekend, but face the Chargers
- 44:32Speaker 7: on November 8th. With your Houston Texans report, I'm Jett Nelson.

- 47:28Speaker 4: you free and clean. And now you wear your skin
- 47:33Speaker 4: like iron, and your breath is hard as kerosene.
- 47:38Speaker 1: It is All Willie Wednesday. Scott Clendenin is here with us.
- 47:44Speaker 1: It is an open week. I think everybody needed an
- 47:48Speaker 1: open week. Scott, fans, coaches, players. I think everybody needed
- 47:54Speaker 1: an open week.
- 47:55Speaker 7: Yes.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Um, we'll see what South Carolina does at Oklahoma on,
- 48:02Speaker 1: on Saturday.
- 48:03Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 48:04Speaker 5: Um, that was an interesting pick for chip hours, sports
- 48:08Speaker 5: talk to.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Um, yeah, I, you know, there aren't, there aren't tons
- 48:14Speaker 1: of great games this weekend. I mean, there just aren't
- 48:19Speaker 1: a lot of great games this weekend. Um, And I
- 48:24Speaker 1: tried to find some close games this weekend.
- 48:27Speaker 5: I just don't know what you're going to get with
- 48:30Speaker 5: Oklahoma either.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Right.
- 48:31Speaker 5: Oklahoma and South Carolina is another mystery game. I think
- 48:37Speaker 5: that's what we're finding out about college football this year.
- 48:42Speaker 1: Are there more injuries or is it just my imagination?
- 48:47Speaker 5: Well, the quarterback injuries obviously make it so big at
- 48:50Speaker 5: USC and at Mississippi State.
- 48:52Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a killer. You hate that. That kid is special,
- 48:58Speaker 1: fun to watch. And Kamario Taylor we're talking about. It's
- 49:04Speaker 1: terrible for Jeff Lebby. It's terrible for the program.
- 49:07Speaker 5: How's he going to get the Baylor job if he
- 49:09Speaker 5: can't even keep his quarterback healthy?
- 49:10Speaker 1: You know, I hadn't even– that's interesting. I hadn't heard
- 49:13Speaker 1: his name mentioned. Do you think he would go back there?
- 49:16Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 49:17Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I mean, he's in the SEC
- 49:19Speaker 1: right now, but obviously may be easier.
- 49:22Speaker 5: To Mississippi State.
- 49:24Speaker 1: You're right. You're right. But but but if he thinks
- 49:28Speaker 1: he's going to hold on to this quarterback, Scott, that
- 49:31Speaker 1: would that would really prevent you in my mind from
- 49:35Speaker 1: taking that. Even if you were semi interested, I'm going, no.
- 49:39Speaker 1: unless he's coming with me, I'm staying with him. And I,
- 49:43Speaker 1: from what I've heard, this is a Mississippi kid, right?
- 49:45Speaker 5: Yes.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Special kid. I'm not saying he wouldn't take money to
- 49:49Speaker 1: go somewhere, you know, but, but it, it, it on
- 49:54Speaker 1: the outside looking in and reading what I'm reading, it
- 49:57Speaker 1: appears that he would stay.
- 50:00Speaker 5: Right.
- 50:01Speaker 1: And if I'm Jeff Levy, I'm going, I'm hitching my
- 50:04Speaker 1: start of this kid because, you know, when they started
- 50:06Speaker 1: the first two weeks of the season, uh, You know,
- 50:10Speaker 1: let me look at this real quick because I'm not
- 50:13Speaker 1: sure they played anybody great.
- 50:16Speaker 5: But he was on that Mateer Heisman list like two
- 50:20Speaker 5: years ago when John Mateer was everybody's flavor for two weeks.
- 50:26Speaker 1: Yeah, they played Louisiana, Monroe. They won at Minnesota, which
- 50:32Speaker 1: has proved to be a decent win.
- 50:33Speaker 5: Yes.
- 50:34Speaker 1: You know, because Minnesota has gotten pretty good. they went
- 50:43Speaker 1: to South Carolina, right?
- 50:46Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 50:47Speaker 1: He tried to play against Missouri. He tried to play
- 50:52Speaker 1: against Alabama. So, look, they look pretty good. I mean,
- 51:00Speaker 1: they did. They've got speed at the outside, receivers. I'm
- 51:05Speaker 1: just saying it. Jeff Levy may want to, you know,
- 51:08Speaker 1: may want to stay put with Kamario Taylor. Yeah.
- 51:11Speaker 5: So that's what I think, you know. A & M
- 51:15Speaker 5: should get some guys healthier.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Yes.
- 51:17Speaker 5: That would certainly help them.
- 51:19Speaker 1: Wouldn't hurt.
- 51:20Speaker 5: If you're going to make changes as far as what you're,
- 51:25Speaker 5: the direction you want this ship to point, a mid-season
- 51:30Speaker 5: buy might be that opportunity.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I've seen that. talked about and written about. And,
- 51:39Speaker 1: you know, last Saturday, it just seemed like that Brady
- 51:44Speaker 1: Hart was going to come in after the pick six
- 51:46Speaker 1: and the interception, right?
- 51:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 51:48Speaker 1: And he's warming up. And Elko's asked about it after
- 51:52Speaker 1: the game. And his answer is the same as what
- 51:55Speaker 1: I've said and what most people probably understand is I
- 52:00Speaker 1: just thought he gave us the best chance to win,
- 52:02Speaker 1: meaning Marcel Reed, right?
- 52:03Speaker 5: Didn't he give him a chance to win?
- 52:05Speaker 1: He did. I mean, he played two quarters of really
- 52:08Speaker 1: good football.
- 52:08Speaker 5: Did he get up off the turf? Second interception is
- 52:10Speaker 5: not even his fault.
- 52:11Speaker 1: No, it wasn't.
- 52:12Speaker 5: I don't even know if it was an interception or not.
- 52:14Speaker 5: I was rather surprised that they overturned that call, except
- 52:19Speaker 5: that the distance between that stadium and the replay room
- 52:23Speaker 5: is very short in Alabama. So, evidently, they have a
- 52:27Speaker 5: faster replay than what I saw. They could slow it
- 52:30Speaker 5: down because it was so fast. They could slow it
- 52:32Speaker 5: to the... Yeah. But, He did get up off the carpet.
- 52:37Speaker 5: I don't know if you've talked about it, Chip, or
- 52:39Speaker 5: if anybody has. The touchdown drive set up by the
- 52:44Speaker 5: most inopportune poor punt that the Aggies have had this year.
- 52:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it was terrible.
- 52:51Speaker 6: It really was.
- 52:51Speaker 5: And it has not been good on fourth and short.
- 52:54Speaker 5: They have not been.
- 52:54Speaker 1: They've been horrible.
- 52:56Speaker 5: Okay. Some of it has been, you know, when you're
- 52:59Speaker 5: deep in your own territory and you have to keep
- 53:02Speaker 5: the ball going, you know, I understand that. But they
- 53:04Speaker 5: have not had success in fourth and short, and it
- 53:08Speaker 5: has led to problems.
- 53:10Speaker 1: I thought it was a really curious decision with four
- 53:14Speaker 1: and a half minutes left to punt the ball, you know,
- 53:16Speaker 1: about your own 45, I guess, is fourth and six.
- 53:19Speaker 1: And as you mentioned, they've been terrible on fourth down.
- 53:22Speaker 1: But in that situation– But.
- 53:25Speaker 5: You punted it to the 45-yard line for Alabama's go-ahead
- 53:29Speaker 5: touchdown drive.
- 53:29Speaker 1: No doubt. No doubt. It was, you know.
- 53:34Speaker 5: One of your better players that has been clutch.
- 53:37Speaker 1: He's been great.
- 53:39Speaker 5: Okay.
- 53:39Speaker 1: He's been great. It was probably the poorest punt of
- 53:41Speaker 1: the year.
- 53:42Speaker 5: Yes, I would think so. But it was a huge point.
- 53:45Speaker 5: That's the kind of stuff that has happened to A
- 53:47Speaker 5: & M this year, that you sit there and say,
- 53:50Speaker 5: is this stuff going to even out? Those are the
- 53:53Speaker 5: things you look at and even out. Do you get
- 53:56Speaker 5: a punt return when you don't expect it? Things like that.
- 53:59Speaker 5: Does that make up for that? A & M finally
- 54:02Speaker 5: gets an interception. They hadn't had turnovers like they wanted to.
- 54:09Speaker 5: They get that. So they played better football, but you're
- 54:13Speaker 5: playing at Alabama. You're playing an Alabama team that was
- 54:17Speaker 5: in trouble as well. And Alabama was better in the
- 54:20Speaker 5: fourth quarter than you were.
- 54:22Speaker 1: And Alabama is not Alabama. I mean, you know, not
- 54:27Speaker 1: what we're used to, okay, by a long shot.
- 54:30Speaker 5: Well, they're not Nick Saban's Alabama.
- 54:31Speaker 1: They're not Nick Saban's Alabama.
- 54:33Speaker 5: I remember that between.
- 54:35Speaker 1: Have you watched the Saban yet? It's really good.
- 54:40Speaker 5: But I'm saying between Saban and Gene Stallings, this was Alabama.
- 54:46Speaker 7: True.
- 54:47Speaker 1: I mean, yeah. But probably with a better coach. I
- 54:53Speaker 1: still think Kalen DeBoer is a good coach. He may
- 54:55Speaker 1: not be. Two things. It may not be the best
- 55:00Speaker 1: fit for him. And I'm not sure that there is
- 55:03Speaker 1: a best fit to follow Nick Saban, frankly. Okay. We
- 55:08Speaker 1: knew that when it happened. And I just don't think.
- 55:17Speaker 1: there's anybody coming along, including Kurt Cegnetti right now, who
- 55:22Speaker 1: doesn't have the quarterback he had a year ago, you're
- 55:26Speaker 1: not going to see somebody win six national championships in
- 55:31Speaker 1: a school in a period of 12 or 13 years.
- 55:35Speaker 1: It's not going to happen in today's world. It's just not.
- 55:37Speaker 5: So I'm just going to ask you, generally speaking, do
- 55:42Speaker 5: you think Gene Bartow could coach basketball some?
- 55:45Speaker 1: Gene Bartow is a good basketball coach.
- 55:47Speaker 5: Gary Cunningham?
- 55:49Speaker 1: Pretty good basketball coach.
- 55:50Speaker 5: Larry Brown?
- 55:51Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty good basketball coach.
- 55:52Speaker 5: Larry Farmer?
- 55:53Speaker 1: Yeah, all these guys followed John Wooden, right? They all
- 55:57Speaker 1: followed John Wooden.
- 55:58Speaker 5: So until they got to Jim Herrick, who won one
- 56:00Speaker 5: national title in 95, and then he got run out,
- 56:03Speaker 5: and Steve Lavin, who wasn't bad either. He wasn't bad.
- 56:07Speaker 5: And then Ben Howland, you know, went three straight Final Fours.
- 56:11Speaker 5: Nobody talks about the fact that Gene Bartow went to
- 56:14Speaker 5: UAB out of UCLA and made them pretty good at basketball.
- 56:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 56:19Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 56:19Speaker 1: I mean, following the legend we knew was, I mean,
- 56:22Speaker 1: it was problematic. And following that guy was going to
- 56:26Speaker 1: be problematic for whoever. I'll say again, I still think
- 56:30Speaker 1: Kalen DeBoer is a pretty good coach.
- 56:32Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 56:33Speaker 1: And everybody looks around and goes, well, that's not the
- 56:37Speaker 1: Alabama we've seen. I go, well, I don't think. First
- 56:40Speaker 1: of all, standing here in my lifetime, you're going to
- 56:43Speaker 1: see that Alabama anymore. You may see one year of
- 56:47Speaker 1: it in today's. And we saw it last year at Indiana.
- 56:51Speaker 15: Right.
- 56:52Speaker 1: I mean, that team was phenomenal and everything came together.
- 56:56Speaker 1: They had veteran players. They caught lightning in a bottle
- 56:59Speaker 1: with their quarterback, who is terrific. Indiana's pretty dang good
- 57:03Speaker 1: this year, right? They're still pretty solid.
- 57:06Speaker 5: Yes.
- 57:06Speaker 1: But they don't have that quarterback.
- 57:07Speaker 18: No.
- 57:08Speaker 1: You know, they just don't.
- 57:09Speaker 5: Well, and the questions are, would he not be what
- 57:11Speaker 5: he was at TCU? I think he's improved.
- 57:13Speaker 1: Oh, he has improved.
- 57:15Speaker 5: But he's not what they had last year.
- 57:16Speaker 1: He's not what they had last year, right? There's no question. But, again...
- 57:21Speaker 1: That guy was special. He won a national championship.
- 57:25Speaker 5: Won a Heisman.
- 57:26Speaker 1: Won a Heisman.
- 57:27Speaker 5: First pick in the NFL, said he was the best
- 57:29Speaker 5: player that we could go out and get, even though
- 57:31Speaker 5: the best player is still playing wide receiver. ohio state
- 57:34Speaker 5: oh and.
- 57:36Speaker 1: Or i will say again miami i saw a deal
- 57:38Speaker 1: today that may no it was kurt bull's nine things
- 57:41Speaker 1: column today in the houston chronicle he said maybe there
- 57:44Speaker 1: should be co-heisman winners because every time i think jeremiah
- 57:47Speaker 1: smith is separated and because of his size and and
- 57:50Speaker 1: and right that that's the biggest thing tony's a small
- 57:53Speaker 1: guy yeah but every time i go well jeremiah smith
- 57:57Speaker 1: he's he's the guy i'm going then Then Tony steps
- 58:01Speaker 1: up and goes, oh, wait a minute. Yeah, I'm pretty good, too.
- 58:04Speaker 5: Well, I would say that Tony probably has a better quarterback,
- 58:07Speaker 5: especially now.
- 58:08Speaker 1: He does have a better quarterback. No doubt. He does
- 58:11Speaker 1: have a better quarterback.
- 58:12Speaker 5: If Smith continues and makes their backup look like he
- 58:17Speaker 5: can play because of his individual effort.
- 58:20Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 58:20Speaker 5: I mean, nobody ever talks about the quarterback that was
- 58:23Speaker 5: at Pittsburgh with Larry Fitzgerald. Don't even remember the guy's name.
- 58:26Speaker 1: No, you're right.
- 58:27Speaker 5: Saw him play two times, two years, here and up there.
- 58:30Speaker 5: Went to Pittsburgh to watch that.
- 58:31Speaker 1: He was pretty good.
- 58:32Speaker 5: He was a pretty good quarterback because he was throwing
- 58:35Speaker 5: to Larry Fitzgerald.
- 58:35Speaker 1: Because he was throwing to Larry Fitzgerald, who was pretty good.
- 58:38Speaker 5: Yeah, but that's who Smith reminds me of. Obviously, a
- 58:43Speaker 5: big-time guy. It's like watching Smith and Jigba in the
- 58:46Speaker 5: NFL play for Seattle.
- 58:48Speaker 1: Yes.
- 58:48Speaker 5: It's like. I did not think I'd see Larry Fitzgerald
- 58:51Speaker 5: type play.
