- 0:46Speaker 4: I am as Larry Dawson is with us this morning.
- 0:49Speaker 5: How you doing this morning, Larry, Good morning, Good morning.
- 0:51Speaker 5: We're stepping up our music.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I like that you like that a little bit.
- 0:54Speaker 6: Well, after two decades.
- 0:56Speaker 3: I know, I know, I it was.
- 0:58Speaker 4: I've told this story before, but I uh, it was
- 1:01Speaker 4: after moving into these studios where we actually have real
- 1:03Speaker 4: time monitors, because before I was doing everything by timing,
- 1:06Speaker 4: so I didn't actually hear the station I could just
- 1:08Speaker 4: watch what was happening, and so that's when I knew
- 1:10Speaker 4: how to come back from a commercial.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Break or whatever.
- 1:12Speaker 4: But I very quickly got tired of our old theme
- 1:15Speaker 4: and stuff. So this was a little fresher, brighter. You know,
- 1:18Speaker 4: it makes me a little happier.
- 1:20Speaker 6: I like it.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Thanks, that's good. That's good stuff.
- 1:22Speaker 5: Change is coming in just about all areas.
- 1:25Speaker 6: It's you and I. We're talking about football before we.
- 1:28Speaker 5: Came on the air. You know how that has changed.
- 1:31Speaker 5: But you have to decide somewhere in your life that
- 1:36Speaker 5: you have to step aside and let the change happen. Now,
- 1:39Speaker 5: whether it's good or bad, it doesn't matter one thing.
- 1:42Speaker 5: That my semi retirement years and I honestly I'm having
- 1:47Speaker 5: a blast. I kind of look back and go, you
- 1:50Speaker 5: should have did this little earlier. But with saying that,
- 1:54Speaker 5: I was determined enough to be that gratchyo guy that
- 1:58Speaker 5: was opiniated one of the it on fake book.
- 2:01Speaker 6: And I'm just happy.
- 2:03Speaker 5: And I enjoy what I do and what I'm doing
- 2:07Speaker 5: because it's what I used to do with no pressure
- 2:11Speaker 5: at a much smaller scale. And I know that with
- 2:15Speaker 5: my information that I've stored up over these years, It's
- 2:19Speaker 5: not opinionated.
- 2:20Speaker 6: It's just I kind of know how.
- 2:21Speaker 5: To bob and weave through the automobile world. And it's changed,
- 2:26Speaker 5: it's it's I won't say it's past me, but I'm
- 2:30Speaker 5: behind it.
- 2:31Speaker 6: You know, to stay.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Current, you've got to stay current, and with technology is
- 2:35Speaker 5: moving so rapidly, and I saw that coming. I understand
- 2:41Speaker 5: my position in life, and I understand what I wanted
- 2:44Speaker 5: to do, and was step aside and let the new
- 2:47Speaker 5: generation take the automobile world over.
- 2:50Speaker 6: And they're doing so.
- 2:51Speaker 5: But I still wanted to play ball because the knowledge
- 2:55Speaker 5: that I had, even though they may have that keyboard
- 2:58Speaker 5: in front of them and a screen, they do not
- 3:02Speaker 5: have the worldly experience like I have had in the past.
- 3:06Speaker 5: By doing so and still retain and therefore I share
- 3:10Speaker 5: it with people that cause and ask information or they
- 3:13Speaker 5: want to sell a car. Yesterday and the day before,
- 3:16Speaker 5: I spent three or four or five text research a
- 3:21Speaker 5: little bit and a telephone call helping a friend of
- 3:24Speaker 5: mine in Florida that was wanting to purchase the pre
- 3:27Speaker 5: owned vehicle. Obviously not for me, because I'm not in
- 3:30Speaker 5: the car selling business. I'm in the car banking business.
- 3:32Speaker 6: Now.
- 3:33Speaker 5: At my speed and it seems to have worked well
- 3:38Speaker 5: with me mentally and physically allows me to get up
- 3:41Speaker 5: and do what I know best. But I'm still playing ball,
- 3:46Speaker 5: and it's been a very good eighteen months. At first,
- 3:51Speaker 5: it was a little difficult, you know, from being from
- 3:55Speaker 5: high gear down to medium speed. You know, I can
- 3:58Speaker 5: step out up if I want to. I don't get
- 4:01Speaker 5: myself in a position to do that. It seems like
- 4:04Speaker 5: maybe if I got to run here orun there. But
- 4:06Speaker 5: as far as going out and still buying cars and
- 4:09Speaker 5: receiving it seems to be more text today than cause
- 4:14Speaker 5: actually it's almost all text.
- 4:16Speaker 6: But that's okay.
- 4:17Speaker 5: It's a communication device, and I know most of the
- 4:22Speaker 5: time I'll spin it into a conversation because I think
- 4:24Speaker 5: I do better understanding your needs. Because words are just words.
- 4:30Speaker 5: You send somebody a text, it can be interpreted a
- 4:33Speaker 5: different way, and you might they might or you might misread,
- 4:38Speaker 5: or they might miss spell, or they might you know
- 4:41Speaker 5: sometimes as word check picks up and diverts what you're
- 4:46Speaker 5: actually trying to say or the text. And so I
- 4:50Speaker 5: found it better just call and say, hey, DLL, now
- 4:54Speaker 5: you're wanting trade, and now tell me what you're wanting
- 4:56Speaker 5: to do now do you want to sell your vehicle
- 4:59Speaker 5: or you got you know, do you have a different option?
- 5:02Speaker 5: And I found that that the information that I think
- 5:06Speaker 5: I passed along by at least the people tell me
- 5:10Speaker 5: by thanking me more than once say hey, I appreciate
- 5:14Speaker 5: that information. And by the way, yeah, I wanted to
- 5:16Speaker 5: sell you my car because you're right, I'm buying this
- 5:20Speaker 5: car out of state. And you know when you go
- 5:23Speaker 5: cross state purchases and then not that it's a bad thing,
- 5:28Speaker 5: and it does open up more and more inventory. I
- 5:32Speaker 5: tell people just slow down a little bit, and I
- 5:36Speaker 5: want to tell you a little I'm going to tell
- 5:39Speaker 5: you what happened to a friend of mine that bought
- 5:41Speaker 5: cross state. She bought a car out of state back
- 5:46Speaker 5: in the spring, and unfortunately it was in this hellstorm
- 5:50Speaker 5: that we experienced down in Tays Valley. I think one
- 5:53Speaker 5: of your I think Dave Allen maybe yes, as well
- 5:57Speaker 5: as everybody else. And she made an appointment to have
- 6:02Speaker 5: her vehicle repaired or the repair now that she bought
- 6:07Speaker 5: this car new, and the repair person that was working
- 6:11Speaker 5: in her car made comment to her that it had
- 6:15Speaker 5: been previously worked on for hell damage.
- 6:20Speaker 6: She said, what, see, we car.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Guys can see things that normally the public doesn't see
- 6:27Speaker 5: because that's not what they do. You know, land man
- 6:30Speaker 5: can see land, and the lawyer can see law and
- 6:33Speaker 5: the police officerly we see cars, and we know the
- 6:37Speaker 5: tall tale science. And I suggested, I said, well, why
- 6:44Speaker 5: don't you google that two or three days that all
- 6:48Speaker 5: of a sudden your car got delayed being sent to
- 6:51Speaker 5: you for a lot of different reasons than maybe the
- 6:55Speaker 5: real reason.
- 6:56Speaker 6: And see what the weather conditions was in that town.
- 6:59Speaker 5: See if there might have been a house to them,
- 7:01Speaker 5: like two or three days before they shipped you the car.
- 7:05Speaker 5: And guess what there was? No. Yeah, now here's this issue.
- 7:09Speaker 5: What do you do with the South state? Who's going
- 7:12Speaker 5: to chase that?
- 7:13Speaker 6: Now? Maybe somebody will? I mean, was it ethical? Right?
- 7:18Speaker 4: N I mean you might have to start it, like
- 7:19Speaker 4: the Attorney General's office at that state to even get
- 7:22Speaker 4: a start on something like that.
- 7:24Speaker 5: Get in line. Yeah, and then you come back.
- 7:27Speaker 6: Was it told to you? You know, I mean the
- 7:31Speaker 6: obvious one of the other side? So well, remember we told.
- 7:35Speaker 4: You right now, So there is real and could it
- 7:39Speaker 4: be buried somewhere in the paperwork that you didn't see?
- 7:41Speaker 7: Right?
- 7:42Speaker 5: That stack of paperwork looks like a encyclopedia.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Right, So you have like a disclosure in there somewhere
- 7:47Speaker 4: that you just signed not thinking about it.
- 7:48Speaker 6: Or it's one of those docu sites.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Yeah, there you go, right, you know.
- 7:51Speaker 5: They just ship you, just hear you sign, and they
- 7:54Speaker 5: have now where you sign one signature. I'm gonna call
- 7:58Speaker 5: it an etch a sketchy hold it up and slide
- 8:00Speaker 5: all the paper down.
- 8:01Speaker 3: But yeah, basically does all of them know?
- 8:03Speaker 6: Yes?
- 8:03Speaker 5: So I don't know. I'm not going to get involved.
- 8:06Speaker 5: I mean I have done some testimonial work in the past.
- 8:10Speaker 5: I have been asked not a lot, but and I've
- 8:15Speaker 5: thought about maybe getting in that because it was it
- 8:19Speaker 5: passed the time, produced some income and was interesting, you
- 8:22Speaker 5: know that when I was doing some work for attorneys
- 8:26Speaker 5: in town. But this situation, and that's what I try
- 8:29Speaker 5: to slow people down to. The lady that called me
- 8:31Speaker 5: from Florida was thinking about buying or light. So I
- 8:36Speaker 5: have the resource to look at comparative cells in history
- 8:41Speaker 5: of vehicles and I don't charge. Though it cost me,
- 8:46Speaker 5: I don't charge. I passed it along and I said,
- 8:49Speaker 5: this vehicle has been setting somewhere for two years and
- 8:54Speaker 5: has been only driven eighteen hundred miles. Now there's a
- 8:58Speaker 5: reason most people do not buy a car and drive
- 9:02Speaker 5: an eighteen hundred miles and put it back at for sale.
- 9:06Speaker 5: I said, I think it's been sitting in an inventory
- 9:08Speaker 5: of a dealer that maybe might be like Carvana. You
- 9:12Speaker 5: know that they do wild and crazy things. And I said,
- 9:17Speaker 5: you might want to go to the review column of
- 9:20Speaker 5: Carvana in read them, and I said, then make your
- 9:24Speaker 5: decision whether you want to go to the next.
- 9:26Speaker 6: Step in purchaseing.
- 9:27Speaker 5: There's some good blogs, but there's something that's pretty scary,
- 9:31Speaker 5: and the problem is is going across that state line.
- 9:34Speaker 6: Yeah, and what do you do?
- 9:37Speaker 5: And have you ever tried to call one of these
- 9:40Speaker 5: companies that's trying to sell you back after the fact,
- 9:44Speaker 5: I mean, try to cancel something that'script or a subscription
- 9:49Speaker 5: coming in your house.
- 9:50Speaker 6: What's the same thing.
- 9:51Speaker 4: Yeah, you and I think we've talked about this before.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I'm convinced there is no customer service there. It's all
- 9:55Speaker 4: just chasing your telling until you give up. I don't
- 9:57Speaker 4: think there is any customers.
- 9:58Speaker 5: If you're chasing price, that's what you're going to get,
- 10:01Speaker 5: you know. I am no longer the retail dealer in
- 10:04Speaker 5: Nitro Stevens Is and they operate different from the way
- 10:08Speaker 5: I did, and that's okay. We all have different ways.
- 10:12Speaker 5: I gave this analogy a couple months ago to a
- 10:17Speaker 5: friend of mine that was been out of the car
- 10:20Speaker 5: buying experience probably for the last well previous COVID, and
- 10:27Speaker 5: he called me said, man, he said, this going out
- 10:30Speaker 5: and buying cars today has changed. I said, well, it's changed.
- 10:34Speaker 5: I said, it's changed a lot. I said, it's kind
- 10:38Speaker 5: of like going to Myrtle Beach. I would say that
- 10:40Speaker 5: West Virginians probably go to west Or to Myrtle Beach
- 10:44Speaker 5: more than any other destination.
- 10:46Speaker 6: Probably.
- 10:47Speaker 5: I'm gone, I'm going to safely say that, and I'm
- 10:51Speaker 5: going to tell you that if you lined up ten
- 10:52Speaker 5: people goes to Myrtle Beach frequently, they're going to give
- 10:55Speaker 5: you about eight different routes.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Oh yeah, sure, yeah, and they'll argue that, right yeah, yeah.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Well, if you do this, and then you can shave
- 11:02Speaker 4: off fifteen minutes there, and you avoid this place, and
- 11:04Speaker 4: this place is busy at three thirty, so you don't
- 11:06Speaker 4: want to go through there.
- 11:06Speaker 5: Yeah, but the destination doesn't change. You're still going to
- 11:10Speaker 5: Marble Beach. It's like going out and buying in that car.
- 11:16Speaker 5: There's eighteen different ways you can go by. The results
- 11:19Speaker 5: is you're going to own a car. The difficulty is
- 11:22Speaker 5: which path are you going to take? And I try
- 11:25Speaker 5: to tell people take the path of least resistance. If
- 11:27Speaker 5: you go to the dealership and you least get to
- 11:30Speaker 5: meet someone and kind of get to know their name,
- 11:34Speaker 5: and you know where their brick and water is, and
- 11:36Speaker 5: you know where their service department is, and if you
- 11:38Speaker 5: lay around there long enough, you'll probably.
- 11:40Speaker 6: Get to meet the desk guy or.
- 11:43Speaker 5: The sales manager or whatever term they use that politely
- 11:48Speaker 5: ask for their number. Also, politely ask for their cell
- 11:52Speaker 5: phone number. If that person doesn't want to give it
- 11:55Speaker 5: to you, you might want to choose a different direction
- 11:58Speaker 5: of be a female, be male, It doesn't matter. But
- 12:04Speaker 5: if you can get a contact, and then you can
- 12:07Speaker 5: slow it down a little bit and you get to
- 12:09Speaker 5: see the automobile. So what if it's a couple hundred
- 12:13Speaker 5: dollars more, do you know what that information you just
- 12:18Speaker 5: got in case there's a problem that's worth I mean tremendous.
- 12:21Speaker 6: Amount of money. So that's what my advice is to people.
- 12:25Speaker 5: I said, you'd really need to go fourteen states away
- 12:28Speaker 5: to get that vehicle, because I believe and listen, it's
- 12:32Speaker 5: a really really odd vehicle. And when I say odd,
- 12:37Speaker 5: there's really no scarcity in new inventory that I'm aware of.
- 12:41Speaker 5: There might be in an exotic line.
- 12:43Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 12:44Speaker 5: I don't deal with exotic. I'm a kind of a
- 12:46Speaker 5: normal well I won't say normal. I'm kind of a
- 12:49Speaker 5: cookie cutter guy that you know. Everything that I had
- 12:53Speaker 5: dealt with all the years I was in business was
- 12:56Speaker 5: not way right, way left. It was kind of a
- 12:59Speaker 5: normal car. You bought a vehicle from you or down.
- 13:01Speaker 5: You saw what my inventory was, Well, that's my customer base.
- 13:05Speaker 5: So those are the now the people's calling me that
- 13:07Speaker 5: wants to sell their call.
- 13:08Speaker 4: The one thing that really strikes me about what you
- 13:10Speaker 4: continue to do now that that and I was trying
- 13:13Speaker 4: to think of this. I think at another time we
- 13:15Speaker 4: were actually talking, and it reminds me of when you
- 13:21Speaker 4: have a like, say, before COVID, there was a small
- 13:23Speaker 4: little restaurant over next to your house that they didn't
- 13:26Speaker 4: advertise that they did pick up. But if you called him,
- 13:30Speaker 4: you've been going there long enough you could call him
- 13:32Speaker 4: and say, hey, I want to come over and pick
- 13:33Speaker 4: up whatever your favorite dinner is or whatever. They pack
- 13:35Speaker 4: it up for you and get it and every time
- 13:37Speaker 4: you got it was one hundred percent right, yes, perfect
- 13:39Speaker 4: every single time because they did it on a small scale.
- 13:41Speaker 4: They did it for you because your favor or a
- 13:42Speaker 4: regular or whatever it might be. They didn't advertise it
- 13:44Speaker 4: a lot, but if you went there a lot, they
- 13:46Speaker 4: would package it up for you and get it taken
- 13:47Speaker 4: care of whatever.
- 13:48Speaker 3: It might be.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Completely perfect. COVID rose along, and you know, people to
- 13:51Speaker 4: stay in business had to incorporate doing more takeout and
- 13:54Speaker 4: different things like that. Perfect but nothing wrong with it.
- 13:56Speaker 4: It's the business plan that has to go. You have
- 13:58Speaker 4: to follow it along with it. So the same little
- 14:00Speaker 4: and pop place it's always done, or it hasn't really
- 14:02Speaker 4: done a lot of pickup orders now has to start
- 14:06Speaker 4: doing it as basically their main kind of business. Right,
- 14:09Speaker 4: So what happens when you start incorporating, so it's no
- 14:11Speaker 4: longer you're just picking up the phone and you're talking
- 14:13Speaker 4: to somebody that your neighbor that you know, and you're
- 14:14Speaker 4: doing the deal for them. You're getting it through all
- 14:17Speaker 4: these different apps. You're getting all these different things through
- 14:19Speaker 4: all these different apps. Suddenly you got people driving to
- 14:21Speaker 4: come pick it up, to take it to different places
- 14:23Speaker 4: and stuff like that. The service quality decreases and there's
- 14:27Speaker 4: nothing you can do about it. The volume gets higher,
- 14:30Speaker 4: the specialization of people request so no longer is it
- 14:34Speaker 4: somebody that has the same dinner that they ordered every
- 14:36Speaker 4: single time that you know how to do. Suddenly you
- 14:38Speaker 4: got to hold the cheese on this, you got to
- 14:39Speaker 4: put let us on this. It's on and on and
- 14:41Speaker 4: on and on and on and in. Your hit rate
- 14:44Speaker 4: gets much less, you know, the customer satisfaction rate gets
- 14:47Speaker 4: much less. And that's what happens when, like in your case,
- 14:50Speaker 4: when you start going over state lines, you have paperwork
- 14:53Speaker 4: that doesn't really work. These companies that we talk about
- 14:55Speaker 4: that people love the apps for and stuff like that,
- 14:57Speaker 4: it might work just fine. If you have the mo
- 15:00Speaker 4: basic transaction on the face of the planet, it might work.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Okay.
- 15:04Speaker 4: I don't know, I've never used them before, but maybe
- 15:05Speaker 4: it's okay. I don't know if it's the most basic
- 15:07Speaker 4: thing that ever happened. But the moment that there's anything
- 15:10Speaker 4: that requires any sort of attention, you're lost. You have
- 15:13Speaker 4: no way to contact anybody, You have no way to
- 15:15Speaker 4: do anything, and then whatever momentum that you had just
- 15:17Speaker 4: evaporates because there's nothing left, you have nothing to base
- 15:20Speaker 4: it off of. And that's a real unfortunate place to
- 15:24Speaker 4: sit at as a as a consumer, as a customer,
- 15:26Speaker 4: as a client, whoever you might be. And that's where
- 15:28Speaker 4: we all are right now. I mean we are kind
- 15:30Speaker 4: of living in that place.
- 15:32Speaker 6: You're right. Do we have a phone call.
- 15:35Speaker 4: Let's go ahead and go to a phone call. See
- 15:36Speaker 4: if a caller you are an autocusta.
- 15:38Speaker 3: We put your right on there. What's your first name?
- 15:41Speaker 7: This is Judge Douglas, and I have a question there
- 15:43Speaker 7: from mister Dawson, if I may, of.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Course, Judge go ahead, gentlemen, Yes, sir.
- 15:47Speaker 7: I had a questions. I've listened to everything you were
- 15:51Speaker 7: saying about the Alla state. I guess bonafidees dealing with
- 15:57Speaker 7: a car, but I recently was wondering whenever I was
- 16:01Speaker 7: looking at you know, I have a pension for Jaguars, yes,
- 16:04Speaker 7: but I was wondering, how reliable in your opinion if
- 16:09Speaker 7: you want to adventure one, is carfax or services akin
- 16:13Speaker 7: to that accurate? Or how much would you like on
- 16:17Speaker 7: what's regard to accident notations and or mileage. Well, if
- 16:23Speaker 7: you want to venture one.
- 16:24Speaker 5: The mileage is normally connected with the last service that
- 16:33Speaker 5: was performed or in a vehicle. And what happens, Judge,
- 16:37Speaker 5: is and I've seen it throughout my career. Someone's busy,
- 16:41Speaker 5: someone takes a call, someone is writing another ticket, and
- 16:45Speaker 5: they transpost two figures and all of a sudden, your
- 16:47Speaker 5: vehicle goes to miles unknown.
- 16:50Speaker 6: So what I share with.
- 16:52Speaker 5: People, if you do any work where the malage is
- 16:56Speaker 5: written down, get a copy of that because in your case,
- 17:00Speaker 5: and when I say your case in ownership, you may
- 17:03Speaker 5: have to go back to prove that your maleage is correct.
- 17:07Speaker 5: So they only report what is giving to them and
- 17:12Speaker 5: they write into glossary. It doesn't say anything about being
- 17:16Speaker 5: factual now second of all, or the accident report. Let's
- 17:20Speaker 5: just say what I am seeing now. And this I
- 17:24Speaker 5: actually talked to my insurance agent because he's my friend
- 17:28Speaker 5: and he's going to see it more than I am.
- 17:30Speaker 5: It might be get it may very well have been litigated.
- 17:33Speaker 5: But when we had that helstorm around April the fifteenth
- 17:38Speaker 5: down in Day's Valley area, there was a lot of
- 17:40Speaker 5: damage done to vehicles. A lot of vehicles was repaired.
- 17:45Speaker 5: Carfax did not pick that up happening on April the fifteenth.
- 17:50Speaker 5: In other words, you have a vehicle that received ten
- 17:54Speaker 5: thousand dollars with a hell damage and got repaired or
- 17:57Speaker 5: made the twenty second, it may not hit Carfax until
- 18:02Speaker 5: July or August. And you've traded your car in and
- 18:05Speaker 5: they ran a Carfax and unless you share that information
- 18:09Speaker 5: with them, it is not on Carfax. Then you buy
- 18:12Speaker 5: the vehicle and you go to trade it two years
- 18:15Speaker 5: later and it comes up that has had moderate to
- 18:18Speaker 5: severe damage.
- 18:20Speaker 7: Okay, Well one other thing I was worried. Yeah, I
- 18:23Speaker 7: hadn't thought about the hill damage. But one thing I
- 18:25Speaker 7: was trying to think about those cars that along the
- 18:27Speaker 7: coastal areas the hurricanes account and I've got to thinking, well,
- 18:32Speaker 7: that's on car facts. That's not really an accident. It's
- 18:35Speaker 7: you know, it's apparel, it's natural causes.
- 18:39Speaker 5: Well, it's apparel. And during my years have experienced remember
- 18:44Speaker 5: Hurricane Katrina, I traded, I traded for a car. I
- 18:48Speaker 5: remember shortly thereafter when I say shortly thereafter, within a year,
- 18:52Speaker 5: and I'd never seen this on Carfax. Carfax out of
- 18:56Speaker 5: abundance of caution. Any car that was registered in that county,
- 18:59Speaker 5: what a county it was around in Louisiana and maybe
- 19:03Speaker 5: multiple counties that it would state that this vehicle was
- 19:08Speaker 5: in that county at the time of Hurricane Katrina. Now
- 19:13Speaker 5: it did not say it was involved in Hurricane Katrina.
- 19:16Speaker 5: But I love abundance of costume. That's what they were
- 19:19Speaker 5: putting on it. I remember the car because I did
- 19:23Speaker 5: more research. I thought, I have never seen this, Jim.
- 19:26Speaker 5: I've seen a lot of things that happens after the
- 19:30Speaker 5: fact that gets printed. Some of it's factual, some of
- 19:33Speaker 5: us not. But to go out and try to disprove
- 19:38Speaker 5: or prove it, it is sometimes a challenge because I've
- 19:42Speaker 5: came up on vehicles back in my buying days when
- 19:45Speaker 5: I was buying a lot of vehicles that I knew
- 19:48Speaker 5: it wasn't correct. Here's an example. I remember it comes
- 19:51Speaker 5: to me that we bought a vehicle that had air
- 19:54Speaker 5: bag deployment on the vehicle. I researched by found the
- 19:58Speaker 5: consumer and asked him, I SA, you know this car
- 20:01Speaker 5: that's telling me is that they said it wasn't my car,
- 20:04Speaker 5: it was the other car. Had a car had the
- 20:06Speaker 5: air bag employment. I had to go find a deputy
- 20:09Speaker 5: sheriff in that county. And this doesn't happen like within
- 20:12Speaker 5: a minute. I mean, this takes days and hours, you know,
- 20:15Speaker 5: of the day to do this to get a police report,
- 20:18Speaker 5: and he mistakenly put it on the wrong car. Car
- 20:22Speaker 5: Fax picks up six months later it's showing your car
- 20:24Speaker 5: with airbaged deployment. Your car did not have an air
- 20:27Speaker 5: bag deployment, but it's based upon information they received and
- 20:31Speaker 5: you have to gather up the proper information, send it
- 20:34Speaker 5: to car Facts with your narrative to get them to
- 20:38Speaker 5: take that off. And this doesn't happen overnight.
- 20:43Speaker 7: Wow, I guess in one of the lessons is buy
- 20:46Speaker 7: a home by at home now minimize the.
- 20:48Speaker 6: Chance you are correct. You are correct.
- 20:51Speaker 7: Thank you so much. I always appreciate your depth of knowledge.

- 23:20Speaker 4: In fact, I think you did a whole show when
- 23:21Speaker 4: at once. But the thing that still strikes me, and
- 23:23Speaker 4: I think you more or less taught me about this
- 23:25Speaker 4: one in Carvana or not carvanah, but Carfax. The crazy
- 23:30Speaker 4: thing about that is they've made themselves. This is a
- 23:32Speaker 4: private entity, a private company that has made itself an
- 23:35Speaker 4: intricate part of a vehicle transactions, and they are held
- 23:40Speaker 4: harmless from absolute everything. You cannot hold them responsible for anything.
- 23:45Speaker 4: The information's wrong, it's their fault. What you didn't get
- 23:48Speaker 4: it in time, it's their fault. It's something else, it's
- 23:50Speaker 4: somebody else's fault. Like it's the perfect business. It's seriously his.
- 23:54Speaker 5: And it's not mandatory, right regulated.
- 23:56Speaker 3: It's not, but it sort of is because everybody expects it.
- 23:59Speaker 7: Now.
- 23:59Speaker 5: I mean in my business when I had the dealership.
- 24:05Speaker 5: We ran a car fax when we purchased a car,
- 24:08Speaker 5: and we kept the car fax, and then when we
- 24:10Speaker 5: sold a car, because of what we had experienced, we
- 24:14Speaker 5: would do an update that day before you left.
- 24:18Speaker 6: And because it's time stamped.
- 24:20Speaker 5: So let's just say I bought a car thirty days ago,
- 24:23Speaker 5: car fax was clean. We do our prep work and
- 24:26Speaker 5: once you have to be careful of if they don't
- 24:28Speaker 5: run a car fax right then there timestamped, something could
- 24:33Speaker 5: happen and pop up on thirty days. So you could
- 24:36Speaker 5: buy it on the premise that everything on the car
- 24:39Speaker 5: fax was good and that day it is. But when
- 24:45Speaker 5: you purchased the car, you want to get an updated one.
- 24:48Speaker 5: Have the dealer say I want one, not the one
- 24:51Speaker 5: in your file cabinet that's been laying there for two months.
- 24:54Speaker 5: I want one done right now, because that brings you
- 24:57Speaker 5: up to the other now if something happens after that.
- 25:00Speaker 5: In fact, it's the luck of the draw. I was
- 25:03Speaker 5: telling Dale off the air. Kim drives a twenty three
- 25:10Speaker 5: x three fifty. She was taking the grandkids home. I
- 25:13Speaker 5: don't know a year or two ago, a lady pulled
- 25:17Speaker 5: out in front of it. Was a thirty five mile
- 25:18Speaker 5: in our christ It wasn't devastating, but it cracked the headlights,
- 25:23Speaker 5: the hood, the grill, and the bottom face on the Lexus.
- 25:27Speaker 5: No fault of Kim's you know. Kevin and Dillispie built
- 25:31Speaker 5: did the repair work. Kevin, I think it's a magician.
- 25:34Speaker 5: He did a wonderful job. And it was almost insight
- 25:37Speaker 5: of Kevin's store. So we took it over and Kevin
- 25:40Speaker 5: repaired it and got it back well, just for curiosity.
- 25:43Speaker 5: A month or two later, I ran a car fights
- 25:46Speaker 5: from the Lexus. Moderate to severe damage was reported. Dropped
- 25:52Speaker 5: the valuation of that car that I owned ten thousand dollars. Wow,
- 25:58Speaker 5: because the word moderates severe. It was about twelve thousand
- 26:01Speaker 5: dollars worth of damage. Excellent job. Thirty five hundred apiece headlights,
- 26:06Speaker 5: so seven thousand of it was.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Headlight just a material.
- 26:08Speaker 5: Yes, So the labor wasn't that much. I mean Kevin
- 26:11Speaker 5: popped two headlights and a grill and a hood orn
- 26:14Speaker 5: and spread the hood, so it was it was taking
- 26:17Speaker 5: off and replacing, but was replacing with valuable or ell
- 26:21Speaker 5: with expensive parts.
- 26:22Speaker 3: That's that's the I just like those stories.
- 26:25Speaker 6: They're so frustrating.
- 26:27Speaker 5: I argued the point the State Farm, which was the
- 26:31Speaker 5: insurance from the other side, it was relentless and wouldn't
- 26:36Speaker 5: call me back, and I would call, I would call,
- 26:38Speaker 5: I would call and trying to.
- 26:42Speaker 6: Lessen my loss.
- 26:44Speaker 5: And it finally got to the point they won because
- 26:47Speaker 5: they wore me down. And you know, I did not
- 26:51Speaker 5: sell like she still has it, so I didn't.
- 26:53Speaker 6: I did not take a.
- 26:55Speaker 5: Ten thousand dollars monetary hit as far as dollars and dollars,
- 27:00Speaker 5: but evaluation of the car. Now, over time that evaluations dropped.
- 27:04Speaker 5: I venture to say, I haven't done it. But if
- 27:06Speaker 5: I was to go out and scan that do a
- 27:09Speaker 5: market report, it's probably around five thousand, because with the
- 27:13Speaker 5: aging of the car, the severity of the drop in
- 27:17Speaker 5: valuation will drop. I tell people, I said, diminished value
- 27:21Speaker 5: is only if you go sell the car tomorrow, then yes,
- 27:25Speaker 5: you're probably going to get diminished value. But if you're
- 27:27Speaker 5: planning to keep the car, it's just the number on
- 27:30Speaker 5: a sheet. But now where I was arguing to point,
- 27:33Speaker 5: I was at the time a selling automobile dealer with inventory.
- 27:37Speaker 5: This was inventory. Yes I was allowing Kim to drive it,
- 27:41Speaker 5: but normally what I have done in the past in
- 27:44Speaker 5: my demos and Kim's demo was one year and then
- 27:48Speaker 5: flip them out.
- 27:49Speaker 3: We need a color. You've called in. You're on with
- 27:53Speaker 3: Larry Dawson. What's your first name?
- 27:54Speaker 10: Hi, guys, Jerry here, Jerry, Hello, Jerry. Well, I've told
- 27:58Speaker 10: this story before, but I want to add something to it.
- 28:02Speaker 10: Sometime around two thousand and three, I wanted a car
- 28:07Speaker 10: that could not be found in this area. Well, I
- 28:10Speaker 10: found a used one in Georgia. I used the car fax.
- 28:15Speaker 10: He it was clean. Drove all the way down there,
- 28:19Speaker 10: drove the car, and the steering seemed a little weird
- 28:24Speaker 10: to me, So I asked the dealer. Now, this was
- 28:26Speaker 10: a big dealer new cars and used cars, and he
- 28:30Speaker 10: told me that this was one of the new models,
- 28:34Speaker 10: that the faster you went, the more the steering tightened up. Well,
- 28:41Speaker 10: since this was somewhat of an exotic little car, I
- 28:45Speaker 10: believed me. I come home. I drive the car for
- 28:49Speaker 10: a couple of months, and that steering wasn't right. I
- 28:54Speaker 10: knew it wasn't right, So I took it to a
- 28:57Speaker 10: local shop here to have the front end the line
- 29:00Speaker 10: and take a look at it. They told me that
- 29:04Speaker 10: that front end had moved back about six inches in
- 29:08Speaker 10: a serious wreck. Now this is after I had checked Carfax,
- 29:13Speaker 10: which was clean on that car. Yes, all right, So
- 29:17Speaker 10: I went back like you did. I went back and
- 29:20Speaker 10: checked the Carfax again. Now there it is serious front
- 29:25Speaker 10: end damage on this car. So I called Carfax and
- 29:29Speaker 10: I talked to them about it, and they said, well,
- 29:31Speaker 10: you've got to read the fine print. At that time,
- 29:35Speaker 10: it said something about you know, we're not responsible for
- 29:39Speaker 10: the first thirty days or something like that. In other words,
- 29:43Speaker 10: that serious wreck had not been turned into Carfax until
- 29:48Speaker 10: after they sold that car. Now they knew that car
- 29:51Speaker 10: was wrecked, but they lied to me about it being wrecked.
- 29:56Speaker 5: Well, it's the light time between the report in other words,
- 30:00Speaker 5: is there's not an in the sky that when the
- 30:03Speaker 5: accident happened and the accident repair was done, it was
- 30:07Speaker 5: the delay from the repair shop to Carfax, and then
- 30:11Speaker 5: it takes Carfax a period of time to report it.
- 30:15Speaker 5: And you're right, Jerry, that it happens every day.
- 30:19Speaker 4: But that could happen by accident for people in good faith,
- 30:22Speaker 4: but also for people that outbreak and bad faith.
- 30:24Speaker 3: You could weaponize that.
- 30:26Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, there is, Yes, that is correct.
- 30:29Speaker 10: All I can say, is carfax is a tool to
- 30:33Speaker 10: be used that period? Thank you?
- 30:38Speaker 5: Yes, well, you know on the flip side, I mean
- 30:41Speaker 5: what Jerry's exactly right. I have bought cars that had
- 30:44Speaker 5: let's say, not the best car fax, but I knew
- 30:47Speaker 5: the story, or I had the repair bill, or I
- 30:51Speaker 5: had the repair bill such as hell damage. I bought
- 30:55Speaker 5: a GMC something something here of a couple of months ago.
- 30:59Speaker 5: I've never seen this done. It was in the healthstorm,
- 31:02Speaker 5: the April fifteenth helstorm. The gentleman, instead of having it
- 31:06Speaker 5: done paintless or dentless repair, replaced every panel on the
- 31:12Speaker 5: vehicle at a local dealership. The bill was sixteen fouls dollars.
- 31:17Speaker 5: I saw it, and then he traded it and it
- 31:21Speaker 5: hadn't hit Carfax yet, and then it hit Carfax. But
- 31:24Speaker 5: I researched found the gentleman explained my position. I said,
- 31:30Speaker 5: could I get a copy of that? Because it said
- 31:33Speaker 5: severe on the carfax. This was a sixteen thousand miles truck,
- 31:38Speaker 5: a very nice truck, but the words severe was on that.
- 31:42Speaker 5: Now you're looking at vehicle it says severe. You don't
- 31:47Speaker 5: know the story. I did more research on it and
- 31:49Speaker 5: I found it. But once again, I have time on
- 31:52Speaker 5: my side. That's why I think I'm doing such a
- 31:54Speaker 5: good job buying cars. And so many people comes to
- 31:56Speaker 5: me is that this isn't a job. This is a passion.
- 32:00Speaker 5: You know. I just have something to do. It allows
- 32:03Speaker 5: me to get up and have a reason to motivate.
- 32:06Speaker 5: And then at two o'clock in the afternoon, I go
- 32:07Speaker 5: to farm. But that's what I do.
- 32:11Speaker 6: And and so.
- 32:12Speaker 5: People are relying. They'll call me and I said, well,
- 32:15Speaker 5: let's slow down.
- 32:16Speaker 6: Let me hear.
- 32:16Speaker 5: Well, they'll tax they text and I call them. I said,
- 32:20Speaker 5: can you take a call. Let's have a conversation, because
- 32:23Speaker 5: I want all the story, not your side. But it's
- 32:27Speaker 5: like the lady in Florida, I said, just call me.
- 32:29Speaker 5: Let's walk through this together. And I did research them
- 32:32Speaker 5: two vehicles for her. And I was with her boyfriend
- 32:37Speaker 5: feel on say, last night in a board meeting, and
- 32:39Speaker 5: I suspect she probably bought I find out I'm going
- 32:41Speaker 5: Florida for a birthday to the end of October.
- 32:44Speaker 6: But she didn't know.
- 32:47Speaker 5: I mean, I shared information. She had no idea, and
- 32:50Speaker 5: I said, well, let's look at this way. Her husband
- 32:52Speaker 5: or excuse me, or boyfriend's in the real estate business,
- 32:55Speaker 5: and trust me, I lean on him for information because
- 32:58Speaker 5: we're friends. Free and from I said, hey, what do
- 33:01Speaker 5: you think about this? But they come to me for
- 33:03Speaker 5: their automobiles, and I've also helped him sell I don't know.
- 33:08Speaker 6: Two or three four cars.
- 33:09Speaker 5: He just brought up to me and he said, hey,
- 33:11Speaker 5: can you sell this for me? And I said sure,
- 33:13Speaker 5: And we make it, We dispose, we make them go away.
- 33:16Speaker 5: Well where I think I do, where I see at.
- 33:19Speaker 5: I'm not for everybody, but I do a lot of
- 33:22Speaker 5: house calls. I do a lot of situations where it
- 33:25Speaker 5: gets real personal. Somebody's getting illed, somebody's passed, we've had
- 33:30Speaker 5: maybe a divorce in the family. They just don't want
- 33:34Speaker 5: to put all that out there. They want They don't
- 33:36Speaker 5: want to carve on a truck showing up the house
- 33:39Speaker 5: loading up Grandpa's car. They don't want it sitting on
- 33:43Speaker 5: the front line across the street tomorrow with a big
- 33:46Speaker 5: sign on it.
- 33:46Speaker 2: You know.
- 33:47Speaker 5: They just want private closure. They'll call I go to
- 33:51Speaker 5: the house. Mom's not doing well, day is not doing well.
- 33:54Speaker 5: We've lost, we've lost, you know, And I just go there.
- 33:57Speaker 5: They know me and they feel very comfortable. Actually, I
- 34:02Speaker 5: saved a text. I saved a text from gentlemen just
- 34:05Speaker 5: to show people. I don't put his name on it,
- 34:07Speaker 5: but I just kind of barely know him. But I
- 34:11Speaker 5: went to his mother's house. She moved here. She's ninish,
- 34:15Speaker 5: was not going to drive carbon sitting drive away for
- 34:17Speaker 5: a year. It was time I went through that. I
- 34:20Speaker 5: had a mother ninety four. I had to go through that.
- 34:23Speaker 5: I understand that that is very difficult. When you go
- 34:27Speaker 5: do that, the son or the daughter really doesn't want
- 34:30Speaker 5: to do that. So, you know, I think I have
- 34:33Speaker 5: the experience to go in and sit down and make
- 34:36Speaker 5: things as calm as can be. Yes, there's tears, and
- 34:39Speaker 5: trust me, I've seen tears. But it was time for
- 34:43Speaker 5: it to go away. You know, it's it's never easy.
- 34:46Speaker 5: It was not easy with my mother. It was not
- 34:48Speaker 5: easy with my father. My father died of glio of blastoma,
- 34:51Speaker 5: which is a brain cancer. He was not allowed to drive.
- 34:53Speaker 5: That was a difficult position, you know, your father, I
- 34:57Speaker 5: mean the man of the house. You say you can't drive,
- 34:59Speaker 5: no long That was a that was a battle but
- 35:02Speaker 5: we handled that. But it also taught me there was
- 35:05Speaker 5: a need out there. And and and I have passion
- 35:08Speaker 5: and if I if you call me, you're gonna you're
- 35:11Speaker 5: gonna figure that out real soon. Call me, then call
- 35:13Speaker 5: someone else and you'll call me back. Now, if you
- 35:17Speaker 5: type and text, you don't know my passion. You don't
- 35:20Speaker 5: even know my personality. So that's why I flip it
- 35:23Speaker 5: to a call and say, okay, Dale, tell me what's
- 35:25Speaker 5: going with mom. Your mother lives in Beaumont. I've learned
- 35:28Speaker 5: that with you. You know, one day you may call me.
- 35:31Speaker 5: Hope it never comes, but one day it may, and
- 35:34Speaker 5: that one on one goes a lot longer.
- 35:37Speaker 6: And then let me tell you what else it does.
- 35:39Speaker 5: It gives you repetitive business that because that's where I
- 35:45Speaker 5: have worked, and that's what I've always done.
- 35:47Speaker 4: Well, you deal with somewhere with dignity, and that word
- 35:49Speaker 4: travels and if they want to handle another situation with dignity,
- 35:52Speaker 4: and it goes on and on and on.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 35:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I've long down Sleepy Hollow. I've belonged down there
- 35:56Speaker 5: since in ninety one. I've seen people that they get
- 36:01Speaker 5: a ill and pass away. I've had collaps down there,
- 36:03Speaker 5: but I get to call. I was over guy's house,
- 36:08Speaker 5: I don't know, a couple of years ago dear friend
- 36:11Speaker 5: lost his daughter. You know, he wanted to right and
- 36:15Speaker 5: he knew that I would come down, that would happen,
- 36:17Speaker 5: and he wouldn't see it down the street.
- 36:19Speaker 4: Well, I never even thought about something like that. That's
- 36:22Speaker 4: such an unfortunate situation to think of, But that's definitely
- 36:26Speaker 4: something that I mean, obviously, if you have a loved
- 36:29Speaker 4: one that you lose, you probably don't want to deal
- 36:31Speaker 4: with that now.
- 36:31Speaker 6: You don't want to and you don't want to see
- 36:33Speaker 6: the car.
- 36:33Speaker 4: Yeah right you and man, I can't even imagine a
- 36:35Speaker 4: situation where it's your child. I mean, you know, I mean,
- 36:39Speaker 4: it's not the first thing you think of in that
- 36:40Speaker 4: type of situation, but certainly something that could lead to
- 36:42Speaker 4: some emotional distress.
- 36:44Speaker 3: And so that's a.
- 36:46Speaker 4: Way to handle that with a lot of dignity and
- 36:49Speaker 4: respect and not have to worry about it as much.
- 36:51Speaker 4: I think that's a great idea. I never even thought
- 36:52Speaker 4: of that before. Larry Dawson has been our guest this morning,
