- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to the Guitar Jet podcast, where you'll skyrocket your
- 0:03Speaker 1: knowledge of theory, techniques and fundamentals for guitar. Hey, it's
- 0:09Speaker 1: Miles and I'm going to be talking to you about
- 0:11Speaker 1: dietonic arpeggios on the guitar today. Now, if you don't
- 0:14Speaker 1: know what dietonic means, it means from the scale. So
- 0:17Speaker 1: let's look at a scale like the C scale, which
- 0:19Speaker 1: has the nuts cdefga, MB, and then you can construct
- 0:24Speaker 1: the chords in the C major scale by stacking each
- 0:27Speaker 1: note in thirds. So that means you'd go to your
- 0:31Speaker 1: first note C, and you'd stack every other notes I'd
- 0:34Speaker 1: give you ce and G, and that will give you
- 0:36Speaker 1: the first chord in the scale, which is the C
- 0:38Speaker 1: major chord. And if you do this with every degree
- 0:41Speaker 1: of the scale, you will get a consistent formula for
- 0:45Speaker 1: every major scale. And that chord formula, or this series
- 0:50Speaker 1: of chords i should say, is major minor, minor, major, major,
- 0:54Speaker 1: minor diminished. And when you break down a chord and
- 0:58Speaker 1: play it one other at a time, you get the arpeggios.
- 1:02Speaker 1: So the diatonic arpeggios, and the key of C major
- 1:07Speaker 1: would be C major, D minor E minor, F major,
- 1:12Speaker 1: G major, A minor, and B diminished. Now, if you
- 1:17Speaker 1: want to know an easy way to play this, first,
- 1:20Speaker 1: you would outline the scale on a single string, So,
- 1:25Speaker 1: for example, you could play the C major scale on
- 1:28Speaker 1: the B string at frets one, three, five, seven, eight, ten,
- 1:32Speaker 1: and twelve. Sorry not for a seven fret six, and
- 1:35Speaker 1: so I'd give you the note CD E F G
- 1:38Speaker 1: A M B. And of course it's much easier to
- 1:41Speaker 1: understand with a guitar tab, which I will link to
- 1:44Speaker 1: in the show notes. But from here you can construct
- 1:48Speaker 1: your chords in the C major scale, your diatonic chords,
- 1:52Speaker 1: and then when you play those diatonic chords one note
- 1:56Speaker 1: at a time, then they become arpeggios. And that's basically
- 2:01Speaker 1: how diatonic arpeggios work. And so practice them on single
- 2:06Speaker 1: strings and start to learn different tryad inversions so that
- 2:12Speaker 1: you can play tryad arpeggios or diatonic arpeggios all over
- 2:16Speaker 1: the frepboard. Thank you so much for listening to today's podcast,
- 2:20Speaker 1: and don't forget to follow or subscribe to the show

- 2:29Speaker 1: a fantastic day and keep rocking on your guitar
