This August, skywatchers are in for a cosmic treat: the Perseid meteor shower peaks during the new moon, offering near-dark skies and up to 100 meteors an hour—best viewed August 12th into the 13th, but visible from late July through August 23rd. Don’t forget, that same night also brings a partial solar eclipse (up to 60% coverage in parts of North America) followed by the full “Grain Moon” or “Sturgeon Moon.” The Milky Way, Saturn, Venus, Jupiter, and Mars are all prime targets for stargazers.
