- 0:19Speaker 1: Hey, I feel like that went good.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, Welcome to the first ever episode of
- 0:25Speaker 2: Racing with the Boys.
- 0:26Speaker 3: We have Ryan Radam racing with the.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Boys. Two very special guests to kick it off for us.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Today we got first time into the show, Bubba Wallace
- 0:36Speaker 2: is give him around a plus his own individuals like
- 0:41Speaker 2: Ryan Lady, a friend of the show coming in after
- 0:43Speaker 2: a couple of years, got a nice mustache. Last time
- 0:45Speaker 2: he was clean cut. This guy saw a mustache maybe
- 0:46Speaker 2: on this bus a few years ago, and I gotta
- 0:48Speaker 2: tuned up a little bit. Let's give you that round
- 0:50Speaker 2: of a puzzle.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Dive into that stage about racing with the Boys, same chaos,
- 0:55Speaker 1: same chemistry, juice now at what two hundred miles an hour?
- 0:58Speaker 2: Hey, yeah, I like that. That's kind of nice. You're
- 1:01Speaker 2: talking about talk about speed until you guys, long time
- 1:04Speaker 2: to get here today. We don't drive fastlew You just
- 1:10Speaker 2: don't drive everywhere.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Uh yeah, surprisingly we don't. Don't. Surprisingly we don't. But no, yeah,
- 1:15Speaker 4: we were a little late. Sorry, were we handful of
- 1:18Speaker 4: mass late? We stopped an eight.
- 1:19Speaker 2: As you should.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Yeah. Our guy told us he's like they said that
- 1:22Speaker 1: they were hungry.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Have you ever been the Silver Sands?
- 1:25Speaker 2: No, what's a Silver stands?
- 1:26Speaker 4: Surprise? The little soul food spot down the road. Okay,
- 1:30Speaker 4: there's a lot of culture in a NASCAR today like
- 1:34Speaker 4: that they're back there taking their time. It was solid.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Hey, what's the place in Germantown that has like the
- 1:38Speaker 2: bench style of seating? You take your phones off?
- 1:40Speaker 1: That's a god.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Yeah, take your phones off?
- 1:45Speaker 2: So yeah, you you're not allowed to be on your phone.
- 1:48Speaker 2: And it's like you sit at like lunch table type
- 1:50Speaker 2: of stuff. So it'll be like us four sitting down
- 1:52Speaker 2: then like for other people will sit down next to us,
- 1:54Speaker 2: so we don't even know. Not a lot have phones out.
- 1:56Speaker 2: They have kind of like the same entrees every single time,
- 1:59Speaker 2: and then a couple of it's nice little it's all social.
- 2:01Speaker 2: It's really good.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Interesting.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yeah, solid, we so we're we are not here to
- 2:06Speaker 2: pretend like we know everything about NASCAR the whole world
- 2:08Speaker 2: that takes place. I do want to know though, Like
- 2:12Speaker 2: when you guys are going this fast on Sundays Mondays,
- 2:14Speaker 2: you're driving around you know the pedestrian roads, how difficult
- 2:17Speaker 2: is it for you not to kind of get going?
- 2:20Speaker 4: For me, it's it's not too bad. Because obviously you
- 2:23Speaker 4: have to obey the speed laws or not. It's the
- 2:26Speaker 4: last thing you want to do is get pulled over.
- 2:30Speaker 4: But what I struggle with is people taking their sweet
- 2:33Speaker 4: time getting from point A to point BAH. So like
- 2:36Speaker 4: I'm always trying to get to If I'm going to
- 2:38Speaker 4: his house, he lives seven minutes away, like I'm trying
- 2:41Speaker 4: to get there in five. You know what I'm saying
- 2:47Speaker 4: is legally, yes, Like I'm trying to time the light
- 2:49Speaker 4: if I have to take a short cut through a
- 2:51Speaker 4: through a public's parking lot or whatnot, I'm I'm doing it.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah, take the game of manipulating system.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Are working on your start by when the red like
- 3:00Speaker 1: goes green, there staring at the Yeah, the reaction times
- 3:03Speaker 1: working on that, Oh that's one.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yeah again, not a lot. They kind of go and
- 3:09Speaker 2: then there's a pace car. The pace car peels off
- 3:10Speaker 2: and and they're off and they're already driving at a
- 3:12Speaker 2: certain speed limit.
- 3:13Speaker 1: That's on me.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I'll plays got to keep it in your bag.
- 3:17Speaker 4: But I mean it goes back to your action time
- 3:19Speaker 4: that like I mentioned, So, yes, you're always working on that.
- 3:21Speaker 4: When I see it turned green, I'm going yeah, So you're.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Always on your craft. Yeah, obviously you you race for
- 3:29Speaker 1: Michael George team, so I know you get a chipload
- 3:31Speaker 1: of questions about what Michael George. Like, we're not here
- 3:33Speaker 1: to ask you about that if you could give it,
- 3:34Speaker 1: but a couple of.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Like racing for Michael Jordian, we talked, I will go
- 3:41Speaker 4: to dinner. I'll get your question a second. We'll go
- 3:44Speaker 4: to dinner and people will come up, like fans a
- 3:47Speaker 4: come up and and you know, I hate to bug you,
- 3:49Speaker 4: but anyway, yeah, right there. Uh no, it's just it's
- 3:54Speaker 4: been awesome. It's been six years since the inception of
- 3:59Speaker 4: twenty three eleven, and uh we've had a lot of
- 4:01Speaker 4: fun along the way, a lot of growing pains, a
- 4:04Speaker 4: lot of success stories. So uh, just proud to play
- 4:07Speaker 4: a small part, you know, from a team that that
- 4:09Speaker 4: started out as as a rumor.
- 4:11Speaker 1: You know.
- 4:12Speaker 4: That's how our team started. It was some some news
- 4:16Speaker 4: article I put that that, uh, Denny Hamlin and Michael
- 4:18Speaker 4: Jordan were starting a race team, and it wasn't even true.
- 4:21Speaker 4: And Dinny had sent the idea to MJ and and
- 4:24Speaker 4: MJ was like, you got my number if you want
- 4:26Speaker 4: to make it true. So that's that's how it all began.
- 4:30Speaker 4: I was, Yeah, I was tabbed to be the first driver,
- 4:32Speaker 4: so it's uh, it's been pretty special.
- 4:34Speaker 2: That's yeah.
- 4:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:36Speaker 2: And also he walks by the end of the pit
- 4:39Speaker 2: and you're just like, yo, that's one of the goats
- 4:41Speaker 2: of all goats. How is it so? Denny Hamlin he's
- 4:43Speaker 2: also on the team, but he's you have a bit
- 4:45Speaker 2: of a tropic thunder situation taking place, right, Yeah, you
- 4:47Speaker 2: have the owner allowed to pass him and beat it. Yeah,
- 4:52Speaker 2: how does so? You guys usually a race team of
- 4:54Speaker 2: three correct, yes, and then everyone sometimes. So let's say
- 4:59Speaker 2: we're one and two and it's you and Hamlin. You
- 5:02Speaker 2: guys are kind of sitting there. There's about five laps left,
- 5:04Speaker 2: is there like a.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Uh pull up the replay from Kansas twenty twenty five
- 5:09Speaker 4: like this.
- 5:09Speaker 2: We're already talking shit.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Yeah, So Danny's pretty good about you beating his ass
- 5:14Speaker 2: on the track.
- 5:16Speaker 4: You'll see, uh yeah, that top one there you go? Yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 4: that one, the third link, third link? Yeah. Yeah, So
- 5:28Speaker 4: I'm leading, my teammate is third starting behind me, and
- 5:34Speaker 4: then Denny is sixth. So you could probably you probably
- 5:39Speaker 4: go like a third of the way. Yeah, you can
- 5:40Speaker 4: skip through this part. There you go, so you're leading,
- 5:43Speaker 4: there you go. There it is, this is last time.
- 5:45Speaker 4: We just took the white flag. I'm leading right now, Haling.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Denny is second right here.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Okay, he's high.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Yep.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Did you been the knee there? Okay, you didn't bend.
- 6:02Speaker 4: The knee fenced, just put me right on the fence.
- 6:05Speaker 4: And they didn't win the race?
- 6:09Speaker 2: What do you Okay? So what is the conversation like
- 6:11Speaker 2: when you guys get back, you're like, hey, how'd that go?
- 6:13Speaker 2: How'd that go for you?
- 6:14Speaker 4: It went? Yeah?
- 6:17Speaker 1: What's the combos that emotions are obviously emotions are high.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, of course that was you know for me,
- 6:25Speaker 4: that was locking ourselves into the next round of the playoffs. Uh,
- 6:29Speaker 4: there's my comment. I think I said douche.
- 6:34Speaker 5: Yeah, the amount of stars.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I was obviously super frustrated. And then
- 6:40Speaker 4: you could get into the business side of things. Right,
- 6:43Speaker 4: it's one of his cars that he now eliminated from
- 6:45Speaker 4: the next round in the playoffs, So that's on him.
- 6:48Speaker 1: So and is he kind of just like.
- 6:51Speaker 4: Fuck, he's right, argue never say those words.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Oh you also damage of the car, we have to
- 7:00Speaker 2: pay for that. That comes out of your pocket. I
- 7:03Speaker 2: was supposed to make the playoffs. I'm out of the playoffs.
- 7:05Speaker 2: You lost more money out of your pocket.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Yeah, we could have went one being my fault for
- 7:09Speaker 4: just being alive. Yeah.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Sometimes, man, it sounds like you guys been in football
- 7:14Speaker 2: locker room the whole life head coach talk right there. Yeah,
- 7:17Speaker 2: that is wild.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:19Speaker 2: So I was watching Mitchie Baby, he was helping me.
- 7:21Speaker 2: We were going through all the stuff, and we're watching
- 7:23Speaker 2: what was called radioactive radioactive, And you guys are on
- 7:26Speaker 2: your book when you're driving. What does the communication look
- 7:30Speaker 2: like when you obviously over headsets talking to your crew
- 7:32Speaker 2: chief and back and forth in there. But if there's
- 7:34Speaker 2: another driver who's on a different team, I see you
- 7:36Speaker 2: guys kind of putting the handout doing some hand signals,
- 7:38Speaker 2: like you're trying to turn left, stop, whatever it is
- 7:40Speaker 2: going to be.
- 7:40Speaker 4: It's usually just a middle finger, Oh is it?
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just a bird, and we rip around.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Probably yeah, someone you know, upset, Shit, it's a bird.
- 7:47Speaker 5: Sometimes you get a sarcastic thumbs up or a good
- 7:49Speaker 5: thumbs up. Bubba and I have shot the shocker to
- 7:53Speaker 5: each other for the last decade.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Next to each other yeah, is he is he passed
- 7:59Speaker 4: or I passed throughout the chak appreciate waiting for TV
- 8:06Speaker 4: to catch you.
- 8:07Speaker 2: They never have at this point, I feel like they
- 8:09Speaker 2: have a good opportunity here now.
- 8:13Speaker 1: In the race. Are you guys like you know, listening
- 8:16Speaker 1: I guess to the crew chief to where you're taking
- 8:18Speaker 1: all the strategies and advice that he's communicating to you.
- 8:21Speaker 5: I mean we talk a lot pre race about you know, situations.
- 8:25Speaker 5: But then like I mean, you guys know, like you
- 8:28Speaker 5: can have plan A or Z, but rarely you know
- 8:31Speaker 5: that happens, so you have to kind of audible all
- 8:33Speaker 5: the time, you know. So mainly I think all that
- 8:38Speaker 5: stuff happens like under yellow, under caution, certain time cautions.
- 8:43Speaker 5: You know, the true chief will change up strategy of
- 8:45Speaker 5: what maybe previously planned, and then there's just a conversation
- 8:49Speaker 5: back and forth. You know, Hey, a lot of times Jonathan,
- 8:52Speaker 5: my kerchief will ask me what do you think about this?
- 8:54Speaker 5: You know, I'm thinking that I will kind of get
- 8:55Speaker 5: my opinion at the end of the day. It's his call,
- 8:57Speaker 5: Like I'm back at one hundred percent, So it's not
- 8:59Speaker 5: like a constant communication. I'd say it's maybe ten percent
- 9:03Speaker 5: of the race.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Are there ever times where you you agree with what
- 9:08Speaker 1: they're saying, but then you do your own thing based
- 9:10Speaker 1: off your own instinct example, it rarely happens like and
- 9:15Speaker 1: if it does happen, like what what goes down? What
- 9:18Speaker 1: goes down? As is happening, Either you prove your instinct
- 9:21Speaker 1: right and you're like, hey, I just made the call.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Yeah the moment I try not to do.
- 9:25Speaker 5: I mean some guys maybe are a little bit more
- 9:27Speaker 5: that way, but like, I trust what his plan is
- 9:31Speaker 5: one hundred percent. You know, if it works out, great,
- 9:32Speaker 5: If it doesn't, then just part of it. But I
- 9:34Speaker 5: will rarely go against what Jonathan's telling me as far
- 9:38Speaker 5: as his plan, you know, because that's he has a
- 9:41Speaker 5: wider scope of what's going on than I sitting behind
- 9:43Speaker 5: the wheel. So I don't know, I think it's somewhat
- 9:47Speaker 5: it's a dual effort, but he runs really eighty percent
- 9:51Speaker 5: of the show.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Yeah, how about for you, Bubba, Has there been a
- 9:54Speaker 1: time to where you made a decision on your own
- 9:56Speaker 1: and either it paid off where you're like, fuck, I
- 9:58Speaker 1: kind of learned the hard way there.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Not not really, so I kind of you know, there's
- 10:03Speaker 4: there's so much like he talked about, there's so much
- 10:05Speaker 4: talk pre race on the strategy side of things, and man,
- 10:10Speaker 4: does it rarely ever play out to how you mathed
- 10:14Speaker 4: it out right? No, And so I've I've taken kind
- 10:18Speaker 4: of a back seat, Like I hear my engineers and
- 10:20Speaker 4: crew chiefs talk and get a thousand foot view level
- 10:24Speaker 4: of kind of what to understand, what to expect. But
- 10:26Speaker 4: then again, you trust their word and they have all
- 10:29Speaker 4: the data in front of them to see, you know,
- 10:32Speaker 4: when we're gonna pit at this time, it should bring
- 10:34Speaker 4: us back out right here versus I think we need
- 10:36Speaker 4: to put five out five laps earlier. Well, that could
- 10:39Speaker 4: have put us in a way worse position. Uh, they
- 10:41Speaker 4: have all the data in real time that we can
- 10:43Speaker 4: see all those things.
- 10:44Speaker 5: Like if you guys ever run into instance when you're
- 10:46Speaker 5: playing like you're watching film, if you're prepared for this,
- 10:48Speaker 5: but then they show up completely different than what you expected.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah yeahs and yeah yeah, Or they tell you
- 10:57Speaker 2: to do something on a certain play and think in
- 11:00Speaker 2: your head like it's we we wait. It would be
- 11:01Speaker 2: way easier for me just to approach it from this place.
- 11:04Speaker 2: But I was a guy that would just approach it
- 11:05Speaker 2: from the place I thought was best kind of live
- 11:07Speaker 2: and die by that sword a little bit.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I wasn't.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I wasn't the best with authority figures, you know what
- 11:11Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Just defensively too, Like you might get a look to
- 11:14Speaker 1: where you go on the sideline because you're saying, hey, guys,
- 11:16Speaker 1: they're ultimately ending up in this formation, the one that
- 11:18Speaker 1: we practiced and went over. We still need this check
- 11:21Speaker 1: in place. But yeah, you're kind of going on the fly.
- 11:24Speaker 2: So when we sit here and I'm like, I'm on
- 11:26Speaker 2: a Southwest flight and I'm watching F one for the
- 11:29Speaker 2: fifteenth time, and I'm watching Brad Pitt argue with his
- 11:32Speaker 2: crew chief about certain types of tires. That stuff's not
- 11:34Speaker 2: really taking place on a NASCAR.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Track, Not really, I don't think. So. I didn't watch
- 11:39Speaker 4: the movie.
- 11:40Speaker 2: You haven't seen the movie. It's a good movie, but
- 11:41Speaker 2: it's I know it's a movie.
- 11:43Speaker 4: I haven't watched.
- 11:44Speaker 5: It is like, is there like a no, I just
- 11:46Speaker 5: haven't seen it. It's like out of like bitterness, Yes,
- 11:50Speaker 5: I haven't seen the movie. How does like obviously just
- 11:59Speaker 5: we just clipped it.
- 11:59Speaker 2: We're gonna.
- 12:03Speaker 5: Wanted to watch to watch anything, I can't watch anything
- 12:07Speaker 5: besides nowadays.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Hits that dad.
- 12:12Speaker 2: I kind of hate that dad though. He makes us
- 12:13Speaker 2: all look terrible, Like how do you have that much
- 12:15Speaker 2: time to be the best dad? And then you realize
- 12:18Speaker 2: episodes ten minutes, like I can do ten minutes a day.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Anybody on Daniel Tiger?
- 12:22Speaker 2: No, yeah, you guys are on that.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Yeah, Daniel Tiger's good, little bear old school that's what
- 12:29Speaker 1: about bears good?
- 12:31Speaker 2: Uh? Right? When you're driving for a company like Penske,
- 12:34Speaker 2: which is like kind of one of the top. They've
- 12:36Speaker 2: been around forever, they own multiple I think they on
- 12:38Speaker 2: f one team as well, Like they're kind of all
- 12:40Speaker 2: over there. Yeah, they're all over the racing world. And
- 12:42Speaker 2: a guy like Michael Jordan comes in starts is there
- 12:45Speaker 2: like a level of like, hey boys, we got to
- 12:48Speaker 2: handle business here. They they're just jumping into the game.
- 12:51Speaker 2: We are the game.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:52Speaker 5: I mean it's healthy though, Like you have your teams
- 12:56Speaker 5: that have been around for a long time like Team Penske, Hendrick,
- 12:59Speaker 5: Joe Gibb and like you know, newer teams coming in
- 13:02Speaker 5: like twenty three eleven, Expire track House, Like it's it's
- 13:07Speaker 5: good because you need new owners sports growing the sport.
- 13:12Speaker 5: It's showing people that are interested in the sport and
- 13:15Speaker 5: they want to come in and start this whole, massive,
- 13:17Speaker 5: multi million dollar industry, you know.
- 13:19Speaker 4: Team.
- 13:20Speaker 5: So no, there's no like, oh, these new guys coming in,
- 13:24Speaker 5: we gotta, you know, make sure we stand on our ground,
- 13:26Speaker 5: like we know that everyone's gonna be tough, So.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Not a little no rookie hazing type of situations take
- 13:31Speaker 2: place now Like when I was a rookie, they shaved
- 13:33Speaker 2: my head, they covered me a mustard and catch up.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I had code Reddit a couple of times.
- 13:36Speaker 4: You guys don't really know.
- 13:37Speaker 2: You guys don't do stuff like that.
- 13:38Speaker 4: I haven't done that.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Maybe we should start to implement I guess, so a
- 13:41Speaker 2: little bit of hazing and I guess so yeah.
- 13:44Speaker 5: Maybe the rookie drivers sometimes go through it, but not
- 13:46Speaker 5: like rookie teams.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, rookie drivers most likely. Yeah, but now I
- 13:50Speaker 4: write so soft nowadays.
- 13:51Speaker 2: How was it for you guys when you were rookies.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Was there like any initiation type of things that had
- 13:55Speaker 2: to happen?
- 13:59Speaker 1: Not?
- 13:59Speaker 5: It was more of like like a on track yeah,
- 14:02Speaker 5: respect level of vets, you know, kind of the same thing.
- 14:05Speaker 5: I'm guessing and not heard yeah, you know, like I
- 14:11Speaker 5: don't know, not being don't want to overstep, and then
- 14:13Speaker 5: you get a bad rep like oh, this hot hot
- 14:15Speaker 5: shit thinks he's you know, kind of come in here
- 14:18Speaker 5: and do our jobs better than us, Like it's I was.
- 14:22Speaker 5: You kind of give a lot when you come in
- 14:24Speaker 5: and then you try to just gain the respect at
- 14:26Speaker 5: everybody when.
- 14:27Speaker 2: You when you're like a young gun coming up in
- 14:30Speaker 2: the ranks. Though, what is like the line that you
- 14:33Speaker 2: could explain to somebody that doesn't know a whole lot
- 14:34Speaker 2: about Nascar of like when to go for something or
- 14:37Speaker 2: when to kind of like bend the knee and let
- 14:38Speaker 2: the let the vet have the lane or the track
- 14:41Speaker 2: or whatever it is. Is there like a I guess
- 14:44Speaker 2: an unspoken rule that takes place in Nascar with how
- 14:47Speaker 2: to kind of when you're going through, you know, five
- 14:49Speaker 2: six hundred laps and you know there's a long day
- 14:51Speaker 2: thing and you're in lap twenty and this vet's coming
- 14:54Speaker 2: up on you, like is there like all right, we'll
- 14:55Speaker 2: give him this for now, but we'll come back later.
- 14:59Speaker 5: I wouldn't say yeah, yeah, that's perfect. Yeah, I don't
- 15:05Speaker 5: well this is so I would never.
- 15:07Speaker 4: This is this is a kid that doesn't care what
- 15:11Speaker 4: the writ.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll be honest, boy. It's like I'm kind of
- 15:15Speaker 2: I'm on host of Bar right now. Why I wore
- 15:18Speaker 2: seventy seven? He wore seventy seven And as the beating
- 15:20Speaker 2: of the show started, I fall in lovees Okay, yeah,
- 15:22Speaker 2: I saw I saw one YouTube video there's a guy
- 15:24Speaker 2: with the my like this motherfucker, what's he doing? I'm like, okay,
- 15:27Speaker 2: I gotta like this guy. Get a fucking a little
- 15:29Speaker 2: bit of a shit stir.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think as a rookie like you'd ever
- 15:32Speaker 5: give anything, but you might just give like a little
- 15:34Speaker 5: bit more room to the bet, you know, show a
- 15:36Speaker 5: little respect like you'd never be like, oh yeah, go ahead,
- 15:39Speaker 5: Yeah you won a little bit of like a respect
- 15:41Speaker 5: level thing.
- 15:42Speaker 1: And this is a cat that doesn't have no he
- 15:45Speaker 1: just doesn't not really care.
- 15:46Speaker 4: It's just how it is. I mean, it's just how
- 15:48Speaker 4: he approached things. Yeap doesn't care what it is is.
- 15:51Speaker 2: His attitude off the track as well with hst of Bar,
- 15:53Speaker 2: I see like, I don't care what you think type
- 15:54Speaker 2: of guy or see a little more nice then you
- 15:56Speaker 2: on the track and you're like, well what happened to
- 15:57Speaker 2: the nice conversation we had right before the race started.
- 16:00Speaker 4: It's kind of just a goober. Yeah, not really, like
- 16:04Speaker 4: I mean, he's probably a nice kid, but he's just
- 16:06Speaker 4: kind of like, uh, he's a super He doesn't interact
- 16:09Speaker 4: with any of the drivers, like he's just to himself.
- 16:11Speaker 4: All he does is I racing and yeah and goes
- 16:14Speaker 4: goes and races on the weekends.
- 16:15Speaker 5: Like they we're old now. I mean, these kids are
- 16:17Speaker 5: like ten years younger than I know. We're like to
- 16:19Speaker 5: fucking crust the old guys.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Like you guys are Yeah, you guys are back in
- 16:25Speaker 2: my day type of guys. This kid coming to he
- 16:27Speaker 2: just got off his Pimph Matt in his red light.
- 16:29Speaker 2: He's just ready to go. This guy's all about biohacking.
- 16:33Speaker 2: I mean, look at this kid's pull pull that photo
- 16:36Speaker 2: back up. That kid. Yeah yeah, yeah, you tell me
- 16:39Speaker 2: that tell me to get there? Who Yeah, Okay, let's
- 16:47Speaker 2: just play a game. Nobody watches the show. It's brand new.
- 16:49Speaker 2: If you had to get in the ring with somebody
- 16:52Speaker 2: in NASCAR, would this be your first choice?
- 16:56Speaker 1: Uh?
- 16:57Speaker 4: I mean he's got height, so I don't know if
- 17:00Speaker 4: he knows how to use it.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Yeah, but you get hey, you know what, you have
- 17:03Speaker 2: that little bit of salt on that beard, you know
- 17:05Speaker 2: that little bit of dat. Yeah, a little bit of
- 17:09Speaker 2: a little versatility taking place.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a totally totally living Jesus Christ, totally different
- 17:14Speaker 4: looking kid.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Now is there like, uh, but but do
- 17:19Speaker 1: you have any rivalries or beefs out there?
- 17:21Speaker 2: Sounds like it's this.
- 17:22Speaker 4: Kid depends on the week. We had a little bit.
- 17:24Speaker 1: It does feel like that it has had a.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Tiff a little a couple of weeks ago, a little
- 17:27Speaker 4: dust up. Yeah, but it was it was settled. He
- 17:32Speaker 4: didn't do anything wrong. I was just I just lost
- 17:33Speaker 4: my damn mind for running so bad. I would say. No,
- 17:39Speaker 4: it kind of goes week by week.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Yeah, because when Ryan came on a couple of years ago,
- 17:44Speaker 1: back in twenty twenty three, you didn't really have like
- 17:45Speaker 1: a B four rivalry, and you kind of just alluded
- 17:48Speaker 1: to Chase and Bubba, like what is your guys is like,
- 17:52Speaker 1: you guys coming into the sport kind of together around
- 17:54Speaker 1: what ten years old? What's it been like for you
- 17:56Speaker 1: guys side by side throughout the entire process.
- 18:00Speaker 5: I don't think we would have thought twenty plus years ago,
- 18:03Speaker 5: wou'd be where we're at. We're just kind of damn
- 18:05Speaker 5: sure to me having fun and you know, it didn't
- 18:08Speaker 5: really doesn't really get serious until like you're a teenager,
- 18:11Speaker 5: you know, I think when you're ten years old or
- 18:13Speaker 5: something like that, it's just something fun to do with
- 18:15Speaker 5: your friends and goofing off half the time. And then yeah,
- 18:19Speaker 5: I just we just, honestly, us three got really lucky
- 18:21Speaker 5: that our career pass kind of just lined up and
- 18:23Speaker 5: we got opportunities and we're able to you know, do
- 18:27Speaker 5: well on those opportunities we were given and wind up
- 18:29Speaker 5: where we are now. It's honestly, it's couldn't script it
- 18:32Speaker 5: any better. Yeah, we're all pretty fucking fortunate.
- 18:35Speaker 1: When did you guys feel like it got competitive with
- 18:37Speaker 1: you two, because.
- 18:39Speaker 4: You're obviously both for a while, it's always been competitive, Yeah,
- 18:43Speaker 4: like when we ran back when we were twelve years old. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:45Speaker 4: when we ran you know, ben Lero's and legend cars.
- 18:51Speaker 4: When we got to the trucks though, in twenty thirteen
- 18:53Speaker 4: and fourteen, that's when that's when it picked up, because
- 18:57Speaker 4: you know, that was your buddy in another truck and
- 18:59Speaker 4: you all were racing for twenty two races out of
- 19:01Speaker 4: the year, like you wanted to beat each other, and
- 19:04Speaker 4: we had a lot of races together that were tough.
- 19:06Speaker 4: I remember, uh, Kentucky twenty thirteen. It was my first
- 19:11Speaker 4: time I I wrecked him and I was trying to
- 19:13Speaker 4: pass him and drove into the cornerway too fast and
- 19:16Speaker 4: spun out. And you remember that that was Kentucky. Yeah,
- 19:19Speaker 4: it's Kentucky in the turn three. Yeah. White Michigan.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Oh yeah, a couple of what happened happened in Michigan.
- 19:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I didn't really. My my radios went down. Yeah,
- 19:34Speaker 4: that's what legitimate radios went down, and I just turned
- 19:37Speaker 4: left because I was focus on the guy in front
- 19:39Speaker 4: of me. He was underneath me. I didn't know it,
- 19:40Speaker 4: and so I was like, I'm going to pass this
- 19:42Speaker 4: guy and shot him to the inside the wall lap
- 19:44Speaker 4: one lapt half lap half Yeah, and he he was there.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:48Speaker 4: We had no comms.
- 19:50Speaker 5: Cost me the championship that year, No, no, I mean,
- 19:57Speaker 5: if you do the math, take it back on it.
- 19:59Speaker 4: Yeah. I had the championship until I blew up in Texas. Yeah.
- 20:03Speaker 4: I didn't cause that.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Something of horseshoes at handgerd Ad situation. However, Yeah, if
- 20:08Speaker 2: you don't get run in that first lap, you're thinking,
- 20:10Speaker 2: I'm taking home the cake here.
- 20:11Speaker 4: This is this is like a race number twelve years later.
- 20:15Speaker 2: How many races are we talking to the truck Series.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Twenty at that point? Twenty two, twenty two? Okay, okay,
- 20:21Speaker 4: no shot.
- 20:22Speaker 2: I mean that's quarter of the way, that's a quarter
- 20:25Speaker 2: the way you put in a good spot, right, Yeah.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Yeah, we have had some run ins, but most of them, really,
- 20:30Speaker 5: all of them are just accidental. Sit doesn't matter if
- 20:34Speaker 5: your friends or worst enemies, you're going to like have
- 20:36Speaker 5: run ins with each other.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Yes, what it is you guys?
- 20:38Speaker 2: So you right? You said accidental Bubba, You said Tom's
- 20:42Speaker 2: went out first lap, didn't know he was there? Has
- 20:45Speaker 2: it ever been? Have you ever intentionally got your boy?
- 20:48Speaker 4: No? No, intentionally No, I don't think so.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Do you know for do you know when someone intentionally
- 20:59Speaker 2: tried to get you?
- 21:02Speaker 4: Yeah? I mean I seen it this weekend. I was
- 21:10Speaker 4: damaged and off the off the pace and the seven.
- 21:14Speaker 4: Soerez who won like just ran a J like like
- 21:19Speaker 4: a dickhead, and AJ drove it wide open into one
- 21:23Speaker 4: so fucking far he bottomed out and went all the
- 21:26Speaker 4: way to the wall, like he missed. He missed, so
- 21:28Speaker 4: you see like his move was intentional.
- 21:30Speaker 2: He was trying to get the guy. He was trying to.
- 21:33Speaker 4: Yes, and it didn't. I was like, I thought about
- 21:36Speaker 4: that yesterday. I was like, man, if he would have
- 21:37Speaker 4: wiped him out because he was going to like you
- 21:39Speaker 4: could see he was seeing red and he went in
- 21:42Speaker 4: that corner and it was like, I'm wrecking you or
- 21:44Speaker 4: I'm wrecking myself. And he damned hear almost wrecked himself.
- 21:47Speaker 4: It was funny.
- 21:48Speaker 2: I was just laughing, Dude, that is crazy because we
- 21:50Speaker 2: so we drove the pace car a couple of weeks ago.
- 21:53Speaker 2: We were flying flying about three in Meshville, wod it
- 21:58Speaker 2: up for you guys, and we're while we're doing that,
- 22:01Speaker 2: we're hitting what one in that area?
- 22:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Hold on now, hold on, we were fucking scooting. I'm
- 22:10Speaker 2: just letting you know. Like people were like, is that
- 22:12Speaker 2: was that a bulleted flighting?
- 22:13Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 22:13Speaker 2: Anyway, we're ripping and we're getting close to the wall, Like,
- 22:16Speaker 2: at what point that's my wife calling me? At what
- 22:18Speaker 2: point are you comfortable with wrecking somebody or I'm gonna
- 22:23Speaker 2: like you're okay? We give a little nudge here, Give
- 22:25Speaker 2: a little nudge here, because I'm I'm on that and
- 22:27Speaker 2: I'm terrified even when I'm the driver. I was even
- 22:30Speaker 2: double terrified when I was a passenger. But you're sitting there, like,
- 22:32Speaker 2: at what point is it like, Oh, this is just
- 22:34Speaker 2: part of the game. I'm comfortable with kind of going
- 22:37Speaker 2: to the wall or getting on guys hitting a bumper.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Does that take a little time?
- 22:43Speaker 1: Uh?
- 22:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean if this is recent, I get wiped
- 22:47Speaker 4: out here and let's split a second, and it all
- 22:51Speaker 4: depends on it all depends on a three to two one.
- 22:55Speaker 4: Here she goes gone, that's that wasn't well?
- 23:00Speaker 1: It is Ross?
- 23:01Speaker 4: So is an intentional who knows it's Ross?
- 23:05Speaker 2: Ross is the one that got you?
- 23:06Speaker 1: Yeah, but.
- 23:08Speaker 4: It's all I keep saying situational, right, Like there's so
- 23:11Speaker 4: many different scenarios, like he if he pisses me off
- 23:14Speaker 4: in one corner and he gets a bad round the next,
- 23:17Speaker 4: then do I push him all the way down the
- 23:19Speaker 4: straight away to where his speed is so fast in
- 23:22Speaker 4: the corner that he might wreck Or do I wait
- 23:27Speaker 4: and time the run to where I hit him dead
- 23:28Speaker 4: and center of the corner and just knock him out
- 23:30Speaker 4: of the way, like there's so many different ways to
- 23:34Speaker 4: get revenge or get back even it and just plays
- 23:37Speaker 4: out differently. That can you can make it intentional if
- 23:40Speaker 4: that makes sense.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it kind of. It does kind of make sense.
- 23:42Speaker 1: How does explain Shake and Bake in football terms?
- 23:47Speaker 4: That's the worst fucking movie ever?
- 23:51Speaker 2: Okay on this show, I'm racing.
- 23:54Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just a all right, let's see what would be.
- 24:00Speaker 2: All on before you talk about it. I want to
- 24:02Speaker 2: know why you hate this movie.
- 24:03Speaker 4: So it's just a mockery of the sport.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Oh, come on, is it you really think so? No?
- 24:07Speaker 4: One fucking shakes and banks?
- 24:08Speaker 2: Dog, it's because it's because the two guys kissing at
- 24:10Speaker 2: the end. That was enough for you to turn the
- 24:15Speaker 2: TV off.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I'm going to.
- 24:21Speaker 2: See.
- 24:21Speaker 4: I can't even comment nowadays.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Yeah, we're joking around around.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Put in elevator music for the next second, exactly exactly.
- 24:32Speaker 4: It's just a mockery. But I'm trying to think of
- 24:34Speaker 4: a mockery of football, and there's.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Not one, so you would never So it's it's not
- 24:41Speaker 1: It doesn't at all happen to where you like you
- 24:43Speaker 1: drift your teammates so you can catch speed and pass
- 24:45Speaker 1: somebody up in front of you.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Using a sling shot that gets engaged. Ever that pisces
- 24:51Speaker 2: you off. Did you ever think about trying it though?
- 24:53Speaker 2: Did you have ever tried it?
- 24:55Speaker 4: Of course?
- 24:58Speaker 2: Of course I want you Ryan, do you do you
- 25:01Speaker 2: share the same sentiment about teleaday nights.
- 25:02Speaker 5: You also don't really mind it, To be honest with you,
- 25:05Speaker 5: I thought it was a funny movie.
- 25:08Speaker 4: I thought it was. I don't mind it at all.
- 25:10Speaker 1: So it's like you and your teammates in second, third
- 25:13Speaker 1: place and you got the front runner out there to
- 25:16Speaker 1: where you're trying to win this race for the squad.
- 25:19Speaker 1: There would just never be a scenario to where you go,
- 25:21Speaker 1: you go shak and bake and let let third place
- 25:24Speaker 1: drift up to get the team a championship, but get
- 25:26Speaker 1: the team a win for that race.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Play racing. Yeah, maybe.
- 25:33Speaker 5: A similar version of us shaking and baking possibly, But
- 25:37Speaker 5: it's not like I'm talking to Legano on the radio
- 25:40Speaker 5: and be like, hey, Bud, we don't do that. Like
- 25:47Speaker 5: here's no, I can't go dial up Bubba and be
- 25:50Speaker 5: like shaking, bake buddy. Let's like, no.
- 25:53Speaker 4: That's not happening. People think that happens, but I know
- 25:55Speaker 4: what you're gonna say, call it. Hey, what are you
- 25:57Speaker 4: gonna say?
- 25:59Speaker 2: You know, you know right, I mean it might be
- 26:02Speaker 2: an opportunity to try it.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Yeah, you know.
- 26:04Speaker 2: It's out there. They kind of have the playbook for you.
- 26:07Speaker 5: I mean, drafting happens. I feel like they just kind
- 26:09Speaker 5: of put a shake and bake term on it and
- 26:11Speaker 5: they went more into it than what it actually is. Yea,
- 26:14Speaker 5: but I like the movie. I get a chuckle out
- 26:17Speaker 5: of it. I definitely think it pinned us all is
- 26:19Speaker 5: dumb rednecks, which which some of us might be.
- 26:22Speaker 4: But it didn't really bother me. I mean, is what
- 26:26Speaker 4: it is?
- 26:27Speaker 1: Is there a race, like on the schedule of all
- 26:29Speaker 1: your races, which one do you look at? You like, Ah,
- 26:31Speaker 1: this race sucks hm.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Hm. Texas used to be Richmond for me.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Texas Texas.
- 26:40Speaker 1: We are Texas and Richmond, like Coca Cola six hundred
- 26:43Speaker 1: being the longest one is like, oh this one is.
- 26:45Speaker 5: No, that's a cool way too. Yeah, that's a super
- 26:48Speaker 5: cool race. Cool weekend, you know, like Memorial Day weekend
- 26:50Speaker 5: is obviously special. Winning that race is a super huge accomplishment,
- 26:55Speaker 5: Like that's one of our most prestigious races.
- 26:58Speaker 4: Races.
- 26:58Speaker 5: Yeah, Crown Jewels. So yeah, even though it's long, I mean,
- 27:03Speaker 5: you know what you're getting into. And but yeah, Texas
- 27:06Speaker 5: is uh.
- 27:06Speaker 2: When you guys look at these like, I guess, like,
- 27:09Speaker 2: how do you evaluate your strengths and weaknesses? Like I'm
- 27:12Speaker 2: talking to Mitchie about this, Bubba, He's Mitch's telling me like,
- 27:15Speaker 2: you're a great drafter, You're great in the long tracks,
- 27:18Speaker 2: Like when did you know that that was a strength
- 27:20Speaker 2: of your racing and were some things that we could
- 27:22Speaker 2: probably get a little bit better.
- 27:23Speaker 4: Uh man. I honestly watching Blaney and Logano, like the
- 27:27Speaker 4: Penske cars, you know, racing against them, then having the
- 27:31Speaker 4: meetings on Mondays talking about how how can we beat
- 27:34Speaker 4: the Penskes. You know, I took it, you know, watching
- 27:38Speaker 4: a lot of film and watching their natural instincts and
- 27:42Speaker 4: started making the more confident moves and it worked out.
- 27:45Speaker 4: And that's kind of goes back to we talked about
- 27:48Speaker 4: like the rookies versus the vets. When you have the
- 27:52Speaker 4: yellow we don't do the yellow stripe any more, which sucks,
- 27:54Speaker 4: but when you have the rookie stripe on the back
- 27:56Speaker 4: of your car, like that's like a sign, Like he's
- 27:59Speaker 4: a rookie, We're not going to work with them, no
- 28:01Speaker 4: matter how fast your car is. So I had a
- 28:03Speaker 4: lot of instances like that when I was a rookie
- 28:07Speaker 4: and our cars were pretty fast, and you would get
- 28:10Speaker 4: no help, Like they'd all be following you in a line,
- 28:12Speaker 4: and then you would go to like pass the slower car,
- 28:14Speaker 4: and they would go with the slower car, and it's like,
- 28:16Speaker 4: what the fuck are we doing? And so it took
- 28:19Speaker 4: a lot of time to get help on the speedways.
- 28:22Speaker 4: And that's what the name of the game nowadays is
- 28:24Speaker 4: is just who's the help behind you? Help and generate
- 28:27Speaker 4: those runs. And so when you continue to show consistent
- 28:31Speaker 4: speed and maneuverability and make the right choices, your resume
- 28:36Speaker 4: gets better and your respect level kind of goes higher
- 28:40Speaker 4: and you and it allows you to perform better.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Got you.
- 28:44Speaker 4: So it takes it takes a lot of races, a
- 28:45Speaker 4: lot of.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Time to get that. You mentioned even watching film and
- 28:48Speaker 1: I'm sitting here, I'm like, oh do you guys these
- 28:49Speaker 1: guys will sit there and watch film, Like for people
- 28:52Speaker 1: like myself too, it's like you guys just driving circles
- 28:55Speaker 1: fastest car decent drivers probably gonna win you could break
- 28:58Speaker 1: down what goes into the stre and the execution and
- 29:01Speaker 1: the pressure of like a game day, race day, Like
- 29:07Speaker 1: do that for the fans who are tuning in where
- 29:09Speaker 1: even I'm sitting here and I'm like, yeah, hearing about
- 29:11Speaker 1: you just watching film, or the strategy that does go
- 29:14Speaker 1: into it is so fascinating interesting, Like if you could
- 29:17Speaker 1: just give us an inside look of what goes into.
- 29:20Speaker 5: It, well, I think it's it's like anything, like a
- 29:22Speaker 5: lot more goes into it than what you see at
- 29:24Speaker 5: face value, right Like basketball is like, oh, the guy's
- 29:27Speaker 5: gonna put the ball in the hoop, you know, or
- 29:29Speaker 5: football is like if you're on defense, that guy's got
- 29:32Speaker 5: to tackle that guy with the ball. It's like, well,
- 29:33Speaker 5: there's a lot of planning and things that go around
- 29:35Speaker 5: that and that goes into it behind you.
- 29:38Speaker 4: Know, closed doors.
- 29:40Speaker 5: I'd say like a normal week for US is Mondays
- 29:44Speaker 5: are kind of a debrief for the previous week. Tuesday's
- 29:47Speaker 5: are a outlook on the next weekend. Wednesdays are kind
- 29:52Speaker 5: of more prep work, something's changed, you know, car set
- 29:55Speaker 5: up finalized, and then Thursdays are a day off, and
- 29:58Speaker 5: then Friday's usually a travel day for US.
- 30:02Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 30:02Speaker 5: I mean it's I think one of the most unique
- 30:05Speaker 5: things about our sport is all the engineering that goes
- 30:08Speaker 5: in behind these race cars. Like it's not just a
- 30:10Speaker 5: car you go. I think people hear stock car and
- 30:12Speaker 5: they're like, oh, I can go buy that off the lot,
- 30:15Speaker 5: you know, And it's the engineering that goes into building
- 30:19Speaker 5: these cars, what it takes to make them go fast,
- 30:21Speaker 5: finding tens of a second like that's that's really tough
- 30:24Speaker 5: to do. And as a driver, one of the most
- 30:27Speaker 5: amazing things about race car drivers across the board is
- 30:31Speaker 5: just their feel that they have for what they're driving.
- 30:35Speaker 5: Like you're going all You're guessing pretty much every time
- 30:38Speaker 5: you go into a corner, Like I'm running in the
- 30:40Speaker 5: corner two and miles an hour, and I'm guessing how
- 30:43Speaker 5: much grip I'm going to have when I get there,
- 30:45Speaker 5: And that's judging off of where do I lift, what
- 30:48Speaker 5: is my corner speed need to be, how do I
- 30:51Speaker 5: need to approach this corner? And it changes every lap
- 30:53Speaker 5: as the tires get older, that guesswork changes. You can't
- 30:56Speaker 5: just do the same thing every lap, so that's always
- 30:58Speaker 5: backing up and it's just really you're just feeling it
- 31:01Speaker 5: with your ass like what's under your seat, You're feeling
- 31:04Speaker 5: how the car is kind of reacting to what you're doing.
- 31:07Speaker 5: So that's the most amazing thing to me is just
- 31:09Speaker 5: the feel that drivers have with what they're controlling and
- 31:12Speaker 5: on the verge of control and like trying to find
- 31:15Speaker 5: the limit without overstepping. It is like the most fascinating
- 31:19Speaker 5: thing when I sit back and think of racing.
- 31:22Speaker 4: Is unbelievable. It's like having a i.
- 31:25Speaker 5: Mean a quarterback having a sixth sense of what he
- 31:26Speaker 5: thinks the defense is going to do, you know, and
- 31:28Speaker 5: seeing it happen before it happens. Like it's the same
- 31:31Speaker 5: thing with any sport, you know, and any athlete in
- 31:34Speaker 5: that sport. They have kind of a sense of what
- 31:36Speaker 5: they think is right and and they're doing a lot
- 31:39Speaker 5: of you know, thoughtful guesswork on what the outcome is
- 31:44Speaker 5: going to be.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Are there like there's clearly meetings taking place with like
- 31:48Speaker 2: the pit crew. Are you guys involved in those meetings
- 31:50Speaker 2: at all? Like understanding the ins and outs of this
- 31:52Speaker 2: car and its totality, like even down to the small
- 31:55Speaker 2: little details or is it like I'm more let the
- 31:58Speaker 2: let the professionals be professionals. I'm going to sit back
- 32:00Speaker 2: and have the guests work under my ass.
- 32:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean we you know, it's a there's probably
- 32:06Speaker 5: twenty people involved in my only just my twelve team,
- 32:10Speaker 5: engineer's crew chiefs, mechanics, things like that pit crew. The
- 32:14Speaker 5: best thing that I can do is give my opinion,
- 32:16Speaker 5: Like me and my crew chief will sit down, my
- 32:18Speaker 5: engineers will sit down during the week and Okay, how
- 32:20Speaker 5: are we at, you know, we coming to Nashville this weekend?
- 32:22Speaker 5: How are we at Nashville last year? What was the
- 32:24Speaker 5: car build like? Is there any changes? Is there different
- 32:27Speaker 5: tires that we're going to run? Is the aerodynamics different?
- 32:31Speaker 5: You know, how could we have been better? Let's build
- 32:34Speaker 5: the car around that? And I can just really the
- 32:36Speaker 5: best thing I can do is just give my feedback
- 32:37Speaker 5: on what I need to make the cargo faster and
- 32:40Speaker 5: then they kind of use their strengths and their skills
- 32:44Speaker 5: to figure out what do we need to build this
- 32:46Speaker 5: car like to go faster. So it's it's all kind
- 32:48Speaker 5: of everybody is contributing to this main goal. But I'm
- 32:53Speaker 5: not an engineer. I can't tell you what the CG
- 32:56Speaker 5: should be, like, what the shock should be like like,
- 33:00Speaker 5: those guys are professionals there. I can just tell you, like,
- 33:02Speaker 5: this is what I need with the car.
- 33:03Speaker 4: You can't.
- 33:04Speaker 2: No, I'm asking what.
- 33:05Speaker 4: Is center gravity?
- 33:07Speaker 1: Cent got you?
- 33:07Speaker 2: Yeah question?
- 33:09Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 33:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they put it on the monitor the CG.
- 33:11Speaker 2: I just want to make sure the boys in the back.
- 33:12Speaker 4: Now and the people listening.
- 33:14Speaker 2: And I was just gonna like, because a couple of
- 33:16Speaker 2: guys cgs and all that.
- 33:22Speaker 4: Cigarettes and guns.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Many yeah, a team of twelve of you. Clearly you
- 33:28Speaker 2: guys like the quarterback of your team. So when Christmas
- 33:30Speaker 2: rolls around, what kind of gifts are we getting our
- 33:32Speaker 2: pit crew?
- 33:34Speaker 4: Depends on how good the crew was that here, kind
- 33:36Speaker 4: of like.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Where you're where you're going, Do you guys get gifts?
- 33:39Speaker 1: Your boys?
- 33:40Speaker 2: Put your boys up.
- 33:41Speaker 4: So I like to do a big team dinner, go
- 33:46Speaker 4: to a nice steakhouse. This year we actually did. We
- 33:51Speaker 4: went to you guys play against Kirk Coleman.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Kirk Coleman, I don't think so.
- 33:58Speaker 4: Played for the Panthers back in the day. One of
- 34:01Speaker 4: the OG's super good dude lives in Charlotte. Went to
- 34:03Speaker 4: his house workers his party and they had a chef there,
- 34:06Speaker 4: and my wife and I were looking for ideas for
- 34:08Speaker 4: our team party and hire a chef. Hire that chef
- 34:13Speaker 4: came to the house, cooked for the whole team. So
- 34:15Speaker 4: just had them, you know, allow them to be themselves,
- 34:20Speaker 4: have a nice dinner out with everybody not talking about race,
- 34:23Speaker 4: and we're talking about the holidays, getting ready house, everybody
- 34:25Speaker 4: spending time together. So as far as gifts, you know,
- 34:28Speaker 4: we're not buying Rolex watches and stuff like that.
- 34:31Speaker 2: They'll make the gift of quality time.
- 34:32Speaker 4: Gift of quality time and making everybody feel like family.
- 34:35Speaker 4: That's one of the biggest things I stress when going
- 34:39Speaker 4: back to the inception of this team is making sure
- 34:41Speaker 4: we all never forget that we're from the same place.
- 34:45Speaker 4: You know, don't forget where you came from. Right, we
- 34:47Speaker 4: all started somewhere. Let's continue to act like family as
- 34:50Speaker 4: we progress through the ranks.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Now, Ryan, are you a gift guy? I do.
- 34:54Speaker 2: So.
- 34:55Speaker 5: We do a little holiday party for all my guys
- 34:57Speaker 5: and their kids, their wives and stuff like that. Past
- 35:00Speaker 5: year was around Christmas, and.
- 35:02Speaker 1: I give.
- 35:04Speaker 5: There was a we did like a raffle, but there
- 35:07Speaker 5: was enough presence that pretty much everybody got one. But
- 35:09Speaker 5: it was like it was almost like a what is
- 35:12Speaker 5: it like a white outfilf like or something like that
- 35:17Speaker 5: to where we kind of did that and where all
- 35:18Speaker 5: the kids were involved and stuff like that. So there
- 35:20Speaker 5: were gifts there, but it's not like here's a specific
- 35:23Speaker 5: gift and the same gift for everybody.
- 35:25Speaker 4: It's all just kind of fun.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Yeah, do the family guy, but also gifts. Yeah, kids
- 35:30Speaker 1: are involved.
- 35:31Speaker 5: Yep, yeah, but that's all is important, Like getting people
- 35:33Speaker 5: away from the racetrack and what they do because it's
- 35:36Speaker 5: a long year stresses people out, so like whenever you can,
- 35:39Speaker 5: and it's important to have the families involved with it
- 35:42Speaker 5: too because they have to deal with their husband or
- 35:44Speaker 5: wife being gone working on these things. Yeah for thirty
- 35:47Speaker 5: eight weeks out of the year, you know, so to
- 35:49Speaker 5: have their kids and you know, the significant others come
- 35:52Speaker 5: out and enjoy it and be part of the team,
- 35:55Speaker 5: you know for that night, that's that's just as important,
- 35:58Speaker 5: you know.
- 35:58Speaker 4: And to that point though, like right, we're we're looked
- 36:00Speaker 4: at by everybody. It doesn't matter if it's you know
- 36:05Speaker 4: or within our own family, Like my my nephews look
- 36:08Speaker 4: at me as the race car driver, right and and
- 36:13Speaker 4: I think the more that we can show that we're humans,
- 36:15Speaker 4: just like the rest allows everybody to be a little
- 36:18Speaker 4: bit more relatable to each other, and and that promotes
- 36:21Speaker 4: I think definitely promotes growth, but like the desire to
- 36:26Speaker 4: want to work for that driver, because if the families
- 36:29Speaker 4: get to see that, then it makes those long days,
- 36:32Speaker 4: like he mentioned a little bit easier because they're going
- 36:34Speaker 4: to battle with somebody that they actually care about, and
- 36:37Speaker 4: that feels like they care about them in return. Yeah,
- 36:40Speaker 4: what about you guys, what was the best gift you got?
- 36:43Speaker 2: I was a gift receiver. I was a gift giver. Yeah,
- 36:47Speaker 2: the quarterback you kind of do it?
- 36:49Speaker 4: Is that cheap cheap?
- 36:51Speaker 3: Oh?
- 36:51Speaker 2: Yeah, you do white elephant with the group.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Every position group does something different. Usually the expected to
- 37:00Speaker 1: give his gift.
- 37:01Speaker 2: But hold on, bubby desk question. Yes, I got the
- 37:06Speaker 2: bank out looks a certain way. Yeah, I wanted to
- 37:08Speaker 2: keep it that way, right like we want to have it.
- 37:11Speaker 2: I got a hold portfolio. I like to move around
- 37:13Speaker 2: and stuff like that. I've given gifts, but yeah, it
- 37:17Speaker 2: was always like right around like the start of December.
- 37:19Speaker 2: You're looking at your quarterback. But you know, that's a
- 37:21Speaker 2: nice watch you have on Bubba. I like that watch
- 37:24Speaker 2: a lot. It's very nice. Yeah, you kind of you know,
- 37:27Speaker 2: put a couple of things in there. We best gift
- 37:30Speaker 2: I got Marcus Marriotta gave us had a guy named
- 37:35Speaker 2: who was It was Luke CAZy, a guy from Lukez
- 37:37Speaker 2: came in and massed all custom boots one time. So
- 37:39Speaker 2: that was that was a nice little gift. That was awesome.
- 37:42Speaker 2: That same year, Russell Wilson gave all his offensive linements
- 37:46Speaker 2: stock in Amazon. So there's a bit of a balance.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Marcaus was on his first contract, so yeah, he was
- 37:52Speaker 2: on a spring for whatever, grateful for whatever. Right gifts
- 37:55Speaker 2: a gift, I'm gonna appreciate it, but it's stocking Amazon.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Sound kind of nice right now.
- 37:58Speaker 1: But when you look around and compare, I mean.
- 38:02Speaker 2: What is comparison, it's the thief of joy. So when
- 38:05Speaker 2: I see Joe Burrow give his boys katans, it's like
- 38:07Speaker 2: katanas katan us from Japan, It's.
- 38:11Speaker 4: Like, damn really yeah interesting.
- 38:14Speaker 2: What we need to think about really is like, I
- 38:16Speaker 2: know your boys are watching this right now and they're thinking, yeah,
- 38:18Speaker 2: it's dinner's great, making everybody feel but what kind of
- 38:22Speaker 2: gifts can we get?
- 38:23Speaker 5: This is coming from the guy he just said earlier.
- 38:25Speaker 5: I was a gift receiver.
- 38:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I never gave gifts. He's sitting here like, y'all cheep.
- 38:33Speaker 2: I'm out of the game. Listen. I can go back
- 38:35Speaker 2: and change a lot of things about my career. I'm
- 38:37Speaker 2: looking at you boys, still in it right. We could give.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Back position group wise though, like you would have like
- 38:41Speaker 1: white Elephant, and then place a minimum on it. Yeah,
- 38:44Speaker 1: a minimum.
- 38:47Speaker 4: So you want championship? What did you get for your team?
- 38:49Speaker 2: That's right, you did question, what do you for your team?
- 38:52Speaker 1: It's a good question, and he's chewing on that.
- 38:55Speaker 2: You didn't get anything for your boys.
- 38:57Speaker 5: I just did the normal holiday.
- 39:01Speaker 2: No, yeah, that's a big in the past.
- 39:06Speaker 1: You know. If I could do now.
- 39:10Speaker 5: Another one, another one, fucking katanas from Japan all over
- 39:15Speaker 5: the place.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Well, you gotta get you gotta. We had a brainstorm,
- 39:17Speaker 2: a little something that doesn't have to be the whole
- 39:19Speaker 2: thing of this, but we should, by the end of
- 39:20Speaker 2: the show figure out what you guys didn't get your boys. Yeah,
- 39:23Speaker 2: by the end of it all.
- 39:24Speaker 1: How do you feel like the pressure has changed for
- 39:26Speaker 1: you since you've won?
- 39:29Speaker 5: It's I mean, it's there for sure, but I do
- 39:32Speaker 5: feel like it's a big weight off, Like when you
- 39:35Speaker 5: do get one. But I have said, like, we ran
- 39:38Speaker 5: second the year after in twenty four, and I think
- 39:42Speaker 5: like my and my team's hunger to win the second
- 39:45Speaker 5: was greater than the first because like you get a
- 39:48Speaker 5: taste of the championship and like that feeling, and it's
- 39:52Speaker 5: like eating the forbidden fruit and it's like you want
- 39:54Speaker 5: another body of that thing, dude. So that was there
- 39:57Speaker 5: was a bummer to come so close in twenty four
- 39:59Speaker 5: from go back to back, but it definitely it makes
- 40:04Speaker 5: you more motivated, I think. But I do feel like
- 40:06Speaker 5: you're a little bit.
- 40:07Speaker 4: More relaxed, you know, just because it's it's nice to
- 40:09Speaker 4: achieve that.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Have you ever invited bub over to your house just
- 40:12Speaker 1: to show him the trophy?
- 40:13Speaker 4: No, I'm not at all.
- 40:22Speaker 2: No gifts. Where do you put a trophy like that?
- 40:25Speaker 2: Do you get to keep it or owner keep it?
- 40:26Speaker 2: Is there a replica?
- 40:27Speaker 5: It takes place the owner gets one, I get one,
- 40:30Speaker 5: and then there's a replica out there. They take two
- 40:32Speaker 5: events and stuff. But mine right now is actually in
- 40:34Speaker 5: my ker chief's office.
- 40:36Speaker 4: I gave him.
- 40:36Speaker 5: My dad made a big awesome stand for it, a
- 40:39Speaker 5: bunch of pictures of all the guys from that year,
- 40:42Speaker 5: So it's sitting in his office still, so I don't
- 40:44Speaker 5: know what if if I'm going to get it back,
- 40:46Speaker 5: but I don't really.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like a gift for now type of thing.
- 40:48Speaker 2: You can borrow this, Yeah.
- 40:49Speaker 5: Yeah, because they're part of it. And his office sits
- 40:52Speaker 5: like right where the car is kind of getting finished
- 40:57Speaker 5: up where all the guys can see it. They can
- 40:58Speaker 5: see into his office and that trophy, So I want
- 41:01Speaker 5: them to be able to share it too. I mean,
- 41:03Speaker 5: what am I going to do in my house? Those
- 41:05Speaker 5: guys were just as big a part of it as
- 41:07Speaker 5: I was, so they should be able to see that
- 41:09Speaker 5: every day, you know, and and be able to relivet
- 41:11Speaker 5: those memories.
- 41:12Speaker 4: That's his gift. He's allowing them to see.
- 41:18Speaker 2: Walk in here, show you what I have accomplished. Maybe
- 41:20Speaker 2: give yourself a little bit of motivation.
- 41:22Speaker 5: I can't wait to see what Bubba gets these guys
- 41:24Speaker 5: when he wins the championship.
- 41:25Speaker 2: You want to be yours, right, getting something nice like
- 41:32Speaker 2: jet hours Jet hours jet hours would be cool.
- 41:35Speaker 4: Watches don't make Yeah, we don't make NFL money to.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Win the races, right, You make the races. You make
- 41:43Speaker 2: the money than.
- 41:45Speaker 4: Races appreciate that.
- 41:52Speaker 2: How does it work with like your team and just
- 41:57Speaker 2: the rivalry that kind of takes place within a team,
- 41:59Speaker 2: like you're You're team This year was a Tyler reddick.
- 42:01Speaker 2: He won the first three races. Yeah, you're rocking the
- 42:03Speaker 2: twenty three car.
- 42:04Speaker 3: No.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Twenty three is kind of you know, Yeah, you're the
- 42:07Speaker 2: Golden Goose. Is there a level of like competition internally
- 42:11Speaker 2: that's taking place when you're seeing him hoist those big
- 42:13Speaker 2: as trophies that he probably gets his boys gifts for win.
- 42:17Speaker 4: Yeah, no doubt. I think it's uh, you know, there's
- 42:20Speaker 4: always that competitive nature, like that's what drives me. You know,
- 42:25Speaker 4: people always ask like how do you continue to show up?
- 42:27Speaker 4: It's competing, right, you know, we could make a competition
- 42:30Speaker 4: out of anything. That's what that's the competitors do. And
- 42:34Speaker 4: so when you see your teammates win, there's a there there.
- 42:37Speaker 4: You can allow a bit of jealousy to set in,
- 42:39Speaker 4: but also you can allow more motivation than anything because
- 42:42Speaker 4: you see that we have the same equipment. We have
- 42:45Speaker 4: basically we go through the same meetings, the same processes,
- 42:48Speaker 4: and he's able to capitalize.
- 42:49Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 42:50Speaker 4: And you look at the wise and you try to
- 42:52Speaker 4: minimize those wise and you go out and get it.
- 42:54Speaker 4: And so yeah, you know he's he's been kicking all
- 42:58Speaker 4: of our asses this year. Every race he's top five,
- 43:02Speaker 4: and you you you think somebody is going to cut
- 43:05Speaker 4: down the points gap, but nope, he's right there capitalizing
- 43:08Speaker 4: on it. So when you're when you're on, you're on right,
- 43:11Speaker 4: and you can't hate it. You gotta respect it.
- 43:14Speaker 2: You brought up like he's top five, he's kicking How
- 43:16Speaker 2: do the how do the hell do these points work
- 43:19Speaker 2: in this game? Because I saw who's the guy that
- 43:20Speaker 2: won the co cole last week? What was newrez? He
- 43:23Speaker 2: got like fifty eight points, but then somebody else, like
- 43:26Speaker 2: I got in fifth place, got sixty points. How do
- 43:28Speaker 2: the points work in NASCAR?
- 43:30Speaker 1: You got it?
- 43:32Speaker 2: I got shot.
- 43:35Speaker 1: So we race.
- 43:35Speaker 4: We got the Cooke six hundred is is the only
- 43:39Speaker 4: race with four stages. Every other race is three stages.
- 43:42Speaker 4: Um the first two stages. Let's let's take the coxx
- 43:47Speaker 4: hunder out the first two stages, the top ten get
- 43:50Speaker 4: ten points, ten for first all the way down to one.
- 43:53Speaker 4: They got a little they had a little graph pulled
- 43:55Speaker 4: up out of it.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, graphics are great I'm loving Bubba's analysis.
- 43:59Speaker 4: And so so just imagine an extra stage for the
- 44:02Speaker 4: Coke six hundred. Uh So, Sorez may have not finished
- 44:06Speaker 4: in the top ten one of those stages, as I
- 44:08Speaker 4: think Denny. Denny may have been top ten all three
- 44:12Speaker 4: stages he was. He was like top three. Yeah, and
- 44:15Speaker 4: so he got let's just call it, uh first, he
- 44:18Speaker 4: got ten points on one of them, nine points on
- 44:20Speaker 4: the second one, and eight points on the next. Right,
- 44:22Speaker 4: whatever that math is, what twenty seven points versus Suarez got.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Maybe he got zero points in one of them, two
- 44:29Speaker 4: points in the next, but he got the race win.
- 44:32Speaker 4: There's so at the end of the race, there's the points.
- 44:35Speaker 4: I don't know what the points breakdown is for that,
- 44:36Speaker 4: Like what's the start at thirty fifty five thirty five
- 44:41Speaker 4: and that goes down by one. So that's just that's
- 44:43Speaker 4: just if you into the race with no stages, boom,
- 44:46Speaker 4: that's the points that you get. Now you throw in
- 44:48Speaker 4: the stage points on top of on top of those
- 44:51Speaker 4: points right there. Okay, that makes sense, it.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Does little bit.
- 44:54Speaker 2: So something I'm gonna rewatch this and go back up
- 44:58Speaker 2: to that, go back up.
- 44:59Speaker 4: So Dinny finished second, right, So he got thirty five
- 45:01Speaker 4: points plus all of his stage points, so that's why
- 45:05Speaker 4: he ended up with more as to where Suarez only
- 45:08Speaker 4: got fifty five points.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Got you okay, check a little bit. That checks a
- 45:12Speaker 2: little bit.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Like how do you like to make sure the chase
- 45:16Speaker 1: got the chase? Do you like how it's went to
- 45:19Speaker 1: that format with just a ten race, like a ten
- 45:22Speaker 1: race series with like the top sixteen point scores.
- 45:25Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a little bit different than what we, you know,
- 45:27Speaker 5: have had for the last ten years or so. But
- 45:29Speaker 5: you know, this format, the chase format is pretty similar
- 45:32Speaker 5: to what we had, you know, over a decade ago,
- 45:34Speaker 5: and to where you know, if you pull up that
- 45:37Speaker 5: chase grid a third row down on the left, that's
- 45:42Speaker 5: how it used to be. So you'd have sixteen guys
- 45:44Speaker 5: run three races, cut four, run three race, cut for
- 45:47Speaker 5: cut four and then you hah the champ four and
- 45:49Speaker 5: then it was like a one race, winner take all
- 45:51Speaker 5: type thing. And we're now it's just sixteen guys and
- 45:54Speaker 5: then it's your average points for ten weeks. You know,
- 45:58Speaker 5: whoever's leading the point at the end of ten week.
- 46:00Speaker 5: So it rewards consistency, you know, more than you know
- 46:04Speaker 5: because with this format too, Like if you audit, if
- 46:06Speaker 5: you won, you were automatically into the next round. Yeah,
- 46:09Speaker 5: so you could run last last and win a race
- 46:12Speaker 5: and you move into the next round where you wouldn't
- 46:14Speaker 5: have pointed your way in because you weren't running very good.
- 46:17Speaker 5: Maybe you got lucky of winning a race or something.
- 46:19Speaker 4: So I like what they have now.
- 46:20Speaker 5: It rewards consistency, and I think you're gonna see like
- 46:23Speaker 5: a I hate to say this word more deserving, but
- 46:27Speaker 5: like the guy who can put ten the best ten
- 46:30Speaker 5: weeks together as opposed to the best maybe four weeks
- 46:32Speaker 5: together is gonna be the champ, Which I think that's
- 46:35Speaker 5: that's the way it should be.
- 46:36Speaker 4: Yeah, the guys who don't get their guys' gifts don't
- 46:38Speaker 4: deserve to be champions. I don't I agree with that.
- 46:40Speaker 2: Would you say you don't get their guys gifts, deserve
- 46:42Speaker 2: to have their championship revoked, get Reggie bushed? Or would
- 46:46Speaker 2: you say this this is a brainstorm's no bad ideas, right,
- 46:51Speaker 2: you're mad at that, We're just gonna bubble.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Would you say he's got a asterisk next to his
- 46:57Speaker 1: championship due to it being in the old format.
- 46:59Speaker 4: Ryan, I know the way he won that year was
- 47:06Speaker 4: pretty damn incredible. Uh, you went what almost a year winless?
- 47:10Speaker 4: When you wanted Charlotte, I didn't want to. Yeah, so
- 47:13Speaker 4: when we wanted Charlotte. Uh like that that kind of
- 47:18Speaker 4: lit the fire under his ass. And you won three
- 47:21Speaker 4: races a year, four, three, three, And then he went
- 47:25Speaker 4: to you were back against the wall at Martinsville, right,
- 47:29Speaker 4: that was in twenty.
- 47:30Speaker 5: Four, twenty three. We were oh, we were good at Martinsville,
- 47:33Speaker 5: but we ended up winning the race anyway.
- 47:35Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, I thought you needed to win that race
- 47:37Speaker 4: and you got twenty four I did Okay. No, I
- 47:41Speaker 4: think the way he went about it may have not
- 47:43Speaker 4: had the most consistent year, Like we talked about consistency,
- 47:46Speaker 4: but when it was time to turn the wick on
- 47:48Speaker 4: and go out and get it, he did it. So yeah,
- 47:51Speaker 4: they're trying nice to hear, just not say trying times
- 47:56Speaker 4: a deserving champion. That's kind of fuck.
- 48:01Speaker 2: Trying to do the right journals here three years ago
- 48:03Speaker 2: and you guys are like congrats.
- 48:06Speaker 4: And the.
- 48:08Speaker 2: Like, it's a timing comfortable, that's all.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Yeah, we're in the we're in the ball busting face
- 48:17Speaker 1: yea shattered. Yeah, do you guys ever think about not
- 48:24Speaker 1: to bring it back to uh telegon. I hate to
- 48:27Speaker 1: do it. I hate to do it. But also you
- 48:29Speaker 1: ever think about if you win a race and you're
- 48:31Speaker 1: doing an interview, just like a just one big hairy
- 48:33Speaker 1: winning machine.
- 48:35Speaker 2: I don't know what to do with for sure. He's
- 48:37Speaker 2: pissed off even asked that question.
- 48:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I like something that just gets the people.
- 48:42Speaker 1: It gets the people going.
- 48:43Speaker 4: That'd be more him than me. It's the big Harry Maine.
- 48:49Speaker 1: I wake up in the morning. I pissed area.
- 48:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean drivers have done it already. Drivers have
- 48:56Speaker 4: done and it's like, yeah, that wasn't funny. Miss the
- 49:00Speaker 4: Mark almost think he's played out. Yeah, you do something
- 49:03Speaker 4: when this movie came out when two thousand eight or
- 49:06Speaker 4: something eight.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Yeah, well, unfortunately you're pointing out this movie is timeless.
- 49:11Speaker 4: It is twenty year anniversary. Oh I bet you. We're
- 49:15Speaker 4: gonna do something. Should release it in theaters.
- 49:18Speaker 2: We all go together. They're gonna put it in theaters again. Yeah,
- 49:26Speaker 2: around the Christmas time, Bubba Wallace gets all his crew
- 49:31Speaker 2: to watch it.
- 49:32Speaker 4: Yeah, breaking Bubba Wallas is not there with his tam
- 49:35Speaker 4: No morale is going down.
- 49:39Speaker 5: Next month they're gonna release it and row we should.
- 49:42Speaker 1: We should.
- 49:43Speaker 2: It's gonna have a resurgence in all the post races. Yeah,
- 49:47Speaker 2: you gotta give them a shot, dude. Kind I was
- 49:50Speaker 2: kind of your way with Remember the Titans, and then
- 49:52Speaker 2: you just kind of forget and you go back and
- 49:53Speaker 2: you're like, oh my god.
- 49:54Speaker 1: Remember the Titans? Was that?
- 49:55Speaker 2: What are you talking about?
- 49:56Speaker 3: That was a great movie.
- 49:57Speaker 2: It's because I came out like in high school RPID
- 50:00Speaker 2: for high school, and then every varsity game where we
- 50:01Speaker 2: would get on the buses, they'd play it to the
- 50:04Speaker 2: point I was like, dude, fuck this movie. I'm sick
- 50:06Speaker 2: of this movie. And then I become older.
- 50:09Speaker 4: I go back and I watched making a mockery of
- 50:11Speaker 4: the game.
- 50:12Speaker 2: Guys, are we not in a safe space?
- 50:16Speaker 4: But it wasn't making a though like that was the
- 50:18Speaker 4: way they coached was motivating. It's a good story.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Taylor usually takes some time to come back.
- 50:23Speaker 2: I had the same problem with Fury. I had the
- 50:25Speaker 2: same problem with Feary. I came back to Fury. He
- 50:27Speaker 2: has watch Game of Thrones, get into a full breakdown
- 50:32Speaker 2: of Game of Thrones.
- 50:33Speaker 4: Like these guys hated each other, they didn't hate each other.
- 50:36Speaker 4: Well he did not like him. Yeah, they there was
- 50:40Speaker 4: a rivalry. And then you see this, he stepped down his.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Head coach and yeah, assistant Zel, I agree with that.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Can we not just say that that last play is
- 50:49Speaker 2: kind of bullshit? Like the quarterback blocks three guys, decletes
- 50:51Speaker 2: all three of them, And I'm arguing for something I
- 50:55Speaker 2: don't even agree with. So I'm gonna fall back.
- 50:58Speaker 4: I'm gonna fall back checks himself.
- 51:01Speaker 3: Anybody respond it gives for your guys, that's crazy, Well.
- 51:17Speaker 4: I'll do.
- 51:17Speaker 1: White Elephant.
- 51:22Speaker 2: Is a great movie.
- 51:23Speaker 4: What's your favorite football movie?
- 51:25Speaker 2: Varsity Blues?
- 51:26Speaker 4: Varsity Blues?
- 51:27Speaker 2: Fair football movie is Varsity Blues, which could be argued
- 51:30Speaker 2: as a mockery.
- 51:31Speaker 1: Either Remember the Titans or Friday Night Lights.
- 51:33Speaker 4: Friday eight Lights is probably about taking back Sunday when
- 51:36Speaker 4: the eyeball was laying on the field.
- 51:37Speaker 2: Can I be honest, I haven't seen it. I haven't
- 51:39Speaker 2: seen the full movie. I've seen that speech. Wait, taking
- 51:44Speaker 2: back Sunday is a band.
- 51:48Speaker 4: He was going.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Sunday because you kind of hit my email braking first,
- 51:56Speaker 2: hold on.
- 52:01Speaker 1: You'n't seen what's that? You haven't seen any given Sunday.
- 52:05Speaker 2: I don't think the replacements, replacements. I'll be the villain
- 52:11Speaker 2: of this episode. I don't give a fuck, dude. What
- 52:14Speaker 2: else do I not like that? You guys? Can I
- 52:16Speaker 2: love a turkey sandwich? I gotta hate for that last week?
- 52:18Speaker 2: That's my go to sandwich.
- 52:20Speaker 1: I don't.
- 52:21Speaker 2: I'm a big hot sauce guy on a turkey sandwich
- 52:23Speaker 2: that it's got a Is it a warm sandwich or
- 52:25Speaker 2: a cold sandwich?
- 52:26Speaker 4: It doesn't matter, it does to me.
- 52:28Speaker 2: It's got to be warm cold sandwich, hot sauce. I
- 52:31Speaker 2: don't know.
- 52:33Speaker 4: You bounce it out cold sandwich, hot sauce. Think about
- 52:36Speaker 4: its true, think about it.
- 52:37Speaker 2: It's like that Starbus commercial. Dude, it's a contradiction or
- 52:40Speaker 2: whatever it was.
- 52:42Speaker 1: You get a full menu of a sandwich. You know
- 52:43Speaker 1: you're in a deli. My go to is just not
- 52:46Speaker 1: a turkey sandwich. Someone of my boys are ordering turkey
- 52:48Speaker 1: sandwich and he's like, oh, this is just this. I'm
- 52:50Speaker 1: thinking he's doing it for the health benefits, Like turkey
- 52:52Speaker 1: is the best deli Tian Pierce.
- 52:54Speaker 5: So if you go to like a sandwich shop, not
- 52:57Speaker 5: like making him like at home with like.
- 52:59Speaker 2: You'll go go bread.
- 53:01Speaker 4: It's like turkey and cheese. See that's kind of messed up.
- 53:05Speaker 5: Hold on, I thought you were talking like I'm in
- 53:06Speaker 5: the house stuff.
- 53:08Speaker 1: Dude.
- 53:08Speaker 2: We put it in a couple of things on this episode.
- 53:10Speaker 2: Amazon stock. I didn't get Amazon stock. I got boots.
- 53:16Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 53:17Speaker 2: I was very happy to get those. I still have
- 53:18Speaker 2: those boots, thank you, Marcus. Okay, listen, if we're going
- 53:22Speaker 2: to Subway right it's sweet onion chicken karaokey and we're
- 53:25Speaker 2: not even talking anymore about it. That's the move you're
- 53:27Speaker 2: gonna make there. But if I'm just getting a sandwich,
- 53:29Speaker 2: im outa deli, turkey and cheese, well, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayonnaise, mustard, oil,
- 53:35Speaker 2: and vinegar, God forbid you give me a bag of
- 53:38Speaker 2: chips to put on that sandwiching. It's a great question,
- 53:43Speaker 2: and I don't know if we have enough time. Man,
- 53:47Speaker 2: saltan vinegar is in my brain right now. I'm a
- 53:49Speaker 2: big saltan vinia guy on a sandwich though, Buddy, Yeah,
- 53:52Speaker 2: I'm a baby. I'm like, I'm like a do you
- 53:54Speaker 2: ever go to a restaurant You're like, I like it,
- 53:56Speaker 2: but it's a little too rich in flavor for me.
- 53:58Speaker 4: Have you're Have you ever said, no, I thank them
- 54:00Speaker 4: for bringing it out and eat it exactly.
- 54:01Speaker 2: Okay. I'm a guy that likes I like, yeah, I
- 54:06Speaker 2: like overwhelming flavors. I like when it's like a little
- 54:08Speaker 2: too much. It's a little too much of X, Y
- 54:10Speaker 2: and Z. I'm a big I like.
- 54:11Speaker 4: I'm a sauce guy.
- 54:13Speaker 2: Like if we're looking at wings, I need my wings
- 54:16Speaker 2: to be drenched. They'd be drowning some sauea exactly. I'm
- 54:21Speaker 2: trying to get every bit of everything that being said.
- 54:24Speaker 2: Have you guys been a zips Okay, we don't have time.
- 54:29Speaker 2: Next time he has racing Arizona, go to Zips. Okay,
- 54:31Speaker 2: that's a I'm gonna tell you, go shoot me a
- 54:32Speaker 2: tex I'm gonna give it a perfect order. Have replacements.
- 54:37Speaker 2: I haven't seen Taking Back Sunday Live in Concert War Sunday,
- 54:43Speaker 2: so but I've seen this clip enough time to say
- 54:46Speaker 2: I've seen the movie.
- 54:48Speaker 1: It's great. It's a great speech.
- 54:49Speaker 2: It's great film.
- 54:50Speaker 1: It's a great speech.
- 54:50Speaker 2: It's a great film. Talladay and Night's rips.
- 54:52Speaker 1: What are we missing? Taking a quick break from the episode,
- 54:55Speaker 1: because we are presented by the fan duel sports book.

- 55:22Speaker 1: a favorite, maybe you're writing shotgun with a long shot.

- 56:08Speaker 1: form energy guy, form energy. We do the work. Now,
- 56:11Speaker 1: let's get back to this interview with Ryan Blaney and
- 56:14Speaker 1: Bubba Wallace. I would love to ask them. I actually
- 56:18Speaker 1: have a few where it would be up to you
- 56:21Speaker 1: guys to figure out the answer to these questions. Who
- 56:24Speaker 1: is the cooler kid growing up?
- 56:26Speaker 4: Oh, Bubba? For sure.
- 56:28Speaker 1: Bubba had the sauce, didn't he Yeah, I'll wear that hat.
- 56:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll wear it.
- 56:33Speaker 1: He's kind of cool. That's kind of a cool guy response.
- 56:36Speaker 1: Who's changed the most over the years?
- 56:39Speaker 2: For sure, You've changed the last three years, dude. Last
- 56:42Speaker 2: time we saw.
- 56:45Speaker 4: Something we talked about the mustache. Yeah, exactly what has
- 56:49Speaker 4: changed since he won that championship?
- 56:51Speaker 2: That dust?
- 56:52Speaker 4: It was always he has clean shaven penske is high
- 56:56Speaker 4: and tight like now he's just rocking facial hair.
- 56:59Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a beautiful.
- 57:01Speaker 2: Those genes look tighter too, am I Am I wrong
- 57:03Speaker 2: saying that.
- 57:04Speaker 4: Okay, try to say I'm getting fatter.
- 57:07Speaker 2: No, no, I think I don't think anybody's calling you fat.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Genes they form fitted kind of got me self conscious.
- 57:14Speaker 2: No, no, I would look tight.
- 57:16Speaker 4: This man's jeans are on his calves, but you look
- 57:18Speaker 4: at it run every day. I'm sorry.
- 57:24Speaker 1: Yeah, here, who's the better racer growing up?
- 57:30Speaker 4: Bubba?
- 57:31Speaker 1: No shot?
- 57:32Speaker 4: Growing up? Said that growing up, bub waxed my ass
- 57:41Speaker 4: every week. But I think I raced more than you.
- 57:44Speaker 1: So you had you had the experience factor, would it?
- 57:46Speaker 1: Would it kind of like internally piss you off? The
- 57:48Speaker 1: bubble just kept beating your ass growing up.
- 57:50Speaker 4: A little bit.
- 57:50Speaker 5: Yeah, we had still like we still had that competition
- 57:55Speaker 5: with ourselves for sure. No, yeah, Bubba won everything growing up,
- 57:58Speaker 5: like he was, like I peaked when I was.
- 58:02Speaker 2: Yeah, hell yeah yeah was there Is there a guy
- 58:04Speaker 2: in your guys' friend group growing up that you're like,
- 58:06Speaker 2: I can't believe he didn't make it. You don't have
- 58:09Speaker 2: to say his name.
- 58:09Speaker 5: Yeah, there was a lot of guys, man, a lot
- 58:11Speaker 5: of guys I grew up, I mean both of us
- 58:13Speaker 5: grew up racing. That's like that guy could make it,
- 58:16Speaker 5: like talented enough to do it. Just never got an opportunity,
- 58:22Speaker 5: you know, no matter what age it was. I mean,
- 58:24Speaker 5: if there was kids around our age, for sure thought
- 58:26Speaker 5: they had the potential to do it. When I got
- 58:30Speaker 5: running late models, when both of us got running late models,
- 58:32Speaker 5: like there was guys that were, you know, thirty forty
- 58:34Speaker 5: years old. It's like and they just ran late models
- 58:36Speaker 5: their whole life, like weekly shows. It's like, these guys
- 58:39Speaker 5: are unbelievable. I just can't believe they never got a
- 58:42Speaker 5: shot to to go cup racing or something like that.
- 58:45Speaker 5: So there's a lot of talent out there, I mean,
- 58:47Speaker 5: and some guys just don't get opportunities.
- 58:49Speaker 4: I think go to a feel good story to that
- 58:51Speaker 4: was like Lee Pulliam just got his first national start
- 58:55Speaker 4: uh In Martins Vielle racing for Dell Junior in the
- 58:58Speaker 4: O'Reilly series, right, and like he's I don't know how
- 59:03Speaker 4: old he is Lee Pulliam H p U L L
- 59:07Speaker 4: I A M. Yeah, like yeah, like once it's his
- 59:14Speaker 4: age eighty eight, eighty eighty eight, thirty eight, yeah, thirty eight,
- 59:19Speaker 4: and like he's been around for a long time, multiple
- 59:22Speaker 4: track champion, multiple series champion, I believe, and finally got
- 59:27Speaker 4: his big break because one just one race and you
- 59:30Speaker 4: could just see how much it meant to him to
- 59:32Speaker 4: have that, because that's something he dreamed of but he
- 59:34Speaker 4: never got the right opportunity.
- 59:37Speaker 2: How like, how is it you have to like a
- 59:38Speaker 2: scout come and find you you have to be seen sad?
- 59:40Speaker 2: You talking about all these as a talent getting a
- 59:42Speaker 2: big break. This guy's multiple champion in different areas, Like,
- 59:46Speaker 2: how does that process work?
- 59:48Speaker 1: Because he's racing too, It's like you're gonna catch wind
- 59:50Speaker 1: of Yeah, he's just waxing as so I don't I
- 59:54Speaker 1: don't really know, Like I mean, the the root of
- 59:58Speaker 1: it all is money.
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: A lot of the people now that that come up
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: through the ranks have enough money to fund their ride
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: in a truck series or in an a rally series
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: ride like they have millions of dollars worth it.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: The other side of it is, you know, this isn't
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: knocking Blenny, but his dad and his family being in racing,
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: so he has that that resume already kind of built in.
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: If he lives up to that, then there's opportunities there
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: for him, right, and he capitalized on that. I don't
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: know there was there's no scouts really hanging out at
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: racetracks like, oh, this is a guy, this is the
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: kid we want to So how.
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: Did like so with your story, like when you got
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: with Gibbs, yeah, way back in the day, Like how
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: did that process work?
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: So we were running, Yeah, we were running, were running
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: late models at the time two thousand and eight, and
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: two thousand and eight was our last. Next year, that
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: was it. It was two hundred and fifty thousand dollars
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: a year, and we had just enough money to cover that,
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: which is a lot of freaking money for Uh. I
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: don't know how what. I was thirteen fourteen year old
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: to go out and race right, and.
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: JG R.
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: Gibbs had a late model program that would run a
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: little bit, so you would kind of just see those conversations.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: And they also had like their own like diversity program
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: as well, and so diversity helped me out a lot.
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: But then people will instantly go to shit on that,
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: right because it's like, oh, he's only got the ride
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: because he's black. Not to get into this side of it.
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: But damn, I was just good enough to win fucking
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: races to earn all that shit, right, And that's what
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: people don't want to give you credit. For It wasn't
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: like I was running last in all these races and
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: I got the right.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: Like, oh you gotta have a blanket in there, right, No, I.
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: Was, I was winning. I was winning these races. I
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: was running up front each and every freaking week. And
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: it happened to hey, we have this opportunity for you.
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: And even when I joined on jj ARE, they were like,
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: we really don't have anything, but NASCAR has there on
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: drift diversity program. We went out, we won that competition,
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: earned our way into there, and then the first race
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: of the year, we go out and fucking win it.
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: So just because you're black doesn't mean you're gonna win everything.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: You gotta fucking put in the work and all that
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: stuff that leads up to it. And so there's a
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: lot of detractors out there and have at it. They can.
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: It's free freedom of speech. They can have their own opinion,
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: but there has to be a lot of hard work
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: and success to follow up with all that and that
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: they don't want to look at. And so when you
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: were out seventy six car right there, I remember that car. Yeah,
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: oh yeah, yeah. Thing was sex.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Yeah, when you were getting your uh, when you were
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: getting this break, you're having to pay two hundred and
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: fifty grand a year just a race. M Like you
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: and the fan come up with twifty.
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: Son.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: Yeah, he loves this sport. We think he could be
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: good at this sport.
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: It wasn't even that, it was it was you know,
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: we started out in go karts and we raced go cards,
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: got pretty good at it, and it was like, hey,
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: you want to move up to the next class. Yeah, sure,
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: and we kept moving up. It wasn't like we're gonna
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: go NASCAR racing one day. We're gonna invest everything. That's why.
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: Like I so you asked earlier. I forgot what the
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: question was, But like, twenty years ago, did you see
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: yourselves where we're at? Not me, because I didn't care
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: to be in NASCAR, and not in a negative way.
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: I just never thought of it. Like did y'all always
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: want to be in the NFL when you were a kid?
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: Yeah? No, you did? You did?
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: I didn't. I was just like, I'm gonna be good
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: at this. Okay, here's the next thing. I'm gonna be
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: good at that. Oh damn. We ended up here by
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: capitalizing on every opportunity in that path. Yeah, that's it's
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: different player your whole life.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: Yeah, dude. It was my answer for everything in every grade,
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: any paths as word. Yeah, pro football player, want to
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: be Dallas Cowboys, NFL player, NFL player, the secret question,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: dream job the NFL player?
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: Really?
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: Yeah, man, that's awesome.
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: I ever got that security question?
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: I was always like favorite pet, first car?
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Yeah, car, friend or street. You grew up.
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: It was the option of make up your own security question,
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: my favorite dream job.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: Hey, you brought up go karts, So you ever get
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: back on those boys and rip a little bit if
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: you go with the track over here, a.
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: Little bit of handle business? Uh, in a competitive nature? No,
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: that stuff is hard.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: I'm saying, we all go out. Let's say we all
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: we get it from here. We go over to the track,
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: the k one that's like five minutes a from your
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: own business.
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: You're getting smoked. You're getting smoked.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: You trying to.
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: This car is gonna win.
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: I know if I've established this environment of hostility, I
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: was asking a question, you're getting fucking smoked. Did you
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: come out there of me? He's like, no, fuck you, guys,
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: I kind of do a little some point.
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: If you're in the car, I feel like the fastest
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: go cart is gonna win?
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: Right, how much you weigh?
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: I can wait less tomorrow? Like, wait, what's the game
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: plan here?
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: Way?
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: No, you gotta go to the lightest weight. I gotta
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: lose forty to catch up this motherfucker. He's one.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: You're a bug forty five.
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: Yeah, that's no ship.
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: I weighed myself after the six hundred, I was one
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: thirty eight.
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: We gotta get you're a you're a gust of wind
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: away from flying away?
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: What's going on? I get light every now I left
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: off the ground. It's going under your car.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: You'll be hovering the whole time flying around there. I know,
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: so just off wait alone. You're getting beat two fifty five. Yeah,
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: but I'm tactical in them corners. I'm assuming you don't
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: let them pass you. No, I'll run your ass of
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: the wall.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: I know that. Hey we'll shake h bake.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: You go, Bubba. But you're so dumb you never thought
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: of that, dude, mockery my as.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: Do you want to take a moment and say fired up? There?
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: Ryan asked that question of Bubba because learning about getting
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: into the whole thing. Yeah, it is fascinting and knowing
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: too that you've got to come up with two hundred
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: and fifty grand, Like I'm assuming like you're trying to
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: get like sponsorships and people just kind of like help out.
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: I mean if you find sponsor Yeah, it's almost like
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: donors and like nil money and in some sort of way.
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: But yeah, you want to find sponsorship starting out for sure.
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: Like there's so many kids out there this this has
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: been said. I forget how they were to There are
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: so many people out there that could be champions that
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: we would never know because they never got the opportunity.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: Yeah, just because of funding. Yeah, that's nuts. Is there
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: somebody driving now that you're like they have based on
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: watching film and strategy and everything else, You're like they
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: have it. It's just a matter of time before they
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: become the best in our in our league.
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: Like in the local short track scene. Oh, I don't know,
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: I haven't. I'm so far removed from that. I would
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: say for what we're able to, what I'm able to watch,
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: like when we get to see the truck races they
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: race on Fridays, right, and then they expended or the
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: O'Reilly stuff races on Saturdays, Like we get to watch
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: those either in person or from our motor home because
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: we're there at the track, and I'd say it's it's
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: been tough to give a name, but as of lately,
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: I would I would look at Brent Cruise. Brent Cruise, Yeah,
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: he's been solid, Cruise really good. Yeah, Corey Heim is
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: really good. Corey Haim Yeah, yep, yep, Brent Cruise.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: It sounds like busting with the boys. He's to like
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: start a program and il program find the next best ones?
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: Should you should the boys competition?
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: Host a competition K one. Yeah, I'm literally I know
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: we've you guys have been talking since that conversation. I've
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: been just thinking about how do we all get in
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: go carts. I'm thinking to myself, we should do a segment, Buddy, I'm.
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: In you guys got a segment like not at K one,
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: like it actual go cards.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: You talk about your dogs, the ones of the cage
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: and everything.
- 1:07:56Speaker 5: No, no, no, like actual like go cards that will
- 1:07:58Speaker 5: go like one hundred.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: Well you need to like you guys got.
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: Nashville.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: No, I said, three digits.
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: Yeah we got. Yeah, we have like a couple we
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: have a carting facility that you can take your own
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: card up there. But this is like road course carding,
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: but like ye like this stuff like that's that's that
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: stuff right there.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: Ribs, how fast you going?
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: Those the shifter cards depending on how big the track is,
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: and you can get up close to a damn hunter.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: So you're talking shifter carts we're using. This is not automatic.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: You're shifted in these cards.
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: No, No, because you're you. We saw you. But they
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: have they have automatic cards and stuff.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: I'm saying it's one.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: Car that they're shifting. We need to know you need
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: to dial in that.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll practice, but I'm just saying my next time
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: going to get on a little Yeah, we.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: Need to figure we need to get a couple of cards,
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: and yeah.
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: We should do like anask or Olympics where we do
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: a go kart race and then me and Will versus
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: you guys on changing tires who can change tires the
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: fastest and douce a handful of NASCAR things things that
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: we can have.
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: That's actually, that's actually a really good idea.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Maybe, but maybe it's a trio because if we're doing
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: pit crew stuff, then we got it.
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: If it's out in Charlotte, we got Paul one Swan
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: most handsome guy in racing. Huh, who's the hottest guy
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: in the car on your mind?
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: Third, he's probably he's number one on number two.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: One.
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: Look at that, Look at that. Let's look at that
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: right there, right there.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a ridiculous photo for Paul Swan and he
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: did he did fucking solo.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: He was the only one that's looking.
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: He did that the day before we did our media
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: day and he was the only one in that building
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: for sure taking this.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: No doubt, like he wants the title, but he does
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: deserve the title.
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: That's that's the Rent the Runway fashion right there, Rent
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: run Yeah, he's he's hiring his stylears for that fashionable guy.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: Yeah, showed out about it. Yeah, and he took that
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: photo three times. Let's walk through the door again this
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: past week. Yeah, I mean some I'm a basic handsome guy.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: You go watch the last episode of Busting with the Boys,
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: It's like you see him sit in the chair and
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: that's full v taking place on his back and you
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: see from the front, you know, Paul. Oh yeah, I
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: mean the edit. Also, you guys didn't use it. Paul
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: way more way more favorites. That's crazy.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: I love that's like im Mortal Kombat graphic.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: Yeah taking place. Yeah, but yeah, I think I think
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: a Nascar combine gets there. He can do we get
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: all the red light with him before hit some cold tubs?
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: Are we?
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: We had a recovery?
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: You guys?
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: Do?
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: I guess?
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: Cult up?
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: Guys?
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: I love cults up. I'm still it's been six months
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: I've gotten in mind.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: But love it.
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: It's been good, Yeah, six months, but you love it?
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: I do. I love it all right, we'll kind of
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: training minutes.
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: Let's training, Yeah, like that's gangster.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: Five minutes is gangster.
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: Everyone's a little different.
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: But I think, uh, like we're not the biggest guys
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: out there, right, it doesn't really You try to be
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: as in shape with what's going to help you last
- 1:11:26Speaker 5: the longest. So like I don't lift a ton of weights,
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: but I do a lot of like core strength stuff
- 1:11:33Speaker 5: like heat endurance stuff. It's kind of big for me.
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: Mental like strength is just as important to me as
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: like physical stuff in the car, Like can you keep
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: your brain calm and focused for four hours in there
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: while it's one hundred and thirty degrees in it?
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: Like that's big to me.
- 1:11:52Speaker 5: So doing heart rate things that get me really high,
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: and then can I do activities that get my heart
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: rate down?
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: And I can?
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: I folks us on doing these activities like in the
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: spur of the moment. That's that's big on me. I
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: do like my sauna and cold plunge. I used THO
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: as a good bit. Those are pretty awesome. I like
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: swimming laps in my pool. That part's big as pool.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: I bet he does.
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: I can't be I'm not great at pools. I'm good
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: if I can stand, but tread and water I mean.
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I mean I don't sit there.
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: I can swim, Yeah, I can swim, but it's either.
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: Float on your back no shot either.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: Yeah, no shot. I'm sinking like a rock. Yeah, And
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: I don't have the whatever this move.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: Is to stay.
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: My wife is over here, just waving one finger. Look
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: at me.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: I've used all the limbs and all the focus in.
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: Your war slap out of second.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: I'm with you, bro, I'm with you. I love it
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: feels like a great first episode of Racing with the
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Boys feels really good. Have we missed anything, fellas? Yeah?
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: I think our goal is to create a beat between
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: you guys. But I don't feel like we really got.
- 1:12:54Speaker 5: I actually had a question for you, and I was
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: always curious about it because we get this lot when
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: you guys were playing. What was your favorite and least
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: favorite thing about your job?
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: Mm hmm. That's a great question. Favorite and the least favorite.
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: Thing, favorite thing. Process. I love the process, all.
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: Right, just to broad term the process, I thought so
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: full of ship. I thought he said prostitutes.
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: All we went, dude, The favorite thing was a dove.
- 1:13:30Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: And then the locker room after a win. That's or
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: the plane ride home after a big win. That's the
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: vibes are super high, guys are getting after it. That's
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: that's probably the thing you you missed the most and
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: love the most.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: The thing. Yeah, definitely game day, Yeah, game.
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: Well, look he hated game day. In the mornings, that
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: was my probably my least favorite thing post like, just
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: because the like you wake up. I've always been a
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: great sleeper, But as soon as like I would go
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: to sleep, I would not be like nervous or anything.
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: But as soon as I woke up in the morning,
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: whether it be like six or seven am, you know,
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: we have a noon kickoff. Those next six or five hours,
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: it's just more anxiety creeping into my brain as every
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: minute passes. But the guy I'm going against, what moves
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: he might make? What if this defense happens? What if
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: I miss this splitz? What if I make the same
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: mistake I made last week? And I'm not like in
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: my brain coachable, So all like the worries of what
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: could possibly happen would be in my head once kickoff
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: would happen. National anthems play to get the first hit
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: out of the way.
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: I feel boom.
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: That's that's awesome. Like if you're at a flow stay
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: in a game, there's nothing better. You're just feeling like
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: I really can't do wrong here. I can kind of
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: I can fuck around and do some new shit and
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: it's gonna work out. That's the best feel you can have.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: But before the game is that locker room, before you
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: go out, people get announced.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: That's the worst feeling. Just anticipation, Yeah, but also how
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: sick is it to kind of like have that anxiety
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: in that like doubt kind of creeping your head and
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: you're running out. You hear the crowd the pregame, whether
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: it's speeches or guys, you just get rowdy. You're fucking
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: can pay in your face and do all these things
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: because you think you think you're going to war. Yeah,
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: I think that that is. I look back and I'm
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: like those were such like sick moments, like kind of
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: like having the fear.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: Yeah, the ability like you're in a position to have
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: that feeling is a great feeling.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15:15Speaker 4: But I think it's interesting how you know, all of
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: us wired different, So seeing the contrast there, it's pretty
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: pretty special.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: Do you guys get I mean, pre game jitters, there's
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: got to be Is there a level of anxiety it
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: takes place there at all?
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: No?
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: Not really for the race. I mean we do you
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: guys have been to a race before, Yeah, and you
- 1:15:36Speaker 4: see how much work we have to do before the race,
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: like interviews and oh yeah, stuff stuff, media stuff, Yeah,
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: and like that that can stretch you out a lot,
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: especially when you wake up feeling good for the race
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: and for everything to go down. And and what excites
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: me the most is, and I've kind of grasped on
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: this over the last five or six years, is that
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: every morning you wake up on Sunday, it could be
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: your day, right, And I like, I'm at a point
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: in my career where my car is just as good
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: as Ryan's I can go out and win a championship
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: if I put everything together, and so there's no opportunity
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: greater than now. And so for the last six years,
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: I've woken up with that thought. It's pretty fucking cool.
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a badass.
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: Yeah. It almost feels like you you might have like
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: those emotions if you didn't have all the stuff like
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: in between. You almost have to like get through. Yeah.
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: I hate to say it that way, but as the
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: competitor and the main thing being the main thing that day.
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: Yeah, you have to. With time, it gets it gets
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: easier to compartmentalize and like no.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: No, but think if we had to do all of
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: those types of things, like the day.
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: Of a game, that would be game, that would be
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: absolute Tuesday afternoon, they're like, hey, we'll give you twenty
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: five hundred bucks ago Shakespeare, kiss bas buddy, I'm on.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: There Thursday night, Wednesday night.
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: What's the career span.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: Two and a half years average and a half really
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: yeah yeah, yeah, two and a half year average, a
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: lot of turnover. Yeah, so you get to that, there's
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: like a level of when you get to three, you're like, Eli,
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: I'm above the average.
- 1:17:06Speaker 4: We've many years.
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: Nine nine, I mean arguably ten, I'm a piece.
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: You know you're at peace?
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: Take nine.
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: Hey you guys going now, yeah, go ahead? Do you
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: know what you trust me? I'm there, I know what
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: you did? What do you What do you hate the most?
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: I feel like the thing I hated the most about
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: ball was basically the business side of it, honestly, because
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: you you wouldn't know Sometimes I'm going into off seasons
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: and you don't know if you're going to be back
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: with the same team, or the politics that kind of
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: go on internally, whether it's position, group defensively numbers, any
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: of that stuff. So it's like once you take once
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: I tasted that for the first time, or like getting
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: cut or realizing like you are just a commodity. Like
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: realizing that and seeing it for the first time kind
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: of puts like a weird taste in your mouth. As
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: far as like the game you grew up loving, seeing
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: all the team, seeing the pro teams, like I grew
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: up like a Dallas Cowboys, so like seeing the star,
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: getting to wear an NFL helmet, and college you're so
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: much team, team, team, It's all about culture and all
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: that stuff, which it is in the NFL too. But
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: once you taste like getting cut or seeing other guys
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: you cut, are just understanding how the business structure of
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: it works. It kind of like takes that kind of
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: takes away from from what you love.
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: That's the craziest thing to me about Like, let's just say, y'all,
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: sport like that we don't really have is you could
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: wake up Monday and Tuesday.
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: Could be like, hey, you're traded too. Yeah, that's wow
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: New York.
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: Yeah, pack of shit, Like you're leaving and there's nothing
- 1:18:35Speaker 5: you can do about it, right, Like that's just that's crazy, Like,
- 1:18:39Speaker 5: we don't have that.
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: That's not a thing no for us.
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: My first year on practice squad. I was fortunate to
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: be with the same team my entire first year on
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: practice squad. But a lot of guys it is like
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: a revolving door. Yeah, so you might go to where
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: you get cut, but then you put on the practice squad.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: Coaches really like you, staff likes you, like you feel good,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: you feel like you're part of the guys. You feel
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: like you're part of the locker room of the team.
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: But then some guys it's like they sign on the
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: six month lease or a year lease in an apartment
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: because they're thinking that, Okay, there's gonna be opportunity to here.
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: Then within two weeks you can be cut and then
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: you're having to go to let's you say, Indianapolis picks
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: you up, and now you're paying You're still paying the
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: lease on this spot over here, you're on practice squad.
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: You're having to do the same thing. Now you're trying
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: to negotiate, like, hey, can I just go a month
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: at a time because I truly have no clue where
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: I'm going to be. And it kind of like, you know,
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: you just kind of get sour because the coaches are
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: going to tell you one thing, or maybe an assistant
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: coach or one of your teammates, Hey, they like you this,
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: they like you that. But then once you get snipped, yeah,
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: you kind of like just don't have control if you
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: are like a bubble guy, right yeah, right, Yeah.
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: Our experiences were different. I didn't I only cut one
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: time and at the end of my career and everything
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: like that. But I remember my rookie year watching because
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: in college it's like I read shirt my freshman year,
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: so I'm really not I'm not playing, I'm just practice.
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: I'm there for scout team and you're kind of watching,
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: but you're in your brain in the coach's brand. It's like, oh,
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: we'll develop this guy, We'll get him up and hopefully
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: can be a starter in X, Y and Z and
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: have all the all the achievements he can possibly have.
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: So when you go into your rookie year, you're sitting
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: there like, oh, the rookie class that I come up
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: with all seven draft picks and the other ten undracted
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: free agents. You're like, oh, we're a little crew. This
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: is our class that we're all going to kind of
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: grow up together. And then that first cuts happened, where
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: they go from like ninety three and back then it
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: was ninety three to seventy two, then seventy fifty three,
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: the first cut happens, and four of your boys just
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: got hey, grab your playbook. GM wants to see you.
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: And you're watching it take place in the same place
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: over and over over again. That's it's just crazy to
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: You're like, I can't believe we can just all kind.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: Of be gone. Yeah, you don't. It's like you're also thinking,
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: like a buddy you had or a teammates your head
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: were like, they're good enough to be on the squad,
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: but in case you want to carry an extra receiver,
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: an extra running back, or somebody who can play special
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: teams to where it's just like a numbers game. You're like,
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: oh damn, yeah, hey buddy, I didn't see this coming.
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: And then when you get older, Yeah, you get older
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: and your boys are asking you questions about what you think,
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: and you're just like in your brain, you're like, I
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: think you look at your playing well, but there's this
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: many guys you're trying to like be positive for them,
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: and then they get snipped. He was like, fuck, yeah, hey,
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: I'm sorry, because you're not gonna really talk to him
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: during the season. You're gonna like check in because you're
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: so busy in your own world trying to accomplish your
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: own individual and team goals. This guy that you were
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: just so close with, he's off in the abyss somewhere
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: and you're just wondering, when are they gonna get my ass?
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:21:21Speaker 5: You know, did you guys ever in your nine years, like,
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: did your team ever draft a kid that was your position?
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: And where you're like, fuck, yeah, oh dude, when I
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: got free agency, I got I was in Washington for five.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: Then I signed here and uh remember Draft night, it
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: was like me and Wesley Wood was in the was
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: in the spot, I was working bass. He was like
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: the nickel and dime guy, Like he was like the captain.
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: He was the guy. Then we're on draft night. I'm
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: sending at this bar over in Germantown and they draft.
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: They trade up, Titans trade up and draft Rashaun Evans
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: inside back or out of Alabama, and I'm just watching
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: first round. I'm like, fuck, you already know what time
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: it is?
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: Man?
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: And he was hurt. He was hurt the entire preseason.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: He had a hamstring injury. So I'm running ones in
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: some packages. Wes is kind of splitting reps at the
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: the mic and the will and he's out all of
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: training camp. But him being the investment, like he's out
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: there if he was ready to go week one, he's
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: out there playing week one. So it's like like you
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: taste things like that and you're just like, fuck man.
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: But I knew, like on that night when they traded
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: up to get this man, You're like, WHOA, there goes
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: over going man?
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: I was sitting with my boys too. They were in town.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: Like one of my buddies was having a bachelor party
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: and we're all kind of sitting together and they just
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: kind of like look over and like just pat me
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: on the back.
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: Sorry, broh, that's crazy. Yeah. They I had We had
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: Jack Conklin they drafted. He played the same position as me,
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: but he went to right tackle. So there was a
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: whole situation where we had the first overall pick and
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: the rumor was that the Titans are or I guess,
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: like the twitter was like, Okay, well happen is We'll
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: take this guy. We'll move Taylor to right. And in
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: my brain, I'm like, I can't play right tackle, so
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: I'm only gonna play left. And I had this thing.
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: I just met my wife and I was like, hey,
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: just so you know, if they asked me to move
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: to right, I'm gonna ask to be traded. I'm gonna
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: ask them to get rid of me because I can't.
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: I can't play right. I'm not going to play right.
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: It was an ego thing too, and so I go
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: into OTA's they trade the first overall pick away for
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: the thirteenth pick, but on draft night they trade up
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: to eight to take this kid named Jack Conklin, who
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: ended up having a great career and he played right
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: I played left. Ends up going to Cleveland. Then they
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: traded they I think in twenty twenty, they drafted this
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: guy named Isaiah Wilson, who also played left tackle, who
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: was gonna be like my replacement. He ended up not
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: working out. Kilan Raidn's like, there's like three or four
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: instances where I was like, okay, like I see what
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: you guys are, Like, I understand, Yeah, you have to
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: have a backup plan that takes place here.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: So who's the guy who's the left tackle before you?
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: Because Taylor in the first round, like Taylor's guy, he
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: comes across the screen. You're sitting there as a left
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: tackle of the team.
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: You're like, fuck yeah, yeah, see there was the guy,
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: the guy that I ended up replacing. His name is
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: Michael Ruse. He played for ten years with the Titans,
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: and then the guy before him was Brett Brad Hopkins
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: who played ten years for the Titans. So there's been
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: twenty years of continuity at the left tackle position of
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: just two guys, and then I get drafted handsome boy,
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: no shot that look like, oh yeah, that dude was
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: an animal too. I'm just letting you know.
- 1:24:36Speaker 4: Oh yeah, god, what a dog.
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: Yeah, look at that that. I went to a tanning
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: bed every single week until the combine. No way, we
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: got the same skin complexion right there, bro, I was
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: you got it, you got it.
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: We gotta get like a light skin photo after this.
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely absolutely, no way. Man, that's wild.
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: Yeah there was. That's and that's without the spreak twn.
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: That to me right there, that's my red shirt freshman year.
- 1:25:07Speaker 4: I believe that's wild.
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: So anyway, Yeah, that game's always played. Will has a
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: much different situations situation of like guys game drafted. For me,
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: it was like I'm supposed to be like a pillar
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: of this team at all times, and there was like
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: a level of pressure there. The thing I hated the
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: most how much meetings we had.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: To me.
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: It was like, actually the install, I need to know
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: the basis of what they're going to do in there,
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: and then I kind of want to be left alone
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: to watch my guy because I have this like one
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: on one taken place. Let me Yeah, just let let
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: the dog out of the cage for you know what
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: I'm saying, these Wednesday meetings early for your boy. You
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: know not my sleep.
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: You know, I'm with you.
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: Bubba answered what he hated most. You can't just let
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: him take the grenade. What do you hate the most about?
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: What I hate about it? If you're off, like can
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: you suck?
- 1:25:52Speaker 5: Like your cars are not where they need to be
- 1:25:53Speaker 5: and nothing's going right, Like it turns it into a
- 1:25:57Speaker 5: job really fast, Like I whether you think that you're
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: internally not doing the right things, whether your team is
- 1:26:04Speaker 5: kind of struggling, not having the best equipment out there,
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: Like that's just a competitive nature.
- 1:26:09Speaker 4: I hate that, Like I hate being in that spot.
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: But the beauty of it is you work your way
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: out of it, you know, And that's the that's.
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: The cool thing about competing. But god damn, I hate
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: running bad. It sucks, man, same as losing, Like you
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: hate losing. There's a difference though, in our sport between
- 1:26:24Speaker 5: losing and running bad. Yeah, Like you're going to lose
- 1:26:27Speaker 5: a lot more than you win in our sport, just
- 1:26:29Speaker 5: part of it. Like if you're losing, but you're running,
- 1:26:32Speaker 5: you know, top ten consistently.
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: You're running pretty good.
- 1:26:35Speaker 5: Like you're competing, dude, If you're running like thirtieth, twenty
- 1:26:38Speaker 5: fifth every week, it's just beating your dick into the dirt,
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: like and it's mentally you just get.
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: I'm not running there. I've just fucking got wiped out
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: last fucking month and that's where I've finished. It hurts
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: it a couple of.
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: Those days you look in the mirror and be like,
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: who are you really?
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: Like? What are we doing?
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: When you're old, I'm not running well?
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: At what point?
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: How many races have to go by before you get
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: in somebody's ask about the way your car is running?
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: If you fully know that you were supremely confident that.
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: It's not you, that's the thing, Like that all it depends.
- 1:27:13Speaker 5: Sometimes you do think it's you, Like you get in
- 1:27:15Speaker 5: your head about it, like I twenty two, I didn't win,
- 1:27:19Speaker 5: and I didn't win for like a year and a half,
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: and like I was mentally down. I was like my
- 1:27:24Speaker 5: teammate won the championship that year. In twenty two, I
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: didn't win a race, and I'm like, dude, I suck,
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: Like I can't do it. My team's obviously running well,
- 1:27:32Speaker 5: I'm not good enough to do this. And that was
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: tough to get over for sure, Like you had to
- 1:27:38Speaker 5: have a lot of internal talks in yourself, like how
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: do I change up what I'm doing?
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: That part makes it tough.
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: When you think you're the problem because your team is
- 1:27:46Speaker 5: doing the right things, but like you are not running
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: how your teammates are running, that part sinks.
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: Is there?
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: I know I asked the question when you're getting somebody's ask,
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: has everybody gotten you about the way you're racing? Bringing
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: the office, Hey, listen, we need our best players to
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: play out there best on game day.
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: Besides my dad, No, people, there's not a whole lot
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: of like his dad gets.
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: We need more.
- 1:28:09Speaker 5: I think they will discreetly drop hints like they'll never
- 1:28:12Speaker 5: look at you be like you need to do a
- 1:28:14Speaker 5: better job, like, hey, we think you can improve.
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: You know these areas in this area. You know, I
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: think you're you should look into this more. It's not
- 1:28:21Speaker 4: like you suck. You need to do better. So that's
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: the one thing. It was actually on the way up
- 1:28:27Speaker 4: here reading this book, Tim Grover, he was MJ's and
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: Kobe's and Duey's or Dwayne Wade's trainer and stuff. And
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: our locker room talk is way different, Our coach talk
- 1:28:42Speaker 4: is way different than what you guys go through. Hey, motherfucker.
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: You need to get your shit together, like we gotta Hey, man,
- 1:28:48Speaker 4: you want to go out to lunch, let's talk about
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: our performance, and it needs to happen because we got
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: a lot of softies in our sport.
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: Really has it been has it kind of developed that way?
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: Like has it always kind of been that way? I
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: think it's gone. So you went for more mechanical people
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: to now more engineer background, and so people coming from
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: four year degrees or master's degrees and in college and
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: looking at computer screens and not having their astitude out.
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: You know, I remember getting my ass beat when I
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: was a kid, not beat, it sounds terrible, but also
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: the switch yeah yeah out its gentle parenting shit right, Yeah,
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: And I think that applies to a lot of people
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: in life and their adult ways, because I'll be the
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: first person to be like, hey, we fucking sucked, and
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: then I'm the asshole.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: Then the team you at to lunch being like, hey,
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: so the way you came out those guys earlier, you
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: got to be just know that we need to nurture
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: the relationship, not.
- 1:29:43Speaker 4: Yeah, and you're trying to push the same direction together.
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: We're all pushing towards the end goal. It's just we
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: got a massage on one side. That's to where I'm like, no,
- 1:29:53Speaker 4: when I suck, you better fucking tell.
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: Me you want that hard coaching, Yeah, takes place.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: What's the biggest ass you and you've witnessed with his
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: old man on him.
- 1:30:05Speaker 4: It's my dad always did it behind closed door. Yeah,
- 1:30:07Speaker 4: Or or it's Monday two o'clock when we're in the
- 1:30:11Speaker 4: middle of a fucking golf sash fucking phone vibrate in
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: the golf cart and he's just quiet ten minutes and
- 1:30:21Speaker 4: I'm like, what is that, Dave?
- 1:30:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yes, sir, Yeah, that is it.
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: You got it.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: He's gotten better.
- 1:30:34Speaker 4: That is what the championships.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: Yeah, as as we were kind of breaking down, like
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: the business side was getting cut in football, like how
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: does that? Does that happen in racing? Like if you're
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: driving bad and you're not getting like wrecked or anything
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: like that, if you're just driving back, you're you're the
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: bottom ten consistently like our guys having like you know
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: in our world, like turning your iPad, how do they
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: replace you guys?
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of us are contracts, so we'll be
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: on a two year, three year whatever it is, and
- 1:31:03Speaker 4: and so you run bad in your first year, you
- 1:31:06Speaker 4: still got a whole another year to get your ship
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: turned around.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: Yeah, so you could just run bad b bottom ten
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: entire first year. And if you're on a two year deal,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: it's more of like, all right, they're probably gonna get
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: rid of me after the contract expires you.
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: Unless you go ball out that next year.
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: Unless there's a right right that that can happen, or
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: there is a clause you could Yeah, there's a clause
- 1:31:25Speaker 4: in your contract, like if you didn't meet expectations, then
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: they could cut you. It's just all depends on how
- 1:31:29Speaker 4: your contracts, right, Yeah, got you, yep, got you.
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: That's some great type stuff. If you don't meet expectations,
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: like what are the expectations, right, championship or bust?
- 1:31:37Speaker 4: Well, it's it's what you.
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: You.
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: You have the luxury. It's not like a team hands
- 1:31:41Speaker 4: you a contract. They do and then you go back
- 1:31:44Speaker 4: and word it like, well, okay, I'm a rookie and
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: you expect me to win a championship or i'm cut,
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: Like no, how about let's go finish top twenty in
- 1:31:50Speaker 4: the points and then we work our way there. So
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: you massage out your own contract to benefit you.
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: Got you like that?
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: I know we're winding down. We do have one more
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: question before we deal. Mitch, just put me on this
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: radioactive stuff where it hits your guys's MIC's. You guys
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: are talking to this guy's a dick, this is running. Well,
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: when should we pick the whole thing? There's nothing better
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: than my brain if I get on radioactive next week
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: and I hear both of you guys are shoutout race
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: with the boys, just right as the race starts, right,
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: I mean, there's got to be a world we've developed
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: that much for us for sure.
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: Well, well, I know you're new to the relationship. But
- 1:32:23Speaker 2: a little thing you want to know about me, I
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: ask for a lot.
- 1:32:26Speaker 4: I know that.
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: So if you guys want to show hard I love
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: hard Field reciprocated at times.
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: Yeah, So if you guys want to show I can
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: see that in that old little boy from Michigan.
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Arizona, but yes, I went to Michigan.
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: I'm with you, I'm with you.
- 1:32:39Speaker 5: I'm with you six four three, except that as the
- 1:32:44Speaker 5: car right there.
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: Oh yeah, dude, very emotional, very emotional football player over more.
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: Look at that?
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: Are you kidding?
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: Me.
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: Those coaches in Michigan were like, this is our guy, dude,
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: this is the guy. Yeah, it's so good.
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: I'll tell you what. That dude's drinking more beers than
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: anybody else in a.
- 1:33:06Speaker 5: Still got solid hairline. Hairline has not received appreciate that.
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: Yeah, you should see my dad, dude, Dave silver Fox. Yeah,
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: he's he'll know, not in the league, but he'll talk
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: about he walked out in Minnesota and his lung collapse
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: and he couldn't make it. He's got that, he's got
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: that old song and he's watching this right now.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: Look at that.
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: He's doing a disservice to himself having that hat on too,
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: because he's got a he's got a you can see
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: Michelle x s as batties. That's nice, David, Dave's fucking
- 1:33:41Speaker 2: got it man.
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: Anyway, thank you guys for coming on.
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: Yeah, before we before.
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: We get out of here. I know, like obviously there
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: was a massive news that took place in NASCAR last
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: week with Kyle Busch. Just now yeah, just now, no, Uh,
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: clearly he's like one of the ghosts. He's meant a
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: lot of this sport. He's done so much in the
- 1:33:59Speaker 2: series of events that took place in such a short
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: amount of time. I'm sure it's like a rattled not
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: only you guys, but the whole world of NASCAR. Like
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: I would just love to know, like what Kyle meant
- 1:34:08Speaker 2: to you guys, what it was like racing with him,
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: you know, something along those lines.
- 1:34:12Speaker 4: Yeah, for me, I raced for Kyle in twenty thirteen,
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: twenty fourteen, and when we were talking about the Truck Series,
- 1:34:20Speaker 4: I was racing for Kyle then and so race for
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: him for two years and that's when I started racing
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: against him. So that was fourteen years of competing against Kyle,
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: being able to see his ups and downs and everything
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: in between, winning multiple championships. Yeah, like really really tough
- 1:34:40Speaker 4: loss for the community for sure, tough loss for me
- 1:34:43Speaker 4: personally because we didn't I said this on air, Kyle
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: was really really hard to talk to. Kyle was still,
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: you know, to him, unbeatable. Totally totally respect it, but
- 1:34:59Speaker 4: like he often made you feel dumb when you went
- 1:35:02Speaker 4: and asked him a question about something, and that made
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: it hard for me to talk to him about anything, right,
- 1:35:09Speaker 4: And so I wouldn't say a relationship took a back seat,
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: but it just kind of it was what it was.
- 1:35:15Speaker 4: But we would just have random moments of conversations and
- 1:35:20Speaker 4: it was fun. And when I heard the news, I
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: looked around and everything that was in front of me
- 1:35:29Speaker 4: is because of him. You know, the life that I have,
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: It's all started in the Truck Series winning my first race.
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: I remember after the first season. This goes back to
- 1:35:38Speaker 4: getting cut my first first season in trucks. I won Martinsville,
- 1:35:43Speaker 4: which was race eighteen of twenty two, so it was
- 1:35:46Speaker 4: getting towards the end, and he set me down after
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: the season and he's like, if you didn't win Martinsville,
- 1:35:50Speaker 4: you weren't coming back. But here you are. Make something happen.
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: We went on to win four more the next year
- 1:35:57Speaker 4: and I had a great year. Lost championship because Ryan,
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: but is what it is. What Kyle was an instrumental
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: part to who I was and what I was about,
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: and so definitely miss him. Still think about him every day.
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I loved what you said on there too, because
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: you also shared a moment to where you guys had
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: like one of your your final conversations where he's mentioning
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: how he's proud of you, and it kind of took
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: you by by surprise, but also it's almost like this
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: full I don't know, I guess this moment to where
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: when this stuff happens, I'm sure it kind of you know,
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: obviously shocks you, but also you're probably very happy that
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: that moment.
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: Well, it makes me feel like, why did I actually
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: not not hold a grudge, but why did I resent
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: talking to Kyle when you know he actually did care
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: And you'll never be able to have that conversation again,
- 1:36:49Speaker 4: You're right, but yeah, you don't know who's coming up
- 1:36:51Speaker 4: behind you to give you a hug and pull you
- 1:36:53Speaker 4: in tight. And that was that was him that day
- 1:36:56Speaker 4: after after Indie, and that was pretty cool.
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: That's awesome. I feel solid. Boys, you feel good.
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: I'm just in here.
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just just thinking about it. The somber moment.
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: Great episode. Yeah, but we do appreciate you guys coming
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: on being the first two casts of Racing with the
