- 1:20Speaker 4: of audio video.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Well, I was rocking the first hour and now we
- 1:24Speaker 2: got Johnny Cash to start us in second hour here
- 1:27Speaker 2: on Chip Howard Sports Talk on a Monday and Russy
- 1:32Speaker 2: you got two out of three. I was really really
- 1:37Speaker 2: hoping that I was going to show up here with
- 1:39Speaker 2: a with a series win today. I knew you'd show up.
- 1:43Speaker 2: You got a World Series Cup, yeah, and a Rangers
- 1:49Speaker 2: World Series hat.
- 1:50Speaker 5: No, it's an All Star hat.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Ha.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Well the gold, you know, the gold kind of threw
- 1:53Speaker 2: me off there.
- 1:54Speaker 5: Well, this is from the when the Rangers hosted.
- 1:56Speaker 1: This is All Star Week two years ago. Yes, I
- 1:58Speaker 1: broke out the All Star hat. Okay, that's I mean.
- 2:01Speaker 2: That was the ugliest All Star uniform I'd ever seen.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that was really atrocious. I mean you don't even
- 2:09Speaker 1: want to buy it. No, there's no wed by that thing. Now.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I like the batting that batting pass because they're in
- 2:16Speaker 1: the team colors. Yes, but those those colors were just off.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I mean, what do they think. I wish that they
- 2:24Speaker 1: just go back to you get to wear your your
- 2:26Speaker 1: team's uniforms, right.
- 2:27Speaker 2: You wear your homes or you wear your.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Broth and those made the best photos in the seventies
- 2:31Speaker 1: and oh yes, yeah, it's like when they had the
- 2:34Speaker 1: like the Pirates and that solid you know, gold in
- 2:38Speaker 1: the Great Pirates classic hat, and you had the Feelies
- 2:41Speaker 1: the Powder Blues and the Cubs and you had so
- 2:44Speaker 1: many teams that had the powder Blues and it was
- 2:46Speaker 1: just there was so much color in those photos.
- 2:49Speaker 5: And I used to love that.
- 2:50Speaker 1: And now they do these uniforms that are just again
- 2:54Speaker 1: the whole All Star game.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I'm not gonna buy the All Star when they were
- 3:00Speaker 2: in Seattle because it looked like a Mariner's uniform. I'm
- 3:03Speaker 2: not I'm not gonna buy an Astro's jersey. It looks
- 3:08Speaker 2: like a Mariner's jersey.
- 3:09Speaker 5: No way, no way. I agree with you. And that's
- 3:11Speaker 5: the same thing.
- 3:11Speaker 1: It's like, I don't buy these city connect things because
- 3:14Speaker 1: I don't like them.
- 3:15Speaker 5: I know they're.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Tahas. Yeah, I'm not buying that. I might buy the
- 3:21Speaker 1: hat because the hat just looks like the old Rangers logo,
- 3:25Speaker 1: but I'm not buying the jersey. And I hated that
- 3:28Speaker 1: slat that those pajama like bottoms that they used to
- 3:32Speaker 1: wear when they had the you know, the what the
- 3:36Speaker 1: peak I know they call it. Yeah, anyway, it was ugly.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I didn't like it. It was like, no, I'm not
- 3:43Speaker 1: buying that.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I like the first Astros City Connect more than the
- 3:47Speaker 2: second one.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I did too. I did too, And again I buy.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I bought the hat the the from the first one,
- 3:55Speaker 1: but only I did it in the red and blue.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I didn't do it in that stupid black hat. Is
- 4:01Speaker 1: just like, I don't understand what they're doing. I mean,
- 4:03Speaker 1: you go away from your team, coach, like Boston has
- 4:07Speaker 1: the most awful city Connects. I hate the green and
- 4:10Speaker 1: the yellow. It's like, give me a break.
- 4:12Speaker 5: Man.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's what we wore back in the twenties
- 4:15Speaker 2: and you were still the Red Sox. Then, I guess
- 4:18Speaker 2: all the real you could afford was like.
- 4:20Speaker 1: The Chicago Bears throwbacks when they have those. Yeah, just
- 4:25Speaker 1: the stripes, the downward stripes on their jerseys.
- 4:28Speaker 5: It's the terrible. Yeah.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah, we could go off on the uniform talk.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Yeah, but I just you know, it was kind of
- 4:35Speaker 2: funny because I hadn't even seen the Tayhouse uniform until
- 4:38Speaker 2: Friday night.
- 4:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:40Speaker 2: They're ugly, Yeah they are.
- 4:42Speaker 5: I don't like them. Yeah, I mean they're better.
- 4:45Speaker 2: They're better than the ones they had last year, the
- 4:47Speaker 2: Cream Ones.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Well, the worst thing about the Cream Ones was those
- 4:51Speaker 1: stupid black pants.
- 4:52Speaker 6: Man.
- 4:53Speaker 1: They could tell me their navy blue, but they're stupid.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Then they look like pajama pants. It's like these is embarrassing.
- 5:00Speaker 5: I don't like it. Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 1: So anyway, uh but yeah, it was. It was great
- 5:06Speaker 1: weekend for the Rangers. They to comebacks to come backs.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I think that they seriously exposed one of the weaknesses
- 5:14Speaker 1: that this team has had, even though the team e
- 5:17Speaker 1: r A.
- 5:17Speaker 5: The bullpit in the RA has been pretty good.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Uh.
- 5:20Speaker 5: There, they got to making trade.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Because Astros came back to That's the other thing about that.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Here's it was a great game.
- 5:27Speaker 2: They were great. It was a great series.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Except for the second game when the Astros just destroyed
- 5:33Speaker 1: Rocker and that game was over early.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I thought that was a great game.
- 5:36Speaker 5: No, I'm sure you did. But uh, but the.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Other two games were better because the Astros came back
- 5:41Speaker 2: and then the Rangers route.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Here's from the funny statistic is the Rangers have blown
- 5:45Speaker 1: eleven says this year. They're nine and two in those games.
- 5:49Speaker 1: That's kind of crazy.
- 5:50Speaker 2: That is kind of crazy.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And so that they did that three times this week.
- 5:53Speaker 1: You know, they they gave up a lead and then
- 5:56Speaker 1: they came back and they won. And I can't keep
- 5:58Speaker 1: doing that. They are playing better offensively. Uh, and you
- 6:03Speaker 1: might as well just plan it, you know. I'm I've
- 6:05Speaker 1: given up on Seeger come back. I just he may
- 6:08Speaker 1: come back.
- 6:08Speaker 2: The best players are already playing short stuff for you.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Well, I tell you Zeke could have been an All Star.
- 6:15Speaker 1: And I tell you Josh Young's come back in a long,
- 6:19Speaker 1: long way.
- 6:19Speaker 2: And to get watch Jahan Peterson's up forty points. It's
- 6:22Speaker 2: the last time I paid attention when Astro's paid, but.
- 6:25Speaker 5: He's he's played really really well.
- 6:27Speaker 1: He's hitting for power and Langford's hitting for power.
- 6:31Speaker 2: No, it's just terrible all all the both teams are
- 6:36Speaker 2: so flawed.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Yeah, there are, but you can't give up on them
- 6:40Speaker 1: because we've seen what happens.
- 6:41Speaker 2: You think both these teams have some heart. I think
- 6:44Speaker 2: that's why the Astros came back. I think that's why
- 6:46Speaker 2: the Rangers came back. Both teams have some heart. They
- 6:48Speaker 2: understand that they're in this. If the Astros had one yesterday,
- 6:53Speaker 2: they would be the wild card and been half a
- 6:56Speaker 2: game behind the Rangers.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yeah, the lead. It's going to be very close all
- 7:00Speaker 1: the way because I don't take any team in the
- 7:02Speaker 1: divisions good enough to run away from him.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Do you want do you want? Do you want the
- 7:07Speaker 2: Rangers to sell, stand Pat or buy?
- 7:10Speaker 1: I would stamp Pat with the hope unless you can
- 7:14Speaker 1: get another bullpen arm Scooble.
- 7:18Speaker 2: No, definitely, you wouldn't take school. You wouldn't take a
- 7:20Speaker 2: rental on scoobl.
- 7:21Speaker 1: There ain't no way they have enough pieces to get him.
- 7:27Speaker 1: But if they could get a relief, pitch your arm.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I think the hope is you get Cody Bradford back
- 7:32Speaker 1: on the other half, you get Jordan Montgomery back on
- 7:35Speaker 1: the other half, you get Jack Lyder back pretty soon,
- 7:39Speaker 1: and then there is a couple of bullpen arms that
- 7:43Speaker 1: could come back that are on the injured list right now,
- 7:45Speaker 1: so you could get some pitching back and really kind
- 7:49Speaker 1: of strengthen that staff.
- 7:52Speaker 5: It's been pretty good, so I.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Don't think quite, Frank, I don't think the Rangers have
- 7:57Speaker 1: enough you know, prospects anymore like the Astros to get
- 8:01Speaker 1: a big time And like I said before, I told
- 8:05Speaker 1: lou this, you can't trade Seger right now because he's
- 8:09Speaker 1: got no value. And if he did, if you got
- 8:11Speaker 1: him healthy and he started hitting, then yeah, he I'd
- 8:16Speaker 1: trade Seeger. I'd get rid of that contract if I could.
- 8:20Speaker 1: But again, what are you going to get back from him?
- 8:23Speaker 1: Not not much. I mean I've heard a couple people
- 8:28Speaker 1: talk about the least valuable player in the American League
- 8:32Speaker 1: this year is between Vladimir Guerrero and course Seeger. I mean,
- 8:38Speaker 1: they've done nothing and they're supposed to carry their team.
- 8:42Speaker 1: And so the fact that the Rangers have played pretty good,
- 8:47Speaker 1: you know recently, they didn't play well at all early
- 8:51Speaker 1: like the ass they weren't as bad as the Astros start, right,
- 8:55Speaker 1: the Astros that I actually played pretty darn well lately.
- 8:57Speaker 2: I think, you know, well, they've they're going through the
- 9:00Speaker 2: same kind of thing. Who you're gonna get some guys back.
- 9:03Speaker 1: And you know, and they've got Jordan, and Jordan can
- 9:06Speaker 1: carry an offense. And that guy we talked him off
- 9:10Speaker 1: the air. That's that's a guy who I'll pay to watch,
- 9:14Speaker 1: you know, play. I mean, I'm just always surprised when
- 9:18Speaker 1: the Rangers get him out. He's just that good. And
- 9:21Speaker 1: we talked off air. You know, Yeah, I hit the
- 9:24Speaker 1: homers and you know, he had this, you know, the
- 9:26Speaker 1: double in the first game. But to me, the most
- 9:29Speaker 1: impressive of bat was yesterday and the Rangers had two
- 9:33Speaker 1: strikes on him, and I think it was early in
- 9:36Speaker 1: the game. So Mackenzie Gore made a perfect pitch and
- 9:41Speaker 1: it was up real tight on him and he swung.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And there's no other human being in the planet right now,
- 9:50Speaker 1: because well, because if Tony's not playing and Bonds is retired,
- 9:54Speaker 1: who could hit that ball and keep it fair and
- 9:58Speaker 1: hit it with enough power that he's single, Like, there's
- 10:03Speaker 1: no possible way that I've I can see that other
- 10:08Speaker 1: than just a superhuman like this guy is really fun
- 10:12Speaker 1: to watch. And as I as you know, I'm not
- 10:14Speaker 1: an Astros fan by any means, but I love watching
- 10:18Speaker 1: your on play. Yeah, and I respect the heck out
- 10:21Speaker 1: of Altuve and i'd like I told you off air.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Okay, I will say this. The Rangers fans booed Altuve mercilessly.
- 10:30Speaker 5: Yeah, they always do. They're stupid.
- 10:33Speaker 2: But I went back and looked, and the Rangers in
- 10:36Speaker 2: twenty seventeen when all this stuff comes out, sold you
- 10:40Speaker 2: Darvish to the Dodgers.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:42Speaker 1: It's not about that head to head. It's just it's
- 10:46Speaker 1: just what.
- 10:46Speaker 2: I don't I don't think fans in any fan bases
- 10:50Speaker 2: if you are mad about something that happened in a
- 10:53Speaker 2: season where your team didn't want to win, Okay, if
- 10:57Speaker 2: you're a seller, I don't want to hear from you.
- 11:01Speaker 2: If you're a Dodgers fan or a Yankees fan or
- 11:04Speaker 2: a Red Sox fan and you want to boo anybody
- 11:07Speaker 2: on that Astros team because you lost to him in
- 11:09Speaker 2: the playoffs, more power to you.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't.
- 11:13Speaker 5: I don't do that.
- 11:14Speaker 2: But you were twenty six games behind the Astros.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean you're you're preaching to the choir here.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I don't.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I didn't know boo.
- 11:23Speaker 2: I know, the ladies. The lady right next to me
- 11:26Speaker 2: was just okay, well guess what he did something in
- 11:31Speaker 2: that game. So us Astro fans there turn their booze
- 11:36Speaker 2: intown two vays.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Well, and you know, I got on TV last year
- 11:39Speaker 1: on the Rangers TV after uh, the Rangers were playing
- 11:44Speaker 1: the Astros down there, and then Garcia Homers and so
- 11:47Speaker 1: I'm the only one standing up in a section right
- 11:49Speaker 1: behind the Rangers dugout. So I get it. I mean, yeah,
- 11:52Speaker 1: they used to love the boo Garcia, and I don't.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I didn't really understand that.
- 11:57Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I can't because he owned that Atros. Well, yeah, he
- 12:01Speaker 2: was the mayor of Houston.
- 12:02Speaker 5: But so Tuvey to.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Be Fairs hit forty home runs in his career against
- 12:07Speaker 1: the Rangers. I'm not I'm not joking. I mean I
- 12:10Speaker 1: just said that was his fortieth and that's pretty good.
- 12:13Speaker 5: That's pretty good.
- 12:14Speaker 2: That's even more than uh Lad Senior.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it's uh, it's the most of any player that's
- 12:23Speaker 1: ever played against the Rangers, that includes Redis Jackson.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Wow.
- 12:27Speaker 1: So I mean, tip your hat and he's no, you
- 12:32Speaker 1: know what, he's second. He's second behind Mike Trout. So okay, yeah,
- 12:36Speaker 1: so that's pretty good company.
- 12:38Speaker 2: But they don't boo Trout. No, it's because the Angels
- 12:41Speaker 2: are terrible.
- 12:42Speaker 1: The other Angels that are terrible and there not in
- 12:44Speaker 1: the state, and there has never been a rivalry until
- 12:47Speaker 1: Aren't you glad we have a rivalry. That's great. I
- 12:49Speaker 1: love Sports eight, but it's so much better.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Than when we were doing interdivisional right.
- 12:54Speaker 1: When I went down to Houston a couple times ago,
- 12:57Speaker 1: there was a guy down there, and of course I
- 12:59Speaker 1: had been arranging stuff on and he had a dark
- 13:02Speaker 1: blue and orange T shirt that said Arlington Sucks. I
- 13:07Speaker 1: was like, look, I hate your T shirt, but I
- 13:09Speaker 1: love the message. I love because I love the Sports eight.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I love the fact that you know, I hate Houston,
- 13:17Speaker 1: you hate Arlington.
- 13:17Speaker 5: That's fine.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I like it. Yesterday my brother wore the Nolan Ryan
- 13:24Speaker 2: bloody shirt giveaway, okay, and I wore a rainbow Astros
- 13:30Speaker 2: Nolan Ryan shirt.
- 13:31Speaker 5: That's perfect. That's perfect because not you know, I.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Know, if I wear Nolan Ryan shirt there, I'm not
- 13:37Speaker 2: getting any slack. Nobody's throwing a beer on me or
- 13:40Speaker 2: anything like that. You know what, I finally figured out
- 13:43Speaker 2: a jersey I had I could wear Mike Scott, I have.
- 13:47Speaker 2: You know, I've got a Hall of Fame Mike Scott
- 13:49Speaker 2: jersey that I could probably wear down there, and people
- 13:51Speaker 2: aren't even gonna know who he is because Astros weren't
- 13:54Speaker 2: playing the Rangers when Mike Scott was there.
- 13:56Speaker 1: There's stupid baseball fans that come to the games just
- 14:00Speaker 1: to you know, yeah, buy beer, and so yeah, they
- 14:04Speaker 1: might not have known, but I mean that's what I
- 14:06Speaker 1: love about going to Wrigley. I've been to fourteen different ballparks,
- 14:10Speaker 1: and Wrigly by far as my favorite because we sat
- 14:12Speaker 1: out in the outfield and the fans truly knew this
- 14:15Speaker 1: is twenty sixteen, when the Rangers had the best record
- 14:18Speaker 1: in American League and that the Cubs went on to
- 14:19Speaker 1: win the World Series, and so they knew everything about
- 14:22Speaker 1: you know, Cole Hamil's was pitching today. I mean, we
- 14:25Speaker 1: got we're in for a long day, you know. And
- 14:27Speaker 1: then we made friends out there and they knew they
- 14:30Speaker 1: knew the game right, and so we talked back and
- 14:32Speaker 1: forth by you know, how Rizzo was doing really really well.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Obviously in twenty sixteen the Cubs, could they break the
- 14:38Speaker 1: curse and all these things, and they're like, well, the
- 14:41Speaker 1: game's over, Rangers won. We all took a photo and
- 14:43Speaker 1: he goes, we'll see you back in October.
- 14:44Speaker 5: Well that didn't happen.
- 14:45Speaker 1: But it's just like, I love it being around fans
- 14:50Speaker 1: that didn't know the game.
- 14:51Speaker 5: And if you go to a game.
- 14:52Speaker 1: In Arlington, if you go to game in Houston, there's
- 14:55Speaker 1: a good chance the people around you are going to
- 14:57Speaker 1: start cheering as soon as the ball will go up
- 15:00Speaker 1: in the air like it's a pop fly.
- 15:02Speaker 5: Guys, there's no reason to cheer. Okay, I'm not just
- 15:05Speaker 5: gonna say that.
- 15:06Speaker 2: The woman right next to me every time the ball
- 15:07Speaker 2: was put in play, I've seen it. I swooped, he
- 15:11Speaker 2: ooped it up.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and then oh yeah, oh well, trust me, there's.
- 15:18Speaker 2: There are many Astros fans doing the same thing.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Promise you I've experienced it.
- 15:22Speaker 2: But but that big said it was the first time.
- 15:27Speaker 2: And I didn't know this until yesterday when the Astros
- 15:29Speaker 2: had the lead. My brother turned to me and the
- 15:32Speaker 2: ninth inning and goes, do you know I've never seen
- 15:34Speaker 2: the Rangers beat the Astros. Wow kidding, And and we
- 15:39Speaker 2: go all the time, and you know, and I was like,
- 15:42Speaker 2: I should have bought you a ticket to the ALCS.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Yeah I was because because you know, I went to
- 15:49Speaker 1: three of the four games down in Houston for the
- 15:52Speaker 1: twenty three LCS, including Game seven, which was probably my
- 15:55Speaker 1: all time favorite game that I've ever been to because
- 15:59Speaker 1: there at the end and there were not many fans.
- 16:03Speaker 2: No they had left, yeah they had, but I'm just
- 16:05Speaker 2: saying it was kind of funny. And you know, this
- 16:09Speaker 2: was for his birthday, and walking out, I really didn't
- 16:12Speaker 2: feel like I've felt ever because I just didn't realize
- 16:17Speaker 2: I'd never watched the Astros lose with him.
- 16:20Speaker 5: That's that's crazy.
- 16:21Speaker 2: So so now he can go back, right, Yeah, I
- 16:25Speaker 2: can go back. He's to beat everybody else he's ever
- 16:28Speaker 2: gone to watch the game there.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got you know, the what you call the app,
- 16:34Speaker 1: the stadium ap, you know, so it keeps track of
- 16:36Speaker 1: all the games you've gone to, you know, and so
- 16:38Speaker 1: you so, uh, I've got a pretty bad record against
- 16:43Speaker 1: the Astros except for those playoff games. So I've seen
- 16:47Speaker 1: the Astros win a lot of games against.
- 16:48Speaker 2: The Rangers, It's crazy because I remember a point in
- 16:50Speaker 2: time where the Astros couldn't beat the Rangers to save
- 16:54Speaker 2: their lives.
- 16:55Speaker 1: There was a yeah, there was, but that was a
- 16:57Speaker 1: lot of times when the Astros were really, really bad.
- 17:00Speaker 1: You mean, when they were taking when they were tanking
- 17:02Speaker 1: before they got great draft picks and they came the
- 17:07Speaker 1: dynasty and so but yeah, I go back to the
- 17:11Speaker 1: booting two V. It's like the way I kind of
- 17:15Speaker 1: look at it, like, yeah, okay, they cheated, but if
- 17:17Speaker 1: you're not cheating, you're not trying.
- 17:19Speaker 5: I mean, the baseball has been trying to steal signs.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I mean every team does that or did it before
- 17:26Speaker 1: everything was auto automated. So it's like, yeah, okay, they're cheating,
- 17:30Speaker 1: but I mean every team was trying.
- 17:32Speaker 2: If you had a way that Nelson Cruz would know
- 17:36Speaker 2: to catch that fly ball in the World Series, would
- 17:38Speaker 2: you take it?
- 17:39Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 17:39Speaker 1: I blamed that on wrong Washington, But what I'm saying is, yeah, yeah, absolutely,
- 17:44Speaker 1: I back him up. Sure if I if I knew so.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I've never booed any of the Astros players. No, never,
- 17:51Speaker 1: not one time.
- 17:53Speaker 5: But I feel like I'm a pretty educated baseball fan care.
- 18:00Speaker 2: A baseball fan you love the game.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Too, absolutely, and so you know the inner workings, and
- 18:05Speaker 1: like my kids know they are if they're with me,
- 18:08Speaker 1: they don't stand on that stupid wave. We're not going
- 18:11Speaker 1: to do the way.
- 18:14Speaker 2: It's not gonna happen. So I think they only did
- 18:17Speaker 2: it twice yesterday.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I'm not participating any time. Yeah, I will
- 18:23Speaker 1: say there was a cool I went out. I was
- 18:25Speaker 1: dating a girl. This is long long time. He was
- 18:27Speaker 1: back in college, right, and so I was home for
- 18:30Speaker 1: the summer, and she went to TCU and so she
- 18:33Speaker 1: lived out in Odessa, and so she invited me to
- 18:37Speaker 1: go out and spend this time with her family in
- 18:39Speaker 1: the summer. And so it was around the fourth of
- 18:42Speaker 1: July weekend. So we went to a minor league game
- 18:46Speaker 1: right out in Odessa and or Middle and I can't
- 18:50Speaker 1: remember which ones, but anyway, so they did the wave.
- 18:53Speaker 5: They didn't stand up, they.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Just all kind of waved their hands as it went
- 18:58Speaker 1: around the stadium. So I thought, okay, I can participate.
- 19:02Speaker 2: In that, participating that. Yeah, that's the only time.
- 19:04Speaker 5: That's the only time I've ever done the way.
- 19:06Speaker 2: That's good. I'm glad we don't do that. Cayle Field
- 19:08Speaker 2: either no, can.
- 19:09Speaker 1: You imagine or I mean heaving a bid. We do
- 19:13Speaker 1: it at Olsen, Bluebell.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Anywhere anywhere. All Star game, have all the All Star
- 19:20Speaker 2: games jump the Shark.
- 19:21Speaker 5: Now, yeah, it doesn't.
- 19:23Speaker 2: It doesn't carry pretty good, yeah, I mean, but well
- 19:29Speaker 2: the four when they went to the four team thing,
- 19:32Speaker 2: that was brilliant.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:34Speaker 2: They then they could have some national pride and hate
- 19:38Speaker 2: each other and play.
- 19:39Speaker 5: The NFL is a joke.
- 19:40Speaker 2: It's the flag football because you got hurt, you have
- 19:44Speaker 2: some people hurt.
- 19:45Speaker 5: Yeah, that's just dumb. I don't even know what I mean.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I'm sure there's still to be named to the Pro
- 19:52Speaker 1: Bowl team.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Yeah, because you get money for that, get your contract.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, but it's not a big deal anymore.
- 19:57Speaker 1: I haven't watched it since they he went. Yeah, and
- 20:03Speaker 1: then the NBA they don't play any defense, and it's
- 20:06Speaker 1: just like why, it's it's a joke.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Yeah, And.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I just think that since interleague play, when you get
- 20:17Speaker 1: to see every your team face every player.
- 20:20Speaker 5: So you see him play the.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Dodgers, and you see Otani, and you see him play
- 20:26Speaker 1: the Mets, and you see him play every team.
- 20:29Speaker 5: You see him play the Marlins.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I mean they've been playing the best in the National
- 20:32Speaker 1: League recently, and so you don't the All Star Game
- 20:37Speaker 1: when you and I were kids, you got to see
- 20:40Speaker 1: guys that you didn't get to see every day, no,
- 20:42Speaker 1: and so there was something kind of unique about it.
- 20:45Speaker 5: And you know, it went back because the.
- 20:47Speaker 1: National League for a long time they owned the American League,
- 20:50Speaker 1: and then the American League owned the National League, and
- 20:53Speaker 1: then and then they had the stupid thing about the
- 20:56Speaker 1: whoever wins the World Series going to have home field
- 20:58Speaker 1: advantage in the World Series.
- 20:59Speaker 5: That was really dumb.
- 21:02Speaker 1: But then this it's just half the guys who get
- 21:06Speaker 1: named to the team now they don't. They don't come
- 21:09Speaker 1: to the All Star Game, you know. So it's like,
- 21:11Speaker 1: especially like pitchers, you know, it's like you get named
- 21:14Speaker 1: to the All Star Game and the misz he You know,
- 21:18Speaker 1: if I was going to the All Star Game, I'd
- 21:19Speaker 1: want to see him pitch right right, Well, he's not
- 21:21Speaker 1: pitching right because he's hurt. Because he's hurt, and I just, yeah,
- 21:26Speaker 1: I don't think there's any thing fatigue.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Yeah, well, can you get a guy out throwing one
- 21:33Speaker 2: hundred and one instead of one hundred and five?
- 21:36Speaker 1: Yeah, you wonder when that guy is going to break down,
- 21:39Speaker 1: you know.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I hope he does it.
- 21:41Speaker 5: I hope he doesn't.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Either, because he is good for the game.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean, guys love to see you know,
- 21:49Speaker 1: everybody love to see triple digits, right, Yeah, you see
- 21:52Speaker 1: triple digits, you're like, oh, you know.
- 21:54Speaker 2: I remember seeing I remember John Stintson did it at
- 21:56Speaker 2: Baylor because they had triple digits on their scoreboard, and
- 22:00Speaker 2: at Olsen, the heighest that would go was be ninety nine,
- 22:03Speaker 2: so he might have he might have thrown a hundred,
- 22:05Speaker 2: you know, a bunch of times before we had any
- 22:07Speaker 2: game track or anything like that. We went to Baylor
- 22:10Speaker 2: and it went one hundred, and then he looked up
- 22:13Speaker 2: and his next pitch went one on one because it
- 22:15Speaker 2: was like, oh, they'll show that up there.
- 22:18Speaker 5: That's funny.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I hadn't heard it. I hadn't heard that name a
- 22:20Speaker 1: long time. Yeah, I remember John, that was that was fantastic.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Yeah, But I just I think that, you know, you're
- 22:28Speaker 2: exactly right about the NBA. But then again, if Bill
- 22:33Speaker 2: Lambert was an All Star, he wasn't gonna not play
- 22:37Speaker 2: you defensively.
- 22:39Speaker 1: You know. Yeah, back in those days that they there
- 22:43Speaker 1: was a little more pride in that.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't think the Lakers in the in the
- 22:47Speaker 2: Celtics guys were going at each other. Yeah, the Bird
- 22:50Speaker 2: wasn't acting like you know, I remember when Isaiah when
- 22:54Speaker 2: somebody said the Pistons will finally win win a playoff,
- 22:58Speaker 2: win games in the playoff, and Isaiah plays is tough
- 23:02Speaker 2: in the playoffs as he does in the All Star
- 23:04Speaker 2: Game because he was playing against.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Magic, right yeah, yeah, and then they.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Did and then they won, and that and and that
- 23:11Speaker 2: kind of went away because he didn't carry that around anymore.
- 23:13Speaker 2: But he won like two or three All Star Game
- 23:16Speaker 2: MVPs in a row.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Well, everybody remembers the iconic you know. Well, if you're
- 23:21Speaker 1: old enough, you remember Pete Rose running over the catcher
- 23:24Speaker 1: in the All Star Game, right, Yes, I mean that's
- 23:27Speaker 1: obviously that's a whole different level of the game meant something,
- 23:32Speaker 1: you know, Yes, I mean it really meant something. There's
- 23:35Speaker 1: now that obviously the rules are different, you can't do
- 23:37Speaker 1: that anyway, But they don't really care who wins the game,
- 23:41Speaker 1: Like last year, wasn't home run derby or something at
- 23:45Speaker 1: the end to decide. Yes, that's just stupid. I mean
- 23:50Speaker 1: I didn't even really. I like a lot of the
- 23:53Speaker 1: rule changes in Major League Baseball because it speeds up
- 23:55Speaker 1: the game, and especially you may not agree, because I
- 24:00Speaker 1: know you probably don't, but I wish college baseball would
- 24:03Speaker 1: go to the limit of throwing over two times or
- 24:08Speaker 1: just because that speeds up the game so much. I
- 24:11Speaker 1: love the the way the abs challenges are it.
- 24:17Speaker 2: It went as fast. I had seen it in sugar
- 24:18Speaker 2: Land last year, and it was so fast. I was like,
- 24:22Speaker 2: this is gonna be seamless.
- 24:24Speaker 5: Yeah, it's great.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I think it's It's interesting to me because I watched
- 24:30Speaker 1: a lot of games and the catchers seem to be
- 24:32Speaker 1: the best at it, right, yes, like they can recognize it.
- 24:36Speaker 1: The pitchers are the worst and the but I just
- 24:40Speaker 1: think the catchers are so much better than the hitters
- 24:43Speaker 1: that they did.
- 24:44Speaker 2: You were watching the game yesterday, Yeah, yeah, so it's
- 24:47Speaker 2: on the screen and I can't read it. How far
- 24:50Speaker 2: was that a ball? Because that would look to me
- 24:53Speaker 2: like it had been as close as I had seen them.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Did they get the number on the on when the
- 24:58Speaker 2: Rangers challenged it, they thought it was a strike and
- 25:01Speaker 2: it was a ball.
- 25:02Speaker 1: It was like you could like it was point one
- 25:05Speaker 1: point one literally you could not have put a dime
- 25:09Speaker 1: in between there.
- 25:10Speaker 2: It was.
- 25:10Speaker 5: It was amazing.
- 25:11Speaker 2: It was the closest one i'd see.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it was closest one I see because the computer
- 25:15Speaker 1: initially it came up red uh huh. But then when
- 25:18Speaker 1: they showed it, it was a ball, and so it was.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Like, that's as close as his bed.
- 25:23Speaker 5: That's a wild guess.
- 25:25Speaker 2: It's basically what that boiled out to.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Like even the Rangers nasal goes, whoa, that fooled the computer?
- 25:30Speaker 2: There you go.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Yeah, but it was.
- 25:33Speaker 2: We're fooled all the time. We're gonna run the break
- 25:35Speaker 2: and when we come back, we'll keep scatter shooting around.
- 25:38Speaker 2: But yeah, I was. I couldn't see the big the
- 25:42Speaker 2: big screen from where my seats were. They were under
- 25:44Speaker 2: on the background.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Don't you don't you find yourself as a fan going
- 25:47Speaker 1: step your hat.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Like in a college game, I watched the guy get
- 25:51Speaker 2: thrown out because he did that because he didn't like
- 25:53Speaker 2: the call uh huh, And he was smart enough to
- 25:55Speaker 2: the umpire and and it was by bye bye. Yeah,
- 25:58Speaker 2: we ain't got that here yet. I don't blame college tennis.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Next year is gonna have it.
- 26:02Speaker 5: I don't blame the up for that.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Yeah, but I find myself as a fan, going, come on,
- 26:06Speaker 1: you gotta tell that tap your hat.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Yeah, but they're already out of challenges.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Yeah, or or sometimes they don't want to blow him
- 26:14Speaker 1: to earth.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Yeah, there's you know your don Avarez doesn't challenge ever.
- 26:19Speaker 1: I don't think he that's because he never misses the
- 26:21Speaker 1: ball man.
- 26:24Speaker 5: He's playing the Rangers.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, let's run the break. Chip is gonna
- 26:29Speaker 2: come on. Now, he's gonna tell you about Who's he
- 26:32Speaker 2: gonna tell us about? Lake Walk? Okay, I can't read
- 26:36Speaker 2: his handwriting. That's Chip Howard. That's the doctor Howard coming

- 31:11Speaker 1: He was an old time cowboy, don't you all right?
- 31:14Speaker 2: Welcome back to Jip Arrot's Sports Talk here on a Monday.
- 31:17Speaker 2: One of the things that they have changed is we
- 31:21Speaker 2: used to see this during the College World Series and
- 31:23Speaker 2: now that they have it during the All Star break
- 31:25Speaker 2: is the draft, and the Aggies had some guys get
- 31:30Speaker 2: drafted that that we're going to go. They had a
- 31:32Speaker 2: couple of guys that they would wanted to get into school,
- 31:35Speaker 2: come to school. But as it is each and every year,
- 31:39Speaker 2: you know, Mark Johnson told me a long time ago,
- 31:41Speaker 2: I'll lose a guy I expected to keep it. I'll
- 31:43Speaker 2: get a guy I never thought i'd see on campus.
- 31:46Speaker 2: And but when you're playing the SEC, all of them
- 31:52Speaker 2: seem to have that. And that's why this league is
- 31:55Speaker 2: so good is because in this league, getting drafted after
- 32:01Speaker 2: the tenth round and you and you're guaranteed at maximum
- 32:04Speaker 2: one hundred and fifty thousand dollars. If an SEC team
- 32:08Speaker 2: wants to keep you, they can come up with one
- 32:10Speaker 2: hundred and fifty thousand.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Dollars, then yeah, they're gonna pay you more. Yes, that's
- 32:13Speaker 1: the thing about a lot of these kids. They're keeping
- 32:15Speaker 1: them longer in college because they can make that kind
- 32:18Speaker 1: of money. And you're getting kids who go to college
- 32:21Speaker 1: that could never afford to before, like I mean a
- 32:23Speaker 1: lot lower income kids and who couldn't afford they had
- 32:27Speaker 1: to go straight to the draft.
- 32:29Speaker 5: Well, now those kids can come.
- 32:30Speaker 1: To college now because they got a full ride. Because
- 32:32Speaker 1: they get a full ride and they're making money. And
- 32:36Speaker 1: there's kids on that a M roster this last year
- 32:38Speaker 1: that never would have played today in them because they
- 32:41Speaker 1: couldn't have afforded it. Yes, and so they would have
- 32:44Speaker 1: had the baseball players would have had to go, which
- 32:46Speaker 1: I think is great for the college game. And I
- 32:50Speaker 1: think a lot of teams are in major league teams
- 32:53Speaker 1: if they have a choice, and it's not clear that
- 32:57Speaker 1: this prospect is just really head and shows above what
- 33:02Speaker 1: they thought they might get, that they're going to go
- 33:04Speaker 1: with the college guys.
- 33:05Speaker 5: And I've seen that a lot.
- 33:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and the first pick obviously had that Grady Emerson
- 33:10Speaker 2: from up in Fort Worth and Chilawski from u C
- 33:13Speaker 2: l A.
- 33:14Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah. For Christian, he was he was really impressive.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, and went and transferred to go play for
- 33:21Speaker 2: Rusty Greer. I mean he was trying to set himself
- 33:24Speaker 2: up for that and get, you know, as good as
- 33:26Speaker 2: he could.
- 33:28Speaker 5: I like his interview.
- 33:28Speaker 1: He was obviously a Rangers fan growing up in Northwards
- 33:30Speaker 1: and Hills obviously, so so he's like, who do you
- 33:33Speaker 1: patting your game after?
- 33:34Speaker 5: Ian Kinsler? Okay, yeah, that's an.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Only Rangers fan would say Ian Kinsler. He said Sneaker
- 33:42Speaker 1: a little bit, yeah, but but really he said Ian Kinsler.
- 33:45Speaker 5: So that was like.
- 33:46Speaker 1: I was my wife and I were watching the drafts, like, yeah,
- 33:49Speaker 1: that kid grew up as a Ranger fan, no doubt.
- 33:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:52Speaker 1: But I was really happy to see Kopian, you know,
- 33:55Speaker 1: go not necessarily to Washington, but I mean he was
- 33:59Speaker 1: he had an injured season, but he still went with
- 34:02Speaker 1: the eleventh overall pick, and so good for him. You know, really,
- 34:06Speaker 1: I'm happy for him. Caden Surrell going to the Cubs.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I thought he'd go earlier, but you know, hey, he's
- 34:15Speaker 1: in a good spot in the Windy City and in
- 34:18Speaker 1: good organization. And I told you I was disappointed Gavin
- 34:22Speaker 1: Grohovich went to the Angels, but it is going home
- 34:25Speaker 1: for him, and so good for good for him.
- 34:27Speaker 5: I just Angels are.
- 34:28Speaker 1: An organization that just they're they're poorly run organization.
- 34:36Speaker 2: I don't I mean, not the tangent off of this
- 34:38Speaker 2: too much.
- 34:38Speaker 1: But yeah, they were good for so long, you know,
- 34:41Speaker 1: and ardi Moreno just started wasting money. And I look
- 34:45Speaker 1: back at some of the bad, bad decisions Josh Hamilton. Yes,
- 34:50Speaker 1: I mean it's just got an over pain like crazily well, yeah,
- 34:55Speaker 1: pooholes to overpay that was one of the worst contract now,
- 34:59Speaker 1: I would put. Oh, I've had some really good years
- 35:01Speaker 1: with the Angels, but the contract that he gave.
- 35:03Speaker 2: I don't know why that is. The Astros didn't went
- 35:05Speaker 2: to the American League. I thought was finally rid of
- 35:08Speaker 2: that guy.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I imagine watching that. Oh gosh, he had that
- 35:14Speaker 1: one home run against the Astros.
- 35:17Speaker 5: It is still traveling somewhere, right.
- 35:20Speaker 2: I tell you, and I and I don't know if
- 35:22Speaker 2: we've talked about it before I had. I was running
- 35:26Speaker 2: my recorder because they're covering that game. I was running
- 35:29Speaker 2: my recorder for the Astros to win the game, and
- 35:33Speaker 2: you can listen. You could listen to the tape and
- 35:37Speaker 2: it was from one hundred percent complete white noise. You
- 35:40Speaker 2: can't hear anything to silence except for the Saint Louis
- 35:46Speaker 2: fans that were down behind their dugout.
- 35:48Speaker 1: But that was two thousand and five, right, yes, and
- 35:51Speaker 1: the ass came back and won it. Yes, So I mean, yeah,
- 35:54Speaker 1: that they didn't do it in front of me, that
- 35:56Speaker 1: takes the sting out.
- 35:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I understand, yeah, yeah.
- 35:59Speaker 2: But it takes a sting But yeah, but you know,
- 36:02Speaker 2: maybe Gavin will be one of those guys that, you know,
- 36:04Speaker 2: change it around. I mean, who have they had that's
- 36:06Speaker 2: been talented. It's not like they had Otani and Trout
- 36:10Speaker 2: Oh wait.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Oh wait, yeah that's Soriano is like for that for
- 36:14Speaker 1: a while. He's leading the American League in e r RA.
- 36:17Speaker 1: So they still got some dudes, you know, but they
- 36:21Speaker 1: just seem like they're still pa.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Well, maybe he could go there and they'll be changing.
- 36:26Speaker 1: And they're the opposit of the Rays because the Rays
- 36:28Speaker 1: are they just seem like they just do so much
- 36:32Speaker 1: and they developed so much pitching and they can't afford
- 36:36Speaker 1: to keep them because no fans come to Tampa. And
- 36:38Speaker 1: the same with the Marlins. Marlin's playing great right now. Yeah,
- 36:42Speaker 1: but anyway back Jaggies. You know Shane Sedeoh, he had
- 36:45Speaker 1: terrible year, but you know now he gets to go
- 36:47Speaker 1: play in New York and Bear Harrison hopefully gets to
- 36:50Speaker 1: eventually play.
- 36:51Speaker 2: That wouldn't be great when they get to play each
- 36:53Speaker 2: other in the Subway Series.
- 36:54Speaker 5: Be fun if that would be fun.
- 36:56Speaker 2: And and somebody you know, was like, and Bear Harrison,
- 37:00Speaker 2: come catch us tonight for the Yankees, because our guy
- 37:03Speaker 2: is terrible. Well let's give him a little bit of
- 37:07Speaker 2: chance to to uh to get it together Weston masson
- 37:10Speaker 2: the eleventh round. And it's good to see him in
- 37:13Speaker 2: sadaeoh that their talent still got them drafted even though
- 37:16Speaker 2: their season, the numbers they had was very inconsistent.
- 37:20Speaker 5: Well, you're exactly right.
- 37:22Speaker 1: And so what I'm interested to see Cideo, especially because
- 37:28Speaker 1: he's lefty who's guy. As you know, he's got great
- 37:30Speaker 1: velocity and they just got to get that fastball moving right,
- 37:35Speaker 1: I mean it because there's it's dead center. It looks
- 37:39Speaker 1: like it doesn't move. And so these major league coaches
- 37:42Speaker 1: and and just to tweak here there. I just think
- 37:46Speaker 1: that that guy's got still potential, especially coming out of pen.
- 37:51Speaker 1: I can see him as a left handed, you know,
- 37:53Speaker 1: reliever for a long time if he can just get
- 37:57Speaker 1: that fastball moving, you know, I mean moving up and
- 38:00Speaker 1: down instead of just being on plane.
- 38:04Speaker 2: Can't be on plane right now.
- 38:06Speaker 1: It doesn't matter how fast you throw, if it's just
- 38:08Speaker 1: right on plane right.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Yes, Yes, Clayton fresh Corn goes in the nineteenth round.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Yeah, that's an indication to me that he's coming back
- 38:17Speaker 1: to Texas.
- 38:17Speaker 2: A and M, which would be huge.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Yes, I feel like that that's that guy.
- 38:23Speaker 5: If he.
- 38:25Speaker 1: If he wasn't coming back to A and M, he
- 38:28Speaker 1: goes a lot higher.
- 38:29Speaker 5: I just gotta believe.
- 38:30Speaker 2: That he had told he had gone through that telling people, no,
- 38:33Speaker 2: don't draft me. Yeah, And I think Saint Louis's last
- 38:37Speaker 2: two picks, the power hitting outfielder from Oklahoma State who
- 38:41Speaker 2: hit thirty one home runs, was a lot like fresh Corn.
- 38:44Speaker 2: They got to the spot where the top guy on
- 38:46Speaker 2: our draft board is this guy? Well, what, Well, he
- 38:50Speaker 2: may wake up tomorrow and not want to be a
- 38:51Speaker 2: college player anymore. Maybe today he wants to go back
- 38:55Speaker 2: to wherever and tomorrow. He doesn't, well, he has a
- 38:58Speaker 2: life change.
- 38:58Speaker 1: And so here's here's another was talking to God.
- 39:02Speaker 2: This shower, and he decided to go play running back
- 39:04Speaker 2: in Texas Tech.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Yeah, and some teams they've already spent in their mind,
- 39:08Speaker 1: they've already spent their budget by that time. Yes, so
- 39:10Speaker 1: there's no harm. They don't want to draft a guy
- 39:13Speaker 1: that they're going to have to sign. Yes, So, and
- 39:16Speaker 1: that's what this Baseball's and draft is about to get
- 39:19Speaker 1: even shorter.
- 39:20Speaker 5: I think, you know, he used to.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Go on and on and on.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Round yeah, seventy five rounds.
- 39:24Speaker 5: Ridiculous, But that's.
- 39:26Speaker 2: Why we never covered it.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Right now, there's some press for well, yeah, now you know,
- 39:30Speaker 1: at least the first two days are on TV.
- 39:34Speaker 5: And it's interesting because I've watched so many of.
- 39:36Speaker 1: These players like you have, you know, in colleges, and
- 39:39Speaker 1: so it's it's really interesting. But like, for example, the Rangers,
- 39:43Speaker 1: they they loaded up on high school players. The first
- 39:45Speaker 1: three picks for high school players, and to keep them
- 39:48Speaker 1: from going to college, they had to you know, pay
- 39:52Speaker 1: them a significant slot of them out right, So the
- 39:55Speaker 1: guy they picked in the third round, you know, the
- 39:57Speaker 1: short stop they picked in the second round was a
- 39:59Speaker 1: name and them commit and uh, you know they're gonna
- 40:03Speaker 1: have to pay him a serious amount of money to
- 40:06Speaker 1: not go to A and M, and so, uh, they
- 40:09Speaker 1: changed their Their Day two strategy was a whole lot
- 40:12Speaker 1: different because they spent that money. They'd spent that money,
- 40:15Speaker 1: and so they had a good draft. They drafted a
- 40:17Speaker 1: lot of seniors in college, yes, that don't have any
- 40:21Speaker 1: leverage and so but they got their guys that they wanted.
- 40:25Speaker 1: You know, the high school. The picture from from Florida
- 40:29Speaker 1: was just I mean he was righting high as number
- 40:32Speaker 1: eight on you know, the MLB prospect list, and so
- 40:36Speaker 1: he's sitting there at sixteen.
- 40:37Speaker 5: They're like, oh, we got to take this guy.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean we'll come to that number.
- 40:40Speaker 5: Yeah, and we'll come to that number.
- 40:42Speaker 1: We were five million.
- 40:44Speaker 5: They're gonna have to pay him, yeah, and they're gonna
- 40:46Speaker 5: do it.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Yeah. But well, the good thing is for the Rangers fans,
- 40:51Speaker 2: the Astros drafts stuck well. I took it well. In
- 40:57Speaker 2: the fourth round, they took a kid from Kansas short
- 41:00Speaker 2: stop that had been committed to the Longhorns, Okay, and
- 41:04Speaker 2: a third round pick Florida State's left handed Friday Night starter. Okay,
- 41:09Speaker 2: those two guys. I'm not gonna sit here and say
- 41:12Speaker 2: those guys were close to what their numbers should be,
- 41:15Speaker 2: all right. The guy from Texas Tech who hits home
- 41:18Speaker 2: runs in the Big twelve in the wind in love
- 41:21Speaker 2: it right, right, it's not even with the Crawford boxes.
- 41:25Speaker 2: It ainate Lubbock, right, Okay, they took they took a
- 41:31Speaker 2: guy from Notre Dame. A picture from Notre Dame with
- 41:34Speaker 2: a three and a half y r ray that they
- 41:36Speaker 2: come on and they tell me, well, he can't throw
- 41:38Speaker 2: the breaking ball away from the right handed hitters. What
- 41:42Speaker 2: good is he If you can't throw a breaking ball?
- 41:45Speaker 2: What good are you? So the Rangers meet the Astros
- 41:48Speaker 2: in draft. I'm gonna just tell you that right now.
- 41:51Speaker 1: We'll see how it all plays out.
- 41:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, because maybe none of these guys.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Even Yeah, that's the crazy thing. And so my wife
- 41:57Speaker 1: has asked me. He's like, these are just names, and
- 42:00Speaker 1: I was like, well, it's more than that. It's like
- 42:02Speaker 1: she goes, well, what do you know about Connor Kamu
- 42:05Speaker 1: or Camu? How do you pronounce that como como?
- 42:08Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 42:09Speaker 1: Okay, So I was like, well, I know he's coming
- 42:11Speaker 1: to am M.
- 42:11Speaker 5: I know it's a shortstop.
- 42:13Speaker 1: And he's really a big short stop six fours.
- 42:18Speaker 2: He's a good looking prospect.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Yeah, and I know there they feel like, you know,
- 42:22Speaker 1: they got to steal with him in the second round,
- 42:24Speaker 1: and so like, I love it. I loved it when
- 42:28Speaker 1: I saw the Texas prospects get selected early, the Texas
- 42:32Speaker 1: commits selected early, like the Longhorns. Yes, they're not going
- 42:36Speaker 1: to keep that guy right, Uh, he's moving on and
- 42:39Speaker 1: so but yeah, you just never know, especially when you
- 42:43Speaker 1: take a high school kid.
- 42:44Speaker 5: It's it's there's so much development, uh time.
- 42:49Speaker 1: But you know, the Astros, their dynasty was built on
- 42:53Speaker 1: a lot of first round draft picks and hitting the
- 42:55Speaker 1: right guys.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Yes, and they're saving money. They did a fantastic but
- 43:00Speaker 2: doing it and it's and it's a way to go,
- 43:02Speaker 2: and plenty of people who have done it since then.
- 43:04Speaker 2: The White Sox, the White Socks are in that right now. Okay,
- 43:08Speaker 2: the White Sox still braiding Montgomery and trading Garrett Crochet.
- 43:12Speaker 2: You sit there and say, well, this is a one
- 43:14Speaker 2: sided deal, except all four of those guys are in
- 43:18Speaker 2: the majors for the White Sox that they got for
- 43:21Speaker 2: Garrett Crochet. You have got to give the White Sox
- 43:23Speaker 2: credit for doing their homework and getting four major leaguers
- 43:28Speaker 2: for one pitcher.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and normally.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Doesn't happen that way.
- 43:32Speaker 12: No.
- 43:32Speaker 1: I mean the Rangers built their first World Series team
- 43:35Speaker 1: with the trade of the Braves Mark to Sheriff. Yes,
- 43:38Speaker 1: and they got four key players who were on the
- 43:40Speaker 1: part of that World Series that als Anders was a
- 43:43Speaker 1: short stop. I mean it was a key player for
- 43:45Speaker 1: them for a long long time.
- 43:47Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it hurt, you know, initially the trade Mark to Sheriff.
- 43:50Speaker 1: But that's what made them, you know, the team that
- 43:53Speaker 1: they were.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Yeah, they never boot to share though. You should cheer.
- 43:58Speaker 2: You should cheer Mark that he didn't want to re sign,
- 44:01Speaker 2: and you got those guys back for it.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Think you think they did boom Mark to Cher when
- 44:06Speaker 1: he went to the Yankees.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Yea, yeah, not with the Braves, not with the braces.
- 44:09Speaker 2: All right, we're gonna run to break chickspeare to come
- 44:12Speaker 2: on and tell us all about the great folks over
- 44:13Speaker 2: at Shorlty roofing.
- 44:15Speaker 12: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 44:17Speaker 12: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 44:20Speaker 12: I found Shorlty Roofing and point. I'm glad I did.
- 44:22Speaker 12: The folks at Shorlty guided me every step of the way.
- 44:25Speaker 12: They showed me my options, They told me what my
- 44:27Speaker 12: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 44:30Speaker 12: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 44:34Speaker 12: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 44:36Speaker 12: did all the clean up, and I had my new
- 44:38Speaker 12: roof in one day.
- 44:42Speaker 1: The Home by the Volley Roof.
- 44:46Speaker 13: Trip Becka through Brangers is the final game before the
- 44:49Speaker 13: All Star break and then fireworks.

- 45:21Speaker 13: Rangers do it again tied in the ninth, but this
- 45:23Speaker 13: time it's off the bat of Brandon Nimmo to get
- 45:25Speaker 13: the gatorade bath.
- 45:26Speaker 15: Here's the pitch on the ground, ball back off Hater's
- 45:28Speaker 15: club up the middle base hit, Here comes Langford and
- 45:31Speaker 15: the ball games over. The Rangers have walked off the
- 45:34Speaker 15: Astros on a sharp brown ball sing to let the
- 45:37Speaker 15: middle by Brandon Nimmo. Hayter just missed it. Had he
- 45:44Speaker 15: speared that ball, he likely would have caught Langford off
- 45:47Speaker 15: third base. He just didn't get the glove up in time,
- 45:51Speaker 15: and the Rangers have their fourth walked off fit three.
- 45:54Speaker 8: Of the year.
- 45:55Speaker 13: Rangers win six to five and take the series over
- 45:57Speaker 13: the Astros heading into the Midsummer Classics forty nine and
- 46:00Speaker 13: forty seven, which has them standing alone on top of
- 46:02Speaker 13: the AL West, a game and a half over the
- 46:04Speaker 13: Seattle Mariners.
- 46:06Speaker 2: Rangels will get a good.

- 46:52Speaker 1: I feel ties well enough, calling deep inside like my
- 46:56Speaker 1: heartstrung a deep break under staff up loan and it's.
- 47:00Speaker 8: Sharp and painful, but I may never shake.
- 47:04Speaker 1: You might say that I was taking it hard. Did
- 47:07Speaker 1: you vote me off with a call? But don't you
- 47:10Speaker 1: wait your That'll hide sorrow when I'm at right, right
- 47:13Speaker 1: down and ball. Now the race is on. In Here
- 47:18Speaker 1: comes Pride of the Back Sprints party.
- 47:21Speaker 2: All right, welcome back. We're finishing up the first of
- 47:25Speaker 2: a great week of shows. Here ceases in tomorrow. Cease
- 47:30Speaker 2: so we'll have cease on tomorrow. But uh, you know,
- 47:34Speaker 2: uh it's next week is SEC Media Days. College football
- 47:39Speaker 2: is next week? Is that crazy or what that is crazy?
- 47:43Speaker 1: I mean, it's really not college football until the players
- 47:46Speaker 1: report to me.
- 47:47Speaker 2: No, it's not it's media days. Uh okay, well, I
- 47:50Speaker 2: mean because you and I, You and I went to
- 47:52Speaker 2: Big tiel media days.
- 47:53Speaker 1: Yeah, for a decade, long time.
- 47:55Speaker 2: For a long time. I've never been to the SEC
- 47:58Speaker 2: one you know of Eventually they'll bring it back to
- 48:01Speaker 2: Texas and I'll go, you know, because now you know
- 48:04Speaker 2: we've got enough.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Well we got the Longhorns now and Oklahoma's close enough.
- 48:08Speaker 2: And Oklahoma's close enough, so now you can put you
- 48:12Speaker 2: know that Arkansas, Oklahoma, A and M in Texas will
- 48:15Speaker 2: if they do it in Dallas and Las Colinas where
- 48:18Speaker 2: we used to go to Big twelve media days, people
- 48:20Speaker 2: will show up.
- 48:21Speaker 1: I even went to Southwest Conference Media Days.
- 48:23Speaker 2: So I remember when they came here. That was my
- 48:27Speaker 2: first and only one time that they brought the caravan here.
- 48:30Speaker 1: So one year, this was probably early nineties, they had
- 48:33Speaker 1: it in Las Colinas. South was Conference Media Days, and
- 48:37Speaker 1: Homer Jacobs and I were down at the Galas and
- 48:40Speaker 1: Day News and so we came up, or one of
- 48:42Speaker 1: us would come up every year, and Southwest Airlines was
- 48:47Speaker 1: sponsoring the meal after the media right, and so randomly
- 48:54Speaker 1: end up sitting at a table and they said, hey,
- 48:56Speaker 1: check underneath your chair at each table, there's a voucher
- 49:01Speaker 1: for free Southwest Air Airlines pass anywhere, and so I
- 49:05Speaker 1: want it, and that was I just want Memori. I
- 49:10Speaker 1: don't want anything. So it was like shocking that I
- 49:12Speaker 1: want it, And so I think I used it to
- 49:15Speaker 1: fly to see an A and M game.
- 49:17Speaker 2: There you go. Mine was in Kansas City. I went up,
- 49:21Speaker 2: uh to Kansas City.
- 49:23Speaker 5: Kansas City. I was always there for for the basketball term.
- 49:26Speaker 2: Yeah, but I went went up there. It was a
- 49:28Speaker 2: great trip. Bo Carter got me and Cese and Tim
- 49:34Speaker 2: and uh probably John Werner tickets to the Royals cool,
- 49:44Speaker 2: which are real easy to get because they were terrible.
- 49:48Speaker 2: But it was Bucko Henry Jersey T shirt Jersey Night.
- 49:51Speaker 2: So I still have a Bucko Henry T shirt. And
- 49:54Speaker 2: I love Bucko Henry. I mean, that's a guy that
- 49:56Speaker 2: was just a baseball life for a wonderful guy.
- 50:00Speaker 5: I'm a big George Brett fan. Yeah, I love George Brett.
- 50:03Speaker 2: So but I'm sitting in there and we're about to
- 50:08Speaker 2: have dinner. I look out and Mike Leach is at
- 50:12Speaker 2: the bar across the street from the hotel by himself,
- 50:15Speaker 2: and then he comes over to come to dinner with
- 50:18Speaker 2: all the other coaches of the media.
- 50:20Speaker 5: That's doesn't surprise me.
- 50:22Speaker 15: No, it did not.
- 50:23Speaker 2: It did not, And that's when it's when Leach was
- 50:26Speaker 2: beating the crud out of the Haggies all the time.
- 50:28Speaker 2: So it was kind of like, well, there's a old
- 50:31Speaker 2: lumpy over there. And then it turned out to be
- 50:33Speaker 2: an institution.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, he used to back in the days
- 50:36Speaker 1: when I was doing previews for athlon, and I'm doing
- 50:40Speaker 1: for A and M Texas, Baylor and Texas Tech, so
- 50:43Speaker 1: all four Texas schools. I was doing the stuff for
- 50:46Speaker 1: athlon until uh Mac came into Texas and said, no,
- 50:51Speaker 1: I didn't want an Aggie rider covering Tech fair enough,
- 50:55Speaker 1: but text tech never never mind it. So Mike Leach
- 50:58Speaker 1: had arranged through their sports information department to talk to
- 51:01Speaker 1: Mike here.
- 51:03Speaker 5: So Mike would always leave me a message at three am.
- 51:06Speaker 1: Call twelve Man Foundation office three am and leave me
- 51:10Speaker 1: a message. And the messages were always fantastic. And he said, Hey, Rusty,
- 51:15Speaker 1: it's Mike Leaks calling you back. I wanted to order
- 51:19Speaker 1: some season tickets at three twelve Man Foundation and he said,
- 51:24Speaker 1: just got one request. I want to be put right
- 51:27Speaker 1: next to a really pretty co ed because I want
- 51:29Speaker 1: to score when the Aggie score, and I wanted the
- 51:33Speaker 1: guy with the big sword next to me because you.
- 51:36Speaker 5: Know how I like pirates.
- 51:38Speaker 2: That was so good and that is awesome.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Then another year he goes it was right after the
- 51:43Speaker 1: secret newsletter right came out and he calls and he said, Hey,
- 51:46Speaker 1: it's Mike Leach, call me back setting up interviews.
- 51:51Speaker 5: I just want to know if it's going to be
- 51:52Speaker 5: on the record, because I know how you Aggie's like secrets. Well,
- 51:58Speaker 5: good stuff is this league.
- 52:01Speaker 2: There'll be some fireworks obviously with Kiffin, you know, being
- 52:07Speaker 2: at LSU, and there'll be a lot of people in
- 52:10Speaker 2: the press that really maybe this will be the first
- 52:12Speaker 2: time they get a chance to talk to them in
- 52:15Speaker 2: the big room. We saw the consternation last week in Texas.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Tech wanted to talk to the commissioner. They had one
- 52:22Speaker 2: of their reporters that was just really upset, you know,
- 52:26Speaker 2: and use his chance in the big room to ask
- 52:28Speaker 2: a question that kind of went nowhere. I don't think
- 52:32Speaker 2: the SEC commissioner is going to have that, but Lame Mike.
- 52:35Speaker 2: He might have to talk to some Mississippi media that
- 52:37Speaker 2: he hadn't talked to since he left out.
- 52:39Speaker 5: Yeah, it's interesting.
- 52:41Speaker 15: Did you hear what.
- 52:42Speaker 1: Paul Finbaum said about the previous LSU coach.
- 52:47Speaker 2: No, well, what's Kelly? Brod Kelly?
- 52:50Speaker 5: Yeah, broke Kelly.
- 52:51Speaker 1: So he was at some media event this weekend. He
- 52:54Speaker 1: said he used to speaking to Brian Kelly for twenty
- 52:58Speaker 1: minutes each week. He would said, I'd rather have had
- 53:03Speaker 1: a colonoscopy on TV than have to do that again.
- 53:07Speaker 1: I was like, dude, can you be any more harsh
- 53:10Speaker 1: than that?
- 53:11Speaker 3: Man?
- 53:12Speaker 5: Man, that's pretty cold.
- 53:13Speaker 2: That that is pretty cold.
- 53:15Speaker 1: That is pretty It was out a med event, so
- 53:17Speaker 1: it was like, you know it's gonna get publicized.
- 53:19Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Brian Kelly might have called him and said, hey,
- 53:21Speaker 2: I got a colonosky. I can arrange for you. I'll
- 53:24Speaker 2: do it. Obviously the Aggies, Uh, there is expectation, but
- 53:33Speaker 2: it's on a year where you had as many drafted
- 53:36Speaker 2: guys as you've had in a long, long time. This
- 53:38Speaker 2: can be a really interesting year. I've seen the over under.
- 53:42Speaker 2: I saw some on the ESPN about teams that were
- 53:44Speaker 2: that that were had really good years last year that
- 53:47Speaker 2: are falling back at A and M in Oklahoma where
- 53:50Speaker 2: I think to eight and a half win through the
- 53:52Speaker 2: Aggies and seven and a half for Oklahoma just based
- 53:55Speaker 2: on who they were losing and that they have to
- 53:57Speaker 2: play the long Horns.
- 53:59Speaker 1: Well, but Michael go has proven then he's a great
- 54:02Speaker 1: evaluator of talent. And you know, the guys that he
- 54:06Speaker 1: got out of the portal will see what kind of
- 54:08Speaker 1: impact they have. A lot of those guys that got
- 54:11Speaker 1: drafted were guys that got out of the portal, and so.
- 54:16Speaker 5: Let's see.
- 54:17Speaker 1: You know, that's gonna be the nature of college football
- 54:20Speaker 1: moving forward. Obviously college back, all college sports is like
- 54:24Speaker 1: who can you get out of the portals year to year?
- 54:26Speaker 5: You really don't know.
- 54:28Speaker 1: Uh, you know, I read something I can't remember where Texa,
- 54:32Speaker 1: A and M had the ninth toughest schedule in the nation.
- 54:36Speaker 1: But there was only one school that wasn't an SEC.
- 54:40Speaker 5: School had top ten.
- 54:42Speaker 1: That's Ohio State, Like they had one of those kids,
- 54:46Speaker 1: right because they found a longhorse too, and this year
- 54:48Speaker 1: they play in Austin, right, So yeah, anyway, so they
- 54:52Speaker 1: were the only ones out of that top ten that
- 54:55Speaker 1: were not from the SEC.
- 54:57Speaker 5: And that's just the nature of the SEC. So I
- 55:00Speaker 5: would hate it.
- 55:01Speaker 1: I would hate, hate, hate to see and him fall
- 55:03Speaker 1: back to eight and four. I think they they needed
- 55:08Speaker 1: to at least be nine wins because you just want
- 55:11Speaker 1: to see Elko continue to elevate the program.
- 55:13Speaker 2: Because nine wins may get you in the playoffs. You
- 55:15Speaker 2: never know, certainly may. I still I don't think we're
- 55:18Speaker 2: at the point where an eight win team goes, but
- 55:20Speaker 2: it's probably right around the court. Sooner or later.
- 55:23Speaker 1: I mean, the the Aggies are going to beat the
- 55:25Speaker 1: long Horse. I mean it's it's especially in conversation.
- 55:29Speaker 2: My brother just got to see the Astros beat the Rage.
- 55:31Speaker 2: I mean, the Raiders beat the Astro. So you're exactly right.
- 55:34Speaker 2: Someday that worm turns.
- 55:36Speaker 1: Well, that's like him being at the stadium, I mean
- 55:40Speaker 1: if he watches game, No, him being in attendance.
- 55:44Speaker 2: And we've almost seen an Astro game every year for at.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Least the last decade, whether you're there or not, or
- 55:51Speaker 1: your bros there or not. Sooner or later, as they
- 55:53Speaker 1: need to beat the long Horse exactly.
- 55:55Speaker 2: Hey, rest, I appreciate it. Uh, that's a great show.
- 55:58Speaker 1: Today.
- 55:59Speaker 2: They a lot, and we'll have Chip come on here
- 56:02Speaker 2: and tell us about David Gardner's jewelers.
- 56:05Speaker 5: Hey, it's warm outside.
- 56:06Speaker 2: But it's cool at David Gardner's in more ways than one.
