- 0:00Coming up on this episode of The Spiro podcast.
- 0:04there's always going to be fear in the things that you want
- 0:06on the other side of fear so that that doesn't go away.
- 0:10There is no fearless there is just in spite of fear.
- 0:14And I think that that's something like as humans, like the human experience
- 0:17we're going to deal with no matter what we're doing,
- 0:18whether it's just business or our lives in general.
- 0:21Welcome to the Spiro podcast.
- 0:23Managing your real estate photography and videography business
- 0:28with your hosts, Todd Kivimaki
- 0:31and Craig Magrum.
- 0:35Hi, and welcome to the Spiro
- 0:36podcast, Managing your real estate photography and videography Business.
- 0:40Spiro is a software platform designed to help you manage and grow
- 0:44your real estate visual marketing Company.
- 0:47I'm Craig Magrum, host of the podcast.
- 0:48Welcome to Another Week.
- 0:50And as always, before we dive into things, as always,
- 0:54our co-host and owner and founder of Spiro, Todd Kivimaki.
- 0:57Welcome back. Todd.
- 0:58Craig, It's good to be back.
- 1:00We took a week off.
- 1:01We did. It's my fault. I'll take the blame.
- 1:04I had a wedding of my my oldest goddaughter
- 1:09down to Virginia, so we made a eight or nine hour drive down to Virginia.
- 1:14Yeah, I love the Appalachian area.
- 1:16Just the hills, the mountains.
- 1:17I told Gayle, my wife.
- 1:19We need.
- 1:20We need to retire in the mountains, in the hills.
- 1:23Do you hike, Craig?
- 1:25I don't. But if I had time, I probably would.
- 1:27I just.
- 1:27I love being out in the woods, so.
- 1:29I did hike part of the Appalachian Trail when I was in high school.
- 1:32Our youth and youth group.
- 1:33Yeah, our youth group did a service project in Virginia, right?
- 1:38Like, right on the Virginia West Virginia line.
- 1:40And one of the days we did some fun stuff and we hiked part of the trail.
- 1:44It was awesome.
- 1:45See, I don't consider that fun.
- 1:47Hiking is just hot walking.
- 1:49I don't I don't get it. I don't know why.
- 1:52Well, one thing is I almost look like a sasquatch
- 1:55when I'm walking through the woods.
- 1:56So that's the first thing.
- 1:58The second thing is, I just don't like being hot in the woods.
- 2:01There's. I don't know. It's just.
- 2:03I don't know.
- 2:04You guys all can roast me if you like to be out there. I know it's
- 2:06good exercise, and I need more of it, but hot walking is not for me.
- 2:10I like the scenery.
- 2:11Just something about the color green.
- 2:13Just calming, you know?
- 2:15I forget about everything.
- 2:17Anyway. Yeah.
- 2:18So, anyway, that's where I was.
- 2:19I was down to Virginia. Yeah.
- 2:21Yeah. Well, that's cool.
- 2:22I'm glad that you got to do that. We.
- 2:24We got some good feedback, I think.
- 2:25- I think, you know, - for me, being gone?
- 2:28Yeah.
- 2:29No, actually, the opposite.
- 2:31We had some people say, hey, like, I'm.
- 2:32I'm at my feed refresh and when, when's the next one coming.
- 2:35You guys are too kind.
- 2:37Like that is, that is to kind of like be waiting for the next episode
- 2:41for the stuff that we tell.
- 2:42I mean, kind of this crap we share with you every day.
- 2:44But it was it was fun.
- 2:47The last couple because like, we got to go back in time and at least for me, of
- 2:51like what it's like to be on the road and what you guys go through every day
- 2:55and just, you know, we understand what you do and yeah, yeah.
- 3:00So that was kind of fun.
- 3:01But thank you for those comments, you know, Billy Post and a couple others.
- 3:04- So thank you for that. - Yep, yep.
- 3:06Well, we have a special edition as those of you that have watched
- 3:10or listened for a long time.
- 3:11You know, from time to time we like to do what's called the Owner Spotlight series.
- 3:15And that's going to be this episode.
- 3:17We'll introduce our guest in just a minute.
- 3:19But before we get to that, Todd,
- 3:21any updates on Spiro that you want to share this week?
- 3:25Yes. So Spiro, we are chugging away with a lot of really cool updates.
- 3:28I'm going to send you an email.
- 3:29It probably got you by now, but we pushed out some nice
- 3:33UI/UX fixes
- 3:34One thing I'd just like to encourage
- 3:36everybody to go to is we do listen to you
- 3:39and we love to make adjustments that you all request.
- 3:42Now saying that we can only do them so quick.
- 3:46That's just development.
- 3:47We don't want to push too many too quick because then we break everything but Spiro
- 3:51spiromedia.featurebase.app you can get that that link very quickly
- 3:56if you're in your Spiro portal upper right hand corner, there's a feedback
- 4:00button, just click on that.
- 4:02The cool thing
- 4:02is, as many of you are in there, you can look at what other people suggest.
- 4:06You can upvote their suggestion or you can add a new suggestion.
- 4:11So that is kind of the home for feedback.
- 4:15And also the neat thing is, is once we have have it planned
- 4:18that update idea or when it's complete, you can see all in there.
- 4:22So that'll really help us.
- 4:24We love the feedback, we really do and we want to know what ideas
- 4:27you have to make it better and just use that board
- 4:31that helps us organize it and then it helps us understand
- 4:34how many of you want that feature and then we can work on those features.
- 4:39Can you give that URL again one more time?
- 4:41Yes Craig I would be happy to Spiro
- 4:43spiromedia.featurebase.app you can get to it
- 4:49or the the little button in your upper right hand corner that says feedback.
- 4:52Sometimes we get comments
- 4:53and feedback in the comments section on the YouTube channel, which is great,
- 4:57but that's not the spot we necessarily look at for feature ideas.
- 5:02So again spiromedia.featurebase.app
- 5:05or through your spiro
- 5:08portal if you have one All right which we hope you do because it's free
- 5:12yeah it’s free to sign up free to use it.
- 5:13I have some questions from you Do I have to use Spiro
- 5:15to use the merge fleet?
- 5:17The merge fleets are automatic video editor and no, you don't have to use
- 5:20Spiro.
- 5:20You can sign up for a free account click merge fleet
- 5:23and you can put test through for free.
- 5:25So just upload them click test run and we don't charge you.
- 5:30We don’t even ask you for a credit card when you sign up.
- 5:33You don't have to pre buy credits.
- 5:34A lot of you actually like, how do I buy credit?
- 5:35Like you don't have to
- 5:36we just bill you at the of the month so we trying to make it easy.
- 5:41Yeah we know what you're doing every day.
- 5:42We know how busy you are, especially this time of year.
- 5:45- We try to keep things simple. - Yeah, Yeah.
- 5:48Good deal.
- 5:48All right.
- 5:49Anything else you want to hit before we dive into this?
- 5:52Now, there's so much coming from our guests and let’s just,
- 5:55let's get past perfect all the niceties and onto the all the chit chat.
- 6:01Yes. Yeah.
- 6:02So our owner Spotlight series.
- 6:04So the idea behind this, for those of you that maybe have just started watching
- 6:08or listening, the Spiro podcast is is all about
- 6:11the business of real estate, photography and videography.
- 6:14There are so many great experts and resources
- 6:18out there on YouTube, on podcast sharing, a lot of creative ideas.
- 6:22You know how to compose your photos, how to shoot video,
- 6:25really good resources on the creative side of what we do.
- 6:29And we just thought we'd take a little bit different tact and talk about
- 6:32the business side because we can have all the creative skills in the world.
- 6:36But unless you have a good, solid understanding of how business works,
- 6:40your business might not last.
- 6:42So we wanted to provide just from our 20 years of experience
- 6:46and from others that have made a successful business,
- 6:49share that knowledge with you
- 6:51so that you can also have a successful real estate media business.
- 6:55So that's the idea.
- 6:57The Owner Spotlight Series is hearing from
- 6:59others of what has worked amazingly well and hear other stories.
- 7:03And so we're really excited this week to have a special guest with us.
- 7:07Her name is Colleen Kydd.
- 7:08She's the owner, along with her husband of Three Palms Media.
- 7:12Colleen, welcome to the Spiro podcast.
- 7:15Hi.
- 7:15Thank you so much for having me.
- 7:17I'm I'm so excited.
- 7:19It's cool because I listen every week, so I feel like I'm
- 7:22I'm just like inside, you know, my daily or my weekly routines.
- 7:26Oh, that's awesome.
- 7:28It's so great to have you on.
- 7:29I met Colleen out at the repp group's
- 7:33conference in Vegas last November, which is coming up again this November.
- 7:38So more details to come.
- 7:40But there is just this energy and this aura that comes from Colleen.
- 7:44Like she walks in the room and she takes it over
- 7:46and she lights up the world on a good in a good way.
- 7:49Like it's just like there's something different about Colleen.
- 7:52And she's just like, you gravitate towards her.
- 7:55So she's got a story to tell.
- 7:57She's got incredibly
- 7:58successful real estate media business that they grew very quickly, too.
- 8:01So Colleen, we're so excited to have you on
- 8:04and to share your knowledge and your story with our listeners.
- 8:09Thank you, Todd.
- 8:10That's so sweet.
- 8:11So we were talking before we started recording.
- 8:14Colleen, you're a fellow Buckeye with us.
- 8:17Yes, I am.
- 8:19Or at least a ridge, At least originally, right?
- 8:21Yes, originally.
- 8:22I grew up in Ohio.
- 8:24Now I'm down here in the sunshine, though I.
- 8:26I left you all
- 8:29my heart. It is my home.
- 8:30All my best friends are in Columbus.
- 8:32I'm there often
- 8:33Go Buckeyes.
- 8:36All right, So you are now down in the Fort Myers, Florida area, correct?
- 8:41Yes. So on the Gulf Coast of Florida.
- 8:43Awesome. Very cool.
- 8:44All right.
- 8:45So Three Palms Media, we always like to you know, let's
- 8:48let's get a basic introduction to your business.
- 8:52You know,
- 8:52how did you get into real estate media and how did Three Palms Media start?
- 8:56Yes.
- 8:57So we started our business.
- 8:59We got our LLC like August of 2022.
- 9:02So really not that long ago
- 9:05and I had always been interested in photography.
- 9:08I loved taking photos of families and people and I travel.
- 9:12That's when I really got into photography.
- 9:15And when I came back from traveling, I was like,
- 9:17I am doing something with the camera.
- 9:19Like that is what I'm going to do.
- 9:21I'm sick of doing my corporate job.
- 9:23It doesn't speak to me, I'm down with it.
- 9:26And so I started doing my family photography and then, you know,
- 9:29I met my husband and we got married and
- 9:32we really wanted to start a business together.
- 9:34And we were just trying.
- 9:36We were always thinking, what business can we start?
- 9:37What business can we start?
- 9:39I, I wasn't going to bring him into the world of portraits.
- 9:42It's just like not his.
- 9:43That's like a whole thing. It's not his style.
- 9:46So, you know, one day on Facebook just kept seeing Eli Jones,
- 9:50which is how I met Todd.
- 9:52You know, Scooter out on a scooter talking about real estate media.
- 9:55And I'm like, we do that.
- 9:58So my husband, I showed it to my husband.
- 10:00I'm like, I really think we could do this. You could learn this.
- 10:03And we just decided to go all in.
- 10:06So we like it was a decision.
- 10:08One day we were like, Are we going to do this?
- 10:09Yes, we are.
- 10:10Okay. We're going to give it 110%.
- 10:13Got the LLC that August and we just like
- 10:16immediately, like hit the ground running from there.
- 10:19And that's when it was that's when it was born. That was it.
- 10:23Awesome.
- 10:24So is there a story behind the name Three Palms?
- 10:28Yeah, there is, actually.
- 10:30So my parents moved down here to Florida in 2018.
- 10:34I was out of the country at the time, so when I got back
- 10:38they had moved down to Florida and my parents were obsessed
- 10:41with their new house that had three palm
- 10:43trees in the front yard and they call it Three Palms Resort.
- 10:47And so we all became very obsessed, three palms, three palms.
- 10:50I ended up coming down to stay at Three Palms and two days.
- 10:53And I was like, I live here now. I didn't leave.
- 10:56I stayed with my parents.
- 10:58I was like, This is where I'm going to live
- 10:59now, and met my husband, started the business.
- 11:01So when we were thinking of names, I was just like,
- 11:06Three Palms Media, like my family already just we just loved Three Palms.
- 11:09We already joking about making three Palms merge and
- 11:13Three Palms media was born and felt like it was.
- 11:15We didn't want it to be our name, like our our last name.
- 11:19And we want it to just be fun and kind of represent us.
- 11:23And so that that was it.
- 11:25Awesome.
- 11:26That is great.
- 11:27So. Colleen four So
- 11:30you started hit the ground running when in 110%,
- 11:33you tell the story better than I asked a question.
- 11:35So can you give us you know, I know your story, which is incredible,
- 11:39but I know there is transitions for both you and Tim.
- 11:42And that was like, so you're both had these corporate jobs.
- 11:44And for our listeners out there that might be getting into the media business
- 11:48right now are thinking they were you just less than
- 11:52two years ago that's crazy you've grown that much in less than two years
- 11:55but they were you then and there's all those feelings of
- 12:01it would
- 12:01be so exciting that if I didn't have to do my current job, it'd be so exciting
- 12:05if I could do something I love and own something.
- 12:09Can you?
- 12:09Maybe just give us
- 12:10take us back in time a few years and give us kind of leading up in
- 12:14and then just kind of those feelings and how you knew it was right
- 12:18and maybe you didn't and you how it worked out.
- 12:23Yeah, absolutely.
- 12:24It was scary.
- 12:25I mean, it's it's still scary sometimes when I think about growing my team
- 12:29and I think
- 12:30that's something that I've learned is
- 12:31there's always going to be fear in the things that you want
- 12:33on the other side of fear so that that doesn't go away.
- 12:37There is no fearless there is just in spite of fear.
- 12:41And I think that that's something like as humans, like the human experience
- 12:44we're going to deal with no matter what we're doing,
- 12:46whether it's just business or our lives in general.
- 12:48So I think I've gotten really close with that part of me,
- 12:53and that was something that I really like originally came from.
- 12:57It really does all stem back to when I lost my hair.
- 12:59I have alopecia for anyone who's not looking at me right now,
- 13:03so I don't have any hair.
- 13:04My hair fell out when I was 22.
- 13:06And it's crazy because when I look back, it's like
- 13:10there's so many lessons that I learned from that
- 13:13that have gotten me to the places that I am at now.
- 13:16And I'm so grateful for it.
- 13:17Even though I was it was so traumatic and devastating
- 13:22at the time.
- 13:23But I, I did this thing where I left
- 13:27my whole life and world behind and sold all my stuff.
- 13:30And I went and traveled and I just grabbed a backpack
- 13:32and I flew to Mexico and I said, I'm just going to travel.
- 13:35I don't know where I'm going to go next.
- 13:36And I really didn't know how long I'd be gone, but
- 13:39I ended up being gone for two full years, which is wild.
- 13:45Sometimes when I say it out loud, I'm like, was that you?
- 13:49was the me? but it was.
- 13:51and it was there that I think I just
- 13:55when you're alone for two years and there's
- 13:57no one next to you to help you make decisions,
- 14:00you really get familiar with yourself and everything that comes up
- 14:04you have to deal with.
- 14:05So when I got back from that, I was just really, really ready
- 14:10to do something that was my own.
- 14:14And so it took me all those things to to get there.
- 14:17For me personally, you don't have to go travel the world
- 14:21to be ready to start a real estate media business.
- 14:25But I think what I'm trying to say is I've always
- 14:29been somebody who's really trying to gain a deeper
- 14:31understanding of myself, and so that's what's helped my drive.
- 14:34But for my husband, it wasn't that way.
- 14:36But I think I just,
- 14:39you know, like, you know, when you just I think this is most people
- 14:42and it's definitely the people listening to this podcast
- 14:47when you just know you're meant for more.
- 14:49Like you just know like there's something inside of you.
- 14:52You know, you meant you're meant for more whatever that more is.
- 14:56And if you just let that eat away at you and eat away at you and eat away at you
- 15:01and you don't do anything about it, it gets really difficult.
- 15:05So I think I just was so fed up with I'm ready to actually do something.
- 15:10And that is where that burst of just energy came for.
- 15:13Like, we're starting this, we're making a decision and we're not looking back.
- 15:17And I mean, the best thing we did was hire a coach because there was a map
- 15:22and we just had to have like the energy and the willpower to do it.
- 15:26And the mechanics were all there.
- 15:28And we just were like, are we just you know, I think sometimes
- 15:33you're like, Well, I've been doing this for so long, I can't change.
- 15:36You can like it's literally never too late to be brand new.
- 15:38Like, it doesn't matter how old you are
- 15:40and you have so much more life to live than you think that you do and rest
- 15:46like you are in control.
- 15:47Like just turn the dial
- 15:49and you can really actually do anything that you want to do.
- 15:53So that was just kind of the thought process there for us.
- 15:55Colleen What I'm getting from this, something you just said,
- 15:58just punch me, punched me in the gut.
- 16:02You're talking about purpose
- 16:03like your purpose, the purpose of why you were created.
- 16:07You know, whatever your beliefs are around that.
- 16:09You know, Todd and I have been pretty open with our beliefs on that.
- 16:12But that that core drive of what you were meant to be, why you were born,
- 16:17your place in this world, and the impact that you can have on circles around you.
- 16:21So if you had to boil it down, obviously three palms media, real estate,
- 16:25you know, visual marketing is what you do, but that's not who you are. No.
- 16:30So can you tell us as a business owner, what is it?
- 16:36What is it that drives you?
- 16:37What have you discovered your purpose
- 16:39is that ultimately expresses itself in the business that you've created
- 16:43because you have to figure that part out first before you can really have
- 16:45a successful business.
- 16:46- Do you mind breaking that down for us? - Yeah, absolutely.
- 16:49And that is exactly, exactly key because I'm I run a real estate media business.
- 16:55But, you know, a lot of people like to say, Oh,
- 16:57I want to start my own business so I can have more time.
- 17:00But no. So right,
- 17:04no more freedom in the future.
- 17:06You can build that, but you're not going to get more time.
- 17:09But I the purpose for me
- 17:12is the leadership portion of it, and it is
- 17:18creating something and just
- 17:23being a leader.
- 17:24And like I think I gain a lot of confidence
- 17:27from running my own business and things like that.
- 17:30But and you don't have to have a team to be a leader either.
- 17:34I think you lead your clients and you lead your business
- 17:38and I just feel like I am.
- 17:41I am meant to have deeper relationships with people.
- 17:45I wasn't getting that in the corporate job and I'm like grew up in Ohio, but I'm
- 17:51I moved a lot growing up, so I never had like a true community.
- 17:56I don't really have somewhere where I can go
- 17:58when it's all home or I know everybody everywhere.
- 18:01And I think that I really wanted that and I wanted more of a sense of community.
- 18:05And I've really been able to develop
- 18:06that through Three Palms Media and through being a local business owner.
- 18:10So kind of being part of the community,
- 18:12being able to interact with people, inspire people
- 18:15and let people know that they can do whatever it is that they want to do.
- 18:18Like I'm able to do that through being a business owner because
- 18:22people can relate to that, whether they're in media
- 18:25or they're not, or they're just trying to do
- 18:27something in their life that's scary to them.
- 18:28It doesn't have to be a business.
- 18:30So I think I've really been able to lead people through being
- 18:34a leader in my own life because you have to lead yourself first
- 18:37in order to lead others. Yeah,
- 18:40that's really good.
- 18:41So. Oh, my goodness, Colleen, you are just so much good stuff in here.
- 18:45One thing that I want to rewind back to just briefly is that Colleen's
- 18:49that is there's there's no absence of fear.
- 18:53So if you're out there, you're at your job or you're driving or,
- 18:58you know, maybe you're driving the next appointment
- 19:00and you're at a different point in your journey of potentially
- 19:04or running a real estate media business.
- 19:07No matter what you do, there's always going to be fear.
- 19:11I tell the team all the time, if it was easy,
- 19:15everybody would do it.
- 19:18Life's not easy.
- 19:20Hard things are hard.
- 19:22So there's always going to be that fear there.
- 19:25And if you expect that, then you're not surprised by it.
- 19:31Yeah.
- 19:31And then when you're not surprised by it, you can handle it appropriately.
- 19:37You're not paralyzed by it or scared or angry or not emotional about it.
- 19:42And the other thing that Colleen's that I get goose bumps is you're
- 19:46meant for more.
- 19:47It's just on the other side of fear.
- 19:49It's just on the other side.
- 19:51And if you begin to expect that and you know how to handle it,
- 19:55you can get to more.
- 19:57And I think like that.
- 19:59So just exhilarating to think that you have that control.
- 20:03We all have that control and it's okay what you're feeling.
- 20:08And I feel, Colleen said she still has it every day.
- 20:11I have it.
- 20:11We all have it every day.
- 20:13There's decisions that come across my desk
- 20:14that come in the inbox, that come on the phone.
- 20:16It's like, Oh, that's unfortunate.
- 20:18How are we going to solve that gap?
- 20:21And it does get easier, like Colleen said.
- 20:24So I just want to point that out that there's always going to be that fear
- 20:28and what you want
- 20:29just on the other side of that, you just have to learn some skills.
- 20:33And like she mentioned, she got to coach the repp team.
- 20:36You can search them reppteam.com, they're fabulous.
- 20:40They have put a process in of how to do it.
- 20:44You could start with a book though.
- 20:46There's plenty of people out there
- 20:47that can teach you how to do this and how to gain these skills.
- 20:50So Colleen, how did you so okay, so our listeners are saying,
- 20:55okay, sounds easy.
- 20:56Todd So I've got this wall of fear right now, and you're saying, Hey,
- 20:59just get over it.
- 21:00Do you have any which is difficult.
- 21:03I don't want to simplify it
- 21:05because yeah, because that is a big that could be a really big thing.
- 21:08I can think back to some years,
- 21:10like I had some really big fears and I ran from them for a while.
- 21:13Do you have any insight to share with our listeners as to some techniques
- 21:18or what worked for you, like when that wall of fear was there
- 21:22and what
- 21:24made you want to start running towards and not away from it?
- 21:28Yeah, definitely.
- 21:29So it isn't easy.
- 21:31So it's like literally you're going to be battling yourself every day.
- 21:34Like every day you're going to wake up and you have to overcome yourself
- 21:38in order to be the person that you want to be.
- 21:41So it's not easy, but I love what you said about if you know it, you can expect it.
- 21:44And the way I say that is that knowledge is the precursor to the experience.
- 21:48So if you know what's going to happen, you can experience it in a different way.
- 21:53So doing things like being more mindful of it or getting a coach,
- 21:57somebody that's going to walk you through it was definitely helpful.
- 22:01But I think for me it was not running from the fear, like sitting with it.
- 22:06Like I think a lot of times when things that come up in our brain are hard,
- 22:10our brain is like designed to push
- 22:12it away, like our primal brain wants to keep us safe.
- 22:15It doesn't want us to change. It wants to keep us safe.
- 22:18So that's what it's going to do.
- 22:19And every day your brain is literally scanning the room
- 22:22for evidence that you shouldn't do something.
- 22:24So I think just just knowing that a lot of people don't know
- 22:28that, like, they literally don't know, like the human psychology
- 22:32or the science behind fear is that it's there for a reason.
- 22:36And, you know, if a bear pops up, like fear helps you right
- 22:39in your everyday life when you want to do the things
- 22:41to make you a better person, that is going to hinder you.
- 22:44So just the knowledge that like that is the human experience
- 22:48and that's what you're going through, that helped me like the foundation.
- 22:52Like, okay, I'm not crazy like this.
- 22:54Everybody goes through this.
- 22:56And because I know that now, I'm more equipped to understand it,
- 23:00recognize it when it comes up, talking about it,
- 23:04like find someone else is doing the same thing as you like.
- 23:07One of the best things about going to the repp
- 23:10conference was I got to meet people from all over the world
- 23:14really, but all over the country that are doing the same thing.
- 23:17And you find like the people you connect with
- 23:20and we touch base throughout the whole year and that kind of, Oh,
- 23:23you're going through that too. That's how you handle that.
- 23:25Like finding people that you can talk to about it.
- 23:28Like I'm scared about this and they can help with that.
- 23:34So I think that that has been really helpful, just kind of the knowledge
- 23:37that that is what it is and that it's not going to be easy.
- 23:42I don't know.
- 23:43You know, I think that's really helped me.
- 23:45And I also work with like a different coach that
- 23:49it has nothing to do with real estate media.
- 23:51He just kind of helps with mindset stuff.
- 23:54And that's something I'm so interested in.
- 23:55I've just kind of fallen into that.
- 23:57I love doing that. I love learning about that.
- 23:59So the more that I've learned about like ourselves and how we work,
- 24:03the better I am at overcoming it.
- 24:07Yeah, yeah, that's great insight and I think that's important
- 24:11that you understand what you're feeling is normal.
- 24:14You're not abnormal, just like Colleen said, like you're
- 24:18you have a fight or flight instinct.
- 24:21And you know that if a bear pops out in the woods, you better run from that.
- 24:26Well, you're not really supposed to run from a bear.
- 24:28But anyways, you know what I'm saying?
- 24:30Like you, something kicks in and you do something you weren't
- 24:34ever able to do with that adrenaline, that fight or flight.
- 24:37You were designed that way.
- 24:39But if you are, let's fast forward.
- 24:44I mean, how many of us run from bears?
- 24:45Not many more Craig does when he hikes in the woods.
- 24:48- Oh, but - and Todd doesn't because he's
- 24:51a sasquatch, so, you know,
- 24:57I had to slip that in.
- 24:59Oh, Craig, that’s so good.
- 25:02- Yes, Craig - Todd that doesn't run.
- 25:05He overpowers the bear.
- 25:08Okay, let's get this.
- 25:10Sorry.
- 25:11We're having this really deep insights from Colleen.
- 25:14I've never had to go through that, and I'm sorry.
- 25:17That's like a Chuck Norris joke.
- 25:18Don’t start me on those.
- 25:23Okay. Okay.
- 25:24So the way that the way that my coach explained to me
- 25:28is very similar to the Colleen's coach.
- 25:31If if it if back in the day,
- 25:35if a bear was chasing you're a lion chasing, you need to run.
- 25:38And that fight or flight is normal.
- 25:39But fast forward to 2024, you're probably sitting in your car or you're inside air
- 25:44conditioning right now, climate control, you might have a hot or cold drink.
- 25:48You might be very comfortable in a chair and you have a problem
- 25:52that comes your way.
- 25:53Okay, That fight or flight is going to kick in.
- 25:56But you you need to understand that.
- 25:58You don't have to
- 26:00give in to it.
- 26:01You need to learn ways to adapt to it.
- 26:04And knowledge is power.
- 26:05I love that.
- 26:06Colleen, what you said that the precursor,
- 26:09but if you expect it coming,
- 26:12you can now suppress it and understand that that is
- 26:15just your natural body's reaction, your body's natural reaction.
- 26:19Excuse me.
- 26:20And from there you're like, okay, it's not I'm not too bad.
- 26:23Like, my coffee is still warm.
- 26:26It's 70 degrees in here right now.
- 26:27I'm comfortable in a chair like I'm the world's not going to end because
- 26:33I'm thinking about quitting my job.
- 26:35I lost a client.
- 26:36I don't know how I'm going to grow business.
- 26:38I'm how do I hire?
- 26:39How do I grow the world won't end because of those things.
- 26:43And just understanding that is incredibly important and really good.
- 26:49Really good.
- 26:49information,
- 26:51given Colleen, of just understanding that that is the first step moving forward.
- 26:55Yeah, I think so.
- 26:56And in something more tactical, if you just spend a few minutes
- 26:59every morning kind of visualizing what you want in your life,
- 27:03you're going to if you go there in your mind.
- 27:05So think of whatever it is you want the most.
- 27:07Think about it. Go there in your mind.
- 27:09Your brain doesn't really know the difference on
- 27:11if that's actually happening or not. When you're thinking about it,
- 27:13you will feel those like that joy in those emotions.
- 27:17And I think that that really
- 27:19if you do that a little bit every day, that just kind of helps
- 27:22give you that gas and that power to go out and do those things that day
- 27:27when you're actually like visualizing the person that you want to be.
- 27:30So it actually works.
- 27:32So you could always try that too.
- 27:35And it just kind of gives you that little extra motivation,
- 27:37kind of gets your brain right for the day
- 27:39more clear, and then you can go off and you can accomplish
- 27:42the task you need to accomplish
- 27:43in order to get to that feeling of where you want to be?
- 27:46So let me let me jump in here.
- 27:48I like to I love, you know, high esoteric ideas and great philosophies.
- 27:54Which this is all is in mindsets and and whatnot.
- 27:59But for the person that's just getting into real estate media,
- 28:02or maybe is only a year or two old like yourself.
- 28:04Colleen,
- 28:06the market what let's take these,
- 28:08these awesome ideas and then put some practical application.
- 28:12So as you're leading yourself, as you're stepping
- 28:15into leadership and having this, this positive mindset as a newer company
- 28:20in a large market, Fort Myers is not a not a small market.
- 28:25I'm guessing that in 2022, when you started,
- 28:28there was already some other companies established in the market.
- 28:32So one of those fears that that we naturally have is am I going to survive?
- 28:36Can I make this go So can you take like some of
- 28:39what you've just talked about and give us some practical, practical application?
- 28:43And how can I get started
- 28:45if I'm just starting a new business or just a year or two into it?
- 28:49In a market with established competition, what are some practical ideas or steps?
- 28:54You know, say one, two, three steps I can take to start to live out
- 28:58that leadership, that positive attitude in in the confidence
- 29:02that you have to make this this business go.
- 29:05Excuse me, Does that make sense?
- 29:07Yeah, that absolutely makes sense.
- 29:09There's a ton of companies here and there's some really big ones here.
- 29:13And that did you know, I did have that same fear.
- 29:17Okay, well, how are we going to build a business
- 29:19to the scale that we want to build it when there's already big, big guys in town?
- 29:24But I just put my trust in other people.
- 29:27They said, it doesn't matter, just do it. Anyways.
- 29:29I'm like, All right, I'm going to do it anyways.
- 29:30And something that we did, and this is what I tell realtors too,
- 29:33when they're trying to make themselves stand out
- 29:35because there's like a bajillion realtors in
- 29:38and they all do the
- 29:39same thing, just like all of us media companies do the same thing.
- 29:42The only thing that separates you literally,
- 29:44the only thing that separates you is who you are as a person.
- 29:47And so that is what we led with.
- 29:51That is still what we lead with that happened.
- 29:54That's a strength of ours too.
- 29:55I understand who I am and I knew I could lead with that.
- 29:58So our personal brand we knew was going to make us stand out.
- 30:03So how we actually implemented that was
- 30:06we put our faces on social media.
- 30:08You will see us talking.
- 30:10They know who we are.
- 30:11There's a little, you know, bubble that's tagged at the top of our profiles
- 30:16that pinned of who we are, kind of what what you can expect
- 30:20from us, things like that.
- 30:21And I showed up to every single in-person event that
- 30:24I could ever find, which I know is scary for people that don't like to do that.
- 30:28Craig I know that.
- 30:30And but that was a strength of our.
- 30:34I leaned into that.
- 30:35So I think like, honestly, like knowing yourself,
- 30:37knowing where you're going to be best at,
- 30:39like how are you going to stand out in full force, Go into that.
- 30:42For us, it was our brand, our personality.
- 30:44I've seen other people in the community
- 30:47that are like super creatives and they'll lead with that.
- 30:51Like they'll just have very creative things
- 30:53and that's what really makes them stand out from some of the bigger guys
- 30:56because they were just doing, you know, this and that.
- 31:00But we went to everything
- 31:01and we literally got a virtual assistant like, right away.
- 31:05And I said post every day.
- 31:08And I think that really helped because when when we already
- 31:11I mean, people like trying to create a relationship and they go to our page,
- 31:15they're actually seeing that we're doing stuff.
- 31:17You would if you scroll all the way back,
- 31:18you see my parents, I was like 19 times, like just different rooms.
- 31:22Like I didn't mean we were doing business.
- 31:24We it took us forever
- 31:25to get our first client, like, forever to get our first client.
- 31:29But we kept going.
- 31:31But I think, you know, really leading with that is what helped us stand apart.
- 31:36And then also I still see a lot of people that don't have systems in place.
- 31:41You can't book online.
- 31:43You can't book for an exact time.
- 31:45You're not going to get the media back the next day.
- 31:47So implementing those things, but not just implementing them,
- 31:51letting people know which is where like the social media comes in.
- 31:55And then definitely you need to do the video too,
- 31:58because there's a lot of people here and we get clients so many times, so much
- 32:03that say, Oh, we loved our last photographer, but they didn't do video
- 32:07or it was so hard to get a hold of them and I couldn't book online.
- 32:11We've gotten so much business from that.
- 32:14So I think those are a couple.
- 32:16Understanding yourself, leading with whatever makes you different,
- 32:19and then really putting in those systems and processes and letting people know.
- 32:23And I would say hiring a VA as soon as you can, it's really not that expensive.
- 32:27We hired a VA
- 32:28that was very inexpensive because she didn't really have much experience
- 32:32because we didn't have any money when we started.
- 32:34And I just put in the time and effort to train her
- 32:37and now she's like the world's best VA and it's been the best thing ever.
- 32:40So I think like really believing in yourself
- 32:44and going all in despite like what your brain is telling you to
- 32:47is going to help you, like,
- 32:49get to the next step because most people are going to be scared.
- 32:53So don't be nervous trying not to
- 32:57great advice.
- 32:59Colleen, one thing you said is about is going all in.
- 33:01Can you maybe because there's different levels of that and I know
- 33:04it was a little bit different for you versus Tim and kind of your guys's growth.
- 33:09Yeah.
- 33:10Can you talk about the like
- 33:11so if someone's listening to this right now, should they just quit and start or
- 33:15what if they, you know, can you talk about the kind of the time frame
- 33:19and what that was for you guys and what you would suggest for our listeners?
- 33:23Yes, great question.
- 33:24By go all in,
- 33:25that did not mean that we quit our jobs and went all in that first day.
- 33:29Although if you want to light a fire that that does work.
- 33:35But when we said all it, it meant, okay,
- 33:38we are going to alter our life so that we can go it all in on this.
- 33:43We're going to keep our jobs because we need the money,
- 33:46but our free time is now going to go less to ourselves, less to our friends
- 33:52and family for this short, you know, time, because we really do want to do this.
- 33:57And we are the type of people that are just going to go guns blazing.
- 34:03So going all in,
- 34:04just meant, we got the Eli Jones course.
- 34:08We followed it. We did not
- 34:11we did not feel that we were special in any way, shape or form.
- 34:15We followed that that advice, and then we believed in ourself that we
- 34:20could do it.
- 34:21And we worked on weekends and there were some late nights
- 34:25and we just really, really did go all in and just like
- 34:31only about Three Palms Media
- 34:33outside of our corporate jobs, that was our choice.
- 34:36That's how we wanted to do it.
- 34:38And so I said, we got our LLC in August.
- 34:41Tim quit his job like mid-February.
- 34:44He was the one to quit his job first.
- 34:46He was the shooter mostly.
- 34:48I didn't really shoot.
- 34:49I just kind of ran the business and my job
- 34:53had better the benefits, so we kept my job.
- 34:57But when Tim quit, I think that our January month was maybe like
- 35:02four or $5,000 that we had gotten to with him working full time.
- 35:07He was lucky enough to work in retail, which is a tough job,
- 35:11but he had some flexibility there.
- 35:13It wasn't a 9 to 5, so he could kind of squeeze in some mornings.
- 35:17We worked Saturdays, we worked Sundays.
- 35:19That was just our choice.
- 35:21We were able to get up to like maybe four or $5,000.
- 35:24And then we said, if we
- 35:26just have Tim quit his job
- 35:28and he has an open schedule, we know that we can do more.
- 35:32Like we know we can get more business.
- 35:34So it was just a decision of, okay, we're going to pull it.
- 35:37And then I tortured myself for months
- 35:39over quitting my job and I let fear get in my way.
- 35:42And I didn't quit until October, when I should have quit earlier.
- 35:46And I was really trying to hang on to December.
- 35:48I wanted my bonus.
- 35:50I made more money quitting and going all in than I did waiting for my bonus.
- 35:55So we let I let fear really hold me back because it gets me
- 35:59it still gets me, you know. But I get better each time.
- 36:02Colleen, I love what you're sharing because I'm a lot of what you've shared.
- 36:06I've.
- 36:06I've gone through myself already,
- 36:08but you're reminding me of some things I need to keep in mind.
- 36:12So thank you for preaching at me.
- 36:14I needed needed that.
- 36:18You're welcome.
- 36:20All right, Todd, you take it from here.
- 36:22Colleen.
- 36:23Just incredible stuff.
- 36:24So I have to fast forward a little bit here because I know your story.
- 36:28I want our listeners to hear it.
- 36:29And so Tim quits February about six months later.
- 36:33You follow.
- 36:34You're kind of like, Yeah, I waited too long.
- 36:36So now you're focused on it.
- 36:38Like, okay, so now there's no safety net.
- 36:41It's just Three Palms Media.
- 36:43So you've gotten over that. You've done it. Yay!
- 36:46Like what now?
- 36:47Like it's like, okay, we have this time.
- 36:49Yes. So I quit in
- 36:51October and it was like such a sense of freedom.
- 36:55But it was also, again.
- 36:56All right, we are literally in our own hands now.
- 37:02So again, it was just
- 37:04we reinforce that we are all in.
- 37:07And so we just really help kept building
- 37:13and strengthening our client relationships.
- 37:17Our referrals started to really take over.
- 37:19And again, I think the fear got in the way.
- 37:21We did not hire soon enough, like we did not hire soon enough.
- 37:24We hired our first guy
- 37:27maybe in September and Tim was doing,
- 37:30I don't know the exact number, but it was something wild.
- 37:32It was like over. It was like just over 30 grand a month.
- 37:35And he was the only
- 37:37photographer and we were just drowning like we were.
- 37:41We were working like too much.
- 37:44We were working too much.
- 37:47So we were like, okay, we have to hire.
- 37:49And so we went out and we hired our first guy,
- 37:53which was scary, but we just we were like, How do we hire?
- 37:55What are the legal stuff behind that?
- 37:57Like offer letters?
- 38:00That was overwhelming.
- 38:01But I was like, okay, other people who did this, I can do this one step at a time.
- 38:05What's the first thing I need to do? Okay, check.
- 38:07What's the second thing I need to do? Okay. Check.
- 38:09Relied on some other people that I knew that had businesses elsewhere.
- 38:12They helped me through it too.
- 38:14We hired this individual.
- 38:16He was great, but he didn't work out like our first hire did not work out.
- 38:20We had to let him go,
- 38:23which literally it would
- 38:24Todd, was probably coaching me on that at the repp conference last year.
- 38:27I'm like, I can't trust this guy.
- 38:28I just don't think it's right. Like it's not right in my gut anymore.
- 38:31And it was just or was just like, You just got to let him go.
- 38:34And that's tough, right?
- 38:35I don't want to do that.
- 38:36I love, like, helping people, empowering people.
- 38:39But it was the best thing for him and for us.
- 38:42So we learned a lot from that.
- 38:44And then we went out and we hired again and
- 38:48we hired Julianne. He's a rock star.
- 38:50He's on our team still, and we just kept seeing his schedule fill up.
- 38:56Okay, we got to hire again, Hire again.
- 38:59And now we've got four or five team members out there running around.
- 39:04We just expanded a little further north, hired somebody who can reach
- 39:08a little bit north because our clients kept asking us about further north,
- 39:12and that has been awesome.
- 39:14I've loved it.
- 39:15We like it,
- 39:16leans into the things I love again, like I love people in relationships.
- 39:20Been able to build a team culture?
- 39:23Well, we'll have in-person team meetings.
- 39:25We have one on ones, things like that, and we're really getting to know
- 39:28these people on an individual level
- 39:29and like helping them be the best version of themselves
- 39:32makes them the best employee, which makes Three Palms Media best.
- 39:35They feel great.
- 39:37I feel great.
- 39:37It's like a win win all around.
- 39:40And we still we still need to scale like
- 39:43I'm still feeling that that fear of like, I know we can hire more.
- 39:47How far do we push?
- 39:49What are the numbers?
- 39:50Tell me, do we just go for it?
- 39:53You know I hate to see the profit shrink, but I know it's
- 39:55because we're in hypergrowth and it's all of these things.
- 39:58But my gut is just telling me, Keep going, keep pushing, keep pushing,
- 40:01keep pushing.
- 40:03And so that's what we've we've led with.
- 40:05And so that's that's where we're at.
- 40:07And it's been difficult.
- 40:09We've learned a lot. The hiring part is difficult.
- 40:11Getting those systems processes in place, having people rely on you.
- 40:15We're able to get Tim
- 40:16primarily out of the field right now, which is better in the last five weeks,
- 40:20which is has gone well and so that is where Three Palms Media is headed.
- 40:25That's awesome.
- 40:26But let me ask another practical application
- 40:29we've getting Tim out of the field.
- 40:31How have your clients reacted?
- 40:32Because the photographer develops a relationship with the realtor, right? Yes.
- 40:37So how is that gone?
- 40:38How have you handled that?
- 40:39Because I'm sure you probably have some clients
- 40:41that have said, well, no, I want Tim shooting.
- 40:44Totally.
- 40:45We totally have because we were so strong on the relationship front and now
- 40:49we were like, ba bye.
- 40:53But since we were so strong on the relationship part,
- 40:56we just have to like when we're honest with people,
- 40:59we just have an honest conversation.
- 41:00Our clients do love us right.
- 41:02That's the culture we've created.
- 41:05Hey, client, you know,
- 41:07Tim is going to be stepping back.
- 41:09These are our goals.
- 41:10These are our plans for our family and for Three Palms Media.
- 41:13You know, we trust this individual.
- 41:15Do you trust us? You do.
- 41:17Then you should trust this person as well.
- 41:19So that's kind of how we've put it.
- 41:23And then the best feeling ever is
- 41:24when people have started to request our employees
- 41:26it's like, yeah, every single one of my employees has been requested.
- 41:30Now they're like, Oh, we love so and so.
- 41:32And as you grow that,
- 41:33some people don't even know Tim now, you know, So it is getting over that hump.
- 41:37But I've always just felt like
- 41:39I just want to have an honest conversation with our clients.
- 41:41And honestly, if that doesn't work for them, then that's okay.
- 41:44They can leave. And I had a hard time with that.
- 41:47Todd, which I know.
- 41:47You you've talked about like I would really take it to like personal heart
- 41:52when like a client left or are use somebody else
- 41:55It would like literally a break my heart.
- 41:58But I've tried to be better about knowing
- 42:02that like there's going to be that in order for us to grow.
- 42:06And so keeping my eye on the bigger picture
- 42:08and just understanding that certain clients,
- 42:10they just want that cozy little relationship.
- 42:12And I get that. I totally get that.
- 42:15But it doesn't align with our goals.
- 42:16And so I have to just like breathe in and let that go.
- 42:19Yeah, it's really good insight
- 42:22Yeah. That's such good insight.
- 42:23Again, that's another one of those if, if you know what you can expect.
- 42:26I for a long time had the idea that we never lost a client
- 42:32like I was this proud owner individual and I was just like,
- 42:36I'm going to shoot for him and then Ryan's going to shoot for him.
- 42:38And like, we're never going to lose a client.
- 42:40Like, I'll keep them forever.
- 42:42And like,
- 42:43my ego just got in the way and I kind of did one of these blindfold things.
- 42:48You just plow forward and we are growing.
- 42:50And as you grow in scale,
- 42:54you have to focus on those relationships.
- 42:56Colleen said the word relationship a lot.
- 42:58This I would second it that it's the most important thing in your business.
- 43:03And not only just she didn't even just she didn't only say it with clients,
- 43:07with her VA, with her team relationship.
- 43:11Her and Tim work together, relationships are key and everything you do.
- 43:17And if you want to be successful
- 43:18at business life, anything, focus on those relationships.
- 43:21It takes time.
- 43:22It's not easy. You can't write, you can't write.
- 43:24You can write a check for a lot of things.
- 43:26You can't write a check and make relationship better.
- 43:29Long term, you just can't.
- 43:32No one can ever work it takes just.
- 43:35But I love that part.
- 43:36Like the relationship with my VA.
- 43:39I've poured so much into her.
- 43:41She has poured so much into us.
- 43:43She's made such a difference in our business.
- 43:45Like we're going away this summer for three weeks for the first time ever.
- 43:49We're leaving our business for that long.
- 43:51And like my VA is interim CEO.
- 43:54Like whem I’m gone.
- 43:56Eventually I'm going to hire an admin and whatnot,
- 43:59but for now, she is interim CEO.
- 44:02But I love her.
- 44:04I've gotten to know her.
- 44:06She's worked so hard that I've helped make some of her dreams come true.
- 44:11My favorite story is getting her to the Taylor Swift concert
- 44:14in Singapore like she got on a bus, a plane, a train for the first time
- 44:18out of her village, went to Singapore, got to live her dream.
- 44:22Seen Taylor Swift in concert.
- 44:23And like that man, that was worth everything that I've ever done.
- 44:28Like, that's awesome. That was amazing.
- 44:31But the same thing with our employees here.
- 44:33Like, we had one on ones all last week and just we really got to know them.
- 44:37I mean, there was I think people really
- 44:40like to be seen and heard and value and and so when you give them that experience,
- 44:46not only does it give you deeper meaning and purpose, but it just makes everything,
- 44:50everything better and stronger
- 44:53Our guest if if you're just starting to listen
- 44:56well, first rewind and listen to the beginning.
- 44:58You say rewind, right? If you're jumping into this battle.
- 45:01Our guest is Colleen Kydd,
- 45:02co-owner of Three Palms Media in the Fort Myers, Florida, area.
- 45:06Colleen, this has been awesome.
- 45:08Thank you for for sharing your heart and just the things that have inspired you
- 45:12to go forward with with your hyper successful business.
- 45:17If if there was one thing I always like to ask this question,
- 45:20if there's one thing that you could tell a listener or viewer right now
- 45:25that is either just getting started, well, I guess this is two different things.
- 45:28Either just getting started
- 45:30or is hitting a point where they're having to make a decision.
- 45:33Yeah, these are two different questions. Okay.
- 45:35Let's let's start with the person just getting started.
- 45:38What's the one best piece of advice you would give to that person
- 45:42just getting their business off the ground?
- 45:44I would say that
- 45:48really,
- 45:49really find a way to believe in yourself that you can do it.
- 45:54So take that time with yourself, take inventory of yourself
- 45:58and find that core self-belief, because that is really what's
- 46:01going to carry you and just lead with faith instead of fear like faith
- 46:07that things are going to work out because they will.
- 46:10Like when you can lead with faith
- 46:13and put your your trust in the future,
- 46:16those things are going to happen because what you focus on
- 46:21is what you feel and it's where you're going to go.
- 46:23So if you're always focused on being scared
- 46:26or fear, it's not going to work out, those things will happen.
- 46:29Like you will predict the future.
- 46:31So you have to like, lead with faith.
- 46:33So that's what I would say for anybody is just getting started.
- 46:36And anything anything that's going to be a change for them
- 46:40is like that to the depth that you know and understand
- 46:43yourself as to the depth that you can make impact into the world.
- 46:47So having that foundation is really going to carry you through through anything.
- 46:51That's awesome.
- 46:52Okay.
- 46:53Then part two for the person that has gotten their business
- 46:56going and has hit kind of a wall
- 46:59where maybe that wall is, do I grow or do I stay where I am?
- 47:04What's the one best piece of advice you'd give that person?
- 47:07Love the wall. Okay.
- 47:09I hit it all the time.
- 47:13Sometimes it feels like multiple times
- 47:15a day where I feel like I've got it going on.
- 47:18And then you're being in your head against that wall, right?
- 47:21Yeah.
- 47:22So when you when you hit the wall, aside
- 47:26from honestly, the first bit of advice is always going to apply.
- 47:30But when you hit that wall,
- 47:34just know that you can keep going and that there's always like a solution.
- 47:38So be more solution
- 47:39focused as opposed to kind of focusing on like keeping hitting the wall.
- 47:44And honestly, I would say like if you don't have a coach or a mentor,
- 47:48get one, like I and I, I get it.
- 47:53Like that took me a minute to like, hop on board with that, like fully,
- 47:57you know, like I had the repp guys in the beginning,
- 47:59but this was back when they just kind of their,
- 48:01their small course and that got me through now.
- 48:03Now I'm with them in their big course where it's one on one. But
- 48:09I think for a while I
- 48:10just I was just like, well, it's so much money.
- 48:14Is that really going to help me?
- 48:16And like, it's just a bunch of excuses.
- 48:18It is living in like a fear based universe.
- 48:22When you are doing that, like, do you really want this?
- 48:25If you really want this, yeah,
- 48:27you do have to invest in yourself, Get a coach, get a mentor.
- 48:31Not only are they going to show you the way
- 48:33like tactically, but they're going to help with the accountability
- 48:36and the person side of you, which is the biggest part.
- 48:40Like I know we had mentioned earlier, it's like 20% tactics, 80% you, like.
- 48:46That is how the business runs.
- 48:47Like 80% of it is you holding yourself back.
- 48:50I think a coach helps with both of those
- 48:54things.
- 48:55So that is really what I would say.
- 48:58And if you're listening and you're just like not on board with the coach thing,
- 49:01I've been there, I got over it, I did it.
- 49:06And like my whole world exploded and opened up
- 49:10and now we're like, bigger than I ever thought we would be.
- 49:13And we're going to be even bigger than this in the future.
- 49:15And it's like,
- 49:17Now I get it.
- 49:18I'm like, What's the next coach I can go find?
- 49:21Where is he or she?
- 49:22Like, Let's go.
- 49:24It boils down to
- 49:25and I had to get over this mindset myself is you have to spend money to make money.
- 49:29And I look at you know, you look at that initial investment, say a drone,
- 49:32you have to buy a drone
- 49:33and maybe you haven't spent that much money on a of equipment.
- 49:38I was always
- 49:39really conservative, fiscally conservative.
- 49:42I didn't like to spend money if I didn't need to.
- 49:45But once I took that jump and invested, look at it as an investment,
- 49:49not an expenditure.
- 49:50You're investing in a piece of equipment
- 49:52that's going to allow you to expand your revenue.
- 49:55It's the same thing with a coach.
- 49:57Yeah, that initial investment might be a shock to your system, but
- 50:00what is that going to unlock for you in terms of, like Colleen has said,
- 50:04your, you know, your view of yourself leading with with faith over fear
- 50:09and walking in a boldness and a courage, I can do this.
- 50:13Others have done it. I can do this.
- 50:15And then you're your income, your
- 50:18your profits expand exponentially,
- 50:22all based on that one First
- 50:23initial investment you made in a coach that helps you get over yourself.
- 50:27If we if we walk alone, that's when we get picked off.
- 50:30Our our internal thought process can just destroy us.
- 50:34It's always good to have an outside perspective that can speak life into your life
- 50:39and help you see things in a different way
- 50:41that will just unlock some key things in your life.
- 50:44Yeah 100%.
- 50:46And something I love to say because you said the word bold.
- 50:49Something I love to say is that God favors the bold or the universe favors
- 50:54the bold.
- 50:54You can say it both ways.
- 50:55It means the same thing. But it's so true.
- 50:58The other thing for so for me and my business.
- 51:02So this is year 20 for me.
- 51:04And I probably hired my first coach maybe seven or eight years ago.
- 51:08And so I was 12, 13 years in and I had a, I had a fairly large business.
- 51:14We had a lot of employees, be a lot of photographers.
- 51:16And I began to get this a little bit of ego and and I didn't realize it.
- 51:22And I can still have a little bit of a ego ask my wife. But,
- 51:26but I didn't realize it.
- 51:27And for me I was I was confident.
- 51:30I felt like my relationships were good.
- 51:32I just needed somebody to tell me that I was doing something stupid
- 51:36when I was doing something stupid for it was just that practical.
- 51:39It's just like in having that perspective
- 51:43because when things are going well, you are like you're on top of the world.
- 51:48And I felt that I had like 13 years of just growth.
- 51:52And you
- 51:56you might be at least my personality.
- 51:58I was a little too high on the horse, if you will.
- 52:02And luckily my coach shared things with me and his name was Dennis
- 52:07and shared things with me that made me like
- 52:12nobody in the office is going to tell me like, that was stupid.
- 52:15Yeah. Or that was inappropriate.
- 52:17Not inappropriate. Like, it just wasn't.
- 52:19It wasn't the right idea. It wasn't the right, you know,
- 52:22thing to say.
- 52:25And Dennis is like, you know, wait a minute.
- 52:27Like he would bring in the perspective of the employees.
- 52:29Like, Todd. No one's going to say that to you.
- 52:31But this is how and feelings were tough for me.
- 52:34I have this feeling clock now.
- 52:36I always can show it here.
- 52:37So if you if you can't see,
- 52:38I'm hold up a clock that has a whole bunch of different feelings also,
- 52:42and feelings typically as human beings that
- 52:47are some of you, it's easier.
- 52:48It's easier maybe for females to talk about feelings.
- 52:50But for me it was difficult to talk about feelings and understand feelings.
- 52:54So it was just somebody I needed someone to tell me
- 52:57that it was a dumb idea or it was a dumb thought.
- 53:00And then a coach allows you to compress time.
- 53:04And for me, I'm an efficiency brain,
- 53:06so I want to do everything the most efficient way possible.
- 53:10And if I were to start my business now,
- 53:14knowing what I failed at over the last 20 years,
- 53:19I could probably build it.
- 53:20And one or two, because I just
- 53:24I have learned that knowledge and you can compress time.
- 53:28So, you know, that is something to think about.
- 53:32And again, if if it is just someone right now that
- 53:36you share with them and everything that Colleen said as
- 53:38they're transparent with their with their everyone really should use it.
- 53:42An example of their clients like, hey, this is what our goals are.
- 53:45Tim's going to, you know, Tim not going to shoot me more.
- 53:48We want to grow the team. We trust these people.
- 53:50Transparency is key and what you do in life
- 53:53and so I would just encourage you to continue to be transparent.
- 53:57Tell people if you share with someone that you need accountability,
- 54:02you might find your neighbor, your mom, your dad can do it.
- 54:05So this isn't completely about you have to go out by a coach right now.
- 54:09If you find a a qualified coach, great.
- 54:12If you can find that in your neighbor.
- 54:14Awesome.
- 54:15Yeah.
- 54:16So other people that have businesses connect with them.
- 54:20You know, people love to help people.
- 54:21So if you if you've been following a media business online, that's wherever
- 54:26message them.
- 54:27You know, you never know what connections
- 54:28you can create and you can hold each other accountable.
- 54:31And I'm definitely always available.
- 54:33You can reach out to to us at Three Palms Media or my
- 54:36I know my email is going to be in the show notes.

- 54:46Colleen, or just wants to pick your brain or hear more of your story,
- 54:49what is your email address, if you don't mind sharing that?
