• 1:52
Speaker 2: our folks in Jackson County know all about the rain

Speaker 2: and storms. Overnight, an area around Ripley got something like
• 1:58

Speaker 2: instead we are joined by Elena Allen to the shelter
• 3:24
Speaker 2: and she joins us this morning. Good morning, Welcome to
• 3:26
  Speaker 2: the show.
• 3:26
  Speaker 3: Lene.
• 3:26
Speaker 4: Great to have you here, Yeah, great to be here.
• 3:29
Speaker 2: All right. So this week it is a lovely boy
• 3:32
Speaker 2: by the name of Jason. And when you see his
• 3:35
Speaker 2: picture posted this morning Dave Alan Radio and Facebook and
• 3:38
Speaker 2: also the WCCHS network Facebook page and at Dave A
• 3:42
Speaker 2: seventy on X, the first thing you're gonna notice, Elena,
• 3:46
Speaker 2: is those ears tell us about Jason.
• 3:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, so his ears are definitely in what makes him
• 3:54
Speaker 5: very distinct. A couple of the things about him. He
• 3:57
Speaker 5: is about two months old of today, on vaccines, microchipped,
• 4:01
Speaker 5: all the good stuff. He is not fixed yet, but
• 4:04
Speaker 5: of course once you adopt, we will get that scheduled
• 4:08
Speaker 5: and then some of his attributes we have. He's kid friendly,
• 4:12
Speaker 5: he is very playful, he's very social, and if you're
• 4:16
Speaker 5: a Harry Potter fan, he is a hustle puff.
• 4:18
Speaker 2: Okay, I don't know what that means, but you and
• 4:21
Speaker 2: Angie sometimes speak a language, and I have no idea
• 4:23
Speaker 2: what it means, but maybe some of our listeners do.
• 4:25
Speaker 2: What kind of dog is he? Do we have any idea?
• 4:28
Speaker 5: We don't know for sure. This is just my guess.
• 4:32
Speaker 5: I'd say he probably has some shepherd in him, just
• 4:34
Speaker 5: with the way those ears are.
• 4:36
Speaker 2: What do we talk? I mean, how big a dog
• 4:40
Speaker 2: do you think this will be? I mean you can
• 4:42
Speaker 2: just say like medium sized, large size. It's kind of
• 4:44
Speaker 2: hard to tell that. Angie does a great job of
• 4:46
Speaker 2: the picture, but this one I really only saw. Really
• 4:48
Speaker 2: all you saw was the ears and the picture. So
• 4:50
Speaker 2: how big a dog is this going to be?
• 4:53
Speaker 5: If I had to guess, I'd say he'll probably be
• 4:56
Speaker 5: medium sized, maybe forty fifty pounds.
• 4:59
Speaker 2: In most Well, he's a beautiful dog and again his
• 5:01
Speaker 2: pictures posted on my social media and also the WHS
• 5:05
Speaker 2: network Facebook page and at dave a seventy ONX. We'll
• 5:08
Speaker 2: get back to Jason a little bit later on. If
• 5:10
Speaker 2: you go over to your guys Facebook page, you can
• 5:11
Speaker 2: check the schedule for Fixed Charleston, the low cost Spay
• 5:16
Speaker 2: and Neuter Wellness Clinic which is just below the Sheilter
• 5:18
Speaker 2: and we urge people to check that out, take a
• 5:21
Speaker 2: look at that schedule and get them critters taken care of.
• 5:25
Speaker 5: Yes, absolutely, we do have some spots open for August
• 5:29
Speaker 5: that definitely give us a call, all right.
• 5:32
Speaker 2: And I feel like a broken record every week by
• 5:35
Speaker 2: asking about the spacing issues. We're hoping it's getting better,
• 5:38
Speaker 2: but it doesn't look like it right away, right, No,
• 5:42
Speaker 2: not at the moment. All right, So what are the numbers?
• 5:46
Speaker 2: I mean, you don't have to give me the exact number,
• 5:48
Speaker 2: but I mean, or how many overcapacity are we other
• 5:50
Speaker 2: than just buy a lot?
• 5:53
Speaker 5: Well, I can't say for sure, but I do know
• 5:56
Speaker 5: that we currently have a lot of mom dogs and puppies.
• 6:02
Speaker 5: Well the biggest thing.
• 6:04
Speaker 2: Yeah, and uh, and the cat situation this time of
• 6:07
Speaker 2: year is always usually off the charts as well.
• 6:10
Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely, cat season is rough every summer.
• 6:13
Speaker 2: Well, we uh, in the interview that we did our
• 6:15
Speaker 2: second with Angie last week at Lana, we we tried
• 6:18
Speaker 2: to you know, implore upon people, although they are trying
• 6:22
Speaker 2: to do the right thing, uh, that it is not
• 6:26
Speaker 2: a good idea to just drop off animals at the
• 6:28
Speaker 2: gate of the shelter on weekends or you know, when
• 6:30
Speaker 2: you're closed or the overnight hours or whatever. You know,
• 6:33
Speaker 2: it's a good idea and theory. But we hope and
• 6:36
Speaker 2: Jeff and the news team even did a news story
• 6:37
Speaker 2: in that we're hoping that we got the word out
• 6:39
Speaker 2: about not doing that.
• 6:42
Speaker 5: Yeah, hopefully. The biggest thing is just come talk to us,
• 6:45
Speaker 5: you know, and we'll we'll work out what we.
• 6:47
Speaker 2: Can because there's always questions that you have. And again,
• 6:50
Speaker 2: if you just leave the dog at or the cat
• 6:52
Speaker 2: or whatever at the gate of the shelter, you don't
• 6:54
Speaker 2: and the dog, you know, they don't say a lot.
• 6:56
Speaker 2: So uh uh, you know you can't you can't necessarily
• 6:59
Speaker 2: ask them, you know, I mean, how old are you?
• 7:02
Speaker 2: Are you vaccinated? You know what? You know? You you
• 7:05
Speaker 2: can't they can't answer for themselves, so so try if
• 7:08
Speaker 2: you're going to do that, try to do it during
• 7:10
Speaker 2: your normal hours. What are you guys most in need of?
• 7:13
Speaker 2: What are some of the supplies you need?
• 7:16
Speaker 5: I would say the biggest thing right now is just food.
• 7:19
Speaker 5: Any Purina product of dry food, and then any wet
• 7:23
Speaker 5: food brand is okay.
• 7:24
Speaker 2: All right, And of course we always urge people that cash.
• 7:29
Speaker 2: You can always donate cash. There's information available on the
• 7:31
Speaker 2: website on how to do that. You guys going to
• 7:33
Speaker 2: be out and about anywhere this weekend?
• 7:37
Speaker 5: Yes, on Saturday, there is an event at the Charleston
• 7:40
Speaker 5: branch of the Kennell County Public Library. I believe it
• 7:45
Speaker 5: is from eleven to two. I could be a little
• 7:47
Speaker 5: bit wrong on that, but it's we're doing a puppy
• 7:51
Speaker 5: story time. So if that's something you're interested in, that's
• 7:53
Speaker 5: only come on down.
• 7:54
Speaker 2: What are okay, you guys have to explain to me
• 7:56
Speaker 2: what is a puppy story time?
• 7:59
Speaker 5: Essentially, it's typically like the librarians will read a story
• 8:03
Speaker 5: to the kids. Sometimes they'll have craft, sometimes they'll have snacks,
• 8:08
Speaker 5: and we just bring puppies for everyone to come love one.
• 8:11
Speaker 2: That's you can't go wrong with that, you know. Angie
• 8:14
Speaker 2: always gets a couple of texts here with questions. So
• 8:16
Speaker 2: you get to be in the Angie roll today. Are
• 8:17
  Speaker 2: you ready?
• 8:18
  Speaker 6: Yes?
• 8:19
Speaker 2: Actually you have three Any updates from Hennessy's family? Are
• 8:23
  Speaker 2: they moving here?
• 8:23
  Speaker 5: Now?
• 8:23
Speaker 2: This is the story. Hennessy was the dog from out
• 8:26
Speaker 2: in the Midwest? Was it was it Iowa? Was that
• 8:29
Speaker 2: where they were from? Nebraska? What state was it? Do
• 8:31
  Speaker 2: you remember?
• 8:33
Speaker 5: I believe it was? I believe Iowa?
• 8:35
Speaker 2: Okay, all right? And this was the tragic story of
• 8:38
Speaker 2: the trucker that was driving on I sixty four and
• 8:41
Speaker 2: he was killed in the accident. Some good Samaritans were
• 8:44
Speaker 2: able it was Iowa's as a textual appreciate that right
• 8:47
Speaker 2: on top of it, uh, and they were able to
• 8:49
Speaker 2: get the dog out. They contacted the family, the family
• 8:52
Speaker 2: came to West Virginia to pick up Hennessy. Family came
• 8:54
Speaker 2: back to West Virginia, brought Hennessey there for a visit, uh,
• 8:58
Speaker 2: because they had to take care some affairs of the deceased.
• 9:01
Speaker 2: And there was some talk that that the family might
• 9:04
Speaker 2: be moving here. And we don't want to get into
• 9:07
Speaker 2: their personal business, but can you give us an update
• 9:09
  Speaker 2: on that story.
• 9:11
Speaker 5: I haven't heard anything about them moving here yet, but
• 9:15
Speaker 5: I have just we've gotten a lot of good update.
• 9:17
Speaker 5: Tennessee is doing well. I mean, just just an incredible
• 9:22
Speaker 5: story overall. And we of course would love to say
• 9:25
Speaker 5: moved down here, but I'm not entirely sure.
• 9:28
Speaker 2: All right, The next question was how are you doing
• 9:30
Speaker 2: on kitten and puppy milk replacement formula? And and and
• 9:34
Speaker 2: also do you prefer powder or liquid?
• 9:37
Speaker 5: We prefer powder, I would say right now. We could
• 9:42
Speaker 5: probably use a little bit more. We essentially always could
• 9:46
  Speaker 5: use more.
• 9:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, there's always I mean, these things that we talk
• 9:48
Speaker 2: about every week are are are evergreen?
• 9:52
  Speaker 7: Man?
• 9:52
Speaker 2: I mean you need these things every week. When we
• 9:54
Speaker 2: talk about you know, the down dishwashing detergent, and we
• 9:57
Speaker 2: talk about the purina and we talk about the the
• 10:00
Speaker 2: kitten and puppy milk formula and anything else. I mean,
• 10:04
Speaker 2: you guys will take about anything up there. I do
• 10:07
Speaker 2: want to ask you about kegs for canines that's going
• 10:09
Speaker 2: to be coming up here, I think on the twenty
• 10:10
Speaker 2: ninth over at the Red Carpet Lounge. How's the preparation
• 10:12
  Speaker 2: for that?
• 10:13
  Speaker 4: Goe.
• 10:14
Speaker 5: It's going good. It's gearing enough to be a pretty
• 10:18
Speaker 5: good event this year.
• 10:19
Speaker 2: I will say that, all right again, The tails are
• 10:21
Speaker 2: available on their social media and also on the website
• 10:25
Speaker 2: as well. Kegs for Canines is going to be August
• 10:28
Speaker 2: the twenty ninth at the Red Carpet Lounge. Steve Animal
• 10:30
Speaker 2: and I from ninety eight to seven, A Mountain Wild,
• 10:32
Speaker 2: Wonderful Classic Rock are planning on being there. Hey, Elena,
• 10:35
Speaker 2: it's always a pleasure to have you step in when
• 10:38
Speaker 2: and she's not available. You're always welcome on the show
• 10:40
Speaker 2: any time, Elena Allen, no relation, appreciate you being here.
• 10:43
Speaker 4: Thanks a lot, Yeah, thank you.
• 10:45
Speaker 2: All right. It is nine eighteen and again the dog
• 10:48
Speaker 2: we are trying to get adopted this week. His name
• 10:50
Speaker 2: is Jason, four months old, typical puppy, Angie tells me,
• 10:57
Speaker 2: seems to be kid friendly and seems to like other
• 11:00
Speaker 2: pets as well. And when you go and you look
• 11:02
Speaker 2: at the picture of Jason on my Facebook page Dave
• 11:05
Speaker 2: Allen Radio, or at Dave A seventy on X or
• 11:07
Speaker 2: the WHS Network Facebook page, the first thing you're gonna
• 11:10
Speaker 2: notice is those ears. Okay, I mean And when I
• 11:16
Speaker 2: first saw the picture, what Age said it to me
• 11:17
Speaker 2: last night? I was reminded of the DL Hugley joke
• 11:20
Speaker 2: and Kings of comedy and I got to clean it
• 11:23
Speaker 2: up a little bit, so don't worry Ryan. But it
• 11:24
Speaker 2: was basically that dog couldhere tomorrow. So I mean, that's
• 11:27
Speaker 2: how big those ears are. So go get to Jason.
• 11:31
  Speaker 2: He's a lovely, lovely dog. I know he's been in
• 11:33
Speaker 2: all of the talk of the office here today. I
• 11:35
Speaker 2: was talking to Lee out front a little bit earlier
• 11:37
Speaker 2: about him and Antoine out front as well. I mean,
• 11:40
Speaker 2: maybe we need a station dog. I don't know, but
• 11:42
Speaker 2: I think the rules kind of found upon that Jason
• 11:44
Speaker 2: is her dog. Picture posted Dave Allen Radio on Facebook,

• 15:17
Speaker 2: is now ready. He just sent me a text. We
• 15:19
Speaker 2: were trying to coordinate two different guys with busy schedules here,
• 15:22
Speaker 2: including one of them being the CEO of a hospital,
• 15:25
Speaker 2: and we're trying to effort Big Brother Burke. Burke may
• 15:28
Speaker 2: still be in bed because he sent me an email
• 15:31
Speaker 2: and I was in bed, but I got it this
• 15:33
Speaker 2: morning when I got up and it was timed at
• 15:36
Speaker 2: two point fifty a m. This morning, So he might
• 15:40
Speaker 2: still be sleep but we'll try to add him to
• 15:42
Speaker 2: it as best we can. Because we're talking about Logan
• 15:45
Speaker 2: Regional Medical Center and their one hundredth anniversary that's coming
• 15:49
Speaker 2: up tomorrow, and I will throw in a little plug
• 15:51
Speaker 2: there for one of our sister stations, ninety six to
• 15:53
Speaker 2: one KWS. I'm going to be down there representing the
• 15:55
Speaker 2: station tomorrow, looking forward to m scene in that event
• 15:58
Speaker 2: with Big Brother Burke. Tomorrow. They're doing this concert with
• 16:01
Speaker 2: Basically what they wanted to do was give back to
• 16:03
Speaker 2: the community in a big way. Food trucks, fireworks, stuff
• 16:06
Speaker 2: for the kids, and all kinds of good stuff. Justin
• 16:10
Speaker 2: Turner is the CEO of Logan Regional and he's teaming
• 16:14
Speaker 2: up with Burke to make this thing happen tomorrow and
• 16:17
Speaker 2: Justin's with us now on the Guarantee Bank outline. Justin,
• 16:19
Speaker 2: good morning, Welcome to the show.
• 16:21
Speaker 4: Hey Dave, good morning.
• 16:22
Speaker 2: As long as I have known you, this may be
• 16:26
Speaker 2: the first time if if I ever interviewed you before.
• 16:30
  Speaker 4: No, I don't think so.
• 16:31
Speaker 2: I mean I was thinking because first, well, I may
• 16:34
Speaker 2: have back of the WVW days when you were coaching tennis,
• 16:38
Speaker 2: you know, maybe at you know, at Logan or something
• 16:41
Speaker 2: like that. I don't know, maybe you're old radio guy.
• 16:44
Speaker 2: Maybe you should just interview me.
• 16:46
  Speaker 7: I don't know.
• 16:47
Speaker 4: I think you did a really good job.
• 16:48
  Speaker 2: No, I don't really good don't all right, Okay, I
• 16:50
Speaker 2: kind of do. All right. You're the current guy in
• 16:52
Speaker 2: charge there, and of course at Logan Regional. You are
• 16:55
Speaker 2: a Logan County guy. You've been at other hospitals, but
• 16:58
Speaker 2: you came back to Logan Regional and you told me
• 17:00
Speaker 2: was your dream job. Why is that?
• 17:02
Speaker 4: It's home and you know, when you get deep roots
• 17:07
Speaker 4: in the community, and that's what my family's always done here,
• 17:12
Speaker 4: and all my family are still here, and it just
• 17:16
Speaker 4: felt like a natural thing to me to come back
• 17:18
Speaker 4: home and serve the people that helped me you know,
• 17:22
Speaker 4: from diapers all the way through. You know, they've seen
• 17:26
Speaker 4: every part of it. And you know, just going to
• 17:29
Speaker 4: school here again, just coming back to serve the people
• 17:33
Speaker 4: that serve me as I was growing up. I think
• 17:35
  Speaker 4: that's really key.
• 17:37
Speaker 2: About the history of Logan Regional. I mean, you know,
• 17:40
Speaker 2: it's not every day that you have a business that
• 17:42
Speaker 2: celebrated one hundred years in business. I don't care what
• 17:45
Speaker 2: the business is, let alone a medical facility. But how
• 17:48
Speaker 2: much of the history of Logan Regional do you know?
• 17:51
Speaker 4: Yeah, so Logan General obviously started in nineteen twenty six.
• 17:55
Speaker 4: It was in the parking lot of the current parking lot. Now,
• 17:59
Speaker 4: around nineteen six seventy two, they formulated a plan to
• 18:02
Speaker 4: build a hospital over the Gayandot River, and so that's
• 18:06
Speaker 4: where we are now in the hospital. This hospital opened
• 18:09
Speaker 4: one hundred and forty bed facility opened in nineteen seventy five,
• 18:14
Speaker 4: and that's when they moved over. But just you know,
• 18:17
Speaker 4: I think then coal mining was big. You had actually
• 18:21
Speaker 4: three or four hospitals in Logan County at during for
• 18:26
  Speaker 4: several years.
• 18:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, but I was growing up, I mean I remember
• 18:29
Speaker 2: them when I was growing up in the nineteen seventies,
• 18:32
Speaker 2: and eighties, you had one in Holden, and you had
• 18:34
Speaker 2: what Logan Regional. Of course you had Guyan Valley Hospital.
• 18:36
Speaker 2: He had two in the city of Logan and then
• 18:39
Speaker 2: also man Apple Acti Regional Hospital too. My grandmother worked there. Yeah.
• 18:44
Speaker 4: So, and this one has has stood the test of time.
• 18:48
Speaker 4: And you know, healthcare is always changing world, but this
• 18:54
Speaker 4: place has stood the test of time, so to speak.
• 18:57
Speaker 4: And we're here twenty two full time specialist level four
• 19:02
Speaker 4: trauma center and our er and here to serve our community.
• 19:07
Speaker 2: And for the folks here in the Charleston area. You know,
• 19:09
Speaker 2: we're based here in Charleston, the entire Canawa Valley. But
• 19:12
Speaker 2: of course, via the magic of the interwebs and apps,
• 19:14
Speaker 2: we have listeners all over the place. Why is it worth,
• 19:17
Speaker 2: in your opinion, the drive for somebody that may live
• 19:21
Speaker 2: an hour or so away to come for the services
• 19:23
Speaker 2: of the Logan Regional And what are some of the
• 19:24
Speaker 2: services that you have there that people may not be
• 19:27
  Speaker 2: aware of?
• 19:28
Speaker 4: I think the comprehensive care we offer more one on one.
• 19:32
Speaker 4: You're not just a number here, you know, it's more
• 19:36
Speaker 4: of a family environment. We have about six hundred and
• 19:38
Speaker 4: fifty employees and you know, The really one thing that
• 19:43
Speaker 4: I wanted to bring back here was, you know, a
• 19:46
Speaker 4: shift in the culture to incorporate this is home. We
• 19:50
Speaker 4: work here, we serve our families, our friends, and I
• 19:55
Speaker 4: think that's what you'll get here. And the vibe you'll
• 19:57
Speaker 4: feel as soon as you walk in the door is
• 20:00
Speaker 4: a family atmosphere. And again you mentioned the specialties we have.
• 20:05
Speaker 4: I mean we have from pulmonology to cardiology, general surgery.
• 20:11
Speaker 4: We've partnered up with Marshall Health Network. We have the
• 20:14
Speaker 4: nation's first rural general surgery residency program, so we have
• 20:20
Speaker 4: general surgery residents that are here from Marshall, and then
• 20:24
Speaker 4: two full time surgeons, doctor Cisco's from Ingo County and
• 20:28
Speaker 4: doctor Paul who's a West Virginia native from around Fairmont,
• 20:33
Speaker 4: and then a plethora of others from orthopedics, pedetry, wound
• 20:36
Speaker 4: care again just to list them all would be here. Yeah,
• 20:39
Speaker 4: while I got you twenty two full time specialists.
• 20:42
Speaker 2: And the reason I wanted to say that is because
• 20:44
Speaker 2: you know, you talk about a smaller community like that,
• 20:47
Speaker 2: you don't think that a lot of the services are
• 20:49
Speaker 2: going to be offered, but you have a big client
• 20:51
Speaker 2: base here in the Canal Valley people that drive from
• 20:54
Speaker 2: here to there, people from Pike County, Kentucky, and they've
• 20:57
Speaker 2: got a you know, a great medical facility there as well.
• 21:00
Speaker 2: Will make those that trip there to Logan for the
• 21:02
  Speaker 2: services that you.
• 21:03
Speaker 4: Have, yeah, absolutely, And it's all about convenience too. For
• 21:07
Speaker 4: a quality inconvenience, that's what we're shooting for here. And
• 21:11
Speaker 4: we recently had some great quality scores from our facility.
• 21:16
Speaker 4: You'll see here Elite Frog scores. You can look that
• 21:19
Speaker 4: up where Elite Frog a and have been and continue
• 21:24
Speaker 4: to be with quality at the top of the list.
• 21:27
Speaker 2: And how many people do you employ at the hospital?
• 21:30
Speaker 4: Around six hundred and fifty people.
• 21:31
Speaker 2: I mean it's one of the largest employers in the county,
• 21:33
Speaker 2: right or is it the largest? It's got to be,
• 21:35
Speaker 2: all right, right at the top.
• 21:36
Speaker 4: Yeah, outside of the school board, we're right behind them, okay.
• 21:41
Speaker 2: And I think it's the thing to me that's interesting
• 21:44
Speaker 2: about Logan Regional is and we all know you're a
• 21:47
Speaker 2: Logan guy. I'm a Logan kay. You know, we know
• 21:50
Speaker 2: about the decline and population not only in Logan County,
• 21:53
Speaker 2: but I mean pretty much, save for a few areas
• 21:55
Speaker 2: around the state, of the entire state, but with that
• 21:58
Speaker 2: Logan Regional Medical Center is. I mean, it's a lot
• 22:01
Speaker 2: bigger facility than what it was when I was growing
• 22:04
Speaker 2: up in the seventies and eighties. I mean it's doubled
• 22:06
Speaker 2: or tripled in size since that time, and that's just
• 22:08
  Speaker 2: almost unheard of.
• 22:10
Speaker 4: Yeah. Absolutely, And it's about bringing quality care close to
• 22:14
Speaker 4: home so people don't have to travel and from Logan
• 22:18
Speaker 4: to somewhere, or if folks want that personal touch, they
• 22:21
Speaker 4: can drive an easy drive down one nineteen from eastern
• 22:24
Speaker 4: Kentucky or from Kanall County and come this way.
• 22:28
Speaker 2: We got I think we have a big brother, Burke
• 22:30
Speaker 2: Allen on the phone right now. Justice, I want you
• 22:32
Speaker 2: to hang out with me as well. We're gonna put
• 22:33
Speaker 2: you both on here at the same time because you
• 22:34
Speaker 2: wanted to give something back to the community. Before we
• 22:37
Speaker 2: go to Burke, though, I do want to ask you
• 22:39
Speaker 2: justin why was it important for you to have this
• 22:41
  Speaker 2: big celebration tomorrow.
• 22:43
Speaker 4: Yeah. For me, again, it was just giving back, and
• 22:47
Speaker 4: you know, I wanted to do something that the whole
• 22:49
Speaker 4: community could come to right in the heart of Logan,
• 22:52
Speaker 4: and the football field seemed like the place. And we've
• 22:55
Speaker 4: been working really well with the Logan County Schools to
• 22:58
Speaker 4: make this happen. And instead of having something the ticketed
• 23:03
Speaker 4: event or something in Charleston or outside, we want to
• 23:07
Speaker 4: do it right here and make it free for everybody
• 23:10
Speaker 4: with a big name like Ricky Skaggs.
• 23:12
Speaker 2: And this lineup is phenomenal, Yeah it is. And I
• 23:15
Speaker 2: want to bring in Burke Allen now alimedia strategies who
• 23:18
Speaker 2: you you know, charged to pull off this event as
• 23:21
Speaker 2: far as the entertainment goes. Burke, I'm glad you could
• 23:24
Speaker 2: fit us into your schedule today.
• 23:26
Speaker 7: Well, I'll tell you it is a million little details.
• 23:29
Speaker 7: You know, you count port a partties, you try to
• 23:32
Speaker 7: figure out exactly, you know, how many dinners you got
• 23:35
Speaker 7: to get ready for everybody. But it's so worth it.
• 23:37
Speaker 7: And you know, I'm a Logan boy like you guys,
• 23:39
Speaker 7: And what an honor to be a part of all this,
• 23:41
Speaker 7: and through the hundredth anniversary of the hospital where you
• 23:44
Speaker 7: know I was born. I was born at that hospital
• 23:47
Speaker 7: back in the days when the dinosaurs are on near
• 23:49
Speaker 7: and he's still going, let's do another hundred, right.
• 23:53
Speaker 2: And so let's talk about the lineup that you've put
• 23:55
Speaker 2: together from an entertainment standpoint, because and it's not just music.
• 23:58
Speaker 2: I mean there's food trucks and or stuff for the
• 23:59
Speaker 2: kids and fireworks afterwards. We'll get to all that later,
• 24:02
Speaker 2: but talk about this musical lineup, and folks, when you
• 24:04
Speaker 2: hear this lineup, and you've heard me talk about it
• 24:06
Speaker 2: for a couple of weeks, keep in mind this is
• 24:08
Speaker 2: absolutely free. I mean there is no charge.
• 24:10
  Speaker 1: Now.
• 24:10
Speaker 2: Obviously, if you're going to get something for the food truck,
• 24:12
Speaker 2: you're going to pay, but I mean as far as
• 24:14
Speaker 2: the entertainment, it is absolutely one hundred percent free. Give
• 24:18
Speaker 2: us the lineup, burk and go.
• 24:21
Speaker 7: So we start off with this really cool thing that
• 24:25
Speaker 7: has been put together. It's the Logan Regional Medical Center
• 24:29
Speaker 7: Alumni Band. So these are all musicians that have down
• 24:31
Speaker 7: through the years been affiliated with the hospital one way
• 24:34
Speaker 7: or another, and they're going to kick things off just
• 24:37
Speaker 7: after the gate's open at three o'clock. We have Ryan Brisher,
• 24:40
Speaker 7: who's an up and coming country music artist from Kentucky,
• 24:43
Speaker 7: and I will say that all of these artists have
• 24:45
Speaker 7: ties to West Virginia and Kentucky. The Mountain Stage Band,
• 24:50
Speaker 7: who you know, of course, are known all over the
• 24:53
Speaker 7: world from the radio show, on the TV show They're
• 24:55
Speaker 7: going to perform along with Corduroy Brown, who's a Huntington guy,
• 25:01
Speaker 7: John Ellison, who's known all over the world writing one
• 25:04
Speaker 7: of the most recorded songs of all time some kind
• 25:06
Speaker 7: of Wonderful. Dell Nora, who is a Princeton native, has
• 25:10
Speaker 7: been in Nashville for many years, eight albums in and
• 25:13
Speaker 7: currently right now this very day as the number one
• 25:16
Speaker 7: song in America on the Country Christian Charts, and she's
• 25:20
Speaker 7: also the twenty twenty six I see him a Female
• 25:23
Speaker 7: Vocalist of the Year show perform. We have the Davidson
• 25:26
Speaker 7: Brothers Band who are coming in. People love those guys
• 25:29
Speaker 7: from north central West Virginia. Hometown boy Land. You Jane
• 25:34
Speaker 7: Murphy Jr. Your America's Got Talent winner and you may
• 25:37
Speaker 7: have heard of this guy. Ricky Skaggs and his Van
• 25:41
Speaker 7: Kentucky Thunder are going to perform. And I may be
• 25:43
Speaker 7: leaving people off because we had a whole lot of
• 25:45
Speaker 7: people to jam into that stage before the fireworks in
• 25:48
Speaker 7: And by the way, justin, I've got your tambourine ready
• 25:51
Speaker 7: and your kazoo, so we're gonna put you out behind
• 25:53
Speaker 7: Ricky Skaggs and the tambourine and Kazoo. So get your
• 25:56
  Speaker 7: chops ready.
• 25:57
Speaker 4: I'm ready on the back of land Motown.
• 26:00
Speaker 2: How about Lotech, Yeah, he's a Motown guys. Burke, you
• 26:02
Speaker 2: forgot them? Just nope.
• 26:07
Speaker 7: I think now one Americ who's got talent. He went
• 26:09
Speaker 7: on a Christmas tour and we asked him, what you know,
• 26:12
Speaker 7: what's your favorite Christmas song of all time? And it's
• 26:16
Speaker 7: Silent Night by the Temptations. And so I tracked down
• 26:19
Speaker 7: guys from the Temptations, the Four Tops, the Drifters and more,
• 26:23
Speaker 7: and they've become fast friends and they mentored Lando along
• 26:27
Speaker 7: the way in his entertainment journey. So when we asked
• 26:30
Speaker 7: if they could come back to Landou's hometown and do this,
• 26:32
Speaker 7: they're all in. So literally, the lead singer of the
• 26:35
Speaker 7: Four Tops tonight is in Indianapolis. He's hopping on a
• 26:38
Speaker 7: plane at six here in time. So the lead singers
• 26:42
Speaker 7: are the Four Tops, Temptations, the Drifters, and more.
• 26:45
  Speaker 2: The voices of.
• 26:45
Speaker 7: Classic soul are going to be there, So get your
• 26:47
  Speaker 7: dance and shoes.
• 26:48
Speaker 2: On and again this is going to be on the
• 26:50
Speaker 2: football stadium. And Brian Hughes told me the weather it
• 26:54
Speaker 2: is about fifty to fifty right now. I told you
• 26:56
Speaker 2: guys yesterday, I said, I think could be a whole
• 26:58
Speaker 2: lot better if we had one hundred percent chance that way,
• 27:00
Speaker 2: we would know what to do as far as moving
• 27:02
Speaker 2: the thing indoors over to the field house or whatever.
• 27:04
Speaker 2: But I guess we're just going to take our chances
• 27:05
  Speaker 2: out there tomorrow.
• 27:06
Speaker 7: Right, Yeah, we'll roll the dice a little bit. We
• 27:09
Speaker 7: do have contingency plans, and we're fortunate in that regard
• 27:12
Speaker 7: because if you're not familiar with the Logan Area or
• 27:15
Speaker 7: LA as we like to call it, the football stadium
• 27:18
Speaker 7: is just a parking lot away from Logan Memorial Fieldhouse,
• 27:22
Speaker 7: which seats five thousand people and has a big stage.
• 27:25
Speaker 7: So you know, should we have issues, we can move
• 27:27
Speaker 7: in there. But you know, I'm going to see to
• 27:30
Speaker 7: it that that doesn't happen. I've already thrown a flea
• 27:33
Speaker 7: to the big man upstairs for good weather tomorrow. And look,
• 27:36
Speaker 7: if there's a short shower, that's not an issue.
• 27:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, lightning is the issue. We can handle the rain
• 27:42
Speaker 2: and it's going to be on the football field. Do
• 27:44
Speaker 2: people need to bring their chairs?
• 27:47
Speaker 7: I think if you can bring a lawn chair of blanket,
• 27:49
Speaker 7: you can get up closer if you don't want to
• 27:51
Speaker 7: mess with it though. The stage will be set up
• 27:54
Speaker 7: to face the bleachers there in the football stadium. And
• 27:57
Speaker 7: by the way, the stage is like the size of
• 27:58
Speaker 7: the one at the certain we were a god. This
• 28:00
Speaker 7: is a big, big production.
• 28:01
Speaker 2: Tomorrow and justin I know that this would not be
• 28:04
Speaker 2: possible without some folks that helped you from a financial standpoint,
• 28:08
Speaker 2: business folks in the community, anybody that you want to
• 28:11
  Speaker 2: mention in particularly.
• 28:13
Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely, Martial Health Network came through Forest on the
• 28:16
Speaker 4: fireworks show that's sponsored by them. Approximately a little after
• 28:20
Speaker 4: ten o'clock we should be shooting some fireworks off, So
• 28:23
Speaker 4: thanks to Marshall Health Network. Also, the stage was sponsored
• 28:26
Speaker 4: by Thornhill Auto Group, Wiley and Sydney in the gang
• 28:29

Speaker 2: Brothers Band, You've got land All, you g Murphy Jr.
• 29:16
Speaker 2: You've got Dell Nora, You've got the great John Ellison,

Speaker 2: who of course wrote some kind of wonderful and still
• 29:21
Speaker 2: is going strong well into his eighties. West Virginia native,
• 29:23
Speaker 2: and as you said, Burke, every one of these performers
• 29:26
Speaker 2: has ties to either West Virginia, Kentucky or both, and
• 29:29
  Speaker 2: I think that's a that's a very very big part

• 33:49
Speaker 2: thirteen News and Tonight Live anchor Amanda Baron and Me

Speaker 2: powered by the Selango Law. Now on this show Monday,

• 34:01
Speaker 2: to tell you all about that? Coming up on Monday's
• 34:04
Speaker 2: show In the folk from Lea's Legacy are going to
• 34:06
Speaker 2: stop by as well. There is a really really cool
• 34:09
Speaker 2: thing it's going to be going on is a free
• 34:11
Speaker 2: two day interactive workshop West Virginia State University of the
• 34:15
Speaker 2: Economic Development Center. And I've been joking saying, you too
• 34:19
Speaker 2: could be the next Jim Strawn. Here's your opportunity to
• 34:22
Speaker 2: be the next Jim strawng I don't know if that's
• 34:23
Speaker 2: kind of a kind of a stretcher. Chante Ellis is
• 34:27
Speaker 2: here with it's talking about how do you do with
• 34:28
  Speaker 2: chantey good?
• 34:29
  Speaker 8: How are you?
• 34:30
Speaker 2: You don't really need to wear the headphones if you
• 34:31
Speaker 2: don't want to. I don't want to mess up your
• 34:33
Speaker 2: pretty hair, thank you.
• 34:33
  Speaker 7: I don't.
• 34:35
  Speaker 2: That's what I see. My hair doesn't move. It's the
• 34:37
Speaker 2: hair of jail. It doesn't move, I don't have to
• 34:38
Speaker 2: worry about it. Tell us about this. Tell us just
• 34:40
Speaker 2: from a general perspective about this seminar. It's a two
• 34:44
Speaker 2: day event. Talk about it well.
• 34:45
Speaker 13: The today event is a professional presence, media and public
• 34:51
Speaker 13: etiquette workshop. It's presented by Jim Strong and Company, and
• 34:56
Speaker 13: he has partnered with the Economic Development Center West Virginia
• 34:59
Speaker 13: State University Economic Development Center to offer this to the
• 35:04
Speaker 13: community for free. And it's a two day interactive workshop.
• 35:09
Speaker 13: If you are a student, want to be a journalist,
• 35:14
Speaker 13: if you wanted to practice your skills on interviewing, if
• 35:17
Speaker 13: you are a professional, small business or a forward facing
• 35:22
Speaker 13: type of person and want to better your skills in
• 35:27
Speaker 13: public etiquette or public speaking, this is for you. We
• 35:33
Speaker 13: are providing lunch for both days, and then we're also
• 35:38
Speaker 13: providing a certificate of completion, which I always think is
• 35:41
Speaker 13: important when you're doing professional development, so you can have
• 35:45
Speaker 13: something to take with you when you're done, to say
• 35:48
Speaker 13: to someone, here's how I've been working on myself, and
• 35:52
Speaker 13: then this is what I have to.
• 35:54
Speaker 2: Present to a future employer included on the resume or
• 35:57
Speaker 2: something can't hurt It's another thing. You think this stuff
• 36:00
  Speaker 2: is so important.
• 36:02
  Speaker 13: Well, it's important. I'm a living example. I mean, this
• 36:06
Speaker 13: is radio show is equally as important as being on
• 36:10
Speaker 13: the news and being able to public speak. I'm even
• 36:15
Speaker 13: thinking of the you know, the student athlete portion of it,
• 36:19
Speaker 13: where after a big game win or lose, right, they
• 36:23
Speaker 13: have to be interviewed and keep.
• 36:26
Speaker 2: Their composure, especially after they lose.
• 36:30
Speaker 7: Yeah, and that's not easy.
• 36:31
Speaker 13: That's not easy to do. I mean even I speaking
• 36:34
Speaker 13: on the radio or speaking in the public, that's not
• 36:36
Speaker 13: easy to do either. It takes practice, and so Jim
• 36:40
Speaker 13: is going to offer some skills and tips and tricks
• 36:43
Speaker 13: on how to do that. The DC is contributing in
• 36:46
Speaker 13: a way where we are going to have the interactive portion.
• 36:51
Speaker 13: They're going to have opportunities to do a podcast, it's
• 36:54
Speaker 13: a live podcast. They're going to have opportunities to do
• 36:59
Speaker 13: a headshot and pictures and then even interview with a
• 37:04
Speaker 13: radio news personality. And so there are going to be
• 37:08
Speaker 13: several opportunities to be able to practice these skills before
• 37:14
Speaker 13: the end of the two day workshop.
• 37:17
Speaker 2: And that's very important. Again, Chante Ellis is here and
• 37:19
Speaker 2: you know, now the Internet, social media has totally changed
• 37:23
Speaker 2: everything now and it's changed it for good and it's
• 37:26
Speaker 2: changed it for bad in a lot of ways. In
• 37:28
Speaker 2: some ways maybe a little bit of both. Yes, And
• 37:30
Speaker 2: what happens is is now I think a lot of people.
• 37:33
Speaker 2: Everybody thinks that they are the master communicators, but everybody
• 37:37
Speaker 2: needs a little help along the way. You and I've
• 37:39
Speaker 2: said this before, you may know your stuff, no matter
• 37:41
Speaker 2: what it is. Yes, you may be the best contractor
• 37:44
Speaker 2: in the world, you may be the best athlete or whatever,
• 37:47
Speaker 2: but you've got to know how to sell yourself and
• 37:49
Speaker 2: how to present yourself. And that's what this two day
• 37:52
Speaker 2: seminar is going to be able to do.
• 37:53
Speaker 13: Yes, absolutely, and we're excited to be able to offer it.
• 37:57
Speaker 13: I mean, I've gotten a huge response. We only have
• 38:00
Speaker 13: limited slots, so we do only have twenty four slots,
• 38:03
Speaker 13: and so we are looking to fill this very quickly
• 38:06
Speaker 13: and we're almost halfway there. And so if this is
• 38:10
Speaker 13: something you are interested in, I highly suggest that you
• 38:14
Speaker 13: give us a call, because we are only taking phone
• 38:16
Speaker 13: calls just so that we can have a running wait
• 38:20
Speaker 13: list and then be fair, we don't want one organization
• 38:26
Speaker 13: to give us a call and fill up all the.
• 38:28
  Speaker 2: Slots, right.
• 38:28
Speaker 13: You don't want exactly well, you want Yeah, we want
• 38:31
Speaker 13: to spread the love a little bit, and so we're
• 38:33
Speaker 13: having people call and if you're interested, please give us
• 38:36
Speaker 13: a call. The number is three zero four seven to
• 38:40
Speaker 13: zero one four zero.
• 38:43
Speaker 2: Seven, and then you can talk to Chante and talk
• 38:46
Speaker 2: to her staff and find out about this whole thing
• 38:49
Speaker 2: because space is limited and it's actually there at.
• 38:52
Speaker 13: Yes, No, it's at the Economic Development Center and that
• 38:56
Speaker 13: is on the west side.
• 38:58
Speaker 2: I'm clarify that, yes, give us address.
• 39:00
Speaker 13: The address to that is one five zero six Cana Boulevard.
• 39:06
Speaker 2: West Ale West. Make sure you get that in Charleston,
• 39:08
Speaker 2: you have to get that east and west right. You know,
• 39:10
Speaker 2: you end up on Definitely, I've been there at the
• 39:13
Speaker 2: time on Virginia Street, mccorkyll Avenue. It happens all the time.
• 39:16
Speaker 2: I completely understand it.
• 39:17
  Speaker 4: You know.
• 39:17
Speaker 2: It's interesting because in the last segment I was talking
• 39:20
Speaker 2: to Burke Allen, who's Landau's manager, and he's we had
• 39:24
Speaker 2: a big event we're doing in Logan tomorrow. And one
• 39:26
Speaker 2: of the things that Burke does he works with a
• 39:28
Speaker 2: variety of different quote unquote celebrities. He does singers, he's
• 39:33
Speaker 2: got authors, Homer Hickham, rocket Boy, it's one of theo
• 39:36
Speaker 2: folks he manages. And one of the things he does
• 39:38
Speaker 2: before he takes on a client is he sets them
• 39:41
Speaker 2: down and says we are going to undergo some training,
• 39:44
Speaker 2: and he usually sends them somewhere or he does something
• 39:48
Speaker 2: like like a virtual thing. So what what Burke is
• 39:52
Speaker 2: sending people to? You guys are offering here in Charleston
• 39:55
  Speaker 2: for free.
• 39:55
Speaker 13: Yes, exactly. Yeah, And so if Burke is interested, he
• 40:01
Speaker 13: might want to send a few of his people over
• 40:03
Speaker 13: and get that training done that he suggests that they
• 40:07
  Speaker 13: have do.
• 40:09
Speaker 2: I think it's going to be really, really interesting. I
• 40:10
Speaker 2: think it's something that's really needed right now. And you know,
• 40:13
Speaker 2: like representing yourself authentically and professionally on social media. Social media,
• 40:19
Speaker 2: as I said earlier, Chante has changed everything. And you
• 40:23
Speaker 2: would be surprised at the number of people and you know,
• 40:27
Speaker 2: the old saying is you don't know what you don't know,
• 40:29
Speaker 2: but the number of people that don't realize how important
• 40:33
Speaker 2: social media is. Whether you love it, whether you hate it,
• 40:35
Speaker 2: you cannot operate a business successfully without social media. Everybody,
• 40:40
Speaker 2: if you're an influencer, if you're an athlete, if you're
• 40:43
Speaker 2: a church, whatever, you have to have a presence somehow
• 40:46
  Speaker 2: on social media.
• 40:47
Speaker 13: Absolutely, and you have to put your representation out there
• 40:51
Speaker 13: in a way that you see best, because once it's out.
• 40:56
Speaker 2: There, you can't take it back.
• 40:58
Speaker 13: You can't take it back, and it's out there, and
• 41:00
Speaker 13: so social media will definitely be a part of this conversation.
• 41:05
Speaker 13: So whether your social media, where your news, whether you're radio,
• 41:10
Speaker 13: this is for you, and this is for students. It's
• 41:14
Speaker 13: for student athletes, aspiring entrepreneurs, small businesses across industries. I
• 41:22
Speaker 13: feel like this could be a tool that any one
• 41:25
Speaker 13: of us could use.
• 41:26
Speaker 2: All right, give us all the details again, and the
• 41:28
Speaker 2: gets the phone number because you have to call to register.
• 41:30
Speaker 2: Segut the phone number again, So you.
• 41:32
Speaker 13: Have to call the register if you are interested, please
• 41:35
Speaker 13: give us a call as soon as you can. And
• 41:38
Speaker 13: that number is three zero four seven to zero one
• 41:42
  Speaker 13: four zero seven.
• 41:45
Speaker 2: And the dates and the location again, Yes.
• 41:47
Speaker 13: The dates are August twelfth and thirteenth. They're both full days.
• 41:53
Speaker 13: Registration and us getting settled is between eight thirty and
• 41:58
Speaker 13: nine and we start writing exactly at nine, so nine
• 42:02
Speaker 13: to four, so both are full days because we're going
• 42:05
Speaker 13: to need the entire time to be able to get
• 42:07
  Speaker 13: this done.
• 42:08
Speaker 2: And you know, I'm thinking about for business owners, maybe
• 42:10
Speaker 2: you want to send some of your staff over there. Absolutely, absolutely,
• 42:13
Speaker 2: so you're going to have people from big industries, but
• 42:15
Speaker 2: you're also going to have some individuals, some students, and
• 42:18
Speaker 2: it's gonna be a great mix of people you'd like
• 42:20
Speaker 2: to have. You back on afterwards, let us know how
• 42:21
Speaker 2: it goes. Absolutely, because I have a feeling this is
• 42:24
Speaker 2: going to be such a hit. You're going to be
• 42:25
Speaker 2: doing this several times.
• 42:26
Speaker 13: Yeah, I definitely foresee having this again, and I'm hoping
• 42:29
  Speaker 13: we do.
• 42:30
Speaker 2: Chanteyl, It's always pleasure to have you in the show.
• 42:32
Speaker 2: Appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot. Nine to forty
• 42:34

Speaker 2: It's okay, his finger on the dump button. No, we're

Speaker 2: all good. There is an unwritten rule that you aren't
• 49:58
Speaker 2: supposed to talk about your petitors in your market, but
• 50:03
Speaker 2: I am going to do that to a certain extent,
• 50:05
Speaker 2: and I mean in a good way. I'm going to
• 50:08
Speaker 2: mention a person at one of our competitors. I mentioned
• 50:10
Speaker 2: him rather than the exact station. His name is Kid Conley,
• 50:14
Speaker 2: and he actually worked here at ninety six one at
• 50:17
Speaker 2: one point downstairs from us, but he's with some of
• 50:22
Speaker 2: the other guys right now. And I'm going to just
• 50:23
Speaker 2: tell you quickly about Kid, or Larry as I know him.
• 50:28
Speaker 2: He and I were born on the same day in
• 50:31
Speaker 2: the same year, just a few hours apart, September twenty third,
• 50:34
Speaker 2: nineteen seventy cheap plug next month birthday month. We're both
• 50:38
Speaker 2: from Logan, and we started in the business at the
• 50:41
Speaker 2: same time in nineteen eighty eight at the long since
• 50:46
Speaker 2: deceased and dearly departed wlog in Logan, and our paths
• 50:51
Speaker 2: took us different directions, although you know, we did work
• 50:56
Speaker 2: together a few years in Logan twenty ten eleven or so,
• 51:01
Speaker 2: and worked there until I left there in twenty fourteen.
• 51:05
Speaker 2: Kid or Larry as I know him, announced yesterday via
• 51:08
Speaker 2: social media that he's leaving his station over there and
• 51:11
Speaker 2: actually hanging up the headphones for good. And that's why
• 51:14
Speaker 2: I'm bringing this up is he's effectively announced his retirement
• 51:20
Speaker 2: from the business. And he has two passions in life.
• 51:25
Speaker 2: One is a tattoo artist that's a new thing of
• 51:27
Speaker 2: his and taking care of his mama, which is a
• 51:31
Speaker 2: very admirable trait. And his mother, Terry, is a beautiful,
• 51:35
Speaker 2: beautiful lady, and she's had all kinds of health issues
• 51:37
Speaker 2: as late. And I just wanted to bring that up again.
• 51:40
Speaker 2: You know, I was supposed to talk about the other guys.
• 51:42
  Speaker 2: I didn't mention the station. I just said I'm talking
• 51:44
Speaker 2: about him, the guy. He and I started in this
• 51:48
Speaker 2: business together in March of nineteen eighty eight, actually starting
• 51:51
Speaker 2: before that at our high school radio station. And man,
• 51:55
Speaker 2: do we ever have stories? The stories most of them
• 51:59
Speaker 2: will come out afterward. Okay, I'm going to tell you
• 52:01
Speaker 2: that maybe it'll be a book or so. I'd like
• 52:02
Speaker 2: to have Matthew McConaughey play me by the way. We
• 52:04
Speaker 2: can make that happen. So de Larry Kid kindly, buddy,
• 52:07
Speaker 2: I wish you the best. All right, we got to go.
