- 0:00Speaker 1: I've been up a bit late last night. Many of
- 0:02Speaker 1: you have heard the shocking news about Whitney Houston, and
- 0:08Speaker 1: I share the shock and was just deeply stunned. I'm
- 0:12Speaker 1: going to ask the church to really reach out in
- 0:15Speaker 1: prayer for her family. Sometimes when you're a celebrity, people
- 0:20Speaker 1: forget that you're a person. But she's somebody's daughter, she's
- 0:27Speaker 1: somebody's mama, and her hearts are broken this morning and
- 0:32Speaker 1: they're grieving. While it is appropriate that she is a
- 0:35Speaker 1: mammoth talent beyond human expression her ability, I don't think
- 0:40Speaker 1: that we'll hear again in this generation a voice quite
- 0:44Speaker 1: like Whitney Houston. She just took you there. And I
- 1:14Speaker 1: believe to some degree the reason that so many people
- 1:17Speaker 1: are captivated and shaken by her loss is that not
- 1:21Speaker 1: only were we drawn in by her amazing talent, we
- 1:24Speaker 1: also saw her many struggles, and many of us begin
- 1:29Speaker 1: to understand and relate to what it's like to be
- 1:32Speaker 1: gifted and tormented in some way at the same time.
- 1:37Speaker 1: And for all of us who have ever overcome anything
- 1:40Speaker 1: or been through anything, and know you don't overcome anything
- 1:44Speaker 1: in a straight line, but sometimes you got it, and
- 1:47Speaker 1: sometime it's got you. We were rooting for her and
- 1:50Speaker 1: praying for her and standing with her, and so it's
- 1:55Speaker 1: quite an emotional roller coaster ride. This morning. I had
- 1:58Speaker 1: the privilege of working with Whitney on the remake of
- 2:02Speaker 1: Sparkle in Detroit, and it's an amazing thing. We were
- 2:09Speaker 1: able to finish the project and to capture the final film.
- 2:14Speaker 1: We didn't know it would be the final film that
- 2:16Speaker 1: she would do. She was amazing on the set and
- 2:19Speaker 1: so many things to be said about her talent and
- 2:21Speaker 1: her fierce quality. And we were calling each other back
- 2:24Speaker 1: and forth last night saying, little did we know that
- 2:28Speaker 1: when those cameras stopped rolling, that that would be the
- 2:30Speaker 1: last capturing of her in film. It pays so much
- 2:34Speaker 1: to do what God says, do when God says, do it,
- 2:40Speaker 1: with whom God says do it for. You don't know
- 2:45Speaker 1: the day nor the hour. And I want to challenge you,
- 2:48Speaker 1: as the believer, whenever you meet anybody from any walk
- 2:51Speaker 1: of life, no matter what you heard, no matter what
- 2:53Speaker 1: you think, no matter what you read, treat people with
- 2:56Speaker 1: love and respect and dignity because you don't know, You
- 3:00Speaker 1: just don't know. Come on, give God some praise. You
- 3:03Speaker 1: just don't know. You just don't know.
