- 0:07Nate Vainio: And I know scripture.
- 0:08Nate Vainio: But when this stuff would come over me and I would try to quote scripture, I couldn't get anything to come to my mind.
- 0:15Nate Vainio: And I remember when I first had this happen, I had the only scripture that would come to mind was John 1135.
- 0:25Nate Vainio: I remember teaching it to my kids, the first verse I ever talked to my kids.
- 0:29Nate Vainio: Because why Well, it's the shortest verse in scripture.
- 0:31Nate Vainio: The reference John 1135, has more syllables than the verse itself.
- 0:37Nate Vainio: Simply, it's Jesus wept.
- 0:38Nate Vainio: And I remember driving that forklift up and down those aisles and unloading dog food and putting dog food up and loading trucks and what have you?
- 0:44Nate Vainio: I would bet you that first night I probably said it is written John 11, 35, jesus wept.
- 0:52chataboutjesus.com: It is written.
- 0:53Nate Vainio: John 11, 35, jesus wept.
- 0:54Nate Vainio: And so this flood of anger and frustration and hurt and resentment, and what have you flooding over me?
- 1:00Nate Vainio: And I'm running up and down the aisles and if you could see my face in the podcast here, uh, you know, I mean my face is all wrinkled up cause I was quoting gritting my teeth.
- 1:09Nate Vainio: You know John 11, 35, just what you know.
- 1:12Nate Vainio: Before long, before long, my mind started shifting to processing this whole story.

- 2:39Daniel Moore: You have reached this once again.
- 2:41Daniel Moore: I'm glad you guys are here.
- 2:42Daniel Moore: Thank you for stopping by to check out this week's episode.
- 2:51Daniel Moore: Last week we started a two-part interview with Nate Vainio on the importance of the Bible and why we should apply that in our lives, all those scriptures, how they are powerful, how they can change us.
- 2:56Daniel Moore: Hope you guys got something from last week.
- 2:59Daniel Moore: We're going to wrap that up this week with part two of that series that we sat down and recorded and hopefully you'll receive something from this week as well.
- 3:08Daniel Moore: You know, more than half around 52 percent of older Gen Z between the ages of 22 and 26 say their lives have been transformed by Scripture.
- 3:17Daniel Moore: The younger Gen Z, ages of 18 to 21, outpace older Gen Z in Bible curiosity at 56% to 34%.
- 3:26Daniel Moore: 52% of Americans say they wish they read Scripture more, but only 14% say they have increased their Bible reading in the past year.
- 3:35Daniel Moore: Bible engagement improves human flourishing, a measurement encompassing happiness, close social relationships, purpose, mental and physical health, character and virtue, and financial stability.
- 3:48Daniel Moore: Practicing Christians registered 7.8 on the Human Flourishing Scale, compared to 6.9% for non-practicing Christians and 6.7% for non-believers.
- 4:01Daniel Moore: Those who volunteer at church are more than twice as likely to give at the highest financial level than those who don't, and community volunteers are 60% more likely to give at the highest level than those who don't volunteer in the community.
- 4:15Daniel Moore: Faith is stronger among adult Christians who have switched from their childhood religion, whether evangelical, historically black, protestant or mainline Protestant or Catholic.
- 4:27Daniel Moore: The Bible changes things.
- 4:28Daniel Moore: It changes our lives, and this week we're going to continue our discussion and help you to realize even more how important the Bible is in our life and how it stands the test of time, the truth of God's holy word.
- 4:41Daniel Moore: Without further ado, we're going to go ahead and let's get started into part two of this series with Nate Vainio.
- 4:47Daniel Moore: He is the host of Something to Gnaw On podcast.
- 4:50Daniel Moore: You'll need to check that out at somethingtognawoncom and we're going to go ahead now and get started into part two of our.
- 4:58Daniel Moore: You're breathing out at the same time.
- 5:13Nate Vainio: And the importance of that with regard to this conversation is when you go back to 2 Timothy 3.16, a lot of versions will say all scripture is given by inspiration of God.
- 5:40Nate Vainio: Inspiration, that translation is theo noustos in the greek, which theo would be god, noustos would be, uh, breathe, or air powered god, air powered I.
- 5:54Nate Vainio: I say air powered because for the guys that are out there, they would recognize the word pneumatic like a pneumatic tool right you know you can drive 10 nails with a, with a eighth of an inch movement of your trigger finger.
- 6:06Nate Vainio: You know, with an air nailer as opposed to swinging a hammer 40 times you know to put that many nails down.
- 6:12Nate Vainio: So there's power, there's God-breathed power in all of Scripture, and so when Jesus says man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Father, there's that dynamic of breath and word, and each word is thrust forward with breath, with power.
- 6:38Nate Vainio: And what's interesting is if—can we do a random crash course through the Bible.
- 6:48Daniel Moore: Sure.
- 6:50Nate Vainio: Sometimes, you know, there are those who do studies of the Bible that are more expository, like they'll go to a chapter and they will spend an hour or five Sundays, or you know whatever, in a chapter or a book or whatever.
- 7:03Nate Vainio: There are other times that you look at this and you follow a thread through Scripture, and that's what I want to do here real quick, and that is to go to Genesis, and we're going to hit a couple of different verses real quick here and go all the way to Revelation.
- 7:23Nate Vainio: Trust me, it'll go fast, but it's following a thread through Scripture that highlights the power of the word, the power of the breath, of God's breath, god's word coming out of his mouth and how powerful that is mouth and how powerful that is.
- 7:47Nate Vainio: And fold my hand here where we come back to with this is that when you look at that leather-bound Bible sitting on your coffee table, that is power.
- 7:54Nate Vainio: What is in there is power.
- 7:56Nate Vainio: The question as to whether or not we unleash it and get into it, that's another story, but that's a discipline issue, not an existence issue.
- 8:05Nate Vainio: So if we go to Genesis, just begin this thing right in the beginning in Genesis, how does God create?
- 8:13Nate Vainio: He speaks Power.
- 8:16Nate Vainio: Boom.
- 8:16Nate Vainio: Now that said, go to chapter 2, verse 7.
- 8:21Nate Vainio: Then the Lord, god, formed the man from the dust of the ground.
- 8:26Nate Vainio: Think about the intimacy of that.
- 8:28Nate Vainio: Everything else was kind of spoken, but he's getting with it.
- 8:32Nate Vainio: He's intimately acquainted with this thing.
- 8:35Nate Vainio: Then he breathed the breath of life into the man's nostrils and the man became a living person Deuteronomy 6.
- 8:55Nate Vainio: Let me back up.
- 8:56Nate Vainio: So power, that's.
- 9:00Nate Vainio: What separates us from everything else in creation is that we were created by an intentional breath.
- 9:04Nate Vainio: In addition to the fact that God created by speaking and that has breath to it, there's a level here that is above and beyond that.
- 9:10Nate Vainio: There's moving into Deuteronomy real quick.
- 9:18Nate Vainio: We'll come back to the breath deal.
- 9:20Nate Vainio: I'm just going to move through some of these books real quick.
- 9:23Nate Vainio: When Moses is teaching the Israelites about getting them ready to go into the promised land, he talks with them about Deuteronomy 6, verses 5.
- 9:35Nate Vainio: And he talks about this is one of the most famous.
- 9:37Nate Vainio: Jesus brings this up in the Gospels.
- 9:40Nate Vainio: He says you must love the Lord, your God, with all your heart and your soul and all your strength, and you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I'm giving you.
- 9:50Nate Vainio: Now here's what I wanted us to catch here real quick.
- 9:52Nate Vainio: It says repeat them again and again to your children.
- 9:56Nate Vainio: Talk about them when you're at home and on the road and when you're going to bed and when you're getting up.
- 10:05Nate Vainio: So when are you supposed to talk about all this stuff?
- 10:07Nate Vainio: You and I are supposed to be talking about this and we don't.
- 10:12Nate Vainio: And what's he talking about?
- 10:14Nate Vainio: God's word, so okay.
- 10:18Nate Vainio: So let's skip forward a couple.
- 10:20Nate Vainio: What do a couple of other Bible books have to say about it?
- 10:25Nate Vainio: Psalms david says the lord merely spoke and the heavens were created.
- 10:33Nate Vainio: He breathed the word and all the stars were born at the same time.
- 10:40Nate Vainio: Isaiah well, not at the same time technically, but I mean isaiah 11.4,.
- 10:44Nate Vainio: He says he will give justice to the poor and make fair decisions for the exploited.
- 10:49Nate Vainio: The earth will shake at the force of his word and one breath from him.
- 10:56Nate Vainio: John 20,.
- 10:58Nate Vainio: Here's another one, john 20,.
- 11:00Nate Vainio: This is after Jesus has resurrected, before he ascends, he manages to walk through the wall and catch the disciples there and he says Peace, be with you.
- 11:11Nate Vainio: As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.
- 11:14Nate Vainio: Then he breathed on them and said Receive the Holy Spirit.
- 11:19Nate Vainio: So now we see another aspect of the power is the Holy Spirit is transferred in a breath, you know.
- 11:30Nate Vainio: And then we get to 2 Timothy.
- 11:34Nate Vainio: About all scripture is God-breathed.
- 11:37Nate Vainio: Where that word now shifts.
- 11:43Nate Vainio: The metaphor, for the word shifts from breath to a two-edged sword.
- 11:51Nate Vainio: Listen to this, for the word of God, the word that we've been talking about, is alive and powerful.
- 11:56Nate Vainio: It's sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword cutting between soul and spirit, joint and marrow.
- 12:02Nate Vainio: It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
- 12:04Nate Vainio: Nothing in all creation is hidden from God.
- 12:08Nate Vainio: Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we're accountable.
- 12:20Nate Vainio: So, when you start getting into the word and letting the word get into you, that power that we're talking about here, the power that creates, the power that brought us to life, the power that, quite honestly, it's hard to say, but it brings judgment as well.
- 12:33Nate Vainio: But it brought this world into existence, it brought the stars, it brought you and me.
- 12:38Nate Vainio: It also has the ability to get down on a microscopic level and look at our hearts and say, okay, you're struggling, nate, with unforgiveness, and you're struggling with bitterness, and you're struggling.
- 12:51Nate Vainio: And it began to go.
- 12:52Nate Vainio: So, coming full circle, here it comes back.
- 12:55Nate Vainio: As I began to get into that word, this is what was the reality, was the power of the word was getting into me and it was starting to dissect things.
- 13:05Nate Vainio: And as I would begin to quote, as I would begin to quote, uh, scripture, in these times, not only and this, I think, is where the, the, the discipline, needs to turn a corner from Christianity uh one to Christianity 2.0 or something of that nature, where it's not just reading it in or hearing it in, but speaking it out.
- 13:34Daniel Moore: Yeah, and that's one thing you know.
- 13:36Daniel Moore: Take David, for instance.
- 13:39Daniel Moore: Yeah, he always liked to pray those dangerous prayers, what I call them.
- 13:43Daniel Moore: Yep, you know he'd come out and say out and say search my heart, god, psalm 139.
- 13:48Daniel Moore: Yeah, and a lot of us are scared to pray that prayer because we know what's inside there, we know God's going to see it.
- 13:56Daniel Moore: God already knows it's there anyway.
- 13:58Daniel Moore: But when we can actually come to that point where we can actually say that God, search me.
- 14:05Daniel Moore: If there's anything in there, I need this cleared out, I need this cleansed out, that's when we come to that point of humility.
- 14:12Daniel Moore: You know where we're actually able to change our life and get our priorities back straight.
- 14:17Daniel Moore: I think a lot of times.
- 14:18Daniel Moore: I love what you just walked through there.
- 14:22Daniel Moore: I 've actually never seen the scriptures put together like that before, and that was a new one for me and I really liked that.
- 14:28Daniel Moore: One thing that I think people something that was crossing my mind as you were talking there a lot of people, when they have strongholds in their life addictions or whatever you want to call them people turn around, they try to fight that stronghold, they try to go against that particular thing instead of realizing these strongholds that are in our lives.
- 14:48Daniel Moore: They're put there by a living deity, I guess is the best way to put it.
- 14:54Daniel Moore: You're fighting Satan.
- 14:55Daniel Moore: You're fighting him, all of his demonic forces, that spiritual warfare that's going on out there daily in the atmosphere above us.
- 15:03Daniel Moore: That's really where we need to be fighting.
- 15:06Daniel Moore: That's why that word is so important With Jesus.
- 15:10Daniel Moore: When you brought up the story about Jesus, when Satan took him to tempting, jesus used the word to fight back to him.
- 15:17Daniel Moore: That's a perfect example of how we fight this stuff that we have holding onto our life in these different areas.
- 15:23Daniel Moore: That's really the only way we, you know, have holding onto our life in these different areas.
- 15:25Daniel Moore: That's really the only way we can get over that.
- 15:27Nate Vainio: And the simplicity of the fight really becomes the ability to quote Scripture.
- 15:35Nate Vainio: And some people are going to listen into that and they're going to say what I mean.
- 15:40Nate Vainio: Don't we have to, you know, anoint with oil and be down at the altar and, you know, have this hallelujah ho down in the front, and you know, and don't we have to anoint with oil and be down at the altar and have this hallelujah ho down in the front.
- 15:47Nate Vainio: And don't get me wrong, I don't want to downplay the dynamic of spiritually addressing these things in prayer.
- 16:03Nate Vainio: Don't want to do that at all.
- 16:06Nate Vainio: But I'm amazed at the power and the simplicity of the spoken word and I led into it a moment ago and let me finish up the story.
- 16:24Nate Vainio: It was I would be driving my forklift and those thoughts would come over me, and they would come over me in a wave.
- 16:29Nate Vainio: I mean, if anybody out there is listening to this that has ever experienced it, I pray God would bring it to their mind right now to where they could connect with this, Because there are times where those thought processes will hit you like a flood or a wave and they'll just blitz you.
- 16:46Nate Vainio: And listen, I grew up in the church.
- 16:48Nate Vainio: I mean we used to sing Bible songs as a kid.
- 16:50Nate Vainio: We would sing scripture and when I say that we'd seen scripture, memory verse songs as opposed to just songs.
- 16:58Nate Vainio: So I remember that and I know scripture.
- 17:03Nate Vainio: But when this stuff would come over me and I would try to quote scripture, I couldn't get anything to come to my mind.
- 17:10Nate Vainio: And I remember when I first had this happen, I had the only scripture that would come to mind was John 11, 35.
- 17:20Nate Vainio: I remember teaching it to my kids, the first verse I ever talked to my kids because why, well, it's the shortest verse in Scripture.
- 17:25Nate Vainio: The reference John 11, 35, has more syllables than the verse itself.
- 17:31Nate Vainio: Simply, it's Jesus wept.
- 17:32Nate Vainio: And I remember driving that forklift up and down those aisles and unloading dog food and putting dog food up and loading trucks and what have you.
- 17:39Nate Vainio: And just I would bet you that first night I probably said it is written John 11, 35, jesus wept.
- 17:46Nate Vainio: It is written John 11, 35, jesus wept.
- 17:49Nate Vainio: And so this flood of anger and frustration and hurt and resentment and what have you?
- 17:54Nate Vainio: Flooding over me?
- 17:54Nate Vainio: And I'm running up and down the aisles and if you could see my face in the podcast here, you know, I mean my face is all wrinkled up because I was quoting.
- 18:02Nate Vainio: You grit my teeth.
- 18:03Nate Vainio: You know.
- 18:04Nate Vainio: John 1135.
- 18:06Nate Vainio: You know, before long, before long, my mind started shifting to processing this whole story John 1135.
- 18:16Nate Vainio: Jesus wept.
- 18:17Nate Vainio: John 1135.
- 18:19Nate Vainio: Jesus, the king of kings, the God man who doesn't have to weep, is weeping, and I'm beginning to process this.
- 18:29Nate Vainio: And what happened was is that process of the word being spoken in that moment drowned out, chased out?
- 18:39Nate Vainio: That attack?
- 18:43Nate Vainio: And I still do it today.
- 18:46Nate Vainio: When I feel those things come on, I begin to quote scripture.
- 18:49Nate Vainio: And so they.
- 18:51Nate Vainio: So they're.
- 18:54Nate Vainio: And it reveals in our conversation, though, kind of a secondary problem that we we aren't able to address with the statistics from Barna or this other deal is.
- 19:03Nate Vainio: It's one thing to get into it, it's another thing to say, hey, have you hidden the word in your heart that you can quote it, that you can, or are you so dependent upon technology, that which is not necessarily a bad thing, but, you know, if you're in a job or something comes up like that, do you have it on instant recall where you can quote?
- 19:23Nate Vainio: You know psalm 51 yeah, you know, created me a clean heart.
- 19:29Nate Vainio: Oh god, renew right spirit within me.
- 19:31Nate Vainio: Yeah, you know, and the only reason I can know know how to say that.
- 19:34Nate Vainio: Do you remember back when we used to sing songs?
- 19:36Nate Vainio: Yeah, that were actually scripture.
- 19:38Nate Vainio: I mean, it wasn't somebody's lyrics, it was like just somebody putting music to.
- 19:43Daniel Moore: Yeah, I remember those days it was a lot of them.
- 19:46Nate Vainio: Yeah, I was thinking about that and I really wish and I don't want to be like the old curmudgeon I really wish some of our and I hope somebody would hear this and run with it and not take it as a pot shot I really wish somebody would step up and begin to put more Scripture back to music.
- 20:07Nate Vainio: And part of the reason for saying that is one yeah, I think there's a void there.
- 20:14Nate Vainio: But two, as far as an ability to remember Scripture, the musical side of it, if you can put that to music, the musical side of it, if you can put that to music, I uncovered a uh, the other the other day.
- 20:29Nate Vainio: I was um looking for something in the garage in a in a in a uh basket and what have you.
- 20:32Nate Vainio: And I found an old cassette tape from my time out in the Seattle area and, uh, there was, we had a youth, um, we had a youth uh sponsor and they had a band called Inside Out and they were good people, really good people.
- 20:50Nate Vainio: One of the songs, they had some really cool songs and they were kind of cutting edge, I think for the time.
- 20:55Nate Vainio: I don't think they ever really made it big in terms of the musical world or what have you.
- 21:02Nate Vainio: But one of the things that they did on there is they put Psalm 51 to music and I still haven't popped that cassette back in, but that would have been 1988, 89, and I can still quote Psalm 51, based upon my remembrance of his song.
- 21:23Nate Vainio: Now, he brought the music but the words are scripture, and so there's that dynamic to that and I think, bringing this to some extent kind of full circle back to the idea of why we did the podcast, the crash course or what have you, there is that element of getting into scripture, but there's also this element of letting the scripture get into you in such a way that you can speak it out.
- 21:55Nate Vainio: Yeah, and what's interesting about that as well is.
- 21:59Nate Vainio: So let me take these verses.
- 22:02Nate Vainio: You ready to go one step higher?
- 22:05Nate Vainio: Sure, kick it one step higher here.
- 22:07Nate Vainio: So, okay, we're talking about the breath of God, the word of God.
- 22:11Nate Vainio: We see the power in that, from Genesis through Psalms and you know that we could dig a lot deeper through those books as well.
- 22:20Nate Vainio: But we're crash course in this thing, right.
- 22:21Nate Vainio: Well, but we're just, we're crash course in this thing, right.
- 22:22Nate Vainio: So we get to hebrews and it shifts the metaphor a bit to the word of god being like a two-edged sword.
- 22:32Nate Vainio: When you turn a few more pages and you get to the book of revelation, john, in revelation 1, john's John's picture of Jesus in heaven is white, flowing hair, red eyes, eyes of fire.
- 22:51Nate Vainio: He's got the keys to death, hell and the grave in his hands.
- 22:54Nate Vainio: He's got feet of bronze polished bronze, I think it says, and a golden sash and what have you?
- 23:01Nate Vainio: And it talks about a two-edged.
- 23:05Nate Vainio: It doesn't just say a sword, it says a two-edged sword coming out of his mouth.
- 23:13Nate Vainio: And so when you start thinking about the judgment and stuff in Revelation, that's where it's at.
- 23:17Nate Vainio: When he addresses the church at Pergamum in Revelation 2.
- 23:20Nate Vainio: , he identifies himself that it's really a unique deal.
- 23:26Nate Vainio: And then, to cap it off, at the end, in chapter 19, he again identifies himself, or he identifies Christ, by the two-edged sword that is coming to judge, and the power in that, power in that, and it's just, it's a picture of the word coming out of the mouth and how powerful that is.
- 23:52Nate Vainio: Yeah, how powerful that word that you and I have on our table that's collecting dust, maybe, maybe not, but what we have access to, how powerful that is in our lives, yeah, and I got a statistic here.
- 24:06Daniel Moore: It says that 52% of Americans say they wish they read scripture more, but only 14% say that they have increased their Bible reading in the past year, and this was done in 2023.
- 24:18Daniel Moore: So we're just a year into this here.
- 24:21Daniel Moore: I think.
- 24:23Daniel Moore: You know, when I read that, I can think of case after case after case of people that I know personally that are in that boat.
- 24:33Daniel Moore: You know they, I have friends that come up and they're like you know, man, I don't know how you do that podcast and do that every week, and you know all the Bible studying and all.
- 24:44Daniel Moore: I just don't think I could do that.
- 24:45Daniel Moore: You know, and you always hear stuff like that and it's like you know it's.
- 24:51Daniel Moore: Yeah, it takes time, you know, but God has put this in my heart and I have a priority to make sure that I fulfill what God has called me to do, and I love the word of God.
- 25:04Daniel Moore: You know I want to be in it.
- 25:08Daniel Moore: I want to learn more.
- 25:09Daniel Moore: I'm 52 years old.
- 25:10Daniel Moore: I've been in church my whole life, but I really feel like it's just been within this last 10 years that I've really come to an understanding of the Word of God and what it truly can and can't.
- 25:20Daniel Moore: You know what it can do in our life and our battles and all that kind of thing and when we can understand that.
- 25:27Daniel Moore: You know, I just finished up a several-month series on spiritual warfare and when you were talking about learning the Scripture the very last episode that just released this week actually one of the steps of being able to help fight against spiritual warfare especially if you are praying over someone that's got a possession in their life or some demonic possession going on or that kind of thing you need to know the Word.
- 25:56Daniel Moore: That's one of the steps.
- 25:57Daniel Moore: You need to know the Word before you go into that battle.
- 26:00Daniel Moore: I mean, we can pray and we can have some of these different steps or whatever, but if we don't have the word and be able to because that's how Jesus did it, that's you know that was demonic warfare.
- 26:13Daniel Moore: That day when Satan took him and was tempting him, that was demonic spiritual warfare.
- 26:18Daniel Moore: And anytime you think about that story, what's the primary thing that comes out of that that took place?
- 26:26Daniel Moore: He spoke scripture.
- 26:28Daniel Moore: I mean it just it all comes back to that.
- 26:30Nate Vainio: What's interesting, too, is in this moment.
- 26:34Nate Vainio: Okay, so we're just step back and use a quick snapshot of our conversation here.
- 26:39Nate Vainio: You know, we're talking about the spiritual attack in that moment and how to deal with that.
- 26:47Nate Vainio: There's three levels in which that attack comes.
- 26:54Nate Vainio: You know, in addition to that, in the conversation we're talking about the personal struggles that we have.
- 26:58Nate Vainio: You know, what's interesting is you get to John.
- 27:03Nate Vainio: 1, john and John.
- 27:04Nate Vainio: How does John talk about you?
- 27:07Nate Vainio: The deeds, the issues of this world, the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life.
- 27:13Nate Vainio: What levels did the devil attack Jesus at Now?
- 27:20Nate Vainio: A lot of times when we say lust of the eye, we think in an immoral sense, but the word deals with desire.
- 27:27Nate Vainio: The word is easily translated, or accurately I should say accurately translated desire, and it can definitely include that, but it could be the desires of the eye, the desires of the flesh and the pride of life.
- 27:43Nate Vainio: And that's what those, those three temptations, address.
- 27:47Nate Vainio: Yeah, interestingly enough, go back to genesis and the temptation in the garden.
- 27:54Nate Vainio: What was it that eve said about she saw?
- 27:58Nate Vainio: Yeah, that it was pleasing to the eyes, good for food and could make them wise.
- 28:03Nate Vainio: Yeah, less than the eye, less than the flesh, the pride for food and could make them wise Lust of the eye, lust of the flesh, the pride of life, and it's those three.
- 28:15Nate Vainio: And that's where we're attacked when we have those struggles, when we have those strongholds.
- 28:18Nate Vainio: And to abandon an idea of looking at this, of reading scripture or whatever, abandons the solution to the very problem that every one of us is going to face in this life.
- 28:26Daniel Moore: Yeah, and we've been facing it since day one.
- 28:29Daniel Moore: Yep, it's what's crazy about it.
- 28:31Daniel Moore: And ignoring it, ignoring it.
- 28:34Nate Vainio: I read something today they were talking about something else completely, but it says ignoring the truth doesn't absolve you from the consequences of the truth.
- 28:42Nate Vainio: Yep, that's very good.
- 28:44Nate Vainio: I like that you don't have to believe it.
- 28:47Nate Vainio: You don't, but your life's going to be an absolute mess and you can't ignore that.
- 28:52Daniel Moore: Yep, that's right.
- 28:53Daniel Moore: So, yeah, it's amazing to me that you know, thousands of years ago, when Adam and Eve was in that garden, satan's using that same tactic to this day, very, very successfully.
- 29:06Daniel Moore: It just never ceases to blow my mind.
- 29:09Daniel Moore: We're sitting in with Nate Vainio this week with Something to Not On podcast.
- 29:14Daniel Moore: He's the host of that podcast talking about the importance of God's Word.
- 29:19Daniel Moore: We're going to take a break here for a moment and when we come back, we're going to continue and conclude this two-part series with Nate Vineo.
- 29:27Daniel Moore: We'll be back right after this.
- 29:37chataboutjesus.com: I was recently at a rehearsal dinner and everyone was enjoying photos of the engaged couple through the years of life leading up to their wedding.
- 29:44chataboutjesus.com: Some went back to their early childhood and someone commented on how different the bride-to-be looked back then.
- 29:51chataboutjesus.com: In elementary school, Everyone was enjoying the laugh at the 12-year-old version of her, and then she said hey, that was me, but it's not me anymore.
- 30:01chataboutjesus.com: She said, hey, that was me, but it's not me anymore.
- 30:04chataboutjesus.com: Comparing that picture to the present reflected a complete transformation.
- 30:07chataboutjesus.com: Jesus Christ wants to do that for you on the inside by forgiving every sin of your past.
- 30:14chataboutjesus.com: He died for your sins on the cross and he can transform you from the inside out.
- 30:21chataboutjesus.com: If you'd like to learn how to begin a relationship with Jesus Christ, you can call or text us at 888-NEED-HIM.
- 30:30Daniel Moore: That's 888-NEED-HIM welcome back to the podcast this week.
- 31:00Daniel Moore: I'm'm Daniel Moore this is Connecting the Gap and we've been sitting in with Nate Vainio.
- 31:05Daniel Moore: He's the host of Some Things Not on Podcast.
- 31:07Daniel Moore: He's a fellow churchgoer of mine.
- 31:09Daniel Moore: He's been doing some excellent episodes this year on his podcast on studying the Bible.
- 31:15Daniel Moore: He's been doing a quick crash course through the Old Testament at this point, just trying to pique your interest a little bit into what's in God's Word and why it's important that we should be studying it.
- 31:25Daniel Moore: So we're going to go ahead now and get into the second part of this week's episode as we conclude with Nate Vainio, the host of Something to Know on podcast.
- 31:36Daniel Moore: It seems like when you think of the spiritual, the warfare that's going on out there between you know the good and the evil, satan and Jesus and all this stuff that we have going on.
- 31:45Daniel Moore: It sounds so complicated, you know, when you sit there and think about it, but in all reality it's not.
- 31:50Daniel Moore: He has these simple little tools that he knows is going to take us down if we're not watching.
- 31:56Daniel Moore: You know, like the Bible tells us, we've always got to be watching and ready.
- 32:01Daniel Moore: He's prowling around like a lion, just waiting to devour us and to chew us up and spit us back out and if we're not careful, he accomplishes what he's trying to do and leaves us in the dust.
- 32:13Daniel Moore: And we're sitting there thinking what in the world just happened a while ago and it just never ceases to amaze me.
- 32:19Daniel Moore: I mean, I look back at my own life I'm speaking to the choir.
- 32:23Daniel Moore: I mean I think of all the times that, like I said earlier, I grew up in church, but it doesn't mean that I was a Christian my whole life.
- 32:28Daniel Moore: You know, there was times I was stupid and went my own way and did my own thing.
- 32:32Daniel Moore: I fell for it, just like everybody else did, you know, and none of us are exempt from that, and we have to make sure that our priorities are there and that, you know, we've got to want that relationship with God in order to nurture that.
- 32:47Daniel Moore: So, as we close the podcast this week again, you're listening to Connecting the Gap podcast and I'm Daniel Moore, the host here, with Nate Vainio this week who is the host of Something to Knot on podcast.
- 32:58Daniel Moore: We've been talking about the Bible here over these episodes here and how it's important in our life.
- 33:06Daniel Moore: It's probably, in my opinion, probably one of the most overlooked important things that we have in our life in a lot of cases, unfortunately, I know.
- 33:16Daniel Moore: You know, nate and I we've talked a little bit about it here this evening off the mic, but just how people have a tendency sometimes, you know, just going to church on Sunday and that's the extent of it, you know they leave church and then the rest of the week is for their time and all that kind of thing.
- 33:34Daniel Moore: You know, if we're going to be successful in this battle that we're in because we all know that we're in a battle and Satan's not going to stop.
- 33:45Daniel Moore: He's going to keep fighting us until the day that we die.
- 33:48Daniel Moore: Nobody's exempt from that and if we really want to be successful in this walk that we have of life and get to those rewards that God promises us someday once we reach heaven, that's going to require a little bit of work on our part.
- 34:05Daniel Moore: We can't just sit back in the chair and relax and, you know, just kind of cruise along on the ride here and not do our part, because Satan's not going to let that happen.
- 34:13Daniel Moore: He's going to be coming after us and making sure that we've got some trouble along the way and trying to get us to.
- 34:20Daniel Moore: You know, do things that we shouldn't be doing sometimes, and he sure gives us a lot of time fillers also to fill our times with things that really are pretty shallow.
- 34:31Daniel Moore: But you know the Bible.
- 34:33Daniel Moore: Not only is it a roadmap for us, for our life, not only does it lay out the plan of salvation, the reason that we are here.
- 34:42Daniel Moore: There's so many things about life that we can learn just by reading God's Word.
- 34:47Daniel Moore: But I've got a few things here that I want to leave with you guys this week as we wrap this episode up.
- 34:54Daniel Moore: One of the things that the Bible does is how God reveals His character.
- 34:58Daniel Moore: In Exodus 34, as he was passing in front of Moses, moses was proclaiming the Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.
- 35:16Daniel Moore: Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished.
- 35:19Daniel Moore: He punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.
- 35:24Daniel Moore: Here in that one, those two scriptures, that scope of two scriptures right there, moses describes how God is a loving God, how he cares and he loves us so much, but yet he's also a just God.
- 35:36Daniel Moore: Whenever we're wrong and we do things that we shouldn't.
- 35:40Daniel Moore: He's not beyond chastising us for that.
- 35:42Daniel Moore: God is so many things and the Bible explains that to us.
- 35:47Daniel Moore: It gives us instruction for daily life.
- 35:49Daniel Moore: It teaches us how to pray.
- 35:51Daniel Moore: You know, I know a lot of people and you probably do as well, nate that says they don't know how to pray.
- 35:55Daniel Moore: You know, or if you ask them to pray, they get embarrassed and, you know, stumble through some words or whatever.
- 36:01Daniel Moore: It's just not something that they make a regular practice in their life.
- 36:04Daniel Moore: And it's not like we have to be scholars in praying by any means whatsoever.
- 36:11Daniel Moore: Jesus, he prayed a lot of very short prayers when he was walking this earth.
- 36:15Daniel Moore: It doesn't have to be a scholarly thing, it just needs to come from our heart.
- 36:20Daniel Moore: And of course, in the Bible, in Luke, it gives us a little map there about how we can pray.
- 36:26Daniel Moore: You know Jesus was teaching how to pray.
- 36:29Daniel Moore: It also explains the gospel and, of course, without the gospel we don't have a reason to live.
- 36:34Daniel Moore: We don't have a place that we're going to be going someday if we don't understand what the gospel truly is.
- 36:41Daniel Moore: And it also explains us how to share that gospel, once that we do have it, to share it with others.
- 36:46Daniel Moore: It teaches us how to trust God.
- 36:48Daniel Moore: It shows us what God's will is and what's one of the biggest questions that you, especially when you get into church leadership, if you become like a youth pastor or a life group leader or whatever.
- 36:59Daniel Moore: I don't know how many times I've been asked how do you know the will of God?
- 37:04Daniel Moore: I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing in my life.
- 37:06Daniel Moore: How do I figure that out?
- 37:08Daniel Moore: I don't know how many times I've heard that 1992.
- 37:13Nate Vainio: Could I bust?
- 37:14Nate Vainio: in with just a crazy little 1992, I graduated from high school and we had three high schools in town and they all got together for a baccalaureate service and they had one student from each deal got five minutes to share a Bible verse or something graduation to about 3,000 people.
- 37:39Nate Vainio: It was the most people I've ever spoken to and what was funny about it was I just read that verse and just a brief description of hey, we're getting ready to go to college, we're going to want to know what God's will is for us.
- 37:51Nate Vainio: So this is what we got to do.
- 37:53Nate Vainio: Don't conform to the pattern.
- 37:54Nate Vainio: And I remember people who just showed up because it was a graduation thing to do.
- 37:59Nate Vainio: It came up and was like man, I liked how you, you didn't just read it, you explained it.
- 38:06Daniel Moore: You know what?
- 38:08Nate Vainio: I'll never forget that.
- 38:09Nate Vainio: It was that.
- 38:11Nate Vainio: I'm sorry you probably cut this out of the deal there, but it was just.
- 38:13Nate Vainio: I've always loved that verse for that reason, and you were talking about just needing to know God's will.
- 38:22Nate Vainio: That's right where the instruction is right there.
- 38:26Daniel Moore: Yeah, you know.
- 38:27Daniel Moore: And of course, if we're going to know what God's will is, we've got to have that desire to want to fulfill the will.
- 38:34Daniel Moore: If we get it, you know it's like, and along with that comes reading the word and prayer time.
- 38:39Daniel Moore: There's a lot involved there, so you have to be dedicated and have your priorities where they need to be.
- 38:44Daniel Moore: But Romans 12, too is the Scripture that we're referencing there for showing us what God's will is.
- 38:51Daniel Moore: The Bible's also full of God's promises.
- 38:53Daniel Moore: I mean, what do we have to live for if we don't know that God's promised us some things in this life?
- 38:59Daniel Moore: You know and it's such a sweet thing to know that God cares about us and loves us so much that he gives us promises and things to look for in our daily life.
- 39:09Daniel Moore: Deuteronomy 31.8,.
- 39:11Daniel Moore: The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you.
- 39:13Daniel Moore: He will never leave you nor forsake you.
- 39:15Daniel Moore: Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged.
- 39:17Daniel Moore: That's probably one of the best promises that we could ever have as a Christian.
- 39:21Daniel Moore: Is that God's right there by our side.
- 39:23Daniel Moore: It's historically accurate and it's interesting because there's not probably a month that goes by that if I get on the computer and I open up my browser and it goes to msncom or somewhere.
- 39:37Daniel Moore: I'll see a story somewhere where some other historical fact has been proven.
- 39:43Daniel Moore: That was in the Bible and I love it every time I see one of those articles.
- 39:47Daniel Moore: You know, because we have so many atheists out there that don't think any of this is true.
- 39:51Daniel Moore: But yet on a yearly basis, time and time again, the Bible is proven to be historically accurate.
- 39:59Daniel Moore: And we talked a little bit about forgiveness earlier.
- 40:01Daniel Moore: You know, forgiveness is a very hard thing to do.
- 40:04Daniel Moore: Even as a Christian, it's hard for us to forgive people sometimes.
- 40:06Daniel Moore: But the Bible teaches us how to do that and how to be a forgiving person.
- 40:11Daniel Moore: It's full of truth and there's no doubt about it.
- 40:14Daniel Moore: The Bible we talked about how the parables, you know, versus the actual, real stories that actually happened.
- 40:21Daniel Moore: A lot of people like to think that the Bible's figurative and you know Jesus did use some parable-style stories at times to get his point across.
- 40:31Daniel Moore: But I actually did an episode here last week it was a short on when the sun stood still and when Joshua was fighting that battle and he asked for God to stop the moon and the sun while they fought that battle.
- 40:48Daniel Moore: And you know one of the outlooks on that story by some scholars.
- 40:53Daniel Moore: They think that was just a figurative story.
- 40:56Daniel Moore: If you start studying into that a little bit, there's actually a belief out there that that was just figurative.
- 41:01Daniel Moore: It's like a poetic type story story like you hear sometimes in ancient scripts.
- 41:06Daniel Moore: But in all reality we can't look at it that way, because if we consider certain stories to be figurative in the Bible then we're going to have a tendency to think other stories are figurative and we know that's not it.
- 41:18Daniel Moore: The Bible is the literal Word of God.
- 41:21Daniel Moore: It's full of truth.
- 41:23Daniel Moore: Everything that's quoted in there and said in there comes from the mouth of the Father, and so we always have to understand that it is full of truth and the truth is what sets us free.
- 41:32Daniel Moore: It also asks and it answers big questions, sometimes questions we don't like to be asked ourselves.
- 41:39Daniel Moore: It kind of reads our mail, so to speak.
- 41:41Daniel Moore: But in many ways we need that sometimes to get us back on track.
- 41:48Daniel Moore: It's culturally relevant, as we started out, this podcast with those statistics of how it's the best-selling book ever holds Guinness Book of World Records.
- 41:58Daniel Moore: There's not a book out there that can say that, because a lot of books that have been written over time by man.
- 42:03Daniel Moore: They don't fit today, they're not really culturally relevant.
- 42:08Daniel Moore: But the Bible is one book that, from the very beginning of time, has always stayed relevant to where we're at today, and a scripture there is Ecclesiastes 1.9.
- 42:18Daniel Moore: What has been will be again.
- 42:20Daniel Moore: What has been done will be done again.
- 42:22Daniel Moore: There is nothing new under the sun, and that Bible is always going to be relevant until the end of time.
- 42:30Daniel Moore: And the number 14 reason it reveals how much God loves us.
- 42:34Daniel Moore: I think that there's really.
- 42:36Daniel Moore: You know, things can happen to us in life and God can take care of us.
- 42:41Daniel Moore: He can work miracles in our life, he can supply our needs.
- 42:44Daniel Moore: But, you know, sometimes as human beings those things become superficial to us and we have a tendency to forget.
- 42:51Daniel Moore: You know, god supplies this or he supplies that.
- 42:55Daniel Moore: Several years down the road we forget about that.
- 42:58Daniel Moore: You know, the Bible is there to remind us over and over how much God really loves us and what he did when he gave his son to go on that cross and when Jesus gave his life and took those stripes for our salvation and our healing.
- 43:10Daniel Moore: There's no greater love than that, and so I just want to thank you, nate, for coming in here and sitting in with me this week.
- 43:18Nate Vainio: This is so we've been discussing for a while.
- 43:22Daniel Moore: This has been awesome.
- 43:23Daniel Moore: I think that after listening to this podcast, with with what you've delivered here and what what we've discussed and everything, I don't think anybody have any excuse not to pick that Bible up.
- 43:34Daniel Moore: That's that cover off.
- 43:36Daniel Moore: Go check it out.
- 43:38Nate Vainio: You know one of the best things you can do.
- 43:41Nate Vainio: You know one of the best things you can do.
- 43:43Nate Vainio: You know if you're listening and you're at that place where you listen in, but you have a hard time making that next step.
- 43:51Nate Vainio: One don't feel guilt, don't feel encouragement.
- 43:59Nate Vainio: Don't feel guilt, Don't feel encouragement.
- 44:04Nate Vainio: We want the best for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
- 44:07Nate Vainio: Yes, god wants his best for you.
- 44:10Nate Vainio: God knows you, he wants you to know him.
- 44:13Nate Vainio: That's right, and getting into the word, and it's good.
- 44:19Nate Vainio: This medium of podcasting and Christian radio, whatever, is great, but we've got to.
- 44:27Nate Vainio: We've got to do better.
- 44:29Nate Vainio: You and I have spurring people to a place where they get into this, and so if you, if there's, as we're talking about this, if you feel that please know it's an encouragement that there's something more for you there.
- 44:43Nate Vainio: And the best thing to do when you grab that Bible is to say, lord, speak to me, speak to me in a special way.
- 44:52Nate Vainio: I was reading a story.
- 44:53Nate Vainio: I'm sorry I could probably go on for hours here talking about this, but I was reading a story yesterday that I'll be incorporating into my podcast.
- 45:04Nate Vainio: I don't know if that podcast will be coming out before this one is, so I don't know which one is tipping its hand to the other, but these guys were escaping out of Romania during the Cold War, trying to get out of religious persecution, and one of the three men was having second thoughts about making the escape and he prayed and he said, lord, if you want me to do this, please show me.
- 45:35Nate Vainio: And he begins to open his Bible and begins to read in there and there's a very distinct moment, a very distinct verse right there, that he speaks there, that God revealed to him in that moment.
- 45:45Nate Vainio: And to this day, these two guys are in Nashville.
- 45:48Nate Vainio: One is a pastor in Phoenix, arizona, and I won't tip the hand of the story of the miraculous layer upon a miracle, layered upon another miracle, on another miracle, to get those guys out of there.
- 46:04Nate Vainio: But the spur in his side to get him to do what he needed to do came in the form of reading scripture and God revealing himself, god directing him to one specific passage in there.
- 46:18Nate Vainio: And so, like I was saying, if you're listening in and you've not been in the word and you don't know where to start, just pray, lord, lead me.
- 46:25Nate Vainio: Where do I need to dive in?
- 46:26Nate Vainio: What do I need to do?
- 46:28Daniel Moore: And don't think that you have to just go in the deepest dive ever right off the bat.
- 46:33Daniel Moore: You know everything is baby steps.
- 46:35Daniel Moore: You know Nate and I we're sitting.
- 46:37Daniel Moore: You know I'm three years, a little over three years into my podcast here and I know you're well over two at this point, a year and a half, a year and a half or so, you know, and don't think that we just you know, was born and then we hatched this podcast idea right off the bat.
- 46:54Daniel Moore: We've been around the block a few times and we've still got a lot to learn.
- 46:59Daniel Moore: I mean, I learn every week when I put an episode out, when I do my studying and everything I learn all the time.
- 47:05Daniel Moore: That's not ever going to stop until the day that we die.
- 47:08Daniel Moore: So you know, I know that's an excuse I hear a lot is it's the word is overwhelming.
- 47:14Daniel Moore: They get into the word and they just get overwhelmed.
- 47:18Daniel Moore: And I think, from what I've gathered, every time I that happen, it's because they're trying to dig into way too much too soon and then it just gets overwhelming to them and then they just can't proceed.
- 47:29Nate Vainio: You know, Ecclesiastes may not be the first book you want to go.
- 47:32Daniel Moore: Exactly yeah.
- 47:34Nate Vainio: I just pray, Lord, lead me, lead me, open my eyes, speak to my heart and show me what you want me to see of you, and then I know you've got a couple of episodes.
- 47:43Daniel Moore: I think that would kind of go along with what we spoke about here.
- 47:46Daniel Moore: If you want to tell about those, yeah.
- 47:48Nate Vainio: So if this conversation has kind of tripped a trigger with you that you have more questions about, um, there's one episode, one of the I would call it almost a flagship episode of mine.
- 48:00Nate Vainio: Uh was called death to pepe.
- 48:00Nate Vainio: It's a it's of mine was called Death to Pepe.
- 48:02Nate Vainio: It's a story, if you remember Pepe Le Pew, the character from the cartoon era, a bygone era.
- 48:11Nate Vainio: There it kind of puts a fun story together with the serious nature of how actually speaking God's word can really set you free from the skunks in life and I refer to the devil as a skunk, and I don't regret that.
- 48:29Nate Vainio: I don't take it back and I don't apologize for it.
- 48:31Nate Vainio: So if you're interested in digging into that a little more, that would be a great episode to check out.
- 48:38Nate Vainio: Another thing that Daniel touched on was the idea of the amount of time People say they don't have time for this or time for that.
- 48:46Nate Vainio: One of the least listened to episodes that I have how's that?
- 48:55Nate Vainio: One of the least listened to episodes is called Tithing your Time and I think if you have a hard time getting into scripture, I would really encourage you to take a listen to that episode.
- 49:09Nate Vainio: The devil has gone overboard in his efforts to drown us and to get us so busy that we don't have the time to do the things that we need to do and you end up with a bunch of anemic Christians who don't know how to quote scripture, and I would say that it's a little more of a halftime coach's speech in the locker room when you're down by five, you know, or something like that.
- 49:35Nate Vainio: But by the same token, I think it's a very necessary look that people need to take at how we are we letting culture dictate how we spend our time or are we going to let Scripture dictate how we're going to spend our time?
- 49:54Nate Vainio: So, if you're curious about that and what that would look like, that episode Tithing your Time and then the other one is Death to Pepe yeah, and those would be be if you go and look at, we'll have.
- 50:04Nate Vainio: I suppose we could put links to those.
- 50:06Nate Vainio: We can do that and, uh, go from there.
- 50:08Nate Vainio: So, hey, thanks so much for the opportunity.
- 50:10Nate Vainio: Daniel, this has been, um, you know, it's one thing to sit in your sound studio and record your own stuff and put it up there.
- 50:19Nate Vainio: It's another to actually have a conversation with a live human being, and this is fun, this is good.
- 50:24Daniel Moore: Yeah, it kind of takes it on a whole different path.
- 50:27Nate Vainio: Yeah, and I appreciate the for those.
- 50:30Nate Vainio: Obviously, most of those who are listening are your listeners, not mine.
- 50:34Nate Vainio: I would say Daniel has been a godsend to me for a sounding board in terms of bouncing ideas on doing this.
- 50:45Nate Vainio: When I started into the podcast world, I had no idea how to record anything.
- 50:51Nate Vainio: I had no equipment.
- 50:52Nate Vainio: I had no background whatsoever, so this is total new territory for me and your assistance and perspective on things has just been a godsend.
- 51:06Nate Vainio: So thank you very much.
- 51:06Nate Vainio: It is much much appreciated.
- 51:08Daniel Moore: Yep, you're welcome.
- 51:09Daniel Moore: You've got an excellent podcast.
- 51:12Daniel Moore: It's inspired me in many ways and I just pray blessings over your ministry as well and everything that you're endeavoring here Together.
- 51:21Daniel Moore: We're going to just give the devil a black eye.
- 51:23Daniel Moore: We're just going to take care of it.
- 51:24Daniel Moore: We've got several podcasting buddies that live right here close, and we all conspire between each other here occasionally.
- 51:32Daniel Moore: So it's a good network, that's for sure.
- 51:34Daniel Moore: It sure is so well.
- 51:36Daniel Moore: I do appreciate you coming as well and spending your time here and, like I said earlier, we're going to have Nate back again and appreciate you coming as well and spending your time here and, like I said earlier, we're going to have Nate back again and we're going to take off on a different subject the next time around.
- 51:49Daniel Moore: I'm not going to spoil that just yet, but he'll be coming back and we'll be doing some more episodes together here in the next couple of weeks.
- 51:55Daniel Moore: So that's something to look forward to.
- 51:57Daniel Moore: So again, just check out his podcast, something to Gnaw On and go binge.
- 52:01Daniel Moore: Listen to all of his episodes and check them out.
- 52:04Daniel Moore: He's got some excellent ones on there.
- 52:06Daniel Moore: As we leave today, just remember that.
- 52:08Daniel Moore: You know, for us as human beings, we have to eat.
- 52:12Daniel Moore: We have to have breakfast and lunch and dinner and snacks and all that stuff in between.
- 52:18Daniel Moore: If we don't, we wither away and we die, and we all make that a priority in our life.
- 52:23Daniel Moore: Well, your spiritual life isn't any different than your physical life.
- 52:27Daniel Moore: You can starve yourself spiritually if you're not careful, and we need that spiritual food just as much as we need that physical food.
- 52:34Daniel Moore: So my encouragement to you today is to jump into the Word and just grab on to every truth that you can, every promise that you can.
- 52:42Daniel Moore: You might be amazed just how it opened your eyes up to a whole new day and you can see Jesus and see God's love in a different light, and that should inspire you to want to share it with others.
- 52:55Daniel Moore: And I think that's of course, that's the great commission.
- 52:58Daniel Moore: We're supposed to be going out and sharing with others.
- 53:00Daniel Moore: But you can't do that if you don't get in the Word and start studying and know what you're going to share.
- 53:05Daniel Moore: So that's kind of what I want to put out there for this week for you guys.
- 53:13Daniel Moore: A challenge, that's the word I'm trying to think of.
- 53:16Daniel Moore: That's my challenge to you this week.
- 53:17Daniel Moore: Well, that's going to wrap up this episode of Connecting the Gap and this two-part series with Nate Vainio on the importance of God's Word.
- 53:26Daniel Moore: Nate's going to be back here in a little bit to do some more episodes with us on a different subject, so be checking out the podcast here in the next couple of weeks, as that will be coming through Right now.
- 53:40Daniel Moore: I wanted to leave you with another statistic.
- 53:42Daniel Moore: You know, covid just happened in 2020, and it actually changed and reformed a little bit the way that churchgoers looked at God's Word and how they use it.
- 53:51Daniel Moore: As we know, in 2020, when COVID hit, most of churches went online and had to start having online church services until the COVID virus disappeared pretty much for a while, and that actually changed people's perception of church and the Bible and how they do things when they're living for God.
- 54:12Daniel Moore: Online church attendees, they read the Bible more than on-site worshipers.
- 54:17Daniel Moore: At this point, non-believers outpace Christians in valuing several pro-social Bible-based behaviors, and Black Americans are more spiritually vibrant than whites and Hispanics.
- 54:29Daniel Moore: While 32% of in-person worshipers report using the Bible at least weekly on their own, 74% of online worshipers report doing so a discrepancy, that is said, that is so striking it deserves to actually be studied more.
- 54:46Daniel Moore: On another point, the American Bible Society found that the small group of Americans who have a hostile response to Scripture actually embrace certain Bible-based behaviors at higher rates than do scripturally engaged Christians.
- 54:59Daniel Moore: Based on the American Bible Society measurement scale, those hostile to the Bible outpace scripturally engaged Christians in advocating for the oppressed.
- 55:10Daniel Moore: They are welcoming immigrants into their community more often and they are more caring for the environment.
- 55:16Daniel Moore: But spiritually engaged Christians outpace those hostile to the Bible in befriending people of other religions, caring for those in prison and being good neighbors.
- 55:26Daniel Moore: The two groups registered equally in befriending people of other races.
- 55:33Daniel Moore: It's amazing, when you get into God's Word, how it changes things.
- 55:36Daniel Moore: Life can be going along at a certain pace.
- 55:40Daniel Moore: Maybe you could be in a rut.
- 55:41Daniel Moore: Maybe you could be in a point in your life where you really feel like things are meaningless.
- 55:46Daniel Moore: Why am I here?
- 55:47Daniel Moore: What is the point of everything that I'm doing at this point in my life?
- 55:51Daniel Moore: If you're not reading God's word a lot of times, we'll remain in those ruts and we'll remain stuck because we never really find the true meaning of why we're here.
- 56:01Daniel Moore: Crack open your Bible.
- 56:03Daniel Moore: Start reading some scripture.
- 56:04Daniel Moore: God will reveal to you very quickly why you are here and what his purpose was for creating you how he loves you.
- 56:12Daniel Moore: I promise it will change your outlook on your life for an eternity.
- 56:18Daniel Moore: Well, I hope that you guys have enjoyed these episodes.
- 56:20Daniel Moore: Maybe you like the Bible and enjoyed a little bit more.
- 56:23Daniel Moore: As you crack open the covers, please check out Nate's podcast Something to Gnaw On and check out his crash course through the Bible that he's been doing and he's continuing to do at this point.
- 56:34Daniel Moore: I think that you'll find it very enlightening and you'll find that reading the Bible isn't boring.
- 56:39Daniel Moore: It is actually an essential part of our life and it's a very exciting book to read and it will definitely change your life.
