SPEAKER_00: When I was a kid back in the 1980s, I listened to a lot of Christian music.
• 0:26
SPEAKER_00: And my favorite album during that period was one called The Big Picture by an artist named Michael W.
• 0:32
  SPEAKER_00: Smith.
• 0:32
SPEAKER_00: Some of you are probably familiar with Michael W.
• 0:35
  SPEAKER_00: Smith.
• 0:36
SPEAKER_00: One of the best songs on that album was titled Pursuit of the Dream, and that song, Pursuit of the Dream, contained one of my favorite song lyrics ever.
• 0:45
SPEAKER_00: He sang, Never forget your roots as you head for something new.
• 0:51
SPEAKER_00: And that lyric has stuck with me for decades as I've gone through various periods in my life and I've made a lot of changes.
• 0:57
SPEAKER_00: I've thought about it a lot, especially the last couple of years since I quit my job as a college professor and I became a full-time ghostwriter, podcaster, author, and coach.
• 1:06
SPEAKER_00: Now I've gotten a little bit of attention from people in my network because I've released a few books over the last few years and I've built a business from scratch during that time.
• 1:16
SPEAKER_00: And yes, of course, I'm proud of my accomplishments from the last few years, but the truth is that I had a lot of help getting here, and I'm going to continue to need a lot of help as I go forward.
• 1:27
SPEAKER_00: Now the person who has helped me the most by far is my wife, Melanie.
• 1:32
SPEAKER_00: I would never have been able to write, to quit my job, or to build a business if she had not been so supportive.
• 1:38
SPEAKER_00: She believed in me in the times where I didn't even believe in myself, which, if I'm honest with you, was a lot more often than I care to admit.
• 1:46
SPEAKER_00: At the end of the day, honestly, I see myself as just a kid from a small southern Missouri town called Potosi.
• 1:54
SPEAKER_00: I grew up in a double-wide trailer out in the country, about five miles out of town, but I had the good fortune of having amazing parents, a lot of good teachers, and a lot of people who have helped me along the way.
• 2:06
SPEAKER_00: So whatever level of success you achieve in your life or your business, don't ever forget where you came from.
• 2:12
SPEAKER_00: We're all born the same way and we're all going to leave life one day in pretty much the same way.
• 2:17
SPEAKER_00: So keep your success in perspective.
• 2:20
SPEAKER_00: And remember that it's all pretty pointless if you don't use your success to help other people.
• 2:25
  SPEAKER_00: Here's today's challenge.
• 2:27
SPEAKER_00: I want you to think about this question.
• 2:28
SPEAKER_00: How did your roots shape you into the person that you are today?
• 2:34
SPEAKER_00: Hey, before I sign off, I want to give a big thanks to today's sponsor, The Word Wizard.
• 2:38
SPEAKER_00: You know, you may have written a great book, and we talk a lot about books here on this podcast, so I hope that you're working on a book as well.
• 2:45
SPEAKER_00: But the honest truth is that you might have written a great book, but it's not ready for publication until it's been in the hands of a master editor.
• 2:53
SPEAKER_00: That's why my good friend Karen Hunsinger, also known as The Word Wizard, is the perfect partner to help you craft the highest quality book possible.
• 3:02
SPEAKER_00: So what is it that a great editor does, by the way?
• 3:05
SPEAKER_00: Well, a great editor doesn't just correct grammar and spelling, they also correct wordiness, shifts in tone and voice, overuse of particular words, and they also enhance transitions, clarity, and accuracy.
• 3:18
SPEAKER_00: I have worked with Karen a lot of different times in various projects the last couple of years, and I believe she's your secret weapon for crafting an amazing book.
