Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, the truth about sorority life with
• 0:04
Speaker 1: your hosts, me, Gia Giudice, Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Fessler.
• 0:11
Speaker 1: Hey guys, welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush.
• 0:15
Speaker 1: It's Daisy and Joan here again, and we're going to
• 0:17
Speaker 1: dive more into basement girls today.
• 0:20
Speaker 2: All right, welcome in our next guest.
• 0:23
  Speaker 3: Hey. Hi.
• 0:24
Speaker 2: Thank you guys for coming on.
• 0:25
Speaker 4: Of course. I'm so excited.
• 0:27
Speaker 5: I'm Joan, by the way.
• 0:28
Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'm Daisy.
• 0:30
Speaker 4: Hi, I'm Avery. And I'm Bella.
• 0:33
Speaker 2: Nice to meet you, Avery and Bella. We're so excited
• 0:36
Speaker 2: to have you guys on.
• 0:38
Speaker 5: I'm very intrigued by this whole basement girl. And first
• 0:42
Speaker 5: of all, is that what they call you guys at
• 0:45
Speaker 5: your sorority? Are you backroom or basement?
• 0:49
Speaker 3: They called us logistics, but the words are like all interchangeable. Yeah.
• 0:53
  Speaker 4: Like upstairs girls.
• 0:54
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 0:55
  Speaker 1: Yeah. Got it.
• 0:56
Speaker 5: The concept is the same.
• 0:58
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 0:58
Speaker 2: Okay. And did you guys both do it?
• 1:00
Speaker 3: Yeah. It was so fun.
• 1:02
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 1:03
Speaker 2: What year are you guys right now?
• 1:05
  Speaker 3: I'm a junior.
• 1:06
  Speaker 4: And I'm a senior.
• 1:07
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 1:07
  Speaker 2: Oh, so fun.
• 1:09
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 1:09
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 1:11
Speaker 2: So what did it all entail, you guys, being back there?
• 1:14
Speaker 4: Well, everyone kind of has different roles, but for the
• 1:18
Speaker 4: most part, it's like we kind of do more um,
• 1:22
Speaker 4: like behind the scenes work rather than just like talking
• 1:25
Speaker 4: to girls that are coming in.
• 1:26
Speaker 3: So like, basically what we do is every girl, when
• 1:29
Speaker 3: they apply to recruitment, they submit like resumes and all
• 1:33
Speaker 3: their social medias and stuff. So that's really like what
• 1:35
Speaker 3: we're looking at. Um, like spend our entire summer researching
• 1:39
Speaker 3: basically everything about these girls. Like we text people who
• 1:42
Speaker 3: know them. We really try to just like understand the
• 1:45
Speaker 3: full picture of them. Cause it's really hard to obviously
• 1:48
Speaker 3: see exactly who they are on paper. So anything we
• 1:51
Speaker 3: can do to get to know them is like really
• 1:54
Speaker 3: helpful for us. And so we did that over the
• 1:55
Speaker 3: summer and then really just everything behind the scenes recruitment
• 1:59
Speaker 3: wise falls onto like us back upstairs team logistics.
• 2:04
Speaker 5: How many are there of you like that is doing all,
• 2:08
Speaker 5: I mean, how many girls are there that you're going
• 2:09
Speaker 5: to be investigating that you're looking into? Do you have
• 2:12
Speaker 5: a big team that does that over the summer or
• 2:14
Speaker 5: is it just the backroom logistic team?
• 2:17
Speaker 4: There this year, they were like our school. There were
• 2:21
Speaker 4: thirteen hundred girls who registered for recruitment. And we literally
• 2:25
Speaker 4: look through every single one of them, obviously, just like
• 2:29
Speaker 4: like for numbers reasons. Not everyone comes into our house
• 2:33
Speaker 4: and everyone's house. But we look through every girl and
• 2:38
Speaker 4: there were like, what, eight.
• 2:40
  Speaker 3: Of us on.
• 2:42
Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it was like eight.
• 2:44
  Speaker 3: To 10, I want to say. It's usually a pretty
• 2:46
Speaker 3: big number. And I think actually with the numbers growing
• 2:49
Speaker 3: each year in terms of PNMs, we're looking at growing
• 2:52
Speaker 3: the team. And even I think we have talked about
• 2:55
Speaker 3: starting like a bigger team over the summer and then
• 2:58
Speaker 3: narrowing it down once we actually get to recruitment.
• 3:01
Speaker 1: I feel like that would be fun, like looking everyone
• 3:03
Speaker 1: up and trying to find it for me.
• 3:05
Speaker 4: It's actually so fun. But it's funny because not everyone
• 3:08
Speaker 4: like knows. It's like every time I'm like, oh, it's
• 3:10
Speaker 4: so much work. They're like, okay, you're literally like stalking people,
• 3:14
Speaker 4: but it is like somewhat, it is a lot of
• 3:16
Speaker 4: work because you want to make sure that you're like,
• 3:18
Speaker 4: like a girl could like look picture perfect and like
• 3:21
Speaker 4: have all these things on her resume or whatever. And
• 3:23
Speaker 4: then you were like told that they're like not nice
• 3:26
Speaker 4: at all. And obviously you're not doing that through like
• 3:28
  Speaker 4: social media stuff.
• 3:28
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 3:28
Speaker 5: She's not going to admit to being a bully or whatever.
• 3:32
Speaker 3: It's crazy. Some of the things people send into you
• 3:34
Speaker 3: just to let you know that this is not really
• 3:37
Speaker 3: what the girl seems to be. So that was the
• 3:40
Speaker 3: one thing having to deal with confidentiality like this summer.
• 3:43
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 3:43
Speaker 1: So when that happens though, if like a girl that's
• 3:47
Speaker 1: already in your sorority, like reaches out and like says
• 3:49
Speaker 1: something about a girl that might be coming to school there,
• 3:51
Speaker 1: are you automatically like, no, like she can't be in
• 3:55
Speaker 1: her sorority or do you still like, vibe her out
• 3:58
  Speaker 1: a little bit.
• 3:58
Speaker 4: We like, obviously we don't know how it works in
• 4:01
Speaker 4: like other houses, but we really don't like the term
• 4:05
Speaker 4: like blacklisting. Like we don't, we don't do that because like,
• 4:08
Speaker 4: we also like to give people the benefit of the doubt.
• 4:10
Speaker 4: Like some people, unfortunately, like they might not have, have
• 4:13
Speaker 4: had a great high school experience and then like, they
• 4:16
Speaker 4: turn out to be great in college.
• 4:18
Speaker 2: And like, we don't want to like put off their chances.
• 4:21
Speaker 4: So I mean, I'm biased, but I think that we
• 4:23
Speaker 4: do a really good job of like making sure that
• 4:26
Speaker 4: like everyone gets like a chance. And if they like
• 4:29
Speaker 4: have great conversations and like, I don't want to say
• 4:31
Speaker 4: prove themselves because they're not, they're not proving themselves, but like,
• 4:35
Speaker 4: we just, we just want to give people like a chance.
• 4:37
  Speaker 4: Would you agree?
• 4:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I totally agree with that. I feel like
• 4:40
Speaker 3: we also always like think about like, where is it
• 4:43
Speaker 3: coming from? Is this just someone, you know, from their
• 4:46
Speaker 3: high school that there's talking about, or is it something
• 4:48
Speaker 3: like actual evidence? Because it's, it's, it's already is such
• 4:53
Speaker 3: a big, part of people's college experience. And so one
• 4:56
Speaker 3: thing that they did in high school, like it's unfortunate
• 4:59
Speaker 3: sometimes if it affects their college experience. So we really
• 5:02
Speaker 3: try to like take it super seriously.
• 5:04
Speaker 4: And since there's like only like relatively like a small
• 5:08
Speaker 4: group of like the basement girls or whatever, like everyone
• 5:10
Speaker 4: has an, like a different position that kind of focuses
• 5:13
Speaker 4: on like other things. So Avery was like our head
• 5:16
Speaker 4: this year. And so she kind of like looked over
• 5:19
Speaker 4: everything that was going on and, and, not necessarily had
• 5:23
Speaker 4: like the final say, but kind of if she, if
• 5:25
Speaker 4: she saw like, she was just kind of like the leader.
• 5:28
Speaker 4: She was guiding everyone through it, making, and she'd also
• 5:30
Speaker 4: done it the year before. So she had like a
• 5:33
Speaker 4: little bit more of experience. So it helps like everyone's other,
• 5:36
Speaker 4: like everyone's kind of designated to certain things.
• 5:39
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 5:40
Speaker 1: So are you guys like the final say if someone
• 5:44
Speaker 1: gets into the sorority or not, or is it like
• 5:47
Speaker 1: the recruitment chair or the president?
• 5:49
Speaker 2: How does that work?
• 5:50
Speaker 3: So my position, which I was head of logistics this
• 5:53
Speaker 3: past recruitment, me and the VP of recruitment worked hand
• 5:57
Speaker 3: in hand. And so once everyone left after the long,
• 6:00
Speaker 3: long hours of work week and recruitment, we would stay
• 6:04
Speaker 3: and just reevaluate everything that we had looked through in
• 6:07
Speaker 3: the summer. We were, you know, calling people, really just
• 6:10
Speaker 3: trying to get like every single thing that we could
• 6:13
Speaker 3: know about these girls. Because these numbers are so big.
• 6:17
Speaker 3: So every information that you can get really helps you
• 6:20
Speaker 3: actually narrow it down to that class that you need.
• 6:24
Speaker 3: Because I think almost every round we were doing half
• 6:27
Speaker 3: of the people cut.
• 6:28
  Speaker 5: Oh, huge cuts.
• 6:31
  Speaker 3: Huge cuts.
• 6:32
Speaker 2: How many girls do you take?
• 6:34
Speaker 3: We, this year we took 96. And so, gosh, I mean, yeah,
• 6:39
Speaker 3: there was 1300 girls coming through. So pretty much only Yeah,
• 6:43
Speaker 3: it was a lot. It was a hard, hard recruitment
• 6:46
  Speaker 3: process this year.
• 6:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like the longest, most like, I mean, it's
• 6:52
Speaker 4: so emotional for obviously the person going through it, but
• 6:54
Speaker 4: then also us too, because it's like no one likes
• 6:57
Speaker 4: making those like hard decisions.
• 6:58
Speaker 2: Oh no, it's so hard. I remember doing it and
• 7:01
  Speaker 2: it's like, you're so excited.
• 7:03
Speaker 1: And it's so fun, but it's also just, like, overwhelming
• 7:05
Speaker 1: and tiring and, like, very dramatic.
• 7:08
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 7:08
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 7:09
Speaker 4: Daisy, where did you go to school?
• 7:10
Speaker 2: I went to San Diego State.
• 7:12
  Speaker 3: Okay.
• 7:12
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 7:13
  Speaker 2: That's cool.
• 7:14
Speaker 3: The lab recruitment process is even, like, I feel like
• 7:17
Speaker 3: it's even harder than ours. And I talked to my
• 7:19
Speaker 3: friends that went through it.
• 7:20
Speaker 1: I don't even, like, I don't remember how many girls, like,
• 7:23
Speaker 1: we took every year. I feel like it was around, like, 75.
• 7:26
Speaker 1: But I feel like CSU is, like, such a big school.
• 7:30
Speaker 1: And I know it's probably only grown since I was there.
• 7:33
Speaker 1: but I had no idea about like a sorority or
• 7:35
Speaker 1: what it was before I went. And then my roommate
• 7:38
Speaker 1: who I like my own Facebook, she was like, will
• 7:40
Speaker 1: you please just do recruitment with me? And my last
• 7:43
Speaker 1: name is Kent and hers was Keller. So like out
• 7:45
Speaker 1: of all the girls, we were in the same like
• 7:48
Speaker 1: 15 person, like group or whatever that like, and so
• 7:53
Speaker 1: it was like so funny, but it was, I don't know.
• 7:56
Speaker 2: It was like fun kind of.
• 7:58
Speaker 5: How do you guys go about like not having your
• 8:02
Speaker 5: own biases? Like some thinking that of course you're going
• 8:04
Speaker 5: to know some of these girls coming through and like
• 8:07
Speaker 5: not putting yours to the top because you know them
• 8:10
Speaker 5: and you really want them in just to make sure
• 8:12
Speaker 5: you consider everybody, all the sisters, what their opinions are.
• 8:15
Speaker 4: It is really hard. Like it totally. And we get
• 8:18
Speaker 4: caught like all the time being like, Oh my gosh,
• 8:20
Speaker 4: I know her from home or she's, you know, like,
• 8:24
Speaker 4: I mean, well, we like, there's sisters that come through like,
• 8:28
Speaker 4: Or we have friends that have a younger sister coming through.
• 8:30
Speaker 4: And like, of course that's like a, that's a reasonable bias.
• 8:33
Speaker 4: Like we want someone's, if they want us, like we
• 8:36
Speaker 4: want them to like, yeah.
• 8:38
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 8:39
Speaker 4: And it is, it's so hard, but I think, I
• 8:41
Speaker 4: think you have to like, especially being in our positions,
• 8:44
Speaker 4: like you have to kind of step aside and really
• 8:47
Speaker 4: think like, you're not, these aren't going to be like
• 8:49
Speaker 4: your littles. Like you're, we're, we're in the grades above,
• 8:53
Speaker 4: like we're doing this for like the current sophomore class
• 8:56
Speaker 4: and the incoming freshmen, because like, they're going to be
• 8:59
Speaker 4: kind of guiding them through like the rest of college.
• 9:02
Speaker 4: Like they're going to be there a little. So it's hard,
• 9:05
Speaker 4: but like, you kind of just got to get out
• 9:07
Speaker 4: of your mindset. Yeah.
• 9:23
Speaker 5: I'm just wondering how many girls are in your sorority
• 9:26
Speaker 5: for the four years? Like ours was only like 125.
• 9:30
Speaker 5: And so we would only take like 30 or 25 recruits.
• 9:34
Speaker 5: Like how do you manage that many PNMs?
• 9:38
Speaker 3: I think our number chapter this year is around 300 girls.
• 9:41
  Speaker 5: Which is really.
• 9:42
Speaker 3: Shocking because TCU is like a very, it's a pretty
• 9:46
Speaker 3: small school. I mean, our undergraduate, I think is 13,000 now,
• 9:50
Speaker 3: but when I came in, it was 11,000. So if
• 9:52
Speaker 3: you actually like narrow it down to DC and chapter,
• 9:56
Speaker 3: like it is pretty large. It's a very.
• 9:58
Speaker 5: Big number at DC.
• 10:00
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 10:02
Speaker 3: I mean, our chapter house only fits 30 something girls
• 10:05
Speaker 3: to live in. Okay. That's a huge competitive thing, but
• 10:09
Speaker 3: our chapters are huge here compared to like in terms
• 10:12
  Speaker 3: of our size.
• 10:13
Speaker 5: Yeah. That sounds crazy. How about your house, Daisy? How
• 10:15
Speaker 5: many were in yours?
• 10:16
  Speaker 2: I honestly.
• 10:17
Speaker 1: I'm like, I think we took around like 75 girls.
• 10:22
Speaker 2: I could be, I think around that number.
• 10:23
Speaker 5: And how many actives did you have then?
• 10:25
  Speaker 2: I don't know.
• 10:26
Speaker 1: Cause I feel like after like freshman, sophomore year, it
• 10:28
Speaker 1: starts to like decline.
• 10:30
  Speaker 4: Like how many.
• 10:31
Speaker 2: Girls stay in it?
• 10:33
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 10:33
Speaker 1: So I'm not exactly sure, but I think like, but
• 10:36
Speaker 1: living in the house, I feel like it housed like,
• 10:40
Speaker 1: I feel like we had like 50 girls in the
• 10:42
  Speaker 1: house maybe. Yeah.
• 10:44
Speaker 2: But our house wasn't like huge. Like it wasn't like
• 10:46
Speaker 2: the Southern houses or like anything like that.
• 10:51
Speaker 1: But it was, I lived in for a semester when
• 10:53
Speaker 1: I was a junior before I went abroad and it
• 10:55
Speaker 1: was like so much fun. Yeah.
• 10:59
Speaker 5: I lived there for a year. It was so fun.
• 11:01
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 11:02
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 11:03
Speaker 4: I never got to live in my house, which is
• 11:04
Speaker 4: so sad. I was so sad.
• 11:06
Speaker 5: You never did it.
• 11:08
Speaker 4: I loved where I lived sophomore year and I lived
• 11:09
Speaker 4: like right next door to it.
• 11:11
Speaker 5: So it was like, Oh, perfect.
• 11:12
Speaker 4: Like, It was perfect, but I was really sad.
• 11:16
Speaker 5: So being on the logistic team, is that considered like,
• 11:20
Speaker 5: is everybody vying for that position, not having to get
• 11:23
Speaker 5: dressed up every day and make small talk? And plus
• 11:26
Speaker 5: you kind of have a little bit of power, it
• 11:27
Speaker 5: feels like. You're helping making the final decisions. Is that
• 11:30
Speaker 5: a prestigious position that people really want?
• 11:33
Speaker 4: I mean, I would say like, okay, for softwares, No,
• 11:39
Speaker 4: I would say there's only like a handful of girls
• 11:41
Speaker 4: that apply for that position. Cause I think it's their
• 11:42
Speaker 4: first year being on the other side of it. So
• 11:45
Speaker 4: they're like, they want to do work week and they
• 11:47
Speaker 4: want to do all the fun stuff. So for sophomores, no,
• 11:50
Speaker 4: but then I would say juniors and seniors, you definitely
• 11:53
  Speaker 4: get more that apply, but I, I wouldn't say it's
• 11:57
Speaker 4: like crazy competitive. Like no one, no one like talks
• 12:01
Speaker 4: like when people apply for exec and like people apply
• 12:04
Speaker 4: for the same position, people are like, Ooh, they're going
• 12:06
Speaker 4: head to head or whatever. Like people don't really talk
• 12:08
Speaker 4: like that for this.
• 12:09
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 12:10
  Speaker 4: But yeah.
• 12:11
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 12:11
  Speaker 4: Very good.
• 12:12
Speaker 5: Who makes the final decision?
• 12:14
  Speaker 4: Our recruitment chair.
• 12:15
Speaker 3: I also feel like people do whenever they ask us
• 12:19
Speaker 3: about these jobs, because we spend our entire summer, like
• 12:22
Speaker 3: on Monday nights, we usually have meetings that can last
• 12:24
Speaker 3: up to four to five hours. And a lot of
• 12:26
Speaker 3: girls are working internships and they have to come. They're
• 12:29
Speaker 3: done with their internship and do these long hour meetings.
• 12:31
Speaker 3: And you have at least up to like six hours,
• 12:34
Speaker 3: like six to 10 hours of work by yourself individually
• 12:37
Speaker 3: throughout the week, which if you're working like a full-time
• 12:39
Speaker 3: job during the summer and a lot on other girls,
• 12:41
Speaker 3: like one of our girls just interned with Steve Madden
• 12:45
Speaker 3: this summer and she would even have to come late
• 12:47
Speaker 3: to some of our meetings because she was running directly
• 12:50
Speaker 3: from work and would struggle getting this work done. So
• 12:52
Speaker 3: that I feel like is a, maybe sometimes also why
• 12:54
Speaker 3: it's not as like, not as many people apply because
• 12:58
Speaker 3: it is such like a time consuming thing. Like I
• 13:00
Speaker 3: had to live here in Fort Worth this summer for
• 13:03
  Speaker 3: the job. Yeah.
• 13:04
Speaker 1: So like you need to know that like you'd be
• 13:06
Speaker 1: able to do it and like have the.
• 13:08
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 13:09
  Speaker 2: To do it.
• 13:10
Speaker 5: Do you have any advisors in the room with you
• 13:12
Speaker 5: when you're making these decisions? So you do have that.
• 13:14
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 13:14
Speaker 3: Yeah. So that's kind of I think I was also
• 13:16
Speaker 3: going to mention that about the bias thing. Our advisors
• 13:20
Speaker 3: really help, you know, keep you in check with that
• 13:22
Speaker 3: because sometimes we love a girl, but maybe she doesn't
• 13:25
Speaker 3: have such good grades or.
• 13:26
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 13:27
Speaker 3: Someone had said this and. I had a couple of
• 13:29
Speaker 3: times where I got shot down by an advisor because
• 13:32
Speaker 3: of something she knew. And it helps though, because like
• 13:36
Speaker 3: I said, we heard so much about this girl. We
• 13:39
Speaker 3: love her. Someone in the sorority loves her. But if
• 13:41
Speaker 3: there's this, it stands out. And that can ultimately affect
• 13:44
Speaker 3: the sorority later on.
• 13:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, it ends up being a good thing because they're like, hey,
• 13:50
Speaker 4: there's more important things. And you're like, okay, yeah, you're right.
• 13:52
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's so many. I feel like you
• 13:55
Speaker 5: almost are looking... for a reason not to take some
• 13:59
Speaker 5: girls because there's so many. I kind of felt like
• 14:04
Speaker 5: that when I was on the bat, when I was
• 14:06
Speaker 5: the bachelorette, I was looking for reasons not to give
• 14:10
  Speaker 5: people roses.
• 14:10
Speaker 2: Like, I mean, everybody's like, how can I get rid
• 14:12
  Speaker 2: of this person?
• 14:14
Speaker 5: You know, I have to, I have to like eliminate
• 14:16
Speaker 5: five people tonight and I got to figure out how
• 14:18
Speaker 5: to do that. I got to figure out a reason.
• 14:19
Speaker 4: Yeah. And like it, that helps because when you get
• 14:24
Speaker 4: further into recruitment, like talking to these girls, you can
• 14:29
Speaker 4: sometimes get a read on if they like it there.
• 14:32
Speaker 4: And that it like, it's so sad if you really
• 14:36
Speaker 4: like a girl and you were like, I don't think
• 14:38
Speaker 4: they like us, but like, it's, it does make it
• 14:41
Speaker 4: a little easier because you're like, okay, we're obviously not
• 14:43
Speaker 4: going to like give a spot away to someone who
• 14:46
Speaker 4: wants us to like someone that we love that doesn't
• 14:48
Speaker 4: want us. So true.
• 14:49
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 14:50
Speaker 4: So that is hard and so humbling, but it helps.
• 14:54
Speaker 3: Yeah, it was because so actually what you're saying, how
• 14:57
Speaker 3: the logistics back downstairs team, some of us during recruitment
• 15:02
Speaker 3: actually do have to dress up and we would go
• 15:05
Speaker 3: out during the recruitment process and go float to girls
• 15:07
Speaker 3: and try to get our own read on them because
• 15:10
Speaker 3: there's background information on them. Like recruiters, they're meeting them
• 15:13
Speaker 3: for the first time. So a lot of them are
• 15:15
Speaker 3: just like, oh, my gosh, of course, she's so cute.
• 15:17
Speaker 3: But when we come in and we get that kind
• 15:18
Speaker 3: of second opinion, knowing the stuff that we do, it
• 15:22
Speaker 3: does help. again, make those cuts that need to happen,
• 15:26
Speaker 3: but maybe we don't have happen.
• 15:28
  Speaker 2: That makes sense.
• 15:29
Speaker 1: It's such an interesting concept rush and everything that goes
• 15:33
Speaker 1: into it behind the scenes.
• 15:35
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 15:36
Speaker 3: Trying to explain it to my parents why I had
• 15:38
Speaker 3: to live here this summer.
• 15:39
Speaker 2: They were like, they're like, you're doing what?
• 15:41
Speaker 4: And then they listen or they hear the Zoom calls
• 15:44
Speaker 4: and they're like, what are you guys talking about?
• 15:48
  Speaker 5: Of course they're.
• 15:49
Speaker 4: Like, and like my mom like did not do any
• 15:52
Speaker 4: sorority type things. And she's like, this just seems like
• 15:56
Speaker 4: not good, but I'm like, mom, I promise. It's actually
• 15:59
  Speaker 4: a positive.
• 16:00
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 16:01
Speaker 5: We need to do this. Yeah. What's, what's the funniest
• 16:04
Speaker 5: things that ever happened? Like on, like during the logistics
• 16:08
Speaker 5: process with, with you guys in the back room and
• 16:10
Speaker 5: everybody else in front, did you see something or hear
• 16:11
Speaker 5: something or what, like anything funny or like, you know,
• 16:15
  Speaker 5: weird that happened?
• 16:16
Speaker 3: I feel like that whole time we're in that back room,
• 16:19
  Speaker 3: we're laughing. I don't know if it's delusional because of
• 16:21
Speaker 3: the long hours, but like.
• 16:23
Speaker 2: It's probably a little bit of both.
• 16:25
Speaker 3: Yeah, a little bit of both. Like, you know, some
• 16:29
Speaker 3: girls come through the recruitment process to have no idea,
• 16:31
  Speaker 3: you know?
• 16:32
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 16:33
  Speaker 5: Like, so.
• 16:33
  Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
• 16:34
Speaker 3: Walk into the house and we're staying there and they
• 16:37
Speaker 3: do something funny and we just have to, we go
• 16:38
Speaker 3: back into the room and we all like debrief how
• 16:40
Speaker 3: that round just went. And we're like, oh my God,
• 16:42
Speaker 3: did you see how that girl just, just like did
• 16:44
Speaker 3: this and um I feel like that's really fun yeah
• 16:48
Speaker 3: also they do a really good job when picking the
• 16:50
Speaker 3: team spreading it across the entire sorority so you have
• 16:53
Speaker 3: girls from all different ages and it forces you to
• 16:56
Speaker 3: get to know people that you know you wouldn't really
• 16:58
Speaker 3: necessarily know and that's why I loved it because I
• 17:01
Speaker 3: felt like these girls I spent all summer with and
• 17:03
Speaker 3: they became like my best friends like I said we
• 17:04
Speaker 3: were just constantly laughing again our advisors like.
• 17:07
Speaker 5: Okay like let's get back.
• 17:09
Speaker 3: But yeah, I feel like there's always something to laugh about.
• 17:14
Speaker 5: Were you the ones that assigned PNMs to actives? So they,
• 17:20
Speaker 5: because you made sure they got to meet a good
• 17:21
  Speaker 5: variety of people.
• 17:23
Speaker 3: Yeah. So in our whole logistics team, we have a
• 17:27
Speaker 3: separate group, um, about like four or five girls that
• 17:30
Speaker 3: are called matching chairs. And those girls specifically spend their
• 17:34
Speaker 3: time matching, um, We do interviews at the beginning of
• 17:37
Speaker 3: the semester in January of second semester of the PCs
• 17:42
Speaker 3: that we already have. And we use that to match
• 17:44
Speaker 3: it with the information that we collect on the PNMs
• 17:47
Speaker 3: based off of their resume. And so they do that.
• 17:50
Speaker 3: And that's why I was in charge. I was like
• 17:51
Speaker 3: in charge of all the girls. And so matching chairs
• 17:54
Speaker 3: being one of them.
• 17:55
  Speaker 5: That's so fun.
• 17:56
Speaker 1: Like all the parts of it that go into making
• 18:01
Speaker 1: the day possible or like the days.
• 18:03
Speaker 2: How long is your rush?
• 18:04
Speaker 3: Two weeks including work weekend.
• 18:07
Speaker 1: Recruitment okay got it do you guys do spring rush
• 18:10
  Speaker 1: too no.
• 18:12
Speaker 3: Um and it's usually sometimes there's cob sometimes there's not
• 18:16
Speaker 3: it all depends on whether or not we make uh
• 18:19
Speaker 3: our numbers our required numbers um yeah spring rush isn't
• 18:23
Speaker 3: a thing here okay cool.
• 18:26
Speaker 5: I feel like this kind of prepares you for the
• 18:30
Speaker 5: working world. I don't know if you feel that way,
• 18:32
Speaker 5: but it's such a great experience. I never felt like
• 18:36
Speaker 5: that when I was in a sorority. It was a
• 18:39
Speaker 5: very different world. But I feel like you guys are
• 18:42
Speaker 5: really learning. I hear you guys speak and how kind
• 18:45
Speaker 5: you are about the way that this process goes. And
• 18:49
Speaker 5: I love to hear that because I think the thought of,
• 18:52
Speaker 5: sorority girls sometimes that they're a catty group of girls
• 18:55
Speaker 5: that only like want to hang out with each other
• 18:56
Speaker 5: and you guys sound so kind so i'm proud of
• 18:58
  Speaker 5: you guys.
• 18:59
Speaker 3: Well thank you yeah that's very sweet.
• 19:01
Speaker 1: Thank you guys so much for coming on it was
• 19:03
Speaker 1: so fun talking to you you both are just so
• 19:06
Speaker 1: genuine and sweet with joan.
• 19:08
Speaker 5: I would want to be in your sorority.
• 19:10
Speaker 3: Yeah nice meeting y'all.
• 19:26
Speaker 1: Okay, so I think after everyone that we, like, talked to,
• 19:30
Speaker 1: I think the girls that came on together, I think
• 19:34
Speaker 1: their sorority, like, it just seemed so fun how they
• 19:37
  Speaker 1: do it.
• 19:37
Speaker 2: Like, it seemed like they had a lot of fun
• 19:39
  Speaker 2: with it.
• 19:39
Speaker 5: I also felt like they had the most power. So
• 19:42
Speaker 5: it seems like the first girl and the third girl
• 19:45
Speaker 5: we talked to, they were just kind of like the pass-through. Like,
• 19:48
Speaker 5: the one first girl said... I was kind of like
• 19:50
Speaker 5: a secretary. Felt like the sorority secretary. A lot of
• 19:54
Speaker 5: work they put into it. They have to do all
• 19:56
Speaker 5: of that work of the summer, going through one had 1,300,
• 20:01
Speaker 5: one had 2,000. That's a really lot of people to
• 20:03
Speaker 5: go through. And then at that point, never meet any
• 20:06
Speaker 5: of them because you're in the back room. And then
• 20:08
Speaker 5: actually never really have any power. I'm not sure at
• 20:11
Speaker 5: those sororities if I would have wanted to be one
• 20:14
Speaker 5: of them, other than you get to hang out in
• 20:16
Speaker 5: your sweatpants. But the two girls that we talked to
• 20:20
Speaker 5: from UCL or from TCU, I loved how involved they
• 20:25
Speaker 5: really were. They were super involved. They weren't just like
• 20:28
  Speaker 5: a secretary.
• 20:29
  Speaker 2: Oh, for sure.
• 20:30
  Speaker 3: 100%.
• 20:30
Speaker 1: And I feel like that would be the way I
• 20:33
Speaker 1: would want to do it if I was going to
• 20:36
  Speaker 1: do it.
• 20:37
Speaker 2: Cause also I was thinking about it.
• 20:38
Speaker 1: I was like, when I was in college and like recruitment,
• 20:41
Speaker 1: like now looking back on it, I'm like, Oh, I
• 20:43
Speaker 1: would totally be in the back room. But in like
• 20:46
Speaker 1: the moment, I feel like I would want to be like,
• 20:48
Speaker 1: like when I was back there, I would be like,
• 20:50
Speaker 1: Oh no, I want to be doing like the dances
• 20:53
Speaker 1: and be up with everyone and talking to everyone.
• 20:56
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 20:57
Speaker 5: So in the, in the long run, do you think
• 20:59
Speaker 5: this whole concept of basement girls, backroom girls, logisticals, Like,
• 21:03
Speaker 5: is that like a good idea for a sorority or
• 21:05
Speaker 5: do you think like it's just adding a whole nother
• 21:07
  Speaker 5: element of judging?
• 21:09
  Speaker 1: I feel like it's a good thing because I feel
• 21:12
Speaker 1: like if they have like a saying can like organize everything.
• 21:17
Speaker 2: Otherwise, I don't know how it would honestly get done. Yeah,
• 21:20
  Speaker 2: I'm thinking.
• 21:20
Speaker 1: But and I feel like it might be a good
• 21:22
Speaker 1: like buffer, like say if like. they didn't have that,
• 21:26
Speaker 1: then girls would be like, well, this person should be
• 21:28
Speaker 1: in and someone would be like, I don't think so.
• 21:30
Speaker 1: And maybe it would cause more problems within the sorority.
• 21:33
Speaker 5: I feel like in high school, you're not your best self. Like,
• 21:39
Speaker 5: you know, you're still figuring it out.
• 21:40
  Speaker 2: Nobody is.
• 21:41
Speaker 5: No, nobody is. And like, what goes through my mind
• 21:44
Speaker 5: the whole time during this podcast is Trista's daughter, Blakeslee,
• 21:48
Speaker 5: who's going to be hopefully going through a rush. And
• 21:51
Speaker 5: I know I've had conversations with Trista about her daughter,
• 21:53
Speaker 5: and she's like, I have to take all this Dirty
• 21:55
Speaker 5: Rush stuff in and convey it to my daughter. And
• 21:57
Speaker 5: I'm thinking, okay, I've got to call Trista the whole
• 21:59
Speaker 5: time during this podcast. I'm thinking, I've got to call
• 22:03
Speaker 5: Trista and tell her about all this investigative work that
• 22:07
Speaker 5: they do before the freshman even arrives on campus. They
• 22:12
Speaker 5: are finding out stuff about Trista. the recruits of the PNMs.
• 22:17
Speaker 5: So I feel like she needs to like work on
• 22:18
Speaker 5: her Instagram, make sure that's good. She needs to be
• 22:21
Speaker 5: a leadership in a, in one, in at least one club.
• 22:25
Speaker 5: I feel like she needs to play sports. I know
• 22:27
Speaker 5: she does dance. So I'm thinking of all these things
• 22:29
Speaker 5: that Blakeslee needs to do. And I need to call
• 22:31
Speaker 5: Trista and tell her because like, you're like so much
• 22:36
Speaker 5: is happening while you're a senior in high school that
• 22:38
Speaker 5: they have no idea about. So like you could start
• 22:41
Speaker 5: like kind of affecting your success at sorority rush. Like
• 22:43
Speaker 5: right now, Like, these 17-year-olds should be doing it.
• 22:47
Speaker 1: It's also crazy, like, how much social media, like, changes, like,
• 22:52
Speaker 1: how you're going to be, like, looked at, like, now.
• 22:57
Speaker 1: Because it's, like, such a popular thing.
• 22:59
Speaker 5: And do you think, though, so we've done a podcast.
• 23:02
Speaker 5: I'm not sure if you were on the one that
• 23:04
Speaker 5: we did when we talked about, like, kind of how
• 23:06
Speaker 5: over the top. Oh, we were in Lake Tahoe, and
• 23:11
Speaker 5: I did it with Trista and Kevin. another girl. And
• 23:15
Speaker 5: we were talking about how over the top it is
• 23:17
Speaker 5: and like how the, like the dances that they learn
• 23:19
Speaker 5: and like the pile up at the front door and
• 23:22
Speaker 5: all of this like huge stuff. And I wonder if
• 23:25
Speaker 5: you can like show a talent that a sorority would
• 23:29
Speaker 5: put potentially need, like being like really good at dance
• 23:31
Speaker 5: or being able to choreograph or great artist, you know,
• 23:35
Speaker 5: being able to make the big signs and stuff. If
• 23:37
Speaker 5: you could show that when you're a senior in high school,
• 23:39
Speaker 5: like on your Instagram, if that would help you.
• 23:42
  Speaker 2: Oh, I feel like 100% I would.
• 23:43
Speaker 5: I feel like we should be like advisors to seniors
• 23:46
  Speaker 5: right now.
• 23:47
  Speaker 4: We should.
• 23:47
Speaker 2: Maybe we should be house moms.
• 23:51
Speaker 5: I think I'm old enough to be one. Our house
• 23:53
Speaker 5: mom was really old.
• 23:56
Speaker 2: Mine wasn't like very old. She was like so fun though.
• 24:00
  Speaker 5: Was she fun?
• 24:01
Speaker 2: Yeah, she was really fun.
• 24:02
Speaker 5: Ours smelled weird. She was old and she smelled like
• 24:06
Speaker 5: mouth balls. She really was.
• 24:08
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 24:09
Speaker 5: But we were scared of her and I think that
• 24:11
Speaker 5: was the whole intent.
• 24:12
  Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely.
• 24:13
Speaker 1: Did she she lived in the house?
• 24:15
Speaker 2: Did she lived in the house?
• 24:16
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 24:17
Speaker 5: And so one time she had to go to a
• 24:19
Speaker 5: wedding and I had just graduated and I was still
• 24:21
Speaker 5: living right down the street from school. I was commuting
• 24:23
Speaker 5: to work. I had a real job. And she said,
• 24:25
Speaker 5: this weekend, I have to go to a wedding. Could
• 24:27
Speaker 5: you come and just serve as like the house mother?
• 24:29
Speaker 5: And I was like, Oh, sure. And I'm like, I
• 24:30
Speaker 5: still know all these girls in the house. It'll be fun. Well,
• 24:33
Speaker 5: they were so bad. They brought a keg in and
• 24:36
Speaker 5: I found it in the foyer in the morning. And
• 24:37
Speaker 5: I was like, I didn't go to bed till like midnight.
• 24:39
Speaker 5: And they totally like took advantage of me. I was like, girls,
• 24:42
Speaker 5: wake up and get this out of the house.
• 24:44
  Speaker 2: No way.
• 24:45
Speaker 3: They brought a keg in.
• 24:47
  Speaker 2: That's hilarious.
• 24:48
Speaker 5: It was so bad. I'm like, I'm going to get
• 24:50
Speaker 5: so much trouble. I'm like, wake up. All you drunk
• 24:52
Speaker 5: girls get out of bed and move the keg.
• 24:54
Speaker 2: And remove the keg.
• 24:55
Speaker 5: Get the keg out of the house.
• 24:56
Speaker 2: Before the real house mom gets home.
• 24:57
Speaker 5: Before she comes home from this wedding.
• 25:01
  Speaker 2: That's so funny.
• 25:02
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 25:02
Speaker 5: Well, this was a fun episode.
• 25:03
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 25:04
Speaker 2: This was so fun.
• 25:05
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 25:06
Speaker 5: I feel like I've learned so much and I hope
• 25:07
Speaker 5: that the people listening, if you're out there listening and
• 25:09
Speaker 5: you have a child that's about to go through recruitment,
• 25:12
Speaker 5: I hope that we gave you some knowledge. Yes.
• 25:14
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 25:15
Speaker 1: It was like very insightful and it was fun to
• 25:18
Speaker 1: talk to these girls that were actually like part of
• 25:20
Speaker 1: the like back round of.
• 25:23
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 25:23
  Speaker 2: Like brush.
• 25:25
Speaker 5: I was impressed with them. I really liked that. I
• 25:27
Speaker 5: feel like girls to be in this position.
• 25:29
  Speaker 3: So.
• 25:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like they were all very like, I
• 25:32
Speaker 2: could tell they were all very driven.
• 25:33
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 25:33
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 25:35
Speaker 1: So that's it for this episode of Dirty Rush. Thank
• 25:38
