- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to SEC Football Addiction. Sports Talk Jay on
- 0:03Speaker 1: with us to talk a little South Carolina and Tennessee.
- 0:06Speaker 1: We are presented by PrizePix, where all new users who
- 0:09Speaker 1: play $ 5 and win using code HMA get $ 150 in
- 0:12Speaker 1: lineups instantly. Sports Talk Jay, before we go on to
- 0:17Speaker 1: that Tennessee-South Carolina game, Alabama. Three straight losses in Neyland Stadium.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Have you come back down off of that? Because I
- 0:27Speaker 1: know you had– I tuned in. I watched it. I
- 0:30Speaker 1: was driving, so I couldn't comment. But, like, I watched
- 0:34Speaker 1: what was going on. Have you come back down off
- 0:36Speaker 1: of that high yet?
- 0:39Speaker 2: I wore this for two days.
- 0:42Speaker 1: You pulled that out. Listen, you pulled that out last
- 0:44Speaker 1: week when I asked you who was going to win.
- 0:46Speaker 1: You went and got that, and you said, I can't
- 0:48Speaker 1: pick against my boys, so– I'm.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Going to wear it a third damn day. I love it.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Oh my God. This is, I.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Woke up Sunday morning and I was like, God, I'm
- 1:02Speaker 3: in a good mood right now.
- 1:04Speaker 2: It just hit me. I was like, and it's how
- 1:07Speaker 2: we beat them.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Yeah. We didn't run the score and have to beat
- 1:10Speaker 3: them 52 to 49. We beat them the way they
- 1:14Speaker 3: used to beat us, which was just, And it's so
- 1:19Speaker 3: demoralizing to lose that way. And we did it for
- 1:23Speaker 3: over a decade under Nick Saban.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I don't even remember. I've deleted how many times he won. Yeah.
- 1:29Speaker 3: And to win three straight at Neyland and to know
- 1:32Speaker 3: that we have their number, that blows my mind.
- 1:36Speaker 2: So you're darn right. We're so happy up here. It's
- 1:39Speaker 2: just ridiculous.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Well, the way that– and I agree with you. The
- 1:44Speaker 1: way that they won, the– just the domination by the defense,
- 1:48Speaker 1: the ability to run the ball. McIntyre played well. Like it,
- 1:51Speaker 1: it really was an impressive and early in the game.
- 1:56Speaker 1: You had to think like, I thought these field goals
- 1:58Speaker 1: are going to come back to bite us. Like these
- 2:00Speaker 1: field goals early are not going to be enough. They're
- 2:03Speaker 1: going to score some touchdowns. And right before halftime, they scored,
- 2:05Speaker 1: didn't they? To make it 12 to 10. And you
- 2:08Speaker 1: thought that's, that's probably not good. And Keelan made a
- 2:13Speaker 1: great play, got in the end zone. And I thought, shoot,
- 2:16Speaker 1: that's not good. I was driving to the Florida, Florida,
- 2:19Speaker 1: Florida state Miami game. And so I had it in
- 2:21Speaker 1: my air, like I was listening to it on radio.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I wasn't watching the game. I watched it later on
- 2:24Speaker 1: the highlights, but listening to it on the radio and
- 2:27Speaker 1: even the announcers for ESPN radio, we're saying that Bama
- 2:31Speaker 1: touchdowns big man. Now they get to come out and
- 2:34Speaker 1: it's basically a brand new ball game at 12 to 10.
- 2:37Speaker 1: So really, really impressive job for Tennessee and, the way
- 2:42Speaker 1: the sec is you don't, you don't get it. You
- 2:44Speaker 1: don't get to celebrate it for long. You don't get
- 2:45Speaker 1: to wear that thing too many more days. Um, but
- 2:49Speaker 1: a tough game at South Carolina, um, in Williams rice,
- 2:53Speaker 1: a game where Tennessee is the underdog.
- 2:56Speaker 2: I feel great about it. I'm ready to go. I
- 3:00Speaker 2: am ready to go. I'm just hope as long as
- 3:02Speaker 2: I don't see this, I think it'll be a good
- 3:04Speaker 2: ball game.
- 3:05Speaker 3: I think South Carolina is, At Williams-Brice is darn near– look,
- 3:10Speaker 3: they're favored by between.
- 3:11Speaker 2: One and two points. So, I mean, dadgum. They should
- 3:15Speaker 2: be able to play a– you don't need this, South Carolina.
- 3:18Speaker 2: You don't need any of this. Play a straight up.
- 3:22Speaker 2: You've got as good a chance of beating us as
- 3:23Speaker 2: we do you. And I think it's going to be
- 3:25Speaker 2: a great ball game. It's strength against strength. You know,
- 3:28Speaker 2: they're actually the number one team in rushing. Not Tennessee.
- 3:32Speaker 3: We're number two. But we've got the number one defense.
- 3:35Speaker 3: They've got the third-year starter at quarterback. We've got a
- 3:40Speaker 3: brand-new guy that this will be his third start ever
- 3:44Speaker 3: in college football.
- 3:45Speaker 2: He's not dynamic.
- 3:47Speaker 3: He can't run and do all the things that sellers
- 3:49Speaker 3: can do, but he seems to be doing just fine.
- 3:52Speaker 3: He's won every game he's been in so far, and
- 3:55Speaker 3: winning speaks pretty loudly to me. Yeah.
- 3:59Speaker 1: The thing that I wonder about with this game is
- 4:03Speaker 1: the talent on South Carolina's offense. Can this Tennessee defense
- 4:07Speaker 1: do it again? And can they do it on the road?
- 4:10Speaker 1: I think Bama is more talented, but I also think
- 4:14Speaker 1: that playing at home is a little easier than playing
- 4:16Speaker 1: on the road in Williams-Brice. And so if the defense
- 4:19Speaker 1: can hold South Carolina under 21, 24, then I really
- 4:24Speaker 1: like Tennessee's offense to find enough because the South Carolina
- 4:27Speaker 1: defense can get got, especially on the back end. The
- 4:31Speaker 1: defense has been so impressive, but Tennessee's going to ask
- 4:34Speaker 1: them to go do it one more time and help
- 4:37Speaker 1: them out. And again, not just one more time, the
- 4:39Speaker 1: rest of the season, they're going to need to continue
- 4:40Speaker 1: to be good. But that's my biggest question is what
- 4:43Speaker 1: does this defense do? Can they prove it again?
- 4:46Speaker 2: You know, I.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Thought Alabama might expose us because they had Keelan Russell
- 4:54Speaker 3: as a great running quarterback. He's a fantastic running quarterback,
- 4:57Speaker 3: very quick and elusive. And we got him. And part
- 5:00Speaker 3: of that was Neyland, I think, played a role in that. But,
- 5:02Speaker 3: you know, this team has shown me that the defense
- 5:05Speaker 3: seems to be pretty real. And Jim Knowles is confusing
- 5:08Speaker 3: offensive play callers, really confusing them. And he's coming at
- 5:13Speaker 3: them from different directions. And the secondary has been pretty
- 5:17Speaker 3: darn good. So I'm very pleased with that. And that
- 5:21Speaker 3: gives me some solace going into this game that the
- 5:24Speaker 3: defense usually travels pretty well.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Running the ball usually travels pretty well. I think the crowd, look,
- 5:31Speaker 3: Williams-Brice is a very loud place. And Neyland might be
- 5:36Speaker 3: number one loudest and probably is. But their top five, Williams-Brice,
- 5:41Speaker 3: and here's the thing that they do.
- 5:45Speaker 2: It's not the worst thing. It's not the cowbells.
- 5:49Speaker 3: It's not the, it never stops. It's not, which is
- 5:55Speaker 3: that's number one and number two, most difficult to deal with.
- 5:58Speaker 3: It's the, every 30 seconds. That is the loudest, most
- 6:06Speaker 3: brutal sound. It's way worse.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Than almost anything.
- 6:11Speaker 3: There's only two things that will annoy you more and
- 6:13Speaker 3: more difficult to play are the two.
- 6:14Speaker 2: That I just listed.
- 6:16Speaker 1: I'll get right back to the interview, but first I
- 6:17Speaker 1: want to give some love to our friends over at
- 6:19Speaker 1: Alumni Hall. Make sure you are using our code CFA15
- 6:23Speaker 1: for 15% off of your purchase at alumnihall.com or in person.

- 6:30Speaker 1: work both online and in-store. Doesn't sign you up for anything,
- 6:34Speaker 1: not a monthly subscription. They have the best and largest
- 6:37Speaker 1: selection of game day apparel and merchandise that you can find.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Make sure you're saving money on it. CFA15 will save
- 6:42Speaker 1: you 15%. Make sure you're using it. We appreciate Alumni
- 6:45Speaker 1: Hall for their support. The cowbell's got to be up there.
- 6:49Speaker 2: It's number one. Cowbell's number one.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Cowbell's got to be everybody's number one.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Because you're bringing a noisemaker, so it's number one.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Number two is the, I'm telling you, you can't even
- 6:58Speaker 3: go get a hot dog in an FSU game. The
- 7:01Speaker 3: guy selling you a hot dog is, here's your dog
- 7:04Speaker 3: in your chair. I don't care what you do. You're
- 7:07Speaker 3: going to hear that every, and it drives you crazy
- 7:09Speaker 3: as an opponent. I'm telling you, that is an advantage
- 7:13Speaker 3: for you guys. That chop is a big deal.
- 7:17Speaker 1: The play of George McIntyre, I think has improved week
- 7:22Speaker 1: over week over week. I thought he was better with
- 7:24Speaker 1: the night and throws for as many yards, but I
- 7:26Speaker 1: think 200 yards against Bama is more impressive than two
- 7:29Speaker 1: 50 against Arkansas. Also didn't have two turnovers are two
- 7:33Speaker 1: picks in this game against Bama. I thought, I think
- 7:36Speaker 1: he's getting better every single week. And I know we
- 7:39Speaker 1: were big brain and believers, but credit to Josh for
- 7:43Speaker 1: making the switch. I obviously hope Brandon gets back, gets healthy.
- 7:46Speaker 1: And then if he can make a difference, then, you know, help,
- 7:49Speaker 1: help out great. But I really do. I like the
- 7:52Speaker 1: way that McIntyre is playing week over week after week.
- 7:54Speaker 1: If the running game continues to do the heavy lifting,
- 7:58Speaker 1: it makes it a lot easier on McIntyre or Brandon,
- 8:01Speaker 1: whoever will play. But again, on George specifically, I really
- 8:05Speaker 1: like what he's doing. I think Josh's system helps with that.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I think the offensive line helps that in the running game,
- 8:10Speaker 1: the weapons out wide. And we talked about it. This
- 8:12Speaker 1: is a, an offense that's friendly to a young quarterback,
- 8:15Speaker 1: more friendly than a lot of places would be, but
- 8:17Speaker 1: the quarterback has to go out and do it, and
- 8:18Speaker 1: he's done a good job, I think.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Yeah, one of the things that I like that he did,
- 8:22Speaker 3: if you noticed in that one series where they took
- 8:25Speaker 3: nine and a half minutes off the clock, there were
- 8:27Speaker 3: multiple third downs, and he threw a slant and a
- 8:31Speaker 3: couple other passes where it needed to be timed up
- 8:34Speaker 3: just right, and it needed to be accurate because it
- 8:36Speaker 3: was a very nerve-wracking time. When you're trying to finish
- 8:40Speaker 3: a game off like that, those third downs are you know,
- 8:43Speaker 3: their turnover opportunities, basically, if you don't get it. And
- 8:46Speaker 3: he made three throws that hit guys like this, all
- 8:50Speaker 3: three of them. And they weren't low. They weren't high.
- 8:53Speaker 3: The guy didn't have to reach back. It was right
- 8:55Speaker 3: there to where even maybe a guy like me could
- 8:57Speaker 3: catch it. And under that pressure, that impressed me a lot.
- 9:02Speaker 3: That's like a guy that can sit there and sink
- 9:04Speaker 3: that downhill five foot breaker and it goes dead in
- 9:07Speaker 3: the middle and he just picks it up for a
- 9:09Speaker 3: par and goes the next hole. Those are the shots
- 9:12Speaker 3: that get you to 68, 67 in golf.
- 9:15Speaker 2: That's what he was able to do.
- 9:17Speaker 3: I thought those were game-winning plays that are sort of
- 9:20Speaker 3: understated because they weren't flashy. Flashy's wonderful and all that
- 9:25Speaker 3: for fun, but it's that third and five, making that
- 9:28Speaker 3: nice pass that he does quite well. Like I said,
- 9:32Speaker 3: he's not going to wow you, but that wows me. Yeah.
- 9:37Speaker 1: He just stands in with so much confidence. And I
- 9:40Speaker 1: think Brandon lost some of that when he got hurt.
- 9:42Speaker 1: So I don't want to just blame him entirely independent
- 9:47Speaker 1: of the injury. I think the injury had a lot
- 9:49Speaker 1: to do with it. And man, you get sacked that
- 9:52Speaker 1: many times and get hit that many times. It is
- 9:54Speaker 1: going to do something to you, especially as young as
- 9:56Speaker 1: he is. But I will tell you, it just looks
- 9:58Speaker 1: a little different with George out there. It just, that confidence,
- 10:01Speaker 1: that swagger, the way he carries himself. And not that
- 10:03Speaker 1: I think phase on struggle with that early. Cause I
- 10:05Speaker 1: thought phase on had a lot of those things too,
- 10:07Speaker 1: against the weaker part of this schedule. But I love
- 10:10Speaker 1: the way that McIntyre just looks so confident, so calm,
- 10:14Speaker 1: so cool collected, despite the, some of the challenges, despite
- 10:17Speaker 1: the interceptions, despite some of the mistakes he's made, he does, man.
- 10:21Speaker 1: He just fires it into there super, super efficiently, super,
- 10:26Speaker 1: super effectively. And I think that's commendable for sure.
- 10:29Speaker 3: You know, at one point he was a five star,
- 10:33Speaker 3: George was, and then he got lowered to a four star.
- 10:36Speaker 3: And that's kind of what they saw in high school
- 10:38Speaker 3: was just his accuracy. And I had watched him in
- 10:40Speaker 3: a lot of practice and he was the one guy
- 10:43Speaker 3: that seemed to always deliver it just exactly in the
- 10:46Speaker 3: right spot. You know, I probably watched a hundred passes
- 10:48Speaker 3: and it was like, he just always seemed to do that.
- 10:50Speaker 3: But Faison just brought a level of athleticism. I think
- 10:55Speaker 3: got the coaches excited. This is one, this is kind
- 10:58Speaker 3: of a, it's why you really don't want to start
- 11:00Speaker 3: a true freshman. It's just too hard in the SEC
- 11:03Speaker 3: or against really big time, powerful schools that you're going
- 11:06Speaker 3: to be able to pull that off.
- 11:07Speaker 2: I mean, what the, they put.
- 11:08Speaker 3: A freshman in an Ohio state game and he couldn't,
- 11:10Speaker 3: it's just, you, it's really hard to do anything.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Because you've got no experience. I mean, I was.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Talking to one of the TV guys the other day
- 11:19Speaker 3: when we were doing a show, and we'd had problems.
- 11:23Speaker 3: And last night, I knew how to fix it immediately,
- 11:26Speaker 3: and I'm sitting here going, man, I'm not a freshman
- 11:28Speaker 3: anymore at this. Whereas when I first started doing YouTube, man,
- 11:32Speaker 3: I'd have a mistake. And I mean, I was like frazzled.
- 11:34Speaker 3: I mean, I would cancel the show and redo it,
- 11:36Speaker 3: delete it. Now I can kind of work through it.
- 11:39Speaker 3: That's experience that this kid's got, you know, he's starting
- 11:43Speaker 3: to get some experience and he did have the first
- 11:46Speaker 3: year of learning the system. So I think it's easier
- 11:49Speaker 3: for George because of that extra year.
- 11:53Speaker 1: The thing that worries you the most outside of, uh,
- 11:58Speaker 1: outside of the crowd noise, is it a potential nefarious
- 12:01Speaker 1: things going on, on that South Carolina sideline? Uh, have you,
- 12:04Speaker 1: have you let that go over the last four years?
- 12:07Speaker 2: I think I've let it go. What are you talking about?
- 12:09Speaker 3: What do you think that it's even in my head?
- 12:12Speaker 1: Your two props. I love both props equally. The wristband
- 12:16Speaker 1: and the chain. Both of them at the same time.
- 12:18Speaker 1: I give the SEC so much grief for a nine-game
- 12:21Speaker 1: schedule and conference realignment and everything else. Sankey's an idiot.
- 12:24Speaker 1: All these things. The scheduling that they did to put
- 12:28Speaker 1: Bama the week before in Neyland so you knew you
- 12:30Speaker 1: were going to win. and then South Carolina right after,
- 12:33Speaker 1: so that Sports Talk Jay could wear a wristband and
- 12:35Speaker 1: a chain in the same week. It's just a marriage. Again,
- 12:39Speaker 1: I give Sankey so much crap, and you do too.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I've got to tip my cap to him. I think
- 12:43Speaker 1: this is a great job by the league scheduling office
- 12:45Speaker 1: because we got you here today.
- 12:47Speaker 3: I almost had to apologize to him because I've had
- 12:50Speaker 3: so much fun with these games.
- 12:52Speaker 2: The matchups have been so great, and I'm so mad
- 12:55Speaker 2: at him for not.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Getting us to the 16-team playoff, which he could have
- 12:59Speaker 3: used that to do with Tony Petitti, but I got
- 13:02Speaker 3: to admit, it's been a blast. Last Saturday and the
- 13:05Speaker 3: Saturday before, they might be the best we've ever had
- 13:08Speaker 3: as far as just big-time games. And then the Big
- 13:10Speaker 3: Ten threw in some games like Indiana, Ohio State, and
- 13:13Speaker 3: then you guys played Miami.
- 13:15Speaker 2: And I'm sitting here going, I couldn't keep up. Notre Dame-BYU?
- 13:18Speaker 2: It's just fascinating. Oh, yeah. It's phenomenal.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Listen, I think this game is incredibly underrated. we have,
- 13:27Speaker 1: could Texas be out? Could like Sark loses. I don't know.
- 13:30Speaker 1: He's gonna lose a job, but like Sark and Ole
- 13:31Speaker 1: Miss pay Peyton's or Archie's team.
- 13:35Speaker 2: That's a fantastic game.
- 13:37Speaker 1: That game is off the charts and it's must win
- 13:39Speaker 1: for Texas. So what, what tricks do they pull out?
- 13:42Speaker 1: You got the controversy with arch. Are they going to
- 13:43Speaker 1: start somebody or not starts, but you got the backup
- 13:46Speaker 1: taking first team reps.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Um, And we got Bama LSU next week. Yeah. In
- 13:51Speaker 2: an elimination game.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Notre Dame-Miami's coming up. BYU-Utah's coming up. Like, I'm telling you,
- 13:59Speaker 1: it doesn't get– college football. You know, Josh Pate tweets
- 14:02Speaker 1: the up emoji, like the line going up, you know,
- 14:06Speaker 1: the upward chart or whatever. College football is on fire
- 14:09Speaker 1: right now. So who wins South Carolina-Tennessee? Do you guys
- 14:12Speaker 1: pull it off?
- 14:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Tennessee will– I think we'll pull it off.
- 14:16Speaker 3: But I think it'll be a tough ballgame. I do
- 14:18Speaker 3: not think we'll see these. I think we've done our job.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Everybody at South Carolina knows you can't do this anymore.
- 14:24Speaker 3: So I don't think we're going to see that anymore.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Thank goodness. And South Carolina just needs to play us
- 14:29Speaker 3: straight up. They have a very legitimate chance of winning
- 14:32Speaker 3: this game. That Williams-Brice is no joke. I think that's
- 14:35Speaker 3: a significant help to them, just like Neyland is. And
- 14:39Speaker 3: that crowd's going to be there, man. They want to
- 14:41Speaker 3: beat Tennessee so bad that they can't stand it. They
- 14:45Speaker 3: can taste it. It's the only thing I think they'd
- 14:47Speaker 3: rather beat Clemson if they had the choice, but I
- 14:50Speaker 3: think Tennessee would be number two right behind that for
- 14:53Speaker 3: South Carolina.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Sports Talk Jay. Go check him out on YouTube. Jay,
- 14:57Speaker 1: we appreciate you. We appreciate our friends over at PrizePix.
- 15:00Speaker 1: We're all new users who play a $ 5 lineup and win.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Get $ 150 in lineups instantly if they use code HMA.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Good luck, Jay. Hopefully we get more props next week.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Oh, Lord.
- 15:10Speaker 2: We'll come up with something.
- 15:12Speaker 1: I appreciate you, bud. All right.
