- 0:19Speaker 2: I am so proud of them. Why are you proud?
- 0:21Speaker 3: I'm like children, but but I really am proud of you.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Yeah, the very first.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Who am I even? I'm proud of you.
- 0:34Speaker 4: I would say he's a little better than Evan makes
- 0:36Speaker 4: him out to be, but not a time I wouldn't.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I'm not putting. I would just see White's fit after
- 0:42Speaker 2: the game.
- 0:43Speaker 4: He's always got He's always got cool being unhipped.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Are they glizzies? What's that?
- 0:51Speaker 5: Glizzie?
- 0:52Speaker 6: It's just another name for it.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Who gave you that name? I just picture Paul on
- 0:56Speaker 2: the Yeah, on the Renegade motion sofa and that kind
- 0:59Speaker 2: of go berserk. It's like this, watching the game and
- 1:03Speaker 2: die over the place the Bengals.
- 1:07Speaker 4: This is Patriots Unfiltered.

- 1:15Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 1:19Speaker 2: at you Let's Stadium. We're talking Patriots for the next
- 1:22Speaker 2: couple hours and whatever else comes to mind. It's Paul,
- 1:25Speaker 2: it's me, Deuce, We'll be here, Evan will be here.
- 1:28Speaker 2: They're in the locker room right now. Yes, talking to
- 1:31Speaker 2: the guys.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Finished. We heard from Gerrodmeo, Jacoby Brissett, David Andrews had
- 1:36Speaker 4: come in. That's when I left to come to see you. Yeah,
- 1:39Speaker 4: and I think that they were heading into the locker
- 1:42Speaker 4: room after that. But I just love that. I love
- 1:45Speaker 4: the open today. It's just like, you know, one win,
- 1:48Speaker 4: completely changed, Like we're all smiling, laughing. It really does,
- 1:52Speaker 4: you know, talking about the guy's fit. Glizzies, you're the Bengals.
- 1:56Speaker 4: You're how proud you are of your children.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Your shows are all positive. It's it's unbelievable.
- 2:02Speaker 8: One day.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's we're back to Homerville. But that's fine. It's
- 2:07Speaker 2: one week. We got another challenge coming up with the Seahawks.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Wednesday is the turn the page day. It's typically under Belichick,
- 2:16Speaker 2: and I assume under Gerard it's the same thing. This
- 2:18Speaker 2: is the day that they get their game plan. It's
- 2:20Speaker 2: the you know, the day where they find out how
- 2:23Speaker 2: are they going to attack the Seattle Seahawks and what
- 2:26Speaker 2: what can they expect from the Seahawks.
- 2:29Speaker 8: Early today, you know tomorrow.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I know they're going to be in pads today, so
- 2:36Speaker 2: you know, maybe you'll get some some goal lines to
- 2:38Speaker 2: I don't know, but anyway, this is the day that
- 2:41Speaker 2: they start preparing for the Seattle Seahawks in terms of
- 2:43Speaker 2: the players. So what do you think? I mean, we
- 2:48Speaker 2: we talked about Week one and two are the toughest
- 2:50Speaker 2: weeks to pick games other than the last week of
- 2:53Speaker 2: the season when you don't know who's playing. But Seahawks
- 2:56Speaker 2: had a good game last week. They I picked the Broncos.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I was wrong.
- 3:00Speaker 4: You know, they were okay, they were a little sloppy,
- 3:03Speaker 4: but I think they were a much better team. I
- 3:06Speaker 4: think the game kind of was closer on the scoreboard
- 3:09Speaker 4: than it was on the field, if that makes any sense.
- 3:12Speaker 4: But yeah, I think there's a lot of similarities, you know,
- 3:15Speaker 4: and looking at I did try to watch a good
- 3:17Speaker 4: chunk of that second half when I got home, you know,
- 3:21Speaker 4: with my red zone viewing. And you know, Mike McDonald's
- 3:25Speaker 4: youngest head coach in football, Gered Mayo is right behind
- 3:29Speaker 4: second Youngestty. I think they're thirty seven and thirty eight.
- 3:33Speaker 4: They want to play defense, both teams. They want to
- 3:36Speaker 4: run the ball. Both teams they want to be physical.
- 3:40Speaker 4: I would say that one thing that Seattle has at
- 3:42Speaker 4: the Patriots don't is a little bit more explosiveness at
- 3:45Speaker 4: the receiver spot. But I don't know how much that
- 3:48Speaker 4: comes into play because I don't really think they like
- 3:50Speaker 4: to play that way.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Well, is that because of Geno Smith?
- 3:53Speaker 4: I think it's the way they play in general. But
- 3:57Speaker 4: you know, they haven't really had you know, since Russell Wilson.
- 3:59Speaker 4: You're whole thing like let Russ Cook. That's where that
- 4:02Speaker 4: dult Cook thing started with Russell Wilson when he was
- 4:05Speaker 4: sort of in his prime and it never really works.
- 4:07Speaker 4: That was kind of the downfall of Russell Wilson's time
- 4:11Speaker 4: in Seattle. So Pete Carroll always wanted to run the ball.
- 4:13Speaker 4: It looks like the Seahawks want to play in a
- 4:15Speaker 4: similar way.
- 4:16Speaker 2: What They've got some talent on offense they do.
- 4:18Speaker 4: I mean they have three good receivers with Metcalf, Lockett In,
- 4:22Speaker 4: Jackson Smith and Jigba and yeah, a decent tight end. Absolutely,
- 4:26Speaker 4: Kenneth Walker is a really forget Yeah, he is the backup.
- 4:30Speaker 4: I didn't know that. I actually saw that on the
- 4:32Speaker 4: depth of Farrow. But you know, Kenneth Walker's are really
- 4:36Speaker 4: good back and that's what they lean on. Now here's
- 4:39Speaker 4: a you know, a big X factor. He had a
- 4:41Speaker 4: great game in the opener against Denver, had over one
- 4:43Speaker 4: hundred yards with about eleven minutes left from the game.
- 4:46Speaker 4: He had a leaf. Didn't play anything in the last
- 4:48Speaker 4: two series as they're trying to run the clock out,
- 4:50Speaker 4: so he had an abdominal problem. He, I guess told
- 4:54Speaker 4: reporters after the game that he's good. But I think
- 4:57Speaker 4: T Higgins said after the Thursday practice that he pulled
- 5:01Speaker 4: his hamstring, that he was good, and he didn't practice
- 5:04Speaker 4: Friday and didn't play in the game. So that's something
- 5:07Speaker 4: worth monitoring because I think that's a much different situation
- 5:10Speaker 4: with Zach Sharboney as their backup running back.
- 5:13Speaker 8: He's not Kenneth.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Walker, right. So, and then on defense, I'm just looking
- 5:17Speaker 2: at Leonard Williams.
- 5:19Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, they have, I mean they have. You know,
- 5:22Speaker 4: last year this is kind of similar to Cincinnati. They
- 5:24Speaker 4: were not very good stopping them. As a matter of fact,
- 5:26Speaker 4: they were even worse than the Bengals stopping the run
- 5:28Speaker 4: last year. Just looking at the first game, looks like
- 5:32Speaker 4: they addressed that. They were much much better, and most
- 5:35Speaker 4: of the rushing yards they did allow against Denver were
- 5:37Speaker 4: on bow Nick scrambles, not designed runs by Bonnix, just
- 5:41Speaker 4: him running for his life. They had a lot of Yeah,
- 5:43Speaker 4: they got a lot of pressure on the on the
- 5:44Speaker 4: rookie quarterback, and I think he had over thirty of
- 5:47Speaker 4: their ninety yards like they didn't. They couldn't run the
- 5:50Speaker 4: ball at all. So Leonard Williams been a good player
- 5:53Speaker 4: for a long time. They have some beef upfront, Jonathan Hankins,
- 5:57Speaker 4: and I know they drafted Byron Murphy. I'm not sure
- 5:59Speaker 4: how much he's factored in already, but they were much
- 6:02Speaker 4: better against the run in the in Week one than
- 6:04Speaker 4: they were last year.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so I'm thinking, you know, even though you got
- 6:09Speaker 2: the Seahawks traveling across country for a one o'clock game,
- 6:12Speaker 2: I think this is going to be more of a
- 6:14Speaker 2: challenge than last week. And we're going to get to
- 6:16Speaker 2: our picks tomorrow, but.
- 6:17Speaker 4: It'll definitely be more in a challenge. I don't think
- 6:19Speaker 4: there's any because I think Seattle will play hard. I
- 6:22Speaker 4: don't think Cincinnati was mentally.
- 6:24Speaker 8: Ready to go.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Something was wrong there.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I think in retrospect, and I'm not
- 6:28Speaker 4: trying to make excuses for you know, you got it right.
- 6:31Speaker 4: I said that to you yesterday and I got it wrong.
- 6:35Speaker 4: But I think I personally underestimated the amount of drama
- 6:39Speaker 4: that was going on. I listened to Mike Reheese talk
- 6:41Speaker 4: about that this morning. He and I talked about it
- 6:43Speaker 4: yesterday when we were filming All Access, Like, sometimes you
- 6:46Speaker 4: forget like these guys are human beings, right, and that
- 6:50Speaker 4: plays a role. You know, t Higgins, whether or not
- 6:52Speaker 4: he's irritated having a play Trey Hendrickson, you know, wanted
- 6:57Speaker 4: to trade earlier in the offseason, ended up coming in
- 7:00Speaker 4: and playing. Jamar Chase skipped the entirety of of camp,
- 7:05Speaker 4: so how ready was he? And then mentally those guys
- 7:08Speaker 4: like if you if you're Jamar Chase and you know,
- 7:12Speaker 4: will close the book on Cincinnati, you know obviously now,
- 7:15Speaker 4: But if you're Jamar Chase and you see like T
- 7:18Speaker 4: Higgins has done everything that they've asked, like and they
- 7:20Speaker 4: franchise them, why won't they give him a contract? They're
- 7:23Speaker 4: gonna do the same thing to me next year? Yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 4: you know, I'll come back and play but you know,
- 7:27Speaker 4: the next year, I'm gonna need my I want my contract,
- 7:30Speaker 4: and they're gonna give me the fifty year option and
- 7:32Speaker 4: and I'm not gonna get my money either. I want
- 7:34Speaker 4: to mentally that I think that weighs on you.
- 7:36Speaker 2: I just wonder what that franchise if for different reasons,
- 7:40Speaker 2: like Andrew Luck, if Joe Burrow is going to be
- 7:42Speaker 2: wasted talent.
- 7:43Speaker 4: I heard someone say this about Joe Burrow is going
- 7:45Speaker 4: to be Andrew Luck, and I don't think it's the world.
- 7:48Speaker 4: I don't think he's been beaten up like he has.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Injuries, I said, for different reasons like but I don't
- 7:53Speaker 2: they just won't support.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like that they can't get out of their
- 7:56Speaker 4: own way still. And I think they did a lot
- 7:58Speaker 4: of things right Cincinnati, and they got to the bottom
- 8:01Speaker 4: of the league and got the number one overall pick,
- 8:03Speaker 4: and since then they've done a lot of good things. Yea,
- 8:06Speaker 4: But now they're not taking care of that and they're
- 8:09Speaker 4: not making sure that that good stuff continues.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Only bad things can happen to them, all right, So
- 8:14Speaker 2: we turned the page. Did you happen to hear coach Mayo?
- 8:18Speaker 4: Yeah? I was in I was in on Mayo. You know,
- 8:24Speaker 4: can I have observationally, you know, just we've now had
- 8:28Speaker 4: you know, I don't know whatever it is two months
- 8:31Speaker 4: worth of you know, mostly daily updates from drive mail.
- 8:37Speaker 4: I wish that you wouldn't tell us what we think
- 8:39Speaker 4: of everybody all the time. Like he's always saying, like,
- 8:42Speaker 4: you know, you guys don't know much about Reminder Steve.
- 8:44Speaker 4: You know, like he he doesn't have you know, Kenneth Walker.
- 8:47Speaker 4: You know, he really pops off the tape. You know,
- 8:49Speaker 4: I don't know what his Madden rating is or you know,
- 8:52Speaker 4: you guys don't know how good he is. Like why
- 8:54Speaker 4: does he always have to tell us what we you
- 8:56Speaker 4: know what I mean? Like if you think, like you
- 8:59Speaker 4: think Pete covering the Patriots, don't understand that Rminder Stevenson's
- 9:02Speaker 4: pretty good. Yeah, right, yeah, you know what I mean. Yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 4: And like that's that's one of my takeaways, Like he's
- 9:10Speaker 4: kind of always.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah, don't bring your own perceptions into the discussion until
- 9:15Speaker 2: you're asked.
- 9:16Speaker 4: You know, like like two years ago, Reminder Stevenson had
- 9:19Speaker 4: over you know, like eleven hundred yards rushing and he
- 9:21Speaker 4: caught like sixty seven passes. I think people think that
- 9:24Speaker 4: Mirander Stevenson's a pretty good player when he's healthy, right,
- 9:27Speaker 4: and the key is keeping him healthy.
- 9:30Speaker 5: Right.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Yeah, So that's.
- 9:32Speaker 4: One of the things that like, like, you know, like crutches. Yeah,
- 9:36Speaker 4: when I think Gerard has one of those, like he
- 9:40Speaker 4: he sort of throws it in there. Like in another
- 9:43Speaker 4: one today, he was like, you know, and you know,
- 9:45Speaker 4: you guys will stop asking me the quarterback. Now we
- 9:47Speaker 4: know who's playing, so you guys will stop asking me
- 9:49Speaker 4: the offensive line questions and the quarterback. But like, like,
- 9:53Speaker 4: if I'm a writer and I want to ask how
- 9:55Speaker 4: Drake May is doing, I'm going to feel I should
- 9:58Speaker 4: feel comfortable enough to do that.
- 10:00Speaker 2: It's another way of leading the witness. Maybe I don't know, but.
- 10:03Speaker 4: But nothing too pressing. I didn't think, Yeah I didn't.
- 10:05Speaker 2: I didn't hear most of it because I was doing
- 10:08Speaker 2: something else. And then I tuned in and I just
- 10:10Speaker 2: caught the tail end and he was talking about, you know,
- 10:12Speaker 2: maybe remandre O run for one hundred and fifty yards,
- 10:15Speaker 2: maybe Jacoby will throw for three hundred. I don't know,
- 10:19Speaker 2: Like what was he what was that?
- 10:20Speaker 4: I think he's sort of trying to get away from
- 10:22Speaker 4: you know, I'm just going to let you know what
- 10:24Speaker 4: the game plan is right a week, you know what
- 10:25Speaker 4: I mean. I think that was an effort to do that.
- 10:28Speaker 4: He did talk about having some confidence in the ability
- 10:31Speaker 4: to change, you know, within the game, and you know,
- 10:35Speaker 4: like we we might want to run the ball, but
- 10:36Speaker 4: if the game doesn't unfold that way, we feel pretty
- 10:39Speaker 4: comfortable because we were able to do that last week, you know,
- 10:42Speaker 4: we were able to sort of change. Then it's funny
- 10:45Speaker 4: because Brissette came out and said, oh, you know, we
- 10:47Speaker 4: basically ran the same play over and over and over
- 10:49Speaker 4: again because they couldn't stop it, you know.
- 10:51Speaker 8: So I thought those two things were kind of conflicting.
- 10:54Speaker 4: We got by the way, as Jacoby Brissett came out
- 10:58Speaker 4: right after Mayo, he sat down, had just started his
- 11:02Speaker 4: press brieving, and Mayo came back in with an orange
- 11:04Speaker 4: enose hoodie that Brissett had to wear because NC State
- 11:09Speaker 4: got obliterated by Tennessee. So I guess that was on
- 11:12Speaker 4: behalf of Girod Mayo and Joe Milton. There you go
- 11:15Speaker 4: the Tennessee.
- 11:16Speaker 2: We got lucky on on our content team because for
- 11:20Speaker 2: the Bengals game, we miked up Ramandre Stevenson. Yes, so
- 11:24Speaker 2: I think if that's not already on patries dot com,
- 11:27Speaker 2: it's going to be out soon. I think, is it
- 11:29Speaker 2: out there yet? I'm not sure.
- 11:31Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yeah, but we got lucky, you know.
- 11:34Speaker 4: I do know that we had Stevenson micd up. I
- 11:37Speaker 4: haven't yeah, I haven't heard any of it.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Yep. So we're going to effort to get a player
- 11:43Speaker 2: miked up for every game. I don't know if it's
- 11:45Speaker 2: going to happen, but we've got somebody in the works
- 11:48Speaker 2: for next week. I can't tell that yet now.
- 11:50Speaker 4: I'm I will not remember all the different players. But
- 11:54Speaker 4: Gerard opened the press conference by explaining how after wins
- 11:57Speaker 4: he will be announcing the practice players of the week.
- 12:02Speaker 8: You know guys that that were.
- 12:04Speaker 2: It, the black shirt guys.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know if they wear black shirts. The
- 12:07Speaker 4: way that Bill used to do this would be another thing.
- 12:10Speaker 4: By the way, I'm gonna give you a little forecasting.
- 12:12Speaker 4: There'll be people on the radio today that say Bill
- 12:14Speaker 4: would have never done that, right, right when Bill did
- 12:17Speaker 4: it every week, But but he didn't announce them. He
- 12:22Speaker 4: put them in black jerseys. And if you went out
- 12:24Speaker 4: to practice and did your job, you knew who those
- 12:26Speaker 4: guys were right. So it was like Eric Johnson, Joe
- 12:30Speaker 4: Milton was one of them. I think Kayshawn Booty was
- 12:33Speaker 4: one of them.
- 12:34Speaker 8: And there was.
- 12:36Speaker 4: A couple of practice squad names that I wasn't overly
- 12:38Speaker 4: familiar with, Oshawan someone not. Zimman is a different guy
- 12:45Speaker 4: that has only been here for a short time. But
- 12:47Speaker 4: he sing it was probably like a half dozen players.
- 12:49Speaker 4: He singled them out for being really instrumental.
- 12:52Speaker 2: In the dirty prep.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Yeah, the prep work, the scout team work. So he
- 12:55Speaker 4: wanted to recognize those guys.
- 12:57Speaker 2: That's good.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it is good.
- 12:59Speaker 2: The team reck ignition stuff, much like the captain's patch.
- 13:02Speaker 2: You know, your captain wear the patch, you know, like
- 13:04Speaker 2: why are we hiding it?
- 13:06Speaker 9: You know?
- 13:06Speaker 2: So you know, little things like that. I I my
- 13:10Speaker 2: sense of drawd is. I think he's getting a little
- 13:15Speaker 2: bit more confident, and I was even before the win.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I think he's he's figuring this whole thing out. But
- 13:23Speaker 2: I get this. I agree with the little things like
- 13:26Speaker 2: don't lead the witness, don't try to guess what the
- 13:30Speaker 2: writers are thinking or what they want, or you know,
- 13:33Speaker 2: make your statement, tell them what you want to tell them.
- 13:35Speaker 2: And then and then take the question.
- 13:37Speaker 4: It's like, you know, he doesn't get a lot of publicity.
- 13:40Speaker 4: I would strongly disagree with that. I think Kenneth Walker
- 13:43Speaker 4: and Ramondre Stevenson are really considered to be really solid
- 13:47Speaker 4: runbacks in that league.
- 13:48Speaker 2: But let's face it, you know, this offense didn't deserve
- 13:51Speaker 2: a lot of publicity leading up to this year. I mean,
- 13:54Speaker 2: nobody WRO.
- 13:55Speaker 4: But I'm saying Stevenson has been no I like one
- 13:58Speaker 4: of them, I mean.
- 13:59Speaker 2: The lone folk point. Well, I think we said all
- 14:03Speaker 2: off season that he's probably their best offensive player right now,
- 14:08Speaker 2: you know, yeah.
- 14:10Speaker 4: And I think that it's like nothing that happened Sunday.
- 14:14Speaker 2: And he's gonna need to be.
- 14:15Speaker 4: Nothing that will happened Sunday was out of the ordinary.
- 14:17Speaker 4: No from Andre Stevenson. I don't know what his career
- 14:22Speaker 4: high in yards is. I don't know if you know,
- 14:24Speaker 4: one hundred and twenty is the But like to me,
- 14:26Speaker 4: it's irrelevant, Like he's had a lot of games that
- 14:29Speaker 4: were good. Now, maybe he had more yards in this
- 14:31Speaker 4: game than he's had before. And I think he's only
- 14:34Speaker 4: had four or five hundred yard games in his career.
- 14:36Speaker 4: But I've seen him have a lot of good games
- 14:38Speaker 4: where he's averaging like five yards of carry, and maybe
- 14:42Speaker 4: they split the carries a little bit more, so he
- 14:43Speaker 4: ended up with eighty instead of one hundred and twent.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I think the thing about him is he's a good
- 14:49Speaker 2: he's a good player. Stay healthy and stay healthy, and
- 14:53Speaker 2: with a little bit of help in the blocking game,
- 14:57Speaker 2: you know, he could be one of the top backs.
- 14:59Speaker 2: And that's the only thing holding him back. I don't
- 15:02Speaker 2: think it was his own skill.
- 15:04Speaker 4: Yeah, And like I think that sometimes, like I would
- 15:09Speaker 4: argue hit the contract extension, Like I'm not necessarily a
- 15:15Speaker 4: big fan of extending running.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Backs right or running backs period.
- 15:18Speaker 4: But that's why not because of Ramadre Stevenson. You just
- 15:21Speaker 4: led me perfectly into my point, Like I have no
- 15:24Speaker 4: problem with Ramondre Stevenson's ability as a running back. I
- 15:28Speaker 4: don't necessarily think it's great to extend running backs period
- 15:33Speaker 4: unless it's like just the elite of the elite, right,
- 15:36Speaker 4: And I think that ramondra Stevenson, say, very good running back.
- 15:39Speaker 4: I don't think he's Christian McCaffrey, right, yep.
- 15:43Speaker 8: So that's all.
- 15:45Speaker 4: But I think that that's kind of what Gerad was
- 15:47Speaker 4: talking about. I was like, you know, you got you know,
- 15:48Speaker 4: maybe he heard people say, like, man, I don't know
- 15:51Speaker 4: about why they extended him. That's like a slam on
- 15:54Speaker 4: the player. No, it's now the position.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Yep. Yeah, So how do you think the Patriots will
- 16:02Speaker 2: attack this Seattle defense? So they because they from what
- 16:09Speaker 2: I understand, don't they have issues in their back end?
- 16:11Speaker 4: No, they have a good secondary, do they.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I thought they were having two.
- 16:15Speaker 4: Really good corners in Riquellen in Devon Witherspoon.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Okay, so there's no I thought there was some weakness
- 16:22Speaker 2: that they had back there. I don't know.
- 16:25Speaker 8: Now.
- 16:25Speaker 4: I think they were better last year against the past
- 16:28Speaker 4: than they were against the run, and then they were
- 16:30Speaker 4: really good. They only a loted like one hundred and
- 16:32Speaker 4: thirty yards in the opener. But again, they played a
- 16:34Speaker 4: rookie quarterback in his first game. That's a tough spot.
- 16:38Speaker 4: I mean, I'm not going to say bo Nick stinks
- 16:40Speaker 4: because he went to Seattle in his first ever game
- 16:43Speaker 4: and was held in check. But I thought Seattle's defense
- 16:48Speaker 4: dictated that game a little bit. I'd be curious to
- 16:50Speaker 4: see they change now for years and years, you know,
- 16:52Speaker 4: the Pete Carroll you know, back way back, you know,
- 16:55Speaker 4: with like Dan Quinn even you know, when he was
- 16:58Speaker 4: a defensive coordinator and they were always known for that
- 17:01Speaker 4: three three deep look, and you know they played the safeties.
- 17:05Speaker 4: It was kept everything in front of them. I'd be
- 17:07Speaker 4: curious to see with Mike McDonald, who comes from Baltimore
- 17:10Speaker 4: and you know before that, you know in Michigan. I'd
- 17:15Speaker 4: be curious to see if they do a little bit
- 17:17Speaker 4: more aggressive upfront. I know they got a lot of
- 17:19Speaker 4: pressure on Knicks if they go with the same kind
- 17:22Speaker 4: of approach and they try to get after him with
- 17:24Speaker 4: four or there. Because you know, Evan talked about it
- 17:27Speaker 4: yesterday a little bit. They disguise a lot and you
- 17:29Speaker 4: don't know who's coming. It's not necessarily blitzing, but they
- 17:33Speaker 4: do a good job of mixing and matching, kind of
- 17:35Speaker 4: like the Patriots have done.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, they could be a sneaky good team.
- 17:39Speaker 2: They get overshadowed in that NFC West, you know, by
- 17:42Speaker 2: the Chiefs, obviously.
- 17:45Speaker 4: But they're like, to me, there's there's like somewhere between
- 17:48Speaker 4: like eight and nine, nine and eight in that general area.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Gino Smith's interesting because we all know of his you know,
- 17:56Speaker 2: comeback if you will into the league. He's a guy
- 18:01Speaker 2: that has a lot of confidence. You know, maybe his
- 18:04Speaker 2: ability doesn't match up to his confidence. So I think
- 18:07Speaker 2: he'll make mistakes whereas a guy like Jacoby Brissett won't.
- 18:11Speaker 2: But he'll also make more plays than Jacoby Brissett will.
- 18:15Speaker 2: So I would not underestimate Gino Smith in this game.
- 18:18Speaker 4: Well, I think that that would be the way that
- 18:20Speaker 4: they're going to have to win the game if Seattle's
- 18:22Speaker 4: going to come here.
- 18:23Speaker 8: They need to be balanced.
- 18:24Speaker 4: They can't just hand the ball to Kenneth Walker and
- 18:27Speaker 4: hope that the quarterback doesn't do anything. I think their edge,
- 18:30Speaker 4: to me would be the combination of being able to
- 18:34Speaker 4: run in through Yeah, but I haven't seen Smith do
- 18:37Speaker 4: that really that when he came back, you know, that
- 18:40Speaker 4: was two years ago now. The first half of that season,
- 18:43Speaker 4: he took the league by storm. He was playing really,
- 18:45Speaker 4: really well. It kind of tapered off at the end,
- 18:48Speaker 4: you know, and they got knocked out of the playoffs.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Last year I think was kind of yeah, yeah, you know,
- 18:54Speaker 4: he's kind of like what the Gino Smith that we remember.
- 18:57Speaker 4: He's not without talent, but he's just okay, Yeah, I
- 19:00Speaker 4: kind of that's the way I think of him, and
- 19:02Speaker 4: I don't think they want him throwing the ball thirty
- 19:04Speaker 4: plus times. Yeah, I think it's hard to win that way.
- 19:08Speaker 4: And again I say the same up about.
- 19:09Speaker 2: The Patriots, and he will make mistakes. So you know,
- 19:12Speaker 2: they might be able to bait him into a few things,
- 19:14Speaker 2: but they're gonna have to wear like mistakes.
- 19:16Speaker 4: Don't bother me if you make place.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Yeah, but they are gonna have to worry about his legs.
- 19:20Speaker 4: He will run, Yeah, He's not really a huge run.
- 19:23Speaker 4: He's a little light persett. Yeah, he will run. Now,
- 19:26Speaker 4: I know everybody saw the thirty four yard touchdown. They're like,
- 19:28Speaker 4: whoa wow, Like, I don't think that's what he's going
- 19:31Speaker 4: to make his living doing. Yeah, it's a good run.
- 19:34Speaker 4: I give him that. That was That was an impressive touchdown.
- 19:36Speaker 2: So I can't wait. I have no idea. I don't
- 19:41Speaker 2: think anyone.
- 19:42Speaker 8: Doesn't have a feel for this one yet.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Just saving if it takes a little bit of time,
- 19:46Speaker 2: I have to my field develops over the course of
- 19:49Speaker 2: the week, you.
- 19:50Speaker 8: Know, fair point.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not gonna mock you not have to picking
- 19:53Speaker 4: that upset.
- 19:54Speaker 2: All right, So du said, Evan will be here as
- 19:55Speaker 2: soon as locker room closes up, and then I think
- 19:58Speaker 2: Evan's going to go out to practice for a little.
- 20:00Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 20:00Speaker 4: I think Deuce will come in shortly and every probably
- 20:02Speaker 4: we will we will not see on Wednesday.
- 20:04Speaker 2: So eight five five, Pat's five hundred is the TPX hotline.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Web radio at Patriots dot com is the email address,
- 20:14Speaker 2: so we might as well get right to you. Your
- 20:17Speaker 2: calls and emails. Will start off the calling with Sean
- 20:21Speaker 2: and Vancouver on the TPX houtline.
- 20:23Speaker 10: What's up, Sean, Hey, Fred, I have a few things.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Hey, Sean, muzzle tough already and I'm here.
- 20:31Speaker 10: Can you hear me?
- 20:31Speaker 2: Oh yeah, turn that up? Yeah, Hello, yeah, we can
- 20:35Speaker 2: hear I just want to turn up the volume. Okay,
- 20:38Speaker 2: So ahead, Sean, yep.
- 20:40Speaker 10: First of all, muzzle Tough on calling that that score.
- 20:45Speaker 10: I think you and Pat and aguan On are the
- 20:47Speaker 10: only one who got that right. So that's pretty amazing.
- 20:51Speaker 10: And there's just a few things. One thing I wanted
- 20:55Speaker 10: to say is I'm really happy that Bentley taking over
- 20:59Speaker 10: the duties from Slater in terms of the post game cheer.
- 21:04Speaker 10: I mean, that's a good tradition with the linebackers leading
- 21:07Speaker 10: the team, going back to Bruski and then Mayo and
- 21:11Speaker 10: now Bentley having a strong captain role, which I appreciate.
- 21:16Speaker 11: La.
- 21:17Speaker 12: I don't know if you if you.
- 21:18Speaker 10: Saw the Tostitos ads with Brady and Edelman, which I
- 21:21Speaker 10: thought was fun. I don't know if you've got a
- 21:23Speaker 10: chance to see that one yet. And the other thing
- 21:26Speaker 10: I want to talk about is the game coming up.
- 21:28Speaker 10: I was watching the Seattle Broncos game after the Patriots game,
- 21:31Speaker 10: and I noticed something that's kind of interesting. Seattle really
- 21:34Speaker 10: didn't do anything offensively in the first half, but on
- 21:37Speaker 10: the second half they were able to take advantage of
- 21:39Speaker 10: the safety movement. So when the safeties were playing back,
- 21:42Speaker 10: they ran the ball and Kenth Walker had a great
- 21:45Speaker 10: game in the second half, and then when they came
- 21:49Speaker 10: in to the box, they were able to pass and
- 21:51Speaker 10: they saw that. So I think in this game, Pepper's
- 21:55Speaker 10: and Duggar have to like just have some movement pre
- 21:59Speaker 10: snap to try and him a little bit. Also, offensively,
- 22:03Speaker 10: I'd like to see the Patriots take a couple of
- 22:06Speaker 10: shots downfield on play actions. So that's all I got.
- 22:09Speaker 10: I'll take it off there.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Thanksbo Okay, thanks for the call. Sean. Yeah, I mean
- 22:12Speaker 2: he mentioned linebackers with the h it was Slater the
- 22:16Speaker 2: last few years, that's what he said.
- 22:18Speaker 4: But he's not a linebacker, no, but he said he'd
- 22:20Speaker 4: liked to see him taking it over for Slater back
- 22:22Speaker 4: to the linebub.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Back to the linebackers.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, I'm Sean's right, like, and I just that
- 22:31Speaker 4: was my because I didn't see much of the first half.
- 22:33Speaker 4: I just saw like little highlights here and there as
- 22:36Speaker 4: we were watching while we were doing postgame. I did
- 22:38Speaker 4: see most of the second half that they showed, and
- 22:41Speaker 4: I didn't really I wasn't overly impressed offensively with anything Seattle.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Did you know. They racked up some points eventually, but
- 22:50Speaker 4: to me, it was more product of the other team
- 22:54Speaker 4: just not being able to do anything offensively, putting him
- 22:57Speaker 4: in good situations and they were able to take advantage.
- 23:01Speaker 4: I thought it was a good win for Seattle, Like
- 23:03Speaker 4: I think that's a game that you need to win
- 23:05Speaker 4: at home against Denver with a rookie quarterback in the opener.
- 23:08Speaker 4: But you know that does mean I don't give him
- 23:11Speaker 4: any credit for it. I thought it was a good,
- 23:12Speaker 4: solid win for them.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Gonzo's role in this game, do you think you'll see
- 23:16Speaker 2: him a lot one on one with Metcalf.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Or that's how I would you know, this is another one.
- 23:22Speaker 4: You know, the after show yesterday, Evan and I as
- 23:25Speaker 4: we were walking back, I was like, I mean, it
- 23:27Speaker 4: kind of would make sense to have Gonzales with Metcalf
- 23:34Speaker 4: and Jonathan Jones with Lockett and then deal with Jackson
- 23:38Speaker 4: Smith and Jigba, you know with the rest quote unquote.
- 23:41Speaker 4: You know, obviously it starts with Marcus Jones, but the
- 23:44Speaker 4: safeties are involved, and you might have more corners involved
- 23:47Speaker 4: in this game because they do have three receivers, whereas
- 23:51Speaker 4: Cincinnati only had a half of one. Yeah, you know,
- 23:53Speaker 4: I think they had a little bit of chase and
- 23:55Speaker 4: that was it. So you are going to probably have
- 23:58Speaker 4: to do things a little bit differently in the second
- 24:01Speaker 4: and I'll be curious to see if they stick with
- 24:03Speaker 4: you know, the sort of Jalen Hawkins back and because
- 24:07Speaker 4: it was kind of GTFB, you know, they made sure
- 24:09Speaker 4: everything stayed in front of them, and then they would
- 24:12Speaker 4: really sound because they were swarming to the ball and tackling.
- 24:15Speaker 2: They were their first step was.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, just on the surface, I think it
- 24:19Speaker 4: makes sense Gonzales' size matches up with Metcalf. They don't
- 24:23Speaker 4: throw the ball to Metcalf a whole lot. I think
- 24:24Speaker 4: you only had like sixty five catches last year. He's
- 24:27Speaker 4: not a volume guy, so you know this, this could
- 24:32Speaker 4: be one of those games. If you can sort of
- 24:34Speaker 4: mitigate Lockett, then I think you'd be all right with
- 24:37Speaker 4: the passing game, okay, and make sure that Metcalf doesn't
- 24:42Speaker 4: hit you for big plays.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Sean mentioned the score and predictions. I just I can't believe.
- 24:47Speaker 2: We did that Madden sim before last game and it
- 24:52Speaker 2: predicted the score seventeen to ten, Patriots winning.
- 24:55Speaker 4: So it was wrong.
- 24:56Speaker 8: I mean, we talked about this yesterday.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Yeah, but they're gonna they did another one. And I
- 25:00Speaker 2: told him I don't want to know what the score is.
- 25:02Speaker 2: I want to be surprised, so I don't know how
- 25:05Speaker 2: it came out.
- 25:05Speaker 4: I turned into a child. I think I don't want
- 25:08Speaker 4: to know. I think it don't tell me.
- 25:09Speaker 2: I think it's fun.
- 25:10Speaker 8: It is fun.
- 25:11Speaker 4: That's why I don't understand why you don't want to know.
- 25:12Speaker 2: So this could be a thing. I hope that this
- 25:15Speaker 2: Madden thing is close every week.
- 25:18Speaker 4: So you don't want it. You don't want to know,
- 25:19Speaker 4: because if it's.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Right the other way, and I don't want it to
- 25:23Speaker 2: cloud my judgment or spoil my day.
- 25:26Speaker 8: What am I doing?
- 25:27Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 25:28Speaker 8: Even Matt's rolling his eyes.
- 25:30Speaker 2: That's a big Madden guy.
- 25:31Speaker 6: I'll tell you all fair what the score was, Paul.
- 25:35Speaker 4: He knows enough to know that someone will have to
- 25:37Speaker 4: tell me.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Okay, all right. I hope that they're not, like, you know,
- 25:43Speaker 2: putting their thumb on the scale either. I hope they
- 25:45Speaker 2: just let it play out.
- 25:47Speaker 7: I can honestly say they are not. They pop that
- 25:49Speaker 7: thing on all Madden and sit back and let the
- 25:51Speaker 7: computer do.
- 25:51Speaker 2: It good, good, good, because I want it to be
- 25:55Speaker 2: a true so true sim.
- 25:57Speaker 4: All right, if we're going to really talk about this,
- 26:00Speaker 4: like it has some relevance, So I don't, I don't.
- 26:03Speaker 4: I don't play Madden. I don't pretend to know Madden.
- 26:08Speaker 4: So you put it in a sim? Did it play
- 26:10Speaker 4: the personnel that was available?
- 26:12Speaker 7: So they they played this week's game with the roster
- 26:15Speaker 7: that played in the Bengals game?
- 26:17Speaker 2: No?
- 26:18Speaker 8: Like, so like, that's what I'm saying.
- 26:19Speaker 4: So they played Cincinnati with all the guys that they
- 26:22Speaker 4: didn't have.
- 26:23Speaker 7: I have to I'm talking about the Seahawks game that
- 26:27Speaker 7: they just simmed yesterday for next week, they used the
- 26:30Speaker 7: lineup of that played everybody that was actually.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Cincinnati was a Cincinnati game taken to account, like.
- 26:37Speaker 8: T Higgins in or out?
- 26:39Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't know about that.
- 26:40Speaker 4: Yeah, you know what I mean, Chase in or out
- 26:42Speaker 4: or like Walker? Right, is even this game Kenneth Walker
- 26:46Speaker 4: in or out?
- 26:47Speaker 9: Now?
- 26:47Speaker 4: I think Kenneth Walker is going to be in. Yeah,
- 26:50Speaker 4: I don't know that for sure.
- 26:51Speaker 8: I'd be curious.
- 26:52Speaker 4: Today's a day that obviously we get some injury updates
- 26:55Speaker 4: and whatnot. But yeah, I to me, I find it
- 26:59Speaker 4: strange that the sim would have had the Patriots beating
- 27:01Speaker 4: a full strength Cincinnati because, like I would think, a
- 27:04Speaker 4: sim doesn't take into account any of the intangibles unless
- 27:10Speaker 4: I don't, Like I said, I don't.
- 27:11Speaker 7: Know, Madden like an effort to find the answer.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Cincinnati is not going to like as as an example,
- 27:18Speaker 4: ESPN does that Football Power Index thing, yep, right, Well,
- 27:23Speaker 4: the Bengals had like a sixty something percent chance to win.
- 27:26Speaker 4: I think it was sixty eight percent chance. It was
- 27:27Speaker 4: a very high percent. They were the biggest spread of
- 27:29Speaker 4: the week. That's not taken into account any intangibles. It's
- 27:34Speaker 4: it's just going strictly off of personnel right, and Madals
- 27:40Speaker 4: had had the Bengals having an overwhelming chance to win.
- 27:44Speaker 4: So I'm just curious if the sim for Madden is
- 27:48Speaker 4: the same or if they are able they have the
- 27:50Speaker 4: ability to take those guys out that weren't expected to play.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Because I imagine it takes in to count all their
- 27:57Speaker 2: Madden ratings and all that stuff.
- 28:00Speaker 8: That's what I'm saying.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. Pat Naguam writes in he says,
- 28:05Speaker 2: I wanted to know how important you rank getting pressure
- 28:08Speaker 2: on Gino Smith this Sunday and not letting him get
- 28:11Speaker 2: into rhythm. Even if the secondary plays great. This is
- 28:14Speaker 2: a great group with Metcalf, Lockett and Smith Smith the jigbu.
- 28:19Speaker 2: I think they're going to make plays regardless of how
- 28:23Speaker 2: good the coverage is. So pressuring Gino is paramount to
- 28:26Speaker 2: me and should be one of the keys to the game.
- 28:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I would agree. And their offensive lines and shambles already.
- 28:34Speaker 4: Seattle's they're down three tackles, and I think that's an
- 28:39Speaker 4: area that they can exploit a little bit. But I
- 28:41Speaker 4: would put that behind stopping the run because that's what
- 28:43Speaker 4: Seattle wants to do and If Seattle's able to get
- 28:46Speaker 4: Kenneth Walker going and they can throw when they want
- 28:48Speaker 4: to instead of when they have to, then obviously that
- 28:51Speaker 4: makes the job easier protecting him. But Pat's right, Cousin, Patty,
- 28:55Speaker 4: I think you need to get some heat because you
- 28:57Speaker 4: can't just cover. You can't just cover against quality receivers.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Yep, Trevor in Revere, right, Sin, do you know how
- 29:06Speaker 2: the Seahawks run defense compared to the Bengals. I'm trying
- 29:09Speaker 2: to gauge if the same offensive performance by the Patriots
- 29:12Speaker 2: against the Seahawks would produce similar results. Obviously we'd hope
- 29:17Speaker 2: for a bit more in the passing game, but I
- 29:19Speaker 2: imagine the coaching staff would love to play conservative and
- 29:22Speaker 2: focus on the run if the game allows it.
- 29:25Speaker 4: Yeah. Last year, like I said, Seattle was bad against
- 29:28Speaker 4: the run. In the first game, they were pretty good. Yeah,
- 29:31Speaker 4: So I don't know if this is a sign of
- 29:33Speaker 4: improvement or if they got a good opponent or what,
- 29:37Speaker 4: but I would say they're gonna need a lot more
- 29:40Speaker 4: than what they got. Yeah, you know, like a repeat
- 29:43Speaker 4: of what they did against Cincinnati isn't gonna be good
- 29:45Speaker 4: enough to win most games.
- 29:46Speaker 8: That's and I know that I'm in the minority.
- 29:48Speaker 4: I guess, you know, well, a lot of a lot
- 29:51Speaker 4: of our colleagues, a lot of our colleagues are like,
- 29:53Speaker 4: you know that they can if they play that same game,
- 29:56Speaker 4: you know, all year, they're gonna be in the playoff hunt.
- 29:58Speaker 4: I think if they play that same game all year,
- 30:00Speaker 4: they're gonna be hard pressed to win final games.
- 30:02Speaker 2: But if they give up ten points every week, But
- 30:05Speaker 2: that's not I know, but I know.
- 30:06Speaker 4: The same I'm talking about if if you play the
- 30:09Speaker 4: same way, like you can play really good defense and
- 30:12Speaker 4: still give up twenty four points. Yeah, yeah, like the
- 30:16Speaker 4: guy doesn't fumble going into the end zone and the
- 30:18Speaker 4: game is totally different. It's true, right, this is what
- 30:21Speaker 4: I'm saying. And that's not like I know, and the
- 30:25Speaker 4: other team. You can't expect the other team to play
- 30:29Speaker 4: that badly, right, Like I know that the Patriots had
- 30:32Speaker 4: a lot to do with Cincinnati's offense not looking good
- 30:35Speaker 4: because the Patriots defense was outstanding.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Yeah, but there was some turmoil.
- 30:39Speaker 4: But there are good offenses that are gonna overcome your
- 30:42Speaker 4: good defense at times. Cincinnati really didn't do that.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Trevor also says, a handsome one I'd like Matt little
- 30:51Speaker 2: postgame suggestion. I'd like Matt on the postgame show so far,
- 30:57Speaker 2: but someone has to tell him that the Good, the
- 30:59Speaker 2: Bad and the Injured isn't a race against the clock.
- 31:02Speaker 4: So I've had to talk with the Matt a little
- 31:05Speaker 4: bit twice. Now we do not, Yeah, the ever repeat
- 31:09Speaker 4: after the preseason game. And then I said it again
- 31:13Speaker 4: during the show, The Good and the Bad and the
- 31:15Speaker 4: Injured is only interrupted by the player interview, right, Mike.
- 31:21Speaker 4: When after a win, when we get a call and
- 31:24Speaker 4: unfortunately we had some cell issues this week with Kyle Dugger.
- 31:28Speaker 4: But after a win, we get a call from a player,
- 31:31Speaker 4: and sometimes that comes in the middle of Good, Bad
- 31:33Speaker 4: and the Injured. We stop, obviously whatever we're doing when
- 31:36Speaker 4: the player is on the line and we talk to him.
- 31:38Speaker 4: Otherwise we do not take calls and we do not
- 31:40Speaker 4: do emails during Good and the Bad and the Injured. Yeah,
- 31:44Speaker 4: we never got to the We never really got to anything.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Let me ask a question on the player thing. For
- 31:49Speaker 2: home games, are you guys on soon enough? Where if
- 31:53Speaker 2: the guy just walked off the field in his pads,
- 31:55Speaker 2: he could be a guest in the studio.
- 31:57Speaker 4: We're on immediately after the game. Should we try to
- 32:01Speaker 4: do that, we would be in here before the players
- 32:03Speaker 4: are off the field. I would think. I don't know.
- 32:06Speaker 2: I mean, I know they know my answer. They go
- 32:08Speaker 2: off the far end and we're over here.
- 32:10Speaker 4: But yeah, that's true, but I don't know.
- 32:12Speaker 2: That would be cool, right, just come right off the field,
- 32:14Speaker 2: sit here in your pads, you know.
- 32:17Speaker 13: I like it.
- 32:18Speaker 4: Yeah, it'd be a good visual.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Yeah, put on Deuce is here, I'm here and he
- 32:25Speaker 2: just came from here.
- 32:26Speaker 4: That would mean I could take the segment off. I mean,
- 32:28Speaker 4: that's a time from the locker room in he goes
- 32:33Speaker 4: into the locker room and sad because it's all his jingle.
- 32:38Speaker 13: This is I get.
- 32:41Speaker 4: Back all right?
- 32:43Speaker 2: Was that an AI matter or that that's AI Okay?
- 32:46Speaker 2: I love it. Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:47Speaker 14: It was a bustling day down there in the locker room.
- 32:51Speaker 14: It seems almost different than last week, though. It seems
- 32:53Speaker 14: like there's just so much more going on. I feel
- 32:56Speaker 14: like a little bit of throwback my first year twenty nineteen,
- 32:58Speaker 14: when it was different scrums going on at the same time,
- 33:02Speaker 14: people doing one on ones. It was, you know, the
- 33:04Speaker 14: last couple of years, it's always been one person's talking
- 33:07Speaker 14: everyone from right to that person, no real side conversations
- 33:11Speaker 14: going on, and now.
- 33:12Speaker 5: It's just is a.
- 33:14Speaker 14: Bunch of activity going on everywhere because there's just some
- 33:16Speaker 14: more guys in the locker room, I think, so, I
- 33:18Speaker 14: mean everybody getting ready for practice, but I mean Laydon Robinson,
- 33:21Speaker 14: he's like he's like the mayor over there.
- 33:23Speaker 5: I mean, everybody wants to talk to Laydon Robinson.
- 33:25Speaker 14: I know, I don't know if that's a great thing
- 33:26Speaker 14: as a rookie, where just person after person after person
- 33:29Speaker 14: coming up to him before the locker room. But but yeah, no,
- 33:32Speaker 14: pretty good, pretty good mood, pretty good mood. It's say,
- 33:34Speaker 14: it felt like a Wednesday, ready to you know, put
- 33:37Speaker 14: the Bengals win behind them and move on to the Seahawks.
- 33:41Speaker 2: What did you talk to?
- 33:42Speaker 14: I talked to Joe. I talked to Brendan Schooler a
- 33:44Speaker 14: little bit. I was asking him about as if he
- 33:47Speaker 14: got any you know, award for breaking twenty two miles
- 33:49Speaker 14: an hour since everyone was talking about that. But no,
- 33:51Speaker 14: just to her from Pop Douglas, Christian Gonzalez another one.
- 33:55Speaker 14: He talks so, like I said, there's just so much
- 33:57Speaker 14: going on here you kind of have to pick your spots.
- 33:59Speaker 5: So but yeah, everybody.
- 34:02Speaker 14: Everybody seems pretty focused on on the Seahawks here as
- 34:04Speaker 14: we get into Wednesday.
- 34:05Speaker 2: So, and were you able to catch Droid Mayo as
- 34:07Speaker 2: well as Paul.
- 34:09Speaker 5: I did.
- 34:09Speaker 14: I caught him with with Paul was right next to him,
- 34:11Speaker 14: right next to Uh fine, I mean, I mean, I
- 34:16Speaker 14: don't know.
- 34:16Speaker 5: There wasn't a lot.
- 34:17Speaker 14: I don't I mean, you know, not a lot. Not
- 34:19Speaker 14: a lot to take away, I mean a lot. Glad
- 34:21Speaker 14: to see that we turned the page. It didn't feel
- 34:24Speaker 14: like we were still, you know, flexing about about the win.
- 34:27Speaker 14: And I'd expect that with him, but no, you know,
- 34:31Speaker 14: nice message about nine to eleven and all that stuff.
- 34:32Speaker 5: I thought it was interesting you brought up quick side store.
- 34:35Speaker 14: I think I've told it, like you mentioned, A couple
- 34:36Speaker 14: of flights came out of Boston, and when I moved
- 34:39Speaker 14: to California in August of nineteen ninety nine, I took
- 34:43Speaker 14: flight one seventy five, and so I still have the
- 34:46Speaker 14: ticket stub from taking that exact flight that you know,
- 34:49Speaker 14: ended up flying into one of the World Trade centers.
- 34:51Speaker 5: So I don't know.
- 34:52Speaker 14: I always kept that as like a you know, a
- 34:53Speaker 14: little memento and reminder of you know, just that terrible.
- 34:57Speaker 4: But the one comment, and I agree with Mike that I
- 35:00Speaker 4: and you know, we are we talked about the press
- 35:02Speaker 4: conferences and stuff. I didn't think there was a ton,
- 35:05Speaker 4: you know, I didn't think there was a ton there.
- 35:07Speaker 15: I don't.
- 35:07Speaker 4: I don't think my shows will be spending segments talking
- 35:10Speaker 4: about Gerrod today like they have at times in the summer.
- 35:14Speaker 4: My one thing that I mentioned to Fred Mike, and
- 35:18Speaker 4: I'll be curious to see if you feel the same way. Like,
- 35:21Speaker 4: and he's talking about like reminder Stevenson, It's like, you know,
- 35:24Speaker 4: you guys don't know, you know, he's always telling us
- 35:27Speaker 4: what we think of guys. You know, like you guys
- 35:30Speaker 4: don't you know he might not get the pub that
- 35:31Speaker 4: that other guys get. And then Kenneth Walker comes up
- 35:34Speaker 4: and it's like, you know, I don't know what his
- 35:35Speaker 4: matting radny is, but like why are you, like, you know,
- 35:39Speaker 4: always telling us what we.
- 35:40Speaker 14: Think, feeding the outside perspective on the player a little bit, right, Yeah,
- 35:43Speaker 14: And I think the outside perspective, certainly on Stevenson in
- 35:47Speaker 14: this area is he's.
- 35:48Speaker 4: A really good back. He's just got to stay he's
- 35:50Speaker 4: got to stay healthy. That's it, you know, like two
- 35:53Speaker 4: years ago he had like eleven hundred yards and sixty
- 35:56Speaker 4: seven catches. Yeah, you know, like why like no one
- 35:59Speaker 4: in New England thinks that he's a stiff?
- 36:02Speaker 14: No, I add on too, where was Girod started to
- 36:04Speaker 14: walk down like one of his goals is you know
- 36:06Speaker 14: what I'm not I'm not going to tell you. So
- 36:09Speaker 14: I think that showed a little bit of progress from Girraw,
- 36:11Speaker 14: but still he has I think he still has an
- 36:13Speaker 14: inclination to share things that you don't have to share,
- 36:17Speaker 14: you don't even have feeling.
- 36:18Speaker 4: And if someone said, Girod, what were some of the
- 36:20Speaker 4: goals that ro Roder Stevenson had right after that, that
- 36:22Speaker 4: he probably would.
- 36:23Speaker 8: Have just said it.
- 36:23Speaker 6: Well, I was right.
- 36:25Speaker 5: Well I thought they were gonna go right into Remondra
- 36:27Speaker 5: in the locker room and be like, what are your
- 36:28Speaker 5: goals you know in life in the football season generally.
- 36:31Speaker 4: So that that would be called being a reporter.
- 36:34Speaker 5: I'd see.
- 36:34Speaker 14: I didn't go to J school, but I don't know
- 36:36Speaker 14: good of him questions and talking to people, but uh yeah,
- 36:40Speaker 14: it was it was you know, I thought Persette was
- 36:42Speaker 14: was you know fine too. You know, I just I
- 36:44Speaker 14: like that they're talking about throwing the ball more. I
- 36:46Speaker 14: think that that you.
- 36:47Speaker 4: Know, it's just I think they know that that's it
- 36:50Speaker 4: was kind of a rarity.
- 36:51Speaker 14: I've seen my word pop up a lot this week,
- 36:53Speaker 14: my sustainability pop up. Saw Tommy Kerrn, you know, doing
- 36:58Speaker 14: a little of that. I wrote in the mailbag that was,
- 37:00Speaker 14: you know, one of my title. I mean, I think
- 37:01Speaker 14: that's it's obvious what this team needs to do.
- 37:04Speaker 4: It was a nice win.
- 37:04Speaker 14: You threaded the needle, you didn't turn the ball over.
- 37:07Speaker 14: You you know, you're able to run the ball and
- 37:08Speaker 14: run out the clock. That's awesome. We all know that
- 37:11Speaker 14: that's a really hard way to live and that they're
- 37:13Speaker 14: going to have to start producing explosive plays to offset
- 37:16Speaker 14: the mistakes that are just going to happen. That's that's
- 37:19Speaker 14: the NFL. You know, that's they're going to be turnovers.
- 37:21Speaker 14: There's going to be a dumb penalty here there. I mean,
- 37:23Speaker 14: as long as they're not a litany of them that
- 37:25Speaker 14: you can't overcome, but they have to develop that explosive
- 37:29Speaker 14: element to their offense for sure.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Let's see, we'll go to the TPX hotline eight five
- 37:34Speaker 2: to five pats five hundred Eldred's is on the line
- 37:37Speaker 2: and he says he's a Madden guy. What's up? Aldred, Aldred, Aldred, Yes, yes, yes, okay,
- 37:50Speaker 2: p yes, sir.
- 37:51Speaker 15: They update the roster and if your guys got injury,
- 37:55Speaker 15: they don't, like you can't put him in the line up,
- 37:57Speaker 15: even do a simulation.
- 37:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:59Speaker 4: No, I just was wondering what we did when we
- 38:03Speaker 4: did the simulation. I would like the Patriots. You know,
- 38:05Speaker 4: Fred was telling us the Patriots had a seventeen to
- 38:08Speaker 4: ten win in the sem Like, was that including t
- 38:11Speaker 4: Higgins or do we take him out? Is that including Chase?
- 38:14Speaker 7: According to Matisse, Bengals were at full strength. Chase played,
- 38:18Speaker 7: but we mentioned he had contract disputes. Higgins did not
- 38:21Speaker 7: catch up a Higgins did not catch a pass.
- 38:23Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I think later in the week.
- 38:26Speaker 8: It is hard.
- 38:28Speaker 15: Hey, My question is, like them happy for the win
- 38:33Speaker 15: and everything, but do you think they don't I know
- 38:36Speaker 15: they can't do too much now, but those tackles they got,
- 38:39Speaker 15: do you think they're trying to work them in, especially.
- 38:42Speaker 16: The big guys.
- 38:45Speaker 2: One off waivers.
- 38:47Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I would doubt it.
- 38:50Speaker 8: But we'll see, you know, we'll see.
- 38:53Speaker 4: You know, these guys are going to be here for
- 38:54Speaker 4: at least two more weeks and we'll see if they
- 38:57Speaker 4: progress enough to earn playing time. But I find that
- 39:00Speaker 4: to be a short odds on you.
- 39:04Speaker 5: We're talking about the defensive guy they signed up.
- 39:05Speaker 2: The tackle's huge, Yeah, yeah, yeah, No, I don't. I
- 39:14Speaker 2: don't think you're gonna see him. If you do, it's
- 39:15Speaker 2: because everything else isn't working, so let's or or he
- 39:19Speaker 2: just shows enough in practice. But I don't. I don't
- 39:22Speaker 2: see that happening.
- 39:23Speaker 14: No, I mean, I think it's more about you see
- 39:27Speaker 14: what positions they're concerned about. I mean, they brought in
- 39:29Speaker 14: a bunch of outside offensive linemen. They just signed this kid.
- 39:33Speaker 14: I'm not sure if it's I don't think it's Jacqueline,
- 39:35Speaker 14: is it Jake Quellen?
- 39:35Speaker 4: J Quin?
- 39:36Speaker 14: Yeah, Jay Quellen, which reminds me, of course of Jack
- 39:40Speaker 14: the Key and Peel Sketch, Jake Qulin, Jake Coulin Roy.
- 39:46Speaker 14: But you know, they they signed some defensive lineman, they
- 39:49Speaker 14: signed some offensive lineman. I think that those are positions
- 39:52Speaker 14: we talked about throughout camp, that there's some uncertainty there,
- 39:54Speaker 14: there's maybe a lack of proven depth, and I think
- 39:57Speaker 14: it's just good due diligence to continue to focus on
- 40:00Speaker 14: those players as they you know, moving to this how
- 40:04Speaker 14: to find somebody. They brought in the guard. They let
- 40:06Speaker 14: the guard go to sign the defensive tackle. And you know,
- 40:09Speaker 14: if you do this all season long, maybe maybe you
- 40:10Speaker 14: find a gem you find.
- 40:11Speaker 5: We've seen it happen. It's not very common, but you've
- 40:14Speaker 5: seen it a good.
- 40:15Speaker 4: Way to find depth at the very least. Yep, I
- 40:17Speaker 4: agree with you, Mike.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Will writes in he said the Patriots win on Sunday
- 40:22Speaker 2: was one of the more enjoyable and positive moments of
- 40:25Speaker 2: the last few years. I was so happy. I know
- 40:28Speaker 2: we gave Mayo a hard time for all the corporate speak,
- 40:31Speaker 2: which reminded me more of my nonprofit work than football.
- 40:35Speaker 2: But it's nice to have a coach that I feel
- 40:37Speaker 2: I can relate more to. Maybe that is corny, I
- 40:40Speaker 2: don't know, so.
- 40:41Speaker 4: He's still doing a little of that.
- 40:42Speaker 8: By the way, what do you throw out the imposter syndrome.
- 40:45Speaker 2: To the half?
- 40:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I still got a little of that going.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Also shout out to Evan for a fr I really
- 40:50Speaker 2: enjoy reading it on Mondays.
- 40:54Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 40:54Speaker 4: I do wonder, you know, because if this was last
- 41:01Speaker 4: year's team and they won that way with Belichick. People
- 41:07Speaker 4: would have called it a fake win, Like my shows
- 41:10Speaker 4: would have said, that's a fake win. But I wonder
- 41:13Speaker 4: how much of it with the newness of Mayo and
- 41:17Speaker 4: he is really I love the way he's like he's
- 41:19Speaker 4: maybe he's more relatable, that's changing.
- 41:22Speaker 2: I disagree with that. I think Belichick would have got
- 41:24Speaker 2: credit because, oh, he did it with Jacoby Brissett and
- 41:27Speaker 2: this is how he had to do it. And I'm
- 41:28Speaker 2: just telling you that a.
- 41:30Speaker 4: Lot of people would have made fun of it, like
- 41:32Speaker 4: that's what he didn't just just adjust pay No, I know,
- 41:37Speaker 4: but you had to. You would have made fun of
- 41:39Speaker 4: him and used Mike's sustainability question.
- 41:42Speaker 2: I'm just saying, if Belichick was had to win a
- 41:45Speaker 2: game with Jacoby Brissett, that's what you would expect from Belichick.
- 41:49Speaker 4: But I'm just saying, I said, last year's team wins
- 41:52Speaker 4: that same game, okay, and everybody would have said that's
- 41:57Speaker 4: not sustainable. This is how he wants to win every
- 42:00Speaker 4: game seventeen thirty. I would have said it, right. Yeah,
- 42:02Speaker 4: I'm not gonna I'm not calling anybody else.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Out with Mac Jones as the quarterback.
- 42:06Speaker 8: I don't care who the quarterback.
- 42:08Speaker 4: Once to play. No, he played exactly that game. He
- 42:11Speaker 4: played exactly the way he tried to play the last
- 42:13Speaker 4: three years with Mac Jones.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Here, I am defending Bill Belichick again. No, I think
- 42:18Speaker 2: that you know.
- 42:21Speaker 6: No, No, Fred, you're.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Young, and I think Bill Belichick is known for adjusting
- 42:25Speaker 2: depending on the situation and adapting to not just the opponent.
- 42:29Speaker 8: But what's going on with that.
- 42:32Speaker 4: Yeah, he wasn't known for that the three years that
- 42:33Speaker 4: Mac Jones was his quarterback.
- 42:35Speaker 2: I know, but maybe that And if Bill was here,
- 42:38Speaker 2: he probably and being honest, he'd probably tell you that's
- 42:41Speaker 2: that's all we could do.
- 42:43Speaker 14: I just think it's it's Bill Belichick had an established championship,
- 42:46Speaker 14: you know, pedigree, and you're held to that standard. The
- 42:49Speaker 14: standard that Mayo was being held to was that these
- 42:51Speaker 14: guys might not win a game this year. This might
- 42:53Speaker 14: be the worst team in the league. And that's why
- 42:55Speaker 14: you get credit for it. When you show that you
- 42:57Speaker 14: can even just put everybody's pulling in the same direction
- 43:00Speaker 14: and you're not killing yourself. It looks like a well
- 43:01Speaker 14: coached team goes to Mayo, who hasn't done anything. It's
- 43:04Speaker 14: it's a feather in his cap. If it's Belichick, It's like, well,
- 43:07Speaker 14: where's the four hundred and five hundred yards our offense?
- 43:09Speaker 5: Bill, Like, we can't do it.
- 43:10Speaker 4: I totally agree. That's exactly how I felt like this,
- 43:13Speaker 4: that it would have been perceived so differently. And I'm
- 43:16Speaker 4: not saying it's wrong. I'm just saying it would have
- 43:18Speaker 4: been perceived differently.
- 43:18Speaker 5: And it's just the bottom line is, whether it was
- 43:20Speaker 5: Bill's team or Gerrod's team, they have.
- 43:22Speaker 4: To if anybody really say how bad Cincinnati was Sunday
- 43:27Speaker 4: last year.
- 43:28Speaker 8: That's all you If it was if Bill was here,
- 43:30Speaker 8: that's all you.
- 43:31Speaker 4: Would have heard was they didn't even want to be there.
- 43:34Speaker 4: Higgins didn't play, Chase was a shell of himself. The
- 43:37Speaker 4: defense couldn't stop the same play. Oh do we hear
- 43:40Speaker 4: that maybe sometime maybe in Buffalo in the win game?
- 43:43Speaker 4: How bad is Sean McDermot He couldn't stop the same play, Like, yeah,
- 43:47Speaker 4: that's what people would have said. Yeah, but I think
- 43:49Speaker 4: you're absolutely right. It should be looked at differently because
- 43:53Speaker 4: we're not holding Mayo to the Belichick standard of you
- 43:56Speaker 4: you don't know what it wins away from the all
- 43:58Speaker 4: time winning his coach.
- 43:59Speaker 14: I mean, if it had like Carolina's game did right,
- 44:02Speaker 14: like you know, like we killing him right, and that's
- 44:05Speaker 14: you don't know what to expect. But I will say
- 44:07Speaker 14: one thing I have seen that I didn't really catch
- 44:08Speaker 14: during the game was like a super cut of all
- 44:10Speaker 14: the Joe Burrow O Wrisk stuff the whole game, like
- 44:14Speaker 14: on the bench. I didn't even really, I didn't really
- 44:15Speaker 14: I didn't clock it during the game. But I mean
- 44:17Speaker 14: he's he's clearly still working through stuff. And I mean again,
- 44:20Speaker 14: it's funny because we spent the whole week talking like, well,
- 44:23Speaker 14: he's finally healthy, it still starts like, I mean, he's
- 44:25Speaker 14: banged up again.
- 44:26Speaker 8: Fred had a good one.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Yeah, well Andrew.
- 44:29Speaker 2: I just wonder for other reasons, if he'll be what
- 44:33Speaker 2: Andrew Luck was for the Colts, he'll be for the Bengals.
- 44:36Speaker 2: You know, this elite talent that just gets wasted.
- 44:39Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I mean I hope not.
- 44:41Speaker 14: I I mean Andrew Luck got beat up, right, I mean,
- 44:43Speaker 14: he just did injuries and.
- 44:45Speaker 4: And he had the risk surgery and he clearly didn't
- 44:47Speaker 4: trust his ability to throw the ball outside the numbers.
- 44:50Speaker 4: Everyn't talked about it a lot yesterday, And I think
- 44:54Speaker 4: the proof is in the pudding. He didn't really try
- 44:56Speaker 4: to throw the ball downfield or outside very often.
- 45:00Speaker 2: No Micah from South Dakota. After looking at how the
- 45:04Speaker 2: other rookie quarterbacks did on Sunday and how our offensive
- 45:07Speaker 2: line pass blocked, I'm glad Drake may is starting the
- 45:11Speaker 2: season on the bench. The so called ready rookie quarterbacks
- 45:16Speaker 2: played pretty bad. Caleb Williams looked like twenty twenty Cam Newton,
- 45:19Speaker 2: throwing for less than one hundred yards. I also think
- 45:22Speaker 2: that Jacoby moving forward will be better than he was
- 45:26Speaker 2: on Sunday in terms of throwing the ball down the field.
- 45:28Speaker 2: Now on to Seattle, two to zero, here we come.
- 45:32Speaker 14: I think the energy is gonna be pretty good this weekend.
- 45:34Speaker 14: I mean, I just that that's one bonus of winning
- 45:36Speaker 14: the first game on the road, and then you know,
- 45:38Speaker 14: coming in here. I mean it's been a tough go.
- 45:40Speaker 14: I mean, the last time this team played on this field,
- 45:42Speaker 14: they lost to the Jets. I mean, you know, for
- 45:43Speaker 14: the first time I went like eighteen games. So I'm
- 45:46Speaker 14: excited for the atmosphere. I just I think Patriot fans
- 45:48Speaker 14: are gonna come supposed to be a beautiful day. You know,
- 45:51Speaker 14: it's a team you don't really get to see a lot, so.
- 45:53Speaker 2: I wonder and I don't know this, so I'm not
- 45:56Speaker 2: like playing coy. If there will be any difference in
- 45:59Speaker 2: how the opening introductions are done with you know, with
- 46:03Speaker 2: the new regime, if.
- 46:04Speaker 14: I'm sure there will be, I just don't know if
- 46:05Speaker 14: it'll be the same as preseason or if they'll.
- 46:07Speaker 2: I'm sure whatever that if they are going to do changes,
- 46:10Speaker 2: they would not unveil it in preseason.
- 46:12Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah, well we won't hear because we're in the
- 46:15Speaker 14: silent press spots.
- 46:16Speaker 5: I have no idea what's going on. I don't even
- 46:17Speaker 5: know there's a giant screen up there.
- 46:18Speaker 4: It's just like they could do something like entirely different
- 46:22Speaker 4: and you could tell me that's exactly what they've done
- 46:24Speaker 4: every game, and I would have no idea.
- 46:25Speaker 8: I don't know how they come out.
- 46:26Speaker 4: It's like even the flyover you just like, I know
- 46:28Speaker 4: they used to play crazy Train, and I guess we're
- 46:30Speaker 4: not doing that.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Anymore, right, Oh, I didn't know, there you go. I
- 46:32Speaker 2: didn't know that.
- 46:33Speaker 4: Well, I thought that's what they said in the preseason
- 46:35Speaker 4: games they weren't playing crazy Train.
- 46:36Speaker 5: Well, they had like what is that?
- 46:38Speaker 13: Is it?
- 46:38Speaker 5: Carmina Burana.
- 46:39Speaker 2: Yeah, they've always played that, you know, that one that
- 46:42Speaker 2: starts it out it goes into crazy. Yeah.
- 46:47Speaker 4: Oh, I was told that they weren't playing that in
- 46:49Speaker 4: the preseason, all right, so probably, but Mike and I
- 46:51Speaker 4: are in here. Yeah, so I didn't hear it. I mean,
- 46:54Speaker 4: I'm like, in the Bob's Discount for an Instant Studio.
- 46:56Speaker 14: They did like the Lil John mix of it. I
- 46:58Speaker 14: think in the preseason is like a let's go version
- 47:01Speaker 14: of that.
- 47:02Speaker 5: So I don't know if it' if that'll stick or.
- 47:04Speaker 4: If you know, I couldn't tell you what they normally do,
- 47:08Speaker 4: so I'm not going to be able to tell you
- 47:09Speaker 4: what they're doing now.
- 47:10Speaker 2: I hope they stick to being introduced as a team now,
- 47:14Speaker 2: be serious. I don't want to go to the individual intros.
- 47:18Speaker 2: I want to stay the teams still do that.
- 47:21Speaker 5: I don't know that's why.
- 47:24Speaker 2: Oh yeah, every guy came out, you know, Chase was
- 47:27Speaker 2: second to last, Burrow was last, you know.
- 47:30Speaker 14: To the alternate defense offense every week every like.
- 47:32Speaker 2: I don't know if they do, but I just think
- 47:35Speaker 2: they did the offense. You know, I think what you
- 47:37Speaker 2: do whoever is your best player, that's the side of
- 47:41Speaker 2: the ball that you introduce because you want to get
- 47:44Speaker 2: you want to get the fans, you know, riled up,
- 47:46Speaker 2: you know, you want to get them.
- 47:48Speaker 5: Which tie would you introduce for the Patriots right now?
- 47:52Speaker 8: Defense?
- 47:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess I do defense. But like, who's your
- 47:55Speaker 2: last player to come out? Who's the guy pep Pepper?
- 47:59Speaker 4: Yeah, Paul.
- 48:01Speaker 8: I just think he's like their emotional guy.
- 48:02Speaker 2: He's like their emotional But in terms of like star power,
- 48:05Speaker 2: it kind of underscores what's lacking.
- 48:08Speaker 5: That's where we got to stay as a team.
- 48:10Speaker 4: You don't have that superstar that you wait just off
- 48:12Speaker 4: the top of my head, and you guys have obviously
- 48:14Speaker 4: given this stuff a lot more thought than I ever have.
- 48:17Speaker 4: This is I'll tell you, I didn't even know that
- 48:19Speaker 4: we didn't do the same thing that everybody else does anymore.
- 48:21Speaker 4: Like I knew that was a thing in two thousand
- 48:23Speaker 4: and one, I didn't realize that we still did that.
- 48:25Speaker 2: And Everett, they don't have introductions when you were.
- 48:27Speaker 4: You run out high school, you run out.
- 48:29Speaker 5: It's like the loop that the cheerleaders make the knocks your.
- 48:32Speaker 4: Every once in a while, you get the little kids
- 48:34Speaker 4: like in Pop Wanted, they go out and they can't
- 48:36Speaker 4: break through the paper good time. So I love it.
- 48:40Speaker 5: I love it.
- 48:42Speaker 2: Josh is in Dallas on the TPX hotline, What's up, Josh.
- 48:46Speaker 17: Hey, guys, great to have football back and three shows
- 48:50Speaker 17: a week. Love it just as a fan. It was
- 48:52Speaker 17: a great game to watch on Sundays. First game, as
- 48:55Speaker 17: you guys just said in a couple of years that
- 48:57Speaker 17: I felt like I couldn't get up for my couch.
- 48:58Speaker 17: I just wanted to watch. And I was looking at
- 49:01Speaker 17: this week's plate of games, and I think we all
- 49:04Speaker 17: agree that the Patriots like thoroughly outplayed the Bengals. The
- 49:08Speaker 17: Bengals did not look ready to play. So when I
- 49:11Speaker 17: say this, please do not come at me, because I
- 49:13Speaker 17: don't think it's necessarily true, but could be a factor.
- 49:16Speaker 17: I didn't realize that the Bengals are playing the Chiefs
- 49:18Speaker 17: this week, and I just I hadn't heard anybody talk
- 49:21Speaker 17: about if there was maybe any consideration to thinking that
- 49:25Speaker 17: they could come in with a maybe more vanilla game
- 49:27Speaker 17: plan against the Patriots, just having on paper more talent
- 49:31Speaker 17: and then just kind of circling that Chiefs game week two,
- 49:35Speaker 17: since it's always competitive and they kind of need to
- 49:37Speaker 17: pull out all the stops. So again, I think the defense.
- 49:40Speaker 10: Played really well.
- 49:41Speaker 17: I love the way that Covington's fun the dial of
- 49:44Speaker 17: you guys had said, But I just wondered, from maybe
- 49:48Speaker 17: the All twenty two and those kind of things, if
- 49:50Speaker 17: there were some concepts that they shied away from saving
- 49:53Speaker 17: for next week and didn't expect the paths to come
- 49:55Speaker 17: out and en off like they did.
- 49:57Speaker 13: Thanks guys.
- 49:58Speaker 2: I mean that could be a little looking ahead. You know,
- 50:00Speaker 2: if it was the forty nine ers, there'd be more
- 50:02Speaker 2: vanilla because you know, you know, they're in their division,
- 50:06Speaker 2: but not showing the chief stuff. I don't know, what,
- 50:09Speaker 2: what did you just say? I'm thinking about the Seahawks.
- 50:13Speaker 2: I'm thinking about it.
- 50:14Speaker 4: I don't think it had anything to do with game
- 50:15Speaker 4: plan now, but you can make any make an argument
- 50:18Speaker 4: they got a big game next week and they're caught sleeping.
- 50:21Speaker 4: But that doesn't even hold water to me.
- 50:23Speaker 2: It's the opener exactly. It's your opening game. And with
- 50:26Speaker 2: the offense, the Seahawks and the forty nine Ers, they.
- 50:29Speaker 14: Were in survival mode with the offense, you know, without
- 50:31Speaker 14: Higgins in limited chase. I mean, they were just trying
- 50:33Speaker 14: to piece it together. I don't think they were that's
- 50:35Speaker 14: in a position to hide.
- 50:36Speaker 4: The only like excuse I'll allow for Cincinnati, if you
- 50:41Speaker 4: want to call it, is that the person the personnel
- 50:44Speaker 4: wasn't really available, right, you know that they that they're
- 50:47Speaker 4: built on off that was hurt. Yeah, I mean that
- 50:50Speaker 4: doesn't mean he played, but he played like crap. Like
- 50:53Speaker 4: and I like Joe Barrow. I think he's really really good.
- 50:56Speaker 4: Certainly he's one of my top five in the league.
- 51:00Speaker 4: But he I mean, you have to call it the
- 51:02Speaker 4: way it is, like the Patriots made him look bad
- 51:04Speaker 4: and he played like crap.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, he certainly didn't overcome the fact that he
- 51:08Speaker 2: didn't have But I like.
- 51:10Speaker 4: Win that game, right, and Brady, I've seen Josh Allen
- 51:13Speaker 4: win that game right, right, Like he couldn't do it
- 51:17Speaker 4: and he really didn't come close. Let's call it, like
- 51:19Speaker 4: I think Josh is right. Patriots controlled the game that
- 51:22Speaker 4: last three and out that they had.
- 51:24Speaker 2: That was John.
- 51:25Speaker 5: I was like it here it comes, like, here comes
- 51:27Speaker 5: the drive.
- 51:27Speaker 4: We're gonna have to make that like everything, not that
- 51:30Speaker 4: they would score, but that they would move fifty or
- 51:32Speaker 4: sixty yards and get in position to score. Teams always
- 51:35Speaker 4: do right, Like, yeah, I never just automatically. Teams always
- 51:39Speaker 4: make a run.
- 51:40Speaker 11: I know.
- 51:40Speaker 14: That's what was in my head, was like, we're having
- 51:42Speaker 14: to stop in the end zone. That's like how they're
- 51:44Speaker 14: going to have to win this game. It's gonna come
- 51:45Speaker 14: down to the last play. And then all of a sudden,
- 51:47Speaker 14: they're punting and then the three players just look so
- 51:49Speaker 14: disjoined and non can you know, It's just it almost
- 51:52Speaker 14: snowballed on the Bengals because I feel like the Patriots,
- 51:55Speaker 14: everyone's like they controlled the line of scrimmage. I felt
- 51:57Speaker 14: like they really controlled it the first quarter, you know,
- 51:59Speaker 14: those first three and out and then after that, like
- 52:01Speaker 14: you know, it kind of settled in. It was a
- 52:02Speaker 14: little more back and forth. A couple of key moments,
- 52:04Speaker 14: you know, the fourth down stop that you know swung
- 52:07Speaker 14: the result. But you know, I was I was surprised.
- 52:10Speaker 14: Credits to the Patriots defense. They had him in a
- 52:12Speaker 14: blunder by the end.
- 52:13Speaker 2: I guess to Cody in West Virginia yesterday, I saw
- 52:16Speaker 2: the CBS sideline reporter mentioned Drake May getting thirty percent
- 52:20Speaker 2: of the first team reps this week with Persett still starting,
- 52:24Speaker 2: Will that affect how he plays on game day?
- 52:28Speaker 5: I would I hadn't seen that. I didn't hear that.
- 52:31Speaker 2: How do we know he didn't get thirty percent last
- 52:32Speaker 2: week too?
- 52:33Speaker 13: You know?
- 52:33Speaker 2: I mean, what, what isn't that normal for like the
- 52:35Speaker 2: backup quarterback?
- 52:36Speaker 4: That's I think that's what the report was. During the game.
- 52:39Speaker 4: I would say I didn't know, like, but I didn't.
- 52:42Speaker 4: I didn't see that. I have no idea what normal
- 52:44Speaker 4: would be for the backup course, Yeah, I mean to me, Hi, yeah,
- 52:49Speaker 4: first team reps? Yeah, for the backup quarterback and the
- 52:51Speaker 4: other guy. I tell you right now, Drew Blitzoe got zero.
- 52:54Speaker 2: The other guy's getting seventy percent, you know.
- 52:57Speaker 4: Yeah, when when it was Brady and Bledsoe Bledsoe zero
- 53:00Speaker 4: percent of the first team reps? Well, because no, when
- 53:03Speaker 4: he came back and Bill made the comment about we're
- 53:06Speaker 4: going with Brady for the foreseeable future, that's what that was.
- 53:10Speaker 4: And how are you expecting to get the How are
- 53:13Speaker 4: you expecting to get your job back if you can't
- 53:15Speaker 4: get any reps? Yeah, I mean, if it's true, what were
- 53:18Speaker 4: you supposed to answer? Sorry, how do you expect to
- 53:20Speaker 4: get your job back?
- 53:21Speaker 8: If your next question?
- 53:23Speaker 4: I don't A famous exchange between Paul Perol and Drew bletsnow,
- 53:28Speaker 4: and so.
- 53:29Speaker 2: You asked that question, I don't know what the told you.
- 53:32Speaker 4: I didn't always just I didn't always just sit around
- 53:35Speaker 4: and let all this, let these other nubes do all
- 53:38Speaker 4: the work.
- 53:40Speaker 2: I don't know what the normal backup reps with first
- 53:42Speaker 2: teams are. I don't either, but I'm hoping that whatever
- 53:45Speaker 2: it is, may does get a little.
- 53:47Speaker 4: Bit more than I think I was just I think
- 53:50Speaker 4: that's greed not to just have him handling the scout team.
- 53:52Speaker 4: I think it's important that he's running the Patriots offense.
- 53:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't.
- 53:56Speaker 14: I don't want to spoil it, but so maybe we should,
- 53:59Speaker 14: maybe we should run up by before we actually it.
- 54:01Speaker 14: But but Evan did talk to Drake made today and
- 54:04Speaker 14: asked him about his week and what he did, and
- 54:05Speaker 14: got some really interesting stuff about just nothing specific like
- 54:09Speaker 14: rep breakdowns, but specifically what Drake did last week as
- 54:12Speaker 14: we went into the regular season. So Evan was pretty
- 54:15Speaker 14: excited about it. We might have to make sure it's
- 54:16Speaker 14: a COPA set it before we put it out, but
- 54:18Speaker 14: it was sounded like he got some good stuff from Drake.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Okay, David writes in He's from Madrid. I was shocked
- 54:25Speaker 2: he said in a good way about the few amount
- 54:28Speaker 2: of penalties the team had in week one, mainly after
- 54:31Speaker 2: that last preseason game. Do we think that's an anomaly
- 54:34Speaker 2: or are they actually disciplined? I mean, we'll see. It's
- 54:40Speaker 2: week one.
- 54:41Speaker 4: My guess is it was like right now, If I
- 54:43Speaker 4: have to guess between one of those two things, I
- 54:45Speaker 4: would say it's an anomaly based on every other day
- 54:48Speaker 4: that I've seen them play so far, counting practice.
- 54:52Speaker 5: I mean, is it I don't know.
- 54:54Speaker 14: I just that's always a question that I have universally,
- 54:57Speaker 14: is what you how much of training camp is a lot?
- 55:00Speaker 14: How much what you're seeing is true or not true?
- 55:02Speaker 15: You know?
- 55:03Speaker 5: And I have to say, like.
- 55:04Speaker 14: Mostly looking back, especially the last couple of years, having
- 55:07Speaker 14: keeping notes on the practices, there's a lot of truth.
- 55:11Speaker 14: There's a lot of truth in training camp camp I
- 55:13Speaker 14: think is pretty true. The preseason games can be lost.
- 55:16Speaker 4: Yeah, that's why I don't I don't really put a
- 55:18Speaker 4: whole lot of stock at all. I put no stock
- 55:20Speaker 4: really in preseason performance. I mean, look at look at
- 55:23Speaker 4: the young quarterbacks. Young quarterbacks, I mean the people gushing
- 55:27Speaker 4: gushing over bow knicks. He looked like he's never been
- 55:30Speaker 4: on the field before. That's not a slam on bow Knicks.
- 55:33Speaker 4: That's what these rookie quarterbacks should look like when they
- 55:36Speaker 4: play against good competition. You know what was mac Jones's Uh?
- 55:40Speaker 4: That was that the Jets Jones Jets Mac Jones's first
- 55:44Speaker 4: attempt in the NFL. He threw backwards, and so much
- 55:49Speaker 4: of what bon Nicks did look to as on the back,
- 55:52Speaker 4: like the back foot, like I think it's there. It's
- 55:54Speaker 4: it's not NFL open even close, you know, chucking it
- 55:58Speaker 4: off his back foot and guys are picking up off easily.
- 56:02Speaker 2: Uh. Todd and Garner writes in I'm curious to as
- 56:05Speaker 2: to how much passing you each field needs to be
- 56:08Speaker 2: added to the offensive game plan and the something in
- 56:12Speaker 2: the type. Do we need to stretch the field to
- 56:14Speaker 2: throw sidelines, to empty the box to help the run game?
- 56:17Speaker 2: Should we be using screens and quick hitters to lessen
- 56:20Speaker 2: the pass rush? Getting to Jacoby Love the show, looking
- 56:24Speaker 2: forward to a great game this weekend.
- 56:26Speaker 5: Blah blah blah, all of that. I mean, they need
- 56:29Speaker 5: it all.
- 56:30Speaker 4: Like the quick hitters. There was a there was a
- 56:31Speaker 4: good zone, there was a good blitz beeeder early in
- 56:33Speaker 4: the game. I think to Hooper, yep, I want to
- 56:35Speaker 4: say just really good stuff. That's why Brissette's in there.
- 56:39Speaker 4: Some of those plays like well, that's.
- 56:41Speaker 14: Like this is becoming the pattern though, is that every
- 56:44Speaker 14: time they like there's an all out blitz and Jacoby
- 56:45Speaker 14: is able to just dump it off to his hot read.
- 56:48Speaker 5: That's what we got them.
- 56:49Speaker 4: But that's like I am not willing to just blindly say, like, well,
- 56:54Speaker 4: Brissette wins the game and May wouldn't have. Like I
- 56:57Speaker 4: think if May was forced to run around and improvise
- 57:00Speaker 4: make plays, they might have been more explosive. I'm not
- 57:02Speaker 4: just blindly saying they wouldn't have scored sixteen points if
- 57:06Speaker 4: May played. Is now, who's saying that a lot of
- 57:09Speaker 4: people have used that That's why they made the right
- 57:12Speaker 4: decision in starting We're set. That's been I mean it
- 57:16Speaker 4: was constant during the game on Twitter, like Patriots Twitter
- 57:20Speaker 4: during the game had a lot of that.
- 57:22Speaker 14: I think the encouraging thing for me, though, is that
- 57:25Speaker 14: you've seen a lot of a lot of places, not
- 57:27Speaker 14: just Evan and Taylor and those guys, but but plays
- 57:31Speaker 14: are open, you know, the guys are open. There are
- 57:33Speaker 14: things like it's functional offense, it's not like nobody's open,
- 57:36Speaker 14: like there's no more to go. You know, I'd rather
- 57:38Speaker 14: have guys open and we're just not quite hitting them.
- 57:40Speaker 8: Depends on who you ask.
- 57:42Speaker 4: I mean, I've seen, you know, I know now Girod
- 57:44Speaker 4: said today that he felt like they had some some
- 57:47Speaker 4: guys open. Yeah, most of what I've seen. I mean,
- 57:50Speaker 4: maybe if May played, they would have scored thirty. Right,
- 57:52Speaker 4: Like again, I can play in Fantasy Land. If I
- 57:55Speaker 4: can't be proven wrong, I'll tell you what I know.
- 57:58Speaker 4: I mean, I just I just don't know a way
- 57:59Speaker 4: of knowing. I don't even need to jump to the
- 58:01Speaker 4: May comparison.
- 58:01Speaker 14: It's just after seeing uncoordinated offenses and guys who cannot
- 58:05Speaker 14: get away from coverage, it's you're seeing some of that,
- 58:08Speaker 14: you know, and and they're not connecting on it yet,
- 58:10Speaker 14: so they have to to actually, you know, make it productive.
- 58:12Speaker 14: But regardless of May, it's just all right. It seems
- 58:15Speaker 14: like there's an offense there. Guys are open, it's coordinated.
- 58:17Speaker 14: You know, they know where they're going, so that, you know,
- 58:19Speaker 14: I think that's a good sign. Again, though they got
- 58:21Speaker 14: to execute.
- 58:22Speaker 4: I agree, and I think that you know, Brissett missed
- 58:25Speaker 4: some throws too, that I don't think really got much attention.
- 58:28Speaker 4: I think a lot of the mistakes get covered up
- 58:31Speaker 4: when you win. Yeah, I think some of these things
- 58:34Speaker 4: would have been you know, illustrated a little bit.
- 58:36Speaker 2: If they had lost Borrow had come down the end
- 58:38Speaker 2: of the game and scored a touchdown Bengals win, we'd
- 58:42Speaker 2: be talking about the stuff that the offense left on
- 58:44Speaker 2: the table that they didn't want.
- 58:46Speaker 4: That's I think, Mayo, there's that line. Very early in
- 58:49Speaker 4: this pres convience. We felt like we left a lot
- 58:50Speaker 4: of plays on it.
- 58:51Speaker 14: Yeah, it's just funny because things are completely falling apart
- 58:55Speaker 14: in Caroline after one game, you know, and here we
- 58:58Speaker 14: are proof of concept.
- 59:00Speaker 2: You know.
- 59:00Speaker 14: It's it's it's one extreme or the other. You lose
- 59:03Speaker 14: the game, it's, oh my god, what are they?
- 59:05Speaker 4: You know, And as frustrating as it is, Mike, it's
- 59:09Speaker 4: kind of what makes the NFL great is the gross
- 59:12Speaker 4: overreactions week to week. They're one week like soap operas.
- 59:17Speaker 2: You don't have that game the next day to wash.
- 59:21Speaker 4: You know, we'll go We'll go to the to the
- 59:24Speaker 4: fun baseball team in town. They shut out, that's all.
- 59:30Speaker 4: There's a path that they and by the way behind
- 59:33Speaker 4: two other.
- 59:33Speaker 2: Teams, and there's only twenty games left.
- 59:36Speaker 4: Oh, there's not that many left, really, So they beat
- 59:39Speaker 4: Baltimore twelve three, right, I do because I want them
- 59:43Speaker 4: to spend money and try to put the best team
- 59:46Speaker 4: they can, and I think making the playoffs would send
- 59:49Speaker 4: a bad message to John Henry anyway. That's I can't
- 59:53Speaker 4: be any more honest than that. No, I want the
- 59:56Speaker 4: team to.
- 59:57Speaker 2: Be good, I know.
- 59:59Speaker 4: So they win twelve three, they beat Baltimore on Monday night,
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: they may have found their way, like this is this
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: is what I'm reading on Twitter. And they lose the
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: next night, and then you know, the next night. To
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: Fred's point, you don't have to wait a week. You
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: don't have a week to debate that they found their way.
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: If the next night you come out, the Bats are
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: silent again, you lose five to three, and you'll drop
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: another game back, you have another team flip you Detroit
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: got ahead of them, and all of a sudden, it's like,
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: you know what was Whereas in the NFL you have
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: a whole week to argue whether or not it's it's sustainable.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: It's the beauty of it, I know what I mean.
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: That's what makes the NFL great.
- 1:00:39Speaker 14: I think that's what I was happy about after the win.
- 1:00:40Speaker 14: Was just like, wow, this is going to be a
- 1:00:42Speaker 14: nice week. Like what does this mean in the broad
- 1:00:44Speaker 14: I don't know, but like, this is going to be
- 1:00:45Speaker 14: a nice week. I mean, but there's also we were
- 1:00:47Speaker 14: talking about, well now that we're gonna get blogged by
- 1:00:50Speaker 14: these guys and stuff.
- 1:00:51Speaker 5: You know, so I enjoy it. It's this is so
- 1:00:53Speaker 5: much more fun whan they win.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: No, I mean, Parcels used to talk about it. You know,
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: you lose that game and you wake you want to
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: throw up in your mouth, and it just it just
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: ruins every taste is good. Yeah, you know, but if
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: you win the game, then you're riding high.
- 1:01:06Speaker 14: I just I love the saying that it's like winning
- 1:01:08Speaker 14: doesn't feel as good as losing feels bad.
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: Something along those lines.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 1:01:12Speaker 8: A lot of the great safety.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: And that's the other thing. I know, it's all the
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: pros athletes and all the sports put in a lot
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: of work, but a lot of work is put into
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: a football game. It's you know, I know, some teams
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: make it look easy, you know, the mahomes is and all,
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: but it's it's hard to win in the NFL, and
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: a lot of work is put into every game. So
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: when you win that game, it's like almost a relief,
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: like you know, and when you lose that game, it's
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: it's put.
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: All the way. And I don't like the guy.
- 1:01:44Speaker 8: But did you hear Jim Habba after the game?
- 1:01:46Speaker 11: No?
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: You know, like he won his first game obviously back
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: with with the Chargers, and he's just like, you know,
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: these is it's really hard. These wins are really hard
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: to get in the NFL. This is why I don't
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: like him.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: But he's absolutely This is why I was so upset
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: with with Josh McDaniels in Denver, Like you know, he know,
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: like he knows what it takes to lose or win
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: a football game in this league and how bad it
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: feels to lose a game.
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: What's the what's the maddest, Mike, you've been here since
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: nineteen what's the madness that you've ever seen? Fred? Can
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: you recall?
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: Oh Man, that's a good question because and Andy had
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: to be part of that's probably the clip that's probably
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: the answer with that, But that's not football related.
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: The post game bus in Denver and O nine all
- 1:02:41Speaker 4: time is definitely one of the top three.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean, like, I don't want to say
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: like Josh meant to be disrespectful, but I think he
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: just he just lost he lost his mind for a second,
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: understanding that I know they're my ex teammates and all
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: that stuff, but they're they're hurting right now and they
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: don't want to see me come over to their bus,
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: you know, whooping.
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: It up and hugging everybody. Yeah, So me and Andy
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: started off, we're all in the bus, We're all on
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: the bus side, right, and me and Andy Stott like
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: need like his friends, Like, he goes, look at this,
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: what is he doing over here?
- 1:03:13Speaker 11: Up?
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: So when Andy and I originally are like, Fred, what's
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: she supposed to be? Like, He's not supposed to be happy.
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: He's just coming over, like, you know whatever. And then
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: it went like it went on for like another five minutes,
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: and finally Me and Andy were like, I ain't saying nothing.
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: He's kind of right now. He's ready to explode. Because
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: even it got to the point where even Andy and
- 1:03:30Speaker 4: I were like, all right, Josh, go back on your sideline.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: I think I might have even wrote about it in
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: the next issue the old edit letter upset. I was upset,
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: but you know what, it would have been better if
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: I had a bud Light because they're so easy to
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: drink and they're easy to enjoy. Bud Light the official

- 1:05:58Speaker 19: When someone accident threw away the school play costumes, oh no,
- 1:06:03Speaker 19: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery.
- 1:06:07Speaker 19: Everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx Where
- 1:06:11Speaker 19: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 1:06:17Speaker 20: First of all, just a day of remembrance for nine
- 1:06:22Speaker 20: to eleven to all the servicemen first responders once again,
- 1:06:27Speaker 20: just letting them know that we appreciate them. And you know,
- 1:06:31Speaker 20: kind of talked about it this morning in the squad
- 1:06:33Speaker 20: meeting and it was like a reminder of how old
- 1:06:35Speaker 20: I'm getting. That we have people in the squad room
- 1:06:38Speaker 20: that didn't live that experience, but everyone in here did
- 1:06:41Speaker 20: live that experience, and we remember where we were during
- 1:06:43Speaker 20: that experience, and I don't want that to go unnoticed. Secondly,
- 1:06:48Speaker 20: I would say, just to wrap up last week before
- 1:06:50Speaker 20: we get onto Seattle. I do think it's important to
- 1:06:52Speaker 20: recognize some of the players that may not get all
- 1:06:55Speaker 20: the stories written about them or anything like that, but
- 1:06:57Speaker 20: we have practice players of the week, and I tell
- 1:06:59Speaker 20: the guys, you know, every week that the process is important,
- 1:07:03Speaker 20: and the practice players they make sure they do a
- 1:07:05Speaker 20: good job going out there giving us a good look
- 1:07:07Speaker 20: and preparedness for the game, and so after going forward,
- 1:07:10Speaker 20: So after wins, only after wins, we'll have a list
- 1:07:14Speaker 20: of practice players. So for this week it was Eric Johnson,
- 1:07:18Speaker 20: O'shawn Mathis, Joe Giles, Harris aj Thomas, Joe mill On, Kashawan,
- 1:07:23Speaker 20: Booty will Cox, Mitch will Cox, and Curtis Jacobs. Thought
- 1:07:27Speaker 20: those guys went out there and gave us a good
- 1:07:29Speaker 20: look and gave us a chance to win the football game.
- 1:07:32Speaker 21: Going back to your first stagent, Hope, what are your
- 1:07:35Speaker 21: thoughts on Joe Cardona and what he does on and.
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: Off the field.
- 1:07:39Speaker 20: Yeah, you know, I have nothing but love and respect
- 1:07:41Speaker 20: for Joe. Actually had him go up and speak to
- 1:07:44Speaker 20: the team, and you know when that happened, what he
- 1:07:46Speaker 20: talked about was, you know, when that happened, just the
- 1:07:50Speaker 20: rallying of all the let's say eighteen year olds that
- 1:07:53Speaker 20: really are like we got to sign up and join
- 1:07:55Speaker 20: the military and really protect our nation. Joe has two jobs.
- 1:08:01Speaker 20: He has two jobs, and football is the second one.
- 1:08:03Speaker 20: You know, the first one is as a serviceman, you know,
- 1:08:06Speaker 20: to serve, to serve our country. And I think all
- 1:08:09Speaker 20: the all the players in the locker room understand, uh,
- 1:08:12Speaker 20: you know how tough it is for him. Uh, and
- 1:08:14Speaker 20: at the same time have a great appreciation for everything
- 1:08:16Speaker 20: he does.
- 1:08:17Speaker 9: Diructly go down that road a little further. I take
- 1:08:20Speaker 9: you were probably in high school at the time.
- 1:08:22Speaker 20: Yeah, so I was in school. I just remember everyone
- 1:08:24Speaker 20: having to go to to the cafeteria and they just
- 1:08:29Speaker 20: turned on the TVs and uh, it was crazy.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:08:32Speaker 20: I'm a military brat ish you know. You know, my
- 1:08:36Speaker 20: grandfather was a chief Master sergeant, my mom's in military
- 1:08:38Speaker 20: as a civilian. My stepdad also in the military, So
- 1:08:43Speaker 20: I understand and and understood what was going on at
- 1:08:46Speaker 20: the same time. It was it was one of those
- 1:08:48Speaker 20: things where you just feel like you're in a dream
- 1:08:50Speaker 20: and don't really Yeah, you don't think it's real. I
- 1:08:53Speaker 20: will say there is significance even here in the Northeast.
- 1:08:55Speaker 20: I think one of the flights actually took off from Boston,
- 1:08:57Speaker 20: if i'm both of them took off from Boston. Okay, yeah,
- 1:09:01Speaker 20: so definitely significant here.
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: In this region.
- 1:09:05Speaker 13: Russ.
- 1:09:06Speaker 18: You mentioned your age just an opening statement, which is
- 1:09:09Speaker 18: very thoughtful.
- 1:09:10Speaker 20: But going up against Mike McDonald, another young rookie coach
- 1:09:14Speaker 20: over at Seattle, have.
- 1:09:15Speaker 13: You guys crossed past much that you've been able to
- 1:09:18Speaker 13: discuss coming from similar defensive background.
- 1:09:22Speaker 20: Uh no, I mean it's a short Actually, we haven't
- 1:09:25Speaker 20: had any conversations there. You know, I've had conversations with
- 1:09:28Speaker 20: other coaches around the league, but I haven't had the
- 1:09:30Speaker 20: privilege to meet with Mike.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: Obviously, Mike led one of the better defensive league last
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: year in Baltimore.
- 1:09:36Speaker 21: As you study them their system, what kind of stands
- 1:09:39Speaker 21: out about the way they like to play.
- 1:09:41Speaker 20: Yeah, I mean everyone is a threat. When we talk
- 1:09:44Speaker 20: about known rushers, it's really it's really the unknown rushers
- 1:09:47Speaker 20: that make that Baltimore defense special. Like you don't know
- 1:09:50Speaker 20: who's coming, you know, they drop out defensive ends. They
- 1:09:53Speaker 20: do things that are very similar to some of the
- 1:09:56Speaker 20: things that we do as well, you know, the zone
- 1:09:58Speaker 20: blitzing and protecting deep part of the field. And historically
- 1:10:01Speaker 20: they've always had a good defense and have a bunch
- 1:10:04Speaker 20: of good players.
- 1:10:04Speaker 9: So yeah, the players showed him to take them to
- 1:10:11Speaker 9: the where you've heard before the day stup reactions.
- 1:10:17Speaker 11: You know.
- 1:10:17Speaker 20: That was the players, and we talked about artificially creating
- 1:10:21Speaker 20: adversity during practice, and one of those ways is to
- 1:10:23Speaker 20: go to the hill after a two hour and fifteen
- 1:10:26Speaker 20: minute practice where you know, you go one or two ways.
- 1:10:31Speaker 20: One way is like, ah, man, I got to go
- 1:10:33Speaker 20: to the hill, and the other way is all right,
- 1:10:34Speaker 20: we've got to break down, bust down through this wall
- 1:10:37Speaker 20: and push our bodies because most of the time, and
- 1:10:39Speaker 20: I tell the guys this all the time, like your
- 1:10:41Speaker 20: mind is going to give up before your body gives up.
- 1:10:44Speaker 20: And so being able to do that and go to
- 1:10:46Speaker 20: the hill or take them to the deep water as
- 1:10:48Speaker 20: we like to say, uh, because we do have a
- 1:10:50Speaker 20: lot of faith in our conditioning and what we've gone
- 1:10:53Speaker 20: through throughout the week and throughout the summer. The guys
- 1:10:56Speaker 20: that started saying like for you know, most people say,
- 1:10:58Speaker 20: oh fourth quarter, They were like, take them to the hill,
- 1:11:01Speaker 20: and I love it.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: I love it.
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: And that was from the players.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: You know, sorry the hill. Yeah I did.
- 1:11:11Speaker 20: And one thing I would say is, you know, at
- 1:11:13Speaker 20: least from my perspective, it was always one of those
- 1:11:15Speaker 20: times where I'm just gonna prove everybody wrong anyway, you know,
- 1:11:18Speaker 20: in college. I remember in college making coaches so mad
- 1:11:21Speaker 20: because in college, what they would do, like say someone
- 1:11:24Speaker 20: was late, they would get the whole team up and
- 1:11:26Speaker 20: we would have to run and all that stuff, and
- 1:11:28Speaker 20: that one guy wouldn't run. And so I used to
- 1:11:31Speaker 20: make the coaches mad because I would just keep running.
- 1:11:34Speaker 20: I would be laughing the entire time.
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: The entire time.
- 1:11:37Speaker 20: But being able to do that in tough times is
- 1:11:40Speaker 20: definitely a good thing. I don't want to get into
- 1:11:52Speaker 20: a lot of that. What I will say is, you know,
- 1:11:53Speaker 20: he just has to continue to progress and continue to develop,
- 1:11:56Speaker 20: both on the field and off the field. And you
- 1:11:58Speaker 20: know that's my responsibility ultimately.
- 1:12:00Speaker 9: Jer what did what did Seattle show you offensively? That
- 1:12:04Speaker 9: has You're right or something?
- 1:12:07Speaker 20: Yeah, I know most of the time we always talk
- 1:12:10Speaker 20: about the quarterback first and foremost, which they haven't experienced quarterback.
- 1:12:14Speaker 20: What I would say is just the run game. I
- 1:12:16Speaker 20: think Kenneth he doesn't get a lot of hype. I
- 1:12:19Speaker 20: don't know what his Matten rating is or anything like that.
- 1:12:22Speaker 20: But when you turn on the film, like this guy
- 1:12:24Speaker 20: pops off the film and he's a very aggressive runner.
- 1:12:28Speaker 20: He can do it all. And then you look at
- 1:12:29Speaker 20: the receivers, you know, different skill sets. There's a huge
- 1:12:34Speaker 20: contrast between Lockett and Metcalf, but they have a good team,
- 1:12:39Speaker 20: have a good offense.
- 1:12:40Speaker 18: How difficult is it to game playing against the team
- 1:12:42Speaker 18: that only has one game of film like the coaching staff.
- 1:12:45Speaker 20: I mean, this is why I always preach about awareness.
- 1:12:48Speaker 20: I mean it kind of goes back to that conversation,
- 1:12:50Speaker 20: and you guys will probably get tired of me hearing,
- 1:12:52Speaker 20: tired of me saying it, but these games go back
- 1:12:55Speaker 20: to awareness. It's about you know, you can watch the
- 1:12:58Speaker 20: film and at some point during the game they will
- 1:13:00Speaker 20: revert back to what you know, who they are. Now,
- 1:13:03Speaker 20: I'm saying that most teams script the first fifteen plays
- 1:13:06Speaker 20: as key breaking type of plays or to get the
- 1:13:09Speaker 20: ball in the hands of one of the guys that
- 1:13:10Speaker 20: has to get started early. Same thing in the second half.
- 1:13:13Speaker 20: So you know, take the first fifteen plays that are
- 1:13:16Speaker 20: scripted to break the tendencies that we've watched on film.
- 1:13:19Speaker 20: And this is why awareness, in my opinion, is more
- 1:13:23Speaker 20: important than sixty percent of the time when they're in
- 1:13:26Speaker 20: the gun, they're doing this. Sixty forty is like I
- 1:13:29Speaker 20: can't play like that.
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: And now great moments in.
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: History. So I do the thing where you see somebody
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: in their car they're about to leave, so you pull over,
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: put your single line and just sit there. So this
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: guy in a big tesla comes up right in front
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: of me, starts giving me the hands like what what
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: I'm like? You know, mostly go around, go around? You know,
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: He's like, you wouldn't do it, wouldn't go around. Finally,
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: you know, he decides, oh, I'll go around. So he
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: goes around, but then he decides to do a pull
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: up rolldown. He pulls up next to Maxin. He pulls
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: the pull up, pull up, roll down and pulls down
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: the window. So he starts talking to me, and I
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: just say keep driving. Just like that. You had the
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: kids in the backseat. I don't care, but I just
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: say keep he goes. We'll talk later. I know we won't.
- 1:14:20Speaker 13: You know. That was it.
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: That's another great moment from all right back here on
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: Patriots Unfiltered eight five five pass five hundred is the
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: I TPX hotline web radio at patriots dot com. Is
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: the email addresses Deuce, Paul, myself, Matt in the booth,
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: Evan will be by later. We get a couple of
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: phone calls, and I do want to talk about something
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: we touched on yesterday. We didn't get to It was
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: reviews of Tom's first game as a play uh color analyst.
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: But let's take these calls and then we'll get to that.
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: Helen is in San Francisco. What's up, Hellen?
- 1:14:59Speaker 12: Gentlemen?
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: Can you Yes, we can.
- 1:15:02Speaker 13: It's great.
- 1:15:03Speaker 14: Sunday's unexpected wind put me over the moon. So I
- 1:15:06Speaker 14: am calling to speak your perspective to bring.
- 1:15:08Speaker 13: Me back down to earth.
- 1:15:09Speaker 14: What are aspects of the team that fans are worrying
- 1:15:12Speaker 14: about that they shouldn't be worrying about, And what are
- 1:15:15Speaker 14: aspects of the.
- 1:15:15Speaker 10: Team that fans seem unconcerned about that they should.
- 1:15:18Speaker 13: Be concerned about.
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: Okay, that's a good one. So what are they worried
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: about that they shouldn't be worried about? And what aren't
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: they worried about that they should be That's.
- 1:15:27Speaker 14: A tough question because I feel like the things they
- 1:15:28Speaker 14: are worried about are what they should be worried about,
- 1:15:30Speaker 14: like the offensive line and you know.
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: Okay, so should they be worried right now about when
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: Drake may should play perfect?
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: That's a perfect one. And there was a lot of that. Yeah,
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: people saying like, should this accelerate Drake may coming back?
- 1:15:45Speaker 17: Yeah?
- 1:15:45Speaker 8: Does it slow it down?
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: We're not worried about the coaches, figured don't worry about
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: when Drake and what are we worried about? Sorry, I.
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: Would I would say pass rush.
- 1:15:58Speaker 5: I would say the past rush.
- 1:15:59Speaker 14: I think everybody know, and myself a great game, key
- 1:16:01Speaker 14: On White, nice job, But the overall effectiveness of the
- 1:16:04Speaker 14: pass rush, I don't that's something to me that really
- 1:16:07Speaker 14: worries me. Uh, you know, if they can't scheme it
- 1:16:10Speaker 14: up and they're not getting guys home. I think you're
- 1:16:13Speaker 14: saying that people aren't worried about pass rush. They're thinking
- 1:16:15Speaker 14: we got key On White's and all pro and that
- 1:16:17Speaker 14: everything's going to be fine.
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: Worry about the pass.
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: Rush, okay, worry about the pass rush?
- 1:16:25Speaker 8: Yeah, I worry. I don't know, like I worry about me,
- 1:16:28Speaker 8: like I worry about everything.
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: Like I don't necessarily think the offensive line is as
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: big a concern as a lot of people have it
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: to be.
- 1:16:39Speaker 8: But I think it's a huge concern, you know what,
- 1:16:41Speaker 8: Like I can't.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: You know, you know what I'm not worried about right now,
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: but I should be is what if David Andrews gets hurt.
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: I'm not thinking about it because I don't want to
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: now I am.
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: I would say depth in general, yeah, is right, I
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: think because depth, I don't think they have a lot
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: of depth on that.
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: Team's Von Godshaw if he got hurt.
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: I mean, that's it's out of my mind. But maybe
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: I should be a little bit more worried about it.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: That's a good question, Helen, and thank you for that.
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: Cameron is in North Carolina, Cam, what's up?
- 1:17:12Speaker 12: Hey, guys. Yesterday one of the callers mentioned that if
- 1:17:16Speaker 12: Jacobe were to go six and two, would Gerrod Mayo
- 1:17:20Speaker 12: have the stones to pull him for Drake may And
- 1:17:25Speaker 12: I don't think they should. I don't think will. But
- 1:17:27Speaker 12: at the same time, if they're so strict to this plan,
- 1:17:30Speaker 12: this developmental plan for Drake and it does get to that,
- 1:17:34Speaker 12: say set game where they haven't planned that that would
- 1:17:37Speaker 12: be the time to stick in Drake may Do you
- 1:17:39Speaker 12: think they would still be strict to the plan or
- 1:17:42Speaker 12: do you think that they would kind of push the
- 1:17:44Speaker 12: plan back because of the success of the team. And
- 1:17:46Speaker 12: I'll take it off there, thank you.
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: I know we talked about it yesterday and I said,
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: if they're winning games twelve to ten and they're six
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: and two, I think they would. Now you disagree, right, Paul.
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: Don't think there's any scenario that would exist that they
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: would be six and two and make.
- 1:18:04Speaker 8: A change other than an injury.
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: And I don't know. It's a great question. It's a
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: great scenario that he brings up. I would say, I
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: don't know that they're playing. I know they have a plan.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: What if the two games for the last two games.
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: I don't know that the.
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: Plan specifically says in week X, Right, you know what
- 1:18:25Speaker 4: I mean? Like, that's what the scenario he's trying to unfold. Like, right,
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: they're saying, we're gonna let play the first eight games
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: no matter what. Then May goes in. Right, and now
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: does the plan change because there's six and two?
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think that.
- 1:18:35Speaker 8: I don't think that's the way the plan is I
- 1:18:37Speaker 8: set up?
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: Right, I agree.
- 1:18:38Speaker 14: I think the question of would you rather make the
- 1:18:40Speaker 14: playoffs with Jakobe Rissett this year and not play May
- 1:18:43Speaker 14: or miss the playoffs.
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: And have May play, I'd rather make the playoffs.
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: I think it's hard to say I would rather not
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: make the playoffs. I know I want me to play
- 1:18:52Speaker 4: as badly as anybody, probably except for Evan. But I
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: I you know, if you're a fan of the team
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: and you don't want them to make the playoffs, and
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: I don't know how that, I don't know how you
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: But now.
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: Now people will say, oh, but you're adding extra pressure
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: to him because next year you're going to expect him
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: to go to the playoffs and it's his first year
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: and blah blah blah.
- 1:19:12Speaker 5: You know, Jacoby gets him to the playoffs and then
- 1:19:14Speaker 5: you start, may know, you think.
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: That's a stretch. People are going to say, this team
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: went to the playoffs with Jacoby Brissett, Drake may should
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: at least get them to where he was.
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: Well, when when he's ready, yeah, next year, I'm talking,
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: but that's fair.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: If he's not ready next year, then what are we doing?
- 1:19:29Speaker 4: I'm saying when he's like, well, if he doesn't play
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: at all this year, I'm going to tell you right now,
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: he's not going to be ready at the start of
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: next year.
- 1:19:36Speaker 8: Ye see what next year?
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: To play to this? He'll but no, but he will
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: like Tom Brady wasn't ready when he just went in
- 1:19:44Speaker 4: and ended up winning the Super Bowl.
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: I know, but and Tom Brady wasn't the third overall pick.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: If let's just say, for whatever reason, Drake may doesn't
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: play this year, he will be the Week one starter
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: next year.
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: When I said not ready, I didn't mean like not ready,
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: like the coaches won't play him. Yeah, I mean he's
- 1:20:02Speaker 4: not going to be ready to be his best self. Quite.
- 1:20:07Speaker 14: You can only get that by playing yes and taking
- 1:20:09Speaker 14: your lumps and having some bad games.
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: Of course, that's why that's that's why a lot of
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: people like me want him in now.
- 1:20:16Speaker 4: I want him in now too. Right now, that was
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: a little felger like right there, Like I'm the only
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: one that wants Drake made to play raised in Atlanta?
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: What's that?
- 1:20:25Speaker 13: Ray?
- 1:20:26Speaker 16: Hey, I'm just checking anger to hear from you all
- 1:20:28Speaker 16: another week and pretty much you know, we're we're on
- 1:20:33Speaker 16: the right track, you know. I'll just keep a simple
- 1:20:35Speaker 16: on his call. We're on the right track and we
- 1:20:38Speaker 16: just need to protect Sat at all costs. And and
- 1:20:43Speaker 16: like you guys said, make sure that you know Andrews
- 1:20:47Speaker 16: is okay too, you know, because that's the point job
- 1:20:49Speaker 16: that he has to do in the front. So those
- 1:20:52Speaker 16: were on the right track, you know, without being ahead
- 1:20:55Speaker 16: of ourselves or whatever. You know, we can take going.
- 1:20:59Speaker 16: We can dominate the Seattle. We can we keep going,
- 1:21:03Speaker 16: you know, with it. So that's all I got to
- 1:21:05Speaker 16: say for this call. Man, good to hear from you, guys.
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: Okay, Ray, more with a statement than a question was coming,
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: like Alex is in Greece? What's up? Alex?
- 1:21:18Speaker 11: Hey, guys, is are going good?
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: Where in Greece are you? Okay? I don't know where
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: that is, but.
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: One thing that you could have said, Sparta?
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: Are you in Sparta?
- 1:21:34Speaker 11: No, I'm We're in Boston. The first first of my
- 1:21:37Speaker 11: family born in America, and I moved back home with everybody.
- 1:21:41Speaker 11: So yeah, So I just had a question kind of
- 1:21:45Speaker 11: to play devil's advocate for the win the other week. Again,
- 1:21:50Speaker 11: I know it's just week one and there's a long
- 1:21:52Speaker 11: way to go, but are you guys worried if none
- 1:21:55Speaker 11: of our offensive draft picks end up really picking up
- 1:21:58Speaker 11: because Javon Baker already got suspend and that Polk wasn't
- 1:22:01Speaker 11: involved Jahem Bell isn't really doing anything, would it be
- 1:22:05Speaker 11: a disappointment for you guys if only Drake May is
- 1:22:08Speaker 11: the person who really shows up this year and shows
- 1:22:10Speaker 11: you anything because so far, I mean, we haven't really
- 1:22:13Speaker 11: seen anything to be excited about from the young offensive weapons.
- 1:22:16Speaker 11: So that's all I got.
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: Minimally, I want I would not poke to do something.
- 1:22:21Speaker 4: If Drake May pans out, I would not be upset.
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: I mean, obviously I want the more guys that pan out,
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: the better. But as long as Drake May panned.
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: Out, what is he talking about Baker being suspended?
- 1:22:30Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't know where he got that is that
- 1:22:32Speaker 8: unless I miss a report.
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: I know some people were just didn't play.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: Thinking that maybe he didn't play for disciplinary reasons. A
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: lot of people haven't heard anything.
- 1:22:42Speaker 4: A lot of people thought Jalen Polk was open, you know,
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: from time to time. So I'm not looking at like
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: one game and saying, well, that's a disappointing draft pick.
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: Jaean Bell was a seventh round pick. Like, if he
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: pans out, great, you know, I'm not putting him in
- 1:22:59Speaker 4: the same cat category. But if Drake May works out,
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: that's worth.
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: It for the biggest piece of the puzzle.
- 1:23:07Speaker 14: But I mean, I'd be disappointed if Jalen Polk doesn't
- 1:23:10Speaker 14: turn around have a good, you know, solid year.
- 1:23:12Speaker 5: I'm not expecting him.
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: To like, what would you rather have Like Jalen Polk,
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: Jahem Bell and Javon Baker all work out and Drake
- 1:23:19Speaker 4: may doesn't.
- 1:23:20Speaker 5: Yeah, right, the other way around, Jake may all day.
- 1:23:22Speaker 14: I mean, that's the hardest piece to get, uh, and
- 1:23:25Speaker 14: he's got all the talent in the world. So I mean,
- 1:23:26Speaker 14: if they do get Drake May you know that, I mean,
- 1:23:29Speaker 14: get Drake may By if he does become the guy,
- 1:23:32Speaker 14: everything's on the table.
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: As Ev't said, everything's on the table.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: I mean back to Helen's question, what is something that
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: right now we're not worried about that we should be
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: should be we worried still about the equality of our
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: draft picks, like getting back on track with making good drafts.
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: Oh but if I was really like, all right, so
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: we're going to go negative concerns, it's is, you know,
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: basically my wheelhouse. Okay, So I would worry that how
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: they played offensively is how they want to play.
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: Right, But you're worried about it?
- 1:24:03Speaker 4: Yeah, how they played offensively in the game is not
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: an aberration. That's how they want to go to He.
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: Didn't be worried about it, No, I'm.
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: That's something that I that I don't think a lot
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: of people are worried about.
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: But I'm talking about you, but you are worried about it.
- 1:24:17Speaker 8: So the question was so I think he just put
- 1:24:20Speaker 8: me in.
- 1:24:20Speaker 4: I felt like we were doing picks. All of a sudden,
- 1:24:22Speaker 4: he put me in the grinder. The question was, what
- 1:24:25Speaker 4: is something that you're worried about that other people aren't
- 1:24:28Speaker 4: know that you shouldn't be No, he asked for both.
- 1:24:32Speaker 4: Helen asked, I know, but.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: It wasn't what are you worried about that other people?
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: It's like, what are you worried about that you shouldn't
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: be worried about?
- 1:24:39Speaker 4: Okay, well, this is something that other people aren't worried about.
- 1:24:42Speaker 2: But I am bringing other people. I want to know
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: your opinion.
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: I just told you. Okay, how they play offense is
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: something that I would I would be worried about that.
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: Fans aren't they think that Sunday was great?
- 1:24:55Speaker 8: Right?
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: That's what that was the second part.
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: That's the spirit of the question.
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: Ask something that the fans aren't worried about that they
- 1:25:02Speaker 4: should be. I don't correct. I think that was one
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: of the two questions. Okay, what are fans not worried
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: about that they should.
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: Be and you're telling them that, I would say that,
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: all right, all right.
- 1:25:11Speaker 4: I think you should be worried about how they want
- 1:25:14Speaker 4: to play offense. Yeah, because I've heard Alex van Pelt
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: say it all summer. I've heard Gerrod Meo say it
- 1:25:20Speaker 4: all summer. What they did on Sunday wasn't like by accident,
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: the way the game plan unfolded. That's how they want
- 1:25:27Speaker 4: to play. I don't think you can win doing that. Yeah,
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: I'm on record as saying that I would be worried
- 1:25:32Speaker 4: about that.
- 1:25:33Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: I think a lot of fans, A lot of fans.
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: Aren't, including the guy who said yesterday, if they play
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: like that all year, they can win eleven games.
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: He did, well, they have to have two games where
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: they score twenty six or more.
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: Yeah, he had a lot of qualifiers. But if you
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: play like that, you ain't scoring twenty six.
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: All right. We talked a little bit about talking about
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: Tom Brady's debut as a color analyst. I heard a
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: little bit about it. I didn't watch or listen to
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: the whole game, but I tuned in from time to time.
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: To me, it was just weird hearing his voice in
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: that contest. Sure, it was just weird.
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: I'm going to be. I want to turn this over
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: to Mike because I think he has something here, not major.
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: The one thing that I'll say which kind of contradicts
- 1:26:15Speaker 4: what I've often said about the announceers, like I make
- 1:26:18Speaker 4: fun of the Syracuse bots. Yeah, his voice was funny. Yeah,
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: his voice sounded funny on the air.
- 1:26:24Speaker 17: To me.
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: What a catch and what a throw?
- 1:26:28Speaker 17: Right.
- 1:26:29Speaker 8: I don't think he perfect.
- 1:26:31Speaker 9: Right.
- 1:26:33Speaker 14: It wasn't a big take that I have, but I
- 1:26:34Speaker 14: just felt like he was guy pointing out things that
- 1:26:36Speaker 14: everybody sees, you know, everybody sees like you need more
- 1:26:39Speaker 14: from a color analyst, especially from a guy like Brady.
- 1:26:41Speaker 14: And we talked a little bit about Romo, you know,
- 1:26:43Speaker 14: maybe using some of the pregame meetings to forecast things.
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: But I like that, like I when first started, did
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: you like him or not?
- 1:26:51Speaker 5: Like I did like him?
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: I'd like him. I did like him.
- 1:26:53Speaker 14: I got you know, it's a kind of gun stale
- 1:26:54Speaker 14: and I don't really listen to these guys anyway. We
- 1:26:56Speaker 14: just kind of watched the game and talk amongst ourselves.
- 1:26:59Speaker 14: But I want insight from Brady. I want to know
- 1:27:02Speaker 14: what's going through his mind. If he were watching this
- 1:27:04Speaker 14: coverage and in stead, he's like and Marca Parson's off
- 1:27:07Speaker 14: the edge, and yeah, there he is, and he sacked him.
- 1:27:09Speaker 14: You know, like, I know, I know, I like, tell
- 1:27:10Speaker 14: me something. I don't know, Tom, you know, and again
- 1:27:13Speaker 14: like I think he's new and it's probably get better.
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: But what it might being a mean to hate by
- 1:27:19Speaker 4: Brady lying hatred or Brady just comes out at all times.
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: It's unbelievable.
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: I love that man.
- 1:27:24Speaker 4: Now, I thought it was exactly what Mike said. I
- 1:27:26Speaker 4: didn't really hear anything. I didn't watch the game start
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: to finish. I did, believe it or not very rare
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: for me. I shut off Red Zone and put on
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: Fox so I could hear like a driver or two
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: in the fourth quarter. Now by the time that happened,
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: because you know, we were doing the post game by
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: the time I got home. But you know, the game
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: was pretty much decided. But like there was one deep
- 1:27:52Speaker 4: ball that Watson put right in Amari Cooper's hands. Brady
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: didn't say anything about being dropped or anything like that.
- 1:27:59Speaker 14: I was like, yeah, come on, yeah, it's not conventional,
- 1:28:03Speaker 14: but I'd almost rather just the playback by play.
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: Shut up.
- 1:28:05Speaker 14: Let Tom Brady just talk as if he's the quarterback
- 1:28:08Speaker 14: watching the line of scrimmage. Just rattle it off, buddy,
- 1:28:10Speaker 14: what are you seeing, safeties?
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: What are you looking for? Is he you know, like
- 1:28:13Speaker 5: just blasted out. You know, it's perfect, Mike, that's it
- 1:28:16Speaker 5: had too much dead air.
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: He's circling Micah. Yeah, circling Micah Parsons. So tell us,
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: like what's going through your head? Like, okay, so obviously
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: this guy's been disruptive all day. You need to slide
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: the protection over here. Deshaun Watson doesn't do that quickly
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: enough something you know, that's very rudimentary, Like he should
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: be able to do that, you know, at a very
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: high PhD level football wise.
- 1:28:43Speaker 8: And I didn't hear any of that.
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: I heard one person say that the fact that he
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: said the quarterback got lucky on a couple of Frozer's
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: evidence that he's going to be critical of players that
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: kind of lucky.
- 1:28:55Speaker 10: There.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: That's it.
- 1:28:56Speaker 4: Like I just I was envisioning if Brady threw the
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: ball to Cooper. I just was envisioning Amari Cooper never
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: getting the ball thrown to him again. Yeah, like he
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: would have been so Brady would have been so mad
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: because like Watson. Like Watson didn't play well in that game,
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: but he got the snot kicked out of him. And
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: like in the fourth quarter of a twenty point game,
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: he dropped a dime to Cooper and it went off
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: his hands. I didn't think he gave a great effort
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: for it. I think he gave a scoreboard kind of
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: effort for it, like we're down anyway, and I think
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: Brady would have lost his mind if that pass didn't
- 1:29:31Speaker 4: get caught for him.
- 1:29:32Speaker 2: It's funny because there were two promotional videos having to
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: do with Brady getting you know, one was that video
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: with the binders and he showed how like he had
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: binders on every team and he's doing all this research.
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: And then there was more of like a teaser that
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: Fox put out where you know, the different Tom Brady's
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: throughout his career comes to him about how it's always
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: about the work you put in and you're the goat.
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: And so I came into the game thinging, Okay, this
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: guy wouldn't allow that to go out unless he had
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: really put in a different level of preparation and maybe
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: he's going to raise the bar for all other analysts
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: and make it. But it was really vanilla.
- 1:30:16Speaker 14: I mean by it like everybody's just going, well, he'll
- 1:30:18Speaker 14: get better, like he's just he's very well, but you
- 1:30:22Speaker 14: can get better from the clips late than he did early.
- 1:30:24Speaker 4: But like, yeah, how much I.
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: Mean too to Matt's point, there was a lot of
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: dead air where who was the guy doing the game
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: with him? I figured Kevin Burkhart. He would stop talking,
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: and that's you know, obviously where the color analyst goes in.
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: And Tom just said nothing true. And I don't know
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: if that's why he's rainy Defensive Player of the Year.
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: And I mean, I don't know if he was coached Tom.
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: If you don't know what to say or don't have
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: anything to say, don't say anything, maybe he was coached
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: that way, but it was it was a little awkward
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: at times.
- 1:30:58Speaker 8: I think vanilla is a good word two that you used. Fred.
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: I mean, I'm sure he will get better, and he's
- 1:31:03Speaker 4: never he's never done it. That was his first ever game. Yeah,
- 1:31:06Speaker 4: and I know practice, but it's a little bit different.
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: So he will get better, but I'm not sure that.
- 1:31:14Speaker 4: Like there's been a lot of you know, the Brady
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: support and you know there's a million out there, but like, well,
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: everybody told him he couldn't do X, Y and Z
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: coming out of college, and that it's not the same.
- 1:31:26Speaker 8: You can't.
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: You can't just like lift more weights and study more.
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: Like he knows football better than anyone that's doing that job,
- 1:31:35Speaker 4: Like you're not like he knows what it's not like,
- 1:31:40Speaker 4: it's not in his personality. I don't think to be
- 1:31:43Speaker 4: like to me in engaging on air personality. I just
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: don't think he has that.
- 1:31:47Speaker 7: How long until it's a three person booth.
- 1:31:50Speaker 8: That's a good point.
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: I from the day it was announced, I never thought
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: i'd see the day where he would do it. I
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: thought something would happen where it wouldn't happen. But there
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: he is. From Evan's here.
- 1:32:01Speaker 5: Hello, two songs on the More was the first one.
- 1:32:08Speaker 5: I don't worry about.
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: All right, Evan, what do you got for us? Well?
- 1:32:18Speaker 21: Well, well, Patriots back out at practice on Wednesday, and
- 1:32:22Speaker 21: although no disrespect to city, so who was not at practice,
- 1:32:25Speaker 21: I thought it was good news that everybody else was
- 1:32:29Speaker 21: at practice. So you come off a game and it
- 1:32:31Speaker 21: seems like they got out of that game relatively healthy.
- 1:32:34Speaker 21: I'm sure there's some bumps and bruises, we never got
- 1:32:36Speaker 21: to the injured, but there were no big injuries. Everybody
- 1:32:40Speaker 21: at practice today besides City, Like I said, he wasn't
- 1:32:44Speaker 21: at practice at all last week either. So uh, some
- 1:32:47Speaker 21: good news, some bad news, but I would say mostly good.
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: It's nice when the other team doesn't fight back.
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: I'm starting to wonder a little bit about the City.
- 1:32:56Speaker 14: Like, I know, like it probably wasn't the catastrophic Achilles
- 1:32:58Speaker 14: tar that we thought at first, but you were a
- 1:33:00Speaker 14: little bit, you know, curious about what it actually was.
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: It's just I mean, it seems like it's it's something significant.
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: Maybe it's if it's just like they still calling an ankle, yes,
- 1:33:11Speaker 4: it could it be like could it be a strained calf,
- 1:33:15Speaker 4: you know, like high you know something like that.
- 1:33:17Speaker 8: You know, you look at what they're dealing with McCaffrey.
- 1:33:20Speaker 21: Now, yeah, you worry about the the Kristaps Porzingis injury
- 1:33:24Speaker 21: where it was like the right up his calf and
- 1:33:27Speaker 21: it's like the ligament that attaches to the achilles. But
- 1:33:31Speaker 21: it's not the Achilles itself. The problem is is that
- 1:33:34Speaker 21: if you play on it too early, then the Achilles
- 1:33:36Speaker 21: is next.
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: And I wonder if they did that, if I wonder
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: if he went to practice because he was back on
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: the practice field one of those days, right last week,
- 1:33:44Speaker 4: the week between the game and then the game week,
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: right the week between the Washington game and game week,
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: wasn't he on the practice field once?
- 1:33:52Speaker 21: I maybe very briefly, but I haven't seen him participate
- 1:33:55Speaker 21: in any like extended practice since the injury.
- 1:33:58Speaker 8: So okay, so maybe I'm miss remembering that.
- 1:34:01Speaker 6: Okay, yep, So yeah, there we go.
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: I hear it was pads today.
- 1:34:06Speaker 6: Pads today, full pads, yep.
- 1:34:08Speaker 21: And it's it's cool because we actually, because of when
- 1:34:11Speaker 21: locker room is, we actually get to see them on
- 1:34:14Speaker 21: the pads, putting on the pads and getting ready for practice.
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: So now it makes my job easier. It's one less
- 1:34:20Speaker 6: thing that I have to note.
- 1:34:22Speaker 2: To note because you've already seen I've already seen it.
- 1:34:24Speaker 6: So I saw them putting the pads on, and I
- 1:34:26Speaker 6: was like, pads today. Mental note.
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: Girod mentioned that they are going to announce who are
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: with the practice players of the week, but they were
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: in the black jerseys that they did in the past.
- 1:34:36Speaker 21: They were indeed, yes, they were indeed wearing those and
- 1:34:39Speaker 21: I thought it was interesting on that list. A couple
- 1:34:41Speaker 21: of the claims, the waiver claims made that list, so
- 1:34:45Speaker 21: maybe that's an indication all of them were inactive for
- 1:34:47Speaker 21: the game on Sunday. Maybe that's an indication that those
- 1:34:50Speaker 21: guys are getting closer to contributing.
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: So so you've seen these practices before, even you know,
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: in season practices, and you get to see the warm ups, right,
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: conditioning and the stretching. Avid, was there more up tempo
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: from our starting quarterback during that session than you've seen.
- 1:35:11Speaker 6: In the past, more up tempo like or just more
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: of a.
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: Feeling of I'm I'm the captain, I'm I'm the leader
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: of the team from Jacoby Brissett.
- 1:35:22Speaker 8: Oddly specific question.
- 1:35:23Speaker 6: I wouldn't say so.
- 1:35:24Speaker 21: I think he's kind of been the same guy, the
- 1:35:26Speaker 21: same guy, Okay, since he started training camp, and I
- 1:35:30Speaker 21: think he's pretty much been the same. But they did
- 1:35:32Speaker 21: say that Joe Milton was the practice player of the week,
- 1:35:35Speaker 21: and so he was out there in a in a
- 1:35:37Speaker 21: black jersey and it was Joe Burrow, I guess right,
- 1:35:39Speaker 21: Joe Burrow. Yeah, him and Drake may mimicking Joe Burrow
- 1:35:43Speaker 21: on the scout team last week. So it was it
- 1:35:46Speaker 21: was about the same, I would say in terms of
- 1:35:47Speaker 21: his his energy or his mood. But the one thing
- 1:35:50Speaker 21: I with these practices is a little bit different is
- 1:35:53Speaker 21: that the skill players, both offensively and defensively, not the line,
- 1:35:57Speaker 21: the defensive line and the offensive liner are doing their
- 1:36:00Speaker 21: own thing. But they're doing a lot of that conditioning
- 1:36:04Speaker 21: work that we saw them do in in a training
- 1:36:06Speaker 21: camp where they were like running through the the ladders
- 1:36:10Speaker 21: and like stuff like that to start practice. They're doing
- 1:36:13Speaker 21: a lot of that work band work, you know, things
- 1:36:16Speaker 21: of that nature. While that is you know, we are
- 1:36:19Speaker 21: able to watch practice, so that's going on still even
- 1:36:23Speaker 21: into the season now that they're warming up in that way.
- 1:36:26Speaker 14: Think it's actually called the dynamic warm up seriously in
- 1:36:29Speaker 14: fun of the dynamic kick up, but they called this
- 1:36:31Speaker 14: like a dynamic warm up.
- 1:36:32Speaker 6: Yeah, it's just interesting.
- 1:36:33Speaker 21: I thought that, you know, they we had the whole
- 1:36:35Speaker 21: take them to the Hills thing, you know, from the
- 1:36:37Speaker 21: game on Sunday, and it does seem like the conditioning
- 1:36:40Speaker 21: stuff is real. You know that they are really taking
- 1:36:43Speaker 21: that seriously, and they have the guys out there, you know,
- 1:36:46Speaker 21: the corners, the safeties, linebackers, receivers, quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends,
- 1:36:52Speaker 21: those guys are out there doing these long shunning stuff.
- 1:36:55Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: Now, I know you can't verify because you don't get
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: to see all the practice. But the report that Drake
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: May was getting thirty percent of the first team snaps
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: in practice, yes, surprising to you? Is that number seemed
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: just right too high? Too little? What do you think?
- 1:37:13Speaker 21: I would say, maybe a little too high, too high.
- 1:37:16Speaker 21: I did have a conversation with Drake in the locker
- 1:37:19Speaker 21: room before practice, and that was not the impression. I
- 1:37:23Speaker 21: don't know who reported that though, so I don't want
- 1:37:25Speaker 21: to like throw any shade at somebody.
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: Someone said the sideline report, Mike and I were probably
- 1:37:31Speaker 4: deep in conversation, so we missed it. Someone said that
- 1:37:35Speaker 4: the sideline reporter, okay reported that. Yeah, that that's definitely.
- 1:37:40Speaker 21: I mean, look, he was the backup quarterback, so he's
- 1:37:42Speaker 21: going to get a couple of reps towards the end
- 1:37:45Speaker 21: of every team period, you would think, just because if
- 1:37:47Speaker 21: he has to play in the game, he's got to
- 1:37:49Speaker 21: be somewhat ready. So maybe that that's probably probably maybe normal,
- 1:37:54Speaker 21: Like I don't know, I.
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: Don't know, that's why.
- 1:37:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know what a normal number would be.
- 1:37:58Speaker 21: Yeah, I do know that he did a lot of
- 1:38:00Speaker 21: scout team stuff though that was big, And one of
- 1:38:03Speaker 21: the things that he was saying to me was just
- 1:38:06Speaker 21: that it's good because he's going up against the starting
- 1:38:08Speaker 21: defense of the Patriots. He's going up against a really
- 1:38:11Speaker 21: good defense, mostly with practice squad guys and backups at
- 1:38:16Speaker 21: his skill positions, and he's got to go out there
- 1:38:18Speaker 21: and mimic Joe Burrow and make stuff happen and try
- 1:38:21Speaker 21: to make throws on a really good defense.
- 1:38:23Speaker 6: So I think that is good for him.
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: Okay, Mike and Wilmington formerly Bill Ricca rights in. I
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: saw a tweet of this is really a question for Evan,
- 1:38:32Speaker 2: he says, but.
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: Yeah, please be quiet.
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: I saw a tweet of someone who tracked every team's
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: use of motion on offense. Patriots used motion the fifth
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: fewest percentage of offensive plays in motion during the snap,
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: the second fewest. The teams near us were the Browns
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: and the Panthers. I know the Patriots are always near
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: the bottom of the league in motion. Is this purely
- 1:38:55Speaker 2: a personal issue or do our coaches not know how
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: to use motion to get the most out of the offense.
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: Teams like the Chiefs, Dolphins, Niners, use motion on over
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: eighty percent of the plays.
- 1:39:08Speaker 21: Yeah, so the day I saw from Next Gen had
- 1:39:10Speaker 21: the Patriots like more middle of the pack than that.
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:39:13Speaker 21: Sometimes how you classify different types of motions can be
- 1:39:16Speaker 21: different from one person to the other. But they don't
- 1:39:20Speaker 21: major in motion in this offense. They did a little
- 1:39:23Speaker 21: bit more under O'Brien. I would say last year they
- 1:39:25Speaker 21: are like twelfth, I want to say in motion rate,
- 1:39:28Speaker 21: So they have done it a little bit more in
- 1:39:29Speaker 21: the past. I think the biggest thing is that if
- 1:39:32Speaker 21: you're going to motion, then you want the motion to
- 1:39:35Speaker 21: have a purpose. You don't want to just motion for
- 1:39:37Speaker 21: the sake of motioning. And I think sometimes certain coaches
- 1:39:40Speaker 21: believe that as much as it can cause issues for
- 1:39:43Speaker 21: the defense, it almost causes as many issues for the
- 1:39:46Speaker 21: offense if you're not quite buttoned up on everything that
- 1:39:50Speaker 21: you're doing. So I'm a big fan of motion, especially
- 1:39:53Speaker 21: in the run game, because I think it creates angles
- 1:39:56Speaker 21: and it creates numbers to certain size of the formation
- 1:39:59Speaker 21: in the run game. And then obviously if you show
- 1:40:01Speaker 21: the same motion, then that can be eye candy to
- 1:40:04Speaker 21: the defense on play action to sequence those things together
- 1:40:08Speaker 21: that oh, here comes that motion again, that means they're
- 1:40:10Speaker 21: probably running this run play. Oh actually no, now it's
- 1:40:12Speaker 21: play action. So those are ways that you can kind
- 1:40:14Speaker 21: of dress up plays for play.
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: It's also a way for the quarterback to see how
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: the defense reacts.
- 1:40:20Speaker 6: Yeah, Like pre snap shifting is big with that.
- 1:40:23Speaker 21: The Patriots with Brady used to do that all the time,
- 1:40:25Speaker 21: where they'd shift Edelman from one side to the other.
- 1:40:27Speaker 21: If somebody follows him, it's probably man to man coverage.
- 1:40:30Speaker 21: If somebody doesn't and you kind of bump over, then
- 1:40:33Speaker 21: it's probably zone coverage. But defenses have actually wised up
- 1:40:36Speaker 21: to that. And the Patriots did this a couple of
- 1:40:39Speaker 21: times on Sunday where they put Gonzales on Chase in
- 1:40:42Speaker 21: the slot and then played zone out of it. So
- 1:40:44Speaker 21: that would normally be a man to man indicator for
- 1:40:47Speaker 21: the defense because like Gonzales traveling into the slot with
- 1:40:50Speaker 21: Chase and then they would drop out and play cover
- 1:40:53Speaker 21: two And I think that confused Burrow a little bit.
- 1:40:55Speaker 21: So defenses have kind of caught up to that chess
- 1:40:57Speaker 21: match a little And.
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: To Paul is still Mike and Wilmington before. But this
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: doesn't feel any different than previous Bill offenses post Brady
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: just fewer penalties than I expected.
- 1:41:11Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, I would kind of the one thing that
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: really stood out to me from a positive aspect is
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: the penalties, Like every day in practice, you know it
- 1:41:25Speaker 4: was it was a false start fest and there was
- 1:41:28Speaker 4: I think one. I think Vederian logo called for one
- 1:41:31Speaker 4: false start, so that to me, they cleaned that up.
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: That was a really good sign.
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: Eight five five past five hundred is the TPX hotline.
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: Justina is in North Carolina. I hate Justina.
- 1:41:44Speaker 13: It's me or Dan. I just wanted to just say
- 1:41:48Speaker 13: that I'm not convinced about and I think Mayo was
- 1:41:56Speaker 13: singing and talk about you want us to get three
- 1:41:58Speaker 13: hundred yards. So he's trying to be podcasting about evidence
- 1:42:03Speaker 13: because evidence said that they didn't get enough passing yard.
- 1:42:06Speaker 13: And I also that T shirt with Tennessee t shirt.
- 1:42:12Speaker 13: I think they're trying to make fun of, you know,
- 1:42:15Speaker 13: playing at add team which Duced himself said oh that
- 1:42:20Speaker 13: he felt that day wasn't gonna be as good because
- 1:42:26Speaker 13: he from he just he faced some bad defensive league
- 1:42:30Speaker 13: and I kind of wish people would stop judging him
- 1:42:33Speaker 13: by the league he came from the Fighters, challenge yet
- 1:42:38Speaker 13: and I'm just not convinced that that Jacobe was the
- 1:42:42Speaker 13: one the one yet because he yeah, he said, he said,
- 1:42:48Speaker 13: I will I load the protoplay and I get dunk
- 1:42:52Speaker 13: and and and run and in the run play he did.
- 1:42:55Speaker 13: He he said he learned from other quarterbacks where he's
- 1:42:57Speaker 13: learned from his quarterback on his team right now, Drake
- 1:43:00Speaker 13: may Jack Raggy knows those things. Jakhobe never ran before.
- 1:43:04Speaker 13: What I understand now all of a sudden, he's bunny,
- 1:43:07Speaker 13: but you know, I'm not not yet. And at the
- 1:43:10Speaker 13: same time, I am concerned that if they don't get
- 1:43:16Speaker 13: to get the guy that blocking, that block, that hit
- 1:43:20Speaker 13: that kept hitting hitting and hitting him, he will him.
- 1:43:28Speaker 13: He and Drake would be hurt because that that that
- 1:43:31Speaker 13: guy that uh Kobe got up a little bobbed a
- 1:43:34Speaker 13: couple of times, and I know they need to cover
- 1:43:38Speaker 13: that that end that letting somebody letting the guy get through.
- 1:43:43Speaker 11: Uh.
- 1:43:43Speaker 13: Also, I'm not too happy about the things that that
- 1:43:49Speaker 13: last that was the coach from last year stay about uh.
- 1:43:54Speaker 13: He's been saying about Drake and he's not the first
- 1:43:57Speaker 13: he said it was his footwork and now he's saying,
- 1:43:59Speaker 13: you just doesn't read spirits reading. I hear.
- 1:44:09Speaker 2: Ye, all right, thanks just data, good stuff.
- 1:44:14Speaker 5: Like the coach from last year, the coach from last year.
- 1:44:17Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm gonna start calling him that too.
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:44:20Speaker 14: I didn't I saw what Bill said. I just thought,
- 1:44:22Speaker 14: that's kind of what anybody's been telling us. I mean,
- 1:44:24Speaker 14: that's what Brady kind of said. I mean, it's what
- 1:44:26Speaker 14: did Bill say. It's just that he's got a long
- 1:44:28Speaker 14: way to go, and he needs to work on his
- 1:44:29Speaker 14: footwork and.
- 1:44:32Speaker 6: Talent with Patricia.
- 1:44:34Speaker 8: The thing from a couple of weeks ago. Okay, it
- 1:44:36Speaker 8: was last week.
- 1:44:37Speaker 4: I got to be honest with you. I didn't catch
- 1:44:39Speaker 4: most of that. Well, it was a tough connection.
- 1:44:42Speaker 2: Calling from the State Fair, so there was a lot
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: going on in the background.
- 1:44:45Speaker 8: Yeah, so you guys will have to fill in some
- 1:44:47Speaker 8: of the blanks after the show.
- 1:44:49Speaker 21: Okay, but bo Nicks is ready to play two picks
- 1:44:52Speaker 21: worst quarterback in the league in Week one. He's ready
- 1:44:55Speaker 21: to play Drake May two years away.
- 1:44:57Speaker 6: Two years away. Good stuff to It's tough. Long way
- 1:45:01Speaker 6: to go, Mike, long way to go.
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: Let's go to Nate in the northern eastern Pennsylvania. Various
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: northeastern Pennsylvania. What's Nate? What up? Deuce?
- 1:45:16Speaker 5: I got something for you, Thank God Jesus sitting here
- 1:45:19Speaker 5: it's boring.
- 1:45:20Speaker 22: Now I'm gonna put your mind in a blender with
- 1:45:22Speaker 22: the pronunciation of one of our players names. Okay, okay,
- 1:45:25Speaker 22: And the only reason I'm picking on you is because
- 1:45:27Speaker 22: of the age old Chandler versus sham. I don't know
- 1:45:32Speaker 22: if you've caught during the broadcast this past week, but
- 1:45:34Speaker 22: I think it was Iron Eagle who josh josh Ja
- 1:45:39Speaker 22: now wants to be.
- 1:45:40Speaker 4: Known as josh Oh. I know it's actually Joshua, Joshua,
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: mister Joshua. Yes, that's something that came out very early
- 1:45:46Speaker 4: in the off season.
- 1:45:47Speaker 5: Yeah. Correct. If you notice in my writing he's always
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: referred to as Joshua.
- 1:45:50Speaker 8: Correct.
- 1:45:51Speaker 22: Ye all right, good, as long as you know, I'm sorry,
- 1:45:54Speaker 22: I didn't know.
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: You already knew this.
- 1:45:55Speaker 5: Yeah, pr photos to that.
- 1:45:56Speaker 4: We have to know that because we can't, you know,
- 1:45:59Speaker 4: can't yeh, can't have any missteps?
- 1:46:01Speaker 8: Joshua.
- 1:46:02Speaker 22: There you go?
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: All right?
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: Can I can?
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: I can?
- 1:46:06Speaker 13: I can?
- 1:46:06Speaker 5: I give a little bit of nonsense.
- 1:46:07Speaker 14: I just can't stop thinking about this, and I might
- 1:46:09Speaker 14: regret saying this right now, but like my nonsense, we
- 1:46:11Speaker 14: had a call from Greece, and then we had a
- 1:46:13Speaker 14: woman named Helen call, so it was like the Trojan
- 1:46:15Speaker 14: warring here, like Helen, Troy and Grease.
- 1:46:16Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:46:17Speaker 5: I just that I can't tell not as good as
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: your normal nonsense. But yeah, I'm sorry, I don't know
- 1:46:22Speaker 5: what it is. But I was just like, Wow, that's weird,
- 1:46:25Speaker 5: and that's what we need. Was there an Achilles calling
- 1:46:28Speaker 5: or what's going on?
- 1:46:29Speaker 4: Probably not.
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: I had a more would just be silly. I had
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: a more inappropriate joke that I said during the break,
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: but I can't repeat it. Let's see little trivia ready,
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: Oh nice Patriots trivia with the upcoming Seahawks game one.
- 1:46:47Speaker 2: Don't look, I couldn't read it. What is the Seahawks
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: record at Jillette Stadium?
- 1:46:55Speaker 5: They won the last one?
- 1:46:56Speaker 21: Yeah, I remember that they lost in four. Dude, I'll
- 1:47:01Speaker 21: say at to Lette Stadium. At stadium, I'm going to
- 1:47:06Speaker 21: say I was just one and two.
- 1:47:08Speaker 5: I'm going to say one and one and one is correct.
- 1:47:11Speaker 6: I didn't know if there was one back in the day.
- 1:47:13Speaker 8: I didn't know about So they lost, Yeah, they lost
- 1:47:16Speaker 8: the last one.
- 1:47:17Speaker 4: It was a night game.
- 1:47:18Speaker 5: Like off a by second play fifteen, I want to say, yeah, and.
- 1:47:21Speaker 8: Then they the Patriots one. I want to say in
- 1:47:24Speaker 8: like three, I.
- 1:47:26Speaker 5: Think Brady on his on his butt through a pass
- 1:47:29Speaker 5: in that game.
- 1:47:30Speaker 4: I think I don't recall that. I remember him something
- 1:47:32Speaker 4: to pass from his butt against Cincinnazi.
- 1:47:34Speaker 8: Maybe that was the different one.
- 1:47:37Speaker 4: I want to say, a Matt Hasselbeck led Seahawks team
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: in a reasonably high scoring affair.
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: Okay, yep, I watched that one. You remember the cover
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: for PFW.
- 1:47:47Speaker 8: No, no, it wasn't bad Kitty. You could have had
- 1:47:51Speaker 8: bad Kitty this week.
- 1:47:52Speaker 4: I could have, and they when they beat the Bengals
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: and Fred putt, I mean, the Bengals beat the Patriots
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: the opener in one and it was bad bad kitty
- 1:48:03Speaker 4: with the Bengal.
- 1:48:03Speaker 6: On today's day in age does not mean the same
- 1:48:07Speaker 6: thing as Freddy.
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: Freddy has a lot of really really cool covers under
- 1:48:12Speaker 4: his belts.
- 1:48:12Speaker 8: That just wasn't one of them. And Indy and I
- 1:48:14Speaker 8: have been busting his balls about it ever since.
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: So personal take, you know, like you couldn't see like
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: personal preference.
- 1:48:20Speaker 5: He cat whipped And there it is.
- 1:48:24Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:48:25Speaker 2: The overall regular season record between the Patriots and Seahawks
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: is ten and eight. Who has the most.
- 1:48:30Speaker 5: Wins Seattle, New England?
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: They've been bad, I'll say the Patriots, Patriots, Seahawks.
- 1:48:40Speaker 2: And finally, how many touchdown passes did Brady have in
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: that Super Bowl game? For four?
- 1:48:50Speaker 6: Corrected? Who is the fourth one.
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: Man? The other guy Monk Edelman?
- 1:48:59Speaker 14: And yeah, still that from like the behind shot in
- 1:49:05Speaker 14: the end zone and it's just like a sea of
- 1:49:08Speaker 14: hands and like the ball.
- 1:49:09Speaker 6: Just like I think he hits the same exact points
- 1:49:12Speaker 6: to Josh.
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the go ahead, game winner.
- 1:49:17Speaker 21: Game winner I think they throw to a doola is
- 1:49:20Speaker 21: the same one as the championship games against Jacksonville.
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: Uh, Corey in Boston. Do you guys think Jacoby's performance
- 1:49:29Speaker 2: last Sunday against the Bengals could help solidify the Patriots
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: winning formula with his mobility throughout the course of the season.
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 1:49:40Speaker 4: I do think he played pretty well for the most part.
- 1:49:44Speaker 4: But no, I don't think a lot of his mobility
- 1:49:48Speaker 4: was escaping sacks. I don't think that's a good for success.
- 1:49:52Speaker 21: Yeah, his sack avoidance and just like overall managing of pressure.
- 1:49:57Speaker 21: It's hard to not have that kind of pressure become
- 1:50:00Speaker 21: catastrophic to the offense, and he avoided the catastrophic mistakes.
- 1:50:05Speaker 21: But I do think he's getting a lot of credit
- 1:50:07Speaker 21: for that. Yeah, and you know, there were some throws
- 1:50:11Speaker 21: I felt like he missed in the game that he's
- 1:50:12Speaker 21: not getting dnked for necessarily. But he did do a
- 1:50:16Speaker 21: really good job like that. Some young quarterbacks you put
- 1:50:19Speaker 21: them in a fifty percent pressure rate like that, and
- 1:50:22Speaker 21: there you're gonna have three turnovers, you know, no sweat.
- 1:50:25Speaker 21: So the fact that they didn't turn the ball over
- 1:50:27Speaker 21: like crazy is impressive.
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: Okay, I would agree more postgame suggestions. Big fan of
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: the show. Really appreciate the guys keeping us in formed,
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: especially for those of us that have the misfortune of
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: leaving New England. On the topic of the postgame show,
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: please he has some capital letters. Cool it with the
- 1:50:48Speaker 2: mid show fan calls. I know Paul already mentioned it
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: on the pod, but it really disrupted the flow of
- 1:50:55Speaker 2: the conversation. Love my Patriots fans out there, but I
- 1:50:58Speaker 2: tune in to hear your valuable insight. Not to here
- 1:51:02Speaker 2: fellow fans ask the same five questions. No shade to
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: Matt Smith. He seems like a fine, fellow, but that's
- 1:51:09Speaker 2: definitely an adjustment worth making as the season progresses.
- 1:51:13Speaker 4: No, it's not we're going to take calls and we're
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: going to have interaction with the fans every week.
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: Well, I think the timing of it is what he's
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: talking about. Like I said mid show, don't don't interrupt
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: your conversation to do it, like if you're in a flow.
- 1:51:26Speaker 6: If you're in a flow and.
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: I see what he's saying, I I think I respect that.
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: I wasn't. I didn't listen that closely.
- 1:51:31Speaker 4: So the only my only think, like, we have segments
- 1:51:34Speaker 4: in the pre and post game show that I think
- 1:51:37Speaker 4: should run like when we were when we were doing
- 1:51:39Speaker 4: the keys to the game. Yeah, we shouldn't do two
- 1:51:42Speaker 4: keys to the game and then take a call and
- 1:51:43Speaker 4: then do two more keys of the game. We're doing Good, Bad,
- 1:51:46Speaker 4: the Injured. We do that until we're done. Yeah, and
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: that basically is that's a good forty five minutes like
- 1:51:52Speaker 4: the Good, the Bad, the Injured. I would say that
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: I agree with the emailer on that we should, but
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: everybody but he has a voice.
- 1:52:01Speaker 2: I think it's important after games to let people vent,
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: either either celebrate or vent.
- 1:52:06Speaker 4: I think it's hugely important, especially in postgames.
- 1:52:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean why we're here. We're here as a service.
- 1:52:12Speaker 14: Yeah, maybe I'm misinterpreting him, but because I felt sometimes
- 1:52:15Speaker 14: like we were starting to get into a little thing
- 1:52:16Speaker 14: and then we kind of broke it up to go
- 1:52:18Speaker 14: to calls.
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: You know, maybe that's what he meant.
- 1:52:19Speaker 14: Where it wasn't necessarily just taking calls in general, but
- 1:52:21Speaker 14: it's if you feel like a flow is kind of
- 1:52:24Speaker 14: starting and you're in a rhythm with something, don't break
- 1:52:26Speaker 14: it up for the college.
- 1:52:27Speaker 4: Okay, maybe that's what he was talking about. We'll yell
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: at Matt later.
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: Jordan Hawaii. I know this is turning the page day. However,
- 1:52:36Speaker 2: I want to go back to week one to discuss something.
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: How do you guys feel about the other rookie quarterbacks
- 1:52:41Speaker 2: as started? Looks like many of them struggled. Does the
- 1:52:45Speaker 2: fact that many of them struggle change your opinion on
- 1:52:48Speaker 2: sitting Drake may or at least validate the team's decision
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: to give him more time to develop. No, it doesn't change.
- 1:52:54Speaker 2: My opinion doesn't change either. I expect these guys to struggle.
- 1:52:59Speaker 5: That's the whole.
- 1:53:00Speaker 4: That's why I want to get it out of your system.
- 1:53:02Speaker 2: Learn from what you can and can't do, make mistakes,
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: you know, learn from doing or not doing. And I
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: would expect all these guys to struggle Peyton. You know,
- 1:53:12Speaker 2: the famous example we use is Peyton Manning. He had
- 1:53:16Speaker 2: more interceptions and you know, than touchdowns his first year,
- 1:53:20Speaker 2: but the Colts knew what they had in him. I
- 1:53:22Speaker 2: think it wasn't a big deal.
- 1:53:23Speaker 14: It's is gonna be interesting to see the progression of
- 1:53:24Speaker 14: these guys because you know, we did this as our
- 1:53:27Speaker 14: topic on PU and there's certainly value from starting and playing,
- 1:53:30Speaker 14: but it only really matters if you're able to get
- 1:53:32Speaker 14: better and improve because if you know these guys, if
- 1:53:35Speaker 14: you know, how do all three of these guys do?
- 1:53:37Speaker 14: I mean, maybe one of them it starts to unravel
- 1:53:39Speaker 14: for him and instead of getting better, it starts to
- 1:53:41Speaker 14: get worse, and you know they're not seeing things and
- 1:53:43Speaker 14: you know then they got to take a time out.
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: So it'll be interesting.
- 1:53:46Speaker 14: There's three of them, so start right out of the gate,
- 1:53:48Speaker 14: see how they progress here in the coming week.
- 1:53:50Speaker 21: I think, and if anything, Jacobe's performance justifies the team's decision.
- 1:53:55Speaker 21: The Patriots decision to go this direction because won the
- 1:54:00Speaker 21: game you know, like, I don't feel like other quarterbacks
- 1:54:03Speaker 21: really have much bearing to me. But if the whole
- 1:54:06Speaker 21: decision was could Jacoby's going to manage the game, He's
- 1:54:08Speaker 21: going to keep them in games and keep them competitive,
- 1:54:11Speaker 21: all Drake gets to one hundred percent already, then if you.
- 1:54:15Speaker 4: Want one, if you wanted to start Drake may because
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: you thought he was going to be the better choice,
- 1:54:23Speaker 4: like go to he's going to be like ready to
- 1:54:25Speaker 4: go right out of the shoot, then I think you
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: probably were wrong. Like the performance by Caleb Williams and
- 1:54:32Speaker 4: Bow Knicks and Jayden Daniels was none of not the
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: least of which none of them surprising at all. Like
- 1:54:40Speaker 4: that's generally how rookie quarterbacks look out of the shoot,
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: unless they're on great teams and are just asked to
- 1:54:46Speaker 4: hand the ball off, you know, like then you can
- 1:54:48Speaker 4: have some success right away. But when you're asked to
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: like carry the offense or be a big part of
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: the offense, that's generally how it looks.
- 1:54:57Speaker 13: C J.
- 1:54:57Speaker 4: Stroud is not how it's supposed to look. That's that's
- 1:55:00Speaker 4: an outlier. Have a guy just come into an offense
- 1:55:03Speaker 4: and lift it almost immediately. Don't be confused by what
- 1:55:09Speaker 4: you see in preseason games, because that's not what you see.
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: Jayden Daniels tried to run all over the place in
- 1:55:14Speaker 4: that game against Washington. Even Dan Quinn has already told
- 1:55:17Speaker 4: him that's not what we want. We don't want, that's
- 1:55:19Speaker 4: not what we're looking for. In the preseason, you can
- 1:55:21Speaker 4: do that. Caleb Williams made a bunch of plays in
- 1:55:24Speaker 4: the preseason, kind of running around street school yard football.
- 1:55:28Speaker 4: He did that and got sacked for a nineteen yard
- 1:55:30Speaker 4: loss by a guy who is probably every bit the
- 1:55:33Speaker 4: athlete that he is.
- 1:55:35Speaker 8: You know what I mean?
- 1:55:35Speaker 4: That wasn't that he wasn't seeing in the preseason. So
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: these guys are going to struggle initially, But that doesn't
- 1:55:41Speaker 4: change my opinion. I think I want Italy Chicago wants
- 1:55:46Speaker 4: Caleb Williams to hit those little passes that he missed
- 1:55:48Speaker 4: the IEH.
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: Here's the question the.
- 1:55:50Speaker 4: Next week, in the weeks going forward and be better.
- 1:55:52Speaker 2: Here's the question to throw back to the email er.
- 1:55:55Speaker 2: If all these guys progress faster than Drake may, does
- 1:55:58Speaker 2: that validate them starting sooner? Like if their progression as
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: a pro comes faster.
- 1:56:05Speaker 4: Basically, so, Mike, you you had like a hypothetical about
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: would you rather make the playoffs with Jacoby Myers, I mean,
- 1:56:10Speaker 4: Jacoby Brissett or not make it with Drake May? And
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: I think that maybe if you had said, you know, so,
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: Jacoby Brissett is probably gonna win a couple more games
- 1:56:22Speaker 4: than Drake May would if he played all seventeen. So
- 1:56:26Speaker 4: would you rather go seven and ten with Perssett or
- 1:56:30Speaker 4: five and twelve with May? Something like that, Then I
- 1:56:34Speaker 4: think you're in a conversation for sure that you could
- 1:56:36Speaker 4: look at and say, well, the benefit of May getting
- 1:56:39Speaker 4: that experience and hopefully learning playing better as the season
- 1:56:43Speaker 4: goes on might be worth a loss or two. As
- 1:56:46Speaker 4: long as I'm not going to make the playoffs, I
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: would rather make, you know, I'll let you speak of
- 1:56:50Speaker 4: because Mic threw this out earlier. I think it'd be
- 1:56:53Speaker 4: hard if you're a Patriots fan, if you said I
- 1:56:54Speaker 4: would rather not make the playoffs than make it regardless.
- 1:56:58Speaker 6: Well, I don't know.
- 1:56:59Speaker 21: I mean, I guess it depends on how it looks
- 1:57:01Speaker 21: like if they don't make the playoffs with Drake May.
- 1:57:04Speaker 21: But he looks like he's the real deal and they
- 1:57:07Speaker 21: just kind of have to build it up better around him.
- 1:57:09Speaker 21: But they make the playoffs, like the Pittsburgh Steelers make
- 1:57:13Speaker 21: the playoffs, where they are just this middling team that's
- 1:57:16Speaker 21: going nowhere.
- 1:57:17Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 1:57:18Speaker 21: I might rather be the Drake may Camp just because
- 1:57:22Speaker 21: he has like a rookie year like Justin Herbert did,
- 1:57:24Speaker 21: where he throws for four thousand yards and he looks
- 1:57:27Speaker 21: the part, but it's just not a good enough situation
- 1:57:30Speaker 21: for them to win a bunch of football games. Then
- 1:57:32Speaker 21: I'm almost more on board with that because the next
- 1:57:35Speaker 21: ten years are looking brighter. Whereas if they make the
- 1:57:37Speaker 21: playoffs at nine to eight with Jacoby Brissett and they're
- 1:57:40Speaker 21: just kind of this middling twenty twenty two to twenty
- 1:57:44Speaker 21: twenty one Patriots team.
- 1:57:45Speaker 4: Yeah, being very specific with that, though, like I, I
- 1:57:49Speaker 4: find it hard to envision the situation that Jacoby Brissett,
- 1:57:52Speaker 4: a nine year journeyman, had enough around him to make
- 1:57:55Speaker 4: the playoffs, but the guy who was playing lights out
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: like Justin Herbert did as a rookie didn't have enough
- 1:58:00Speaker 4: around him to make the playoffs. That's hard for me
- 1:58:04Speaker 4: to envision that. Now, if that happened like that, I
- 1:58:06Speaker 4: could you make a good point. I would rather make
- 1:58:08Speaker 4: the playoffs because now I think May is inheriting a
- 1:58:12Speaker 4: better situation. You know, like Mike Felder is the only
- 1:58:14Speaker 4: one who thinks this way. I know, like Mike taught
- 1:58:16Speaker 4: me this. Mike taught me that it's better to win
- 1:58:18Speaker 4: games than lose them.
- 1:58:20Speaker 5: That's true.
- 1:58:20Speaker 4: You probably should look that up. That's why he's number one,
- 1:58:23Speaker 4: That's why, that's why he's tops.
- 1:58:25Speaker 6: Yeah, so he wants to be the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 1:58:27Speaker 4: Now, he wants to win games. So you create a culture,
- 1:58:30Speaker 4: and you know how you're picking that a structure around
- 1:58:34Speaker 4: Drake may better. That shows that you have a good coach,
- 1:58:36Speaker 4: and it shows you that your GM has picked good players.
- 1:58:39Speaker 4: Like thanks, you're the one who thinks that would be
- 1:58:41Speaker 4: a good thing. Like if Jalen Polk is a good player,
- 1:58:44Speaker 4: that's good. You're the one who thinks that. Thanks Mike Felder,
- 1:58:47Speaker 4: you know, for breaking down football for all of us.
- 1:58:50Speaker 4: All right, Yes, I will be seeing him in about
- 1:58:51Speaker 4: an hour.
