- 0:03Speaker 1: We're all gonna die.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Unbelievable or do I not currently have a pulse? We
- 0:13Speaker 2: are the out of Bounds Show, ESPN one five to
- 0:17Speaker 2: nine The Zone, ESPN one oh five nine The Zone.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I'm supposed to minimize this and do that, and I
- 0:24Speaker 2: just did that. How about that? Out of bounds welcomes
- 0:28Speaker 2: in ESPN College football analyst Tom Lougan Bill. He started
- 0:33Speaker 2: at quarterback for Georgia Tech won a national championship in
- 0:36Speaker 2: Juco on the West Coast. Twenty years plus with ESPN,
- 0:40Speaker 2: he joins us on the Farm Bureau Insurance guest line
- 0:43Speaker 2: brought to you by Elijah Craig Bourbon and your next
- 0:47Speaker 2: GMC Sierra Truck at Fowler Fowler GMC Pearl Brandon. Tom
- 0:52Speaker 2: Lougan Bill, you saw the Elijah Craig golf bag in
- 0:57Speaker 2: the video, didn't you? My man?
- 1:00Speaker 1: I did? You sent me your YouTube video clip when
- 1:04Speaker 1: we were talking about the beer sneak, and I'm like,
- 1:07Speaker 1: that's a pretty cool golf bag there in the background. Man,
- 1:09Speaker 1: I gotta get me a hookop with one of those.
- 1:11Speaker 2: It is sharp, it is sharp. We may have to
- 1:14Speaker 2: send you some, Elijah, Well, we may have to send
- 1:17Speaker 2: you the golf bag or some Elijah craigswag. Speaking of Luke's,
- 1:21Speaker 2: I'm going to Louisville, Kentucky tomorrow to go pick out.
- 1:27Speaker 2: We'll do three barrel picks of Elijah Craig okay, starting Friday,
- 1:34Speaker 2: and then I'll come back on Sunday. So we'll be
- 1:36Speaker 2: bouncing around. I may have to pay Jeff Bram a
- 1:38Speaker 2: visit since he's playing one of our in state schools
- 1:42Speaker 2: first weekend of the on a neutral I think it's
- 1:46Speaker 2: one of the cooler games week one in Nashville. So
- 1:51Speaker 2: and you were you and I were talking about Bram
- 1:54Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago. Hey, do you think that
- 1:57Speaker 2: they would let you drink a beer in a college
- 2:02Speaker 2: football game?
- 2:03Speaker 1: No?
- 2:04Speaker 2: I didn't think so. Yeah, because it was a pro
- 2:07Speaker 2: football thing.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Well, it wasn't even so much it was a pro
- 2:10Speaker 1: football thing. It was. I mean, that has something to
- 2:12Speaker 1: do with it, But I think a lot of it
- 2:14Speaker 1: too is what the what the product is. The product
- 2:19Speaker 1: in that league is about access, everybody being miked up,
- 2:24Speaker 1: transparent y parency, officials, reviews, getting the fans engaged. So
- 2:31Speaker 1: it's I think it was more fitted towards the environment
- 2:34Speaker 1: of what that league is all about and leaning into
- 2:37Speaker 1: all of that. But no, I don't think they'd let
- 2:40Speaker 1: me do that, neither neither in the booth or on
- 2:43Speaker 1: the field.
- 2:46Speaker 2: So when I know, we talked about it last month
- 2:50Speaker 2: that it was great. It kind of went viral. Ours
- 2:52Speaker 2: got our clip got hammered by the way on your ship.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean it's getting it's getting all kinds
- 2:59Speaker 2: of of good views. Did you ever in your career
- 3:02Speaker 2: think that you would drink a beer in a fan
- 3:06Speaker 2: section while you were calling a game?
- 3:10Speaker 1: Lukes, No, never in a million years. And it's funny
- 3:14Speaker 1: you asked me that because several years back, this would
- 3:18Speaker 1: have been like maybe twenty fifteen or so twenty fourteen.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I was a field analyst, you know, for ABC of Me,
- 3:26Speaker 1: Dusty excuse me me, Dave Passion, Greg McElroy, and we
- 3:32Speaker 1: had I don't know if you remember the Taco Bell
- 3:34Speaker 1: Live MOS student section. Yeah, okay, so in every one
- 3:39Speaker 1: of our games, you know, we had to do something
- 3:41Speaker 1: with that as part of the sponsorship. So we're at
- 3:45Speaker 1: Arizona State. I'll send you the video of it. It's
- 3:49Speaker 1: pretty good. Where at Arizona State and I had a
- 3:54Speaker 1: bag of Taco Bell, I think there was probably two
- 3:57Speaker 1: or three different burritos and all of this and.
- 3:59Speaker 2: That, and it.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Was a night game, and it was September, so it's
- 4:04Speaker 1: one hundred degrees and whoever one of our runners was
- 4:08Speaker 1: went and got the taco bell at like three o'clock
- 4:12Speaker 1: in the afternoon.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Oh no.
- 4:16Speaker 1: So I'm in the stands. We're doing We're doing the
- 4:20Speaker 1: you know the promo. We're doing the Livemot's student section
- 4:23Speaker 1: because they issue has a great student seession. And I
- 4:27Speaker 1: happen to be standing next to this kid, and I
- 4:30Speaker 1: have the briedo in my hand. I have it all unwrapped,
- 4:33Speaker 1: the top of it sticking out the whole nine yards
- 4:36Speaker 1: and this kid's next to me and he is hammered,
- 4:43Speaker 1: just lit up. So the guys on the broadcast are
- 4:48Speaker 1: like taunt me. They're like, dude, you won't take a
- 4:50Speaker 1: bite of that burrito because they knew it had been
- 4:52Speaker 1: there all day. And I'm like, of course I will.
- 4:57Speaker 1: So I'm up there and I grabbed the brito. I
- 4:58Speaker 1: think a big old bite out of it, and I
- 5:01Speaker 1: lean over and I look at the kid and I'm like,
- 5:03Speaker 1: you want to bite? And this kid takes the burrito
- 5:07Speaker 1: and takes a massive bite out of it after I
- 5:09Speaker 1: did so. I never thought I would do that in
- 5:14Speaker 1: the stand, let alone drink a beer, that's for sure.
- 5:19Speaker 2: What you know, how a few years ago you're uh oh.
- 5:24Speaker 1: And by the way, real quick, not to interrupt you,
- 5:26Speaker 1: that that chromo on that night, Yeah, got me on
- 5:31Speaker 1: the Taco Bell livemof Student Section Committee for the next
- 5:34Speaker 1: three years.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Are you serious?
- 5:36Speaker 1: Yeah? They loved it. They saw it, and they went nuts.
- 5:39Speaker 1: They contacted my agent. They're like, what can we do?
- 5:41Speaker 1: How can we get them involved? How how can we
- 5:43Speaker 1: do more of this each and every week? And so
- 5:45Speaker 1: they wanted to get creative with it too. So several
- 5:47Speaker 1: weeks later, we're in Iowa State and they've got like
- 5:50Speaker 1: the T shirt potato gun.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 1: So I said to our producer and a break, I'm like,
- 5:56Speaker 1: what if we took a burrito and we put it
- 5:59Speaker 1: in the T shirt gun and we shot it up
- 6:01Speaker 1: into the crowd. And he goes, hey, that's not a
- 6:05Speaker 1: bad idea. Let's test it out in the break first. Okay,
- 6:09Speaker 1: we take this burrito, we shove it down into the
- 6:12Speaker 1: shirt thing, and I'm standing there on field level and
- 6:15Speaker 1: I shoot it and this burrito just blows up into
- 6:21Speaker 1: a gazillion different pieces all over like the first seven
- 6:25Speaker 1: rows of students that I always did. It was great.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Uh, Tom Logan Bill sharing stories on the Out of
- 6:33Speaker 2: Bounds Show, brought to you by an Elijah Craig Old
- 6:36Speaker 2: Fashioned It Taste Italian Kitchen in the Renaissance. Okay, Luke's yesterday,
- 6:43Speaker 2: we did about two and a half hours on Drew Brees.
- 6:47Speaker 2: He's going in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Yeah,
- 6:51Speaker 2: August eighth. And this is a huge Saints market, as
- 6:55Speaker 2: you know, we're two and a half hours away from
- 6:57Speaker 2: New Orleans. Yeah, we have a bunch of people here
- 6:59Speaker 2: who have season tickets or they go down for two
- 7:02Speaker 2: to three games a year. And you know the Saints
- 7:05Speaker 2: pool from Jackson, Mississippi, Gulf Coast and of course all
- 7:08Speaker 2: over Louisiana. And we were talking about how if the
- 7:13Speaker 2: Miami Dolphins clear Breeze.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I've said this on your before. You have Nick Davin's
- 7:19Speaker 1: never in Alabama.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Yeah, think about the impact first of all that Breeze
- 7:23Speaker 2: and Sean had on New Orleans. And as Brees said,
- 7:26Speaker 2: we were able to be a part of the resurrection
- 7:28Speaker 2: of one of America's greatest cities after it was devastated.
- 7:31Speaker 2: And then think about Saban not going to Bama, how
- 7:34Speaker 2: that impacts LSU over the years, Georgia and Mark rickt
- 7:40Speaker 2: Auburn and Gus. I mean, you know, we could there's
- 7:43Speaker 2: a lot of stuff going on here, and uh, it's
- 7:46Speaker 2: just that there's there's the audio of Drew talking about
- 7:50Speaker 2: what went down when he was on the trip to Miami.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Saban was coming off the nine and seven season, so
- 7:56Speaker 2: they weren't bad. They had a ferocious defense. The offensive
- 8:01Speaker 2: line coach there at the time had been Withdrew at
- 8:04Speaker 2: San Diego when he was with the Chargers and he
- 8:06Speaker 2: got to go out on Wayne Heisinga's yacht and have
- 8:09Speaker 2: dinner and all this stuff. And they said that they'd
- 8:11Speaker 2: fly him every year to play golf in Europe. And
- 8:13Speaker 2: then he goes to New Orleans and it's six months
- 8:16Speaker 2: post Katrino and it's totally wrecked and devastated, and so
- 8:19Speaker 2: it's just fashing the impact on New Orleans and Bama
- 8:23Speaker 2: and the ripple effect.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Oh, it's unbelievable, man, I mean it's not and I
- 8:27Speaker 1: mean just the Nick Saban aspect of it. I mean,
- 8:30Speaker 1: you're talking about possibly what is you know, largely considered
- 8:36Speaker 1: the greatest historical run in college football history never occurring.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:41Speaker 1: And that's not to say that somebody else couldn't have
- 8:42Speaker 1: taken the Alagabama job and done a good job and
- 8:44Speaker 1: all of this and that, but I mean, I mean,
- 8:46Speaker 1: that's a massive title wave of history being erased or
- 8:53Speaker 1: being changed. And I've always found that fascinating. And the
- 8:57Speaker 1: fact that the Dolphins wouldn't clear him, and then the
- 9:00Speaker 1: Saints claim and you know what, though, you know, you
- 9:03Speaker 1: kind of always hear like things just work out the
- 9:04Speaker 1: way they're supposed to. It kind of did for all
- 9:07Speaker 1: parties involved, right, no doubt. And then when you get
- 9:10Speaker 1: when you especially at the National Football League level, sometimes
- 9:14Speaker 1: you just get these marriages that were like meant to
- 9:18Speaker 1: be Sean Payton, Drew Brees, the timing of it, Okay,
- 9:22Speaker 1: Bill Parcells and Phil Simms, Bill Walsh and Joe Montana,
- 9:26Speaker 1: the timing of that. Right. The biggest one, maybe of
- 9:30Speaker 1: all time is Bill Belichick. If Drew Bloodstoe doesn't get hurt, Okay,
- 9:37Speaker 1: does that ever even happen? Right, because look at Bill
- 9:41Speaker 1: Belichick's record without Tom Brady awful, right, And so you
- 9:46Speaker 1: just look at all the timing of things that Kurt
- 9:50Speaker 1: Trent Green getting hurt in training camp and Kurt Warner
- 9:53Speaker 1: stepping into a huddle that has Tory holt Oz hakem
- 9:58Speaker 1: Isaac Isaac, Bruce Marshall, fulk Orlando Pace like talk about
- 10:06Speaker 1: everything being set up to succeed. Yeah, right, I mean
- 10:10Speaker 1: just the timing of all that stuff is incredible.
- 10:13Speaker 2: You know, uh, because there would have been so many
- 10:18Speaker 2: more teams go to Atlanta. Luke's from the west, right,
- 10:24Speaker 2: not that Bama would, like you said, Bama may have
- 10:26Speaker 2: landed on a coach that went a couple of times,
- 10:28Speaker 2: but Saban lived in Atlanta, which blocked which blocked anybody else.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I mean even Ole Miss Mississippi State had some Hella
- 10:35Speaker 2: teams under Mullen and Freeze, Yeah, and couldn't get there
- 10:40Speaker 2: because you really, Nick either went eight to no at
- 10:43Speaker 2: that time or seven and one every year, and so
- 10:48Speaker 2: it was that's what you had to do. Whereas there's
- 10:52Speaker 2: been all these years where six and two and five
- 10:54Speaker 2: and three this is before going to nine games this year,
- 10:56Speaker 2: as you know, but six and two and five and
- 10:59Speaker 2: three could could get you.
- 11:00Speaker 1: There, mm hmm.
- 11:02Speaker 2: And so and you think of the East, Like there's
- 11:06Speaker 2: there's teams over there that were like, oh wow, we
- 11:09Speaker 2: could have made it further if Saban hadn't have been
- 11:13Speaker 2: at Alabama. Ohtely if Drew goes to Miami and they win.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, there's no question. I mean that's that's
- 11:21Speaker 1: the And then yo, yo, you look, we talked about,
- 11:25Speaker 1: you know, pairings of coaches and players and the timing
- 11:28Speaker 1: of all things. And then you know you've always heard
- 11:30Speaker 1: me with scheduling. You know, who you play, where you play,
- 11:34Speaker 1: and then when you play them during the season. Those
- 11:36Speaker 1: street things are very real. And I remember when Missouri
- 11:39Speaker 1: came into the Big Twelve in those early years under
- 11:42Speaker 1: Gary Pinkel, and they just had this unbelievable stretch. But
- 11:46Speaker 1: people fail to remember they never played LSU. Yeah, they
- 11:51Speaker 1: never played Auburn. They played Auburn in a championship game
- 11:55Speaker 1: and lost. They only played Alabama one time and that
- 11:59Speaker 1: was in the first year and it was in Colombia
- 12:01Speaker 1: and Alabama hammered them. So like, the scheduling that laid
- 12:04Speaker 1: out for Missouri when they came into the league could
- 12:07Speaker 1: not have been any better. Yeah, Like it was just
- 12:11Speaker 1: and to be honest with you, had that not happened.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Would Missouri be what they are now? What if they'd
- 12:16Speaker 1: come into the league and all of a sudden they
- 12:18Speaker 1: had LSU and Georgia, Alabama, Auburn Tennessee and LSU every
- 12:24Speaker 1: year and then they don't have those successful early years
- 12:27Speaker 1: in the league. Do they become Kentucky? Do they become
- 12:32Speaker 1: you know, some of South Carolina's down years, like would
- 12:36Speaker 1: they be what they are now? I don't know.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Yeah, No, that's a that's a great question. Pinkel another
- 12:42Speaker 2: underrated coach out.
- 12:43Speaker 1: There many absolutely.
- 12:45Speaker 2: That was able to take less and win because I mean.
- 12:50Speaker 1: You know, he and Nick were Nick Saban were on
- 12:52Speaker 1: the Don.
- 12:53Speaker 2: James Kent State Oh yeah, Don James.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and then yeah yeah.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah yeah, thats right. Pinkl and Saban are tied
- 13:02Speaker 2: in with with Don James and that.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Whole yeah family. Then Pinkel ended up being the offensive
- 13:08Speaker 1: coordinator for Don James during those really good Washington years
- 13:11Speaker 1: and that's what got on the Toledo job.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Okay yeah, okay, oh wow Okay. Tom Louganviille, national college
- 13:18Speaker 2: football analyst with ESPN on the Out of Bound Show.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Another topic that we had today was two NFL coaches
- 13:30Speaker 2: that modernized the game. This was this was before you
- 13:34Speaker 2: started at ESPN. But when you started at ESPN just
- 13:37Speaker 2: a few years later, Lukes, you were a big part
- 13:41Speaker 2: of their recruiting, right, yeah, Peak, isn't it cool that
- 13:45Speaker 2: two NFL guys and I know Saban had been at
- 13:48Speaker 2: Michigan State and spent a year at Toledo, but mostly
- 13:50Speaker 2: NFL guys they modernized the college football game. Pete, It's
- 13:54Speaker 2: at Southern cal Nick at LSU, And what did they
- 13:57Speaker 2: do when they got there. They modernized to recruiting and
- 14:00Speaker 2: they modernized the strength and conditioning programs there at the
- 14:04Speaker 2: same time. Think about the impact that's had on college
- 14:07Speaker 2: football the last twenty six years.
- 14:09Speaker 1: So they they what they did is they started treating
- 14:12Speaker 1: recruiting as a year round entity that needed that needed
- 14:20Speaker 1: to be functioning as a pro personnel department. Okay, not
- 14:25Speaker 1: just your nine coaches handling player evaluation and then going
- 14:30Speaker 1: out and having to do it all. They created departments
- 14:33Speaker 1: to weed through all of that stuff before it ever
- 14:36Speaker 1: got to a coach's desk, Right, And I can't tell
- 14:39Speaker 1: you how many guys, there's probably upwards of I don't know,
- 14:46Speaker 1: at least twenty twenty five guys that came out of
- 14:53Speaker 1: the Alabama program that started as student interns, right, come
- 15:00Speaker 1: over break down tape, and then the director of Player
- 15:04Speaker 1: of Personnel would train them, develop them, bring them along,
- 15:08Speaker 1: teach them how to write reports, how to evaluate what
- 15:10Speaker 1: did the coaches want? Blah blah blah. There's at least
- 15:12Speaker 1: twenty to twenty five of those guys right now that
- 15:15Speaker 1: are either directors of Player of Personnel or general managers
- 15:19Speaker 1: for power for programs all across the country, all off
- 15:22Speaker 1: of that same model.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Isn't that incredible?
- 15:26Speaker 1: Then? Nuts?
- 15:27Speaker 2: Did Pete Carroll and Nick Saban walk into two programs
- 15:32Speaker 2: who were dysfunctional at the time, yes, and had not
- 15:36Speaker 2: won when you and I were growing up like they
- 15:37Speaker 2: should have in the eighties and nineties. Well, Seed did well,
- 15:41Speaker 2: they did in the seventies, but in the eighties and.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Even in the eighties they were still a Pac ten
- 15:48Speaker 1: power Okay, yeah they were. Now they started to get
- 15:51Speaker 1: into the Ted Tolder years, Paul Hackett and Larry Smith
- 15:57Speaker 1: and those guys. This is way before Hacket got it.
- 16:00Speaker 1: And then remember John Robinson came back for a second
- 16:04Speaker 1: d And then that was when I'll never forget. I
- 16:08Speaker 1: can tell you the actual game that led to SC
- 16:14Speaker 1: going down into the dumps and up until Pete Carroll
- 16:18Speaker 1: got hired with a fledgling program. Tell you right now,
- 16:23Speaker 1: the Freedom Bowl used to be held in Anaheim, California,
- 16:29Speaker 1: and SC played Fresno State and Fresno State kicked their ass. Now,
- 16:36Speaker 1: on what planet should Fresno State ever be playing with USC? Right?
- 16:44Speaker 2: Never?
- 16:44Speaker 1: And from that game on it was never the same.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Was that when Jeff Tedford was at Fresno.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Yeah, so Jeff Tedford recruited me out of junior college.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I almost went to Fresno. Okay, Trent Dilford was my host. Wow, Okay,
- 17:01Speaker 1: you want to hear a great Trent dilferd story. Yeah,
- 17:03Speaker 1: but you gotta have it. You gotta have the stomach
- 17:05Speaker 1: for it. Okay, you got the stomach for it. Yes, Okay,
- 17:08Speaker 1: this is a hand of God true story. I just
- 17:12Speaker 1: won the national championship at at Palmer College. I'm taking
- 17:17Speaker 1: my recruiting visits. I had just come off of MC
- 17:20Speaker 1: State and Georgia Tech, and I next up with Fresno
- 17:25Speaker 1: and Fresno had just had that three year run with
- 17:30Speaker 1: Trent Dilfer. Lorenzo O'Neill all of those dudes, and they
- 17:35Speaker 1: were really good. So at that time my dad, San
- 17:38Speaker 1: Diego State teams BYU and Fresno were like the three
- 17:42Speaker 1: big programs in the in the whack at that time.
- 17:46Speaker 1: And so I'm taking my visits Fresno State. And really
- 17:49Speaker 1: the only reason I didn't go was because now you know,
- 17:52Speaker 1: Trent was leaving and going off to the NFL, but
- 17:54Speaker 1: they were losing all five of their starters in the
- 17:56Speaker 1: offensive line. And so Jim Sween, he's the head coach,
- 18:01Speaker 1: legendary head coach, Jeff Tedford's the offensive coordinator. And I'm
- 18:06Speaker 1: on my official visit. Now we all know what happens
- 18:09Speaker 1: on official visits, right, I mean, if you've played this game,
- 18:12Speaker 1: if you've been around it, that forty eight hours.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Is one hell of a good time, no doubt.
- 18:16Speaker 1: So Trent Delver and I are at a TGI Fridays
- 18:21Speaker 1: at about two in the morning in present and we've
- 18:26Speaker 1: all had too much to drink, sure, and I'm supposed
- 18:32Speaker 1: to have breakfast with coach Sweeney that next morning at
- 18:38Speaker 1: like eight am before I head out, and we're at
- 18:41Speaker 1: the bar and Trent Dilver is leaning against the bar
- 18:45Speaker 1: like this. Now he's got a bottle in his hand
- 18:48Speaker 1: right here. Okay, I'm standing right here sideways to him.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I can't see that he's got this bottle in his hand,
- 18:56Speaker 1: but he's got a bottle in his other hand. So
- 18:59Speaker 1: I nudge him on the show. I said, hey, Trent,
- 19:00Speaker 1: can you get me a beer please? He picks up
- 19:03Speaker 1: this bottle. It's about half full. He goes, sure, man,
- 19:06Speaker 1: here you go, hands it to me. I think he's
- 19:09Speaker 1: just gotten it from the bar tap and I take
- 19:13Speaker 1: it and I turn it back, take about two to
- 19:16Speaker 1: three big gulps, and it was his spinner.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Oh god.
- 19:24Speaker 1: And I've never been the same if somebody opens a
- 19:29Speaker 1: can of coke or skull or whatever. If somebody opens
- 19:32Speaker 1: a package of red Man and I even get a
- 19:34Speaker 1: whiff of it, it is full blown, full body shiver,
- 19:39Speaker 1: gagging the whole nine yard.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Oh God.
- 19:43Speaker 1: So fast forward to maybe his like fourth year with
- 19:50Speaker 1: Tampa Bay or what have you, and to be down
- 19:53Speaker 1: at training camp because we were doing it at the time.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I was in NFL Europe and we're doing something at
- 19:58Speaker 1: training camp and my Miami and Tampa are having a
- 20:01Speaker 1: joint practice, and I happened to just be walking towards
- 20:04Speaker 1: the field and across the way it's Trent Dill for walking.
- 20:08Speaker 1: And he turns and he faces me. Now I hadn't
- 20:10Speaker 1: seen him in person since this occurred. He looks at me,
- 20:16Speaker 1: he goes, that is great. No, it was not great.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Well, no, it wasn't great. It's a great story. It's
- 20:30Speaker 2: a great story. So you know that was what you
- 20:35Speaker 2: didn't want to do in college when you were at
- 20:38Speaker 2: a college apartment party or whatever. Yeah, and there were
- 20:42Speaker 2: beer cans or bottles all out on the table or whatever. Yeah,
- 20:47Speaker 2: you had to be careful with two things. Yeah, a
- 20:50Speaker 2: spit bottle or can or somebody putting cigarette butts. Oh.
- 20:57Speaker 2: I mean that's what you had to navigate at that
- 21:00Speaker 2: and you did that at uh. I bet that next
- 21:02Speaker 2: morning was tough meeting with the I mean, granted you
- 21:05Speaker 2: were we were all young and in great shape and
- 21:09Speaker 2: all that, but.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Damn I was green. Yeah. That was not an overly
- 21:13Speaker 1: enjoyable uh uh breakfast. And then I and I and
- 21:17Speaker 1: I remember a couple of weeks later, Presno's in Hawaii.
- 21:21Speaker 1: They're playing in the old Lohappole and I my dad
- 21:26Speaker 1: made me, when I made my decision, he made me
- 21:28Speaker 1: call each one of the head coaches and the area
- 21:30Speaker 1: coaches that were coaching me and tell them over the phone,
- 21:33Speaker 1: which is not an easy thing to do obviously. And
- 21:36Speaker 1: and Jim Sweeney, who is a highly volatile head coach,
- 21:40Speaker 1: like he's he was old school. He was Frank Cush
- 21:43Speaker 1: you know wood you hate like that type of personality.
- 21:46Speaker 1: I'll never forget I'm on the phone with him. This
- 21:49Speaker 1: is before cell phones. So my dad's standing in the
- 21:52Speaker 1: doorway of our home and Jim Sweeney is just amth
- 21:57Speaker 1: and me. I mean, he is into me. And I
- 22:02Speaker 1: pulled the phone away, and my dad's standing there and
- 22:04Speaker 1: he can hear him. And he's known him for thirty years, sure,
- 22:07Speaker 1: so he can hear him. He goes, he's just shaking
- 22:10Speaker 1: his head. He's like, that's Jim.
- 22:11Speaker 2: That's Jim.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Yeah, that's Jim. And he goes, don't take it personally.
- 22:14Speaker 1: He goes, You're not the first one, and you ain't
- 22:16Speaker 1: gonna be the last. Uh.
- 22:19Speaker 2: That was good? All right? Real quick, we got thirty seconds.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Who did come down to who were the last two?
- 22:23Speaker 2: Georgia Tech and who Arizona. Okay, at the time they
- 22:27Speaker 2: had the
