- 0:00Hello everyone and welcome back to the Kenny Wallace
- 0:03show brought to you by Jigs, the leader in high
- 0:06performance aftermarket car parts. Remember
- 0:09to go to jigs .com for everything you need and
- 0:13especially big pickup trucks and jeeps. All
- 0:17right, we're going to break down this Dover race. It
- 0:20was fantastic. Danny Hamlin the winner in
- 0:23exciting fashion holding off the great Kyle Larson. The
- 0:28big story at the start of this race was the crowd. I
- 0:32hear you now. I hear you watch. But
- 0:36they got rid of grandstands gang. That's
- 0:40the oldest one in the book that they got rid of these
- 0:43grandstands 10 years ago. So
- 0:45that tells me you're old. Hey,
- 0:48I don't care if they got rid of grandstands 10 years
- 0:50ago. We're not like the old days. So
- 0:53that is what all the media was talking about at the
- 0:57start of this race. Wow. Where did all these
- 1:00Northeast people come from? Why
- 1:02are the why are the grandstands that we have
- 1:04wire? Why do we got so many people
- 1:07here at this NASCAR race at Dover? Come
- 1:10to find out. It's really simple. You
- 1:13take away. So Dover used to have two
- 1:16NASCAR weekends a year and they took one away. It's
- 1:21like Dale Earnhardt Jr. says,
- 1:23I love the NFL because the NFL leaves you wanting for
- 1:27more. We heard Roger Goodell talking
- 1:30about maybe having 19 games a year, but it was just
- 1:33like yesterday. The NFL had 16, but the fans
- 1:37want more. They got to be careful. So
- 1:39NASCAR says, OK, we get it. We're
- 1:41racing 39 weeks out of a year out of 52 weeks. So
- 1:45think about it this way. Race
- 1:48racing in NASCAR every single week is saying, I'm
- 1:53not going to watch this week because they run 39
- 1:56out of 52 weeks. So NASCAR takes a race away
- 2:01from Dover and it makes sense. Grandstands
- 2:04are really crowded now because everybody in the
- 2:07Northeast is missing NASCAR. Hey,
- 2:09remember what I always say? It
- 2:11goes back to that old song. Don't
- 2:14it always seem to go that you don't know what you
- 2:17got till it's gone? They paid paradise, put in a
- 2:22parking lot. So they took that Dover race
- 2:25away and now you'll want it. You'll
- 2:27want it more. All right. Jimmy
- 2:30Johnson. Let's get to Jimmy Johnson right
- 2:32away. This guy is the winningest
- 2:34driver at Dover. It pained me to see this.
- 2:38Jimmy Johnson plugging away, just
- 2:41going laps down. Nothing wrong. And
- 2:44they're doing their very best. They're
- 2:47trying to pump Jimmy up. You
- 2:49know, Fox got the NCAR camera. They
- 2:53got to use it every once in a while. But,
- 2:55you know, listen, Jimmy Johnson, seven time
- 2:58champion. I've said it. I'm
- 3:00not going to belabor the point. It
- 3:02hurt me. It hurt me to watch this.
- 3:05This was Jimmy's very best
- 3:07track. So it's like when they said,
- 3:09where are we going to run you, Jimmy? Where
- 3:11do you want to run? Dover. That's my track. So
- 3:14listen, maybe that team's not that great. But
- 3:17Jimmy did leave NASCAR for several years. We're
- 3:20talking two to four years. He
- 3:22was gone all the while. They're
- 3:25bringing a brand new race car. So
- 3:28listen, that's a tough one. That's
- 3:30a tough one to do. So Jimmy's saying, I need more
- 3:34practice. Well, they just don't have
- 3:36practice. When that coronavirus came out,
- 3:39they realized that the racing is as good with
- 3:43these guys without burning all the fuel and all the
- 3:45tires. And remember, I know we do a
- 3:48lot of complaining, but I'm going to remind you, it
- 3:51was the NASCAR car owners that said, you got to save
- 3:53us money. You got to stop with all this
- 3:55practice. So chew the car owners ass
- 3:58out because they're the ones that said, we're tired
- 4:00of practice. It's costing us thousands and
- 4:02thousands of dollars. And by the time you get to an
- 4:04end of the year, it's in the millions. So
- 4:06the racing is just fine without practice. Jimmy
- 4:09needs it because he's never ran this car. And
- 4:12when you're like Jimmy Johnson and you won seven
- 4:16championships with one of the best teams in the
- 4:19history of NASCAR, you're used to, you know, busting
- 4:21it down. You know, you know, organizing
- 4:24everything. And right now, Jimmy just
- 4:27cannot do that. So Jimmy struggling. That
- 4:30was a big deal. Alex Bowman. Let's
- 4:34talk about that three wide exit off pit road. Alex
- 4:39Bowman upset. He's right at this moment. He's
- 4:42running in the top three. He's
- 4:43got a shop to win the race. Catches
- 4:46everybody in the United States off guard. Yes,
- 4:49United States because social media lit up. Jimmy
- 4:53Johnson said, tell Kyle Larson, my teammate, thanks
- 4:57a lot, buddy. Tell Kyle Larson, my teammate,
- 5:00thanks a lot, buddy. You know, basically Alex Bowman
- 5:04was pissed. Well, then Kevin Hamlin. Here's
- 5:08what's crazy. Alex Bowman's spotter. I
- 5:11raced against this guy. Kevin
- 5:13Hamlin was a good race car driver. And
- 5:15one day Kevin Hamlin, Alex Bowman spotter. He
- 5:19said, I'm out. He quit racing NASCAR. And
- 5:22now he's a spotter. So listen, as a driver, I
- 5:26don't like spotters that talk back to me. Alex
- 5:29just wanted to ditch, you know, my wife has
- 5:32complained to me before and I said, why are you
- 5:35complaining? And my wife has said, Kenny,
- 5:38I'm just venting. So this is what happens. I
- 5:41don't look at Alex Bowman. I
- 5:43don't look at him whining and crying. I
- 5:45look at him, key in the button, venting frustration.
- 5:49This is what happens. Remember
- 5:50when Dale Jr., remember, it was at Dover actually.
- 5:56Remember that movie where the
- 5:58volleyball had put the face on it and, you know,
- 6:02they're on an island by themselves and Hank. I
- 6:05think he says the volleyball is the only
- 6:07person, you're on an island by yourself. You
- 6:10have nobody with you. So you take this volleyball
- 6:13and you make that a person. So
- 6:16remember when Dale Jr. put a volleyball in his race
- 6:19car at Dover and said, okay, I'm out on the
- 6:22racetrack by myself. You all don't want me talking
- 6:24to you. So I got this volleyball. So
- 6:26it was just him and the volleyball. This
- 6:28happened at Dover. Look it up. And
- 6:30this is what Alex Bowman was doing. He
- 6:33was just keying his button. He
- 6:35was venting his frustration. Network
- 6:38TV got ahold of it. They shoot through the spotter,
- 6:41Kevin Hamlin, and all of a sudden it's all this drama.
- 6:45But I'm going to go the other
- 6:46way on this one because I'm a race car driver and
- 6:49I raced in all those NASCAR races. Sometimes
- 6:52you just want to bitch and moan to your wife or your
- 6:55crew members and you just want them to hear you. But
- 6:58Kevin Hamlin comes back and gets in Alex's face, which
- 7:03I didn't like. Okay, if I'm Alex Bowman, now
- 7:07listen, Kevin Hamlin's a good spotter. I
- 7:09get it because he makes $1 ,000 a weekend, whatever
- 7:12they pay him. Airplane fare, food, the whole deal.
- 7:16Spotters good pay and gig. But
- 7:19if I'm Kevin Hamlin, I'm the psychologist. I'm
- 7:22saying, I hear you, Alex, stay digging, buddy. We
- 7:25got a great car. That's all I'd say. Kevin
- 7:28Hamlin jumps back in his ass and says, whoa, what
- 7:30do you expect? Our own teammate, not the
- 7:33racer, focus on your car. And
- 7:35then, of course, Alex Bowman comes back and says,
- 7:38okay, I'll just drive my great race car. So
- 7:40what I'm asking for all of you to listen to is me
- 7:44telling you what it's like in that race car. Everybody
- 7:48else out of the race car, they're in their right
- 7:50mind. Oh, I know what they want. You
- 7:51know, eating my sandwich here on the couch. Oh,
- 7:53he shouldn't have said that. Well,
- 7:55get your ass in that race car and see what it's
- 7:57like. It's a whole different game.
- 7:59It's like telling the guy that
- 8:02strikes out in baseball, hell, I could have hit
- 8:04that. Then you get up there and the
- 8:05ball goes by you 100 miles proud and you're like,
- 8:08okay, I take all that back. Okay.
- 8:13The other big one, TV, Fox TV showing the Alex Bowman
- 8:19fans leaving when Alex wrecks out. So
- 8:22Zane Smith, now here, let me back up. You
- 8:25know how a lot of you don't like bubble Wallace
- 8:28because and I'm not going to go there. Okay.
- 8:32So you don't mind Alex Bowman. No,
- 8:36back up. Kenny, we're done with Alex
- 8:38Bowman. Okay. Can't you see I'm beating
- 8:40my ass. All right. You
- 8:43all like it when bubble Wallace wrecks out right.
- 8:46But you don't like it when he
- 8:49gets wrecked by Zane Smith. So
- 8:51Zane Smith clearly runs in the Bubba, spins him out
- 8:56and takes your driver out. Now
- 8:59you're mad. Now you're not mad above and
- 9:01now you're mad at Zane Smith. You
- 9:03see how that works. So Zane Smith, Zane Smith hits
- 9:08bubble Wallace. He goes down and he takes out
- 9:11William Byron and he takes out the 20 car C bell
- 9:18Christopher Bell. TV goes to the grandstands and
- 9:22shows that the fans leaving TV shows the William Byron
- 9:30fans leaving the racetrack. They're
- 9:32so pissed. This comes into psychology 101.
- 9:36This is like I tell all of
- 9:38you. When you want somebody to hear
- 9:40you remember like I was telling you about the
- 9:42volleyball and William Byron, same thing. William
- 9:47Byron gets wrecked out. You go to your phone right
- 9:50away. I hate NASCAR. You
- 9:52want to vent you want somebody to hear you. You
- 9:55don't hate NASCAR. What it is is your driver got
- 9:57wrecked out. But this whole dynamic here was
- 10:00really interesting. Right. So a lot of you you don't
- 10:04like Bubba. Yeah, you wrecked out until until
- 10:09Zane Smith until you realize Bubba was not the
- 10:13cause. So it had like three prongs
- 10:16of this deal, this wreck. Number
- 10:18one, Zane Smith just runs in the bubble on accident.
- 10:21I'm sure. But
- 10:22still Zane Smith hits him, takes out Christopher Bell
- 10:25and William Byron and then the fans leave the
- 10:27grandstands. I hate NASCAR. But
- 10:32this time it wasn't NASCAR's fault. It
- 10:34wasn't Bubba Wallace's fault. It
- 10:36was Zane Smith. So I just thought that was
- 10:38funny. Respond right here. And
- 10:41then everybody just got on my social media and agreed
- 10:44with me. Yes. Dale Jr. wrecked
- 10:46out back in the day at Teledag on lap five. And
- 10:49we had to sit there the rest of the day. And
- 10:51I told my dad I wanted to leave, but he said no, we
- 10:54got to stay there and watch the race. So
- 10:56are you one of those people respond right here?
- 10:59Are you the type of person
- 11:01that spends three grand? You're
- 11:03there for three days, your driver gets wrecked out in
- 11:06a freak accident on lap three. And
- 11:08you're like, I hate NASCAR. And
- 11:11then the dad goes, oh, we just spent three grand on
- 11:13this trip. We're going to sit here and
- 11:14watch the race. So which one are you? Are
- 11:17you the one that leads right away? Because
- 11:19your guy got wrecked out? Respond
- 11:21right here. Or do you stay and get on
- 11:23your phone right away while you're at the track? I
- 11:25hate NASCAR. All right. And
- 11:32finally, Denny Hamlin just wins this race. And
- 11:36I got to tell you, Denny Hamlin on actions
- 11:40detrimental. I'm going to leave y 'all like
- 11:41this. Denny Hamlin on actions
- 11:44detrimental on Sunday night or Monday said, who was it
- 11:49Babe Ruth that caused his shot? Denny
- 11:52Hamlin on Monday on dirty Mo media said, I'm going
- 11:57to win Dover. Denny Hamlin wins Dover. Denny
- 12:02Hamlin now is that guy you're cheering for. The
- 12:05grandstands at Dover were 50 50. You
- 12:07got to love this guy. He is a chip off the old
- 12:11block. He is another Daryl Walsh. All
- 12:15Denny Hamlin does is run that mouth and win. That's
- 12:20all he does. And I'm laughing because he
- 12:25said, what's Babe Ruth? What
- 12:27did Babe Ruth do? He said, Babe Ruth pointed and
- 12:31then hit a home run. That's
- 12:32where that came from for all of you kids. Years
- 12:35ago, early 1900s, the great baseball player Babe Ruth,
- 12:39they made the candy bar after Babe Ruth was so
- 12:42good. He took any went. He's
- 12:45this old guy pointed out there and they're all like,
- 12:48yeah, yeah. Next pitch. I'm
- 12:50home run. That's where that phrase called
- 12:53Babe Ruth called his shot. Denny
- 12:56Hamlin is now tied for 12th most wins in NASCAR
- 13:00history with with the great Lee Petty. Denny
- 13:04Hamlin says, listen shows respect. Denny
- 13:06Hamlin says, I cannot hold Lee Petty's helmet. I
- 13:11got to say, I think Denny Hamlin's dad. I
- 13:14think Denny Hamlin's dad grabbed his ear and said,
- 13:16son, I don't like you being a smart ass in
- 13:18Victor Lane. Denny Hamlin seems very respectful
- 13:21in Victor Lane. All right. My
- 13:24two stars. I'm going to tell you what
- 13:27Noah Graxin. I mean, what, six Noah Graxin
- 13:32finished six. So here's a guy that's down
- 13:34and out boo. But the fans like Noah Graxin.
- 13:40It was where, you know, Stuart
- 13:42Haas didn't know what to do. He
- 13:43got in trouble last year for something stupid. And
- 13:47I didn't agree with it. But
- 13:49Noah Graxin got in trouble. He
- 13:51was almost black bald. Noah Graxin was almost black
- 13:55bald. Stuart Haas saved his life. And
- 13:58that right there, he finished third at Teledaga
- 14:00last week and was running fourth in the late laps
- 14:03and got six. And then how about Daniel
- 14:05Hammer with colleague racing, a top 10. So
- 14:09those are the two stars. All
- 14:10right, everybody. That's it. Remember,
- 14:13this was the Kenny Wallace show we got. Who
- 14:16do we got coming up? Michael
- 14:18Andretti. We have the, we have the
- 14:20Indianapolis 500 coming up. And
- 14:22we got some really good content coming up. All
- 14:25right, everybody. Remember, we are in podcast form.
- 14:28iTunes, Spotify. This
- 14:30was the quick one. Listen to us on your way to
- 14:33work. And until the next Kenny
- 14:34Wallace show.
