- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. Oh my god,
- 0:06Speaker 1: thank you for the intro. Welcome back to Real Talk
- 0:09Speaker 1: with Mike D. I am Mike D. Okay, alright, alright.
- 0:14Speaker 1: That's going to do it. Sit down, sit down. Alright,
- 0:18Speaker 1: welcome back to Real Talk with Mike D. I am
- 0:21Speaker 1: Mike D. And today I want to talk about why
- 0:25Speaker 1: someday I will be moving to the beach. Everybody knows
- 0:30Speaker 1: how much I love the beach. I've talked about the
- 0:32Speaker 1: beach before. You know, I've talked about the sunsets. I've
- 0:35Speaker 1: talked about the sounds of the waves. I've talked about
- 0:39Speaker 1: wanting to move there. But today, I'm going to tell
- 0:42Speaker 1: you why. Because the truth is, I don't just want
- 0:46Speaker 1: to live at the beach because it's beautiful. I want
- 0:49Speaker 1: to live there because of how I feel when I'm there.
- 0:53Speaker 1: When I think about the beach, I think about peace.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I think about taking a deep breath and not feeling
- 0:57Speaker 1: like the weight of the world. is sitting on my shoulders.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I think about walking along the water with my shoes off,
- 1:04Speaker 1: feeling the sand underneath my feet, hearing those waves crash
- 1:09Speaker 1: and just being able to say, I'm okay. Maybe that's
- 1:14Speaker 1: what I'm really looking for. I'm not looking for a
- 1:17Speaker 1: perfect life. I'm not looking for a life without problems.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I just need a little more peace in the life
- 1:24Speaker 1: I already have. Because you know, life hasn't always been easy.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I've had my struggles. I've had moments where I've questioned myself.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I've worried about money. I've worried about work. I've worried
- 1:37Speaker 1: about the future. I've had days where I felt I
- 1:40Speaker 1: was just going through the motions. I would just get up.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I would go to work. I would pay the bills.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I would take care of responsibilities and do it all
- 1:49Speaker 1: over again. And there's nothing wrong with working hard. There's
- 1:54Speaker 1: nothing wrong with responsibility, but sometimes... You start asking yourself,
- 1:59Speaker 1: is this really how I want to spend the rest
- 2:01Speaker 1: of my life? And that's when I picture the beach.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I picture myself waking up in the morning, getting my coffee,
- 2:10Speaker 1: walking outside, and hearing the ocean. Not because of my vacation.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Not because I've got a week off. But because I
- 2:18Speaker 1: live there. I'm living the dream. And I'm not going
- 2:24Speaker 1: to pretend that that dream is easy, because it's not.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I have responsibilities. I have work. I have bills. I
- 2:30Speaker 1: have people I care about. I can't just throw everything
- 2:34Speaker 1: into a truck tomorrow and say, Adios amigos, I'm moving
- 2:38Speaker 1: to the beach. As much as I might want to.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Because somebody still has to pay the bills. And that's reality.
- 2:45Speaker 1: So I'm taking my time. I'm working towards it. I
- 2:50Speaker 1: want my work to be secure before I make that move.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I want to know that when I finally get there,
- 2:55Speaker 1: I can actually enjoy it. I don't want to move
- 2:58Speaker 1: to the beach and spend every day worrying about money.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I don't want to trade one kind of stress for another.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I want to do it right. I want to earn it.
- 3:07Speaker 1: And that's important to me because when I finally make
- 3:09Speaker 1: the move, I want to be able to look back
- 3:12Speaker 1: and say, I didn't give up. I've worked for this.
- 3:18Speaker 1: And I can already picture the first morning. I wake up.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I walk outside. I smell the ocean. I grab my coffee.
- 3:26Speaker 1: And I walk down to the water. Maybe nobody's around.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Maybe it's early. Maybe the sun is just coming up.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And I just stand there. And I think about everything
- 3:36Speaker 1: it took for me to get here. Every long day.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Every stressful day. Every time I wondered if I was
- 3:42Speaker 1: going to be okay. Every time I thought about giving up.
- 3:47Speaker 1: And then I'd look at the ocean and I'd realize,
- 3:49Speaker 1: I fucking did it. I'm here. I made it. Not
- 3:56Speaker 1: because life suddenly became perfect, but because I kept going.
- 4:00Speaker 1: And then there's a sunset. God, the sunset. There's something
- 4:05Speaker 1: about a sunset over the ocean that makes you stop.
- 4:09Speaker 1: It makes you put your phone down. It makes you
- 4:11Speaker 1: forget about the clock. It makes you realize that sometimes
- 4:14Speaker 1: the most beautiful things in life don't cost anything. You
- 4:19Speaker 1: just have to be there to see them. I want
- 4:23Speaker 1: to sit on a beach at the end of a
- 4:24Speaker 1: long day. watch the sun disappear, listen to the waves
- 4:28Speaker 1: and think, this is exactly where I'm supposed to be.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Maybe I'll have a cold drink beside me. Maybe I'll
- 4:36Speaker 1: have some Kenny Chesney playing. Maybe I'll be sitting there
- 4:39Speaker 1: by myself and honestly, I'd be okay with that because
- 4:42Speaker 1: being alone and being lonely aren't always the same thing.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Sometimes being alone is where you finally find some peace.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And that's something I think I've learned as I've gotten older.
- 4:56Speaker 1: You start realizing that life isn't about having everything. It's
- 4:59Speaker 1: about figuring out what actually matters to you. And for me,
- 5:04Speaker 1: it's family. It's the people I love. It's having meaningful work.
- 5:09Speaker 1: It's being able to take care of myself and the
- 5:11Speaker 1: people who depend on me. It's having something to look
- 5:15Speaker 1: forward to. It's somewhere along the way. The beach became
- 5:19Speaker 1: part of that picture. I don't know exactly when I'll move,
- 5:24Speaker 1: but maybe it'll be sooner than I think. Maybe it'll
- 5:27Speaker 1: take longer. Maybe life will throw something at me that
- 5:29Speaker 1: changes that timeline. But I'm not giving up on that
- 5:33Speaker 1: dream because I believe it's okay to have something you're
- 5:36Speaker 1: working towards. Something that keeps you motivated. Something that makes
- 5:39Speaker 1: you say, I'm not there yet, but I'm getting there.
- 5:44Speaker 1: And that's where I am. I'm not at the beach yet,
- 5:47Speaker 1: but I'm working towards it. I'm trying to get my
- 5:50Speaker 1: work situation where I need it to be. I'm trying
- 5:52Speaker 1: to make sure financially I can handle it. I'm not
- 5:56Speaker 1: trying to make bad decisions because when that day finally comes,
- 6:00Speaker 1: I don't want to look back and regret rushing it.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I want to know I did everything I could to
- 6:05Speaker 1: make it happen. Maybe one day, I'll record an episode
- 6:12Speaker 1: of this podcast from my porch and you'll hear the
- 6:15Speaker 1: ocean in the background and I'll say, remember when I
- 6:19Speaker 1: told you I was going to move to the beach?
- 6:21Speaker 1: And I'll smile because I finally did it. I will
- 6:24Speaker 1: be there. And that's what I'm working toward. A simpler life.
- 6:29Speaker 1: A quieter life. A life where I can appreciate the
- 6:31Speaker 1: little things. A life where after a long day at work,
- 6:35Speaker 1: I can walk down to the water. A life where
- 6:38Speaker 1: I can watch the sunset whenever I want. A life
- 6:41Speaker 1: where I can wake up and say, I'm exactly where
- 6:45Speaker 1: I want to be. Exactly right. I'm exactly where I
- 6:53Speaker 1: want to be. And that's exactly the reason why I,
- 6:57Speaker 1: Mike D, want to move to the beach. And I
- 7:01Speaker 1: will be there. Someday. Hopefully someday soon. But ladies and gentlemen,
- 7:10Speaker 1: that's going to do it for today's episode. I greatly
- 7:14Speaker 1: appreciate you all being here. I appreciate you listening. And
- 7:18Speaker 1: as always, I will see you all on the next episode.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Thank you.
