- 0:07Speaker 1: Everybody. You're very welcome into the Iris series podcast pretended
- 0:09Speaker 1: by er Lingus. Can you believe? It is Week fifteenth
- 0:14Speaker 1: of the NFL season and the Pittsburgh Steeters are not
- 0:16Speaker 1: playing on Sunday for a change. We've got Monday night football.
- 0:20Speaker 1: It's last Tuesday morning football coming up against the Miami Dolphins.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Before we're gonna do it, Before we talk about that,
- 0:25Speaker 1: we're gonna look back and just have a bit of
- 0:27Speaker 1: crack as well, generally, Davog, McKie, Davog, it's good to
- 0:31Speaker 1: have you on here. Man Falchi could yeah, are you
- 0:33Speaker 1: doing what's cracked?
- 0:35Speaker 2: I'm doing okay. It's been a rough couple of weeks
- 0:38Speaker 2: for Steeterers fans. We've got a wealthy r victory on
- 0:40Speaker 2: Sunday and it's good to be back in the victory column.
- 0:44Speaker 2: So happy to be back on talking to their football
- 0:47Speaker 2: with yours truly and then yeah, hopefully on and upwards
- 0:50Speaker 2: from here on.
- 0:52Speaker 1: You know, like it's it's one thing we haven't had
- 0:54Speaker 1: Jimmy on the podcast. We had we as Euler last week.
- 0:57Speaker 1: It has been a rough few weeks. How have you
- 1:00Speaker 1: kept positive because like you know, it's mad. How much
- 1:03Speaker 1: of win can change stuff, isn't it.
- 1:06Speaker 2: It really is. And of course if you've taken the
- 1:08Speaker 2: account of the opponent as well, and it's led us
- 1:11Speaker 2: sort of get a bit of breathing room at the
- 1:13Speaker 2: top of that AFC North the bank is lost in
- 1:15Speaker 2: someday and not snowgain to the Bills as well, so
- 1:19Speaker 2: they're basically out of it. And I'm just you know,
- 1:22Speaker 2: of course, it's it's it's it was difficult to stay
- 1:24Speaker 2: positive for a few weeks there. I mean we were,
- 1:26Speaker 2: you know, up in arms thinking, you know, what's happening
- 1:28Speaker 2: with the offense. You know, the defense just wasn't showing
- 1:31Speaker 2: any sort of promise, and all of a sudden one week,
- 1:34Speaker 2: you know, in Baltimore against a team historically that Steelers
- 1:37Speaker 2: have struggled against in Baltimore, and to come out with
- 1:39Speaker 2: a win, it starts us up for you know, the
- 1:42Speaker 2: end of the season. So it was tough a couple
- 1:45Speaker 2: of weeks. I mean, champled the bit to get back
- 1:48Speaker 2: on to sort of you know, er my agrievances if
- 1:51Speaker 2: you like. But I've been happy to come back on
- 1:53Speaker 2: in the in the cost of win next So yeah,
- 1:55Speaker 2: upwards and honors from here.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Do you know, what I think. I textedoft that Bill
- 2:00Speaker 1: game and I think, like yourself, just a bit just gutted.
- 2:03Speaker 1: And thankfully we're not talking about the glasses half full here.
- 2:10Speaker 1: You know, this is there's still a long way to
- 2:12Speaker 1: go this season. And look, we had to win on Sunday,
- 2:15Speaker 1: got the win, and we can go from there. Before
- 2:17Speaker 1: we look back in that game, we have a lot
- 2:20Speaker 1: of Irish people listening to listen. This is not Steelers related, right,
- 2:23Speaker 1: but we're obviously in a lot of talk about Charlie
- 2:24Speaker 1: Smith playing for the Seeds. The reason I'm saying that
- 2:27Speaker 1: is he's Irish. Do you look at that now over
- 2:29Speaker 1: the last few weeks and wish to you and I
- 2:31Speaker 1: just hope at some point in the future, whether it's
- 2:33Speaker 1: the next five, ten, twenty years, that the Steelers have
- 2:35Speaker 1: an Irish player on their roster.
- 2:38Speaker 2: It's I'm actually so jealous of the New Orleans Saints
- 2:41Speaker 2: because Michael will Fine mccals were looking on Twitter saying, okay,
- 2:45Speaker 2: Charlie Smith has kicked the field goal, and make Twitter
- 2:47Speaker 2: search is just constantly Charlie Smith, Charlie Smith, Charlie Smith.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Hopefully you know we have another lot from your part
- 2:54Speaker 2: of the World and Dot Moore Lord and Quinn who's
- 2:56Speaker 2: coming up the ranks at Marshall. I've been over Marshall
- 2:59Speaker 2: yell and he's kno going to stave in the r
- 3:01Speaker 2: field goes over. I mean he's going to be a
- 3:03Speaker 2: player and a half as well going forward. So these
- 3:07Speaker 2: these laws are sat in the baseline for for future
- 3:09Speaker 2: talents to come through, not only in just the kicking game,
- 3:11Speaker 2: but the put game. I mean, Don Will the Packers
- 3:14Speaker 2: is doing superbly well and you know the other lads
- 3:17Speaker 2: skip the mind McNamee as well. These these laws have
- 3:20Speaker 2: come through that you know, not even the collegiate system,
- 3:22Speaker 2: but you know, coming through and playing their best ball,
- 3:24Speaker 2: and they're doing the country Ireland such a you know,
- 3:27Speaker 2: a proud and and prideful you know, you know, just
- 3:31Speaker 2: putting the foot forward for Ireland. I feel like and
- 3:33Speaker 2: I wish that I was a bit younger, I would
- 3:35Speaker 2: probably take up the reins, but unfortudly that that's that's
- 3:38Speaker 2: pass me value. But who knows.
- 3:40Speaker 1: It was great to see even back a while ago now,
- 3:43Speaker 1: but it was great to see guys like Mark Jackson
- 3:45Speaker 1: go to Pittsburgh and try out. And I have no
- 3:47Speaker 1: doubt that with a number of the names that you
- 3:50Speaker 1: mentioned there, and maybe for people in America or the UK,
- 3:52Speaker 1: Europe listen, then they haven't heard of these names. Maybe
- 3:55Speaker 1: at some point we'll see the Steelers that look to
- 3:57Speaker 1: the Emerald dial in a different capacity in that sense.
- 4:00Speaker 1: But that being said, we got Chris bos Guy is money,
- 4:02Speaker 1: guy is legit. We're gonna hear from coach Tomlin today.
- 4:05Speaker 1: We're also gonna hear from Aaron Rodgers ahead of this
- 4:08Speaker 1: Monday night football game. Before we do that that ag,
- 4:10Speaker 1: let's say jump on our de Lorean and look back
- 4:13Speaker 1: a bit. You know, going into Baltimore is one thing,
- 4:18Speaker 1: going into Baltimore when there's a lot of talk, a
- 4:22Speaker 1: lot of nets around the league. And the Steelers put
- 4:25Speaker 1: it up against the Ravens, and yes, I know it
- 4:29Speaker 1: wasn't easy at the end. It was hard attack stuff.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Towards the end of that game, they won the game
- 4:34Speaker 1: like they won the game, and they found a way
- 4:36Speaker 1: to get back on top of the North. And most crucially,
- 4:39Speaker 1: we see Buffalo defeating Cincinnati. The Browns lose as well,
- 4:45Speaker 1: and you know, you see a lot of discourse on
- 4:48Speaker 1: the internet the minute in regards to you know about
- 4:50Speaker 1: the playoffs and about having, you know, trying to win,
- 4:52Speaker 1: trying to get to the top of your conference. It's
- 4:55Speaker 1: not gonna matter that much if you win your division
- 4:58Speaker 1: and then go out and beat the team this one
- 5:00Speaker 1: more games in the playoffs that you have to get in.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I think right now it's find a way to win,
- 5:04Speaker 1: get in. And certainly last week that looked really really
- 5:07Speaker 1: enjoyable performance in the sense of we finally see DK
- 5:10Speaker 1: have a bit of a monster game if having a
- 5:12Speaker 1: touchdown of course over nearly one hundred and fifty yards
- 5:15Speaker 1: on the day itself, but just guys finally sort of
- 5:18Speaker 1: taking that little step up. And it feels like throughout
- 5:20Speaker 1: that week there was a bit of a wake up
- 5:22Speaker 1: Columnost but then again Rogers, it was obvious he was
- 5:25Speaker 1: taking a bit of time back to get back to
- 5:27Speaker 1: that injury. So far, so good. I loved the Green
- 5:31Speaker 1: Bay esque celebration from Rogers where he went mental. But
- 5:35Speaker 1: an enjoyable game. You must have been very happy watching that.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Do you have a hope again?
- 5:39Speaker 2: How do you feel you know, you know, just like
- 5:43Speaker 2: what was it in the Sopranos that Sylvia who says,
- 5:46Speaker 2: just when you you know you're out, they pull you
- 5:49Speaker 2: back in. That's just freezing. What's going on with the
- 5:51Speaker 2: Steelers Sainteigel. This year we spoke about, you know, you
- 5:54Speaker 2: mentioned a few names are about you know, the AFC
- 5:57Speaker 2: obviously Cincinnati and you know Cleveland's and never thereway, but
- 6:00Speaker 2: this a FC is absolutely up for grabs. I mean,
- 6:03Speaker 2: counsas city's on the ropes. The Chargers haven't looked great,
- 6:07Speaker 2: you know, the Broncos, you know, of course they're they're
- 6:10Speaker 2: they're sitting in the one seed, but they're easily beat able.
- 6:13Speaker 2: The Patriots are under young Drake May. It's wide open,
- 6:16Speaker 2: and I think it's time for you know, a nine
- 6:19Speaker 2: and six, nine and seven, nine and eight teen to
- 6:21Speaker 2: come up and take the reins for the sc and
- 6:24Speaker 2: the Super Bowl. And you mentioned about the game as well.
- 6:27Speaker 2: You know, Aran Rodgers arguably his best game as a Steeler,
- 6:30Speaker 2: I mean over two hundred and eighty yards passing even
- 6:33Speaker 2: a Russian scorer in there as well. He really looked
- 6:35Speaker 2: in command of that offense, and especially on third downs.
- 6:38Speaker 2: You know, we were eight a fifteen on third down,
- 6:39Speaker 2: which is our best the year, I believe. And you
- 6:42Speaker 2: mentioned as well, DC, I mean unstoppable one hundred and
- 6:44Speaker 2: forty eight yards. The Ravens just didn't have an answer
- 6:47Speaker 2: for him all afternoon. And you know, statistically as well
- 6:50Speaker 2: on the defensive side, it was classic Steelers football, like
- 6:53Speaker 2: in the fourth quarter.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Because a week before, like the week before against the Bills,
- 6:58Speaker 1: And this is something we probably after mention as well,
- 7:00Speaker 1: because I know you weren't in the podcast, but you know,
- 7:03Speaker 1: for that Bills team to run through that Steelers defense,
- 7:06Speaker 1: it was an issue. I think that's what kept me
- 7:09Speaker 1: more beast seeing an improvement than that, because it's one
- 7:11Speaker 1: thing improving it on one side of the ball, as
- 7:13Speaker 1: I'm sure you're going to talk about now that that
- 7:15Speaker 1: defense look a lot more at home, even on the run.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Exactly. And you know it came up with the clutch
- 7:21Speaker 2: player the game. You know, the Ravens were driving for
- 7:23Speaker 2: that winning touchdown and you know, all Heismith comes up
- 7:27Speaker 2: with a huge sack on the Ravens on the final
- 7:28Speaker 2: drive and you know that really you know, then the
- 7:31Speaker 2: overturn touchdown late in the game end up being a
- 7:33Speaker 2: big difference. You know, you can have your own opinion
- 7:35Speaker 2: on it. MC personally, I don't think it was a catch.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Maybe it's a beast point of view. But we've had,
- 7:41Speaker 2: you know, those calls go against us in the past,
- 7:43Speaker 2: so Ravens Vaughan's adversuitly just need to suck it up.
- 7:46Speaker 2: But look, we didn't play it perfect. We did make
- 7:50Speaker 2: you know, the big players on the day when it're
- 7:52Speaker 2: moderned most and you know, that's the kind of win
- 7:53Speaker 2: that can define the season. You know, it's been a
- 7:56Speaker 2: really rocky a couple of weeks for us, you know,
- 7:57Speaker 2: as i'vemagined, but we now find ourselves, you know, a
- 8:00Speaker 2: tight grip on that AFC nor if he had another
- 8:02Speaker 2: thing the stretch and ultimately that's all the matters the
- 8:04Speaker 2: stage of the season.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Yeah, before we listen to coach Tomlin here just to
- 8:10Speaker 1: mention that you're talking about that final stretch Caedars Monday
- 8:13Speaker 1: Night Football, Lions, Browns, Ravens. I don't care who you are.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I don't care what team you support or or where
- 8:21Speaker 1: your loyalty lies in this league. The Lions in Detroit
- 8:24Speaker 1: is a hard game. I know they're having a bit
- 8:26Speaker 1: of an up and down season. This is a big,
- 8:28Speaker 1: big game on Monday Night for me. And we'll talk
- 8:31Speaker 1: about this in a second properly, Doug. It's really try
- 8:34Speaker 1: and win free out of the last four or at
- 8:37Speaker 1: least two out of the last four, especially getting a
- 8:40Speaker 1: Brown's game under your belt in AFC Nor would be
- 8:42Speaker 1: crucial because of that extra game against the Ravens in
- 8:44Speaker 1: that sense, but definitely starts this week with a big
- 8:47Speaker 1: game against the Dolphins, an extra day for Stedars fans
- 8:49Speaker 1: to wait for a bit of football. So people are
- 8:51Speaker 1: listening to this on a Friday, I hope everybody is
- 8:53Speaker 1: a great weekend. Before we look at this game and
- 8:55Speaker 1: we give our keys to the game, we're gonna hear
- 8:56Speaker 1: from both coach Tomlin and Stedars quarterback Aran Rodgers the
- 9:00Speaker 1: Iris Shooters podcast presented by aer Lingus.
- 9:06Speaker 3: We talked about activity and productivity and it being a difference,
- 9:10Speaker 3: and those are two guys meant a bit highly productive
- 9:13Speaker 3: at whooping blocks and making tackles in that space with
- 9:16Speaker 3: a high level of consistency, and it was needed as
- 9:19Speaker 3: you battle for blades of grass and the field position
- 9:21Speaker 3: game in games like that. Largely though, I just I
- 9:25Speaker 3: liked everyone's smiling the face of adversity mentality. The environment
- 9:30Speaker 3: was a tough and competitive one. Certainly, the Ravens are
- 9:33Speaker 3: a worthy dance partner, and we're able to get the
- 9:36Speaker 3: job done now as we lean in on Monday Night
- 9:38Speaker 3: football this week. We're excited about Monday Night football at Akashure. Certainly,
- 9:44Speaker 3: the Dolphins are as high as any team in the NFL.
- 9:47Speaker 3: I'll start first with their defense. If you look at
- 9:50Speaker 3: these guys statistically over the last five weeks, man, they're
- 9:54Speaker 3: tops in football. I'm gonna think they're giving up thirteen
- 9:57Speaker 3: point two points per game over that span. Third down
- 10:00Speaker 3: conversion rate is like at thirty one percent. They got
- 10:03Speaker 3: nine turnovers. I think that's second in football, and so
- 10:06Speaker 3: there's some of the very critical statistics that measure how
- 10:09Speaker 3: you're playing. They're checking those boxes and that's why they've won.
- 10:14Speaker 3: They've been the winners of four straight. When you keep
- 10:16Speaker 3: the point total down, you take the ball away, you're
- 10:18Speaker 3: good on third down. I think they're twenty two TD
- 10:23Speaker 3: raid in the red zone, and so they're stingy in
- 10:25Speaker 3: that area as well. They're doing all the things you
- 10:28Speaker 3: need to do to play really good defense. I love
- 10:31Speaker 3: their linebacker tandem, both highly productive instinct football players, volume tacklers.
- 10:38Speaker 3: You better get hats on those guys if you want
- 10:40Speaker 3: to make plays. Not only in the running game, but
- 10:42Speaker 3: just in the perimeter game, et cetera very active tandem.
- 10:47Speaker 3: They leave them on the field quite a bit. They
- 10:49Speaker 3: don't go to dime on third down and things of
- 10:51Speaker 3: that nature like a lot of teams do this time
- 10:53Speaker 3: of year. Twenty and twenty five are gonna be in
- 10:55Speaker 3: the middle of everything. I think they've been really solid
- 10:59Speaker 3: in the secondary. One stay solidified some of their you know,
- 11:02Speaker 3: divisional labor, and I think Maka has been significant in
- 11:05Speaker 3: that regard. He's been playing nickel for them, and they've
- 11:09Speaker 3: got more depth, certainly at safety than they do at
- 11:12Speaker 3: corner and and and Maker's versatility has been an asset
- 11:15Speaker 3: to him. He's done an awesome job as a as
- 11:18Speaker 3: a guy that plays closer to the line of scrimmage
- 11:21Speaker 3: in the nickel position, a guy that blitzes certainly in
- 11:24Speaker 3: base he plays free safety, and there's a hub of
- 11:28Speaker 3: communication and center fielder back there for him.
- 11:30Speaker 4: There.
- 11:31Speaker 3: They got two really good, solid veteran corners who do
- 11:34Speaker 3: a nice job of keeping things in front of them.
- 11:37Speaker 3: They're very aware and instinct players. Raoul has been around
- 11:40Speaker 3: a long time, Jones has been around a long time.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Now.
- 11:44Speaker 3: They're ball guys. You see it. They've taken the ball away.
- 11:48Speaker 3: They hunt the ball via the turnovers and uh, punching
- 11:52Speaker 3: and collective is really impressive, Really impressive by Bradley Chubb's efforts.
- 11:59Speaker 3: You know, I think he missed a significant time amount
- 12:01Speaker 3: of time over the last year or two. He certainly
- 12:04Speaker 3: appears to have found his footing. He's a challenge for
- 12:08Speaker 3: us in terms of the edge rush, particularly with some
- 12:11Speaker 3: instability that we have at tackle. It's gonna be a
- 12:14Speaker 3: challenge minimizing his impact on the game. But but Chopp
- 12:18Speaker 3: is a designated rusher Judon They they've got a quality
- 12:22Speaker 3: edge group, and certainly they got some capable guys inside
- 12:27Speaker 3: as well. On the offensive side of the ball. I
- 12:30Speaker 3: can't say enough about a Chain and their running game
- 12:33Speaker 3: and and how they've been playing behind that over the
- 12:36Speaker 3: course of the last month or so. When they've been
- 12:38Speaker 3: on that win streak. Even last week with Wright, they
- 12:43Speaker 3: were able to do similar things that they've done. Uh,
- 12:46Speaker 3: they've really anchored down and established a personality there. The
- 12:49Speaker 3: offensive line is running off the ball. Uh, they're certainly
- 12:52Speaker 3: capable of tacking you vertically down the field. Still, Waddle
- 12:56Speaker 3: is a dangerous guy. He's capable of going over the top,
- 12:59Speaker 3: He's capable of run after Waller In, particularly in the
- 13:05Speaker 3: red zone, is a force to be reckoned with. He's
- 13:07Speaker 3: a big body guy, He's good along the inline and
- 13:10Speaker 3: so forth in that space, and he's certainly been an
- 13:14Speaker 3: asset to him over the second half of the year
- 13:18Speaker 3: since his acquisition and activation been a central component of
- 13:21Speaker 3: what they do. They utilize a lot of people, They
- 13:25Speaker 3: utilize a lot of personnel groups that work to keep
- 13:28Speaker 3: you off balanced that way. They got a veteran offensive staff,
- 13:31Speaker 3: know a lot of guys on the offensive side of
- 13:33Speaker 3: the ball, and so certainly we'll be utilizing the additional
- 13:37Speaker 3: time to prepare ourselves, not only strategically, but also just
- 13:41Speaker 3: getting really familiar with their personnel, who has been a
- 13:45Speaker 3: number of years since we've seen these guys, And certainly
- 13:49Speaker 3: I'll take the additional day to get familiar with that
- 13:52Speaker 3: component of the matchup as well.
- 13:56Speaker 4: Now he had sitting back in August, you wanted one
- 13:58Speaker 4: more shot at it. The games like Sundays and what
- 14:02Speaker 4: you're going to play the rest of the way. Is
- 14:03Speaker 4: that kind of the whole point of it.
- 14:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, it's been a couple of years since
- 14:06Speaker 5: I played in you know, meaningful games in December, so
- 14:09Speaker 5: that's why we play. Obviously, you play to win championships,
- 14:13Speaker 5: but you got to be in position and playing the
- 14:15Speaker 5: right way late in the season. So it's good to
- 14:18Speaker 5: be a part of a big time game last Sunday
- 14:21Speaker 5: and the rest of these will all be the same.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Thomas, would you relish this? Does that manifested anyway? But
- 14:29Speaker 4: it wouldn't maybe in October game. No.
- 14:32Speaker 5: I mean they're all important, they're all counts the same.
- 14:33Speaker 5: I mean, two point win at the Jets Week one
- 14:37Speaker 5: looks pretty good, and I think I said that after
- 14:39Speaker 5: the game. You know, I went against New England. The
- 14:42Speaker 5: way they're playing, they haven't lost on don and things
- 14:44Speaker 5: since we beat them, So those are important games that
- 14:49Speaker 5: helped you out come December. Aaron, what did you see
- 14:51Speaker 5: from your teammates as far as stepping up to the
- 14:53Speaker 5: minor the one Sunday? I just felt like we played
- 14:57Speaker 5: our game. You know, we were aggressive early on, We
- 14:59Speaker 5: get some shots. K had a you know, some splash plays. Obviously,
- 15:02Speaker 5: when he's making plays like that, we're a better football team.
- 15:05Speaker 5: Getting him involved in the first play wasn't exactly the
- 15:08Speaker 5: play call, but I kind of felt when he told
- 15:10Speaker 5: me he was thinking about that play Saturday night that
- 15:13Speaker 5: I was hoping for a certain coverage so I could
- 15:16Speaker 5: give him a shot in the first play of the game.
- 15:17Speaker 5: You get us going, and they gave us the coverage
- 15:20Speaker 5: I was hoping for, and DK ran a great route
- 15:21Speaker 5: and I put the ball in a good spot.
- 15:23Speaker 6: You've talked a lot about You've talked a lot about
- 15:25Speaker 6: it's in large part because of Mike Ti and what
- 15:28Speaker 6: did you see or what did you learn about him
- 15:30Speaker 6: in the way that he kind of responded and handled
- 15:32Speaker 6: the lockerroom last two weeks especially, No.
- 15:34Speaker 5: He's been the same, you know, he's he hasn't changed
- 15:36Speaker 5: at all. You know, his meetings are for anybody like
- 15:41Speaker 5: myself or Adam coming in or Marquez. You know, it's
- 15:44Speaker 5: it's pretty eye opening him Wednesday, Thursday and Friday get
- 15:47Speaker 5: in front of the team and talking for you know,
- 15:49Speaker 5: thirty plus minutes every single day, and the way that
- 15:51Speaker 5: he leads without any notes, and his preparedness every single week,
- 15:56Speaker 5: and the way he you know, keeps it tight, tight
- 16:01Speaker 5: grasp with the pulse of the team and the energy
- 16:03Speaker 5: of the team makes my job a lot easier, is
- 16:06Speaker 5: it rare to have.
- 16:07Speaker 6: A coach that can be as steady and is kind
- 16:09Speaker 6: of same even keel every single day, no matter what's
- 16:13Speaker 6: going on in the outside.
- 16:14Speaker 5: That's not surprising. I mean, he's been here for how
- 16:16Speaker 5: many years, eighteen or nineteen years, never had a losing season.
- 16:19Speaker 5: There's got to be something to it, you know. I
- 16:22Speaker 5: think every team is looking for that special sauce of
- 16:24Speaker 5: a coach who could lead and be consistent and and
- 16:28Speaker 5: you know, be involved, understand how to delegate, lead when
- 16:32Speaker 5: it needs to be done, and they don't have to
- 16:35Speaker 5: fill every space with words. I guess one of his
- 16:37Speaker 5: greatest gifts as a head coach is it. In my
- 16:41Speaker 5: time here a short time obviously, but I don't feel
- 16:45Speaker 5: like he's ever tried to fill a space with unnecessary words.
- 16:47Speaker 5: And that might think seem like a small thing, but
- 16:51Speaker 5: it's actually, you know, a very meaningful thing that there's
- 16:53Speaker 5: just sometimes the more words that are said, the more
- 16:57Speaker 5: opportunities for panic or free that can happen. And he's
- 17:02Speaker 5: very concise and to the point with the objectives each week,
- 17:05Speaker 5: with the opponent that we're playing, and with the expectations
- 17:08Speaker 5: for us as a football team. So I think everybody.
- 17:11Speaker 5: You know, I have a unique perspective and guys who
- 17:13Speaker 5: played elseo have anque perspective coming in here. But the
- 17:17Speaker 5: guys that are here should understand how special it is
- 17:20Speaker 5: to have a guy like that lean the team.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Good to hear from the guys. Monday night football, Tuesday
- 17:24Speaker 1: morning football, DOVG. I'm presuming you're like me, you're gonna
- 17:28Speaker 1: be to better seven o'clock get up, but a quarter
- 17:30Speaker 1: of the one and watching this game one fifteen am.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I believe Sky Sports NFL, NFL on the zone or
- 17:36Speaker 1: if you're for some reason on a Tuesday morning in
- 17:39Speaker 1: your car, OTV Sports up and I mean, if you
- 17:43Speaker 1: are fair plenty is but it's on a lot of
- 17:45Speaker 1: options to watch this on TV, which is great, Dovog.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Since we last, I guess seeing each other in the flesh,
- 17:50Speaker 1: one thing has changed in the fact that I got
- 17:53Speaker 1: to see the Dolphins play and Spein wasn't a classic
- 17:57Speaker 1: game by any stretch of the imagination. But the thing
- 17:59Speaker 1: that pressed me with the Dolphins is they're not a
- 18:02Speaker 1: classic Dolphins team that we've seen wed on three the years,
- 18:05Speaker 1: but they find ways to win, and certainly from that
- 18:08Speaker 1: game in Madrid, they beat the Commanders, they go on
- 18:10Speaker 1: a bye week, they beat the Saints, and they beat
- 18:12Speaker 1: the Jets. And yes, these are low lead teams, I
- 18:14Speaker 1: understand that, but they still are going out and doing
- 18:17Speaker 1: what they need to do. Like last week against the Jets.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Two had an okay game, but they've done very, very
- 18:23Speaker 1: well in the run game. They had three different rushing
- 18:25Speaker 1: touchdowns from three different guys. One thing they weren't very
- 18:29Speaker 1: good at though, was their receiving core with their wide receivers.
- 18:34Speaker 1: It wasn't like there wasn't like any you know, massively
- 18:36Speaker 1: standout stats there. Defense had a good day against the Jets.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Team you would expect and this game is act for sure,
- 18:43Speaker 1: you would expect. Seriously, Dabbog in the penultimate home game
- 18:47Speaker 1: of the regular season for the Steelers. This this is
- 18:50Speaker 1: a game one that we have to win to you know,
- 18:53Speaker 1: a game where the Steelers team needs to take control.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Color Rush jerseys are back, first off, are easier favorite
- 18:58Speaker 1: Steels jerseys and if not, which.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Are Yeah, we better doubt. It's hard to beat the
- 19:04Speaker 2: the the blacked doubt Steelers home cats have to say,
- 19:07Speaker 2: Michael have been waiting for it all year and we're
- 19:10Speaker 2: going to get it this week, and it is a
- 19:11Speaker 2: really interesting matchup. You know, we come in with a
- 19:14Speaker 2: bit of momentum now with that massive win, and but
- 19:17Speaker 2: interesting in Miami is you know, quietly dangerous right now.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I think the once four straight meaning heavily all that
- 19:23Speaker 2: rung game, I'm not really bit of capitalist for the
- 19:25Speaker 2: turn around. I mean devon eh Chan and.
- 19:27Speaker 1: They're like they're they're a whispering and I know they're
- 19:30Speaker 1: not like they're not on the cost here, but they
- 19:33Speaker 1: are in with a bit of a whisper of the playoffs,
- 19:35Speaker 1: and certainly Miami will be feeling that big time because
- 19:38Speaker 1: because of what's happened since the tread Like, you know,
- 19:40Speaker 1: this is the weekend where we're going to start to
- 19:42Speaker 1: see a lot of movement with those in the hunt.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Team's mathematically going out, but they're definitely in with a
- 19:47Speaker 1: whisper big.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Time, definitely. I Mean, this is a team that looked
- 19:51Speaker 2: dead and varied a couple of weeks ago, Mick, and
- 19:53Speaker 2: haven't you know, they've really managed to rally really well
- 19:56Speaker 2: and it's given them an outside chance of reaching the playoffs.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Playoffs you know for the Steelers as well, though, you know,
- 20:00Speaker 2: the key is going to be a carying of fagrhythm
- 20:04Speaker 2: we saw in Baltimore. You know, if Rogers and that
- 20:06Speaker 2: calf can stance thinking, you know, the offensive line gives
- 20:09Speaker 2: Rogers time, we should be able to move the ball efficiently.
- 20:12Speaker 2: And you know you mentioned about the defense, the Miami
- 20:14Speaker 2: defense and very aggressive, you know, very poignant. But at
- 20:19Speaker 2: the same time that aggressive can can lead the sort
- 20:22Speaker 2: of openings in secondary So that's really what we're We're
- 20:25Speaker 2: going to be about trying to move the ball up
- 20:26Speaker 2: and down effectively. And then you know, keeping devon chien,
- 20:30Speaker 2: you know, keeping a chain around at chain if you
- 20:32Speaker 2: like a little bit of player words on there, you know,
- 20:34Speaker 2: that's that's really the key to the game.
- 20:36Speaker 1: If you like, what do you want to see from us?
- 20:38Speaker 1: Because I want to see a bit of a continued
- 20:40Speaker 1: progression from that recovery from injury for Aaron Rodgers. I
- 20:43Speaker 1: want to see DK get a couple of home touchsdowns
- 20:45Speaker 1: on Monday night. You just know that this crowd are
- 20:48Speaker 1: going to be fired up for it. And one thing,
- 20:50Speaker 1: you know, it hasn't been easy this year. There's been
- 20:52Speaker 1: games like that, that Packers game at home, the game
- 20:56Speaker 1: against the Bills at home, there have been moments where
- 20:58Speaker 1: they cry to think it just had a bit of
- 20:59Speaker 1: a time this season. Let's get the crowd on board
- 21:02Speaker 1: to get the cry by and I'm sure that we do.
- 21:04Speaker 1: The fans will be behind all all the Steelers players,
- 21:06Speaker 1: but let's find a way to give them that opportunity
- 21:08Speaker 1: early in the game, get control of the game. And yeah,
- 21:11Speaker 1: either this game is on overnight for us, let's find
- 21:14Speaker 1: a wed to almost get tired and have to go
- 21:16Speaker 1: to bettert not furtherly for quarter because the Steelers are
- 21:19Speaker 1: up by that much. That's what you want. I want
- 21:21Speaker 1: to see a bit more of. I want to say
- 21:23Speaker 1: a bit more progression of that run game as well.
- 21:25Speaker 1: But if you're gonna start making a bit of a
- 21:26Speaker 1: statement on the defense even more so, nice the time
- 21:30Speaker 1: to do it.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Yeah, no, absolutely, you know, I think it's finally time
- 21:35Speaker 2: that this run defense, you know, really shines through. You know,
- 21:37Speaker 2: if we're going to be able to neutralize the chain,
- 21:39Speaker 2: it's going to force two to throw in third long situations,
- 21:42Speaker 2: we can make it really ugly for them. So I
- 21:44Speaker 2: think defensively, you know, if we can button them up
- 21:47Speaker 2: and who is not the greatest, I mean, if he
- 21:50Speaker 2: does have a strength. It's probably his pocket presence. But
- 21:53Speaker 2: he's not a He's not a great long thrower to
- 21:56Speaker 2: the ball. And so I feel like if we can
- 21:58Speaker 2: button the chain up, you know, neutralize run game, I
- 22:01Speaker 2: feel like it's it's only a matter of time before
- 22:03Speaker 2: we get it, get to him. And I mean with
- 22:05Speaker 2: you mentioned about Rogers and in the offense, it doesn't
- 22:07Speaker 2: need to be a monster game. You know, all he
- 22:09Speaker 2: needs is a smart one, which is basically the brand
- 22:11Speaker 2: of football he's been playing all year. The Dolphins defense
- 22:14Speaker 2: has imagined they're aggressive, but they're vulnerable and you know
- 22:17Speaker 2: on extended players, and you know, Rogers' ability to move
- 22:19Speaker 2: within the pocket, you know, keeps players you know live
- 22:22Speaker 2: and well just need to say as well, Nick, you
- 22:24Speaker 2: mentioned about the fans and stuff as well. I think
- 22:26Speaker 2: that the Steelers, you know, of course they are a
- 22:28Speaker 2: batter team. We are own three on prime time this year.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Please get over got win a prime time game? Finally
- 22:34Speaker 2: make it one th three. That would be grit.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I believe, and I may have this wrong, but I
- 22:40Speaker 1: believe from seeing Adam Schefter earlier on in the week
- 22:44Speaker 1: on Twitter as I type it in right now on
- 22:46Speaker 1: X he put up the current scenarios in terms of
- 22:50Speaker 1: what might happen if it continues to play it. I
- 22:51Speaker 1: guess obviously a long way to go with the season.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Currently as the stands, Steelers are the four seed in
- 22:57Speaker 1: the AFC with hosted Chargers in the wild card round. Look,
- 23:03Speaker 1: give me a home playoff game. That's all I ask
- 23:06Speaker 1: for right now. And I think for us it'll be
- 23:08Speaker 1: exciting in January to have that opportunity to at least,
- 23:11Speaker 1: you know, talk over a few games haven't been a
- 23:12Speaker 1: crack as well, but just a bit of aggression. I
- 23:15Speaker 1: think the fans, going back to what you said, the
- 23:17Speaker 1: fans need to get a win a Monday, like, get
- 23:18Speaker 1: that prime time win and we go from there. And
- 23:20Speaker 1: it's hard to believe after this game, we've only got
- 23:22Speaker 1: three more regular season games left in the season before
- 23:25Speaker 1: it closes the game for another year. And hopefully we've
- 23:28Speaker 1: got a deep run in January and hopefully we're meeting
- 23:30Speaker 1: each other, right maybe watching the championship game somewhere, Please
- 23:33Speaker 1: God touchwood at the end of the month. But look,
- 23:36Speaker 1: for me, I think this is comfortable for the stats.
- 23:39Speaker 1: I'm going to say twenty seven to ten of the
- 23:40Speaker 1: Steers Monday night. I think this is the business end
- 23:43Speaker 1: of the season. This is football. Whether you know, we
- 23:45Speaker 1: are very lucky to have a lot of progression in
- 23:47Speaker 1: this team, whereas we're not seeing Philip Rivers, God rest
- 23:50Speaker 1: them or God bless them, almost come back in to
- 23:53Speaker 1: this Colts team. It's just been a mad season. But
- 23:56Speaker 1: in the year where we're seeing the Broncos and the
- 23:58Speaker 1: Patriots challenging the AFC, let's turn the clock back a
- 24:01Speaker 1: couple of years more and look at the Steelers challenge
- 24:03Speaker 1: even more so in this AFC. Give me a twenty
- 24:06Speaker 1: seven to ten victory. Do you agree? Have you got
- 24:09Speaker 1: a different mindset in terms of the score?
- 24:12Speaker 2: Not gonna surprise you might a do agree. I'm gonna
- 24:14Speaker 2: go a bit more conservative. I think twenty four to
- 24:17Speaker 2: nineteen Steelers.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Are you trying to give me a hard attack on
- 24:20Speaker 1: a Monday night? Are you twenty four to nineteen against
- 24:23Speaker 1: tu fare bleddy? I like it.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I'm just I'm just learning from experience. You know, we're
- 24:28Speaker 2: the Steelers. You know, we never make it easy on ourselves.
- 24:30Speaker 2: But the same time, that seems when we when we're best,
- 24:33Speaker 2: I mean, when these close games almost feel better when
- 24:36Speaker 2: we when we win a close game. So you know
- 24:38Speaker 2: two is not a He's not he's a warm water quarterback.
- 24:40Speaker 2: It's well, you know documented how he doesn't do well
- 24:44Speaker 2: when he's playing in cold weather. And I think that's
- 24:47Speaker 2: gonna obviously, you know, do us the world of good
- 24:50Speaker 2: and you know as well as that, just as you mentioned,
- 24:52Speaker 2: you know, a couple of the teams there, you know,
- 24:53Speaker 2: a Hume playoff game, the Chargers, Buffalo chances to make
- 24:57Speaker 2: revenge on what we've actually already experience. We lost to
- 25:00Speaker 2: the Chargers, we lost the Bills, and we beat the
- 25:02Speaker 2: coach as well. They are another team that filterning around there,
- 25:05Speaker 2: so we've got a lot of chance for you know, redemption.
- 25:08Speaker 2: And I feel like this is a good way to
- 25:10Speaker 2: start this, you know, win of four games, you know
- 25:12Speaker 2: what you imagined as well, two three wins. I reckon
- 25:15Speaker 2: two wins should do it. I mean, a look at
- 25:16Speaker 2: the Ravens schedule, They've got a more difficult schedule. So
- 25:19Speaker 2: I feel like, you know, tutting out win the next
- 25:21Speaker 2: two three or four games. I think we're in with
- 25:23Speaker 2: shout and I'm gonna go twenty four to nineteen. Take
- 25:26Speaker 2: it to the bank.
- 25:27Speaker 1: We'll see what happens after this Monday night game, and
- 25:29Speaker 1: we'll see what our mindset is going into this game
- 25:32Speaker 1: in Detroit in week sixteen. But that I know that
- 25:34Speaker 1: we're gonna have you on again in week seventeen around
- 25:37Speaker 1: that Christmas time. We appreciate you taking the time, not
- 25:39Speaker 1: just this week, but taking the time at a busy
- 25:42Speaker 1: period as well. We will have a podcast that weeks.
- 25:45Speaker 1: If you're about to eat or stuff yourself or get
- 25:48Speaker 1: over eating turkey, you can listen to our Dulcin tones
- 25:51Speaker 1: that week. Appreciate you man for doing that there. Thank
- 25:53Speaker 1: you very very much. The game Monday, that Football Tuesday
- 25:55Speaker 1: Morning Football one fifteen am Tuesday morning, Sky Sports, NFL
- 26:00Speaker 1: game pass on the zone for myself from Da Vogue.

- 26:04Speaker 1: you for listening, folks, Have a great weekend and enjoy Monday.
