2:05
Speaker 3: of stuff to get to this morning. Busy morning. We're
2:08
Speaker 3: gonna talk to the folks of Goodwill about a big
2:10
Speaker 3: event that they have coming up.
2:11
Speaker 4: That's coming up.
2:11
Speaker 3: Momentarily, Kanaw County Commissioned President Lance Wheeler will be stopping
2:15
Speaker 3: by a big clean up.
2:16
Speaker 4: Going on in the area.
2:17
Speaker 3: In Lance, we'll talk about that. And he's no longer
2:20
Speaker 3: band Brad mcilhanny. We'll join this in the second segment
2:23
Speaker 3: as well.
2:24
Speaker 4: Got to get to a couple of.
2:26
Speaker 3: News items before we get into anything else. Within the
2:28
Speaker 3: last hour, a statement was released by Senator Joe Manchin,
2:32
Speaker 3: also another senator another a statement rather from Charleston Mayor
2:36
Speaker 3: Amy Goodlin, A good one that is that it looks
2:40
Speaker 3: like the postal facility has been saved.
2:42
Speaker 4: From a downgrade.
2:43
Speaker 3: This has been talked about for the last six eight
2:44
Speaker 3: months or so about this postal facility in Charleston possibly
2:48
Speaker 3: closing and moving operations to Pennsylvania. Senator Manson was the
2:52
Speaker 3: first out with the statement about forty five minutes or
2:55
Speaker 3: so ago, saying that after speaking with Postmaster General Lewis
2:58
Speaker 3: to Joy Junior that the Postal service will be canceling
3:02
Speaker 3: the proposed downgrade of the Charleston Processing and Distribution Center. Again,
3:06
Speaker 3: that information was released by Senator Mansion within the last
3:10
Speaker 3: hour or so. Mayor Goodwin also out with the statement
3:13
Speaker 3: on that Jeff Hoppy and Company. Will have more on
3:15
Speaker 3: that coming up throughout the morning. So again it looks
3:18
Speaker 3: like as of right now that the postal facility has
3:21
Speaker 3: been saved in the Charleston area, it will not be closing.
3:25
Speaker 4: That is the story.
3:26
Speaker 3: The big story coming up also locally, a story that
3:29
Speaker 3: could have been a tragedy but apparently it's still a
3:34
Speaker 3: tragedy situation, but luckily no lives were lost. There was
3:37
Speaker 3: a fire reported earlier this morning at the Friendly Faces
3:40
Speaker 3: Daycare center on flutter John Road. Important to note that
3:44
Speaker 3: the center was not open yet, so there were no
3:46
Speaker 3: kids on site. However, there were two staff members in
3:49
Speaker 3: the building. Charleston Fire Department tell us as they were
3:52
Speaker 3: not injured, and the fire Department does tell us that
3:54
Speaker 3: the entire area around flutter John Road near Kroger will
3:57
Speaker 3: be closed until further notice. Again, will have more details
4:00
Speaker 3: online and on air throughout the day. So those are
4:04
Speaker 3: your two big morning headlines, and again we'll have more
4:07
Speaker 3: wcchsntwork dot com, WV Metronews dot com on air, on
4:11
Speaker 3: all the socials.
4:12
Speaker 4: Throughout the day.
4:14
Speaker 3: We got a lot to get to this morning. Let's
4:16
Speaker 3: talk a little goodwill stuff right now and make a
4:17
Speaker 3: deal in Jamon Schmid with us right now.
4:19
Speaker 4: Good morning, guys, how are you?
4:20
Speaker 6: Good morning.
4:22
Speaker 7: Morning.
4:25
Speaker 4: It's it's been a morning.
4:26
Speaker 3: Let me just say that, and for you guys too,
4:28
Speaker 3: because I mean you arrived in the building just like
4:30
Speaker 3: a little bit after eight o'clock or so this morning,
4:32
Speaker 3: Major rounds. We gave you the worst first, so you
4:34
Speaker 3: got to go on with Steve Annabal on the Mountain.
4:36
Speaker 3: You survived that and it got a little bit better
4:39
Speaker 3: with Rob Reel on KWS. And I think you spent
4:41
Speaker 3: some time with Jenny on V one hundred as well.
4:43
Speaker 3: So you've kind of made your rounds this morning too.
4:45
Speaker 6: We've been on a world tour this morning.
4:46
Speaker 4: And you get to see what it's like behind the
4:48
Speaker 4: scenes up here.
4:49
Speaker 3: I mean, you know, I Megan, I know yours that
4:51
Speaker 3: Jamanus may be kind of new to you, but people
4:54
Speaker 3: running around like crazy and trying to get things straight out.
4:57
Speaker 4: It's it's always fun in radio Cat and Dogs. Yes,
5:00
Speaker 4: I got yeah, it's indeed.
5:02
Speaker 3: But you guys have got a big fundraiser coming up
5:04
Speaker 3: and night, did Monti Carlo Megan talk about that a
5:06
Speaker 3: little bit or jimani Ei the one wants to start going.
5:07
Speaker 8: Yeah, I'll take it off. So yeah, October eleventh, seven pm,
5:11
Speaker 8: a night in Monte Carlo. It's our second year having
5:13
Speaker 8: it and last year we had at Barry Hills. This
5:15
Speaker 8: year Clay Center, so it's downtown. Everybody can access it.
5:18
Speaker 8: But Raffle Gaming, sound auction stuff, DJ EJ and Bob
5:22
Speaker 8: Thompson are going to be there, so you know it's
5:24
Speaker 8: gonna be a party. Oh yeah, it'll be a good time.
5:26
Speaker 8: It'll be a good time.
5:27
Speaker 3: So, as you said, this is the second the second
5:30
Speaker 3: time that you've done this particular event.
5:31
Speaker 4: How did it go last year? Obviously it was a success.
5:34
Speaker 9: But a beautiful event last year, and I mean our
5:37
Speaker 9: director fund Development, Alex Mahavey, did an amazing job. She
5:39
Speaker 9: was new to her job and we were new to
5:41
Speaker 9: having an event outside of our annual dinner that we
5:44
Speaker 9: have every year, so it was a learning curve for
5:46
Speaker 9: all of us.
5:46
Speaker 10: But it was.
5:47
Speaker 6: It went off beautifully. It was an amazing event.
5:49
Speaker 9: We have a lot of excitement this year of people
5:52
Speaker 9: that attended last year, so we're very excited.
5:55
Speaker 3: And the reason we have you on today, we'll probably
5:58
Speaker 3: have you on is we get a little bit closer
5:59
Speaker 3: to the event, But the reason that we have you
6:01
Speaker 3: folks on to day is because you got a special
6:02
Speaker 3: going on early bird tickets?
6:04
Speaker 2: Is that right?
6:04
Speaker 6: Early bird tip?
6:05
Speaker 2: It's correct.
6:06
Speaker 8: Actually tomorrow is the last day for it, so good
6:09
Speaker 8: thing you said that too. We actually had it actually
6:12
Speaker 8: ending last week, but just for y'all, just for the people, right,
6:16
Speaker 8: So one hundred five dollars gets you in and also
6:18
Speaker 8: bourbon and cigars as well as everything we just talked about,
6:20
Speaker 8: raffle games, dancing.
6:22
Speaker 3: But that early bird ends tomorrow, that is correct, okay?
6:24
Speaker 3: And how do they get those early bird tickets?
6:26
Speaker 4: Guys?
6:26
Speaker 9: So they can go to our social media at Goodwill
6:29
Speaker 9: kV or they can go to GOODWILLKV dot com slash
6:31
Speaker 9: a night in Monty Carlow and get the link to
6:33
Speaker 9: purchase tickets.
6:34
Speaker 3: All right, you need to do that, but you need
6:35
Speaker 3: to do it by what I guess close the business
6:36
Speaker 3: tomorrow pretty much.
6:37
Speaker 6: Right, we yeah, we might give you to midnight till.
6:39
Speaker 4: Till midnight tomorrow. Okay, all right. The internet doesn't know
6:42
Speaker 4: when closed the business is right, so you can get
6:44
Speaker 4: it in.
6:44
Speaker 6: When does business close?
6:46
Speaker 4: It does not.
6:47
Speaker 3: The Dave Island Show in five eighty live brought to
6:48
Speaker 3: you apart by Husband's Pizza. This month that your Favoritehustans
6:51
Speaker 3: get a large at Nitch Pepperoni pizza and an eight
6:53
Speaker 3: inch chocolate chip cookie only twenty three ninety nine. Let's
6:57
Speaker 3: talk about the work of Goodwill. I mean, it's a
7:00
Speaker 3: fantastic organization. You folks are always out doing great things.
7:03
Speaker 3: Give me an idea some of the money that's going
7:05
Speaker 3: to be raised from this where might where maybe we
7:09
Speaker 3: see some of these funds going.
7:10
Speaker 6: So a lot of people know us for our stores.
7:12
Speaker 6: They know us.
7:13
Speaker 9: They love to find a good deal, they love to thrift.
7:16
Speaker 9: But what a lot of people don't know as eighty
7:18
Speaker 9: nine cents of every dollar that's spent in our stores
7:20
Speaker 9: is going directly back into programming in your community. We
7:23
Speaker 9: serve twenty counties in West Virginia. We have the largest
7:25
Speaker 9: footprint in West Virginia. Have any Goodwill that has territory here,
7:30
Speaker 9: So we're helping people through work. We're putting them into
7:33
Speaker 9: positions in your community. We're helping them in positions in
7:36
Speaker 9: our company and helping them achieve financial stability. When I
7:39
Speaker 9: talk about programming, it's programs like wheels to work.
7:42
Speaker 6: This helps individuals.
7:43
Speaker 9: That either have barriers to employment, need public transportation if
7:47
Speaker 9: it's available. But we all know this as West Virginia
7:49
Speaker 9: and outside of that metro canall put them area there
7:52
Speaker 9: isn't a lot of access to public transportation. So helping
7:55
Speaker 9: individuals actually purchase cars certain stipulations, certain qualifications, they have
8:00
Speaker 9: to go through a programming that teaches them financial literacy
8:03
Speaker 9: and things of that nature. But this helps them actually
8:06
Speaker 9: purchase a vehicle with a low monthly payment that they
8:08
Speaker 9: can afford in their budget. Another program would be our
8:11
Speaker 9: mission mobile. We're actually going out to them in the community,
8:14
Speaker 9: taking our Prosperity Center on wheels, going out to a
8:18
Speaker 9: local parking lot, a local church parking lot, something of
8:20
Speaker 9: that nature, and helping our rural areas sign up for programming,
8:24
Speaker 9: help them with the resume, sign up for services through
8:26
Speaker 9: the state we are. It's literally a full prosperity center
8:30
Speaker 9: on wheels and.
8:30
Speaker 4: Let's talk about the areas that you serve.
8:32
Speaker 3: I mean, we're here in the Charleston area, but you're
8:36
Speaker 3: the Goodwill organization of what you folks do really knows
8:38
Speaker 3: no borders.
8:39
Speaker 4: Let's talk about the area.
8:39
Speaker 8: So you take twenty County. I mean, we have good
8:41
Speaker 8: Wills all of it, of course you know that. But
8:44
Speaker 8: for us twenty County footprint, Boon, Summers, Mercer. I mean,
8:48
Speaker 8: list goes on, but of course outlining that we have
8:51
Speaker 8: other good Wills that aren't us, that have services as well,
8:54
Speaker 8: so where everywhere.
8:55
Speaker 3: And you talked about the stores, and again that's what
8:57
Speaker 3: most people think of when they think of Goodwill and
8:59
Speaker 3: the stores. You've opened up a few new ones over
9:02
Speaker 3: the last couple of years. I know where I live
9:04
Speaker 3: in Tay's Valley. That store, the store is amazing over there.
9:06
Speaker 6: Everyone loves the Tays Valley.
9:08
Speaker 9: That was actually the first store that we rebranded for
9:11
Speaker 9: the new Goodwill experience. And since then, I think we're
9:14
Speaker 9: on almost two number eight. I think you're at that
9:19
Speaker 9: are that format that have you know, the beautiful stores
9:21
Speaker 9: and things like that. I mean the plan is to
9:23
Speaker 9: have all of our stores. If you are listening and
9:25
Speaker 9: are an avid good Wolf shopper. The plan is to
9:27
Speaker 9: have all of those stores in our footprint updated to
9:29
Speaker 9: that over the next several.
9:31
Speaker 4: Years, and it takes time. It takes time to get there.
9:32
Speaker 3: Again, we're talking with Mega Deal and Jamon Schmidt from Goodwill,
9:36
Speaker 3: primarily about their big event, This is the night in
9:38
Speaker 3: Monte Carlo. And you mentioned about the music, I mean
9:41
Speaker 3: DJ EJ He's out everywhere, man, he's everywhere. And Bob Thompson,
9:44
Speaker 3: I mean, Bob is an icon in Charleston, and anytime
9:48
Speaker 3: you get a chance to go see Bob Thompson, it's
9:50
Speaker 3: a good night.
9:51
Speaker 4: It's a good night.
9:51
Speaker 9: And having more of like a private concert with Bob
9:54
Speaker 9: Thompson that will just be solely for the VIP area,
9:57
Speaker 9: so they will literally be able to just spend the
9:59
Speaker 9: night with Bob tom listening to him.
10:01
Speaker 3: Now, let's talk about corporate sponsorship. I mean, you can't
10:04
Speaker 3: pull off an event like this if you don't have
10:05
Speaker 3: a lot of corporate partners. Talk about those and do
10:08
Speaker 3: we need more of the answers? Yes, I know, but
10:10
Speaker 3: we always need more. But let's talk about the corporate sponsorship.
10:13
Speaker 9: Yah, we are very blessed that we have several vendors
10:16
Speaker 9: and organizations that are getting behind us, and we will
10:19
Speaker 9: be able to thank them at the event, thank them
10:22
Speaker 9: on social media prior. But yes, corporate sponsorships in any
10:25
Speaker 9: event are always needed and so they can get all
10:28
Speaker 9: that information on our social media again at GOODWILLKB dot
10:31
Speaker 9: com forwards last night in Monte Carlo.
10:33
Speaker 3: All right, now, give us the dates again and we'll
10:35
Speaker 3: hit those the link for the early bird tickets. But
10:37
Speaker 3: the date of the actual event.
10:38
Speaker 8: Is October eleventh, seven pm and.
10:40
Speaker 3: It's going to be at the Clay Center this year,
10:42
Speaker 3: right conveniently located in downtown Charleston.
10:45
Speaker 4: Hopefully we see you there too.
10:46
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, absolutely wouldn't miss it, man. I mean you
10:48
Speaker 3: got Bob Thompson, I'm.
10:49
Speaker 4: There and you got food, you know.
10:51
Speaker 3: Absolutely so definitely all right, and we'll have you on
10:54
Speaker 3: again as we get closer to the event, but we
10:56
Speaker 3: wanted to have you on this morning to talk about
10:58
Speaker 3: the early bird tickets and again give us a link
11:00
Speaker 3: for that, guys.
11:00
Speaker 8: Goodwi olkv dot com or just go to Facebook if
11:03
Speaker 8: I just on socials and then it'll'll take you there.
11:05
Speaker 3: Anyways, all right, Megan and Jaman, I appreciate you folks
11:07
Speaker 3: being here.
11:08
Speaker 4: Thanks a lot.
11:09
Speaker 3: I think your radio days done now, but you've probably
11:11
Speaker 3: got more media hits you're doing. No, actually, you're coming
11:13
Speaker 3: back with Woody I understand this afternoon. So yeah, all right,
11:17
Speaker 3: So I can't say you saved the best for last
11:19
Speaker 3: because you know what is going in the Hall of Fame.
11:21
Speaker 3: You know that, but West Virginia Broadcasting Hall of Fame
11:24
Speaker 3: in October. Actually that's when the ceremony will be.
11:27
Speaker 9: I think I may have been listening to Woody Woods
11:30
Speaker 9: longer than he and I both want to admit.
11:34
Speaker 4: Well, that's good stuff. That's good.
11:35
Speaker 3: So we'll see on with the Well we'll hear you
11:37
Speaker 3: on with Woody, I guess a little bit later on.
11:38
Speaker 3: And again, get those early bird tickets because that offer
11:42
Speaker 3: ends tomorrow night at midnight. The event coming up October
11:45
Speaker 3: eleventh at the Clay Center in Charleston.
11:47

Speaker 3: light within the last forty five minutes to an hour
14:38
Speaker 3: or so that the postal facility in Charleston will not
14:41
Speaker 3: be closing centertor mansion out with a statement on that.
14:43
Speaker 3: Mayor good One out with the statement as well. Matter
14:46
Speaker 3: of fact, the statement from Mayor good One and I
14:48
Speaker 3: want to paraphrase it here says tremendous news that the
14:51
Speaker 3: United States Postal Service Charleston process and a distribution center
14:55
Speaker 3: will remain open at full capacity and receive millions in
14:58
Speaker 3: federal funding to better serve our community. It's an essential
15:01
Speaker 3: service for everyone in our region and will provide job
15:04
Speaker 3: security to hundreds in our community. Great news is thanks
15:07
Speaker 3: to the tireless efforts. This again is coming from Mayor Goodwin,
15:10
Speaker 3: from Senator Mansion, Senator Capitol. We are fortunate in West
15:13
Speaker 3: Virginia to have two United States Senators who will fight
15:15
Speaker 3: for every West Virginia job and to ensure folks in
15:18
Speaker 3: the state have the same services and opportunities as those
15:21
Speaker 3: throughout the country. Also, a big thank you, says the
15:23
Speaker 3: mayor to the American Postal Workers Union Local one thirty three.
15:26
Speaker 3: They never gave up fighting to keep jobs and services
15:28
Speaker 3: locally and we all benefit from their efforts. That is
15:31
Speaker 3: a statement on the postal facility situation from Charleston Mayor
15:35
Speaker 3: Amy Goodwin. That statement just released prior to the time
15:37
Speaker 3: that I went on the show this morning. Bigley Pigli

15:48
Speaker 4: Brad McIlhenny is here, Brad, good morning.
15:51
Speaker 5: Good morning Dave, and welcome back to you. It's been
15:55
Speaker 5: a few days since you've been back. But I was
15:57
Speaker 5: on the last week and I tried to get the
15:59
Speaker 5: ring of it to see if the Dale Cooper Show
16:02
Speaker 5: went over as a as a title. And I don't
16:05
Speaker 5: know that it took lovedale, but you.
16:08
Speaker 3: Know, it's it's five eighty Live with Dave Allen. It's
16:11
Speaker 3: a Dave Allen show on five eighty Live. It's you know,
16:14
Speaker 3: it's whatever, it's whatever you wanted to be and what
16:17
Speaker 3: however you wanted to identify for that particular day.
16:21
Speaker 5: All right, Well on that day it was the Dale
16:25
Speaker 5: Cooper Show.
16:25
Speaker 14: All right.
16:26
Speaker 5: I don't know whether this stuck all right.
16:27
Speaker 3: So, as you mentioned, I was off on vacation last week.
16:30
Speaker 3: So are you back in the folds now for the
16:32
Speaker 3: Governor's briefings?
16:33
Speaker 5: Brand Oh, I just fold. Yes. So it hit a
16:39
Speaker 5: boiling point maybe two weeks ago, and the Governor was
16:44
Speaker 5: asked about, well, so what is your deal about blocking
16:47
Speaker 5: certain reporters me from the briefing? And he had some
16:54
Speaker 5: non flattering rounds to say about me and my coverage.
16:58
Speaker 5: I'm trying to forget that with my psychological counselor. But
17:04
Speaker 5: the Governor Ben did say with his words, Brad is
17:08
Speaker 5: welcome to come back. So that's the part I'm trying
17:11
Speaker 5: to focus on, right, And so for the last couple
17:13
Speaker 5: of weeks I have been back on. The Governor does
17:17
Speaker 5: advise that we need to ask bad, bad, bad, bad
17:21
Speaker 5: bad questions, but he says he doesn't necessarily expect good good, good,
17:26
Speaker 5: good good questions, but maybe something more along the lines
17:30
Speaker 5: of bad good, bad good bad good. So you gotta
17:34
Speaker 5: have a bad lender advisement. But I mean, I don't
17:37
Speaker 5: know what you and I don't necessarily think through or
17:41
Speaker 5: categorize or do a whiteboard on whether my questions are
17:44
Speaker 5: bad or good, but I'll I'll keep it in mind.
17:48
Speaker 3: Well, for for goodness sake, Brad, don't say, because I
17:50
Speaker 3: know the folks at the Governor's office listen to this
17:52
Speaker 3: show every day. Don't do anything to screw it up now.
17:56
Speaker 3: I mean, you know, don't come on here talk to
17:57
Speaker 3: smack man. You know, don't take a victory lap.
18:00
Speaker 4: All right, be greatful.
18:02
Speaker 5: I will I will try not to. But you know,
18:04
Speaker 5: if if history is any indicator, there will be some
18:08
Speaker 5: reasons sometime in the future who knows about what, but
18:13
Speaker 5: reasons to ask about things that are bad, bad, bad,
18:16
Speaker 5: bad pass. And so I gotta I gotta lean on
18:19
Speaker 5: my social capital while I can. You know, I will say, though,
18:22
Speaker 5: my thought about that is, if it's good, good, good
18:25
Speaker 5: and good good, the administration volunteers it. You don't have
18:29
Speaker 5: to ask. Yeah, they're just gonna tell you. That's they
18:35
Speaker 5: kind of lead to the things that they would consider,
18:37
Speaker 5: you know, bad, bad, bad bad. You know why this
18:40
Speaker 5: is defend that what is going on with this thing
18:44
Speaker 5: that's not going so well? That's that's when you got
18:47
Speaker 5: one question a week. That's let's really wind up.
18:49
Speaker 4: You got to make it a good one.
18:52
Speaker 3: Six A Dave Island showing five any live broad to
18:54

19:05
Speaker 3: and more, visit dirty Birds baseball dot com. All right,
19:07
Speaker 3: let's get down to business now, special session coming, yes, No.
19:11
Speaker 4: Maybe.
19:14
Speaker 5: Maybe. I mean the governor has been talking about it
19:17
Speaker 5: and pushing for it since July first. I actually thought
19:22
Speaker 5: it had been even longer than that, because it seems
19:24
Speaker 5: like it's been sort of circulating conversation for so long now.
19:28
Speaker 5: But it was July first he first brought it up.
19:31
Speaker 5: He caught a bunch of legislators by surprise that day
19:34
Speaker 5: by even saying, you know, I mean the the state
19:37
Speaker 5: government had a big tax cut that went into effect
19:40
Speaker 5: this year twenty one and a quarter percent, and then
19:45
Speaker 5: the trigger means that another four percent is now going
19:50
Speaker 5: to be cut. That's just automatic, based on a formula
19:53
Speaker 5: of the legislature and the government put in place. So
19:55
Speaker 5: that is a pretty healthy tax cut already. The governor
20:00
Speaker 5: believes that the state has the latitude to do another
20:04
Speaker 5: five percent, So yesterday he said, get a whiteboard after this.
20:09
Speaker 5: Yesterday he said that this coming Monday he will announce
20:14
Speaker 5: a special session that he believes will be late this month.
20:20
Speaker 5: So there's a lot of build up there, but he
20:24
Speaker 5: still wants to do it. Has gotten frustrated and the
20:27
Speaker 5: legislators have not come on board so far, and you know,
20:31
Speaker 5: we'll see I mean, the ideal conditions for a special
20:36
Speaker 5: session are you go in and it's pretty clear what
20:40
Speaker 5: you're going to do. You don't take a lot of
20:41
Speaker 5: time about it. There's not a lot of debate, not
20:44
Speaker 5: a lot of complication. But in this case, you know,
20:47
Speaker 5: you've had guests on, you've had the Senate Bias Chairman on.
20:51
Speaker 5: It is not clear that the leading lawmakers, even if
20:55
Speaker 5: they love tax cuts, even if they want to lower
20:58
Speaker 5: the amount of the government spending, even among those folks,
21:02
Speaker 5: it's not clear that they believe that the state can
21:05
Speaker 5: afford this additional five percent. At this point, Senator Tartt
21:10
Speaker 5: will tell you, and he's going to tell Hoppy I
21:13
Speaker 5: think here the next hour. He will tell you that
21:18
Speaker 5: the state already has significant tax cuts, not only the
21:22
Speaker 5: income tax cuts that are going into effect, but the
21:25
Speaker 5: phase out of the income tax of security, the ability
21:31
Speaker 5: to claim what you've paid on your personal property, taxes
21:35
Speaker 5: on your income tax, reductions on your income tax when
21:40
Speaker 5: you file UH, and then other additional expenses the government
21:45
Speaker 5: has already taken on the phase in of Third Grade
21:49
Speaker 5: Success Act, increased costs of people using the promise, the
21:54
Speaker 5: Hope Scholarship for Educational opportunities outside the traditional on the
22:00
Speaker 5: school system. But those are all things that cost money,
22:02
Speaker 5: and they are the mill is going to come due
22:05
Speaker 5: here in the next few years on many of those things,
22:08
Speaker 5: and so does it truly add up? I think that
22:11
Speaker 5: kind of uncertainty it's just difficult to wrap a special
22:15
Speaker 5: session around it. But the governor says he's definitely going
22:17
Speaker 5: to do it. I'm gonna announce it one day, have
22:20
Speaker 5: it maybe later this month.
22:22
Speaker 3: I was listening to the governor's comments Brad yesterday, and
22:26
Speaker 3: of course we had the Toby and Edith references. It's
22:28
Speaker 3: always a good day when you get the Toby and
22:30
Speaker 3: Edith reference. But he talked about that a little bit,
22:33
Speaker 3: and he seems to believe, Brad, right or wrong, that
22:36
Speaker 3: the future of the state of West Virginia depends on
22:39
Speaker 3: whether we eliminate the state income tax or not. Now,
22:42
Speaker 3: others in the in the realm under the dome, like say,
22:46
Speaker 3: as you mentioned, the aforementioned senator, Senate financier Eric Guitar,
22:50
Speaker 3: others and you know, are kind of pumping the brakes on.
22:52
Speaker 4: This a little bit.
22:52
Speaker 3: But the governor thinks, Brad, that is the be all
22:55
Speaker 3: end all to get people to come to West Virginia.
22:59
Speaker 5: You know, yeah, I I mean I will, I will
23:02
Speaker 5: accept that as a policy position, but you know, the
23:06
Speaker 5: five percent doesn't get you all the way to eliminating it.
23:10
Speaker 5: It's it's five percent more down the road. And I
23:15
Speaker 5: guess also, you know, he's he's coming to the end
23:18
Speaker 5: of his term. He will have had eight years, and
23:22
Speaker 5: I think there's an argument to be made to give
23:24
Speaker 5: the next governor a little bit of grace on state
23:27
Speaker 5: finances and not put the next guy in the kind
23:30
Speaker 5: of position that Justice was in when he walked in
23:33
Speaker 5: the door with financially the patient head on the table.
23:37
Speaker 5: You know, give give Governor Morrissey or Governor Williams a
23:40
Speaker 5: little bit of latitude and and if they want to,
23:43
Speaker 5: they can pursue something like this.
23:46
Speaker 11: You know, I.
23:46
Speaker 5: Understand I'm saying that what I'm saying borders opinion. I
23:51
Speaker 5: understand that it is not up to me, and this
23:54
Speaker 5: is going to be a decision made by elected leaders.
23:57
Speaker 5: But boy, I don't know. I just think the mess
24:02
Speaker 5: elite in your term, when you're you're term limited and
24:06
Speaker 5: you're headed for the door, I probably would leave it
24:09
Speaker 5: to the next guy.
24:10
Speaker 3: Talking to Brad Backlhenny again. I want to get into
24:12
Speaker 3: the baby dog mural controversy.
24:14
Speaker 4: Uh.
24:15
Speaker 3: There was a I know a statement came out from
24:16
Speaker 3: Randall Reid Smith about it yesterday, but there was a
24:19
Speaker 3: comment made on one of our social media pages. I
24:22
Speaker 3: believe it was the Metro News actual Metro News Facebook
24:24
Speaker 3: page that said that Metro News seems to be obsessed
24:28
Speaker 3: with this story?
24:29
Speaker 4: Are we obsessed with it?
24:30
Speaker 2: Brad?
24:32
Speaker 5: I think it's an interesting story. Boy, I need a break.
24:36
Speaker 5: People people thought I was obsessed with the governor's finances.
24:39
Speaker 5: I don't know how many things you can be obsessed
24:40
Speaker 5: with it once.
24:41
Speaker 3: But that's that's why you had the mental health care professional, right, Brad?
24:46
Speaker 5: For real? For real? I mean at this point, things
24:49
Speaker 5: keep happening front of the program. Hervey Payton filed a
24:52
Speaker 5: lawsuit over Miss Merrill.
24:54
Speaker 11: Uh.
24:54
Speaker 5: Now the story is the Secretary for Arts, History and
24:59
Speaker 5: cul Sure. Randall Reid Smith has put out a written response.
25:05
Speaker 5: I just thought it was fair mostly a matter of
25:08
Speaker 5: fairness and of interest to reflect what Randall Reid Smith
25:13
Speaker 5: has said. So that was the latest one. But I
25:15
Speaker 5: think it touches a lot of interesting things, and it's
25:19
Speaker 5: the most prominent public building in the state. It is
25:24
Speaker 5: the governor's beloved bulldog who he takes with them everywhere,
25:28
Speaker 5: who serves both a cultural and a political purpose as
25:33
Speaker 5: well as a companionship purpose. And you know, there's this
25:37
Speaker 5: overriding question in the lawsuit about the decision making, and
25:42
Speaker 5: if you're someone who's interested in your tax dollars and
25:45
Speaker 5: who decides how they're used, I think it's worth thinking
25:48
Speaker 5: about it that way. It's almost a half million dollars
25:52
Speaker 5: of your tax dollars with a group of people who
25:56
Speaker 5: are very nice but who very conservative you would call
26:00
Speaker 5: unolcted bureaucrats making the final advice about what is on
26:06
Speaker 5: that mural. And one of the things that they said
26:09
Speaker 5: should be on it is an image of the beloved
26:13
Speaker 5: dog belonging to their moms. So I think all of
26:17
Speaker 5: those things, the public place, the prominence of the dog,
26:22
Speaker 5: the decision making about your tax dollars, and who made
26:28
Speaker 5: those decisions and whether they were appropriate, I mean it was.
26:31
Speaker 5: It's a process that has gone on. They we're going
26:36
Speaker 5: to reachpect points to decisions of the Capitol Building Commission
26:39
Speaker 5: in the late mansion early Tomlin administration as being the
26:44
Speaker 5: basis for doing this twenty twenty four mural that that
26:50
Speaker 5: project was at one point. At one point it got
26:52
Speaker 5: a brief go ahead and then it got a cancelation.
26:56
Speaker 5: So was it all appropriate just in twenty twenty to
27:00
Speaker 5: pick it up and get rolling again. I think it's interesting.
27:04
Speaker 5: I understand that not every news story is interesting to
27:09
Speaker 5: every person out there, but I think the corners.
27:13
Speaker 3: And again it's I think it's more about the process
27:16
Speaker 3: than what it is the actual art. All right, before
27:18
Speaker 3: we let you go, West Virginia poll Rex Repasses has
27:22
Speaker 3: been on hoppy a whole lot. He's on again today
27:24
Speaker 3: with more information, but one facet of the West Virginia
27:26
Speaker 3: Metro newspole came out that said a great number of
27:30
Speaker 3: West Virginians Brad don't care about the governor's financial issues
27:35
Speaker 3: or they.
27:36
Speaker 4: Don't know about it.
27:37
Speaker 3: I mean, it was a striking Okay, if you don't care,
27:39
Speaker 3: that's fine, But to have so many people, and I
27:42
Speaker 3: forget what the exact number was, to say that they
27:44
Speaker 3: hadn't heard about.
27:45
Speaker 4: It, that's a little bit. That's a little bit troubling.
27:49
Speaker 3: Maybe we should put down the TikTok machine there and
27:51
Speaker 3: an actual actually follow news. But what do you think
27:56
Speaker 3: about a such a large number of people, Brad saying that,
28:00
Speaker 3: but you don't care.
28:00
Speaker 9: About it, man.
28:02
Speaker 5: This is the other thing that I'm supposedly obsessed about
28:04
Speaker 5: it and more indication that so few people care. This
28:10
Speaker 5: is why I need the mental health professional. But yes,
28:14
Speaker 5: it was. I try to find the numbers. Sixteen percent,
28:19
Speaker 5: so they've heard nothing about the governor's financial problems. A
28:25
Speaker 5: little less than half forty seven percent, so they have
28:28
Speaker 5: heard a little. So I don't know how much a
28:30
Speaker 5: little is. That's that's kind of a word that's in
28:32
Speaker 5: the ear of the boulder. But I've heard a little
28:35
Speaker 5: and then really just thirty eight percent, so they've heard
28:37
Speaker 5: a lot, you know, maybe a different in media consumption.
28:41
Speaker 5: So many people are now now think they're getting their
28:44
Speaker 5: news off of social media or they are mostly tuned
28:48
Speaker 5: in to their favorite cable network, and the newspapers have
28:54
Speaker 5: provided a significant amount of coverage. I think you've probably
28:57
Speaker 5: get less if you are just watching on local television.
29:01
Speaker 5: I think you're you know, probably in fairness FROMY do
29:04
Speaker 5: a good job truth side, but you get a lot
29:07
Speaker 5: of weather and traffic with the local TV news, and
29:10
Speaker 5: so you know, if that's your in source you may
29:12
Speaker 5: not be getting these stories about justices finances, and you know,
29:16
Speaker 5: then finally it is it's a little bit of a
29:19
Speaker 5: hard sell for people who are busy to to try
29:24
Speaker 5: to tell them why it should matter to them, why
29:29
Speaker 5: justices finances affect Toby and needed. So that's a matter
29:34
Speaker 5: of interpretation for the listeners or the readers. You're right
29:38
Speaker 5: on the whole. Most people said either they'd heard only
29:42
Speaker 5: a little or they'd heard nothing. And it certainly has
29:46
Speaker 5: not affected Governor Justice's popularity. His popularity is at an
29:49
Speaker 5: all time high and he appears ready to just sail
29:53
Speaker 5: into the US sent What.
29:55
Speaker 4: Are you working on today, Brad? Before we let you go,
29:57
Speaker 4: what's on the gen? What's on the white board today
29:59
Speaker 4: for Brad?
30:00
Speaker 5: Yeah? Well, so coming up next. The next thing I
30:02
Speaker 5: gotta do is I need to listen very carefully to
30:06
Speaker 5: Hoppies interviews with Senate Financial Sharon Tarr in House Speaker Handshaw,
30:12
Speaker 5: because I'm trying to get the vibe of what to
30:14
Speaker 5: expect during this special session. Again, I think the majority
30:20
Speaker 5: in the state legislature are pro tax cut, are our
30:24
Speaker 5: pro limited government, but there's already tax cuts and I
30:30
Speaker 5: am just not convinced that they're really going to warm
30:32
Speaker 5: to this additional five percent that seems to be based
30:36
Speaker 5: mostly on a gut feed.
30:38
Speaker 3: Brad, I'm glad you're back, man, I'm glad you're back
30:40
Speaker 3: in the fold again. But don't do anything coming on
30:42
Speaker 3: a little silly radio shows like mine to screw that up.
30:45
Speaker 5: Okay, it's gonna be good bad, good, bad, good bad,
30:49
Speaker 5: never bad bad, bad, bad bad.
30:50
Speaker 4: All right, Brad, we'll talk soon, man, Thanks a lot.
30:53
Speaker 5: Thanks Dave.

36:18
Speaker 3: would be remiss if I did not mention the birthday
36:20
Speaker 3: yesterday one of my favorite people in the world, and
36:24
Speaker 3: that is the mayor of Ripley, Carolyn Rader. Her birthday
36:27
Speaker 3: was yesterday. I don't know how old she is. I'm
36:28
Speaker 3: not breaching that. I'm not going to ask, but her
36:31
Speaker 3: birthday was yesterday. And I will say this about Mayor Raider.
36:33
Speaker 3: There is not a mayor in the state of West
36:35
Speaker 3: Virginia that loves her city more than Mayor Raider does.
36:38
Speaker 3: So happy birthday, Mayor. I know she listens up in Ripley.

36:49
Speaker 3: I want to start with a little breaking news and
36:51
Speaker 3: I'm sure you are are aware of it, but I
36:53
Speaker 3: want to get your comment about it. And that is
36:56
Speaker 3: the news broke within the last hour and hour and
36:58
Speaker 3: a half that the postal facility in Charleston we will
37:00
Speaker 3: not be closing. Yeah, I know that Senator Mansion, Mayor Goodwes,
37:04
Speaker 3: Senator Capital all out with statements on that. But as
37:06
Speaker 3: president of the Kanawk County Commission, again breaking news, I
37:09
Speaker 3: want to give you an opportunity to talk about your
37:12
Speaker 3: reaction to them.
37:13
Speaker 15: We did it.
37:14
Speaker 18: I mean, this was a fight that we've been fighting
37:16
Speaker 18: for a long time. We knew this for about six
37:19
Speaker 18: eight months now at this point, we were alerted through
37:23
Speaker 18: actually Shelley Moore Capito's office, that the US Department of
37:27
Speaker 18: Postal Services was thinking about closing the disposition center here
37:31
Speaker 18: in Charleston. Now that was concerning because not only is
37:35
Speaker 18: that jobs good paying jobs for a lot of West
37:37
Speaker 18: Virginians Knell County and Charleston's who you know, need that
37:40
Speaker 18: money to put food on the table for their kids,
37:42
Speaker 18: but it's also a service to everyone here who uses
37:45
Speaker 18: the post office, who receives mail. You know, we have
37:48
Speaker 18: a lot of elderly that you know, they still pay
37:50
Speaker 18: their utilities with checks and that's how they do it,
37:53
Speaker 18: and that's how they're comfortable to wing it without that service.
37:56
Speaker 18: You know, a couple of days late. Now we're talking fees,
37:59
Speaker 18: we're talking charges, you know, credit cards and big businesses
38:03
Speaker 18: outside of the state of Western I don't care if
38:05
Speaker 18: it's a day late, they're going to charge you. And
38:06
Speaker 18: I think that service is really the reason why we
38:09
Speaker 18: fought so hard for this. Thank you for Senator Mansion,
38:12
Speaker 18: Senator Shelley Moore Capito for fighting on the federal side
38:16
Speaker 18: of this. I know Mayor Goodwin has been in conversations
38:19
Speaker 18: the County Commission with Commissioner slot Ni, Commissioner Slango, myself
38:22
Speaker 18: have been sending letters after letters urging for this center
38:26
Speaker 18: to stay open and to get that news that it
38:28
Speaker 18: will stay open. And not only will it stay open,
38:31
Speaker 18: but the federal government is promising millions of dollars in upgrades.
38:35
Speaker 18: So now we're going to be talking hopefully faster service,
38:37
Speaker 18: better service, and we're also talking more jobs all around.
38:41
Speaker 18: This is incredible and a lot of times people see
38:43
Speaker 18: these stories and they think this isn't really that big
38:45
Speaker 18: of a deal, is it.
38:46
Speaker 3: It's a very big win, is what it is. Big,
38:49
Speaker 3: not only the Kanaal Valley, but really all of it.
38:51
Speaker 3: Because didn't I read and you'd probably know this more
38:54
Speaker 3: than I would that a great, a great percentage of
38:58
Speaker 3: the mail that goes through West Virginia and general comes
39:00
Speaker 3: to that distribution center.
39:02
Speaker 18: Not just Canau Valley, No, it's West Virginia and it's
39:04
Speaker 18: even the region itself. You know, we are kind of
39:06
Speaker 18: in a position to where if you're bringing mail through
39:09
Speaker 18: the from the west of the country, so we're talking
39:12
Speaker 18: about Utah and Nevada, things like that, it's got to
39:14
Speaker 18: come to a center, to a stop, and then it's
39:17
Speaker 18: distributed out. We're kind of that hub because of the
39:20
Speaker 18: geographical location we're in. So this was going to not
39:22
Speaker 18: just affect West Virginians. This is going to affect our
39:26
Speaker 18: entire eastern region and the way that they were going
39:29
Speaker 18: to change up the system. So having that here is
39:32
Speaker 18: going to help all West Virginians, whether you live in
39:34
Speaker 18: Kannall County or not. And this is going to be
39:36
Speaker 18: a service that we're going to continue to be able
39:38
Speaker 18: to bring to everyone and making sure that the mail
39:41
Speaker 18: is ran on time.
39:42
Speaker 3: And let's don't discount the role that the public played
39:46
Speaker 3: in this as well, because there were public hearings held
39:48
Speaker 3: and the public really showed out.
39:49
Speaker 4: They said emails, they did letters.
39:50
Speaker 3: So we want to give our elected officials a credit,
39:53
Speaker 3: but let's also don't forget what the general public did.
39:56
Speaker 14: Absolutely.
39:57
Speaker 18: I think the first time that they had the public hearing,
39:59
Speaker 18: it was a standing, tons of people coming in. And
40:02
Speaker 18: again it wasn't elected officials, it wasn't members of the
40:05
Speaker 18: union for the post Office. This was individuals coming out
40:08
Speaker 18: concerned understanding how crucial this would be if they were
40:12
Speaker 18: to remove it and eliminate that here in Charleston. So again,
40:15
Speaker 18: the big win of this is not only are we
40:17
Speaker 18: going to keep the facility and continue that quality of service,
40:20
Speaker 18: We're going to be able to have more jobs from
40:22
Speaker 18: the upgrades and the million of dollars it's going to
40:24
Speaker 18: come in.
40:25
Speaker 4: For Commission President Lance Wheeler.
40:26
Speaker 3: Last time that I had you on the show was
40:29
Speaker 3: I would have been two weeks ago tomorrow, and that
40:31
Speaker 3: was the day that you were talking about the opening
40:34
Speaker 3: of the new Hatfa McCoy trail project and Tornado. How
40:37
Speaker 3: did everything go? I was on vacation last week, So
40:39
Speaker 3: how did it go?
40:40
Speaker 8: Well?
40:40
Speaker 15: How did your vacation Goah?
40:41
Speaker 4: It went fine, that's great.
40:43
Speaker 3: I had good food, good drink, that's a good veg.
40:45
Speaker 3: And spend time with my wife.
40:47
Speaker 18: That's a vacation for well, that's an excuse to miss
40:49
Speaker 18: out what happened. But it has been incredible with what
40:52
Speaker 18: we've seen with the hat FA McCoy opening up here
40:54
Speaker 18: in Kenall County. I mean, you know, I came on
40:56
Speaker 18: here promising that this was going.
40:57
Speaker 15: To be big.
40:58
Speaker 18: It has been big, and I've got the numbers to
41:00
Speaker 18: prove it. Just over Memorial Day weekend, which Dave, was
41:02
Speaker 18: a beautiful weekend here in West Virginia, here in Kearnell County.
41:05
Speaker 18: It was very nice weather, not too hot, not too cold, sunny.
41:09
Speaker 18: We had seventy Labor Day yes, excuse me, like a
41:12
Speaker 18: Labor Day weekend. We had seventy in state tickets sold,
41:17
Speaker 18: trail tickets sold just that weekend. We had twenty five
41:21
Speaker 18: out of state tickets sold just that weekend. And we
41:25
Speaker 18: saw people from Ohio, We saw somebody from Virginia. We
41:28
Speaker 18: saw somebody from New York again, and then we also
41:31
Speaker 18: saw somebody from Utah. We had an influencer from Utah
41:36
Speaker 18: who flew into Charleston, West Virginia. He flew his bike
41:39
Speaker 18: in as well, and he was able to go out
41:41
Speaker 18: in the trails and he videotaped it and he put
41:43
Speaker 18: it up on his social media and he talked about
41:45
Speaker 18: how great it is that these trails.
41:46
Speaker 4: We're attracting influencers now, Commissioned President.
41:49
Speaker 18: That is that's where we're at right now. Is that
41:51
Speaker 18: that's how how much people really are we're begging for
41:54
Speaker 18: a single dedicated track for dirt bikes only. This is
41:57
Speaker 18: how much the entire nation is excited to have something
42:00
Speaker 18: like this. This shows that it's a state of the
42:02
Speaker 18: art trail system. Hat Fam McCoy and their staff have
42:05
Speaker 18: done an excellent job putting this together. Everyone that I've
42:08
Speaker 18: talked to who's went out there and right it said
42:10
Speaker 18: these things these trails are, they're they're good. They're difficult,
42:13
Speaker 18: but even a writer who's new to this can also
42:16
Speaker 18: have a fun experience.
42:17
Speaker 5: Uh.
42:18
Speaker 18: And in their words they said, these trails are gnarly.
42:21
Speaker 18: That was their words, not mine.
42:22
Speaker 4: Gnarly, Ryan, They're gnarly.
42:24
Speaker 18: That's how That's how you know we're getting to the
42:27
Speaker 18: youth and giving a service that they're able to enjoy.
42:30
Speaker 18: I mean, this is just wonderful. And what they're doing
42:32
Speaker 18: is they're looking for hotels, they're looking for restaurants.
42:34
Speaker 4: You know.
42:35
Speaker 18: Boge's we talked about earlier. Boge's is right there next
42:38
Speaker 18: to Big Ben our golf course that's three minutes away.
42:40
Speaker 18: I talked to their owner and I said, how excited
42:43
Speaker 18: are you? He went, can we get the Can we
42:44
Speaker 18: get them to come to the dirt bikes to our facility.
42:48
Speaker 18: I said, no, I don't think that's going to affect them.
42:50
Speaker 18: But they are already looking for restaurants, They're already looking
42:53
Speaker 18: for shops, They're already looking for things to do here
42:56
Speaker 18: in Keannall County. And these are not just people from
42:59
Speaker 18: Nitro Puttnam County.
43:00
Speaker 4: Yeah, these are.
43:01
Speaker 18: People from all across the nation who are coming to
43:04
Speaker 18: Kanall County enjoying their time, spending this weekend on for
43:07
Speaker 18: their vacation here, and then they're spending their hard earned
43:10
Speaker 18: money at our local businesses. I think that's just wonderful.
43:13
Speaker 3: Well, and I've to talk about my personal experience. I
43:16
Speaker 3: was in on some of the early meetings of the
43:17
Speaker 3: hat Fil McCoy Trail when it was being developed in
43:19
Speaker 3: the nineteen nineties, and at the time, a lot of people,
43:22
Speaker 3: including myself.
43:23
Speaker 4: Are like, I don't know whether this thing's going to
43:25
Speaker 4: be that big or not.
43:25
Speaker 3: Well we were wrong. And again these people that come
43:29
Speaker 3: in that ride these trails, whether it's UTV's ATVs, whether
43:33
Speaker 3: it's mountain bikes, whether it's it's the two wheel motorcycles, whatever.
43:38
Speaker 3: These people that come in, this is not an inexpensive sport.
43:41
Speaker 3: They spend lots of money when they're here. They have
43:44
Speaker 3: to be during the during the months, like once we
43:47
Speaker 3: do the time change, whatever, they have to be off
43:49
Speaker 3: the trail by dark, which is like five point fifteen
43:51
Speaker 3: or so. So they're not probably not going to go
43:54
Speaker 3: back and just hang out at their cabin or their room.
43:56
Speaker 3: They're going to go hit up some local bars. They're
43:57
Speaker 3: going to go hit up some local restaurants, They're going
43:59
Speaker 3: to go shopping. That's where the real money commissioner on
44:02
Speaker 3: these things comes in.
44:03
Speaker 18: Yeah, and we're seeing it already just from the soft
44:07
Speaker 18: opening and then over Liberty Weekend. I mean, we're seeing
44:10
Speaker 18: the amount of people coming in and we haven't even
44:13
Speaker 18: been able to really truly advertise this. I've talked to
44:16
Speaker 18: a lot of people who've called my office saying, I'm excited.
44:18
Speaker 18: I just learned that this is open. We're scheduling to
44:21
Speaker 18: come in as soon as we can. So we've got
44:23
Speaker 18: a lot of people, not just from what we saw
44:25
Speaker 18: over the weekend, but we're seeing a lot of people
44:27
Speaker 18: who are already scheduling their vacations, their weekends, their nights
44:31
Speaker 18: to come to Kennall County just for this trail system.
44:33
Speaker 18: And like you said, when they're here, they're not just
44:35
Speaker 18: getting off the bike and going and riding the trails
44:38
Speaker 18: and then going home. They're staying the night. They're enjoying
44:41
Speaker 18: time with their family. I mean, I've seen people from
44:44
Speaker 18: all ages already going out on these trails, anywhere from
44:47
Speaker 18: eight years old all the way up to in their
44:50
Speaker 18: sixties and seventies, just enjoying these trails, having a great
44:53
Speaker 18: time and enjoying the great outdoor experience that us West
44:56
Speaker 18: Virginians know about our West Virginia. Here, that's just an
44:59
Speaker 18: appl incredible thing, and I think that it's going to
45:01
Speaker 18: be great for the economy and great for people to
45:04
Speaker 18: get out and enjoy something that's different.
45:06

Speaker 3: is here. Tex says the postal facility win is a
48:03
Speaker 3: huge win. It secures the financial stability of hundreds, if
48:06
Speaker 3: not thousands, of families. That happened because of the tremendous
48:09
Speaker 3: public pressure. The lesson here is don't let unelected government
48:13
Speaker 3: bureaucrats push you around. You're the boss, not Then when
48:15
Speaker 3: you act like it, things get done.
48:17
Speaker 15: I could agree more.
48:19
Speaker 4: I mean absolutely pretty good text.
48:21
Speaker 3: All right, So let's talk about this cleanup. We got
48:23
Speaker 3: a cleanup going on here in Kanaan count and get
48:25
Speaker 3: into that a little bit.
48:25
Speaker 18: Well, we get calls for two issues. It's the most
48:29
Speaker 18: calls we get all year round. The first one is
48:31
Speaker 18: when is Halloween, which we've already determined Halloween's going to
48:34
Speaker 18: be October thirty first, actually on Halloween, which is how
48:37
Speaker 18: I've always supported it from six to eight. The second
48:40
Speaker 18: one is when are the cleanups? The cleanups are very
48:44
Speaker 18: popular obviously, you know, we get a lot of people
48:45
Speaker 18: who are interested in being able to clean up their yards,
48:48
Speaker 18: clean up their garages and get rid of things because
48:51
Speaker 18: it is difficult with the waste management we have here
48:54
Speaker 18: being able to get rid of some of these large items.
48:56
Speaker 18: So this is a service that the County Commission has
48:58
Speaker 18: provided for years where we have these clean ups and
49:00
Speaker 18: you can bring just about anything. This weekend, we're going
49:03
Speaker 18: to have the first fall clean up. Now, Dave, I've
49:06
Speaker 18: always said this before, when's the best time to start
49:08
Speaker 18: spring cleanup? Started in the fall?
49:10
Speaker 4: In the fall? Again? Ready for it?
49:11
Speaker 18: Yeah, And we're going to have it right here in
49:13
Speaker 18: this weekend. It's going to be at the Elk The
49:15
Speaker 18: in Elkview at the old Hoover High School site, September seventh,
49:19
Speaker 18: this week, this Saturday, we're going to do it from
49:22
Speaker 18: six to eight six am to excuse me, eight am
49:26
Speaker 18: to four pm. We changed the times around, but it's
49:29
Speaker 18: going to be from eight to four and we're going
49:32
Speaker 18: to be asking everyone to come out. Things that you
49:34
Speaker 18: can bring, just about anything. It's actually easier to say
49:37
Speaker 18: what you can't.
49:38
Speaker 4: That was was going to say, commission, what can't you take?
49:40
Speaker 16: Now?
49:41
Speaker 18: Chemicals, hazardous waste, oils, paints, things like that you can't take.
49:47
Speaker 18: But if you want to bring a refrigerator, you want
49:49
Speaker 18: to bring scrap metal, you want to bring trash bags
49:52
Speaker 18: of trash tires. We work with the West Virginia Deep
49:57
Speaker 18: and reprogram to where we can actually recycle these tires.
50:00
Speaker 18: That's always a big one is how do I get
50:01
Speaker 18: rid of these tires? You know, I've got them all,
50:03
Speaker 18: got four sets from my wife because she goes from
50:06
Speaker 18: winter tires to the general tires. And now I've got
50:09
Speaker 18: these tires and I don't know what to do with them.
50:10
Speaker 18: We'll come bring them down this weekend at the old
50:12
Speaker 18: Hoover High School site and we'll get you taken care of.
50:15
Speaker 18: Get it cleaned up. You know. I've seen people come
50:17
Speaker 18: with a trailer and a boat, an old boat just
50:21
Speaker 18: want to said, we don't you know, we don't want
50:22
Speaker 18: it anymore. It's been stuck in the yard. We don't
50:24
Speaker 18: know what to do with it, you know, And we've
50:27
Speaker 18: taken it and we've been able to recycle it. So
50:30
Speaker 18: this is a service that we're able to provide. It's
50:32
Speaker 18: something that people really enjoy. And not only is it
50:34
Speaker 18: something that helps out some of our citizens here in
50:36
Speaker 18: Kennell County and getting cleaned up, but it also prevents
50:39
Speaker 18: trash from being on the side of the road, it
50:41
Speaker 18: prevents tires from being in the rivers, and that's, you know,
50:44
Speaker 18: environmentally something we don't want. So being able to offer
50:46
Speaker 18: these free services over the fall in the spring, I
50:50
Speaker 18: think really helps with our cleanups in making sure that
50:52
Speaker 18: we're keeping Kinal County clean.
50:54
Speaker 3: Now, Commissioner, this was going to be at the old
50:56
Speaker 3: Herbert Hoover High School. It's primarily designed for residents of
50:59
Speaker 3: that area because you've got other.
51:00
Speaker 4: Areas or it's open anybody. Okay, they want to actually
51:04
Speaker 4: take the time to come up there, they.
51:05
Speaker 18: Can, Yeah, anyone who comes. It is free for anybody. So,
51:09
Speaker 18: as I always say, if it's free for me, it's
51:11
Speaker 18: free for you. This event's free for everyone. We won't
51:13
Speaker 18: there's no charge. You just come in, no matter where
51:16
Speaker 18: you live here in Kenannwall County. You pull up, we'll
51:18
Speaker 18: get you designated in the right location, we'll unload your
51:22
Speaker 18: your truck or your trailer, whatever you've brought, and then
51:25
Speaker 18: we'll get it all cleaned up. And you know, there's
51:27
Speaker 18: not a limit to how many times you can come in.
51:29
Speaker 18: Today we've got some people who come three four times
51:32
Speaker 18: throughout the day, just you know, making those rounds getting
51:34
Speaker 18: things cleaned up. I think that that's an excellent way
51:38
Speaker 18: to help clean up the county. And I think this
51:39
Speaker 18: is an excellent service and it's something that's very popular
51:42
Speaker 18: with the people here in Canal.
51:44
Speaker 4: And how many of these do you have? How many areas?
51:46
Speaker 18: So we're going to do three this fall. The first
51:48
Speaker 18: one is this weekend at the old Herbert High School
51:50
Speaker 18: there in Elkview. The second one is going to be
51:53
Speaker 18: September twenty first at the South Charleston at the intersection
51:56
Speaker 18: of C Street and Fourth Avenue, that's the one behind
51:59
Speaker 18: the speedway. And then October fifth, Cavin Creek behind the
52:02
Speaker 18: Go Mark.
52:02
Speaker 4: All right, here's what we'll do.
52:03
Speaker 3: We'll have you on before each of those to remind
52:04
Speaker 3: people how's that. But again, this one is an LF
52:07
Speaker 3: you at the old Herbert Hoover High School eight to
52:09
Speaker 3: four on Saturday. Yep, mister whil I appreciate you being
52:12
